Evan, doing well. How you doing? I'm doing great, enjoying the Christmas slash holiday season, whatever you celebrate. And it's weird because there's no bruins, right? So it's kind of like, you know, on the negative side, there's no bruins, right? No games, no things to talk about on the positive side, though I have extra time to do some shopping. You know, I am not doing it last minute. Not paying attention. You're not always stresses me out when elf when you're watching elf, great movie. But they're heading to central Bach. How about Santa? And James con's wife is like literally like shopping. You know, like 85 frigging bags on Christmas Eve. What are you doing? What are you doing here? It's funny I had to go to target Tuesday night to get snow pants. 'cause I'm learning how to ski soon. So I end up snow pants for it. And there were so many people in the clothing sections and everything just like grabbing stuff. It was like ma'am. And it was very, yeah. It was Dan flashes, you're exactly right. And it was very stressful. I was like, man, that's a bit much for me. I don't know. It stresses me out a bit. I like to get my shopping done somewhat early. I have it all about it. I have to wrap. Now my big thing is like a rapping thing. That's always kind of like to my mom or sister. Hey, can you come help me wrap this? I just don't want you doing it on the cabbage bag. It's fine. I put a little red bow on it, like one of those stick on ones. It works. I thought that works. So anyways, the NHL in general, now we're recording this on Wednesday morning. If we look very tired, it's because we're recording this very early. 9 30 on a Wednesday. It's very early. But at any rate, now the NHL, the holiday break has extended. It is now December 22nd through the 25th the NHL said, well, if games are getting postponed left and right like this, might as well just hand the whole thing. So the real question is, is this going to end after Christmas, right? Are we going to still be in the same predicament after Christmas? And the big question is, should they just suspend all play through new years? To just get every team at square one again with no cases. Connor Ryan, do you think they should be canceled through new year's? I mean, I think they should be just to give you that longer buffer period just to figure out what the next steps are, because one, you're seeing more players even during the shutdown test positive. Like the brooms haven't played since what was it last Thursday and burning Carlo popped a positive test on Tuesday morning? Well, you're still going to get more cases during this time. Even though it seems like the NHL is looking.

He did say that he's found this. We can really difficult so far in his impressed with the fact that he was able to get that to put him p to what is it specifically but the mercedes are struggling with with this car and how was it presenting itself up this sock it. Well i think basically it's the problem that's plaguing them throughout the year. Goes back to gang ties in the right wing. Don't get things. Li perfectly is obviously. It's obviously not as bad as it was the street circuits. I mean particularly lewis in monaco battery in in baku. Ray we really struggled with you. Think they just find it difficult. Every venue is much better here much better clearly but it still there still as hamilton says that they arrive every venue and the cars going on the track and it's just go to work to it whereas i think in the past potentially for hasn't been such a significant factor. What was really interesting was that he said that. Nothing's really working. That's why he's found things so much struggle in terms of the changes that they will make it to the sets up throughout practice and he basically said that they they. They just went for almost implying a hidden. Hope make you change. Go back to almost how the call was out because the star of f. p. one and he seemed to think that really helped him in qualifying there was another another little tweak. He made ahead of ahead of you running key three and not really made the difference when it comes to finishing in front of ask because both has been on the hand we can ultimately the changes. The mercedes made the step the was able to make very nearly impo- position and he's still quite a big margin in terms of vistaprint's final margin. Well how was considerably closer. So yes very impressive stuff from from them. But i think yes still still not happy. I think there's still no happens. And how things are a working when it comes to applying the cause different circumstances again and people get bored of it. Frankly we get bored of writing about it. But he's down to the time getting into behave and in terms of use tire issues. There's issues that are more a present on this twenty twenty one call what issue in the prior year just that right Quite as close to one pushing them so much. We won seeing as much of an issue because the call was just generally a stronger and more dominant car. That's definitely the case that we'd red boo being closer. Any problems eighties houses. It's just awfully exacerbated because suddenly in a fight with another team where it wasn't before but of course the new talk instructions for the last year. I think he's is something that will really is almost forgotten. That would favor the history of the mercedes w eleven which we think is what was going to go down as one of the best one. 'cause in f one history of course. It was helped by the fact that the stayed the same thousand nineteen so the didn't have to do with the learning all over again. You know they could use exactly. What the before and apply again that's starts. That's just going to make things easier for everybody that changed over the winter. You've got heavy. It's is strong stronger. Constructions used to try and avoid the failures that purely encountered the british grand prix. And i think we're stopping another one didn't mean imminent asked year. Things obviously not perfect. Ceos we see me mackey very specific circumstances that pirelli's alluding say with how things were being run. You know how how ties were able to perform Once they left the carriage and report and asked the march so yeah you know and again the the added complication with that is. The topic has gone up so again. Things are just different. Compared to how teams were. We're finding things at boss learners. I said on the dos. Most recent recent normal track people. I'm sure read is what we see in the numbers after after a good few thomas stories. People just don't care about that but is is fundamental thing fundamental thing. that's the team grappling with now as we mentioned off the top ten. We'll be starting on the mediums tomorrow now looking at race pace. You've said the louis. The rebels king good for rice faced bat. The fixed wasting may suggest otherwise. What are you thinking in. Tom's of how more could play out. Do you think read have the race pace to hold on to the lead and converted into a victory or actually the the times that we're seeing lots that we're seeing suggesting that mercedes might just have the edge when it comes to those long runs. Yes speaking to one of the teams yesterday. The indication was that mercedes just had a slight edge. Just just a couple of tents on average a rebel. But that's just in the pure numbers you is almost like lies damn sadistics you can make these things to anything. Because in actual facts. Long-run picture of paul ricard in. Fb to yesterday was really complicated by traffic. So for example loose. I want to start off really strong leonis long run then his time he's times just disappeared gang coop in traffic. He wasn't happy with the balance of his car. And then the anti delivered the the fastest lap of run ten laps. Say he's hanging actually. We're pretty strong. If that's the case as the leo be in the middle. They weren't quite so clear on so he did have a deficit to to match up. But voucher bought ass was able to go faster now. We now know that he was running. Starting to different estimates commits. Everybody else at different points in session yesterday. It's not my explain that so yeah it's it's a very confusing picture. Why would say is the with the way we know things work for card. How difficult is overtake there. And more is pretty. Sure gonna be a one-stop racist start on the mediums as say and then go into the hearts don't see a lot of overtaking happening if things are a super close and you know. I don't think that would have enough of a rights-based advantage over red. Bow to make overtaking easy but what will be really interesting is how both teams how things work out with the rio times. Because that's what cost really badly in spain. A say he's played strategic blinder but it was the limits of the retire. Where we're what were the problem for rebel. Better how much and thinks that report made it step. It sounds appear pace. both will receive that trend's translates race-based tomorrow but also the fact that tire pressures have gone up. That means that blistering might be more problem than we saw that. In the seventieth anniversary last year. I just went up in the eighties bridge. Quandary and which team was better purple so it could go either way but the fact that the from was donna head gave him massive advantage. Tamar now looking out secondary we have that he makes about you. Process on saturday peres. Bauchi was looking strong weekend in fact stronger than lewis in the practice. Sessions couldn't quite combat it today when it really mattered. What did you make of his performance on russo checkers performance..

Mandatory back it will depending on the status of packing house title If if he's a super champion for the wnba there's no issue whatsoever. His his mandatory would get pushed off. Perfect all right all right. So i wanted to acts you don't or you haven't frequently adapted interims or just other ibm belts. I think i've seen maybe two in the last few years. I i believe you gave adam one for fight with somebody in new york and then maybe someone in the between between thirty one thirty five maybe received some sort of interim but it's not a main thing why is that Well our our will is is pretty clear The only way will allow for an interim title is if for any certain reason. The champion kept the same title that that's a tv's injured or sick or whatever Those are the only circumstances in which we will allow interim title so so what was behind the atom one because a joshua was the champ was at the time to mandatory. Where how you know. What was the science behind. Adam receiving an interim well he no. He wasn't the interim he was just the leading available but he received the belt in that fight. "Of the most discerning chefs in the world. And farmer Lee Jones, with his trademark overalls and red bow tie is the best ambassador. Any form could have high. Good afternoon. Thanks for having me on. Oh, we're thrilled that you're here. This story of the farm is so fascinating. Could you tell us a bit about it? How far it goes back? Who started it? Well, our family's been in the farming for probably six generations. Although there's been gaps, my dad actually went to work for a very progressive vegetable grower. And if you go back further than that Brennan and amazing micro climate right along Lake eerie in Huron, Ohio, and Lake areas, the shallowest of all the Great Lakes. Consequently, it's the warmest In fact, we were huge in wine grapes before Napa Valley. And it did not last. But we had at one point over 330 truck farmers that grew vegetables in this community and then served the large metropolitan areas because the micro climate of Lake Erie Divides nice one gentle breezes off the lake, and it also allows us to extend the season later into the fall and keeps us from freezing out early as well. We're on old Lake bottom soil, some of the richest sandy loam in the world. And we we really think that the cool climates allow us to provide really, really special vegetables. The spinach. I wish that you could actually feel and hear and taste and touch the spinach. We plant it in the fall it winter's over. We actually have a trademark on ice spinach, much like the concept of ice wine where they harvest the great frozen and the spinach is actually testing as sweet as a red delicious apple. And you, actually, I mean, when you squeeze it, it just got so much body and crunch and dark green and it just screams of health. Wow. Wow. Someday I have to come and visit. I understand that, Like many farmers, you were affected by the farm crises of the of the eighties. We were my dad actually. Went to work for progressive vegetable grower named Charles Nichols and as if you can imagine 330 vegetable growers in the 19 thirties. It's hard for us to even think about were considered. But roads and refrigeration had not developed to the point where there was a lot of outside competition. So you have Cleveland an hour away. Toledo on our way, Columbus two hours away. Detroit an hour and a half Pittsburgh, 3.5 hours, Cincinnati four hours, So you have these large metropolitan areas without a lot of outside competition from California or Florida or Georgia or the Carolinas. So those farmers did quite well. But as the roads and refrigeration continued to improve outside competition happened because it was growers on larger scale of 10,000 or 20, or 30,000 acre farms. Could do it more efficiently than the truck farmers here that we're farming 100 to 200 Acres was a large farm. And so one by one, those small family farms went out. Mr. Nicholls recognized this competition coming. So he worked cooperatively with about 65. Other growers and dad learned a lot from him. And ultimately ended up 20 some years later buying the farm from Mr Nichols because he had no one in the family that wanted to carry the business on And so my dad was farming about 1200 Acres in the late seventies and early eighties. And you know one by one, the small family farms the 330 in the 19 thirties. Just slowly. We're going away much like if the listeners can think of Going back to their hometown and thinking about the number of family on grocery stores that once existed that were really pushed out by larger chain grocery stores. My dad supply chain grocery stores and If you can imagine today, interest rates have been it really in a historic low there right around 3.5 375 in the late seventies, early eighties, the economy got turned all upside down. In the interest rates actually had 22% And there was a fellow by the name of Earl Butts. The secretary of agriculture for the United States, and his message to farmers was to get big or get out, and everything was really kind of working against us. We We're selling to places like Kroger and picking up a very large change that had hundreds of stores. They had a lot of buying power. And we were borrowing money at 22%. And those chain grocery stores would pay us in about 120 days. So basically, we were borrowing that a 22% And loaning it to them for 100 and 20 days with no interest, then to kind of finish us off. We had a very devastating hailstorm, and it wiped out all the crops and Stood at 19 years old with my mother and father and my brother and sister and all of our neighbors and all of our competitors and everybody that was there to celebrate our failure and they auctioned off every single thing that we owned every tractor, every piece of equipment. My mother's car. And ultimately, our home and we we literally crawled away. It's not a rags to riches story. That's not what I'm trying to paint here. But we started over and we met a lady by the name of Irish Baylin, who was a Trained professional chef she had trained in Europe. And she was going to farmer's markets, which, ironically, we're at a historic low in the seventies and eighties, and she knew we were desperate for a way to be able to figure out how to survive in agriculture. And she said, you know, Really believe there would be enough chefs that would support you. If you would grow it the right way grow for the flavor grow for the integrity of the product growth without chemical. Grow it for flavor growing for flavor grown for flavor repeatedly that was the message and we latched onto both of her ankles and said, Teach us and we wouldn't let go. And she introduced to store stuff and then to another. And then to another. Which led us to California, of course with many chefs there, But obviously Thomas Keller has done an awfully lot for us. He's been on our farm and is a great mentor to me. And has done an awful lot for our family. What an incredible and compelling story..

"Of Fish Emeryville, is about to receive. A huge gift. He is about to receive. Massive influx of our strike bath into the bay and he joins us now in tremendous anticipation of that. Good morning, Andy with a big red bow on top of them. A big red bow around every single one of them. That did it's all done. Well, I think we had an awful lot of spawning take place. Of all places in the lower sand walking and the lower sacramental rivers, You know, usually these fish and a good water year spawn above Colusa. Yeah, that's probably close to 100 River Miles above whether spawning this year. So course there's spawning way up there, too. And there will be a little bit more. But as you know, we didn't get the the numbers of fish up River and a lot of them came in late because there was no water flow. But this week was massive spawning down there and every every male you catches milking like there's no tomorrow so You're about to receive some fish. Well, that's very nice. I know the guys in the lower area here down the Antioch. We're doing really good spooning And you have some of the guys that were fishing down here. We're having great days. So Yeah, well, the fish school up under way down and in deeper water and That Zafon way too fair. Yeah, absolutely. You've like tackle and part of me a multiple, obviously big, big possible fish on at the time there, so well, that's good. Well, thank you for that. We'll have to. We'll return the favor and Yeah. Okay. That's good. That don't compliment. We hadn't a nice week. A halibut fishing. You would say that much fish and a half to two fish a rock with maybe the best week of weather to for We're out on a tour last night. I mean, the weather was just spectacular. And so that's good that a compliment to complement the other half of the big fish. Um, the eye. There was a couple friends of mine that were down there just and private boats and they were just raving about the halibut fishing. I mean, Um, I think there was three of them. I think they ended up with four hell, but because they just didn't feel they needed any more than that to split among the three of them. I mean, how much fish, can you You wanna let freezer burn in your freezer? Right? That's an awful Yeah, but the whole point is, they caught a release. Quite a few others, you know, trying for a bigger one, but they got a lot of nice fish in that £12 range and Just sounded like great fun. Yeah, I would. I would say good for them, too, for having some discretion on that because it certainly went. Fishing is good. You know, the temptation is to keep more that later on you regret taking and particularly on the halibut is, you know, because you get so much yield. Off off of a fish you've got. Yeah, for our depending on how you do it, You get two or four filets, and that's just a small little head and rib cavity. So you get a great amount of years after so and I would say we did have a lot of really nice fish and that 8 to £14 class this week and the good father, good fishing and So, Yeah, we'll take it. We'll take this one in the books every every week for sure. You bet. How's the live bait supply doing? They're hanging in there. It's there turning over a lot you like this weekend could be today is going to be a big day. I'm sure there'll be some big lines. They're over Pier 45. But you guys got to get seven pins that they're rotating through. And it's been good size. It's been, I think, just right. Obviously, it's what the fissure feeding on anyway. So it's always the right here. Where You know, but It's been insist rate. It's good for hook bait. You can fish a good one hour to overlook on it, and the guys will get plenty of meat to get him through the day. They're so it has been the right side of the rock cod boats they've been adding in on Mission it to the fish the coast this week, a few days be in offshore few days. And generally for that fishing. They prefer a touch smaller bait for the rockfish. And so it was probably just on the upper end for the guys fishing rockfish, but well with that being said. No, the guys that use that larger bit catch a larger quality of rockfish, too, If they want to put the time in Yeah. You got to put the time in you gonna stand there and stand at the rod and keep fishing And the guys that good fisherman wind up with the real United second fish. And what do you What do you hearing about the salmon? I'm not hearing too much. I know the commercial guys had nothing but trouble with the wind loud when they opened last Saturday. What's what's happened since Well, we are giving some good. Some good information from the rock, cod guys. Other fishing that the islands and they've told me that they think they can. If he sent the guys out there right now, it would be full speed fishing, Uh, for Sam and so Conditions have been good. All the way outside the 35 of mine all the way up and down the islands. And, of course, there you occasionally hook people releasing someone. The rockfish boats. Yeah, I'm pretty well, you know? Well, you know, what have you heard about the results down in Monterey Bay? It was tough this week before them because of the weather. They did have some weather Dad every day. The weather down there, particularly on the opener, and but the guys did get some fish like 10 to 30 Fish a boat they were getting a pie, which is good, which says that the food column is a pie. S o. I thought it was okay. But they were hampered by the by the hard spring winds which you're limited on the days you could fish it, Z It's not a good recipe for a successful harvest. Yeah, but what's, however, The good news is, aren't they? Northwest winds? Yeah. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. So they can touch down in the base of the guys were fishing down in the bay. But it did sound like the better fishing was up near the line in Pigeon point. Uh, And for whatever reason, that's where that that's where the main area was. Yeah..

How long do we have. The podcasts can go on for hours and hours. So it's really it's really depends on how chatty you're feeling alright so in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight. My wife and i decided we wanted to zibo in our backyard. And i couldn't find anybody to build one by one from so i actually got a lead from a little company and southern indiana. That makes them. They referred me to a dealer quite a distance away and that particular dealer. Didn't want to deal with me from the distanced. So i called the company back and they told me well. The only way you can buy one is if you're a dealer so i asked them what that took and they told me so. We bought two. And i lived out in the country on a pretty well traveled road and We put one in the backyard where we wanted it and then we put one out front and i came up with the name backyard leisure and we opened a business account with thousand dollars. We sold our first gazebo to an old farmer. Who's eighty five year. Old wife had always wanted one. He came and bought it and took it home. He brought his tractor in his pickup truck and trailer and loaded up. Because he didn't want to pay me to deliver it so he took it home and put a big red bow on it. I suppose and gave it to his wife christmas so that was actually it is. That was our very first sale and then my career was in the insurance industry. And i was still active in the insurance industry so we started out very small. We rented some ground and The prime retail area of tara. Hold indiana i put in zibo displays there. I've got a big sign with an eight hundred toll. Free number and i started selling gazebos by appointment one day. We got a call from a manufacturer. That's here in the midwest and they asked if we would consider selling hot tubs. I said well yell but we don't have any place to sell them so at that time there was a little corner not too far away. From where are gazebo display and tear ho was we ended up renting that it was a two car garage and small building that we used as a office and a small store where people could buy. Chemicals is very small so we did that. I believe that was from two thousand three until two thousand seven. That's how we sold hot tubs. I can't imagine you knew what you're getting yourself into with hot tubs because gazebos and even patio furniture. You kinda you sell it. You drop it off. And that's the individ hot tubs. There's a lot more touch points between the dealer and consumer that's right. We did have some inkling what we'd need. We hired a young man to help with our deliveries and our service aspect of it. Then i also had an older gentleman that would man the office building and sell for us. We were fairly successful on a small level. You know i mean enough to where it didn't cause me to thank well. I need to stop doing this. So in two thousand six. We decided if we're to do this. We need to actually find a place to do it. You can't sell hot tubs out of a two car garage forever. So we re released a six thousand square foot building. That was actually just right next door to where we had been operating. We lease that and we moved in there. After a year of being there under lease we bought that property and as time went by of course we expanded our offerings and so forth and then of course in twenty eighteen we had the fire and then once that happened we ended up moving into the location that we are here when you really decided to go. Full force into hot tubs. It was what you year or two before the recession before kind of hot tub sales plummeted at least across the country. I mean what was that. Like for you guys. I mean you can have had gone all in got the six thousand square foot showroom and next thing you know the whole country is in this economic depression right. Let's actually kind of one of the things that we think has helped us to be successful. is that we. We didn't really experienced the glory days. Were told you know back in the early two thousands that it was pretty easy to sell. Hot tubs swell. At that time we were. We were nothing really. You know so we were operating on a shoestring and you know. By the time everybody else was experiencing something of a crash for us. F1 agrees to engine freeze for 2022
"I up and essentially we chatting about two issues in one segment. Here it's the main takeaway points from thursday's meeting if the f. One commission in the meeting unanimous approval was given for an engine freeze to come into play from start next year. Movies only really agreed in principle as the commissioners requested additional details regarding the freeze before it's formally confirmed the push Free was originally led by red bow hopes to take on the honda engine project off to the manufacturer lease again of the twenty twenty one john first of all. Because i think it's always worth giving it such a vague title is the f. One commission and more than has agreed upon in relation to this engine freeze at this stage so therefore the commission has existed for decades. Now it's always been viewed as carnival. The first stage of the the formal kind of rules process so their firewood would meet with say sporting directors or tentacle directors service spotting working group technical working group when they would kinda work on ideas and proposed proposed ideas then in the up to the loss congresswoman. You'd have a strategy group which evolved the top teams who would then vote on stuff that affected the top teams only which became a big bone of contention that stress groups. Now so what we. Now have the f. On commission which used to be made up of a mixture teams the f. won a few representative and engine many representative sponsor representative but now now the situation is much simpler. It's thirty members. Ten votes ten votes for one ten votes for the team Basically if you wanna get rules changed instantly it's now called a supermajority so the need for unanimous support is no longer there. It's twenty eight votes. Which means you can't have a situation. I had lost. Sight is blocked the reverse. Grace idea you'd need at least three teams began something for its get blocked so i think is a much better process now should hopefully ensure you know a bit more ensure bit more of a more structured process in a collaborative process as if seemingly engine freeze swing in the old days. You would have been unlikely to get full support for an engine freeze. But it's been work tons to fundamental is determined to bring a new era into one where things get done properly. We've seen the the first outcomes of that yesterday indeed. How big a decision is they. Sytems of what it means more could it potentially due to the future patients regarding the competitive order in formula one. Yes a massive thing. I think we've seen we saw the past few months ever since honda announced his exit from athlon redbook very constant. They said we've got lots of options very relaxed about things and even though there are only seems to be three manufacturers. They could worked with mercedes ferrari and renault. The rules sat side if none of them came forward to give supply deal when i would have to appeal because it supplies the fewest teams. So i think that But it was never something. The red bull really wanted to go down the avenue so they were always very competent than most at taking over the honda engine projects. Which obviously would be a huge undertaking. But they always said it was dependent on a development and f one for the engine side and that as being something that seems so gone back and forth on the past months. Initially you had red bull mercedes very much in favour. Ferrari were against it. Then ferrari goal agreement to bring forward new regulations for the power units from two twenty six twenty twenty five so they were on board but they wanted a balanced performance style mechanism to show no manufacturers called left behind the ladies. Were against it again. And sorta gone back and forth and so we finally got that none of station three. And yeah i think it is. It's very important for the competitive order because it means the ultimately once we get to the start of the twenty twenty two sees an your power unit is set then until the end of twenty twenty four and that's really really huge thing and it's been made very clear by those out in the meeting. There is no balanced performance. Sort of element to this. There's no that if you find yourself suddenly behind you've got to get some benefits. Maybe increased fuel flow or anything like that. Spare catch up again. It is very much that you've gotta get it right first time around. So it's i think bread bullets very exciting is a really cool opportunity to do something you and take on the honda projects which are saying through rights the twenty one but there is also the risk of if they don't get it right and the star twenty twenty than they're going to be stuck in a position for a couple of years so it's going to be pretty high stakes going into next
