So you can be smart funny and black with us. Small. This. So funky. Here. We are. So close to my special coming out. I can't even kind of deal like I can't even like deal. But today's episode is not going to be about my special. No, no, no. Today's episode is. Oh my God. I feel like semi leeann Jake Ryan in sixteen candles or like, I forgot that guy's name. But he's looking at Samantha Beckett in can't hardly, wait or. What other crush movies? Can we discuss I'm a very big crush movie fan? You know, there's been a lotta great crush movies are just named to legendary ones demanded to say the can't hardly wait is legendary. Yes, I did. Yes. I did. Because can't hardly wait exemplifies an era. Those of us who came into our later teens in the later nineties. It was a time. Okay. We were a special type of person, and the fashion was terrible the music waning. But nonetheless, we perceive geared, okay. We persevered through jinked through warm sneakers and through glitter shadow to become who we are today. So you can't forget where you came from also the soundtrack to gain. Hardly, wait, kind of major it even as the non quasi deejays version of shorts. Sing my way. Which is. Ooh. The Dow Jones. The second Nicey your I thought the guy and want to the caved it bring him with. Very different than that the club on a Friday night. Do me right for days was all dance. Boy. Which anybody who knows knows that. That's like one of my favorite songs of all time behind social deputies. All my boom. I'm digressing the reality is that crushes are real. And we have crashes like at all phases of our life in Adelaide leci- in teen hood, adulthood, some are thinking about your crush right now. He's got a crush right now. You're thinking about someone right now. You're just like man super duper dope. Remember, actually when Orleans character finally gets, okay? With a Brazilian crush. Because you can't because she's got a brother who has mental illness. And she's got it like really tend to him. And you're just like that they end up getting together at the end, you see it at the airport, and you're just like ES they worked it out. But crushes can also let you down right? Like, you finally it sometimes you can let yourself down when you finally get the opportunity to like hang out with your crash. And you're just like, oh, this is not what I thought like you sit down with your crash, and then you say something like really wildly Trump attic. And you're just like did you fucking vote for? Fucking trump. You know, or they sit down they said something wildly radio like just ridiculous and stupid. Like, I found Star Trek to be monotonous what which one next generation is that you know, what this isn't going to work for me. It's not gonna work. It's not gonna work. But then there's times when you finally get to meet your crash, and it's just like my God. Exactly what I was going to be moving. Rebecca is looking at me with such Ignace. And I don't appreciate it. Any who I think as we get into a jam drop? I'm very excited about the episode because before it's over I'm going to run down every crush that. I had through grade school, and it's a long one. It's a long one. I mean, there's at least five I'm thinking, and I will tell you the things I did to acquire their attentions. None of which were successful. We'll get into that later in that one time. But first, let's drop a gem on them. Gee dropping. These 'em Joplin is a crush versus a prospect. So the crush is basically when you like somebody that's really all about what exists within your mind. It's all for you. You're not taking any actions, necessarily, you may show some like flirtations, but you are not by any means like moving forward in trying to turn this into something real a prospect is someone who you have an attraction to and you're trying to figure out how can we make this into something? And there's really a strong distinction because a lot of times a crush can turn into a prospect. But then there are times where a crush becomes like not a prospect. Once you find out more about them, the crushes such a fun space to be in because it's like fantasy. It's like you're in the clouds, you slow dancing with Laurenz Tate to to a nineties. Hip hop song or better yet and ninety slow jam record. You know, you're from like that is a crush. Okay. When it's really just like. Your own story that you are in with this person. And they don't need to know about it. They don't need to understand it. It's all for you. And it can be so fun and liberating and free. I mean, I that's where I was like so basically on the set you have a set crush, you know, it may not you're not trying to like be with this person. But the most when you aren't set for sixteen hours a day. It's like nice like be attracted to somebody in the real world. You would not probably even be dragged to this person. But on this here set, they're the most attractive person for you. And so you have somebody to look at and like, you're just doing your own shit. They are not even remotely aware that you have feelings for them. But you're like positioning yourself that you can get to be around them. It's just your own game. That's a crush potential is when the decisions that you're making are not just about you upholding the crush the decisions and choices that you're making are about you advancing the possibility of you in this person because. Romantically involved, and that is a shift, and that is definitely different than a crush. Because you don't want them to necessarily know that you have a question them. That's the whole thing because you wanted to keep it to yourself the prospect, you want them to know, I'm interested, and you trying to figure out ways to kind of get them to understand that you're interested in that. They're interesting now, here's the doozy. Knowing when to employ the different options because sometimes you trying to make somebody a prospect that you should have just kept a crush either. You didn't do enough research, or you know, it's not the right scenario or they're going to just ruin it. It was better when you didn't know that they could not spell, maybe. It was better admit it. So this is a real thing. It was better. When you didn't know that they have answered the door to a date, but as naked. I had a crush on somebody on these interwebs for two years two years. I was waiting for this negative land in my DM's. Y'all two years up old him two years ago with the mindset of you will manifest you will manifest, but I never made any move. I would look at the Instagram like still cute still talking about should. I think is interesting still doing things I think is interesting, but I'm not gonna make a move. It's just a long it's just over there. It's a crush since world and then the day after new years. Who lands in my DM's, Mr. crush? Hey, I really appreciate your take on things. Very refreshing. So now, we add this little, you know, quickly back and forth. And I said did you see the arc Kelly documentary, by the way talk about because I think they actually relates to this conversation about how you have a crush. You can have a dangerous crush, you know, because like when you are obsessive and. Fanatical that's a crush that can become very problematic and turned into stocking. And can also put you in danger. But I'll get back to that. I asked the guy did you are sorry. Documentary. He said, no, but it's my day off. So should I watch the documentary or should I get your number and gets? No, you better. Now Brendon just turned his nose up because Brendan realized off top this brick. I in my insecurity was like. I got funding. Because I still in question mode, y'all I'm ceiling crush mode. I haven't transferred over the prospect mode where you start looking at people's behaviors very differently. I'm still in crush mode where it's just like the we get on the phone. During the conversation. There's a lot of laughs, very, intellectual. But then there's some red flags that pop up like I told a story about my life. And I was like some story. He tells me a story and the story he chose to tell of all the stories in his whole life of thirty four years the story he chose to tell was about how when he was at boarding school. He had a. A fire escape outside of his window and so him, and his roommate realized that they could sneak girls up into their room, and that then they realized that they could actually rent their room out there boys to sneak girls up and they would rate. The girls that's how they would determine the cost of the rental fee and that him and this dude got into it. Because his he was rating the girl at a fifty and the guy was saying, no, she's an eighty and I'm like, what are we talking about right now? Why are you telling me the story? He's like knows my high school days. But the fact that as a grown me, and he thought that this was like a story that you like open with immediately the crush now is dwindling because like. So then as always I do my due diligence, and I do my research, and it came back down the wire that he had met somebody else on Instagram came out to their where they live for a conference. They set up a date. She goes to meet him. And he's like, oh, you know, meeting you though, tell room, and then we'll head out, and when she gets the door he opens the door but ask naked, and she's like what the fuck. And then he tried to turn it on her. And it was like what I was just sleeping. Why are you like making a big deal out of this? No more crush, no more prospects. But it would have been cool if he had just stayed at crush, right? But once I learned more once we entered into prospects phase because he pushed us into prospect phase when he hollered at me it let me know you are not crush worthy. But any means he lucky I don't say his name on his damn podcasts. Opening doors naked for women because by the way, that's predatory behavior. Okay. It's predatory behavior, and it's problematic. And it speaks to the again reality that there are men who are out here really thinking like I can do whatever the fuck I wanna do. And I'm not going to have any repercussions. You fucking knew that I was going to find that out. And of course, I ended things by saying, you know, it's a small world. He actually did not respond to me. And then I said, so did you you're not following me? And he was like I was never following you wrong. Answer as well. So you landed him ideas, but you weren't following me. He's like you're not hard to find on Instagram Europe. Rick. And I said, you know, what let me just let me let you know one thing you can be all the Rhodes scholars, and you can have all the scrubs. But it does not change the fact that if you are opening the door, but as negative women who do not encourage that you are no different than Negga Jack in his on the on the to train to Harlem. Stop the predatory behavior. All caps, stay up blocked. So I say all that to say that sometimes it's just better to keep the crush the question in your mind, let it marinate. And sometimes you see the flags and you're like, that's fine. Because I don't need to know about that. Because I'm not trying to be with that person when but when you move into prospect phase, you have to let the fantasy element of the crush go. And I think that's the problem that a lot of us fall into we move into prospect phase, and we still keeping the fantasy element of the crush there. And then we're letting shit slide in the prospect phase because we are not looking at this person as a real person, we're looking at them within the context of the fantasy that we created for them. And that's where a lot of us get fucked up. That's where we stay in situations that we shouldn't be in. That's where we let it slide as where we find ourselves being wooed by behaviors that are not okay. For instance, this person the first thing he said to me was after we talked for a little bit. He was like, yo when you come into boss. Sten? And I'm like, I don't understand. I I was like, well, I have a show out there. He's like ninety to see you before. Then now if I was still in crush mode. I would have been flattered by that. Right. Because you're like, oh my God. Of course wants to see me. And I think a lot of us would be like that. And we fall into the bullshit because we're like. Attention acceptance assurance. But then you can't let that happen, y'all. Don't let it happen. Once the prospect element moves into space. You gotta take a whole nother stance. You're no longer in the clouds. Your feet gotta be grounded and rooted in protection of you. And my response to him was I don't get zone. So enjoy your crushes. I know right now like I'm trying to think do I have a question. Anybody right now? No. But you know, what I will also say you can have a crush while having a prospect, you can be with your man and have a crush, you can be in a full ass relationship and have a crush it gets dangerous when you care more for the crush than the person you're with but people always talk about hall passes and all this shit, you I'm saying, but I don't I don't rock with that with that at all. But you can absolutely have all kinds of questions celebrity crush grow crush boy, crush sports crush set crush. Hello crushes. The Al I've had all the crashes, and I will finish my set crest story later, but I think we've really broken down the difference right here. And I think we've also found is the reality of the fact that fantasy is fun. But once she gets real let fantasy go, but the reality is that a lot of people consider crushes to be somebody that they want to be a prospect and the bridge is trying to get from crush to prospect. I'm sure all these questions are going to be people who are trying to bridge from crush to prospect. But I think that's also. And that's why I was like you gotta wonder like is this someone you should build a bridge for. But then you have some people who never build a bridge. They just get stuck into the virtual reality of their crush. And they become an episode of black mirror where they never leave their minds. They never leave crush land. There just in the tumbler of their mentality of their cerebral cortex. And next thing, you know, they're thirty three of virgin have three cats. And incredibly fast wifi. Listen, and it's not because they don't want human interaction. But it's because they've actually become more just kind of like stuck in the continual cycle of like, I'm just going to like this person within my control space. And I think that there's a fear. That's kind of behind that. You know? I think they may say there may be a certain people who say like, no, I literally I'm just okay with this. I'm like, and if you're a sexual I can get that. But like, I think for some people it's the fear of rejection. It's way easier to manage this crush or this this fan. Stan I have, you know, then you have people who only crush on like characters the really crush on smallville, and you're just like that's not a real person. And so I want to encourage like action and pursuance, and I think that's something especially like for women in particular. We're not necessarily as like. Supported to do. But we'll probably get into that. Because I already know. I know you're are going to be like, I have a crush. I'm trying to that's really what it is. What it is. I have a crush them trying to in the prospect a prospect for what? Because really the reality is that some people should just remain in a crush, some people could be a prospect. But maybe they're not a prospect for yo relationship. Maybe they're just a prospect for New Year's Eve bathroom makeup session. I've done it twice. It's a new it's a new. You gotta step into it. You gotta get fresh. You gotta get fit. That'd be about the health y'all in the hospital earlier this year, literally when I say earlier this year. I mean the second day of the year because my inside was wiling. And that made me really be like, okay. Small doses or by texting small doses to five hundred five hundred that's five zero zero five zero zero and again, listen Barbara chain. Okay. Far and wide the most the MTA questions today about how you because I knew how do you transition from crush space to prospects? How do you do it without? It'd be an op word. How do you do it as a woman? How do you do it? You know without putting yourself in a situation where you might look great. First of all, there's a lot of factors that you have to look at, you know, like do you all work together? Because if you work together, you brothers say shit. Okay. We all understand that sexual harassment Israel. We all may not understand the dynamics between being superior and having someone that is lower in the hierarchy than you. If you tell them that you have a crush on them. They now are put in a just is position where they can naturally feel like they have to require the crusher else you as their boss are gonna feel some type of way, you don't wanna put somebody in that position. So if it's a work situation, I feel like a lot of times it might just be smart to just chill. Not even bring it up. If you both work on parallel, you know, your equal in status. Maybe if there's an opportunity where you're not at work. Maybe not even at work franction. You know, you just maybe you guys ran into each other on the train or something, you know. I don't I just don't ever support like bring it up at work because it can go left. It can go left. I also feel like you have to look at like. Again, is this person really a prospect? I had someone in my say I have a crush on a guy that I work with we've only kissed once. But the problem is that I'm as superior, and he has two kids when baby mamas. No, no, no, no. That's not the Rodham. That is actually the reality. The problem is that you have allowed yourself to have feelings and express them for someone who's you are the superior for and who has demonstrated that you know, they might be a little bit of a Rolling Stone. Boo. Boo. It was a roll down. Daggummit? He said dad gum it. Wherever he ate his hat was home. And when he that. Illit? So you know, that situation to me I'm like that you need to shit. You better be careful that they should come back to you at HR because that's not like bam. Now, let's say your question at the gym. You know, let's say the you don't have the issue with work is someone who you are in a space with, you know, maybe it's a mutual friend. Maybe it's a friend of a friend. Maybe it's a brother of a friend excetera. I'm just very honesty of the best policy kind of galman. And I think the key becomes delivery. You know, you don't have to be like I want you to my brains out that might be a bit much. But I think there is something noble and honorable in letting somebody know, hey, I just think you're dote, man. I think you're don't I recently told somebody like, listen as them, I you have a friend. He said, no. And I said, well, you should be on a date. I would love to go. Now, we ended up going on the date because when I did my background checks. It didn't work out. If I get to flags in the background check. I dead. It something are like the reason being because your reputation should not proceed you in a negative fashion. And oftentimes if there's two flags that are about your character personality about your character. Then I don't wanna find out if there's a third one. If anybody did a background check on me. There would they would simply get like Amanda is a lot. Amanda is very intense. Amanda is is you know, direct. Amanda is demanding none of these are character. These are all personality traits, and the reality is like you can look at the prisoners telling you that information, it'd be like. Was she demanding were you just late, you know, etc. So there's that kind of awareness that you have to have. But again, again, I extended it to him and he was replied in kind. You know, one of the other questions that it was coming up a lot in these EMT's was is it, okay? For a woman to shoot her shot. You know, we are in a different era. I definitely feel like it's okay. Does your shot? I definitely feel like being pursued is done differently now. And I'm not saying that you shouldn't be pursued. I'm not saying that someone should not have action that is intent based to let you know what they wanna do and how they want to do it. But I think that it takes two to Tango. Because I know I know I know we are like. Well, you think so I even talking about this that and listened whatever Jesus was single to which I'll be listening to him all the time. So the reality is that when it comes down to like pursuing and being pursued. It's also about your style. Like, I don't want. I don't feel like I will connect with somebody who feels away about me being responsive to them pursuing me, you know, like, I'm not saying I have to be completely open. But like the playing hard to get shit like the game of that is just it's really tiresome for me. I'm so busy that it's like it's almost built into my damn schedule that I'm hard to get. But I understand why a lot of women are like I don't wanna be fucking bothered with adding to pretend I don't like somebody pretend I'm not available because men have to feel like they're chasing. And that is like we all gotta shift. We all gotta shift because then you have men who were like on the catch. So you're gonna have to chase me. How about we pursue each other? How about we not call it chase like I'm fucking running from you. And we just pursue each other. And we have our individual ways of how demonstrate that. So you have to think like what is your way of wanting to pursue somebody and be pursued. My way as I let them know if they haven't already let me know. I let them know. Like, you know, I don't or I'm interested. I would like to go on a date. They either pick up on that and go forth or they don't. And that's that. And as long as they're polite about it. What you get to do is still have a crush on him. Cards on them ended up to kill your ego that they didn't fuck what you like that. You know as long as they're even if they're like, I'm sorry. I'm just not. I'm not in a dating space. That's fine. Keep yoke crush Keough crush. I had a crush on a a male actor, and I basically was like what's your situation? Because I need to know if I need to make this question into a prospect, or if I need to keep it as a crush. And he told me that he's not in a dating space and he's really working on himself etcetera etcetera etcetera. Cool where homeys now I have retained my crush it exists in a, you know, clouds area, and I have noticed to turn that into anything real. Because the crushes fine long about of course, Lawrence Tate that crisis like thirty five years old. I'm never going lurid. Stays happily married. You know, he's over there. I actually can communicate with Lawrence Tate. But the crush is just that over, you know, in my dorm room watching love Jones feeling that continues to resonate in a certain space, even though I know the real person, it's almost like, they're two different entities altogether. Actually, really, it's like there's state. I then there was the state that I'm slow dancing with at prom. You know in the clouds of my imagination. What do you do when you feel like you're crush is out of your league? Well, the band's I mean are they out of your league because of looks out of their league because of finance or the out of your league because of their status, you know? I mean, I think at the end of the day. It's like you gotta look at yourself and like your own insecurities on why you think someone is going to quote out of your league out. They know valley. I mean, that's I mean, even if I'm in a headscarf getting off a plane, I'm shoot the shop. You saw it happen on my Instagram. You saw tennis bay tennis bay was playing. He was fine ship from the back. I could tell about a back his neck that he was fine from the front. That's a skill that. I have don't ask me. How I don't ask me how it developed. But it's something that I know about myself, you got to know his skills when I got off the flight, I was in first, and he was in coach I had to wait till he got off. And then I had the pursued a see was I right? Of course tends to be was fine. Ship tennis bay was fine shit. I had on of tracksuit and Gucci headscarf. Do you think that stopped me from going to say Hello to tennis bay? I went over. And literally all said him was you are gorgeous. I just wanted you to know and said, would you mind me taking a pitcher to document the finest? He said, no problem. We took a pitcher within twenty four hours due to the internet's. He was identified as loan. Stevens tennis coach she be coaching with him. He's married. He got babies that doesn't change. The fact he finds shit these are facts K, and I was very glad that I could tell somebody that because I don't think man get compliments in that way often. And I think that's really important to know any men that are listening. Someone can tell your fine without wanting to fuck you. Because like I mean, I've tell men that they're gorgeous and kept moving never thought about it. Again, it never even occurred to me, you know, that they were anything other than just somebody who acknowledged like, yo you beautiful, and you keep it up you chunk the deuce. And then they think like oh away. No, no. I wasn't interested in your penis. I was aknowledging face. That's what was happening. I don't think anybody should be considered out of your league. Unless you feel like you are not living up to your best. If you feel like somebody's out of your league was you're like Dan there. Hello philanthropic. And I don't do shit for people. Then you should be starting to do shit for people, it sucks that it somebody that you wanna fuck do is ship people making you do shit for people. But as saying goes Ainhoa wrong reason to do right? So let it guide you. But in terms of like, oh, they're finer than you thought that, you know, they're richer than you. So I will say this there that can be a situation because especially when it can be a dude like because I feel like we still live in a society where it's very built in fermented feels some type of way about their finances. And it's like if you are a man and you're not like confident in your self. Your character. And like you are going to be stressed out by the woman that you're pursuing like having more than you don't pursue don't pursue. I had somebody tell me that they were going to holler at me two years ago. But they realized right before they hollered, you know, I am not ready for this. Because I know what she's about. Now, you know, he was like you were out of my league. But I think it wasn't necessarily that I was out of his league. In terms of like, I was better than him or too good for him, etc. But I was out of his league because I was playing at a different level of dedication. So I was in the majors, and he was in the d league's okay. And in the majors where playing for real relationships real connections. You know, we're doing real. Things in the world d leagues you play in because you playing around he was playing around. He was out here. He was doing him. And he was like, you know, what I shouldn't step to her unless I'm really ready to commit to my professionalism in the game. And then he hollered. So there are times when it's not necessarily about like they're out of your league because they're better than you were there finer their richer etcetera, but more so because there's some different page. They're just an differently. They're not out of your league. There isn't a differently. You may have different ones at the time. You may also have different abilities and capabilities to achieve those ones to satisfy those ones, and it's always best in my opinion. You gotta get over your ego, and your selfishness 'cause I definitely we've I think a lot of us have been scenarios where we've been used for that reason where somebody knew that they were not in the same league as you in terms of their your wants and desires, and they took advantage of your feelings. Because in that moment of selfishness, they wanted to feel what you have. But they weren't able to commit they weren't able to sign that that contract they weren't able to put on the uniform. They weren't able to learn the dance in the locker room. They weren't able to do it. So nobody's really out of your league. I think they're just maybe. On a different course. And. I think that if you're trying to figure out. What that is kind of figure out. Preliminary conversations. It's true, man. You know, you've got gotta pay attention. All of this information that I say is for the preservation of yourself your mind. So like all these episodes are really just about us trying to like move through this world as healthy as possible with as few scr- like unnecessary scrapes and bruises and wounds. The reality is that a lot of us have scars, but you don't need to always have wounds and some of us keep reopening the wounds, then we pour salt in the wound. Then we pour Hennessy in the wound. You know, then we try and like invert and dancing wound ourselves, and it's like, nah. So that should up you're going to have a scar. That scar will be a reminder to you on what happened then. So that you cannot keep doing it over and over again. Next question. What do you do when you find out? Someone has a crush on you, and it's not somebody that you have a crush back on. Well, first of all, you don't do what Rebecca did in high school, which is go and run. You don't do that. I mean, I told you the Scott Cunningham story where it's got Cunningham pulled me aside in front of the librarian said you had a crush on me. I'm very fled about that. But aware that there are titties that you do not partake in that Cartlidge partaking, and I would never want you to feel pressure to partaking activities. But I'm not going not taking those activities. So we should just be friends. I mean, I appreciate appreciated that as you. 'cause I lived Jit did have course Cunningham. You know, I think. I think the best thing to do is to really just be compassionate about someone's feelings. And I think it can be a really hard thing to balance like being honest, but also not leading them on because I think sometimes people like their only way to deal with something like lead, someone is like, no, no, no, no. That's not safe either don't do that. So it can really just be about saying, listen like, I think you're super dope. Think you're super cool. But I just don't think we're on the same page. And as I let someone down easy, and it doesn't have to be crazy. And if someone, but but but I do feel like someone's got to put people out of their misery. 'cause like people will come for you like over and over again, it's like the unit you have to say like, hey, it's just. This is this is gonna work out. I think you're sue again. I think you're Superdome. I think you're super cool. But I just don't think we're a match. And then you just hope that they don't start talking you. But. We love mental health here. We really really do. We love it. We are about it. We talk about it. And we'd be about it. That's the thing. We don't just talk for talk sake. And now, you go talks base and talk for toxic. What I mean the difference is that when I was in Darfur toxic. That's like people who talk about ship ain't really bow shit. When you go to talk space, you're talking about shit because you wanna be about your mental health talking about shit because it's on your mind talking about it because it's bothering you or maybe because it's lifting you the reality is a lot of people don't have anyone to talk how they wanna talk to. All you need is a computer with an internet connection or the talks based mobile app, and they're affordable. And no matter what you're going through. You're not alone. Because over a million people feel happier with. Fox base. They've talked about it. And it's convenient easier to use you'd have to wait for your next appointments talk about what's on your mind with talks base. You can send unlimited messages to your dedicated therapists from the privacy of your device anywhere at anytime of day. And they're dedicated to helping people live happier lives. You know? Now, they have talks base for teens one in five children deal with a mental health issue in their lives. That's why talks based now has counseling for teens ages thirteen and up man, I could've used that. Instead, I was writing poems thinking, I was we'll talk space can message a licensed counselor from their phone or computer, anywhere anytime, and you all know with the amount of bullying going on the way that the cyber bullying is happening excetera. There's this stuff that dealing with their parents won't even be able to really understand and help them with. And they may not even feel safe talking to their parents about what we're talk space. They can get the counseling and get the advice and get the interaction that they need without having to keep it all internalize. So definitely something. I there was Kelly. Kelly went to mentioned school. He was a fifth grader when I was a kindergartner. He had blond hair blue eyes, and he listened to run DMC fascinated. Fascinated then I left last night just willing to Florida. I attended palm lake oh Metra school where I immediately began to crush on several and Seth Ragland was gorgeous Brown skin. Boy in my class skinny set next. Ryan Pen-li, they'd make jokes all day long. They were hilarious. Forrest Gump came out. They'd quote that shit everyday to this day to this day. I when someone talks about running I think back to Ryan Pen-li and set Ragland saying you just run. Seth gave me a Valentine in fourth grade. And let me tell you you can tell me shit at our fifth grade dance Seth showed up in his genes to the back, Allah crisscross. So I had the days. Then we went to south middle school south middle school had a crush on individual whose name I will not name because they like to use my name for fame when they feel like it. But he was the only black boy that was in the midst of all these rich white kids, and he was mean, but I still like had a crush on him. I don't even understand it. And he I had of course, in for like I'm talking years y'all like literally five years out of questions person for no six seven years. Eight years was four plus three seven seventies that brand NEW GUINEA somewheres. They'll gimme some words. Y'all one analogies. Joe one analogies. I do that. This is this as that is that I could do that. Don't ask me to ask you that though. And I had a crush on him for quite sometime Godse high school, and my crush list exploded. I mean, it was like I couldn't even keep them just organized. I it was Kenyan Adams. I mean, first of all everybody in the school had a crush on Kenyan fucking Adams, Denzel Washington, Dr Phillips high school, people will come our drama club meetings were packed like a dick because of Kenyan atoms and by the way, there was also a secondary crisis. That people had on a lotta Miller. I didn't have that crush on. Lonzo Llano is the Wanda wise was the star. She's gotta have it. That's her husband Alano at DP was like him and Kenya were damn near the Casey. And Joe Joe of conductive aside school, and it was serious. Kenyan Adams told me one day that my logo curly, and I'm never attempted to straighten it again for like six years. On the flip side of that senior year. Canoas white was overheard telling Scott Cunningham, and let me tell you why it was so real that. I would delay our rehearsals for my like, I would be producing and directing set for competitions, etc. I would delay our hertzel's in our just so we could go sit on the wall and watch them like watch like the boys walk from football practice to the gym and back watch them like just just cavort outside of the school. And everyone was fine with this. Nobody was like delaying rehearsal. No, everybody knew we won't go sit on this fucking wall. And we're going to watch the beauty in blackness. That is this these individuals could worse white was one of them Canoas white not carry a backpack, which in hindsight seems problematic. Nonetheless. His cut is haircut was always just SU tight. He had like a localized face. He had beautiful white teeth in a smile, and he would always talk to me in this library acquire light. This men will serve I doing. And Canoas one day. I overheard telling Scott Cunningham, Amanda got caveman feet. Y'all. You've heard the story before I did not wear open. Toed shoes for two years because of this. But the crush was so real we used to have a name for crushes. We'd call them visas because apparently vs. In addition Ediburgh means look, I think and so we'd be like these then we would out names for individual crushes are Mondelez or Monday. Of. I'm out of the less was my crush for the duration of my eleventh grade world history class with Mr. belter he sat in front of me. His hair was always cut to perfection. He had great tasted music so much. So that when he said that he loved why clubs gone till November. I made it my business to learn all the words and then be casually singing it behind him in class. So that he could be like, that's my damn too. Then like one time we hung out. It wasn't until I became an adult that I realize Amanda all these guys that you had crushes on that you thought maybe like to back you were flat chested fifteen year old. Nobody was checking for you. But actually, I take that back because Kenyan we ended up ended up getting my f- f k my first French kiss from Kenyon Adams at the at the end of prom in tenth grade. And then he like started liking me, and it was like, I don't know what to do with this like you were my crush. And like, I literally couldn't build a bridge. It was like, no you're like you're going after college. Like, I can't like, I don't know. Like, this is crazy, but you know, the quest game throughout all like middle school elementary school. High school was very very thorough. When I'm at Brandon, Victor Dixon and nine thousand ninety nine at the arts week all the crush was incredible so much so that I made it possible to be sitting next to him at any chance. I get I remember like we we watched like we had. Go to this dance show, and I had to like use like Jason Bourne tactics to make it. So that I could sit next to him. So that my thigh could touch his in hindsight he is revealed that he was completely unaware of all of this. None the wiser. But that's what the whole thing about a crush is. Right. Like, I'm doing it for me. Like all of this is the game. I'm playing with myself notice how it was on our side effects of platonic relationships episode because even though I had a seventy nine it was never acted on. Never brought to fruition because it was just a crush. I think I still have a crush on Brandon. But it's not like I want to ever do anything other than just have a crush on Brandon. The crush is great. I love you. You can see Brandon as Collins in the live television performance of rent on FOX on January twenty seventh. Go back up. So that we did he's on it. So those are the people I liked I did I liked them. That. These breezes to that one time now, you're probably saying, Amanda, how would you still have crushes your thirty seven going up thirty. Can you still have a question worse? Course, you still have a crush. I said we have set crushes. You know, like I mean, I was on a set of a show, and I had a set quest. And I told my homeboy on the show. That's my set crush. He was you'll that's my nigga know him. And I was like I get. Nobody needs to know that that's my set crush. I'm just telling you because we stand in here right now. I go to the bathroom. I come back. He's like he will meet you a trailer after Nick. I did not want that to happen. Shit. So fucking now he comes over to my trailer and ends up like revealing to me that he's had a crush on me that he wants to marry me that I'm the one. Yeah. I know it was very extreme. But you know, like, I'm kind of like, a hopeless romantic, and I'm a sucker for a story. So I'm like, maybe this is the story, you know, that like one day MandA was super single and the next day. She was engaged. Ever-greater stories like how we elected Trump as the president. That's crazier story, except when you start to acknowledge it like a lot of white women be lying about before. Until they get in the polls and they've obese on the dick that's in them not on the intellect that they should have. But that's another episode. Nonetheless. The set crush ends up revealing himself to be bash. It crazy. And also somebody who does not understand that. Barack Obama has speechwriters. He was like, I love rock Obama. I love him because he's such a great speaker. He's incredible. You can see when he's speaking him stopping to think about what he's going to say next. And since I have such difficulty in expressing my thoughts and emotions I'm so inspired by him. And I didn't have the heart. Y'all have the heart to be like. Wow. Now, that's actually not was happening. He's pausing because that's what you do between thoughts when you are delivering a speech. So that you cleanse a mental palate. Also, the prompter may be fucked up. He ended up crying in the car. He ended up in the gar-. He cried in the car because he got so frustrated at my intelligence, I'm not even trying to bullshit, y'all. He literally said to me like you just too smart. And I was like. Crying in the car pride in the car guy. The gar backs, and I was like I can't. And I was like why are you crying? And they tried to be like, oh because like I love my mom so much. I don't know if you ever saw the cricket wireless commercial that I did. But I mean, I've been into situations like the names in that commercial that use are all real names of people who I had a crush on. And they reveal themselves to be like. Ooh, no. No, no. And when I asked do later, I asked him I was like, so what do you think is the reason why you fell off and he was like I was going to be too exhausted. Going to be exhausted. I said exhausting. He's at my just the way you think your thoughts thoughts. So once again, I was in the right by saying keep the set crush sequestered because I didn't trust that he could be anything more than that. And someone intervened and fucked it up before the record I would have been happy to just have the set crush. I stay with a set crush I other set crush, and then we were no longer on a set anymore. And so we ended up getting cool, and I really like pressed to turn it from a set crush into something real. And then that was that sound that you heard was not my phone that was me realizing this is not a good idea. Because then we pulled around one time, and he fingered me like he was looking for a coin and Adrain got that pitcher in your head. Got it. Exactly Strache trash. It was like he was trying to get a fork out of a garbage disposal. You know when your fingers are doing that weird. Yeah. Brendan can't take. You're trying to get a coin from the inside of a shoe. You know, you're like down in the front of the shoe like trying to trying to grab it out. You're trying to get a straw from inside of a bottle, and you have to get to the fingers in and try and get the straw out. It's very you know that. Yeah. None of those situations that I just Dila needed for you sound sexy. Do they know side note when a man is fingering, you it should not feel like fingers, that's the whole thing. And if you are like, I don't know what to tell them. So it doesn't feel like that. This is work for me make your fingers do what you can't do. Joints, y'all digs joints. I digress. Should've kept it as a set crush. That's really the moral of the story here. This episode is NSF w and as you. Last. That crash. In do. This is a fun episode had just time listening as I've had doing it. I love of course, was fun. It makes you giddy is. And it was great. When you do get to that prospect phase, then you do start dating. And it's almost like you get a crush all over again on the person that you're dating. It's like you're like, oh, like, I feel like you're like, you know, the NFC that's happening was coming to life because I didn't think it would actually happen. And now it's happening and there's a fun time. And let yourself be getting in let yourself enjoy the crush, let yourself be giddy. Sometimes it's just like don't make that shit real because sometimes real nece is just depressing. And that's why I don't watch the news like, so we gotta keep creches. And I really believe that like keeping a healthy crush can keep you your brain working your excitement, your juices flowing as long as you're not you know, while in and being disrespectful etcetera. Whatever just enjoy it, man. Enjoy the shit. Enjoy the give yourself a treat. That's what crushes it's like a mental like decadence and. Every so often you want to be able to indulge in that and play with your imagination. I think that's other thing to we live lives where we gotta be so focused on reality all the time, and sometimes like let your imagination while with the abandoned that it did when you were a kid, and then use the adult maturity, you have to real shit back in when it's time to actually do the fucking real ships. You gotta do. That's it. And I think that that's the key. That's the key is knowing how to pull the kite in before it gets way to Andhra. You know, and before you get trapped in the vision verses in acting with action and intention so questionably. Crush on. I'm gonna give you awesome suggested crushes Colin Kaepernick. Yes, he has a girlfriend. Understood however, solid brother solid crush Ryan Gosling. Yeah. Mary kids, irrelevant solid. He has broken fights in the streets. He plays. Great roles. Fantastic. Actor. I'm a bird. I'm a bird. What are you? If you're a bird. I'm a bird. Hello notebook. Which by the way, is becoming a musical. I'm ready. Solid dude solid crush if you're more in the head department. Staying late thin director of special STAN is making late seventies. Look like a time period, not an age, Honey. And he's like a great, man. Like he raised all these daughters. He's like very committed to his craft. He's kind gotta love it. Solid. Brother, solid crush. Lastly, I will tell you that I still to this day have a question Ryan developed new edition. He's married these real estate irrelevant. I spent much of my adolescence referring to myself as Robin devoe. Because we were obviously married and when I met him for the time, Robin divo- definitely was like. Twenty six. But when we saw the new edition movie we saw that he was the only one who was level-headed who was cool was fan. And he was played by Keith powers who was also level headed cool as a fan is a great boyfriend to Ryan destiny, but also a solid brother solid crush don't say, I never gave you on nothing.

And she looks amazing. What is my excuse to Rica? I couldn't even. Do. I don't know how she finds all the con-. She like she. She's a fantastic A-List. She's a she's a wife, she her and her husband had a podcast. We talk about that. She has four kids like she works out. I can't even do two out of five of those things. I'm barely making it with two out of the five of those things. I'm barely at analyst. Okay. Much to start with. Anyway, Rebecca's on the show, and we will recap big Monday between South Carolina, Missouri. We're going to preview Notre Dame Tennessee and just hop around a little bit. We get Rebecca spots on Yukon. And just what she feels like is happening in the landscape, a women's college basketball because it's crazy right now. Absolutely crazy. So sit back, relax, wait a minute. I should have did the escape version kick off your shoes. And relax feet, y'all have one little in Atlanta. And now everything is Atlanta's wait a minute. We're is the Super Bowl of from by the way, just really quickly. And I and I said this on Twitter for those that don't know. I'm originally from Boston Massachusetts. Okay. I was born there at Brigham women's hospital, and I'm one of sixteen children. Right. So there's a lot going on in my family. But the bottom line is that my family is huge Pat fans on both sides because my mom and dad both spent a majority of their adult lives in Boston. My mom actually was born and raised there. So. It's just you know with the Super Bowl being in Atlanta. I was praying that she's would win. I soon as Tom Brady put the boat on that thing. My phone starts ringing. You know in my family. Listen, we're not some Boston proper. We're from Roxbury. We're from Japan from bore Chester. Okay. My phone's ringing. Everybody wants to stay at my house. It's not happening. Okay. I don't even like the patriots. Thank you God. Like the patriots cheated. And I don't care how long it was ago. They so I've never forgotten. I'm not a big NFL person. You guys know, I don't love football. I love basketball, but three Rica's football. And I just was upset that that game went to overtime in that Kansas City. Never even got a chance to score. What kind of overtime is that? You already know my feelings on the patriots. And if I want the fans to still continue to like me, I should probably keep my opinions to myself. Oh my goodness. Well, all I know is that I don't see how you have in overtime. You flip a coin to see who gets the football. And then if that team scores, that's it. Time left on the clock cares. Something like that. It's that's terrible horrible come up with some new rules. Anyway, that's enough for football time to get to the basketball. We hope you enjoy our conversation with Rebecca Lobo. And no, you cannot stay at my house or the Super Bowl. I was the belt to. No. All right basketball fans will one thing I promised you was that I was not going to rely on my limited knowledge of what's happening in college women's basketball to keep you guys updated because we have so many people that know much much more about what's happening than I than I do. So I'm excited to have one of my good friends. She's a hall of Famer she is one of the best people that you really will ever meet. She's a mom. She got a podcast with her husband. Please join me in welcoming to the show ESPN women's basketball analyst, Rebecca Lobo, welcome. Rebecca, thank you. Or should I call you re as calls you? This show. I was like I'm so jealous because I thought I came up with the best like rendition of your name, right? It was love beca because for obvious reasons. We're like sisters in China. I thought you should be Becca. But then he said re Becca, and I was like, that's actually pretty pretty cool, which one do you like best I'm gonna make you. Well, I like when you call me, LA Becca, and that's just his accent. That's just his accident. It's not like he's trying to give me an affectionate name. He thinks even though everyone else calls me. Rebecca, do you think that it's Rebekah and oh he does. Yeah. And and I love it. That's that's what he calls me. And and I love working with coach Landers. So so it all works. Does. He have you ever pointed out to him that he says it that way other people have and and he just doesn't really react. I love it. I love it. His accent is fun though. Like, he says the words, and I'm like, what did he say after press rewind and go back and try to interpret it, you know, put my soul feel good because you you should have your ear tuned to the southern way living in Atlanta. So I'm glad I'm not the only one, but let me tell you Atlanta. And then the outskirts of Georgia are totally different. And coach Landers is definitely as we know the farm boy. So he's from the country, you know, and I'm like that accident is we'll do that twang is a little different in that part of Georgia is in Atlanta. But we have fun watching you guys in studio. It's clear that you have fun. But we're excited to have you on the show. There's so much going on a lot for us to unpack fans we are going to recap with Rebecca big Monday game. Between South Carolina in Missouri on MLK day, which was a big big big matchup, especially for the SEC. We're also going to preview Notre Dame. Tennessee wasn't the world is going on with the lady vol's, and we'll get Rebecca's thoughts on just some general things that are happening. But first of all let's kick things off with some sound here. This is tight is the point guard for South Carolina in by the way, the Gamecocks won. They beat Missouri at home seventy nine to sixty five but here's tie hairs with our Beth Moen's and Debbie Antonelli tie. Harris got things going in that second half. What was the key for you guys tonight? Stay composed say poison stay focused on on the game at hand on just this disaster. What you said to stay composed and don't get into the hype with things and owned the stick of the game plan. John. What about you individually did score in the first half and second half you come out especially at third quarter had a big game. What changed for you? My teammates. My confidence. Was down a little bit. But they they was like you're going to get the second half keeps you, and of course, they said something to me before the third quarter. It was like you better shoot you end up with six or someone's gonna have this. I had a piece in it went in how much more fun and officiant is for you. When you have the kind of balance around you that you have now I mean, everybody seems to be getting a little bit better offense. Ably is nice. I'm a loved that. We're dealing at this point in time because this will be needed a is time, and we had to get together. And everybody's scoring and passing and it just looks good. What do you really enjoy about this three point guard lineup that seems to be pretty effective for you guys? You're scoring is gone way up in the last four games. I like that we have balanced we have outside shooters, and we got the inside. And if if one on doesn't do nothing, then we got the other end, and we just run we create havoc on defense. Yeah. I want to ask you about your defense because that seemed to set the tone you guys came out, and you got a couple of steals sport thirteen points in the first quarter off six turnovers. How important was that? For you guys. Get going off to a good start is is very important. We don't get any steals or defense have havoc. We we can't can't score. And then we can't keep the face of the game in our at one keys win pushed him you. Gotta get that done and twenty three points off those turnovers. Eighteen second chance points as your biggest got it done on the boards for you. So this was an intriguing matchup right for a for a lot of reasons for those that have not been paying attention. There's been just a rivalry of sorts that has developed between Missouri and South Carolina. And you can look up the whole story. But basically from just a lot of physical play. You know, Sophie Cunningham is someone that that comes to mind as a very physical player. So in these matchups. You know? I mean, it's been a little ticky tacky, right? And so it started with the kind of the physicality of it. But then for both teams it became a little bit more than that in. There was some accusations that have gone back and forth between the schools about things at the crowd has said there was a lawsuit actually filed by dawn Staley against Missouri. Athletic directors dishes been a lot there's a history, but the game started with a unity, circle, these teams and coaches decide to just bury all of that though. There was some physicality last night. It did not seem like that was the headline. The headline is this new configuration that dawn Staley has on her team. No Asia Wilson. But a lot of back core. Bianca Cuevas more. Take Cooper anti hair is all could be point guards all in the starting lineup. Rebecca wooded you take away from this game. Well, first of all, I mean, I just so impressed with what Don Staley has done with this group and the last I don't know. A month and a half. Because when you watch them early in the season, I was just thinking, oh, this is going to be a rough year for South Carolina. They're just going to have to buy their time until that recruiting class comes in next year because they did not look good early and changing to this lineup with the guards in the line of bath playing really really, well, they really competed against Mississippi State a team who is, you know, top ten team in the country, obviously. So I was I've been really impressed with how Carolina how far they've come in this game. They did exactly what they needed to do in terms of turning Missouri over early and building up a bit of a weed. I think it was a ten point lead or twelve point lead at the end of the first quarter because was wanted to play a deliberate pace that you know, when I was watching the first and second quarter in particular. You know, there were possessions where Missouri wasn't even really initiating their offense until the shot clock was down to fifteen or below. But you can't play that way from a deficit for very long and. And so for South Carolina to jump out the way, they did it got the crowd involved. It took Missouri. Kind of out of what they needed to do in terms of limiting possessions to win and and they just play. Well, and keeping Herbert Harrigan, man. I really liked watching her as well just how her game is he bowled what she's able to do now facing the basket when the three point line, you know, she's given post players a good name right now. Don't you think we? Oh, man. Yeah. You know, what I remember even back to the year, they won the national championship. I just for some reason I was fascinated by her contributions that year. Now keep in mind that was the season where they lost coats. So Herbert Harrigan down the stretch of that run. They had to like throw in the mix. Right. She didn't have the experience. But you could just tell that. There was something about her. She had a bounce yet an energy tour. And so yeah, it isn't so fun to watch her play. I just think it's interesting though, Rebecca that this was a team. And you're right like dawn Staley is has. Had to find a new playbook because they went from relying so heavily on what they could do in the interior, and they were still they still had a great presence on the inside with Jennings and Herbert Harrigan leaguers set off of the bench. I thought she played some some quality minutes, but they relied heavily on their guards. I mean thinking about just the three point line, for example. I mean, they were three for five in the first quarter. So you say to yourself. Okay. There was once a time where you didn't know of South Carolina's gonna hit a three and they've got a little bit more balanced, but it seems like also relying on the their defense from that perimeter play with twenty three points off turnovers. Yeah. And think about it. I mean, they lost one player just one starter from last year team. But, you know, pretty good player nasal we dominated you know, as a rookie in WNBA. But for them this year, you know, even though so many of the pieces are similar what they're doing is very different. And and again credits done Staley and herself 'cause 'cause they did a really good job. And and you you brought up the unity circle. And I understand why they did that. But I kinda like it when teams don't like each other. You know, I grew up in the air of, you know, Celtics, and, you know, the the pistons or the pistons and the bulls or whatever like, it would've been okay, if they didn't have a unity, circle, it would have been okay. Those teams out there, and we're playing hard nose and feisty, and you know, the crowds still booing, Sophie, cutting everytime. She touches. I appreciate what they did. Because of all the all the animosity that seems to be their last year. But sometimes it's okay to have okay. To have that dislike among teams when you go out there. And to Pete though, you kind of feel it between you kinda Notre Dame. I think he's still a little bit. Now. Louisville Notre Dame in as little spices. Spices. Okay. It does. And you know, I'm so glad you brought that up because the last night I was trying to convince some of my friends that are usually on the fence about women's college basketball to tune in wash the game. Right. So I'm like guys. It's big Monday. I'm always on this kick. We gotta watch this game. And they're like, okay. Why should we watch this game? So when I started telling them about Sophie Cunningham, like, you know, she, you know, there's this whole conversation going on issue dirty player is she not like, you know, she's feisty. She does all these things, you know, she's a Grayson Allen of women's college basketball. And then, you know, I was telling them about what happened with dawn Staley, and, you know, obviously, some of these things that happened between these two are very serious, right, especially when you think about the the legal side, but. Take some of that out and just get down to what you what you talked about the physicality, the the rivalry. And in the just everything that kind of makes gang spicy. I think that's a great word. And all of a sudden, Rebecca they were excited about watching it. They were like, okay, which one is number three. She looks like a you know, they were just totally into it. And we've heard this before you, and I get this rhetoric during WNBA season where people are like we want rivalries, right? Like in the WNBA. We want teams that. The year L A Detroit had a little battle. And then people say, well, that's not how women's should be playing. That's not how they should be acting one. Not. It's a natural. Instinct regression is increase in the game. You know, you have heightened emotions around it. I don't see anything wrong with it. No, I agree. And it's kind of the same thing that happened at the end of uconn Notre Dame, you know, with with a Rico Goumba while having some words with coach Auriemma. And then, you know, the the technical like how great is that? If they meet again in NCWA tournament, you know, it's just a little spike. Players. Ed, no, put a little pep Rica on the game is more interesting. And makes it more flavorful. And and it's not it's not necessarily bad. And in a lot of cases. I like, yeah. I'm with you. I'm with you. We'll spies never heard anybody. Okay. That's the Cuban side of Rebecca coming out there. Sticking with the SEC. Well, let me just ask you, this is Missouri legit in your opinion. Because this team that you see with an opportunity to make it to the second weekend in the NCAA tournament or a where do you really see their potential, obviously, we know? Sophie Cunningham is a great player, but anything else stand out to you about this team. Second weekend shore. I really really like amber Smith I like how she plays like how she finishes especially as an under sized player. I think the Sierra porter story is really really interesting and not people aren't talking about it enough. I mean, how often do you hear about a college player medically retiring? And then, you know, Christmas time thing, you know, what might be feels pretty good. I'm coming out of medical retirement as a college player, and then rejoining team like I just think that's fascinating story. But yeah, you know, it this is a time of year, the China, as you know, like conference games conference teams know, how to expose one another like conference games are ugly because the team no each other. So well, they've Scott each other. So well, so you know, it's hard to watch a game. Let last night, for example, between Missouri and South Carolina and say, you know, this is what I can take from from the about Missouri from this game. I mean, it's just so hard when you're playing within your conference. That's why I love. The conference matchup like when we have on Thursday. You know, Notre Dame going down to Tennessee conference. They don't know each other as well, it shouldn't be as much of a bra, and and you know, an ugly game. But yeah, can can Missouri. Make it to the second weekend without question. They can. Yeah. I thought I think Robin Princeton's than a fantastic Dada back to that reporter story. The best part is when she came back. She was able to score her one thousand career points. So she hit a major milestone, you know, had she not return. She would never thousand points. But she got that which is huge as you know in any players career. So that the course she deal to hey basketball fan, stay right where you are. Because me and Rebecca Lobo are gonna dive into the big match up this week between number one Notre Dame and the Tennessee lady vol's plus much much more, including will be see my more this WNBA season. Right after this bring up the lady vol's, and we're going to get to this matchup. This big match up on Thursday between Notre Dame and Tennessee, but right now in conference play in the SEC, they're being led by Mississippi State, five South Carolina's five and one g mentioned on Staley bought that team along Missouri is fourth four and two Kentucky is three into Auburn three two. And there's like a log jam after that. But Tennessee finds themselves in a cellar next to last in the conference standings as they are the they have one win on the season. One in five Vanderbilt as the only team that's worse record wiser, oh and five. There's a lot of discussion right now about the lady vol's. I mean, we're seeing historic numbers. I don't know. They've now lost five games in a row, which is probably thirty or forty years ago. Last time this has happened if this is ever happened. But they've lost to Missouri Kentucky at Georgia at Alabama. Then last night to Arkansas by one point now outside of that game at Alabama. These losses have been close sixty six sixty four seventy three seventy one sixty six sixty to eighty seventy nine so Holly Warlick's team has just not been able to get over the hump. And there's the shock wave going through the women's basketball community right now because this is just not what you know about the lady vol's are you concerned about this team right now? Meaning. Are they not living up to their potential is this youth? What's happening right now. From your perspective. I don't know about the question if they're not living up to their potential because you know, we're not in practice every day. We haven't seen what their potential is. It's a I think a huge part of it is us, you know, seven of the ten players on the roster are freshman and sophomore and freshman freshmen and sophomores, and you know, Ren'ai Davis is supremely talented player. She's really really struggling through this losing streak shooting the basketball, but she's a sophomore. And last year, she was a turn teams third leading scorer. But she wasn't the focus of the opposing posing teams defense that was Reseda. Russell, Jamie yard. They were the ones you regain planning for and this year. Now, it's Mimi Jackson, and I Davis who are going to bear some of the brunt of in terms of their Ponant best defensive player. They're struggling and in particular Mamie Jackson Davis are really struggling with their shots. And I was watching again the. The other day the fourth quarter of their Alabama game, and they had very makeable shots, and they didn't make any of them. You know that quarter started that they were down. They come out to really good mid range shots. They miss them. Alabama goes down and banks and the three in sometimes that's just like how things aren't, you know, the China when you're winning and things were rolling easy to stay rolling vote when you're losing enrolling. It's also easy to stay rolling. And and and they're clearly struggling right now. But I also, you know, Tennessee because they have such a great tradition, but still you need older players in practice, everyday, teaching younger players what wearing that Tennessee on their jersey meat, you know, and it's not just about learning the history. It's not just knowing about Candace Parker and to make a catching and and Pat summitt when when you put on a certain jersey every day, you're you're upperclassmen are teaching you what that means. What what what? Your work ethic is expected to be everyday in practice. What it's expected to be every day in games. And I think we have so many underclassmen that can be difficult thing to pass on. So, you know, these guys again a lot of scrutiny. I really feel for Hollywood. Because I mean, this has got to be really difficult time not only losing losing at home losing and conference. But, but you know, that's that's sometimes what happens when you have teams with this much you. Yeah. And you would know I mean, if you're just joining our podcast where we are talking to the hall of Famer, Rebecca Lobo, you would know about that tradition and how it's passed down. Right. Because that's what happens that Yukon like people, you know, you come in. And this is your talk. This is what happens in this is how we do things. And so I think that the the expectation is always what I struggle with. Right. Like, if this was not Tennessee if they had this roster of youth because I agree with you completely. I mean, I I was just looking at their roster minute ago Ren'ai Davis's a sophomore Vena westbrooks of saw. More. You know, maybe Jackson is that senior presence. But they green is a freshman like a lot of youth. And so if this was any other team with young players playing in in such a such critical positions. Would we be this upset? I mean, people are upset that the lady vol's are not playing well like this should never happen. And I think it also takes a little bit away from the amount of parody that there is an in our game right now. Right. So like, let's not forget about that. Like other teams are better. But I struggle sometimes because I also think that when people put on that orange like you're supposed to win because that's what I'm used to seeing. But to your point about the shooting looking at conference numbers Ren'ai Davis the shooting thirty eight percent from the field and conference play thirty percent from three and then Mimi Jackson, the shooting a dismal twenty three percent from the field. Twenty four percent from three point line. I kind of felt that sometimes that a Veena Westbrook is. Really the key. Like, I've I've felt like I watched Tennessee play when I was in Bahamas Tennessee was there they had tournament Iowa. Was there Florida state? So the good time Clemson just some teams, and I just I was concerned about their motor like that in all honesty. Like, I'm looking at these players that I mean on the floor. They looked like world class athletes. I mean, they have linked at every position they're extremely athletic. You know, they can shoot the ball obviously struggling with some of that right now. But I'm like, wow, look look at these players, but you know, as well as I know Rebecca, they're also for forty minutes has to be a level of focus and intensity into nasty. And so you can't just look at this roster say they're talented, or they have these recruits his McDonald's all Americans like they do have to end understand what it takes to win in forty minutes. And I thought that there were just times at least in the Bahamas, and I haven't washed and play as much as I did early on, you know, in in recent games. But I just felt like they needed a motor like they. Needed someone who was going to set the thing off fire, right? Every team needs that player. And I just didn't see the emotion. I was like, wow. Veda Westbrook to me is their most talented player in my opinion with her upside her size at the point guard spot, and I've always felt like the point guard sets the tone for what's what happens with the rest of the team. So I kept wanting her to be that person. I don't know she has it in her. She played well last night and despite the loss, but I'm wondering what will happen in her development from a leadership standpoint. Because obviously me Jackson is struggling. I think she's a she's a good leader. But she doesn't have it right now. So who will? You know? And I agree with you know, Westbrook is a terrific talent. And she's been the one who's continued to be pretty consistently good even through through the course of their struggles. You know, I can only speak from experience and from watching and I feel like when you're when you're in college, your freshman and sophomore years are our big glowing moments. You learn how to work hard. You learn how to work hard consistently in practice every day. And you learn how to win and even if you look like a at uconn, for example, Meghan Walker last year struggled to even find the floor this year, she's finding some consistency. You know since maybe since Christmas, it's midway point through her sophomore year. Christa Williams, you know, the top freshman in the country has had some great moments in some moments when when she hasn't been as good as she can be she's a freshman. This is what happens your freshman and sophomore years are the growing moments, and hopefully you're on a team where the seniors and juniors can help get you through. Where they're the ones who can step forward and win the game and the tight moments while you watch them and learn how to do it maybe the following year or the following year and the hard part with Tennessee when you Lou is so much on these young players. They haven't had a chance yet to to really learn because it takes time to learn how to work to the top of your capacity every day and to be consistent and to learn how to win learn all of that. And and so to me, you know, I understand that there's frustration out there. But I think there would be a lot more concern if this is happening next year when when this this class of sophomores is now juniors and should be on kind of getting to to the other side of that struggle. Yeah. Yeah. And with the bulk of their talented sophomore class. I mean, I remember vividly returning back my sophomore year and everyone knew how to play me. You know, what I mean like it was so different. 'cause everybody has so much on you. And they're like, you're like. Wait a minute. I I wanna go left. I nobody's go left. It's so there's that aspect of to that you have to blossom and find new ways, you know, you come into freshman, your new people like, okay, you know, you kind of get away with some things. But then I mean, our coaches are too good. I mean, they're going to start to take away what you like to do. And so that sophomore years huge in terms of gross. I I completely agree. But on this slide, it doesn't help that on Thursday night on our air Tennessee will be taking on Notre Dame. I just want to get your thoughts on Notre Dame. You know, I'm a little concerned about Notre Dame for a few reasons. I have concerns about the point guard spot. Right. Marina may be who started out the year injured has been slow going on the way on her way back. We just saw you. Call the game against Louisville in south bend. You know, Mufid had to put Jackie young at the point guard that ended up being a great decision. Yes, you can make those kind of changes on the fly and have success for the rest of the year Notre Dame did it last year. So should I be concerned about that? Maybe not, but I do have concerns there. But I just feel like Notre Dame is feeling pressure. Like when I watched them play last season. Nobody expected them to do anything. Especially after they got thrashed by Louisville in the ACC season. We were like, okay. Well, they lost these players. They've got injuries. Okay. Forget about it. And Notre Dame kind of use that as fuel right? We're the underdogs. No, one expects us to win. We're still expected to win Muffin. Mcgraw did outstanding coaching job to to get them. Even position to win the national championship undermanned under. -sition all the above. It seems like they're feeling the pressure though, this year, you get everybody back, including the addition of Briana Turner into me. I don't know. I don't know if you see this. When you watch them play. They're just not playing as free. They're playing like they're supposed to win and that can be and you can speak to this Rebecca to me that can sometimes be a bit of a burden. I don't know. But I'm a little concerned about them for those reasons is in my do you have any concerns about Notre Dame right now, they might this making this up? I could do that. Sometimes. I'm not sure I'm sure you know, that that's all valid if you're seeing that I just when I'm watching Notre Dame right now. I'm just like, okay. This is the team that consistently impresses me them both. And I think that you kind loss was really good for them because you know, for McGraw had been harping on their defense. She's still harping on their defense. But I think it probably helped refocus them a little bit. But you know, I it's it's a pretty nice luxury when okay, marina bakery, struggling against Louisville's pressure here. Jackie young, you one of the most efficient players in the country at her position one at you want, you take the reins, and and you know, Notre Dame coach Landers had had an idea, and we did it last night in studio just about how good they are in transition defense and their six in the country in point in fast-break points than most teams get into their fast break into industry. Transition office steals. That's not how Notre Dame. Does it? They are phenomenal grabbing defensive board. Quickly running the other way they sprint out every one of their players. He doesn't get the rebound. So the other four are sprinting out the other and they put an incredible amount of pressure on the defense to sprint back. And then once they figure out how you're going to stop it because they can hit threes and transition they hit alley oops, and transition, and you've got Google who just take it at you and transition. So right now to me, I think they're playing the best consistent offense of basketball in the country. And you know, coach it's interesting when you hear coach McGraw 'cause it's you know, talking about defense getting a little better, but we still have to get better there because they're playing so much of that zone. But offense of -ly, you know, the they just put it on you. And and and it's consistent and a lot of pressure that they're gonna put on you to score a lot of points and you play them. Yeah. And that probably you know, I definitely have. Very I mean, my standards are high when it comes to Notre Dame and Louisville makes games ugly. I've never I have. I have not seen Notre Dame play his ugly offensively as they have against Louisville in a in a long time. And so maybe some of that concern comes from that. But I also when I'm saying, I don't know Notre Dame. I'm not saying I don't think Notre Dame's gonna make the final four I'm saying kin, they win another national championship. And I think if I really boil down what my major concern is they've gotta have marina may brought full till she is a dog. Like, she is the player that to me gives them that swag plays with that carelessness, you know, mistakes don't bother her when she's at her best when she is shooting the ball whale mean she shot at three so well on their way to the national championship last year, which was major for them and also how she handled pressure how she conducted. I don't see that same level of confidence from her in. And I think the team need that is good as Jackie young. Is Jackie young is not the emotional leader that marina may is. And when there are missing that I think it hurts them. I think they'll get there though, you know, one of my favorite quotes last year. It was asked at the semi final games. And we were talking to some of Notre Dame players in a room and marina baby was just talking to how poorly she shot against Yukon. She's like, so I just started track talking some trash some players. She's like speaking I had to get involved from. How did you know? We're teammate see that. They you're absolutely right. She totally gives them their swagger. So I I think it will come. I think it will come, you know, and and and we talked about talked about it before to you and your miss your conference, then especially this time of year this time of year to get through as a player, especially you know, a couple of weeks ago when when you're still not in classes, the only people that you've been around for a month or your teammates. Whether it's on the road or home. There's no students on campus. You kinda getting sick. And one another. You're just ready for the next part of the season to get going. And and I think that's been reflected to and some of the basketball that we've seen, you know, the past couple of weeks, but but I will be stunned if come, you know, ACC tournament time or even this Thursday night, if marina Mary does not have her swagger back, if she's not, you know, finding a way to be involved what whether or not it's making threes, she can give her team energy. And and she will be doing that. By the time the ACC tournament rolled around. Yeah. I gotta sign like Mufid. Never good enough. That's the attitude. So I just quickly other than obviously, Tennessee getting the confidence back from Davis from Jackson. Is there any chance that the lady volts can knock off Notre Dame on Thursday? I don't think they're good enough. I don't think they're good enough right now after losing the amount of games. They've lost in a row that affects your confidence. Even if you're playing at home versus Notre Dame who has to be really confident right now, who's playing really really, well, I think it would be it'll be a huge struggle for Tennessee to do that in order to do it. I think they have their press has to start working again, they've got to create some turnovers. They've gotta figure out a way to slow down. Notre Dame's running game. But just because I've lived it. And I've been there, and I know what it's like when you're on a team when you've lost games. Like this. You need to have supreme confidence to beat a team like Notre Dame. And I would think right now, Tennessee will be I just can't imagine they have that confidence. Just because of how it's gone within the past couple of weeks love it. That's seven o'clock. So but people still watch. Yeah. It's gonna say well, you should. I mean, the game is at Tennessee. That's number one Notre Dame at Tennessee. So leave fans will be in. Their seats seven PM on ESPN our whole final four crews going to be there. Right. You care, Adam Holly, Holly. Yeah. Awesome. All right. So yeah, we're gonna watch that anyway. But no, it should be good basketball. Make sure you tune in and just quickly looking at I was browsing through and you're you're a voter. So you get how hard it is. Right. Like our job as AP voters right now. People need to the respect on it. Because last week. I'd be Doug Feinberg who does all the AP poll stuff. He's awesome. He does more than that. I mean, he was like a women's basketball. He does you know WNBA? He's he's the guy anyway. So you know, he sends us this joking Email for our AP voting week. And he's like, oh, well, good luck. We've had fifty five teams lose this team number twenty two loss twenty three twenty five seventeen twelve seven nine eight. You know? So we were like, okay. But there are so many. There's a lot of movement right now in the rankings. Especially once you get outside of the top ten, but. I want to just quickly. I have to talk about your huskies because people were panicking this past week that they went from tied for number two to number three. It's Notre Dame Baylor Yukon Louisville Oregon's what the top five looks like right now. Are you concerned at all about how you con- has played even some games that they've won. They've had seems like they've had closer games in the American athlete conference at least for a half. They were used to sing. So teams are challenging them for maybe twenty minutes. But I don't know are you liking what you see from the huskies right now. Yeah. I did their game against south Florida. It worth south Florida's three best players were out due to injury. And and you kinda did not look good. You know, coach Auriemma bench to starters five minutes in to the first quarter. You know, I think the first three or four possessions of the game, south, Florida got an offensive rebound. You know, you con- was struggling a bit. And it's we're not used to seeing that, you know, we're used to seeing them be dominant. Carl Adamec whose a a longtime beat writer for Yukon who writes for the journal inquirer up here in Connecticut. I asked him, you know, what was the last time? You con- had this many games that were decided by ten or eleven points or fewer and it's been at this point of the season. And it's been like twenty five years. So it's real, you know, they have a lot more. They've had a lot more close games this year than we're used to sing. But at the same time, you know last year the criticism not from people who. Really, no basketball. But the criticism from you know, some fans was you know, you kind of last lost the last two semi final games on buzzer. Beaters? They don't know how to win close game. What? Okay. So this year, at least they have those close games. And for the most part, they're learning. How to how to win those close games? Is you con as good this year as they've been in the past few years. I don't think so. No, can they still win a national championship? Yeah. I think they can. But you know, what? What's so exciting? I think for us covering the game. Is that for the first time, and as long as I can remember like I look at the people, and I'm going down, you know, number one. Yeah, they can win the whole thing. They can win the whole thing. They can win the whole like I get down to I don't know seven or eight teams that I think can win the national championship this year. And and on the men's side, maybe that wouldn't say a lot, but on the women's side. It does you know in the past, however, many years, it's always been this team and everybody else like when's the last time we got to the final four and didn't have an undefeated team or. Didn't have a team that was an absolute prohibitive favorite to win the national championship. It's really long time. And so this year, it's exciting to me because it's like, okay, you comes down a little bit, but they could still win Baylor. Yeah. They could win the whole thing. Win the whole thing. Like, Oregon Stanford. Yep. Yep. I believe they can win the whole thing. Like, it's just it's it's it's getting there. And and it's been it's been fun. As a result to watch these games. Now, you say that you don't think you con- it as good as they have been the last two years is that talent is that you like what is it that makes you that brings you to that conclusion? Well, they need a lot from a freshman and sophomore Chris Williams is going to have to play well for them. You know, you you trust implicitly, you know, they're juniors and seniors get you know, what you're going to get from Katie was famous in the face, a call your everyday Christopher Dangerfield is going to bring what she brings Meghan. Walker has been a little bit more consistent. I think if Meghan Walker had shot the ball, well and played better, you kind of beat Baylor. I think that the beginning of that game. If she made some of her. Early shots. It would change the tone of it. And then off the bench, you know, last year that has the race Steven's coming enough event that right there made the better team livelier, you know, then they are this year. They they don't have even that six player who comes in and make a real real impact. So they just you know, they're little younger than they've been and even thinner than they've been. And you know, we're seeing seeing some Volna abilities in certain matchups, especially you know, we saw it against Baylor. You know with with the big players, so, but that's okay. And that's gonna be fun. And that's gonna it's gonna make things even more interesting. Yes, it has been a fun race. I'm just looking down the top twenty five right now thinking about some things that stand out to me definitely NC states undefeated teammate, Tina, no despite injuries that should have ravaged them now. Yes. They're scheduled real their schedule ratchet up another notch in the next week or two which would tell us a lot about the wolf pack, but west more has to be leading the coach. Of the year conversation from a national standpoint Marquette is a number ten team this week and Caroline Keith. Or seniors that group finally has figured things out. Right. I mean Elysee blocked in teasha hide him in. We saw flashes of greatness their first three seasons. And they've had a ton of success when it comes to the historical perspective for the golden eagles. But they have just been beating biggies teams by twenty thirty points. So they could be scary team. If they move into the postseason with that kind of confidence. Rutgers is a t that a lot of people are surprised about Vivian Stringer's. Got he she strung together. A group of interesting transfers and new addition, you know, you talk about freshman, the youth and inexperience will there's some new faces for Rutgers that are tearing through the big ten. They're undefeated in league play number fourteen this week in the top twenty five, but the only Cryer statia Kerry Cryer. A is a transfer from Georgia Tech and stationed a Carey is a transfer from Pittsburgh, so new places new faces but having a lot of success for Vivian stringer. The big ten is is crazy the SEC's had some moments. But is there anything or any team where he player right now? Rebecca that stands out to you is a no, you're always just watching the landscape. You know, I think a team that we haven't talked enough about. And maybe it's a west coast thing is Stanford. They're really could they're really good on the offensive end. It would not surprise me. One. Bit is Stanford is in the final four this year. And I know talk a lot about what we're gonna because they're really good and out of the pack twelve but Stanford is team that every time I watch them. They impressed me a close game at Arizona state, and I knew flipping through the channels and in came upon that, you know, near the end of the game and everytime. Arizona state made a play Stanford responded, and they just struck me as a team. All right. This is a group that knows how to win. This is a group that knows how to make big plays. And and they're they're a team that that's that's really interesting to me, you mentioned Marquette, you know, this is the year when that's freshman class came in and all those guys were starting and they were young talented. Well, now, they're seasons in pallets it. And and I thought you tweeted about it, you know, when they brought Mississippi State to the wire, you know, everybody else who's. Just learning about Marquette, you better learn about Marquette 'cause you've been covering in China for the last four years, and and they're interesting team to me and you brought up NC state. Yeah. What's more as a remarkable job is the only undefeated team left right now. And they've got a stretch it starts right around Valentine's Day, and it lasts a week where they have sleep games in particular that are going to be tough. They've got Syracuse Notre Dame and and Louisville kind of in a two week stretch. And we're gonna learn about them. But they also have Clemson coming up in clumps as a team that you know, is so much improved for last year this year. So, you know, it's it's just it's a fun year to kind of pay attention to everything. That's that's been going on. Yes. So so much going over Becca. We are always grateful when you make the time to come on our show fans. Also, if you have not checked out Rebecca has a podcast with her husband, Steve that is fantastic. It is hilarious. Rebecca, just quickly before I let you go. I know it's not WNBA season yet. But is there anything you're thinking about right now as far as the draft or next year or free agency, the or anything on the top of your mind from WNBA standpoint? I think, you know, the top story is is the Maya voice situation in Minnesota is she gonna play this year. You're not gonna play this year. If she does play this year is it gonna be in Minnesota's they're gonna be somewhere else. Like, basically what the heck is going on. I think is is the question we're all interested in because, you know, Lindsay Whalen, retiring that team, you know, we've been talking about it for years continuing to age, you know, I I if my doesn't play it's going to be a very different season for them. Then if she does. So I think that's the biggest story ended w right now. Yeah. I mean. People are scared. I was I was I when that came out I was like what like I just couldn't even focus can get myself together to reconsider to be attacked like I can't believe they are thinking about a tweeden. Everybody's panicking. And I'm like Maya more, especially I think the thing that got me. I think it was a clip, and you may have sent it to me of a new station and they use the word retire. And I was like where is this coming from like that would that would be a travesty that would be devastating a mean that did my more has not done enough for us. Let me just back that up. Right. Like, I mean, come on. She's given us fantastic basketball. She has every right to do whatever she wants to do with the rest of her life. She's won four championships. No one's ever gonna forget her. She's the first one woman of the Jordan brand she's done a lot but still retire. What does your gut say? Rebecca, what do you think we're gonna see my more next season? I don't know. I have no Intel on that. I'll say this. I if if she decides to retire as you said, she's done everything she needs to do as a basketball fan. I would absolutely miss watching her. If she wasn't on the court. She's she's she's one of the finest of the history of the game. So that would be a huge disappointment for us. But God bless her whatever whatever she needs to do my, you know, she's she's going to do my is going to do my madness. That's Rebecca Lobo hate.
