"The Yankees have now lost 11 of their last 13 after three to one defeat to the rays Randy arozarena wasted no time to give Tampa Bay a three zero lead just four batters into the game with a three run Homer off Nestor Cortez junior which would be all the runs Kevin Cass's team would need for its fourth straight win We need to feel good about ourselves It's been a grind a little bit from the all star break and wins And this ballpark against this team they can elevate you a little bit make you feel that much better Cortez settle down after that blow allowing just an infield single through the 7th But the raised pitching against stifle the struggling Yankee offense yielding just four hits Time area New York

And those two aces are scheduled the next week face the Yankees who lost again Tampa Bay's Randy arose arena who killed the yanks two years ago in the playoffs at a three one Homer first inning off Nestor Cortez. It's all the rays got or needed in a three one win as the Yankee bats were again quiet only four hits, even Aaron judge is not hitting one for his last 14. Never want to lose. I never know one in here is happy about it. But, you know, having a little bit of a cushion helps, but that cushion can dwindle quick, so we gotta stay on top of it and, you know, guys are putting the working guys are coming up and they're showing up, they're doing their thing. "Then I can't tell what I'm anthropomorphizing and what is real. And I just realized I have so many more questions about them. So today on the show, I'm going to get some answers about what makes manta rays so magical. And so smart. And what has put them on the endangered species list? I'm Emily kwang, this is shortwave. The daily science podcast from NPR. This message comes from NPR sponsor, northeastern university, turning discoveries into solutions that make our nation healthier, resilient, and more secure. Visit northeastern dot EDU. This message comes from NPR sponsor carvana in the business of driving you happy. When you're shopping for a car, there's nothing sweeter than staying within your budget sweet spot. That's why carvana has no bogus fees. So visit carbona dot com or download the app to shop for a vehicle. All right, of all the cartilaginous fishes, this is a hot take. Sharks get all the glory. I get it. Sharks have teeth, they're cool and big and they have a week on Discovery Channel, but come on, we need to show manta rays some love. People. And you know who's a big fan of them too? Rachel Graham. Wow. Such spectacular species and it's worth noting that their name manta means blanket in Spanish. And that's what they really look like. They look like flying blankets or carpets. Some of us in the manta world also call them magical sea flap flaps. Very scientific. Very scientific because that's what we are. We're all about the science 150%. Rachel's the founder and executive director of mar alliance. A conservation organization based in Belize. She's been working with threatened marine wildlife for a long time. And when I called her up, just like full of manta ray fervor, she totally understood, because she had her own manta ray meet cute. At the flower garden banks, marine sanctuary in the Gulf of Mexico. I had never seen a manta ray. And I just remember the first time I did, I was smitten. Absolutely smitten. They are some of the most graceful creatures you can imagine, and they grow to be over 7 meters in width. So imagine that 23 feet wide. However, the ones that we saw at that first instance in the flower garden banks. Were about 6, maybe 7 feet wide, so two to three meters at most. And the cool thing is, is that what's come out is that this looks like this is potentially a nursery area for these manta rays. And that's one of the reasons why they're so small because they're actually born at about between four and a half, 6 feet, maybe they look like a rolled up carpet when they come out of their mother and they just unfurl and off they flap. A little baby burrito manta ray. That's exactly it. You can't get any cuter than that. You really, really can. And you say they flap away on their own. They do, they have to. There is no parental care. So they really have to be self sustaining from the word go and that is one of the traits of all chondrichthyans or cartilaginous fish that include the sharks the rays escapes and the deep dwelling chimera fish as well. They all have these cartilaginous skeletons. They have internal fertilization. They tend to have very long lives, and really long gestations. But when they're born, they're on their own. So in addition to being very unique doctor Graham, I've also come to realize that manta rays are extremely intelligent. So I wanted to bring up the work of scientists, Silla Ari, who's done research on manta ray brains. And for one of the studies that she and her colleagues did, they took two captive manta rays at Atlantis in The Bahamas, and they placed a mirror in the tank and observed the behavior of these manta rays over an extended period of time. Yes. And they noticed that the manta rays spent more time in front of the mirror than other portions of the tank. Right. And demonstrated some odd behaviors. The manta rays performed these unusual and repetitive movements that they describe in the study as contingency checking where they're basically checking themselves out in the mirror and doing things like blowing bubbles at the mirror and flipping to look at their bellies, which I also do in the mirror I look at my belly, I see how big it's getting from all the treats I'm eating during the pandemic. And this was cool too. Giant manta rays at least have this behavior where when they meet new individuals, their white spots expand and contract, but these two manta rays in front of the mirror didn't display that behavior, which suggested to the scientists that they didn't register the reflection as another manta ray with whom they should be social. That's right. And this suggested there was some kind of like evidence of self awareness, though I talked to doctor Ari and she said, you know, it doesn't prove self awareness. And she wanted to be really clear about that. Absolutely. And what the manta rays were doing was very similar to we will maybe pass by mirror and then kind of take a step back and go, wait, what? And you might have thought that was somebody or you were passing by a glass window and you get confused as to whether that somebody on the inside or that's you. So is it proof of self awareness? Not entirely, however, all indications show that they have an incredibly complex brain, doctor cariou pack is a kind of top brain researcher as well who's looked at cross comparative work with a whole range of different shark and ray species, and the manta ray has a really well foliated or developed brain, which also reflects how incredibly social these animals are as well. And one of the aspects that, you know, when you were asking me about how was my first encounter with manta rays, and I mentioned the flower garden banks, it was there that I actually had one of my most insightful and arresting encounters with manta rays. What happened? Well, it was literally snorkeling next to a manta ray that I had actually just tagged. It then kind of did a loop around to see what was that. Huh, somebody did something in my back there, came around, and then hung with me for 40 minutes. And it was this wonderful, incredible dance and curiosity where it would move ahead, and

A 33-Year Veteran of the FBI Reacts to the Mar-a-Lago Raid

"A new book coming out called the fall of the FBI. How a once great agency became a threat to democracy. The author is Thomas J baker, and he joins us right now to help us unpack what the heck happened to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and he himself has over 33 years of investigative and management experience as an FBI special agent. And he has an incredible Wall Street Journal op-ed, which says whistle starts to blow at the FBI. I have so much to ask him. I'm so glad he's with us right now. Thomas baker, welcome to the program. Charlie, good to be with you. Thank you. And congratulations on the book. So let's just start here. I'll be very plain and blunt. I've lost total and complete faith in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I believe it's become politicized and at that actors are not removed. In fact, some people believe rightfully so and I agree with them. The FBI is actually being used against citizens. Is that a bridge too far as someone who served in the bureau for 33 years? I know it's not a bridge too far. And a lot of people share those sentiments, my take is a little more precise, slightly different than what you just expressed. I think what's happened, the root of what's happened is a change in culture at the bureau that begun began on the director Mueller, bob Mueller. And a lot of these bad actors is the term you just use, have been removed that the bad actors you can name them all in the cave and call me et cetera from before and even more recently with the gymnast case and other, they keep getting fired. They keep getting dismissed. And unfortunately, current director ray and others around him keep pointed to that and say, well, we're getting rid of the bad apples. We got rid of the bad apples. And my contention is they're not looking at the underlying program problems, excuse me, the cultural change that took place beginning under Robert Mueller's leadership.

"I guess but it's just like you know he's got plenty of other media platforms. And i even talked to some of my friends who've been on already who took up the anti harvard position where asian americans as you wanna come on with him and they're like you know it's just a waste of breath. I mean we're not gonna change the person's mind hence i go. Hey i totally get that. So i'd much rather have someone like you on thank you. So you are in dc and you were just telling me as you walked in the door that you've been working for the state department to the degree that you can tell us a little bit about that While i actually live my husband and bought a house actually during the pandemic in one of the maryland suburbs of dc. Montgomery village about twenty some miles from the white house. A little bit north. I moved out there. Well i i got an internship. The state department in two thousand eight working in the office of language services. we are translators and interpreters. My official title is. I'm a translation project manager but i'm a linguist of sorts. I work a lot in languages. Not a lot every single day. Him languages surrounded by languages. We support the white house and we support the secretary of state with translation and interpretation needs and we also support other federal government agencies. So for example. A lot of the work. I do is with the department of defense. I worked a lot with a capital room. Many years just Anybody who works for the federal government that needs translation or interpretation support and a lot of people still confused the terms so to get that straight translation is the written word and interpretation is a spoken word so you see the president with somebody next to him speaking behind more whispering. That's an interpreter whereas you translate a book and the way to keep that straight as y'all call them sign language interpreters. You never calm sign. Language translates true. Yes because interpretation spoken. I worked on the translation side and i do a lotta linguistics stuff. I'll manage a lot of the translations in several languages. I'm able to read a number of languages. What well. I went to school for spanish translation. Liz -ation management at a school in monterey. So that's really what my degree is in. And that's what. My strongest skill level is in. I speak filipino. Bigalow their garlic. And when i was a kid i really really Got into learning korean. Oh really yeah. That's part of my story as well and few years ago at the encouragement of my boss. I started doing arabic. I've been stating that now for a couple of years when i was also a kid. I studied mandarin For about a year or two Romance languages are pretty easy. If you really really speak one romance language deeply in well you can kinda at least. I'm not saying that. I'm doing translation alive and i'm not working translating into french or certainly not into french but i also do a lot of graphics work in other languages so say for example. There's a project that comes in. Adobe al get our translators to translate it into. Let's say arabic. I do the layout. Because i can read the arabic or i'll do the layout and chinese and i'll make sure that the chinese characters look properly laid out on the page justified. Well amazing according to chinese reader would expect same thing with korean. So that's mine boy. Is it true since you studied language. And you're linguists. Is it true that the human brain when we're young is really receptive to language learning and then that part of the brain turns off. Oh my gosh you have no idea how much i wish. I had studied more languages when i was a because that really would have helped now yet. It's the way i'd say it more. It's really difficult to learn. Language is to new languages without having a strong foundation in it or something similar to it. The older you get. It's not impossible but it just takes a lot more work a lot more work with memorization. I noticed when i was in junior high school. I only needed here. Korean word once or twice and was committed to memory for life. now. I have to sit down. I'll forget alameda. Remember it again. I just need to keep on studying. That's been the hardest battle with me Now diving into arabic is memorization of new vocabulary. So now taking private tutoring. Are you listening to babble for me. Because i'm not irregular language student like say for example. I don't need to learn about grammar. I don't need to learn. I can talk forever about subjunctive cases like that i i Worked in grammar a lot. So i need a private tutoring privata. Goes up my speed okay. Now backing up to the state department so two thousand eight that was during the obama administration. Well that was Yes there's a whole back story even before then. That explains why. I went into this new career because i had a completely previous career as what as roman catholic church musician and literature. This is completely different. Yes yes and Just to answer your question. The reason why two thousand eight was also when property was passed And i knew. I needed to make some changes So you weren't married then. No i was not okay. I was working in roman catholic parishes in northern california. I can cannot back up a little bit so i grew up in pretty close to here in glendale california. My mom definitely was very very filipina. Catholic and i grew up very very filipino catholic. I was very active in my parish. really active and so. When i was a senior in high school. I decided okay. I'll apply to some uc's but i'm also going to apply to the roman catholic seminary. And i got in. And i spent four years. Finishing my undergrad in a catholic seminary. But that's kind of where. I came out of the closet to myself. I left the seminary. After my bachelor's degree and i moved up to northern california to pursue graduate degree in liturgy and liturgical music at a jesuit of their santa clara. Oh so you had come out to yourself. But had you come out to the people in the catholic church because for you to pursue this graduate degree literacy. You're still playing to work within a catholic setting so that's an interesting question. Because i knew that number one i no longer believed what the catholic church said about homosexuality and i didn't wanna preach it. That's the main reason why..

"Can find podcast. Our mission continues to be to invite asian american culture makers in culture shapers their shared their stories with us and as always i'm your host. Ken fong welcome to episode number three hundred twenty five my guests. This episode is rave lido. He's filipino american openly gay interpreter at the us state department and as he describes himself a complicated catholic. He contacted me last spring to let me know that he and his husband. Mike are longtime listeners to this podcast and that he would be in southern california in the summer to see his mother and so we made an appointment for us to sit down in my home studio and have a deeply meaningful conversation about how he's learned to resolve the tensions in his life and what has been like to work for the state department under the obama trump and now biden administrations after recording. This returning to dc. Ray became one of my newest patrons at patriotair dot com. And i gotta tell you. His support is tangible. Evidence of how he and mike are so grateful for all my years of pumping out this show. So if you tour grateful for my work each week to bring you into a conversation with fascinating asian americans. I hope you'll follow his example and become a patron to thank so much are kenmore. Washing machine started making loud. Clunky sounds during the spin cycle about a week ago. We bought it in the matching dryer over. Thirty years ago from sears. When sears was still kind of a viable store so this being several decades ago this machine has no digital display or circuit boards inside. It's very mechanical very analog. I will have to say that the silkscreen labels on the front of the washer are now almost invisible to the eye. So it's involved. A lot of memorization in guesswork at times to put it in the right cycle so it was time i did some online research and decided to get a fangled washer and dryer pair mating greer by the lg company so headed out to best buy to the pacific sales department and was delighted to discover that this being less than a week after labor day it was still on sale so we made the decision to pull the trigger. And we're delighted to know that delivery and installation would be in just two days. How cool is that the guy roll up and he looks behind our current drier and says this is going to be problem because you have a half inch shutoff valve for your gas line and this comes with a five eight inch hose but no problem just call a plumber and once you get this switch to a five eighths shut off. Then we'll be back really now. I went into this back and forth with this guy. It's like well. Why doesn't this by sell a half inch hose and needs like i don't know is the only hose that they sell. I said well. What if i go to home depot right now and by half chose and he's like we're not allowed to use any hose except the ones that's provided by best buy in on and on and on and it was obvious to me that he and his crew weren't going to be able to install this until i get. That showed up failed switch so i opened up my yelp app. I put out this request to get some feedback from local plumbers and One of the plumbers. Who responded said that he could be there within the hour. So when this plumbers shows up obviously he's an immigrant that's fine but we're having some issues with clear communication. He looks at my line and he looks at the hose that best buy supply and basically says this the wrong host. I mean when it means wrong notes. Wild seed says here is a three quarter inch on the label on the hose even though the packet says five aids and getting so confused. I'm like why would best buy. Who does sells these all the time. Why would they still be a. That's actually the wrong sites he goes. I don't know but doing this job. I'm going to have to buy you not only the right valve but i'm gonna have to buy hose and i said well. How much is this gonna cost me. He said like two hundred fifty bucks. And i bought. I go two hundred fifty bucks. Are you kidding me. Why would this cost so much. You look you know. I to take the cardboard box offer new dryer and i had to. You know it's like when not inside in my head. I'm thinking two thoughts one is. I'm not one hundred percent comfortable using this guy. i mean. first of all. He shows up an unmarked white van. I don't see he nomenclature advertising his plumbing business. I'm just wondering if he's trying to overcharge me and i know sometimes but then my second thought is well if i say okay you know what. I'm just going to get a different plummer to come over and do this. I'm pretty sure he's gonna charge me for the visit okay. I'm doing a little simple math in my head and i'm thinking you know. By the time. I pay him for the visit and bring some other plumber out here by him for that visit and the installation is probably cost me more while once. He actually tried to attach the hose that best buy supply to the back of our new dryer. He says oh well it does. Attach so i'll have to do is get the new valve. And it's joe i mean it's literally not the gas unscrew the old one but on the new right and i said okay so since you're not going to have to buy the hose now which is gonna cost me. I don't think he was expecting me to ask that but he comes back with. Okay one hundred fifty bucks get now. I still have my doubts. But you know i'm doing that calculus of well if i don't use them still paying for the visit so i said okay. Let's do this so he left our house. He went to the plumbing supply house wherever that is to buy the requisite shutoff valve and then you know he comes back and he says well now we need to shut off the gas. Where's your gas meter. Hang these things. I don't typically pay attention to. But i said i'm sure it's under that little concrete cover up by the street. I'm staying there as he takes it off and he says by law..

"If you live at a higher altitude let's say denver or kito ecuador you'll have more radiation exposure than someone who lives at sea level likewise flying in airplanes will increase your radiation exposure due to cosmic rays. Your level of exposure will primarily. Depend on how much you fly. And at what altitude you fly for the most part cosmic rays pose. No real health read all life. Forms throughout the history of life have been exposed to cosmic rays and we evolved for our dna repair low level radiation damage. One thing that can't be damaged by cosmic. Rays is computers. If a particle hits the right part of a processor or memory chip it can flip a bit. Causing an error in two thousand and three there was an election in belgium that was conducted electronically the results were more than the number of votes cast in an audit checking. The paper ballots also cast found that the air perfectly corresponded to a single bit in a single computer which could only have been caused by stray cosmic ray particle this is why computers on spacecraft have to have so much redundancy the space shuttle's head to have triple redundancy for exactly this reason the issue of cosmic rays is also a huge consideration for long term spaceflight the only time humans have ever been outside of earth's magnetic field was during the apollo missions and that was only briefly the issue of cosmic rays is a considerable one that needs to be considered for any mission to mars. One proposal would be to surrounded ship with water. Which would stop most of the cosmic rays. The problem is that water is heavy and either we would need to get it from the moon or we need to get it from earth. There's one thing one big thing. I haven't yet mentioned. Where do cosmic rays come from. Sure they come from space but where in space. Exactly the truth is no one really knows. You can't just detect. The direction of particle is coming from. Because they're so easily influenced by magnetic or gravitational fields not just the gravity and magnetism of earth but also that of the sun or even possibly the galactic centre the particles which are flying around space may come from other stars the center of our galaxy or even other galaxies wants a particle is jettisoned. You can basically travel forever until it runs into something. The smallest change in it's trajectory will render its origin impossible to determine. They're actually many theories about where they come from. But it's very difficult to actually prove anything. Cosmic rays are all around us all the time and always have been. There really isn't anything you can do about them. And so long as you remain on earth it also really. Isn't anything to worry about. Whoever if you're traveling in interplanetary space it probably is something you might want to consider. The associated producers have everything everywhere daily. Are peter bennett. "Of my eye. I saw him but unlike the last time he made nobody gesture towards me he definitely knew. It was me now because before i wondered. Oh maybe he doesn't know what. I look like with my mask. Which is you know the great thing about these miss. However i have a very distinct mask i have one. I wear almost all the time. Almost looks like fish scales but rainbow fish skills which now i'm realizing his mistake. Exempt too easily identifiable. He can't rob a bank but this mass. It's no good 'cause you wear but everyone's gonna know have yet to see somebody else with this mass. Anyway he definitely knew me 'cause now he for sure knows what. I look like with this mask and i went. My body tensed up. chris. I thought naturally oh shit here he comes. I'm going to have to say. And then he didn't his body did not receive me. You know when you someone's in a room and you enter the room and their body kind of turns towards you. You get the sense that they sent that you were there. I got nothing. And i was expecting something. Maybe more of the same. Maybe another shot at bat with ray and i got nothing and eat burns me inside. It was in embarrassment and it was a reminder of my previous failure that he wanted absolutely nothing to do with me even though i was in his store buying leafy greens. That really like how horrible was my last interruption. I punch him in the face steal anything. How bad was it. And what were you expecting out of me. Maybe you looked at my stuff online ones and you thought i would do a little routine and you disappointed. I have no idea. But i just felt this birding. I don't know how to explain it like if you've ever taken niacin they kind of puts this this it it Increases your blood flow. Knee almost get. Read all of your body. And that's that's how i felt. It grew it grew and it was almost like i had a heat lamp on me and i was so obsessed with this failure. I just felt pressure on meals. Eating fucked it up. You totally fucked it up. Last time you'll be ashamed of now your day off to wallow in this and you're so stupid you went right back to the scene of the crime will your bungle the social interaction. What is wrong with you. I just aw. I felt it and felt like i was being made fun of in grade school. Like that's the only any also bothers me that that feeling show many years later decades later doesn't leave you as a person like that that can still exist in its purest form is really really terrifying to me and i kept my head down. I'm not gonna lie. Guy can hide from the bersin. He's already seen me. He's chosen not to have anything to do with. I could just give me a wave. I mean i don't know what else what we would have talked about. I have no idea but to acknowledge me would have been the correct thing to do to save me from the shame. Even if he was. I wish i can't imagine him being so ashamed. Because his his store he rules the roost here. He can do whatever he wants. He makes the snap decisions. He determines what things go on sale even though nothing goes on sale. He's the person who looks at them if he wants to put salad on sale he could put sal on sale. It is his active decision not to kazoo this place so if you want us to talk to me he absolutely have talked to me but he really really actively ignored and i was just fill. I just this heat. I don't know how to explain it. This internal heat. It's almost like a stomach thing. And i just i got my stuff and i was like. Let's get out of him. And then you carry that shame and you feel like it's written on your face so like when i went to go check out just like this woman must now she must be able to see my face. Meanwhile she was like sixteen years old. And i'm sure did not give a shit about didn't even notice anything like who's this person wearing up van johnson tank top which is sure a story for another day. She didn't care but i cared. I was surrounded by failure. And i got in the car and i'm just burning up inside and i just failures all again. I bailed i totally totally failed. And then john on me that i was obsessing over a failure at something that was first of all not a winner. Lose situation in the sense that it could go either way. It's not like at this baseball. I didn't hit the baseball i lost. There's a multitude of outcomes was not my desired outcome. So i feel. I failed at it however it was not something that i was even that interested in quote unquote winning. What do i care this. Social competition grams game things. I didn't give a shit. 'cause i just would have had to never come back. Of course too stupid not to. But that's a story for another day. It wasn't i don't care about winning. I only care about not losing. And i thought well that is ferry sad this so there's no way to even enjoy myself. You know because if i lose then i'm upset but i don't really care about winning this no joy in the winning this just less disappointment if i didn't lose and i was like. Wow this is a real like not only is the glass half empty but it seems like that top. Half of the water has been poured over my head. And i'm just like you know what i'm wet i'm ashamed. I'm a failure. And i would like you to not do that again. Please don't continue to pour water on my head. So this is what i walked around with and.

Al gore has has emphatically stated. He will not root for the phoenix. Did not root for the. Although although i will say i will say dario saric a great player. One that i really appreciate you know. That's what i'm truly fired up about because the arena will be something you can say all right now. Let's go. That's where the team that's what the nba was like dude great keyarena and and there's new arena. I mean for hockey. You know it's it. Looks like it's going to be dope and what i love. Is that the ticket soda very quick. Of course i also love that. I've always been a casual hockey fan right and the games i've watched a on. Tv like the last time. I remember that was truly amazing. Was the usa. Canada olympic final was maybe five years ago. two thousand fourteen. Not i remember that being just sat crosby scored the final believable. It's like the greatest. It was right okay because again being a casual like this feels pretty A alexis great first of all the hockey is the most fun thing to watch live. Four live kid out replaced on mazing. I highly recommend trying to get a seat behind the goal. So you can watch all the place develop any wanted high up to watch all the plays developing. It's just super cool to kind of watch defensive. Get sad and offensive. Start out of their own zone and it is like a beautiful and violent sport all in one. It's like have you fast always itself so graceful skating and then just elbows to the dick like elway. That's yeah it's sticks to dig it. Yeah i was the dixie dick. Where's the range of like. Where is there. You can't do that but like the what other work today. What are the sports do. They just lie to start fighting like let them fight around will break it out. When do refs are required. Required to intervene. I think when they get to the ground and they feel like parental approach like imagine. You're adopted sister. Through the through the heightened mom until both you had fought so hard that you were like hiding hard on the ground and interrupts like okay all right this is the mentality. Take a parental mentality a blade to the neck if a players like i'm gonna do i'm gonna do a break the i never have..

"Aligns, it causes pressure on exiting nerve roots that go to all the different organs in your body, including the heart and lungs and the blood vessels. So in short house chiropractic affect the heart and blood vessels, the nerves control everything. So if there's misalignment in the neck it can affect the heart. If there's misalignment in the upper back it can affect the heart and lungs because the nerves exit that go right to those Oregon's so I've had just be quick. Because I know we have a full panel of people here today. So. I want to take up all the time. But really quickly. I have a patient who came in who had heart palpitation, she ran to the urgent care because she was having problems with her heart, and she did they did a ton of tests on her and right away. Put her on a blood pressure medications to lower her meds. Lower her blood pressure, and she came in, and we x Rayed her found misalignment internet and adjusted the very top bone in the neck is the atlas, and it's known they've done studies on adjusting, the atlas realigning that bone takes pressure off the nerves again in affects the flow to the heart, and it lowers blood pressure by a think the average was around seventeen systolic and ten diastolic that show huge numbers. No, no drugs can do that much. So just the atlas adjustment lower blood pressure. We just at her and she checked your blood pressure every day that week, and it was within normal range the whole week second case. Now, the guy came in a police officer, and he came in with chest pain, he had gone to the emergency room as well. They did the battery of tests on him. He walked out with the same chest pain that he he went into the are with and spent like three hours there came in. We x Rayed him as well found misalignments in his upper back in his spine adjusted him, boom pain was gone. Here's a sec. Are you kidding me? I just spent three. Hours over there. And they thought maybe it was a heart issue, and it wasn't. It was his misalignment in his upper back in his spine and ribs can be affected there too. So there's just two cases right there of of problems with heart palpitations or even problems with chest pain that were directly related to the chiropractic adjustment. You bring up a valid point. That's what the show is all about alternative medicine. But folks, if you've got a heart problem, if you've got palpitations you've got stressed go. See your doctor first and then look at the alternatives, y you always need a second opinion. Go the traditional go to the nontraditional. And I think you'll find a well rounded view of recovery and help for your body. Let's go to Kelly Kelly. I know the heart has a lot to do with fitness like me, I'm overweight. But I know if I lose rate, I can get healthier. So let's talk about this. When it.

"Five five, and we are talking with Jane from Pawtucket. About her low T S H levels, which are a lot of people get confused when they hear. The doctor says the thyroid is low. And. TSA jr. Often can be because you're producing too much thyroid hormone. It's if the TSA overproducing thyroid hormone than your T S H, which is your thyroid stimulating hormone by the Patou itary gland. Causes the you're not producing. It says it shuts it off. But sometimes it can also be caused from a problem with the. So vibrate might be perfectly healthy. Yeah. And it's the Petur Terry Glenn that has a problem. Sometimes it's also certain medications that can cause a low T S H as the doctor giving you any indication of any of this as to what specifically is going on. No, no. He wants me to go to. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Which is a good idea. You know, what you're treating because if you treat the wrong thing, if you're treating the thyroid the thyroid isn't the problem now, you're gonna mess up the thyroid. With the with the endocrinologist is going to do is do a full thyroid panel on you. So they're gonna look at the TSA h which you've already had tested. They're going to look at your teeth three four and a thyroid antibody, right because you may have an autoimmune thyroid issue going on and with all those numbers. Mich- mind to tell you what to do you're gonna come back and ask Dr Jansen in the wellness team. What you should do at that point. Don't come in one of the things that keep in mind, the Kenneth that is particularly steroids. Okay. So prednisone and things like that. Okay. But once you get the information, but you don't want to start treating it. Because again, you gotta be treating the right thing. Right. Okay. Well, I'll be in sometime in February. All right. Good. This is again, it was really great that you call because this is again where people get into trouble because somebody a friend will say, a I'm taking this you supplement that helps to bring the I had the same problem with the thyroid. Here's what you get a low thyroid. And this is what you take. But again could be causing a problem that you may over stimulate that Thor thyroid and actually damage it by taking supplementation. That's not appropriate. Let's go to line one Linda from Burlington, Massachusetts island. Hi there. Good morning. Thanks for taking my call. I'm wondering if there's anything that can help heal at bones for they had a fall just below my knee cap. Which is. And I don't know if there's anything you can do for that. Or how long has it been there? How long? Six to eight weeks that sounds like an awful. Short amount of time to develop a bone spur in a weird place. Yeah. If it is a bone spur, then you wanna look at magnesium and vitamin B fix. Okay. In writing six, okay and x-rayed Rayed. Okay. That's what that was what the result twice. Bone spur. Did you see in orthopedics, Dr? No. I just went to my rate. You wanna see you north of PD doctor? Okay. Okay. Because again want to make sure you're treating the right thing. Sometimes they can do ultrasound treatments to break up the bone spur. Oh, okay. Okay. Topically you could use DMS O D so cream which is an anti inflammatory. So it's going to bring down some of the inflammation. But it's also solvent that breaks up garbage tissue. Okay. D m s you want the cream so that doesn't irritate us again cream. Okay. Okay. I will give it a try. Thank you so much. Do you? Welcome. Never hurts to get a second opinion. And particularly a second opinion from somebody who again that's their expertise. They see day in day out is being knees all day long because you know, just in case it might be something else. Again, don't wanna treat the wrong thing. Let's go to line to Dolores from Warwick Rhode Island ours hygiene, it's a pleasure to speak with you. Thank you, gene. Surgery years ago, and I don't walk as well as I wanted to. I will be seeing orthopedic doctrine a few weeks. I was listening to what you were saying in the voice when I get off from the country the team I have to hold onto the table and kind of limping do you feel weak? Do you feel weak? No, I'm eighteen. Oh achey. Okay. Yeah. You know, once they get there are a number of supplements that we can talk about. But one thing you might want to do is look at a class like Guinea Taichi class or a yoga class, or I use are you seeing a physical therapist. I was I'm no longer but to the why this week for exercise. Yeah. Because it may be that also the, ligaments muscles and tendons in that area need a little assistance. And so, but you could always again, try the CD the plus CBD oil from CV sciences. He'd be deep. Good. Don, or I would take it internally because topically for the hip it's not going to really penetrate enough, and it's going to take a little while it's not a quick fix. You're going to look at about three or four weeks. Start with like ten milligrams between ten and fifteen milligrams a day. CBD the plus CBD by CV sciences. Okay. Take it once a day once a day. Okay. Thank you so much. You're welcome. And let's go to line three Maureen from New Jersey. Hi, maureen. Hi, how are you today? Very good. How can we help you? You may not find if you're sensitive to it or I take taking any of the blood thinners. No, no. That's interesting. If if fish oil is thinning your blood to that extent. I don't know that you're gonna find a particular one that doesn't you might wanna try either evening primrose oil or flaxseed oil and see if it does the same thing some people don't tolerate fish oils. But the evening primrose is and the flags are plant based. Okay. So I know there's different types of Amiga. And so the one I was taking was super omega three. So does that have anything to do with it? Because someone said, well, maybe you need to take the kind that's different than that six or nine or something like that. No, I I would I would just try going with the plant based oil and see see how you do with that. You just might be sensitive to the to the fish aspect of it. Okay. Okay. Start with a low dose and gradually work up. Don't go with the highest those recommended on the bottle. Okay. Low dose evening, primrose or flax oil. Yes. Okay. And let us know. The only thing you can do to is. You can take homeopathic aren't. Or grape seed extract grapeseed helps to strengthen the capillaries. Let's not grapefruit seed, that's grape seed extract. We use them one by natural factors. Okay. All right. All right. Thank you very much. You're welcome. That's interesting though. That's not a typical reaction. I wonder if there's other things like she could be taken vitamin C or ginger or any other things I realize blood thinners thinning her blood. Yeah. Can this speak in one more now? "In fact, x-rays are no more human invention than visible light is than though what makes x Ray special is that while we've long had the ability to produce copious amounts of visible light. It's only since around the beginning of the twentieth century a little bit before the beginning of. The twentieth century that we understood how to produce in control x-rays. And it's this power the power of the x Ray machine that we're looking at today, and that's one of the wonderful things about this episode is that this is a case where we can point to one individual one scientist, one visist, and and Adelphi dare key role in this turning point in history. Yeah, I think a lot of inventions are kinda murkier, right? Like a lot of things that we think of as inventions are actually just like slight modifications of something that came before this is a case where there really was a tremendous sudden breakthrough and it had far reaching effects all over the world, it just try to imagine the time before x-rays before say x-rays in a diagnostic medical context, we now know x-rays are useful for a lot more than just medicine. But just think about going to the doctor, and maybe having something wrong inside you at a time when there were no xrays. Yeah. This reminds me of the old saying about how book is man's best friend outside of a dog. Oh was that. Because inside of a dog. It's too dark to see. But it is dark inside the body. And it was it was a truly darken in many other ways before the X Ray. Because before x-rays the best way to peer inside the living body. It was to look through a natural aperture using what you would call the old knife scope. Yeah, basically. Yeah. If you if you didn't have a natural aperture to look into you would have to make one you'd have to cut one. And it's I think it was really difficult to overstate the importance of this bit of medical technology. The ability to see how bones and tissues are aligned to see what might be wrong with him. What's broken? How are they healing? But to use a very basic example that comes up a lot discussing the x Ray. And the advent of x Ray technology is you have an individual who is shot with a with a by a gun a bullet enters their body now sometimes the bullet exits the body but other times it does not how do you find the bullet? Well today, we can x Ray somebody find the foreign Matt matter in Honan wherever you need to remove it from. But prior to this one might have to do a bit of searching, and sometimes the bullet couldn't be found at all which can have dire results in eighteen eighty one. For instance, US president James Garfield was shot and subsequently died in large part because they could not find the bullet. That story is actually weird and worth reading about in depth. You ever get a chance to the the assassin was guy named Charles Julius Gaito who he was this dude who thought that he had helped James Garfield, get elected. And so he thought that God was telling him that he had been like a special appointment coming to him. Like he deserved a console ship or something and he ended up shooting James Garfield. But it's often been said that Garfield death was not caused directly by the assassin's bullet. But by the failures of medicine at the time because he didn't die until eleven weeks after he was shot. A not only could the doctors not find the bullet inside him. They had to keep digging around looking for it with like the unsterile. Sized equipment and dirty hands of the time probably leading to the infections of the wound which ended up killing him. Now. I don't I don't want to imply that the X Ray, of course, is our only way of understanding what's going on inside the body or diagnosing illnesses, but it is tremendously important. And as one of the reasons that x rays are taken so often that is why I venture to say everyone listening to this podcast has received an x Ray in their life. I'm sure you've received multiple x-rays. I would be I would be shocked. If there was anyone out there who has never received an x Ray, and you should be thankful that x rays are so much safer today than they were when they were first invented..
