"We're live in Nashville as dusk is falling and the SEC basketball tournament about to begin. We have some we'll have a preview of tonight's action and the rest of the week. In just a minute, people are making their way inside at the fanfare and we are inside the arena where the crowds slowly forming for tonight's first rounds games. Let's get back to the calls at 855-242-7285 and Sam is up next in Maryland. The hello Sam. Hey, how you doing tonight, Paul? We're doing great. Thank you for calling. Great, great. Hey, oh miss grad class of 18, the crisp beard awaken a sleeping giant and opt for they get great facilities, a brand new arena. I don't know, I think you and I might be in the final four here in a couple of years. What do you think, Paul? Sam, I think they'll naturally take a hit from critics, but ultimately he's one of the best coaches in the country. And when Texas hired him, it was considered a major coup. He, he's a great recruiter, he's a great coach, and I think you're right. On this basketball has been dormant for a while. It's gone through a really sloppy period. That's sad because the school spends so much money and so much effort in getting that new arena. It should be making a tremendous impact and quite frankly the program has regressed. Yep, well hopefully they can get everything finalized. It looks like cape Carter's got it going in the right direction, so we're excited. Well, I mean, I mean, Keith Carter is one of the few basketball ADs. What I mean by that is obvious. He didn't come from either the administrative wing or the other, the football side of it. I mean, he played basketball there. I mean, ray Tanner, of course, is a baseball coach. So he understands the game. Not that other coach, not another AD's dome, but I think, you know, I trust him in the administration there. They're smart people. They know what type of PR hits they'll take, but I don't think at this point they are going to let that bother them. I mean, we're logging to the process. Kermit Davis has been gone ten days. They knew weeks ago. So I think they've been after Chris beard from the beginning. Yep, look at the worksite if he could take my call for a hot party. Thank you very much. Robert is in Kentucky and you're on the air. Hey Robert. Hey, Paul. Thanks for taking my call. Thank you. Wouldn't you show it every day? But today appreciate the information. I love the interview with coach stacked out. I was in the regional final last night. Showed up and we know why it was recruiting and but I really like the guy and I hope that this will be on and gives him plenty of time because he says it's just that he's got his team they come up for a big Kentucky. I'm a president, but I'm also curious to have the business plan. For some testing. Gina Robert, he has had a very difficult time. And thank you for the call. I mean, there was a time when I'm not sure we were sure he would be here. But he is, he is really endured. And this is this has been a tremendous turnaround. He's highly respected as a petition of a student of the game. I have his resume speaks for itself, but I think he's won a lot of people over with his turnaround and it's incredibly impressive and I really got a kick out of seeing him about an hour ago. George is up next in Tennessee. Hello, George. Hello. Hi there. First time. Well, thank you. Great job. Thank you. It won't make a better difference. But why is ever announcer against Tennessee? I don't care who you're playing. They're against Tennessee. And I can't understand that. Can you tell me why? You do a great job. I don't mean to, thank you. You're going to have to tell me what they've said about Tennessee that's so bad. But I don't know. By the way, that's the one thing I love about this show and you could get named the broadcaster. And you get 6 different fan bases and they all think he's out to get their team. I'm not sure I can. I do understand it is fandom and we all think our team is getting the short shrift. We're continuing with your phone calls here. Let me just make sure that we have the latest gift the latest list and it's Renee next in Fayetteville. Hey Rene. Hey, Paul. I just have a little background in sports broadcasting, a million years ago. I was at U.S. shortly after coach Donovan Lapierre. And I remember doing sports talk and having to explain to SEC fans or Florida fans. Of college basketball. And it just seems like, do you think, before you decide to retire or, you know, do whatever you want to do after this part of your life? Do you think that SEC sands will finally learn how to grasp sport and not call about football, like while you're at the SEC or I mean, I know it's the nature of the beat. Football, football, but there's so many talented teams in the SEC now, you know, whether it be basketball, baseball or even some of the women's sports that just kind of cracks me up.

They've all everything's been good. I've i've been very fortunate. I've got You know obviously. I belong resume because i'm old but I bet a lot of good experiences. I enjoyed myself at santa monica high school. Life enjoyed myself Wherever i've been that's been one of the only made sure that i was responsible for that. And and So i i made that choice. That i was going to get the most out of the moment. What was it like coaching with skin. Berman your with skipper. With with team was saying and Was there anything you learned from skin that we were together for two years. That was Ninety five and ninety six. We have a national team tour ninety five because that was one of the things that was important. Skip to out our team together for two years but skip is tremendous matter of fact. Interestingly enough i left sacramento city college. I took a leave of absence when skip left to go to lsu. And i became ron fraser's assistant and skipping most take me up for that one and we've been very very close friends For almost fifty years and I matter of fact. I just talked to skip you just got out of. The hospital is at little infection. He's doing well. And and i learned a lot of things from skipping win. Wait a great staff. Ron polk was on that staff and rich all day who unfortunately just passed away. And ray tanner dave snow. it was. It was unbelievable group of coaches. We learned a lot from one another. What are what are some Coaches that that actually. You have really shaped you early on in your coaching career. That have helped you become the coach of you have become. I know you said you have a wide range. But was there like any certain mentoring that or any models that you kinda followed after that kind. Lead you to where you are well. I was eight years old. And i and that that was when little lake was just starting and they re eight year old were little league in my little league. Coach was a guy named murray. Burke it just come back from korea and his son was on our team and and and i was on his team and he had an unbelievable passion for the game. And i think that early on you know you come imprint. You know kinda like kills ducks walking around and they see that mama duck and they fall and so i followed him around. He was really impactful on me. Developing a real appreciation and love and competitiveness. Even with little kids is really competitive. Time where we had As a lowly group you didn't change teams from your. You are on the same team every year so it was very impactful early on and then My college coach rod Art rifle at ucla. But but at that time in southern california there were tremendous baseball programs. Probably the best. It's ever been in the history of college baseball and that was Raw data at usc. And i spent a lot of time watching raw data on after i graduated. I spent a lot of time. Talking to him and wally kincaid at serena's college and john herbal lakewood and later l. a. state and and In in the time that i was playing at ucla through high school we always used to play on scout lake team on the weekends if we didn't have a football meeting or football game or something in the scouts dole's at those times were older in and they would sit around after the game and talk about baseball A lot of flack scouts. Talk about the negro leagues. And i was always right there. And so i think that was very helpful to me to be in southern california that.

So, boy, ah lot to get to today. That is the number one thing on the list. So and I think everybody's probably been glued to their television sets is I've been watching social media. Everybody's got an opinion on it. But So what's trending on Twitter Lady Gaga? No down skirt. 22 year old Amanda Gorman. What a poet. So Yeah, Very nice. I'm happy that you joined us today. Holder took the day off. I thought you might tell your dad I know. I know. Today would be a day She really lift my spirits that wanted to share that with, you know holders Hey, wanted to have the whole day off to celebrate today. So, uh, But hold It did work yesterday, right? Yes. And you were back yesterday. You have Alex would on yesterday. I saw we did we did have that was what, After all good. I did get wood and he's impressive guy. He she sounds like a leader in the clubhouse type. He's very forthcoming. He explained exactly why Hey, came to the Giants and how excited he was to be with Gabe Kapler and four Farhaan. Obviously, that the fact that last year the Hay was he was talking to the Giants but wanted to give it one more shot to get a ring. Hey, didn't have any issue going doctors to giants, But he's not an original Dodgers drafted by Atlantis from the South, so he and I never have an issue with that, you know? Look, you got a supportive family. Whatever you know, I'd like to take a few other guys off their team if they would oblige. That's not gonna happen. But you know what we talked about Alex. What? I thought he would fit with Farhaan Rich Hills. A guy we also thought because the Farhaan Dodger Connection and with the aces Well, So who? You know, I think maybe one more Left hander would be nice. But boy, the I think the Buffalo Blue Jays so the Toronto Blue Jays I don't even know where they're situated right now. But man, did they go all out on Houston Astros outfielders and I wanted George Bradley knew the Giants would not do that, or George Springer. I should save it. Michael Brantly in a in a different way, John is such a line. The line hit her with the But they were the Astro big sluggers there, right handed power all too vague. Korea Springer! Team shift on those guys because they know you know what side they're gonna hit it on the ground where they're gonna hit it in the air because they're basically pull hitters and spring is a tremendous player, but he's just out of the price range to get, you know, six years 1 50 in this market. But Bradley is the one guy in their lineup. You really could not shift. You had to play lying the line. He's just such a great hitter, so they got him. Both. The Blue Jays are all in there is no doubt what a splash they've had The last couple of man and then you add, obviously valid. Junior video. Bichette. Those guys, Kirby Yates they signed is a closed everything. Yeah, I don't love the rotation. I mean, right? You was good. Nate Pearson Stripling. Robby Ray Tanner. Roark. That's the rotation right now. I mean, Would be shocked if he added another starter, maybe via trade. But as far as their everyday lineup is concerned, they're gonna mash that's crazy. Yeah, so Jay's white socks American League Championship Series from the Yankees out Well, the voice accident a nice officers, not only for sure getting Lance land getting the Aussie from the A's Liam Hendriks in Ha Tony uses a Short reliever like that, and we'll see if the Blue Jays have enough, but Yeah, the Yankees. You're pretty good, so decent. All right. We're gonna do a lot of things that happened. I'd love to get your opinion on. Obviously the words were gonna do that. They're back at it tonight against the Spurs, but they beat the Lakers won again to that divisional weekend. We haven't gotten your opinion. Obviously, we get into those Type of things as well, By the way. One thing you did yesterday, too is and I don't even think you realize this. Maybe you did. Remember listening to the catch game? And it was Joe Buck. And I think was Hank Stram. I was on that call on CBS radio. Of course, Colley did it on TV. But so anyway, I had never heard. I mean, you know, going back to that was the 2000 and one season it was doing during the 19th 2000 and two Jon Gruden's last game..

University of Florida cancels football team activities amid 19 new coronavirus cases
"Ross Bjork. Two Am athletic director putting out a statement now saying we've been in touch with officials. At Florida and also reviewed. The available data from the contact tracing system deployed by the SEC. At this point there is been no impact within our program, but we will continue our regular testing regiment this week. And stay diligent. With all of our safety protocols. So that is a fairly similar statement to what Ray Tanner put out yesterday in terms of possible inflection or. Infection I should say on the previous Game Notre Dame had that issue a couple of weeks ago and That's that's the only time we've seen now we're we're a team played last week ended up causing as well. Back to the phones at eight, five, five, two, four, two, seven. Two eight five and Paul was up next in Arkansas Paul. Thanks good afternoon. Hey Paul With my situation what I'm with what I have done a lot of research on this. covid nineteen and when the government I was. Testing all these vaccines they've found that the vaccine. That was used for malaria had a a a very good impact on covid nineteen. The ingredient was drowsy. Clark. And based on some of the studies. it was saving like fifty percent of people's lives it was taken. As Preventative You know as a preventive. Medication instead of waiting until you got the virus to take it. I have a very. Close or good medical A. Person that I've talked to about this and they said most doctors that have. are are very positive about this ingredient And they have patients that they've recommended. You know taking it There are some patients have some kind of Rimma Tori disease it take it all the time that they don't get a covid nineteen I don't understand why the government is trying to hide this. I mean if it allows I don't know but but but I do know that I think four drug companies at least in this country or many more around the world are pretty deep into. The the vaccine. So I I would. Dare. Say What you said I've heard before but it may very well be a moot point right now. Well. All I'm saying is if it's you know it's going to say it's SORTA and they start they get with a doctor that you know has you know patients where he's distributed this out I mean if it would help that program, you know to the point where you know by the time. I think issue there I'm certainly not talking about my expertise, which is pretty miniscule almost everything but. The there's no way. A doctor is going to administer this to a football team. Well maybe not but all I'm saying is that. You know this particular ingredient. For the malaria virus did test of you know pretty good against Kobe nineteen and my point is You know I'm just frustrated we're in this situation with. and I it may be. Hey. Here's what I think is the good news that we are pretty close At least we're told we're pretty close to a A vaccine. So I I I. Don't I don't think anything's going to change that Let's hope it's. Like today, Jonathan is in Kansas you're on the Air Hello Jonathan good afternoon. I'm actually Tampa, Florida. Good have you on. Sir. I'm I'm in Tampa Florida, I I I graduated from the University of Florida in two thousand, sixteen I just want to quickly touch up on touch touch up on a few things. Dan Molin I know he has got a lot of backlash for saying you went to the stadium, but I also remember coach Free Coast Frost got a lot of backlash when he said he went to play and now he's playing. College Football: South Carolina Is A Ranked Team?
"Ben Ben Bryner joining us. Thanks for the time always great to have you on. We start with the the general question. How is life in Colombia covering the South Carolina gamecocks offered him well. You've got a situation relation readers and fans. They're not too happy. players also not too happy about how things are going and obviously will muschamp from his comments. Yesterday also also not real happy about how things have gone okay. We've established The happy meter is pretty low. I think muschamp said it best. When asked about this weekend being a must win I believe he said they're almost win? but how important is this one. I mean this one is maybe their last chance at one of those mid tier kind of wins because you look at the rest of the scheduled win the really winnable games come down to your vanderbilt your Tennessee your APP state which is probably going to be harder than most people think but it's still a non power five team and if they don't win this one there the chances of a four win season go up pretty dramatically and feels like almost a gap of a four or five win. Season emotionally is is pretty high already not that anyone would be happy with a five win season but that that kind of gap would be a big oneplus. Kentucky is one five in a row in this series and nearly every single time going in it seemed like Kentucky is not been in great shape and then South Carolina's offense. It's just sort of disappears and they come out with another loss. I think you've described it quite well. Let me ask you about the the mood there because someone called in and I believe I read something in your paper. Although it's sometimes difficult to read on your website unless you are a subscriber the raid tanner had comments today. don't know what he said. I assume you do yeah you. WanNa you WANNA you. WanNa local radio here and was was about as positive as you can you can imagine said he still backs. Coach said he's not going to go into his office. closed the door and necessarily say this is unacceptable. Oh he he feels that will jam understand sort of the stakes and understands what's going wrong but obviously you also wouldn't expect a lot of ladies to come out on the radio and just totally trashed their head coach. Even if they were sort of feeling that way they did it would be quite a story and by the way we had one about two years ago Scott Woodward at am came on our show at SEC media spring meetings. Excuse me and pretty much said Kevin someone had to have a big year or allison occurred so my question is why is Ray Tanner doing this knowing that what he says today will probably not be operational or operative in November if the bottom falls out. I think it's a matter I think a lot of that's just just re raise personality I think he he tends to look at things in a very upbeat way and you've got to also remember the former coach and I don't know that he's necessarily a guy that's GonNa you know trump his drop his people and and go out in public and necessarily speak that way because realistically if things were to to go all the way south and the change was made then that change would ultimately I think speaks for itself instead of necessarily him having to sort of lay the breadcrumbs up up to it talking to have been bryner about this situation and then one more thing on on that I believe there is what an eighteen billion dollar buyout. We'll mush does that for all intents and purposes shut down the conversation that he will be gone at the end of the season and it's it's hard to imagine and South Carolina coming up with that type of money to get rid of them agree freedom. I it's interesting. You definitely doesn't shut down the conversation. People are still talking talking about it. People are still asking about it. My my inbox has several emails that literally just have the headline of fire. Must Champ functionally. I think it probably would unless they found some sort of situation where it was negotiated down now. Obviously that would require a coach deciding to do that and usually in America folks. Don't give up that kind of money so I'd imagine is functionally stops that but it isn't gonNA. It doesn't shut that any of the noise okay well. Let's play this game yeah. Well I think we I think we all agree a win. This weekend would calm people down and maybe this conversation the next time we talk. We'll will be more about what happens on the field then off the field but if if Kentucky does this again in win for the sixth grade time let's take a realistic look at the schedule and try to figure out where this ends up landing because US everyone knows South Carolina has already played one of its feared opponents but many more remain yeah. I as you kind of look at it. They have three games that you they've well. They have two games that you'd say would be in the very winnable category your Vanderbilt Tennessee then you have APP state which which obviously is a giant killer obviously in the first year of a new coach and it's still not totally clear if they're what APP state has been. Maybe a little bit down but you've got those three games then you've got to of what we're sort of treated in the beginning of the year as toss ups and now look less so which would be your sex saying them and and your Florida and those if I if you kind of bend your be bent your mind a little bit you can you imagine an upset scenario but those are a very long shot and then you bet clemson and Georgia Georgia on the road pumps and comes down here in Columbia and those are some pretty tough games so you're looking at right now. You're the one in three and if they lose at best every game they're really supposed to. They're going to be They're going to get two seven losses so the question is if they really can right the ship. Could they pull off upsets. Maybe but you know you'd have to really write that ship and then the question would be with those other games. What kind of damage control can you do in terms of what you sense. It's every day Ben Listen. You're there. Were not you talk to fans you hear from fans. You read their responses you hear from them through various mediums and platforms. How would you describe Game Cock Fan Base Right now. I think the majority of them are incredibly not sold. I think that's kind of where this is. This was a team that last year came in with a lot of hype and didn't match it and this was year team that this year came in with sort of the the sense that it was going to be more solid maybe the record wouldn't show it because the schedule was so hard but he was gonna look like a better team and between the way they came out against UNC and sort of the ups and downs that we've seen since it seems like they've kind of lost a lot of people now could a big year. Hold them back sure probably because that's sort of how this works you need a big year and even next year the schedule it doesn't look particularly forgiving because there's no UNC which wasn't supposed to be a big game anyway and and they just trade out Alabama in Columbia for a trip to Lsu so life doesn't get that much easier so if you had to look into a crystal ball which I'm sure you have plenty of it the offices of the state. Where do you see this ending up. I see them winning four to five games depending on how Saturday goes and I still have no great read on Saturday because every time these Kentucky Games happened. I think one is is going to happen and we ended up in a very confusing soon. After I kinda think that buyout just sorta hold and there's a very uncomfortable off-season and then you go into next year and you kind of see how things fall that's what I think right now I could imagine a world in which it spins differently but right now just because of sort of having a former coaches. AD having a guy who lose pretty deliberately having a new school President I think that maybe you just kind of end up in a holding pattern unless things go completely south now if they lose tap state and ended up with three wins that might change things been how bad would it be if three or four wins occurred and and you see the cross state rivals win another the national championship. Oh I think it's I think that's definitely a factor because that team is right there and that team that sort of swung long as quickly as it did with you know a very nontraditional head coach that was hired and then you know you come here and you've got the Wilma Shampoo experiment which has been certainly different because it was taking a guy who struggled at a bigger job and bring him down here. I think it would definitely I think that the Clemson thing is always as in the back of people's minds. Even if you know some folks will try to talk people down and we'll say it's just it's apples to oranges at this current juncture but people don't want to hear that and I think that's always on people's minds then Brian in absolutely fabulous report on the situation in in South Carolina Ben Comeback Soon. Thank you very very much. We'll do thanks for having me great stuff very very realistic report. No sugar coating no cheerleading relating just the truth
