Well, it sounds like Mick and Dave, we're kind of in the goofy guy playmakers. No, I can't get in. Hey, that's the credit for any of that. But we wanna go through. Chick at the end. I. Oh, there have been lots of girls too many to fit in this from just what I knew goes, Judy Finkel. You pay off. Julie Finkel at the end. Big big payoff. Okay. You, you don't know how badly I wanted to finish this before you came in so all right? I get the expectation. Well, I will finish it this afternoon. All right. So sense of humor in your songs. There are some serious and there are some you make light of a pretty bad situation. Tell us about well respected, man. Thing manages who are also in the show thing, very, prominently very arid, Socratic people, and very good ideas, manager pop group talk like that. So way, sort of what's his name? No grunt case. Peter grant. No, no. That. That. John grant, Hugh Grant, that's the way Hugh Grant wishes. He told but yes. Great fun, just lawsuits rag. And so I they sent me on a holiday thinking, I was going to be or something I sent it's very posh resort. Very glamorous resort wherever plays golf and. Why don't fit in him? Most peculiar experience coming off the road and going into this of seaside resort, where they played golf and I couldn't play then, so I wrote the song about the people rather than play golf. I sat on the T and what some play this song about him. That's how that's how lots of moist evolve. It's well respected, man. Ray Davies is with us at FM wanna one point nine. Goes by with five. "And if make I didn't like something I did you just love and, and I are no mic doesn't like a can't do this, and Dave as well. You know, it's, it's the way things out with our band and songs. So I I so close to the lyric. I thought it would then would be the a shame if I couldn't do it the way I wanted the first time they heard it finished was the finished product finished mix. You and what was the reaction? I said, it's all rebel. But some others. I liked it. They've over always very polite about my music the ban, because obviously after written a couple of number ones hits and stuff. They said, let him take over the writing didn't after that they didn't really cost judgment until they saw the charts. They lie all light Sunday afternoon. I remember they all like that. And they all said that it'd be big hit, but we always say didn't say anything, I seem to recall, nothing. The fact that it was such a personal thing for you. And, and well, let's listen to. Oh boy. Ray Davies's is. I want to one point nine this is that he had everything done before. He anyone. FM one to one point nine. Gee. Feel. Everything. Gee. Warming around. Waterloo sunset, the kings FM one point nine the author of that song. And most of the king songs. Raid Davies is with us here. I wanna talk about in your book again. You tell the history of, of the band, and you think of rock-n-rollers, especially in the early days of the kings, in the sixties as such a fun wild time, yet you guys didn't have an easy time of it from day one. I mean soon as. Penn touched papers. Litigious. Was it just because you were so young and didn't really? Dave, when we went onto as to David sixteen and everywhere we went in the world we had to get a special visa permit him to work. And so it was quite early days, and I followed us, I think. People thought we were joke band think so we can take advantage of this lot because they won't last very long. I think the problem we had is that we just kept coming up with songs and hits and doing well and touring because what normally happens is a band has a couple of hits and they fall by the wayside, certainly in those days, there was no career intention, and they thought they could possibly take advantage of us. And so they said oh, they'll be finished in a couple of records. But the mistake was that we, they miss calculated anyway, decided not to go to Spain. You know. I couldn't I had to keep writing really exciting time for me because I maybe it's better than being a painter in better, be better than being polish film school because they ended up doing films anyway. And it was just a fantasy I suppose, but law, the law is, is taken over the music industry. Now all attorneys, aren't they? And you had your them, it seemed like the, the deeper you got into it. The more people got involved in at how do you know who to trust? Don't this thing is I think is wonderful thing of John Lennon said years ago. No, I said it would credit him with it. Book I say winning doubt, trust your paranoia. It's because more than likely that will be the end result. It's an if it's not a happy happy event is of learn to think like that, but, you know, you take it with a bit of humor, as well, in, if I hadn't have had such a great band. I'm not plugging the show as make Avery. For example, the drummer, he's, he's always the star start my show because I realize what a mainstay he's being to me over the years when I've been too serious..

"I want to be a filmmaker. So I did that trade in the kings in suddenly they wanted to song. I wrote a couple of songs for them, and you really got it was the first one, I really written for the panned and we played it in gigs, and it was the story of the do in shows, and I the I talk about that's only volved. It's a wonderful story because you do recount it in the book. Yeah. Could you share it was a long story? It's every step along the way was difficult. The easiest part was rising the song. But getting the record the sound the way wanted was a tricky to say the niece is never a record company didn't want us to record it because it was too bad. He played it live a lot. And the and no one's you said hit, but they thought it wouldn't work on record yet. It became you first number one hit. We're talking about, you really got me. Well, listen to the, the final recorded version of it. You can. Okay, we. Well Ray Davies is with us and FM one zero one point nine. Really got me. By your side. Patna. The king their first number one hit on FM one point nine Ray Davies is with us. How does it feel Natta? Listen to that song talk about every night in the show. I listened to like a cringe halfway through because let's have a story I can't really tell on the radio about what happened during recording of that. So in the middle of that actual recording. And I couldn't really tell you on the radio. It just makes me laugh. Listen to it and also listened to the guys will meet singing in the band play is seems like yesterday. When record is. Obviously means a lot to me is actually get the record made. Do you often go back and listen to you? You hear yourself. No, no. Well, I'd like to have some of the ice of white labels, you know, things that pre releases. Yeah. Go friends, and was take them. Always take the best bits. Girlfriends in y. The boyfriend. It's just all these people, you know, they tend to take souvenirs they decide that they want you anymore. We'd take what you've got a. Why are we talking like this so early in the morning? It's a wonderful day. You look spend she looks absolutely splendid say this not just a voice. Listen to it. It's a black dress. Gorgeous is and heavens. Yeah. We met once before it was about probably three or four years ago when the album phobia came out, and you were with Dave, and you were you were out in about together and your brother's. So there's obviously that sibling thing going on. But I had so much fun listening to the two of you bickering. How much of that is reoccurring? I think obviously real because I didn't think I was bickering. He's, it's difficult. You know, relatives being in a business with them being in a band is less. He's being rising, a whole soul. The time it's somebody said trying to cut a king's record was like taming align as a cutting engineer had nervous breakdown after we recorded a lot. We cut when he cut a record he alive. Elba Minia to go on a special course touch the learn how to be a person again, because it was all very aggressive and then it was loving, and caring as luck how music really. It moves from that one style to another. And I think this show is like as well, because although it's only, although it's just me on the stage with a guitarist the band, very present because I'm I is love stories in the book or about the panned, and I wouldn't be there without them. So it says it's very odd experience to be with yet without. A legendary thing about, you know, the your relationship with day that you, you guys did find a lot one or the other was quitting the band. But in the book, your very protective of him, you speak very lovingly. Because I was brought up to look after him, you know, this is my baby brother, I suppose and coming from from a family where a lot of goals..

And other tuned to the dodgers, you know, what I know you gotta take small steps. But I'm very impatient. Just in life, Murph. And you know, what I hate like a great win like that. And you come into work today. Open up the standings. And you see there's still five games on the five hundred. Yeah. Bums me out. It's just one step at a time. Right. I know.
