David Gergen on Running the Nixon Speech Writing Team

"You know, when you came back, when you came back in the speech writing process when I was a young lawyer, it was staffed around. I remember the chief justice of the United States at that time in associate council, arguing with Peggy noonan. That was a murderous row of speechwriters over which we had Bill sapphire and Ray Price and Pat Buchanan. And Nixon. Yeah, and then John McLaughlin came in for a lead in the game with Nixon, but he was around for a while. Ben Stein. It was a terrific group. It was about 50 people. If you look at speechwriting and their sports staff and then the research staff and then we also headed the letters and so correspondent section. So it was about 50 people there. And I ran that for a while.

"In Hart's touch with fire. You also work for Ford. Now Jerry Ford, Jim Cavanaugh is the chairman of my board at the Nixon library. The chairman of the Ford board. And we've talked a lot about Nixon and Ford and their differences. Jerry Ford could never get elected president from the go. I mean, he could have won reelection. He could have won in 76, had things differently. What'd you do for porg? What did I do before? Well, I stuck around. During the next years, I had become, I was first hired by Ray Price, coming up his assistant ray was running a speech on the show. His speech writing and research. And I was his go to Gopher guy. I was very junior at the time. And anyway, I got promoted up through the ranks and then ray at one point said I'd like to be sort of a senior counselor. And I was asked by bob Paul the man if I would run this speech writing and research shop. So which I did. And for about a year,

Amanda Wray on Her Case Against the Scottsdale School Board

"I am so pleased to welcome to the show Amanda ray, she is a Scottsdale mom who is now suing the school board for compiling a very, very creepy dossier about her and other parents in that school district who were fighting back against mandates who get CRT against all of the things that we rail about rail against on this show. Amanda ray, welcome to the Charlie Kirk show. Good morning, Andrew. Well, good morning to you as well. And you're in the Phoenix area. You are, you have chosen to take a bold stand and to fight back, we just had this story that broke this morning that despite assurances from Merrick Garland that parents were not being surveilled. They were not being labeled domestic terrorists or under investigation by the FBI for opposing such things as mandates. We now know that's not true. There's a whistleblower who has come forward and has shared that information with Jim Jordan, congressman Jim Jordan. Out of Ohio, we now know that that's actually happened in dozens of cases. You are a mom that's fighting back. It's very public. There was a whole press conference last week. You were joined by Dylan law group and Charlie Kirk was standing behind you as well. As well, what's going on here? Are you worried that you're on a watch list? You know, at this point, hearing this news, it's shocking, but I guess I wouldn't be surprised. It's amazing to me that what started in August of 2020 when we were just going to board meetings and asking for in person education for our children and to prioritize kids when we knew that they weren't at risk for COVID. We were met with such resistance and come to find out we were being surveilled by a school board member, his father, and there's even evidence that they were colluding with the school district in order to monitor our social media and to track our comments. And appearances aren't everything, but I don't really fit the bill of a domestic terrorist. I don't have a parking ticket on my record. So to be, it sounds outlandish, but I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere there's a tag on me

What Is the Biggest Threat Facing America?

"Is the threat to America? Let's listen to the man who should be in charge for domestic threats. He is the director of the federal bureau of investigations, Chris ray. So whenever we've had the chance, we've tried to emphasize that this is a top concern and remains so for the FBI. In fact, in fact, we viewed it as such a critical threat that back in June of 2019, under my leadership, we elevated racially and ethnically motivated violent extremism to our highest threat priority. On the same level with ISIS and homegrown violent extremists. But what kind of racially motivated terrorism and violence? Is it Black Lives Matter? Is it a tax against Asians in New York by another ethnic minority? No, Christopher wray was talking about white supremacy. White nationalism has been raised. You heard his words white nationalism has been raised to the same threat level. He didn't use the word. Jihadism, but he mentioned Al-Qaeda and ISIS.

When Former FBI Agent Steve Gray Began Seeing Rot in the Bureau

"Just want to remind people, so I've been to Quantico many, many times. And when Steve talks about what the FBI represented to him, he used these three words. Fidelity bravery integrity. He didn't choose those by accident because when you're in the main building for the new agents course, there is a plaque on the wall that instead of the classic FBI badge that says federal bureau of investigations, the letters FBI are transliterated into fidelity, bravery and integrity. So he didn't pick those at random. That's what the FBI's values should be, but we've seen, of course, that they are no longer that. You've been speaking out against your former employer. We're going to talk about what happened to you the consequences of your bravery doing that. But will you tell us when you think the rot began, Steve? So when did you stop perceiving that the 7th floor at the Hoover building was starting to do things that were politically motivated that was filtering down to the field offices in the RAs? Yeah, we first started noticing it when Comey took office. Comey is a leftist left leaning attorney. He's a leftist. He is personal friends with the Hillary Clinton and her entire family. These personal friends with Obama. We noticed it right then and there. And if it weren't for the bravery of Donald Trump, the fire this man, we would be really in terrible shape right now. I mean, we're in bad shape under ray. Unfortunately, he started out okay, but he has, he's basically in he's in save his job mode, where he doesn't want to rock the boat or do anything that's going to get him fired. So he's going to continue to tow the leftist line. But under the Comey years, we definitely noticed it. And if you look at the Hillary Clinton hit that you showed earlier, that's a prime example.

Senate Candidate Says Biden Doesn't Care About Inflation

"Alex ray, we have one minute left. I got to ask you about inflation and the market blow off yesterday. We're going to bear market. It's a correction. It always happens. It's nothing to panic about people shouldn't sell. But inflation is crushing seniors on fixed and how often does it come up on the campaign trail? Well, it's probably I would say it's really one of the issues that comes up the most because whether it's energy policy, whether it's agriculture policy, whatever it is, inflation is the unifying factor and it's something that every oklahomans feels and his or her wallet and it really is becoming a question of are you going to fill up your tank? Are you going to take the kids to summer camp? Are you going to be able to put food on the table? I mean, it's forcing some extraordinarily difficult choices for everyday oklahomans. And the sense that we're getting from Washington is the Biden administration just doesn't care.

Why Dave Rubin Writes About Legend Rudy Giuliani in His Latest Book

"There folks, I'm talking to Dave Rubin. Yes, that's right. Don't burn this country is the new book we were just talking off the air about Rudy Giuliani, whom I had the privilege to meet and interview recently. So Dave, what do you talk about in the book that's related to him? You said there was something. Yeah, well, I've met the mayor a few times, and I've interviewed him a couple of times. And you know, he's a rather extraordinary character in American history who's, you know, because of the last couple of years and with a little bit of the hair dye dripping down the side of his face, his image has been banged up a little bit. But I write about him in the context of the book for two reasons. First, I lived in New York City during 9 11 and my dad worked in New York City in midtown. He saw the second plane hit the tower. He was the one that called me and said, you got to get up and turn on the news and then I had the experience that so many of us New Yorkers had of, I had friends and relatives that couldn't get out of the city staying with me for days on end. We were all glued to the TV for weeks, all of that stuff. But one of the things that kept New York saying and not just New York saying, not just New York City, not just New York State, but the entire United States and I think you could argue the world was that Rudy Giuliani's entire life had led him to that very moment to be the leader at that time. And when we turned on the television and you saw him walking through those streets with ray Kelly with all of the firemen and the police officers and all the first responders knowing there is someone in charge who is competent and decent and ready for this job. It's an extraordinary feeling because we all need that. We need leaders and unfortunately these days we don't have leaders who deserve to be leaders. We have sort of a clown car of craziness, but Rudy's life led him to that, which is why I write about him in the book, because not only was he the attorney general, and he fought the mafia. He was an Italian guy, you know, from New York fighting the mafia and winning.

Darren Beattie: Elon Musk Better Be Prepared for What's Coming

"He's Darren Beatty of revolver, Darren, welcome to America first. It's great to be here. Thank you for having me, Seth. So first things first, I got to give you guys that revolver massive, massive credit. For I mean, of all the journalistic outlets out there, you have done the most in depth analysis of the videos of the iPhone footage from January the 6th. Who's ray eps, who's the guy on the tower, everybody out there, you need to read those two in depth articles on the movements, the events of January the 6th add to that Julie Kelly's amazing pieces at American greatness and you'll have a much better picture of what actually happened on that day. So congratulations to you Darren. We can talk about that in our next segment, but we've got a couple of minutes here. Musk, Elon Musk, not going on the board, good news, because then he can engineer a hostile taker of over of Twitter, give us your take of how much of a cat amongst the pigeons, Elon's recent purchases have been. Well, I think it's extremely significant and certainly portends good things, although we'll have to wait and see how things actually materialize. But what I've been trying to caution Elon is that he needs to understand exactly what he's getting into. This is not any ordinary hostile takeover because Twitter is not ordinary company. Despite its relatively modest market cap by corporate standards, it is an Elon's correct characterization, the global public square, and control over the global public square is virtually priceless in a society such as ours. And so if he goes for Twitter and attempts to make it an actual free speech platform, this amounts effectively to what I'd call a declaration of war against the regime and he better be prepared for what's coming.

So you are in dc and you were just telling me as you walked in the door that you've been working for the state department to the degree that you can tell us a little bit about that While i actually live my husband and bought a house actually during the pandemic in one of the maryland suburbs of dc. Montgomery village about twenty some miles from the white house. A little bit north. I moved out there. Well i i got an internship. The state department in two thousand eight working in the office of language services. we are translators and interpreters. My official title is. I'm a translation project manager but i'm a linguist of sorts. I work a lot in languages. Not a lot every single day. Him languages surrounded by languages. We support the white house and we support the secretary of state with translation and interpretation needs and we also support other federal government agencies. So for example. A lot of the work. I do is with the department of defense. I worked a lot with a capital room. Many years just Anybody who works for the federal government that needs translation or interpretation support and a lot of people still confused the terms so to get that straight translation is the written word and interpretation is a spoken word so you see the president with somebody next to him speaking behind more whispering. That's an interpreter whereas you translate a book and the way to keep that straight as y'all call them sign language interpreters. You never calm sign. Language translates true. Yes because interpretation spoken. I worked on the translation side and i do a lotta linguistics stuff. I'll manage a lot of the translations in several languages. I'm able to read a number of languages. What well. I went to school for spanish translation. Liz -ation management at a school in monterey. So that's really what my degree is in. And that's what. My strongest skill level is in. I speak filipino. Bigalow their garlic. And when i was a kid i really really Got into learning korean. Oh really yeah. That's part of my story as well and few years ago at the encouragement of my boss. I started doing arabic. I've been stating that now for a couple of years when i was also a kid. I studied mandarin For about a year or two Romance languages are pretty easy. If you really really speak one romance language deeply in well you can kinda at least. I'm not saying that. I'm doing translation alive and i'm not working translating into french or certainly not into french but i also do a lot of graphics work in other languages so say for example. There's a project that comes in. Adobe al get our translators to translate it into. Let's say arabic. I do the layout. Because i can read the arabic or i'll do the layout and chinese and i'll make sure that the chinese characters look properly laid out on the page justified. Well amazing according to chinese reader would expect same thing with korean. So that's mine boy. Is it true since you studied language. And you're linguists. Is it true that the human brain when we're young is really receptive to language learning and then that part of the brain turns off. Oh my gosh you have no idea how much i wish. I had studied more languages when i was a because that really would have helped now yet. It's the way i'd say it more. It's really difficult to learn. Language is to new languages without having a strong foundation in it or something similar to it. The older you get. It's not impossible but it just takes a lot more work a lot more work with memorization. I noticed when i was in junior high school. I only needed here. Korean word once or twice and was committed to memory for life. now. I have to sit down. I'll forget alameda. Remember it again. I just need to keep on studying. That's been the hardest battle with me Now diving into arabic is memorization of new vocabulary. So now taking private tutoring. Are you listening to babble for me. Because i'm not irregular language student like say for example. I don't need to learn about grammar. I don't need to learn. I can talk forever about subjunctive cases like that i i Worked in grammar a lot. So i need a private tutoring privata. Goes up my speed okay. Now backing up to the state department so two thousand eight that was during the obama administration. Well that was Yes there's a whole back story even before then. That explains why. I went into this new career because i had a completely previous career as what as roman catholic church musician and literature. This is completely different. Yes yes and Just to answer your question. The reason why two thousand eight was also when property was passed And i knew. I needed to make some changes So you weren't married then. No i was not okay. I was working in roman catholic parishes in northern california. I can cannot back up a little bit so i grew up in pretty close to here in glendale california. My mom definitely was very very filipina. Catholic and i grew up very very filipino catholic. I was very active in my parish. really active and so. When i was a senior in high school. I decided okay. I'll apply to some uc's but i'm also going to apply to the roman catholic seminary. And i got in. And i spent four years. Finishing my undergrad in a catholic seminary. But that's kind of where. I came out of the closet to myself. I left the seminary. After my bachelor's degree and i moved up to northern california to pursue graduate degree in liturgy and liturgical music at a jesuit of their santa clara. Oh so you had come out to yourself. But had you come out to the people in the catholic church because for you to pursue this graduate degree literacy. You're still playing to work within a catholic setting so that's an interesting question. Because i knew that number one i no longer believed what the catholic church said about homosexuality and i didn't wanna preach it. That's the main reason why..

"Can find podcast. Our mission continues to be to invite asian american culture makers in culture shapers their shared their stories with us and as always i'm your host. Ken fong welcome to episode number three hundred twenty five my guests. This episode is rave lido. He's filipino american openly gay interpreter at the us state department and as he describes himself a complicated catholic. He contacted me last spring to let me know that he and his husband. Mike are longtime listeners to this podcast and that he would be in southern california in the summer to see his mother and so we made an appointment for us to sit down in my home studio and have a deeply meaningful conversation about how he's learned to resolve the tensions in his life and what has been like to work for the state department under the obama trump and now biden administrations after recording. This returning to dc. Ray became one of my newest patrons at patriotair dot com. And i gotta tell you. His support is tangible. Evidence of how he and mike are so grateful for all my years of pumping out this show. So if you tour grateful for my work each week to bring you into a conversation with fascinating asian americans. I hope you'll follow his example and become a patron to thank so much are kenmore. Washing machine started making loud. Clunky sounds during the spin cycle about a week ago. We bought it in the matching dryer over. Thirty years ago from sears. When sears was still kind of a viable store so this being several decades ago this machine has no digital display or circuit boards inside. It's very mechanical very analog. I will have to say that the silkscreen labels on the front of the washer are now almost invisible to the eye. So it's involved. A lot of memorization in guesswork at times to put it in the right cycle so it was time i did some online research and decided to get a fangled washer and dryer pair mating greer by the lg company so headed out to best buy to the pacific sales department and was delighted to discover that this being less than a week after labor day it was still on sale so we made the decision to pull the trigger. And we're delighted to know that delivery and installation would be in just two days. How cool is that the guy roll up and he looks behind our current drier and says this is going to be problem because you have a half inch shutoff valve for your gas line and this comes with a five eight inch hose but no problem just call a plumber and once you get this switch to a five eighths shut off. Then we'll be back really now. I went into this back and forth with this guy. It's like well. Why doesn't this by sell a half inch hose and needs like i don't know is the only hose that they sell. I said well. What if i go to home depot right now and by half chose and he's like we're not allowed to use any hose except the ones that's provided by best buy in on and on and on and it was obvious to me that he and his crew weren't going to be able to install this until i get. That showed up failed switch so i opened up my yelp app. I put out this request to get some feedback from local plumbers and One of the plumbers. Who responded said that he could be there within the hour. So when this plumbers shows up obviously he's an immigrant that's fine but we're having some issues with clear communication. He looks at my line and he looks at the hose that best buy supply and basically says this the wrong host. I mean when it means wrong notes. Wild seed says here is a three quarter inch on the label on the hose even though the packet says five aids and getting so confused. I'm like why would best buy. Who does sells these all the time. Why would they still be a. That's actually the wrong sites he goes. I don't know but doing this job. I'm going to have to buy you not only the right valve but i'm gonna have to buy hose and i said well. How much is this gonna cost me. He said like two hundred fifty bucks. And i bought. I go two hundred fifty bucks. Are you kidding me. Why would this cost so much. You look you know. I to take the cardboard box offer new dryer and i had to. You know it's like when not inside in my head. I'm thinking two thoughts one is. I'm not one hundred percent comfortable using this guy. i mean. first of all. He shows up an unmarked white van. I don't see he nomenclature advertising his plumbing business. I'm just wondering if he's trying to overcharge me and i know sometimes but then my second thought is well if i say okay you know what. I'm just going to get a different plummer to come over and do this. I'm pretty sure he's gonna charge me for the visit okay. I'm doing a little simple math in my head and i'm thinking you know. By the time. I pay him for the visit and bring some other plumber out here by him for that visit and the installation is probably cost me more while once. He actually tried to attach the hose that best buy supply to the back of our new dryer. He says oh well it does. Attach so i'll have to do is get the new valve. And it's joe i mean it's literally not the gas unscrew the old one but on the new right and i said okay so since you're not going to have to buy the hose now which is gonna cost me. I don't think he was expecting me to ask that but he comes back with. Okay one hundred fifty bucks get now. I still have my doubts. But you know i'm doing that calculus of well if i don't use them still paying for the visit so i said okay. Let's do this so he left our house. He went to the plumbing supply house wherever that is to buy the requisite shutoff valve and then you know he comes back and he says well now we need to shut off the gas. Where's your gas meter. Hang these things. I don't typically pay attention to. But i said i'm sure it's under that little concrete cover up by the street. I'm staying there as he takes it off and he says by law..

"If you live at a higher altitude let's say denver or kito ecuador you'll have more radiation exposure than someone who lives at sea level likewise flying in airplanes will increase your radiation exposure due to cosmic rays. Your level of exposure will primarily. Depend on how much you fly. And at what altitude you fly for the most part cosmic rays pose. No real health read all life. Forms throughout the history of life have been exposed to cosmic rays and we evolved for our dna repair low level radiation damage. One thing that can't be damaged by cosmic. Rays is computers. If a particle hits the right part of a processor or memory chip it can flip a bit. Causing an error in two thousand and three there was an election in belgium that was conducted electronically the results were more than the number of votes cast in an audit checking. The paper ballots also cast found that the air perfectly corresponded to a single bit in a single computer which could only have been caused by stray cosmic ray particle this is why computers on spacecraft have to have so much redundancy the space shuttle's head to have triple redundancy for exactly this reason the issue of cosmic rays is also a huge consideration for long term spaceflight the only time humans have ever been outside of earth's magnetic field was during the apollo missions and that was only briefly the issue of cosmic rays is a considerable one that needs to be considered for any mission to mars. One proposal would be to surrounded ship with water. Which would stop most of the cosmic rays. The problem is that water is heavy and either we would need to get it from the moon or we need to get it from earth. There's one thing one big thing. I haven't yet mentioned. Where do cosmic rays come from. Sure they come from space but where in space. Exactly the truth is no one really knows. You can't just detect. The direction of particle is coming from. Because they're so easily influenced by magnetic or gravitational fields not just the gravity and magnetism of earth but also that of the sun or even possibly the galactic centre the particles which are flying around space may come from other stars the center of our galaxy or even other galaxies wants a particle is jettisoned. You can basically travel forever until it runs into something. The smallest change in it's trajectory will render its origin impossible to determine. They're actually many theories about where they come from. But it's very difficult to actually prove anything. Cosmic rays are all around us all the time and always have been. There really isn't anything you can do about them. And so long as you remain on earth it also really. Isn't anything to worry about. Whoever if you're traveling in interplanetary space it probably is something you might want to consider. The associated producers have everything everywhere daily. Are peter bennett. "For the next four days every time i made myself a salad. I was filled with this burning. Shame does he know maybe does he. Actively not care certainly very possible. The highest probability is that he didn't think our interaction was ever bad. And maybe he just didn't see me or wasn't in the mood. Maybe he had his own things going on. But in my world and my head no one has anything going on but me any occurrence in the world is going on in my head and not raise head. Ray can have no problems from my perspective. Only i can have the problems. And if he has any problems. I will take them on and i will deal with them. He is problem-free in this world. Please i so self centered but yet so askew it's it's it's the weirdest these no way and then i realized maybe i was not looking at him as a three dimensional human beings away. I felt he treated me. Maybe that's how i treated him in the beginning show. I had a lot on my plate. And i decided publicly. Even though he's not listening to this. I want to apologize to ray. Not only for the initial reaction and the initial interaction. That i- bungled. I'll certainly take responsibility for that. But for projecting my shallowness and my ignorance onto him a second time. Because the i was so filled with shame that i could not possibly have considered what he was going through however that is absolutely no excuse to not put salad on sale. "Of my eye. I saw him but unlike the last time he made nobody gesture towards me he definitely knew. It was me now because before i wondered. Oh maybe he doesn't know what. I look like with my mask. Which is you know the great thing about these miss. However i have a very distinct mask i have one. I wear almost all the time. Almost looks like fish scales but rainbow fish skills which now i'm realizing his mistake. Exempt too easily identifiable. He can't rob a bank but this mass. It's no good 'cause you wear but everyone's gonna know have yet to see somebody else with this mass. Anyway he definitely knew me 'cause now he for sure knows what. I look like with this mask and i went. My body tensed up. chris. I thought naturally oh shit here he comes. I'm going to have to say. And then he didn't his body did not receive me. You know when you someone's in a room and you enter the room and their body kind of turns towards you. You get the sense that they sent that you were there. I got nothing. And i was expecting something. Maybe more of the same. Maybe another shot at bat with ray and i got nothing and eat burns me inside. It was in embarrassment and it was a reminder of my previous failure that he wanted absolutely nothing to do with me even though i was in his store buying leafy greens. That really like how horrible was my last interruption. I punch him in the face steal anything. How bad was it. And what were you expecting out of me. Maybe you looked at my stuff online ones and you thought i would do a little routine and you disappointed. I have no idea. But i just felt this birding. I don't know how to explain it like if you've ever taken niacin they kind of puts this this it it Increases your blood flow. Knee almost get. Read all of your body. And that's that's how i felt. It grew it grew and it was almost like i had a heat lamp on me and i was so obsessed with this failure. I just felt pressure on meals. Eating fucked it up. You totally fucked it up. Last time you'll be ashamed of now your day off to wallow in this and you're so stupid you went right back to the scene of the crime will your bungle the social interaction. What is wrong with you. I just aw. I felt it and felt like i was being made fun of in grade school. Like that's the only any also bothers me that that feeling show many years later decades later doesn't leave you as a person like that that can still exist in its purest form is really really terrifying to me and i kept my head down. I'm not gonna lie. Guy can hide from the bersin. He's already seen me. He's chosen not to have anything to do with. I could just give me a wave. I mean i don't know what else what we would have talked about. I have no idea but to acknowledge me would have been the correct thing to do to save me from the shame. Even if he was. I wish i can't imagine him being so ashamed. Because his his store he rules the roost here. He can do whatever he wants. He makes the snap decisions. He determines what things go on sale even though nothing goes on sale. He's the person who looks at them if he wants to put salad on sale he could put sal on sale. It is his active decision not to kazoo this place so if you want us to talk to me he absolutely have talked to me but he really really actively ignored and i was just fill. I just this heat. I don't know how to explain it. This internal heat. It's almost like a stomach thing. And i just i got my stuff and i was like. Let's get out of him. And then you carry that shame and you feel like it's written on your face so like when i went to go check out just like this woman must now she must be able to see my face. Meanwhile she was like sixteen years old. And i'm sure did not give a shit about didn't even notice anything like who's this person wearing up van johnson tank top which is sure a story for another day. She didn't care but i cared. I was surrounded by failure. And i got in the car and i'm just burning up inside and i just failures all again. I bailed i totally totally failed. And then john on me that i was obsessing over a failure at something that was first of all not a winner. Lose situation in the sense that it could go either way. It's not like at this baseball. I didn't hit the baseball i lost. There's a multitude of outcomes was not my desired outcome. So i feel. I failed at it however it was not something that i was even that interested in quote unquote winning. What do i care this. Social competition grams game things. I didn't give a shit. 'cause i just would have had to never come back. Of course too stupid not to. But that's a story for another day. It wasn't i don't care about winning. I only care about not losing. And i thought well that is ferry sad this so there's no way to even enjoy myself. You know because if i lose then i'm upset but i don't really care about winning this no joy in the winning this just less disappointment if i didn't lose and i was like. Wow this is a real like not only is the glass half empty but it seems like that top. Half of the water has been poured over my head. And i'm just like you know what i'm wet i'm ashamed. I'm a failure. And i would like you to not do that again. Please don't continue to pour water on my head. So this is what i walked around with and.

"In fact, x-rays are no more human invention than visible light is than though what makes x Ray special is that while we've long had the ability to produce copious amounts of visible light. It's only since around the beginning of the twentieth century a little bit before the beginning of. The twentieth century that we understood how to produce in control x-rays. And it's this power the power of the x Ray machine that we're looking at today, and that's one of the wonderful things about this episode is that this is a case where we can point to one individual one scientist, one visist, and and Adelphi dare key role in this turning point in history. Yeah, I think a lot of inventions are kinda murkier, right? Like a lot of things that we think of as inventions are actually just like slight modifications of something that came before this is a case where there really was a tremendous sudden breakthrough and it had far reaching effects all over the world, it just try to imagine the time before x-rays before say x-rays in a diagnostic medical context, we now know x-rays are useful for a lot more than just medicine. But just think about going to the doctor, and maybe having something wrong inside you at a time when there were no xrays. Yeah. This reminds me of the old saying about how book is man's best friend outside of a dog. Oh was that. Because inside of a dog. It's too dark to see. But it is dark inside the body. And it was it was a truly darken in many other ways before the X Ray. Because before x-rays the best way to peer inside the living body. It was to look through a natural aperture using what you would call the old knife scope. Yeah, basically. Yeah. If you if you didn't have a natural aperture to look into you would have to make one you'd have to cut one. And it's I think it was really difficult to overstate the importance of this bit of medical technology. The ability to see how bones and tissues are aligned to see what might be wrong with him. What's broken? How are they healing? But to use a very basic example that comes up a lot discussing the x Ray. And the advent of x Ray technology is you have an individual who is shot with a with a by a gun a bullet enters their body now sometimes the bullet exits the body but other times it does not how do you find the bullet? Well today, we can x Ray somebody find the foreign Matt matter in Honan wherever you need to remove it from. But prior to this one might have to do a bit of searching, and sometimes the bullet couldn't be found at all which can have dire results in eighteen eighty one. For instance, US president James Garfield was shot and subsequently died in large part because they could not find the bullet. That story is actually weird and worth reading about in depth. You ever get a chance to the the assassin was guy named Charles Julius Gaito who he was this dude who thought that he had helped James Garfield, get elected. And so he thought that God was telling him that he had been like a special appointment coming to him. Like he deserved a console ship or something and he ended up shooting James Garfield. But it's often been said that Garfield death was not caused directly by the assassin's bullet. But by the failures of medicine at the time because he didn't die until eleven weeks after he was shot. A not only could the doctors not find the bullet inside him. They had to keep digging around looking for it with like the unsterile. Sized equipment and dirty hands of the time probably leading to the infections of the wound which ended up killing him. Now. I don't I don't want to imply that the X Ray, of course, is our only way of understanding what's going on inside the body or diagnosing illnesses, but it is tremendously important. And as one of the reasons that x rays are taken so often that is why I venture to say everyone listening to this podcast has received an x Ray in their life. I'm sure you've received multiple x-rays. I would be I would be shocked. If there was anyone out there who has never received an x Ray, and you should be thankful that x rays are so much safer today than they were when they were first invented..
