She said, you know, I am an acceptable version of black and that's no good. She's an acceptable version of fashion woman. I mean, she's tiny, man. Is she? Yeah. She's very thin. And her weight should not be what we're talking about, but the point is it's Raven your fabulous series came out. Saying that like fashion essentially puts clothes on thin people a lot of the time. Oh, I see what you mean. So her transition into a much more fashion space is not, yes, she's of color, but she's fitting into a lot of other more traditional tribes. I see I see what you're saying. Okay, not canceled as she's not for me to decide it's for the listeners and if you I don't think I could get canceled because I feel like my mouth is too my mouse too big. Good morning, happy November 29th year as well. You know, I am very beleaguered by the browns lost late last night to the ravens the Steelers got blown out. We are both not likely to go to the playoffs, though it's possible for the browns. I don't think it's possible for the Steelers anymore. So you might be depressed, but I like your cinema piece because I read a lot of the build back better Texas this weekend. I'm up to page 800. It's a nightmare for Democrats. Yeah. I mean, I haven't been that diligent in reading it because I've fall asleep. But I completely agree with you. There's so much in there. And, you know, it's really interesting, I think, to me, here in western Pennsylvania, the amount of ads being run by Democrat affiliate organizations that would side with the Democrats pushing them not only to vote for this, but also to make more amendments to add more things. And I'm just sort of stunned. Watching these ads call senators Casey. Make sure he adds this to build that

"And he brings it right back to himself yet again. Instead of time served lambeth sentenced dustin her to twelve years in prison. Evan liberty to fourteen years and paul slough to fifteen years martin and his prosecutors must have thought they were home free but two days. After mike and i appeared on fox news talking about the case a whistle blower stepped up and blew the government's case apart again. This person turned over army documents. Proving that the government's two main witnesses had flatly lied on the stand and that martin and his team knew about it and may have encouraged it. That is a federal crime. The witnesses matt murphy and jeremy ridgway had portrayed knicks latin as a racist thug who was spoiling for a fight against iraqis that he had a history of taking potshots at iraqis encouraged others to do the same. They accused him of setting off a gun battle with iraqis a week before the nisar square incident. The problem was that army report. The one the government hit from knicks lawyers showed something very different. The army officers at the scene said they were under fire before the blackwater team arrived and that knicks latin had absolutely nothing to do with how it all started at the trials prosecutor. Patrick martin argued that this earlier incident showed that nick indiscriminately shot his weapon without regard for who might be struck by the rounds according to martin nick fired at a person in the building who was not a threat for the express purpose of starting a firefight and that he brought lethal force to bear when it was not authorized when there was no provocation at trial murphy said slat and fired first but in two thousand seven. He said he saw the army already engaged in a firefight when he and nick arrived in their motion for a new trial. Knicks lawyers argued that the government urged the jury to conclude that. Mr. slayton had premeditated nisar square because he had done this previously. And patrick martin even urged the jury to blame nick for all the shots that followed on the inflammatory theory that he had intended to start a massive shooting. Judge lambert was so taken with martin's theory that he denied knicks motion for acquittal saying that nick fired without provocation on multiple occasions openly encouraged teammates to shoot innocuous targets. I guess he was sleeping through the part where we all found out. That murphy and ridgeway lied about that. Predictably lambert also denied next motion. For new trial saying that the lies told by ridgeway and murphy and condoned by patrick martin where inconsequential to the government's case. Every single one of the government's key. Witnesses modem kareem ridgeway and murphy and the iraqis that kareem directed to go left or go right had either lied on the stand or had major credibility problems. And this is what lambert had to say about the litany of willful errors. Although there were mistakes made along the way by the government by and large the government found and exposed and delivered to the a trial where the truth of what happened in salt square game out and therefore the world and the public to see and i think the government of the united states deserves great credit. "Resistance for my fellow journalists to examine how the mango alling facts allowed the unconstitutional prosecution of these men and the role. We all play in allowing endless wars of opportunity. Like so many servicemen and women the men of raven to three joined blackwater to continue to serve their country but like so many of us who write and read stories about people. We don't know from places we've never lived. It gets lost that these are real people with families and stories of their own for me. I'm thankful to travel this path with people in four american small towns. That open to me because of dustin. Evan paul and nick in the one thousand six hundred eighty two days between my first meeting with dustin in a prison in memphis tennessee and there pardon. I wanna start some kind of re entry. Thanks for them because a lot of these guys now they're locked up for drug related offenses in a tent. Burn every bridge. They have so they don't have anywhere to go when they get out and they just fall right back into the old drought and things into you know they need. Jesus they need a place to live any employment so ouseley. We can set something like that up. There comes a point in your life. Were you kinda. Set that aside after you fought for so long and after you know the things that happened us it would be released easy to be bittered towards your government or george. The people in charge. But you just gotta love him and forgive him. You know something that really helped me as god put it on our flesh always let you down. Doesn't matter whoever it is. If you put your hopes and people that lets you down you know if you hang out with me long enough out definitely let you down but god wrong so you just you just love him in. Forgive him you know. And and don't dwell on the past this focus on today focus on garden in just the next day in the same thing and then he's gonna take care of you know if you seek your guidance from him i'm still waiting on the freedom of information act request. I made to the justice department more than two years ago to disclose the exact amount of tax payer expenditure required to put on this show trial. I'm also waiting for responses to my request to several major media outlets to correct their stories about this case. I even sent the government's own documents and trial transcripts to help them so far. Not one correction. There has been a predictable.

"They were hassle right out of the boardroom by the marshalls and the modules. We're real happy with the verdict. These guys these marshals sat behind these guys draw and be changed with these guys six months later on april thirteenth 2015. They were sentenced first. Let's take a look at patrick martins. Math skills which are second only to his logic skills. Martin was pushing for sentences of fifty plus years in prison for dustin evidence. Paul and life for nick. Here's how he justified that now as your knows. Mr slant in himself was found guilty of murdering mr maude. Our ruby mr heard was found guilty of killing six individuals and attempting to kill another eleven. Mr liberty was found guilty of killing eight individuals and attempting to kill another twelve and mr slough was found guilty of killing thirteen individuals and attempting to kill another seventeen all told fourteen deceased victims. Seventeen injured many severely. And they get these numbers from where remember. No autopsies no bullets taken from the wounded. No photographs or ballistics evidence. So how do you assign blame for these shootings with such precision mr martin. It's a complete fantasy and one that judge lambert had no problem accepting. Why because the government's key witness germy ridgeway said so at the sentencing hearing dustin herds attorney david shirt ler pointed out that the government was trying to hang the raven to three men for ridgway's deeds while at the same time calling ridgway aligarh and a criminal the government remarkably invokes the specter of mr ridgway the same witness mr martin through under the bus and his closing statement by saying to the jury disregard germy ridgway's testimony because he is criminal and he cannot be believed based upon all the lies. He has told the government now. They want to rely on his testimony while he admitted pleading guilty to avoid the thirty year mandatory charge in exchange for what he believes. His lawyers are gonna come in and ask you for probation. That's why he pled guilty and when he pled guilty he continued to lie to the government about what he did and tried to put the blame on others for a full year before the government finally pressured him into admitting what supposedly he had truly done and then when we see what he truly had done it was far more egregious far worse than anyone else in this case did the affected. This argument was nil. Nothing judge lambert sentenced knicks latin to a mandatory term of life in prison. He sentenced dustin. Heard evan liberty and paul slough to thirty years. The mandatory minimum for using an automatic weapon to commit a felony. That charge had never been used against military contractors before it had been co defied in one of joe biden's crime bills to bring down drug dealers. It was especially cruel. Considering the men were issued the weapons. They use that day in nisar square by the us state department to defend the lives of other americans. If you wanna hear something to make your jaw drop. Here's judge lambert's assessment of the men of raven to three and their actions on september sixteenth. Two thousand seven this. No witness that an ak forty seven was ever fide them. It's clear that these fine young men just hacked and it's not just a matter of panic because they were issued these inland weapons entrusted with them training and guidelines. That should have told that when you file weapon that your own mess. I when necessary and with due regard to the consequences of your fat. I guess if you slept through these trials you might believe there was no evidence that ak47 rounds were fired and lambert. Shirley knows firsthand. What happens when you panic with a loaded assault rifle in your hands in his world and in ridgway's you can get off scot-free for illegally and recklessly using your weapon to spray civilians as long as there's someone else around to take the blame for it. Interestingly when the defense attorneys complained about the huge disparity between the thirty or sentences for their clients and the one year term he handed ridgway. Judge lambert brushed them off and praised ridgway for repeatedly lying on the stand and selling out his comrades. For a deal. You can't compact operators who fully come forward and agreement. They did wrong. who have changed their lives. You can't compare our court sentences then to how a sentences another striking thing about that for sentencing was the number of times the names. Eric prints and blackwater came up. Eric prince was not on trial and yet judge lambert allowed the witnesses to go on and on about prince and his political influence his wealth and power and his misguided attempts at checkbook diplomacy with the victims..

When did that occur that bill or whoever was telling you. Hey we got the word and this is number. Know why i never knew i never knew one. I didn't know i didn't. I didn't know it was state. There was a lot going on Those last few weeks Ask oriented getting word you know. This guy said this guy talk them. I had no idea. 'cause i couldn't get on the phone or the email to talk to anybody for for like basically all december i was not on the phone at all because we're in cova locked him. Yep so obviously. I knew we were getting down to crunch time like it's it didn't happen by january twentieth. That was it So i was just coming like going on my routine. The way it happened was a guy a unit tested positive for cova. They lock everybody down in the cells. That major in the cell all day long They came round tested. Everybody my my sally tested positive and i tested negative so they said liberty you gotta move out and i was pissed because i had done in that. So you kinda have your. This is your space Talent on the cell almost to this dumbs as sounds you could buy sells and all that stuff to like it's your cell. You determine what. Sally you wanna have in there. You don't like a meeting getting dow shit like that. You set it up how you want Whatever cert- cells and better uses devi all his crown so house i. I'm negative move him. Don't move me out. And i had a lot of stuff love property so anyways amend there and then the you know everybody's locked down coded locked down so they came to me and they said hey Libya has eight. They do showers a couple times a week. So they come they come and let like a couple sells out at time to go shower. Go back to sell so they came to me the say. Hey you're the orderly. That claim the cells. And i'm like. I mean the clear shower some way. I'm not playing reflect the shower. You know let's not my job. But i i wasn't orderly. I was like the guy that they trusted the claim that officers were the ceo's worked you know because it's like the personal ship back there so they always give me type jobs because they knew i was unlike favoring so Yeah i said no one. Clean the showers and they came back here. The only one on this list in the only one authorized come out on the white will. I have to do though like you just spray down show. You don't even have to go in there all right fuck it so i did that and i start. How liking it because every morning. Everyone's lots in the cell. They just come in a lot my door alone so i was freighted. You know be alec. Pretend i'm and i do work. I was doing shit. So i was out all day long. But it kind of turned into me running around doing favors for the all the guys locked in because they wanna pash shit back and forth. They wanted you know. Can you give me how water to like a little hot water out so get me how water i go get hot water and a trash bag and then you slide it on the doors Sitting you run around to checking on people trying to be a nice person you know because you know how it's different when you know how stocks to be stuck in the cell down on this kind of nice to have somebody fucking pass this guy you know this food or whatever so. I was doing that for a few weeks. Kinda allied occupied doing that crab clean and and just messing around and the That the day on the twenty second. We got out twenty four. Yes i was doing. My job. And i was around a couple of the ceo's and they said hey This guy in the unit got compassionate release today on. Why was pretty cool. 'cause they were given out that every once in a while guys get into the end of their sentences may maybe older and a risk for kovic shed so they just let them go come muss earlier whatever and they were saying yes game. He doesn't ebola address so we can't lend it all right now i'm white. He doesn't have an address to give you he doesn't know it in l. Like yeah i'm like wow. I was count target shelves like this guy's got like twenty address radio right now white and they're all laughing night talking shit and then so they do actually that day they. They handed out these Christmas bags like every year. They give our christmas bag. Was slimy bunch of snacks there and ship like junk food so the only thing in there was Why gazi sunflower seeds. So since i was the only one allowed the cell. I might man. I'm going around to every cell. And i'm gonna get every sunflower see in unit asked my mission to that that's all. They did the whole day. The all day i went started at sell one on one and the went all the way through fifty cells. I go up to the door and say what are you doing. Some fosse's lenny by lemme trade in the half the guys. I had been doing favors favors for free weight. So they say you just keep them amara. Thanks so i had like for. Insana had a whole bag of like fifty to sixty bags on some floor seats so spent all debut in that And then they do a cow light four. pm so They locked me in for count- and then at about five they would come in unlocked my door so i can come out and do my job again which i was not really trying to go out there because i had been running around all day with the frigate sunflower seeds so i must around about ten miles a day up and down the stairs. You know all this and then it was like read after five the same guy that told me about the compassionate release for the other guy. The same guy was talking shit to about packed. I already have my address. I'm ready to go Swings my door open his liberty. Sit down. And i'm like i am sitting down laying down. He's like. I could tell us all freaked out on my cv. "Second. Two thousand eighteen all information including files of intelligence agencies regarding whether any of the iraqi police and assert square on september sixteenth. Two thousand seven or any of the iraqi police who participated in the mr square investigation have any suspected connection or affiliation. With any insurgent or terrorist. You can see this one coming a mile away remember. The government has a constitutional obligation to produce anything. That's helpful to the defendant. So course the government at first says it can neither-confirm-nor-deny whether such information exists for months later. Prosecutors filed a summary with the court that named none other than the lead iraqi investigator. Colonel fares. kareem as possible insurgent collaborator. The government cautioned that this kareem known to us. Intelligence operatives may not be the same guy but his physical description and resume. Were exactly the same. As the colonel karim directing witnesses and police officers in nisar square on september. Sixteen two thousand seven. This colonel karim provided us intelligence agents posing as bader core josh al-mahdi insurgents with a steady stream of information about s troop movements. But instead of turning over this watershed information. The government wait for it wrote summaries of the thirteen year old intelligence reports summaries written by the prosecutors. Where have we heard about that before. Yes when judge urbina. And donald balls attorneys stephen mccoll excoriated them for making up lies and omitting exculpatory evidence in the grand jury proceedings. So what were the prosecutors hiding this time not only did. The government had this tiny problem with their lead investigator. Being a terrorist. Colonel karim had publicly boasted. That if he told the iraqi witnesses to go left they went left. If he told them to go right they went right. That's called witness tampering. And it's a federal crime that carries prison time game over case closed. Judge lambert. didn't think so. He ruled that the prosecutor summaries were good enough for the defense. Move along. no terrorists to see here. Here's an actor. Reading from his ruling. The defendant contends that the substituted summer is inadequate because they do not identify whether the possessing agency or agencies associated with inflammation with colonel corinne in some way but as their unclassified summary state. The agency does not know whether these two individuals are the same curse. Any further information would be near rovan nor health. Really.

"Rebus. Latin was right. Judge royce lambert. Left the planet. Right away by deciding. He didn't believe the military extraterritorial jurisdiction act or media. That's the law that lets you. Escorts prosecute military contractors for crimes committed overseas unfortunately for the government the law states that only military contractors who accompanied the us military or have a mission supporting the defense department fell under the law. Black watters contract was with the department of state. Not the dod. Dustin heard evan liberty knicks latin and paul slough were not supporting soldiers. They were diplomatic bodyguards. The delineation was so clear to the defense department. That gordon england the deputy secretary of defense wrote about it in a two thousand seven letter to senator barack obama and then testified at trial. The raven to three men did not ever worked for or support the mission of the dod thus the nisar square case never fell under me. It literally could not legally be prosecuted in the united states or anywhere else believe that statue would have to throw out the case so now judges get to decide if they believe the laws. What but just in case. The jury actually believed media or gordon england's testimony judge lambert muddied the waters by refusing to read them a statute showing that it's the state department. Not the defense department. That's in charge of providing diplomatic security. Lambert definitely put points on the board for the prosecution with his media rulings but he was going to have to pull out all the stops to overcome the problems. In the case there is a wealth of evidence that the raven two-three three convoy was engaged in a gun battle with insurgents just moments after it entered nisar square on september. Sixteen two thousand seven. Remember with our defense attorney. Joseph low told us fear for your life or somebody else's life is a complete defense against murder and manslaughter charges. And as we've explained there were piles of shell casings. That proved this was a gun battle. So what's a prosecutor do about that. The short answer is you hide evidence. You destroy you. Pretend it never existed. You coach your witnesses to lie. You destroy defendants reputation with the help of the press. Yes this actually happened. In a united states federal courtroom. What happened in the raven to three case is not rare. It's the path. Our criminal justice system has been traveling for a long time. And why not joseph. Low a former. Us marine member and instructor in the judge advocate general core a criminal defense attorney for twenty years and head of the elite trial lawyers. College tells us why cheating pays for prosecutors the government pass some rules awhile ago and said that they.

"Think again okay. So you gotta get that t- post and yeah start down there and start time. We'll just you're gonna tie it to that or barwari piece right. Just what she spoke. Okay i'll do my best. The question is how long can you keep fighting the system before you just surrender in the dead of night stuck in a prison cell. How many minutes. An hours and days will pass before the people out. They're the ones who love you and believe in you have to go on with their lives. How do you remember when the whole world says otherwise that you're a warrior not a monster. Those will remain open. Questions for dustin. Heard evan liberty knicks latin and paul slough the men of blackwater raven to three tactical support team and their families and supporters. They never stopped fighting and six years and two months after going to prison for crimes they did not commit. They came home on december. Second twenty twenty president. Donald trump issued full pardons for the four veterans wrongly convicted in the two thousand seven nisar square incident in which iraqi civilians died in the crossfire between american military contractors and iraqi insurgents in his pardon message trump cited broad public support for the pardons and the men's long record of service to their country and finally the government admitted more than ten years. After the fact that the lead iraqi investigator the guy who told us prosecutors there were no insurgence in the square that day may have had ties to the insurgency himself. Of course that fact never made it into news. Coverage about the pardons feed me through some often. It's been seventy days since dustin heard was pardoned. He returned to his hometown of all texas. Here we're fixing fences together on his aunt. Lisa's land dust got a hero's welcome when he first arrived back in only on christmas eve. The whole town came out mustering. Every fire engine and police vehicle it had people lined main street and cheered as he came home from a federal prison in atlanta on the afternoon of our interview a winter storm was on its way and the fences needed fixing dustin pitched in just the way he always did when he grew up here he was thirty nine years old with a fifteen year old daughter and a nine year old son he was just twenty six two tours of duty in iraq and afghanistan under his belt when the nisar square incident happened while we were putting up hog wire to keep the coyotes and feral pigs away from his aunts newborn calves. We talked about his pardon and his hopes and dreams. In the weeks. Following the pardons. I got the chance to talk to each of the men the pardons and how their lives were going in this episode. We're going to let them tell you what it was like to get the news that they were finally free. Here's dustin so. I get the call you know like i said i'm standing there just a pair of shorts and shoes and i haven't even finished getting dressed and i'm just eating my burrito as i'm getting dressed you know the stuff on the bottom police. He's asking me questions he said. Well it's your lucky a said. Oh yeah he said. You're getting a media release. And i was like under what circumstances he's like i don't know but You gotta meteor release. I said well. I need to go get my stuff. He's like oh no you can't go back in and everything's gonna be thrown away. And i started kinda riled up. Because i blow does and you know personal belongings. It has been sent to me over the years while. I've been incarcerated that i wanted to keep and he's acknowledged i'm just joking. We'll have somebody escorts you in there. I mean just talking about your emotions though when you were when he called you and you were and you found out that it wasn't because you got in trouble it was because you got pardoned I mean there's really no emotion. Yeah it was just a the motion was trying to figure out under what circumstance because getting all your rights back being able to own a firearm benneteau. Vote being able to be normal everyday person again. Let's do one of them at all right here. Is what you freedoms one thing but if you get your freedom and you've got all your rights back to where everything is back to where your normal person again. That makes a difference. So i read my paperwork versus full. And unconditional. and he's like well. We gotta do your paperwork packet probation packet. And i won't. Do you see this right here is full. And unconditional in unconditional. Pardon he's like. Yeah i i said well that means everything's done. He's going to do this. I said i'll tell you. What do you impose one stipulation on me. Were calling my attorney right now off your phone and we're going to get the start and he's like no. We're not going to do that. I said yeah. We are and let yo dude. I wanna see the other guys. I wanna make sure that all my guys have got out. He's like. I can't show you that i'm like okay. I don't care about seeing you can tell me if three other names are in their in all three of them are in there. I was like sweet. That's all i cared about. The first i heard of the pardons was at five thirty one pm on december twenty. Second when destin's dad's stacey called to tell me the news. I could barely understand what he was saying because he was so excited next. I got a text from kristen. slough in all caps. It's happening right. this second. There getting picked up right now. I heard from nick that night to as he drove through the dark to his parents farm in sparta tennessee. Evan called from his brother. Aaron cell phone a couple of days later he caught covert in prison and was quarantining in errands basement but that night of the pardon paul called me himself from his sister cellphone on his right home to denton texas from a prison in bastrop he was forty one years old many miles in years from the twenty eight year old turret gunner. Who wrote into nisar. Swear on september of two thousand seven a couple of months later. He came by to talk about that night and life as a suburban dad. So did you get that news from kristen. Okay i did. It was yeah like like a friday. She said this that. The president said to the point of contact pete. You can tell the families but don't don't let anybody else know but it should be within the week or something like that and so that we came in with. He can't help but get a little shaky. Because you just don't know you don't know to. You know awarded to happen. I knew him to be a man.

I was at shamed That this is really. This is washington. Dc this is how courtroom is run in washington dc. It was embarrassing. We asked the families. The men in their defense attorneys. What they thought would happen. Everybody was certain from the start that this was some kind of political theater that it would all blow over in a month or so but as soon as the courtroom door opened and they sat down at the defense table shenanigans started. Here's knicks latins. Mother reba who endured three trials prosecution could get away with anything and our attorneys. Were very intelligent very smart. They didn't even have to ask permission. They didn't have to you know, get canonical approval to do this. It was just a bunch of community people who decided let's get together and get some testing of 2004 before it's released and they organized wage for all of the flavors and it really helps a lot more people were had more eyeballs on on 2004 than previous releases. So it was it was very welcome that people were doing it and he May Roam Shuttleworth did an interview with ZDNet where he spoke about canonical's finances possible initial public offering and going into some details about canonical's profitability, which is interesting because ZDNet did some looking into canonical's reports which they file which show is actually been a profitable company since 2018, which is really cool to see the way they talk about how it's not as profitable as redhat because you'd have to pay as much women too as you do Fred her but it's really cool to see it's actually, you know, financially self-sustaining now and there's a possible path to it going public but there's reasons for caution about especially given the the current situation in the world. It'll be interesting to see how that pans out in the coming years. Martin so later in may we announced the codename for our what was the urban to 2010 release and that code name was groovy gorilla and I'm very pleased that because I managed to convince Mark shuttleworth that that's the codename we should go with and and he he decided to go with it. So yeah, what's the what's the bucket list moment? There should also led to having gorilla based wallpapers and gorilla based t-shirts and stuff. But yet Grill is an iconic animal rather than some weird squirrel the animal that nobody have it scrolling teacher. Yes. Yes and jumping ahead to do now and yeah Lenovo made their entire workstation range of a.m. For brunch and obviously as a ThinkPad nerd this made me quite happy. And so this was a good news item for the middle of the year and I haven't actually bought one yet. I'm I'm still I thought These machines and thinking carefully about what my next laptop purchase will be. But the fact that you can buy Lenovo is now with Ubuntu pre-installed and available directly from their website page makes me very happy. So that was good to see that. Yeah, and it also marked that this year. We had more of an to certified certified devices than any previous year. So, you know way more prone to in the wild. It's great and melted. We had our first bit of good Raspberry Pi news in June. Yeah, the the Raspberry Pi for got serious when they released their 8gig bottle so long that was this has been a real Tipping Point. I think there's been so much more interesting in the Raspberry Pi because it now is fast and has plenty of ram. It's really quite unconstrained and I immediately went out and bought I think I bought about half a dozen, of course you did. Alan as part of my drum beat that I've been banging for a while about people should stop making distros and start making more applications I was pleased to see that flutter SDK came to Linux so people have another Avenue to either develop brand new applications or Port applications that are made available for other platforms like Windows and Mac they can bring to live it's a lot easier using flatter and so in July I was quite pleased to see that people have an additional Avenue through which to express themselves in app development my what a lot of good news and we've only got two August so Alan what did we find in August oh my gosh this was just amazing the national museum of computing most of them at all and obviously if it's difficult for you to get to the national museum of computing which it might be then a virtual tour is just as good because the way they done it in such a way that yep Virtually walk around the museum and zoom in on their exhibits and look at the posters on the wall and move from room to room and it was just so beautifully done that you could just walk Meander around a museum like you would in real life, but there was nobody to bump into and nobody to get in your way and nobody standing in front of the exhibits. You could just Meander around at your leisure and revisit a long time. So you can go back to that website now and have another look around the museum. It's fantastic. I loved it brilliant and shortly after we found that Jupiter broadcasting Friends of the show announced that they are independent. They threw off the shackles of their Corporate Offices to become an independent broadcasting network once again, and we wish them all the best and still continue to do so wage Martin what happened in September well in September building on the news of lenovo's bringing their range of workstations with a bun two in June HP announced there's E-Series wage. Workstations and mobile workstations are also going to start shipping with a band too and that completed the trio of the three sort of top-tier 100 EMS that are now all shipping a bundt cakes on their devices. Excellent. Yeah, it's great to have more choice for you know, when you when you want to buy a laptop, you know, there's all these little Boutique people like the system 76 and the tuxedo and all of that but having big brand names that people know and recognize available directly from their website that you can order a machine with a bunch of pre-installed gives a lot more confidence for a bun to as well cuz people then off okay. This is a legit thing if this company is selling it then you know, yeah, I like that there's a lot of commentary about you know, how do you Market desktop Linux and get more adoption and I think this is this this is how we do it after we get we get a bun two or more devices that people can easily purchase because what is it you're advertising if it's not like go and get this thing here and Away you go off. And in October episode 29 we talked about something super exciting really the consul which I always want to say. Yeah, because that's the title sequences. There's developer working on Main Line limits kernel support for this device, which it was an Android console that anybody Commerce failed off in the you know, a lot of them were sold. It was a crowdfunding campaign. A lot of them were sold and they weren't as popular as they could have been and there was some missteps but a lot of them out there and so developer was working on getting support for this in the mainline kernel so people can revive their little tiny device which sits next to the TV allows you to play video games on the TV very easily. So yeah, I was very pleased to see that in October. Will you be installing a Linux distro on your oh, yeah at some point. Yes, just so that I can make sure. If we come back for another season, I can imagine that I've installed like something like yeah, what else happened in October the windows calculator on Linux with wage that form happened with another opportunity seen it's just constant stream of these app development platforms and sdks coming to Linux and you know had a little cheeky bit of promo for the exact development platform by bringing a Windows calculator like experience to live acts and I found that quite fun nice way to promote the u e s d k and yet another way for people to build applications on their favorite desktop. I still have it installed as my default calculator and I got very excited in October about the New Jersey Pi computer module for which has a new form factor and they also released an an example I owe board which it plugs into which offers. Still hoping will lead to a new generation of raspberry high-powered laptops using this module because I think it allows a much sort of more streamlined design of laptop based on the rise in Palm platform. Yeah, I think that you know with the 8gig model in there and this then the 4gig model and what-have-you. The time is right before somebody to come up with a genuine Raspberry Pi laptop for sure. Also be there a PCI. Yeah connector. So it's kind of Limitless what you can do with that, you know Mayweather. It's a GPU or something else on that bus could be super interesting. Yeah wage and that wasn't it for the Raspberry Pi news Martin know in November. They announced their Raspberry Pi 400 keyboard, which I think is my device off of the year, you know, the lucky we've covered all of these Raspberry Pi announcements. They've been busy over the course of twenty twenty, but I thought this was absolutely Splendid the the keyboard fog Factor yeah, really makes it super convenient to have a Raspberry Pi just on your desk and in the corner and you can just pull it forward and do stuff on it when you need it. I love it. It's a great great choice and the book that comes in the full kit is brilliant if you've got, you know kids and they're just getting into scratch and stuff. That book is just a treasure Trove and finally Martin found some open to Marty news. How could we not have a little bit of a PIN to martinis at the end of the year? So in in late November the ability to mate team announced that we had enabled the GPD Win Mag Mobile gaming laptop and official firmware is available from from the GPD website and the ability not a website great. Well listeners off a good year. It was for news if we've missed out your favorite news story from the year. Why don't you let us know you could email show a tab under podcast. Org will still be reading your emails wage. In between this year and next year or you could come and tell us about in our telegram Channel go to a bunch of podcast. Org / Telegram. I know it's time for some gooey love and the last gooey Love Of The Year Martin. What did you find? Well, I found a thing called mango hard. I I mentioned earlier in the year that I'd been playing cyberpunk 2077 on Linux and I found a couple of other people that were doing the same found one guy heard put our one of these frame rate time interval counters overlaid and I was like, ooh, how do you do that? And it's this thing called mango head off. So I thought I want that and I built it from Source like an animal and made it work and I thought this when do so I then found out that the Debian gaming team had been preparing packaging for man. I had so I took that and adapted it and back ported it to a bun to and published it in a p p a and I now have my games in Steam automatically launch They say valet so I can see the power consumption of the GPU the temperature of the GPU and the CPU the frequency, they're running at how many frames per second the frame rate in rentals and all the rest of it. That's really good cuz my previous solution to this when I had an Nvidia GPU was I would SSH into my steam box from another computer right and wrong that Nvidia CLI tool which output this to the to the command. Yeah. Does it work with any GPU? Yes, there's so my the one in my PPA does. So the one that the Dead Sea my publishing doesn't have the Nvidia GPU enable member I've enabled that in the the version I publish in my p p a and when it starts you can just use shift F12 to turn it on and off so I have moved away start and then I can turn it off when I don't want it to be there. It doesn't lag the the game or impact the game performance in anyway, noticeably. Not that I can measure know and then when I woke Put some tweets out about this and then a bunch of people said, oh, well, what you need now is this thing called go valet and go valet is a thing that configures mango HUD say what attributes you want displayed a what color and where you want them. So I've also prepared and packaged to go over there and it's in the same PPA. So you've got the the UI to configure a managed this thing while I've links to the show note in the show notes to where you can get all of that good stuff nice and now it's time for all your wonderful feedback and 1st. Eric Nancy modus. I wanted to give you my perspective on hp's new laptop and workstation offerings geared towards data science as a professional statistician and data scientist. I am certainly excited to see oems begin targeting this rapidly growing field. My only critique is how they have only included python as the language of choice. Whereas the love for the our language. I have nothing against python at all. But we're seeing more and more data scientists, utilizing both R and python in different aspects of their workload and it would be nice to see Lem start recognizing the importance of having both readily available The Cutting Edge algorithms in statistics are almost guaranteed to have a dedicated our package and now it is much easier for our Toyota great with python to tap into tensorflow or other ml libraries, perhaps. I just need to be a bit louder to the OEM vendors about this. So Eric, that's excellent feedback and I'll help you with that. I am I have the opportunity to speak to HP about this stuff and I'll send them your feedback and we had several emails about what you've been up to since the event wage and first up Joshua Schechter emailed us. I enjoyed the section of the last the winter podcast that describe what you've been up to during pandemic times when I get free times. I like listening to audio books at home. Costs I did want to make an audible recommendation We Are Legion we are Bob by Dennis Taylor. It's the first of a fun future sci-fi Trilogy that has tons of references that I think you'll like excellent. I will grab that because I'm just about to finish my current book. So I look forward to listening to that as well. Thank you. Joshua James Swift emailed us listening to your cellphone about board games struck a chord before the event. I used to enjoy playing games with people. I've tried online versions of say Monopoly but find that they suck a lot of the fun out of it, forcing you to adhere so strictly to the rules where you all have our own special house rules rules, don't we so I spent a few hours and wrote my own version which I can screen share in a group video chat. It has the basics such as pieces moving around the board in order the prices of the houses etcetera, but it's designed to allow you to use your own Monopoly money your own name. Ice and if you like and be flexible enough to use any of your own house rules, I've only tested it in a real game once and it worked. Well, except I forgot to make an option to allow players to declare bankruptcy. So sadly we're doomed to play for an eternity but isn't that how all Monopoly games go? Anyway, I guess because this is not only playing games during the event but also developing something new during the event row. That's excellent. I approve. Yes and Ian Forbes emailed us in episode 36 you asked us how people would be feeling that time after the event as I'm in Sweden. We're not in strict locked down but staggered shifts have been introduced at work to minimize staff interaction following a small outbreak. How do I counter the existential angst? Mainly Talisman digital version Among Us and tabletop simulator on weekends and during the week the Great Courses audio books. These books are often 16 plus hours long. get a lot of value for your credit so far I've taken courses in biology human behavior Eastern religion and Russian history I should be able to crush the rest of the family at Trivial Pursuit over Christmas fantastic job very good Graham Ashton emailed us I too have been focused on decluttering recently and have many things to photograph describe and take to the post office I also have a spunk of things sold and cash recouped very motivating the main reason I'm emailing is that I'd love to know what you've discovered about cheap and responsible packaging Allen any tips off every time something arrives at shape o p in a cardboard box I keep the cardboard box I reuse cable boxes all the time and if you come into my kitchen along the top above all the walk very shelving that all the kitchen stuff goes in there's just lines and lines of couple boxes because I would way rather reuse existing covered Bob Couple boxes and reuse the packaging then create something new. So that's that's my thing is I keep them and it makes my kitchen look a bit cluttered if your eyes go home of six foot but if you keep your eyes at six foot and don't don't lift your eyes, it looks fine. It's fine. Nobody cares. But yeah, there are a whole load of boxes in my kitchen that I reuse. That's why I do and finally Dave Parker emailed us greetings from Canadia. I tried the roast potatoes and they were hit thank you. I thought I'd share my Linux project as a chiropractor. I was forced to close shop for six weeks back in April to May. So I did a command line Love Project. I can never find a Linux music player who's playlist cuz easily be shared with an Android player. So I made one it's a bash script that extensively uses Yad off and implant apologies for the unschooled coding. This is also fantastic. It's it's so many buttons like it's a shell script and you've created something. I approve of this completely it's dead. Plastic. Yes, and we'll have some links in the show notes to Davis project. It's called yard player and that's all of your feedback for this week and indeed this year off and that's all four episode 40. We made it guys cool and it took two years this June right? Well, thank you everyone for listening all year. It's been lovely to hear from you lovely to have all your feedback lovely to chat with you all in telegram again, if you want to chat with us in between this year and Possible season 14 come over to a bunch of podcast. Org / Telegram and say hello will be in their home. You know when we're not going anywhere for Christmas are we know and it's it's a generally friendly place and we talked about all manner of stuff whether it's t off. And sometimes even to Linux. Yeah. Yeah, so thanks very much everyone and we'll we might see you again next year..
