"Raul Grijalva is Wisdom and House Armed Services Committee chair Adam Smith's guidance and all the leadership here in the House. I had the opportunity to make a real difference for communities everywhere by addressing climate change, protecting voting rights, fighting for racial, environmental and economic justice and providing urgent covert. Relief for millions of people. Her final speech today is a member of the House of Representatives dead Jalan who is now the interior secretary in the Biden cabinet. California Governor Gavin Newsom acknowledged today that an effort to recall him is likely to qualify for the ballot, setting the stage for what will be clearly an expensive and often bruising battle that will draw national attention in the months ahead. The Democratic governor, announcing a number of high profile endorsements to fight off that challenge, including senators Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Cory Booker, and on ABC is the view he was asked about this recall effort. Look, I appreciate that, As you noted correctly. This is the sixth effort and I've only been in office 25 months. Just 25 months, There's been six efforts to put a recall on the ballot. This one appears to have the requisite signatures This started before the pandemic. If you look at the list of grievances from the proponents of this campaign, it goes to our values. It's less about me. It's more about California and our values. Democratic Party values issues related To the Browning of California immigration issues related to low carbon green growth. Our climate policies issues related to our advancement to end the death penalty or increased the minimum wage or advance pay equity. And so I say that quite literally, that's what's at stake in this election. In this recall, guys like me, come and go the end of the day. These principles are what we're fighting for. So governor. You say that this recall effort has ties to the same extremist groups that stormed the capital, but organized his claim more than the spirit of signatures off from Democrats, independents and unaffiliated voters. MED that your pandemic policies shuttered businesses and schools are both true. Well, the chief proponent of this and forgive me, This is just objective truth. The chief proponent of this recall petition supports putting microchips in the migrants into immigrants. Uh, the other proponents, the chief, the top 10 proponents of people that are behind this are members of the three Percenters, the right wing militia group. The proud boys supported the insurrection are folks that quite literally enthusiastically support que non conspiracies? And so that's the origin here. Now, as it relates to the people that signed this petition, it just takes one quarter of people that supported Donald Trump to put a petition on the ballot or rather recall on the ballot. We're one of just 19 states in the country that allows this process, but we have the lowest threshold in American. Of course, you are all very familiar. We had a recall. Not too many years ago in 2003, and so would be goes to your original question. I'm not worried about. Of course, I'm worried about it. The nature of these things. The upper down question the zero sum Nature of the question is challenging inspection and so we're taking it seriously. I have to do my job every single day. But I'm gonna fight this thing because I'm gonna fight for California values and the things I hold dear, And I think the vast majority of California's regardless of their political stripes, hold dear. From ABC s the view Earlier today with California Governor Gavin Newsom, he made reference to a similar recall effort back in 2003. That forced another Democratic governor, Gray Davis. He was replaced by actor and Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, in an ABC News interview posted online, Dr Deborah Berg's a former member of the Trump White House Coronavirus Task force. Sat down with correspondent Terry Moran, and in that interview, she gave her first detailed reaction to the former president's comments. This is what Donald Trump said in the White House briefing room April of last year. So that go a question that probably some of you are thinking of this year totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So supposing we hit the body with a tremendous whether it's ultraviolet or just very powerful light. And I think you said that has him eject. But you're gonna test it And then I said Supposing you brought the light inside the body in which you could do either through the Skinner in some of the way and I think you said Going to test that, too says interesting, right? And then I see the disinfectant with knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we could do something like that by injection inside or or almost a cleaning? Because you see gets on the lungs, and it does a tremendous number of love. So be interesting to check that so that you're gonna have to use medical doctors with but it sounds It sounds interesting to me so we'll see. But the whole country After the light the way it kills it in one minute that Z pretty powerful. Those comments by former President Trump in April of 2020 this reaction in the ABC News interview with Dr Deborah Burkes, beginning with a question from correspondent Terry Moran, and I'm thinking about that press conference with the president talking about disinfectant, injecting people and And ultraviolet light and stuff like that when you heard the president say things that weren't true, contradicting the science, dude, How do you think about your role in that, Andre? How do you think it impacted the American people in their confidence in the science that we need to solve so many problems? Well, thank you. And please know that science does evolve as it did during this pandemic, So we know a lot more now than I knew 14 months ago that moment. Obviously, there's a lot of tape on that. You can see how extraordinarily uncomfortable I was. Unfortunately, he was not speaking to me. He was speaking to the DHS scientists who had presented the data. And then when he did turn to me, I said, not a treatment. You know, I have spent almost 30 years in the military. I worked for every president from Jimmy Carter up and up in SARU, President Bush in the military serving them as commanders in chief. Those of you who have served in the military know that. There are discussions you have in private with your commanding officers, and there's discussions you had in public. Frankly, I didn't know how to handle that episode. I still think about it every day. When I was spoken to. I said, not a treatment, but I don't know. I guess some people thought I should run up on stage and interrupt this dialogue that was going on between the DHS scientist and the president, But I was just not trained in my My years of training Tol react that way. I think maybe if someone didn't have the military training that I had, maybe they would have reacted differently. It's something Dr Fauci and I talked about all the time is how to correct the record. And, of course, CDC at all of us went out and said This was not a treatment. This was really meant to be. What could happen at a playground in the sunlight to the virus on the playground, you know itself. Despite yesterday's acquittal as NPR's Barbara Sprint reports, the Democratic lawmakers say pursuing witnesses would not have changed the outcome. A surprise Senate vote to allow witnesses threatened to up end the speedy trial members on both sides of the aisle were anticipating. But managers and Trump's defense reached a deal to not add witnesses but instead allow a statement from Congresswoman Jamie Herrera Butler to be read into the record lead. Impeachment manager Jamie Raskin told NBC's Meet the press. He has no regrets. We could've had 1000 witnesses, but that could not have overcome the kinds of silly arguments that People like McConnell and capital were hanging their hats on. Republican senators Mitch McConnell and Shelley Moore Capito both cited constitutional concerns in their vote to acquit the former president. Barbara Sprint.

"Undocumented immigrants from the U. S census. He doesn't want them counted for the purposes of drawing new congressional District's next year. So far, three lower courts of blocked his attempt as NPR's Nina Totenberg reports. Now it's up to the high court. The Constitution requires that there be a count of the quote whole number of persons in the country every 10 years and that congressional districts be apportioned based on that population count. In July, President Trump issued a memorandum ordering the Census Bureau for the first time to send him two sets of numbers. One delineating the whole number of persons in each state and the other for apportioning congressional district was to subtract all undocumented immigrants from that count. 22 States challenged the Trump order in court, contending that it violates the Constitution, the census statute or both. Trump compared to Castro in new attack ads

"And in this ad, they are saying that President Trump is like the dictator Fidel Castro. Now the other ad they're saying, always going to stay for a third term. This is terrorism by these these wankers on And this ad is completely crazy. It is mostly black and white newsreel footage from 1959, the Castro communist Cuban revolution against the Batista regime. And then they lined up landowners against walls and Che Guevara, one of their heroes oversaw the mass murder of Cubans of successful people. And it's been a loser prison ship ever since Barack Obama gave them everything they wanted posed for pictures in front of giant Che Guevara. Murals on the sides of buildings on got nothing for political prisoners or the women in white or Anything anything at all. Let me play this for black and white. And they have one have a Spanish language version because they're trying to terrorise Spanish speaking voters in Florida and particular Cuban American voters in Florida. By saying Trump is the real Castro here Now these guys were the Socialists. We know this. This is the kind of this is what Communists do in terms of propaganda. This kind of propaganda you don't see in the United States of America. Except now you do because they hate trump so much. They're so crazy. Michael, Let's Let's play this. There's one minute. There's one minute add black and white old newsreel footage of of Cubans Taliban holding up pictures of Fidel Castro. And then they've got film footage here of Castro's people check, whereas people standing men up against walls and shooting him through the head and the brains splash against the wall behind him, and then another guy's So let's listen to this ad. Yeah you did that, right? So I am excited to share with you that I had a great conversation with him and I found this wonderful piece that's now in my collection and getting ready to be afraid to put on my wall called we hustle harder and when I found out the print which by the way is an embossed linocut I missed a misplaced the card that was with it and I just couldn't read his handwriting. He should have been a doctor. So I went to social media image of my friends and we had some clothes some near misses some close calls and it wasn't until I was scrolling in my Instagram and I realized it was him. A California DMV study found the devices are more effective in reducing DUI recidivism than license suspension alone at least early on for first time offenders in Sacramento. I'm Chris Nichols. A big issue that came up in the state legislature in two thousand eighteen and during the campaign for governor was the idea of a public health care option, it would allow Californians to buy into a state sponsored health plan that would also compete with private health plans. KPCC health reporter, Michelle Faust, ragavan explains what's next in two thousand nineteen governor Brown approved a Bill to do a feasibility study. That's going to get started soon. Governor elect Newsome had will likely be the one who appoints the board that puts that together. And he also endorsed this idea of a public option, but whatever they recommend wherever this goes don't expect to see it before October first twenty twenty one lawmakers are still exploring what a public option could look like one idea is buying into medical. Another is something like L A care where they offer both Medicare plans and lower cost options on covered California. It's New Year's resolution time, maybe a diet or workout plan is on.
