Former Obama Car Tsar Blames Biden for Inflation

"Now as you know, I always try to use left wing sources whenever I can to make my arguments. Inflation is up year to year 7.9%. And guess who says that this is because of Biden not Putin. Steve ratner, who Steve ratner, Steve ratner was a lead adviser on president Obama's task force on the auto industry. He was called the car czar. And he said, was asked whether this is largely due to Putin. And he said, and I'm responding in a tweet. Well, no. These are February numbers and only include a small Russia effect. This is Biden's inflation and he needs to own it.

Obama-Era Treasury Official Tears Into Biden Over Inflation

"Inflation is bad and now you actually have a former economic official from the Obama administration guy named Steve ratner well known on Wall Street. And he's penning an op-ed. Actually, in yesterday's New York Times in which he blames the federal government's enthusiastic spending. Wow. I mean, think about what's happening here. The Democrats are like turning on themselves. I thought they just wanted to spend and spend and spend and spend now finally. Somebody with like, you know, a couple brain cells is saying that no, that that's not the answer and he refers in this op-ed in The New York Times to the interview that the president did with NBC with lesser holt in which he said, well, ratner, Steve ratner saying that Biden is just too simplistic and his comments were misleading. Let me quote, he says blaming inflation on supply lines is like complaining about your sweater, keeping you too warm after you've added several logs to the fireplace. So in other words, you can't just blame this on supply chains. The reality here is this. We spent too much money. And when you spend that much money and you flood the system with that much cash, when you print that much money over at the Federal Reserve, and then you hand out coronavirus check after coronavirus check after coronavirus check, you know what, you're going to have some consequences. And these are the consequences we are facing right now. This is why coupled with the supply chain, which is a natural problem in light of all the factory shutdowns, you put all this together, you got inflation that just won't quit.

R. I. cash about this she's with the center for mindfulness compassion and resilience at Arizona State University mindfulness really is a spiritual by passing so we're not trying to bypass the fact that there are social injustices and systematic issues that show up in these different communities in and these different spaces and so she and other experts I spoke to you made the point that it's hard to do mine from is effectively unless teachers actually have their own personal mindfulness practices so they can kind of walk the talk on you can minutes with our education team thank you so much for this really interesting reporting thanks this is NPR news spillover is when an animal virus jumps into humans and it might not be as rare as people think researchers working in China have identified hundreds of corona viruses circulating in baths viruses that already sparked outbreaks that went undetected long before covert nineteen right of ours are actively spilling over in the human population that story this afternoon on All Things Considered from NPR news All Things Considered can be heard from four thirty to six thirty.

Adam Sandler shows his serious side in the manic 'Uncut Gems'

"The new movie uncut gems arrive brives on a wave of accolades from organizations including the National Board of Review. which named Adam Sandler the year's best actor and the New York film critics circle which she gave its best director award to the filmmakers? Josh and Benny softy in the movie Sandler plays a New York jewelry dealer who becomes embroiled in various desperate schemes schemes. To get out of debt film critic. Justin Chang has this review. Adam Sandler is known for his juvenile Hollywood comedies. But if you've seen him in movies like punchdrunk punchdrunk love and the Meyer would stories. You know that he can be a superb dramatic actor when given the right material. He's found the right material. And then some in Uncut Gems uh-huh written and directed by the brothers. Josh and Benny Safdie. This is a tense and jittery throwback to CD New York crime classics such as the Gambler and bad lieutenant tenant about desperate men spiraling out of control. It's wildly entertaining. An utterly excruciating off at the same time Sandler plays an impulsive XLIV fast talking Jewish businessman named Howard Ratner who owns a jewelry store in Manhattan's Diamond District. We first meet him while. He's having a colonoscopy the the movie sly way of letting US know we're going to get uncomfortably up close and personal with the sky. It's also one of the few scenes in which the character isn't emotion. The the story unfolds over a few chaotic days in the Spring of two thousand twelve much of it takes place in his shop. Were Howard pedals. A lot of wears like stolen rolexes diamond. Diamond studded furby dolls that are almost as flashy and dubious as he is with his study earnings leather jacket and dreadful goatee but before long Howard. What is on the move? He has a sports gambling habit. That's cost him dearly and loan. Sharks have started turning up at his store to collect. But Howard isn't just addicted

Adam Sandler shows his serious side in the manic 'Uncut Gems'

"Adam sandlers back. Apparently he's playing a dramatic role. So I will. We'll read the synopsis that Cynthia so kindly added to the podcast for me. So from claimed filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie we south die comes an electrifying crime thriller. About Howard Ratner. Adam Sandler a charismatic New York City Jeweler always on the lookout for the next big score when he makes a series of high stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime. Howard must perform a precarious high wire wire act balancing business family and encroaching adversaries on all sides in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win? Sell the movie's called Uncut cut gem jeweler. Yeah and this movie is also set to release in a couple of days December thirteenth. Okay yeah and it's labeled as a surprise Christ Thriller Film Now when I first saw the trailer to this movie I actually saw at the movie theaters. Watch joker okay. So they played this film and Uncut Gems and to be honest. My initial reaction when I I saw the trailer. I wasn't impressed I was. I was confused. I was like what exactly exactly. You're okay so let's break this down. I think this film is going to be in my opinion. I think this film will be trash. ooh I think this is going to fall into the trash from genre really daily honest okay. So here's why one actor who is on the tail end of a successful career. who used to be in comedy? Who is trying a more serious role to one of the main stars is better known for her music than she is for her acting. Right which is Adina Menzel right. And and what did we learn in deep-sea. Ll Cool J.. Right T I in that movie that we talked about last week where it ended up being really awful right. So we've got two two out of like the three elements that we need. The only thing that we're missing is a director that nobody's ever heard of who is really passionate about this project also. We have a trailer that makes literally no sense. But okay so I would not have gleaned anything in that description from that tree right okay. I'm glad that you agree with me because uh when I first saw was like am I and I saw it twice right so I wanted to. I had to watch it twice. I was like am I like Nagaland by like what am I not grasp rasping because I can't understand apply just like drawers and like there's money and guns and vaults that he was a jeweler until I read the synopsis. Just now well I kind of put two and two together because I mean he was walking in a jewelry store. And then the name like uncut gems like I don't know that's just my thoughts but I don't understand like what exactly doc is his role like who is who is he hiding from running from what's going on. He's hiding in running from everybody. which is yet another reason why? I think this movie's going to end up being really bad because like in the trailer he says I'm GonNa make a bet on this over under and they're like there's no way that you win burr and he's like yeah but like like that's just part of the game and he's got this smug thing gone and like this is family friendly podcasts. I'm not gonNA reference all of the jokes in the language that there's some base level bad like race oriented jokes towards Adam Sandler in this film that they're like putting into the trailer as as if to like try to force you to think that it's trying to be this like edgy. Dark comedy but also is like a thriller and then like Adam Sandler's performance wants is just like so over the top smug than it looks gross. It feels like his acting feels like it belongs in a fake documentary right like a spoof documentary where he's playing like Borat like the character is just so outlandish and then you've got all these other dudes who are like these serious gangsters gangsters and Dina Mozelle. She's the one the woman who's playing his wife correct. I don't remember what she looks like. Actually playing somebody like definitely in the film Tom. She's playing she was she's she's playing Adam. SANDLERS girl I don't know why so out of place like the whole time time. She looked so out of place. You're just like even in her acting. It looked like she felt uncomfortable with what was happening in front of her. And he's like he's like you know I've made my decision vision. I'm leaving but I love you baby or something I don't know there's there's dialogue was weird like I don't I was just like left with a big question mark the whole time. I was watching the trailer and I'm a fan of Adam Sandler I love. I love all his comedy film. Fifty first date Zohar is just so so ridiculous. Oh it's so bad but so good so yeah I just. I don't know I was confused. I was a little disappointed because initially I was kind of excitement. Adam Sandler sound like what is he doing now and I just I completely missed the whole point of the trail or the ply and I don't get it yet. Judging by the trailer this movie is not going to be good but in the show notes you wrote something about what the critics say show that. Yeah so this was surprising saw was looking through different sides of talk credits who are who raided the movie and it surprisingly they rated this movie very high. Ninety five percent. Tomato made to- meter score on tomatoes. which that's like incredibly high for rotten tomatoes and one of the reviews from the top critic said uncut gems was my most stressful cinematic experience of twenty nineteen it was also one of the best and then another critic said Adam Sandler deserves an Oscar for his riveting performance uncut gems? He's absolutely brilliant here. So I don't know because he's all the most of the reviews. I was reading pretty pretty good highly praising the movie so so like the trailer just isn't doing justice. Not The point of the trailer. Are they try Giardi. And so it's like how you said it's so trash like you have to go see it because you're entry on what it's about well. What happens quite often with things like this right? So you've got this movie. That's about this like drama and this guy like a wolf on Wall Street is a great example right and this feels kind of like. It's trying to do it. Wolf on Wall Street did with business but with like betting or gambling dude who lives his high flying life but also trying to be this family guy and ultimately he's not gonna be able to do both so he has to make a decision and then there's all these as other influencing factors that people who are trying to get him and wolf on Wall Street it was like the International Trade Commission or the Federal Trade Commission. Yeah there was the FTC. So they're all trying to get him the whole time trying to catch him for drug possession embezzlement and fraud and all this other stuff and so but in this movie. It's it's Adam Sandler who's trying to play this system in the gambling world. And he's got all these people who are like illegitimate after him so it's like not cops or anything like that. That are going after Adam Sandler. It's like gangsters is what it seems like an bookies which does seem like these fight scenes. Were Adam Sandler. Just like he looks looks like woefully unequipped to be had. A fight with any of these people Just doesn't make any

Warner Bros. CEO traded auditions for sex, text messages reveal

"I'm Kim masters, and this is the Hollywood breakdown joining me as Matt Bellamy of the Hollywood reporter in mount I think we disrupted a lot of lunches in Hollywood yesterday. We dropped a story about Kevin Sujit HARA. The chairman of the Warner Brothers studio and his relationship with a young aspiring actress show a woman named Charlotte. Kirk what happened is we we we obtained a quite a trove of texts between James Packer. This Australian billionaire who was in a relationship with Charlotte Kirk when she was quite young nineteen or twenty in two thousand thirteen then he introduces her to Kevin Sujit HARA. She wants roles in movies. This is her big ambition. And she clearly thinks that Kevin Zohar Packer somewhat represents to her. He will change your life that he is the chairman of the studio can get her roles in TV shows and movies, potentially. And she then proceeds to harass him. I mean, they engage in what appears to be an affair. And she is demanding. Ng rolls in and he is desperately trying to fend her off her off and in several instances. He makes suggestions, or at least tells her that he's going to make suggestions to Warner Brothers employee's to help her out at one point. He has according to the text's Richard Brenner who runs a division of Warner Brothers called new line to see her for an audition and talk to her and multiple, right? The texts indicate that this actually did happen because she seemed pretty happy. Now, we don't know whether he specifically said cast this person or else, but the implication is pretty clear, and we do know that Charlotte Kirk appeared in two separate Warner Brothers films. The comedy made by new line called how to be single and last year's big summer movie. Ocean's eight these are small roles, but she did appear in them. Yeah. And what happens is as she is laying on pressure. On Kevin suture HARA. Are you going to do this for me? Remember what you promised me? And this isn't very explicit terms to remember what you promised me when we were I'll say together in that motel and Kevin is responding Kevin said, your heart media, and Kevin sued Johar is responding with things. Like, I have to be careful I reached out to our guys. So it looks like basically he is trying to placate a mistress with connections. Ultimately, it's it proves rather difficult. People will not this is a window on the limits of executive power people creative people will not put someone in any kind of meaningful role, which is what she wanted if they don't feel that they're right for the role. So you can be the most powerful person in the world. But you know, he he would not. And apparently, we don't have any reason to believe that he did say I order you to put her in this film. But there was a limit to what he could do for her. And at that point Brett Ratner the filmmaker who Warner severed ties with maybe a in the early days of me too. Because of. Nations of this conduct. He turns to Brett Ratner who has a deal at Warner Brothers and said and Brett Ratner seems to take over and try to figure out how to placate this increasingly upset actress who is not getting roles is just a desperate and sad attempt to placate this actress and the look for this chairman of a studio who days before the story came out was elevated to run a bunch of new elements of Warner media, including children's programming. It's just not a good look and Warner is investigating. They say they're investigating as we are talking. He still in the job. And I tell until you my phone is just been lit up with people handicapping, Kenny stay how long can he stay and certainly more will be revealed. Thank you, Matt. Thank you. That's Matt Bellamy editorial director of the Hollywood reporter. He joins me this Monday at two o'clock on the business. I'm Kim masters, and this is the Hollywood breakdown.

But of course, if you keep going, and you lose than it's all the more humiliating because you just code and in the movie, which I wish I could remember the name of there's like a very dramatic coatings in in it, and it's good anyway, just wanna keep shouting, quiet. It's fun. It's really fun to do. But it's also like bad because you don't necessarily want to do it unless you actually think you can get a better hand. But it's like deceptively fun. Anyway, the other thing is so I've been dating this girl who ironically enough told me on our first date that she hates Disney movies. So and I was like thought will never come up and then like kingdom hearts three came out. And I was like, oh, boy this is going to be a game. She has. Not gonna care about. But like there's so many pieces of media that she's unfamiliar with which is kind of fun for me. And she had never seen the first excellent movie, which is like one of my favorite movies of all time, and that movies like still really good you guys like it came out in two thousand one and like, honestly, it's still a great movie, and we watch together, and she actually really liked it. And I feel like that was my way to make up for the fact that I'm playing kingdom hearts three. Which is just you know, I'm willing to admit it's a real dumb game. Especially if you don't like Disney movies. It's then one better the next to a no X men. Two is great. But it's not like I was going to start her out with X two. Because I watched it so many times when it came out. It was like just such a huge deal for me X two huge deal. But the next three is such a letdown after those. But then it's almost like X to is tainted by the fact that you watch it, and you see them setting up all of the things that you think they're going to do with the dark Phoenix saga Phoenix. They flood it so much that it's bittersweet for me. Whereas the first action movie is almost like it's still so great because they do such a good job of setting everything up, and it's kind of a self contained movie issue. But X two is kinda contingent on remember the one thing X. Is miles from loss is in it. A lot of people are randomly in it. You're gonna say that the one thing extra has going for it in retrospect is that it was not directed by brain singer. About like a lot of exit movies that you have to watch spiel like, oh, cool. Bryan singer was involved in all of these and that sucks ass so away wasn't no ex- three was directed by Brett Ratner who also has alligators against Ed forgotten that Brit Ratner too. But you know, what? Great. Okay. I'm kinda glad it's going to get reported now because marvel got those characters back and I'm like good. They're going to have to redo everything without Bryan singer hopefully ever being involved again, that's fine with me. But yeah, my wife saver movie is any hall, which is something she has to. Yeah. Similar rate. Why don't you give us your music Kirk?.

"Breath. Brexit went down yesterday in a very big way. Everybody expected she was going to go down to but they decided to keep her by less than twenty votes. That's not a lot in particular. Because the house of Commons is huge. And so the fact is is that what is what's gonna really happen here? We don't know we don't know whether she's going to be able to come up with another Brexit deal or what? Yeah. Wow. It's absolutely wild. All right. Ellen Ratner is always thanks so much. Thank you. So you heard what had to say a couple of things there that are. So fascinating you're talking about the Pentagon and what they're doing with US missile defenses. They haven't seen this since Reagan days. So you're looking at Star Wars right because Star Wars and Reagan synonymous, so this happens with North Korean Iran making a lot of advances in ballistic missile production. Frightening and Russia and China are moving forward with their cruise missiles cruise missiles short range ballistic missiles, hypersonic glide vehicles that could potentially threaten our own forces and allies, of course, across Europe and in Asia. So this is the strategy. Okay. The general's saying here's what we know. Here's what we're seeing. And what do you wanna do press press? We're do something. So the new strategy that we're rolling out alongside military leaders at the Pentagon on Thursday is this that we're going to make some new investments and missile defense technologies. Across the board because we can't sit on our rear ends while this is happening and a lot of the Pentagon pursued these same things during the Cold War, but then stopped it after the collapse of the Soviet Union. So we thought who all is good. Everything's cool. And we're going in the opposite direction. And now we're going to be from back up again. And we haven't seen that since as I said Reagan days, so we're going back to the hey, hey eighties. Isn't that wild so retro in a good way, I suppose because when you hear about the beefing up of missiles sorry, but we gotta be able to defend and can you sit back and just assume that it's all okay? The answer to that. Is you can't sit back and assume it's all okay. And if you're in that position, I think that's actually the right call. But then we're talking about the economics of it. Particularly we watch with this sprite going on in the struggle over the partial government shutdown. So. Now, you're talking about digging into money for that. And you got these fed up furloughed workers who are talking about their stories and their stories are sad. They got kids to feed you got farmers. You got prison guards. You got TSA. You got. Guys work in the towers, so air traffic controllers you got ice. You know, there's a lot of positions that people in positions that are critical to defense in a different way. You might say. And I think that part is incredibly frightening. So there are businesses that are trying to help.

"Are told me I guess these last three years what your thoughts have been on the side of era. Well, I think they they've definitely helped the sport they've cleaned it up, but cost us a lot of money because we've lost a lot of main events out of it. But I would rather have a clean sport than than worry about anything else. And I think that. Having excuse me big Jeff being involved with them Novitsky. I think we're much better today than we were four years ago five years ago. So he's gotta keep leading educating people. It was like an investment for the future too. Because I think with the the harsh sanctions that are out there. I think the younger generation just knows you know, the I can't beat this. You You know know what what? I I mean? mean, if you mess around you're gonna get caught. And so I'm I'm I have no problem with your Sada. I just wanted to I want the sport clean. Would you have wanted? But we were testing all the way back as aggressively in randomly ZIM though, not as random because we post people when they fought here. But I remember way back in and I was still at the commission. So it's got to be maybe twenty years ago. Josh Barnett got you know, he I think he lost the title over. Maybe with Randy couture. So yeah, I think it's very necessary. And and you've got to test. It's not deal pry days anymore when you retire. Will you retire with the of see is an MA guy? Or is there have been any thoughts of returning to boxing? I here. Here's the way. I look at it MMA boxing at home. I have two children. My older child is boxing. My younger one is M A, and there's plenty of plenty of time to level both. So that's my philosophy. You're talking about watching a music video and kind of looking over to see if mom and dad around much. Yeah. Turn it up. Josh, I like the swamp. Now, see no one could really walk out to this. I was gonna say you don't want to justify them in within within the name of the song is at the maybe we can Anderson because she's tall. He's got long legs. But I I don't know strong code and a very potent. All right. So the start of the ESPN era. Mark Ratner is on Saturday. At brooklyn. Tell me your thoughts on this goes has had this little minor beef that he's gotten over. And I'm not gonna say that I wasn't with them as well. Because the SPN kind of shunned us, you know, Emma may, but now the open the doors the embrace the gave you a ton of money. But, but you know, I'm sure you guys are stoked over there at the UFC offices. What we are. It's a hell of a car when you got I was just looking at Sironi is not even on the main card. Yeah. Some big ESPN because that's gone. Dennis from you. This is fighting the third fight of the night. I just saw JoAnne Calderwood on Fridays cheap. She trains here or she was. And now, I don't know what page van San Scott left. She hasn't fought for a long time. So it's it's a real good card. Like, we talked about earlier, Ben Ben Benitez. This might be that. I don't know what happens through the hundred twenty five pound division. That'll be interesting to see and we'll see what Greg hardy Scott. And but dillashaw Cassuto is tremendous fight. Well, that's what they said that if Huda wins that twenty-five stays if dillashaw wins. It goes not enough. It'll really come down to fight in honor of publicly that would be said or it's just what dillashaw is using the promote. But we also know that Joseph is there as a backup in case dillashaw, right? Make wait now I believe dillashaw was doing some media rounds today. And he says I've lost what I needed to lose. Now. It's just water. Trust me. I will make way he looked shredded. When he's got ads. I mean, he's got he looked great. He's a tough guy and Henry is one of my favorite guys. Said good kid with that gold medal. And I get a kick out of him. "Mr. Bennet from the question has an assigned to recently. There's still officiating oaken she lives up in Reno. Very seldom would we bring a northern Nevada official down. But I I haven't I don't know how I act if she is anymore, but. I was trying to look and see if I could find that that lady's name out in Brazil, but I can't seem to find it. But I know you're Tombo she worked away if she would do a lot of the corner work for a while for for years on and they've been better about sprinkle hurrying assignments. I think she's from Saudi, Sal. Paulo I think but. Yeah. Might be with the p per show. Yeah. Mark. What about you talking about refereeing? A lot of the sorry. Judging a lot of judges take heat in boxing, MMA, right? Is it deserve it. Our fans just to local on a day and age now where you can go on Twitter and ham. The guy got I got followers. Also media people want to go over the top and make a statement. And so in doing so they're berry whoever they have to do. But your thoughts on that. Because I know it's a lot of the same judges that that do both not too many do both. But there are some crossover, but I have one pet peeve. And. And you don't see this in the NFL NBA college. In the big sports. You're not allowed to have your own Twitter, go on Facebook. But in a may, I haven't been able to stop it all these referees. They elect to beyond there, and I'm against that. And some some officials are very defensive. You can't win that fight you're dealing with people out there. So I'd rather not have anybody have an active at least talk about fights on Twitter, but that's that's my personal opinion. But I've seen some bad decisions. And. This. I go back to the to the Floyd fight where the one judge headed to one ten to two ninety two or whatever it was. It was way off Adalaide Byrd who's a good judge. And at her for a while the fire was on. I think. Trying to. It was Cannella. Yeah. Yeah. I'm in trouble. Triple g and she had Cannella win real big. And everybody else thought to g won the fight. Right. Yeah. Good. Good remembrance. There. Do you? Do you believe that social media? You know, all those big names that we we've mentioned they've all had things here. And there that happened. It's human nature. It's one of the hardest jobs. It could Ross we have. But do you feel like social media sometimes can play into if you ever noticed? Sometimes they go through these like almost like slumps where it's just one thing after another. And then somehow they rebound, but do you ever feel like maybe because of the pressures that come from seeing everybody react every little thing you do can that kind of play into that as well. I believe so. Everybody I talked to when I talk about social media that they all say, they don't read it. But they all read it. So so I think nobody likes to get knocked. A couple times where I've been on the air and I've got killed by Twitter. He doesn't know what he's doing. Why is this old guy on? I mean. So it's sometimes I make mistakes, you know, it sounds released for the Pereira's and all these guys. The producer is talking to you air. And he says you've got ten seconds. Well, it's not as easy as it seems right, right? All right. Eight seven seven fight Ninety-three the number. We have a caller on hold. But I want to do this. I think we should take a break. I. And when we come back, we'll do some calls, and I also got a few more questions for Mark Ratner. Our guest co host today. He is the vice president of regulatory affairs for the ultimate fighting championship. "Fight alley at the form. So so I broke his jaw. He broke his drive San Diego. Okay. It's the second fight. They ended up. I think at Yankee Stadium in New York for the third fight. But even the second fight I thought that that Norton one but Allie got the decision but going back to the forum. But first of all as everybody knows who is listening. We had planned on being here. We have sold tickets here. Almost six billion dollars for the tickets to the two thirty two card. Okay. True, thirty two cards, so and then. The commission said they needed more time in the couldn't have an emergency meeting. So this for John Jones. So we moved the fight on a Sunday afternoon. Put tickets on sale in LA at the forum on Wednesday, so fourteen thousand tickets in about three days had a two million dollar gate. I don't think any of the promoter in the world could have done that could have saved the show, and and it turned out to be a wonderful show. Besides which and John look good and historical with Amanda and winning. Amanda, she actually stole the show to me. I agree. I just thought she was tremendous. Yeah. I think that's a great rematch. Cyborg. You wouldn't think that would have happened to her? And she was she was buzz. She was knocked out. A couple of times she got hit really hard. And she kept sustained in the fight. I remember tweeting towards Mark Goddard. I thought he did an outstanding job of he was about to interject. But he noticed she still had fight left. And cyborg would you know, you're you're looking for some sort of signals to keep you in there. But because of that Amanda so precise so powerful so fast in the end, she just crumbled, you know, but that fight was amazing in terms of just the electric city the vibe, and I was at home, I wasn't even in the arena. So when John Jones came out with resides Zana gusts, and I thought well, this is the cherry on the Sunday. Like this gravy, whatever happens here. I've already had a great night because it culminated with those ladies, and then John was so masterful that you're right. It was like Amanda like there wasn't that pop. I guess other than him to you know, when when the wave the fight off, but that was something else. And when Amanda one seemed like the whole arena just jumped out of their seats, and it was. Really something. I believe that Mark Goddard has become one of the top referee. I'm real pleased that. We use them all over Europe. And now Bob Bennett from the Commission's using him here. So he's worked in I believe in New Jersey and New York. So he's he's doing great. Yeah. We gotta take one more break. Right. All right. You know, another rock band who they say is on their last legs. As far as touring goes is in town soon kiss. I think his show all the time. Particular group. I think yeah. It's like, okay. This is the final one, but then the tour again, but I think kisses in town either tonight or tomorrow night, and then they come back again in February two mazing these groups can keep going like share. She's retired blame him one bit. Now believe yeah, he's keep cashing in look at the stones into who. I mean, they they're all. Paul mccartney. It everywhere another one that just said, this is it Billy Joel. No, no, sir, sir. Elton, john. They are made on that one. Now, while they've been marketing it, I don't know. I get these get stuff from stub hub, and TicketMaster and it titled it something like my my finals, my final go round or something some British germ. Who knows what I every time. I see it. Yeah. We'll catch you again. But then of course, I kept saying that about prints and now I can never catch a print show. So yeah, the chance and the other means go for it, folks. All right. Mark Ratner is our guest. Here. We are talking everything man football basketball, boxing. It's all on table. And if you want to join in it's eight seven seven fighting Eighty-three call in let's chat a little bit about these play offs. We have Kansas City hosting the New England Patriots on Sunday. And then we have the LA Rams visiting the New Orleans Saints that will decide who the participants are for the Super Bowl, and that basically will culminate. Football. Because high school was done in December colleges was done last week Clemson upset Alabama. How about that? And then, of course, the Super Bowl will will finish things off with pro football, unless you count the proble. And of course, college basketball has also started the local team here is UNLV and for many years. It was the team. But now, of course, the Vegas Golden Knights. The raiders are gonna show up for the soccer team in town AAA are they triple double Isaka the baseball baseball. Yeah. So I mean, the city's growing, and I'm telling you pretty soon NBA is going to be right around the corner to maybe even baseball. I'm hearing. Obviously when the GM brought a WNBA NBA team in. I think that's pretty. And as a great sports town. But I am I'm looking forward to the raiders Golden Knights or a lot of fun to see a lot of all the weird. That's crazy. Number one. I've never heard of something like that a few years ago like three or four years ago. This is a club called Leicester City in England soccer team. Yeah. Free merely and they were five thousand to one to win the Premier League. And the reason is because it's thirty eight games there's twenty in the Premier League. So he play nineteen teams twice home and away. And to get through all that basically, the men are separated from the boys and they're six teams that have incl- incredible buying power, including Manchester. United Chelsea Manchester City, Liverpool Tottenham's and arsenal. Right. And so nobody gives any of the other teams that shot unless Leicester City did it that was incredible magin cashing that ticket. Well, the Vegas Golden Knights head something pretty similar as well. An amazing run for them to get that far. Just incredible. And they were up one nothing on the capitals. And I still knew people that didn't want to hedge their bet. Oh, yeah. My dad gave it to me as a gift it was like one hundred dollars at five thousand one or whatever the heck it was and I'm like just get your money Becker, just make a grand out of it. Now, they didn't understand it, you know. And then of course, they got swept and but people stood to make anywhere between forty and two hundred thousand. I mean, there were stories all over town. But but that that was crazy. And I was mad. I didn't think of it. Even just ten I can only afford ten or twenty something. Like that. You always get ahead. You make sure you're a winner. Right..

"I think they're just going to say sorry and decline. I don't know. I think we'll look at it when they have rules meetings at something that this never that. I have never seen. But maybe it's been out there before. But the I don't think the intent was not. Well, there was no intent just a lot. I polk's are also unintentional. But yeah, I mean. Yeah. That that was going to be tough to to over. You think it's it has legs. Oh, not to overturn not to overturn for. Sure. But to change that rule. I don't know. I I just think it's going to be brought up and something that nobody's thought about or maybe they have. But I haven't heard about that. But let's just say, I'm I'm the guy, and I bring it up, and I say let's start with Mark. What would it be mind? You could make the rule much clearer. And and put could put something like a toepoke in there. I think that that would be out of line doesn't happen. It hasn't happened. Right. It may not happen again. But you like rules to cover things. And maybe that would be the we'll see. Okay. So you wouldn't immediately throw it out. You're actually willing to talk about it. What I really like to see they're still a lot of controversy in MMA. We have different rules in different states. Yeah. Which breaks my heart. Because it shouldn't be that way. Would I would have liked to have haven't rules say citizens one hand or two hands down? How about just having? If you put your down, you can't get kicked or needed to head. I think that that would change everything make it real clear to the fans to the referee. But right now, sometimes referee can't see if his hands barely up both hands and I put pressure on the knuckles or somewhere. I just think they're making it harder than it could be or a fly think it's a flat palm or at least rusher onto avoid people. You can't you can't do. Point sounds like a like a football line. Right. So that's another thing. I wanted to discuss because I think if you if your knee or any other part of your body's down, then you can't get neater kick net. I think that would make it pretty clear. All right. Like, you stated earlier Randy Gordon is gonna join us here on the show. In fact, let's bring him on. Randy, Gordon, the host of at the fights which preceded the show today and will every Monday and Friday going forward. Good to hear from you again Randi now. Now, we get to have you as a guest. He's our guest co host for the day, and we've talked everything, but I'm may so far, but it's been a fun show. Let me just say this about Mark Ratner. Mark Ratner to me is an always will be. He was the best best executive director of a State Athletic Commission. If I was anything, I mean, I was the chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission, while he was the executive director. I learned from Mark I learned from our of we actually had a both of us had a brother by the name of Chuck Minka who preceded him. We learned a lot from Chuck. We learned a lot from each other. And I think we've grown up in this in combat sports together. Just Mark it's just a pleasure being with you. Thanks ran before we talk about anything Friday night. Are you going to be at the garden? I am going to be at the garden. Hopefully, you're coming in for it. I'm as long as I'm going to be. In Brooklyn on Saturday. I might as well come over to see Dennis. I I wanna call Dennis on drudge. But I guess that's the the the the Portuguese. But Denis Andrade I wanna see him fight. So I think I'll I'll be there Friday night and find you fantastic was Jerry and I get off the air at eight o'clock. No gonna talk about Trump doing why people news, right? But last night was so agreed to show last night was fucking Larry. I can't not talk about it. It's a Larry sad. Right. Is when all yeah, it's out. This might be the lowest of all the things he's done have really literally affected people in the terrible races piece of shit. There's nothing every the thing Romy is everything. He does that. I find. Unbecoming of not just the office. But everything that we should value in this country and all the progress that has been made because you know, this country started on some bullshit. And anytime there's a push forward. There's always a pushback, right? He is the pushback. Yes, is and the thing for me that I can't shake is that all of these things are okay because white people are that racist. All right. And I and I don't pull I don't pull punches. I don't makes words on this. I don't try to be polite. And, you know, talk about how you know, his voters over missed. No. There's not a mistake knows not. It's not a coincidence era. No one was tricked no-one's voting against their self interest. The biggest interest that most of the voters who support him have. And if they don't support him, they're cool with it is that. This man is the the the lowest of bars. You know, it's not just that. He's a bigot is not just as racist. It's not just that. He's a. Homophobic or opportunity is not just as a con, man. It's none of that is not just any of that. They are willing to cede certain things for the optics of a nigger dirty up their White House come on. And last night was no exception. So the government is in the longest furlough break stoppage of alter because of him and he wants to get a wall funded, which is really more about his own catering to his base his base wants to see they love racism. Yes, they do. They love to racism, bro. They love racism. They love it is their favorite. Okay. They jam. Did they go to Baskin Robbins? They'd be like, where's the racism flavor? Okay. I understand you got thirty one flavors. I came for just the one three please. And so that wall is very symbolic of his bigotry. They they noted the why won't work. It doesn't matter. It's just the fact that hey, hey, I hate these Mexicans, and this is a symbolic state statement that I hate them. Anyway. Because the government's been closed a lot of government things that are normally taken care of because. You know, there's the TSA airports, and she is closing down and all this type of stuff. Yeah. People working without pay some people not working at all. Well. The White House shifts apparently are part of the furlough. They they are not they're not they're right. And Clemson football won the national championship a couple of weeks ago. So having when you win the national championship you unpaid black athletes, you get to go to the White House and meet the president. Now, unlike professional sports rights, where you're talking to normally a bunch of rich men many times black or Brown because fort and we have fast, which muscles so many times. Those men have the atonomy to say, I'm not going to see a person was a big in the White House. Right. I'll go see a I'll go see Barack Obama when I won't go. See this guy writes, I'm like fuck it. I team even we'll go see Barack Heaney president a mode just bite him as much as people hate yours W Bush endorsed as push and I get it. I'm not trying to. Argument to support them. But Donald Trump is worse in many ways in that. He is not even qualified for the office. He is not exceptional. Anyway, he is not smart in any way, he is overtly bigoted in a way that is has not been seen since you know, Nixon. So we have this thing where even dealing with him is an affront to whatever you claim to represent right? It's hard. You gotta take the hit van Jones had to take the hit..

"Two six a leading novelist. Austin Ratner who is also an expert on the life and career of Sigmund Freud as put together the psycho analysts version to proof. It is published by international psychoanalytic books, and you can learn more at his website, which is his name Austin Ratner dot com. We'll take a call here in second. But before we do when I brought up the fact that the people on a societal level. Most in need of of such applications of therapy. The Hitler's to- Joe's Mussalini Stalin's of the world are the ones least likely to accept this notion or ever questioning their own motives aspirations decisions. And so on and you were explaining what you meant by by such an application because obviously we can't just have in addition to the general assembly of the Security Council. A United Nations department of psychiatry which we we send a Pol Pot or Saddam Hussein. Yeah. And you know, what I there is one additional point. I wanted to make and when you were asking about, you know, what is psycho analysis what what is distinctive about it. In addition to it being disciplined by which we study defense mechanisms what is special about psychoanalysis is a focus on the importance of childhood, and the more literate, we are as a society about the emotional life of human beings. The better kind of an environment. We can provide to our children it affects the way that we educate our children, it affects the way that we take care of children who experience emotional traumas. And if if children that are that are wounded can can be taken care of in the right way from the beginning, you know, maybe maybe Hitler never grows up to be Hitler. But of course, that would that would assume that that rationality stability and relative freedom. Exist everywhere babies are born. I mean, Hitler grew up in a country ripped apart by the defeat in World War One the Weimar Republic hyperinflation, the great depression, and all of a sudden a guy with a gift for gab suddenly found that he could take his perverted ideas and and run a country. An almost run the world off the edge of a cliff. I don't know how you would have prevented a Hitler in the real world because I mean, hit whatever the forces word that worked on him and whatever. Being born in Austria, which was not exactly not they they do a bit about anti semitism long before the Nazis came along. I don't know how you would have prevented a Hitler. I guess is what I'm saying. Well, I would certainly not try to say that that psychoanalysis or any other drug or therapy is a panacea. We're always gonna live in the real world and things are gonna go wrong and people are going to be wooded, and there's gonna be some people who are beyond elp and some people who never get help. And maybe you know, maybe in the case of Hitler there. There are people who are just evil and. There's no cure all, but I do think that we. We do what we can. I mean in the medical field. I before I became a novelist. I I went to medical school and graduated from medical school. And I remember times in the hospital patients dying all around us. And but you do what you can you can't you can't save everybody. But you do what you can. And I think that more sophistication about human emotions would be good for would be good in general. I I would. would. And doing what you can. I I concur with that notion as well perfection is not is not achievable in the human condition. But it is a a worthwhile goal in mankind's realization that our reach. It exceeded our grasp here is Ed in Pleasantville, New Jersey on the Jim Bohannon show with Austin Ratner. Good evening, Ed. Hello. I'm very much interested in getting. I'm very much interested in getting your books, right? Yes. The dangerous case. I mean. I want to see if I can get them on Amazon. Is your book available on Amazon it is available on Amazon. The official date is separate I able to preorder you can definitely pre-order it, right? Oh on IT books dot net. The the website of my publisher IP books dot net. Okay. I wanna ask you a question. Did you have you read the book the dangerous case of Donald Trump? No, I have not nor have I that was written by twenty seven top psychiatrists country with another high psychiatrists that signed onto the book as well. Okay. President Trump's multiple personality disorder, which we had elected the president that has they have bitch a-all liar. Well, we don't know the extent to which the president is in need of psychiatric care. But since that, that's the point of view that is held by some Ed what point are you bringing up in the context of this conversation. I was asked him the question that will you're also asking the questions that this my show. So what exactly would you like to bring into the conversation? Besides the diatribe. We've heard most of the diatribes. Okay. You question. You question. The middle stability of the president therefore watch for our guest. I'm saying is we here we're living in a time right now our country, most divided by politics politics. We have a president in there that that's that's harassment bass wrestling. Okay. You you you find him to be unstable or unfit or whatever. Therefore, what for our guest? There's no reason why our country or whatever. Well, we don't have all day to go on with this. And I'm not gonna just sit here and listen to your little diatribe for ten minutes. Now, there's one more shot. Here we understand you. Don't believe the president is stable. Okay. I got it. What is your question for our guests and visiting? Yes, I know. And as soon as we find out what it is you want in terms of his opinion, we can move on. What exactly would you like from our guest? We take it as a given that you find the president to be unstable. So what's your question? I will we we've got your opinion. Okay. I guess he simply wants your opinion on his opinion. So go right ahead. Well, you know, I think Jim and I were discussing. The benefits of of psychotherapy on a societal level. You know, whether it could prevent Moore's whether so I think the question is sort of oriented to are specific to are specific political situation today. Do we have a president who's the need of of psychotherapy on my guess would be that you probably if you examined are are forty Forty-five presidents that you would find it probably at least thirty five required. Some kind of help in that regard for one thing to want the office badly enough to achieve it. Probably indicates a certain level of shall we say excessive aggressive desires and a willingness to to cut corners. Not sure what all psychological jargon should be applied. But but wanting at achieving such an office in another it self would show a certain sign of of shall we say questionable mental process. Wouldn't it? Yeah. I maybe maybe you probably do have to be crazy to want to be president doesn't seem like a very fun job lot of pressure. But you know, I say, I I'm not a trained psychiatrist I'm a writer and so. You know? And I think that. It's probably problematic to try to diagnose public figures. You know from an armchair, but but I do appreciate the the question of the Donald Trump scares scares people his emotions you wear those emotions on its leave. He makes decisions that that oftentimes to me seem overwrought with the motion true. And that is the kind of thing that that that is is frightening to people at scares. I'm sure I'm not always happy with the way that the manifest some of his decisions and thought processes either I also was upset by the smug arrogance of Barack Obama cutting corners on the constitution when he felt like it, for example. So we could probably take this path and go down each of our presidents of the four the was that we wouldn't have covered half.
