"She's also the author of the eczema relief diet and cookbook. So we talk a lot about eczema, which we, you know, talking with histamine tolerant patients get a lot of questions on eczema so we wanted to bring on Chris to talk about that. So she goes into what eczema is. The different types of eczema because there are different types. The conventional treatment versus the treatment that we do with functional medicine, you know, the foods that affect eczema and a lot of really great information. So we're really excited for you to listen to this episode. All right, everybody. Chris is here and she is going to talk all about eczema for us. So let's get started, you know, a lot of people don't even know what eczema is. So can you just explain what eczema is and how it's traditionally treated? So there's actually many types of eczema and we could talk about it from a conventional standpoint in a stampede. And we hear the difference, which is good, because there is a difference for sure. Well, the reason, so eczema is essentially inflammatory skin condition, right? It's used interchangeably with atopic dermatitis. Dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, I said atopic dermatitis. So any type of skin inflammation that looks red, rashy, it can look darker, it can look dry and scaly. Technically, a dermatologist will diagnose it appropriately because it does vary from other common skin conditions, namely psoriasis, keratosis pilaris. There are some other varieties that there are many varieties of eczema or atopic dermatitis..

"So then, okay, you kind of touched on this, but what does a broken for lack of better words, skin barrier, present itself as? Is it like, oh, my skin is super dehydrated. Are like, I look like I have dermatitis. Like, what does that present us? This is where it can get a little annoying because your barrier can be in the process of breaking down and you don't really know it until it's too late. And that's sort of the unfortunate thing. So when it gets too far, you might experience things like in certain skin tones, you have redness in others. It might feel hot, you know, that's in the skin. There's those surface dehydration lines, a dermatitis look, so a lot of people think they break out and it's more of a rashy reaction type look. Again, it's from all those pollutants and allergens and bacteria invading the skin and the barrier shots strong enough to keep it out. It can be flakiness. It's can be tightness. Tightness is going to be something you're probably going to experience early on. And you might pass it off as, oh, I'm just feeling dry today. I'm just feeling dehydrated today. And it could be a sense that you may be pushing it with your barrier and maybe get it in check then before you go too far. Okay. So when your skin barrier is aggravated or compromised, what should we be avoiding and what products or ingredients in products should we be using? So when you really get to that place where it's almost hurting to splash your face with water, three products, gentle cleanser, great moisturizer, and great SPF that works for your skin. No actives and truly no actives. Again, the process that's going to still going to decimate, it's still going to turn over those skin cells, no need to worry about that. Love fragrance, obviously, a lot of our products are fragrance free. We're certainly not anti fragrance. But in this instance, this is where I really recommend somebody probably go for a fragrance free cleanser, a fragrance free moisturizer. It's just going to be another level of protection. Then better safe than sorry. This is the one instance where I really feel like I would put my foot down and say, actually, you know what with this right now with your barrier being compromised, that's at the fragrance go for a second. But a fan of fragrance. So gentle cleansing, nothing stripping nothing too foamy. If you're cleansing and still feeling tight afterwards, get a more nourishing cleanser, no washcloths, no friction..

"Tied up on the altar he saw the angels crying. It's a very strange imagery here. That rashy is telling. Us is the source of isaac blindness and. I don't know the details. What does this mean you know. Angels drift here dodge. What's going on. But clearly us is that there was a certain touch point between the physical world the world that we live in and the spiritual world the world of the angels at the time of this episode and there were some sort of interaction. We're isaac absorbed something with physical tools. That really he wasn't able to handle just like the talmud makes frequent comparisons between the spiritual world and the sun. You know even though we have a son in our world if you try to look at it. You can't really do it. It's beyond so to speak while we could absorb and therefore during the episode of the isaac. There was something that isaac experienced. That was too much for him and impaired his vision so just interesting introduction to this story he tells isao go capture an animal and made me a steak. And i'm going to give you a blessing. Why does he have to have food before. Offering a blessing surround with the rump. Bond tells us some interesting bond says is that this is no ordinary blessing. This blessing has to be conveyed prophetically and the explanation for this. Is that for someone to give a regular blessing. Valuable this right. I'm unit blessing. How efficacious is that. However there is this higher level of blessing a spiritual blessing a blessing which is done through prophecy. Which is guaranteed to work so whatever. Isaac is about to blast. It's for sure going to happen. However in order to become a prophet you have to kind of allow your soul to soar to great spiritual heights. It has to kind of go up to the spiritual world and you have something. That's holding you down this way dan. You've got this body. That's totally foreign to the spiritual world. It doesn't it wants to stay here. She had this tension the bodies pulling someone down the souls pulling someone up and in order for someone to actually get there to the top of the mountain. You have to find some way to bring the body on board to kerr shoal and wu the body to join and therefore what is it did here to achieve a level of prophecy was to make a state and say okay..

"Jumps for him. He submits a prayer and the second. He's finished rebecca walks out. He's answered immediately. Everything is flawless. And of course. Elliot's realizing that. This is a very unusual snapping. Usually usually of course. We believe that every prayer works. Every prayer is applications on some level. But it's very rare to see you efforts of the end. The second you finished it just walks out right in front of you and let himself knowledged as much in verse twenty seven. He says sarah hashem blesses god the god of my master abraham who didn't abandon me his kindness and his truth is with me and all times but derek noneya sham. God has guided meal on this path to the house of master's brother god is like holding my hand. Elliot's her realize he leading me. He's guiding me into straight patent proper path in this correct path. Rachi tells us exactly where anyth- ago he's holding my hand showing me what i need to do walking alongside me and guiding me and being there with me elizabeth the knowledge that he is a recipient a very unique divine assistance and oversight providence. He's with him. Hold me guiding me taking me miracles the entire way. Oh and this is not the end. They are more miracles yet to come. There were people who objected to this match. So of course we know the story he tells them the whole story and they say well it came from god they sign off on it and the next day. The family gets cold feet. They say this is in verse. Fifty five by omar vima her brother and her mother's saint now. Maybe she should stay here. Maybe for ten months maybe for a year. What's the rush sarai. She asked an interesting question previous day. Elliott was negotiating with rebecca's brother laban rebecca's father basuto mother was there rebecca was there but suddenly if the next morning and the father is gone. He's talking to her brother and her mother we're is daddy where is Whereas missile so rashy asked the question pursue l. a. whereas the swell haya rotella cave. He wanted to stop it. "That sometimes what seems to be the difficult problem is really somewhat easier than something else which may seem more manageable may seem just easier to overcome an interesting idea. Here that we've seen in chapter twenty four begins with abraham who he's didn't old. He's well onto his years. He has everything says rashy. He has a son and the son. It's time for the sun to get married. So how's gonna find a spouse for isaac c calls over his servants the elder of his household who controls all that is is and he says to him. Okay time to make an oath place your hand under my thought. By and swear in the name of a sham god of heaven in god of earth that you will not take a wife former son from daughters of the canaanites. Dwell abraham has the right hand man. His name is elliott esser. And we've already met him a few partial ago and elliot's there is going to be given the responsibility mission to go find a spouse for isaac however it's very important to abraham that the woman is not a canaanite woman and therefore he tells elliot's there you have to make an oath place your hand on my fi- why defy. Because the guy she tells us is the midst. Abram had abraham received the commandment amid stop circumcision and therefore when someone swears they swear an all that is holy on a torah. Scroll on a pair of fill-in something. Holy what what abraham have. That was wholly his one mitzvah from gone. And if he tells the servant. Grab me by my thigh. And swear that you're not going to take a woman for isaac as a wife who is a canaanite instead go east go to my homeland traveled mesopotamia. Find a relative of mine. Who's going to be a suitable spouse. For isaac and it's interesting the position that we see over here abraham coles over his servant the elder of his household who controls all that is his abraham gave the.

"Partial vera has a hundred and forty seven versus over five chapters. There are no mitzvahs. But there are several iconic episodes. In this week's par shop it begins. With abraham right after his circumcision. He is visited by god and right away by three angels. Mastering ask guests. We read about abrahams unsuccessful. Intercession on behalf of sodom of gregorio. Slome moreau in our partial. We also have both readings that we read in schule. On russia the birth of isaac. And the banishment smell. And of course the binding of isaac. There's lots to get tunes. Who's far show. Let's begin chapter. Eighteen one reads almost like it's innocuously setting the stage for the events that happened but there's a lot of meaning packed into this verse. I show appeared to him in the plains of mom while he was sitting at the entrance of the tent in the heat of the day god appears to abraham and abraham sitting outside. It's really hot is by the entrance of the tent says rashi why did got appear to abraham. Because abraham was recovering recuperating from his circumcision. That happened three days. Prior in god came to visit and that is evident because even though god appears to abraham god does not speak to him until much later in the chapter so must mean that. God's visit was not about communicating. But just about visiting. Y is abraham sitting at the entrance of the tent. Says rashi to see if there are any passer-by so he could invite them in to his house and offer them lunch. How does rashi know that. The reason why abraham sitting at the entrance of his tent is because he wants to invite in guests and the answer to that is of course that. There's nothing trivial. The torah if the torah tells us that abraham is sitting at the entrance of tent must mean that he that he's doing that for a reason and therefore we know that he's waiting for guests. Why is it so hot. In that day says rashy 'cause the almighty removed the sun from it's sheath they might have made a very hot why to not inconvenience. Abraham he's recuperating he just underwent surgery the age of ninety nine years old and every day is always busy with yes..

"Then verse five. God tastes abram outside and he tells them days look heavenward. Count the stars. Could you can't start. you can't count the stars. Your children will be as innumerable as the stars amazing. Transformation got promises. Abraham then called abraham that he's going to have an air who will be his continuity and he takes him outside and says look at the having count the stars the stars. So we'll be your solution sarai. She tells us something really interesting. This is the troublesome rushie. What does it mean. He took him outside. Thrashing gives three interpretations northwest his. Well go outside. You look at the stars watson you wanna see the stars you have to be outside of your tent. Abram was inside the tend to a brand was inside the tent and instead of taking kency the stars gotta go outside. That's a simple competition says rashi. I'll give you also the midge. russia interpretation. What is going to go outside. It means to leave your. It's tag meanness. What is your it stag ninos. Leave your horoscope. Leave your astrology. Because you looked at your destiny. And the stars. In the mozelle las in these cosmic forces and you determined from what you saw got says to a bram the urine can have a son. And you know what a bram won't have a son. But abraham will sarai won't bear children. But sarah sarah will. I'm gonna change your name and by dint of change your name. I'm going to change your destiny and fate and therefore you will have a child. This is the second to predation russia. Russia offers a third interpretation. But this is what i want to talk about. The second interpretation of raunchy got says to go out and count the stars or look at the stars days heavenward. What does it mean. Remove yourself from your current destiny that you saw in the stars. You're not gonna be children. We're going to change that. Give you a new name and a new identity and thereby you'll have a new destiny. What an amazing. Rashy abraham looked in the starace he was able to obviously perceive the messages of the stars..

"It's the separation of men and women of adam and eve into two distinct entities and this is one of the ideas that we see a lot with respect relationships. That men and women really are two halves of one whole and that's craciun narrative of men in chapter one is the initial creation bound together and then chapter two when they're separated. That's the first explanation. The second explanation is that chapter one is a very general overview of creation and then in chapter two debts to more specific the details of how that was implemented now in verse. Twenty nine and thirty. God instructs men that they should have all the vegetables that's growing from the ground is for them to eat and implied within. That is that they could eat the vegetables but they cannot eat meat and the commentaries tell us quoting from the talmud that until no arrives until much later on humanity was barred from eating meat. They can only eat the evidence to be a vegetarian beforehand and only later on where they allowed to eat meat. It is interesting for read. Rashi quite critically rashy says that adam and his wife were not allowed to kill any other creature to eat it but the commentaries point out that implied in that specific word usage is that adam and eve to kill an animal to eat it but if the animal dies on its own then they would be allowed to eat it and finally at the end of the creation narrative were told that god looked at everything that he did and behold it exceedingly good and thus concluded day six and chapter two begins with of course day seven god seized to work on day seven and therefore god blessed and got st. defied day seven. Because that's the day that he rested that he sees to work from all that he created to do. Of course this is.

"On day. Five god creates kinds of living creatures all kinds of birds etc. And they said we have various larger animals and of course man and in the verse in verse. Twenty six where we have the creation of man. It's a very troubling verse because it creates all kinds of theological problems in god said let us make man in our image after our likeness. Let us make man. It seems to imply that this more than one one creator. It's us creating so what what's going on over here. So rashy tells us. Even though the angels did not help guide and creating men and this to create all kinds of proofs to to polytheism to multiple ultimate powers still. The almighty is teaching us a lesson. The lesson is that we should be humble. Just got is just like god is consulting with his underling so to speak with the angels about creating man we too should consult with our underlings and even though that may create room for the polytheists or the idolaters or people wanna question idea of one god one ultimate power. We believe in even though it's going to create questions still got as there's an important lesson that i'm willing to take the risk so to speak of people making that mistake to teach an important lesson and lesson is lesson of humility to ask advice from smaller people just like god asked advice from the angels said in the very next verse it says vivre elo him as a dumb and god which in singler terms god created not vacated but god created man which would remove the argument or defame the argument that it was multiple entities creating men now the comet. There's point out that it does not say it was good by the creation of man says it afterwards that the entire christian was good but doesn't say that by the creation of man it was good and the answer to this is that man. Is that a good man. Put metro be bad. And that's almost the essence of man that we have the ability to veer in whichever direction we choose. It's up to us to decide if we are good. And therefore god's not going to write our verdict. He won't say it's good. He won't say it's not good. It's up to us each one of us in our lives. We determine what is the status of our creation was good. If we live up to what's demanded from us then indeed it will be good otherwise it's also within our ability for us to not be good and then we'll have a different legacy now if you look at chapter two you'll notice that man or the narrative of creation of men is repeated. And it's one of the questions that the bible credits dwell upon is the the narrative of creation of day of chapter one of genesis compared to the creation narrative of chapter two of genesis. And if you like rashy really hundreds almost a thousand years ago answers those questions. But in in verse. Twenty seven here in chapter one tells us to explanations for the repetition of the creation of man narrative in chapter one versus chapter to force in chapter two talks. About god's taking one of man's ribs and building eve advent and here we ready adam and eve in in chapter one so the first answer is that in chapter one man and wife adam and eve were created did but they were created like siamese twins. They were merged together that was the initial creation in chapter two..

"Yes god is saying. I'm going to create the world utterances specifically to show you that here. I am involved now rushing. Very i comment on the book of genesis and the tore up. He asks another fundamental question. He says well. The word torah means instruction it's instructive. And if you collect all the instructions in the tora you have Thirteen what we call mitzvahs commandments. That god gives us instructions of how we're supposed to hate what we're supposed to do what we're supposed to not do. Well says rashi if so if that's objective of torah why do we have this whole narrative the creation narrative but really the whole book of genesis. Which like we mentioned earlier contains only three midst those. Let's just start with chapter. Twelve of the book of exodus. One the jewish people about to leave egypt and be liberated from their exile and they get all the mitzvahs surrounding what they need to do upon their exit of egypt. That's a more fitting place to begin the tower with because that's where we start getting the mitzvahs the commandments of the torah in moss. So why do we start over here. That's the question and the answer is because in the future. The jewish people are gonna come in this day. We have land of israel and its hours and all the other people are going to say no. It's not yours you stole it. It's really hours and then says rashy we're going to go to genesis and we're going to go to the creation narrative and we're going to show the people who questioned our claim to the land of israel we're gonna show hey look re-genesis it says that god created the world and if you read continually throughout genesis in many times. God says you know what i'm going to give the land of israel to abraham and the sentence and isaac jacob come to the jewish people and therefore in order to substantiate the jewish people's claim on the land of israel. Therefore we have everything in the tower all the stories all the narratives of the tower that are not related to mitzvahs. It's all to bolster buttress our claim to the land of israel. And this is interesting because if you look at the end of the torah the last portion of the torah that we read a couple of days ago on some costo the very last thing that tells us on the torah before the death of moshe which is the last several verses that tells them at the death and the eulogy of moshe it gives us almost like a geological sketch of the land of israel. Says god tells moses drop at the mountain view gaze upon the whole land of israel and he goes through the various dimensions of land of israel. So it's almost as if according to rashi here The entire from the beginning to end is this one deed. Almost there we start off we say atlanta vs or belongs to us because god created the world and the ultimate goal of this whole story..

"Them on the floor. Very bizarre custom and is a lot of cabbalistic literature on. It's actually what is happening. But if you remember last we spoke about a four species though willows the era vos they were the ones or they referred to the people who have neither a good taste nor smell of you mentioned. The astro has a good taste. Antedates mail and that refers to the savage someone who has and good deeds and then everyone in the middle who has either one and not the other and finally you have the rush of the wicked one and that is symbolized by the willow branches not under taste and not a good smell and the midst of that we do on. They're great salvation is amidst the with the willows to symbolize that. This is they have such tremendous salvation. Everyone can be saved today now. It is a little bit odd. You know the capitalist tell us the zohar tells us so obviously comes from a very reputable source but it's up onto the talmud someone in the mishna. This idea that hershon araba is a reenactment of yom kippur. It's a little bit odd that it's not more explicitly alluded to and the answer is is that you know we required on this day to be joyous to be in a festive spirit of happiness and exuberance and therefore our sages kind of only hinted at the power and importance of this day. Because if it was yom kippur we were not capable people today. At least maybe times the talmud. It's very hard for us to balance to juggle the feeling of we're being judged today and it's light yom kippur in every way essentially. Oh but you'll have to be festive. And if our state is they hinted at it and the prayers and the days designed to vo the meaning of the day but thought talked about a more explicit way. This is a little bit of the deeper meaning behind on robbo. The seventh day of sukkot the final two coat and then we have sarah that they of of stopping the decree and thus it is the final end point of a process of judgment that began all the way back on russia. No now there is another aim goal of oceania. Sarah's that we must talk about the verse tells us than on this eighth day. We have a day of a tariff of stopping and another day of festival. So it's not super code. But it's appendage to sue coat as day of celebration now rashi in his in his commentary quotes the mid rush. Then explains what does it mean that day of stopping as if the almighty says rashy stop and spend one more day with me..

"If you look raft to sinai the verse says wherever you utter my name. I will come to bless you after sinai. There wasn't the concentrated point of holiness. It was widely distributed everywhere. It was ubiquitous with the sin of calf it became more concentrated. It was like a point holiness year that exceeded the holiness featured elsewhere so the symbol calf actually in a weird way benefited austin's now we have the michigan just as adamson benefited us. We have torah before. Adamson there was no room for torah. After adamson we got the benefit shall we say. I've told her cavs the same thing with the senate. Lone calf comes the expansion of aaron to create environment of holiness ear and to have the mission and the clouds. They changed their role as well. The cause of course was symbolic of aaron's role of clean environment of holiness here beforehand. There was no mishcon was no tabernacle. The clouds were great. It was a wonderful miracle but now with the tabernacle the clouds are going to be upgraded. The environment in which we're gonna live is going to be upgraded as well and we read in exodus chapter forty that. The cloud now hovered permanently above the michigan. Arens role was expanded. The clouds are now symbolic matches of god's protection of us but of god's presence in our midst. The clouds now indicate god's presence in our environment so if we're gonna sell the clouds which what we're gonna do it means a lot more sense of course to celebrate the clouds after they were restored and upgraded. And now they're part of the michigan. Now they have a spiritual dimension as well or an advanced spiritual dimension as well and i'm gonna speculate a bit further and forgive me. I'm a little bit. Too speculatory or speculative. Today we know with some of the golden calf. Aaron tried to dissuade the mob and was unsuccessful. Maybe the reason why he was unsuccessful is because his portfolio was smaller he was the clouds sonda tabernacle had he had the tabernacle had he been in doubt so to speak with the responsibility. Spiritual responsibility of the tabernacle. Maybe he would have been able to quell the mob. So what happens. There's a shift here. Moesha's role is going to be shrunk in favor speak of errands role expanded if you look at the very final verse of the torah. This is the punctuation the climate so to speak of the eulogy of moshe moshe grain hand and all the miracles and wonders emotion. Did before the eyes of all of israel says rashy. What is this grand accomplishment that that that final exclamation mark of motion greatness. What did he do in front of the eyes of all of.

He was the greatest jew in egypt and he saw that this wicked farrell is the cream that all boys she'll be thrown into the nile. And this is ridiculous. We were toiling for nothing. And he we're going to have children. They're all going to be killed so it's improper to have children under these circumstances so he divorced his wife. And when the leader of the jewish people make hats relation of divorces his wife all the rest of the jews followed suit and they divorced their wives and then miriam. I'm rooms daughter came. Tim says you're worse than farrell for three different reasons. 'cause pharaoh only decreed on boys but you by separating from your wife and separating all the other men from their spouses does not going to be any boys nor any girls farrell only decreed that they should be killed in this world but you're decreed that they should be killed in this world and in the spiritual world because they're never going to be born and finally pharaoh we don't know of his decree is going to be successful but if you don't get married if you're not married if you divorce your wife and all the people not married then we know for sure that the decree will be successful and indeed hearkening to. Miriam his daughter's advice. I'm remarried his wife. he did another marriage. And indeed moses was conceived. Miriam is secretly the heroine of the nation. If you think about it not only did she take those steps and provide the impetus for amraam to remarry. You'll have thus to bear moses but the whole nation would have stepped the generation. If there's no marriages there's no fertility if there's no progeny while then the nation is doom in addition the tommy tells us that miriam is called the prophetess because before moses was born..
