"The rob Thompson influence, which has been significant. And even with some terrible injuries, I said the Phillies are making the playoffs this season. And I'm still really sure that's going to happen. But they're playing exceptionally well right now. Harper is amazingly swinging it this well. This short after Tommy John surgery looks like Trey Turner starting to go. But again, they've got ranger Suarez back, even though he wasn't great his first time out. This is a complete team. They're going to the playoffs, I'm not saying they're going to beat the braves, but I don't see 16s in the national league better than Phillies. I got to clean up a couple things. Tim, have you ever been in a situation where, you know, potential brawl and you're waving, come get me at the person that you're arguing with. No, I made this clear and I'm not repeating a bit in one fight. I will never get another one. I lost badly. Sarah could beat me up in a fight. So I'm not waving any flags saying come get me unless I'm stranded somewhere. But no, I'm not a lover, and I'm not a fighter. I'm neither. And don't get me involved in fights because I really just turned my stomach when I see two people hitting each other. It just is not necessary. And Taylor, do you think this is going to set off another round of don't jinx the Phillies? Yeah, I think you got to be careful here buster. The Phillies fans, they're feeling a little touchy. They were mad when I was like, they kind of look average right now. They didn't even like that, so don't eat too much praise on them. Okay, we'll change the subject and let's talk about the Dodgers and the Padres. Dodgers took it to the Padres over the weekend and Dodger Stadium, Tim, and along the way, Joe musgrove was expressing some frustration like we got to turn this around. We have to play better against the Dodgers. I think he really could have applied that to the way the Padres are playing in general. Right. Last 8 games buster, the Padres have hit one 84 as 18. 8 games under 200. That's hard to do. They've lost 5 overall two the Dodgers who are really good right now. The Dodgers at one 13 in their last 15 averaging under three runs a game allowed. So we're starting to see the Dodgers at their best, and we're also maybe seeing the Padres at their worst. We could have guessed a lot of things buster, but we could not have guessed once Fernando Tatís Jr. came back. That there would be a one week if not longer stretch where the potteries have been this bad, offensively. And this is going to have to turn soon because there are some pretty good teams in the national league right now. I think it's going to turn, but I always worry when you put this many stars together, you spend this kind of money and the focus is on sometimes on things other than what's going on on the field. I'm not saying the potteries are in deep trouble, but boy, they look, they look shaky right now. And this is going to have to turn and fast. Over the weekend, we got bad news about drew Rasmussen, one of the rays pitchers, he's concerned about the possibility that he might be having Tommy John surgery down the road. They've already lost Jeffree springs. And yet they just keep plugging along, Jim. It feels like the last 5 or 6 years we've seen picture after picture after pitch or breakdown with a raise, and it doesn't seem to matter. Yeah, and this is really unfortunate. I did the Rasmussen game on the radio a couple of weeks ago in Tampa, and he was great. I mean, he's got the carry back on his four seam fastball. He's got two different curveballs, both of which work and to see him pitch as well as he did in the last time out against the Yankees. And then get hurt after that. I don't know what's going on in Tampa Bay, but that's a troublesome situation that Tyler glass now has this and then Jeffrey springs and now drew Rasmussen, but you're right. It's amazing the number of arms that they just bring in, plug them in and whoever they plug in really good. And the way they can score runs, they don't have to be a great pitching team right now, but they are, no matter who you put in there, it's a real tribute to Kevin cash and Kyle Snyder and all the people that run that pitching staff. So I just want to tell you that over the weekend, I bumped into a Cardinals fan who was on the field for batting practice and he was talking about how much he likes to listen to you on the podcast, okay? Guy points out specifically, Tim, you're his man and you should feel really good about that. And I think part of the reason why he told me that was because the cardinals are playing so well over the weekend over the last week after struggling for so much. They've now taken 6 of 7 games. So what do you make at the Cardinals right now? Well, I'm a little confused. I wrote a little piece for baseball tonight yesterday about how bad the cardinals are. Losing 24 of their first 35 games, controversy, confusion, very unlike the Cardinals, and then of course they turn it around and start to play like this. Look, buster, you said it a week ago. You wouldn't be surprised if by the middle of June they're back in first place in their division in part because the division isn't great. The pirates are showing their flaws, the brewers are showing their flaws. And the Cardinals have to be way better than the way they played. And we're starting to see it. Nolan Arenado as a home run in three straight games. That should be a good offensive team. It should be a good defensive team. And for miles, Michael is to pitch that well last night without strangling anybody out, was also very refreshing to see a picture who doesn't blow you away and still get through 6 innings.

"They come to some type of, I don't know, not decision, but an answer for all these teams that are not trying to win baseball games that you add two more, will they be doing the same thing? I don't know. It's a sticky situation, but it'll work itself out at some point. Let's move on to the Phillies, who a lot of people felt you and I both felt would be a team that could win this division. And make some noise they have started off slow and all of a sudden, Bryce Harper, who seems to be coming a little bit faster than everybody thought he would be, is may play mason play some first base for this ball club, but he began starting to hit a little bit. Yeah, even faster than I thought that. They said first half, I had heard potentially late May. At this point, he may be that in terms of the hitting, he seems to be ready. They're not sure on the sliding. I say, you know, we don't have to all be Drake Turner with his fantastic slide. You know, if you can get him in the games and hit that be quite a value for Philly, this guy's a ball player wants to get on the field, chomping at the bit. Pulling the play first face. I mean, and I'm with you. We were together on this Philly should be an outstanding team. They were really good as soon as they brought in rob Thompson and obviously they did great in the playoffs, surprised a lot of people, including myself, then added Turner, Taiwan walker, kimbrell, Soto. I think their winter was as good as anybody's. They should be a much better team than they've shown so far. Yeah, no, it's really been confusing in some ways. I mean, obviously when you lose Hoskins, that's going to hurt a little bit. But it hasn't just been on the offensive end where they struggled. They struggled in the rotation a little bit. The bullpen a little bit. You can get a guy like Bryce Harper back. That does patch up some holes by itself. I mean, we saw that in the playoffs last year, this should be a great team. Seriously, nola, Wheeler at the top of that rotation, ranger Suarez, if fully healthy, really good number three starter Taiwan, good number four starter. The first time I probably ten years, I look at that bullpen and I don't cringe. Okay, looks like they can survive, particularly with that rotation and that offense. At full strength with Harper back, even without Hoskins, I think this is the best line I've been baseball. We got to wait to see exactly when Harper comes back, but I think everybody's now expecting it to be not too much longer. Yeah, we'll sit back, wait and see right now, the Phillies 5 and 9 fourth place in the national league east again, a lot of baseball left, so can't make too many too many can't come up with too many answers as it pertains to that. All right, let's go to Detroit. We don't talk about Detroit very often. But certainly this was a team maybe two, three years ago, had surprised a lot of people by finishing close to 500. They might even have been right at 500. And they seem to have gone backwards since. AJ Hinch is a terrific manager, a World Series winner. But hasn't quite been able to get this ship kind of going in the right direction. He made some some tough decisions a couple of games that go have you buy as who the night before had a base running blunder. Had another one. Now, I know a lot of people will focus on him not getting out of the box on the double, but he got a double. So I don't think we should hold that over his head. However, the following batter with one out, he gets doubled off a second for getting how many hours there are. Now, AJ Hinch, I had to set this into message to his ball clip, because as he said, it wasn't just javi Baez, who was making these mistakes. He just happened to be the one to make the mistake that he had to kind of make an example out of. Although, I don't know that he, his answer was the greatest. I think ultimately he accepted the punishment and understood why it was happening. But this is something that I think AJ hitch. I had no problem with it. I think this is some AJ Hinch had to do because if the rest of those guys look and see javi Baez can be snatched out of a game for making a mental mistake. That means everybody's going to be held accountable. Absolutely well deserved. I mean, he had to triple whammy. He's overpaid based on his performance. He's not performed well. Forgetting underperformed he's performed poorly since he got there and made a mental gaffe that is really unforgivable and losing track of the number of outs. I'm with you on the double. It's okay. You can live with that. I did get to second, but you got to remember the outs. When you're not performing well, this is a guy with incredible talent. The greater New York other than that thumbs down episode, which he took all the blame for, but he wasn't the only one doing it. But, you know, we see what's going on in Detroit and, you know, they've made a lot of mistakes. And I think they need to be thankful that there's such a thing as the Oakland age because they're pretty terrible also and good thing the thing that AJ Hinch did the right thing here, I don't know that's going to solve anything. This team is not good, even if they're hustling, it's not a good team. They've got a new general manager. Obviously, with Scott Harris, may take a while to get everything in place, but the underperformance of the draft picks, torkelson, in particular, has been notable, they have some pieces that we think will be good players Riley green should be. He was an outstanding amateur hitter. You know, they're not completely bereft of talent, but they look like they are a couple years away. And did the right thing, I'm not sure it's the solution. They need to do, they need to get a better team on the field. Yeah, no. It may not solve all of their problems, but when you're this early in the season, and if you don't nip those type of things in it, but as bad as it is now, it could get a whole lot worse if you continue to have guys making mental mistakes like that. And so AJ Hinch had to do what he had to do. Let's slide over to the national league central where The Rookie Jordan walker was off to a terrific start hitting street got up to 12 games. It was finally snapped. First of all, you know, I had heard a lot about Jordan walker, but I hadn't actually seen him. The video in which in which marvel is telling him he made the team. It's funny because he's sitting down the whole time and at the end of the video, he gets up and I realized how big this guy is. He is huge. I mean, I mean, it was almost like watching judge and Altuve in that one photo where he's standing next to him. That's what it looked like watching him. He's off to a terrific start. This guy can play. Yeah, absolutely. And of course, the reason that you hadn't seen him before is because you are a fortunate one who gets to be in Arizona for spring training. "I don't think you can happen. But there's so many different scenarios. I mean, yes, he could get hurt as he ramps up. Ostensibly if he shows enough and it's just too much of a project, maybe there's another team that would trade for him and then keep him the whole year like a rebuilding team. I don't know, but he's so interesting, Ben, because he was and I've talked to people who saw him in those 7 games he pitched for role, his first professional year with the Red Sox. And there weren't people who were going to write them up as big league ready at some point in 2020 and that you pitched in 2019 at Lowell. I mean, that was polished. It was really good. And he's 25 now, and he hasn't pitched in three years. And who knows? Even Dave de brussel, I don't know what's going to happen when he gets on the noun, throws. This is going to be 85 or 95 miles an hour. I don't know. And I don't think no song knows either. He says, I'm kind of curious to see what my feature ceiling is now too, because I don't know what it is. It's a fun story. And I've been impressed, how many people are like, have kind of latched on to it, and I guess it is because it is somewhat unprecedented because he was a really decent prospect before he went into the navy and because I feel like people are loved the idea of Don broski pulling one over the Red Sox, which I know that the Red Sox are not so crazy about it. And I also know that they're going to be paying really close attention to how affiliates handle song this spring. If there is a quote unquote injury, they're going to be asking a lot of questions to the league office about it. Where's the documentation? What actually happened? And so I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen, but I know that it's a really cool story, right? Well, we've talked about some of the prospects you might find their way into the rotation. We've talked about some of the free agent additions just generally, but I want to ask about where the team is with Aaron nola and a potential contract extension because this off season they signed Taiwan walker. They obviously have ranger Suarez there. We don't know what will happen with the fist start spot, but it seems impossible that they will let no go, but they have not been able to get an extension done yet. Where do they stand with that? Right, Meg. So I wrote it earlier this spring that they're talking. They've exchanged offers and I think there's some optimism that they can get a deal done with spring. They really hadn't, you know, I don't think the two sides really talked until maybe a little before spring training started, Noel actually got married on New Year's Eve and I think they had other business to attend to and they're like, let's just get to this closer to spring training or in spring training. It's kind of the time of year where you do this thing. Told me that he wants to, you know, if the Cesar starts and he doesn't have a deal he wants to take it to free agency and that makes total sense. A lot of guys don't like negotiating during the year. You know, like I look at the calls or don't deal as sort of a baseline and you could argue that no one should get more than Rhode Island, he's got a better track record. I think he's about it. I think he's about a year younger. I guess you'd be about the same age once he gets the free agency that we're doing, but a year younger right now. Guys made the most stars in the major leagues since the start of the 2018 season, most innings pitched in the major leagues. There is a lot of value in durability and I know for a while that innings eaters or workhorses weren't exactly like the most valued thing in the sport, but I do think it is trending a little bit back that way. And I know it isn't just a workhorse. I mean, he is often elite at what he does. He's just not flashy and a lot of people don't have to notice that. But, you know, the knock on him was that he wilted at the end of seasons and he really changed that narrative last year last September. He was outstanding for them. He came up huge and big moments early in the postseason. He was outstanding for them. He wasn't great late in the LCS and in the World Series is just so, so I think the long year really did catch up to him, but I think something gets done. I think it's going to be, it would be a big number to get done though. It's not like he's going to take a discount here. I mean, he's essentially 7, 8 months away from a big payday, I think, in free agency. So he really likes it here. He's a pretty simple guy. They've worked they've done an extension before, you know, before he reached arbitration years. They didn't extension. So I think that they can get something done, but they've got about 5 weeks now to get it done before the season starts. I wanted to ask a couple outfield and offense questions here in the same question. So Nick Castellanos did not provide the thump that he was asked to last season.

I do want to point out equities with a new lift here. SPX 39 22. That puts it up 6% to Mike Wilson's 4100. Only 6%. In a far away. So we moved. Let's look at Washington right now. We do this with Henry on the trays, director of economic policy invader partners, but far, far more Henrietta trays understands the process on Capitol Hill. Henrietta, give me the process of gridlock if we presume gridlock, Wednesday when we're in Washington for two days next week. What does gridlock look like next Wednesday? Well, gridlock is usually something that investors love to hear out of D.C.. I have a lot of clients who are saying, does this mean we won't have to worry about D.C. for a couple of years. And I think that's definitely the case. The outcome of the Senate elections in our base case assumption is that we land at 50 50 inconceivably where we are in yard today. I anticipate the Democrats will lose Nevada, but pick up Pennsylvania and you get left in this tremendous turnout election at the same thing that you've got now. You've seen the theater in the rooms and capital hill. Do you expect to see the theater of big oil executives saying, do you solemnly swear? I think it's possible after the election. If Democrats or specifically if gas prices continue to be particularly high and if Democrats maintain the Senate, or if they maintain the house, I think there's a high likelihood that they would be called up. The windfall profits tax idea is something that I see as a 0% odds chance of passage, but it is a very convenient boogeyman to have going into the last week of the election cycle. Politicians love a boogeyman. They got a great one in Exxon and Chevron and the energy producers right now. Henrietta, who is the boogeyman speaking to within the Democratic Party. To speak to sort of the polarization, how much is it the mainstream Democratic Party and how much is it more of the left side of it? I think that Democrats trying to speak to pocketbook issues. They're trying to discuss inflation and see, explain to voters that they get the memo. They understand that gas prices are very high and it's a huge problem, and that's what they're being judged on. By explaining that it's not them. There's so many things for Democrats to point to. And Republicans as well. But on the democratic side, I think they're just trying to find a message that resonates with voters that says, I appreciate that inflation is a problem. We have been doing our level best to get at it. It is not our fault. And that's really the main course of action with this windfall profits tax idea. And the same would be true for any congressional hearings that they held. What proposals do Republicans have to bring down inflation right now? Ironically, their main proposal is to extend the 2017 tax cuts and jobs act, which is the same as federal spending, fiscal stimulus, which is their primary argument why Democrats have gotten us in this position in the first place. Reckless federal spending 2017 tax bill was a $5 trillion bill. $1.5 trillion of which was pure deficit spend. Henrietta, one of the great truisms we know at Bloomberg surveillance. And you don't see it on radio, but you see it on TV. There was an article that was actually really good today. They came out on the Bloomberg basically talking about how, right now, basically reiterating what we've been talking about all year, the inflation and employment mandate are not in conflict, right? After that so let's start out a number fifteen i gotta start with my philadelphia phillies seventy one in sixty eight overall six and four in their last ten two and a half games out in the nationally geese two and a half games out in the wild card but three out in the loss column in both racists and this team continues to be jekyll and height they had won six in a row against the diamondbacks and the nationals before dropping. Two out of three to the marlins two out of three here to the brewers nothing to be ashamed of dropping. Two out of three to the brewers but now the schedule gets lighter for that so it they're scheduled down the stretch the orioles the rockies. They got the pirates the mets so they got a winnable games coming down the stretch here where they could potentially make a move in both the wild card in the nationally geest but somebody who stood out for them as ranger swore us even since he's been moved to the rotation he was closing games for them before the trade deadline and then they traded for ian kennedy moving ranger suarez to the rotation and he has a one seven one. Era in thirty one and two thirds innings since the beginning of august so he was pulled recently with some triceps tightness but again he has been a savior this year both out of the bullpen and now in the rotation to give them some length in some depth as they hope he can just stay healthy here moving forward and number fourteen. I got the cincinnati reds three and seven in their last ten games. They're twelve games out of the nfl central but half a game out of the playoffs. So not a good way to continue to play here down the stretch and their final thirteen games are all against the mariners in the astros so the two teams that they're battling with in the american league west and then of course the mariners right there now and that wild card standings. It's gonna come down to those final thirteen games so even though the as have been struggling here if they can right this ship they can put it all together. They're going to be just fine. If they're able to beat the mariners down the stretch and number twelve. I have the atlanta braves. The braves are foreign six and their last ten the phillies gave them a chance over the past four days to really put them a few games back as they were five and a half games up. That was down to a game and a half now. Sits two and a half games. Says they were swept by the dodgers. They split a four game set with the rockies. Now took two out of three against the nationals. So it's gonna be it's gonna be tough down. The stretch schedule also gets lighter so things do get a bit easier for the braves. So certainly there the favorite in the national league east coming down the stretch here. But they also gave charlie morton in extension. We talked about. Monday's episode one year. So charlie morton going to be back in a braves uniform here the next couple of years as well and number eleven i have the san diego. Padres the padres. They are and five in their last ten but currently occupy that second wildcard spot. It is a half a game in the standings but it is too. It was an ugly month of august for the padres. But they're starting to show signs of life again series wins over the diamondbacks and the astros blake. Snell has been very good next couple of starts but their schedule is tough right. There are 19 pictures this season that are essentially starting pitchers. In the National League that have, I think initially that a sub three year age that's a lot of guys like squeezing all those guys in its hard I can. I can understand why a lot of guys feel like there's some today. Well, you're exactly right. Mark Simon with us. That list is very impressive of the pitchers who are not included. But if Gausman doesn't go, how do you Ignore 53 30 and the guy who you know could have 10 wins by the time this thing happens. What about Rogers? Though there are a lot of relievers on the staff. I'm not so sure Rogers gets picked. Yeah, well, I'll say this, though, if anyone so if anyone begs out, I think Kenley Jansen would be next in line. He's got. I think it's the same era basically and Rogers 135, and he has 21 saved, so I don't think you continued with that. I think he's legit to go Rogers this kind of in that next best group after Kenley Jansen and I would think that if a guy or two goes down that you could see him. In, um, we're talking, though. There's TJ Antone from the Reds. There's a weird one. Ranger Suarez from the affiliates has great numbers. Uh, I feel like the guys that they picked were like legit. Especially considering what you afternoon you get one that every team Um, so I would say tellers got a shot, but he's not. I don't think he's first in line is Diaz from the Mets to see you in there? Um, you know the mess. We're left with just a gram. So about, uh, but Edward, so Edwin Diaz would be another certainly formidable candidate. He's had a couple of little blips this year that push his numbers. Like into the not as good as Rogers range the areas to eight Um again, you can look at other numbers, the strikeout to walks 4 to 1. He hasn't allowed a home run in 31 innings, so he's definitely like I still think Kenley is next in line. But, uh, Diaz would be in that kind of that mixed depending on which way it would go. Okay.
