"And the old want a weak ground ball to the right side. It gets past amount pirate coming on the thrall. The slightest Minnesota twins win it. Exciting night Pretty long night at Target field. You Kenta Maeda lost his no hitter in the ninth, but it was an exciting game in the 12. Mikey. Hey, that was that was the encapsulation of why we love and hate baseball. It was a long game, which you know they're trying to counter that with all kinds of different things that didn't work last night, and it was a great game and just it ends. Well, everything. East three strikeouts Kenta Maeda. Going for the no hitter. Use it up to a light hitting infielder, and then they almost lose. They lose the lead tied up, almost get beaten. Then they come back and find a way to win. They didn't do it with a home run like you expect to institute with they deal with a little soft ground ball. It was everything than Kenta Maeda. You with something last night. Everything that, you know, you know, Um Jordana, one of the things that they talk about when you're learning to pitch in baseball is everybody wants tall hard you throw. Is he a 95 guys in 93 guys? You know what What what More and more teams or good pitching coaches say how hard is his ball move, and it throws an 88 but is moving three inches from left to right. Most guys can't do that. He can still pitch and that's what he did last night that ah A lot of really good pictures. We've been proud of the way that work because he was he was overpowering there blown it by anybody use. He was really pitching, attacking the strike zone, and that's that's good to see you at all levels. It's good to see you so we do that. Is that a trend in baseball now and they were throwing so fast but throwing with more art? Absolute, actually not. It's the opposite. Now. Everybody's thrown 97 98 6 95, and that's what was refreshing to see. But you don't have to again that if you know your pitches if you're working on with your catcher, if you're doing all those things, you're still successful. Randy Dad next on a great singer, and a lot of people are throwing sinkers anymore. Some people say that's not the way to pitch anymore that you get it. You try to move the ball up in the zone and do some different things, and he's having tremendous success. So if you do it well, it seems to me you've got a pretty good chance. And there are a lot of new trends in baseball. But it seems like everybody wants you throw harder made and just get thrown it wherever they wanted and got it done. I just want to take you back about 28 years or so this week, I would have been on a crappy, dilapidated school bus travelling through the deep south to East Tennessee State. University use Tennessee stating east Tennessee State University. Stay with me. There is a point to this story, Mikey, just setting the stage a little bit for you, Um, traveling and and finding fast food restaurants that we did not know existed. There's like, you know, fried crayfish, crawfish thatyou confined. At a fast food place in the deep South. That you did not know was even a food. So imagine that we would have arrived on the campus of the East Tennessee State University. And we would be with about I'm gonna go with about 5000 other teenage girls and teenage boys, probably in the best shape off their life for a week's worth of cheerleading camp. Well, you would, too. Campanis, Tennessee state. Honey, that's real cute in the smoky mountains, right? We schlepped? Yep. So it was the greatest one of the greatest experience of college cheerleader. So that's what I need. Yeah, so it was great, but it was a lot of hard work. I've never been so sore in my whole life, really, But it takes me back to getting ready for the season and you say what you want about cheerleading. It was a wonderful sport that kept us in great shape and was really fun. What are we doing with the high school cheerleaders? And if there's no football this year, you know, I was asking about that and because even training all summer A cz, you know, to your point in other skills, and they had no team to trade for so they were talking about a meeting football cheerleaders. They're talking about moving him over a soccer where there is Gonna be a season and then they kind of said. Some said, You know why the fewer people the better right now at games, and so there's just continuing to train kind of like the football players, and it's like we'll tell you when you got a season cheer for you. No. So you know the ramifications and every school is different As to what they you Certainly can. I was just talking to somebody whose daughter goes to Big school were talking about that. But You forget they've trained as a group all summer. Yes, I know. And you don't train you know you trained to perform and and there's no place to performance, So they're hanging in there still doing stunts. They've cut back on their practices because you really don't, you know You probably get there and there's probably no competitions. Some of those are some good you know, they compete nor God competitions right now. So it's just like everywhere else, Man. You did they Limiting it, and even the outdoor activities. They don't want my swimming and diving this year in the fall. No parent nobody's allowed to go watch. So it's just gonna be an empty place, and hopefully some parent will be ableto face. Time to meet, you know, you know that goes if they can live stream it. Yeah, That's a good idea. Fred knows how he can hook that up. Who's that? I can't tell who's in the water. Zoom meets. Yeah, Zooey. That is interesting. Because, of course you want to see your child compete, especially if they're seniors and Already half of their season last year was decimated. So wow yeah, I don't think about I've been thinking about the cheerleaders cause that's fine. Yeah, but I I get that it's Ah, I mean, look, there's disappointments everywhere, Of course, for all of the sports, But that has ripples of Walt affected. I worry about more than that is, Will you turn more cheerleaders or football players put them all in the same camp. If they don't have a discipline or something to do, they're going to do something. But what's the something they're going to do? You know, I'm saying, I agree with that is every night, Friday night Saturday night. Now, if there's no, there's no consequences. In other words, if you get caught doing something you're not supposed to be doing. There's no team to get kicked off of that scares me as much as anything you know, and it's not just that I'm starting to get to perform. But Man kids without structure, they and they don't do it overnight, but they slowly start a many stairs. 11 11 30 is even more fun. And guess what happened? 12? You know, Mikey, I hear you. It's a good thing. You're your wife has some structure for those kids. Keep them right in line. Here You are. Big stories. Top stories of the day where.

"In the game. Well. The Twins rode into Kansas City with one of the best records in major league baseball, and they now head to Milwaukee, having lost four straight games, including three in a row in a three game sweep at the hands of the Royals. Royals had snapped a six game losing streak just prior to the Twins arriving and they've now run off four consecutive victories. They dump the Twins 42 1st major league victory for Brady singer. The bullpen was outstanding. Once again in the Twins take advantage. Apartment Royals take advantage of the Twins mental miscue throwing to the wrong base in the opening frame for a tune up in lead. Twins rally Too tired. But the last two belonged to the Royals as they exploit a leadoff walk in the third and get him to kill Franco home run in the sixth inning for to the final. Royal's Air seven and 10. The Twins fall to 10 and six. Let's circle the bases with Mary Field lead off this ball game with a base hit against Jose Berrios. And that should not come as a surprise 11 hits from Merrifield, now off of Maria's That is the most of any batter against Jose Jose Brady was second on that list with nine. Miguel's to know over the serious. He's now got 45 at bats to start the season without a single all of his hits or for extra bases. We joked about it with battle Venus Point of inside twins but now 45 at bats without a single The record is starting here is Richie Sexson in 2007. He went 68. It pats without stopping it first base. It's the longest streak since Carrie Sanchez had 50 at bats in 2018 before his first single of the year. Last time, the Twins were swept in a three game series. Ali back to 2018 September 3rd 4th and fifth in Houston against the Astros, and you could hear the trash can banging that day. I'm sure last swept by Kansas City that would be July 20th through the 22nd off 2018 the losing pitchers for the Twins in that series. Gibson, Lynn and Jack Duke, and finally, we mentioned the Royals Bullpen 13 and 1/3 innings pitched against the Twins in this. Siri's just two runs, five hits, but the impressive mark 17 strikeouts in 13 and 1/3 innings in jest. Two walks. As for the twins, they will recover. They will get ready for baseball in Milwaukee, as they will be in Miller Park tomorrow night, and we will be there to cover it for you. 6 30 pregame line of Cut 7 10 is our first pitch. Really nice pitching matchup. Randy Dad. Knack. You know how good he's been to and one with a 10.6 earned run average. Adrian Hauser may not be a household name. He's one to know with 0.75 earned run average, so a couple of someone IRA's going head to head and hopefully something will give tomorrow night and hopefully it's the Twins offense that takes flight in Milwaukee. So 6 30 will be our lineup card. 7 10 1st pitch twins and Brewers right here on your home Twins baseball..

"Of it, too, so lots of plans lots of plans to get started on our bodies. We were all excited. We live five minutes from Otterbein. It was a great set up and then out of the blue, he says he doesn't want to go. He's not ready to go right now. He's going to do a gap year and we talked to a lot of people. I even posted that question several weeks ago on or what matters with many Michaela Facebook page, and I asked your opinion. What do you think of this? You know, my dad was a big believer of If people don't go to college right away. If they take that year off, there's a pretty good chance that they won't go it all. Randy's dad feels the exact opposite. He feels like everybody should take a year off work really hard. And find out just how important an education is. And you'll want that education more. We're going to find out and I asked training the other day. McHale I said if Coffin never happened, Do you think I would be going And he said Yes, no doubt. No doubt. No doubt he would be there. But and I've also heard from people. If you're going to do a gap year, this is the year to do it because of Cove in going to college, isn't it? The same right now. It's not that college experience that everybody got you has gotten used to. So I was looking around after we started talking about it. I mean, and you have these schools. Harvard is one opting for remote learning. And if you're going to pay 50 grand a year to go, Ah, lot of these kids are considering not just at Harvard. It's amazing when you look online at the subject. There's a lot of kids considering this and to your point, Mindy. Sometimes a year of that. Volunteer experience, full time work and really provide some clarity until what they want to do with their lives, You know as they move forward, but that's a good point. And we did ask Hae that if you if you really considering this if this is what you're going to Dio, you need to give us a plan. What are you going to do for the next year? Because I know one thing. He's not going to just lay around the house. You know why you won't let him? I wouldn't let them do it. During Cove. It came in Canyon. Cailan. Both got jobs. So he is going to work. He's gonna work on getting bigger and stronger for baseball, and he talked to the coaches a daughter by and we called out of mind. You know, his his academic scholarship is all set in place. They'll hold it for a year. They will hold it for a year and said, You know, well, we'll look forward to seeing you in a year, so we'll see. Anything can happen in that here hand but Gary to me because I'm watching all of these seniors get ready to go to college and knowing that my son should be going, But he's going to wait a year and me as a mom. I have a funny feeling about that. I don't like that. So can I give you some good advice that I saw when I was looking into this and for any of you who have kids or grandkids that air considering this They need to set a time line so kind need to set a timeline of when the gap year starts and when it ends and think about how he's going to make money and spend his money. I mean a budget, probably for whatever he wants to do, because he's going to ask you to do some things during this gap is not just gonna worry. He does have that May. He's working hard, All right, that's great. Make sure he has a budget for it. And then I do and also just building structure so and I think you're going that direction. But beyond his job, is there something else that he wants to use their own internship? Maybe given the fact that he's going into engineering is there something he could do with that? Can he take some free online classes to develop some other professional skills? I mean, it's those things that will help that Gap year be most successful. Four Kai and for the rest of you who have kids who are considering this Good advice. Good advice, and that's what we've already started that get that in place. And so it's scary for me. I mean, think about it. I'm shot there. Not more panicked. To be honest. I've been dealing with this for the last few weeks, and at first I thought he won't really go through with it. But I think he's going to really go through it. If he's going to take that gap year, and he's got several his buddies, we're going to do the same thing. So you know, we'll say we'll update you on what matters That's for sure is If Mama ain't happy. I'll talk about Mum ain't helping. Nobody is happy, usually in anyone's household. All right, coming up next. Speaking of keeping Mom happy and the dad to or whoever else is in your house, let's look at the design and interior. "CEO You can listen to him tonight. Twins Cubs Right here at six o'clock, Let's transition to this twins roster. Corey, You know how they looked The last couple weeks during these, like inter squad scrimmage is how It's hard to judge my playing against you. No other teams, but just, you know, they got to get some timing back and and hopefully they're staying in shape. But But how did everybody look lot offense and into the game with his other calling or just watching sister sister watching alone? You know the offense was driving it, Which isn't a surprise. I think the offenses going to once again carry the steam over the pitching. They really should be a better group. I think in terms of Our pitching on there was wrongdoing, but we did over the weekend, and it was kind of Ah, lower scoring the fair and there are some really good grown up on the pitching was pretty on point there watching Randy, Dad, Mac and Devin. Some of the young arm that came out of that game. But we think they're not gonna household names yet. But maybe maybe not. This summer thinks some of these things that we saw in those games. The most understanding the same pole working go betweens. Just believe that for them and look, they wish they had the luxury for every model it clear of the system. But we're serving generals were closer than others development going. And that's when we saw you know that you want around. Or maybe even the Dakota Chalmers pitching some of these games alone. Jeffers, For example, a young catcher doesn't mean he'll make the big leagues this season. I think if they're in a pension that their catcher, least wrong, growing role in his big league time will probably supersede Jeffers. Just one day even seen some of those young arms was impressive. But overall, another wrong up looked fierce. And, Yeah, you know, it was separate, right? The Kepler on one team that belong on the other. He was with them. When you thought in your mind grouping guys together, it's going to be there's just no letup. When the Rana it's going to be awesome. Austin the walls can compete beginning tonight. Yeah, and they've got they've got some reserves to that'll be practicing in ST Paul and waiting for their time to guys like Alex Carol off and, ah, Carol are Nick and guys that can really mash at that level, too, And they're just kind of Waiting to see if you know if there's they're called upon if there's going to be an injury or an illness, which we did see, and we got a big scare last week with Byron Buxton, do you know how he's doing? Or is there any chance he plays on Friday? You know again, because when the traveling these are things that are not always going to be pretty do I know that Rocco was unless has changed this one as a This was maybe Sunday or Monday. The plan was to bring 33 players to Chicago, but both the exhibition game and for the whites that serious standing phone remember the roster rules. Cory When we start the season with 30 players and then three taxi squad players that are permitted to travel, So there's your 33. I get the sense that the twins and that you know, I think they're going to be careful in terms of travelling players unless it's vital. So, you know, Karen did not play in the game on Monday. I did see him work out before the game and ran around a little bit, was not running at full speed on Monday. The work was closed yesterday. So as we can today, I don't know if I made the trip up there. It was pretty adamant. Lost week neatly in the media about that he is his conviction was pretty strong that he was going to be out there opening day. But he wasn't going full speed and Monday into me that was, I thought that it would have been ramped up based on his words and based on what I saw on Monday, so it wouldn't shock me if he's not ready to go, even though he'd like to one shot, but he's not in the ladder up on Friday. Well, it's going to be 60 games and like 66 days, so you know if he misses the first couple, that's okay. At least he avoided a major injury. That's that's the most important thing at this point. Yeah, I think you with Jake Odorizzi. You know, he came up with that back stiffness scratched before his last scrimmage starts. So you know, it wouldn't shock me. If he, you know, stays back, and maybe they open up the year with Because I think Homer Bailey's going tonight, But I have to go with Torrio and maybe killed in my ADA that that first theories and there's an off day Monday and then maybe Odorizzi. That was enough time that he's good to go to start, maybe at home opener against the Cardinals on Tuesday. Gori is going to be so great to hear you're back on the air. Best wishes Now is the season gets started. Thanks so much for taking the time and I go twins. Give that Cory take care, buddy. Okay, you two He's Corey. Pro Vis twins Play by play broadcaster right here on W Cco. Twins Cubs six o'clock tonight. Your bag. It's an exhibition game, but still we're back. And then Friday is the real thing in Chicago. "Welcome back to the second hour of his show and you can tell in my voice then I am happy and I am happy because John Colin I just watching the television screen and the eagles I'd just took the lead and can be really hard for Washington to retake the lead so looking good for the birds and John told me see I'm not up on this right now and stuff so I was preparing for the show for you guys but John told me that the the cowboys are playing the rams out in California so that's to be a tough game and I mean it's it's actually entails but it's a four twenty five starts coming down yeah but that's coming up so if after this game if the if the birds hold on and Dale says you know doubts is actually going to talk one on their hands the rams of a better record so we'll we'll see what happens there that's true I should not be true you know during the the the victory dance yet because I'm very very suspicious on Tallien Irish and will be the sweetest and me too I don't I I think it's filled lifelong Philly sports agent you know not so jump jump the gun on anything because we're at any moment our hearts can be ripped out we are we are expert at snatching defeat absolutely right now I know that we get a we get a you get did you can't have we've already had two goals at the meadow lands and this is what this is what's the what this is not invesco field what's what's the name of fed ex to that accident and Landover Maryland right and that's goes up in Boston right that's the the patriots feel I don't know all these new names I mean I remember the old names of the stadiums you now I don't remember and I'm I like the fact that Chicago it's still it is still called Soldier Field right now is still Soldier Field where the only stadiums I guess and has one of those names it's been around for quite some time yeah and candlestick park is still candlestick park right now is that what you're talkin San Francisco correct yeah I think it's eighteen to email I could be wrong are you kidding me now I ask you to bring a tear and I was just getting used to a T. and T. subway station down here not that I liked it not that I called eighteen T. station it was still broad and Pattison it will always be broad and Pattison but now it's not even AT and T. now now it's like an R. G. and B. B. C. B. C. refugee or whatever it why do we and you know it's because you're rich and you can buy these state either by the the station and name it after you do they not know that they are engendering hostility from native Philadelphians toward their businesses because they are making us they're confusing us with all these new names you know I still call Macy's Wanamaker's Wanamaker's Wanamaker's Wanamaker's is the Wanamaker show I was on a show on a different station doing Philly feud with might miss an alley and there were the people from the Enquirer on on one team and see broadcast guys like Leslie Goodell in D. line and my god I'm having like a mind freeze mind blank on the other two guys on the other side but anyway and one of the is one of the questions was name a Philadelphia free Philadelphia holiday tradition and I said the Wanamaker light show and I'm like I I I you know almost like they have to question if that's if that was a win because it's not the Wanamaker light show anymore it's the Macy's light show but still anyway I digress I'm dina was spiraling off into the end and I'm looking at the screen and John are we still at I guess we are anyway self back to you my faithful listeners before we went to the break I mentioned something about lesbian kissing and you're like I'm a hot Christine it's Sunday well a little bit of a dust up any controversy this weekend because the hallmark channel which is not known as a risk taking cutting edge kind of network decided to air this is during the holiday season a package of commercials which push the envelope somewhat for the hallmark audience and I'm guessing because I watch for mark I am guessing that the average the demographic that watches hall mark is probably you know middle age to older people you know who are you know not necessarily upwardly mobile that comfortable kind of conservative family value types religious or spiritual and that they would have been as I would have been shocked to see a commercial in the middle of one of those Christmas movies where you know the girl is in in a town that she doesn't know where she is and she sees this hunky lumberjack in one of those you know gorgeous felt checkered shirts and he helps her because she's got stuck in a snow bank and then they start chatting in and he sweeps her off her feet and they kissed passionately at the end of the show and then they all sing Christmas carols and have hot cocoa I mean that's kind of like the general plot line of a lot of the shows that are on the hallmark channel especially this time of year and then you know at other times of the year they just have these nice nice little romances or family programs which are great you know we all love the hallmark channel I love the hallmark who doesn't love hallmark remember the hallmark hall of fame they used to have those gosh that for years forty some years I used to watch them on television the the hallmark hall of fame now presents and they would have these wonderful television dramas television productions and but now they have a whole network anyway this is my way of saying that a hallmark is to stay comfortable kind of fluffy road that you're wraparound yourself and you know what your going to get when you turn on the hallmark channel well apparently some people in the viewing audience of the hallmark channel got something they weren't expecting to a couple of weeks ago when they saw an advertisement from a company called zoella Zola ran an ad Seoul is a wedding planning site kind of like the not and Hey Randy dad with two women getting married to brides getting married and then they ended up kissing at the end of the ad and that caused some major controversy on both sides on the one side you had the regular viewers of the hallmark channel who were kind of like god what is that each other what and on the other hand you had people who were really angry at the people who were upset about the lesbian kissing because of your just bigots you're just bigots if you have no problem with a man and a woman kissing on the hallmark channel and you do have a problem with two women kissing on the hallmark channel or two men kissing on the how much I know you're just a big it okay all right well so it triggered a huge controversy which I was on a where apparently it was playing out in the background for the past week to ten days and the hallmark out there was a a conservative group one million moms they complains to bill abit who is the CEO of crown media family networks which is hallmark parent company and the the senior vice president for public affairs and communications at hallmark her name is Molly be work said in an interview that the network didn't want to quote generate controversy and so they announced yesterday that they were removing the ads for the wedding planning site Zola saying that the controversy had become a distraction yeah I think yeah thank this is not the time of year the hallmark wants to have distractions and controversies hallmark is very big around the Christmas holidays very big around the holidays in general and so to have their name besmirched in the way that it is being the smart store to become a political football as it has been is not good for business and so they decided okay they were gonna listen to the one million moms I guess there's a million of them there may even be more there may be a few less and they decided okay we are going to withdraw the advertisement the people on the other side too hi there are advocates for L. G. B. T. rights or who are simply allies I love that word allies of the LGBT community they got really upset and they're like your big it's your big it's your big it's this is horrible if you don't like it just change the channel you know and I just found their hypocrisy amazing because what the shoe was on the other foot and check filet which is a company that until recently was known as a family values kind of a lot it it still is a very it's a very good business they have fabulous chicken I'm told I've never had checked the late check in my nephew loves chick fillet check and and most of the people that I know who have had chick fillet chicken say it is absolutely the best in the market in the industry but again until fairly recently when they decided to cut loose the salvation army as one of their spot one of the people that they would donate to they were known as thought conservative from the CEOs position Dan can say who was the CEO and I believe may still be the C. E. O. although I think you may have just retired is it is an evangelical Christian very conservative oppose same sex marriage but those were his personal beliefs he mentioned them in an interview and then all hell broke loose and all these LGBT activists were saying well you know we got a boycott chick fillet we got a boycott chick fillet we ought to do this we got to do that yeah we got I just don't stop you know we we don't want to have that our current mayor then city council person Jim Kenney was like we're gonna get the chick fillet it's not gonna do business in our tile knoll fork in what and in England I think they had a chick fillet that opened and then ultimately had to close because they were protesting the LGBTQ community in now they're all talking about all you know we have the free market system and I remember that a lot of the LGBT Q. activists were sent well you know what I I a yeah we we we want to close these people down and you had people who were saying to them if you don't like the company don't patronize them don't buy their chicken and people push back in the LGBT community and their allies say no now we must eliminate this bigotry we must get rid of it and they were like you know black booted fascists on this I remember thinking this is amazing you know what about the free market so but it's it's amazing now those same people who were so upset about chick fillet and its so called anti LGBT positions are now yelling at people who don't want to have two women kissing on television yelling at those people for successfully lobbying the hallmark channel to get rid of it you have people in the LGBT community and their allies say if you don't light get chains that channel which is just so hypocritical because that's exactly what was said to them back with the chick fillet controversy they were like no no no no no we must have our way we must impose our will upon you people thank right consistent now I have been I agree with my friend Steve who I've been tweeting back and forth with I happen to have a huge problem with cancel culture you know that whole idea that if you don't like something you have to get rid of it I personally would not have removed the advertisement simply because there are some people who are uncomfortable with it however let me rephrase that I understand the whole idea of people say oh well you know it's it's we we we can't just Shane people into getting rid of things in it but I I there is a difference and the.

"Rossini. watch football daily one a day clinches the central and it's his birthday. and in some kind of day you know most birthdays or you know I get beautiful card from my girlfriend my family and my all my friends will give me a call and maybe I'll see a couple of them and those are great days I got all of that today and we got a nail central championships so I don't know if I could ask for anything more let's talk ball the bright. hi Steve Simpson in for days. I was sitting center right now you're on the morning news and one of the things that I think we may be overlooked we tried not to was the amazing pitching performance by Randy dot net can just his entire story we had the bench coach Derek Shelton on with us we went around the horn with him and talked about Dominic and just the fact that he's an easy guy to root for it's a great way to put it what he has done for us over the last month month and a half I I think is really solidified it in he stepped in in different roles because really well I mean the pitch yesterday in the situation where you know the leaving to go to a wedding and and to go on bridges walls he did it it was a really cool moment because the guy the two years ago concerning the ball and you know the scalp is signed in Billy models was actually the game yesterday so you know there's just a combination of a lot of good things so that's there shall we also had a chance to catch up with Randy's dad Rick who was at the game last night in Detroit he was getting ready to fly back to Pittsburgh to pick up his wife so that they could get to Maryland for Randy's wedding this weekend by the way Randi's getting married this is been two years in the making and it just so happens that it's falling on this coming weekend you know it would all these pretty comical and all the mail my grammar kind of thing where I mean it's not super emotional it's really cold like it but at the wild ride the real good word to use but we're just not a whole like kind of like jumping up at nine go crazy kind of like my life is my wife goes crazy about all this stuff. yeah yeah I'm just gonna like role that Mike guy was really cold so there you go all right so that was two cents an end for Dave Lee in the morning news we talked to our wall. for the twins organization and a pair by coming up next we got twins and Tigers the pre game next year we'll talk to you tonight late night on newstalk eight three oh WCCO. why.

"Foot shorter than the crowd it's quite an adjustment. I also read that I I hadn't known this that while he was waiting for that liver and kidney transplant you were referencing. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer and that's why why he couldn't withstand. The transplant was because of the stomach cancer. What do you know about that. that was a sad story randy. I talked over the phone you know at least once a month and so I was you know talked to randy during that whole time and he pretty much knew that he needed liver and kidney transplant and is entailed something like eleven hour surgery and he was on the donor list for many years was really was in in and out of hospital when you're only great hospital and he pretty much knew needed it and at one point there was a lady Nicole Simmons who came forward and was reading ready to die to donate both although I don't think you can but they couldn't find a a catheter that was small enough for a long time because cause Mandy was so small in in size according to what I've read does make a difference in transplant so randy size was against you didn't get heading to transplant and then he was already. The ambulance ready was living era. They were going to fly to wash nor to do the do the surgery and then in the midst of that he developed stomach and randy as I said like a lot of writers including myself was heavy duty Hieber. I used to regurgitate ten times a day to make way making. It was hard running racist. Good Lord and Randy was in the same boat and I don't know I just wonder I haven't I don't know if there's a correlation between you know constant vomiting and stomach cancer or not but I'm sure we'll to find out there. Maybe somebody out there. Listening knows more than I do this. I am not that person. I'm not either and you know. It took me three years to stop because you just can't stop you. You can't allow yourself to be full after you know when you full you just feel guilty. I mean when I wrote it was the same way I mean I could tell you anytime day or night. Within how would I way I mean wait was just what you live with and you knew and Randy was the same way. Randy was a head to reduce very hard. I mean he wasn't extraordinarily taller our big but he just like a lot of riders. I guess maybe twenty five percent of writers do still regurgitate very heavily and Andy was one of those Randy Randy not only had the battle injuries you he had to wait also in in the same time you know jockeys used to where where he's at for time. I used to see jockey t shirts such a race track where a T shirt with no fear on it well. I'm here to tell you ready to them to wear that t shirt coach I mean everybody knew knew he didn't make sure I don't think he wasn't afraid of anything and I don't think he was afraid of that. I I mean he suffered a lot of pain and but he told me he wasn't afraid of dying and Randy was a person of faith in the he thought he was going to happen and I believe he's absolutely right our guest here. Eddie Donnelly who was heard as a former writer is also vice president of jockeys in jeans a yearly fundraiser to benefit the permanently sadly disabled Jockeys Fund what was Randy Romero's involvement with the P. D. J. F. Randy always wanted to come and and Randy couldn't for one reason or another health reese randy actually tried to go to those kinds of events where you give back and and I remember one time equal to I think it was one of those triple Crown Things Belmont Park as and when you do dialysis three times weekly and he did it from like nineteen years. She's storing itself. You have what's called a portrait or armed because otherwise it's a very everything that he hates needle that requires Afresh Dick unless you have one of these things everything allison's and anyway he came home got on the ground was in Lafayette was was staying with his his mom who was living there at the time you go upstairs to go to take a nap. The port ruptures wannabes brothers come in and finds him in a pool of blood almost blood the deaths so that was kind of thing that randy had to fight and jockeys. Gt always had at a heart for Jockeys Angie's engines and we raise funds for the permanent sable Joplin's from which gives a thousand dollars stipend to some sixty permanently disabled riders randy did come to our phone in two thousand eighteen year before last of Canterbury Park and he flew in and he had to do dialysis while he was there. Actually actually randy did dialysis the same day he received he was dumped engine hall of fame in two thousand ten Olga but anyway he came and he wanted the come and and my gosh you okay human he he was basically yelling but see John's is because he had kidney and and the only reason it's survive vibe was because dialysis three times a week we shift in six permanently disabled riders and we have about fifteen hall of fame riders there to honor them and Randy was one of those hall of fame writers and remember distinctly that Randy Randy made it a point to talk to each one of them one on one and then just sit down and talk talk to them and encourage them which you know given. Randy's background was incredible because if he was he wasn't technically but he was basically a disabled rider you know very I I know people have done a lot of good stuff and horse racing for other people and horseracing racing itself but I don't know anybody that gave more or lay down any more lives for the worse racing industry then did renew marrow and incidentally we're working to to try to get a stakes race named after him and and we think that's going to happen not ready to talk about that at this point but it was should be appropriate. Take me through those last few days trump what happened to stop and it was very lucid that day and I wrote a little bit about facebook but it was very lucid. He was still undergoing some things and deal with pain. I don't know it's like he was just destined to deal with pain. I don't know I don't know anybody at all and I've met a lot of hospital. Patients have dealt with the amount of pain that man has as long as you're still dealing with pain but he was lucid very verbal and he wanted to sit down and talk about so memories and we did and it was a touching time for me and he kinda cited each and I was gonna come back and interviewing an on camera. Actually I call it Cory Johnson with Korean. I produced a video that one the one time in nineteen eighty six. I think so called Cory Cory. What's going to pay for a TV crew to come down and filming two days later. I think I called him and you take GonNa turn for the worst and you've had three days later but that was so thankful that I got to see what he was. When he was talking you know we hugged and he talked about his life and he talked about his face and he talked about his was. A very strong family. Guy was divorced yet. One Son Randy the second and Interestingly Enough Randy Dad like twelve o three and randy the second had his his third son of like twelve hours after rainy died really yeah but the day he died. I had talked to the family and call them up on the day that afternoon. Randy Dad that night and I pray with the family and and ask them to put the phone to Randy and and let me let me pray and talk through Andy say my final advise who I little gold not even talking about that now berry but you know I probably with a lot of folks are way out but it was sure different with randy because I just know randy so so many different ways and the last words I said to him Pat Day. He has a has a phrase that I kinda bit up and says I'll stay here there or in the air and that was my word last words to randy and got a call brother. Gerald today and I'm going to funeral on the tenth down there in one of the speakers and the Monitor do that although the day's going to it looks like it's going to officiate at service which I know it's going to be hard for pat because at night both you you know talk to Randi incessantly on the phone with Lampien I had visiting several times and it was interesting interesting when I put up a facebook. Post Randy and ask for prayer five hundred people would correct for handy these solo of didn't and remember the racing racing industry is just incredible the Post I put up about my last visit with him. I think has six hundred shares so I don't what accounts given people but a lot of folks out there well. I hope he can figure out where he's going now because I read that while while he was terrific at finding the finish line. He wasn't so great when it can't driving directions anywhere else. What do you remember about that. I don't know I ridden somewhere. I don't know that that's somebody was telling me about the he is driving episode that it drove like he wrote raisins and you know it's in a sense it. Is You know some of the same things you you detect patterns where people are moving worthy opioids are seniors and get in that same and look for the next theme and I heard that Randy drove the same waste and never watched it personally but he was a very competitive person. I'd be rady was just I mean but you know despite all that competition I mean he was a pop concert racer. I'm eating where it was all the time. I don't think he ever fell on heels except when when one guy dropped on top of him and he was also as far as I know had a reputation as being a very clean writer. I don't think he was suspended though he was just any any had no. He told me that that they that I talked to him. He told me he said you nice. He said I think God just gave me a talent for this. You know I grew up with it is there was never any other thing that he ever wanted. The duo considered doing except writing racist but he was a talented guy from the beginning inside his house when I was there that he has three photos person the one saying rocket magic.

"That's son of a bitch was my best friend. Me Bruce was like hanging out. The British Bruce was kind of like a lost puppy. I was friends with his sister and high school. Bruce was a few ears behind something we'd go to the beach. In the morning. We Tell Brutus relieving at ten you know we'd leave at eight o'clock and we just leaving behind. He was too young to hang out with this. He got into wrestling business and it it was just kind of like a thing where he was a lost puppy and a friend he kind of hung around and it was just surface level stuff but raining I became really good friends and he was just intense. She's Kinda like David Schultz man. He was just like so intense. He called me up at three Logan on wicked finish your thought about pooling Elizabeth now. I think you're right eight north. Maybe I just don't know but let's talk. He called me three in the morning people that call me through moines about wrestling and be Vince and I love that Shit right yeah because that's what as my whole life so randy randy right down the beach we were together every day. We worked out in my house. Every day. We charter planes fly out or go commercial but we traveled together everywhere anywhere in the ring he solan tests and I like working kind of loose you know and and making things real easy grab on my grandmom John I'm standing for both reading and talking and taking a nice and easy but randy was so intense man when he pulled them a bald headed rip my hair out when he punched me out show Goddamn Randy any any more of those and you get one but I love working with it because he loved the business so much he was so passionate about it. I never been around anybody who was that big of a freak about twenty four seven love in this business so I had great times great matches with him. Then we had a falling out. Thank God we made up before he passed away. You know and I'm this to this only gonNA chance to barely medium. I I did a this job for him at the Orlando TV tapes when we started filming down way back in the day of course I was a So Randi walk in he had pair of jeans with patches on he's trying to be macho man. He had just a little head down like this leopard skin headbands harassed hanging out with shades agent. He didn't really has wardrobe thing together and I said WHO's the girl and expenses all his life said well if the girls with him I definitely can make this work. I just I really didn't know about him but when I saw the girl with him you know and I knew from on fuller and some guys up in Knoxville and Ronnie Randy's dad was running opposition. They said Randy was real. Intense ends in pretty good worker and just kind of stuff and I'd seen him in Memphis a couple of matches. I knew I could work with him but I had the girl I knew we could really have had a lot of liberty with the finishes and stuff like that so when I first met Randy one of the first things I did was I took him to the guy that made all the clothes for Jimi Hendrix and my rock and Roll Oh man this Guy Michael Lebron and rainy was real paranoid loses to sit up..

"Do you think listeners you think a lot of people travel by bus or train anymore do you think makayla I probably not as much by train as you were saying maybe anymore a fun way I think trade would be cool trying to be cool you know night greyhound stations always busy downtown Mindy so I think there are plenty of people who want to get across the country for you know a cheap price one of my sons friends recently took a greyhound home from his vacation but that was for a whole other reason anyway it sounds like a whole it truly is but that's for another story for another day but we're talking kind about travel headaches would you rather fly would you rather drive and you know what travel nightmares and headaches has gone through because they're out there to there's one that I thought about and it's so funny I was thinking about it had that chance to bring it up yet and my mom texted me to say you've got to talk about this one and Mindy it involves the Buckeye state and when I was eighteen I think eighth grade because the cable did not grow up here I grew up in Illinois right so with but we went everywhere until I was like fifteen by car if we were taking a long vacation so be grudgingly put trees my mother called us up today after is like you've got to talk to us and she's on the line right now to talk about this travel headache hi mom hello I can't wait to hear about this story Patrice all of your welcome I could barely get the words Buckeye lake Adam might help thank you open nine one one four we could be a very relaxing vacation thanks I know I know this is Georgia a beach and with all those that kind of thing and we start out by early in the morning and we got to I don't know where all the Buckeye they cancel because it's right next to us mom it is like on the side yeah I do a lot of it is anyway I like to say it out loud we were at all all I think it was that yeah but seventy right seventy is comfortable yes yeah I thought I feel like it was like three or four hours I may be exaggerating no I think you're right something like that with something like that she and you know every black people because the Buckeye lake apparently had that had been flat it doesn't let it out all my god very good idea I with the region by the end of that point they did a whole lot better than white I remember my dad saying I remember him saying you girls have done a great your mom not so much three girls and one eighth grade it must've been like eighth grade fifth grade and like third grand you know so our patients like I had my Walkman in the back because remember those were the days of the yeah remember the one you know we just try to get through but Buckeye lake this is the bizarre thing mom I don't hear about Buckeye lake flooding over seventy as much anymore so I wonder if they made some changes they would probably have to I'm sure if it does develop no so don't Buck I linked to my mom flashbacks and nightmares I feel was that we would see cars that had you know we get that had started two or three hours after the people we do have people that we I think people are we actually talking to probably out of range and they had left three hours later than that that they were acting in the late morning yeah we left we obviously left over like three in the morning well thanks mom it is a good story it is a great story I so the bottom line would you rather fly or drive well or near my brother Dr but had I not I would've been a flight I thought you're gonna say that the trees it's always good to talk to you thanks for calling in begrudgingly what kind of twisted your arm okay that's that's fine thanks for thanks mom you know it's funny I I think of the story that this isn't really traveling to a destination it was driving up pikes peak and it was Randi's family Randy's dad's driving Randy's in the middle because the family of eight kids so they're all packed into a station wagon Randy's dad's driving mom is on the passenger seat Randy's in the middle of an of them and Randy's dad is hanging out the window video taping it while driving the moms having a fit covering rise in Randy's wouldn't talk because you don't say anything because you don't get in trouble and that's crazy driving up pikes peak I remember one time to with my family when we were younger someone either through gum out the window and it came back in like through out the front window it came back in the back window and landed in my brother marks hair my dad just reached around and grabbed that gum right out of here to the chunky here with it can you believe that his eyes like welled up with tears and everybody felt Babbage thought he was doing the right thing I'll get that come out of your hair child I think you have to have extreme patience to go on a long trip on a flight on a drive I think you just have to get your places and before it happens because the in never inevitably something will happen my friend Katie doctor Katie Sears yeah Accrington G. is in route to Africa with her three children right now it's crazy time going to use in dental work down there I figured yeah say that for one of the of the tribes but do you think that sounds fun no I don't think it sounds fine and the worst is when you're on an airplane and there's a crying baby that just doesn't stop or wailing kid I'm like oh my gosh well and when you're on this flight and I think that's the difference on mandates the fact the flooding Zealand many and I and my longest flight has been five hours to California probably our cross country like that I have not gone overseas and when you're stuck with the same people for like twelve or thirteen hours I think that would be really hard I yeah knows Turkey that the flight there I mean I was so exhausted from just sitting in LA acts for twenty four hours I kinda just slaps the whole way there but the way back I sat next to her name remember her name anymore but she talked my ear off the entire thirteen hours now I've I mean I can tell you what she was talking about I think I'd wanna had phone and on the other side it's a good thing and a bad thing IT help probably pass the time and another party was like oh my gosh deep down I mean shut up already the first five hours because Iran so quick which was nice but it made the last eight hours that much longer should we are keeping our flying out at the end of this week to California for her last national tournament so hopefully we won't have any miss travel headaches yeah no I it was so you're gonna get there early not to get there two hours early don't tell me you're taking that right here yeah no okay good you're gonna be fine it's gonna be all good yeah I hope so and good luck to kill me this is a big one yeah yeah a fun summer of all of it yeah yeah I'm so you guys we have so many other things to talk about one is do you truly believe in the power of prayer and if you looked on our what matters with median makayla our Facebook page it's a great is if it's a group Facebook she's so close guy she so close it because we we allow entry right right out to a lab I always say it's a Facebook page that's are you still at Facebook group yeah but there've been so many comments of specific reasons why prayer has helped in people's lives we wanted to talk about that because there's something that my mom is now going through again and will the power of prayer help Yasser we have that coming up in our next segment also fun time is summer we're we're in that county fair period of time the state fairs coming up in just a couple of weeks as well but first the Franklin County fair I think just kicked off this weekend in the whole your area so we're going to talk about some exciting stuff they have going on there some different activities this year and one of your favorite people's daughters right or Iraq yes that is so correct will tell you exactly what we're talking about we have time to take Susan the caller season give a quick travel story for us yeah that's happened and nineteen seventy nine okay let on six of us my entire family to adults for kids and in nineteen seventy seven Monte Carlo it's going cross country to Carlsbad California vacation yeah yeah big time the movie was about as I swear we so much stuff it was absolutely incredible it was a great vacation looking back on it some of the stuff we did but all my gosh what happened yeah what's one of the craziest thing that happened was we were in New Mexico mom and dad told us to stay in the car they ran into this little convenience or get some you know chance the Bologna sandwiches and separate a cooler and this huge I have no idea what John in the car you want to see or can't get out of a car as quick as they care about what all it was as we could not get that we spent over an hour and a half trying to get the bugs out of car did the blood supply or was it just a crawling bug why he'd like in the morning sounds like Jurassic Park and that was so it was years ago Susan but you know what probably one of the best memories that you had because you're still talking it was it was the best vacation looking back on it some of the stuff yeah yes have a great day bye does it does to the stories that could be talking about forever around that you know dinner table at Christmas and all of those times your life right because you're dying at the time but then you're gonna look back at it one day and think do you remember when and those are the moments in the memories that we will never ever forget never forget so as you mentioned a lot to come on the show including that Franklin County fair bit without give away but coming up next minis mom facing a decision and we're talking in regard to that also about the power of prayer and what it's meant to use so if you want to tell us the story in your life how that's worked out please give us a call six one four eight two one WTVN six one four eight two one nine "Many Dreyer and Michaela, haunt with what matters. And right out of the gate. We have to say happy, Father's Day to all the dads listening to all the dads who are wonderful fathers, you are such an important part in our lives. So yet have dad's day and we have showed today that is meant for you. We really do in some of the conversations were having the giveaways. We're doing we are focused on father today. I kinda think we're going overboard more for dads than we did on mother's day where moms Michaela we do on mother's day. Exactly. Due this day. We drank mimosas. I believe we did. We had is I don't remember what giveaways, we did too many memos that probably why. But today dad's taken care of if you have dad, I mean, we have you covered some great giveaways coming up in the next couple of hours Grandpa's, too, because Grandpa's our dads as well. And they play such an important part of our lives. And you know, that's one of the things we're gonna be talking about a little later is how the dad role has changed in society that is not the traditional dad anymore by any means. No by no means an actually the New York Times something interesting in the last few days, talking about how dad is doing more than mom. If you really wanna like calculate the hours and the cultural and societal expectations for father's now that's a little overworked death. Little straps as it is, in your house does dad do more than mama Kayla. Dad does a in my house. I am not going to lie. My dad does a lot, Marcus really makes things happen, especially when I book, a million different things, and he needs to get kids to and from he does ton not at your house brand. Even does the laundry. Right. And so Marcus does the market, we evolved, we have evolved men. So I mean, I think it's possible, maybe dad's really are doing more. Oh, I have to tell you this. I tweeted this out. This was a total surprise had no idea. This was coming. You know every Sunday we go to church. Okay. Turtur messiah in Westerville. And we sit because normally walk in a little bit late because that's my middle name Mindy, late Dreyer. So we walk in I in vouch for this. I can vouch we walk into the back of the church. And I mean back by the balcony, we're sitting in the back balcony in churches going on Reverend Jim says, Randy, can you come up here brandies, like mortified because maybe like any type of attention going to him. He's like me in all the heads are turning back. You know how many people are sitting in? Like turtle Levin o'clock service, a couple of hundred me Reverend Jim says, yeah, come on down. So we're any has to get up walk down all the way to the front of the church in, I in Kyle's camera. And we're all like what's going on in these, like no idea what we're doing? Your family has no idea. What, what we're doing? But I just want to tell you congratulations on being a wonderful dad, you have to amazing kids, and you are such a role model by being a high school coach all these years. I just want to honor you for being a great. He could've picked so many different dads in today, but Randy gold out Randy, and then came a twenty five dollar gift card to Bob Evans. No kidding. Facing that is amazing. Is it something? He does every year. Do you remember him doing this before he's done little things like this before? But this was the first time on Father's Day. I can remember him doing this. And so I was really touched and really proud that Randy was the one selected in. Yeah deserve Dan, but he is. And I think he's been a father figure to a lot of kids through coaching, and that's exactly what Jim said, Tim Wilson is the minister at the head minister at west cya, and he's referee. And he kind of made reference to. And he still likes you. Yeah. Well, he does girls games. Oh, that's like. He's still likes Randy's game. But I thought that was a cool way to start the day church. And then having Randy dad father husband get called to the front of the church and saying, hey, congratulations on the job well done. That's amazing and he deserves it. I was I was happy for them. Marcus day has not been his own. He hasn't. I feel bad for him. I wish I could give him one of the giveaways heat. Logan served at church this morning. So Marcus had to take him there while I took Christian Christians recital. Christian headed dance recital today. Hip hop, and sewed cute. I mean the boys did a great job and Marcus of all the way from the Hilliard area downtown to seek to sit for an hour and a half an hour and forty five minutes until Christian went Columbus dance arts academy had their recital this weekend. And then afterwards Christian was starving. I just feel like Marcus hasn't gotten to do a lot of what he wanted to do today, but he's been so gentle and easy going about it. Because that's. Him going, but hold on. And you know, this as parents, one of the best things we can do is watch our kids. So watch Christian was in its own Father's Day gift. And I bet you he was beaming because Christians adult baby anyway. Hip hop. Around fun. Was that? Did you video of it? I do have. Yes, I have a little bit of any of it. We weren't supposed to take video, you know, because that's the way they make their money. You broke the rules. No. He broke the rule. I was gonna say Michaela. Oh, yeah. Doll baby. I mean doll baby had on makeup. Oh my gosh. Looks like Shirley temple you go to my mom that. Because remember when my mom called him a little girl this idea? She would harm. You're getting text. We've got Casey on the line with us to talk about fathers day. Casey, welcome to what matters high yesterday. What, what my son and I do now and my twin. So what we did this last Sunday was we all got down on got his. Done. He got his nails. It was so much fun. So it was a dad and daughter pedicure date, is that correct? Manscaping. So would you recommend most? This is funny, because we have Michaela son in makeup, dancing, and getting a pedicure. How fun would you recommend? Casey, dad should try to get a pedicure. At least once my, my dad does like hobby twice every month and he walks it really does. See, I guess, say my husband has never done a pedicure. And if you would see his toes he needs it. How old is that? Many years, overdue Casey, we're going to suggest this to Randy Korda cracks. Thank you for being confident is manhood to do it. I love it actually happy, Father's Day to any dads out there, getting pedicures with their daughters. What a neat idea. That's something we would think a mother's day gift would be, you know, mom taking the daughters out of the daughters. Taking the moms out for pedicures manicures. But now I mean it's super relaxing. Yeah. Do them normally do pedicures. I know what I haven't been doing them as much and I know you don't either you don't go. You don't go. I like slap some fingernail polish on my toenails, and I go, so I can wear sandals and not look weird. That's usually what I do our time thing. But hey, you know what if you have a Father's Day story, please do share? Let us know what you and your dad did, or if your dad and you did something specific with your son or your daughter. Let us know the phone number is six one four. Eight to one WTVN six one four eight two one nine eight six is a number to call. We love talking Father's Day deal. We do. And so I mentioned we have giveaways. Coming up one coming up this hour. Great story out of grove city and Donut shop and stepdad or soon to be dad. Really sweet story. Dragon donuts, he'll be a giveaway. We'll have coming up towards the end of the show today. Can't wait to share some of that with you dad's in donuts. They kind of go together do and another interview that's coming up. Pretty soon is one of our favorite people that we have on this show. What matters is William White, as you know, he's a former football player and dealing with a LS. He was recently honored this week for being the twenty nineteen inspirational award for getting this award for the fellowship Christian athlete. Yeah. It's a branch of that in team is what it's called. And Jim tressel was there. Meyer was there. A lot of dignitaries were there, just honoring William White and the person that he is. So guess. Who's going to talk to us in a few minutes and not pretend like he's being pulled over by the cops this time you remember that I do I like literally side-splitting laughter over it because I thought he was serious. He's like he'll pull a fast one. You will, and I was just laughing at the time thinking are you kidding also? It's summer guys. So I know you're looking for things to do places to go. However, you do not have to leave our great state of Ohio. There are so many things to do and so many places to see. Was his replacement that was in one thousand nine hundred Charles Osgood. Has now moved on that. That's one of my favorite TV shows because if you've ever watched it, they're not just talking about politics. The news of the day, they go and do a little a lot of in depth stuff different kinds of stories that you don't see very often. I've always enjoyed the program. Of course Charles Osgood. For years, we had his commentaries right here on the Stephen Ted show in the mornings, but he is retired. And I remember when I first started. Cayenne ish Charles Osgood. Was in town, and I get to meet Charlie at a cocktail party and spend a little time. Talking with Mr. Osgood. I'll tell you what one on one just a delightful guy. Fun to talk to very personable nineteen Ninety-four he took over for Charles kuralt. And it was talking about the war there in Manila and all of that. And and the siege of Manila, and I got I got a Email from a friend of mine lifelong friend Steve void, and he had been he'd been talking. He got a text from Randy Simon. Now, if assignment Randy's dad is Freddie Freddie's, right? All right. Well, apparently, Freddie was what the story is Freddie was in a group that recaptured the hotel in Manila where MacArthur had his headquarters before the Japanese took the island. Oh my God. I think the MacArthur had the top floor. This is this is swing kissed hotel. It entire Pacific at one time Christian by the time. They got there. The second time it was demolished.
