"Have a crash on northbound Route 28 before Nokes Boulevard I think they cleared that and then really never did cause any delay Bob Inlet WTO p traffic it's time to check in now with WTO p meteorologist Steve Prince Valley he is standing by and tell us all about what we're dealing with tonight in terms range Steve hi Demeter yeah we have a number of warnings to discuss the first one is a severe thunderstorm warning goes for um oh say another 25 minutes until 815 for southeastern Carroll central Howard and southwestern Baltimore counties that's a storm Veronica was mentioning up in the Ellicott City area right packing now a punch with some very heavy rain and a lot of lightning in that area too so certainly lightning some gusty winds drenching downpours expected and uh you know some hail as well with this storm as it can you continues to move kind of in a in a northeastward fashion about 15 miles an hour so you know look out some of these communities like Randallstown and as you head towards Marriottsville for instance right along I -70 connecting to the Baltimore Beltway. Then we also have the severe thunderstorm warning for uh central or south central Loudon and southwestern Prince William County until eight o 'clock tonight. We're watching that storm as well that is uh near the Arcola area and moving in a northeastward fashion as well so look out Sterling, University Center, Cascades the for instance for drenching downpours from that. And finally flash flood warning until 9pm for our friends in southeastern Loudon that have gotten slammed with heavy rain three to four inches in communities like Leesburg, Dulles, Sterling, South Riding so this storm moving over an area that doesn't need any more rainfall and unfortunately that's what we will see plus severe thunderstorm watch meaning the potential is there of seeing some more storms up till 11pm so we're inside and away from those and keeping it locked to WTOP. As we head through the night the showers and thunderstorms will gradually diminish patchy fog overnight into the 60s to mid 70s a lot of clouds tomorrow humid day with a more chance of storms rather in the afternoon evening mid to upper 80s probably middle 80s will do it with another risk of storms on Sunday. Right now it is 74 after the cooling storm in Aldi and Lanham is 81. about a .25 1 so that's about the size of a quarter quarter size hail being reported there and we've already had reports of some half dollar size hail in loudoun county enough to do some damage so if We've got the latest this morning now on some tense hours at Bowie High School, which was under a lockdown for about three hours this week Wednesday after an armed person was apparently spotted near the school. Nobody was hurt. 17 year old student is under arrest this morning. Bowie police tell WTOP the student in question had what looked like a long barrel rifle, but was actually an airsoft pistol. Police did an exhaustive search of the high school Wednesday shut down roads accident. for The student was taken to the hospital for a time, a reported taking the person into custody around 3 30 in the afternoon in a neighborhood near the school. Students were then allowed to go home. The teenage student will face charges in the case. It's high another school side student. It is spiking these days. The city saw its 100th homicide just this week. It's the the earliest the district has hit that mark in 20 years. It is indeed a grim milestone. memory of Bowser recently spoke out against the violence that has plagued the district in recent years Tuesday. D. C. Saw its year. We're focused, of course, on closing gaps in In the the law, looking at what we can do better administratively and making sure that we have programs and police officers that are engaging our young people. It is focused on public safety. the crash cams to people who spend a lot of time behind the wheel. Mayor Muriel Bowser says they'll be going to rideshare and food delivery drivers. Solemn day for a lot of people, Of course, everyone here in America and what we went through 20 years ago, and everybody remember exactly where you were and what you were doing. I was in Randallstown and just another normal day at the auto repair shop walking through, uh, I have a T V on and the and the In the waiting room. A couple customers are in there, you know, in the waiting room, waiting for their vehicles to be completed, and I'm going back and forth between the counter and the shop and I I see what looks to be some type of building on fire as I'm walking by and I'm looking at one of the guys in the waiting room is white as it ghost. So I said, you know, Jim, Jim, what's going on? He says the World Trade Center has been hit. Now may not knowing any better. I thought he meant Baltimore because, of course, we have a World Trade Center in Baltimore. And at the time I couldn't see the TV well to see that there were two towers. I only saw the one So I thought it was Baltimore. And, of course, New York. Bad enough situation there. Of course we're having. But being that close about my goodness gracious that happened right here in Baltimore. And then, of course, a few moments later realized it was New York City, But it was, uh it was. It was a horrible, horrible morning, everything everything. Stopped that morning, and I'll never forget it. Um, I was too young to completely remember the JFK assassination. I was eight years old and I remember being let out of school early. And going home, and I was confused. Once again. I'm confused a lot. When it comes to things like this. I thought it was the principle that was shot. I didn't realize it was the president. I misunderstood at school. So that was interesting conversation with my mom. When I got home to find out it was not the principal And, uh, you know, it's just you remember where you were. You remember things happening like this and it's just something that we really we have to put behind us. However, we also have to remember. And teach the generation who was not around to remember what happened or they weren't around at all and teach them so hopefully something like this can never happen again in our country. I have a 2000 and seven GMC Acadia, okay? And I was coming home from work one day. And My art the rpm. We're weapon very hot. Okay? And I was doing I was going down the road during 35. It was going in about 4000 rpm. Okay. Was it accelerating the vehicle at the same time? No. Okay? And After I got home or right before I got home. I live without maybe seven miles from my job. Right before I got home. I started hearing a knock him in the engine. Mhm. My son is a jazz for engine. It's not a factory motor. It suggests ranking, okay. My son works on cars all the time. And he told me he would not touch this cars. Then I would have to replace the engine and the transmission. He may be right. It may need a heart and lung transplant. Um may the reason why he's saying that is you. Your vehicle went high up and RPMs, which unfortunately, probably caused the engine damage that you have. But the reason why it may have gone up without having any acceleration. That's why I asked you. That is if the transmission goes bad. Let's say, for example, you're driving down the road. You've got your foot on the gas and you're RPMs are right around 1800 to 2000 RPMs because your transmission is doing fine. But if your transmission slips in the neutral and all of a sudden your engine starts to rep Now. One other cause that may not have anything to do with the transmission. It could have something to do with the idol. The idol may have done that, on its own, It may have gone up. But that would usually cause the vehicle to start taking off, too. Meaning that you're doing 40 Miles an hour and all of a sudden it starts to rev up. And if you don't have your foot on the brake you're doing 50 60 65 70 that quick. So that if that did not happen Then chances are your son is right. The transmission slipping was the cause of the high acceleration or the high RPMs and the RPMs is what took out the motor. So you could go to all the trouble to replace the engine in this vehicle. And then when you get it all together, find out the transmission now has a problem causing the high reps and you have to replace the transmission, too. I'm just I'm just full of good news today, aren't I? Wow, It's between you and yeah, for America. Yeah, my day that much better between you and Ed. I'm not. I'm not helping either one, unfortunately, but And both vehicles are in the same situation. One of them to his was an older vehicle. 93 years of the 2000 and three but had it 7 2000 and seven. I apologize, but you still have a 14 year old vehicle. And if you have to replace both engine and trans now, is there any warranty left on the Jasper engine? No. Okay. I bought it from. I bought it from me. My husband bought it from a used car dealers. Okay, that's back in 2000. 2011. I believe Gotcha. Well, and I mean, it isn't it isn't Jasper's fault at the engine failed because again, high high revs will do that. If an engine, you know, get hit higher revs like that. It can damage the engine. So right, right. It's gonna be a It's gonna be a tough call that Yeah, it's gonna be a tough call. Unfortunately, Christie to decide what to do with the good news is your son is a mechanic. Maybe he can help you out, but engine and transmission replacement. Just the cost of those two parts. Even going used is going to be a little healthy and you know you have you have to be concerned about used on a 14 year old vehicle, So there are some concerns out there. It's only got 162,000 miles on it. That's not bad. But the problem is that most of the vehicles in the yard in the recycle yard that you were getting engines and transmissions for Okay, are going to have higher knowledge to because they're 14 years old 160,000. Miles is in a lot of miles. You're only talking about 12,000 miles a year. The problem is, of course, the other vehicles. In the recycle yards right now are in the same boat. Which means you're gonna be getting an engine and a transmission. Adam, a vehicle that probably has close to the same miles you have on yours, right? So I'd be better off another vehicle. A lot of people on the radio land think that I talk about Japanese cars and sometimes lean towards them. I do because they are the best quality out there. Now. That doesn't mean that American cars or not, you've got your three brands that everybody's familiar with General Motors, Ford and Chrysler. And there, you know all their little subsidiaries and and they do really well, but still the best quality vehicles out on the market, In my opinion, are still your Toyotas and your Hondas and your Subaru's in your Nissan's. They are very good quality. They usually Hold up very well and they've got good service records. Now you mentioned a rap for it's an excellent vehicle. The Subaru Outback is also an excellent vehicle. S so it depends if you want it all will drive. You know, Subaru only makes all wheel drive vehicles and they're very well made. And they have good longevity. So you really can't go wrong with any of the ones you've mentioned. And I do recommend them. Yeah, Let me ask you another truth. How far back what I have to go in terms of age to get get one of those vehicles that would have a CD player. CD player probably have to go back to maybe, like 13 4014. They probably still had him then and then they after that, they pretty much have gotten rid of them. So, ah, a CD player still available? Probably up to about maybe the early 3000 tens 12, right right around there. Okay. And another thing the you can't have. You can't have one added by the way. Just say, you know, you can tell me Ask about that. How is it? You mean by the by the dealer or by somebody after helping the sound sound solutions that we have in our, you know, preferred repair facilities. Harmony, sound solutions and also Michael's automotive and Randallstown that they they installed CDs and DVD players in addition to the car, so they can Adam for you. Okay. Then it is to get the factory ones because factory ones did have problems with six disk CD changer. Is everyone so all had problems? As I mentioned on the radio a number of times I guarantee you when it was possible for manufacturers to eliminate CD players. They probably all jump for joy and did a jig at the factory because they really are tough to keep working properly in cars. Essentially the other thing I've been in a Honda Accord and the seats there seem a little bit low, and I'm wondering how that would compare with seats in the Outback, for example. The Outback, because all will drive probably a little bit higher. If you want the highest seats in the industry where you feel like you're sitting up a little bit in a passenger car, the answer would be Toyota Avalon. Okay. Okay. Good. Are those 12 Avalon says we had one for years. It was great. Are they? Nothing strange, very strong car. Nothing's changed there still a very good quality vehicle. Okay. Talk more. Darlene and Randallstown. How can we help you? Hi. I have a quick question. My father was in a nursing home, and I'm actually still waiting for the paperwork. I never received anything that he possibly signs. Something over or some some type of information, But cognitive wise, he was not of sound mind. I believe, And so my question then would be. Is this legal because I have no daughter, So I have no Proof or anything that could have been signed by him at the time. Unfortunately, he's since passed. So I'm just trying to find out. I'm trying to acquire the paperwork and anything from the home that he was in. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience. And so that's for another conversation. I'm sure but I'm just saying Legally, All right, Candace, Candace. Hi, Darlene At the time were you appointed as power of attorney for your father? Yeah. Okay. And is the paperwork you're talking about, Like a Medicaid application or in it or a nap Litigation for admission to the facility. What is it that you know? He was He was he was in one facility. And then from the facility. He was then the care of it. He had to actually be admitted to the hospital after the hospital stay. He went to a different facility because I wasn't sending him back. Cause he was not in a condition that we put him in. When he came out the second facility he was put into. He then has to be put back into the hospital. He was admitted. And then records showed that he had, you know certain issues. Whatever. But I'm trying to get the medical paperwork to find out While he was in there. He coded stopped us from everything. Because obviously he couldn't go in so we couldn't see it care. We couldn't see how he Woz. Um And then you know the 14 day quarantine with each place, you know, they would put him on a 14 day quarantine. And then from there I was, then get a call saying somebody has coded my chance to even go near him. See him kept getting fun. Because the cove it and because of staff situations, but anyway, so now, unfortunately, of course, you know, he says they're so I'm trying to obtain paperwork. Because I'm finding out that possibly he might have signed something. But obviously I'm learning to. This is new to me that I lose power of attorney when they pair That's right. That's right. That's how it's going to tell you that I'm a power of attorney is no longer valid once, right? You're it Once your father died. So now you have are you appointed as his personal representative in his will. Well, that's just it. So now I'm going through possible any type of Situation. I don't know litigation, you know, with these homes and what's his care? And so I'm just trying to find out You know, as a daughter, And if that well, some data that we would need, Yeah. I mean, we just by virtue of being you know, the daughter does not gonna Authorize you to get the information. But if you are am named as the executor of the personal representative In his will, or if there's no will, but you can still be appointed that then you would be given. It's kind of like an after death power of attorney. It's called letters of administration and that would authorize you most likely to get all this information that you're looking for. So then, if my view obviously is still alive, that has that can I be like? Can I assist her in getting obtaining this information? Yeah. If she be personal representative, she she's the one who has to request it, but you have to open up in the state to be appointed you, but it's hard to be appointed. If Darlene is second as the executor and the well the mom could resign and make darling primaries so she doesn't have to go through Mom. That's true. She okay? That's just something to talk to the people. The estate plan, or, you know the one about whoever wrote the Will You want to talk to him? But if Mom's first she could resign, and if your second you automatically become it, and then you don't have to worry about having Mom do things and you sit there and culture along the way. You're talking all the dash lights. Yeah, all the day. Okay. All the dads like this, where any interior lights blinking or just the dash lights. Um You don't know the interior lights were I mean, they went, they went them and then they got bright and they went dark completely. So the interior lights too, not just the dash lights, but the interior lights also Well, I don't even know about the interior lights. We were driving. They wouldn't have gone, you know? Okay. All right. You know the dash. Okay, that I knew, but outside most she was driving so I could tell That? Well, the front legs were fine. Alright, greed and the back lights were alone. You know, I was looking around, but the inside Well, this is what I'm thinking. One of two things either one. It's just the dash lights which could be possible, okay? And if it is just a dash lights You have a, uh Resister that allows you raise and lower the brightness of the dash lights. Okay, There's usually a novel the dashboard or part of the headlight switch that does that. If that's the case, then that could be going bad that resist her. That switch could be going bad. So that may need to be replaced. Or this is the scary part. But I don't think it is because you told me that headlights look good. All right. If the battery is having a problem of the vehicle, it can cause that, But I think the whole problem is related to that resister that turns the dash lights up and Lower on brightness, and I think that's going bad. Yeah, I think that's going bad. So I don't think it's anything serious to worry about. Get that taking a look at that can be replaced. Yeah, OK, then. That's what I'm going to do. I've got a nice little shop around the corner, but the big pencil under warranty. You know, cases something big, You know? So I let them tell me what they think it is. And maybe what would warrant would warranty or you under I think she's got like 100 100,000 miles warranty on those that bumper to bumper. Maybe, but I would doubt that Did she buy the vehicle? New Yeah, she bought a brand new. Well, then she has a 100,000 mile warranty on the engine and transmission, but not not bumper to bumper. OK, OK, unless they gave her some special deal at the dealership with the car that I'm not aware of where you could check with them. But I believe the warrant is called a powertrain warranty, which only includes the engine and transmission. So for this would not be covered again. Check with a dealer to make sure I don't know the whole deal on the information. I want to give you wrong information, but the factory warranty that just received the factory warranty from Hyundai. In 2012. You've got a four year 60,000 Mile bumper to bumper warranty, But four years and your vehicles of 2012, but she did get the extended war deals. Okay, well, that's what I'm saying. She may have some kind of additional warranty to that, then check with the dealer to see if it's covered. If it's not covered, Then I'd recommend an independent shop.
