"On the western side of the Indian subcontinent, there is a city called Puna with an estimated population of seven million people. It's the eighth largest population center in India. As the informational technology capital of the country known as the Oxford of the East due to many universities and technical schools scattered throughout the city. At the near center of the city on the Bank of the Muto River is a majestic eighteenth century fort called Shawnee war water. was home to some of India's greatest warriors and politicians as well as some of its most dangerous betrayals. The death and destruction tied to the fort has left behind shadows Phantom pushes and pulls and disembodied voices crying out for help. These spirits are the last remnants of the Fort's storied history as a series of fires have ravaged the building itself. In order to understand the loss experienced by both these spirits and the culture they came from one has to die far back into Indian history. If South Asia can be defined by anyone conflict. It's the region's ongoing religious wars between Hindus and Muslims long before the British and Portuguese arrived and exacerbated these problems the countries we now know as India and Pakistan were divided into smaller kingdoms who fought for religious and cultural dominance. Who is Alex Cintrón, the Astros hitting coach who instigated brawl with the A's?

"Brawl in baseball yesterday. Ramona Reynaud went right after Alex Cintron, who is the head coach for the Houston Astros, And this whole thing was bizarre to Maine. We know that there is a beef between the athletics and the Astros. Mike Fires used to pitch for the Astros was on the on the athletic still is on Lorraine. Oh, gets hit twice in the Siri's that the 2nd 1 I didn't see the first of the 2nd 1 was not intentional. But he was walking to first base is so John boy pretty much tryingto figure out what was going on. And I guess Laredo was trying to tell the picture had to throw the ball. Cintron asked, get suspended from saying his name correctly, If now I apologize, but the bench the hitting coach has to get suspended, has to get a lengthy suspension. Because he is basically egging on Lorraine. Oh, who's at first base? And it was gutless. What the hitting coach did he goes? Oh, yeah. You come over here You come over here. The guys 41 years old, if this is not A 60 70 80 year old heading coach. This is not who is the Mets pitching coach? That's your Phil Regan. This's not him or or the late. Great Don Zimmer with Pedro Martinez, where you see potentially an older person get thrown to the ground. That was not this. This a 41 year old yellow Nazareno basically, Tom come over and fight him, and he did the ultimate Gutless move off. I'm going to tell you to come fight me. But the minute when you take a step forward three for my players are going to step in front of me. And then I'm going to become Mr Hold me back, bro. Type of guy. That's the worst person in a fight. Someone that instigates the fight and then doesn't throw the punch and doesn't actually fight when someone comes charging at you because of you just being ridiculous in the dugout. That guy doesn't get popped if Joe Kelly gets it with what it was an eight game suspension. If this is it, the heading coach here for the Astros doesn't get At least eight games, then that's ridiculous. Albay have no clue how to figure this out. They'll mess it up. Did you agree with that? Then we have a heading coach, basically telling Laredo to come over and fight him. Or Laureano. Excuse me. To come over and fight him. And then he lets what 34 of his players take care of it that was weak. Yeah, it's weak and it's like extra dumb when the league is begging you not to have a bench clearing altercations, and then you instigate won as a coach, not even a player for seemingly I don't even understand the reason. And it even begins. So, yeah, you would think he's going to be in big, big trouble, too. We

Oh Yeah I, am part of an there are people can talk to about this and You know it's just it's amazing. How much the blessings of Ramadan can continue with us, but at the same time. How. I genuinely appreciated the level of ability, because it's not necessarily easy to just share your experiences to people. You don't know to audiences you don't know and. Sources: NBA board expected to OK restart plan

"So Peter was rusty so I got a couple tweets here the N. B. is planning a Thursday vote of the board of governors with an expectation that owners will approve Adam silver's recommendation on a format to restart the season in Orlando sources tell ESPN owners of large are largely planning to pledge support for silver's final recommendation on a plan which teams expect to include invitations for twenty to twenty two teams to resume the season sources tell him in Ramona and Zach Lowe so so basically what this means is the owners are leaving it up to Adam silver to create the best possible plan and then they're going to get they have given his their full support to him and earlier you know some stories of leaked out about certain owners like Michael there's a story from Shonda said that Michael Jordan said that he didn't want his team participating in meaningless games which you know which with the help which basically they've all been under his wing but it's you know compared to what baseball is doing the owners trusts Adam silver to say this is the best possible plan this is the safe the safest thing we can do this would get the most bang for our Buck and to have the the best resolution to add an end to a regular season in the playoffs and will vote on this on Thursday and they're going to approve it because they trust Adams over and then they'll be a start date

Nowhere To Hide Nothing To Hold

"Let's jump into the discussion around the Zenko on that was shared in the last podcast episode. It goes like this elder ting is to lean cheesy master. What is the great meaning of Buddha's teachings lean? She came down from his seat slapped teeing and pushed him away. Team was stunned and stood motionless among nearby said teen. How at that moment teen attained. Great Enlightenment so I want to share a couple of thoughts around this specific on because I think it has a deeper meaning at least for me. It carries a couple of deep lessons. I WANNA share some of the thoughts from the Patriarch podcast community and Share some of the insight that I gained from reading other people's thoughts around this so Ramona said to me when Lynch she came down from his seat slapping and pushing king. He was answering his question of the great meaning of Buddha's teachings which is enduring suffering when the monk nearby assumed he got slapped because he did not bow team became enlightened because in that moment he realized he should invite and bow to the suffering to welcome it. Then give it respect. Perhaps that's the great meaning of Buddha's teaching. I like Ramona's thoughts on this especially the correlation between the answer to the question the great meaning of the Buddhist teachings. We know that the Buddha taught about suffering we know that he taught you know the four noble truths are the truth of satisfactory nece Duca which is often translated to suffering the truth of the cause of unsatisfactory. Nece the truth about the cessation of unsatisfactory. Nece the truth about the path that leads to the cessation of this unsatisfactory. Nece or Duca as it was called so in a nutshell. Yes the if you were to ask someone. What is the meaning of the Buddhist teachings? It's certainly centers. Around this sense of unsatisfactory. We could call it suffering that times and I do think that when we think about it that way it is kind of interesting that this master would come down and give the answer to what is the great meaning by slapping and pushing him away essentially causing team to experience and that moment probably some unsatisfactory nece or some suffering That's fun to think about. A new Ska says quote as others have said I too felt that the being slapped and pushed away as a representation of What we do when we face suffering it works on two levels for me suffering slaps in the face and we push it away but also suffering does the pushing away by interrupting US and separating us from our experience I was also taken by the last piece Why do you not bow? I interpreted that as meaning. The teen didn't bow to the teacher. Not that he should have and that in this act he didn't give reverence to the suffering. Someti- I sometimes wonder about how much time and effort we give to feeling suffering Is it excessive? And what is the right effort? We need to put into truly move past it close quote and I like what Anouchka sharing here as well and the correlation that she brings out with the concept of of of bowing to the suffering. And that's something. I want to discuss a little bit later with with my thoughts around this Cohen. Really quick share matthews thoughts. He says quote my first reaction to this Cohen was to think of how I very often asked questions knowing what I want. The answer to be that is. I'm not hoping to get an answer. But just validation of what I already think. The answer is much like the student who's Cup is two full of tea to get any from the master. Teeing I think did not get the answer he was expecting and the other monk was saying teeing. You ask a question and you got the answer. Why are you not bowing to think the master? It reminded me that I need to be more open to the answers to questions. And also that maybe I do already know the answer. Deep down inside close quote and I enjoy matthews thoughts a lot on this topic The correlation between the story of the Cup being full and certainly the concept of asking questions. Sometimes just to get validation about the answer. We think that we're we already have or that. Were going to get. I think we all do that from time to time And this is a whole different approach right. The he certainly didn't get the answer. He was expecting and ironically. That's what led to his enlightenment at least in this Cohen right so I think there's something to be learned there that often the thing that we're looking for it won't get us the thing that we want but sometimes getting the thing that we weren't expecting can get us the thing that we We were actually after in the first place. That's Kinda fun mental correlation and last. I WANNA share Nancy's thoughts who says quote I see this co on as a role play of the First Noble Truth Life at times will slap you in the face and push you away and instead of bowing and walking away which seems to have been. His common reaction teen paused stood motionless saw and pain for what it was a slap in a push. Nothing more close quote.

Corona Personas: Real Housewives Edition

"Have a segment that I have duh corona. Personas out of your head and it's GonNa get that is my new favorite Hashtag Corona Persona and a lot of these not only housewives. But you know our our nearest and dearest celebs of our rights of all elks has been taking the the interwebs and developing some real corona personas. Yeah it's like some of your friends are are like the alarmist they're like other people are like doing their memes and their jokes. We've got it all and the housewives have not disappointed in your reactions. I would also like to shout out a listener of ours and someone who is follow on twitter. Who's hilarious and she has been just like diving into see. Where all the house where Casey and I were sending little things back to enforce to each other what the house is doing. But this person has taken it. To a new level I wanted to shout at Kendra James. She's really funny so take a look at her stuff. So one corona persona that has emerged is Ms Ramona singer and she quote feels fortunate to be an isolation with EX HUSBAND. Mario Singer after he cheated six years ago. They are hunker down though they are at a beautiful Italian dinner. The two of them sharing a nice bottle of red. Just really hunkered down there. Are they having sex? Danielle for sure they have always had a very sexual relationship. Yeah so I think. In the time of pandemic they are moving to towards one another. And have you also noticed? Her Corona Persona is stretched like not only. Has she done something to her face? But her the way that she's shooting or her filter has is like a blurry stretch. And there's something going on with that. We all want a vertical stretch. Yeah it now corresponds. Yeah it's a strange like stretch or filter. But I will say. It seems that they are all in Boca. Raton my hometown. I'm playing cards. H You're parks shows a beautiful photo with gorgeous sons and it is liked by one. Kathy Kelly. She says day one of being Hashtag home has shed. School has shag. Mom has shut principal. Hashtag I love. My Son's teaching is not my ministry. God May grant all the MOMS DADS and caretakers patients in grace during this quarantine. Godsend a village. How Shaka Rona how? Iko But nineteen now another corona persona. That I appreciate is Cynthia Bailey. Los Angeles: Kobe & Gianna Bryant — A Celebration Of Life

"Eighty Kobe Bryant superstar in the NBA obviously will be a whole Famer among the twenty thousand at staples center for Monday's celebration of life a who's who of the basketball world surely wasn't lost on folks over the first four speakers at the memorial but as a Bryant Diana Taurasi Sabrina Ionescu you and your family trump is not a clear message of just how much women's basketball become part of the Bryan family life an emotional day overall though just intensely from the undefeated if it looks motional on television it would have been a hundred times more in person people in the crowd were hugging each other people in the crowd crying initially during the actual ceremony like nobody nobody knew there was a sense of excitement there was a sense of shock remember also sent you wouldn't it would be actually walked onstage that I've heard rumors that she might be performing but I don't know if you're actually going to perform but the energy throughout it was reported in these also very sad that this which felt like the up by now would be if at least one part of the grieving process and there wasn't a dry eye in the house from the press row where I was at did the men and women and the kids who were in it and it over twenty thousand people every year which is one of the most emotionally draining but it also depends on beautiful experience of my life that was the feeling at staples on Monday as for the cloud that's been over LA for the past month all Ramona Shelburne is in Los Angeles it's actually more of Toby the last month right and we have he retired a vintage bike everywhere everywhere you go it's photos of him and videos of him I work where we're playing his words will playing games or you know you drive right away that the girls everywhere there there's there's like over eighty murals of Kobe in Los Angeles Kobe and Eugene G. N. L. I mean it's like it's everywhere you go and so I mean it's it's interesting because like you know on the one hand you know it's like he's gone in your and you already feel like them all out you know we we miss them and and you know there's the processing of that tragedy but on the other hand it's like I don't know that human beings can exist in a place where we feel this bad for that long right like you know when you're in that green apple apple first week it was like everybody felt so bad and it was like everywhere you went you would view photos and videos and like I actually think some people might like it too much right it's hard every human being to process that level of badness go back to that first game I think kinda help people move forward afterwards because it was like the first game Stanton it's like the last couple weeks it's it's been like you know you you kind of got back your life right we've had you know a lot and then there been meaningful basketball games have normal conversations and then today cool it was white everything felt all over again right especially when and I don't know everybody had different reactions said today by I I'm never going to forget but nothing blank any up there doing that like I mean I don't even just seeing her walk up to the fate I just started crying I was like oh my god the remote and that's kind of the jumping off point that I'm in all watching and the point that you made afterwards was you know a lot of this was also discovering the power of this woman because for so long she was never in the limelight by her choice and also will be probably fulfilling that you said in terms of protecting our children from the aggressive media that want to get to know the goats other half and so in a way this is her kind of showing us this power of this of this person on such a tragic stage right yeah I'm not able to put it like look I I know Vanessa from you know thank let her in the hallway outside the locker room right you know she he went he was always nice that allow she was like she's a mom you know like every time I saw her she had to have two little girls brings honor you know it needs repairing related values games will be like ten o'clock at night like the girls are falling asleep right so she could she would like them to do and mom stuff and I mean I can relate to that rate like you know home you know you just you know you want to say hi and you guys like I got the sleeping baby on my shoulder you know so she you know she's kind of bed that that woman for a long

So by invoking and practicing the greatest indigenous in his core values of all self-governance the crater gifted tribal nations with certain inalienable rights among them the right to steward word and draw nourishment from our traditional homelands cultivate extraordinary potential of our youth develop thriving economies that that provide opportunity for all of our people and manage our own affairs and control our own destinies as my mentor former Cornell leader in NCI CIO president Joe Delacruz so perfectly captured it. No right is more sacred to a nation to a people then the right to freely determine its social economic political and cultural future without external interferences the the fullest expression of this right is when a nation freely governs itself. Kobe Bryant's Life and Legacy

"Star Kobe Bryant was killed in helicopter crash. In calabasas California Bryant was forty one eight others including his thirteen year old daughter. Jonah died in the accident. Tributes have been pouring in for the Lakers legend. We all feel a deep sense. A loss us for woody meant to all of us in so many ways in so many millions of people loved him for so many different reasons and this was a man for all he was more than iconic a basketball player he was someone who inspired millions of fans. All over the world. Today is is one of the saddest days Malaysia. You seems like a bad. The Badgering One Waco is a nightmare today. We're joined by. ESPN's Ramona Shelbourne. Who covered Bryant for fifteen years? Ramona where are you right now. You know I'm sitting in my car outside the Mamba Academy in thousand oaks and There's like hundreds of people here putting flowers down just kind of trying to cope with the news here and this is the academy. He started Where he was on his way here For a basketball game and he was here all the time. Those folks there's a lot of people who no I'm just seeing a lot of young women walking walking up and down the street just sad wearing their koby. Jerseys I think everyone in Los Angeles right now really around the world but especially early right here where Kobe's been. He was a young man when he was drafted by the Lakers and so he became a man here he became an old man here he he retired here. People feel like they knew their whole life. And so I've been kind of all over today going to the crash site and seeing that helicopter after still smoldering on the hillside With Laker fans and just not even Laker fans. Just everybody knew who heard about it. People kind of needed to go. Oh and witnesses to see to believe that it was true and even then honestly it doesn't feel like it really happened. When did you first hear the news you know I was? It was home playing with my son this morning and My friend just got an alert on her phone she she wears an apple. Watch and dot an alert when TMZ posted the story story. And and I dropped my phone and I started calling everybody that I knew close to Kobe to go into reporter mode. Because you've got to confirm remit and find out what happened and what's going on here and it was right about eleven thirty when when this all happened so immediately like I think I'm shaking when I heard this and it's it's really hard to process that Kobe's gone and then to find out how many other people are gone along with him with his daughter daughter. Jonah G. G. God he was always telling me about G G. He was so so proud of her like he was always picturing her in the WNBA. You know she's already verbally. Committed to uconn right. I mean he was so proud of her and they love talking basketball it she had that same drive and ferocity that he did and you can just tell how how much he was beaming about her and over the years especially since he's been retired like Kobe and I've stayed in touch and connected you know as we're about the same image right we. We have respect for each other professionally. But I think it's become a more more of a friendship since he retired is always telling me about his kids like that's what he was doing now. You know he either whenever I would never call him he was always at the office working or at one of his kids. Basketball Games or choir practices or something with kids like an an and like that was his life right now and I can't believe at forty one that his life is over. I you know I actually told them at one point like hey man enjoy retirement. Slow down a little bit like you're you're in the office all the time you're working and She just had so much that he was doing. And I'm glad he didn't slow down. You know we have a lot that he's written and said and done to to remember him by and I think his legacy will only grow with time Ramona Ramona. When the news broke there were a lot of conflicting reports confusion about who was on the helicopter? We now know that Kobe's three other daughters in his his wife s Were not in the accident when you got to Calabasas. What'd you learn? Well you know initially I talked to some of the residents. There's there's a couple of apartment buildings around there and some some people who had heard and seen the crash and one man told me he saw he he heard the helicopter are any solid flying low. And then you just heard this falling sound and he knew something was really wrong and he he. He had been on the phone at the time so he went outside and saw all the smoke and the brushfire when they like. This happens like everybody wants answers. Everybody wants to know like was it. The fog the weather conditions of the helicopter contrary There's no way to process this. Would we know right now about the other passengers on the flight while we know his You know his daughter Tatjana was there and then The manifest of the helicopter said there were nine people aboard. And that's part of what's so sad about this. Is that you know. They were on their way to a basketball event. And this is just like a Sunday with the family for a lot of different families here as we're talking I'm seeing footage outage from outside the Staples Center. There's hundreds and hundreds of fans putting up sort of makeshift memorials. You just described what's happening at the Mamba Academy Academy his basketball school. How is the city of Los Angeles taking notice? I mean honestly it feels like this giant hole in the city right now like La Watch. Kobe grow up Elliott. Watch Kobe through the best of his life and the worst of his life you. Oh you watched him come back from injuries. You watched him as an old man. You watched him grow old not especially gracefully and then you watched him have the Sublime Ma last game where he scored sixty points on fifty shots. I mean I don't think I've ever seen staple center that electric and I was. I've been there when the Lakers won the NBA Championship. It was never like it was the nineteen sixty it was unbelievable and La. kind of feels like they know MLA. I'm Elliott kind of. Feels like he's their guy and you know maybe it's the same as New York feels about Derek jeter. It feels like that and I think people are still in shock to be honest like I. It doesn't feel real like it feels like you're gonNA wake up and that was a hoax or a bad dream but it obviously is and I think that's why everybody's coming to the Mamba Academy or the Hillside Calabasas. Just kinda witness listen and and

The assumption for the Newbie and who has never been to take you is that this is a fast moving city of skyscrapers and almost impassable modernity but it takes a little more than string of the Shibuya crossing for a couple of hundred meters to realize that really. This isn't the whole story. It's a fair i i actually i thought there would be <hes> yeah a little higher than me too but i don't think he's happy to get paid. I it's interesting. It's initiative. I was the one thing i will say is he. Now becomes one of i don't mean to exaggerate it. I think he becomes one of the half dozen most important players in the n._b._a. And because it becomes like what not stylistically but like the level of flare that siachen was the guy who's like yeah. He's in the conversation for an all star. Spa misses it but he's in the conversation if if he becomes that then when durant dan comes back they have a chance to be a great team if he's stagnates and is just what he is looking pretty good player great weeks. So-so weeks doesn't really do much if if he's if then then then they're sealing his all or i agree it's nice there. He is their most important player in that sense anyway you open the thirty for thirty <hes> ooh with this incredible anecdote that i don't think i've ever heard before and you can describe what it is. My question to view is did. Did you learn about it. When shelly told you about it immediately say to yourself. Oh my god. That's the opener now okay so i had i heard about it. We'll we'll we'll talk okay so the opening of the thirty for thirty starts with <hes> a confrontation between shelly sterling and beast of viana so if you don't remember just google she had the visor in the roller skates and she is his silly rabbit. "This. This could have been his magic like blake. Was that exciting of a player. That big of a star and donald didn't know how to have that the didn't know how to treat people donald old understand stars players. We jerry buss. It and it's really not that complicated right like you. They're just people you have to treat them like a human being and not like property. They're not he's not your prized racehorse like and i think it was like awkward for blake to talk about. It and i think he's talked about it. A couple of times in the past and you know it took a little bit convincing thing <hes> and so i i actually like it's one of those like when you do this this kind of cash like you're. You're basically saying that hey let's talk about this really shitty time in your life and this really icky a key person that you are probably really glad that is not in your life anymore right <hes>. Let's relive all that. It's it's not actually the easiest ask right. It's not like a big upside for anyone to do it and <hes>. I ended up talking with <hes> blake in his brother. His agents and goldfetter has brother taylor and like we talked about really what decision. I remember sam saying to me like ramona. How is this different from other interviews. He's given on this and i'm like just trust me. This is the much bigger it's not a one off. It's not just reliving it like we're gonna put it in the proper. Historical context need someone who wasn't a role player is one of the founders of one of the foundational channel plans. I was glad it was blake. I want i really i really wanna talk to chris paul but his braga freight like <hes>. I probably wouldn't say i did talk to marc. Spears chris paul talked to him and the audio just wasn't good and you know there's literally like a tape quality issue sometimes like people talk and like you just can't use tape and that happens sometimes in these documentaries but it wasn't like even what he said. It still wasn't expansive. It was like pretty clear. He was keeping a lot a lot of stuff for whatever he wants to do later in his career. Donald does not always like visiting on site like <hes> you know the descriptions that i've got have shelly in the past where like she would always have binders of folders all the tenants and she would check on the tenant's right <hes>. She has explanations since for herself. I should've tried to present them without as much comment right like here's what she says. Here's what here's what is in the deposition. I am not racist. I don't consider myself racist and i listened says actually by the way i was listening to her. Say that you know what i said literally to myself on the plane. I don't believe you and that's the way that i think we had to treat her. Which is simply. Here's what the evidence is. Here's what her history is. Here's your explanation nation and she is. She was a very tricky character because i see things as characters to right. I mean on the one hand. She is complicit absolutely complicit and i think we make the we make this pretty clear that she knew what was going on with donald's personal life in his professional life <hes> and then when we get to the end though she has this she has this moment where she oust the evil racists from the league where she seems like there's this clear break like after sixty years of marriage she not only a separated from donald but she like helps oust him and get him declared mentally incapacitated and sells the team out from under him and she does it under the guise of they were going to disband the team and i knew this was what was best for everybody to just get rid of edits edits. You know to move on. We might still be in court if she doesn't do that. Like donald would've taken that. He took them to court. I don't know that they would have had the same procedural exigency who there's a big word for you to get him out in the timeframe that they would have wanted to get him out. The league voted him out and then he would he would have gone to court. I mean the last time me took him to court. They were six seven years so long that took back then the first time <hes> and you saw how they just kept filing lawsuit after loss after loss donald is it's a former lawyer but anyway so she so we get back to shelley who like just doesn't all the dirty work for them. Was there some self serving us to it absolutely we did. She profit from it absolutely in that moment was she positioned well where she waves the divorce petition. "How did your efforts to get stern. Go because stern comes off as as the guy who a <hes> that let him off the hook is strong but you reveal in in the series which i didn't know who that they came close to boot him in the early to mid eighties when he moved the team los angeles after being told you can't and shouldn't move in and it was also he's trying to take. I mean he's openly advocating for just a one time. I was like okay. I kinda respect that visionary like he's right. He's not wrong. Our team stinks. I mean cuban cuban got five four a year ago when it was a lot of things things like he wasn't paying the players. I mean i've heard all these stories about like incredible audio. You get honestly that. I hadn't heard because we'd all heard the disgusting yeah was sterling at some point early his ownership saying i thought you just could buy i title could just could buy whatever players you wanted and it turns out. The league doesn't really work that way. There's been many players. We've tried to buy but we like what what did you i call up yeah the sixers and be like hey can we by julius irving. That's literally how he felt the league work i mean he was a real estate guy and he just thought of players in terms of the same way he thinks of apartment buildings lake. You could just buy a better apartment building. They were like investments. That's why he was always like mad at baron. Davis davis like oh. I bought a more expensive. I invested in this apartment building and it's not paying off. It also revealed that it revealed correctly when elgin baylor for do correctly titian metallica like i buy them. I it showed immediately early on again. It was no secret how this guy viewed other human beings so here's what the big question was is like what could they and should they have done about donald sterling all those years okay and i think that's where the reckoning that's where if i had david stern in a room i would've pushed him right. You know just said no. Thanks yeah obviously we asked several times right and we even look for a lot of our kyle to see if anybody ever pushed him like after the housing discrimination suits did did anybody push him at a state of the union press conference they do every year at all star the finals no couldn't find it the people you know. "Paolo. Di with players free agents. When you you built a reputation you use that platform with the clippers shoe make yourself appealing somewhere else in the league and he got out of there so i think what was there. Were two things that you you look at the way the clippers would do businesses that anybody anybody really good in. This industry is not going to work like that for too long. They're not gonna work without a contract without stability or well below market value when they can get so much more elsewhere and i remember i covered those years with neil and mike dunleavy and mike mike actually went to court with donald and one because mike was wealthy enough independently league to be able to say no. You know what actually can starve just as long as you can but it's like we can we can we can have the lawyers duke it out for years and like i don't need the paycheck right away away so we can we can be in court and he actually he did it long enough and he was successful and you got a pretty big settlement out of everybody get paid everything and then some <hes> neil had no choice but to leave. He's he was too good and stirling didn't wanna pay him and it got to that. That was kind of the story of that era of like like you said. Free agents used to do that now. The the top front office guys we're we're doing that but the irony of the two thousand fourteen season where the state with the tapes come out and they blow up that donald had finally started getting out of with the way he'd finally started letting his front office doc rivers and andy rozier at that time and started to just minimize donald he you know they they figured out how to manage him and then one of the i'm sure you you cover this at the time. When she took the job he knew exactly what he was getting into. He had language put into his contract to make sure sure that if you ever got fired sterling wouldn't be able to do that and that he had personnel power and one of the first to me. One of the wild stories i've reported on was and it was that era it was at that time he was docs. I was docks. I thought he had left boston and free agency had come and they had done a sign and trade with milwaukee phoenix and the clippers. I and bledsoe goes to the sons and j._j. Radic who people kind of forget he was in milwaukee for a few months after orlando traded him they do a sign and trade. They agree to a five-year deal <hes> or four-year deal excuse me with j._j. Rettig and there's the moratorium period and all of a sudden donald starts to change his mind about signing j._j. Redick and the reason why he didn't pay that much money to a white player and the thinking would go for a racist and avowed racist like donald sterling was while you'd think he just wanted team of white players but his narrow mind thought well really only african american players can play this game. I i don't wanna white player <hes> <hes> because they're not as good in basketball. He had all these racial stereotypes and anybody who's ever worked on that front office. If you wanted to try to draft an international player or sell them on eric piontkowski in the first round that was a tough sell with donald sterling because of his racial views like in you get into this. This was some of the most compelling pelling <hes> material in there and blake griffin talked about it about the players as he would parade through the locker room and physically manhandle the players touch their bodies showed them off to his friends and women who've come role in the locker room with them as though these were show horses or something nothing worse than that that that he just he'd grab their muscles and feel their muscles it was dehumanizing and that's the prism with which donald sterling solve ask ball and so here's this three-way trade with three teams. You've got like you know. These teams have all committed to this his deal j._j. The markets dried up j._j. Redick has a contract an agreement and there was a window of about forty eight..

"Where in the end they had to settle for thirty cents or forty cents on the dollar off of guaranteed contracts in the n._b._a. They allowed that to go on and and they were complicit in what donald did with contracts and coaches and every once in a while you'd hear in the later years of since i was carrying the league when when this would be going on in the coaches association which sort to get together and say hey how about no-one go for the clippers job like nobody just don't go for the joe of course people are gonna go for the job is one of thirty and it didn't work so the one of the guys i talked to in the podcast who talked to off the air but he wanted to do the podcasts at that and i don't blame him was bill fitch okay. The bill. Fitch was a legendary coach. You know in in the college ranks one of those coaches who donald fired and didn't pay and just had to settle and the guy it. There's a there's a famous quote from phil jackson about donald sterling where he said i'm one of those guys from the sixties believes in karma and he was talking about the clipper curse and that to fill is referencing because he played for bill fitch at north dakota he was real close with him and people in the coaching profession knew this about sterling the and resented him for it right like coaches tried to stick a further coaches <hes> and there was the sense that like if you treat people this badly it's just gonna to continue to be a problem right and one of my early experiences. That reporter was covering what happened with mike dunleavy. Remember that one he dunleavy dunleavy gets ousted <hes> but dunleavy kinda was was wise to this and he was one of the guys who really tried to turn around the clippers. I think he they gave him a lot of power and he he helped really change the franchise and the neil replaces him and then neil actually got a meeting with lebron james back in two thousand ten incredible for the clippers they actually put a press release police out about getting a meeting with lebron because it was to be able to be at the table with them was credibility that that was an era of blake was there and then they aerial all-share made the chris paul trade and he drafted eric bledsoe and <hes> you know he in vinny del negro's coach went to the play offseason. Neil left again. I think donald was paying number game right. He was paying them to be two hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year which even some seven years ago is still way below market value paul allen offered it'd probably quadrupled in portland and and he left in he he you know if it was like paolo..

"Beautiful. Women want to be around me but the other name. It makes perfect sense. <hes> in lots subways was donald trump. Yeah i mean there's literally story that donald sterling was very proud of that calls him the west coast trump. I mean that is who aspired to be and i think from a character standpoint it was fascinating the more i learned right so so donald sterling jerry buster both self made men right they both come from poverty jerry buses from wyoming and he works. There's all these stories of him working on the railroad and teaching himself chemistry and they coming out up to u._s._c. and building a career <hes> i i was like as a chemist and then in real estate. Donald sterling actually has a very similar backstory. He is a poor jewish. Wish kid growing up in boyle heights which is east l._a. And puts he's really smart. Put himself through law. School becomes a titan in l._a. Real estate they they start kind of going in the same circles jerry boston donald sterling and they are they get to this place where you have a lot of money and it's about what are you going to do with it right so donald sterling one point had before anybody knew him he had changed his last name from toko wits which is the very obvious jewish name to donald sterling and started to talk to people around town about wanting to run for political office and put all that in the podcast but we had a number where people told me that he was he considered that at one point in his career and was going to the forum club and seeing kind and what jerry buss hadn't. I don't know if people know that whole story of donald actually loaning jerry buss the last three billion dollars he needed to buy the lakers from jack kent cooke <hes> but those first a couple of years in the in the eighties. I mean the lakers were everything it was like showtime. They were winning the forum club studio fifty four on the west coast and for a guy like sterling who clearly wanted not just to be rich but to be famous to be a celebrity which is what a lot of people in l._a. Want let's be real okay. People come down for a lot of reasons but most of them involve fame and fortune sterling was just drawn by that and decides all by a team and jerry jerry. Buss is the one who vouches for him with the league <hes>. There's a lot of really good back stories that we didn't get to go. We didn't get to cover because if you wanted those other five episodes this is what that would be about but <hes> you know those funds stories how actually he buys the team from a guy named irv levin who had done a strange swap with the celtics where like he sterling actually isn't a position where because he takes on irv levin's debts he doesn't feel like paying any of those dads and there's all these old boston celtics players who he doesn't pay like he owes owes money and pensions john havlicek and habits like us to get paid by levin but when donald sterling takes on the team he just stops paying him that was that was always the case clipper coaches. You'd get fired. Assistant coaches would get fired. Head coaches would get fired and donald was always willing rolling to a and you get into this <hes>. I'll i'll weary out in court like like you and you have these coaches who are living paycheck to paycheck checking assistants who were making you know at different times forty or fifty or sixty thousand a year where.

"I would absolutely dive into them on my drive home from bristol. I'd listen to another five episodes of it. <hes> ah the podcast is remarkable. You've been working on it in some ways. You've been working on this for years but tell me this ramona <hes> the idea to tell the story the way you have in a podcast format to make it five parts which and even in the beginning beginning. I wondered what i feel like. I know this story pretty well. I covered it. No uncovered a quite like you did but but i covered it and and was around for all of it. I don't know if this would. I don't know if there's parts in this for me that are going to keep me riveted and it was riveting. It was was absolutely riveting so i think i was always drawn to the soap opera right the the donald and shelly marriage and the very strange love triangle goalby with visa fianna right people remember visa viana with the with the visor and stuff on roller skates and and i knew behind the scenes how that played into everything like how we even got here and that's always what hooked me into the story and and then as i'm reporting on this. I realize wait the n._b._a. Tried to kick him out thirty years ago and it didn't take eight like they voted him out but he kinda got out of it because the league still come needed him and they just sent alan rothenberg and to babysit and to make everything look good and he just kind of moved the team to los angeles despite the league opposing it and they find him a little bit and you just did it anyway. I mean the league has been trying to get rid of donald sterling for thirty years. So why did it take this and you look at the history of it and you get into this. You know in the more the more i dug into this there. There was one thing that jumped out at me and i think it was really important that i don't know if he would've you can get unless you live in los angeles and you have seen both teams teams up close for most of your my life which i have. I grew up with all teams. <hes> but magic johnson seemed to be a very very strange and personal trigger for donald sterling magic. Johnson is the person in the instagram post that visa viana house us where donald freaks out donald as i don't bring i don't care who you socio with but don't put them in your instagram posts and it's it's the picture sure with magic that sets him off right and then later on when he does his interview with anderson cooper he's doing okay. I wouldn't say he's doing good off the ed gic right and then he goes off the rails on magic and i'm like what is it about magic. That's such a trigger for him that that seems really personal and and i started asking around in l. a. and i go oh. It's because donald and jerry buss are very much the same profile right there like virtually the same age and jerry buss has this very real relationship with magic johnson as a son to him right <hes> he has real success whereas donald has been pretty much searching his entire adult life for real respect invalidation and not the kind so you just buy and force people into go into your silly parties and hiring fake paparazzi for well one of the things you explored in this ramona that i was very well aware of. I think the two people maybe the two most prominent people in donald sterling's adult life that he wanted to be now jerry buss. I knew that right he wanted he would go the laker in and you have the stories of him going to the forum aurum club and seeing the parties in the women and seeing the women attracted to dr bus and thinking in his mind. Hey if i have have a team in l._a. That's a way for me to have beautiful..

"Radio ramona shelburne is going to be on with us in fifteen minutes and while i do wanna get to the thought of everybody on hard knocks 'cause i know chris is very excited about it and stu gods very excited about it and billy thinks the raiders are going to be good sneaky sneaky good this year sleeper team watch out that that's what hard knocks will do for you man antonio and not antonio brown but 'antonio here on our show saw antonio brown and what was the godfather thing that i heard you talking about before the it's it's actually pretty funny story and it's the funniest it's gonna come out of everything. That's going on and apparently last this year over the pro bowl. He had a professional chef. Come over celebrity chef guy called himself a celebrity chefs not a celebrity chef <hes> he comes over starts cooking for him and what he does uh what he did was he he bought a salmon made some fillets and stuff and was keeping the salmon head for stock that he was gonna make for a soup later on that day. Antonio brown took as the horse head at the producers house in the godfather and basically took it as a threat kicked him out kept all of his stuff and basically said i'm not paying you so now suing for thirty eight grand and said hey i myself i mean so antonio brown has just gone full-fledged crazy right and the tipping the point was the spray paint in mustang and in the middle of hard knocks. He's talking to his teammate about how he has this helmet on. It's the helmet that he can't that. He doesn't wanna wear he was at practice wearing the helmet doesn't wanna wear and he's just like talking about how it looks. This doesn't look right. It's basically like do so you're saying this is all about hysterics and you notice the bond. That's happening between incognito antonio brown right. It's only incognito saw early and he has befriended antonio brown. It is delightful yesterday tony brown. Dan had a moment on hard knocks where he's surrounded rounded by people. They're just giving him numbers to tell them how great he is at things like you have run the fastest the shortest amount of time all these things right so then he looks at the guy and he goes men lie women lie analytics don't lie and he made himself a god of the analytics community yesterday. Dan god they didn't know that they wanted or needed but he's the face of analytics now yes or no chris. Gruden knows how to sing happy birthday yes or no i hate. I know he knows the lyrics exc cadence. He has no idea what he's doing at. Did you answer yes or no. He does not know how to sing. I have yet into here the word yes or no. Maybe <hes> so ramona shelburne is going to be on with us in ten minutes and to reset set this up if we can. Let's just go back to this sound from c._n._n. This again donald sterling rat team taken away because he was buffoon and <hes> and racist and he decided had to defend himself with anderson cooper on c._n._n. By going after magic johnson because he did not want his mistress putting that in quotes because there were sixty years of age difference prince there so i don't i don't know what was happening with the right hand arm man <hes> but here is donald sterling on the recovery tour trying to keep his team by doing doing good pub. What has he done. Can you tell me big magic johnson. What does he done well businessperson. He got age and and then beyond because we're the gets of the time like barbara. Walters needed to get a get and so the get was this woman a welding mask who was hanging around donald sterling. It just wasn't very good at interviews. Tell me what your relationship with donald. Sterling is how mr sterling's right hand arm man..

"It was like she found the smoking gun. She knew she was going to win. The lawsuit now and shelly's lawyer pierce o'donnell who is just really fun character in the story <hes> delighted in telling how they set via to kind of like she you know she didn't she didn't do any of this and then they kind of dimmed lights in the they played those tapes an an open chord just totally caught her red handed right like it's just they just won the won the case right then then it was a very kind of theatrical moment mint where we gotcha you know and everyone in court heard it and it was like shelley takes as much delight in winning that case against has anything she did for the clippers i mean she she really feels like she was standing up for women who had been who whose husbands have done similar things to them and it doesn't take psychologist to to look at the situation and say yes you can be angry at the other woman but whereas the anger at your husband has been for doing this in the first place. I think he's still working through that. I think that's why she listened to the tapes. I think she understands it but you know you've made these compromises compromises a long time ago and she has a pretty good explanation for herself. Even if you you know we all may not like it right. It's it's you know and i said said this julia my producer so many times. My mom always said you never know what's inside another person's marriage. I got pretty close in there and i still don't understand it's amazing rate. It's now but it's that's why it's story i. It's it's a remarkable story.
