"Pace of both North Korean weapons tests and U.S. South Korea joint military exercises has accelerated in the past year. It is peak bloom time for the cherry blossoms along the tidal basin. And while this weekend's rain is not expected to affect the cherry trees, the annual blossom kite festival has been rescheduled. The kite festival was originally set for Saturday, but in pursuit of better weather, the festival made a date change. The event will still happen 10 a.m. to four 30 p.m. at the Washington Monument grounds. The blossom kite festival is free to all ages and attendees will be able to make kites listen to music, watch performances and even compete. The forecast for Sunday is bright and sunny with temperatures expected to reach close to 70°, shy and current WTO news. While it won't be long before the national zoo's new western lowland gorilla arrives. Good image. Chest, some heartbeats. Californians eager for sunnier days after relentless winter
"After years of drought, it was too much rain in snow for California. It was a strange stormy and cold winter for the Golden State. This week's atmospheric river was the 12th such storm in the states since late December. Californians initially welcomed the precip in chilly temperatures after a record hot summer and many years of drought, but the relentless storms busted the drought in two thirds of the state and broke precip records along the way. The national weather service says San Diego has already recorded 5 more inches of rain than normal and Los Angeles had the wettest beginning of the year since 2005. I'm Shelley Adler.

California gets a break from drenching rains
"California is expected to get a few days break from the weather. Powerful rainstorms of drenched parts of the state flooding roadways, causing landslides toppling trees and flooding hundreds of acres of strawberries, national weather service forecaster bob orwig says the state is getting a break. California's weather is much calmer than it has been. We do have some generally light rain potential coming up for part of the weekend mostly on Sunday. But or vex says next week could bring some issues. It looks like we may have a more significant storm affect California Tuesday and Wednesday with the potential for some additional heavy snows throughout this year. And some heavy rains at the lower elevation. So we could end up with some flooding issues as we go into the beginning to middle part of next week. Atmospheric rivers flood California with more rain, snow
"Thousands of people are under evacuation orders in Northern California, with flooding from the latest atmospheric river. Santa Cruz county is one of the areas hard hit by this latest burst of storms called the pineapple express. In SoCal, Nick muleta tells KG OTV, a flooded creek destroyed a portion of Main Street. I've never seen the creek go actually through the road, so it's just nuts to see, you know. It's really crazy. Dozens of homes are under threat and Watsonville and Lake oroville spillways are being open to head off flooding from the reservoir. In the Bay Area, a business roof collapsed, killing a worker at a Pete's coffee distribution center. Back-to-back atmospheric rivers are plowing through California
"California's bracing for another series of atmospheric rivers with a chance of flooding in the coming days. It's already raining in some areas with the heavier precipitation coming in a day and lasting through the weekend. Flood watching effect through Sunday morning. Northern and central California are expected to get the brunt of the storm. Melting snowpack in the mountains will intensify the situation. Residents are urged to be ready for rivers and creeks rising quickly. Forecasters warn mountain travel could be difficult with higher elevations expecting several more feet of snow. So much has fallen in the Sierra and other mountain ranges, residents are still stranded and struggling to dig out.

Indonesia landslide deaths climb to 21; dozens still missing
"Rescuers have recovered more bodies buried under tons of mud after a landslide crashed onto a hilly Indonesian village, raising the death toll to over 20 ever a dozen rescuers crowd around a newly discovered body drenched in mud and village on Indonesia's remote natuna islands. The men lift the body into a body bag before carrying it off into a truck. Authorities have deployed more than 200 rescuers to search for over 30 people still missing. Many were apparently trapped in houses that were buried under the landslide which according to officials was 13 feet deep. Tornadoes, power outages as storm crosses Texas, Louisiana
"Tornadoes touched down in Texas and Louisiana on Thursday, as a powerful storm that dumped snow in California, moved eastward. Strong winds and rain knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of people in the Dallas Fort Worth area, and hundreds of flights into and out of the daoist area were canceled, and near by Hearst Texas, Michael Roberts tells K D FW TV that the storm tore the ceiling off his apartment. You know, see it coming in and got really winning and out of nowhere to hit and the whole building started shaking. California, beleaguered by earlier storms, gets fresh snow
"A powerful weather system could affect the lower 48 states. California continues to be battered by fierce weather with fresh snow falling in the mountains, and even cold temperatures in the San Francisco Bay and elsewhere, but national weather service meteorologist David Roth says another storm is expected to target all 48 lower states, and the precipitation you get depends on where you live in relation to a warm front. If you're near and just north of the warm front, you'd be talking about heavy rainfall. If you're far enough to the north of the warm front and the cold air, yeah, you'd be talking about freezing rain and snow. And in the west, since it's a cold enough system, there'll be snow. "Michigan is one of the states being hit with icing conditions for a second round this week, and for some customers, that means they're still no electricity. A new storm teeming with freezing rain and strong winds is socking Michigan, creating a new hurdle for power crews, trying to repair lines that snapped in last week's storm. For resident Joanne Davis in Livingston county, no lights, and no water since last Wednesday, because she has an electric pump Davis tells the AP she just really wants to take a shower. She and her husband have been carrying buckets of water from a creek to be able to flush the toilets. Another resident says he's had to throw out more than $200 worth of food in the fridge and freezer. California faces more wind, snow in multistate storm
"California is hit by a powerful winter storm while Michigan is trying to recover from one that left hundreds of thousands without power. Several feet of snow and several inches of rain are possible in parts of Southern California along with gusty winds while frigid temperatures are forecasted in the north as the storm moves out Saturday, says national weather service meteorologist Zack Taylor. Flooding threat, there have been reports of like mudslides and washed out roads and that kind of thing, but the worst of it is kind of winding down. In Michigan, rinker has been without power since Wednesday when the ice storm hit and I knew immediately we're not getting power back for a minute. I didn't expect it to be multiple days. This is one of the worst ice storms to hit the state in decades. It almost is a little bit like tornado destruction. What We Know About the Train Derailment in Ohio
"All right, let me just talk about this real quick and then I got a couple of people calling in. I love to get your take on this. But the chemical spiel collision in Ohio is I'm very concerned, right? They know exactly what chemicals were on that train. They know exactly what chemicals were on their train. I don't know if it's because they don't want to scare people or because they're disingenuous. They won't explain what chemicals are on that train. And what will it do to you? If you get direct exposure from those chemicals burning into the atmosphere, for instance, you have plastic just sitting on the table. It's not going to really hurt you. If you begin to burn plastic and you inhale that, the fumes from burnt plastic can really mess you up for a very long time. Same thing with tobacco, same thing with any other thing that you burn into the atmosphere. The burnt version of it, the combust version of it is very different than the chemical stable chemical form of it, which would be liquid form or power form or whatever form they have it in. Once you start burning it, that can be detrimental and it gets into the sky and it just don't somehow dissipate. It's going to come down in the form of, you know, when the weather turns, it's going to come down in the form of rain. Some of the particles are going to just, you know, I would argue, the particles would drop back down to earth. Soot and chemical compounds are going to be on everybody's house. you don't know what that's going to do to you.

By the time the resurrection has taken place and before Pentecost, you will remember in 8 chapter one, it is these same disciples who come to Jesus and ask him the question, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel? When does the good stuff start? Jesus, when do we get all the good business? You're going to rain on David's throne forever and forever. We understand that part. And that's why Jesus we want you to do for us whatever we ask. Well, what do you want me to do for you, he asked? Well, they said we'd like to get our reservation in for our seats. It's never too soon to reserve good seats. Jesus is talking about suffering. They're talking about status. They had enjoyed privileges to this point, hadn't they? The particular privilege of the transfiguration. Peter James and John taken by Jesus into a unique and wonderful opportunity. Perhaps that it made them think that they were deserving of such experiences. When God draws us close and introduces us to the wonders of his love, it's not because we're deserving of it. It's an indication of his amazing grace. But maybe somehow or another, they said, you know, there's a reason why he took us up on the mountain of transfiguration. We are the key guys. So why don't we just go ahead and ask him and see if we can't make sure our seats are reserved. One on the right one on the left. That would be nice Jesus. If you could do that for us.

I thought that was something that could have been some pretty good dramatic moments have been handled by people who know what the hell they were doing and so it just feels like a lost opportunity. Like it's there. Are things there that you know that. Kinda get okay if you're going to introduce this. There needs to be a payoff and for me as a viewer. It gets frustrating that there isn't the payoff that you you know you go to great length to set something up and then you don't do that and it. Just i think it feels more like a letdown because of that. So that's why you. That's what i think. I felt cheated new. So our mutual friends and sprouse uses the word facile in another some of the things that she used it. And i think the word facile was very apt in this case and i mean i don't wanna go. As far as saying i felt the my our intelligence was insulted. But a little bit i did. I did like like they were kind of stupid. I kind of feel like my intelligence is being so did when it comes to sentence choices and things the rights as did the writers in again. I have to hold the show runner especially have to show have to hold him accountable because well he co wrote the script so it it almost feels like they. Don't they think that. Oh it's a comic book property therefore we can get away with a lot more. In terms of storytelling we can. We can just easily gloss over things. We can rush certain events. You know just to tidy everything up all as long as everything's all like addressed.

"So i think people's tent up demand for socializing and for being about is still carrying the day despite some unusually wet weather. That is encouraging. Do wonder are you hearing more Trouble for residents business owners. Things like flooding in basements and other kind of physical infrastructure problems that affect families in the economy. You know not not anymore than normal Probably the biggest impact has been the number tree limbs and trees down. That's kept our forestry department fairly busy keeping things open especially when we got that real intense rain on saturday. A as was mentioned with the meteorologist of the ground is so wet. That when you get that heavy rain it doesn't have the capability to kinda soak it up. in a way that normally does so we're seeing the threshold of flooding. Be a little less than normal and we do get some situational flooding some of our low lying areas which can certainly Impact traffic in the flow of traffic. But nothing too severe at least so far. So let's look positive for a minute. Is there something coming up in western over the summer that you're really looking forward to what we're certainly looking forward to the rest of the season the so much pent up demand for that We are having a two week. Engagement on the worcester common with hanover. Theater's doing two weeks of Julius caesar On the common and outdoor performance and We're hoping that we'll get all of those performances in. It's a great way for the theater. Kinda come back post kovic and you know. Have some nice outdoor performances As long as it doesn't downpour. I hope that happens. That's ed augustus. Yeah we had a very busy weekend We had about fifty different broken limbs and trees down blocking sidewalks and streets with some of the intense rain. We got saturday You know some of our lower lying areas in the city Flooded we had a number of vehicles that needed to be kinda rescued and towed out of You know areas that were flooded out and that can be really dangerous if somebody gets trapped in their car And so yeah. It's been a busy weekend for our first responders infrared dpw crews and we're hopeful that The rain coming wednesday Won't challenge us again in that that same way. So kinda thinking about the bigger picture at we talked with you in november about worcester having the potential to be an interesting case. Study in terms of recovering from the pandemic before cova did you had been rated by bloomberg is eight out of one hundred. Us cities in terms of potential for growth. You've got the wu socks. How unprecedented is all of this rain. We've talked about worcester having the wettest july. They've ever had we discussed before how. We had the wettest first week in july over one hundred years. A here in boston so okay. Several days have passed since then. How bad is this relatively speaking. And after great question. Because i think sometimes our perspective on these things can get a little bit skewed and so it's helpful to look back at our records which go back to eighteen seventy two and if you look at the record since eighteen seventy two. There's a few things that stand out. Number one is. Today is our sixteenth day this month with measurable precipitation now. The most number days with any measurable precipitation is april. Twenty nineteen twenty one. So we're getting close to that and we're probably going to have more showers As we head for wednesday so that's another day as you mentioned we still have over week left in the month so it's possible that not only just july end up as one of the wettest. July's on record. But it's also the frequency of the rain that's really unusual Eighteen is the most number of days in july. We've ever had rain and we will get close to if not surpassed that kind of like a record. You don't want to root for that..

Streptomycetes isn't mobile. So if it's in a location with not a lot of food or if it starving it has to do something else to be sure. Its offspring have a good shot at survival. This bacterium is actually very weird. That's mahmoud abbas. He's a researcher. At university of california san diego and he worked on the same study as close as the starves to make sure that is offering will survive it start to produce doorman cells and these doorman sales can withstand dryness Lack of food and then once the environment is favorable so they have food they have water. Like tortured mannequin random movements dots by some of the windows. But she didn't stop a home was so close. It was unrecognizable wants beautiful with two stories yellow citing a little stained glass rose in the front window. None of it could be seen beneath a disgusting layer of filth accumulated around the dead covered her house. Nothing was more sickening. That was what she thought until she got out of the can reach the back of the house. Grief was not strong enough of a word to describe how rebecca foul after all she'd seen and after all she survived and fought for it all led to this is only so much she could have done. The fates had being cruel. A mother was on her knees. The full water pitcher in her old is found. Rebecca a green and still so bright. The vines hadn't taken hold completely. I mean i mean it kind of goes back to what i was saying about like the escapist where like ending i think greece and and the young girls a road foreign saying almost more than sound of music The nazi stuff yet. An audience member to like see while those films with my dad or with you like we had a lot of dates there but And it really does. Change the experience in a big way totally. You're kind of.
