"Year? But how are they responsible for that entire amount of how that ended? I don't understand that. Can't they claw back any of that money? It's all guaranteed. Yeah, but isn't there like a morality clause in these countries? I'm just wondering, and gruen had a ten year deal and how many years did he coach her? Three? Yeah. So are they paying Gruden 10 million a year for the next 7 years, including this year to not coach? Good question. So let's say they are. That's ten mil. Who was there before? Oh, well, though they're not paying a name. Or they're not paying attention. No, he moved on. He moved on. He was just interested. He's on green bay staff now. All right, so who are they paying still besides? Well, maybe just Gruden, I guess. That's a lot of money. And then McDaniels didn't come cheap because he didn't have to leave that job. So they probably have to overpay for him. And mayock too is in May knock on the page. He's still on the payroll. But GMs aren't making as much, but still, I mean, Mark Davis is a poorest owner in football. Although I don't get it, like you use the poorest owner. The poorest owner, but charges the most for tickets. It's unbelievable. How much do you like? I know you're a huge raiders family. How much have you been to a game in Vegas? And if I have not, no, I have no pressure tickets. Well, we can Google the average price for tickets. Really expensive. Well, I guess new stadium, right? New stadium and they know the casinos are going to pay pay to get blocks of tickets because they want to give the high rollers tickets. Hey, here's a comp tickets to the Raiders game, right? Okay. Yes, that's probably what it is. Ticket IQ says for the second year or no or in a row with an average list price on the secondary market of $691. What? The Raiders are once again the most expensive team for the 22 season. $691 is the average price on the secondary market for the Raiders. That's what it says. Well, you would know this. $61. Couldn't you buy a T for $6 and 91 cents to go to the Oakland college seem to watch them back? Absolutely. I think I've done that. I think I've done that. Yeah, absolutely. And honestly, I'm not joking. I mean, you probably could have bought a ticket for like 20 bucks. I don't understand. It's the casinos buying these tickets. It has to be. Who's going to pay $691 to watch the Raiders or get a stadium experience? It's not a heck of a lot of money. That's awful. Yeah, that's ridiculous. And the product stinks. Yeah, three and 8. Yeah. So there's the ass. And our quarterback cries and press conferences. That's right. And gives you cliche after cliche after cliche. So outside the AFC east, you literally have three teams in the rest of the AFC that are over 500. Baltimore Cincinnati and Kansas City. And by the way, the NFC is no better, right? Again, the east is the creme de la creme all four teams, by the way, over 500, the eagles cowboys giants and commanders. Past that. The north is garbage, the Vikings are 9 and two, and I don't know if they're any good. They're point differential, by the way, is plus 5. That's it, okay? When you're beating up on the lines, the packers and the bears, I just don't know how good you are. That's 6 games right there that should be wins. Well, we saw what we saw it against Dallas. I mean, just Dallas just came into Minnesota and just blew them out. 40 to three, and we don't think the cowboys are that great. Then they beat the Patriots, okay, it's a nice win, I guess, but they're playing, you know, Matt Jones not Tom Brady. So, the Vikings have benefited from having obviously an easy schedule playing in a very, very easy division as well. And the whole division is not good. By the way, the NFC south is complete trash, right? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have struggled mightily. They've been terrible, right? Up and down, sure they've won their last two, but they were three and 5 at one point, to where people are questioning should Tom Brady have even come back for this for this nonsense. Well, outside the Buccaneers, the falcons are 5 and 6 and they're a half game out of the division lead. The saints don't know who's their quarterback and they said, what a game out, a game and a half out, Panthers don't even know who's a baker, is it darnold? I don't know. DJ walker? I will never, ever, ever pick up Baker Mayfield on fantasy again. Ever. I think most NFL GMs are saying I will never ever ever pick up Baker Mayfield for my real team ever again. I think that might be the case that I don't know what happened. And I have to admit though, I actually thought that the change of scenery would work out well for baker. I am that idiot. I am that idiot that thought Baker Mayfield was going to flourish. Outside of Cleveland and I do have to admit because I am capable of eating some humble pie that I was completely wrong. That Baker Mayfield has more chance in two years of not being in the league than being a starting quarterback somewhere. Yeah, that's how bad it is. I picked him up for a spot start and got a minus four. He's not incredible. You could have played nobody a quarterback and you would have actually had a better week. Absolutely. Yeah, that's crazy. Baker Mayfield on the season. This is incredible, by the way. 7 games, 6 touchdowns, 6 interceptions. He's been sacked 19 times. He is awful.

"Three months into the NFL season already. Wow, time flies. And here's a craziest thing, okay? Thursday, Thanksgiving football. There were three games, two of them featured both teams with 500 of better records, giants cowboys, Vikings hosting the Patriots, all four of those teams with records better than 500 going into the game. Sunday, week 12 Sunday of the season coming up here in a couple of days. game on this schedule that features both teams with 500 or better records. How crazy is that? The only game is the Tennessee Titans at 7 and three hosting the 6 and four Cincinnati Bengals. That's it. Every other game features at least one team that's under 500. Buccaneers browns, browns under 500. Dolphins hosting the Texans. You know who stinks? Bears jets, falcons commanders. That's close falcons are falcons are 5 and 6 commanders of 6 and 5. Panthers Broncos, terrible matchup ravens at the Jags, chargers cardinals, raiders, seahawks, rams, chiefs who thought the rams would be this bad, the three and 7. As Super Bowl defending champions, forty-niners hosting the saints and the packers at the eagles in the packers are crap. So there you have it. Literally one game on the schedule this Sunday features both teams with 500 or better records. That's crazy. But that kind of just highlights the underlying problem this year in the NFL. And that is pretty much most of the divisions in football stink. Okay? Stink. Start out in the AFC clearly the AFC east is far and away the best division in the AFC every single one of the four teams has a record above 500 every single one of the four teams has a point differential that's positive. There's no other division in football that can say that. That's pretty good, by the way. Bills, dolphins, jets patriots, okay? And before the season, we were talking about the AFC west with all the chiefs and the improved trumpers. I won't call him the Chargers. And the Broncos new coach and the Broncos with Russell Wilson and then the Raiders who the Raiders who made the playoffs last year, they were supposed to be improved. And all of them suck except for the chiefs. Right, they got themselves a number one receiver one of the best in football. Maybe the best in devonta Adams, and they stink. They have seen north, you know, the ravens and the Bengals, but the browns are supposed to be good. The Steelers are supposed to at least be half decent. That hasn't worked out. The south is utter trash. You have the Titans and pass the Titans, what colts stink. Jaguar stink, the Texans are vying for the first overall pick in the draft, and by the way, that lovely Smith press conference was golden, okay? Absolutely golden. When people are asking about like, well, nothing's working. Why aren't you making adjustments? And he's like, well, I'm not making them right now. I don't just make it to make them. Love you, Smith. He's like a great defensive mind. He's never been a very good head coach. Yes, he led the bears to a Super Bowl. I understand, but besides that one year, I just haven't been really good. It was terrible in college, right? I mean, I didn't think that was a great hire. And it's kind of coming out that it wasn't. The west as you mentioned literally just one team over 500. That's the chiefs. And if you're a charger fan, you start to wonder, are you gonna win anything with Brandon staley as a head coach? Or do you have to go in a different direction? Because there's no reason why that team's 5 and hive, you know, 5 and 5, and they just, you know, can't put together winning streaks. Justin Herbert's legit, you wonder is it the coach? And I will go with the coach. Broncos are a mess. There's no worse coach in the NFL than Nathaniel Hackett should have been fired already. Right? At some point, if you're the one family you spend $4.65 billion to buy that team, what's another like 20 million to pay them to go away? At some point you have to just say, look, we made a mistake, it was a dumb hire. It didn't work. And it's not even worth going the entire year to realize it was a bad hire. Like just go away, go in a different direction. And the Raiders are mind boggling because I don't know. Is it Josh McDaniels? Is he the reason why? Because I drank the Kool-Aid for Josh McDaniels. Yes, he was young when he went to Denver. He was arrogant. It didn't work out. But other coaches have had redemption stories after their first job not working out, right? Belichick is kind to turn it around from his Cleveland Brown stint, although if you look back now, an art hindsight is 2020, he actually was pretty good with the browns. He led them to the playoffs, and then there was like a 25 year drought of them going nowhere, right? So like Belichick probably wasn't the problem there. They probably should have kept him around. Yeah, absolutely. So I don't know. Is it Josh McDaniels and, you know, is this the second stint where you just realized, yeah, he's just nothing more than a guy that can do well with Belichick. Well, unfortunately, the readers can not get rid of them because they can't keep paying for ex coaches. How many are on the payroll right now? I think three? I don't know. Are they still paying art shell? Like what happens? Oh my God. Well, that's the thing. I mean, they're paying Gruden still, right? What 10 million a year or something?

Why the Uvalde Police Couldn't Have Prevented School Shooting

"If a person with an AR-15 is in a room of children, these children are not blocked by any kind of ballistic barrier. More than likely they're huddled in a corner as they're trained in one portion of the room. He standing and shooting hundreds of rounds into teachers and children in two classrooms, unobstructed. This has occurred before police ever arrived at the door or the hallway. I'm not the smartest man in the world. But there's a possibility and I'll tell you why the investigation believes this as well, that there's a possibility that no matter what the police responds was, at least 99% of the children that were in the room could have been completely murdered before cops ever showed up to the scene.

Now that we go back in hindsight with the information we have, we realize that this was an active shooter situation should have been treated as an active shooter situation. So why people are criticizing the response as if they are treated like an active shooter situation and not doing active suit a protocol is beyond me. All you have to do is say they misdiagnosed a thing from the beginning. So everything that they did was wrong. You can't say that, oh, this is wrong. They got shields and they should have went in this time that should have went in this time that should have went in this time without acknowledging that not one person on the scene, not one commander, not one officer, is perceiving this to be an active shooter.

He's gotta get bet like he's the worst tackling the league at this point. He's got to get he's got to improve somewhat. There's nowhere to go but up you're right. I mean he's a rookie and he's he's he's been done in a kind of a strange position and there's a reason a lot of scouts projected him as a guard not tackle. He's trying to learn how to play a different side. He's trying to learn how to play at this level. You saw with a villanova in week. One for the ravens. Who had been playing math tackles awkward. They're trying to play them at right tackle. he was abysmal. It is a tough transition. So i don't want to pile on alex leatherwood and just say he sucks. That's the problem like he's really really struggling to adapt and he was thrown into this position. That may not have been fair for him but he had he yes he a better he will get better but he has to like they. They have to improve their and of course. There's you mentioned maybe at some point richie incognito back that helps with a veteran presents it kind of knows what he's doing great but he's kind of on an island over on the left side andre. Jane's really struggled tonight. You saw john. Simpson isn't denzel. Good was brutal. John simpson's in there. He's struggling. James is struggling aluminum doors and he's been playing. Okay play particularly well today. And i know he tweeted about that after the game so it's brutal but you have to get better quick on that. Finally a huge part. Of what adam. Just said is the absence of ritchie income nina. How many snazzy played in two years the last years. i'm like twelve style. I mean under under thirty. Yes that's a when you have your best offensive lineman. Now i mean. Obviously since hudson jackson moved on and he can't play that's huge. I'm not saying he'd make all the difference. But richie incognito guard would make a huge difference and he can't say healthy. He's never healthy so until that changes. I think it's going to hard for them to get much better. Yeah that's true and like you guys are talking about him getting up to the nfl level. Something that makes me think. Every time i see it is the penalties that he causes the teams as well. I mean just like how do they get him just to settle in at that level to not make those simple mistakes and i know i say there's simple but at the nfl level you can't continually have false start called after false start and then you know just keep cruising. He's got to get those under control. And i don't know how they go about it adam and if you have any input on that i don't know practice i don't know what the solution is you've got you've got to get better and listen as much as you get frustrated. I think because you see you look on the other side of the field to my innoc- rashawn slater. Who was picked. Just a couple of picks ahead of alex other word and he's playing at an elite level already. Some there's some people that say it's not excuse and it's not but these are younger players. James been around but it's his first time as the true number one starter and got to focus on snapping and blocking. It's not easy none of this stuff easy but other teams do it other have to deal with that fish us and you know the. The writers tried to younger and cheaper on the offensive line and it probably would have worked out if not for a bunch of injuries right at the start of the season but every team deals with that. So you've got to figure it out. You got to get better but we'll see i. Tom cable is good offensive line coach. I'm sure he's working with them every day practicing your last week. We talked to a talk to jon. Gruden about the snaps and inconsistency on on the some of the shotgun snaps by the way which were much better tonight but he said it's not like we're not practicing. We're practicing every day so they're gonna keep chopping away at it and hopefully for their sake. They get better if they don't. It's not going to be the kind of season they want or like. That's the bottom line. It has to get better. Let's talk about one of the bright spots today. Renfro play where he just leveled somebody on special teams. That was amazing and then he had a decent game. Still eight targets six receptions forty touchdown the kind of at the time started to lift things up in the third quarter and then waller followed with a touchdown as well in the midst of all of this. What did you think of one. Hundred renfro performance. You know what. I'm gonna pause here until everyone to pick up a copy. The review journal tomorrow because adam hill wrote one of the better stories. I've read in a long time in our paper on hunter info and the play on special teams which it was an amazing play just that he had the awareness. Everyone knows smart player. Who knows his great player. But then you see it in action like that on that plane like wow that was incredible to recognize what was happening someone passes over to adam reed historian marin hundred because it was really really good and i'll just say that that play was pretty incredible. Yeah adam tell us a little more. What did you write about what you have to say about hunter. Also the play was better than the story but home though listen hundred degree play on that everybody saw. He recognized the fact that only ten guys on the field. The governor was not covered and he had to make a decision. Do i stay back here to return this or do i just go try to make a play here and he did and broke it up and it was a kind of an automatic call for the chargers knowing that there was nobody on the governor. Just go ahead and throw it and they did. It almost worked out but didn't quite happen. But i think the other parts of the point out is that one hundred a good example of this because sometimes we don't. You don't know everything that's going on in the game right. So one hundred had that great play. He also. Of course the touchdown which is unbelievable. Route two weeks and rove around the same route work both times. It's impossible to fan. Not really no. You have no sense of that play because nobody else runs. He runs a route that he created basically so all those things were good but he did drop a pass on the first possession of the personality of the game the first third down he dropped it which led let them not getting i down on the first drive and that the third downplay that car got sacked on the where. You're talking about right before the misfield goal by carlson which kind of made that a longer field goal made that amazed when the game was still in the balance hundred. That was on him. He said he ran the wrong route and that car was looking for him and he wasn't where he's supposed to be and that's why car got sacked so he said hey hale that's on me and that's what we don't really know unless somebody says no don't know until tuesday when the do comes out and you can look at it and see the film but you know even hunter renfro who we look at and say. Wow what a game. He played you know he was special. He was a special player in a tough spot. You know the rest of the team to play but he did he. He made mistakes too like they all made mistakes. So i think when you say it's a team effort that's what you're talking about. Carbon just get sacked because he held the ball too long and the offensive line failed but also because the receivers didn't run the right route all the time so it is truly a team effort and i think that sometimes gets lost all right so to says we wrap things up. We're gonna look ahead here and week. Five raiders on a short week facing the bears at home. The rest of the afc. Has i'd say some tough matchups as well. The broncos of the steelers chargers had the browns chiefs have the bills. It's gonna be interesting week here in the afc west with three teams kinda minutae now for the top position. What do you make the raiders on the short weekend. You know what if you're playoff team you win this game. There's too many tough games throughout the course of seventeen door. You can't lose home games at team's your favorite answer. I think adam had earlier today. They opened at four four. And a half. You have to win the game. You're you're better than them. These are the times in the past where you know they would kind of stumble. You can't stomach if you're good enough to make the playoffs then you win this game because you know you much tougher games ahead because if you lose this when you have to probably win when you're not supposed to write you have to pick up a game. Where like you're not supposed to win that. We're not supposed to lose this one so they need to go home on a short week. I don't wanna hear anything about a week. Although i'm sure with coach and we will it often. They need to go home and went on sunday and beat embarrassing. That they're better than and then move on before the bye week at denver will be a huge game and these are two games that you know looking far ahead which we shy put pressure new but you get out of this stretch before the by five and one. You're you're sitting pretty but you start losing teams like the bears that you shouldn't lose to then you're going to be in all sorts of trouble all right so the injuries again cornerback. Damon are net. Trayvon molin and also nate hogs. Who suffered a concussion in the second half tight end. Derek carrier had a pictorial injury. We'll keep you updated with everything that we know and also peyton barber and josh jacobs had to take spells out of the game. So we'll keep you up to date with everything that you need to know leading up to this bears game on sunday raiders hosting the bears and those bears being to in to We'll have you covered on biggest nation dot com as well as imprint as ed mentioned. "Derek carr has been the most out that way. So what have you thought about that. The development the progress you saw this team the readers for years Before even coming to las vegas and covered them there. Where derek car wasn't really making that progress where you saw him under new offensive coordinators and you saw him with different wide receivers and struggle was real in that time. I don't think he had the seasons he had wanted to despite what the stats were. So what do you see. As far as differences with derek carr this year between the last few seasons that you saw him you know what i think just confidence in entrusting his playmakers and building. A good You know relationship and chemistry with these guys because it's been a minute since we've seen car kind of ball out this way because we forget i won't point i think it was maybe twenty sixteen that he was an mvp candidate. He took the raiders to the play. Offs dow's before i think Jon gruden came around and it seemed like car was on the cusp of being. You know a very consistent top quarterback pro bowl quarterback in the nfl. Then he broke his ankle. He couldn't play in the playoff game. It was connor. Cook to remind. The raiders raider fast listeners. They know what happened in that game. But ever since that that you know situation with the injury he callosum swagger some confidence he was in. You know as mobile. He wasn't as you know creative and doing his crazy. Make playmaking kind of things that are used to do in the pocket. Then he had a quarterback change. Maybe gone to head. The razor flirting with other teams may be awesome confident of firm other quarterbacks. He lost confidence that way now. It seems like they're card does not care about what people think about him. He's kind of blocking out the outside noise. He's kinda maybe probably got in that. Tros from jon gruden And his gm. Mike may because guys like brian edwards zeta-jones hunter round fro. These guys are just killing. You know the office doing so well together with their car. And i won't want a guy worried about their car. He's looking too much for dan. Waller is just know. Where is dan waller and give him. The ball helped me out. Bill me out there and waller. That has not been the case this year. That first game against the ravens. He was doing that way a lot. Then he just started going. Brian edwards jones and hunter henry rugs and renfro and like okay. Now he has weapons and this offense is for real. So i think you know. Will jon gruden and their car. Doing they have been very impressive. And i think they've been a legit offensive of a team this year. All right. let's take a break right there when we come back more with gilbert monsanto previewing monday night football taking places so fi stadium stay tuned.

"Tomatoes aren't as ripe is a Normally are you gotta do you gotta figure it out And still come up with a great sauce to go over that spaghetti and meatballs and everything. So with the raiders where they are right now I think jon gruden is a suit enough and smart enough to understand. Like i only got a certain amount of things that covered right now. I gotta cook up a winning offensive recipe to deal with what we're working with So that's his perspective. Of if i gotta throw at fifty seven times gotta throw it fifty seven times. The point of this whole thing is to win football games and he's looking at it from that perspective so i figured that that's going to change as more ingredients start Sorry as he goes shopping over at the store and then things start to ripen a little bit more He'll be more to work with a right now. You gotta do what you gotta do. And that's what the raiders are doing. Offensively is so we look ahead Real quick to the miami dolphins Tour is not Has been ruled out with fractured ribs..

"It's just that he wasn't quite as nfl ready. He has the experience last year. Get reps you have you. Have you have an understanding of ways you could grow and through two games. It wasn't just to that. He made an impact when he had a huge catch. And we want to set up a touchdown against baltimore as raiders. Were mounting their comeback. As well so. I think this this unit is the the offense unit sco position players. There's more more refined more polish there and you're seeing. I think their car relieved develop trust in these young receivers. You started choice. These guys the same way. He rushed air wallet. Maybe not quite the same way. What did you get what i'm saying. Yes there's a trust there with these guys on the perimeter that like you said they can balance with their waller is doing and it's it has the makings of a of another explosive unit. Lebron that to this point and like you said if they sustain this kind of offense production and get this help on the defensive side of the ball. This is certainly a player. Playoff-caliber offense again especially when we think he's going to get better as an offensive line healthy in that running game starts come around that time with the week where we are joined by. Chuck esposito director of racist force for station casinos. Every week i attended. Talk about the raiders. Vegas betting landscape in all things sports. Chuck i can go. I'm doing great. Sam who was a great week to. I mean you're raider fan you are pumped up. After two weeks of football. I think the entire. Afc west is upside down. Be saying chiefs and chargers not raiders and broncos but the raiders are two and when they're looking good heading into week three yes..

"That is vicious. I guess i guess is the after. I've been bouncing around. I kinda after nineteen. I've been out of the league for two years so And that's desk. Kind of the time where i really got into coaching And coaching these kids during the pandemic when they had no by when they couldn't do anything so best deaths were s one. I really got into the love for the game again and everything. 'cause i wasn't i'm gonna be honest after when i got drafted and bouncing around. I didn't really. I didn't really like i said i used to come back in college. I just coach coach. You know they don't teach. I didn't call it coaching. But i used to do work. Go go workout with them or not. Teach them some stuff. When i got jazzing bounce around league. I stopped doing that. I never i didn't really you know coach my little brothers or go back to dp and get back to the kids in. I was trying to like by you. Know the some myself up myself. And honestly i feel like that wasn't me so After nineteen after twenty nineteen. Got out the when arizona cardinals. I kind of got back into coaching. Investment you know i found. I felt like i found myself about coaching on stanford hosted by family. You know just kind of our ties my life a little bit. So yeah so yeah it was a condemn it was it was kind of you know it's hard for everybody. I count it as a blessing because he kinda got me straight. Just just happened to be here now. So yeah for sure and yeah as a coach and you are in these reps and listening at a guy like tom cable who's been revered as one of the top offensive line coaches in the nfl especially with what he was able to do with last year's offensive line when it was kind of in shambles and things. I mean what has that been like for you getting the time to work with tom. Cable and it's been awesome. I've i'm learning all his all his technique again. It's you know He's he's a real he's a real good is a real big guy. You know he wants you. If you want to work hard. He kinda he kinda like mold you into that without you. Even knowing if i got i was off for two years. I came in and fell in line right away. You know tests with just the players. He and you know and he's the type of course where you want to be that type of player you know. And he's you know hard nosed downhill. Everything's pasco bobo. So I i mean. I love every second being coached him. What did you learn from working with. Guys like richie incognito. Somebody who's a longtime veteran of this league. Rich rich is dude man. He's a. I mean the main thing i learned from them is this. Is you know. I'm still learning as as being a pro. You know and was just how to how to handle day by day basis situations because every day is a different type of situation you might be in a different situation we find the locker so you know when i'm when i'm having trouble with a certain age you know you own cable. You only have so much time with all of us. So that's when you gotta rely on your beds like richie cole miller. He's got ask questions. "You're ed green eight atom ill. We're here to give you some of our thoughts. In the las vegas raiders for entering world news and other topics. We seemed to find interesting adam. Here we go. Baby came week exhibition against seattle on saturday. Six pm kicked operator. Start their efficiencies. I don't know about you. Because i don't think anyone's playing gruden might be a quarterback so i'm more excited to see allegiance stadium with a full house of fans. Give me your guesstimate is how many people have seen that. Play saturday night. I think it'll be full. Sixty thousand plus official ice every. It's the i. I hope he can go watch football. Nfl football in that in that stadium with you know what i mean there's been a couple of fancier and there there's a couple of fans. Unlv games there was a concert a soccer game but the first chance to see a raiders game at the stadium. I think people are gonna go for nor the reason that it's historic. I think the i know the secondary market is kind of out of control right now. In terms of how much tickets are for an exhibition. Game so yeah. I think it's going to be great. But man i feel like you are your fake enthusiast. There how could you not be excited for football out of your mind. Why do you think you think that was being a little facetious there with my screaming and yelling. You think that was like being say maybe a little. I'm excite look. I'm excited for the media. Parking forty six miles away. I wanted to be one hundred and fifteen degrees as we walked towards the stadium but once we get there i am excited to see as many peoples can and i know you talk about this early the week and i want you to stand on the soapbox not that you don't already in many in many ways we know that masks will be should be required. When you're in that stadium. They should be people should have no chance problem with that. Is the numbers rise throughout the country. It's getting worse and worse. But i heard yesterday on another Let's say show and you were having a ton of a strong statement about people who won't wear their masks or have a problem doing their mass..

"It's heidi here with sam gordon and we're gonna get into what happened. Here with the raiders at number seventeen in the nfl draft. Sam alex leatherwood offensive linemen from alabama selected. Seventeen for the. Las vegas raiders. What was your initial reaction. Because i know heidi first and foremost great to be here. I had a great time in cleveland. So far it's been a heck of an experience. Glad you're here With said In terms of your question definitely surprised right definitely surprised Not surprising right tackle. i Continued to voice leading up to the draft. I thought right tackle away to go was an obvious. Need in the offense of line of ministry of this team despite its it's consistent struggles. Last year's the offensive line was a pretty reliable unit and lot of turnover tram. Browns gone just going to be some reshuffling move out gave jackson you move out and you knew there was going to have to be some adjustments made and there was a glaring hole the right tackle and they went with right tackle so i they feel the need but just now player. I thought they'd fill that need with and you look at how the board was shaking out. Thought christian dare saw. I was going to be big especially considering what his grade was. And and and where. The raiders were picking. He wasn't now that said just because alex leatherwood is a surprise and we didn't expect him to be there doesn't mean he won't be a good player but it feels like more often than not the raiders. Under jon gruden. Mike mayock have reached for players that they could have gotten later and are maximizing the value of their first round picks damon are net in twenty twenty was a good example. That and even cleveland farrell. Who's a very good player by the way in the top five and twenty nineteen so a couple so with that in mind. I think alex leatherwood at trend. But the jury's still out on how good he's going to be i think he has a lot of potential beauge player was an all american big-time film comes from a big time program and he's gonna get his opportunity to prove mike. Megan jon gruden ryan look. I want to be optimistic about this. But i think there were other guys that were on the board. That had a lot of potential. And the raiders did go out here and they went out on a limb

"Renfrow expense because of the way he's able to free himself up underneath in clear out space for other guys downfield as well span clearing space rather guys down the field that would bring up the name of big plays as agents to see somebody that the raiders continue to invest and continue to mix in on schemes. Were you know they have more than three wide receivers out in the field or on occasion when somebody else getting a spell and the play. Yeah he. I'm curious to see kind of what happens with mess as she enters free agency. Heidi that the raiders brought him. He was traffic yet. A heck of a college career at east carolina was a record setting receiver and really just hasn't quite figured it out or found his footing at the nfl level yet. A solid year buffalo two thousand eighteen sixty two yards and seven touchdowns but in two years with the raiders. Only three hundred one yards and one touchdown so I don't necessarily think he's he's going to be somebody i mean. If there's a role for him he knows that four fifth six receiver. maybe he. Somebody the raiders. Look to bring back but they. They took a flyer on him by training for him in two thousand. Nineteen and his production did necessarily yield a contract extension or or long-term consideration with the raiders. So we'll see if there's there's other interests around the league but but he somebody. I would not be surprised. If the raiders move on from. Do not bring back already. Talked about how you know. We don't really think that the raiders would look that much into investing big dollars offensively as that big dollar money needs to be spent defensively but is there anybody out there that you think would make a good fit that the raiders may take a second look at if they are in fact available and willing to meet some pricing fit. But is there anybody else out there. The you think that could be a fit for this team but might be willing to fit into pay structure necessarily audio. Think i think would be perfect bringing him back. Maybe something like two years. Fifteen to your sixteen million dollars which seems to be what kind of the market would dictate for player of his skill. Set you solidify him on your team in his prime amd because of course of the aforementioned darren waller you don't necessarily need him to be that number one option you can be that deep threat. He can do what he was doing last year again. Or is that chemistry. You already have something kind of established with him in place. And then from that. Point forward of it's about banking on the development of the young receiver banking on bryan edwards. And henry wrote taking a step up banking on hundred zero continuing to be consistent option in the slot working on third downs to get working his way down the field at times and things like that so really if young receivers can can continue to develop and if you bring aguilar act i think that kind of solidifies which wanted to side of the ball from skill position stamped with waller aguilar The young receivers and then of course they are car. Quarterback offense took a big step forward and twenty twenty. And i i think they're lying for another Another small step in twenty twenty one..

"A eight hundred ninety six. That's a career. High eight touchdowns tied a career. High and I was really impressed with his stretch. The veal right average. Ten point nine yards per target far away a career high in eighteen point seven yards per reception so he was really that deep threat. Somebody can stretch to fuel. That could make big plays in that really balanced out. What what darren waller was able to do from the tight end position. So there's a walker for services. I think it would make sense for the raiders prioritize reunion back and like you touched on heidi may out gave a read norseman of what he meant to the team. Twenty twenty the kind of player. He is beer that hemisphere call that chemistry. There's already familiarity there. I think it will make much more sense to bring him in as he enters as twenty eight season entering the prime of his career as opposed to somebody like juju smith schuster but how much more productive are they going to be announcing aguilar. Was this past year matters. Here you can get if aguilar have you could come to terms with at a fair contract. That rewards him for his market value. But it's also a little bit more affordable thing that makes a lotta sense for both parties as to build office twenty twenty one roster great stuff there and when you talk about some of the younger guys that can help develop this team. We see bryan edwards. we see henry ruggs obviously. So let's start with rugs because he was obviously the first. Pick of the raiders draft last year and henry ruggs somebody. I think you know we talked about it before. A struggled with injury needs to develop a little bit more in route running. What do you expect to see out of him in the coming year wa. I think it's fair to expect a big big league We did see i mean. Let's face it. Four hundred and fifty two yards two touchdowns in thirteen games and then the kind of production. I think anybody expected from henry. Ruggs little disappointing there but at the same time. Heidi in all fairness i don't think direct speculations that he was gonna come in and like the world on fire via twelve hundred. Thirteen hundred god-like justin jefferson was. That wasn't him. I think the raiders understood that it was going to be a little bit more of a developmental process with him and they like his long term potential and that starts and ends with that for to speed that we saw on several occasions throughout the course of the season..

"I mean he from a kind of still standpoint. the the way he plays is very similar to josh. Jacobs the raiders. Like that mold of back somebody that can. They can bet big. That's powerful of that. Has some speed aching. Catch a pass out of the backfield. And that's what the monte booker did born and twenty rushing yards last year as the backup running back spelling jacobs four point five yards per carry very very impressive in that department considering what he was asked to do. And then seventeen receptions as well so he provided Amount of back that they wanted to provide a spell. Josh jacobs said he he didn't even make a million dollars last year having Round nine hundred thousand. So i would imagine he would be do a little bit of a race but i don't think it will cost. I don't think they have to break the bank to bring him back and given that like you said he's already familiar with the system. He's already been ingratiated within an locker room and has a role defined role If there's mutual interest there. I would expect him to be back for surrey. Stolen we twenty eight twenty nine here in may so presumably plenty of football. I level football left for him. It's not like he's had a big workload throughout the course of his career with three hundred and eighty two carries so i think there still is a lot of value. Bring somebody back like the demonte broker a lot of teams these days. Deploy that kind of strategy see it all over the place. There's not just any particular running back anymore. It's very rare that you have a team that has just one guy that carries the full workload. So i like the idea of being able to have those kinds of spells. Josh jacobs for the raiders. Because i think over the long term plan when you wanna keep a guy like jacobs that definitely is Something that can help. It's advantageous to him and his chevy running back also in same keeping different Backfield's with mixed up different types of running back some players. They have allocated goals fullback. But he's definitely a integral part of this offense. I'd say from blocking to being somebody who can get through on that goldline punch. What do you think about gold and how this year. The raiders might look to even expand his role. Yeah i mean he's somebody. I think that's been a reliable reliable in that role for the raiders. He had he caught. Twelve passes this past year of one hundred ten yards double what he calls rookie in two thousand nineteen so not a crazy amount of production but he caught a touchdown in each season and he is valuable as a blocker and doing different things. Look at the way the games play now. Heidi obviously most teams. Don't traditionally us a fullback but it gives like you said it gives you a chance to your offense a chance to have a little bit more variety. Do some more things to be a little bit more to. He can he. Can he can. Leak out and pass patterns. You can be a lead blocker. He could stand in there. Pass along twenty two percent of the snaps the offensive snaps twenty twenty twenty percent last year and he's a really really crucial player on his special teams. He played half their special teams snaps. So he's somebody that i think is valuable just kind of a role as a football player. Not necessarily in the backfield. I don't think that's where most of his value is. I think it's all the things you can do for you in all the phases of the game so He's definitely somebody. I the raiders like adding on. Its amy's showcases. Toughness planned through some injuries this year. And and it's a kind of guy kind of culture. Got somebody that that you want in your locker room. You want your backfield..

"Twenty one at the raiders are are going to keep him and he's due to make ten point six million dollars. That is his base salary for cap. Hit just above that ten point seven million dollars and they already paid off his guarantees. We know they brought him on in twenty twenty as the highest paid backup quarterback in the nfl of kind of rebuilding project after sustained some injuries and lost his starting spot in tennessee now he proved during that one game he played was only a game against the chargers this past season but he came off the bench and was very impressive. In relief of derek carr injured his neck game up showcasing mobility a throw. The ball downfield being accurate. Making good. Save for the one interception really playing is as well as you would expect or as well as people could have hoped giving the situation. He was coming off the bench to having not played for for more than a year. I say all that to say. I would be surprised if the raiders. Bring him back at that at that salary at that point regimented nathan peterman because it feels like with bring him back the word they've spent with him he's been on the roster a couple years now really feels like they've tried to develop him into a backup kind of quarterback in somebody. You know not just a little cheaper significantly cheaper than marcus more yards so it gives them. Maybe there's another team in that mold of indianapolis of a chicago of a washington football team. Who can't find who doesn't find their long-term answer quarterback this off season and saw they like from our iota. Maybe they go out there and trade for him whether it's a future draft pick or player. Whatever or if that doesn't happen if there's not a market that materialized for marcus myo cup eight with him. He becomes a free agent and they walk away without having to pay any of that guaranteed money. That was taking care of a twenty twenty so the peterman moved to me. Heidi definitely feels like he's going to become the backup or that. He solidifies his role as a backup. Quarterback doesn't Sense given the needs. The raiders have across the the other side of the ball on defense and even on the offense a little bit trampled through the offensive line and round out. The receiving core doesn't make sense to pay marcus. Mariota that kind of money to not so last year when we looked at it about this time of year we were talking about. Maybe mariota is going to challenge car and car could be you know. Absurd to his. I starting spot there. But that wasn't the case it turned into more of a. We're going to try to look and let him heal with marietta and let them develop and learn the system. Do you think though that other teams have seen enough in the about three quarters of work that they were able to see. Mariota put in with the raiders. Think other teams saw enough for the raiders to be able to actually shop him as backup or make some sort of trade with somebody else. Not necessarily i think it's one of those things where push comes to shove a. We're kind of at the end of that. Free agency period was after the draft is still teams. That don't have solidified their quarterback solidified. Then maybe they go out there and make a move. But i don't think he's the kind of player right now at this at least at this point in time we know about the talent. Let's not forget. He was number two overall pick and he has had some success in the league..

"So make sure it always come back and check that out but what this is. This is the raiders off season edition. And that means sam gordon. I are going to have you covered rigging down each individual group of the raiders. Defense and offense by position so we got everything started off with the defense. I know that's what everybody wants to hear. Most about the raiders. Finish in the bottom half of the nfl and close to the bottom in certain areas. So let's get. It started right now as we opened up our series by talking about the raiders. Defense and specifically pass rush. We did have to hold ourselves. Expanded comfortable professional football. That was reader's defensive cle- farrel talking about the standards. The he wants to see the raiders. Pass rush hold themselves to as we approach twenty twenty one. The off season in the works right. Now for the raiders and twenty twenty. The pass rush was not what they wanted it to be and right now. We're going to start breaking that down at. Sam gordon your raiders writer and heidi fang your podcast hosts. And we're going to start getting into that right now but first of all sam. Welcome to the show. How is the offseason treating man so far so good. Heidi appreciate your help. Me excited to be back in. The news is right. Gus rally so to me. That was kind of the forest dominated. Who jon gruden in company. We're going to select to be that. Defensive coordinator i i think what we're really going to see is that's that's the rest of the offseason gonna. That's the first domino. So everything about their offseason is gonna follow soon. But he's in place now he brings with him a track record and a lot of experience so really curious to see what he does. And what jon gruden and mike mayock do collectively to build defense. We talk about that experience and it started off with being part of the group intrigue. He came to Jon gruden in two thousand and six with the bucket near so this is a man who helped create one of the more feared defensive units in the nfl starting with the seattle seahawks. So what are you. make a what. He started there with the legion of boom what he did with the linebacker groups. The buccaneers news gruden. How do you think that all of this. That he's had the collective years of experience will help the raiders. I think it's huge. I think he kind of checks all the boxes. That jon gruden wanted to address the defensive coordinator right. We talked about the experience He's been a defensive coordinator in multiple multiple stops with of course as you mentioned the seahawks and then of course most recently the los angeles chargers he has head coaching experience in e talk during his introductory press conference. A what that kind of meant for him and how that helps him as a defensive coordinator and then he's got a track record for player development. And i think that's the most intriguing thing for me is what he was able to do as a developer of talent..

"Point about trading the trading first round pick for an established veteran is team. Need to get any younger like they were already really really young on the defensive side of the ball and that's show i could definitely benefit from a another. You know marci veteran if anybody's available if anybody emerged on the market and somebody always does right there. There's nobody somebody's disgruntled. There's a situation where somebody wants out. There's always somebody that emerges that that's in play for for for t- tray so that's definitely worth monitoring here leading up to the draft. Things like that secrets started. But but i'm with you. I think there's enough youth on this defense in his time to bring in if possible. It would make sense to bring a veteran high level leader. Somebody that could really. We talked all year this the defense. There's good players. There are quality players on this defense unit. In and of itself wasn't good but there were quality players. Were able to make place. But you didn't have that that game breaking player that player that demanded a double team. That player that that you didn't throw to that you that you just avoid it in the past game. You didn't throw a his like that. And if somebody like that is available with young players already developing we bring in a new defensive coordinator and possibly Adjustment to fit the strikes. These players wore coached them up. Develop it will make sense to go out and get somebody heavy hitter as i like to say on a defense. That could really make megan back to it. Helped augment shrinks of other guys right. And you know if you're worried about giving up a first round pick you know the rams have another first round picks twenty sixteen. The last first round pick they had was a guy by the name jared goff. They traded i to go get him. That traded first round picks to get you know guys like brennan cooks in jalen ramsey and marcus. Peters guys that you know. They felt like we'd rather have the veteran guy. Come in here. Those will be our first round picks. So like if you're the raiders and you could have gotten jamal adams that would have been first round. Pick good luck finding jamal adams at seventeen or a you know. That's kind of the what we're what we're saying here are stefan digs well. The vikings found justin jefferson with that with that. Pick so weirdly that worked out for both teams. But you know it's okay for things to work out for both teams right like that's fine both like an app. Sure there's a situation or maybe there's a situation. I can't sure but maybe there's a situation that develops where it would be that kind of thing where it works out for. Both teams of the raiders were to a draft pick. Yeah and i almost. I mean knowing how you know You know just talk to a matters. Always tell me you be shocked people. The world would be shocked if they found out who is actually being talked about in trains. Right all the stuff that that never you know. Material that the trades at yet talked about but never materialized. I think everyone would be shocked. The big names that are sometimes being talked about so it always an end point being trust me. There's always somebody for whatever reason like you decide. Disgruntled the contracts coming up the other. The team in question might be looking at their salary. Cap say we love to have him but man..

"Podcast it's the raiders post edition. Starting now or excited. you know. we obviously are sick. That it's over you know. We didn't expect to lose that game last week. We felt we. We had a chance to beat the chargers and we had the chiefs on sunday night. Football late in the game. We gotta learn from these things. We've got to improve our fourth quarter. Pass rush we'll get into all the things we need to do later but one thing this team does know how to do. They will compete. They will compete every week. They want six games on the road. i think it's been very uncommon in raider history for teams to go on a road and win six times so there's a lot to be positive about an anxious to go home and get some sleep. Welcome everybody to the vegas nation post game. Podcast the final. Podcasts of the raiders. Twenty twenty season ending on a high note thirty to thirty one against the denver broncos and the eight eight record. Has you heard jon. Gruden say there in the opening just makes them sick that they didn't have more time more games at the season's coming to an end now as there were some bright spots that we saw out at the raiders. Here in this win. But i'm joined right now with adam hill and ed grainy. We're going to break down everything here for you. And this podcast is brought to you by sam nash. Injury law and presented by blue. Wires has all right guys. Let's get into it. And i want to hear from both of you on this because when you look at this final win here the another single point game that we almost a repeat of what happened in with the miami game in allegiant. It was almost one of those games that could have gone the other way if it were just for one play here. One play there and that seems to be with. The main theme has been of the raiders season. So adam let's go to you first. I wanna get your take on this one point win and what it meant here in the final minute. For the raiders support through victory. Yeah disaster complete and total disaster. You you mentioned it like you pointed out the fact that there's so many of these games this year and how many of them went the wrong way..

"Fingers both short-term and long-term questions about this defense. You know like you said the coaching the personnel. And what are they going to do. Moving forward we'll find out but but it's clear that this wasn't cutting it and it was time to make a change and i get it. I get why he made the change. Now yeah no no doubt about it and you know It's a tough part of the business. Paul guenther is a good man. He was a class act and always accommodating So you know he he gets the blame for it This is a big boy business. He's he's got a strong enough shoulders to carry that. I'm sure he's going to land on his heat somewhere He's equality coach. I'm not so sure he'll have to probably you know Climb back up that ladder. But you know he's valued as a on the defensive side of the ball. He'll get another coaching job and another opportunity Fairly soon the question now is can rodman ellie you know. Create some semblance of order hear and some line of resistance that enables. What is really a prolific offense of for the raiders. Even last night scoring or yesterday scoring twenty seven points You know couple of a couple of turnovers that that the hurt the raiders. But it was just seemed like every time. The raiders offense either took the lead which they actually did believe it or not Or got to three points or seven points. Every time they crept a little bit closer. The defense would just automatically give a long touchdown drive or field goal. Drive in and control would be relinquished. And or and you know the colts would would Would further their control it. Just you just never felt like at any point to be honest. That the raiders were capable of slowing down a colts offense. That's okay but they're not great. You know and you. You've got an older quarterback sitting back there. Philip rivers who is prone to make mistakes when you get some heat on the put a put a finger on him. Basically yesterday he just sat tall and happy and confident in the pocket and waited for wide receivers to get open and made throws easy. Basically easy throws to. Yeah it's just it's you know. Ken rat rod marinelli You know obviously. He's not going to solve all their problems. I've been we've been talking about this for a while there..

"Summary and insight. Bad day yesterday at allegiance stadium and so bad that it actually cost defensive coordinator. Paul guenther his job after a series of just struggles defensively and culminating yesterday with the forty four twenty seven loss to the colts at allegiant stadium And with just three games left in the season and the raiders needed to win all three to get in the playoffs dire situation sometimes results in dire consequences and plug up gets fired as defensive coordinator. He'll be replaced on an interim basis by defensive line coach rod marinelli longtime friend. Longtime associate of jon gruden. We'll see where that takes the raiders before we get started. And before i bring in my teammate and co host. Sam gordon Just want to say that. This podcast is sponsored by sam ash injury law and presented by pepsi. Indeed in favour shot. Drink a favor dot com Sam gordon welcome in. It was a busy day yesterday at allegiance stadium. A not a good way for the raiders for paul guenther or their fans You know really Harmful loss a forty. Four twenty seven setback against the indianapolis colts pushes the raiders. Two games now behind the colts in the playoff race and it makes their life really difficult over these next three weeks although not that complicated when their next three games and they'll at least put themselves in a position to make the playoffs but the absolutely needs some help along the way and we'll get into that. How you doing. Sam video will do will well like you said Absolutely devastating loss yesterday for the raiders. Not all hope is lost as you mentioned And like you said we'll get into that but certainly a lot of hope Swan yesterday. with that with that loss to the the apple is called so excited to be back with you decided to break it all down. Yeah and You know one way that l. It's very very complicated but One of the most ways at the raiders can get to the play. Offs is if the cleveland. Browns beat the baltimore ravens on monday night. Football and then. The raiders win their next three games. That'll put them in pretty solid ground on pretty solid ground for the playoffs other. There's so many other tangible and dynamics that come into play to say that that would be a guarantee not quite ready to go there yet because we really have to take a look at all tiebreakers and all that.

This chargers game Anything that you would take notes from today that you think that might be able to turn around on a very short week here. Especially because The new rules cova. Yeah it's it's It's gonna be tough story. Who's more resilient to bounce back. The chargers are gonna be coming off a win The raiders are gonna be coming off a loss in that situation sometimes. The losses even better. Because you know it's your attention They have a lot to play for. i'll be interested to see how they come out Under rod marinelli this week.
