Ali Velshi Understands Katie Hobbs Not Wanting to Debate Lies

"It's interesting. You tweeted, Katie Hobbs, the midterms are a choice between sanity or chaos. I wonder where you come down on her not debating thing. I was talking about politics girl. I'm sure you've seen her on Twitter's terrific. But she said, you know, her first instinct is, oh, she should, why wouldn't she? But her conclusion at the end is she understands why she's not and supports that because I understand it. I'll say, let's look at the examples, right? Of debates that work in debates that don't work. Herschel Walker and Raphael Warnock, in my opinion, worked. Because Rafa were not didn't have to do anything. Herschel even just stand on stage with Herschel Walker and that's all you have to do. So that worked. In my opinion. I think that there's a guy running against Marjorie Taylor green, who, you know, normally there isn't even a candidate running against her. And he debated her. And I thought, it's not going to win him any votes in that district, but I thought it worked because he came across as, hey, I'm a thoughtful, interesting person. Yeah. Carrie Lake is on another planet. Yeah. Right? She's not very good at television. Her rally seemed like rock concerts. I don't know. On one hand, you know, Katie Hobbs is a measured exactly the person you want is the Secretary of State. She's a measured person. She's terrified. And talk about it. Talk about courage. I mean, the amount of death threat she and her families and her endurance. She has been in a place where they have a lot of extra guns. So politics zero point was basically, it's like wrestling with a pig. You know, you both get dirty, but the people likes it. Oh, I get it? But I also feel like these Arizona politicians are running away with stuff because it's so easy to gaslight people now. Yeah. And so I don't know. And I don't want to, I don't want to, I don't want to second guess anybody's decision because I think it's offensive to debate. I think it's great to debate almost everything, except lies,

"Went through the phase to Google Google and online and everything. And so for me, it was natural to use the Internet to like my dad for whom it wasn't like a natural thing. And Bitcoin is a natural thing for the younger generation, which wasn't for us. We are fascinated by Bitcoin and we all we want to do is Bitcoin and we want to read Bitcoin and everything, but younger kids, they're not as I feel like I feel younger generations are not as passionate about Bitcoin itself for what it means for society because they're growing in a world where Bitcoin is just a natural thing. It's just going to be, you know, it's money. It's digital money. There's no you don't have to ask how does the email protocol work and how is an email sent? And what server receives it and how does my email client read it? It's not relevant. I just log into login website and I just look at my email and kids are more and more is going to be natural for them. And so that's why I'm very different about that third question. What can I change? Politicians being more open to Bitcoin. Or just, you know, get rid of politicians. Touche. A magic wand, you know, we're just going to wave the magic wand and believe that. When you hear Elizabeth Warren talk about the energy, the Bitcoin uses, or you have someone bring up her, whatever, oh, I get using it's boiling the ocean blah blah blah. What is your response to the Bitcoin energy argument? Energy protects Bitcoin. Energy is what gives Bitcoin its security. And so that one has to use energy. That's great. But all you need to make Bitcoin is cheap energy and an Internet connection. And so places that typically had a lot of energy that wasn't used can be used for Bitcoin. And so I don't think that energy argument is any anything but you need to explain it to because I was speaking about this with one of my family members. Yesterday, he asked me the same question and I have to explain to you energy is what gives Bitcoin a security and would protect Bitcoin double spend when I hear people like Elizabeth Warren, I think it's not ignorance. I don't think she's in her room about this. There are other motives here in play. That are beneficial to her agenda or people like her agenda. And so I think you have to. I don't waste my time trying to understand what she's people like. In my mind, it is very clear that Bitcoin is unstoppable. It's going to be adopted by the whole world. It's just a matter of time. So these people can say whatever they want. It's okay. I don't have an opinion about it. And that's it, right? People are going to attack Bitcoin from every angle, always, and the more mainstream it becomes, the more it's going to be attacked. Absolutely. I kind of feel like we've reached that point where it is mainstream because even in the midst of this bear market, you have CNBC every day all here is the price of Bitcoin. Rafa, as we widen down, I want to give you the opportunity. Is there anything you wished we had asked you that P obviously forgot to ask you that you'd like to highlight. I don't think so. "Free to express their opinions and speak their minds. I think that is for at least for me an important thing of living in a free society. And I would never want to feel that narrative has to be controlled or anything people should just be able to say whatever they want to say. And Bitcoin is going to keep turning along. It's not going to stop. I also very much appreciate and I'm going to take the liberty of changing your words, but it almost feels like these narratives that we're discussing. It's a privilege to be in a position to discuss those versus being in a situation where you are unbanked and you have no choice. And this is a life raft to save you from the situation that you find yourself in. Yeah, that's a way of putting it. And we are all passionate about Bitcoin. We're always going to be looking for anything that anybody says about Bitcoin. They want to read it, right? That's just how it is. But Bitcoin is the most reliable computer ever made. No other computer in the world has run for as long as Bitcoin without ever stopping. And I think it's an important note. There was, I think, Chris, correct me if I'm wrong. There was a long block wait time over the weekend as well. And then last weekend, there was also an almost, I think it was 85 minutes, yeah. Of a block time. And crypto people were like, oh, look, Bitcoin stopped, but like, dead end stop, it continues to go. And I love if you can just kind of, you don't need to nor do I want you to discuss what shit coins you went down the path of. But can you just share for some of our audience members who may be lost, who may be in the weeds of ship coins, what first drew you away from Bitcoin? And then what was it that brought you back to say like, yo, this is all just stupid. Bitcoin is the only real valuable digital currency. I think how easy it is for programmers was what brought me to other places, like building stuff, another crypto platforms was easier than building on Bitcoin. And that's what made me interested in exploring other areas. But there is so much irresponsibility and bullshit in those spaces that there was a point where I couldn't keep up anymore with what was going on. It focused morally irresponsible to continue down that path instead of building something for the future and something that I'm going to look back on and feel proud of myself having contributed to humanity into advancement of human society. Then that's where that's what I want to work in Bitcoin. That's what you see here. Is that I'm proud of what I do. And I didn't feel proud of other working in other areas. Bitcoin is a solid platform. It's something that something that, yeah, I think it comes down to that being proud of the work that I do. As everyone should be. So he has Rafa convinced a stop shit coining. I haven't shitcoin since 1978. Also, Rafa, did you know? How old do you think P is genuine? Oh my God, this old chestnut. We have beaten this horse to death, and you say that. You say that. And yet I still get laughs. 30 5? If you add a one to the beginning of that number, that was a 100% on the stream, so the joke is that I am a highlander, which of course I am. And I've been around forever. She continues to freeze his body and then defrost it to reenter society and civilization. He has seen a lot of things. How many style? In cyclopedia of knowledge. The only reason that the show is always from the shoulders up is because below this is the cyborg body. Nobody has seen me in person in years. I want to ask a totally different question. One of the things that I. Read a lot of science fiction. And I feel like a lot of fiction inspires a lot of the positive changes that we see in society. And I'm curious what fiction we talk a lot about things like the mandibles, which is not science fiction that's more like science fact, but I'm curious if there's anything that is outside of Bitcoin that you focus your energy on that impacts how you think about Bitcoin and what those things might be. Meditation. I think your self knowledge stoicism as I said when I was when I read my first look at BigQuery just throw it away. But it didn't think about it. I need to be more open and aware of my surroundings. I think being practicing that the ability of being with the word is maybe mindful, I don't know, but being more open to listening to new things. I think it's a process of being a more mature person as you get older, not never discarding anything just because it doesn't fit my current frame of mind. And so people are, I think, I don't know. I don't really do a lot of stuff with Bitcoin in my family. That's pretty much all I do. But meditation and practicing the ability to remove yourself from your drop your ego and you drop your preconceptions and mental things that sort of block you, block you from seeing the world as it is, I think those are practicing that is something that's very, very powerful. And I think a lot of people are doing it more and more. Some people may do it through meditation, others through psychedelics, but there's different ways of sort of removing your ego or the metal sort of blockers that you may have and be more open to new things and listening to looking at the truth of the world. I think society is more and more moving towards that. Not everyone, like a lot of people, there's a lot of distractions in social media and things like that that poor people away from focusing on themselves. But I think that's one thing that's going to help us or change the way that society works in the future, being more mindful of those things is not just a technological thing. It's an evolution towards self awareness that is going to that is quickly changing your perception of things, for example, Bitcoin, right? How many paradigms did I have to break in order to understand Bitcoin? I looked at Bitcoin from the technical side. I was like, this is cool. But then on the sort of philosophical thing, the philosophical perspective of what is money, how does money work, what is value? I have to go into that rabbit hole of the blog posts that are of your written example, of his research and stuff is incredible. And so I went down that rabbit hole and it helped me understand that there is more to the world more there's more to money than what meets the eye and yeah, I think that's sort of what we're sort of evolving towards in some way. What do you think? I'd love to hear what you think. Human let you take this one first. I'll be about the mentality. Or specifically what? Robert, you want to articulate the questions if you can. So I think your question for you was what advances or new changes in science fiction? Do you think do you think are affecting the way society behaves? I think that was a question. Just the idea of the metaverse, I think it's like making us dumber. Candidly, it's this idea of, oh, let's do this. Let's focus all of our energy over here. When in fact, we have so many broken systems in place and we are rather than trying to fix the money. We're more worried about, let's get a bunch of digital art set up in a digital environment because that is where the future of our society will live. Man, I'm still waiting for my flying car and hoverboard and self tying Nikes, all right? Robert Zemeckis promised me these things very, very. Using two variants of the wrong approach there, but I was promised these things buy Back to the Future and I've yet to receive them. And I think society would be a lot better if we just abandoned all of these things and focused more on easier travel. Right now, the fact that the best we could do for travel around the world is an airplane, which is truly an incredible phenomenon, but there's no added innovation. We're not trying to expand on that. We're not trying to improve on that. You have the metaverse taking up so much time. In fact, one of the largest businesses in the world shifted their entire business model to focus on this and it just bleeds their business money now and there is a class of people who genuinely think this is the future. We've seen what was it Google glass try to enter the VR world. We saw Microsoft with their VR headset. We have meta now with their VR headsets. You have this push towards virtual reality while we then choose to forget how to live in real reality. What does that lead into? P that leads into your bug protein that leads into the 3D printed meat that leads into this idea that we don't need things from the real world anymore. And I think that is a very dangerous path to go down. But that said, we don't need real world money. We need digital money. One thing that surprisingly recently was my son, he told me that I built you on my 7 year old son. He told me that I built you a house on

"So. I totally lost my train. I thought they had the question and then it was just like, nah, you're not going to get this question. Out of your mouth, pee back to you. I guess I'm just. My band is always towards the more I remember at stop talking P okay, we saw yesterday the news about this hack that happened in within the lightning network, a lot of people up in arms about it upset. Hold on hold on. It was not a hack. Let's be very clear. This was clear issue. Okay, so this is an issue that Barack, who, you know, I don't know, a couple weeks back can contributed a or made a transaction that BTC D, which is used by L and D, which is one of the more popular lightning protocol implementations. Somebody transaction and it essentially broke L and D so that required a hot fix, which was pushed out very quickly. Then yesterday, there was another transaction that he created, which did not have the same level of disruption to the network, but also affected L and D and there's been an interesting controversy because some people are saying like, hey man, why are you why are you sort of black hat style submitting these transactions, which negatively affect the lighting network, the argument is you're creating you're creating FUD around the lightning network and then the other side of it is, well, Bitcoin is for enemies. Bitcoin is an adversarial environment. So if you're seeing these issues, you absolutely are entitled to call them out and to create transactions that are going to cause this level of controversy so that they get fixed as rapidly as possible. So that's what's going on. It's definitely not a hack. No funds were lost. In fact, on the most recent one, end users would not have even noticed, but there was a sort of negative press for lighting labs and because they're the ones that produce L and D. So that's what we're talking about, but cute please continue. All of what piece had Rafa, I'd love your thoughts on whether this was an appropriate necessary thing. Would you have done things differently or the same? I know some of the lightning labs folks would probably would have taken a different approach, but as pset, it's lightning, it should be what should be resilient and anybody should be able to attack it and I think I would definitely have done it in a different manner, but it is what it is with great power comes great responsibility, man. We need if you want to custody your own money, you should be responsible for making sure you have the latest update of the software, right? We stand on the shoulders of giants, all the people who have contributed to Bitcoin, all the companies who are working on the lightning protocol. And so that's how I see it. And so I wouldn't try to back it because I respect everyone's work. And I think I want to push I want to create fun. But the whole point of Bitcoin is to protect you from the adversaries and enemies. So I think we are super connected to all the different channels of communication for all the different software components that we use in our stack, and we're always checking that everything is up to up to date, but yeah, it is what it is. I have nothing else to say about that. Fair. P unless there was anything else you wanted to talk lightning in particular ibex. I wanted to switch it now back to just Rafa, because at the beginning of the conversation in Rafa, you brought up two things that I think most, if not all bitcoiners kind of go through the two things being the first time you heard about Bitcoin, you literally ignored it. I myself did the exact same thing. In fact, when I attempted to send myself things in college and found out that I had to use Bitcoin as the payment, I was like, ah, what is this? Now, that's the hurdle that I don't want to deal with. So no, and it took me until 2017 as well. I'd love it if you could just share advice for those people who maybe are just now coming back to Bitcoin or have been turned off by Bitcoin of different ways they can try to re approach. I learned that expensive lessons, I think at that point, always give everything a chance, I think, give everything a chance to learn. I think I learned to always hear everyone here be more aware of my surroundings and not be as certain of I know what's right and what's wrong and I have like, you know, being more aware of my ignorance and more open to the lessons and things out in the world that I can learn, I think that's what Bitcoin taught me. What can I tell people who have been turned off by the thing is when I finally understood Bitcoin, I haven't been turned up by bigger. I drove down the rabbit hole. There's no way I'm coming back. I had to find a job in Bitcoin because there was no way of getting rid of this virus. I think this is probably not the best thing to say, but Bitcoin is like a religion. And so Bitcoin, every Bitcoin that you meet sort of agrees on certain principles of what's right and what's wrong. Sort of like moral principles. And I think anybody who's sort of been turned out by turned off by Bitcoin should sort of look at those principles of Bitcoin, not your keys, not your wallet, verify, don't trust all these sort of main credits of Bitcoin. They make sense to everyone.

"Excited to introduce our guest today is the chief technical officer at ibex Mercado. He's a lifelong Bitcoin learner and advocate as well as a lifelong pleb. Rafah cardone, welcome to the show. Thank you. How's it going? Happy to be here. Excited to have you. Rafa, for our audience who may not be as familiar with you, do you mind giving them a little bit of background on who you are and how you got into Bitcoin in the first place? Sure. So I'm at the CTO at ibex. IMAX is a Bitcoin payments company. We help this merchants and enterprises get onboarded onto Bitcoin. So our job is to bring Bitcoin to as many people as possible through our enterprise and business customers. How did I get into Bitcoin? I got into Bitcoin back. Well, I read the white paper white paper in 2011. And I read it, it was like, too complicated and I threw it away. A lot of people probably did. 100%. And I got the second time that I saw Bitcoin and I finally paid attention back. It was back in 2017. I was working at a database consulting company. We did database projects like large database implementations for telcos and financial services firms. And I was doing research on distributed databases. So I came into Bitcoin more from the technical side than the philosophical perspective. I was looking at distributed databases and how this is technical stuff, but there's this thing called a cap theorem about a consistency availability and the ability to partition the database. And I was trying to figure out how to build a distributed database system for generating transactions. And it seemed impossible. And then I saw Bitcoin and I was like, oh my God, this is like a lot of things. It is possible to have transactions in a distributed system. The Byzantine generals problem. I love that. So that's how I got into Bitcoin and I went through my, I have to confess that I went through my shit going tour of duty. That can back in the day. But. I finally learned that Bitcoin is the only is the only digital money so higher I joined ibex and I've been building cool stuff ever since. I think we're also we're underselling the massive success and innovation that ibex has been part of. Can you tell us, can you give us some of the stats? Really pitch our audience on why ivax is amazing. Obviously you guys have been involved in El Salvador. You guys have been involved with Bitcoin Amsterdam. You helped us set up lightning enabled systems all throughout the conference. You guys have done an incredible amount of amazing shit, specifically related to lighting. Tell us about it. Give me some hype. Thank you. It's been a wild ride for us. Ibex started as an OTC desk in Guatemala to help people in Guatemala by Bitcoin. When I bought my first Bitcoin and Guatemala, they literally got it from a guy in the street and paid cash. So there was like no formal way for people to access Bitcoin Guatemala. So I've started in 2018 doing that. And when the Bitcoin law was announced back in 2021, a couple of us were in Miami and we realized, holy shit, we need to go to El Salvador and figure out how to help that would be successful over there. So we are most of the guys are from Guatemala, and Guatemala is a four hour drive away from San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. So literally two days later, we drove down to El Salvador and started meeting with businesses and we were like, okay, how can we help you? With Bitcoin, do you have any plans for this? And what we first learned is that maybe the president of El Salvador knew what Bitcoin was, but the majority of Bitcoin of the business owners have no idea that or they had zero education. So the first thing we did is we filled up conference rooms in hotels in El Salvador with people with business folks like business owners to help them learn and explain Bitcoin one O one and we did like the whole thing. And that's when we realized, okay, they business owners and merchants have no way of accepting

It was a long night, but it was a fun night. Boy, there's a lot to unpack, but let's start with just the top line news. First, let's go from east to west. Michigan Tudor Dixon won, two open doors. Very exciting candidate. Yeah, tutor, we actually know pretty well. She's actually been a big supporter of turning point for a long time. So we're really excited to form a rap host. Former Rafa's wonderful. And yeah, I think that you saw some of that carryover too. I mean, Michigan is a Trump state. Clearly. Because John Gibbs. This is the other one we want to talk about. We had absolutely on if you looked on paper 20 years ago and you saw a candidate like John Gibbs, you'd be like, the guy has no shot, right? Yep. And today it's a different world where the electorate is paying a lot more attention. And Peter Meyer and his whole gang of like just do whatever you want and don't care about the Republican Party. Those days are over clearly. Well, they are over. He lost. Yeah, and so Peter Meyer and voting for impeachment. Super snake. It's more than that though. I mean, some people are talking about, we'll talk about Meghan McCain's tweet today. We'll get to Arizona. We're going to get to what we'll get there, but the establishment, what they don't understand and what they are really dealing with right now is they haven't worked with the Republican Party for years. They haven't cared about the Republican Party. They haven't cared about the grassroots. And what we're seeing is this whole revival of this real grassroots movement, something that you saw, you know, like in the 70s, really start to cause the Reagan revolution. And I think that's where we're at right now,

Listen to these quarterfinals. Tell me that's not pop. W five hundred. You've got mertens taken on putin savior. You've got cass. Akina taken on magdula net on a konia taking on shwe's zhang danielle collins taken on a rebecca. Five of your top aide. Still alive at the five hundred in particular again the power tennis reebok and i did go back and watch her. Play clearly because those are two of my Two of the players. I just think super town. I think are going to be in the mix Certainly rebecca perhaps more so than lou. But i think we're gonna be talking about blue route. These twenty twenties nevertheless The discipline from rebecca to drop that verse to set it reminds me of a sap elanca match words. Like for twenty minutes. It just wasn't clicking for rebecca but then she let that t- switch. She shook it off. She approached the accent. Got the bay on from there just found her rhythm was cruising so i thought that was a really nice performance from her. I loved how competitive collins stevens was. I mean a great contrast of styles too because stevens trying to grind a little bit more collins. Going mach five whenever the opportunity presented itself. That was a super super fund match. I think collins getting over the hump in that third set sort of the manifestation of the confidence. She built with her successes on the european clay..

"And yet with the ranking protections. He is still only at number one fifteen in the live rankings. Now one more victory for him he gets into the top one hundred. He gets to number ninety nine in the world. That's where he belongs. I mean you look at the live. you look at the yellow rankings. I've mentioned he's been a top thirty five guy really all season long still is top thirty five in both overall alot and twenty twenty one specific elo. You look at the atp race again. How many points of view accumulated since the start of the year. Compared to your compatriots jensen brooks be right now. Currently inside the top fifty five of the number fifty four and again. He's been a top fifty guy here in two thousand twenty one. I think we all agree. Plus we've got the summer hardcourt stretch coming up an opportunity for him to play some really really good tennis. I believe he just got a wildcard. And where do you just get a wild. I thought was a qualifying wildcard into the rogers cup. That feels about right Certainly again. I think we all agree. Success is in the future for johnson and tweeted out at everyone was saying. Oh i think quarters the guy with a grand slam upside. I think nakashima is going to be really really solid. I don't know what to say about brooks be. Well brooks speech the one who's last the brooks people who still live here at the twenty twenty one city open. I think. That's just the story of jason brooks. But he is going to be staying alive throughout the course of his career but again those that was a complete thirty minutes city open breakdown. That's where we were at on your round of sixteen thursday in terms of friday's quarter-finals. It's harris verse nishikori. it's mackey verse. Could la sinner verse. Stevie j millman verse. Johnson brooks mill and by the way three and six win over riley. Oh palca that's a phone quarter-final slate from me now certainly if your mark on your dc. You're like we would have loved to have rafa nishi. Corey would've loved to keep often. You did see a precipitous decline in the price for twenty twenty. One city opened tickets following ross's exit. But i mean look. I think a brooks piece in her semi-final or like a brooks spe- could la final. I think our brooks benishi corey. I think there's a lot of fun per mutations that four fans i mean. I'm happy with all of them. But i think you're you know you're normies will certainly enjoy many of these matches as well. The idea of hometown hit could take it on. The young rising american star brooks be. I think that's spicy final as well. That could get the city open. Crowd pretty engaged Pretty amped but overall again. It's been really really fun week in d. c. cannot get enough credit to mark carlos silva who they have the women's exhibition events starting now as well. Unfortunately jen brady having to pull out. But vita coco goff. Jeff pohjola plane. Some exhibition matches at night. It's a super super fun time and it's really really great. So if you are in the greater dc area what do they call the dc area. There's a word for it. I forget But anyways if you're in the dc area feel free to you you should. You should come city open. Because it's an absolute freakin blast end. Look you know again. "Were now he's got a date with twenty fifteen. I believe city open champion. Caney she coronado nisha on the title before. I don't remember if it was fifteen. Might have been fourteen but he earns a three six six three six three win over. Twenty twenty one's most improved player on the hp to or cam nor you look for nishikori was the discipline. Was the fitness. Was super hot out there. Courts plane a little bit quicker in those conditions and look nor he's going to move the ball around so well on hardcourt he's going to gain you into the outer thirds he's going to you know slowly but surely create a little bit more space a little bit more space a little bit more space before going down the line and taking advantage of that space taking the ball early in yet nishikori did a great job of neutralizing that fact nishikori did a great job sticking to his plays executing plus one. Tennis he wins. makes sixty eight percent of his first-serve perhaps most impressively when sixty two percent of his first-serve points sixty seven percent of his second. Serve points creates twelve breakpoint chances for himself and most impressively goes nineteen of twenty seven on cam. Nori second serve points again. He was just in the moments that you know. Because that the cam nori second serve. Which by the way noori made seventy two percent of his first serves he only hit. Twenty seven seconds serves out of a total of ninety five serves in the map so roughly thirty percent of his serves were second serves. That's pretty good number. If you're cam nori and yet the moment nishikori hit got that easy. Plus one bob win big with the return just got neat norrie on his back foot right away while cam is fine on his back foot. You just can't be playing backfoot tennis against caney. She corey even at this stage of his career because when he plays bass he's going to be hitting through he isn't aggressive baseliner he is on top of that baseline is a really nice result for caney. She corey who certainly again. Thirty thirty one years old or thirty two. Maybe now just dealt with so many different injuries over the course of his career thirty one years old there we go turns thirty two. I believe in december and yet thirty one not old like can we be honest in modern tennis. Not old at all. And you know if i told you. Thirty one year old novak djokovic was old. You'd be like look what he did at age. Thirty four clearly not And i'm not saying that he's going to age that well particularly given all the injuries nisha has suffered. But i mean if he can play a stretch of three months. Consecutively healthy is there any reason to think he's not a guy who could make the quarterfinals of the us open this year..

"Two thirds of your matches at the challengers. You're probably starting to be ready to sniff. Atp qualifying get into some two fifties. Maybe win a match or two at grand slams on hardcourts. Lloyd harris has advanced past that stage. We should see him on a hardcourt. At hardcourt events have success at the hp level. Not the challenge your level the atp level the serves that good. The weapons are that big. The fitness has caught up twenty four years old number fifty in the world. It makes sense that lloyd harris again this salad on a hardcourt. He look for loyd harris here during this twenty twenty one season number sixty three in two thousand twenty one e book for him overall now lloyd harris currently number fifty one in overall elam curious what he is in terms of hardcourt yellow. you look for loyd hairs. I imagine he's got to be a little higher than you expect. Yeah he is a top thirty guy on hard and honestly it via the ratings. Honestly i think it's about right with his serve his forehand his weapons to three sets. Here i do think through five rafa finds a way to come back but two out of three sets guy is absolutely dangerous again. That serve is just gonna keep him alive in matches and then he's got the weapons that decisiveness the fluidity for his size to compete at the atp level super impressed by lloyd hairs again. No panic button. If you're on the dolphin. I thought this was washington. Dc was a step forward for him and shout out to the dc crowd who embraced rafa in a way. I have never seen a player embraced by any crowd. I mean they loved him everything the lose the house the groans after every point it was as if they didn't realize you know. Hey one point in a tense match is actually not the most significant thing particularly one point a throwaway point at two all in the first set like don't need to worry about that one.

"Bitcoin gives palestinians a powerful avenue for peaceful protest and the opportunity to find sovereignty among oppressive economic policies. One day last week. I spoke to a bitcoin user inside the gaza strip he asked to remain anonymous and go by the name of calm the arabic word for eagle as he took a large personal risk to talk to me. We spoke on telegram and had to time our call as uqaab only has a few hours of 'electricity per day for him. Our chat was in the middle of the night a palestinian friend. Help translate the call live as we spoke. It was hard to fathom what life was like on the other end of the line. Uqaab was talking to us from rafa a city in the southern part of gaza. A war zone only a few weeks removed from being heavily bombed by the israeli military. I felt like i was speaking to someone from a different planet. He spoke of roads. Destroyed buildings vaporized power cut in supplies restricted. A map of israeli missile strikes link provided makes gaza looked like swiss cheese and gives a sense of the structural damage. Cobb asked me to consider how bad things have been economically around the world even in the us because the pandemic and ensuing lockdowns and said now imagine what. Australian Open 2021: Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev Meet for the Title

"The crusade for the men's singles crown comes to an end tomorrow. And when the undisputed king of rod laver arena novak djokovic takes on russian number-one neil medvedev the world number one djokovic. Gunning for a history-making ninth championship in melbourne. While the russian authors seeking his twenty first consecutive win and first major title to preview the match. I'm joined by not edwards and commentator. Nick mcardle nick at the start of in fact two weeks before this we had you on the show podcast and you picked this matchup is that what led you to make that cole way back. Then let's say lucked out. Let's be honest that wasn't necessarily total. Total fluke made many wrong picks before but coming in you know we talk about the twenty one matches in a row for osaka. It's twenty in a row for daniil. Medvedev the non includes a win over novak djokovic close twenty twenty i think medvedev has really come into his own as someone expects himself not only to go deep. Atp events which we've seen the last couple of years but now to really do at at the grand slam so the drop laid out for him. I think he's played to each match to the level now. Can he bring an eight time. Grand slam australian open champ. Seventeen time major winner novak djokovic. Can he meet that level in a final thoughts really eighty s. What i love most is after medvedev bates itsy pass in that semi final is that he said stride away. All the pressure is on novak. He just load him up because he's plight fonsi before and never lost and it sorta. But i love how he just playfully. Put that out there and look. I think he'll come at. He'll show you'll be a little bit nervous. But i think he's just going to swing freely and that backhands i mean. Gosh they both have terrific backhands. But it's going to be like jock itch playing a twenty five year old vision of himself. It's going to be such an interesting match. I really count. Wait for the all similar. It can not just in court croff necessarily but as personalities both very eloquent and sort of personable somewhat chiming in front of the camera but they do have this white line fever as we know totally. I love those points that you've made and i think medvedeva's become more comfortable without. We sought the us open a couple years ago in the crowd. Really got against him and he used that as fuel which i think djokovic has have that in the past that in the past for sure for sure for jovic against rafa roger. He's felt that too. I really think that it is an opportunity for medvedev lake. Nona saying just swing for the fences and the scary thing is when he swings for the fences. Oftentimes the ball goes in. And i really think he's going to use that experience of beating novak in london last year at the atp finals. He'll really be geared up by that. Yeah i think so too. And i'm really looking forward to. I think the one area that novak can probably try to exploit daniels is that netplay. He's not very good. Let's let's be honest when it comes to netplay so if he can drawer him in a little bit and maybe draw that out. I think that puts pressure on daniel. Bit amid gets off to a flying start is going to be hard to stop.

Saints still mathematically alive in the hunt for NFC’s No.1 playoff seed

"Was talking about football. Take a look at that playoff picture right now in the A F. C. The Kansas City Chiefs You're number one seed. They're going to get the by followed by the Steelers, who got a huge win yesterday. I mean, huge, huge win for them. They've been playing so poorly and for the first half of that game, it was almost unwatchable. And one pass from Rafa's burger to Deante Johnson changed the entire dynamic that game and really changed the entire dynamic of the Steeler season. They're the number two seed right now. The Bills number three Titans number four dolphins at number five, and then you've got the Ravens. The Browns gotta beat the Steelers to get in. And that's coming up in our on Sunday Still in the hunt the Indianapolis Colts over the NFC the Packers game last night I love watching games at Lambeau with Snow was incredible. Packers your number one seed, followed by the state's then it's the Seahawks Washington football team, Tampa Bay. Rams bears and still on the hunt, The Cardinals, the Cowboys and the Giants. You take a look that NFC Specifically, I mean the quarterbacks that you have that air going to be going head to head. Just absolutely animal. Phenomenal. I don't think there's anybody better the NFL than Aaron Rodgers.

"Thank you so much for those lovely words. How about this every time we told with. Somebody's favorite tennis. Podcast catherine who to thaw is almost as if we've just encouraged this and frankly that's exactly someone from newfoundland n-i-l-l-a-s only finland is i'm going to try and retrain myself to announce it that's where the good dogs come from. Is it for what good about them. They are big and cuddly and fluffy and Do you remember caesar. May he rest in. Peace martino trace lovely doke He was found. Oh well yes. Now that was a splendid dog portray if the dog world say nancy. Congratulations for being from there. yes so nancy back kicked out of thank you so much into all the others that have introduced show this week. We really appreciate it and yeah. That's why we able to do this every single day of the finals. And we've got a few more to go. Today was a funny all day. We kind of previewed. It didn't we last night as much as the afternoon. Look like a much meaning to it. There was just not meaning. Those they were dead rubbers after all posted doubles and the singles and then the evening section. We always knew is going to be a knife edge type scenario you win. You guys drew you lose. You got home like a normal tournament. Let's start there showy because rough on the dow has beaten stefan pass in three sets. It wasn't like last year's when i didn't feel i thought it was. I mean i thought the dow played really. Well i've role. But i mean obviously there's no crime but last year they played a three center in and it was just epic. Wasn't it every every point felt like a a saga this. This didn't feel that that to me what to you. Know i felt like steph sits pass could have been prepared to die out there tonight and it still wouldn't have been enough He he cannot get close to the dull serve. I know there's the anomaly of the fact that he is beaten in one song clay Madrid in one thousand nine hundred. But let's just take that out of the equation and it's possible it's possible that sits has a bit of an adult problem And one that he's not getting any closer to solving think it's more than possible. I think he has a nidal problem. And i think he's a pretty big one. It's okay to have nato problem. Nidal is really really good. You know most of the world has had an adult problem for fifteen years. But he's not getting closer. It would sing and sits up past. Thinks he's got into dow problem doesn't am and he he's i it is he having seen his press conference. We'll talk about that in a minute. I think he will be going an obsessing for the next six weeks. Ah bat how to solve his dow problem matt's you you watched it what what jumped out at you from their match or yeah if i if you've got an adult problem. You've got a bit of a men's tennis problem haven't really because nadal is always going to be. There is a constant if you can't overcome the dull you're going to struggle to win the biggest tournaments i would. I would suggest certainly at the moment for the next year or two wall dolls exactly around anyway So yes short turn. That is going to be interesting to see whether sit to pass can overcome it. I think actually on one of those ones on clay. I think he's got so much more time to return the serve and he can step back and take some swings. Maybe that actually does help him against the door. But i completely agree with what you said. Catherine he just didn't didn't get near serve really for the whole match other than a fifteen minute spell which was weird and bizarre and suddenly he broke nidal twice twice in a row three times in a row. Maybe it was a very strange portion of the match. But i guess my main takeaway was kind of comparing to team the dull because that was the match we saw most recently and it felt like team has sustained threat against nadal whereas sits pass to me felt like he was relying on little moments and flashes of when his game was on and hoping that that would be enough to get him through. I didn't i didn't see a complete game plan really from him. And i think feeds into this wider thing of him being a bit confused about how to play a dollar and therefore it just always felt to me like the dole would win that match and in the end he won that third-set pretty pretty comfortably after after a shaky start

Fed Cup to be renamed Billie Jean King Cup

"The Fed Cup has been renamed the Billie Jean King Cup and there's those big plan fair announcements about this week and it's a lovely lovely thing I think it feels so so right there is I think one caveat David that you pointed out on twitter which. Which I very much agree with. How How how much does it really? Well first of all, I agree with you I think I'm ready that it's been renamed. That's The. Caveat was the if we are renaming the Fed, cut the Billie Jean King Cup. It feels even further away that we're GONNA end up having the the great mixed team competition or Fit Slam slammers I'd love it to be. A combination of the Fed Cup or the Billie Jean King Cup in Davis. Cup, that I think the sports so. Hugely needs that feels further away. But maybe maybe that's maybe that's not the case. Maybe the fact that her name is on it and she is may be involved more. We'll bring that closer together because she so much wants that is well, she's. The biggest campaign for. Men and women working together and and being on the same page and being on the same bill for goodness sake. and. Hopefully. That will come in the future I mean. There are those events just don't exist this year. So this is the news news, the renaming, and and that alone really really about just one article Chris Clare in the New York Times right timing done an interview it but a Jianqing, I really enjoy a recommended he coach Bud Collins. Once. Saying that the Fed Cup is a splendid idea with a lame name and he quotes spitting Jean King saying. When a woman does something always think we do it for women when a guy does something, they never say they did it for the guys and so one of the changes I hope I can talk about more and more is that I would like people think that we. Are Doing it for the sport not for Women's Sports and I I thought. Absolutely right. It's It's about time attitudes changed. Yeah I thought that was. A perfect summation of both what Billie? Jean King is about an also how how this could be a a way forward for kind of mixed event and and a combination of men's and women's. Competition together but I mean personally that that that's not been my vision for mixed team event I've I've not thought that it should replace. Davis carpet. Now, village Inking Cup I genuinely think that it could go along alongside them. Both I don't think you need to. Get rid of them and combine it into one I. Think you could have a mixed team event like we had with the Hoffman Cup but make bigger thing out of that, and now we've got that point in the calendar with the ATP Cup and that I think that's the point. Many Times. Cup. Turn. So. Many cups when you did all the cups said back to back, it's Oh it's cup overload kind feels to be redundant to be talking about the of the moment you. Know. What the tent tennis Kinda is anymore but I mean personally I'm just saying I think there's room the space. It would be a great thing for a mix team competition to exist alongside. The Davis Cup in now Billie Jean King Cup that we already have our cup runneth over. A. Carrillo.
