"rachel panetta" Discussed on Channel 33

"Host of the gambling show and f one has joined the nfl media group in her role. Panetta will contribute and lead legalize sports betting focused content. What a phrase on nfl network as well as the nfl's digital platforms such as nfl dot com and the nfl app. Rachel benita david briggs gambling to the. Nfl what do we think of that. Well i mean. Rachel panetta is just an an. I mean just a pure talent right. I mean everything that she does is. She's very very good at her job. and obviously is made swords betting a part of her brand scenes dirty to say it that way but a part of her Part of her brand of you know something that something that she is known for over the past several years talking about highwire axe earlier. I respect that. Nfl press release for being as artful dodging any of the sort of moral issues implicit. In this as as as it was legalized sports. Betting focused content. They just wanna make sure we're not. We're not endorsing gambling legalize sports betting that is that we're going out of our way to say that she sort of a perfect fit for what the for the nfl network because at the end of the day the number one thing is to is not to not to take on any previously prevalent moral issues about gambling about betting. They're not. They want to avoid those altogether. They hope that they never come up right. And that's i mean it's it's it's no no one's going to serve sort of say even mentioned the fact that public perception has turned or that the law has turned or anything else. We're just gonna pretend none of that other stuff ever happened. And i think that there's a lot of people who have risen to prominence over the past decade or so as voices in sports betting world. Who wouldn't be as desirable choice for the nfl network because they don't they're probably trying to avoid the sheen of gambling altogether. You know. I mean legalize sports betting it's this is almost like w calling wrestling sports entertainment's like we're just going to put our own little spent not put it put a different name on this and And and hope that nobody notices that. We're talking about the same thing. I mean rachel. Panetta is is well. I mean. I feel like we're just keep calling back. She's not a generalist per se but she can do. I mean she can do anything the fact that she is a party that she's kind of an accepted part of the sports gambling world now makes perfect fit for this job because because she will not be mistaken for whatever the cliche of somebody who's spent thirty six hours in the sports book losing money. You know or or anything. Like that. I mean. she's she's not jimmy the greek. She's not jimmy. The greek and there was an jimmy. The greek makes a lotta sense on a national broadcast when everything else is buttoned up right. But when you're the nfl especially if this isn't espn or fox making decision this is the nfl network. Who has to be the last bastion of you know opposing or or whatever i mean the last batch of goodness in the sports gambling world because if it's perceived that they're overly interested in it then that raises all of these questions about about whether or not i mean about their involvement in it right. So it's she's a proper journalists and it's good to have a journalist in that role and she's you know of she's sort of independent enough that it seems like the you know it's it's independent and she's appealing enough that it's you know this is something that you would want to see. This isn't just somebody with like a dog in the fight or a horse in the race or a you know a illegal investment in you know a horse in the race you got metaphorically closer to there. I don't think we fight dogs for money anymore. It is interesting though. Because it's almost like if you can get rachel veneta in sort of under the wire then we can just never have this conversation again if if they brought somebody if they brought jimmy. The the reincarnation. Jimmy the greek onto the nfl network people have them. There'd be a minor tizzy or maybe a major tizzy people when you know whatever but this is the death now of this whole conversation about whether or not sports betting should be allowed and whether or not the league should you know should be a ally affiliated with it or not and if you know if the nfl can hire rachel panetta and if this goes off without too much of a hubbub then i think this is the this is the end of the conversation and and you know. Thank god. Listener charlie gilmour has further evidence that oral histories are taking over the world. You know todd. Haynes david director who did far from heaven Miller pierce Fairly recently has a new documentary about the velvet underground coming out which played at khan and is going to be released released next month. I want you to listen to this description of the documentary. This is a documentary movie. Okay directed with the of. God's spirit by todd haynes this kaleidoscopic oral history combines exclusive interviews with dazzling archival footage. Now wait a second and less. I am completely misunderstanding. What is happening here. We had totally fine term for what todd haynes has made about velvet underground. The term was documentary film. Yeah or just documentary but now the oral history brand has become so ever-present so so click. You might say david you're going a documentary and oral history so that anything in which people speak.

"New huge rivalry going on that. There's going to be a lot of eyeballs on the ryder cup this year. Well it sounds like you've been in our content calls. Because i've been pushing hard for the ryder cup. Like some of my bosses are not big off guys so they look at it and they say well the ryder cup. String a big deal. And i'm saying it's going to be a huge deal at least friday and probably on the saturday and that if it's closed on the sunday as well so you know i'm in chicago. I'm about two hours and twenty minutes from whistling straights. I played there a few weeks ago. I had an amazing time. And i'll be up there wednesday to friday and like for me. This is the first. You'll be the first ryder cup. Where tons of people will be betting. I'm sure they were three years ago. In france. you know there was some there but now you're talking about half the country with access to it. So i just think like the match to mass is going to be amazing. The only tricky thing is like you know if you wanna bet on the ryder cup now. There's only one bet. It's only usa europe or a tie so it's not like you know a week you have all these options so you have to wait until you know the captains have put out their lineups and then hit hard. Yeah very true. Well i'll watch for. I'll be looking your lines. It should be a really fun to see what happens. I i love it and this weekend is going to be a ton of fun and the ryder cup coming up. it's going to be a ton of fun teddy. Great having you on man. Let's do it again soon. Right appreciate your time. Anytime matt enjoyed great one that instead of greenstein at tha greenstein senior editor points bet points bet. Usa on twitter follow them on the progressive line drivers progressive save on average seven hundred dollars per year. More on the ryder cup next year. I'm pushing the odds. This is pushing the odds on the sports map. Radio network powered by o'reilly auto parts and rocket mortgage live from las vegas. Here's map peralta. All right good stuff there with teddy greenstein from points. Bet and look. I think betting on golf. I think points is really smart to do this. I've long said in this comes to live wagering. Golf is the perfect live betting sports and the more that well. Nbc is going to buy points bed. Okay they've got an opportunity to purchase twenty five percent of the book within four years. That was their first deal that they did when they did their broadcasting arrangements. That's why points is going heavily into golf because it makes total sense. I've the golf channel. They've got a lot of the golf tournaments. All the ryder cup matches up with a broadcasting platform. having a media content wing spayed paid sporadic end. Teddy greenstein doing a lot of the content for their golf stuff and page has a monsters. I cannot believe the social media following that page. Has i mean she is. I mean my goodness. I think she's got ten million into in total for followers. She's got three million on instagram. I believe that is. I think tick talk. She's at like two million in twitter. Is like a million or something. i mean. it's just ridiculous what she has right now from being like. Sometimes you hear someone say like. I'm an influencer like she's an influencer like she's got eyeballs upon eyeballs people watching and following and paying attention and commenting. And it's just it's remarkable and it's all golf content. She has a gorgeous swing. She's an incredibly attractive woman but she is. She knows golf. She can talk golf and she's been outspoken about a variety different topics i you know about people who have said things written things about her and she's pretty quick to respond and say no. That's not actually appropriate. You can't say that you're wrong. Whatever and i appreciate that that she doesn't let it lie if someone's saying something wrong or you're writing something about her that she doesn't appreciate and cultivated incredible following and look. This is going to grow. Rachel panetta today. Being hired by the nfl network is going to be a. I mean that's a huge higher one. It's a huge higher for her fox sports over. I don't know why they dissolved in change the show. I mean it's really kind of a weird deal and they've decided to do this rotation now on that program and they they kept klay travis whatever flying and that's their point that's your angle and they let todd furman and rachel panetta go which were the two best part of that show. So it's kinda like wait. What that but. Rachel and todd is gonna do phenomenal tout taught you know. He's in my mind the goat of all this. If you wanna talk about the original in the guy who started all this sports gambling content stuff. Todd furman someone. I've i've looked up to todd for a long time. I think he's an incredible talent and really sharp guy really smart and recognized the market before anybody else which is the key sign of so many really smart people in the world that see something coming down the pike. It's okay. I'm going to do this well before anybody else and established myself and get rolling rachel. Now getting this gig with the nfl network. Though i mean she becomes the face of the nfl network for gambling. I mean are you kidding me. What a job. What an amazing awesome opportunity for her to walk into that and to have that and be a part of nfl. The nfl media appearances on nfl. Game day she'll do appearances. I'm sure on good morning football on. Nfl tillack says. I mean she's going to be the person talking about gambling on the nfl bleeping network. That job is so big. And she's in development to launch an nfl network. Podcast potentially as well that will be distributed. Which i think is really brilliant to do. I mean the more people involved in this at that level the better it is remarkable that cbs. On the same day that rachel panetta gets hired to be the face of nfl gambling for the nfl network. That cbs comes out in states. Are broadcasters are not going to talk about sports betting during the game. This is the job that i think. Everybody wants the job that everybody wants in who me sitting here in this chair. The job that so many of us are watching and wondering. When will somebody be hired to be the expert for gambling during the broadcast. So you have the play by play guy. You have the number two chair. You have the sideline reporter who was covering the game from an injury standpoint talking to the coaches and you have the rules expert that you turn to to go ahead and talk about rules so you've already added one. Share that the group that the fan the audience. They know all right. Let's go and talk to you know whoever whoever's going to be that person that x. nfl official or the x. Nfl for an office person or the x. nfl rules committee member. What's going on here and that person comes in and explains you can do the same exact thing during. Nfl broadcast with sports gambling in. That's we're sports. Gambling should live one person in that role while the game's going on to be able to say well guys. Hey you know. It's kind of interesting but as we're watching this first half wind down here the lines fifteen. The scores seventeen here comes a drive. This kick a field goal. Here that's gonna hit for the dog in that. You know that a lot of a lot of money came in on the favorite. The number opened up in the first half is thirteen. It was driven all the way up to fifteen at kickoff and now we could see here. The dog come in and cash. Most pets came in on the over. The that's really simple and then you would have somebody not only during halftime too. we're talking about the stats say. Hey jim what's going on for the second half number. Well you know. The line opened up in the game. It was minus ten but the underdog now leading here seven seventeen ten in the first half the lines totally flipped here was a fourteen point number for the chiefs and now it's baltimore minus.

"A along the right so page that. Let's do this if you win. Morikawa gets boosted. If i wouldn't speak gets boost its remember like mukalla got boosted from plus three fifty plus four hundred. I mean i hope not. A lot of people bet that because he is miles. I don't know what has happened to his game in the last several weeks. But he's fifty to one coming into this and harris. "Estimate today. Pictures are out from what we will see for the new caesar sportsbook at chase field for the arizona diamondbacks in. Oh my goodness look when states have gone legal. We've seen sports books that looked like glorified hole in the wall sports bars that is not what caesar's is going to build at chase field. It looks gorgeous and man. I can't wait to see what some of these companies do when it comes to point of sale books. Meaning you go to a game and it becomes kind of like a sports betting lounge and you have a book and you've got bookmakers there and you have oddsmakers and you've got a big screen. Tv's and your menu like a sports bar but it's a book and when it's at the game itself the ability to go you're going to be able to sell tickets to get into it. You're gonna be able to sell reservations and it's going to be remarkable because teams are competitive right so we saw what wrigley villes gonna look like. We've seen what some of these other teams are proposing the specs for what we're going to see in dc. It's like okay. They look all right. No caesar's is upping the ante here with their very impressive now. Specs shots will see when it's done from sportsbook perspective. You can see it at pushing the odds on twitter just re tweeted the pictures from chase field as to what this is gonna look like but our guy dave sheriff and makes a very good point about well. The one constant throughout the years ray has been baseball. The clode from field of dreams which is like wait. What but it's true right. There's a sportsbook at a baseball stadium. Shoeless joe jackson band for the game. Pete rose banned from the game. Sports books exists now at a baseball stadium. And it's coming to a baseball stadium near you. We live in a wild time and we live in a wild really really cool time. Wanna say quick thing because this guy has been really good to us over. The years lands pug meyer. Today was his last day at the athletic and for a guy who is one of the best to boxing writers. In the game we've had lance on a ton. I really hope he lands a job quickly. He's really good job. He's really tapped in and look that stinks. Mike copier left and landed on his feet at. Espn i hope. Espn or somebody likes. That will grab onto lens pug meyer. Because he's just a great combat sports writer. And i don't know what's going on at the athletic but man that stinks. There's been some really big named guys who have walked from the athletic or been. Let go from the athletic over the last couple of weeks. That stinks so my thoughts goes out to land pug meyer but on the complete opposite end. Congratulations to rachel panetta. Who just became the first. Nfl official sports betting content creator an expert in history. Yes the nfl. Now has an official sports betting content creator and rachel leaves fox sports one. The program that she was hosting there is no longer in existence really. She's doing a bunch of cool things including sitcom idea about her life. I guess that she helped to coal right that. That's going to be getting pilot but the nfl has hired rachel banana to nfl media to be a part of their sports betting digital platforms nfl dot com on the application and whatnot. So congratulations to her. That is an awesome deal that the nfl one nfl game day morning. She's going to be doing a ton of sports gambling content for nfl nfl network and dot com sports betting legalize sports betting focused. Content is how they're describing it with rachel. Banana congratulations to her. She's tremendous. We've never had her on poison the odds. That's definitely something. We've tried to of cross off a bucket list. Could i think she's tremendous. She's a great follow on twitter. She's witty she's really quick. He knows her stuff. That's i mean that's nothing but exciting news to see the nfl. Hire somebody like rachel to be a sports betting. You know these face essentially. Nfl sports betting for nfl media really really cool stuff from there are four big stories. We started off with the hard for. It's time for the hard four on pushing the odds with perol all right. We're going to get into this a lot today. The status of players in the nfl who have been vaccinated or not vaccinated is a major topic. Apricots were made yesterday to the fifty three man roster and the jacksonville jaguars head coach urban. Meyer announced the players. Not taking the shots factored in to the decision to keep or cut more on this later on in the opening line but urban meyer says the quiet part out loud creating a firestorm with this comment. You can't give specifics. But could you share with us. Whether a vaccinated versus unvaccinated player had an impact on a roster decision. It's everyone was considered That was part of the production. What's his you know. Let's start talking about this and then also vaccinate or not. can i say that. That was a decision maker. Was certainly inconsideration cam. Newton comes to mind more on that in the opening. line number. Two the new orleans saints now catching four points from the packers. Do teams are gonna play in jacksonville. Not at eighteen stadium in dallas. Sean payton yesterday was pressed for the media as to what's going on but it sounds like it's going to be a long time before the saints are back in new orleans. We're starting with the idea that let's say it's a month. Let's say it's it's i think it's much easier. Reel it back in. But what would that mean that would mean prepping for green bay week one prepping for carolina week to prepping for new england week three and then prep mentor. What is the home game against the child's fourth game. So i i think we're looking at all right just The the first quarter of the season the first four weeks Knowing that we can we can always adjust if need be number three the tour championship and the ryder cup start later on this month for championship this week. Pga tour made the announcement yesterday. That shocks some people. If you're going to go to the course with the plans on heckling bryson deja yambio. You can do that but you just can't call him cooksey you know the barometer that we we we are all using is the word respect and to me when you hear brooks yelled or you hear. Any expression yelled question. Is that respectful or disrespectful. That has been going on for an extended period of time to me at this point. It's disrespectful and that's the kind of behavior that we're not gonna tolerate going forward. Jay monon the pg. We'll continue greenstein from points. Better bit about that story coming up later on the program fourth and finally college football on the telly tonight. Uab play in jacksonville state. Espn's got it. "Are just like woo being exposed to how mad people get about the smallest things that don't affect them as like. Oh let's all people who. Oh yeah well. Speaking of people who just joined twitter and who are just now figuring out. What twitter is all about jay cutler just made a twitter for the very first time at like three days ago and has been tweeting like. How does this thing work. There's so many ends these like. Wow people are mad here. Yes welcomed twin. everybody needs an outlet. You need somewhere to put the thing. You're mad at. But like i dunno. Just consider if the outlet that you use is a public forum. I don't know that that There are a healthier outlets than getting real whipped into a frenzy. About what the host of a show us what our role is supposed to and your thoughts on that. But maybe just. I don't know ask yourself why your thoughts are so passionate genuinely it. I'm not saying that it's be nice that you're gonna find out that you have a problem with women but just ask yourself. Why am i so mad about this and you might you know. Learn something that could help bring you closer to balance instead of that bit should shudder dumb mouth. Because i don't think you know her and you can dislike. The clipper like the clip. But i don't think it should be getting you that mad in new font nonetheless twitter new font. I don't like it really. Yeah it's subtle enough troops. I don't think you would notice now. Yep immediate let's when instantly then he's just like what do you want me to do lady. That's a lie. It's like i don't know i have a question though. Considering that i do not get tweet. Sent to me about women in sports stuff. How many tweets shocker. How many tweets do you think estimates. Estimating you got off of just the jenny taff from just dumb people like in the in the dozens hundreds. I'm just curious. Why are you asking it like. I'm just wondering like how many deliberate you keep saying. Just curious which i'm like what's up so i'm just curious but i'm just like i'm not a cop. I'm not a cop know. I'm asking the questions at cop would ask but i'm asking undercover. I'm also asking. I know i'd say i'd say forty. I was just curious. Of how many dumb tweets you minus twenty as usual it depends icon. Like when i say. I think it became a moment i can. You can just kind of tell when you scroll through your twitter. As much as i do for as long as i have. It's a sad thing. But i've picked up on like oh. My tweet was posted somewhere or like. Oh somebody amplified this. That is outside of my usual. I'm like these aren't my followers that are responding to me. These people dislike me or you get a lot of like who are you. And you're like i don't if you don't know me that's okay. Don't respond to my tweet. I'm not out here being like you have to know who i am. I'm just. I'm also here posting my thoughts. I'm just not his whole larionov is like why if i don't know who someone is. I would never tweet at them. It's people i use twitter as google. I always. I'm like there's another website. Just one tab away that you could ask this of and get your answer and it doesn't require me to tell you why i googled it you google it or when somebody responds to your joke and says i don't get it and you're like okay but but look at all the people around you that do so i don't what do you do that. Made me think of when people on twitter like ask a question where easily and just asking what time is the game of work. And i find it like google. It just look at me ask jeeves like where do i find the usa basketball game. And i'm like. I don't know good question sometimes these websites because now it's like everybody has their own streaming service. Do make it difficult to find out where and when you can actually watch a game. It is getting more complicated. I'll give people that. And there've been times where i tweet random questions that i'm just like handy this real quick and it's more like a crowd source thing but it is i just when people respond to things with like. What is this what happened with like okay. Exactly this story. I'm telling. I saw rachel panetta tweet about jenny. Taft and i found out what happened. People responded to my tweet about jenny. Taft instead what happened whereas the context and it's like just us twitter the search bar and find out about it. And then if you do that and you can't find anything then you can ask me but what if you just click on the magnifying glass and you type. Jenny daft. So this was bitching about twitter there. You go Is that podcast. I was oh. I was opening my bookmarks. Because i feel like i bookmarked something. This week that i was like. Oh we can. I can ask that of travis. Is it not real one hundred percent not real as it like from the team. But they're joking. Who where did it come from where it came from. The ad said it's not happening. This is the best this might turn around on No we're good. This is lincoln nebraska different state from norman oklahoma. Norman homa see keep doing that. I know you mess it up early. And i just kind of let it go as we. We're back where we started. But i think listen you're nebraska. People aren't exactly tuning in to watch football top-five differences between nebraska and oklahoma. Go one plays in the big ten one as in Oklahoma you're talking about the school in the state to state. So i mean number one. They're two separate state. I'm saying that's that was the question. What is the difference between the states. One is big fans of corn. Okay and the other is big fan of Not corn got up one touches texas. The other one doesn't okay. That's a good that is an actual answer all right Okay and it's oklahoma right touches texas to clear. Yep so this is just proven a point so you can get back to what you're saying. I just think that they should do it. Like no one cares about your program do something. No one cares little harsh. I agree they should do it. It was just that it was that end. arrow dynamic college logos. But that's a huge waste of time because an audio medium. So i don't think it'd be worthwhile. "Joining us. Now is Denise Shaw Performance Strategy and Decision Advisor. Ceo of the rethink group helping and Guiding Professional Athletes Traders Broadway directors chief investment officers by optimizing the psychological side of risk. She's also the inspiration to the character of Wendy Roads. The performance coach on Showtime's Drama Billions and the author of the book market. Mind Gains Denise. Thank you so much for joining us. Thank you for having me Louise. This is going to be a really interesting conversation. I feel let's begin. Let's tell her audience a little bit about your impressive work and what you do. What exactly is a performance strategy and decision advisor so it started out as performance coaching with traders. Meaning helping them do their best job helping them. Make the best trades but as time went on I found myself over and over and over again working with chief investment officers or CEO's in trading firms dealing with their strategy decisions in their business decisions so I realized it had become more. Well it'd become as much about the executive decision has had become about the individual's performance under pressure. So I tried to encapsulate that in what we call me an unusual role so it's hard to come up with a good title in. May Be an unusual role. But it's a very important one. Especially when it comes to thinking about high-performance how does your work relate with professional athletes? Well the core of what we do is around a neuro science our brain science which how the brain really makes a decision which is different than how we've all been taught like basically you have to have emotion to make a decision which is certainly different than people think in the trading world in the sports world. It's been about like control what you can control. Think positively but sports by definition is full of frustration and disappointment. I mean you know you're GONNA lose right. Guess someone's GonNa win helping athletes deal with the whole spectrum of the emotions. They're going to have their desire to win their frustration when they don't their frustration when they make a mistake giving them lots more understanding I but strategies and tactics to navigate all those feelings so they don't turn in the slums mental blocks so the other component to that are the decision makers in sports. Your Jonah your coaches. How does that apply in terms of your work? What I realized was that the decisions coaches in GM's particularly in the NFL make. Because I happen to be a football fan. But obviously it's true in any sport is a lot like the decisions that hedge fund managers make. I mean a guy that runs a hedge fund is buying different stocks or different currencies or bonds and like trying to create a mix that will ultimately create a result. They've got data about each asset. But they don't really know how it's going to behave in the future so it's kind of similar to picking Players For that Matter Picking Coaching Staff. So there's this risk reward aspect that concept goes on and hedge funds. I realized is the same kind of decision scenario that a GM or coaches faced with the GM and a draft and coach and a game. Really like which player which play. Are we going to use now? And how is that going to play itself out over what I expect to happen? We figured we could take that same. Sort of risk reward thinking that we do and work with and hedge funds and help The managers if you will in professional sports executives on the professional sport time so it sounds to me that there's a theme here where the in many ways the best possible way to prepare is to continuously do dress rehearsals right. Just completely be aware of every single possible scenario. Would you say that that's one angle to look at it? It's definitely went and got to look at it. I will tell you though that people have a tendency to do the like logical or factual piece of that without doing the feeling piece of it. So like if you liken it to athletes visualizing their their performance you know. Some of them tend to go through. Okay I'm going to do this and then I'm going to do that when I work with them. I try to get them to focus on. It's GonNa feel like this and then it's going to feel like that and you know then something's going to go wrong so that they've walked through the the you know the interruptions that happen in anything right in advance and if you do it on that feeling level as opposed to just using your intellect it's way more effective right. The overall need to connect emotionally will ultimately. Help you direct yourself through through whatever it is. Let's Talk. I mean you know that's very important for what's happening right now. Join Epidemic the sports community going through major changes. We talk a lot about the physical when it comes to athletes. But I don't know not enough about the emotional as you just said how psychologically speaking is the pandemic effecting ask athletes as their seasons traveling their daily lives are impacted. Yeah I've had occasion to talk to quite a few of them and one thing they all say as it comes in waves on some days. They're fine and they're optimistic and you know they're just GonNa you know it's going to work itself out and another day is they're more frustrated and maybe depressed but a number of them have seen that it sort of comes and goes I mean. Of course you're like an Olympic athlete. I mean there's just no way around the phase of some intense disappointment and frustration. I have won Olympic athlete. Who finally qualified in three tries? And it's like oh my gosh. Now I have to wait another year. I mean they will still qualify can count but they're so often taught control. Focus on what you can control in for all of us. Were out of control here right. We're just waiting to see how this thing unfolds. And if that's anxiety producing what I try to teach people is just like accept it recognize what the feeling is? Call it what it is. And there's this weird magic that when you just name feeling for what it is. It tends to to contract or dissipate and become less disruptive. Ironically we'll return after these short messages sports and scandals. What more could you ask for every week on? Hall of Shame. "The complications for an athlete during the pandemic go far and wide. But what happens when you're an American athlete and spend most of your time on international ground? What happens when your career. Which took you anywhere from Italy to France? Australia or Spain is suddenly interrupted due to cove in nineteen the issues go beyond playing your respective sport such visas living arrangements and even your own future come into place. It's a tremendous burden than mounts up on any athlete making it that much harder for families and even teammates as they can't physically even be together joining us now is producer writer culture reporter for sports illustrated. Preeti cy who rode a grade very viable peace. On American athletes plan abroad pre. Thanks so much for joining us. Thank you for having me Preah. Let's get straight to it at the very beginning of this. I believe whilst you were writing this piece and interviewing athletes you constantly had to change the story as dependent make and the effects of it was changing everyday. Why don't you walk us through at the very beginning? How everything was developing when you were writing the story. Yeah I reached out to about ten to twelve Athletes were playing abroad for a mother was WNBA player who plays overseas for a couple of months euro player. Who's there all the time and initially it was? Let's see how it is on your side of the world. It moved day by day. They were eight nine hours ahead of me for the most part said caller on five. Am and I would get arranger responses which is oh our borders shut just shut down or my wife is pregnant and I have to get our home. I don't want to risk being millicom back to the states or back to France. The different areas that everyone was going and you could also hear their home change in their in their voice which was super interesting. It was the first day was a cast is crazy. Right where social distancing and. We're not working out of the gym to. Hey we can't leave our town without a signed note from the government and that's like two three days inches like boom boom boom so what started off as more of. Let's take look around. The world became more of hate. This pandemic is just moving so quickly and people need to start making some really difficult choices in a standard twelve hours so one particular story that I was very interested in. Obviously they were all very effective but one of them was a player oversee playing in Italy. Who was dealing with the balance of well if I leave. It also has implications regarding my contract. What other financial implications of athletes were stranded in a foreign country and have to play this sort of catch? Twenty two game of staying or going from what I gathered. It's not a League decision. It's becoming of a team decision so for the player. Let's say in Italy if he laughed at I gotta say none of them were dealing with any teams that were not being understanding of American player. Who wants to go home? His biggest thing was like if I go home and the states said I can't come back. Mike Contract is forfeited. There's nothing that I can do about that. Italy's open everything they start playing again and he stuck here in. That's F. like his contract's void he doesn't get paid. What about the disconnection from families? How are athletes? You've talked to a dealing with the separation in this specific moment. A lot of will get information through me savings like I'm going back to the states have any toilet paper and I was like kind of sort of but not really. Let me walk you through this. Because they also didn't WanNa look worry their own family back home it's such a disconnection can only do so much face time so a lot of the plane that Balancing active what's going on in the states. What's actually going on on what they're seeing on social media versus the reality of their family whatever town therein to that point has there been any hesitancy of athletes coming back to the. Us versus staying hurt because much of the conversation is about athletes. You know thinking that they all want to return to the US. But Som- are might be thinking I think that's a that's a worse option. Has there been any of that narrative every single player I spoke to it was very interesting again. It's what they're seeing on social media and the news versus what their specific family situation is they just felt. There is a little bit war organization and Response to the pandemic. And that's a lot has to do with right lake. They have been dealing with this in Europe longer than so widely like a country that has been dealing with this for two three weeks longer than the state's most of them said I feel like I'm taking a step back by going back to America. But then they have to decide whether or not they're willing to risk not being able to come back to see their family for one. Two three months and professionally. Could this be career ending for some people? Yeah that's a good question. There's just so many we don't know right. I think that's our I feel like that's a theme. Are All living every single one of US around the world. We don't know how long this is. GonNa last like are the smaller leagues in Lithuania or Turkey. Are they going to be able to handle loss of income? A lot of these players most of these players minus one or two big names. They're not going back to the NBA. There love the game of basketball and they wanted to spend their twenties and thirties overseas making as much money as possible for their family until they move onto the next stage of their life. So not only are doing with not training not treating with a trainer. A new idea in the League is again. But then you start having to compete with a whole new batch of college athletes that are graduating and not getting drafted who are now coming overseas to take their spot. The biggest theme are issue. I guess that most take when it comes to talking about sports in Corona Virus Is So it's always so about the US athlete in the US. But what are the lessons learned in? How athletes abroad are experiencing the virus that can be related to an American audience to be worried. The the one was super casual about it like we had to do with his colleagues were fine. It was why. Why isn't the US doing what we're doing out? Even start with just Nigel Hayes in Lithuania. You said the borders were shut down immediately. Like I'm safer here. Why not? Why not seeing that overseas or for the player in Italy? He was just so upset. Seeing stories about Spring breakers in Florida. His parents live in Florida. There are older and he's like what is going on. Like how much do we have to forewarn you guys that this is real interest? Because you don't see yet immediately it's GonNa it's common for you. Which was like it was weird for me having to talk to these guys on a day-to-day basis getting panic myself. So I think there's they feel like they were screaming into the wind and then I tried to turn around and scream into the web here. I don't know if it worked. Well we'll see how much it worked in. That sense of. Urgency surely is something that everybody needs to know. Precisely sports illustrated writer producer. Thank you so much for joining us. Thank you. We'll return after these short messages. Sports and scandals. What more could you ask for every week on? Hall of Shame. "You know like that. They feel like meetings are efficient now. I talked to Matt Rule. The coach of the panthers about this last week. And you know. The Point. He made was is a new coach like when he goes out to get coffee when he leaves office. Get coffee get stopped by five different people who WANNA talk to eliminating. That has made him a little bit more efficient being able to do as work this time of year. Y- teams. I think are getting their coaches involved in coaches or getting through their tape quicker. Dan Quinn told me two weeks ago. That his coaches were already through all the tape which was way earlier than they normally would be and so there have been some benefits here. I think there are some things that teams are going to look at and they may adopt saying these things have made us more efficient. The flip side of it is I think you do lose some of the human interaction but having prospects in your building going out and getting to meet with them. It's not quite the same over the zoom or the team's meetings as it would be in the past you know and then I think there's also the element of sitting around in the room and watching tape and why looky your drop ward and you know going through arguments this guy over that guy you guys can sit around a room throwing the tape and say okay like let's go through it so a little bit more difficult to do those sorts of things but in certain ways that I I think teams have found that. It's actually a little bit more efficient the way they're doing it now. How is this being broadcasted? I mean we know that the NFL ON ESPN obviously have direct relationship. But also outside of that how our media outlets including our own going to work around this. We're actually worries. I wish I had made an announcement for us. But we're actually still working to ourselves and trying to figure out the best way to use the the live video capabilities that we now have my first three years at SL anchor to show from New York. Obviously that's not gonNA happen this year. So we're GONNA have to get creative with it. We've talked about different ways of doing it. Where maybe we have people lined up so in this guy gets picked me. We bring this guy when this guy gets picked bring in that guy. There may be possibilities that we can do things that we weren't able to do previously similar the way teams have found. Some things have been a little more efficient doing it this way So that's us as for the draft broadcast itself is obviously a little different because normally we'd have to networks broadcasting at at least and so you know instead of NFL network ESPN having separate broadcast. They're now doing their broadcast together. It's we're not gonNA have the crowd It'll be interesting. I think you know knowing a little bit about that world and having walked worked in TV for fifteen years. I you know when they go through some rehearsals and stuff. There's probably going to be a little bit. I guess some creative license taken where I would think. At least I don't have inside information on this and talk to those guys yet but I would think that there's going to be a little bit of trial and error involved in that because like every like with so many other things in the world right now. We're all in uncharted territory. Absolutely unprecedented times. Finally Albert last question. How are you doing during all this house? Your reporting going. How are you preparing to report on the night but also personally? How have you managed to juggle all these bowls during this pandemic? Well everybody who follows me on twitter at Albert Breer Just in case. You're wondering the tree is off the power lines. The power is back in my house. The Cable and Internet are working and I appreciate all those things a lot more than I did. Forty eight hours ago You know it's been interesting Lewis. I one of my favorite times of year. I mean I I really feel like for the people I cover. I'm able to give back to them. A little bit of this information trade that goes on and that's always one of my favorite things to do you know is kind of and look. There's like a little bit of like an eighth grade lunchroom kind of dynamic to it that your trading rumors back and forth. But it's it's a fun part of this year. I do feel like I can kind of offer something teams. I'm so I was a little worried that there would be as much of that as there has been in the past but I I've found over the last couple of weeks that still exists out there and Yeah I am still able to do some of it. We'll see how it goes because things normally you know he'd up the last five six days before the draft and You know we'll see how that goes as we get closer to the draft But so far. I've been a little surprised that it's you know sort of business as usual as much as poss as much as it would be for me. I mean I I I probably would have gone to ten. Tons of low is pro day in Alabama on April. Nice things like that. Come off your calendar but for the most part feels like I'm covering the NFL draft. Which is exactly what I'm doing as I senior writer. Content strategists ammon. Qb sports illustrated were glad that he has internet. Let's hope you have to go to a starbucks anytime soon Albert. "Has this one is really pushing a boulder up a hill by yourself. And I don't think it's going to get it over the hump. And even if they come out with a fantastic trailer people are still going to be like, but all those other ones. I don't know. I don't know. I think it will depend on reviews, and it'll penned on reactions to honest reactions to it to see what the box office is going to be for this. But I agree with you. This point you bring up dropping both in the same year. It's Kim Star Wars and who's this under Disney you want to Star Wars moves year to to live action additions. It's dangerous funny. You bring that up because this movie is hitting right around the time that solo dead, and whether or not the movie is good. It's just a very competitive time of year looking at this particular date, we have Aladdin going up against book, smart, bright, burn and Minecraft and Minecraft is a very hot property that should that movie. Turn out to be great. Maybe that'll take away some attention from this. But then on top of that it's being bookended by gigantic properties. That could either. Other take away some of the buzz leading into its release and then stuff dead in its tracks. So this one's got its work cut out for them. And I think the only benefit that is going to come from. This trailer is the viral effect of inserting Will Smith is the genie into other culture things. Can I say one last thing what may save this? If there's any way to say this at this point is to give a scenes with jasmine, and what's his name again. The the kid of Christ. Because it gets being smart. Give them a nickname going for his real name. Masud scenes with Aladdin and jasmine, and those Radi chemistry and love and you feel because jazz look fantastic and the trailer. That's what the end the prince Ali number that you can see from from above looks fantastic. So if they find a way to release the trailer, and it's that that sells people I think that will go along and get people back in the camp. I also think they haven't really fully tapped into the appeal of the music yet, which is a huge emotional trigger a lot of people. And it seems like a weird call from a marketing perspective, it's funny because I think that The Lion King did that so well, so why not just take a cue from that? I don't know. It's it's a fascinating situation happening here. And I'm really curious if it does bomb out like you think it will what that means for the future of Disney's live action lineup because as of right now, they are like full-throttle. This is the future of Disney's live action wing. We are all in on these remakes. I mean, if you go on collider dot com, we have a list of all the ones that are in development. And it's saying. I think the only reason I might be happy. If Aladdin doesn't do. Well, and it it puts a little bit of a stop or slight break to the Disney live action at obtain craze. The only reason it would be slightly. You know what I was filing? Have you seen that terrible nightmare before Christmas? Rumor that's swirling around out there. I hope that's a big pile of of nonsense. And it's not true. I I don't know what that is. There's reports claiming that either they're going to do a straight sequel, which I think is Darrel idea or they're going to go the live action route which yet my especially after seeing this my brain cannot process that whatsoever. Quick look Pete's dragon is a really well done movie that nobody went to right, right beauty, the beach people like mid lot of money. There were some issues with that people had some issues with that juggle books. One is mostly been universally beloved, but critics and fans alike if Dumbo and Aladdin both disappoint and only Joe blanking. It comes out of this of the three coming up. We've got ourselves a solo last jet. I episode nine hopefully saves the thing kind of situation. We'll see are the record. I believe Dumbo from a quality perspective. I m a little concerned about making, you know, big budget blockbuster type numbers. But I think it looks pretty good. So far looks pretty good. And I one thing I guess Tim Burton has pointed me a few times. In the last years what I do want to say about the nightmare before Christmas thing. And I I think that maybe what happens with Dumbo and Aladdin may predict the path that they take, but they are taking a path with that. I said this to you earlier there's too much money in that title. It's one of their biggest titles for selling merchandise. Eventually something will happen whether this particular rumor is right right now. And those are the things that are weighing something eventually has to drop its Doug Jones. Would you then be back? Just say good fit. Really good fits what you just completely change. How I felt about abilities here. I'm just saying. Oh, yeah. Major pas way. You right. And it's doing on on discovery is him to this. I am very open to that idea. So we'll we'll table that. And we're going to put that my back hot. We inevitably have to bring that story back before we jump into story. Number three for the day. I have to remind you that we have so much cool programming on collider all across all of our platforms. For instance, there might have been alive episode of for your consideration today where we covered things like the BAFTA 's and all of the nonsense that's happening with the award ceremony, and how that might pan out for the academy, and the broadcast then there's also millennial must watch and this time during is reviewing silence of the lambs with brings me more joy than you could ever imagine. You can catch that on collider quick. And also on all of our social media channels. I think that's there's nothing else that great collider to nothing at all way too. Mr John Rocca hosts Weider sports time, and he crushes it every time he host that show. Sirocco? What did you guys talk to Adam caporal on this morning guys? The complex sports senior editor we talked the MBA trade deadline. The winners and losers losers me met nosed Adam Caporale there on the cloud of sports channel on YouTube and on the podcast jeno's. Well, don't forget we had Rachel Veneta, Fox Sports. Rachel Panetta on Friday as well. So going check out that interview to all righty. We're moving on to our next story. And it's yet another big one right now, we're talking about new reports that one brothers is in the process of developing not necessarily aquaman to. But rather an opponent's spin off called the trench, and it is said to be a horror tinged spin off that would delve into the title territory that shares its name with the creatures that inhabit this idea really really Piques my interest. I know I was not the biggest fan of men, but I do greatly admire certain things in it. Especially certain ideas, that I thought did raise some some interesting little tidbits that really caught my eye, and it's probably no surprise at one of my favorite parts of that movie was when we got a taste of the trench. It was so visually stunning. And a really spoke to James wan style for me. But I don't get the sense that he would necessarily direct this. But before we delve into that Roca, your stuff just hearing this announcement today was it a surprise to you that they were going with the trench verses aquaman to a bit of a surprise. But if you look at the man of steel thing same thing happened, right? They didn't do immediately. Do a man is still sequel. We're still waiting on that one. We didn't get a wonder woman sequel, but that's a whole situation there. But with this I was surprised when row by but saying that I'm with Perry. This was the best part of the movie for me the trench because I saw James one do what he does best in this area of the movie third. Really enjoyed it. And this idea of them doing a horror with the trench. And what these what these creatures were former what former Atlanta is what what they become one of the kingdom's kingdoms. What they become that excites. Me on so many levels. Will we get like a Ghalem situation where we see how he started out to how he became gallon. Like, we did in return of the king that it'd be fun to see. So to me that excites me overall to see how the trench became the trench. And what what what that leads to? So yes, this does excite me. It's not too shocking that immediately go to aquaman, sequel brilliant, creative idea, I think at least here, but After Auckland performed so so well at the box office is this a smart move to go this direction, especially considering this movie is not expected to star Jason momoa that doesn't necessarily mean he can't appear in some capacity, but Haley is this kind of boxoffice doom and gloom for something. That's so high in hot right now. I don't think. So. No, I think this is very smart. I think that all straight out of my ass directly to you. I don't know anything like I think that we might see something more of a lower budget for something like this. I think that we'll probably see them reach into their stable of new line horror people to help out with something like this. And I think that what we might see in what this might be a
