"I'm Mark Lewis. It's been more than 50 years since girls started embracing the book that author Judy Blume had written for her daughter. And now the novel about a young girl confronting numerous anxieties about growing up has become a movie. We found this great house where's the best house? Well, that's the thing. We got really lucky. New Jersey. You're Jersey? Sorry. I'm sorry. Are you there God? It's me, Margaret is coming to theaters this weekend. Earlier, I spoke with vulture critic Jen chaney about it. This book is so special to so many women and girls. Myself included. And I'm just so happy that after waiting for more than 50 years to see it become a movie that it's such a good movie. Just a really faithful adaptation of Judy Blume's work. But it flushes certain things out a little bit more, like Rachel McAdams who plays Margaret's mother. You really get more of a sense of her as a character and sort of the parallels that she's dealing with, even as a grown-up to what Margaret is dealing with as a young girl growing up. Abby Ryder fortson, who plays Margaret, she was ant man's daughter in the first two ant man movies. What a wonderful performance she gives. It's just a lovely, lovely movie, and I hope a lot of people go to see it. Oh, that's great. So many things have changed since this book was introduced, yet so many things that kids experience remain the same. Does this 70s tale on the screen, work for today's audience as the way it did in print for so many folks over the years? You know, I think it does, and I think it's still very relevant. There are places in this country where they would want to ban, are you there, God, it's me, Margaret, still. But it's a very honest portrait of a girl going through puberty and getting her period and all the anxieties around that. But also a lot of it is about her questioning her religious identity. And I think the movie, which was directed by Kelly Freeman Craig, handles all of that with great sensitivity and anyone can relate to it. All right, staying with the category, books from the 70s on Apple TV. There's an animated series based on the children's books, frog and toad. Does this stay true to the characters that many folks remember from their childhood? You know, this is a great week for people who remember these books from the 70s. Because this is another really sweet adaptation. The frog and toad books are really beloved for good reason. And Arnold Labelle wrote them years and years ago, but they've taken a lot of the stories from the books, and they've adapted them in a really faithful way. The animation is a little more bright than the books were, but it's still very true to the illustrations. They've added some new characters here and there, but this is just a very sweet show, especially for parents looking for something to watch with very young children. It's sometimes hard to find. And this is a great choice for that. On Skype, that's vulture critic Jen chaney

"Enhancements over the last couple of months, but there isn't going to be any near term sales growth because of that. Got it. Meta, of course, another big one, we've seen massive job cuts there, talks about more. What is this earnings look like for? I mean, unsurprisingly profit under pressure in a big way, we're like you see revenue is actually only down about 1%, but it really is the profitability. This is why Mark Zuckerberg talks time and time again about the focus on efficiency for this year. You're going to see perhaps a bit of a dragon engagement on the old blue Facebook, but there's going to be an uptick perhaps in the way you and I are interacting with reels with WhatsApp with messaging ads. But they have been hampered by the fact that Apple doesn't want to build in and of course the way in which we track our data. So that's overall been a bit of a headwind. We're likely to see challenges once again a second round of layoffs at least they're going to help with their expenditures to a certain degree. Got it. Snap also, the owner of SnapChat reporting, and we talked briefly about the before how they've embraced AI and the chat bot. And how is it looking for them? They have suffered kind of an also ran as well. Yeah, oh boy, that share price has suffered its languished at about ten for what the last end of 2022, really. We started to see snap, I think, last year, become the canary in the coal mine. They come out with their ownings first, and they then set the tone for how the rest of the advertising market was going to really look. And snaps growth expectations have come down sharply in the first half of the year, 6% likely drop in top line overall revision, the company. We're likely to see a 20% cut in fixed costs again. This is more about how they can preserve profitability rather than drive it. So this is again being cautious as we likely see advertisers be cautious with their budgets. Remember, if you're thinking about, oh, where shall I put my advertising dollars to work? You're probably gonna stick with Facebook's Instagram. You might be sticking with Google's YouTube. You might cut back on a snap because it is a bit of an also ran, as you say, although they are always a creative way to perhaps get some bang for your buck with the AI focus. Intel also reporting. This is hardware. The chip maker, their fresh concerns about chip makers now, Washington sanctions, hamstringing China's ambitions there. What do you see for Intel though? And we're back to boom and bust. They all told us in COVID and in the post pandemic era that we were gone out of boom bust cycles for chips because we were all moving to automated devices, the fact that we're going to have every connected device, Internet of Things, industry would be changed. And it doesn't happen that quickly. It would seem, and so for Intel, I like to see actually a 40% sales drop. We're likely to see, of course, again, the PC slowdown that's affecting Microsoft is going to impact Intel as well. Slumping consumer demand means, look, they're not going to have as many chips in the devices that we're buying. So we know the headwinds are there for PC. We know that actually they're losing some market share in terms of data centers as well AMD led by females executives just been doing phenomenal work there at catching some market. And this is a market that we want to hear from the CEO pat gelsinger has been very upfront with the challenges he faces his entire sector faces and remember they are trying to build a mute more resilient global supply chain at the moment. We have to invest in future fabs here in America and in Europe and that's more expensive. We're still trying to see where they end up. Caroline, thank you so much. "To this. So in the early stretches of the MCU, we got exposed to a lot of different dimensions. Think of the mirror dimension from Doctor Strange. The quantum realm is a dimension. Do you believe that time is a dimension? I heard your discussion. No, but where are you on this? You're telling me about dimensions. Googling and seeing if I put it away. Let me put it this way. It's time a dimension in the MCU. Yes. Would you mind if I just interrupted this conversation briefly? I'd like to make a statement. This is the culmination of my career. Somehow managed at this extraordinary technological company that we were talking about to get two of my closest friends and colleagues into a room together to talk earnestly about the scientific implications of what Jack Kirby and Stanley cooked up when they were smoked out on grass in 1972. We're having a blast. The culmination of my career was when you sang Pinocchio to Amanda. And I got to listen to it while stuck in traffic on the one O one. I was thinking of taking up a full-time singing career. I think you should. But it's important from Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. We would support you in any timeline or universe or dimension, which is all of them. So when we talk about the multiverse, we're talking about different universes. There are some helpful visuals, right? So think of earth 6 one 6, the primary earth. You know, when Doctor Strange, they go to a different earth. It's a different side of Doctor Strange. Okay, well, remember when I was so excited that Rachel McAdams was in the stinger for the next one, and I was like, oh, Rachel. I love her. Well, take the MCU out of it right here right now. This is earth one. We're recording this podcast. This is our 6 foot 6. Let's just call it earth one to simplify it for the purposes of this conversation. We're on earth one right here. This pod. This is the MCU she has. She's hanging on every word and I love it. There's an earth to somewhere else where three months centric. How do we not know if there aren't many other, well, okay, go ahead. Well, glad you're anticipating what you're going to say. Timelines, there's also the timeline aspect. So Loki is very much about timelines. And the idea of the sacred timeline, which is what he remains, one of the Nathaniel Richards, Kang variants, has created the TVA to preserve and protect. I have to be honest, the sacred timeline we're starting to get into some Amanda. We blew up the sacred timeline in the Loki finale. Okay, good. And it's split. It fractured. Now, we have the possibility of multiversal war again, okay? But he who remains what have you think that's a bad thing? I would have you think it's a good thing because it means that there are versions of us everywhere and they have free will. Who is Loki and Loki? He is a variant who caused a nexus event, meaning he branched off. He did a thing that he wasn't supposed to do in the sacred timeline and he created a new branch. The TVA would prune those branches to preserve the sacred timeline, which means, in essence, they would eliminate all of those different life forms. Right. And those realities. Yeah. Because that is what he who remains wanted and he would have you. You being Loki, you being sylvie you being Amanda dobbins. Believe that that was pure and good because the scarier thing was what Kang the conqueror was going to do or what a mortis might do. Or what Scarlett said, sure he might do.

"Taking it off. Is it really heavy bit of art where? It's like wearing a Tapestry. And if you're walking through puddles it becomes like a kind of duvet in a monsoon. Weighty. No, it's great. And I think the fact that I got to do this first in Spider-Man: No Way Home and kind of warm into playing in front of camera again was just Kristen Emile for developing this part of this story. A lot of fun. I always suspected this day would come. Because you always suspected this day would go. Can I relate to this theme of family being important? Oh, yes. Yes. It's everything. For me, personally, anyway. I work with my sister. She did my makeup today. It does my makeup. For everything, I wish my brother could do my hair. 'cause then we always be together. They're in Canada, so I miss them dearly. And, you know, my children are everything to me. My partner. So yeah, I wouldn't have much without that. I think it's a nice value to bring into the MCU. I mean, after all, you know, families do see these movies, so it reflects obviously our audience, families without doubt, the most important thing in life for me. What do you know about the multiverse? Viz had his theories. He believed it was dangerous. The movie also got us wondering, what would a multiverse version of Rachel McAdams be like? She speaks 5 languages. She's musical. And she's a farmer. I'm talking like rockstar. Material Beyoncé. I would be my chill version of Beyoncé. His name is Benedict. That's right. Oh, yeah. And.

It was a right into the haunted house. What is in there? We want to see. You know what I mean? I just, my body has starred and scream one, two, three, four, and 7. Reprise to roll, but I think that's human nature. That reminds me of the story of Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. Have a hated each other on the set of the notebook. And ended up falling in love at the end. That's a beautiful story, actually. It was. Until it ended. Bridgerton returns to Netflix, march 25th, and we can not wait. Last night on the bachelor, Clayton told not one. Not two, but all three ladies, he was falling in love with them. But things got really heated on ABC when one of them found out he was triple dipping. I'm falling in love with you. You know, I'm falling in love with you. I am. I really am. I am in love with you. Do you feel that same way with somebody else? Or. Have you. Like, slept with another woman? Yes, thank you. I have slept with someone else here. And. Yes, I've expressed feelings towards someone else who fall in love. This is something very big to me. And I don't think I can get past those things. And.

That's the best one one of their favorite ones. And that was me man shaky headed you see this keeping track of all this shit all theories and everything and i adore the last one the fact that he i mean spoiler alert. He melted his own. Fucking universe. that what the fuck. You're not supposed to have that in the schwartz and good times. No that was awesome. And he's in there for millennia learning how to be essentially the devil but fist. Oh maybe who knows. But there's little peaks and stuff there but All man great. How's this sucker. And i remember waiting at the end of the episode. Because because he's right at the end people do liquefied and slime come off on the whole universe was melting now like waiting for like well. Shit here come the good doctor strange to fix everything. That's like credits. An oh shit okay. Got them watchers. The watch even told about the watcher. Says i just sit back and watch unless you decimal the fuck. I can't say oh. It was funny how he was like. I know you seem you watching. You could do something. Like yeah. But he finally just said all right mega dam now but that one was pretty darn trouble buying into it because that the character. Listen rachel mcadams rachel mckenna's she was never set up like a big love interest like i never built. There was never that convincing moment of like a while. They're so in love and now he's this love sick that he's going against everything that he knows to be true. Yeah at the time when things were going bad. I it's supposed to be like this like bet. I was pulling for them one appeal. He's talented young man. Let's kick it off here. Let's go here. The couples we have on the celebrity couple bracket in the game. I'm going to run through them all. Then we're gonna take the we're going to do the competition we have rachel mcadams and ryan gosling. We have ellen degeneres and an hey sh we have jamie fox katie holmes. I love judy garland. And vincent minnelli. Kim kardashian and kanye west cleopatra and mark anti an old better goody famous celebrity couple. I guess celeb- is sure. I mean they were celebrities for by. What standard are they. Not huge bucket celebrities. Yeah you're right you're right sure. Tell me anything that they all right. It's the thirty five. They're coming out of craig's equivalent in cairo right. It would have been alexandria at that time. But you're right. I think that. Well i my. My one slight pushback would be that a true. Celeb- is on some level famous for being famous or famous as a result of some kind of very entertaining thing that they do whereas cleopatra was you know the head of state of the gypsum client kingdom to rome and then mark antony fuck was at that particular time like the fucking governor of how do you egypt or how do you. I don't know let's go. We'll read the wikipedia. Well he had split the empire with augusta's and then was like i'm going to egypt because that's where all the green is Yada yada yada. And then they had and then augusta's after a while it was like this can't stand and we're going to kill you but i think but that's fine. We'll let it go. Certainly they are. They're celebs now. Yeah and they have a love that has lasted for thousands of years famously. Yes i will concede. You're right in some sense. They were more of politicians right With mixed records at best. If we're being honest very mixed but in the same way in the same way that once woodward and bernstein became the leads played by. Dustin hoffman and robert redford fry. They became celebrities in perpetuity. Ones william shakespeare puts you as the protagonist. You're famous. You're just a fucking big time celebrity. Didn't matter what they did after that. You know what i mean like. that's cool. You know like like zuckerberg in the social network right zuckerberg social network. You know because. Obviously i personally view aaron sorkin as the shakespeare of now couple of things. You need to know about me. I think is our shakespeare and i think those are the two things that you need to know. Incredible time timezone. Right god palm takes dropped on this. Am i just stick in my life. What else what am i trying to do. I don't mean eh obviously kidding. i'm kidding say that That i think the one of the worst probably the worst thing that happened to woodward's career was that robert redford was cast him in the movie. It messed him up. I messed him up for the rest of his life. I think the hardest part of woodward's career has been dragging around. Carl bernstein like a fucking sack full of bricks for the last forty years. I mean their names are together because of j. school not necessarily because of any kind of like professional ongoing relationship right right right all right. Let's hit back to our segment. "Wait? Are you so how about this childhood sweethearts? Have married in a real life version of the notebook. No, I've never seen it after 22 years apart. You can't do this doing friend. What you can't relate. I think I know what the story is. Now. The guy even proposed the engagement ring that he gave her when they were 15, Helen Marshall and Grammar. Richardson, I believe is how you say his name are both in their early forties They met in school. Admired each other from across the hallways before they fell, had over heels in love as teenagers after nine months of romantic walks in school discos and whatever else, um he apparently proposed to her at like 15. Their parents are worried. They were way too young. The engagement never wanted happening. Hey, went off to college and 94. The pair drifted apart. Just like in the movie with Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. The letters proclaiming their lost love never reached each other, and they got on with their lives separately. So they got in a different relationships. They had kids all of that, then both split up. She discovered, I guess after reaching out to him on Facebook, maybe that he still wanted to be with their and two decades later they proposed he proposed with the same ring from all those years later, and now they're married. They were one of the letters are still there like if she got the letters like at the end You know, I'm sure I'm not sure. But I need to every day. So how do you let me ask you this question. Maybe you don't care. But like, I don't want to use anyone specific in the room. You'd only married once. I'm not gonna do this to you. Let's say you know whoever it is those listening now and they're married. And, um and then God forbid you get divorced, and then your husband or wife winds up with another person from from before. Proclaims that that was their soul mate. Does that make you feel even worse? Like Oh, So what was I placeholder? You know, I mean, like, I mean, that would be like salt in the wound. I'd be like all so this was all a waste of time. Like all of it, Like there was like I wasn't even number one ever. Yeah, That's very true. I mean, uh, I know people say mean things after they get divorced, And maybe you don't care anymore because you know, I got divorced and you're done with it, but I think that would be the worst. Like if if I don't know. Getting back with that person married with someone for 10 10 years we have Children together. You know, I know not every marriage works out. But that would really having add salt to the wound is if my ex wife if I had one married somebody else it was like, Oh, by the way, that was my soul mate. After all, I've had access. Get back with their ex after we break up and that does her It feels like discarded like Were you thinking about her The whole time was I just there? For you. Yeah. Shelly has that ever happened to you? Have you ever dated somebody and then they wound up like the next person they want up with. Is the one. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Happens to me every time I feel like I'm the guy that makes you realize that you don't want to date anymore they go. No, I'm serious. What they had was better than what they're getting that done. "Foam festival But it is. The directory debut of writer kelly oxford and the film covers a lot of anxiety as well as anxiety brought on by your parents man since watching pink skies ahead. I was like. I don't think that'll ever watch another film. That perfectly captures linked to what anxiety feels like. And then i want ship a baby so That kind of you know. Give me a companion piece to that film much sooner than i had anticipated i. It sounds great. I hadn't heard of it. I'm assuming it just it just premiered so it probably hasn't gotten full release year. It will eventually. I believe it was bought by mtv. So i hope that means sometime soon other people will get to feel the other anxiety of that film and can that just do a back to back. Anxious man totally totally. Well i think i think anxiety is probably a theme in movies right now and part of that. At least i think could be tracked back to a start with a movie called uncut gems from the safdie brothers which Talk about. Jewish anxiety is just This this thing that just starts and doesn't let up and it just piles on and there's a certain thing that they do. Which i know is can be tracked back to like all men films and things like that where everybody is just kind of talking over each other and that all adds to the anxiety and at the shiva that the most of the movie takes place in and shiva baby there is just so much going on and you along with The main character of daniel. Just you never can quite get your bearings never can quite figure out where to pay attention to which kind of keeps you on. Edge the whole time to where you are kind of. Just as lost as she is trying to navigate this situation and it is quite an awkward situation and The stakes are kind of high her. But in a kind of almost. I don't wanna say silly because it is you know it's a real situation that she's in there but at the same time you kind of think about it and you kinda laugh because of how just crazy it is that this would happen to this poor girl and similarly with adam sandler's character and uncut gems a very serious situation. But you're just kind of laughing the whole way through because it's like god what he has gotten himself into and that feeling they never let up on it and they just keep it going and going and growing and growing in that anxiousness. Yeah i think uncut champs was kind of a really good catalyst for the. What if we just sat nick zayed's for ninety plus minutes. I mean especially because he really was unrelenting the whole time. And it's not one of those films that i watched in theaters which is good because i needed. I had to get up in time. 'cause i was like i don't have anything to soothe me right now so i just have to walk away and go squeeze like a stress ball through the whole thing or something. Yeah so those are kind of perfect companion pieces. Oh yeah absolutely well. What do you got for your next piece. So my next one. I decided to kind of go. A little bit on the nose with which is The film disobedience which is also about death and it takes place in a far more conservative jewish community mom as well as the fact that it does center on to women who are in love with each other played by rachel vice and rachel mcadams which is like you know. Call me by your name two point. Oh kinda sure. Yeah so. I kinda felt like it was. I mean it's much darker than ship a baby but It kind of is the what would happen if these people were way. More repressed and way less funny. That's a that's a really good way of putting. Yeah that's a great movie and Yeah obviously things get a lot heavier in that film. But definitely i think comes from from a similar place like you said that the kind of repression. But it's like here. The these people aren't necessarily and we should add. Just you know obviously piecing it together as after show people should have should have seen shiva baby before this but we are talking about the the bisexual nature of character and the fact that A girl that she has been really good friends with in the past and a relationship within the past is also the shiva and that is just kind of adding a whole new layer of anxiety to the whole situation for. Yeah i think yeah because disobedience does have also similarly to childhood friends that were in love with each other meeting after the death of someone In this one it is no one's father but it does kind of bring up the you know when you're with old friends too and you start to fall back into your old patterns schorr and i find that also very interesting in both films especially with ship baby because there is so much happening and she's trying to balance so much and then to have this added situation of like. Oh yeah my best friend who. I'm also kind of in love with is here too and my find out about things in my life that i don't want anyone knowing sure. Yeah and and i will say the performances here are just so good because they really do feel like to people who have this long rich history and you know we. We don't get specifically back story or anything like that. We're just kind of thrust into this one shiva situation other than the prologue scene but you just get like you know these two people in their relationship by the end of this movie just based on their interactions with each other at the shiva so i will go onto another piece here and i mentioned this one in our trailer episode where we looked at some upcoming trailers including this movie and that was just for the trailer but after seeing the movie. It definitely applies. And that's darren oscar's mother. I just feel like this movie. The feeling it mostly comes from that score because score is what really connected me to it with with the trailer and that score does continue through the film and it just is designed to absolutely keep you on edge to the whole time as things just ramp up in. Just weirdness craziness they anxiety. We've been talking about this whole time on top of that. There's just that feeling of like personal space being invaded by by family members. In it's like you know you love your family. Of course we all love our family most of us. But you get into these situations though and it's like there's so much overbearing miss and i don't think that that's specifically for for jewish people. I think that's for a lot of different people that feel that. But when you feel it though it's so palpable even though everybody means so well and that's something that like with mother You've got all these people that are making their way into the house of jennifer lawrence and javier bardem and obviously i'm not going to get into a long discussion of what happens in mother all means but just that feeling of having people around you in your home or in the place that you're currently occupying and it just makes your skin crawl. There's too many many people around and they all want a little piece of you know. That's like a perfect comparison. Because i think the thing that resonated most for me with mother was Her shouting at people to get out of her house with shiva baby. You know the way that she fights to like create space for herself.

"Well she didn't want to end it even though she was married. Whatever the hell this was she didn't want to let it go and she knew keys were done. It was over because that was the last thing she had that was keeping us even really comedian. Contact at that point. And so that's kind of how. I define that scene hits me a little more too because i i understand the meaning of why she does get michael. Do you have any heartbreaking tales relationships you wish to share serrano copy copay. Mike scott got miss like things have been good. I drink my orange juice. All their forget that because i would always pay for her meals and i remember i drink my orange juice. I didn't pay for her meal on purpose. Just left our remember anyway. This is after after rachel mcadams leaves hoti. That's when he gets. He finds a letter but i the guy from earlier bachelor degree guy had sent him of this guy. That was walking off sudden. That shouldn't have been able to walk. And all i can think of myself was legal. Is that what he did. Yeah he's not getting the file back. He's not that was the poor. I yeah but it was kind of like a. Hey told you so. It's a device. Because i just think about that like yeah. That's that's that's a lie. You broke sir. That's someone's personal medical file copies either like i would. I look like you know. The originals are type things. He didn't go to a key. He didn't go to kinko's to make copies. I can tell you that to forty two attracts the guy down. You know and the basketball court and confronts him my wife she's like. Hey that's the guy from woman. I'm like why do you know that. Wow i've never see cat women so i would've association. She watched cat woman. I don't know why would anybody watch. Alison i love. Dc movies and some reason. I i love movies. I never seen cat woman. We do have a podcast series films about superheroes. So maybe that's our future. There's tour of Late one thousand superhero movies doing here. We come to probably. I never said okay. That'd be the only way i would ever watched. Catlin be for this show. But when he when he does find that guy from cattleman and he's talking to him and he goes on how he got his body healed and he went to ns when he tells them where to go in the paw. He says i don't know if he says nepal he's just name of the place maybe says nepal to just the name of the place. Cut him off. i think it's it's how it's pronounced. I guess. Google yeah. I find that frequency. It's it's interesting i liked. I like how he goes there. Like you know this guy tells them and then the guy go right back playing basketball. Jonathan pangbourne. is this character's name leg but that's not a real name right into who can't be on think about when he went to kathmandu nepal..

So then they introduce rachel mcadams and i just love rachel mcadams. I think he's great. Yeah she ends up. She's a gem in this movie for sure she is. I mean she's a gym and a lot of like i. I know she's in the sherlock holmes. I wanna say chivalry. I one irene adler irene adler yeah exactly. I really like movies. I like this one too a lot. She's done a lot of good work. Yep and just a very good job of pulling his character kind late. It turns into the right words. You're maybe feel like the characters more like the stuff that happens between them feel more earned than it has an other movies that we watch the show your kitchen your loves niece a little more like just made more sense started listening to that episode. I like how she they have. They have this guy who has a bullet in his head and again. He's being cocky bastard. Well of course die. You left applauded him like i did. Laugh a little bit of that even though it's not and so he's doing the surgery on him to save this guy. 'cause i guess he could tell it the ball hardened so they must've did blah blah blah and is poisoning in. This movie is six percent medical jargon leg whenever the stuff. I just kinda tuned out leg. I don't want okay came. I don't know much about the medical profession. i know a little. They used to work with people who working in the medical field and every talked me conversations and he talked about stuff like you talked about what he had his heart surgery since he worked in the field he picked the surgeon he wanted. He picked the people he wanted because he knew who the best people were for stuff. That's about all. I got interested. No it's good and this is really showing it showing us that. He is miles ahead of everybody in that hospital right. He is extremely talented and gifted. I was still tense when he was pulling out that that bullet like even though i know just remove standpoint. He's going to save the day like he's going to. This is him saving the day. I thought it was interesting that this is not really him trying to save this person. This is trying to prove you can do it. You are right now. And i think there's those are kind of two sides of him that are at war little bit the side where he actually cares about the patient. He's working on is been stuff so far down in favor of this arrogant facade that he needs to put on to do his job well pursuit of knowledge pursuit of medical science..

"He could have gone back to the moment right before his sister goes the hospital. No still prevent her accident. But but not prevent her from getting with the guy in the first place but she could have still prevailed her car clairon around she would have got into the crash anyway. It if you're wrong. And here's why. Because they have the breakthrough they have the breakthrough when she was laying in hospital bed. And she's like. I need to leave him. I need to stop drinking. And i need to. There was another thing. But they wouldn't have been able to have that breakthrough with her unless you had a near death experience. I guess the idea is like if you see her in the hospital bed and you do know that she's okay then it's not like if she actually like. We're like a paraplegic or something serious had happened. Maybe you'd be more likely to. I think the other thing about it. Is it points. Back to something. Rachel mcadams said like. I'm going to try to explain this in the way that makes sense but it's so complicated when multiple timelines happening but the time the first time the accident happened so before he goes back and tries to stop her from meeting. Jimmy at all he sitting with rachel mcadams and they're talking about her and he's like i'm worried about my sister and she says let like he's like i need to find something to do like how to fix it and she says while i think the only way for her to fix this is if she does it herself and then he kind of ignores that almost and goes through his whole whole ordeal. Like i'm gonna get her away from this boy. It's the boy that's the problem. It's not anything else but arguably like the bigger problem is like it is the boy. That's part of the thing but she also is clearly suffering with alcoholism and like that is something that like doesn't just go away like i do think honestly like even if she was really happy with this with jay who i think is so but even if she was happy with jake that's something that was there inside her and so by leading the accident happened. It's him almost like agreeing. In a way with what rachel mcadams says. Which is that like. The only way for her to get better is to address this herself and like really look at it head on and like deal with it from their family members. That's the second time. Tim has to learn that lesson too because at the beginning with margot robbie he was like first. Lesson is no matter how much you travel back in time. You can't force someone to love you and this one lesson is the same thing only no matter how much you travel back. In time. you can't force someone to think a certain way or feel a certain way and not apply to assist her as well. Do you think that's true. Yes you do something interesting. Whenever he goes back in time he tries to fix something and Not really being fixed. At least for i guess for him for anything and i love how because of that. It's almost like a lesson. Learned like every time he travels at. It doesn't go his way. It's like a lesson learned and it's interesting that we have to go through life. Not traveling time. I guess learning lessons on the spot while he yeah. I don't know where i'm going with this. But i really like the fact that a no hold on i really. I really like the fact that whenever he did go back for to to try to fix major things like the baby thing and his sister thing that it was mostly a learned lesson for him in his life and.

"I kinda think because like bill. Nike is almost a more fleshed out character. The rachel mcadams. It's it's almost. It's almost more of a father son. Love story than than Than a romantic story. Like lake. Rachel mcadams kind of fills that role. But i think it's. It's almost odd to me that he never reveals a secret to her. Like did that to you guys. Totally i was thinking about that. A lot actually allows watch. I think about this a lot. Every time i watch it because i'm in this like slightly turmoil because i love this movie but there also are definitely like some minimization of women in it which is hard of. I always notice that it's like it is very interesting to look at rachel mcadams character. Who like kind of falls into that. Stereotypical like girl next door archetype. We're like she's just sweet and a little naive in like fun but it works. I think because we get the family dynamic added as well like it would look so bizarre otherwise like it. I don't think this movie would be as well loved if it was just about them. And we got this version of rachel mcadams because then we'd be like he's just manipulating their relationship through time. Travel like totally. He got her to like fall in love with them as he memorized. All these things about here. It's like. I love kate moss and all other things and she was like. Oh my god what is this guy so technically how the relationship started at but i feel like the way progressed. A lot better than the way it started out like them living gets more genuine. Oh my god it's fantastic right right after. They and then only the scene where he talks about life and living every day that's that oh so that entire I don't wanna get there yet. Because it's like that right now but i i am going to mention it. That just like the little things in library wakes up and takes care of the kids. Just spend time with his wife each just so beautiful..

"New year's eve and i'd been waiting it. But not i mean you know. Richard curtis it's middle-class people having middle-class relationships in middle-class screw ups and foibles. Nola kind of stuff and as much of it as much That it is that it's also sweet and funny. And i loved the relationship between the sun and bill nye I i it was. It took me a little bit by surprise How much. I did enjoy the the dating in the dark scene which was very sweet And i think i sort of i kind of lost track a little bit at the at the ending. I think there was something i can't remember. Now it's been five seasons of saying it but there was something towards the end whereas sort of lost track of of how the mechanics worked But i do remember just having a having a nice cozy time. Which is when. Richard curtis is at his best is when he's just giving you a nice just a nice warm cozy time. That's what it was. I agree with you. it's a it's a nice watch and you get an coziness. You get from a lot of richard. Richard curtis films and he's gone very high concept hasni towards really towards the last few years of his career. Increasing leads moved away from the family comedies. All vignette comedies whereas now is kind of basic things around these higher concepts like time travel I think that the the reason that you lose some of the central time mechanics. The end is because they break down the this allow the central one of the central issues in the plot is that i think it's the the main characters called ten and he realizes he can't travel past the birth of these children at one point because he travels past the birth of his first child to help his sister and when he comes back to the future his child is no longer the child left behind him. He speaks to his dad about it because in the in the narrative it's all the males in the family time travel it's pretty like the time traveler's wife in that sense. It's different rules in place. One of the interesting things about it actually is merry. Who is love. Interest in about time is also clear. The love interest a baton. Trump was played by rachel. mcadams I had played by the same actress. Just really interesting.

Slate's Dear Prudence
No Taste for Zero Waste
"Hello and welcome back to the dear prudence show once again and as always. I am your host dear prudence also known as daniel m lavery with me in the studio this week. Is sarah hoagie or based in toronto. Canada sarah welcome to the show off. Thanks it's been a while it's been a few years. It's been a long time and last time weirdly. I didn't get to see your face in this time i do. Even though both times we were not in the same room. Yeah i mean it's it's really nice. I'm looking into your eyes. it's crazy. I it feels very you. I feel very close to you. I'm admiring eyebrows. Saw their powerful. I will not stop. I will praise your eyebrows for the entire. Oh my god yeah. Thank you so much. I love your shirt. Thank you for having such create eyebrows. Let's tell everyone how to live their lives and Just generally how to do better. Yeah i'm good at that. I'm good at time people what to do. You often do that to me via text. And i've always really enjoyed it so i'm just looking forward that other people get to have a chance to experience for themselves today. Would you read our first letter. Please alright subjects clean plate club dear. Prudence was raised in a zero waste environment. Where everything was composted recycled she now trying to implement policy in our own home. I try to waste as little as possible but occasionally i don't like something. She cooks or get fully. She gets extremely upset. When i was food i started secretly throwing it away. I feel like a child. When i do this and i keeping secrets. I also hate feeling pressure to eat food. I don't like or that. I'm not hungry for. I don't want to treat our future children this way. I want them to feel comfortable staying there. Done my wife. Also several pounds overweight. And i think a large part of this is due to her inability to just walk away from food. She's mentioned a desire to get more in shape but doesn't seem to draw the connection between her clean plate habits and her weight challenges at the same time. I don't want children to become food. Obsessed or worried about their weight. The seems like a fraud situation angles. What should i do agree. That seems fraught. There is a lot here. There's like maybe nine different questions. I the one thing. I wanted to start with although i realize it's not the most important issue is a while back. I was no longer going to be taking questions where people would write in and described their spouse x number of pounds overweight. Because people i have noticed. Have a real fondness forcing exactly how many pounds they think their spouses overweight. And they've always got it like ooh. I know within two pounds what the number is yet. It's really weird to see several pounds overweight because like that's very hard to notice. Yeah that's like probably pretty well within a range and human beings exists in rain. I don't know like to me. It feels like if you happen to think she should weigh three pounds less than you know what i mean. It feels very rachel mcadams and mean girls. Like i wanna lose three pounds. It's very specific. Yeah so i would just say. Don't worry about that one. Let that one go one solution to not liking what. Your wife cooks and feeling like a child is cooking yourself. I don't that's that's insane from this that this person's wife is always cooking because that was the vibe. I got the. I was like she cooks. I don't yeah. I mean it does seem like it's i mean if you don't like what someone is cooking you can easily just not eat or cook yourself or even at the very least i'll make my own food. Yeah you do that. And i'll do this kind of thing. But i i do think it is just a bit odd like how much control the someone have over you throwing away food or not you can. You can just do it right. I mean the thing was. She gets really upset when i waste food which i get. You don't want your wife to feel extremely upset. But she's also not gonna die if she gets upset so if you were to say i love you so much. I am not hungry for this anymore. Either put it in the fridge and eat it the next day leftovers. That's one common solution. There's so many solutions. Let her be upset and declined to secretly. Throw it to the dog later. That's that's not gonna work for you. I feel like maybe they. They don't understand the concept of leftovers perhaps but also another thing you can do is i. Don't know maybe ask her to make less food. I mean like it's like it's like meals have to come in one portion. That's the only portion you can ever make for. Whatever meal like. they're adaptable. But i do think there are so much more here because it's it does seem like you know maybe there is some type of eating habit thing that is a part of it which also i don't think is someone's problem to solve for someone else And i don't think having a fight about wasting food is the way to support someone who might have some sort of food issues or right and i think i wanna have patients for both of these people because it seems a little clear to me that they both have some food issues. Which i mean. Who doesn't also but i don't wanna say that is just like we all have food issues so these are just yours and you can't do anything about it so much as you know. It seems like the letter writer feels a certain degree of if someone else's upset with you about food you have to fix it

New Movies Coming To Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu And HBO This Weekend
"If you have Amazon prime video there's a movie called mice bite which was just hitting theaters when covert nineteen hit this is an action comedy Dave Batista who's you know guardians of the galaxy you know that big giant former wrestler guy he's a CIA agent row he finds himself teamed up with the precocious nine year old so in other words should be making kindergarten cop now I have to tell you about this to think that this is actually this is a rite of passage for action star Jackie Chan had a movie like this the rock had a movie like this John Cena is had a movie like this at some point you gotta so you're lovable side and be charged with guarding little kids and then you learn about the soft side yourself this one is particularly horrible and one of the things we hate about this movie Rakan my spot is set primarily in Chicago they shot it in Toronto eight that and the worst moments in this movie is there's a chase that begins in wicker park okay the bad guy gets behind the wheel of a car with her party he's trying to get away from Dave Batista CIA agent now the C. I. A. tech person is in David she says here telling them where you know traveling this guy and the agents as one minute after this car leaves wicker park the agent says looks like he's heading to the Naperville area because Naperville has a giant airfield so wrong later five minutes later we're in phony Naperville where I kid you not there's a big you know action sequence where the plane on the runway is now dangling over what appears to be the Grand Canyon who knew that in Naperville there was an airport overlooking a giant canyon clearly green screen so I mean it's just been really poorly done it's too violent for the little kids and it's too stupid for the adults and a lot of parents thing all this might be fun have a fun action movie stay away from my spy that's too bad you're you're totally right about that right of passage because Arnold Schwarzenegger had to do that too right I mean it was like a garden shop yeah I mean everybody has to make sure that the kids have something to go watch in that in those movies were actually pretty good for kids you're saying this one's not this was terrible okay now I've got I've got the funniest movie of the summer Fauria probably so far it has the worst title of all time it's called Eurovision Song Contest the story of fire saga well the Eurovision Song Contest is an actual deal in Europe and has been since the rent if these in fact Salim young was discovered on that aba was first on the Eurovision Song Contest this is a parity with will Ferrell the king of the parity right and Rachel McAdams they play a couple of Icelandic singer songwriters he's Lars Eriksen she's cigarette original daughter and their Icelandic and they're dreaming of representing their home whether they do kind of like Viking game of thrones stamp rock songs so this is filled with all these big production numbers because then we meet the contestants from Greece and the grand the Russian the Russian contest is actually played by our friend Dan Stevens was Matthew Crawley on Downton abbey he plays a Russian oligarch who's also a ballad singer it's really really stupid and it's really really funny it's mostly excuse these big giant set pieces where they do these huge production numbers remember will Ferrell did a movie called blades of glory your hair well he does for you know that did for ice dancing with the stars for song competition so even though we don't know the Eurovision Song Contest here in the states we know about all the competition shows that this is basically get one singer from each country you know what it's all European countries they have a couple of other than the states they're not we're not eligible for the Eurovision Song Contest was there an SNL bit with will Ferrell that was similarly themed I I just don't know that there could have been it's it's clearly the kind of stuff that he just excels at when you see him in the big Viking outfit and looks like the blue eye shadow it's singing about Viking you know might biking protector this is the song from this will enrich McAdams by the was wonderful as well she can also be very funny the video and the song they do is so terrible that it's great because it looks just like when you see those kind of you know that's a big deal that kind of like that Viking will rock nonsense yeah there's my aunts were everybody everybody pretends like the rolling the slave ship which is really just unfortunate or the big Viking ship as it will be we kind of you know horrible music but really right prepared well it there's that old joke about Led Zeppelin thank you know I have the have the crap was about Vikings right and if the agency had no idea what they were saying about this the music was so great musicianship as of right but if you look back you're like what the hell of the talk was only in the middle of the song yeah they had they did they had references to the lord of the rings when it was just a yeah they were so ready this is really true okay and anything else this weekend it's yeah I want to tell people is a completely does shift in tone row but the there's a best selling book a called I'll be gone in the dark written by the late Michelle McNamara who was UP board result park went to California become a true crime writer Mary Patton Oswalt the famous comedian and actor and she wrote about one of the best true crime book sense in cold blood called I'll be gone in the dark about the search for the Golden State killer probably the least known to most prolific serial killer rapist of the last fifty years this is not a six part series about Michelle's book and also about the Golden State killer it starts on HBO on Sunday night if people if you're into that true crime genre you know talk about making a murderer people aren't so many of these other ones this is the podcast to get started this is brilliantly done and it's really a profile of Michelle McNamara and her marriage to Pat now as well because it's young obviously she had a lot of recording should podcasters video for a lot and she died while writing the book she died in her sleep partially because the stress of the book and and prescription drugs and under heart condition and they continued patent and some researchers continued and finished the book without her and then we get to know the story of this incredible monster who I will let people know was just arrested a couple of years ago and charged with all these crimes because guess what they got his DNA matched about fourteen of the crime scenes that that kept the updates from I'll be gone in the

Justin Bieber Is Reportedly 'Not Over' Selena Gomez Despite Marrying Hailey Baldwin
"Is that they actually got married on because both of them have started to refer to each other publicly as has been. Man and wife. So that's the first thing also heavily Baldwin the and I love how she's referred to in any news segment or any news right up is twenty one year old model. Geyser is there a bigger antagonised in my whole life than twenty one year old model? No. She trademarked the name Haley Bieber for intentions of a clothing line. Would we like to know what does I Haley Bieber? Clothing line look like? What is that? Whatever outfits the people like marshalling the gates of hell is what I imagined, but seems about right. Also, I love that they've been looking for house because he's been wanting to move out of his neighbor. I think he lives next door like, no kidding. I think he lives right next door to Ellen generous who famously has complained about him at times because of the partying. And she's like, we live in a normal like neighborhood like which, okay, Ellen. How about we all come down with? We all live in a normal neighborhood. Okay. Little down with your. Don't don't presume you're normalcy upon me, Ellen. This isn't the crosswinds subdivision that went up twenty sixteen like come on, but I love that one of the stories that came out recently that he's, he went to Demi Lovato his house. You know where she overdosed and was like, this is nice, Demi of taste. This is very stable for marriage. She almost died here, but if it was like it will work for us. Selena Gomez in the weird love triangle because they are love triangle to me because I want Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez to get back together like, okay, well, I hate to break up an engagement, but they're not married maybe. But if our I wouldn't wish for it at him. So Hailey, Baldwin, the James Marsden Justin Bieber is Justin Bieber drawing Gosling, Rachel mcadams. Oh, Justin Bieber is for sure. And Haley Baldwin is even Mendez right? Like she's fine like it's fine. She's going real-life see. I was going to notebook here. I gotta be honest with you. Let's see. Okay. Justin bieber's hair is throwing me off in a very distinct way and I don't know how to classify it because wires everyone. Okay. With it, he's going full on like shell, Panama City hundred ninety seven. Yeah, see, I was going to go like. Gator Wrangler from the Gulf shores of Florida because I don't get too, don't get too close choppy handoff. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. He's beating. Well, Selena, and all of this during all of this hullabaloo, unfortunately, like wintom hospital now, remember she has had she had a kidney transplant, I think last year, right? Which I love that story to you by the way she was living with one of her close friends, also an actress, and she came home one day and it was like opening a bottle of water and kitten, and Selena like threw it on the ground. I was so frustrated. I was like what's wrong and she's like, I'm so sick and I need a transplant. Kidney doesn't work. Can't you see like the list is seven to ten years log and I can't get. She's like, I'll get tested. And then then she opened another box and there was a kidney but she could have. And that's. Cookie crunch here you go now anyway. So sleeve back to the hospital because apparently she had some issues with her allegedly with her white blood cell count. And then she went to the hospital. I.
