"Never. Forget it and then you can have someone else who can go in the backyard and be pulling weeds all day long you know three or four hours or more and they'll end up with it so that makes rab dough again fascinating to me now. Some people can get get this condition from a lot of interest in some people can get it from you know what we would most likely say is not a whole lot of activity so it is the unusual nature of some of exercise and some individuals that can trigger this so it's not just too much exercises too much unfamiliar types of so if someone is not used to a certain level of activity therefore like if they go from doing nothing to already like you said gardening in the backyard playing with kids for an extended period of time kind of opening up that that windows to be exposed to rather there possibly yes. It's a very very strange there have been cases of Rabbo across the board very fit very unfit pro athletes non athletes kids in elementary school from gym class sometimes stuff like that so yeah. The rate I do think is is low overall compared to other medical conditions but it is something that has potential in almost anybody if they do it too much especially if they if they push beyond a mental breaking point if they you know for instance they they think they want to quit but their mind will not let A._M.. quit for whatever reason maybe they don't WanNa disappoint the group in the class or the exercise instructor they push beyond their mental breaking point has seems to be something else that can trigger robbed. Oh Okay and is there any role of genetics and the onset of Rub. All some colleges actually do genetic testing these days on athletes for this very reason one one trait that they're most likely testing force to sickle cell anemia trait where if you had to jeans you'd have sickle cell anemia and if you only we had one gene you have what's called a sickle cell trait having the sickle cell anemia trait can increase the risk of getting wrapped Oh and so there is a there is some genetics to rab doe. I actually know people who've had it multiple times. I One <hes> fitness instructor in particular who said I believe six times and and I don't know what what if she has genetic issue or not but you know there does seem to be a genetic link to grab DOE although a quote unquote Rab don't gene has not ever been discovered that I've ever seen so that we weren't getting checked out. If it was something on your horizon yeah for sure and then also you know we've discussed cross it people in general just working at other other any other institutes or corporations. Even maybe people are risk and you know I I wouldn't say anyone in particular. I know that the the military has had to share Rondeau working to lower that but now I would say that the biggest issue with Rab Dough is <hes> lack of education on it. I often said the best defense against Raimondo is education and so the more we talk about the more we educate people on it. The less likely it is has to occur so no I really don't WanNA point at any one in on individual one group and quite frankly. I don't think I've ever seen any one particular group that you know you can say the that group over there is more look at it 'cause Rabdah another's. I really do think it has to do with education education of the of the individual as well as the fitness trainer themselves and then busy from prevention point of view is not the people can do noise into all set the possibility of having yeah absolutely absolutely Raboteau happens often say when you do a lot of stuff you're not used to doing so just do the opposite. Don't start with you know five sets legs start with one set of legs. One set a leg press for instance. Don't do five cents leg presses. Don't don't do leg presses leg curl squats dead lifts and Steffi's I start which is the leg press one set lightweight something you lift maybe twelve to twenty times move onto another exercise. I think when we come to exercise exercise people are under the impression they have to train the Bodybuilder Nash Not true if if if if there are personal trainers who are listening to us right now they need to know who their client is. The vast majority of people who hire fitness trainers are women who are beginners novices and they're usually over the age of forty and so since they are beginners the safest way to train a beginner is with a total body circuit training program do one set of chess arms back buys tries legs whatever and then what you do is going to do is going to spread the exercise stimulus out over a wide array of muscles. That's GonNa also dampened down the degree of muscle soreness experiencing damping down also the risk of overuse injuries and also Raboteau as well so I would say that's the best defense Ed's against rapper Nelly Education but not overworking anyone muscle group that makes sense because when it comes to personal or sometimes we get caught up chasing the let's make my clients sore type thing but you bring coming up a good point and when I teach classes I often tell them this. They are again. It is a unfortunately little known secret that in some fitness centers trainers are sometimes told to make people sore on purpose as is a psychological trick to get people to sign up for personal training and problem arises when the trainers know about Rab Dough in the gym owner whatever does know about Rabbo and the client obviously probably know about rubbed either so it's <hes> it is unfortunate unfortunate storm event events that could lead to this condition. I remember one guy told me who spent a week in the hospital that he said he later found out. Everybody in the gym was no more than a bunch of buff people in Polo shirts. None of them were certified personal zone trainers. They just look good in a polo shirt. Unfortunately they heard them. Unfortunately it's part of part of the industry run right so I know for all the action attention has gotten in the media. Is there something you've seen a myth and some you'd like to dispel people yeah so I think the biggest meth it concerns kidneys when people talk about rabbit or they say oh I got kidney problems and. And an end to decrease Rabbo there sometimes still drink a lot of water and that will reduce your risk of Rondeau and I'd like to say let's take let's take a step back and realize that water does not stop muscle fiber death when people talk about hey you drink a lot of water. They're only concerned with you know maybe protecting the kidneys from being clogged up from too much yoga which is a protein that actually is toxic your kidneys in high concentration. The issue is that drinking water does not stop the process of occurring and drinking water does not stop the liver problems in the heart problems and other issues associated with Rondo and then the other thing I would point out is that it is possible. Although I don't know statistics that someone may go on the Internet and here this drinking water herbal urban remedy for this and they may drink too much water and then they may come out with even other another serialisation called Hypo may trivia which is just as serious as robin wine hibernate is where you drink so much fluid you dilute the electrolytes in your blood and this can also destabilize your heart rate on any in very extreme cases can even cause death and so again I come back to my original thesis is that if someone thinks they have Rondo the best offenses go to the hospital and get checked out. You know do some tests on you to find out if you have it or not so I I'd like to point that out. I'd also also <hes> WANNA point out something that nobody's really talking about and that is again as you touched on earlier people sometimes confuse Rabdah with delayed muscle soreness and when they're in pain they often reach for painkiller medicines like aspirin and advil. I would highly recommend you do not do this. Because one of the side effects of these non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs is that they can dampen down your kidney function in the person who's already kidney compromise Rondeau overdosing on these pain Kennett painkiller medicines addison's can make Rabbo worse and so I again I come back to don't self medicate. Don't look for so called experts on the Internet you know Google my name and rabbit over find a whole lot of stuff but you know don't even listen to me I again. I want you to get proper. Medical attention may sense. There was a period there not too long ago where I feel like I mentioned these were being used like candy and then all of a sudden we had that warning whereas they might not be good for your liver so hold back on those well. Let's do this. We're going to transition into the supplement side of things next and I just want to ask you. How did you approach one about writing view book on supplements? You know I've I've been as much as I like to research Rondeau. I have been investigating dietary supplements since the nineteen nineties and so when I wrote my book several years ago which I do need to update <hes> I again I I serve as a whole bunch of people will over one hundred people. So what do you want to know about and I put that on a spreadsheet maitre addressed all those topics because they were topical back then some of them still are <hes> and then eventually I went on and I created a website where rave reviews of dietary supplements etc so <hes> a lot of the topics that I write about investigate come from people who little email me and say hey what about this is this true or is that true and it gets my interest because I'm I liked to investigate to supplements. I originally originally started writing about them. In in the ninety s when I was reading for a General Fitness Journal in Pennsylvania and I picked the topic at random chromium and back then when I was in college people were taking chromium for weight loss and I remember people taking with with milkshakes and for weight loss and I was like that doesn't make sense so I decided to write a little article in chromium weight loss and I discovered <hes> very quickly that what the research said did not jive with what the advertisements were saying basically pointed that out and I picked another supplement and I found the same thing the science and then advertisement didn't lineup and I picked another one and another one and then again became a dog with a bone. I just wanted to help people understand suck most. They take <hes> not all Paul supplements are Baloney. There's some good products out there but you know finding separating the chaff issues can be difficult for some people and so I just try to be a light darkness and you know give them a safe place where they can learn about this stuff. <hes> in in plain English not use a lot of big words fuel when it comes to the self mosaic things where people when they you know venture online or go into G._N._C. or something they just feel totally overwhelmed right one because there's so much choice you know what would some beginner tips for people who are maybe looking to ads himself months. It could just be basic minimum amino acids right or is in that area yeah so for one thing I would say if someone is literally a big inner due to getting healthy and exercise and all that I would say don't even worry about supplements eat well. I sometimes say the the best supplement overall is a salad or fruit and veggies smoothie. There's no no pill can compare to that no superfood compared to that <hes> but if you're gonNA walk into a health food store right off the bat I would say avoid the exercise section where you've got the testosterone boosters and all that jazz you know if you WANNA throw it and get some protein powder through that and your smoothie or you wrote meal in the morning. I got no problem with. There's some good protein powders out there <hes>. If you want to have a basic multi-vitamin that's fine as well. I don't think you need to go the the mega powerful multivitamin route you know any multivitamins are essentially micronutrients. We don't need a lot of them to stay healthy..

"Speaker ask it to play KYW NewsRadio. I'm John Valeria Sheridan Howard is at the editor's desk. Three things to know. The city rang in the New Year's with a traditional Mummers parade. Tens of thousands of people lined the broad street for route for this one hundred nineteenth annual Mummers parade. The city of Camden was once considered one of the most dangerous places in the country while it's still far from a finished product. Crime is down in graduation rates are up over the past five years. Why don't we NewsRadio met with stakeholders in the city to get an in depth? Look at what changed in. Here's KYW's it Mike Dorothy overall crime in this city is at a fifty year, low Camden County police chief Scott Thomson says building trust and repairing a fractured relationship with residents is a key component unity police and cannot be an initiative it has to be a philosophy. It has to be ingrained in the culture of the organization. The murder rate has dropped by sixty percent over five years. Violent crime is down forty percent. Thompson credits the transition from a warrior to a guardian mentality. And that's making the difference in the byproduct of that has been that more people now leave their homes. More people now will let their children play in front of their home their houses ride their bikes Brian Morton of north Camden says residents have. Noticed a shift in the police policy getting out of their cars walking up and down the streets. Getting to know the community identifying who the good citizens are says when the same cop is there every day. It's easier to ask for help. Or report a crime resonance feel that they can trust turning over information that would lead to the arrest. North Camden alone once had more than thirty open air drug markets. Now, there are none we've gone from the worst neighborhood in terms of violent crime and drug activities to to the safest neighborhood chief Thompson says there are still many, troubled neighborhoods, and he isn't claiming victory yet. We still have a long road ahead of us. But where we are today is much better than where we were yesterday. And I think we're going to be in a better place to mar Mike Darty KYW NewsRadio. "It's political for me to like, I just like one, I wear what I feel like I dress according to how I feel, which is important. But I also like I know inside to give a talk, this is perfect ample at this conference that was about a brought people from around the country. Mayors, their staff preachers pull bunch of people who do work with black men and boys, right into conversations. This was not to go, I think. And I know that most people in that room when they think about blackboard, the men. Thank that the bosom and they ought to be fight for are mostly straightened tender, right that the people. Imagine there my so you know what I were to get my closing keynote a red. Calvin Klein suit. Yes, yes would goes ripe aside and that was the satori choice. I made that shows in a room where people I knew would be in suits mostly in ties or grain type of way back. Right? Because it represents. And I was like, you know what? Number where there's red suit. So like that was a move that I did to push against the norms, the rules that tell me as a black man that I am supposed to tighten myself restrict myself confined myself cage myself. So some rules like I'll wear like a long as MU like I'll be look. And what I love is when I walk into the streets best, I are anywhere really. And people just be looking like, yeah, he's straight. I've got a bit and like a long shirt on that kind of looked like a drip like what he giving he's giving you. Wait, because then you have little kids like a little boy that always run up, like yo, mister, you are so fly like that looks so nice. And that is just like, I want to, you know, give fashion for me as like freedom. Yeah, I just come out the cage. I'm like, I wear whatever. I feel I'm gonna give me some. Yeah, I'm sure it's real short and that's what I'm not like that next thing, you know, I got to do my neighborhood. They got to save. So. Style. Okay. Style kind. Instagram, like yes, Dr nail? Yes. Anytime you a fresh cut he posted, I'd be like, come on with this lining. That is so crisp heavy. I love it and I think it's the duality. You don't have to be. So yes, you should be to wear Gucci sneakers whenever you want, and also then be in a fist up t shirt it, we can together correct one through. Okay. Why not? So do all of this like activists lecturer teacher, author hosts all of that, how you taking care of yourself? What is self care looking for you? Gosh, soda, that's an important question right now as I am battling yada just developed last week, and this is. I'm so glad you. Oh my gosh. So that developed partially sometimes response to stress sometimes response to travels traffic a lot. And you're sitting. It's your attic nerve which is sort of new your, but not your leg at the bottom of your spy. I'm on pain, like I'm on pain meds right now. A few months before that ended up in a hospital for five days with the condition car arrived on my Ellis's which the breakdown of your muscle tissue that flows into your bloodstream and can damage your kidneys. What happens and I'm telling this this is so important. What happens is you you have a a protein critic highways. You always have one hundred fifty to two hundred count. My count was two hundred eighty eight thousand. Yeah, and I ended up hospitalized for five days. You know how that happened because I started working out with a new trainer and we overdid it next day. I got up and shovel. And so what's interesting about this is that my body over the last month as sort of my travel have kicked has been speaking very loudly to me. The RAB DOE was like my body saying you over, did it? You know what I'm saying? I was the hydrated when I was working out. I was, you know, worked out in trouble the next day hospitalized for five days best. Typical Kinda funny looking car So why we can't just have, normal normal looking cars Yeah Look. Different, yes no. Doubt let's talk to Susan in Los, Angeles, Susan welcome to the car pro. Show thank you for taking my. Call I'm looking to get a new car and I'm looking at the Toyota RAV four versus the Honda CR v. and just wondering what your opinions are on those comparatively hate that question because they're both just so. Good You know they're different they've updated the CRV since Toyota updated the rap four so you get some some pretty cool features Hondas using a turbocharger now which I love Ravitz probably going. To get you a little better fuel economy it's gonna run. You, less money up front, because of incentives now the big question is are you gonna buy or are you, going to leave Well that is a big question, because we've never leased a car before and we were considering doing, that this time I'm retired schoolteacher so I'm not. Driving nearly as much as I used to. Probably, my current car is ten years old and I have about one hundred. And one thousand miles on it and I'm probably going to. Be, driving slightly less so, I think I could manage the lease yeah you could Lisa's I really have, never least that's okay I mean tell somebody leashes for the first, time you know it's it's just people tend to. Over complicate leasing it's a different way to. Buy, a car You got a lot of options and it kind of depends on your mindset you're great on the miles ten thousand miles a year is pretty. Common I typically tell people to, go a little bit more go to. Twelve thousand a year because there's nothing worse than coming up on your mileage. Limits, and having to change plans because of that the difference in the, monthly payments very slide from ten thousand twelve, thousand so I've got all sorts of articles that my FAQ page at my website Susan I think that's. Your first. Decision buyer, lease because if you lease if you end up, going with the lease the Toyota is going to. Have a much lower payment than the Honda Say much you could be, thirty forty bucks a month just because Toyota is so aggressive with leasing They think a lot of. Money and lose smart money on their part? Because three years from now you gotta make a decision are you going to buy that? Ran for are you want to do it all over again, and get on a cycle of leasing so if they can get you, on a cycle of leasing they're going to sell. You three cars in nine years versus one car nine years for most people who purchase make sense Yes okay so but still I'm still at, the conundrum of picking the one that both phenomenal they're just different so, it comes down to what you liked the best So I'm currently driving Alexis de Rx three fifty and so I know that this car is going. To have less power I'm guessing that? What, I have. But. I heard, you talk about how if. You get a small SUV you should probably go for the turbo does the route four. Have a turbo no it does not CRV does but, the RAB does not. Now you gotta realize to this the. Rat is a lot lighter than that Lexus was so although it doesn't have as me, horses to you it may, feel okay. You may be, all, right with? It. Problem, you're gonna have is if you drive both these vehicles and you like that power. When you get. The Honda you're gonna you're gonna go this is it Okay Okay and are there any others that you would? Recommend I look at only started looking at those. Two I recommend the Ford escape a. Lot it's, got it's got the ecoboost engine and it's just an outstanding. Value and that's because of. Incentives, also Ford keeps escape incentives really. High I can't tell you in southern, California but in the market in, Texas there's four thousand dollars in rebates on the twenty eighteen, escape and that would setting down really. Low the other thing for does that I really like is there into your quietness is better than most of the. Imports, now depending on your, budget you might, look have you seen the Lexus in x. No That's probably your. Answer it's not going to be as. Hard it's not going to be as hard a transition for you going from an RX to an inex- because you still got that Lexus feel. Inside and, yes it's. Turbocharged so you might give that some. Thought and plus if you try and in that Lexus, Rx it's going to be worth more to Alexis dealer than than anybody any other brand out. There so I think I think if you can do some test, drives we've got good dealers all over southern, California three Honda, dealer, three Toyota dealers got Lexus of Santa, Monica but look at the that might just be the answer for you and and and I'll tell you what I enjoyed. It Susan let, us, know how we can help you appreciate, your phone call Danny in marble falls Texas not too far from Austin pretty country what can I do for you sir Well Kevin I have been looking at as you vs Yeah A twenty twelve journey with eighty thousand miles on. It Be much loaded what what is your Thoughts on this dole as. Far? As long term Now back then back in that twenty ten twenty seven twenty twelve timeframe as Fiat Chrysler was be informed. And coming out of bankruptcy and all that journey just the quality was just. Never all that great later, on it got fine but in that time frame if you've. Got a twenty twelve thirty got eighty thousand miles I I don't think, there's a lot of life left, in that thing and I hate to tell. You I know why you got interested in it it's because of. The price because they the retail value is horrible but you got to reach You have to consider too the reason that it's horrible am. I picking that's because it's, got a bad reputation for for long term durability and short-term. Quality overall I just I know it's tempting that I just think there's, a lot better choices out there, even if you have to spend a little. Bit more money and get something like we were just talking to. Wrap for CRV afford escape I think there's a lot better choices out there and in the long term you'll end up spending less because you're not having to repair any of those three versus the journey appreciate the call.

"Heya person died young, needlessly, because of over training, because warning signs were not heated or even seen, and people have been quick, not the least of which is, will must champ who understands how this all works. Both from a coaching perspective and a media perspective who was quick to say something sort of smart. We criticize the performance, not the performer. That seems to make sense, then went on to criticise stories with anonymous sources, McKay which obviously the the anonymous, Maryland staffer staffers who brought this to light did. So because of a fear of retribution and wanted to make sure that whatever whistle blowing was going on was heard and verified vetted which you know ESPN has has pretty stringent standards for that. So I, it brought out some ugliness at least in. Him in some people willing to to attacked attack the concept of Nana sources. Oh, by the way, will must. Champ has one hundred percent been in anonymous. And I understand, you know, we'll must have worked with DJ Durkan and you know his instinct as it is the coach's instincts in a lot of cases to come to the defense of fellow coaches, whether or not they worked with them or not. There is somewhat of a fraternity situation in that world. You see, like when an NBA coach gets fired, Gregg, Popovich will say something like, you know, it's always the coach's fault. He's not the one out there, shoot threes and missing, you know. But it did strike me as very easy for will must sham to have a human reaction to say, what happened was tragic. If these allegations are true. I, you know, I really disappointed the DJ Durkan I know is not somebody who would be involved in something like that. So I'm hoping for the best for him and the program, even though it's, you know, a little bit generic whatever you have to as a person in responsibility position. Position, you have to be able to say things like a grownup. And that's the disappointing thing that we have. These people that are tasked with being grownups, and there's just a failure to do that. Jordan McNair should be alive and should be live for another sixty seventy years. He's gone. And so we've got a couple of questions in our a. that are more serious things. Like, how do you root for Maryland? If you're Maryland, famine, given the allegations and my first thought, like, how do you refer South Carolina now that your coaches, you know, been in idiot about the whole thing. The players don't have really anything to do with like tie Johnson has nothing to do with the alleged atrocities at Maryland and whoever it is, you know, I just I want the Maryland players to succeed in spite of the crappy thing. So it's a very strange situation and hopefully everywhere. You know, as we've had these strengthen this conditioning stuff over the past few years at school, I love university of Oregon last year with the RAB dough, Iowa. A couple years ago at the RAB DOE, whatever these things keep popping up. Hopefully there's more oversights. There's a, there's a better understanding. There's better training. There's better indicators for when players are struggling, how to deal with situations in football, tough. You know, to sort of craft really good football players. You have to instill a certain amount of toughness in stamina in them, and the guys that are tasked with doing this need to be able to know lines and that I think is a problem. All right. Well, we'll see what comes this. Dan. The answer's no doubt more coming. We heard from Maryland within the last couple of days about these status of its strength coach, and my guess is that will be hearing more. We'll do our best to try and keep everyone up to date with what's going on, at least as best we can here on the podcast as for the rest of the content. Tonight we are doing a mega QNA show Dan and by. Mega idea mean mega regulation. Ariza's. You've got mail. You've got mail on the solid verbal. So what we've been trying to do all off season is one of these shows per month..

"Country where the instructors basically tell you to push yourself pasture limits and i don't know if either of you or any listeners have ever taken one of these classes but basically you're in this like dark room and all these like people around you are really pushing themselves in your instructors telling you to push yourself in so what other kind of like peer pressure choice to you have to push yourself pasture limit it's ridiculous it's not a good way to work yourself up to get good cardiovascular endurance took exactly one spend class in college because a friend peer pressure into exactly i don't know if you like paying more power to you but boy did i hate every single like exercise i finally mark stores i like but boy i hate it spinning well i feel like cross it gets a really bad wrap when it comes to wrap doubt and like i have i have my issues with profit but i've been thinking about like why don't i hear about spin glasses giving people rab dough after reading your piece claire and i think it's because like cross fit like took the initiative to start putting up posters being like fear the rab doh don't get rab does how people assume that everybody who who's getting wrapped i was doing cross it but i think that they just kind of took the initiative to to realize that they were really setting themselves up for some kidney failure were that's interesting 'cause i feel like spinning and cross it and let's be honest most of the other like fat exercise things share that like cross it was found by people who knew what they were doing and if you're if you belong to a gym where they know what they're doing like it should be a a reasonably like safe place to do where they should not be telling you push yourself so hard to get round this week about high intensity interval training four lifting which is just lifting heavy yeah which a lot of people are already assume is the best way to you know make gains get those game in this game bro but the thing that i thought was a really important takeaway there is that as is the case with high intensity interval training for cardio like yes it seems like you can get a lot of the same benefits as working out longer if you go more intense for shorter period but it's still really important to build up what your peak performance level is just because lifting heavy can be a really good idea it doesn't mean you should suddenly be like all right like how much can i dead lift literally once and like fall over afterwards and feel like i'm gonna die that's not what you're supposed to be doing because also like high intensity is high intensity for you personally so like if you're going from not exercising like should not be at the level that someone who's been doing it for years is so it is it is high for you intensity yeah that feels slow to you it's okay your first time lifting heavy might be lifting five pounds that's heavy for you great doing high intensity interval train inning many people when they begin doing lifting things cannot lift the bar and that is okay you should not be lifting the bar if it's too heavy for you if you robbed oh exactly such a good slogan like anti rabbit oh and the scary part about rap dough and like it's like not as intense disease which is just like don's which is delayed onset muscle soreness symptoms don't occur till next day and so it's like you can't know until the next day you're going to get it so you should just be careful now so if you went to spin class in your real real sore today checkout pops dot com yeah don't think wrapped up check your rabb doe until proven otherwise i was shoveling during a snowstorm this past winter i was by myself.

"Back all right we now have something in common with north korea this could upset a lot of people but i want you to listen carefully to what i say kim jong un is planning a grand military parade said to kick off tomorrow and as confirmed by the white house yesterday plans are in motion for our own version of a large spectacle military show complete with tanks and everything else my question is this who we are a lot of people will argue yeah we've done this before long have we we are not a country that emulates the actions of communist dictatorships that's not who we are now this has nothing to do with respect for the military we all respect the military everybody who is the conservative and if you ever listen to this show for half a second you know how much we've done for the military and how we feel about the military let me remind you about the rally for america that is not the purpose of this military parade north korea the soviets and any other nation that does these things democratic or not is not trying to show their admiration for the men and women in uniform they are only projecting power and in the case of france if he wants to wolf rabs does it france tested do a parade like this once a year just to make sure that tanks still start so let's make it clear there is a harry huge difference between a veterans day parade or a memorial day parade and a military demonstration of might you ask anybody in the military they do not want that kind of tribute with all of the amounts of money you know what it takes the last time we did something like this was at the end of a war don't tell me why we defined do we do we we we defeated isis have we we have certainly won this battle but we have not won the.
