"You to care whenever you need it like video chatting with the doctor right from your phone so I don't need stitches just put some outta cream on it thank you Dr United Healthcare Health plan benefits may vary welcome to RJ bells dream review weekly winners from his is Guy Roundtable broadcasting from the pregame.com studios in Las Vegas here is rj bell that's right six. NFL Football Preview we've got a full wiseguy roundtable do my left defending champion when it comes to the green button an amazingly leading the green button and the NFL this year sample size Brad powers to my right Oh he won the super contest twice Steve Fabric I'm Rj bow hey guys we have been dig it in and listen let's congratulate ourselves sixty percent last week three and two I call it Sunday and Monday and I feel really good because one in four was tough and let's be candid we were off I'm always feel good when we get those three who's if we're off on a couple of games right so and we lost that bears game I think we should have known there was just too many people John and quite frankly we gotta plain wrong maybe at the end the pod even though they gotta buy we should talk about what we got wrong there because I think it's important to be held animal speaking of that you guys or at least a minority of you you need how account listen if you don't WanNa you don't Wanna be called it a first off you're not responsible for this kind of crap hola feel free it's going to be you know quick and painless for you but for those that are like I mean I saw the idiots that are like these guys aren't winning Oh okay okay so it's now seventeen twenty one weeks so last year this year even we're counting the weeks last year at the end that we were the last two we went matter and it was more about winning the contest than anything right and we told people don't bat us right because we're doing this Madda that were even count that we plus five weeks out of twenty let me think about it's been five weeks show it's only five weeks out of twenty five then right so all let's say it was seventeen in and five right so we got twenty two and we've lost four of those weeks so eighteen winning weeks four losing weeks right here in front of you and we have some idiots talking about oh the sixty percent week wasn't good enough right now now even worse or those those sleigh full have the pillbox on Wednesday walk Glam to have the same free competitor days later no matter what come on you're not that stupid are you last season five games we changed this season I think it was three already do you think we're just what not giving you the picks that are good some are holding them back yeah we got like a half million people listening we figure yeah let's give them the bad picks now is life things change this new wants we're we put five thousand dollars to go against literally the best handicappers in the world and I would make the following case I haven't thought of this who has a better record over two years I doubt anyone does I mean it could be but any of the couple people were up there with his last year I wonder if he use the same name but I let you say there's no one is more than a game or two up on this it's almost an impossibility so literally you're listening to a run and again we what did we tell you beginning the year is we said are over under was like fifty five and a half percent right we're at sixty that's called break even his fifty two point five let's do this fifty two point three eight fifty two point five for simplicity so fifty let's call fifty five and a half three percentage points over break even minus one ten right we are seven and a half percentage points above it at sixty percent so we're like more than double over what we expected to be small sample but who in the office complaining so here's what I'm GonNa do for you one time offer Brad didn't want me off his a one time offer if you don't like what's happening you get one hundred percent cash refund on what you paid zero point zero and oh by the way how about anyone that's said that quit listening right now somehow I think our I don't know three hundred ninety nine thousand nine hundred ninety nine people were gonna be gist fine so I think it is I think was fake Zik was just so ruthless yesterday he kind of made me feel a little ruthless if listen if you guys don't listen to the college part hi college who cares right but if you even like Hajjah little listen to the college pod fake fantastic who fazekas overlord and and how would you describe I think is it fair to say it's Fezzet with the W- his bad qualities double is bad and no at least doubled as bad without any of the good ones too just I mean that's scary size I mean he's egotistical he's condescending he has a weird voice I mean I'm sure at some point he'll show on the NFL pod we do it every week now one more time guys this is our best guess right now is who we liked the best if we like someone else better on Friday guess what we're GonNa play them but here's what I can guarantee you is every game we give the best bet we've either bad at not the only distinction would be if the line in the super contest is advantageous we might have is the best bat we can't get in the market we wouldn't have the bat now necessarily but fads your best bat we've talked about this one the market sweet right now now you're probably be betting all the way up you know different spots whatever the advanced crap you do I don't even understand and that's true with the derivatives and stuff I mean as brilliant as they come why don't you throw what to dimes just only have it out and tweet it out tomorrow on your best bat and we'll go from there absolutely accept all the haters already not listening anymore so they're waiting for the refund so I'm GonNa go to nice mode but you're still tweeted out I will at Faz Exports Ficci K will be by let's call it noon Pacific tomorrow easy before that fabric best bat Monday night football like Green Bay packers minus four against Detroit this is an easy handicap here Green Bay their home field advantage being worth four points what does this line saying it saying that Detroit and Green Bay are equal teams and then add four for home field that is ludicrous to me in my rankings of these teams I have green bay three and a half points better than Detroit so my power ratings make this a pure seven one and a half this is extremely extremely rare that my power ratings are so far different from the Vegas Line but because of that huge disparity I absolutely have to make a big bet on Green Bay I gotta be honest with you here's one of my basic tenants if I can explain the line varity I'm comfortable you know some some we'll call it intellectually challenged people said Oh look I watched this I watched it all the they look so good but if anything you would think Green Bay would be expensive who had the most marquee win last week Green Bay an indie no I mean indy was a shocker so you give him credit but you almost like this is the team just lost to the raiders right Green Bay's been pretty good the whole season and they just went into Dallas and dominated and it was the big Fox game you know so obviously sunny night is Sunday night but it was eleven point line I mean I didn't see the ratings but and I think indies right in the conversation by the way I double digit Brad you cover this first double digit underdog that one this year because underdog so nice win but I guess we're making a distinction without a difference one of the big wins is we get minimum so why the heck are they cheap I'm scared I don't understand it so I'm scared I don't understand it as well but one thing about Leslie with like a lobotomize patient go into the into the void tat not true I'd be a lot more scared if the game was about to kick off on Monday night and line was sitting at four it's earlier in the week and Mike Experience has been lines that I sense that I spot that are offering the week I get in good bets and then they moved away I expect them to move you got a strong history with that like literally seventy percent we're taping here about five thirty at the pregame.com studios rose on Wednesday so we'll see when everyone's listening where the lines your battening early and we'll go from there brad think of this pay I like Green Bay in this one and I two five likes it is one of my five likes and I don't quite understand the line moved here and I get it Detroit spending overachieved ever so far this season they're sitting here to one but every single one of their games has kind of been a coin flip game all of them decided by four points or less so certainly points against the spreader again four points just straight up against the spread so I'm in kind of Coin Flip Games here yeah Detroit easily could be foreign all with impressive wins against the city they already got one against Philadelphia or the team easily could be one in three sitting here if the ball then bounce their way in a couple of games the chargers game which you like the so but my question is whatever the line is doesn't like one ball bouncing one way that critics swung the result doesn't change how good the team is and the case I would make is Fez where do you have Detroit get a right here. Rj Detroit number nineteen that is cou cou I mean it's like you're telling me Detroit at below average team so here's the thing you make a living by saying disagree with the market I'm GonNa lay one town against the world takes balls gotTa have a reason what's your reason here is that you think you think Green Bay's better than the market or do you think that you are down on Detroit I am down Detroit and the reason I'm down on Detroit's to see civic games they got to play against the chargers and then the eagles to good teams both of those teams came in with serious injury issues and if you look at the final scores in those games Detroit did win both of them Kudos to them but having watched the Games are really felt that Detroit was fortunate to win those games Ashley the charger game and I feel that the market hold on saying you say especially the charge so how were they fortunate to win the Philly game they got a kickoff return to start the game Liane to get an extra seven points if not for that I really think they probably would have covered but now on the game in case they were exceeded expectations if you take away with one of their big place yes now do we take away when phillies big plays I did not because I didn't see a Philly fluke hundred yard kickoff take off returns or flukes the most part yes so how do you have a list of what's flukes and what's not because it it does seem to vary like is all kick returns like what happens if it goes out to the fifty do you dismiss how would he do in case well that would be fluky but not a significant so how do you handle it well you should make ideally you'd go through and identify every single one of those plays so do you have that sheet I do not is it in the archives it is not so you're saying now did you watch the entire game or did you watch the Rewi Watch the rewind both those games yes okay so you saw how long's the rewind explained see that's dangerous is because did you have an opinion on that game I do not recall I know I had a big bet on Detroit's right against the chargers to yes yeah but I was asking about the fairly no I did not all right so that's good because I think if you lose a bat and.

"It is a beautiful day at the podcast trade studios in midtown. I'm Jerry stays. And this is a conversation edition of your daily Detroit for Thursday may sixteenth twenty nineteen off today. But in studio to join me is RJ king. You may know him as an award winning journalist, and the editor of de business magazine. But he's also the author of a new book about Detroit's history, Detroit engine of America. And that's what we're going to talk about today afterward from today's show sponsor daily Detroit is brought to you in part by Milo Milo is a marketing agency that produces amazing experiences for audiences. They partner with their clients drive, business and create innovative content. Do cool stuff with them at Milo DOD agency. Freud started off as a frontier town and the history of the area has always fascinated me even our logo daily Detroit is nod Detroit's history, including references to the French founders the English, and of course, the United States today, so RJ Detroit has that long history. And it's a city that's older than than the United States is I understand. It's in a unique group. Right. Correct. It was founded by the French in seventeen o one. So the first chapter of my book covers of the timeframe of sixteen hundred eighteen hundred talks about the force superpowers of Europe, which were France. Spain English and the Dutch and how the English and the Dutch settled the east coast Spanish went down to Florida West Indies Kouba. And then the French came up the Saint Lawrence and founded Quebec Montreal. And then Detroit seventeen o one and then went into Ohio and Kentucky. And that was all called new France. And that was kind of a buffer to keep the English the Dutch from expanding too far westward. So we were pretty far on the map back in those days, what drew. The attention of superpowers and explorers to come here of all places. While trade routes. I they were looking for silver and gold, which the wasn't a lot of I mean, you think about how difficult it is to mint coin. They actually had playing cards that they cut into four pieces and had a stamp of the Florida lease on there for a payment to the soldiers, but it was open up these trade, routes and early sixteen hundreds king Luda thirteenth. The he was thirteen years old. He done the beaver pelt hat, and created a fashion craze in Europe. And they came over to the new world, especially the French in started the beaver, pelt trade in animal hides in their very warm and durable. As we all know and was a different era back then in the ships to step kept coming and coming and coming, you know, Cadillac who founded Detroit with the patronage of company train, who is the minister of trade for France. Really saw an opportunity to, to grow this fort not into. Garrison, but a city in establish this French outpost here in was so successful that the merchants in Quebec and Montreal were very, very jealous of him because those two merchant groups Quebec, Montreal, they would trade with the native Americans. Essentially Cadillac hired them, then he was undercutting their prices. And so there's a whole battle that went back and forth between them in a competitive level. But that's really what started it in the first population for citizens or the settlers, if he will, you know, survived on fishing farming and hunting with the help of native American tribes. Some friendly, some were not and then the seventeenth fifties, we got into shipbuilding, and then we got into hurts, which is a small wood, burning a stove but not something you would cook on in the middle of room with a pipe gone up ceiling, and then we got into building, locomotives and thousands and thousands and thousands of railcars, actual stoves, those elaborates, does that you would see in the eighteen hundreds you think about the garland stove that, that used to be up at the state fair. That's harken back to that part of our history. Right. Sure. Sure. That was Michigan stove company, which was Jefferson and right at the entrance to isle in what was going on. There was at that time around. Eighteen forty eighteen fifty upstate New York was the stove capital of the world. But when the canal opened eighteen twenty five that got you pretty quickly to the eastern edge of Lake Ontario. And then you would just take a boat all the way to Detroit, Detroit was really the only place to go in those days that was established it had been head to be self sufficient because before the canal, really took a lot of work to get here in terms of porta gene land rivers and lakes. So to this day, I think Detroit is still very, very self sufficient, we can build anything here. And it goes back to that, that history of Detroit. Yes, eighteen fifties. We got into marine engines really big, and then that set you up for the auto motive industry, which I started in eighteen ninety six when Charles Brady king put together, the first automobile that he told up and down late at night on a week night and trailing him on a bicycle was the young Henry Ford. And that was his mentor. So Henry Ford squad recycle
