"A lot of family guys into league zubin. He's paying attention. He's family leave one thing. I wanted to mention jay. This is a stat. That's going a little bit under the radar. Very famously tom. Brady's obviously playing in his ten super bowl. He obviously looked up to joe. Montana's a kid. Montana foreign in the super bowl with no picks. I understand. it's four. No it's the super bowl. it's no picks doesn't get any bigger or better than that but how about mahomes three. Afc title games again. Not the superbowl. Three title games no picks on the penultimate biggest stage in football. It's not a stat that he's gonna. Wow you 'cause obviously he's got the super bowl championships. Got the lombardi. But that's one from a collective standpoint to get to the brink of the super bowl a performance like that in every single game goose egg in the columbine means something. I'm just saying that. Comparison a steph curry changing the trajectory of the game. But xuebing you hear that kiss after dark right. There is open. "The trend is very clear. Enrollment in public schools is plummeting Enrollment in private schools soaring in California enrollment time to talk about the trend here. Some public schools you are seeing where enrollment has dropped others, brother private schools say it's holding steady or even dropping a little bit there or going up in some cases. Public school officials are not reporting public school attendance, however, in terms of the numbers, so let's get to the very latest in all of this with RB Aquino, Are we good Morning? Yeah, you're saying that some private schools are not seeing a boom. Others are in California. So tell us the latest what you've heard. Right, so overall, they're seeing a decline. I spoke to Superintendent Lincoln Snyder from the Diocese of Sacramento. And he told me they're Catholic Schools, which includes Vallejo to Lake Tahoe and Sacramento to the Oregon border overall, down by 3.5% in enrollment. But within that bigger picture, there's a lot of variety in this number. So in Solano County, where Romans down 8%, they found it's because many of their families have moved out of state. But in areas like Auburn and Grass Valley, they're seeing a big influx of registrations in Sacramento schools are full, but numbers are down. Holy spirit. Yeah, I think we're 15 or 20 kids down from last year after the school school. We couldn't take another body just because we've arranged our classrooms in a particular way for safety sake. So I mean last year, I would have said full enrollment three 30 in a fairly close to the 3 10 this year at a number of our school's ST Francis Elementary. Downtown is the same way is that we just We've got a lot of interest, but we have been able to enroll more students just because we wouldn't have the physical desk space to do so. Because of the way we're set up in the classrooms for recovery protocols. Snyder also referenced communities like ST Patrick's in South Sac, where enrollment has declined and he worries those families or maybe more affected by the recession because they rely more on service sector or hourly wage positions, and they can't afford Private school tuition anymore. So Aubrey is this also being seen by other independent schools in the state? I reached out to the California Association of Independent Schools, which is an organization made up of more than 200 independent schools. Here in California, Deborah Dowling says they've experienced a greater interest since the start of the pandemic. But overall there also seeing declining enrollment, some family they're actually moving to places where All the more open other states or other countries. This is not very many families, but it's enough that we're seeing overall a 2% drop on by. As I said in other schools, they're seeing increased interest because what the independent school off is able to offer. Is a lot more flexible than what the public schools are able to offer. Dowling also says some independent schools remain closed like public schools, and there are situations where parents aren't willing to pay tuition and fees. If there's no on campus in person component as far as public school enrollment numbers, the official counts are not yet available. But there's plenty of speculation and other anecdotal evidence that the numbers are down and based on my conversations with a variety of education officials Enrollment in school choice is a layered issue, veering from each family community. And then the local school situation. All right over you. Thank you very much. RB Aquino reporting for us this morning. You've got to think in terms of California public school officials, they may not be releasing enrollment numbers. They know darn well, exactly how many kids are showing up, and that's how they get their funding. Yeah, there's a dollar amount attached to each pupil. So yeah, they know and they know where they're losing money. And it's why superintendents of districts are very nervous because they're not going to see the amount of money coming into their particular school, which means budget, cops cuts and possibly layoffs. All right, let's get out to traffic. Now. Brian Nobles standing by.

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara Runs for Six Touchdowns Against Minnesota Vikings
"Same speed the Vikings 52 to 33 on Christmas Day. Courtney Crone and covers the Vikings for ESPN NFL Nation and she joins us Now. Courtney Mike Zimmer is a pretty tough defensive minded coach. What was his reaction to letting Alvin Kamara go off for a NFL record six rushing touchdowns on Friday? Yeah. I mean, he was disappointed. I like his line that you've got to work really hard to give up 52 points. Think sums up Just what he thinks about this defense. He actually called them the worst one he's ever had. And this comes, you know, just a couple months after you said he never had a beat of bad defense ever, and he never anticipated that changing so Hard core reality checks that he knew it before. This point, for sure, But I think just getting the breaks beaten off of you on a daily your playoff hopes officially die. Um, was just the cherry on top for him, or he had no trouble holding back on. What he feels about his defense and that it wasn't you can't blame injuries. You can't blame an experience if you can't tackle. Um so I mean, that was That was what he saw when Alvin Camaro ran for six touchdowns on Christmas Day, and I think it's what everybody else saw. That defense got dragged up and down the field, which has been their Achilles heel all year.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner activated off reserve/COVID-19 list
"Are your news and notes. James conner is off the lists the reserve covid list. He's at buffalo on sunday night. What's your level of confidence in james conner. Jamie isn't number two running back you know. I think we're gonna see the steelers try and get back to running the ball a little bit. Because they struggled in that regard and it's the aspect of their offense that's clearly missing aside from the drops but just in terms of their run game vs their past game. I think they'd like to take some pressure off of ben rothlisberger run the ball a little bit better and the fact that he's back after the last two weeks i'm sure there's gonna be a big boost for that offense so hopefully. It's a strong finish for james conner in this week. He's number back.

"Gaskin jamie. Looks like he's gonna play whereas savant. Ach med. it's not looking quite as good. They're facing cincinnati. So what does this mean for you. If myles gaskin plays and savant is out. I'm not really so much worried about it. If he does play. What myles gaskin if gaskins back. I'm gonna treat him. As the dolphins i hope will as the lead running back there. So if he's back he's a number two running back. I think it should be encouraged to start him in a great matchup against the cincinnati bengals.

The road to 5G: The inevitable growth of infrastructure cost
"Been waiting for five g. The fifth generation of wireless technology for years and the promise of it is great. That will eventually be a hundred times faster than four. G and make technologies like driverless cars and augmented. Reality more sophisticated. But there's still a lot. The incoming biden administration and telecom companies will have to do before we have the five g. We've been promised doug break is director of broadband and spectrum policy at the information technology and innovation foundation. He says there are several different kinds of five g. And we're pretty far off from having the fastest kind from coast to coast. We're still sort of in early days of rolling out this technology and some of the most advanced flavors of five g that has a pretty narrow geographic reach while that's sort of the most advanced and gives you the greatest leap in performance it still relatively limited in where it's available. Those were broad five g that still being pushed out. We'll certainly be better. But it's not as as dramatic improvement as the millimeter wave that they call it the high frequency spectrum. What steps do you think biden and we'll take on infrastructure. I do think that there's a lot of hope a big opportunity for a bipartisan agreement on infrastructure package that includes significant amount of rural broadband funding. You know when you get out into rural areas and it just no longer becomes economical just because of the population density. You have to build up so much more infrastructure to cover a in even smaller population right. It's just you know. Classic market failure where given a tremendous benefits of this technology and all the spillover benefits to the economy and the and really are are sort of competitive industries certainly justified for the us. To be spending a significant amount money to subsidize deployment of both wired and wireless networks into rural areas. There's that needs to be built for five g. to really get off the ground in the us. How do you think the biden administration approach that. I would hope at least a few billion usually. There's a big time lag between the rnd and our rb processes that where you see. Universities kind of develop initial technologies and then that gets you develop and taken over by corporations that want to invest in this area so it makes sense now for us to be investing in the rnd so that we don't feel silly even bringing up the six gb right. We're still in the midst of five g but it's like we do need to be investing in. Rnd to be leading the way in developing the next generation of wireless well on that. know it. In your estimation how much does the federal government need to spend on infrastructure for this to work your if we're talking about rural broadband. There's quite a few numbers that are that are thrown around out there on the low in some of the estimates from the waning days of the obama administration said that it would take about forty billion dollars to get to ninety eight percent coverage with broadband that could easily be upgraded to To stick with the demands well into the future Hundred billion is out there. As as one of the key. Democratic proposals in in legislation has been drafted. And so i think we'd see somewhere between fifty one hundred billion set aside for for rural broadband. That i mean really could do a lot of good to move towards a future where we don't have nearly as bad a divide between rural and urban areas when it comes to connectivity which obviously living through the pandemic has has become critical tool these days. Doug break with the information technology and innovation foundation speaking of six g. Yes companies are already working on it and it's supposed to be even faster than five g. Well let's not get ahead of ourselves

"It's the one I was talking about where Cam Sims Ya gotTA. Field. Goals the DB I mean, this is A. This is a salt. Of football field, you can just see him. Get the sites and accelerate through him I mean. That was not feel good. Ledbetter with his hands and his feet good wash good job getting up to the second like that. Brand Jeff also consistent pass protection was name this game Morgan Moses. Some really positive place for Morgan Moses The first Gibson touchdown run were gets a turn and pen and creates a huge lane. Tremendous, some big-time double teams were share. This did too big place at the thing is, is there some poor negative place? So that. kind of ways on it like. He was a little bit banged up in this game. Wasn't he? I forget when he came out and when he went back in I, you know 'cause that guy sharp came in I think for a little bit. Es, seven plays, he played music. But what I'm talking about here with Moses and you can see banged up I've been really high on when they run zone damn. Without a tight end he's able to stretch the. Well it's a second five. On the first drive. He's trying to stretch the defensive end. And he's attacking hard to the outside shoulder. Smith This is a full on Nolan Ryan. No hitter link. By you by you kid. I, this is what I would say you got to watch film on a lot of these guys. There are a lot of guys that will play contain true contain responsibility sound and there are some that a wild Georgia. deuces wild he goes under that. So that's a film wants situation like Alden Smith is a wildcard player. He does Weird Shit sometimes. There are a couple allowed more pressure than I would like to see. throughout the Game Smith is also. Smith at one point fakes since I'd stunt pauses almost stops than reaccelerate beats him around the edge. Smith interesting, player, to watch. Your. So to me Morgan. Was Asleep last. But throughout this game, I, can find seven plays where you're like. In the in the run game where you're going that's outstanding is just that can find seven plays where you don't know like. There's a toss outside of the right east ducks, his head and he just. Like a bowl with red. Flags. Before we finish up, give me two minutes. No more on Scott Turner's game plan of trying to come out and run the football. Why you think there was a change in it was at the Dallas Defense and they're terrible run defense. GimMe Gimme a minute to two minutes on Scott Turner, and whether or not they were schemed up much better here this week. As I give you that minute you pull up one play. I WanNa talk about this one play, which I think is is a big time play in this game. It is a get exact number is three minutes in a second left in the third quarter if I intend the balls on the twenty five. They're running outside zone with the purpose to get to the ads you say third quarter. Okay that running outside zone with a real purpose to get to the edge. And they're doing a heck of a job really ace really scooping in moving lateral and vertical at the same time. SWEITZER. To An heck of a job posting getting to the second level. Our Guy Cornelius Lucas late for nineteen teams does a good job at least getting outside pushing sheriff gets a Quick Pin Moses up on a great angle mckissick heck of a cut. The. It cuts back inside, but this is more like an outside zone play in to me throughout the game they were much more aware offensive line rise of angles to backers angles to stretch a defensive line backs pushing frontside to get backers to run when backers run great job, not allowing them to fall back side into place and. I thought the difference in Game Plan was the difference in how they ran the football. They found ways to get to the edge. They had three or four tosses in this game, and they had run place where they stretched it to the outside. They haven't done that I actually think it's hysterical that I said my key to the game was that they run to the edge on with you and they did run to the edge. There hasn't been a solid point of we have to get it to the edge. But when you watch how everybody's played them because they haven't got it to the edge backers are falling back into. Place in they're not displacing them from their coverage areas. So give me a great on Scott Turner, 'cause you're break starting to break up before we finish. I think Scott Turner was a B. Plus in this game near you go. I I think they address some of the problems though with what they have going on. I. Don't know. Until. They get it through stretch the field threat if you can get enough big plays. Not a big playoff. It's no they're not They are a move, the chains offense last two weeks against inferior opponents. But we'll see what happens when they come back off the break against a an inferior opponent again, in the New York giants who aren't is terrible as maybe the cowboys were that's for sure tomorrow the defensive film breakdown great job I'll talk to you tomorrow morning see Kevin..

"I duNNo. Like. It's fourth and five fourth and six four whatever and you you know after the third down incompletion, you start walking your offense over towards the sideline you don't. You don't have anybody coming onto the field because once you have somebody coming onto the field now the defense is allowed to make substitutions but you got your quarterback walking off and got maybe other guys just sorta lingering around walk in, and then once they come in with their punt with their punt return unit, you sprint back to the line of scrimmage in either run a play against their special teams unit or you force them to call a timeout. Let me answer that question. Because most times anywhere around midfield when you'd be going forward on fourth and four, they're not taking their defense up the feel it's pumped safe. Okay. What about from your own thirty? Eight Yard Line? You got a number where you know they're gonNA, take their defense the field, right? I, mean if the analytics of watching. Plays playout out. Will change that but if you do that two weeks in a row or if you do that a couple of weeks in one. Team's GONNA make. The adjustment. Look they're gonNA play this little game. Know the last thing. I. Really like about Tempo specially that sprint out of the huddle play. It never shows up on film. Because, they take it from the snap. So all these players coaches watch go now there's. The smart to watch. The actual TV copy especially now because. You can hear every single quarterback cadence. Fun. Would it be right now to watch peyton manning? And he would know he would be making seven million bullcrap calls you hear Omaha Form Four Hundred Times a game he'd be laughing back there because he knows everybody can hear him at on TV acting the doubt you'd think it was great. But they do have someone designated to try to pick that stuff up and understand what they're doing. It's just hard because it's usually a QC QC goes and he's like So coach just so you know they're gonNA sprint out of the huddle by fourteen times a game. I'm trying to look if you hear offering down the field yelling Tempe Tempe. Tempe. Then that means they're going to get to the huddle break it sprint. The coordinators Yup? What's the number count going to be like? What coverage should we check into? We'll be fine with that temple. Temple the. coordinator I promise most of them. They're not watching TV cuts I'm looking they don't have the twenty two from the Monday night game ready. They will later on this afternoon but that that'll be interesting to watch. A very interesting to watch All right. Let's get to your film breakdown. And let's start with the quarterback Kyle Allen from. Sunday. ALL RIGHT SO KYLE ALLEN Ends up fifteen to twenty five, hundred, ninety, four yards right. touchdowns nucleus, right. It seemed like more than that. They, just didn't really. Have a need to push anything in the second half and you know they they. They only had the ball I. Think you know three times in the second half? Right. And so what was it in the first half? Probably hundred sixty of it Hundred yards first half I have the numbers here alone will tell you right now. Yeah I I ap he was nine of fifteen for one hundred, twenty eight yards in two touchdowns in the first half. Right plus he had that really good scramble. Yeah. That's what it was. Nine fifteen hundred and twenty eight yards two touchdowns in the first half. Even. Watching film and felt like you had more than that. Throughout the game with positives too good ball in the flat to mckissick that was out of the quad set the four. Bunch four set. Yet, at first third down I'll. If your offense. Quad writer Quad Left. I don't know. I think you would. This play because you mentioned it a little while ago I just pulled up again it is an interesting to watch 'cause I you don't see that formation that much. No. It's a great way to get three receivers running vertical to clear for flat route. It's three picking routes for the flat. I mean they're not actually they're they're not designated pick routes. But you're getting three pick type routes. Cover that if your defense on. To adjust alignment with your linebackers and understand to widen and then the other thing. Is You'd love teams to be able to pass them that stuff off but that's the first time I've seen a quad sets Dallas hadn't. Brenton practice it all for us this week, right? So it's a good mix except play. Great Ball and a third and six in the Second Dr. Pressured in its face, it's an out route to mckissick. Again, awesome route. We'll talk about that with mckissick, but practioners face off the left side great bond there six convert. Is Great. Avoid of a sack early in the game is run action pass Sweitzer was a pulling guard, Pulls Pretty Flat Alan Somehow Avoids Lawrence and gets out and throws away. That's a good throwaway, right? That's a play that you'd love. You gotTa make not sit there and go take a face right In the face. I thought on a run action pass. Throw to Logan Thomas. He did a heck of a job speeding up the process he had blitz off his right side. Barbara picks it up. It's a secondary blitz. Barbara gets banged around a little bit but steps up his. It's about as quick as I can see him getting it out. Let. He gets that throwing the wheel to Logan Thomas if it were any quicker. got. into. Touch now. But. It's a good job creeping up his process understanding. He's got a guy there in he's just got to get the ball to him somehow. Thought. There was another Logan Thomas on a corner route in Iran action, pass that was pass interference on Jalen Smith. Yeah. My God had a bad game. The balls thrown right at the back of the head of Jalen Smith. I love that ball of from a pass catcher allows me to go up in Avenue Attempt to get that ball. Try to go in Logan almost did catch it. Over the top of Jalen. Smith. But it's also as he's running behind throat right at the back of his head and there's nothing he can do. That quite..

"Isa Pretty Good postseason pitcher after ten regular season starts. Not Thirty like he usually has. Okay. That's a factor. That's why a hundred and sixty two games is the true measure sixty games, his spring training. Would you pulled him the other night? Were you watching that game or not? Were you watching the game Sunday night I wasn't watching the Sunday night game. Okay. 'cause The Sunday night game just presented a really interesting situation that it depends on what conversation the manager had with the pitcher before it. Well, the manager admitted and so did Kershaw that before Kershaw went out for the sixth inning in that game, they agreed that. Kershaw was going to face the first two batters and then he was going to get pulled and he did in his pitch count was at seventy eight going into that inning and his pitch count. When he got pulled was eighty, he got He got the the young kid Ariza arena on one pitch, and he got allow on one pitch, and so he retired seven in a row they had a four. Two lead and he was really pitching the best he had pitched where he struggled early in this game but they stuck with the plan and they pull them and it worked out and they won the game four to two and I know look that the problem with Kershaw here in the postseason is sometimes Roberts's left him in there one or two batters too long witness. What happened when Ren Donen? Soto. When back To back on him in game five last year which came if you recall Tommy after he came in in the previous inning and struck out of meetings and people were going nuts as he came in and relief struck out at a meeting in a big big spot in the sixth inning i. think that was then went to the seventh and got knocked around by Soda Ren Donen and the the incredible the iconic. In the dugout which still to me, if I'd been a baseball fan and not a nets fan, it would have been heartbreaking to watch but it was it was great obviously in the moment but i. I don't know I just like him and I think he's pitched wellness postseason. He's four and one is er as two point nine three. I think in the in the in the the the five starts here in the postseason. And I think they'll win this because if they don't win tonight and Blake Schnell pitched really well in his last outing for Tampa I think Buehler's phenomenal and I think he'll pitch well and the dodgers would win game seven number I think they'll win this. Pulling for the dodgers to win because I mean I know Stan. Kasten. Well, I like him, he's the president and part owner of the dodgers. So I'm pulling for them to win the. Two Thousand Twenty World Series Interim Championship okay. I agree you know I I was I was telling Berries Luga on radio this morning that I think one of the reasons I'm into this and I was into the NBA playoffs you know that but it was different at least the world series is being played were usually is being played in October. You know it's still like turning on a Saturday and Sunday night late October you expect to see the World series, and that's what we've seen, and then I would also add to it in Berry said that there's definitely an atmosphere even though there are only eleven thousand plus. But there are eleven thousand people and the you know the it seems more like a sporting event with people there even though they're completely social distance and it looks more like you know a Tampa Bay, rays home game and in June. But. I don't know looking forward to watching the game tonight, and then if there is a game seven it would be interesting. The the other interesting thing about this series is that Blake Tynan who obviously was here was phenomenal the other night to close out the. I did watch that. I watch the ended game and. Look. Mike Rizzo believed in Blake trying arm from the get-go it just took a long time for him to to. Mentally. deal with the discipline requires to stay focused and use that arm. But Rizzo was a big lake try and fan right from the start. He's got a great arm. You know and he was a good guy so good for him to Kenley Jansen and I said this the Barry today because I was curious as to what he thought I thought Kenley Jansen pitched well in that crazy ninth inning the other night there was a broken bat single and bloop single that basically beat them and then obviously the error on the on the catcher at home plate But I think Dave Roberts may go with trying to close it out if he has to tonight or tomorrow night that would be interesting to see how he goes I don't I don't think he. I think he'll go. And by the way, don't forget I think it was three or four years ago. Micro tried to sign Kenley Jansen as a free writing. I remember that put the Kabosh on the contract. Exactly All right. We're GONNA get to cool film breakdown next to you, and I'll be together on Thursday. Thanks. Okay boss. Happy Thanksgiving everybody. It is a month early but then again, it was ten months early in January. All right. I'll talk to you. Thursday. Tommy will be with me on Thursday coolest film breakdown coming up next right after a word from.

"Can hear the digging I might see some light at the end of the tunnel. I might see a log way way. Faith baby I got very, very optimistic in cheer yesterday's I started considering a lot about this football team. When would you like me to share it with you? Well I mean I. Think I know the road you're going to go down which I still think it requires tunnel vision and the faint sound of being dug out but go ahead well. So. What I? Cooley said something we we talked about it yesterday and the podcast and I talked about it on the radio show yesterday in that is. What was clear to me about Sunday is two things one. They've not quit on their coach, not even close to it. In fact, they're sort of rallying around their coach. In the same way that the colts did around Chuck Pagano back in twenty twelve now he took an extended leave of absence Bruce Arians took over that team and coached it to the playoffs with Andrew Luck as the quarterback. They haven't quit on their coach like as an example. That great Dallas team that huge arch-rival Dallas team they have completely bailed on everybody I mean they are splintering they are fractured. They are doing the Washington thing, the other or of self-destruction team in the division. So number one they have it's clear to me not just Sunday but the last two weeks that they have not quit on their coach that's number one and number two. Is that they made the right decision a quarterback and it wasn't just the right decision. It was the decision that made the rest of the locker rooms say, okay. Our guys about winning. Our Guy is about playing the guys that deserve to play playing the guys that we give us the best chance of winning games. You know for guys like Jon Allen and chase young the young guys that have one. Doron Pain Landon Collins I'm just talking about some of the defensive guys. you know guys mature guys like Brandon share for Morgan Moses on offense just pointing out a couple of people These are the things we've heard from is before that you can't full the players in the locker room and once you start to you lose the team. and. So they haven't bailed on their head coach and they made a decision at quarterback that was the right decision and I don't care about the two opponents I can see that they've been they're not good teams but a-. But if you and I mentioned this Multiple Times yesterday, if you've watched this team the last two weeks in, you don't believe they made the right decision going to Kyle Allen you're either blind or you've got an agenda. Because it's not even close how much more professional the offenses under Kyle Alan and again I don't think he's the quarterback of the future. I don't think he's a franchise quarterback I think they're going to be plenty of of sports talk. Sports fix Tuesday's Sports Talk Sports, fix Tuesdays where we come in here and I've done it the day before talking about how Kyle Alan Geena turned the ball over three times and they lost a game badly team that maybe they shouldn't have lost two I see that coming too. But I also look at the division. Dallas is done in this terrible division they are done. They are headed towards a three or four win season tops. The giants will be done after Monday night. There are ten and a half point underdog to the buccaneers on Monday night, and then they turn around on six days rest like the cowboys did last week and come to Washington no, be one and seven after Monday night it's Washington or Philadelphia in this race those are the two teams in the NFC straight now, it could get to the point where it's just Philadelphia at some point. Okay. But Philadelphia still plays at Cleveland Seattle at Green Bay, the saints, the cardinals, and then they do have to against the cowboys won against the giants won against Washington and you knew how I hate the schedule game I'm just saying that. The coach loves the schedule game. I'm not a big fan of the schedule game, but I'm just saying all things being equal. Philadelphia has a brutal road. Washington's road isn't easy, but it's less brutal and I came to the conclusion yesterday. Through my cheery delusional rose colored glasses. that. Washington's going to be in this thing until the final week at a season where they will travel to Lincoln financial field on January third. To, play the Eagles for the NFC East division title. That's the conclusion I came to now several things could derail that Washington could become the most injured team in the division over the next couple of weeks which they've been the healthiest of the teams in the division, and it could completely derail their season as well but they have a defense, Tommy. They have a quarterback that makes them professional and they have not quit on their head coach and they actually. Believe I think right now in this coaching staff and there were stories that I heard early on that there was some problems with some of the assistant coaches in some of the players I think that's typical of a new staff in a new place you know with a staff doing things their way and players not getting used to it. We saw that with Marty remember in two thousand one how absolutely. Bruce Smith couldn't stand him darryl green couldn't stand him. But the young players did I I. SO anyway great I agree with a lot of what you're saying. But what would that mean? It would mean home playoff game or it would mean a game at the end of the year for a division title. And what would that mean? Well, it's experience playing in games that matter versus being like I said in the column, a playoff game and NFC title has that free you before no. Okay. But what's the alternative would be this? No I get that. That's my point. Your point. This you still have to hope you're going to get dug out in this tunnel, but the reality is there's a lot of debris in front of you. You Know Oh. Yeah. Between your rescuers and you and you're looking for an air pocket right now. Yes. But Tommy all it. Division title isn't all playoff appearances is a slightly bigger air pocket. Slightly bigger. So I mean. Hosts going. On the offense, it's going to be on this team if and when they're good. Well the Kyle and conversation is an interesting one. I'm not ready to have it because I'm not a believer in it but I think they might be a believer in him. I do think that I don't know if they. You know I'm asking you. Name the players on this offense will be there if and when they turn, we'll terry maclaurin Antonio Gibson for sure I hope junior kissing. Logan Thomas could be and you.

Sports fix Tuesday kind of Tommy's here for the first half hour forty minutes then coolly will join us with his offensive film breakdown. I've got a very busy day that I was just describing Tatami and Tommy's reaction was do you think I really care about your day and I said, no, I understand why you don't but I was just sharing it with you. So you understood the urgency of getting started here quickly rather than engaging in small talk, which which often happens before we start the podcast although maybe some of our small talk would be the best thing to put on our podcast. Might, it might let Greece small talk I wanted to give a shout out to a devoted listeners of the podcast Matt from Waldorf who I met on Friday up in Frederick. My wife and I were having lunch out on the. Outside at a at a restaurant and UH downtown. Frederick. And we met and Up, buying US lunch. What? You he bought you lunch. A, my wife and I fear and everything really picked up the whole tab. And the only reason he did he was four five tables away, but he heard my voice. and. Recognize. The waiter comes over and says that gentleman down there is picking up your tab and did you did you go down and then talk to him? Yes I did a very nice guy and you allowed him to pick up your lunch of course i. I you don't have to do that. A couple times, but he insisted he was happy to. I mean I I tried to decline I. said You know you don't have to do that. That'd be to talk to you and how much how much was lunch? What did he picked up? Oh it wasn't much. It was I had a small cow zone and to Baal a Miller lite You know that's A that is awesome. Matt I mean that's very kind of you and he loves how typecast he he loves. He loves you too and he loves everything we do I met would if you had offered I would have been definitely more resistant to allowing you to pick it up. But certainly appreciative of the offer I think I would have given more assistance than Tommy to allowing you to pick it up but that is an incredibly kind gesture in. We're glad you listened to the podcast and of the two on sports fixed Tuesdays and Thursdays. You had the best chance of getting stuck with that TAB with Tommy. Well it's awfully presumptuous of you to think that he would buy you. Well you said, he liked me to. Just trying to be nice. Everyone likes you as far as things go. As far as things go, right? Yeah. That was very nice. I think I just pulled up on your twitter. Time Line the picture of you and Matt is that Matt in that picture with with you and my standing up? Yeah you're standing. On a sidewalk YEP. Talk Yeah. That's it. That's very nice of you and Tommy has a mask covering knows fate and n face and mouth with sunglasses on staring Matt, down from a elevated position. That's very nice I'm glad she got lunch and I'm glad you didn't forget to thank him great So how are you? We have a different conversation about the football team I. believe that we can have today that we really couldn't have last week and I say that understanding who they beat on, Sunday? They beat a team Tommy that was dead coming in and is debtor leaving I mean that's what Washington. Usually is what Dallas is doing right now not only are they bad but they are really coming apart at the seams which you know isn't you know isn't really that upsetting to watch from Another NFC east city. I called at the are of self-destruction Bowl. These are the two teams literally that are built to fail by their owners. I mean and so it's not surprising that the cowboys would replicate. A Washington football team scenario in any given year. And you're right. They were humiliated not just beaten but absolutely humiliated and You know everyone should enjoy it. But like I wrote my call which I'm sure you haven't read I did read I did. You need to enjoy with tunnel vision. Yes. Tunnel very small, very small vision that that you just get a little glimpse and you say, wow, this was crate this not only. Did you win up Dallas? Right, just talk yourself into. Wow, that was a win over your archrival. Cowboys just. Beyond that. Yeah. Just enjoy the moment slum berry. You know what? I can hear the digging Tommy. I can hear the digging I might see some light at the end of the tunnel. I might see a log way way. Faith.

New York Jets Officially Release RB Le'Veon Bell
"All right Levian, bell got released from the jets, which is big for us, which is team don't pay running back also big for us, which is like the jets are the funniest organised eight picked the jets go to the playoffs last year. Let's just talk about that for years in the past last year. Split here's a here's a few. Since the jets hired Adam Gates things. Destroyed Sam darnold confidence and development. Check. Chased a homegrown talent out of town with incompetence in Jamal Adams. Made sure that no free agent will want to sign with them for years to come. Ranked last. In offensive production for two straight. Seasons. And let's just talk about how Adam Gates is. Still there he is still there and wait my favorite thing about it at all. You remember Anthony Barr was signing with someone off season. You remember the whole thing he signed with the jets he took a pay cut. To leave the jets and sign with the Vikings. He literally said no will work for less money as long as I don't have to be there. That's what that says about this jets organization.

The New Backend Engineering Lead at TextUs - Brittany Martin
"By corner of the world is very different and so I think I've kind of alluded to it on some of the episodes we've recorded up to this one but nick, you are my very favorite co host. So of course, I waited until you were back on the podcast so that we could discuss all the changes but I have recently shifted roles. So I quietly changed my linked in quietly changed my twitter and my get hub but I am the new engineering lead for the back end at text us. Congratulations that is that is huge right I don't even know where to begin but. I guess the best place is at the beginning. So how long ago? Did you kind of find your way into the world of Texas yeah. So ask the listeners know I've been at the trust for about five years, which was fantastic because I leveled up. So much of the trust, a lot of my conference talks that I gave came from the work that. I was doing at the trust I loved those working at a nonprofit affecting the arts and the Pittsburgh community because when I came back from San Francisco, I really wanted to get re-involved with Pittsburgh and there was no better place to do it with the trust being a small nonprofit and you know there was only so many places that I could grow up words. I decided to start considering my options, and so I came across Texas and text. US. Basically is a business class text messaging software and they're built in rails, which of course, is very important to me as the host of this show to continue working on ruby on rails. So you know I have bet my career on it. And the Texas currently serves the ASS staffing recruiting industries mainly though they also serve a lot of different industries but it's a really interesting and complex code base and they use a lot of the dry principles, which is that I was somewhat familiar with, but I hadn't worked one on one with. So how about you neck? Have you used a lot of dry rb? So when you dry principles, do you mean like actually using like dry rb and the dry rb tooling and the ghost? Yes heavily on my goodness. So I have literally just wandered so far as hearing about it in a podcast or you know and I and I, think I follow the maintainers on twitter and reading about five never crossed that threshold to actually using it even in a in a toy up. So House have been. kind of seeing that world is imagine it's quite interesting. Yeah. I'm coming off of a code base where we used a lot of service objects. So in some ways, there are some principles there that are somewhat familiar where you don't stack all of your logic into your models and controllers, but dry principles. It's just it's very clean and I'll tell you that during the interview process with Texas, which first of all was a really fantastic. Interview Process and I hope a lot of companies have processes like this it my process probably took I would say about five weeks and that involved a lot of one on one in conversations with their product manager the CTO, their chief architect, my partner, who is the engineering lead for the front end and just really making sure that it was a good culture fit and then I ended up doing a pairing session with the chief architect and. What was neat about it is that we tackled some very rails lia problems, but then as towards the end of the interview. He gave me some examples of how my code could change to actually reflect those dry principles and how that is how they manage the code in code base and I left that interview just ceiling. So intrigued about how I feel that I knew ruby on rails fairly well, but just seeing it in that sense it got me really curious and I was like this is this is. going. To. Be Great for my career. It must be amazing to get another set of eyes because I have to commend you you know. There's A. Strong trend in tech where people you don't hear the five years that often anymore. I don't think you you see is short as eighteen months to I'd say, even three years I'd look at unlinked and say, wow, that was a while. So so it's definitely you know there's all the. Normal aspects of changing changing a job but I think from a code aspect just saying these different ideas you know and. It's like a super learning experience all over again if you're around a bunch of intelligent people working in this code base and and especially with tooling that you may not have used before so must be. An absolute thrill.

"Yes, area skies is still there guys still projects as the starter, but I believe Antonio Gibson will be used as a pass catcher. They did just lose Kelvin Harmon to injury. Jason is moving uncomfortably, shifting back and forth making faces at me. And I have no idea what is happening. Right? Look, you went zero are and if you left a zero rb draft without your boy Antonio Gibson. I would I would be so ashamed of you and I wanted T I was hoping for some how you would just miss his name. Resistant and I would draft the heck out of him. There's I mean I wanted him so bad with my next big. So when you were I should have said you know my confidence and drake is probably sixty percents sixty percents. It's really going to be the chase edmunds show. Oh, well now now I feel like I'm being pressured even more into the Antonio Gibson. Pick which is delightful, so I will just take him. I don't blame you there. I mean he look. He's two hundred and twenty plus pound back. That's you know a sub. Four four guy who was a converted wide receiver to running back who was a third round pick with a nebulous running back situation. Does that sound like David David Johnson? It's like all the way across the board. Is David Johnson and so while David Johnson had far far far more production in college and more film that you could look at and be confident in. The film that you do have on Gibson. Does remind you of of David Johnson so if he gets the Roy, I mean this late night draft. That's what you're going for so especially with zero R B team. Come me, yeah, and then an insane running back run happened in between my two picks I see. Four picks that were not a running back so anyone you can think of. They were probably just drafted as we are at the end, which is fine because. What I was looking at. If I had not taken Antonio Gibson before Jason had to give me in the the final. Shove the make sure that he made it onto my team which I'm glad because at this point with that running back run. Gibson would not have made it back. And then my heart would have been shattered into a million pieces, but I was considering grabbing a wide receiver. In its I was looking at to Sean. Jackson, who I think is still projecting as the number one wide receiver, for Philadelphia More and more news of Alshon Jeffery, maybe starting on the pop the talk. Jalen rigor is going to be to Sean Jackson's backup until the. Until. He proves that he can get onto the field so a lot of. A lot of buzz that D- Jax a could still be the number one wide receiver for Philadelphia so I'm GonNa. Take him that fills out my roster aside from defense, so I have Kyla Murray marking grow rain, Mustard Michael Thomas Dj more George cadle DJ, Char? Going wide receiver heavy worked out because those are all those three guys. Those are all top twelve wide receivers for me, and then I got George kiddle in that mix as well so if I can find a running back or my feel great about the scene, but Damien Williams Ronald Jones Golden Tate to Sean Jackson Antonio. Gibson are my bench Jason. Your final positional pick who you take it. So when I look at my final positional pick there are a handful of guys I think are okay. Justin Jackson has not gotten. His name mentioned hardly at all. He's interesting. In in part of the running back run was Joshua Kelly fourth round rookie for the chargers. Who Look he's a much bigger guy. If you're just doing the the simple projecting, then it seems like Josh Kelley. Should be on the field. He could maybe get goal line work. But at the same time he still was a fourth round, running back and the hit rate on players taken or running backs taking that late. It is very low. Yeah, There's also AJ Dylan's second round pick. Who could get the goal line work for Green Bay share you know, and and a couple other options Chris Thompson running back who? Should get You know the the passing work and of course. Go ahead is out there. A Wide Receiver Preston will. How did it feel coming off? The tongue felt stupid. It felt it felt dumb and stupid. And so here I've got a press Williams I. Like but I've Got Kosinski. some other wide receivers take a DJ without a doubt. He was the highest value on the board and I'm going to do this. Because I do this often in dress when I get to my last positional pick and I and all the guys that I was really targeting you know Gibson Dj the in those handful guys that I want to grab when they're all gone. I'm GonNa Pivot and I'M GONNA take. The best defense available the second the early right because it forces other people pretty much. Every player I just named. For me, but I got the ravens who you know, the the addition of collapse Campbell, I think. Will Their Defense so? I'm looking here between AJ? And Preston Williams. Maye Preston Williams believer I don't know that I. WanNa Stack in with Kazuki. But, if I don't take him here, I don't know the press will ever be drafted because you and Andy are not. As as high on pressing William so I'm going to draft him because it's my team. I get to do I won't. Read off! Your team drew all right, so my team at quarterback Carson Wentz at running back I've got zeke Elliott Clyde. Edwards Layer David. Johnson Alexander Madison. At wide receiver. We've got Tyler Lockett. Terry maclaurin, Michael Gallup Marvin Jones Jerry Judy and Preston. Williams with Mike Sickie at tight end and the Baltimore Ravens at. Defense I grab Kansas City because I. don't Really Care Right now. What what defense I grabbed in this mock draft, but that is going to do it for our Saturday's show. Hope you glean.

"Mock draft time we. J. Grizz out because we knew he was just going to go all bears, yeah, he. He has his own built in strategy. It's not recommended. To go all Chicago bears, but as I said at the top of the show, this is a different mock draft. We are picking a strategy and we are going with it. Jason again will be heavy. I'm going with A. More a zero RV approach Jason is at the three spot. I am at the four spot. So far, we got Chris McCaffrey saquon Barkley off the board. A per usual as you would think so, Jay, you're on the board for you going. I think it's pretty obvious to anybody out there. It's going to be Zeke. you know the top three picks are almost always those three guys that goes Christian McCaffrey Saquon Zeke usually in that order You have the added hopeful safety of You know Zeke already having gone through covert, so maybe that'll be good going forward, maybe man. Not. Dr No science, but every advantage possible. You GotTa look deep. You gotTA. Look I guess who's the coach's eye. What's? What what is his antibody level? You know what I mean like. You got to dive deep on this stuff, but it's a no brainer and I love that. We're back to back because we're trying these two different strategies it's not like one of us is near the top of the draft. One of us is near the back of the draft, and you're comparing apples to oranges. These are teams that you'll get right around the same spot of the draft and win your mock drafting. We would not hold to a rigid standard this a real draft, but when you're mock drafting, try some of these strategies that you might not. Think to do live and see if you like your team better so I'm on the clock. Get the choice of my number. One Wide Receiver I'M GONNA go with Michael Thomas He. He just he feels like the the safest possible wide receiver, the one whose range of outcomes I if if he busts soda speak, he still going to be. A wide receiver one his. You know, historically, we don't see people. Repeat at the number one position very often, but he's just he's so safe. With drew brees back after that we had another Saint Alvin Kamara Davante. Adams Nick Chubb Dalvin Cook Okay Donovan Cook when at the One? Oh, eight! Jason is laughing! Draft Sucks keep going. Okay. And then so devon went one way Derrick Henry with his new big bag of money. You Win at the one. Oh nine Joe Mix, and so we had a pretty heavy rb run. Their tyreek Hill Patrick Mahomes Patrick mahomes look. He snuck into the first round on this draft. Then second round started. deandre Hopkins Josh Jacobs Lamar Jackson. Aaron Jones Julio Jones. So really no surprises so far I guess except that Patrick Mahomes jumped up into the first round Mile Sanders Travis Kelsey Kenyan drake. I'm a little bit bummed here that Travis Kelsey went. He was going to be my target for around two with this approach. I want a positional advantage. Travis Kelsey provides one George, kill I believe also provides that same. Positional, advantage for tight ends and honestly George Keto could finish as the number. One tight end sounds like you should take George Kill. Well, I WANNA walk through the wider songs. So! Chris Godwin Kenny Golladay. Allen Robinson Mike Evans. These are the type of wide receivers who are still there. I like Chris Godwin allots he is I still having you know in that that second tier of wide receivers I know there is definitely risk with Tom Brady coming in with change, overall so I'm between Chris Godwin and George Kit Right now, I. I'm going to go kill. Though because there's still a lot of wide receivers who are. Excellent players, but the positional advantage of tight end I can't pass up on Capitol here in the second. And, this is why you want to stay water. My friends because if this was my team. Here's here's the targets that I'd be looking for to start running back heavy from the three spot renegades Zeke I'm super stoked about that. If I can get Kenyan drake or mile, sanders, guys who just went to picks ahead I would be thrilled as the board lays out right now. I would without a shred of doubt. Take Chris Godwin in my normal draft. He's my number seven wide receiver overall. I'm not as high on say Austin Ecuador Echlert and Clyde Edwards Allaire as A lot of other people are, and those would be kind of the highest running backs on the board so when I look at this draft and I know because I'm sticking to this running back heavy approach. I want to see what. What kind of a team I can build out to why we're doing this practice. We talked a lot. I believe on a previous episode through the Kansas. City chiefs about if you're going to go after a Clyde Edwards Allaire which you have to take in the second rounds too high for my normal price I would only do that if I'm going the triple running back approach where the next round I might get someone like Todd Gurley, or you know a David Johnson someone that I think can. Help out while we wait for Edwards Allaire to get the lion share of the draft, so I'm going to draft for the first time this year Clyde Edwards Allaire. And you're right by the turns so not very many players went. Between your your to pick, so you took a layer. Godwin Beckham Cantagalo. Golladay so that was a pretty good run for you in Austin actor so only one other running back went off the board if you were able to start a draft with Zeke. Edwards Allaire Austin. That would have been pretty sensational for me and my rankings, and my belief in those two players. But who are you looking at now with this running back three? This is the. Age Old question that is only this year old which is the? Elder statesmen right? This is the time when you're at the Todd Gurley Melvin Gordon David. Johnson Love Bell. You know the. The beginning of the third round all those guys are available and I I have shifted onto which player I like better and worse, ADP wise the the the the lowest rank of those of that group David Johnson, but he's actually my highest ranked running back of that group because I'm near a turn and I'm at the end of the turn, so it's GonNa be a lot of time before. Anybody comes back to me..

"Night on. Espn episode one. Debuts at nine eastern followed immediately by episode two there were a total of ten you will see them over the course of the next five Sundays here on. Espn back to the NFL. Dan Grazziano insider. Let's run the hurry. Aku Do you expect to be the second quarterback off the board of the draft next week? Greeny at this point if I had to put my own money on it. I think I would go with Justin. Herbert of Oregon. Not because teams think. He's a better player than to a tongue by law because there are definitely teams that believe tours injury history bodes ill for his ability to stay healthy and last a long time in the NFL. And if those teams include the Miami Dolphins and the La chargers. I think Justin Herbert moves up the boards. Behead of to you mel on the same. Page there next raiders. General Manager. Mike Mayock did a conference call yesterday. What do you say stood out to me was when may I said we feel really good about our quarterback situations spoke very highly of Derek. Carr said they're very excited about Marcus. Mariota in the building. Get him healthy. Help him get his career back on. Its feet you know. They don't have anything owed guaranteed. Derek Carr after this year or tomorrow so some teams take some people around the League think they might be a team. Takes a quarterback in the first round. Mayock certainly didn't make it sound that way. All right and then finally Christian McCaffrey the largest running back deal ever this week. What does that do the market? What will see? I don't know that it will do much McCaffrey. And exceptional player coming off a season where he had two thousand rushing yards and a thousand receiving yards. You look at the other backs that are looking for contract extensions..

"Get to know the playmakers of twenty twenty chances are they'll be instinct contributors for your team soon. The points of the death of this class. Fifteen of these receivers have grade from scouting of seventy or higher that signifies a likely third rounder and that amount greedy would be the most the second most. Excuse me in scouting's database all time so it really is such a deep class. I think that adds the fact that you're going to see some stars at the top five or six guys that are going to be taken very early. But there's a lot of depth throughout this class for for your money. Who's going to be the first one off the board? Because we're here OECD. Lamb we hear about the Alabama guys. Jerry Judy who do you think is the first one to go off the board? I'm going to say Jerry Judy. Just because I think it fits more with the need of the teams that may be there to pick receivers but it's really a toss up between CD lamb. Jerry Judy I mean look. Cd LAMB is a guy that you know has de'andre type skill sets to him. He's somebody that has that type of yards after the catch toughness and then Jerry. Judy has some Odell Beckham junior to him. And you know may need to be worked on a little bit from the catching and the hand standpoint that the route running is unbelievable already. Ob J. level. Right now I want to ask you about something else because we're going through some numbers and if you look back over the period of time basically the last twenty years of first round picks you look at how many what percentage of the guys who drafted in the first round by their team wind up signing a second contract with their team and by a wide margin the lowest is receivers to be clear. And what I'm saying of. All the position groups quarterbacks linemen linebackers the ones that by a wide margin wind up signing a second contract with their team fewest are wide receivers. Why do you think that is well? I think because they're so context. Dependent are so dependent on a good quarterback and a good office of line. And sometimes I think you could get lulled into believing a receiver is better than he is because he's in a system in college or he has a quarterback in college who takes care of him or he goes into the NFL and Lana system with a quarterback. That's not so good or online. That can protect that quarterback. I think because you you can't just hand him the ball like you would a running back and you can't just throw the ball like you would be a quarterback. You're there was so much more reliant on so many other people to make sure they succeed is sometimes you can have a tough time grading their performance in college because of that and their performance it. Nfl could lag the performance in college because they might end up in a bad situation. It's a fascinating thing to me. By the way overwhelmingly offensive lineman wind up with the highest percentage of teams that That wind up signing a second contract if their first round picks. But Laura do these guys that the guys at the top of this as we've seen the the NFL game sort of evolve over the used or they play an offenses that are similar to what they will see on Sundays. Yeah I was just going to say it's a great point that you bring up Greenie. I expect to see that number for wide receivers change just because we've seen a lot of the college game head to the NFL. And I think when you see more of these speed in space offenses that you'll see a lot of these guys continue to play in. That's only gonNa work well for them going forward. You know some people have said we'll see the land played in the big twelve and the ad a ton of separation all the time against defenders to to make the catch is that he did but look I mean. He created the separation. It wasn't always that CD land played in the College Football playoff. It did have despite Oklahoma's numbers in the playoff did have some success against big time defenses. So I think when you look at this overall we're going to see a shift in more receivers especially this class having success long term in the NFL. Maybe signing some of those second deals a little more than we've seen in the past. I'm old enough to remember when you didn't want to take a quarterback out of the big twelve. Now now they're the number one every year and a guy named Patrick. Mahomes is doing okay as well. All right stay with me here because with this deep nfl draft wide receiver. We'll get Mel Kiper as we continue and he'll tell you what he thinks of. All of these is plus more thoughts. Don't Miss Mel. Who will join US coming up in just a few minutes and with this.

"I mean he's probably pretty still imaginative even now that he's in his sixties sixty so it's funny how we will sort of equate being thirty thirty one years old imaginative right but i do think it's interesting interesting to see what he does with the offense. I think <hes> while scotland hand probably got more blame any deserved for the failure of the franchise at the end of the season since the defense. I've seen <hes> <hes> as responsible at least as the offense did for a loss in a to the rams in l._a. That ended their season. I i do think it'll be interesting to to see if <hes> you know if john fitna with his emphasis on proper mechanics can make dacca more effective passer with his with his coaching <hes> approach and whether <hes> kellen moore can use all of this talent that they've assembled <hes> in a way that's much more effective effective than we've seen any time recently knowing full well that he's a descendant of lenihan and that jason garrett ultimately as head coach and in control but remember the most telling telling thing this off season from jerry jones to me was when he said basically publicly said the kitchen a- and killing more if if your ideas are not being implemented come see me like don't let the head coach prevent you from doing what it is. We need to be doing with the offense offense offensive talent that they have and i think <hes> you know i i was thinking i was sitting in front data today. Think of the team that they have now on offense versus what they went into the last season and you can understand why there's so much enthusiasm eternally and the expectations internally are so high for this football. I think if deck doesn't have his new new deal against the giants he will be checking out of most of the run plays to try to patent his stats and drive up his number so just look for that ed on on on a sunday afternoon dak ever seen a quarterback in franchise history. Who's done it. No no. It's never happened. Oh man it's gonna be interesting. It's gonna be fascinating to watch only the cowboys. I mean i i would say now. Maybe we're biased because we're here in the middle of us but in my mind and this this story was the story of of the preseason antonio brown jumped up there but the cowboys they control the news cycle go for much of the preseason i would say of the five or six weeks that have <hes> you know it starting at july twenty fifth or twenty six whenever they opened up camp the the cowboys and then brown antonio brown but i mean those two stories have pretty much do in an andrew luck was enormous when that happened but for you know the cowboys have control a lot of the cycle yeah yeah i mean. I think i tweeted this yesterday. I said you know it's forty eight hours before the n._f._l. Oh kicks off its one hundred season with the two most traditional <hes> powers in in all the football the bears and the packers and the packers have aaron rodgers and we're leading leading sportscenter with ezekiel elliott and he doesn't even have his contract yet so that's kind of power of the brand it is power of the brand the power of the doomsday day brand. I mean this is a big this big time for us ed now i wanted. I wanna give you an opportunity for anything else. You need to get off your chest. Because i know you have filled up. A lot of notepads pads always love it. When you get your ipad out kind of peak over there and see all the things you've crawled out there but i do want to say this. They do play the giants. They have the game sunday afternoon ed. Can you name any of the starting wide receivers for the new york. Giants go sterling shepherd. I think he's hurt. I don't think he's he broke a finger but i think oh he might he might play okay. Startling jeopardy coke good good now. They got saquon. They got saquon. Everybody loaded up on him number. One pick in fantasy and i had the number four overall pick. I went with zeke. Are you backing that e._s._p._n. League or does it come back to late night. We'll be back in only in a mere. Not your own approving nine at one point. I did want to make about the giants that i think it'll be interesting to monitor early in the season season. Is you know this is the first time since he became the giants starting quarterback in twenty fourteen <hes> that that he li- manning's likely successor is on the roster faster and daniel jones do they drafted sixth overall and not coincidentally manning is being forced to play the final year of his contract for the first time it is entire n._f._l. Career that's sixteen seasons and you know we've all her giants general manager dave settling say that jones could sit out you know the whole a year <hes> that there in no rush to play them as impressive as it was during the preseason but this is an interesting fact that <hes> i would close this at least a segment with the giants it's on and maybe it's maybe it's worth the opposing the entire showdown on <hes> but in fourteen of alaska fourteen over the last fifteen quarterbacks taken in the top six have started at least lis ten games as a rookie so that would suggest that by before we get to the middle of the season in all likelihood ally. Manny will not be quarterbacking two new york football longtime. Whoa that is that is something right there. That is that is really ed. That is <hes> that's about as <hes> that's about as interesting as anything you could bring to the table. It is a good way to end it but <hes> daniel jones is at the the kid's name twin. Did you see his <hes> juicy his stat so the preseason was it like twenty nine thirty four something or twenty seven thirty four is unbelievable. People donate one eight twenty nine thirty four. That's eighty five point three percent or one hundred sixteen yards. Two touchdowns no picks. It's still a preseason but it's encouraging to the giants. I am so i think all right well. That is a fascinating. I'm gonna i'm gonna say goodbye. You hear the minute because you have other things to get to and then i gotta. I gotta think our sponsors mybookie back in in so i'll be talking about my bookie. Say hill before you go. Say thank you to thank you my bookie and say thank you to the haju. That's out there in flower mound. I think they live right up there by you but ed you've done great work. I you deserve i i. I you know you don't you don't tweet about like having a drink or anything like that. I know some of the other reporters were like oh. I was supposed to have a cigar to drink tonight but now i have to work boy ed you don't tweet you don't tweet about things like that. You get to work and appreciate all the fine work from you good stuff today today and then ed. Let let everybody know out there. The i did like by the way when you broke some of that news earlier and you and archer had had a bunch of news. You're putting out there early this morning. "Because. I think they see him. As kind of a <hes> an alvin kamara james white type type of player that new england has used so effectively <hes> so i see him getting ten or twelve catch touches in a game anyway and some of that's gonna come outta. Atas zeke's a lot but <hes> but overall. I i would still expect to have a very significant role in the giants game assuming that <hes> you know it's it's a closely contested game aimed quarters and you would have loved it. I during the as i was talking to you on my radio show today. The matt moseley show e._s._p._n. Central texas. I was kind of going back back to the old galloway days. I was writing a column during breaks and i was really hamrin. Some what i you know some quick. It was very quick but i was hammered some stuff out to get it up there for press box d._f._w. Now from what i can tell. I don't know if that's ever been posted today but that's okay. The key is therefore i senate in. I send it into into them. So i try to stay on. I met my obligation. This is gonna be fascinating to see how it all plays it. You said something interesting when you did come on my radio surely or today which we're very grateful for because you right in the middle of all your stuff the <hes> the thing now dak has it opportunity opportunity to kneel he hasn't he hasn't really let anybody see him sweat. He has seemed to complain or anything. He's just continued to lead the team which is kind of what you'd expect dak to do but here we are on the eve of the season we we're not the eve but about three four days away from this and he is still not under a new who contract and in zeke basically cut in line in front of dak inamori. He got his objective. He is now. The highest paid back not only in the league but in league history the way this thing has played out. How do you see this dak thing playing out because it's kinda hard to imagine. It almost feels like everybody needs a breathe right now but what you said this morning hinted at boy. If you were dak you would be a little bit leery to be out there in in in week one without that new contract well <hes> first of all i think i should i should tell you that i've subsequent to that. Conversation learned that the cowboys are continuing their efforts to assign <hes> dak prescott at amari cooper to contract extensions after they've accomplished what they did with <hes> elliott according to sources and they remain focused on prescott are making a late run in an effort to get this done before the season starts. I don't think anything is imminent with amari cooper and relative to what you sad about elliott kind of <hes> you know getting in front of daqing amari whose contract this year whereas dak had two years left <hes>. We talked to prescott in the locker room. A handful of us didn't go on camera today. <hes> and he said he was happy as hell to have the back and <hes> i can. I can just tell you that he appeared very relaxed. <hes> i asked him. I said you know he said he's. He's carefully monitoring negotiations. He knows where the numbers are. We are at the moment and he said that <hes> you know he is willing to go into the season <hes> without a new contract and take take the risk of an injury and i asked him why he would why he would accept that risk and you know. He said that's an interesting question. Why would i do take that risk and but it's never ever really answered <hes> but but i think it's interesting that now three quarterbacks drafted ahead of him in two thousand sixteen of signed contract extensions this off season jacoby percent with the colts carson wentz with the eagles and jared goff yesterday with the rams. I think the deal signed by winston. Goff are very applicable will be used by prescott and his agent todd france as they continue these negotiations or the cowboys now the golf contract with the rams would seem to be to establish a ceiling for pro prescott <hes> <hes> with its reported guarantee one hundred ten million even though it's probably significantly less than actual money guaranteed at signing because you know prescott has achieved more on the appealed has but not as much as gop because gough went to a super bowl and so i think what makes now becomes the ceiling. If the wind steel well isn't the ceiling <hes> for dak prescott going forward. I certainly think the goff deal would represent. <hes> you know a number that he is not going to surpass ask as he tries to do is deal. Why don't more of these guys try to do at the n._b._a.'s done with those guys getting enormous contracts but doing two year deals. I know the teams teams like to spread this out and they would rather have five six year deal for obvious reasons from a player's agent standpoint. I think percents was only a two year extension attention or something i mean it wasn't a land unique situation. Obviously where yeah where he wasn't expected to be the starter they expected andrew luck to be the starter and he was supposed to be the backup <hes> and and now it's a situation where hey they're not they don't wanna they wanna be fair to him and pay him as a starting quarterback and show faith in him in the locker room at the same time name <hes> you know they don't want to commit themselves to him as their starting quarterback without having the ability to move on from him. If two years from now they're dissatisfied with his performance level so but i think the answer the other question i think first of all it's twofold football. <hes> doesn't have a stronger union as the n._b._a. Does yeah <hes> this is a collision sport. Injuries of significance <hes> are something you'd have to financially protect yourself against and so you want to get as much money as you can guaranteed in a system generally doesn't provide big guaranteed money to football players and the teams don't wanna wanna do two year contracts because as we've seen with the cowboys doing these six to ten year deals they wanna be able to you know spread the salary cap hit over <hes> <hes> a long period of time diminish its effect at especially early on in the contract player and that's why they signed zeke elliot lawrence and they sign in jalen smith <hes> and others to these deals and their cap number for the season actually goes down from what it was yeah. It is interesting how the cap is helped by some of this stuff and you can backload some of these contracts. Everybody always goes crazy one hundred and what you know golf one hundred thirty four million but of course the guaranteed is what matters now. The cowboys have now by my count. Let me see if i add this upright basically a hundred and twenty million dollars in guaranteed money between these three players in the last week or to is that sound right to you hundred twenty quarterback and the receiver that they give them the first round pick to acquire to do yet yeah in in while quarterbacks. We seem seem to only talk now suddenly thirty five million a year thirty four million we were that's what the big deal is but what he's trying to get the guaranteed portion of this thing is what golf get get guaranteed. Okay you got. I mean there's been a reported at a hundred and ten and when this was ordered one hundred seven and a half sack but the real number for wins the full guarantee at signing <hes> that he's going to get regardless of what happens the minute he puts down the pen. <hes> was more like sixty six million dollars so that's the actual number is we haven't seen that number yet on gough. You're right some of that. You gotta stick around for long enough to to pick up the money and all of that in like frazee frazee knowing what to running backs life span or career span is <hes> after three years. It sounds like the cowboys have done some things that that was sort of lessen the blow on the back end if they needed to move on from him if pol order somebody is ready to roll then he'll still be happy because he gets his fifty million guaranteed. I mean this is the deal. This is the he wasn't gonna get this much but this is what demarco murray was desperately looking for a few years ago <hes> you would probably remember off top of your head. What murray ended up getting from the eagles a really good number. It was fifty one and i thought he got like twenty. Million twenty teheran teed yeah pro- probably similar to what maybe lady on bell ended up with a bill to what twenty five to thirty million guaranteed girly in up with that forty five million and then as you. We talked about this earlier today. <hes> zeke just blew owned by him in the cowboys. Were just determined weren't they. We're not doc gonna set the market for running backs well. They absolutely have set the market now you know of course they have the maybe the best running back in the n._f._l. So part of that makes sense but this whole thing thing of. We're not going to set the market. Well sorry you did they have they have absolutely set them on the market by substantial margin which is surprising given <hes> you know that they always claim that a they weren't going to be market setters and couldn't afford to be as they manage their cap because of all the young talent that they've drafted and accumulated that they're going to have to make financial decisions on going forward. They want to keep as many as possible. <hes> and jerry said after the jail smith signing we have to do as good a job as we have ever done managing managing cabinet making these decisions and then for them to go out and take a contract they claimed was an aberration at the position <hes> todd gurley with the rams and surpass it completely surprise me but i think it speaks to the fact that the cowboys are unlike most other teams in the n._f._l. Running backspin devalued across the n._f._l. That's not the case here. This team is built to win with the running back. Not the quarterback running back success sets up up the quarterback success. That's the way this team is structured and i think the fact that they made the financial commitment that they have ezekiel elliott and brought him in so we hear from week one on <hes> you know really creates pressure on the one guy in the organization didn't get a contract extension. That's jason garrett yeah it. It does and how about this. How about this <hes> play caller. How about kellyanne kellyn by the way we're paying all these millions. We've put fifty million. We're setting the market pretty much every position probably about to give dak about one hundred ten million and we need you to kinda help. Save this head coach by the way we'll let that you call the plays i i love. How jerry have you noticed that like jerry. I noticed somebody was kind of resentful of it out there. Those of us who are older than kellyn we we get resentful when when when when jerry says things like well we're we gave up a little bit on experience to get some of this some for imagineasia asia well. I mean there probably are people to door. Turner become less imaginative over the years..

"In writing it is an emergency podcast the plan we wanted to do a little giants preview ed at some point remind me let's at least acknowledged that the cowboys do you have an opponent this weekend game i cannot i can never remember a week one. We've prepared for a lot of these over the years and we look at these teams. James in old man is going to be quite a matchup saquon barkley. This whole thing has been overshadowed about a lot of these negotiations but mainly the zeke one in things have heated it up and now finally we're almost a week one but before we get there. We'll do that later in the podcast. We'll mention the who the giants. I did think it was funny ed in the morning news today <hes> somebody i don't even recognize the writer they said okay who will the giants be throwing the ball to and it just listed everybody who's kind of hurt and it just never got. They never got around to saying like who it would be like. Okay shepherd won't be there. Golden taste suspended the ingram's tied in he'll be out there here. They never got a rounded mentioning a single wide receiver so at some point juniors in cleveland yes yes. We have to figure out who in the world not. Eli is going to be throwing but this thing gets done today. Ed you've been on the scene. Boy heard garrett was thrown out f. bombs today today asking if <hes> is this going to give the team a little juice. What was what was that whole scene like ed after the usually we're not dying to hear here from from garrett but today it was kind of interesting because <hes> this big deal just went down well. It was interesting <hes> primarily i think from the standpoint point of <hes> what kind of shape they see him being in as you return to the practice field <hes> <hes> the enthusiasm <hes> that his teammates reacted reacted with upon his return and kind of how they're going to evaluate his readiness for the game on sunday and what his role in that game will be me. I think were the reasons that <hes> garett was somewhat interesting today. He did say that he thought <hes> based on appearance <hes> and this is before practice that elliott look look to be in very good you know extremely good shape <hes> and that you know they would trust there is and you know they get his feedback on on how he's appealing <hes> and and he's gonna play a very significant role in the game i mean when he came back from kabo. The six week suspension. I think he had fifty one carries for over two hundred yards total in the first two games back against up philidelphia seattle <hes> and i and i think in this particular case it was interesting that <hes> marshall faulk was involved in in helping him train in fact his agent rocky arsenault who i mentioned earlier fluid quarterback back <hes> connerly once he was released by the jacksonville jaguars because they wanted to have an actual n._f._l. Quality <hes> passer in the workouts zeke doc was <hes> enduring and kado as you get ready to make his return to dallas and so <hes> marshall faulk told me after this deal was done that zeke is ready for a full ooh week one workload and one of the things that they worked hardest on <hes> was two minute offense. You know run your route <music> out. Put the ball down hustle back. <hes> get back in line up again. Get another ball same thing time and time again to keep his heart rate up yeah <hes> as well and so i think all indications vacations are based on early returns that he's in very good shape as as he comes back to the cowboys despite missing camp it is edward or matt moseley doomsday podcast coming to you live from the lavish frito nation productions actually off site right now at the star. He's right in the middle of everything today. And of course he was out there early this morning. Breaking all sorts of news archer was involved ed. Have you ever you've been involved in some really interesting things. The farve stuff up was a remarkable that was sort of pre twitter. I don't even know if twitter twitter had been invented. It may have been in. It's very very early stages much my turnover greg because i could have a lot more followers. I think tweeting during my tenure covering far and tim tebow i like i could've been i could've hundreds of thousands of followers. You could ahead mostly like followers. That's for sure now ed was that <hes> have you ever seen anything like this that it was just like it was so called mainstream media radio people. It was just everybody the world trying to have. I think i think eight people in this day and age just really want to claim well. I said at first and then i think two or three weeks ago it was mentioned. It's imminent so now. I guess somebody's out there claiming claiming victory today. We'll extend it was him in it. Well let clue weeks evidence. Exactly i mean this has been a strange angie part of that is is because there's just so much interest in this but the incremental reporting stay. I thought you did a good job of kind of staying out of the the goofiness that was on it was going on out there and then you just kinda. You came in throwing haymakers when you needed to not thought that was. I thought that was important from from from you and the e._s._p._n. Team well in my experience <hes> of covering football since nineteen eighty two and the cowboys always since i got here in this market nineteen eighty nine the cowboys to me has always been a unique <hes> be any unique responsibility because everybody every need every it seems like there are such national interest among the media in what's going on with this team and and that's always been the case from the very early jerry jimmy today's <hes> to evolve into now and you know it used to be when you were a reporter. I didn't know what my competition new at various points in the day. Hey <hes> and it didn't matter what i do. As long as i knew everything there was to know that was important by the time we published a paper about ten o'clock at night and now it's it's <hes> you know you can't take your eyes off your bone when you're involved as a competitor in trying to break any you know substantial news on something <hes> <hes> like ezekiel elliott. Who was you know. Contract is being covered by so many national members of the media plus all the local media people in in <hes> you know television stations radio stations <hes> their own websites. I mean yeah the the competition has never been greater for every little piece of information and all too often and i think every little piece of information is portrayed as something much more magnette more significant than it actually is yeah. I agree with you now. My only disappointment in your coverage. <hes> is my my gentle critique would be. I really wish you had big bodied. Everybody in your the only one pretty much of that whole crew out there at the airport that would have been in a member of the admirals club. Now that would have been that woulda been flexing right. They're they're just pool zeke right into the admirals club club just kind of away from everybody chasing him around. I would've liked that because you are. You've always your longtime admirals club guy. You have a lot of miles calls. You've got your you've got platinum status or maybe even what's above platinum. I i think it coulda pulled that off. I i decided not to get involved in the airport scrum however <hes> but i did find it humorous and a little bit of a a throwback to sort of you know i think channel eleven put their helicopter up to follow the van that the was apparently in driving his plano home and it was kind of reminiscent of i'm not gonna say the o._j. Simpson chase <hes> because it wasn't that important but it was similar to brad childress picking up brett farve in minnesota in a white s._u._v. and escorting him to the vikings facility from the airport. It was kind of reminiscent of that was our version of that yeah and it was fun. It was kind of fun to monitor all that and in this boy even has twitter winter spats. Did you see that twitter beef peop- some of the various members of the media going at each other you know of course we refer restrain myself from that quite honestly or a couple of different times. I had a tweet all set to go and i just decided not to at same delete it <hes> because i did not want to get into a scuffle couple or appear to be reprimanding somebody or whatever but but but believe me they deserve this. This is a new edward or i love this. A man who does is it right then good judgment. Who does it hit the sin button. Wow this turn it over a new leaf now as we get closer to game day obviously obviously the team got to practice with zeke. He was there for breakfast club. This morning apparently seven thirty breakfast club. I love it. I love the cowboys getting together for breakfast club but there was a big talk about oh. Is this a new helmet. Look at this helmet. He's got a new shield on his helmet that kind of thing yeah the new visor what <hes> what do you do you. You've obviously garrett thinks. He looks to be in fine shape. What do you think is a reasonable expectation for him in this giants game. I know we can't put an exact number. But what are you kind of thinking from the folks. You've talked to the cowboys organization for how big a load he'll be. He'll be willing to carry because we all know how this work if they need him to. Ice the game any sort of pitch calicut thrown out the window but at least going into that. What do you think the plan will be. You know it'll be interesting thing to see <hes>. I've always been one who felt like you can't give him the bollocks off <hes> in both phases of the game as a runner and receiver he had seventy seventy seven catches last year that was partly because of how poorly they managed the receiver position going into the year and until they acquired a barry cooper and partly because they didn't have a viable tight end jason witten back so there's no way elliott's catching seventy seven balls ever again <hes> but i think i would still want him to touch the ball twenty eighty five times in the game but <hes> running pass if if at all possible and assuming that it's a competitive game for all four quarters <hes> i do think that they drafted tony pollard in the fourth round not because they anticipate z. coli out and wanted to be prepared to have a <hes> a quality running back in the lineup for the early part of the season if he really did follow through with that <hes> they drafted him because of what they think the two of them could be together <hes> and so i think he's he's going to have a role not just in this game not just until elliott gets his conditioning level and get comfortable with the physical aspect of the game and being hit and so forth again <hes> but i think he's gonna play a role throughout the course of the season <hes> as a because..

"Year i did look i'm surprised rb twentyone feels loaded me on mac you both have yeah i mean i don't hate call at all i mean i just think that i'm trying to pull it up right now but i'm curious what percentage of of the colts rushing touchdowns he accounted for in those games probably close to you know all of them and that's a hard thing to do year over year you might just see a couple of go jordan wilkins spencer ware who they brought in 'em he he would have to maintain like a ninety percent share of the rushing touchdowns and maybe not quite 'cause they're not gonna just run for fifteen touchdowns as a team they'll put the pressure on promoting that but that's part of it is just like you spread it around a little bit 'cause you don't know what team is gonna have a backup the vultures a few but a i i could definitely see it i i definitely think that's in max range of potential outcome like i've got a protection for nine so i'm not gonna argue with end as far as running back twentyone me that's mostly just because because this is ape your exercise and i like i got him for twenty reception that almost feels like it might be too high hold it up yeah just ran for thirteen tonight last year an eric brown had one of them yeah that is a very low number hines had to to wilkins had wanted mcat nine a so that's so what did that mean to you like when you project this year i mean especially with how much they pass and i'm projecting number one fear pass attempt in pittsburgh for my second most a pass a volume you know second most pass attempts in the league is a an end knowing that luck is gonna profit thoughts on a pass is of course i want the luck and lots of comparison i have luck first throwing for seven more touchdowns than watson which in a baseline projection is a pretty huge gap between two different elite quarterback so premium famous chief the differences the rushing but 'em i for me it says yeah like that's probably gonna come up thirteen low but also this team is comfortable throwing the ball in the red zone and probably will throw touchdowns as well so that might it'd be the biggest detriments i'm not getting the twelve russians russian okay so you you guys have naim hines projected to be an rb foreign pbr with forty niner more catches fifty six where he forty nine for ben for naim hines so let's talk about the receivers including eric iran i know you guys are afraid of eric hebron you're dropping down to seven touchdowns where he six four ben the numbers are pretty shocking when you look at what his production was the worst targets were with jack doyle on the field and without jack doyle 'em but yeah i mean i guess we have a general sense of where these guys are gonna go hilton late round to early round three in a twelve team league he bron i actually don't know like round six round seven seven let's see where there is such a wide range there are there are leagues where he is the.

"If you just go for the flight, you know. And I know it's a lot of money. It's hard to give up. But honestly, like tomorrow is no guarantee and you definitely can't take it with you. So mus- worth coming out here and just, you know, give it a try and go for flight. And I honestly karaoke men anything more than flying than the most thing though, because my favorite so far. So your passion comes through just beautifully and it's completely understood by the airplane geeks when you say that people might not know what twenty five or b twenty four is that so far into me and just as because I grew up with them with them by talking with my father. And as we were interviewing, we heard two engines will actually, we heard three engines. The first one was a b, twenty five. Taking off in the second one was the p fifty one or f fifty one taxiing in and those engines are just music to. We are playing geeks to you and to me and as a twenty twenty-five started up as it was getting ready to taxi out. And I watched those n. Engines run, and I heard them and I watch a taxi away. Those of us were the passion for that. Have a tear come to our. I just every time it flies because it's just such a beautiful thing, and it's marvelous to find someone else who shares that passion and actually works with that passion. And I need to thank you for that. I'm glad you guys are out here, checking out the planes on the word out. A lot of people still don't know who you are, what we are, they think we're the commemorative air force. They, they just don't understand what we're doing. So we gotta get more people out here in any right now. The big focus has always been on the veterans, but we don't have so many left but, but right now we really are thinking about getting kids out here because we got inspire the next generation of pilots and mechanics and restoration. People are historians or even ones they're going to join the military. I have a picture on my phone of my teeth pilot whose only twenty two right now, but he's maybe seven or eight and the picture with Rb seventeen. And you know, who knows that day? He came out, maybe the person who used to have my job was kind enough to him to take that picture and you know, inspired him to do what he's doing today. I mean, it's really amazing to know that you. You have the power to inspire and encourage the next generation to carry about these because you're right now to kids. It's a video game. It's a movie..

"Rb seventy eight first segment. Kick back and enjoy life. So I, this really old church in my neighborhood in in south Austin, this past Sunday, and it was the first time I've ever gone to this particular church. It was a Baptist church, long story short. The pastor told the story that I thought was super cool in relatable to a lot of the things that we discuss on this show. It's not necessarily a religious story. I mean, you could surely look at it that way if you wanted to. But it's just a, it's a parable of sorts, and I'm gonna share my version of eggs. I can't quote the dude word for word here. I'm also not going to credit him because he probably took it from somebody else and it is what it is. So I, that's the way the world goes. So here's the story. A wealthy American businessmen is on vacation in Mexico to go sport fishing, right? I don't know this Pacific Mexican city, but one day after lunch. When he's walking along the docks to head back out on the ocean and fish for Morlin or whatever sport fish. She's, he's out there to get. He passes a Mexican fishermen relaxing in a hammock taking a little siesta. Why aren't you out fishing? The American businessman asks. I've already caught all I need for the day, the Mexican fishermen response. The American businessmen confused explains to the Mexican fishermen that if you went back out on the water in caught even more fish, the Mexican fishermen could make even more money by a bigger boot fit, more fish on that bigger boat making, even more money to eventually buy more boats, maybe even have a whole fleet one day and make exponentially more money. So the Mexican fishermen s why would I do that? You get to kick back in joy life. The American businessman explains to which the Mexican fishermen responds. What do you think I'm doing now? Now there are a lot of ways you can get the story right. And just to be clear, this isn't a knock on ambition. It's just a little parable to get you thinking about what it is you're chasing every day. I'm at me in particular. I'm an age right now where everybody I know like early thirties, right early to mid thirties, sunny, a little some of y'all. I mean, my friends, but I'm gonna dry. Now we're. Most everybody in my social circle is chasing the same invisible cash dragon every single day. And this.
