How are Black Holes Discovered?

"Black holes have been kind of a big deal ever since the first photo of a supermassive black hole was taken in two thousand nineteen black holes are exceptionally hard to find because they don't admit any light to pinpoint where they are. You look at how nearby stars interact with them and measure the x ray activity. The way that's yielded. The most black holes was to go. Look for x ray emission. The black hole stripping material off star as the black hole strips material off the star. It emits a bunch of rays. And those x-rays are very prominence. Scientists believe there are many more black holes in the universe. we haven't identified yet black holes that aren't interacting with a star and have very little x-ray activity trump theoretical models. We know that there are thousands of these non interacting black holes in the galaxy and scientists from all over the world very interested in finding these non interacting backhoes ohio state university professor todd thompson and presidential fellow tarin dude giant singer looked at the problem and set out to prove that black holes can be discovered in a different way. They set their sights on an unusual object in the constellation. Mono ceos the unicorn constellation there an unknown mass is causing a disruption in the shape of the light coming from surrounding older star called a red giant backhoes distort the shape off the red giant and the distortion creates changes in star over the face of the orbit of the back hall around the giant measure. How fast it's coming towards you and how fast it's going away and you can also measure. How star is distorted by the gravity of the nearby. A Conversation With Dr. Suzanne Koven on Black Women in Medicine

"Early on. I believe that displaying medical knowledge the more obscure the better would make me worthy. That belief was useful spur to learning but ultimately provided only superficial comfort during my first year clinical skills course and colleges asked me to identify a rash mycosis fungoides i blurted out since it was one of the few rashes whose name i knew and the only one associated with cancer. My answer turned out to be correct causing three jaws to drop it once the oncologist the patients and my own but the glow of validation lasted barely the rest of the day a little further on and training. I thought that competence met knowing how to do things i eagerly performed lumbar punctures and inserted central lines and applied for specialty training in gastroenterology a field. In which. I had little interest thinking that i could endoscope my way to self confidence my first few years in practice. I was sure that being a good doctor meant curing people. I felt buoyed by every cleared. Chest x-ray every normalized blood pressure. Unfortunately the converse was also true. I took cancer recurrences personally when the emergency room page to alert me that one of my patients had arrived there. I assumed that some error on my part must have precipitated the crisis now lead in clinical career. I understand that. I've been neither so weak nor so powerful sometimes even after i studied my hardest and tried my best. People got sick and died. Anyway how. I wish i could spare you years of self-flagellation and transport you directly to the state of humility.

A Record-Breaking Flare From Sun's Nearest Stellar Neighbour

"Astronomers have detected one of the most violent still aflame ever recorded in the galaxy exploding out of proxima centauri the nearest star system that the sun the massive flare reported in the estra physical journal is the largest ever recorded coming from proxima centauri a small special tie. Game red dwarf star located just four point two five light years away. Proxima centauri has twelve percent the mass and fourteen percent the radius of the sun. It is a surface temperature of thousand seven hundred and seventy seven degrees celsius and is better thousand times less luminous than the sun. it's known to have. At least two orbiting planets one of which proxima b. is similar in size to the earth and orbits within the star's habitable zone. That's the region around a star with temperatures would allow liquid water central for life as we know it to exist on the planet. Surface red dwarfs are the most common type of star in the milky way galaxy making up about three quarters of all the stars in the galaxy. And because they're relatively dim it's easy to find orbiting except planets around them consequently the most common known source of exoplanets. And for this reason proximus story has long been a target for scientists have been defined life beyond the solar system. However there's always been a problem with red dwarf stars and that includes proxima centauri. They produce violent flares spilling out huge amounts of energy and plasma into the surrounding space. Eventually this would erode away any atmosphere around by planet. A would also radiate anything on the planet surface and that includes any hope of finding life on the surface of proxima b. The study's lead author assistant professor mcgregor from the university of colorado. Boulder says red dwarfs flare a lot more than stars like the sun and astronomers are only now beginning to understand the magnitude and character of their flays mcgregor and colleagues observed proxima centauri for forty hours using nine ground and space based telescopes including the square kilometer. Ray pathfinder as gap nassar's hubble space telescope the atacama large millimeter submillimeter array radio telescope alma and nasa transiting exoplanet survey satellite tests. This marked the first time. Astronomers have had this kind of multi wavelength coverage of a stellar flare.

The Legend of the Gashadokuro

"As in other japanese legends the giant stella tal gotta doku rose name is partially derived from the sound of the yokthai spirit. Makes in this case. it's a gottschee gotschi. Or gotta gotta sound as its bones clack together. But you won't hear it coming if it doesn't want you to like many yokthai. The gosh dokru can be deathly silent and invisible until the moment swoops down to devour you before we discuss. How restless spirits become monstrous yokoi. We must understand how easy it is to become a ghost or you ray. In japanese tradition in the west ghosts are generally believed to be tied to points of heavy trauma but in japan a ghost can be the result of any unfinished business whether it be love revenge or realizing you forgot to buy milk right before your hit by a bus to put a european arrest you have to help them get what they want easy enough when all the spirit wants is to buy milk but when you're dealing with a spirit seeking vengeance be warned. They will never stop until they reach their goal. This led to the practice of bringing in a zen cheeky or buddhist teacher to help the dying individual detach themselves from the world. This process can be difficult. And sometimes these restless unfulfilled spirits become twisted evolving into shadows of their old selves. They turn into yokthai supernatural creatures beyond our understanding. The gush doco grow is what happens when those spirits converge into one their hunger and rage binds them together into a giant skeleton. That's terrifying enough. But it gets scarier. The mindless gushing doco can be controlled by even darker forces

That would make recreational pot legal in all states. A number of states, including very recently, my home state of New York have legalized the recreational use of marijuana for adults, and those experiments by and large, have been a success. COVID-19: What Will It Take to Vaccinate the World?

"Americans can anticipate a time when all of us have access to a vaccine. Poor nations aren't so lucky. You might be thinking Well, that doesn't affect me. But if the virus spreads unchecked in billions of people who don't get vaccinated this year, you can bet it will mutate Ah lot and then it becomes just a matter of time before our vaccines are less effective. Earlier this month, Secretary of State Antony Blinken spelled it out. Even if we vaccinate all 332 million people, the United States tomorrow way would still not be fully safe from the virus. Not while it's still replicating around the world and turning into new variants. That could easily come here and spread across our communities again. The world has to come together to bring the covert pandemic to an end everywhere. So this week we look at the race to vaccinate a planet of 7.9 billion people. Ray Suarez takes it from here. Vaccinating a majority of people in every country on Earth is a daunting challenge. So the international community has cobbled together a radical solution. Kovacs is an initiative led by the World Health Organization, along with other global health partnerships. Today, it's working with almost every country in the world, so called mixes an unprecedented global effort. Gothic sub brings together 191 economies that together account for more than 90% of the world's population. That's un rather Gupta. I spoke with her over zoom. "Firm ud on partnership with tsn episode. Twenty of the raindrops hockey podcast. I'm Darren Gregor and I'm in a hotel room in Ottawa Ontario Canada. Ray Ferraro your in a hotel room in Toronto Ontario Canada. We're living the life here right. I mean this is this is the lengths that we go to to bring the people what they want what they need what they deserve in just podcast greatness week by week. Oh Yeah it's It's phenomenal. I don't know how Your Hotel Room it's mine is a meat. It's like think of when Rocky Balboa was punching the flanks of beef Mike. Okay I don't know what is going on in my room here but the heater doesn't work or something. It's just like soul cold in here but I'm going I'm going to grind it out. It's that time of year. Drags you gotTa get it done? Z? You'RE NOT. It's not even like you're being punked by a former teammate. Who came in and readjusted the thermostat right so no just. No that was that was well thought out. Well planned by those Gla- by Chris Tamer. Jeff odd jobs and Sean. That was well but they made my room like an oven. This just freezing. Well I'll tell you this You know often almost on a weekly basis. Tiny the rain drags mascot will bark in the background and Our guests who by the way? We've got Tyler Seguin joining us later in the podcast of the Dallas Stars. Who's also a dog lover? So we'll talk about that But tiny will often bark. Create some sort of mayhem Don't be offended alarmed or annoyed. Please Ray at when you hear the vacuum cleaner banging against my door because I can hear the made on the outside. I've put do not disturb. That doesn't matter that doesn't matter if there is aggressive vacuuming. Yeah you can. This used to be a beef when when I was playing so like you take your nap. Hang the do not disturb all right. Well they're doing their job. They're not really concerned about if you're taking a NAP or not. It's the middle of the afternoon. Stop it and that is exactly what you you get the knock on the door but has happened a year. Maybe you got a dirty hall. I literally was just out there. Ten minutes talking with his lovely person saying please. Can You keep it as quiet as possible outside my door now? I was trying to explain the podcast. Apparently she's not a podcast fan. No she didn't care. She does not care what you're doing. She just wanted to make sure my towels refresh in the garbage. Was Was taken out. Okay what do you do when you come into the room though I hang out the do not disturb green choice thing? Yeah if I'm in the room for a week. Nobody enters the room but me right. I don't need someone. I'm the only person in the bed. I use one towel how I assume you use soap when you're in the shower once a week because I don't WanNa waste. Well there you go you come out your clean your towels clean. Hang it up. Dry it off. Use the same towel. Like what do you need more towels for? What come on man. You cannot use the same towel like shower. You Wash your face. You do a number of things over the course of date I I so i. I'll use one towel for a date but I've been in Ottawa since Monday night and I've probably gone through four towels in that time that grosses me out why I have a hand towel that you know when you wash your face wildly wants to know who you do. Your hand tells right Drake's I'm not I'm not eighteen. Would you grow up just a moment towels? You're wasteful man. Seriously I what is wrong with you. Hang it up. It's dry it's clean use it again. I know see I do embrace the idea the green choice when you check in particular but you gotta use it if I just thought how. What the Hell's the difference fair enough? You know the challenge of recording the podcast aside from both of us being in hotel rooms is significant with a trade deadline looming right. I'm GonNa tell quick story so I as I said. I arrived in Ottawa on Monday. Night so I go to the morning Skate Buffalo and Ottawa Tuesday morning and in one of the first players that I run into in entrenches. The bowels of the Canadian Tire Centers Mark Bore Viet Ski of the sands. He limps over. He's got the Bat Ankle and he looks at me and he goes man he goes. You're like the angel of Death. Like what are you doing here? But it's it's one hundred percent because again trade deadline is looming and all of these players. I he's not GONNA get traded. He's hurt number one and Ottawa's GonNa WanNa keep him you know there's talk of a two year extension there but honestly you know you're in the urine arenas three four times a week so it's not unusual to see Ray Ferraro Around the the dressing rooms when you attend mornings gates But in my case you know. They're looking at Megan. What is he doing here? There must be a trade developing or something along those lines. Well the thing is like everybody's so on edge and you know how none of the players follow social media. They all do they all do especially at this time of Year Right. Because everybody's looking for a scoop in you know any. I mean it's your life right so I ended up. You know remembering back to when I was playing in you. Call your agent have you. Have you heard anything because you couldn't ask them? We didn't have. There was no texting so he'd call. Have you heard anything? You'd go? Nope even if he had heard anything he was going to say. No it's because he's not GonNa send you into a panic for something that may or may not happen and then some guy would say. Hey I heard your name pop a discussion. Because his agent might have called him something. It's like it's like the game of telephone where you whisper into somebody's ear and then by goes ten people around. It's some completely different. It's everybody's following because it's it's really such a an unsettling time so I need some advice here so just before we started recording episode twenty A player agent did call me asked about his client and I flat out said No. This is the supplier that certainly on the block and likely could be traded. It's Game Day for this player and the agents will do you think I should tell them. I'm a no now I mean I know would you? You wouldn't have wanted to know that on a Game Day would you that? Potentially you're being graded no. I don't I didn't want I wouldn't want to know that. Like how and and like I said before the problem becomes. It might not happen so talented. The only thing you're thinking about is not the guy across from you you're thinking about. What am I doing here if I get traded? I've got a I wonder where it is. I wonder where I gotTA leave. I wonder like you're not even there and so no absolutely not so. I think we need to Explain something to our listeners. Here rate I sound crystal clear pristine in fact with my fancy road travel. Mike which I remember to bring with me as I always do And you on the other hand sound like you're talking through like a headset with through your ear buds. That's what I'm doing now. It's really funny that you would bring it up because like like you. Hey that's what you sound like. We're on a video hookup. You Idiot I mean we can see each other you know. I've got my headset in. Because my road mike which is exceptional is at home on my desk because I forgot it. Okay so so. You've acknowledged that we're on a video hookup correct. Okay just did I just hold on for a second my goodness you gotTa get in the Gym Man? So could again. I know canton that okay. Can we do the rest of the podcast when the just in a T. shirt? I'm wearing boxers but I don't have found some are you with this. Are you okay with that? I'm I'm totally totally fine. Within as long as you're comfortable and get yourself into the gym I definitely do after you get back into the gym no house. You can't go there and sit there. You gotta get on a machine you got to be. It's one of the reasons why I love traveling with you especially when we're at the world championships for an extended period of time because you shame me into exercise but I need it. It's it's it's not a big deal. You're a good guy it's all about. It's all about keeping yourself moving. You can't just sit there on your phone now. Delivering as Mark Bore. Viet ski says Angel of Darkness News to the players. Speaking of again let's promote our trade deadline post podcast. I mean we're going to be exhausted right at the conclusion of Monday's trade deadline. We're on the air for an additional three hours. Three o'clock eastern is the deadline. Where on the air till six we're GONNA race over into a studio at tsn right and we're GONNA do thirty. Maybe forty minutes of opinion and analysis of everything that went down on Monday as part of the trade deadline. Best part about the trade deadline is when it's over. That's what you have. The teams can't change anymore. You've this is your group that you're gonNA either make it to the playoffs with compete for the Stanley Cup. With or not and I I really kind of like that. This is a great a opportunity for sponsorship If you WANNA jump on board with the trade deadline post podcast you can do that. If you are interested in partnering with US HERE ON THE RAIN. Drake's hockey podcast. You can visit rate and dregs dot com and hit the sponsorship form. That's attached on the website. Let's take a look the five biggest hockey items this week. Ray and We know we're recording this. You're in Toronto for the leafs and the Pittsburgh Penguins So who knows how that game will go when people are listening to this? Love a pretty good handle on it by Jeff O'Neill the Oh dog Carlo Colaco on tsn. Ten fifty radio absolutely nailed the Toronto. Maple leafs This Week. And and truthfully because of the passion they seem to be the faces and the voices of a very angry maple leafs nation. They've got all world skill. Why why is this team struggling? So mightily ably. Well the the thing that everybody keeps coming back to and it's funny the players are talking about it. Mike Babcock was talking about it. At the start of the year Sheldon Keefe is referred to it for at various times in his tenure is that they're they lack urgency. They lacked commitment. They lack detail orientation to their play. It's the same thing over and over again so the game tonight. Which of course. By the time everybody's listening will will know what's happened But the game tonight really isn't about XS and Os and whether Dennis Malkin the new. The newest leaf is GONNA fit in on a third line or fourth line. Or whether they're gonNA change their four check. None of that matters tonight. Really what matters is do they have will.

"Darren Gregor six hundred twenty. One points see closer it is. It's a forty point gap and you know what it is. It's Mitch Minor. He's going strong. He's Kinda turned up a notch of late. And you don't have Alex Ovechkin which shocks me shocks me that you don't have Alex Avert. I'm glad you're shocked. Your forty points behind me were trailing Kurt. Hanlon who remains in first place with seven hundred seventy three points and Erin brewer man. This guy's a Gamer. He won the first half. He's not that far behind. Kurt Hamlin at seven hundred and sixty six point so as Aaron trying to use this as a retirement strategy. Yeah he was pretty happy. Do you check your instagram posts. I mean replies etcetera. Yeah Yeah I mean Erin send us show and thank you for paying as we said we would have a contest and not pay. I mean I've been involved in some some contests historically where things didn't work out it wasn't it didn't go as promise so good of you to shady. Open your wallet knock. Don't you get into open your wallet? You just made a bet that someone else is. GonNa pay so when you open your wallet. Did the moths actually fly out? I don't have a wallet I have in the Bank on the back of my phone. I got one of those things that I can put three cards in my driver's license my credit card and a debit card. That's it hey by the way did you find your credential and Nashville to find it. I know where it is where it's at the bottom of the elevator. Well yes it's at the bottom of the elevator shaft. You know how hard it is to drop credential and get it to go rate in the open slot of the elevator shaft rate in. Its Second Time. Something has happened to me like this. So but I'll tell you this so we're going into the elevator. Security Lady says Do you have your credential. I pull it out of my pocket drop it and it goes straight down the chute and she says do have more. Id Down at the bottom of the elevator shaft. I don't have anything prior had dropped. A ear pod I was coming into. The elevator is going to work out. I put it in I drop it bounces twice and goes right down the shaft like wasn't he expensive ones or just a No. They're not cheap right down the bottom. The guy standing in the elevator looks at me and he goes. Wow can you believe that? I don't know we just kinda stared at it. And then the elevator door closed. It's never coming back. Miller was right on top of his game though right like he couldn't get the camera out fast enough to snap that for social media. Yeah he enjoyed that he had. He had a nice giggle. He doesn't tell me though that he's going to post it and then I just I'm looking through my feed and I see it and I'm like Oh would you look at that. See I don't know about that. I think that's a dangerous game right. I feel like you have to get some sort of sign off before you do that. He did although I did. Throw a punch Reiner Shaw earlier in the year right for ordering the forty two dollar glass of Oba Scotch and I don't think you you cleared that on non old alligator arms. What do you got going this weekend? I mean aside from Alabama. I'm home for the weekend and leave on Sunday afternoon Have the leafs on Monday at home in Ottawa? So Anaheim Anaheim Toronto. Josh Manson I feel like we might get radioed by that one. But that's okay I mean. We're just talking. And speculative turn what what do you mean radioed like? Somebody's going to say. Oh this is happening. Yeah Ray Ferraro expects Josh Manson to be Toronto. Maple Leaf No. I don't it was just a man. You can't go backwards now. That's what you said. Gee You seem to be a little sensitive about this stuff happen to you on occasion. I'm just distancing myself from you all right so you're busy in a busy week to though by the way yeah it was. Cold Tops One into the Gallery abode twenty five or thirty yards to the left of the Thi box any. He raises his shoulders up. Like right like we would do like. Oh My Gosh. That was terrible. It's you really got to see it. It's don't even have time to scream for. The whole thing was that that thing was a kill shot bullets into the crowd. We've got ask green drinks coming up some real great submissions raindrops dot com. You can check us out there or you can check us out on rand's on twitter as well social media channels instagram at Cetera. We're GONNA take between the benches and ray you want to talk about mark. Gorby ask the Ottawa. Senators and I fully endorse this discussion. Because I don't quite understand the approach of Peer Dory and I get it. He's got a slew of free agent sells top of the pages. Jj Patio. I get it. I get it but Kenny Hall and the Edmonton oilers appreciate recognized. What Zack Kassian brings to that organization? So they re upped Kassian four years at three point two. I think that's fair. Value for Zack. Kassian all provides Mart Barbie. That's for me doesn't get the credit for being good hockey player as he is but beyond that. What more can this guy do for the Ottawa senators and yet he and his family are being held hostage here. He doesn't WANNA leave Ottawa. I mean give him a contract extension of three or four years at two and change per and he's probably happy as can be while three years and six million bucks seems pretty easy. The Guy Wants to stay there. He's he's he is. He has been as loyal and as effective as he possibly can be. He lays it out on the on the line all the time. I was in buffalo the other night. He got hurt in the third period. He got his skeet kind of kicked out from underneath them by Kyle Okposo Yeah. He looked like he had heard his hamstring and his back kind of so he comes but he ends up coming back in the game. They're defending lead with the empty net. He blocks two shots from Marcus. Joe Hansen in about five or seven seconds and then banks off the boards for the empty netter in the room after the game. All the comments coming out of there were just the guys just they love them and I think to me of of the decisions that Dorian has to make this as an easy one. Because I don't think the return if you decide to trade bore. Viet Ski is going to be enough for you to make a significant difference in your overall plant he is. He is part of what you need on a team. And aboard the Eski was available for trade. I could see him One of those guys that nobody really talks about it the deadline he gets raided and then in five weeks ago while that was a really good addition because he didn't cost much and man that he play his ass off for us. I I like bore. Viet Sqi a lot and he would be for the guys that have to come in to adjust to a new system. He is about as low maintenance as there would be. And Look. I don't mean to peck at at Paradorn. I gotta believe gotTa believe that. Mark Mortgage is a priority because of everything that he brings to the community and to the Ottawa senators. Well so I hope so because he deserves it to us lots of times guys get signed you you don't you don't really have a strong opinion one way or the other but Viet Ski deserves to be signed. Let's go to the mail. Bag Right As Iran Drake's and question one is from Carol Anne and Caroline says I truly appreciate your guys awesome interview last week with Jayna Hefford? How big do you believe? The women's pro game could become in North America if it was supported by the National Hockey League and its teams and television partners like has happened with the NBA to grow the W NBA. Well when you say how popular I mean are you talking about the number of teams are you talking about the viewership. I think all encompassing it'd be supported and if it had the backing of the National Hockey League would it become as popular potentially as the WNBA? Tough one that's a tough one because you got to remember here you're starting from Ground Zero the NBA's got twenty year head. Start on you And there were lots of years where the WNBA was Kind of in the Wilderness. A little bit right like it was It was a less notable product because people were had to learn about it. If you want eight or ten or twelve teams you gotTa think that's roughly twenty two players per team. That's one hundred seventy ish players where they all come from because you want the quality to be as high as you can. And that's why I think a sixteen league sounds best because you're you're still talking about one hundred and twenty to thirty players you you would have to realize that of course that there would be injury so you'd have to bring people in can they all be from North America or are you going to bring players from from Europe to play if you bring players from Europe. How how do you? How do you pay them? How do you make it worth their while to come and play? And there's a lot of challenges and a lot of work to to getting it off the ground and then once it's off the ground that's just can be the launching point. I don't I don't have a great answer for but tight one. Because there's there's a lot of moving parts to it yeah thank you to. Caroline for that Just two questions. This week great. I'm busy I get stuff to do. Good metoo along from you and not to go all the on you you and says and he loved the digs by the way at Duffy last week. Who's enjoying Miami and Super Bowl by the way? How does Dorothy end up with the third best? Hairdo on that panel. Go Luke. Wilson's got the wild hairstyle. Jabari greer's right down to the would do it. And he's got whatever he does on his head but but James carries an entourage with him right like he's got make people that they might hire locally but I think they actually travel somebody from Toronto to look after and manage the hair. See I feel like I can make comment on hair. Because of my lack thereof right like what's he gonNA say? Oh you've got terrible hair. I know yeah see. I think he dips and he swears he doesn't. I I think that there's been a considerable M- amount of hair dye applied to James Dot these coloring over the years really. We'll we'll have to investigate this at the finals. Make the haircuts the same day or the every time I bring it up. He denies it so he'll denied again. Anyway I derailed. This thing you an is using Duffy as a jumping off point and he says which of the current First Round playoff matchups besides the battle of Alberta. Do you find the most intriguing and hope happens. Un says for him. It's the Bruins and the underrated Columbus Blue Jackets. He thinks could be a six seven game series and an upset special in the making with Elvis shutting out. The bruins possibly. What's your best match up? Who else do we have do. We no no not really I mean Tampa the Tampa Bay lightning Florida. Panthers could be a match up. I Dunno it. Wouldn't it wouldn't have the wide appeal. But I think it would be really cool to have the two teams from Florida. Play play against each other Now is there any way Boston? Philly can play affiliate up the second or yeah l. Boston would have to win the division. Then after billy would have to end up as the second wildcard. Yeah which is possible. Yeah we'll see. That would be a series. I would want because it takes me back to the Old Stanley Cup. Final and stuff like that. You know the one year were Boston. Had the three nothing lead in Philly came back and won four three after David. Krejci broke his wrist and That would be but I. I know if Columbus in a series it's going to be a physical one and yeah so I I don't I don't I don't know unless you unless you're given me exact examples. It's pretty tough to come up with a series isn't it? Yeah but let's thank you in any way. We didn't really answer his question or give them anything to work with but I'd say you added nothing to that fair enough. We have a number of great sponsors on the raindrops eggs. Podcast one of the newest and arguably one of my favorites is cool back and and I think you understand. Why are buds? It cool better now in Canada with their free to play website. Sunday coming up as of the PODCAST recording this Thursday Thursday morning the current line and the game is Kansas City minus. One point five. Who are you packing? I think that's right so right. That sounds right. Yeah that's right. Okay so I. My Fan says Kansas City because I liked the way they play in love watching Pat. Mahomes play but I think San Francisco is just too good this year. Really really good. I'm with you. I Love Kansas City and part of it for me not to just pile on James Duffy. I mean James. Duffy is a lifelong San Francisco. Forty niners fan. Oh does he ever? Yeah and we don't have skin in the game. He seems to so. That's just extra incentive for me to cheer for the Kansas City chiefs while I guess so what you're saying. You're not really cheering for somebody to win. But you're hearing for James to lose.

I get terrible thick mood or did you probably did you hear the chirp about. I've never seen a good player with the red stick. Oh God I'm abandoning the All Star game. He says that somebody came in with a ready stick. Never seen a good player with a Red Stanton. God He's I mean. There's no filter as we all know. There's no filter so he's going to say what's on his mind. You know that doubt about that. Eight bronze talk to us a little bit. You're on leafs lunch last week and we touched on this but we want to give you an opportunity. Ray and I are social media gurus especially we are you. Don't he pours over instagram? You've probably twitter ones or at least a union started a company called well inspired travels now rain. I spend a lot of time in Slovakia last year. Beautiful Country Switzerland in May now as the destinations that you and your wife or promoting inspired travel sterling for sure. Switzerland's an awesome location. Yeah no we're you know. What are what's worldwide we're We're we're basically. It's a boutique. Luxury travel business that caters to anyone but our niches athletes and former athletes and and sports executives and sports personalities and people that You know it's terrible to see what happened with Koby and as we're starting this business and I mean that's that's what we're talking about. How how he was with his family. And how invested? He was with his family and a lot of times as an athlete. When you're playing your so invested in your sport and so investing in your game a lot of times. Your family goes by the wayside and it's it can be very Quick as we all know the sport and can be you know you see this happen in your life life in general. You never know what's going to happen at the next turn and when we started this it was about bettering at for other families you know. I never had a travel agent. I never had somebody doing travel. I did it all myself. You know in partnership with my wife throughout my career and and we really kind of you know. I wish I would've had one because I would have gone to more places I would have seen more would have experienced more but I was so worried about eating and training and being prepared and and not losing a beat while we were travelling that we went back to a lot of the same places. Because I knew what I was getting at. I knew there was a gym. And all the rest of that stuff and now with you know in today's era with where all the health and wellness trends and everything. That's kind of gone on with that. And and where where you know from fitness centers to culinary to The spies to all the things that players do on a regular basis. Now you can get more access to that throughout the world and and you'll be able to experience more with your family and really understand What it can do for your family if you look at a new culture and and you know maybe you WanNa give back as talking to a guy. One wants to go to Africa and I was a little shocked. He'll yeah we WANNA do a mission trip. I'm like Oh man. Wow all right so you want to incorporate a mission trip inside of a safari and on and on and on I mean there's so many cool things that you can do And so many amazing places in this world and and it's really just about experience. Get all and you're able to take that in with your family and and and really digest it all and and and understand what it can mean to you mean to your family and in growing your relationships and growing What what it is family is all about and and We're excited about it. We've gotten You know some pretty good traction so far and and made a lot of great relationships and you know. I think the biggest thing to for us on the athlete side is is is the mentoring side of it where I can't tell you how many times you know. Obviously I was injured a lot over my career. But you know especially in the last one with my in my head It it really brought. It brought to me where everybody asked me every single day. How you doing you know when you come back. You know how you're feeling you know. Do you need anything. But but not once. Did anybody ever talked to my wife or my kids and ask them how they were and and I think you know on the family side of things. I think that you don't really pay attention to it. You don't really think about it. You know you know. Nobody wants to say the Word Concussion. But a guys out with a concussion. He's out to three years. And you hear some of the stories about guys not know why they are forgetting what you're doing and all the rest of that stuff and you know if it's a twenty six twenty seven year old with a young wife and a young family. She's a dear. And unless you know what's going on you got nobody to talk. Nobody really knows what's going on so we're excited about about China help and not regardless of all and it's You know you have an opportunity to to try to get back and and help those That come after you and and it's been It's been very rewarding so far and we're looking forward to hopefully A long Long run. That's why it's well inspired travels It's a terrific service. We look forward to learning more about it. we'll let you go this How are you with middle seats and rooms with a windows because that's always refer icon middle seats when I first when I first turned pro in Hartford we? We were still flying commercial so being the rookie. I always got the middle seat. You must have when those yeah. I don't think the people I was sitting beside enjoyed that very much and the windowless rooms. Yeah we don't that's not part of our Bailiwick travel you get a room with a view and quite a few more amenities It sounds great. All the best to you and your family prongs and good luck with your family. Your sons your daughter basketball. I know they're all big basketball. Yes absolutely thanks guys appreciate it. Thanks for the Best Bronx. Thanks for coming on eight. Thanks right sounds like Chris. Pronger rate had a Darren Gregor household. Moment they're getting sketchy you know. The the line was starting to buzz a little bit. Yeah and then. He talked about his dogs. Were GonNA bit Squirrelly because somebody was ringing the doorbell and he's trying to do seventeen things at once and man. Do I know that? Act every week on the podcast and knock on wood. We haven't heard tiny the raindrops hockey podcast mascot in this episode episode seventeen yet. So no one's we've heard tiny off air. It is such a deep rover whatever he does there right so but no. We're thanks to prongs for coming on the last defensemen to win the Hart Trophy You know an amazing player hall of Famer but he was involved a lot of shenanigans. How many times was he suspended eight? Yeah that's a lot and as he said you know sometimes just happen. You remember the one was it the Stanley Cup final. No seven with the ducks any tag. Dean mcammond Oh you mean rate to the button elbow to the head. If that happened now he'd get ten games that it was so and it wasn't even wasn't hidden. It was right in the middle of the ice now that at the time. Everyone's like well. It's one game in. The finals counts as two. Yes and we isolated a clip as part of the promotional work of the Rangers. Podcast where he talked about how. That's the only way he knows how to play and he was like that when he was six years old. Could you imagine you're just starting to skate? I assume Chris was tall when he was saying. It's probably about five eleven at that point. Could you imagine going out there? And you're like Oh my God that tall kid. He's he's mean I don't know if I want to play all right so he has three children. I don't know if we got entirely into this basketball players. Seventeen year old boy is six foot. Seven is fifteen year old is six foot three and hasn't hit puberty so like man the Dean's monsters all right. Who's your Throat Punch candidate? This week I I had to dig a little bit for this one and I don't think you're gonna like it but so because because I'm trying to let myself off the hook I want you to go first with your throat. Punch candidate for episode seventeen. Okay I'M NOT. I don't have a throat punch from this week. Okay so so I was thinking back. What's bugged me or Kinda irk me this year that in the last few weeks or a month or so that I'd that I'd like to use and so I came up with. I got a text in a game from players. Dad Talk about something that I had said on the air about his son and I never responded but I thought I am having a conversation if I choose to get into it with an NHL players. Dad like why would they? This is not Bantam. Like why would you care? I mean I know it's still your son and your emotionally attached. And you don't like that if somebody says something negative about your son but seriously don't send me any tax so ray water. It's a positive tax. What if dad tax you to say? Hey Ray I really appreciate your analysis on little billy's play. I really appreciate that. So feel free to send those but if if you want to critique it's like the old old line that coaches say okay. I've got an open door. Yeah so coming in discuss everything. But you'd better be ready for the answer. If if dad wants to debate like I'm all if he wants to debate something I said then I'll be honest. I love it. This might be my favorite punch of the year and NHL Hockey texting like right so when we see statal all hockey dad's or hot sport parents and then the guy's a pro like who cares if you're a pro enjoy your son planned in the best league in the world. There's there's advice okay. So so from my favorite throat punch of the season thus far too. I'm just going to say this one's lame but I'm thrilled protein. Whoever designed the ten point target for the NHL All-star and the reason is you know? I guess they had to build a frame for this thing so that it would hold the netting so that obviously would catch pucks in wouldn't fall over. I mean they're shooting from how far away up high but but a number of guys Martin are included. It looked like he had put three in the ten point. Target but one actually sailed over the outside frame through the whole and into the net and didn't count so whoever made that frame who designed that frame gets my throat punch. Well I'm not GonNa say it's lame because I understand. They wanted to try something new but that one kind of fell flat. Yeah because everybody just as you would you look out there and you're like oh if I shoot for the one in the middle that's the most points. Why would I shoot for the one before three points over there? That makes no sense. Brad Hall shanking. It took a piece of my heart. I get did I mean he. He just called shanked it. He wasn't even he almost hit the fans on the right side of the building. They needed netting all the way around. Yeah going to the only thing I but this was a approach still in his in his prime these at least retire you know like so he shakes it. You can youtube worst. Pga drive ever.

"Maybe you are getting frustrated. I never like to use that word. But you know me you know quietly. You're getting a little frustrated with either. How your team's playing? Maybe how you're playing and they'll get a pound of flesh and. Kinda make myself feel better and you know it says the message the other team it sends the message your team and and sometimes you know that game might be over but it's a message for the next game like not going to be so much easier the next game and You know that leaves a little bit of doubt in in your opponent and it's also a little wakeup call for your team like okay. Let's let's Kinda come come to play the next game and show up and and give it all you know prongs does it ever did you ever think about or maybe you don't at all but like I'm sitting here eight questions about being intimidating and the the way you played and not once have I got into how great a player you are. Hart Trophy Winner Hall of Famer. Did you ever think about what today's people know about you? And maybe they don't know how good you are. I think I think that's just a byproduct of really you know some especially some of the younger kids and not really having seen me play a ton. They were pretty young. Let's say a fifteen year old. I haven't played in almost ten years. You know like you think about it crazy and when I walk around here in St Louis I haven't been Worn a blue note and like sixteen years so when you start looking at the numbers in the timeframe like there's a lot of kids that I see here that are are my kids age. None of them would have seen me play here and you know. Let's see old school videos on the scoreboard and see the old Blues Games on TV. But a lot of them they gotta you know now. A Lotta guys go on YouTube. And they'll look at stuff and they hear the name but they don't really know and then they go on Youtube. Well it's a compilation of either bunch. It's a bunch of fights a bunch of slashes crosschecks goals. Whatever there's all you know so they only get to see like little short highlight package and they. They don't get to see the the consistency of might be impossible to compare then and now. But you're a senior adviser Paci operations for the Florida Panthers. So let's let's not talk about Florida will do that minute. But do you like today's game. You know you can't make the comparison when you know you and ray were rare heyday in the National Hockey League. Just pure from a skill perspective or how the game is played today. Are you a fan of how the game is played? I think at times there's certain teams that you're excited to watch the match up whether it's certain players or or the way a team plays thirteen game and and their concepts And then there's some games that there are no hitters in your like come on let's show some passion. I think that's one of the things that Partly has gone because of the way the game is played and some of the rules that been installed in in today's used and how they play the game so it takes away some of that electricity and that animosity and passion for for winning and how you know how the Games played and you know bringing it every night I think obviously the game is a thousand times faster and the skill level from player. One through player twenty-three is way higher than it was when I was done in in two thousand twelve. Even you know it just you know leaps and bounds with with what these kids can do having said that. I don't think the hockey sense is what it once was. You know because they've got stick handling coach or scanning coach their nutritionist. There are you know they don't have a hockey coach. They've got individual skill coaches for each little thing that they need to do on the ice and sometimes that part gets myths but I think when you see the mcdavid and the McKinnon's and obviously crosby all you know you're seeing the the total package and in what they in how they do what they do and at that speed that they do it not a lot of time to think and a Lotta time to react and they seem to figure out a way to do it all and it's you get to that elite level and it's It's impressive to see where the game is at with respect to star power and and you know you look at you know you're talking about Florida you're looking at Barkov. You look at You know you go down to Tampa Kucherov and Stamkos and all the guys got you look at each team and you kind of go through when you're okay. He he's a star and he you know it's The the League is chock full of stars now and chock full of players that night in and night out can make a difference on the game and whether you win or lose and it's I think the Games in good hands I think that the league is is striving because of that because of that star power and I think out as I mentioned with the bottom being pushed up with higher and higher skill levels. You're seeing you know for a while. There are two people were complaining. That's going down and this that and the other thing we'll the fourth line on a lot of nights are better skaters in the first line is and when when you have that that parody amongst the players and you got a fourth line where. I'm sure rake and tell you. He used to be looking at jobs when he got to play against the fourth line. Like oh alright cookies. Yeah exactly then. You weren't so happy but they had to catch your first and then now you look like there's a lot of nights a fourth line. That's the matchup is they want the fourth line against the first line and then you have other Other options to use in match ups and things like that so it's it creates. It gives a coach a lot more ability to mix and match and and try to get mismatches and things of that nature. So there's I think there's a much bigger chestnuts going on then. Then maybe there was before you're matching your top two and then you got your shirt and you got your money you know. Now it's a lot of times when you're the road I know everybody's got a preference for a match up but you know they're they're just gonNa roll lines for awhile. I think and then see how it plays out because they trust the players and they trust their talent or skill level so I think the Games in a good spot you know and and that I'd love to see a little bit more passion on a nightly basis but the playoffs last couple of years have been phenomenal and and last year. There was a lot of my thought. A lot of great games and and physical Long series that kind of showcase. What are playoffs are all about? And why they're the hardest cup started stroke to win. So you're you're in management with Florida but last year you bring the Stanley Cup up your your back in Saint Louis with the alumni in looked like you guys had a good time by the way I think if you guys did I thought the guy I thought they were no but I thought players we're going to have to wrestle the Stanley Cup back from some of the alumni guys back. I think they thought it was like a team thing from for fifty years. I know how much fun with prongs to see all the guys you played with and I I was only there for a short while. But you guys were just like so connected. The whole the whole community. It looked awesome. Yeah it was great to see. You know I think for the longtime guys like a bobby plager- and you know that. That era of player with Reuss applic- and Blake Dunlop. And and the chase her. All all the guys that have kind of come up through the years. And and to kind of see it come to fruition. The way it did and storybook season that they had was you know it was great to see for the city of Saint Louis and the fans and and Kinda the emotions that came pouring out from everyone and and the way they took all the way. The team was playing and the style of play that they were playing that hard nose physical size in your face. It was It was a lot of fun to watch the Games because they played a style that I liked them. And I think Kinda emulated the the city and the way. This city likes to see their team play so it was a perfect fit than a and I think just the Ron but the way. The playoffs unfolded with all the different odd situations. The hand pass in San Jose series. And how chief handled it? I mean that that right there to me kind of summed up Kinda what. That team was all about the way he handled. The you know not losing his marbles not really just say games over. Let's go next game you know. Let's not focus on what's happened. Let's focus on what we can do next and and keeping the room on task and the players on point as to what was needed what they needed to do and how they needed to do it and you saw that the way they came out the next game and I think that really showed growth in the team and growth I think in the organization. You really hear much. It was very very quiet which was pretty impressive to see. Because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to stay quiet but it was I think to a Man. I think they probably went in the locker room. Probably had a few things to say I'm sure a lot of the guys were were upset but realize that you know what we can. We can complain or we can just go play and and with everything that they'd been on through the course that year. I think all the adversity that they faced. I think they probably look at it as just another challenge and another way to you. Know Kinda beat the odds. Was it weird for you being part one organization but obviously you're cheering for the blues. It was it was Yeah I WANNA go to too much stuff. And they asked me to do the video during the Stanley Cup finals and I called Dale and kind of asked him. I said listen. They WANNA do this video. He's God it's fine. Whatever I don't care you know it's it's no big deal you're an alumnus and you know said all right you know you know the end of the day. I think that's what's great. It's your growing the game. It's about advancing our game further and and trying to promote so that younger generation and you know their parents can see me on the screen and go. I remember watching him. And then they tell their kid and on and on and on and and if it's just a bunch of you know all the players are busy preparing so it's you know a bunch of old guy me and holly and and Bobby plager- and Bernie and you know I think it's as as it goes along or they're getting to see kind of the old faces from the past and then you know the young faces win it and You know I think that's what's what's cool about the game and and Nice about especially our alumni here in. Saint Louis is Everybody's so invested in the community and and trying to advance the game a hockey minor hockey and obviously the stuff that the blues do Is is first and foremost that at the top and and what the game hockey's all about is bringing people together and and and allowing us to participate in sport and socialize and do all the things that we do on young young trips and things like.

"I mean it's just sticking it to the owners one more time intentional or not. I mean not again speaks to. What is a real legit rivalry in the National League? Okay when Jose Batista had the Bat Flip in Toronto when they had that crazy seventh inning In the in the playoffs if united mind that either okay but at the time I hated it. I'm like man you hit your home run you should be pomp and you throw your arms up in the air if you want and because a lot of things had gone on to build the momentum to that moment much like riddick's poke check last night but I didn't like it the more I thought about it. I'm like why don't I like it like that's crazy not to like it like we want the players to show emotion and they've clearly there was so much built into that. And when when I look at it now and I see the highlights of Batista's flip the backflip. I'm like of course he should have done that. Like that was that was great. I would've I would've wanted to do the same thing for sure. So when I saw David Riddick yesterday we we talk about all. It's entertainment as well while man the guys pumped he's in the other building and he's it's like a mic drop like. I thought it was awesome. Yeah and remember. Last year he had they were in overtime. And Johnny gdre think they were in Denver and Gujral had a breakaway in overtime. And before it was in the net riddick had his arms up in the air. He was way out in front of the crease. And I'm like man that's part of his personality. Other guys aren't going to do it but he did. And I don't have a problem with it at all. I'll tell you what if that's me. I'm riding my stick and I'm slapping. My backside do everything within my own realm of possibility to piss off the wall. And you know that they're looking at it and they're like screw you pal. Like they hope riddick play Saturday. They hope they can get one hundred twenty three goals on him right like they just they don't they wouldn't like it but I thought it was. I thought it was actually a pretty cool ending to a terrific night hockey. It really truly was. It's episode seventeen of the rain rigs hockey podcasts. We've got Chris pronger standing by as we've alluded to Ray. Let's get into this week's top five headlines. The presentation of our bowels at lagaras jewelers. You can check them out at LAGARAS DOT com for all of your Valentine's Day shopping needs to remember use code Ray ten and you'll save big box. Lagarto DOT com earlier in the season. You referred to the Vancouver canucks Raymond as the best team in Canada now in fairness it was early in the season and they went through some tough times. Some Dark Times Ashley. Right after I said that here like oh thanks. Yeah in that market. You probably took some heat. It was my fault but back on top in the Pacific division a bit of a sloppy division to say the least but Diaz stand by that claim today given the fact that they've gone through adversity they faced some challenges and they've come together as a team. I still I think if I were do select today I would. I would have Toronto in front of them. Only by a miniscule margin. I Vancouver's the type of team. That would be a bear to play against in a playoff series and In talking with Travis Green. Their head coach one of the things he said that That is really a strength of their team. Is they kind of figure it out themselves? The players like as they play. What's their best style? What's their best way of playing? And they are aggressive. They're fast the really skeet. Like push the pace travis. Wants them to be aggressive in almost every spot around the ice. They've gotten excellent goaltending. Whether it's Jacob Marks Jerome or fatter dempo who was unreal against Saint Louis the other night They've got this consistent high end production from Quin Hughes. Who's had a terrific year? He scored in San Jose last night. Jt Miller been outstanding the best year of his career. Elliot's Patterson is is a star legit star and And then bullhorn VAT his. He's shown I think the reason that they selected him as the captain and he plays this all over the ice style. He takes more face offs than anybody in the League but Ryan Riley and I've left brock besser because he's kind of been put in a little bit of a secondary role. They wanted some balance in their scoring. And the guy that's exploded as Jake Virtanen got fifteen goals now right so i. I like their team a lot. I mean the the biggest challenge I mean. I look at those five teams in the in the division Arizona Vegas Edmonton Calgary and Vancouver. And I don't see anyone that's any better than anybody else I think they're kind of all the same So if you if you fall into a three week slump and you you play nine games and you only pick up a few points that might be enough to put you in a hole that you can't get out of looking so tight and I don't. I don't see anybody running away. I don't really see anybody falling apart. I'll be really interested to see if somebody can make a significant addition At the deadline. That like this could be the one area where a really good player changes the balance of a team's future in this year right and I don't get the sense in talking with connects management that Jim Benny's likely to do a whole heck of a lot as he's made clear to local media in Vancouver most of your shopping was done in the offseason. And I don't know that the Vancouver canucks need to add. But let's switch divisions to the central because the Winnipeg jets as we talked about on insider trading on Tuesday our most definitely identifying top four defenceman. They need some help. They've needed help all season long and the truth is if they don't find help they may be in store for a better draft pick in June than than what they were. Thinking is an absolute. Must that shoveled off? Gozo does whatever is possible to acquire that defenseman. No and the reason I say I mean yes from a on the ice standpoint hundred percent. I mean I did three games at the end of Jenn. What's January now I guess when the heck was it I guess it was two weeks ago. A couple of weeks. Oh Man I don't know one day anyway. I did three games in a row with the jets and in that time they were really excited to get Dmitri Kulikov and Lucas visa back in the lineup and with all due respect to guys who play in the NHL though should not be game changing guys that come back in. But Paul Maurice's had I don't know how many defensemen he's had to shuffle in and out and around the lineup and and then they're you know so that's Maurice's problem Kevin. Chevrolet offs problem is that he's trying to build as good a team as he can. He's got a six point. Seven million dollar hole in the middle of the Roster Drake's. Maybe you know this. Why does the dust in Buffalo in arbitration takes so long like? Is it not like okay? Everybody here's the date running your paperwork. Let's get going on well to be fair Ray. I believe that the players association isn't pushing to schedule a date because nobody is convinced that dust in buffalo is common back either this season or at all so I guess at some point. There's going to be a reason for challenging loss dollars but maybe there won't be. Maybe that'll be part of the case of the National Hockey League. If he just decides that he can't come back that that he's done so I think the Players Association and the League for that matter. I want a better handle on whether or not this guy has any intention of coming back before they expedite that process. Well well how are you GONNA know? Well he's going to be getting you can use right right like you're you're gonNA ask him because I would say you know that can be a yes or no and it really. Does that mean anything right so I I just think it's I think from the NHL Perspective. I'm surprised that a member team is stuck in limbo. Like this young. It's not fair to them. At drags you know. I side with the player. Ninety nine and a half percent of the time and this is the other half. I don't think it's fair to the jets. I don't think it's fair to their fans that they have. This unresolved issue that you know. We never know really what goes on behind the door but it just seems to be hang in there and so the reason I say that Kevin Chevrolet off. The general manager shouldn't necessarily go ahead and do whatever he can is to add. A top four is A. I wouldn't be interested in a rental player. They they gave up a first round pick. Two years ago for Paul Staff Nate and he was outstanding. Last year it was for Kevin Hayes and that fell flat. I mean they were trying. They were in a position they felt they. They could make a difference in act two years ago they almost made made it Stanley Cup finals right now. So but you've blown. Oh first round picks now. I know they've acquired some in the trades that that They've brought back. But if you make the playoffs which would be iffy even if you get a top four guy like if you're in like how much damage can you really do? So I don't know if this is the time be blown out assets. I know the people in Winnipeg. Don't love to hear that but it doesn't matter what happened a few years ago. You're you're in today and you can't you can't blow out assets even though they do have some very very good young prospects coming we see them at the world. Juniors that means there are a couple of years away or eighteen months away. We see those guys. They're in a tough spot and they're they're in a tough spot but I I wouldn't. I wouldn't chase it at all costs. We're we're GONNA talk about the Maple leafs in the Montreal Canadian shortly but just timely you were in Nashville for the leafs and the pres- on Monday so if we stay within the central here the Nashville predators man are they as bad as they look because when I watch the natural predators. I don't see even remotely a level a consistent level of compete. Well I I was really disappointed them. Coming out of the break Now Toronto dominated that game. It was Toronto's first game out of the break and it was nationals first game in Toronto dominated that game virtually the whole night.

"From utilize partnership with tsn. Welcome to episode. Seventeen of the ray and drags hockey. Podcast I'm in Brooklyn on -Tario Raya somewhere near Vancouver. In his palatial compound a state is what the Ferrara family likes to refer to it. As early this morning. It is early right now. It is early. You're looking fresh though I I mentioned this. I mean it's as we record us here on Thursday. It's six twenty eight. Am Pacific and aside from. Maybe not needing shave you. Look you look fresh. I'm glad to know that you notice. I've had a beard for three years. Like why why would I have? Why would I shave? But do you call it a beard when it's not really a full beard like when. I don't WanNa Look. I don't WanNa look like the guys like the you know the players who let it grow all the way. Oh by you know. I mean I'm not doing that. And besides it would be way too gray so so. You're of Italian descent if you wanted to like. Could you literally grow your beard and ours? Are you one of those men not if you sneeze? Your beard grows like a quarter of an inch. Yeah I know I would say my brother has got. He's got that side of the of the genetics where he'd Shave in the morning. And then if you really gave a damn he'd shaven but is that goes. Yeah but he doesn't. He's like yes. Whatever so we've got a great podcast coming up. We've got Chris pronger with the Florida Panthers but obviously he's a Saint Louis Native. That's where he makes his home so he'll join US coming up in the PODCAST. Shortly we've gotTa talk about a few things and we're going to do it here in the opening but let's go back to the all star because we had Jane Halford as as part of episode sixteen terrific guest. She coached team. Canada Against Cami Cammi GRANATO coaching team. Usa and as everybody knows Canada. Beat the Americans in that three on three women's game as part of the Nhl all-star event we saw Cami and team USA unload ton of Budweiser handing over as part of the bet to the Canadians. The winners was their side. Deal in the Ferraro house like on either between you and Cami or did you have something because you're an awkward spot right. I mean. Of course you're Canadian. You Cheer for Canada but there is that marital thing there is that I I always hope Cami team win gentle cheer without cheering against Canada. So I was Kinda hoping for two to tie and then they would figure out something else. You can listen to the podcast and When she heard of the deal with the fantasy bat for you and I were basically you pay the bet without paying it. She's like this is brilliant. And so you can throw your hands in the air if you want but you got out of a bet you're paying nothing and you suck you stink up ground now. You're giving up too much information or that's later in the podcast. People have been listening for sixteen episode. People been listening for sixteen episodes. Well aware of your position in this thing and by the way I didn't propose to cool but by the way cool that dot. Co they came to us. They came to us Rei and they suggested that they helped me out in Switzerland. If I had any pride you would say thank you for that but but no I really deserve or I really need to pay this bat. So in other words No there was no side bet. Budweiser came up. Large and the girls have fun. There was not left on that trae that cart that That that was work through pretty well and I also noticed that are pals from spitting checklists delivered to cases of that seems to be a lot. That's aggressive and like we're the ladies supposed to just pour that down prior to three like its vodka for heaven's sake yeah. I think the idea was to get through the game. I think that was the thought engine. Wish did you check the water bottle. You weren't there so obviously didn't perhaps Cami should have data. That's the old the old barely guys bottles you go. He's got a couple of guys that are got some foreign substance in. There's so we let just full disclosure. We recorded the interview with Chris. Bronner on Wednesday with purpose. Were not recording episode. Seventeen until this morning which is Thursday morning because both of us wanted to tune in to the battle of Alberta last night right the big rematch between the Edmonton. And the Calgary flames. You know the outcome the flames winning a shootout four three any part of that game in the build up disappoint you I aside from the right nugent-hopkins fight with SEAN. Monahan was was amusing. It was certainly unexpected. We expected CASSIE and to go and and they did but generally speaking. It's it's one of the better games that I've watched. I think this season isn't it amazing? As much as the skill that we all trumpet and Love It soon as there's conflict in a physical sport the game moves to another level. And so the animosity that had built up over the last couple of weeks and position in the standings made the game important and so you have friction. You have contact or a a contrast of the way the teams looking incident and you have conflict and that always makes the game no matter when it is better than than it might be otherwise. I mean how many people are on. Were on twitter saying man. Please a first round playoff series. I thought I thought the game was fantastic nugent-hopkins and Monaghan looked to guys at never fight. And I know because that's I don't know if my fights ever had that many punches but they were that unstylish you're the first guy I thought of and I mean this with great respect when those two guys dropped the gloves. I'm thinking I don't know like like who would be an equal Ray FERRARO verses cooed. You fight that would compare to nugent-hopkins and Monaghan we're fighting. Maybe the worst fighting. Nhl History was me and Garry Galley. And Gary Galleys. Actually a big dude. He is but he doesn't know how to fight either. It was so bad we fought and I think we got four minutes for roughing not always the most embarrassing thing is. You're in a fight and they give you the whole minor for roughing. You're like they can't even give me five for that. Which has happened a few times this and there's a conspiracy theory out there that the NHL is doing it. Just to keep fighting majors down right now. I think they just want to say to the back in the day I think they. You guys don't know what you're doing. You're embarrassing the game. Keep your gloves on. Not Getting what go go say. Drake's I love the game. I thought you know the intensity of it. How fast it was you could tell. It meant something so I was. I was all into that. Yeah a couple of separate incidents aside from the two fights and I liked. Just wrap the Kassian Kabq fight. I like how both responded post game to Zack. Kassian showing professionalism and respect to Matthew Chuck by acknowledging that. Hey you know. The kids stood up for himself. You can't ask for more than that. And then matthew explaining that he didn't feel like he had the fight. He wanted to fight mostly because of the number of punches. He took the last time they played. So that's fair enough for me. I think everybody can move on a some people. Don't like it. Some people like it. Some people are always trying to define what's in the code and none of us really know because the reason it's unwritten is because there is no real code. It's just a feel for how things should go and that was about. It's perfect example of what the code might might include. And so I was. I was happy that look at look at fights like I used to when I when I see two guys. Fight the first thing. I hope nobody gets hurt right right because we've seen too many guys get take one then and they're hurt yeah So the Fight Happen. That was it It seems like that's a bow on it however I can't imagine that the oilers are too thrilled with Marcher. Dano today yeah it's funny because we had as you mentioned. We had Chris pronger on yesterday and he he talked about because of course it had he been in that game yesterday he would have been in the middle of something for sure one hundred percent and he he mentioned that you know. It's not like you go out there and you're trying to hurt somebody. A play happens fast. Stick Lego here a hippo. Dare and that's basically what happened and John was beat and he sticks his leg out and and because it's David or even if it wasn't mcdavid but especially because it was mcdavid right. I mean that rightfully so he's passed and he and he should be. And so I. I CAN'T IMAGINE EDMUND. Inside is is too thrilled with that. No but look so I I did the Edmonton Radio Earlier this morning Dustin Nielsen and we talked about it and and I want your view on this. Now there's a history of of Marcher Nanno doing us. He has a history yet. I don't believe he's a dirty player. I think it's exactly as you described. There's a flat-footed defenseman. Maybe he's losing his mobility as every player does they get and he sees ninety seven. Common Adam Belvin speed to the neutral zone. He knows he's he can't turn and catch as he goes by so just natural instinct. Isn't it to throw an elbow? Get a Lego. Just try and do something to get a piece for sure it is and with. It comes the consequence of the you know. It's a dangerous play I I don't I don't ever think of him as a dirty player. No but this is a good move. It's dirty play now penalty. Yes it's a penalty for sure. Yeah so so. The as I won't say as a guy gets older because I mean I guess well as a guy gets older. That's one way but also there's there's guys just aren't as mobile as others. That's a defense defense men's decision every time. Do they back off or do they or are they close enough that the gap can be tight and they can take them away and so you're donald got caught and so really? The two options are trying to stick your hip or knee out and hope you get enough of them to slow him down or just let them go by and not not initiate any contact right. Neither is a very good option. Well it feels the next one and we're kind of dating ourselves when we look to Saturday. I mean this is episode. Seventeen but you know we do have to look into the future Will there be any follow up. And then Furthermore David. The goaltender for the Calgary flames. I don't know if you liked it. I love the backflip. After the poke check on Leandra side shoot..

"And I needed that guys like. I needed that because I was on the verge of bailing. Because I was hurting I would look at it. I'm still scared but I was hurting and I was scared and the caretakers and caregivers out there we have to make sure we're looking out for them as well like my. I never saw my wife down and never saw her week. I never saw her worried around me but I sure to hell no is that. When she wasn't around me she would let her guard down in in in. Be Worried so we need to make sure now checking on the people that are sick but also we need to look after the caretakers and caregivers. Because they're going after a they're going through a lot mentally so we need to make sure we're taking care of them and that's something my wife and I have put our our hearts into to making sure that we are all taking care of the caretakers and caregivers but that for me got me back on my feet. Look it we cried. I cried for about an hour after that. Trust me I mean I hugged my wife and I you know I just was like okay. I'm GONNA okay now I. I'm going to get back on track. Your I'm just GonNa go one day at a time not gonNA worry about the next treatment. I'm not going to worry about February twenty first or you know if I don't feel good then okay. I don't feel good but you know so for me that was that was the turning point In my battle and I know there are a lot of people out there that are listening or no people that have gone through it and can really relate and The taxed the calls both of you guys at the forefront of that Um in reaching out to let you know to let me know that you guys were thinking about me here just to talk It helps a lot of people. Don't know they feel like you're bothering them or they feel like you're don't know what to say but just being yourself and getting into your relationship with that person goes a long way so you know. I know there's a lot there but for me That second treatment is where I needed to get straightened out and Diana check Grabbed me by the short hairs and pretty much set me straight and I put back my hockey helmet on and got back that mentality that we all have in his great game and that helped me get through because It certainly tested me and tested. you know my my will to live and proud to say that. I'm going on two years cancer free and got a big scam coming up in March and The farther away from February twenty first of twenty nineteen Better you know the the better that I feel so Very I'm sorry eighteen. Sorry Twenty Eighteen You know the better and more confident that I feel so very lucky. Very blessed with all the help that had the support And the team of doctors that I had a very very lucky for for all the prayers as well. I can't even imagine any the changes that you under go through that whole battle and the time line that you were laying out for us. What's different about Eddie Olczyk? Today than three years ago or Ray. Hook it in our relationship. There's there's there's no bull it's like you know. Tell me what I need to know. Not What I wanNA hear right like th that's that's us that's that's that's and it's like that's what it is honestly ray. I think what helped me get through? I was very much it piece when I was going through my battle because the most important people in my life have always known how important they are to me and how much I love them and I always tell my wife and I would tell my kids you know. Look at God forbid if something would happen to me you know you need to tell me that you know how much I love you and how much better my life has been with you in it you want and they all would say the same thing. I'll stop it stop talking. Nothing's going to happen. Stop but all day today. The big picture. Right like drags you know when you got when you got GM's and coaches calling and texting and telling you you know yeah this guy's day to day or the coaches made it while you know and the big picture we all day today really like all day right so for me Ray. That my my feelings me being at peace with the most important people in my life knew how I felt about them. That helped me get through like I've always told those people my my feelings and that helped me get through the toughest time of my life because look at if they told me. That's all you've had fifty one and a half years you've done all of this. You've had some great friends. You've had incredible family. You've done everything that you could imagine. But it's time I was okay with it. I was at peace because there was no stone unturned. There was no person out there. That hidden made an impact on me and my life and the most important thing in my life didn't know how I felt about them and that really helped me get through and what I like to say. Is that if you read the book and no Ray? There are any crayons with this book. Just for the record. I know you were dying. Krantz this book. Berry impressed agent but but I tell people I hope you do two things one is. I hope you laugh a little into is. I hope you'll love a little bit more and that helped me get through like it really did so ray. You know what I in when I reflected. I am more proud now of what I've been able to accomplish in my life personally. Most importantly my family my four kids and my wife my friends at my hockey career like like before I got sick. You Know I. I was very proud of what I've accomplished I was. I was proud but I think when I was sick. And and when you're sick like that you have enough quiet time. The last you a lifetime so I had a lot of time to reflect. I spent seventeen hours a day in our basement. I that's where I live for six months and I look back at my career and I feel more proud now in look back at what I accomplished in my hockey life as well as my personal and go you know what you know. What yeah you know. You were a pretty good player. You accomplished a lot and I don't think I ever looked at that it it. I looked at it that way before. I got sick so really if anything ray I think it reassured me I was in a great place personally professionally but then I had a time to reflect and I said you know what regardless of what some people may say. And that's what makes the world go round. I I did pretty good but I really don't I really don't I know it's long winded but I. There was important to talk about those two specific areas. Honestly Ray I don't I don't look. I don't look at things any differently. I really don't appreciate anything more so I think what it did with me. Being sick is it just reassured me that I was in a really good place before and now I know I'm in a really good place after and that's really. The heart of the book is that if I can have one person get through the day her help them get through their battle or to keep them away from having to go through what I did. Look it just doesn't have to be cancer. It could be anything I mean. Life is a battle. Look at it I was. I was bullied as a as a young kid. And as a hockey player I mean I had. It was in the hockey news. I mean it was an hockey news. Where a former coach of mine said you know? Jeeze Eddie Olczyk. Oh you know he'll he'll have a good. Nhl Career if he doesn't eat his way out of the NHL well. What's wrong with the hungry hockey player I ask and to? I'm chocolate guy right race. You know what's what's what's wrong with that but like look at if I would say that on. Tv DOWN HERE. In the states on NBC. Where if there was a player out there and I would critique him in and talk about his you know his weight or or you know I mean they would be taken look. It's different world today. I understand that but to think about that like that. It did bother me. You know but look I ended up playing sixteen years in a league and you know I mean look the rest is history but so a lot of that is in the book and and I think it's all ages. I really do. I think he could be relatable to to anybody. That obviously loves our game or is in a battle and I'm I'm very proud of that. And in Perry left. Go who drags you mentioned a little bit earlier. I mean he did a wonderful job a guy that I know extremely well from my days in Toronto and obviously he's a award winning horse racing writer as well so certainly that played into it. But I'm hoping that I'm hoping that people when they pick it up and read it They'll they'll laugh a little and the love a little bit more and if I could make an impact that way then it was well worth the sixteen months pen to paper of doing the book. Well no question. You've made an impact heads and we'll continue to do so. He is Eddie Olczyk. The book is beating the odds in hockey and in life. We've kept you long enough. Thank you for your honesty your courage Edsall and through it all an incredible sense of humor. What we love you guys Drake's and I look forward to I look forward to seeing you guys on the road. You guys do an amazing job. You're not only great friends of mine and people that I respect but you guys do an amazing job for our great game and there are so many there are so many great people in our game But we need more people in our game just like you guys so I appreciate you guys having me on your podcast and and what I read the when I read the promotion in the advertisement for the Ray Drake's or the dregs and ray podcast. It says you guys like to have a wee bit of fun we have A. We bit of fun today. That's what I wanted with that right. That's what I WANNA know Ed. So you accomplish that you you get a chocolate dessert for this today. Oh that's a shot. Now that is a way to end a segment so and love you guys. Happy New Year. And I'll see you guys down the road you bet any. Thanks a lot love. You Buddy got sick love you. We've had many guests on the rain. Dregs hockey.

"I think what I proved to myself is how much I love the game And knew how important You know the best players on the team but also the guys that are there to to You don't push you to keep the guys loose Make them laugh and stretch the Tiv every once in a while which ended up being my role in that team and in ninety four with with the Rangers. Look at my role was installed even before. The season started Mike in and our coach came into get into the locker room and in our practice facility at In Rye New York play land in in In Our facility there and you came in and he had this great video showing all the championships in New York. And you know all the different sports and video of you know when the Rangers won back in nineteen forty and you know great just great music and you know it's just upbeat right like okay. This is the start of the year. Whatever and he goes around the room we got twenty six twenty seven guys because back then there was no cap and you could carry a hundred guys if you want. It's a Lotta guys in a room. So he starts off as meeting and he goes around he looks at Mount Mark Messy and he goes. You know you're going to be you know you're going to score the goal in game seven to win the Stanley Cup for us for the first time in nineteen forty and you're going to be the first ranger to touch the Stanley Cup Brian. Leetch you're going to be the best defenseman Adam Graves. You're going to score fifty goals issue. Joey Kosher if anybody touches Mark Messier GonNa kick his ass and then he goes in Eddie olczyk PAS PAS baas pause Baas Baas you might not play all year long but you're gonNA have a role on this team and I'm like she's like okay here. We go You know I did matter if I was going to be there and and that was my role and I knew right from that meeting like I knew right from that meeting and of course good friend Glenn Ely of course comes up to me goes on. You'RE GONNA you're GonNa with me a lot this year I co- You're unbelieveable heels. But you know like that's that was the hand that was dealt and have my name on the Stanley Cup. I'm so proud of it. Look at I had very little to do Obviously on the ice for what we accomplished. But I will say that as I I. I am very proud of the impact that I had off the ice to be one of the leaders on that team with the leaders that we had up and down that lineup And also to to to be voted players player by my teammates. is Is is the players player year. We won the Stanley Cup for a guy. Then I guess that had very little impact on the ice certainly met a lot and that's the greatest You know that's the greatest award that I got individually in. My career was to to get that award on a on a team that had obviously some incredible leaders but to be recognized by my teammates You know obviously I handled it the right way and very proud to been arranger and when that Cup in ninety four. We're going to transition a little bit here to talk about your your fantastic book beating the odds in hockey and in life and I was telling Darren Before we got on I remember exactly where it was. It was a Sunday morning. I was in Seattle Cami and I in the boys were down for a little weekend getaway and and I had gone down to lobby to get a coffee and there's phone call from you and so I'm I'm happy. It's Ed Zone. 'cause you're not a foreign guy you're attacks sky and so really excited. I'm like oh I wonder what's up so I'm like. Hey how you doing in you said. I tell you honestly I've never really been knocked off my feet by phone. Call like this before and it was when you told me that you were sick and I I mean right to the core and I can't help but wonder as you were making those calls to people like what was going through your head like like I was scared just to hear it. I can't even imagine where you were and and I guess I wonder like how. How did you just get started on the road? Eddie to try to get healthy. Yeah well there's a lot there ray. And obviously it's very emotional Sensitive you know time in my life and it always be with me. I mean cancer will always be a part of your life but I think I initially Ranger is that you know when when you are told that you're sick and obviously for me look at. I woke up one day and I couldn't go to the bathroom like I couldn't go number two and that was a normal for me and then when it goes two days then. I'm like Oggi's there's something wrong right and the next thing you know. I'm having a six hour surgery in the removing fourteen inches of my colon. And they're taking out a tumor the size of my of my fist. You know and then they're calling me on August fourth at seven seven. Pm On a Friday night. That you have stage three colon cancer recommending chemotherapy for the next six months. And you know and they will reassess from there. I mean the first thing I thought of was okay. Well you know how long do I have? You know like really like you know. Am I going to die But making those phone calls ray which I made the most important people in my life immediately. you feel like you've let people down you've you've worried them you You know stop people in their tracks. That that's what I felt when I would make those calls to notify people that that needed to be notified because they've had such important impact on my life is to hear it from me and to say look like I'm sick. This is what they're telling me and I'M GONNA fight and I'm going to battle hard as they can But like that's what I that's what I felt It's it's emotional. I remember talking to you. And it's it's hard even to this day to remember. Think about that conversation. Because you're letting somebody in your life that means a lot to your. You know you're telling them that you're sick and now you're affecting them right like that's just the domino effect and I've had this conversation sadly with thousands of cancer patients and a lot of us. Feel the same way as where you feel weak. You feel less. You feel like you become a burden not only on your family but your friends and your job and the people that love you and you know and it's it's not you know you're sick but you don't you know people didn't feel like I was letting them down or you know purposely worrying them. It's just that's how you feel and I think just being honest ray like I was with you and you know dregs contacting you after and it's just one of those things where you just say. Okay look I'm you know I almost felt better. Because here's what happened guys. Is that what I was what I was sick and I could go to the bathroom in between that time and then me going publicly about my stage. Three colon cancer battle. I had horse racing periods of parents that I had to cancel. There was a charity hockey game. That I put my my my my two oldest boys Eddie and Tommy were playing in and I was gonNA play in I you know I was in no shape to to be out in public let alone go play hockey game. So I had to cancel their cancelled an autograph appearance. I you know there are a lot of people that were not only say upset with me but I gave them my word that I would. You know. Be there and then now. I'm canceling so my kids and my family had you know. Had to make excuses for me and then I was like look. Initially I WANNA just go hide under a rock and not tell anybody but you know when you're in the so called public. I like we are in our little world. It's hard to just go. No go dark you know to go away and I actually felt better. Believe it or not dregs and razor. I almost felt better when the when it became public And just say look. I'm sick I'm GONNA do everything I can fight through this battle and go from there. So you know the strain that I put on my friends my family my wife. Diana of you know almost thirty two years. You know being there every day Being the caretaker and caregiver of seeing me go through my forty. Eight hours of Chemo every other week for six months and look I talk about it in the book but I my second treatment is where I was going one way and my white grabbed me and got me back on the straight narrow because the razor you know me better than anybody drags. We know each other very well. I've never quitted anything in my life like we're all wired a certain way and for me whether I was down in a game. Coaching a game. I'm at the race track down. I'm not giving up until it's over and look. I went through my second treatment of chemotherapy. I was in it and I was at home and my side effects brought me to my knees like cancer test. You will to live The chemotherapy really does change you. It it it battles you and my side effects were look at full disclosure At nosebleeds had terrible headaches neuropathy in my fingers and my in my in my feet I would thumb it and I would just go to the bathroom without being able to control it like I would just look at. I would just shit the floor. I had no control over that and I told my wife I'm done I quit I. I'm done I see. How am I gonNA get through treatment to which is September fifteenth of two thousand seventeen? How am I gonNA get through today? Let alone get through February twenty. First when they were going to unhook me for the last time. Hopefully and I was going to put this in a rear view mirror and I look at. I had a port and my chest. Were I had a fanny pack that I would wear for. Forty eight hours in the chemotherapy would go through. This wire hooked up to my chest and it would go off every ninety seconds in that sound could still hear it today. It's just a and I have this medicine shooting in to me and I'm just like I can't. I can't live like this and my wife grabbed me. And this is where the so-called tsn turning point. If I could use that Happened for Eddie Olczyk in my cancer battle and my wife grabbed me and she looked at me and she says you're not quitting. You GotTA fight for.

"Oh Gosh those were the days razor somebody now. We're in a great team but we we had some characters through there right. It's like the air before you got there. Kevin Air there and we've got these young guys. They've called up from the American League Team. Which late in the year. We're on the power play. And he's got. The coach has got these four guys that had just been called up and Kevin sitting there on the power play. We're sitting on the bench and Kevin's like four guys away from me. And he yells down meet so of course you know our voices so loud. He's like raise it. You get a load of this power play. I said Yeah I see he goes no. You can't have loaded these characters on the power play mad we were and you show up and now we've got now we've got another avenue for this so we get this. Guy Kai Nurminen who they sign from. Finland Kai was a super nice guy but intensity the NHL was not for him and you came up with a pretty good nickname for him because he had a thigh injury. Yeah so so drake. Here's here's what happened so we're playing there on and off with you know playing with different guys on the team. Larry Robinson coach Rick Green Jaybird right H J league. Jay Leach was our coach. You know. And so Elliott good bunch of guys. Blakey was there mentioned Doug Easy I mean you know Byron before you know it. Great guys great guys. We had some you know some some new guys and just learning the NHL so so kind and was You know he was like A. He was like Miroslav furniture back in the day with the Toronto. Maple leafs one of my former teammates with the league is that he was like you know he's like that type of player so so we're playing. We're playing a game and it's the three of us so I bought back from center to wing and it's me Ray in in by so we go out there and you know we're going up the ice or whatever and you know razors got the puck and I go to the net and then you know Kai drops in behind ray and you know whatever nothing happened. We dumped it in the corner and then we changed. We came back. So we're sitting on the bench in Chi- is sitting in between me and ray and I could hear Kyko real. Yeah what do you want Did you not see me? What are you talking about Rosa? I was three meters behind. You three meters three. How how far is three meters? I have no clue is at seven hundred feet. Is that thirty feet. So that's what we were dealer with. Dregs we had a guy. It was three meters. I do like is that close as far I I have no clue so we pray the rest of the game and we come back and all of a sudden kyw disappears like he's come up lame like he's not playing he's not skating so you know we find out that you know. We got a Charley Horse. So we don't feel for a couple of days he comes in and go tell you what's the matter? Oh my you know my leg. My Si- hurts so I'm Blake Drake's he opened the door says my Si- her and I'm like well you have just become Feinerman. You not tied Nermin anymore. You're by so from then on. That's or until I got traded at the deadline which is about four months later. He would walk in the room I go. Hey fine how are you doing? He goes no no. It's so it's my name. Is Chi Chi? Go Cy are you. Yes yes my hurts I go. You are now fighting Herman so urban. And now looking. It's I mean about it like it is like probably immature. But look at your talk to your listening soon right pal. That made us laugh more than anything. I think that whole year right right. How many years ago? That's twenty three twenty four years later we still laugh about five at any time. A guy gets a Charlie or in the league or something happens There isn't a text that doesn't fly by a razor. What what what do you think is doing right now in? Ray knows exactly what we're doing exactly what we're talking about. Yeah I know immature Drake's but you know what that's not. I'm not going to argue that point. I'm not gonNA argue that at all and so you bring up a texting and dregs and I were discussing this. Nobody tax like you do like where did develop. I appreciate them. Because when you get a text from Eddie at usually about ten text bars long and included in it is twelve words. Yeah because he writes two words sans it then types to more. I don't know if you your thoughts would appear in there. The apple two letter abbreviation. It takes work through this. Where did you come up with this? Do you know who I mean. Do you know who's texting you. That do you ever forget my need to read it. You're right there. You go there you go. That that is less is more all right. I was told that somewhere along the light of my life lessons more looking. I know I'm not a text I sent. Zeros is is circles or circles zero. My Kids Bust my chops. I look at You know I don't I don't if I'm paying for your your cell service than don't bust my chops on like I could easily cut off the seven hundred seven hundred phones that we have in our family. It seems like so. I don't know what I learnt. I just you know I I answer. I respond right. I'm a good responder but maybe not a good You know maybe it's not good for Maybe not good for the heart. I guess about net. That'd be one of my resolution that I will try to become a veteran texter. There you go like. Do you have a favorite team? I mean aside for maybe ninety four of course with the New York Rangers were part of the Stanley Cup. Winning team you played in Toronto. You played your own town Chicago. The New York Rangers. They go down the list. Is there aside from the Rangers? Let's just put them aside because of the Stanley. They're a time in your career at team. Mississippi that you still embrace I mean I think when you put it all in and I know I know ray and I have had this schedule. this discussion drake's over the years. But you know when you're a player late if if if your family is happy and content if you're playing in your competitive And then you enjoy the people. You're working around in with the trainers first and foremost and it doesn't matter like for me. You know taking my hometown out of it. Just because you know it's home and my family's been here in the five years that I spent with the blackhawks but I mean those are the days that I spent in Winnipeg I mean I you know Drake's knots where we I you know our pass. I cross back in the day but you know I did. I think there was just something there because it was a it was a small town. Came in a in a big city league and You know everywhere you went. People wanted to you know talk and and let you know they support it In you know the Camaraderie. We had on the team. It was a close knit team. Both on and off the ice and I mean it's there I mean I was almost five and a half years so you know I had a pretty good taste of what playing in the peg is is it was about so You know any specific year. No I probably can't say that but I look at my totality in time in Winnipeg and go you know. Gosh I still have relationships there and and people that I've you know that have leaned on you know not only when I was battling my you know my my cancer battle but you know just you don't I mean life's life's rough I mean life's a battlefield and you stay in contact with the people you do and the relationships that you have but you know just that time in Winnipeg was You know I just I really you know I really really enjoyed it. Look I mean my time with Ray and with Arthur Louise and Blakey and in Odi Sean O'Donnell Make like that Cup of coffee that I had an LA. Like I look back at it I mean looking at I mean ray room with look at that year ninety six it. Was You know ninety six ninety seven season? I mean there were rumors about Reagan and traded in Artie and Kevin Stevens getting traded. My name is not popped up at all and next thing you know I'm getting I'm getting traded to the penguins and I was only there for that cup of coffee. I mean that team that we had I mean we had. We had a boatload of fun and and We pushed each other and there are a few arguments on the bench. You arguments on the boss. A few arguments and the car ride home We had players go missing time semi we. We pretty much had everything. Go on and I love that team. Even though I was only there short period of time and The Ninety six ninety seven season Eddie. You know one of the teams that Drake's glossed over a little bit was in New York when you guys won the Stanley Cup. And I've always been so impressed is really not the wrong word. But I admire the way that you're you've got a big personality and even in New York when when you weren't plan as much as you probably should have been how did you. Where did you get that that part of your personality that you're always upbeat? You always charge or were like you were so popular with the guys and anybody. When I went there a couple years later they talked about all the some of the Shenanigans with with Mike Keenan and how you were always the guy that helped charge the team forward a little bit like where did that come from. Yeah who I appreciate that Ray I I would. I would like to think that I learned that as a as a young kid growing up. with You know with my family my mom and dad and then warning that over my my my hockey longevity and then playing you know having played nine or ten years you know actually eight plus years in the NHL and then getting to New York. And then I say this in the book I you know my career pretty much came to a halt when I got traded to the rangers and it it was hard It tested my love and my My Passion for the game But I always felt that you know world player regardless how bigger role is is that you've got two things you do things you gotta do. You gotTA accept an execute and everybody wants to be on the power play. Everybody wants to be out there at the end of the game But we know that that's not possible and and I do in my role was and yeah it was hard. I mean it it it it was. It was awful times but I was never gonNa let anybody see that I was down. I never was going to let the guy sitting next to me or across from me. Let them you know. Take drag them down with me and You know I always wondered what it would have been like if I wouldn't mind. Sorry if I would've went into general managers Neil Smith. Office just said you know what I'm not playing this is about playing and I gotta get Outta here. I never thought about that. I mean it never crossed my mind. It was just like look. I believe. I'm going to get a chance to win. I going to do what I do I'm GONNA prove that I can play and help. And you know the opportunity didn't happen but you know I think just you know. I've I think learning it over the years ray really. I mean 'cause I knew we had a great team and you know I would never stover this day. I would not trade in that experience experience of of doing what we did in New York and ninety four. I'm bringing a cup to their to the city of New York and Ranger fans for the first time fifty four years so it was It was hard it was. It was probably harder being away from the rank than it was being at the rink. Because I was with the guys and the trainers and you know you could go out there and really blow some steam and know. Even if you weren't playing you know you could do things that just. Kinda let things out but you know when I was at home. You do a lot more thinking or if you're in your you know you're going through a game day and you're not playing you just thanking you wander and you start doubting yourself and you know all those things cross your mind so But I I think I just learned it as a young kid and I learned it when I played in the League for eight or nine years until I got to New York so.

"From Utah in partnership with tsn. Welcome to episode fifteen of the Ray and eggs hockey podcast. We've got Eddie Olczyk. And so is arguably one of the best guests that we're GonNa have ray on the podcast. This season Our inaugural season Clearly we tape this interview earlier in the day. We don't want to give too much away rate out of the gate but normally we kind of Balk. What twenty twenty. Five minute gas. Yeah I think we ended up talking heads off for the better part of forty forty five minutes just because he's a great guy but what a terrific message and story to tell What I thought. What's amazing is you'RE GONNA. You will find this interview. I'm almost certain absolutely hilarious And then incredibly poignant and For a good friend of both of ours man it was. It was really something to listen to to all our listeners. You'RE GONNA YOU'RE GONNA love Eddie Olczyk if you didn't know any before you're gonNA love Eddie now. Yeah great stuff coming up with Eddie Olczyk. We've got our throat punch candidates we've got ask Ray and dregs. We've got the usual staples here on the Ray androids hockey. Podcasts is is your microphone okay. I mean it feels like we've got technical difficulties here. Now you're in Winnipeg the time courting you didn't travel the microphone as destructed to travel with the. I forgot that it's on my desk now. You didn't have an adaptor to plug into your Mac pro but now you do have no no so. This is what this is where the real problem was. Unfortunately this was on the video that you guys were watching me. Look for after which I don't have which I don't need hokey because I thought the only way to plug in for the interview into my computer what's to have this adapter attached to my headphones. Okay yeah but I didn't need that. There's just a whole on the other side of the computer like your headphone Jack. But I'm an idiot and I didn't know it was there so it took me a while and I will say it only took me like three tries to find it and you maintain your level of temperament which was impressive You know there is a video element to this. And we're kind of dabbling with the video side of things here ray and dregs hockey podcast But our technical adviser Rob Grade. I I love how tries to coach you through things you know. He's a bit of a guru when it comes to this stuff you know what he needs to be needs to be able to invent some sort of pair of glasses which you're wearing right now as they look at you. That has all of this connected to your glasses so you remember the movie. The jerk years ago at the optic grab he became a millionaire with the and the and the dog's name wasn't tiny was something head to family show. We'll be careful with that but that's honestly because you travel as light as possible as we all do. I mean anybody who checks bag when they're going on a two three day trip you'll find yet. You're you're left for dead so you need the glasses with the microphone. Attached the adapter. That's also attach you just plug your glasses into your Mac pro and while I wouldn't forget anything like seriously. That microphone is sitting on my desk. It's not very helpful there. No An and cameras can pick up the game a little bit because she too is a great influence to the podcast. She gives us unbelievable feedback. Week by week. She's gotTa make sure that that microphone is tucked somewhere near belonging. So I say on. The list of her priorities might is about one hundred seventy third on her list. I understand that. Hey great feedback on Wayne. Gretzky interviewing episode fourteen. So what conversation backed by great guests. And we've got a surprise. You don't even know this So we've got a surprise guest for episode. Sixteen which I'm going to share with you later in the podcast before we get to the news of the day night the podcast which is the Zack Kassian suspension. I I'm going to..

"Uh-huh all right time for everyone's favorite part of the rain drake's hoc you. Podcast is throat punch. And Ray. I've I've got something special for you bulldogs all right now. The problem is I don't know how to shut it off. Hold on the part working on it right all. Come on. Shut it off series. Obviously that's the penalty box from the world junior hockey championship in the Czech Republic. And I've got a feeling that after hearing at one time. That was enough for us at fair. I can't stand that song. Now this is this is what people I don't think understand so we're doing two games a day. Most people were watching the Canadian Game. And maybe part of the other game though in the first game. Say there's ten penalties ten times. I hear that Song the Canadian game. There's seven penalties that seventeen times a day. Somebody thought that song was a great thing to play as a player. Any pressure filled time goes to the penalty box. It sounds like it reminded me of the old Benny Hill thing. Benny Hill theme get. I hated it. I couldn't even I. It would come on and you'd be like I can't even ignore it how much I dislike. Know what it was called. I think it was called Charlie Charlie something. I'd like to meet Charlie. Tell him to beat it. So Charlie gets a throat punch for sure what is going to take away from the throat punches as you were playing the song people can't see you were kind of dancing and shoulder shuffle gone. I'm not I can see. I can see why Holly thought you were a great idea back in the day. Oh what a smooth dancer. Hey you know how we met by the way It was actually I if you're old enough to appreciate this but in small town I'm GonNa say Canada but it was a Western candidates. Scotch when they used to bring in. When the ice was out in the summer they would bring in like a Roller Skating Company. Right and once a week. There'd be like a roller skating party in the Land Bird Arena Landaburu schedule. And that's where hall and I met for the first time I was like fourteen. Fifteen at the time admire skin-tight GW. Jeez on sweet ass. Like I mean really really nice and on top of that. I was wearing a Pittsburgh pirates. Remember the old Pittsburgh Pirates Hats. That were lawsuits. I mean like coke wouldn't want she's always human anyway. It wasn't my dancing. It was a masculinity on roller skates. Not Blades Skates these. Things had four wheels man. Did you have your own? No which is. It's a personal pet peeve of mine. That's the reason I don't go bowling and roller skating. Gross me out because I'm wearing somebody else's toe jam and I'm not digging it. Yeah I can bring your own socks to bowling. Oh yeah I wear socks but I guess they sprayed them. I don't know what they're sure. They did back in the eighties. Spreadable rights anyway. This is what happens when you bring pauly or tiny. I've always got a story right. And then they're usually ridiculous. That's good but my throat punch goes to the goal song because I couldn't stand it bugged me. I would give a secondary one to Corey. Perry for his play in the game. Yeah because it's funny. You can defend if you want but the stuff piles around the same guys all the time. It's coming from the side. There's only one place you're gonNA hit the player. And that's Ryan Ellis. Yeah there's only one place I didn't like that place. Oh did you think I mean five was the maximum without the in person hearing so I thought it would have been Alderman. Yes absolutely I just. I don't see how there was any other result that was going to happen from trying to make a hit right in that position. Well Yeah I'm not struggling with this but it's it's not as defined as I would like it to be normally the throat punch as you've described is it's individualized. It's either again. Your candidates Corey Perry for the five game suspension. Being perhaps a bit light for dirty play or the penalty box song. I get that I'm going with anyone who continues to oppose more three on three overtime and I get it be as I've talked to general managers about this coaches. There's at least a hint of concern that you're going to stress overplay your top dogs your top players because those are the players that are going to be out there in ending standard window of three on three but I've also talked to players and I've talked to goaltenders and there wouldn't be many who prefer the shootout over an extended three on three so my throat punch goes to anyone who says now we're good with what we have five minutes with three three overtime and leave the shoot up and in fairness that might go all the way up to the Commissioner's Office because Gary Bettman as always been a strong proponent and advocate of the shooter for me it's an individual's skills competition. I want and need more three on three. I don't I don't understand the on board with the debate over it. You know it's more ice time for your stars while if it is than us some other guys yeah right now because the the shootout. I liked it when it first came in I was on board with it. I'm like this well. Then all of a sudden there's too many games going to shootout and I'm like It's not that overtime. Toronto and Winnipeg last night was spectacular. Well they're not always spectacular right all the time they you know you don't get the best version you know you guys kind of. They're going to control the park. They're GONNA come back to center. Whatever it might be. I would much prefer that to me. That's closer to real hockey. Then you have to You know to the shadow and the reason that they will always look for an ending is because the ties were just they were unpalatable to the North American audience. Like in soccer. You have tie on the European tie it just finishes tie basketball they play. They don't go to a free throw shooting contest or three or three point shooting contest. They play overtime till it ends. I would prefer that too. I'm with you on this all right. We've got to ask Ray Andrey coming up. Do you WANNA play. You want me to play Charlie one more time Ray. Is we leave throat punch or should I just let that Rusk? I've I've almost had enough of Charlie You know what's really been interesting to drake's is how many people send it to me on twitter at me to the group that will be tweeting it at in the very near future perhaps as part of the limited promotional work that you do in supporting the rain breaks occupied cast on. These are all right. Let's go between the benches and we're gonNA start with a positive and then we'll shift over to somewhat of a negative story. Line your thoughts on the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Arizona coyotes if you look at the Columbus Blue Jackets radio months ago we're talking about Columbus. What is going on with the Blue Jackets? I mean at that point a month ago their way out of the playoffs and you know all of a sudden now. They're right the thick of things yet again yet. Well it's funny. I would say that you know we. Can you know we? It's pretty easy to to point out. What what amuses us at times from from John Tortorella when he snaps at the podium when he you know any is so fiery. The Guy can coach because their team was decimated in the offseason. They lost rate. Now are Tammy perine had sixty points New York. So they lose him they lose Brodsky. They've got to totally unproven. Goalies and Yoenis corpuscle. Who got hurt and Elvis? Moore's Lincoln's there forward group is just gutted with injury and yet now they've got fifty points on the season there. Ten One and four in their last fifteen games. They're they're at the second wildcard spot two points behind Philly two points behind Carolina I find it astounding and of course nobody really notices or none of us really pay much attention. But you're like damn they're doing unbelievable and I think it has to be knowledged Arizona's We talk it on earlier and talk to him. About what A. What a great job. He's done in the coyotes of done. This division is jammed up. You've got between first and fifth. You've got four point separating teams but Arizona's at the top of the heap. They got twenty five. Wins the both goalies on a lineup? Anti rant is hurt again and Darcy Camper got hurt now. It's down to goalie three Eden Hill and they went again talks. Done an amazing job out there but getting Taylor Hall adds another level to their team. Kessel start to warm up to the deal and they're not going to be an easy cure and some credit to John. The general manager. Who knows I mean? That's that's a coup that's a big deal and acquiring Taylor all may not be done between now and and the trade deadline. If you pay much attention to this I think you do you know it's always fun. When you see basketball players tee off show personality we see it in the NBA. Of course we see it and in the NFL to some degree on occasion. You see it from baseball players. Rarely do we see just pure personality from NHL Stars? There are a handful. There are a handful. I everytime Brad Marchand opens his mouth. I want to hear what he has to say. And and there are other players who are like that because they're not afraid of the media and they've figured out a while ago that you know what it's part of brand building is part of brand building now you can go to the extreme with. Pk Superman but then you can take it all the way back to Connor mcdavid. Who clearly doesn't doesn't love the camera. He knows that you know being captain of team matters and he has to speak with the media. I don't that he's. He's intimidated at all by media. I just don't get the sense of the enjoys doing it. Is that missed opportunity by? Nhl Players in failing to build their brand because they're not embracing the opportunity to give us more. Yeah it's it's a mess. It's a mess by the players in. It's a missed by the league. Now the league brings in the top players at the start of the year they have that media junket and they film a bunch of commercials and things that get shown throughout the year. Like I saw him You know the magician. That's doing all these tracks with the players. That's all done at the media tour. I really liked that stuff. Because you see the guys are laughing trying to figure it out now. Not Every interview has to be a grand slam but what happens too. Often I think is the players so either are uninterested or distrust what the interviews about. They don't give anything and it's not that you have to give up deep dark secret. Just pretend to be entered to to be interested watched Kesari cap and in the other day. Do over the boards interview before the game and I and I guess I am picking on him but I don't really mean to. It's just the latest one.

"Tony almost passed on us. I hope people remember but yeah that minor green in your resume. Actually my house through a super bowl party that we had and went light down and thankfully his wife a spur enough to realize that it was worse than just a headache and we went to the hospital and had hours of surgery and consequently you know he's fine but listen he was just all hurting soil You know ray never. He never cheated. The game at all. Practice played heart. They love the game and just I was so blessed to have him as a roommate. he was my last roommate after he couldn't go anymore for a while. I decided that was it. I was going to get my own. We're stuck at France today. Chat with them quite a bit and I always remember how good that line was in the Toronto series of Corey Mellon Mike Donald. Tony Granato they got the game winning goal or they put us up for two three in that game seven But nobody plays more hundred more desire and and pound for pound the toughest guy that ever played with. Just the pleasure play with excellent Gretz. We WanNA thank you for joining us and taking a good junkier day away to to be part of the ranger eggs hockey podcasts. Thanks for doing this great day. Thanks guys thanks wing. Man Ray number of stories there that I hadn't heard before coming from the great one wing. Gretzky we we. We spent the better part of probably twenty four twenty five. Maybe twenty six minutes talking to this guy. We could've talked for hours because when you when you hear wing tell the stories you can you can hear you can almost feel the passion that comes out of the history of his game. I'm I'm most amazed with with the detail that he watches a play with these breaking down mcdavid goal and and of course the way that he played but he talks through establishing a new frontier in the in the southern United States. But he's given credit to everybody else you know. It's always been a trademark of him. His humble he is. I'm just astounded for as much as Wayne does for our league. There would be no end to the asks for him. What an ambassador for the sport that he is and can be It's it's really remarkable. I I loved listen to them. Tell the stories that he did. Did you appreciate the Audio Cameo from tiny? The ran drugs hockey on ASCA. Pretty clear that tiny runs at home. So as we're recording the the interview I've got a dog walking service. Normally they just opened the door and tiny goes running but apparently it wasn't the usual dog Walker so there was a stranger at the door. Hence the outburst from tiny the RENDERINGS MASCOT. I ninety with not having any of that. No luck we We need to FAG. Nobody right I I'm pretty sure it was warm. Ish in Astravo was it or or did you require the novus jacket. No no I needed it It was warm ish and then all of a sudden the wind hit and it was cold. So if if I didn't have it I would have been caught in a bad way. Warm comfortable The jacket is fantastic. It looks good to start with. But it's great if it looks good and it doesn't keep you warm doesn't do it. It's supposed to do Minorities jacket was hit it out of the park again over and Estrada the and everything you've just said applies to notice and this podcast really is about novus because early in the podcast. We talked about you doing laundry and you talked about just talked about how windy it was in the Czech Republic. All novus jackets are wind. Proof right are you probably felt that you experienced that Czech Republic they're breathable and perhaps just as important as any of that their home so you can just fire that thing right back into the clothes washing machine. What do they call them? The washing machine. I had to close watch. What we I'm like. What are you four is? I don't know what I'm doing is just given full props to our pals at Novus for making you look good which is never easy making when me look good which is next to impossible so thanks to novice for Always being there for the rain dregs podcasts. "Was probably becoming predictable and then when the players start to smell it then you really have to make a move. You like they were traveling. When the heroics of this effort came into play in Toronto Connor mcdavid goal versus the Toronto. Maple leaves on Monday. I know you've seen it obviously multiple times. I mean when you see once you've got to watch it a dozen times just to to make sense of what connor mcdavid did Morgan Riley and the impact. He finishes in in scoring an unbelievable unbelievable goal. You know we use goal of the year as as Cliche but I mean this one has to be an early. Favourite candidate is hitting the hot for two thousand twenty. I assume something might be able to challenge it but the sheer brilliance of what he did at the speed he did against the defenseman. That is a hell of a player and Morgan Riley. Now you put it all together and I mean it was. It was a thing of beauty it really was and I did watch it. I was on the plane I saw you know on on twitter and then I watched it again and then I watched it at home and like one of the things I was most terrified of in the NHL was getting a pass. And then having a one on one against the defenseman. Because I knew I could never beat him. No matter who was back there was no chance that I was going to be able to get around this guy. And then you got the whole rink looking at you like this kind of embarrassing. Because I can't get by the guy that guys were good and I can't get by him. That's not my game and he took it and just undressed riley like it was spectacular. I mean the edge work this. Yeah the deception. It was all there is. It was a thing of beauty. His level of confidence mirrors his athleticism and creativity. I think that's why I expect the unexpected now and as as glorious as that goal was and it probably will be the the goal of the year. I'm waiting for the next one because I know there's going to be a next one from Connor mcdavid. I. I can't debate it. I just I'm trying to figure out how could look if a better his ability to go super fast in one direction and then changed. Directions without losing speed is astounding. I would say is I think about the changes in the game with the players. That ability across the board is has grown more and more to the player's ability to change direction on their edges without losing speed. We couldn't do that. We could change directions but it took a lot lot more time than this. I mean that that stuff is broken. Thinking of the guys I think a Jack Eichel how he changes directions right like these. You can go across that nate McKinnon like then of course Mick Davids the. It's the prime. He's he's number one at at all. Well Wayne Gretzky perfect seat in Toronto. Watching that game no question. He was out of his seat in celebration in the Mcdavid goal he`ll. He'll join us on the rain rigs hockey podcast. Coming up shortly. speaking of greatness. And you know it's it's a category that we have to put mcdavid in now. Obviously Wayne Gretzky for many top of the list. Alexander Ovechkin Ray. Six hundred eighty four goals scored two against the Ottawa. Senators in our wrote of the sense Earlier in the week. I mean it's conceivable now tied for eleventh. All Time in goals was six hundred. Eighty four with James Salani. It is conceivable is it. Not that he could. He could catch Gretzky's eight hundred ninety four. Now there's a two hundred ten goal gap as we're recording the podcast here. Who which isn't chump change by any means. But are you a believer that it could be done? He's thirty four or do you just get. It's it's an impossibility at this stage. I don't think it's an impossibility in the reason I don't is because obese game in my opinion will age pretty well because he'll still be able to get to the front of the net not as often but he's still going to wait two hundred and thirty pounds. He's still going to be a horse. He's going to get in there. You can stand there like a statue in the left circle and score ten to twelve goals. A year can score thirty year. Thirty five goals a year. We have another fifty goal year. Pass this one in. Because he's GonNa need a year or two. That are big ears. Yeah so what does he have now? Does he have twenty nine. Twenty eight something like that. Yeah we don't want to say twenty six. That sounds right. I think he was twenty four going into that Ottawa game. So is going to be near fifty again you know. Can he do it again? One more time that that's going to be critical to whether he can score of these two hundred ten goals you know. He's going to have to have one big year. He's going to have to average near thirty five goals a year. It's possible I hope he gets close and I think Wayne would hope gets close to because the excitement for the game would be astounding like the records that could be challenged. Just think the most all time goals that that would be amazing. Now Wayne is both most humble person. You can come across but I would never cheer for anybody to break my record away. Plus Stamkos has as four hundred nine plus. Now he's all right right and I saw. Her name was was was an achievement. No question yeah. I saw this thing like He was You know it was quite a milestone for him you know. He was really excited about passing it. I was hoping it was going to go into a six year slump. Be Honest with you. I'm sure you were by the way one thing about lovie because I think he's GonNa get close. I'd like you'll be in the ballpark anyway. Put it that way whether he gets there or not. I guess is is. It's you know we'll we'll we'll find out but it's astounding. He did this. You know the the number of goals he's got to tie Salani. That's three hundred less games. I know and also think about three hundred less games. Amazing what he's done well and that's six hundred and eighty four goals in eleven hundred twenty nine games and again just as a as a point of Reference Wayne Gretzky scored eight hundred ninety four goals in fourteen hundred and eighty seven. Nhl Game Salt provided over. You can stay healthy. Obviously you know we're saying he's got a chance Let's kick over the Montreal Canadians. Wrap up top five rape. They lost to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Seven-game winless earlier. This season are seven-game winless. Now as we're recording earlier this season they went through an eight game winless stretch. They've now lost to the Detroit Red Wings three times this year. They could miss the playoffs for the fourth time in five years can can you make sense of this because the market in Montreal is getting warm right now and starting to point fingers and call out names? Well I can make some sense of it on a couple of things that that really are tied together. Montreal doesn't have offense that's GONNA come from explosive players guys that can change the game. Standalone player you know. Their offense has to be across the board right. It has to be depth. It has to be one through four lines. They have to play really near the top of their capabilities to be a successful team while Joel. Armenia has had a fantastic area thirteen goals last year. Got Eleven now. And then he's out along with Brendan Gallagher you know. They're they're top score along with Paul Byron along with Jonathan Drouin. Who had been playing terrific hockey? So you ask any team or look at any team. They take four of their top nine. Four words out of the lineup. They got problems. If you don't have guys that can carry your team while then you got even bigger problems. That's kind of where Montreal is offensively more Berge and the GM said look. We want to stay in the race until the end of the month and we get healthy. I don't even know if they're in the race. Still no you know and so we can look at the immediate and then if you go back and take a look at their draft choices in the first round only from two thousand nine to two thousand fourteen with the trade of Michael McCarron Nashville. Six straight first round picks and they don't have anything for it not so good and those those guys are between twenty eight or twenty nine and twenty two at this point like. That's that's safe. Four of those six picks work you know and there's Nikita sure back and Louis Leblanc back in the day and Michael mccaren you know or those are three of them and they just Jared tenacity is another. They just haven't worked for them and they're paying the price for that So would you be among the chorus of preaching patients or do you think? Berge has to step up even as difficult as it is to make meaningful trades in season. It can be done. Otherwise have done it. He's done it. Would you be patient and allow the Montreal Canadians to meander forward? Missed the playoffs again. And do their work in the off season. Or would you be one would be preaching for Change at the state why? I don't think they can make anything happen right now. That will change the season. The only way I'd make a significant move now as if it if it has benefit going forward the problem Montreal has talked about the first round. Picks they've got some really good young talent and then they carry price Shea Weber in the middle part of that is really where the issue start to sit so. I don't know if you've ever tried to do two things at the same time. It never works no right. You're looking for your keys in your conversation. Now you forget what you're talking about is you're looking for your keys or you go to pick up your keys. And you forget the conversation when you straddle the fence you can catch yourself right in the middle do exactly. And that's where they are. They've got these. You know these stud older players in price who by the way has been not even average this year. His statistics are not even average and Shea Weber had a fantastic year. You've got them at one end of the roster then you've got a bunch of young guys that just doesn't work. They're trying to get younger and better. And then they've got these there twenty million dollars tied up in two players. I don't know how you make a meaningful trade now to fix that but getting into the draft. They've got to use some of their cap space. They could take players on that. Other teams are looking to create cap space with. Yeah you might be able to get high price player from somewhere else because they can afford it rather teams can't do that good stuff rape. We've got Wayne Gretzky. The great one coming up on the Rangers Hockey podcast. And of course a little bit later a weekly staple throat punch ask gray and grades.

"New Year everyone and welcome to our first episode. Two Thousand Twenty. It is episode fourteen of the Ray and rigs hockey podcast. Darren Gregor along with Rape Ferraro. Rare you well rested I I mean. I'm I'm watching on twitter this week. You're back from the Czech Republic. You're back in the NHL Grind. But YOU'RE GETTING UP TO FORTY FIVE. Am Pacific. I mean clearly clearly. You're traveling your body clock aren't meshing right now. No happy New Year Drake's to you and to all our listeners. Hope everybody's got the nice start out to the new year. I am not even close to being on time. So yesterday. Today is. I believe Thursday. So yeah it was. Wednesday is up to forty five. What do you do it to forty five in the morning? I'm better be sleeping on the day. I do a lot of things at two forty five. Imagine but you weren't you haven't gone to bed yet. No no so. I did a couple of loads of laundry my expenses and book my travel for into the end of March so I was very productive at six o'clock. My head hit my desk like a stone and slipped till eight when the kids got up. And we're ready for school so I'm limping along but no I'm I'm getting there. I'm getting well look. We had Cami on the podcast not that long ago and she described meticulous and sensitive. You are to the cleanliness of your environment and I've witnessed this firsthand traveling with you and obviously sees on a day to day basis in your home but let's back up here a little bit. I share in your appreciation and O'Kane of doing laundry because to me. Laundry is like a fake chore. It seems like you're accomplishing a lot. With very little effort you throw the clothes in there now. You don't even have to worry so much about whites and darks and all that just because all of that and then you let them dry but I I where grow weary of doing laundry is the folding part of things and and you know if one sock doesn't match on pissed off like who would do that. Put both socks in the hamper. And let's get let's get going with okay so I don't mind the folding I I like it to me. It's like it is fake work. It's not like it's hard No. I'm not washing the clothes like my grandmother used to do like. I just pitched him in a machine and I throw them into the other one. The the socks thing he drags you are. You're a few steps in front of me. Okay I've got a thirteen and a ten year old. The chances that those socks all get into the dirty clothes is about zero percent. My favorite is when they clump them up in a ball and throw them in so they all I either. So that's my that bugs me and could anybody throw a shirt in? That's not inside out now that that's not happening so anyways. I like the. I like knocking off all the laundry. I like it clean but I just I go into back. I turn the music on like we're the laundry is and music and folk laundry. Not that's there you go so so looking at value in episode fourteen. We're we're now presenting laundry tips on the podcast. Do not separate anything. It's a waste of time and goes in together. Do not dry your wife's jeans and then she's really sour at you. Because what are you doing all? That's bad news. I get strict instructions when it comes to my wife or my daughter's clothing. Don't dry this or better yet. If you're drying for an hour stopping at thirty and make sure that you hanging so that. I'm going to do that all right. I'm telling you when I push starting the next time I go back. There is what I hear the thing. Go off all right. Talk about kicking off two thousand twenty with a mega guest. Wayne Gretzky the great one is going to join. Us later in episode fourteen. I this guy need as me for a lottery isn't a hockey aside. But he pops up and curious places and he does a ton of travel and it's not all hockey related travel specific to the oilers obviously is son-in-law Dustin Johnson kind of a big deal on the PGA tour. So you'll participate in that. But he's kind enough. Ray Takes fifteen twenty minutes to join us later in the PODCAST NOT GONNA lie. Get Nine on. The podcast is twelve better efforts. I would say I would say I would say so. It is it is amazing to me. How certain athletes and certain sports transcend time because there? There's a period of time when an athlete retires. Now they're still really relevant because everybody remembers them but now you're you get a generation or two away from their playing days. Gretz retired in right around two thousand right. Nineteen Ninety nine nine now. So it's twenty years so anybody. That is twenty five years or twenty eight years old or younger. They have no real recollection other than highlights our old gout. That's on of the brilliance. That Gretz had we talked yet. They know him and then we could talk about this later. But I I. I know you on on twitter earlier. We're of course all in all of the congregated goal in Toronto on on Monday. And we'll talk about that later in the show as well coming up as part of our top five items as a matter of fact but then someone tweeted something about video of Mariel Bugle and it must've been obviously back in the nineties eighties whenever it was but he was getting hooked and hacked and everything from his defensive line pretty much through threes homes and he's still scores a goal of. What would amuse me about? That was all of the backlash that we see. And we hear about almost on a game by game basis for those who are connor mcdavid fans and I think we all are obviously about how he's you know obstructed on a shift by shift basis that it's not even close. Who's watched that video if you haven't seen it Ivory tweeted it. You could find it my twitter account. Just watch it and please note at no time. Did an officials hand to go in the air so I tweeted out. There were six hooks on this play and Andre Kole. Petar answered decide. You missed to hold as well. It was it was A. It's an amazing piece of video. Know what I do remember dregs about that about that time when Mario complained about all the hooking and holding he actually was criticized. Pretty roundly furthering complainer. Now you look at it and you go well. No wonder at the time. We didn't even notice. That was just the way the game was but he was like. This is ridiculous and he was more than right. And it's proven to be right because the game has changed so much that the video is fantastic by two referees. Imagine the number of goals. Mario would've scored Wayne. Gretzky finished his career with eight hundred. Ninety four I mean if the game were called the same way you would have scored six hundred goals. Gretzky widow scored over a thousand. I mean and Mary Likewise Mary would have been literally unstoppable on the six foot or yeah with that ability. Just think of him. Eric Lindros in today's game. How were you gonNA stop them? Cau- Mario's at a different level but Lindros injuries aside. Who is going to stop him? You wouldn't you just. You just couldn't know all right. We've got plenty coming up on the podcasts or throat punch candidates or warmed up teed up ready to fly. We'll take you into the segment ask Ray and dregs. And we'll also announce her first half winner of the rate and Greg's hockey fantasy pool. Now you're just back from the Czech Republic. Tell me if I'm wrong here. The gold medal game between Canada and Russia has to be has to be up there among a highlight game. That you've called to this point of your broadcast career. I would say in the top few that I've done to them. Gold Medal Games. One of them was the other day when Canada down three one in the third period came back to to win against Russia. The other would have been twenty fifteen Canada Russia gold medal game. Was this six five wild crazy thing in Toronto unbelievable and what I what really connected me to that game dregs was. I was between the benches for this last one. I was up top like you could see these kids just like emotional swings in the game. It was just amazing. This tournament gets better and better More and more people watched we had over four million people watch on tsn and rds. And that's a game from Europe. That was eleven o'clock in the morning back here in Canada On against some pretty heavy traffic on. Nfl playoff weekend and things. But the game just seems to draw more and more people in I can't remember a better final in Europe that that we've gotten to call. It was amazing. I want your thought on travel experience coming back because that that always amuses me and our podcast listeners. But I'm feeling a little testy but feisty today so maybe we'll we'll leave the European experience with this. I I give him noise when media or fans start the tournament. And you can you. It's like clockwork every year. Where they're like Oh. Dsm puts too much pressure on these young boys. You know this is all about TV. This is all about ratings. I mean these kids would give anything to make this team and to have the opportunity to win a gold medal for their country. Of course there's pressure but isn't there pressure on an eighteen. Nineteen twenty year old Blair in playing in in the Memorial Cup or in the playoffs or any big game in college junior etcetera. I mean do you get is annoyed by The the negativity that comes prior to this. Turn on the so-called pressure resided. Of course I do. I mean now that I. I've done the tournament nine times. I'm certainly more sensitive to it. More sensitive to the criticism that as you say is like clockwork when the tournament starts funny. Part is most of the people that are bitching about the tournament. They're watching it so if it so offensive to them. Don't watch now. The tournament is fantastic. It these kids play their hearts out. They get a chance to to wear their country's flag on their chest and for many of them a good many of them. These are the biggest most important games that they will ever in their lives. I remember a goalie. Dennis God la the first place for Slovakia at.
