"One of the little comments, merle hazard blue Bob Dylan William concert. That doesn't surprise me at all merle super talented. Merle Haggard. So Bob Dylan was a mouthful of marbles. He really was. Yeah. I mean, you can tell that on this one. I've enjoyed to show today and don't pay any attention to geo. Oh, rocky, I won't, man. I appreciate your call and sharing a little memory with me. That's a lot of fun. And look, again, I'll say it. I just think that there's an era of music that y'all are getting to appreciate that I'm very jealous. I didn't get to see. You know, it was just, it was different then. Thanks, rocky. I appreciate the call. You guys keep chiming in. Let's go to Kevin in indie next. Kevin, what was your first concert? Before we get to the college football fun, what was your first concert? First concert would have been reo speedwagon and cheap trick back in 85. Was it flawless? Oh, it's terrific. I mean, it's outstanding show. I've seen both of those bands many times after that, but that was the first show. I got to see her in Pensacola, Florida. So I'll tell you this quick story, Kevin, not that anybody asked. I'm just going to tell you a quick reo speedwagon story. So I grew up a big reo speedwagon fan and one of the first bands I was in. We were sound checking one day when they came in and they were playing this event and they asked us to come out the encore with them and sing a role with the changes, which was such a huge moment for me. So you flash forward a few years later and we were playing a show when I was with the vampire and it was the vampire and reo speedwagon. I don't know why some state fair Buddhist together, but they did. And I'm telling you, man, I stood side stage for every note of that concert and watched REO speedwagon. He still sang his tail off, like, just amazing songs, amazing, like I'm a pig Oreo speed backing fan. So good on you on that one. That's a heck of a memory right there. What's on your mind with college football? Well, so I think you hit the nail on the head earlier when you were talking about the truth kind of lies somewhere in the middle with this Sabin and Jimbo Fisher thing. I definitely agree that both of those guys said things that they shouldn't have said. I think that if Sabin was, you know, kind of referring to NIL as them using I'm using that as a recruiting tool to get players. You should probably just set it that way versus saying the whole buying all the players on the roster thing. I think that was the wrong thing to say. And I think definitely Jimbo obviously being defensive as he was. I think he got he said a lot of things that were I think uncalled for and I think he got a little bit more personal with it than Sabin did. Well, I think Kevin and thanks for the call, man. Part of what hits me about what you're talking about there is that these are two guys two men to adults that stand up and demand a lot from the people that play for them, right? And one of the things that hits me is representation that we always expect kids to understand. And it's funny because look at what we've experienced in college sports over the course of the last year. The handshake became a huge debate. Should we eliminate the handshake line in college basketball? But remember, it wasn't a debate because of the kids. It's a debate because of the adult. It was a debate because of the coaches that didn't know how to act like coaches in the moment that they needed to. And now what you have is Nick Saban, probably saying the wrong thing. Yeah, I'll agree with you. But also Nick Saban, if anybody in the entire room should know better, it's Nick Saban. If anybody in the entire room should understand the power that his voice has, it's Nick Saban. And conversely, when you talk about Jimbo, yeah, he probably got too personal with the reply. All right, well, if anybody in the room should know better. It's Jimbo. What's blows my mind as we talk about this is that realistically it's the adults in the room that are making things more difficult for the kids in the room. And I don't understand that. We're sitting here having a name image like this conversation about what kids can really handle from responsibility and we're acting like suddenly kids that are frankly old enough to serve in the military, kids that are old enough to go out and make a living in the real world kids that are old enough to already be millionaires that if they're entertainers, but we're talking about them because they play football. Like they're incompetent or incapable of handling any level of platform and any level of cash. So we're suddenly using these college kids as like part of the problem in this thing. We've got to save them. But realistically, the people that are creating these headlines that need to be saved. Are the adults? Like, what do you do in that situation? That's a much different world to be in. Chad in Texas. Thanks for calling Paul Feynman showing Jason Fitz Phil and then Chad. Appreciate you hanging out with me. What was your first concert, brother? Well, it was in the early 70s at the cotton bowl. I was The Beach Boys. No, that's another great one of the original lineup then, right? Yep, sure was. That had to be incredible. It was. Had a great dad. At the cotton bowl too, like that had to be a magnificent show, right? Yeah, a lot of fun, magnificent show, sure was. Oh, that's great. All right. So talk to me about the SEC. What's on your mind, my friend? Okay, I don't think this has been brought up. Of course, a lot of them are going to on your show and go remember this, but what broke up the Southwest conference? Do you remember? No. I always started out with what's going on right now. The coaches at each other. Then after the coach has got at each other, the high dollar alum got at each other. And then they got serious and started finding out and having facts of illegal all kinds of stuff going on. Many schools got put on probation, SMU got the death penalty, and that was it. And if people don't think that could happen to the SEC, a lot of these coaches work for these other coaches, they know where the skeletons are buried. Though it could happen extremely easy. That is a great point by you, Chad, and I appreciate you making it, in fact, my buddy Sam Khan junior and Dave Wilson wrote an article. I'm finding here from a couple of years ago that goes back to the Southwest conference and the end of it. Great point by you, and I'm going to read up on it because frankly, no, I don't know the full story on it. I will get to know the full story, but I'll relate what Chad is saying to some of the NFL conversation that we've been having even across sports right now when it comes to some of the owners. I mean, we all know that the Washington commander's owner Dan Snyder has found himself in trouble and one of the questions has been Willie opened his closet. The skeletons in his closet for the world to see. And part of the concern of that is when he opens the skeletons in his closet, what happens to everybody else? Be foolish to believe that he in his closet doesn't have plenty of skeletons that impact other owners. So where does the trickle down affect stop? I mean, if we think that all of these coaches are going to expose each other, then all they're going to.

"A player on 7 20 w G. N and we're talking to Kevin Cronin of R E O Speedwagon. Kev. Early on, the band didn't get much respect until you started touring with Aerosmith in the 19 seventies, There was a new level of respect, and it taught you how to give that respect to other bands. For years to come. Oh, absolutely, You know, we we were the the, uh, the that the Midwest that we were the perfect opening act for the Midwest. But we were really pretty popular, you know, and in the Heartland and so when, when National touring acts would come through the Midwest, they pick up area and we would be the special guests on the tour. And but we were pretty popular, and so some of these bands would see that we were going over really well, and they would basically sabotaged. They messed with the sound, you know, turn the lights off at us and stuff and and it was kind of a drag, honestly, but um, but then we then we toured with Aerosmith and I'll never forget the first. The first show, Perry walked in the dressing room introduced himself. They you know they they welcomed us into to have the after show meal with them and party with them and do the whole thing, And their thing was a member, Steven Tyler told me that their thing was they wanted us to be as good as possible for the sake of the audience, but it also fired them up. That you know that we would put the bar at a certain level and they were so good that they weren't threatened by anybody. But it would inspire them to even play better and remember thinking Well, yeah, that's the right. It makes sense. Absolutely. We always you know, we always take the Aerosmith throughout rather than you know, not to mention any names of the band who sabotaged us. But and I won't. But there were plenty of them. So all of a sudden you have six albums under your belt. You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish released in 1978, which you know received so much FM radio airplay. Two million copies, ultimately achieving double platinum status. Was that the album that you finally said why you guys are really on your way? Well, we stopped pretty. We felt pretty confident with the songs that we had written for that album. And and, uh, so many of the albums that we made before that we kind of felt like the record company would assign us a producer. But producer never really kind of got what we did. And so the records would come out not sounding like us and and we would. It was really frustrating for a number of years. And so that album we went in. And you know, Gary and I went into this meeting with the bigwigs at epic records, and we like We're like, you know, we demanded that either we're going to produce this record, or we're not going to go in the studio. You know, we're thought we were big shots, right? And then, to our surprise, they were like, okay. And we looked at each other and we were like Did that just happen? What do we do? We? You know, we're just a couple of rock musicians. Uh, sure Enough, we kind of figured it out. And, uh, so, yeah, you can tune a piano, which get tuna fish was the first record that we We all kind of went alright? Yeah, this kind of kind of sounds like us, you know, so it was And you know, we had rolled the changes to fly. We had some. We had some pretty strong material. So it kind of worked. Oh, I remember slow dancing in time for me to fly at my seventh grade dance in 1979. It was a big night for me, Kevin. Big Night. Really? All right. Well, good. Happy idea, You know, um are you know you broke into the mainstream again with with hi Infidelity sold more than nine million copies. Keep on loving you. Take it on the run. Don't let him go. There was a transformation of the band a bit too, a little bit more popular. Music rather than harder. Rock was this was the band just evolving at the time, or was this more of a conscious effort to head in that direction? No, We never had any conscious effort in the in the history of our band, and everything that we've done is pretty much been some sort of a happy accident, and, uh, And the high Fidelity record was no exception. I literally I'll never forget that I kind of woke up in the middle of the night and and wrote, Keep on loving you and Uh, you know, if you if you really pay attention to the to the lyrics, lyrics versus of that song. It's It's not a not a real happy song. No, and no people play it like at weddings and stuff, And I'm thinking to myself sometimes. Are you really listening? They were prompt themes. You listen to the lyrics to the B section that hurts first, but, uh, yeah. I mean, you know, but when I played that, for for the guys, it was like You know, I know that that's not an R E O Speedwagon selling and finally rich red plug in and you know a Les Paul. You're a Marshall Stack and turn got this nasty sound. And I think that his intention was basically to drown me out in the rehearsal hall. But I was like, dude, that's it exactly what this song needed and So you know, that's kind of where that the you know, we kind of stumbled into something. Which is what we are. That's all we ever do. We just kind of stumble our way through. And some, you know, people kind of go. Yeah, we dig that. Or,.

And Jonas Brothers thing Is this like a reunion or they still been touring. You know, I don't know if they ever necessarily broke up. I thought they had some disagreements like one didn't like the others Wife or something like that. They got in a fistfight at it. Somebody's celebrity party brothers. That's what happened. Brothers fight, don't you? Okay, So I'm out of all those names. Jonas Brothers, Dave Matthews. Look, Brian Chris Stapleton Chance to represent Brown, Miley Cyrus and others to be named later. Who? Who's Your must see if you have one on the list? Oh, wow. That's a tough question. Look approaching from this way, though, Like I want to see Lady Gaga once. I don't not a huge fan of lady gaga, but of the interesting sure. Yeah, right. So you don't have to love the artist. Just the curiosity factor, right? You know what, Um, I'll give you mine, okay? Miley Cyrus appears because she killed Bo who stick out Don't you put on a good show, So that would be an interesting one. I'm not a fan of hers, but I'd love to see the show. She had all the cards phenomenal. That's what I'd be curious about. What's your choice? Chance? The rapper. He's probably got some Great songs. Hmm. I've seen fish bone before. Otherwise I would have gone all Unique canyon looking at some of these other stages, and there's a lot of talent here. Not heavily into the rock. Into the rock genre, though so, Joan Jets coming again Classic. Yeah, I would probably see Ludacris. I've never seen Ludie and he's fun. Yeah. M r E O Speedwagon that's always fun. Talking about bringing it back eighties. Come on. I think I destroyed past them once when they were playing one of the side stages and then stopped for a song isn't the singer and I forget his name. I probably should know. Isn't he married to someone that's local here, and that's the dust a connection. I think that there's something going out figures from Wisconsin he wouldn't play summer fest, but his wife is from here's a lot a lot of times. That's the drug. It's like Jim Gaffigan. His wife's from here, so you always place here. That's different. Different. Comedian Deciding to do shows in his hometown or his wife's hometown is different than a band that tours every year and Finds places to go. If you want to see something different. Another one that you could, I would suggest is 3 11. 3 11. What will give me some of that? Yes. I don't know what they're what they're about. They've been around 11 time. I don't know if we have any e thought. Maybe. Well, here's another one. George Thorogood here. I mean, that's you want to see a guy cranking on a guitar? I mean, that's classic, So the good news is is that here's a pretty substantial line up for those three weekends in September for summer fest. That's great news. That means they're moving forward on this because one of the concerns right we were worried about whether or not they would be able to book bands. How many bands would be touring this list is incomplete, Yet they still have some stage. They need to film. Not bad and across the range there When you look at different types of music, they have all kinds here. This is a good start it I like it. I'm gonna talk about summer festive 9 35. "Show would be better if you could swear not something. Sometimes I listen to these shows that can swear it seems like they You go out of the way to swear that's not good. But then again, if you get a bunch of guys joking around with each other and nobody else is around, you know the swearing begins anyway, so I don't know where the fine line is. If you're going to put together a show like that, where It was just natural. That would be the beauty of being able to swear on the air right now that you would just do it all the time for shock effect, but that whenever In natural conversation. It came up it will be allowed to come up. I'll figure it out tomorrow. I'll decide whether or not gonna swear O on the important I think. Wait a minute. Here's the law. We can't okay. Oh, man, You know what they are crushing my creativity. All right, Paul Stanley presents Give me some more entertainment stories. All right. This is the Big one. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which is in Cleveland, Ohio, is re opening this weekend after being closed for two months as if I needed another reason to visit Cleveland in the winner. Well, they have good restaurants. I knew that. Do you think they have good restaurants? Good. Sports bar right across from the field where the team play. They don't know what they're called. Now that took away their name. They didn't It's Cleveland, but they're not allowed to call them that. You know the you know, they I word. I can't say that the guy all the other evening, the baseball team. There's not the Browns. I mean, the brown talking about the baseball team, not the book. Okay, I get that. But I didn't know that. Is there gonna be called the Cleveland baseball team? When we're gonna be called the Cleveland I words? Cleveland didn't know didn't wanna go. Oi, Words rolled right off the tongue works for me, You know, So you're in the know you're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I love rock and roll like you just got it right. She didn't write. It was a band called Arrow from England. But, uh, I love rock and roll, but I find the rock and Roll Hall of Fame to be completely Ridiculous. You don't like the way it is, You think exhibit. Well, look, I've never been there have only problem Was she rock and roll? I don't She's talented. She was talented is that she was just beautiful, talented lady and it's a shame that that's what happened towards that It happened. I get I get you on a rant about the rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and I think I've done it many times. And then the audience gets bored, and I always have to make the point that Rock and roll is not a place that should have a Hall of fame. Now there should be places where it's celebrated museums, if you will. Yeah, I'd love to see the Sergeant Pepper's outfits and, yeah, eventually be places where it's celebrated the place in Seattle that I've never been to, I think kind of does that It's just sort of celebrates. Rock and roll and you see all there's the guitar that Kurt Cobain had or something. I mean, that's fine or theory, journal lyrics written down by Bob Dylan of Blah, blah, blah. Whatever. Celebration of rock and roll. I think it's fine, but here's the years and I'm gonna go into my rant here. Here's the problem. The problem is the greatest rock and roll band of all time may not have been heard by almost anyone, meaning it could have been some band from Minneapolis. And the replacement. They were. Oh, no, I'm not talking even getting that big. I'm talking about. Ah, band That was some people saw them for two or three years, but at some 30.1 guy decided I'm going back to school. Another guy got married had to go get a job, Whatever. And they only lasted like two or three years and the people who saw them remember it will never forget it. But most people didn't see him and they don't get it. The reason I say that you can't have a rock and roll Hall of Fame is because I don't care how small of a town you are in If you have the potential to one day, be a great pitcher. At the pro level. The pro level will find you. The coach is at the small high school will talk to whatever you'll end up going to a larger college will be seen by scouts. You'll get into the system, but the rock and roll band that only exists for three or four years that goes away. It's not going to ever be seen by the level of the people who decide that this this was the greatest rock and roll band or one of the greatest rock and roll bands. My other rant, and I will do it again whenever the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame comes up. Is to say some people argue about certain things like you. Look it, uh Eli Manning is going to get into the Hall of Fame, right? He's going to get in the Hall of Fame because he won two Super Bowls. Right. His stats are not all that great, but he won two Super Bowls, and he's a driving reason why they won those Super Bowls, so he is going to get into the Hall of Fame. By that measure. No matter how snobby you are. Sticks and R E O Speedwagon should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They sold Brazilians albums they sold out..

Yeah. 415 says has probably gone to the R E O Speedwagon Ozark ever said looking forward to his takes on Cronin. I got crone and takes. I got all kinds. I mean, dude, First of all, how about the stage there set up like, essentially on the lake. Lot of camera time for the attractive I would like to go to that show. Yeah, I would love to go see them on a riverboat. On a lake like on a lake setting. You know, it's kind of funny, Murph, I regret that I never got up to go. And I really do. I'm not kidding. I regret that. I never got up TOC show cannot, but I imagine that's what can knock guys. My little good call. Yeah. Good call. Good Call is missing the charm of abatement. But right right other than that, no Marty Bird. But yeah, But did you ever see the wagon life? I never saw the wagon life. That's a mistake I made. That's on me. But more if I got to say the song they kept playing because Lenny was listening to it in her car, Wendy Bird time for me to fly, which isn't even gonna be I'm gonna confess was not in my role of Dex. Great track, And now now it is we talked about going, dude. Murph. You and I'll get a legendary night at the lodge in Chicago Coach. We did the 07 trip to Chicago and we landed Thursday night I went to get a deep dish pizza with Janet Magal be shouted out Paulie, back with the look of Polly Max. Terrible after me, building it up and building it up and building an opposite Polly. Here it is Rejected it. Holly got really quiet. I got and I had nothing to say. I got to say the best part of that meal was the fried ravioli appetizer. Those were good, but then I haven't righted the ship by taking him to the lodge. I said. Here's where every Ball writer goes when he's in town for the great drinking taverns in America, the lodge off a Russian division and I'll tell you what barrels of peanuts and a jukebox and slinging Cold beers. And and Polly Mac and I start hearing some R E O Speedwagon and started doing shots of Jameson and Polly's Like I Need More Speed wagon was like this is their turf. You know their world Speedwagon territory. Yeah, yeah, By the way, I got news for everybody. If you're going out in Chicago and you and you're trying to do shots of whiskey with Murph, I really don't recommend it all because you can't get what I couldn't keep up. And then Murph, you effectively turned me green. The next day, literally, and I got to say this is kind of what I sounded like was the Cheetah cough?.

"Yes, that is the most delightful thing I've heard, probably in six months. That's that's pretty fantastic. Promulgating messages of positivity. Uh, yeah, again. Like I said, I'm not. I've known people with good attitudes, and I generally think I would like to have more of what you've got. I guess it's whether it's real or phony. I know people that have the phony and I don't want to hear your phony. You can't back it up with any reason. Positive outlook about this current situation right right well, and I know just our experience in the radio industry through the years is our pop. Our brand of positive attitude is we're going to grind and work until it's successful. And your son, shiny cheerleader types think there's something wrong with us. We're are. I used to say our official mood is grim determination. But you know, a lot of people can't take that It strikes them is I don't know. Negativity is something that just strikes me is realism, but some situations they're also just sucky. Yeah. This is a sucky situation. Now we need to move beyond that. We need to. You know, we were gonna go a different direction. We need to put that behind us all that sort of stuff. But don't try to tell me this isn't sucky. Right. We can move to solutions if you want, but it still sucks. Well, sometimes there's no solution, right? You just got to figure out a way to put it behind you or deal with it. Right. Exactly. Exactly. Oh, you know, the happy talk reminds me and this is rather an odd transition. I get but Um there's some major Kim Jong UN news You remember when he was the biggest story on the planet? Now he might as well be. I don't know. TV's Bob Denver for something some obscure musician, the bass player from R E O Speedwagon mean, It's just nobody talks about him. Nobody cares that nobody thinks about it anymore, even though nothing is changed. But there is major Kim Jong Hoon news and a really strange development in the hermit kingdom. I think you might find interesting if you're into the foreign policy. Like what I want to hear that Hillary Clinton is just trolled Mitch McConnell don't buy tweeting a reference where she calls him the House Minority leader who burn She's so clever, so very clever and entertain. Oh, my God, that whole world know that whole world I want I I want better algorithms that can read what I want to know and filter out the other stuff, for instance. How many times Monday. Did I see that Harry Styles and Olivia Wilder dating? I don't look for that kind of information. I don't go to sources that really emphasize that kind of information, But I still came across it like eight times. I need an algorithm that weeds out information like that. Yeah. I don't need to see it. I don't even know these things. That would be nice. And all the news, you know, what do you call it All The news algorithms news curator is that allegedly are going to help me find what? I'm looking at Their terrible And you think you're doing a little twitter tutorial real quick. Yeah, So if you're showing through tweets, and there's a tweet that you don't want to see that sort of thing in your timeline again. In the top, right. There's a little drop down arrow. You can click not interested in this tweet That's telling the algorithm. I didn't know that you had no idea that so then you can kind of train your own timeline. They'll try. That's how you create bubbles so that I don't tend to use that stuff too often. But yeah, there is one of I don't mind a bubble. That eliminates celebrity dating gossip. I'm okay with being in that bubble, right? But I understand what you mean. So you don't want to know who Harry styles of state if you're if you're the sort of person that would do you know any positive news about Trump or any negative news about Trump, you would want to eliminate That's that's a terrible idea. That's gonna that's gonna greatly warp your perception of what's actually going on you. That's interesting. So Major North Korean news in Kim Jeong one minute and also is there hope for that last Republican Senate race based on military ballots, I'll give you the numbers that's next. You are.
