The Refiners Furnace
A highlight from DOCTRINE
"Hi everyone, this is the Refinery Faunus, a medium where the stairs of revival, intimacy and transformation will consistently stir the hearts of men back to God. And I am your host, Ben Niza Bass. I trust that our lives in all through the week we have been consistently trying to seek God for ourselves. I told us carefully, I think, in our previous episode that the truth about our work with God will only be determined by the instructions of God we are carefully keeping. And by instructions, I mean, how are you getting addicted to the word of God? Are you following the instructions given by God? Are you carefully following God's instructions for your life? Or you are doing something that we are not even aware of? You see, the truth is that a man who says he has a work with God will only be vetted through by the number of instructions he is keeping. So, are you obedient to God? If you are of a truth, you have a work with God. So if you are disobedient to the instructions of God and you feel you are speaking in tongues, you are fasting, you are studying the word of God and you are not obedient to God, child of God, believe me, I tell you the truth. We don't understand what you are doing because in this kingdom you only receive rounds, you instructions of God you are keeping. And by instructions, I'm not talking about hearing the audible voice of God, no. I mean, the daily instructions from the manual of existence, which is the Bible, do not steal, do not kill, do not have other God, are you fooling me now? So if you are in this category, congratulations, you have a work with God. Amen. So today we will be talking something very, we're going to be talking about something very deep and strategic and I believe that by the message of God that it is important that we are carefully, I mean, we are carefully talking about this now so that by the message of God, we have a lot of background to build from, for if the foundation be destroyed, what shall the righteous do? Child of God, I feel this is extremely necessary that we get back to God deeply, regardless of our trust, regardless of anything that we get back to God. I tell you the truth, the days are running closer and we need to redeem time. Amen. The days are coming shorter and then we need to redeem time. Child of God, there is no time again, there is just no time again, Amen. I pray that the Lord will help us, I pray that the Lord will pour His grace on us, that the Lord will ingrace us to be able to be equipped for that which He has ordained us to do. Amen. So today, by the message of God, I will be talking to us about doctrine and by the message of God, I want to go through it face by face. I don't know if I'm going to finish it, this episode, if I can't finish it by the message of God, we're going to be checking, I mean, we're going to be looking at some other episodes to be able to do justice to this very subject and before I begin, I want to really appreciate everyone that has been following the Refiners' Furnace. I really want to appreciate everyone who has been walking tirelessly to make sure that the Refiners' Furnace podcast, that the Refiners' Furnace is hitting its mark. By the message of God, we are grateful and we say that the Lord will bless you endlessly. Please, I want to announce to all those following this podcast that the Refiners' Furnace, we meet on a Telegram channel by 12 a .m. to raise our incense to the Lord in prayers and then we also have a Bible study session where we get ourselves acquainted with the Word of God and then thank God for the podcast. So, I think I'm going to drop the link to the Telegram channel here so that we can get ourselves engaged in what God is doing with us presently, okay? Thank you so much for all your effort. We are really grateful. Without you, we will not be here and we are praying that the Word of the Lord will become flesh, that the Word of God will become flesh in our heart, that the Word of God will crystallize, will galvanize the totality of our existence by the mercy of God. Thank you so much and I'm grateful. So, we'll be talking about doctrine. Oh, I know you've heard that word a lot, doctrine, open doctrine, doctrine and doctrine and doctrine. So, today, I'm going to make it a bit clear. I'm going to bring so much light to it by the mercy of God and please, as always, please, if you have a question, please do well to send your questions to our... There's a message link attached to every episode that comes from The Refined Aswanis. So, please, I beg you, drop a message, drop a contribution. We are careful. We will always go back to it, we will always respond, we will always answer you. Amen. Thank you so much and God bless you. So doctrine, what is doctrine? What is doctrine? So the word translated, doctrine means instruction, especially as it applies to lifestyle application. So in other words, doctrine is teaching impacted by an authoritative source. So doctrine is a teaching impacted by what? An authoritative source. So in the Bible, the word always refers to spiritually related fields of study. So the Bible says of itself that it is profitable for doctrine, that is talking about the Bible now. The Bible is what? Profitable for what? Doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. Amen. I repeat, the Bible, the word of God is profitable for what? Doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instructions in righteousness. So we are to be careful about what we believe and present as truth. So first Timothy chapter 4 verse 16 says, he said, watch your life and doctrine closely because we understand that doctrine frames the instructions that one runs with in life. Amen. So a wrong indoctrination can make a mad life of any man, I mean, any man. So you need to be sure of what frames your life, what doctrine runs your totality, what doctrines run your mind. Amen. So the Bible says persevere in them because if you do, you will serve both yourself and you'll hear us. Please pay attention, pay attention. So biblical doctrine helps us understand the will of God for our lives. Biblical doctrine teaches us the nature and the character of God. But before we get there, before we go to the depth of biblical doctrine, I want us to understand what doctrine itself is. Like I said earlier, it is what for instruction according to the Bible or the Bible, which is the doctrine for every believer, it serves what as instruction, reproof and instructions onto what? Righteousness. Please follow me carefully. So then, when we're talking about doctrine, we are not just talking about the Bible. We have the Quran, we have other religious books that frames up the doctrine for the people or the believers in that religion. I hope you understand that the word believer was not mainly for the Christian sect. So a man now bows down to his statue. He's a believer of that statue. Are you with me now? So there has been an indoctrination or a doctrine that is guarding that religion, that is guarding that worship. So this guy grows up and eventually comes into the knowledge of that religion or that object of worship. And then there has been a message, principles, instructions, informations, and I tell you the truth, this frames up the doctrine of this man over time. Amen. Follow me and you'll be blessed. So biblical doctrine helps us understand the will of God for our lives. Biblical doctrine teaches us the nature and the character of God, like I said before. So you can check in Psalms chapter 90 verse 2, Psalms chapter 97 verse 2, John chapter 4 verse 24. All right. So the path of salvation through faith, okay, it teaches us the character of God, the path of salvation through faith, the instruction for the church and God's standard of holiness for our lives. All right. So, um, when we're talking about the salvation through faith, you can check Ephesians chapter 2 verse 8. I'm sorry, I would have read this, but I don't have time to go through this, but to some that I'll have time by the midst of God, I will expound on them carefully. You can read Romans chapter 9 chapter 10 verse 9 to 10. You can also check 1 Corinthians chapter 14 verse 26. You can also check Titus chapter 2 verse 1 to 10. You can check 1 Peter chapter 1 verse 14 to 17. You can check 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 18 to 20. So when we accept the Bible as God's word, we have a solid foundation for our doctrine, for our instructions, for our principles. So there can be a lot of disagreements within the body of Christ over secondary points of doctrine, such as eschatology, church organization, or the gift of the Holy Spirit. But truly biblical doctrine is that which incorporates the whole counsel of God. Let's check, um, the whole counsel of God and draws conclusion based on what which seems most closely aligned with the character of our unchanging God. Let's check Acts chapter 20 verse 27, Acts chapter 20 verse 27 said, for I did not shrink from the claim to you, the whole counsel of God. So this is the essence of what biblical doctrine to do what to expound to the believer, the whole counsel of God. Okay. We're not partial here. We are, we are, we want the totality. When we talk about doctrine, it is the totality of, of, um, of a thing, the, the, the whole story behind the thing that is doctrine, the whole instruction in regards to a particular thing. Okay. So we are concerned about the whole counsel of God. And you understand biblically, you understand how the Bible came about, but, but the Bible were, were, were inspired by what men of God, this way, the counsel of God to men of God. Okay. It came from God to men of God, and we have access to it by his mercy.

A highlight from Evangelism: Muslims and Mormons
"Of things, looking at how when we speak and reach out to those who are around us, specifically we'll be talking about Muslims, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and then atheists as well. What are some things that as we seek to point them to Christ, what are ways in which we can engage them well? And so we are going to do those things together here. And with anything that you talk about, especially other world religions, I know pastor has been going through different denominations in the morning and kind of looking at some different aspects of denominations. I thought this would kind of be somewhat in line with that, looking at other religions and ones that are a little bit more common to you and I, maybe some less than others, but how is it that we can engage with them well? And of course, many things can be said about Jehovah's Witnesses, what they believe, Muslims, what they believe. And so the point of this isn't to give an exhaustive discussion about everything in which a Muslim or a Mormon might believe, but just to give us some handles that we can hold on to in our brains as we discuss the gospel with them. I know for myself, sometimes if I see someone on the side of the road and let's say I know they're a Jehovah's Witness, you know, there was times in my life where I would say like, ah, well, I don't really want to engage with them because I don't really know what they believe and I don't know how to answer all their questions, so I'm just going to, you know, I'm not going to talk to them. Whereas with Mormons, I had a lot more understanding of Mormonism and I had talked to a lot more Mormons. When a Mormon would come to the door, I'd be like, ah, come on in guys, like you want to come in? I'll get you some water? I'm like, let's chat. Because I had a better understanding of the Mormon faith and I felt like I was ready to engage them. I felt like I was ready to have an answer for questions and try to point them to the gospel. And so the point of all of this is to equip us as a church, to equip us as saints, as we go out into the world, at your jobs, in your neighborhood, with your family members. We might not all have a Mormon cousin, but you probably have an atheistic coworker. And so being able to engage them with the gospel and feeling that you are equipped, and I know many of us are, many of us are, so I hope this will just be a supplemental help to you in that endeavor. And so we're going to begin working through these notes. And if you look at your notes, the first one is Islam. And I recognize that Islam is not huge in the Midwest, in Omaha, Nebraska in particular. For sure there are Muslims. I've talked to a few since we've been here, walking around different parts of Omaha, but you almost have to go and find them. But I'm sure that even, I know, I'm speaking to Dan Williams and others that there are coworkers even here in Omaha that are, hold to the Islamic faith. And so I want to walk through each one of these religions together, give us a little brief understanding of their history. And because Islam is so big, where we are in Mombasa, a large portion of Mombasa is Islamic. A lot of times you'll have Somalis in particular that we're working with. The father will be here working in America and he will, they'll live here as a family for many years, but eventually as the kids get older, they send their kids back to a place like Mombasa because it's not, you know, a war -torn place like Somalia, but there's a large Islamic influence there and they want their children to be brought under that Islamic influence. And so we'll have a lot of Somali Muslims that are there, the kids in the model are there, and they're being taught and trained in that Islamic culture, and while the dad is here in America working and supporting them. And so there's Muslims here and I hope I'm writing that. I hope, I know a lot of times we can be afraid of Muslims, but there's, for the most part, there's no reason for that theory. So what I want to do is spend a little bit more time on Islam because again, it's something that we have been very, very engaged in, spending many hours talking with Muslims, and so it will be a little bit more in -depth, but I will try to walk through this one quickly. So today for the Sunday School, September 24th, Understanding the Other Side, we're going to be looking at Islam and Mormonism. Just out of curiosity, just out of curiosity, how many of you have either, you know, neighbor, relative, co -worker, whatever, who is Muslim, Mormon, Jehovah Witness, or atheist? Just raise your hand. Just probably raise your hand. So at least somebody, right? There's somebody. Now if he just said Muslim, there might be like two hands that go up, but that's all right. We'll get to the others, okay? So very briefly, I'm going to try and be brief, okay? I was trying to be brief with these notes and they ended up being 11 pages, so not off to a good start, but that is all right. So as you've seen in your notes, Islam, A, the history of Muhammad, early life. So of course, whenever you speak of Islam, you're speaking of Muhammad, and so if you talk to any Muslim, they will talk to you about the prophet Muhammad, and then they'll go on to say, just be upon him and ramble on these Arabic blessings about his name, but Muhammad was born in AD 570 and he died in AD 632. And in his life, living in Saudi Arabia, born in the city of Mecca, he had a rough childhood. His parents both passed away as a young boy. As a six -year -old boy, he went off to live with his uncle, or his grandfather, and then as an eight -year -old, as his grandfather died, he went off to live with an uncle, and so he was kind of moved around from family to family. He joined in the family business of being a camel caravan driver, so he would go on all of these long trips across Saudi Arabia, Syria, with his uncle and others that they were working for, traveling all over the place, delivering goods. At that time, in Saudi Arabia, of course, at this time, it was not an Islamic country as we think of it today, but there was all sorts of Gnostic Christianity, which is no Christianity at all. It taught a dualistic type religion and many, many problems with some Judaism, other pagan religions, polytheism. There's just a hodgepodge of religion going on in Arabia at that time. And so Muhammad would have come across all of these things as he's traveling around, listening to stories, discussing with other people. The Quran itself tells us very little about Muhammad himself. We don't really understand much about Muhammad at all if you've got random passages that don't really connect with anything, and you have to have some sort of grid to really be able to understand that. And you find that grid within the other important literature in Islam, which are the Hadiths, the Sirat, and these other religious important books that give the traditions and the understanding of who Muhammad was and what he did and all of that. And so in the Islamic literature, we discover these things about Muhammad, where he was and what it was like for him growing up and these other things. And so you might think, okay, you know, the pastor's going through Quranicals, and so we don't really want to go through any more genealogies with Muhammad and figure out who his grandpa and all of those people were. And that's not the point of discussing him being moved around and all of these things. But it is important to note that Muhammad was exposed at a young age as he's traveling all over to various religions. He's hearing different stories as he's traveling around. He's hearing stories from Gnostic Christians, again, who are not Christians at all. And if you read and study the Quran, you find that Muhammad oftentimes quotes things in the Quran that he either thinks are biblical excerpts, or he thinks that they come from the Jewish scriptures in the Old Testament. But as a matter like the Arabic Infancy Gospel of Matthew and these other Gnostic gospels that no Christian would have accepted, what Muhammad quotes is that he believes that they are, in fact, the Christian scriptures. And so this happens time and time again. Muhammad thinks he's quoting from the Bible, but he's really quoting from the Jewish Talmud. And this happens oftentimes. And so the understanding that Muhammad had of Christianity is by no means what you and I, and so even if you read the Quran, you see that Muhammad believes that the Trinity, the Trinity that the Christians believe in is God the Father, Mary, and Jesus. Of course, no Christian believes that the triune God is made up of Mary, and not even, if you want to try to point the finger at Catholics or Orthodox, not even Catholics or Orthodox go so far as to worship Mary. And so there's just a, in many ways, a bad understanding, for lack of a better word, a bad understanding of Christianity within the mind of Muhammad. But at the age of 25, Muhammad is employed by a woman named Khadija. He starts running his own caravan. He eventually marries this woman, and then he begins, as we get on to point number two there, Quranic Revelation, Muhammad begins to really seek after God. He wants to worship God. He wants to know God. And Muhammad goes away. He begins to go into a mountain near Mecca. He goes up into the mountain. He goes into the cave, and there he's fasting. He's praying. He's seeking to know Allah, which is just the Arabic word for God. And he wants to know God. He's trying to have a closer relationship with him. And again, for the sake of time, we're not going to go into any lengthy accounts of Muhammad and the experience he had in the cave. But what happened as Muhammad is there praying and fasting is Muhammad says that there is an angel named Jibril, which is Gabriel. And Jibril comes to him and says, Muhammad, read. And Muhammad says, I can't read. And the angel says, well, first the angel squeezes him very hard. Muhammad says it hurts him. It squeezes him very hard. And it says again, read. And Muhammad says, I can't read. And so this goes on. It's kind of like, I don't know, a Three Stooges play. But Muhammad just keeps telling the angel, I don't know how to read. And the angel beats him up a little bit and tells him to read again. And it just goes on and on and on until eventually Muhammad, you know, starts to recite parts of the Qur 'an that the angel Jibril is giving to him. And so this happens, and Muhammad comes home. As I'm quoting, I'm not quoting, but the place in which I'm getting this story from is from the Hadith, it's from the Surah, it's from the Islamic tradition itself. It's not some, you know, angry Christian writing from their seminary office saying like, ah, Muhammad was, you know, this crazy guy who's getting beat up by an angel as he's reciting the Qur 'an. And this is all from the Qur 'anic sources, Sahih al -Muslim, Sahih al -Bukhari, and so on. And so Muhammad then, he runs home to his wife, he hides under their covers, and he is petrified from what has happened. And he tells his wife, he's like, I don't know if I was meeting her with a demon or what happened, but it scared me and it hurt me and I don't know what happened. But his wife assures him, no, no, no, it was God, God is speaking to you, you should go back. And so Muhammad goes back, he continues to go back to this mountain, to this cave, and there he continues to receive revelations from this angel. And Muhammad goes on to say, this is a quote from, again, one of the Qur 'anic, one of the Islamic resources here, Sirah Rasula, says, Muhammad is quoted as saying, I will go to the top of the mountain and throw myself down that I may kill myself and gain rest. So I went forth to do so. And then when I was midway on the mountain, I heard a voice from heaven saying, oh, Muhammad, thou art the apostle of God and I am Gabriel. And so the Gabriel goes on to tell Muhammad, do not kill yourself, you're the apostle of God, you can't do this. But there's multiple times in the life of Muhammad while he is receiving Qur 'anic revelations where he seeks to kill himself, he tries to throw himself off of the mountain. And furthermore, there's other accounts of people saying that at that time, Muhammad was possessed by a demon. So these are just some facts to keep in the back of our mind. As we think about this, even within the Qur 'an, Surah, I had printed off, originally it was going to be in your notes, kind of a glossary of terms, because I know using a lot of these Surah and Ayah and all these type of things, you might not all know what that is, but Surah is just chapter and the Ayah is the verse. And so in the Qur 'an, Surah Adam 1, 22 to 25, 69, 41 to 42, Muhammad is trying to refute the idea that he is demon -possessed. And so he's arguing against the Jews and the Christians and are saying like, nah, we don't think you're demon -possessed, man. And he's like, no, I'm not. And he's trying to argue against that idea. And so this is just kind of a bit of a background as to how the Qur 'an was revealed to Muhammad. And so we might ask the question, well, do you think that Muhammad was just making all these things up? Is he just a total, is this all just a fabrication of his mind? I personally believe that Muhammad was not just making these things up. If you look at the scriptures and you see in the Old or the New Testament, you see various times when angels Abraham, appear to Mary, the Lord Jesus, Isaiah, there's many encounters where angels come and speak. Even the angel of the Lord comes and speaks to people. And many times people recognize that, oh man, like I am speaking to an angel and they are startled and there is awe and wonder that is within them as they speak to an angel. Not always, but we never see an angel of God coming and beating somebody up and hurting them and then causing them to become depressed and wanting to kill themselves and so on. And so what I believe is that as you look at the life and the story of Muhammad receiving the Qur 'anic revelations, his desire lines up much more with, as we read in the gospel, these, and again, not saying this to be crude or rude towards the Islamic faiths, but faith. But you see a herd of pigs when they are enveloped by demons, high -tempered toward the cliff and jumping off. We see Judas Iscariot, when he is the son of Perdition, when he is, it says, the Bible says that the devil goes into him and he betrays Christ and turns Christ over. Shortly thereafter, himself, Judas, killing, many believing, killing himself. And so it just doesn't seem that Muhammad truly had, of course we don't believe that Muhammad is a prophet of God, but it would be much more in line that, yes, Muhammad did have a revelation, but it was not from God, but rather, as we read in 2 Corinthians 11, 13 and 14, for such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

So as metro made changes to that system to make it safer, NBC four transportation reporter Adam tuss was with us earlier. What has changed with metro is some of the track circuits that they use to basically tell the train operators and the train control system, whether or not a specific portion of the track is occupied. That is important because in that 2009 incident, what happened was the striking train was told that the tracks ahead were clear when in reality there was a stop train ahead. So what metro has done here is they've changed a lot of the circuitry on the tracks that now better tells the operators and everybody involved when a particular section of track is occupied. It's been tested and retested and then that equipment then communicates with the train itself. Metro says it's going to switch the system back on, sometime in the summer. Are you doing the basics? Number one. If you're not doing the basics outside of the year, start with that. It's very, very simple. If you don't read or run throughout the year, just more advice. 5 minutes a day, you'll realize, for the first week that that is so easy and not challenging at all, you're going to eventually up at the second week. Right? And then the third week. And even if you get, look, we were talking about finishing the Corona stuff. That's really cool. If you can't finish the Quran, at least spend 5 minutes a day with the Quran. There's no other way as a believer. Does no other way to claim that we love a love and not read his speech that he gave divine speech that he gave to us in this world. If Musa said I'm staff was still here, that was miraculous. People knowing our condition with some of them would probably be worshiping it. Yeah, great. The Quran is a much greater miracle than the staff of Musa, so now even though it's a great miracle. But the best miracle in the final America Allah has preserved it for us to stay in touch with him directly. Any verse that you read if you read it the way it's supposed to be read, you have to understand that a lot is speaking to you. Just yesterday, just two days ago, my son, my 6 almost 6 year old. He was reading sort of batra and he's reading the verse 5 guru as Kurt. And I started him. I said, look, I said, look, a lot of speaking to you. You know what are you saying to you? He said, what? I said, he says, faith coronie at corco. There's only first I didn't break down the entire Jews for him that he's reading. And I said, you know what that means? He said, no. I said, faith guru Allah is speaking to the person who's reading the saying that if you remember me, you wrote the beautiful thing about this is the person is reading this verse is actually remembering a lot. That's how beautiful this is. So while you're reading those words, you're remembering him within that remembrance he's telling you if you remember me, I will remember you. Now what is that like a lesbian? What does that mean? What and thank me well at the cool. I'll give this the keys to gender right here. The first is if you remember a lot, a lot will remember you. Right? There's no greater honor than mentioning you.

"You're not really taking the time to very true. Go through it. So if you really want to do it, I tell you, if you read, I put it this way. If you read for 5 minutes a day outside of Ramadan, I guarantee you'll finish the juice in 20 minutes. Easily. No, not yet. Even if it's a half an hour, look, let's say it takes you an hour. Let's say it takes you an hour to finish it, all right? In the Saudi must have, there's 20 pages, right? So let's say reading 20 pages takes you one hour. Right? Just divide it up in four different times. Look, I know it's not easy. Look nothing is easy, right? That's the first thing. When Ramadan is approaching like we have the month of shahba and which is a beautiful month or so he said I'm used to fast and sharp and the narrations are what that his fasting and shaban outside of Ramadan was the month that he's the fastest the most, right? And he's doing that obviously because he's also selling them. But also to let us know that this is where the preparation, if you haven't started yet, you have to start in Chopin. What more beautiful time is there? But the other thing is that if you're not used to reading, start from now. Like you said, 5 minutes a day, ten minutes a day. What ends up happening is that if you break it up four times, say 15 minutes, 15 minutes, do 15 minutes goes by so I'm telling you to adjust today this morning. I was getting my son ready for school. I'm just checking my emails 15 minutes literally went by in two minutes. Now look, the other thing that mort is talking about getting 5 minutes a day, that's very, very important because when you start reading or on in Ramadan, which is the month of the Quran, let's not forget so you have to sacrifice a little bit for a quarter round. You have to feel discomfort. But you want to get over the phase of difficulty of reading because you don't want to spend rumbled on in difficulty reading the Quran. Yeah. Because what ends up happening is if you're not used to reading memorizing, just studying the quantum over the case is the difficulty phase you don't want to face it in Ramadan. That's not what we're talking about. It's discouraging. It's done, you just discourage you, but hold on is not for facing the difficulty of the Quran. Look, sometimes you know last week we talked about sometimes you gotta say it like it is. To each other in these very uncomfortable brothers and sisters, if it's taking you an hour to read the Quran, you've not given the book of a lizard. Wow, wow. You're not given his rights in you as a Muslim, sorry, because you were. Because this is something I give advice to myself. I'll give it to my own family. If you think it's okay you're going on 40 minutes to read a judge, I'm telling you right now, I know the point of the Corona is not just to read it.

What Do Judaism and Christianity Have in Common?
"So I have a thought for you and if you're Christian or Jewish or neither you will find all of this interesting and provocative. Judaism and Christianity are the only two religions that share a holy scripture. That's very interesting. And again, it's not something people think about. They know it, but they don't think about it, and they don't realize it's unique. So take, for example, the other monotheistic religion Islam. Islam does not share a holy scripture with Judaism or Christianity. In fact, it is basic to Islamic belief that the Jews distorted the Old Testament, especially the Torah, the key, the key 5 books of Moses, and the Christians made up of their own New Testament. And the only authentic word of God is the Quran. It's not a criticism in the least. It's just a statement of fact. So that's why one does not speak of judeo Muslim or Muslim or christiano Muslim values. That's not to say that a Muslim and a Christian and a Jew can not share some values. Of course they can. But a Muslim and an excuse me, a Jew and a Christian could share values with a Hindu and with the Buddhist and with an atheist. They don't share theologies or beliefs, but they can share values. That's given if you believe in free speech, you share a value, right? Right.

The Eric Metaxas Show
Eric and Kevin 'Votestradamus' McCullough Discuss the Impact of CSI
"Votes you're down. You and I are gigantic fans of Christian solidarity, international CSI. We're doing a campaign on this program right now today this month to free slaves in the southern Sudan Christians who are enslaved by radical Muslims who believe in slavery. They don't have biblical values. They believe in what the Quran says on slavery. And we have an opportunity. I almost can't believe how beautiful it is that we get with our money to actually literally free slaves. What's your experience with CSI? Oh, too big to fill an hour for. But I will just say this, Eric, that every good impulse that you feel from what we're doing is magnified 10,000 times in the heart of that slave that is freed. And it's kind of an interesting the Chinese talk about the yin and Yang and the push and pool of life and kind of the counterbalance of what everything is. And I'm not talking about that from a spiritual standpoint. I'm just saying there seems to be an opposite pool in different directions at times. If you thought about what could possibly be the worst life experience and moment for a human to go through, being a captive of war being drudged off to another country on foot, being repetitively raped and sexually assaulted being told you have to mutilate your own genitals or you can not be a good woman in the culture that you're going to. You're forced to give up your Christian identity and take on an Islamic identity. You are called names that are so heinous that we can't repeat them on this airway because it would be a violation of FCC standards. And yet that's what you are called for thousands of times a day, hundreds of times a month, many, many years in a row. And it just goes on and on.

Harriet Hageman: I'm Running for Wyoming, Taking on Liz Cheney
"Awesome Harriet hagerman you decided to take on Liz Cheney which I have an enormous amount of respect for you for She has done something in my mind that is unforgivable I am a Christian I believe in the power of forgiveness but you know you're gonna have to take that up with Jesus Christ and the afterlife politics right now forgiveness hasn't been doing as much good because they continue to attack us She is weaponized this January 6th committee and used it as a platform for herself to attack Republican she dislikes and try to interfere in I believe another election by dissuading activists from getting involved who may choose to support president Trump Was that one of the reasons you decided to take Quran along with many Let me hear from your perspective why you decided to take on this dynastic family in American politics Well there are many reasons why I make the decision to run for office But one of the first things I would say is that I'm not just running against Liz Cheney I am running four Wyoming and that's why I made the decision to do this We are not being represented Wyoming only has one congressional representative where the least populated state in the nation we have 580,000 people and right now we have someone who has completely taken her eye off the ball in terms of what are the important issues for us So we are the largest coal producer in the nation We're one of the top oil and gas producers in the nation We're a top cattle producer in the nation And all of the things that are affecting us from federal lands to the water issues to all of those are addressed oftentimes addressed in the natural resource committee and this is just one example of where she's failed She's no longer on the natural resource committee For the first time in Wyoming history we don't have someone on the natural resource committee or our congressional representative which is devastating to the state of Wyoming Because we don't have a voice on the very issues that affect the vast majority of us in this state

"David yaffe belloni About a group called parents for peace and its approach to those seduced by extreme ideologies So Jack's mom said the comparison is to addiction So extremism is the drug of choice And in Jack's case he went from one extreme ideology to another Yes so this is something that the group parents or piece actually sees quite a lot that people will switch from one ideology to the other And certainly when I was beginning my reporting I didn't understand that at all it seemed it didn't seem to make sense And you have somebody could go from being and Islamic radical one day to being a white supremacist the next day it didn't fit with my understanding of how this works but actually when you think about it more deeply if those make sense you know people are drawn to extremism often not because of the substance of the ideology but because being a part of a group fills some sort of spiritual void and the substance of the ideologies almost secondary to the experience of subscribing to the ideology at all And so it makes sense that somebody might switch from one form to another something that the group sees a lot So in Jack's case with the help of the lessons of non learning from parents or peace and some of his own independent research videos he was watching online He gradually starts drifting away from Islamic extremism eventually kind of renounces the Quran become a sort of virginity after you Muslim which is its own sort of problem But then also at the same time begins embracing or at least flirting with right wing extremism Is ancestors who fought for the confederacy in the Civil War and starts wearing a confederate flag baseball cap everywhere He decorates his room with confederate flag And his mom doesn't think that he's becoming a white supremacist exactly you know he's not expressing animus toward other races or anything like that But he is sort of beginning to adopt some of the trappings of white supremacy And at times will like express views that seem the same potentially problematic at one point Uses the phrase white power in an argument with the sibling Another time his mom is urging him to stop wearing this confederate tap out in public and he says no no this is my history This is my heritage So you can see how that could easily especially for someone with these history turn into a real real problem Do they call it deprogramming or is that sound too cultish Prefers the term de radicalization The programming it's never a term that's really been precisely defined It's definitely associated with those kind of extreme methods in 1970s when culty programmers would literally kidnap people Who were in cult or who were subscribed to strange exotic religious principles that their parents didn't understand They would kidnap those people and deprive them of food until you know they were prepared to leave behind whatever the colt was And so a lot of groups that are doing this type of work now want to stay away from that type of terminology People use the word you add a instead Is there a lot of money in this So groups like parents or piece and another similar group called life after hate are nonprofits that don't charge money You know they can income through their donations and government grants and those sorts of means But there's also a cadre of for profit deprogrammers do you radicalize or is out there And these tend to be the sort of the sort of final legacy of that 1970s era these are people who are in culture who then leave careers out of deprogramming And they don't use the same extreme techniques of that period But they charge family tens of thousands of dollars to conduct interventions to kind of infinite themselves into the life of a colt member and then eventually reveal themselves as the programmer and I'm here that are going to take you away from this and I'm the persuade you why you should leave And this is fraught with risk obviously you know There's no guarantee of success You could spend $20,000 on one of these projects and then end up no better than when you started Or you know like the program or story that I've been program was kind of botching interventions and so families lose a lot of money and then also you know their family member who they were trying to help is actually even more alienated ultimately And so there are all sorts of problems associated associated with this So you know what these guys say is hey we have to make a living And this work is time consuming in the UT paid for So Stephen haasen is one of the most well known kind of for profit deprogram or you radicalize or is he was a member of the unification church back decades ago you considered a Mooney He ended up leaving leaving that group and starting a career as a deprogram or and so he tried to $5000 a day to work with families who are trying to extract somebody from an extremist group or from a cult He's recently kind of pivoted more from helping cult members to helping people who are kind of shut down the QAnon rabbit hole He published a book recently called the cult of Trump He's the sort of guy who's on TV all the time talking about how Trump supporters or brainwashed and that sort of thing He's basically trafficking in.

Well, OG lucci would be like with the bruins, but like retro, I guess we really, that would be the one that you get you get the peer pressure walking into the gun so you buy like the Jersey even though you know like it's not gonna his dumb is gonna change, you're not gonna be a bootleg number like 61 next year where you buy it anyway. It's like when Jacob yells where I was like 46. You have a good 46 or if one of those ones like that. So I think maybe retro is the right way to term that. Was lucci's first, was it one of his first games? He beat the hell out of some guy. Was it our token from the lightning? Was that one of his first fights? Familiar. I think it was. I think it was. He had a big fight in his for one of his first games in every bruins fan for the next 20 years was like every player must do that in their first few games. Yeah, hat trick now. Get out of here. No. Yeah, no. Anyone can score Patrick. Oh, there's still people who think like, oh, Trent fredericks, a face of the bruins, just from that fight against Brandon tanev and his first game. "Giving the thumbs down to the idea is Geoffrey Fowler, Technology columnist at The Washington Post, which is owned by the founder of Amazon. Jeff Take us through what sidewalk is and does yes, Sidewalk is a new kind of network that wireless network that Amazon is making that's designed to connect up smart home gadgets, security gadgets and devices, tracking devices and also maybe some other things that Amazon hasn't said yet. And it's that last part that makes it a big question, Mark and a concern for a lot of people. Yeah, one of them being you. You're not a fan of this. How come I'm not a fan of it for a couple of reasons? First of all, sidewalk the way it works is it takes your existing Amazon devices Your Your echo speaker. Your ring cameras and it switches on their ability to, uh, to take a little bit of your home's Internet connection and share with people around you. And Amazon did this switching it on as of Tuesday without asking people's permission First. It just did it and then gave you the option to opt out if you so wanted, But of course, most people aren't going to dig around in the settings. To do that, So that's the biggest reason I'm concerned about it, but I've got some others. Another one is we don't really know how secure it is yet is creating a new kind of wireless network and Amazon says they've triple encrypted it, which is great, but it's not really been tested as scale before, and so we there just some question marks about that. And most of the smart security folks that I know, say Gosh, it doesn't sound like a good idea to open a slice of your home network to others. And then last, but not least, you know, we don't really know what Amazon's totally building here right? Like Certainly, if you've joined sidewalk and you share some of your Internet connection with your neighbors, you're going to enable them to, you know, maybe add more more ring security cameras and surveillance devices. And already some people are pretty uneasy about the idea that Amazon And their ring businesses building out big brother across many, many towns and communities. What else is Amazon going to do with this as Amazon going to use this network that only it controls for its own business? Is it going to use it to track packages? They're going to use it for to track its drones that it's told us that it's going to send out over our cities. So there's just so many questions here that Amazon really needs to answer that. I think folks should turn it off until we get some really good answers. Alright, I can envision maybe worse. Scenario. Maybe it's unrealistic. But I by sharing my network through Amazon with my neighbors like they potentially could see, like my banking, login and password. Yeah. So this is one of these open questions that we have about it. So that gets to the security question. So the the information that sidewalk passes through your network? What's more at risk is actually you're you're the data coming from your neighbors, the ones that are joining your sidewalk sidewalk network. We don't have any reason to believe that sidewalk would Necessarily expose the traffic on your internal home WiFi network. But again, these are all big questions were speaking with Geoffrey Fowler, Technology columnist at The Washington Post. He's taking a look at this new feature from Amazon. Called sidewalk in which it shares your Internet connection with neighbors. So how do you opt out? Yeah. So, um, First of all, you need to have one of these eligible ring or echo speaker devices in your home for Amazon to even give you the option, so which ones are eligible? Well, unfortunately, it's a really long list that I can't rattle off here. But it goes back to ring and echo devices from 2018. I've got a fuller list in my column in The Washington Post and then Amazon has the full list. On its website, So you have to make sure you have got one of these devices is eligible. And then if you do if you go inside your Alexa app, and then you find your way to settings and then account settings inside of there, you will find a sidewalk network setting and you have to switch that off. I've got a little graphic Russia you have to tap on in my column at the Washington Post boy, Do you get the sense that Others may do something like this. Other companies like Amazon, which provide these devices. Yeah, it's a really good point that you know, Silicon Valley has, um big designs on creating networks that go beyond what the cell phone carriers have. Thanks. Jeff Jeffrey Fowler, Technology columnist at The Washington Post. Coming up next. Why? Managing money is like riding your bike, especially near retirement. I struggled with symptoms like frequent gas and stomach pain. For years, I was bloated all the time with daily diarrhea. At first, I thought it was what I was eating. I kept thinking it was stomach issues. So I did my research and talked to my doctor and we finally uncovered the truth. It was actually e p I x a Quran..

"I couldn't help but think what are the next four years going to look like? And as a woman and as a journalist? I was troubled. Then the very next day, I'm back on the clock for CNN. I am backstage at the women's March. All the Maga hats are gone. The pink hats have replaced them. I am surrounded by what I'm going to say is the largest huddle I've ever been in the middle of my entire life. I had never been surrounded by so many women on guy was I was moved. Deeply. You know, I have been covering the presidential election. And I noticed the women were showing up in a way in this country that I'd never seen before. In my 20 year career and so to be in the middle of this giant huddle of the women's march like that's when I knew I needed to dedicate the next chapter of my career, T shining a light on women and not just famous women. But what I affectionately refer to is extraordinary ordinary women and that really Alison was the unofficial beginning of this book. And then the last thing I'll say about it is Yeah, I stood. There is recent is 2017 and looking around these women and taking my reporter hat off, and I had this whole internal dialogue of what? I have had a huddle. What? I've got a group of women who would have shared a gas tank or stood in the long quarter party lines and you know, made are taking our magic markers and made our poster board And the answer is No, I didn't. And I knew that needed to change. What? Give us some examples s so people can conceptualize. What are some visible huddles? What are some huddles that you've seen in the news or just high profile, huh? Yeah. Well, here's an example. Since you know a lot in the crowd live in San Francisco. I got to meet Chef dominate Quran, Dom Quran. She is the only woman three star Michelin chef in all of America, and her beautiful restaurant is in San Francisco. It's called Italia credit, and she didn't get there without some mighty mighty hard work. And if anyone has ever worked in a restaurant, you know that it is this much of swashbuckling sort of culture and she was able to push push her way through. Remember interviewing her, and she was literally like showing me burns and Scars on her arms from shucking oysters, the wrong way like I'll spare you the details, but, you know, she persisted. And so she gets to this position. She has this beautiful restaurant, San Francisco. And then she would be doing these interviews with, you know, food journalists and these journalists should be saying, like, why aren't you featuring more women, you know, and then the journalist who said Well, we don't know where the other you know great women. Chefs are and she was like, Okay? This is BS, and I'm gonna literally bring them to you. I'm going to create this like restaurants or of summit and bring them all to you know San Francisco, where I will drop them in your lap and you can interview them that way. She's always amplifying other women. One of one chapter in this book is about you know, pioneers who are in these male dominated industries. Who who amplify others. So not only did she amplified all these other women chefs to get pressed to get attention on the restaurants in various places around the country. She also hire so many women she hires people also based upon No, they don't have to tick all the boxes of like the traditional white male resume. If you are talented if she believes you have the special sauce, she's gonna hire you and just the way she changes the culture and her kitchen into Taliek Ren is Is something to pull and show, So she's one example of a singular woman improvise others. I'll give you another, which is where the whole huddle journey began in Houston, 2018 19 black women, one seat on the bench, so judge positions and Harris County, Texas. So this is Houston, Texas. And I remember sitting in my CNN office the day after Election Day, and 2018 and somebody sent me their picture because the whole thing their story went viral because of the photo. That they all took of these 19 black women before before they had won their races. All in this one giant photo. And you just don't you still take photos like this, and I got picked up in the New York Times and across the board and I wanted to cover them. But we just didn't have a car cup runneth over. You know, on a day like that, But I've mentally filed it away. And so I knew that I wanted to also just honor the legacy of black women huddle and I started my journey there and they told me the story of you know how these air women who who have Have, you know been then lawyers for for two decades, and they have gone in front of judges. They could count on one hand, how many judges were black? And they could count on a pinky finger. How many judges were black women and all of a sudden you have these 19 women or 17? I think initially who win their primaries there in the smallest room. They don't really know each other and they're sitting there and they're looking Around and they start to count the faces, and they start to realize how many black women are in that room, and they decide to come together. "You know, what shocks you about some of these people is, you know, I always I mean I love in Congress. I think I do a good job. I hope I get to do it a good long time. But if I were voted out because I did what I thought was right, I would go do something else. I'd find meaning in my life by the teaching practicing law, you know many other things the idea that for so many of these folks they can't imagine doing anything else that they they look through this lens of how do I stay here? That's every you know, every decision they make is dead. I preserve this position and it paralyzes them and you know, you look at the Senate Republicans who voted to acquit the president, you know, they in the face of overwhelming evidence. They made a judgment based on faith in my view what was best for them to preserve their positions as Sarah. Yep. That's a terrible place to be it's a it's a paralyzing place to be it's not good for the country It produced the wrong results and it's very sad in a lot of ways that people don't feel like they have other options. And so everything is about how do I get to keep this job? Well, let me ask you cuz you know Merrick Garland had confirmed sorry for the starter. I get a little nervous talking to such a great Congressman but now he's been confirmed. Is he going to are we going to investigate the Lauren boots and for all that off the tortoise? I mean these insurrectionists the day before? Yes, I think you know, I think part of the reason the President Biden selected to read Quran is because he knew that there was dead. To be investigated. There are a lot of criminal investigations that needed to be undertaken and I think the president wanted to be sure he picked someone who was you know, beyond reproach someone who had impeccable Integrity who no one could question America. Who is that person and President Biden said, it is my intention not to interfere in the justice department and not of course do a Donald Trump did which was wage act as if it was off his own personal law firm. And so I think you'll see judge Garland our attorney general gone conduct appropriate investigation still do it with integrity and he will do it. And I you know, wherever those investigations leave he will take the appropriate action, but I think he was selected in large part because he's a person of just extraordinary Integrity. No one could suggest you could be influenced in any way politically for or against any person or organization, and I think you could expect him to conduct all appropriate investigations. That's great artist cavallin from Facebook. Please join ask ask the congressman why Ted Cruz was meeting with Trump's lawyers during the.
