"Leading Russia and the Super Bowl, when they beat the Patriots, the undefeated New England Patriots, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, the leading Russia and that Super Bowl for them, Ahmad Bradshaw was a 7th round pick. You do not need to draft a running back number two overall. For your running back to make an impact. By the way, Nick Chubb is available in the second round. 34th overall, when they drafted will Hernandez, they could have got Nick Chubb or running back instead. By the way, Nick job is now a star running back in Cleveland. And he was taken 35th overall one pick after the Giants drafted in the second round of 2018. So again, I would take offensive guard Quinton Nelson number two overall instead of saquon Barkley. Then in the second round of the draft in 2018, if I could time travel, I would draft running back Nick Chubb instead of offensive guard will Hernandez. And it's kind of funny. I actually think Dave gettleman had the right idea here. You need to fix the offensive line. You need to draft a running back. Him and I just disagree on the value of offensive lineman, because I would prioritize the offensive line. The O line is more important to be talented than you're running back. Nick Chubb is good enough. Cyclin Barclay is incredible, yes. But the difference between Nick Chubb and sake on Barkley and the gap between will Hernandez and Quinton Nelson is the gap between the two offensive linemen, I just mentioned are way bigger. Quinton Nelson is the guy I would pick and then I'd get another quality running back in the second round. It is actually harder to find a guard that Quinton Nelson than it is to find a running back who can contribute and get a lot of yards..

"We are in. We are officially on the board here. Stephen you and i both have made week. One bats and i wanted to just go ahead and put those out. They give the reasons why and let everybody know why we did what we did. I took the over in this week. One game between the jets and the panthers. It is sitting at forty three. You can still find it. Forty three over at the over abedin. Gm and here's the thing the jets. This defense could literally be again now that they are without kara lawson. They're going to have no pressure yet again. On quarterbacks this could be yet another bottom five season for the jets defense. And i honestly believe that this jets offense with the playmakers that they put around the improvements that they made an. I think zack wilson's going to do just enough to where this team is going to be feisty. I think this team is going to be a little bit foggy. It's going to be one of those teams. That doesn't win a whole bunch of games but certainly is not a comfortable team to play against throughout the course of the season. And so i think they put some points on the board carolina. Panthers i definitely think are improved on offense but again same deal on defense should be some woes but they have enough power and enough firepower to to score some points on this jets defense for sure and i think the jets are going to be able to do the same on the panthers. I think this total is too low. I liked the jets on. I like the jets panthers over forty three and again that is still available out. There i have also bet at ari lockton over forty three on this game. My my old colleague at four four t j hernandez did some research over the past five years. The average combined points when the home team is favored is about forty seven. So we're getting forty three here so just from a macro stance that's four points lower than what the average has been in these situations over the past five years And then in a micro sense you look at this matchup up everything you said right. I mean this is a sneaky overman. The panthers offense. I am huge believer in with with joe brady and the weapons that they have I don't think sam darnold can do worse than what teddy bridgewater did last. Year and teddy bridgewater wasn't bad. I'm not saying that i'm just saying that. I think the baseline here is just for an average defense. So i i like that. I like the fact that the panthers are still building on defense and wilson's going to get every opportunity to throw the rock around and they did an awesome job rebuilding their passing game. I think corey davises as a chance to be a target monster this year With the other options. They're just still developing. It seems like he has the best report. This point was that wilson so Just with what we know about these defenses and the arrow pointing up on both offenses thing. Forty-three is just too low of a total one. Other thing i wanted to point out if you are a teaser player. This colts and seahawks game is currently sitting colts. As two point home underdogs. This is a game that is going. This line is going to move. If carson wentz and quinton nelson officially get ruled in they are pacing to be able to play in week one..

Is you ready. Maybe knock on the show hold head coach. Frank rake co host of good morning. Football brand. oscar. Nominated actor michael. Keaton still to come host of money court. Kevin o'leary and now rich is our number. Three of the rich eisen show is on the or what a great fun hour we had last. Michael keaton was as advertised. Just terrific. he's in a new film called the protege. That that's terrific. And i recommend you go see a on friday assault last night in advance of the conversation. Today and the celebrity true false. We deal with him was one of our one of our favorites as we hit We had mr mom beetlejuice. That's the right man. I know what not not. All at once in order spread spread those out And and and we also Hit mister rogers neighborhood with him and he was on it. That was great. That was just a fun fun. Conversation after kyle. Brandt joined us from good morning football Our number one frank reich was on the program said the us very encouraged by wentz in quinton nelson can't sit here and say he doesn't have the crystal ball did drop. It is what it is but that was in reference to the taunting stuff. That's out there and his response was terrific on that because it's player. If player is his player. Benny lemay got running back. Got hit with the most talked about taunting penalty of the weekend. And i loved his answer for two reasons. One is he basically said. We don't need to do that around here. When when you channel your energy your team your teammates. That's what he said. He told the team after lemay got fifteen yards for just a nanosecond staring down at the guy. One of the like what four five panthers just troubled thirteen okay he or and their families you know and and so Not only did. I like the answer for that too. But it also echoed what i had to say. Which is the win for me here. This why i do show like this is my right yes to give you my opinion. And then and then have somebody in the league that i cover and talk about exactly what i said. Also where you don't really see coaches thanking interviewers for questions. After that i that i that i Phrase the state and the sense. 'cause i understand talking to nfl coaches now in my nineteen. Th year of doing such figured it out how you phrase it. Yeah i've never. Did you like how i got into the subject of winston quinton nelson and you run the risk of you know making light of their situation because that could have went either way when i started the interview by saying that this interview is going to last anywhere between five twelve minutes to five future. I would've just walked through that door with harbinger interviewed. Nick serianni before like i. I won't do that. But i've interviewed frank reich several times right. He knows. I'm not like a troll. You know so. Jason just told me he just got the five to twelve reference just a whole hour. Two hours not the brightest. Sometimes it's okay. It's alright i'm all of a sudden. Something happen watson costly. He walked just cured cancer. And now he's sitting there and just can't even Walking gum everything ready could And so karl. Brandt was here in our number two and gave a very impassioned plea for the bears to start justin fields week number one and he made an i mean he came up with four five different takes and approaches to say the same thing. Justin field should start and and the best thing had to say is. Because you're not. You're hearing nonstop That maggie matt nagy the coach there was on the chief staff when they drafted mahomes and how he watched mahomes sit for every regular season game until the final regular season game and that that year helped him become the mahomes that he is today mean. I'm giving you the shorthand version of it. But that's the general sense of it. Nagy even said when he came on this. Show right after drafting justin feels. That's the plan. Is that dalton's job. And he wants fields to sit like having a nice year sitting and watching just like the chiefs were able to do with mahomes and he knows that plan he wants to do. It not even said at the time in the middle of the interview. i'm. I'm kind of proud of this too. Which is why. I'm bringing it up. I don't think you're going to have the ability to do that. Coach and part of that is because you know andy. Dalton does not have the bears fan base in the palm of his hand or have the bears fan base Attention and trust because of years of work in system and in that city that alex smith had just built up in kansas city. It's just it's it's not the same scenario. I it's the same scenario that draft somebody in the first round that you drip move up to go get you trade up to go get and you have it. And you want to have marinate and succeed. That's the same scenario. I understand that but everything else is different. So that's the bears approach right now. I as i said. I don't hear in a single person in chicago. Land or know of any an- anybody any bear fan saying you know what i think you know. Slow and shore wins this race. Oh let's start. Dalton certainly against aaron donald and jalen ramsey week. One in the new so-fi on sunday. Night in front of al chris. God and country nbc. I don't know a single person doing it. We do that person in chicago. Is named andy dalton and this is what he had to say on the subject of starting week one and beyond howdy work around the awkwardness of all of the justin excitement. Yeah i mean you. You can't focus on that if you if you focus on that and that's going to beat you down so i know who i am. I know who i was created to be. I know we're.

"Him but the giants have to be good this year. Or else they're going to have to rethink things worth noting. Daniel jones only turn the ball over three times in the second half of last season. The offensive line did play better as the year went along. So if that continues to ascend. And the kenny golladay area's. Tony kyle rudolph type pieces. They added around him. He has a chance to be successful every year. They address the offensive line. Though every year it manages to get worse. I don't understand how that happens. That is going to be the most important piece of that puzzle as we continue. Aaron rodgers will not be playing. "I'll let off the show with this little frustrated but a man coming off office. Three rehabs is an angry human. I think a miserable human is quint nosing. Going to be better after he said fuck that. There's no time for pity truth is i'm thankful thankful for the early part of the timetable says five weeks. It gives me five weeks to do everything. I can physically and mentally be ready to go week. When smash these goals do your job. No matter what d why jay and then mwr that was motivating from quinton nelson. Maybe want to run through a wall but thinking of a man who has come out of three different rehabs. I mean is that is terrible cruel and unusual punishment to guy for an offseason. Or and he's going to be very I mean thankful when he gets back on the field anytime. You're taking away from it when you don't plan on especially when you get back into something like something new. It just feels like man. I've been waiting so long to get back out here things that you may have taken for granted earlier and yeah three surge. Do we know not want to split the right. i see. we didn't even know about the first two until the serb-run came about and i don't know how. How do we not know about that under the radar even when you look it up now you can't really find much on the first two. I mean that's one of the greatest. He's going to go down as hall of fame. Guard is going to go down the hall of famer. He's the first round draft pick here. People love him here obviously for good reason. How do we know yet to surgery. That's crazy or they just like i don't wanna say minor cleanups scopes or whatever and you still have to have those. You still have to get out. Yes still getting put under the and he sought to rehab him and he still have to go through the entire process. You know you tell me if. I'm wrong in saying this anytime i came out of rehab. I was in better shape. Obviously because literally. You're working out like three times a day with a trainer or physical therapist. I was in better shape. Coming out of those rehabs. Then whenever i wasn't now it was a miserable experience mentally. I wasn't probably in better shape than i was whenever i didn't have to do it. But because you're working out on your body so hard it's like basically all you're thinking about all day. Maybe this'll be an. I'm trying to think of a positive for this. He might be the best nelson. We've a robo quinton nelson coming out of this. Is i mean. is there some sort of worry. Though that these types of injuries tend to linger in the five to twelve week period is like quinton nelson. It doesn't thank you. aj please preach else. It might somebody else..

Two of the indianapolis colts biggest stars. Best players out with the same damn thing and their foot carson. Wentz to surgery went very well. "I haven't seen his tape in a little bit. But i really liked you. Guys took a One of my favorite offensive linemen couple years ago will hernandez i don't i don't know if he's played. Well asked your. But i know i really liked him coming out in the draft. I got a chance to meet him senior bowl and watch him play when i went down to the senior bowl. Uncover it a couple of years ago. And he was a guy. I really liked and So not sure if he's Play last year. Didn't watch a ton of the offensive line. He's he's been he had talk. He had a tough two thousand and twenty. He's he's been. I described him as kind of an adequate player with the giants. He's been kind of an average starting guard which and he's moving this year from left guard to right guard which is interesting because he's never done that before but hernandez i think he disappoints giants fans because we were told that this guy was the second best garden the draft after quinton nelson and quinton nelson is of course all world and hernandez just hasn't hasn't met that sort of expectation. He's a decent. He's been decent. But i think because they're such a huge gap between decent in quinton nelson. That that he's disappointed people. But hey before. I let you go. Let me just throw this out. I don't know if there's a a question or two that that you might have for me in In regards to giants yeah. I'd love to hear a little bit about the draft class. And that's something that broncos fans follow closing get a lot of people that are big fans of the draft and follow it pretty tightly and interesting to hear y'all take you saw some of the moves that The giants made think it was obviously going earth ticket.

"Five. Are you in? Or are you out? All right, staying in the NFL. The Indianapolis Colts signed center Ryan Kelly to a record four year $50 million deal, making Kelly the highest paid center in the NFL. Earlier this offseason indeed gave tackle Anthony Castonzo, a monster two year $33 million extension the third most per year for any lineman in the NFL. Colts will also have to pay two time all pro Quinton Nelson once his rookie deal expires in 2022. Inbounds roundabout seek. It is a mistake to tie up So much of your cat on offensive lineman. I don't think so. I think that s I'm going to stay out of bounds. I think in As well. I mean, the pandemic changes things because of the monetary decrease that's going to happen to the salary cap. Even though it's not is it is it is a floor on how far can fall so I'm still going to stand by it, I think The NFL of all sports is going to rebound really quickly from the revenue loss. The MBA might have some problems because of China's situation, the MLB as well. I think they might have some problems getting fans back in the stadiums. Maybe not. Well, see, I think the NFL though it's it's it'll soon as they turn this. This is the faucet back on. It's gonna come flowing out. So, yeah, given the salary cap is going to rise on continue to rise, and given that the core is one of the most important parts of a team obviously need your quarterback. You need your big time playmakers on both sides of the ball, but offensive lineman and that trench it's paramount. So I'm going to say out of bounds of that, by the way was the Packers and I was thinking of was last with Agent Peterson. It wasn't Minnesota with Packers. Are you in or are you out? All right, let's move to a little MBA here. As expected, John Morant won the MBA Rookie of the Year award receiving 99 of the possible 101st place votes. Alone other vote going to Zion, who actually finished third behind Miami's Kendrick Nunn. After accepting the award, Moran addressed not winning unanimously. I need to figure out who is that person? You know who did it The first message, Tio. Thank you. No more no more for you better. I didn't know whatever. Can anybody know that isthe Let me know. While Zion played just 24 games, compared to Marantz 67. Williamson average five more points a game, double the amount of rebounds and a PR seven points higher. So inbounds are out of bounds, speak while more and played significantly more games. Zion was the more impressive rookie this season. I'm going to say out of bounds of that, and it's not. It's not even Zion's fault. The Reality is Zion had injury issues from the very beginning. And as a result, even when he came back, he was limited minutes wise on even after a 3.5 you know week.

"Severed Cisco Forty niners also made a big trade. They sent one of their blue chip. Defensive Lineman away in a trade deforest buckner dealt to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for number thirteen overall pick The writing I guess was on the wall for Buckner in San Francisco when Eric Armstead of the niners got a five year. Eighty five million dollar contract on Monday on Monday so they couldn't pay both of them. They chose Armstead so buckner goes to the colts. He's a big time. Disruptor West a guy that's Star and the colts at a major piece on their defensive line. Feels like a good trade for both sides really. Yeah I like this deal for both sides. I understand why the forty niners did it. They basically chose Eric Armstead's versatility over deforest buckner being more of an inside player and the colts. This is what they've been waiting for. You've got all that cap room. And they got criticized last year for not using it but they wanNA spend it on guys who weren't difference makers they didn't WanNA spend it on guys. They really have to a year later so now they had eighty million dollars. Cap Room. You go out and get deforest buckner. Making the second highest paid defensive player in football in the prime of his career. A Guy who has voted. Mvp by the forty niners of their super bowl team. This is the kind of guy you want to build around. And now you've got Quinton Nelson on one side. You've got areas Leonard and deforest buckner on the other side. You've got a pretty good secondary and you've got infrastructure. This is kind of deal. You can make because you're GM has created all that salary cap space and drafted so well that you don't have to press to fill holes in the draft or Free Agency. Andrew Luck's Retirement Highlights the NFL's Growing Problem

"Know what it wasn't long ago. I think it was last week when two weeks ago when mclovin said hey how about this poll question is andrew lock more likely to be an slight disappointment or hall of famer and this is when the ankle injury came. I remember it was the calf and then the owner robert say said i think it's an ankle and then i started to think there's more involved in this. There's more to this story. Sorry ben just glynn from the calf to a high ankle. I don't even i still don't know what he has but we know it serious enough that he announced his retirement and everybody's got an opinion on this. His decision to retire was a shock to the system for you know the the entire n._f._l. Nation when people say boy oy this is the most shocking football story we've ever heard i mean like new. No no no no how about we start with o._j. Simpson michael vick aaron hernandez. Those are shocking stories. Andrew looks different cat all right he is. He went back to college to get his degree. He could have left after his junior year. He went back to get his degree in architectural design. I believe he there are guys who are or football players and then there guys who play football most our football players j._j. Watt is a football player. Should he still be playing football. No no not at all but it andrew luck is a guy who is a guy who was good at playing football. I don't know if he's a a football guy and there's a difference in that but that doesn't mean he wasn't good at it or didn't love it. I just think that we're we're so unfamiliar. Oh you're with an athlete who uses logic where you go. What are you doing. Most football players in pauley had the analogy. Let's say you have a rock rock in your shoe. Most football players will continue to play in fact. Stop down on the rock. Where is andrew luck goes. How about. I just take the rock in my shoe. I mean it sounds logical. He just took the rock out of a shoe. Football players will tie the shoe differently like they'll somehow find a way. Hey i'll walk differently who care i'll take madison. Shoot me up. Whatever andrew lucked just said. I'm gonna take the the pebble <music> out. He's removing football from his life. Everybody has an opinion on this and when he started rattle off the list of injuries it makes a lot of sense but it's hard for us to imagine and by the way athletes are just commodities. We've moved on from all of these athletes. We don't care really don't care eric. Dickerson joined us in los angeles when we were out there and here's one of the great running backs of all time any looked great. I said the kind you look like you could give me a couple of carries. He said people don't realize the toll that this takes on goes. I slept in a reclining chair for two years because i had neck and back injuries. Nobody cares about eric dickerson's injuries. Nobody cared about jim. Mcmahon's injury his health. He thought about killing himself. We move on and andrew luck realizes that and yes he got paid paid and the reason for people to be upset and how do you do this to your team. And how do you quit on your team. I understand those emotions. I really do but i have to look at this and say andrew. Luck did what andrew luck thought he needed to do. Is it inexcusable to you know oh colts fans. Yeah i get that. I don't think he's saying boy. Watch what i'm gonna do. I'm going to set up the colts for failure now. I don't think i think that he had to process this. It took a long time. It's something you do you do well. It's your identity and maybe he doesn't want that is his identity and can you get away from this. You know the guys who had all the surgeries. I'm seeing all of this stuff here. Everybody's saying how do you do. I understand all of those emotions. Russians here but andrew lock did what andrew lucked thought he needed to do. If barry sanders was a quarterback and he walked away we would have abba bigger issue with what barry sanders did at age thirty-one calvin johnson at aged thirty. Jim brown age thirty. What are you doing walking away from the sport. Guess you've got a contract extension. There are a lot of questions. I have ranted you luck in this situation. When did you really know and when did you let the cold snow and what is the reason. Is there more surgery down. The road like you went through shoulder. You had and i put some of this on the colts by the way ryan grigson in particular the former g._m. What did i say for years. You have this investment. It's like having this unbelievable engine but then you have a car that's falling apart. You traded for trent richardson. You didn't use any lyman you finally went out and got quinton nelson and what happened. Andrew luck had the best season of his career. He had the fewest sacks. It's not something that takes a whole lot of thought. Hey how about we have a good offensive line. Chances are andrew. Luck might be able to play play a little bit longer but so many injuries and then you start to get down on yourself and you get in your head and you don't wanna go through it and and i look i couldn't play the game. I've told you if you ever watched a game on the sidelines. You never let your kids play. It is violent. It's more violent than you think because when you hear it you can close your eyes on the sidelines just listen. There's no way you go yep. I want to play play. I know we're macho. I know we all wanna play through pain. I did stupid things with my knee and my shoulder waited thirty five the years to get my torn rotator and i'm not even a pro athlete. I have an artificial knee because i was stupid when i played this guys out there and they're taking shots at him. He's getting hit lacerated kidney. He's got shoulder. He's got yeah. I understand all of these injuries. Do we want him out there. Yes because it's about us he. What are you doing to my fantasy team. Hey what you doing to my colds. You're you guys got a chance to. I understand hold loose things but this is something that we don't understand an athlete who says i'm gonna take a logical approach. He's a guy he's got a flip phone. He's got a book club. I mean he he's not your normal guy. Hi and we can't understand this. He's newly married. We can't understand this because all of us would go. I killed a play and make that kind of money and be a starting starting quite yes. This story is about us in how we perceive. This people didn't play wanna tell you they would play or how oh you need to play or. What's wrong with your your soft. You gotta take a step back and andrew luck. Doing i see all of this twitter chatter. Oh this is going to stay with him forever. I is very sanders. A quitter calvin johnson a quitter. Is jim brown a quitter right i. I haven't heard that i'd never heard somebody say. Jim brown's a quitter. Barry sanders quit walked down on the <hes> the lines how can you do. I guess andrew luck is a quitter but i'm guessing will move past this calvin johnson. Is he a quitter or see smart. I don't know i just i saw this reaction this vitriol that andrew luck how dare you do for this. He walked away from his team. I get i get it. He gave up on a sport. He excels at but no matter what people say. I think we can all agree. Andrew luck was outstanding when he did play and wishing luck and no pun intended with his life after football.

So we have four in the two point oh mock draft with Daniel Jones from Duke rounding out of the last pick of the draft to the patriots in the first round of thirty two. There are only three quarterbacks now in the first round, according to mel's latest mock. And obviously a retirement might be a big reason why and the quarterbacks have changed as well. Right. As far as where they're they're going. Well, Cuyler he still has Tyler going number one derozan. Well in his last draft Cuyler going number thirteen to the dolphins. So now and this draft he hasn't going number one. He had. Dwayne Haskins going number six at a giant Kyle Murray. Going number thirteen to the to the dolphins. Drew lock going fifteen to the Redskins and Daniel Jones going thirty two to the patriots. So as you mentioned Daniel Jones now out of the first round, according to the latest mock draft by Mel kiper, just three quarterbacks Murray number one. The main says Dwayne Haskins at number six, and you start to hear reports that the giants may go defense was six and then was seventeen go quarterback. But right now twain Haskins at six and then drew lock sitting there at number thirteen for the dolphins. Does the only three quarterbacks in this latest first round. Yeah. Going to be very interesting because we know what the giants listen one thing. Dave Gettleman has made very clear he does not feel beholden to tell us his plan. And so I don't feel overly beholden to believe. A lot of what we're hearing coming out of the giants can't because if you've got a guy who's basic messages trust me, I got this. Well, then we understand he doesn't feel like he has to tell us the truth. So as we hear these things. Coming out. We also understand this time of year is about deception to an extent it's trying to manipulate the draft order trying to manipulate the opinions of certain players. So that you can try and put yourself in the best position to get the guys you ultimately want. So it makes it difficult to try and read the tea leaves it is although I have to say on cattlemans behalf. He said all of last spring saquon Barkley is a generational talent with the second overall pick. And that's where he went. Look, I think we all agreed. There has to be a quarterback in the giants future. Whether it's at six or seventeen trade now Cleveland, but it would not surprise me in the least if Dave Gettleman waited until the second or third round to take a quarterback this Dave Gettleman, he created that created, but he he made the term a more of a vernacular in the NFL draft hog molly's when he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers. He loves the big guys to hog mollies. And let's be honest. This draft is going to be decided outside of Kyla Murray. More than anything else about the big defensive lineman in this draft. The hog Molly is on the defensive side of the ball. So depending on your draft grades for your quarterbacks you could take one of those at six and then a quarterback at seventeen it all depends again on your on your draft great. If twain Haskins is highest on the board and draft grades. You don't pass that up. If you have a Dwayne Haskins drew lock. And whatever other quarterback equal in grades. You know, maybe use that seventeen pick baby can trade it up somehow to get one of those guys as I said, this always comes down to grades. Do. You have a choice amongst grades. Are you close enough in quarterbacks where if you don't get one you try and get the other? But we'll see we'll see, you know, one of the biggest changes in from the last two this for Mel was they had the patriots taken Daniel Jones a quarterback, and this one I serve Smith junior the tight end from Alabama going, and that would not be shocking at all you have really three out of the top tight end Hopkinson the kid from Iowa teammate, Noah Fant, and then Smith junior all three likely to go in the first round a three first round tight end to on the same team come on. And what would that tell you as we saw? The patriots jump into the first round and take a running back and Sony Michelle at the end of that. And now to see in the next year three tight ends going. We've talked about this. However, you want to split it. Last year were Quinton Nelson. Went in the top ten in the draft as an offensive guard. We saw roquan Smith going the top ten as a middle linebacker. The middle of the field is worthy. NFL is being built right now. And other teams are starting to catch up to what the patriots have done for years. The way that we've seen teams export that specific area and three tight ends in the first round would hammer that home not denying that. They are guys that are certainly probably more talented than usual tight end groups. We're used to seeing but it's also about value. It's why you see running back taking it to overall by the giants last year. I mean, the other thing is I think they're more interior linemen in this first round then quarterbacks right? Like, a not tackles guards and centers. There are more of those according to males latest mock than there are actual quarterbacks being taken which would be very unusual. So the top five in this new draft that Mel kiper put out is Kylie Murray. Number one of the cardinals Nick both the D N number two to the forty Niners. Number three. Josh Allen the outside backing backer pass rusher going to the jet number four Cornyn Williams. To the raiders and number five guy making a pretty big jump. Devon white going to Tampa Bay at five in the last mock draft he was number eleven to the Bengals now in mel's draft. He is sitting at number five number six twain Haskins seven Joon Taylor. The offense attack from Florida going to Jacksonville sweat, the D N going to the lions at eight Sean, Gary the D N going into the bills from Michigan and TJ Hopkinson. The tight end going to the Broncos at number ten. Here's here's what I wanted to talk to Mel about and one of the issues that I have laid on me big fella with with this draft comes, you know, some some point and one of them is there are few prospects in new first round projection who are making their debuts because of their combine performances. There are four guys who have jumped into mel's first round who weren't out there before again based on the combine combine performances. I don't understand that. I don't I don't understand that. If you wanna say. You looked at the combine to go back and look at tape of them. But to say, they're combine performance jumped them up that doesn't compute to me. Well, I think that's I think that's the assumption though, is because of their performance you went back and look and that. That's fair. That's why I want to ask them. How did this? Make you go back and study them more. Because if you're just basing things off the combine I got a real issue with that. Yeah. I I don't think you would do that or teams. But at the same time, you look at the positions of the majority of the players that would be involved in that. And I think this could be true for teams as well. It's interior offense. It is right. Three interior offensive linemen Terry McLaren the wide receiver, but when it comes to interior offensive lineman. You wanna talk about an area where the scouting grossly lags behind to actually great and overall draft. It's a difficult area for a lot of people to see and understand because you don't have the benefit of a lot of stats. You don't have the benefit of even the combine members necessarily always translating to production. So when those guys go and they paying and they flag in the model somewhere for what they do at the combine. And then you go back and spend some more time looking at a guy like Lindstrom who wasn't going to be a big name. He wasn't like, you know, Gary bradberry from North Carolina State won the Remington award this year. Like that guy was a stud Boston College was a middling. Okay. ACC team this year. So Lindstrom wasn't getting the credit. He deserved even being as good as he is. So you go back now, and even these NFL teams, maybe we're late to the party on some of these guys all of a sudden start giving them an extra. That's why I want to ask I just wanna make sure with Mel that because I'm just reading from the combine performance, and again, let's put a name. To those you mentioned McLaren the wide receiver who is one of the others. Chris Lynch reminder, you just mentioned from Boston College now. Number twenty one to Seattle Eric McCoy interior linemen going number twenty two to Baltimore. Right and the Garrett bradberry. The Senator from North Carolina State who is you mentioned one the Remington award is the best center in the country number thirty one to the LA Rams where they have an aging center, and John John Sullivan. And that was that was one of the things have been saying for the Rams the last couple of years that dynasties been built on the interior. If you land a guy like that good, Lord or you winning out it is. So we'll see how that plays out. Now, the one thing that I find interesting he he has drew lock the third quarterback Mel dozen his latest mock going thirteen in Miami. I'm telling you don't take out Denver at ten in Cincinnati of eleven in play for quarterbacks. I mean. Yeah. Denver made the play for Joe flacco. But John Elway has messed this up a couple of times with all due respect. I mean, that's just outside of getting Peyton Manning. He has not figured out the quarterback spot there at ten they might be in play for quarterback. And you have Andy Dalton with his situation with the Bengals and his contract situation. I, you know, I think that there's a really good chance that they could be in play with a quarterback there, by the way, by the way, Mel kiper Jr's mock draft not the biggest item related to the draft this week. That will have news for you guys. What more on that coming up later? This week

"I absolutely would give him the money because I think he's really good. He's the type of guy it was like clay Campbell? When he was Amazon ah the way they used him. He was never gonna get fifteen sacks. He was leading up inside a lot. He was asked to do a bunch of different things on the interior. And then as soon as he comes defensive end for Jacksonville he's getting thirteen sex year. The trae flowers might be that kind of player, I think using a slightly different way in a slightly different role. He could be a guy that warrants a sixteen seventeen million dollar a year contract. I just think he does every little thing. Right. He's the perfect patriots defensive player in a lot of ways. He doesn't play. He doesn't play position. They value outside of that. I mean, if you can get Earl Thomas, that's pretty awesome. It's a weird free agent class. There aren't that many big names? But I do think a lot of these defensive players are. Gonna make teams better. Whether it's Landon Collins Earl Thomas Tyra, Matthew. I mean these dudes can play who decide questions. So I guess I have three questions the second what free agent with the patriots could the patriots sign next three weeks that you just be bummed out. Golden tate. Oh now Jackson and seat. I fucking love going. Yeah. That he'd be better than to everybody who is our second receiver last year. All the all the guys who were just blanketed by everybody else's cornerback. Yeah. Amid ongoing. All right last question because I know you're watching the the you went to the combine. I know you're at the stage where you're watching YouTube clips of random offensive lineman. Probably a little too much. It's weird. It's it's almost a borderline fetish of you watching offensive lineman just blowing people off I watch all positions. Equal. Average person who said dude on the colts Quinton Nelson like ee definitely spend over one hundred hours. Watching Quinton Nelson tape who is your favorite everyone should who is your favorite guy in the in the draft for offense of honestly, I have not watched that many guys. But the one guy that keeps jumping out because it's free agency happens. I it's like the weird thing about the NFL calendar that we go to the combine free agency happens like five days later, but bradberry the NC state center, everyone seems to love him. And I just think he's one of those guys from everything I've heard Garrett bradberry that just going to get drafted by a team to be a ten year starter in the NFL. I just love players like that. I think that dude's like Travis Frederick players of that ilk. A really good investments. And I think that a team like the Rams or the Panthers somebody like that is going to draft that guy in the first round and be very happy about it. It's funny. How it's always like a center or a safety. I remember the year. Ed Reed got and I can't remember where he went in the draft. But he everybody agreed that he was like one of the best two or three pars draft. But he went like eight or ten or whatever. And it was just clear immediately. That guy was gonna be awesome for ten years. And it's funny. How people never just kind of wanna take that person in the top three. But we all know, the guy's gonna be awesome. So you think the center is going to be that guy this year? I he seems really safe and then the linebackers. I mean, Devon white from everyone just thinks it's going to be somebody you can drop in he'll play forever. I dislike players like that. Where you just feel really good about who they're going to be. And that's why was funny last year. When Quentin Nelson went six, then everyone was like God, that's too high for a guard everything else. And then you watch Nelson play. It's like, oh, he's one of the best five guards in the league already. He's for twelve years. Yeah. We we all knew that going in. Yeah. Colts. Would that be your kind of that? That's kind of the x factor team. Feels like cutting the fridge 'cause they have like seven hundred million dollars to spend and a a quarterback that nearly brought you to tears enjoy a couple of times last year..

"You think there was a time that you know, what this guy's done? I don't know that I ever will. So far to say he was done. I personally can't I think a lot of people felt this way back even if Andrew locks arm was going to come back at full strength, which obviously it has now. Psychologically was the question because you know when? Comment on auto. But it was roughly a year ago when he said at this point. It's all between the ears. Kind of a slight but Andrew luck. And I don't think that he was saying I don't think he was calling. I saw. Simply saying that, you know with any athlete. Hesitation. You're not exactly sure what the body's going to do. And. You know, you get a little bit of like a clock in your head start thinking about it. And I think Andrew luck is to the fact that you said. You said he'd know. Questioned if he was going to come back and play it so early. Of what we went through with the Peyton Manning next situation of not knowing exactly when the nerves we're going to respond for Peyton Manning at what was going to be obviously Denver was got the fruits of that. But for Indianapolis. I just think that even early in the year, lots clearly his own was really strong. But yet there were times or his throws because I think. So far, the m- you at that point. And I'm talking about like. Even at the arm. Strict was one hundred percent can the brain of knowing how much needed to tell the to go was still not all the way there because I think luck was sticky to jobs up at times. He was really over eating holdover throwing balls. And then other times he's giving everything into it. And he's coming up short because it was just inconsistent from one. But that's how much it responded. And then obviously he worked through that. And. You know that? Well, it was pre injury. I think he's probably ahead of where he would have been just through natural age progression from twenty two to where he is now. So in the end is it turned out to be a good thing. Long term for that might be a little bit of a stretch. But there is no doubt. I think anybody in Indianapolis everybody in the NFL that says you, oh, I had no doubt. He was gonna come back. This is what it was gonna be is like I mean, I just I think it's that simple. I I don't I don't think anybody new truth be told no doubt about it. Now also offensive line was key in this was an offense of line years ago that people look man, they just can't protect Andrew luck. He's a great quarterback. But they just can't protect them Costanzo. They're grabbing Quinton Nelson was huge Ryan Kelly from bam. A couple of years ago talk about the offensive line because we know those three names, but we don't know all about this offensive line. And they do have what's called continuity and.

"On to and we're going to disagree on too. I agree with you on the call. So I like him getting a five and a half against the cheese and he's going to win the game outright. You hit all the things what they did last week against Houston. But a couple of things in this game. Maybe the MVP is Quinton Nelson. You offensive line has been unbelievable for Indianapolis in his run nowadays. Ten out of eleven games. Offensive line has been unreal. And Quinton Nelson absolutely destroyed Davey and cloudy in that game. And I would not David cloudy is set as a free agent. If he was my team, I want know bottom. Let me just say that is very overrated. Nelson. Wipe them out though last week. He's been on believable that whole offensive line has been unbelievable. And you're right. I mean, Andrew luck is already is going to be what is seventh or eighth playoff game already. We forget about that these ads success in the playoffs. He got the one AFC championship game. And all the pressure is on the chiefs yard. Evan say they haven't won a playoff game in hopes Joe Montana in nineteen Ninety-three and San as great greatest Mahomes has been he is a rookie. Actually, it's the second year. But it's his first ever playoff game. I ever playoff game. It's really. The second year. I obviously as the full time starter all the pressure in the world is on the chiefs here all of it. I love the colts. I think the game outright whatever give it a colts plus five and a half in Kansas City against the chiefs game too much, again, I like the Cowboys getting seven we against the Rams that place is going to be like Jerry Jones world eighty thousand seats easily fifty thousand cowboy fans into building. It'll be unbelievably like a home game for the Cowboys. And and the Rams have not played football down the stretch. They really avid outside of Howard, Donald. I don't love their defense. The Cowboys ever better defense and Congolese banged up. And zeki. Oh, Elliott is LT. Yeah. I got a feeling about Dallas here. I I really don't. I really do. I think the Cowboys getting seven I'm with Evan. I think the winning the game outright. I really do. Give me Dallas plus seven in LA against the Rams. So we agree on the game Saturday now we're going to go the other way, look everything you said about New England you're one hundred percent right on defeated at home. Patriots until somebody sticks to fork them. You gotta believe they're going to continue to win. And the other thing that worries me a little bit about this Georgia pick is it. Everybody's picking the charges. I did. That's the one thing. You didn't even bring that up. Everybody loves the charge. That scares the hell out of me right with that said, I'm still taking them getting the one thing about the charges. All right. They have been unbelievable. Data lost the game outside of LA, therefore losses with three losses. And one was the Rams in LA at LA. They have one in Seattle. They have one in Kansas City. They have one in Pittsburgh. They have one in Baltimore. Pretty impressive. And even one in London. If you can't beating the Jaguars in London. And I think they're going to beat the patriots in Foxborough. George is like I said, I'm scared that everybody loves them. But give you the chargers plus four on Sunday in Foxborough, and I'll take you gotta go. I gotta continue thanking eagles. I don't know if they're gonna win the game. I don't know. But I have one four weeks in a row with the eagles. Nick foles has got me on a run. If I only was bent these games out, you know, and not just take it on the air doing. Well, I have won four straight with the eagles. I think the saints are gonna win the game. I think is going to be a close game and the lowest scoring game than people think I really do. But I gotta take the eagles getting eight you know, until I see the Nick foles magic actually run out. I gotta take them. And I think that that forty eight seven beatdown really means something to Philadelphia, and they are the defending champions, which we continue to forget. So even though I think the saints are going to win the game. I gotta take eagles. I've been on a road, and how can I stop? Now. Give me the eagles plus a in New Orleans against the saints. The Baringo picks divisional round giving a colts plus five and a half in Kansas City, you the Cowboys plus seven and in LA against the Rams on Saturday. Give it a charges getting four in New England and give you the eagles. Get Nate in New Orleans on Sunday. So I'm taking all the role teams and all the other dorm the Joe beningo Evan Roberts. Pro football picks divisional round weekend in the NFL. We're doing picks we have.

But it just struck me that I think if you asked general managers, what the least important positions are on a football team. They would I tell you every position matters. Don't you think Sam they might say at least some of them would say probably on offense probably guard and on defense, probably like an off the ball linebacker. Yeah. I think they probably would. And you know, I think the analytics and the numbers would probably back them up as well. But it's a lot of that is is about exactly what you mean. When you say lease valuable, a lot of NFL getting talent is about how bad the player is and just getting back to average not necessarily how good they are. So if you have a really bad weak link at guard, it can be a real problem. I think the point that the analytics would always make is that you don't need to get a quick Nelson to to repair that issue. You know, you just need to get a guy there who isn't the weekly Incan isn't causing the problems here offense, and the sort of the extra that you gain from going from that average left guard to an all pro left guard is not going to make that much of an impact in terms of winning games. And I think the same thing is probably true at linebacker. You know, if you get back to average if you get a guy who isn't getting killed every single play. You got most of the way there on the extra you get from going from that to a. Very good player doesn't really make make sense in terms of throwing a huge amount of investment there. And you know, I think the analytics and the numbers would probably back them up as well..

"That's why you trade it for Trent Richardson. That's why I said at the time you have Andrew luck. It doesn't matter. How good Andrew luck is if he doesn't have time. So you went out and got Quinton Nelson, which I said he might be the best player in the draft. Any might be. But I'm not giving you credit 'cause you went out and said, oh, you know, let's go get offense lineman. I'll give you credit that you drafted some good lineman. But you know, having offense lineman to protect your franchise quarterback. And go figure who came up with that approach. But Andrew luck is played great and the Texans with those great defensive lineman didn't sack him. Yeah. It's interesting when you give quarterback time it can be pretty good. So that's what it was. You gave Andrew luck time. He's not getting hit Mosey sack less than twenty times this year fifteen times. That usually equals success. If you're not gonna put hands on my quarterback or hit him or he gets injured. Now, the colts did the right thing. They got some draft picks. They used them wisely. They went, you know, because normally you're not gonna take linemen that high. But you know, the NFL scout who told me Nelson is a bad, dude, man. Like, he's bad. He first team. All pro. He's a bad, dude. He's he's he's the real deal. All right. So you bring him in. You're getting a guy you plug in for the next ten years that I mean, that's what you want. That's what Andrew luck wants. I think is about the third play of the game and cloudy bit for a pump fake and kind of jumped and Quinton Nelson got into his ribs and just pancaked and they showed it about four times. Yeah. No, no. But they MAC is really been the surprised because I think those about a month ago when I was hearing, you know, maybe the colts with lady on bell. And the colts seemed to have a good running attack and MAC is cheap labor on Bell's not cheap. And I thought okay, you know, the colts are taken the right approach here. The not spending a lot of money. But as far as Seattle goes, you know, do you have a running back you can count on? The philosophy. They ran the ball kept running the ball. And I kept thinking at some point. They're going to go. Hey, russ. We screwed up this game plan. Can you win the game fourth? Sorry. We did it again to you. And it never happened. I would have I want the best player on my team to have the ball in his hands. And they were taking the ball out of his hands. Yup. Oh, the colts are paying their star running back Marlin MAC five hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Yeah. Six forty next year because you can you can find a running back we've seen that you can find him. Now, the talent is finding the running back, but they're out there. And do I want you on bell on the colts answers? Now. I'd rather spend my money wisely on other positions there. You got a really good defense sneaky good defense not sneaky anymore. But you know, that that's a sneaky good defense. Would I like another weapon for the colts? Yes, if I'm Seattle and Russell Wilson. Yes. You always want another Wepener too. But you know, they've invested in before in running backs and it didn't go. Well, you got to beef up the offensive line. And the defense is in is threatening. As it once was, you know, you got a hall of Famer and Wagner, but it I mean, it's just not the same as it. Once was it's nowhere near the legion of boom. Let me see Eric in Virginia. I eric. What do you have for me today? Hey, five ten stout. One fifty. Welcome back. Good to have you back start with the worst. I guess since. That's we'll be better. Hey to see the Seahawks lose. But the injury to that kid, man. Remember the Louisville injury with the kid with the way and seeing Hearns. Yeah. Yeah. Man that was that was tough to watch, thankfully, they didn't really replay it that much, but you know, Dotson British the him and his family but best of the weekend..

"You could follow me at Danny Parkin's on Twitter based out of Chicago just came over from Soldier Field where the bears lost in heartbreaking fashion. Sixteen fifteen to the eagles. So now the eagles to New Orleans and the Cowboys go to LA to take on the Rams actually like the Cowboys in that game. There's just something about how that Rams team finished the season. We're talking about how watching Andrew luck yesterday. Anna solidifies something for me that he's just he's all the way back and he's back on track to be all of Famer. He was awesome early. He's got the pelts on the wall. He's proven that. He can do it in the postseason. Not just because yesterday, obviously, he has the biggest playoff comeback in NFL history. He was down thirty eight to ten to the chiefs came back and won that game forty five forty four. And I think that he's gonna go on a five-year run here where we're going to be talking about him. Like, we talk about guys like Bryce Harper. Tiger Woods LeBron James where he was called the the best quarterback prospect since Elway. And he's actually going to live up to the hype they got over one hundred million in cap space. They got the GM they got the coach they've got the quarterback. They got nine draft picks. And they also have an offensive line. That's protecting him. He was hardly touched this year. Which for a guy with his injury history is obviously significant sacked only eighteen times in the regular season. But I still can't put him above Pat homes because patent homes is all those things and he hasn't been hurt. And he's still on a rookie contract. In terms of. I'm building a team around a guy tomorrow, whom I taking and my guests coming up at midnight eastern is Carrington Harrison I did five years of radio. This guy's one of my best friends in the world. He's wildly talented and people should hear him national stage. So we're gonna talk wild card weekend and chiefs colts and Pat Mahomes with him coming up at midnight eastern, but eight five five two one two four CBS eight five five two one two four two two seven discussing. If you could you could choose any quarterback in the league build your team around him starting tomorrow. What's your order? I go Mahomes. One luck to Russell Wilson. Three George in A has a name that I should be considering what's up, George? You're on CBS sports radio. Hey, Danny Parker. I really liked your show, man. Okay. Thank you. I'm sorry. It is because golf to me is better than people don't give him credit, and I think because of the coach McVeigh, and I believe I would go Mahomes golf and then Andrew luck. Because gos- technically is really on his second year because Fisher knew nothing about almost destroyed them. And I think McVeigh has the talent coach wise to make him a much better quarterback. I think he's gonna get better. Mom, you're gonna get better. Here's my question. Here's my question. George because you're absolutely right about Jeff Fisher. And you're absolutely right. That Sean McVay gets a ton of credit for what's happening in LA. But what I'm talking about? Is you take the quarterback and you start your team with them. So if I'm starting you know, an expansion NFL team in Montreal. I get Jared Goff. But I don't get Sean McVay. You think he's this good? Because he if you think he's good. He's still somewhat a product of that system. No, no. I I agree with you in that scenario. I wouldn't take him in the first three. But with McVeigh I would. But one thing I was going to tell you real quick. Could girly got injured that Chicago game. They weren't just saying that game in Philadelphia was American forget C J Anderson because everything about Ceram Rams to the running back. He noticed that dirties chomping at the bit for next week. And I don't think we gave us Cowboys going to be that close. What do you make the Cowboys did to the saints in that front seven? Well, that was very impressive. That was in Dallas, you know, and same team on the road in the Cowboys. They're secondary's terrible. Yeah. There's there's there's secondary isn't good George. I appreciate the call. But everyone says well that Cowboys game was in Dallas. It was. But. Never been to Cowboys stadium. I have not for a Cowboys game. But it's it's the different beast. I was there for Michigan Alabama game. And the crowd was split probably sixty forty Bama, but. It's legitimately seven stories. Like, there's no big grouping of people, even though the stadium can expand and hold over one hundred thousand if you add ancillary seating in there. It's just it's a it's a it's an unbelievable stadium to go to the video board is everything. Everyone says it is. I think it's an incredible place to watch a game. But it's not loud. Because there's never there's his fourteen rose. And then a new section and then twenty two rows and the new section and then roll luxury boxes and eight rows, and then a luxury box, and it's just everyone's just kinda spread out the polices massively. I've never once watched a game at Cowboys stadium in Blake. Wow. What a tough place to play. I thought what a cool place to play. But I've I've never thought. Wow. What a tough place to play. So when Dallas did that it was also on field turf. Just like where the saints play. Yeah. It's not as impressive as doing it in the Superdome. But that that showed me like, wow. That that defense is legit. Thinking about it. I mean, they've got Jalen Smith. They got Vander ash, and they've got the Marcus Lawrence all in their front seven. Those are three all world players. That is Ed is a wildly talented group that I think can make difficult on anybody. And there's something about golf that. I just don't trust. It seems when they lost Cooper cop and people figured it out the system a little bit that he's just a little too robotic a little too much a product of the system. I read breaks down kind of breaks down. And by the way, that might be good enough to win an MVP and win a Super Bowl one day because the system is so good in girly is so good and McVeigh's so good and Aaron Donald is so good. But it absolutely might be good enough. I don't know. But you know, Matt Ryan won an MVP by being totally mediocre quarterback every other year of his career. But one year he had Julio Jones Kyle Shanahan two running backs and one an MVP. So you can you can be great. If you're a system quarterback can all stars ally. But we're talking about your building a team around the quarterback. You don't get the coach that comes with them. So golf's to me is not that special of Italian. He hasn't proven to be that yet outside of where he's at. Let's go to Ohio eight five five two one two four two two seven Frank. My guess is given where you're calling from. I know the name that you're gonna put on this list. Daddy. Yeah. You probably heard it from the screener as well. Mikey Morada quarterback. Baker mayfield. This guy's phenomenal. Look at the turnaround in one year for the Browns. They haven't been exciting for a decade and they make the playoffs, but he played fantastic. But so hold on. I'll let you let you respond, but be honest tomorrow. I'm offering you a trade. Pat Mahomes for Baker Mayfield your Browns fan, you're saying, no. About the guy. He's got he's he's he's got. You're you're you're keeping Baker Mayfield. Over Pat Mahomes. I am because he's got the it sector. He wants to be in Cleveland. I don't want to be in Cleveland. Okay. Okay. Second. And I'll throw I if I'm doing the fast putting Rogers third I think he's the best quarterback in the league my head a bad year. But if I'm building a franchise. Well, I get to pick the coach and all the players are on them up still going Rogers third. While. Okay. Then you really love Baker Mayfield Frank. I appreciate the call, man. I think that Aaron Rodgers is the most talented quarterback I've ever seen now Mahomes might be coming for him. But singular talent isolating talent within a team sport. Which is what football general managers have to do. And it's the hardest part of their job. Aaron Rodgers is the most talented quarterback I've ever seen play the position. The deep balls thrown through tight windows on a run overcoming bad coaching, overcoming inapt, organizational, personnel development. He is just a remarkable player. And it is negligent that he's only been to one Super Bowl. But you're factoring in wants to be in Cleveland, then sure Baker Mayfield saying all the right things, by the way. Baker Mayfield seems amazing seems great. I am absolutely a fan. And I'm rooting for him. And I think that a lot of the crap that he took coming out of the draft was nonsense. And I said so at the time, I I am a I'm a fan and I'm rooting for him. And he's probably in my top five but Aaron Rodgers thirty five years old. So if I'm starting a franchise, and I could get Pat Mahomes on a rookie deal or Andrew luck at twenty nine or Russell Wilson in his twenties or Baker Mayfield on his rookie deal in his second year in the league, I'm taking those guys because I know they're good. And I know they'll be good for ten years, whereas Rogers he's had injury problems. If I had to pick a quarterback for next season. I'm taking Rogers, probably maybe Mahomes. But I'd tha Rogers is I need a guy for next season. I'm taking him. But I'm starting team. I'm going all out. I don't think so this whole conversation started because of Andrew lock in the colts and watching that game and just having it be solidified that man that guy is us back. He's back on track. And I think we're watching hall of Famer who's about to enter as prime in an unbelievable organizational position. And what was interesting about that game in this colts season is and you saw it during the broadcast yesterday of colts Texans. They have the first pair of rookies to be first team all pros in Darius Leonard the linebacker and Quinton Nelson the guard since gale sayers and dick Butkus for the bears. A phenomenal draft by Chris Ballard. So the colts got it. Right at GM. They got it. Right. It coach they got it right in the draft. And they've got all this draft all these draft picks and all of this money to spend. So looks like they're in good hands going forward. But I was thinking about Quinton Nelson. Because so I'm here in Chicago. I watched Notre Dame football knew all about Clinton Nelson knew he was going to be incredible people who I trust it in. The sport told me that he was the best guard prospect in twenty years knew he was going to be great. But you know, as you as you watch football on you, you watch sports, and you learn, and you just file more things in your database acute you adjust your your worldview when you start thinking about things, and you may be learn where you were wrong, and why you got things wrong in the past with predictions or scouting players or whatever the case may be and before the draft I said about saquon Barkley and the giants and Quinton Nelson the colts. I said I think those two players are the two best players in the draft. But I'm not sure I liked either of the picks even though. I liked Quinton Nelson. The colts more than I like saquon Barkley to the giants because it just felt like in a salary cap sport that taking players at those positions that highly you were spending too much money on that position. And they you gave them too high of a bar to clear for example saquon Barkley when he was drafted second overall. Immediately got the second most guaranteed money ever in the history of the league to a running back. Now Todd Gurley has since surpassed it but it was Adrian Peterson one Todd Gurley. Excuse me Adrian Peterson one saquon Barkley too. So to me it was to give for saquon Barkley to live up to that money given his position and they need a quarterback. He asked to be all pro good for a while. He knew two thousand yards from scrimmage, so he's he's on the right path. But it's no guarantee that he'll live up to that money. Because of how often that position gets hurt. Now Quint Nelson of the colts is a little bit more understandable and defensible to me at the time because of the Andrew lock health issue and how badly they needed to protect them. But still a guard at six seemed like a risk in too much money. But I think what I got to reevaluate about those two pixes. Just get stars. If you know a guy is going to be a star take him and don't worry about the position. I think there's still a really compelling argument that the giants should have drafted Sam darnold over saquon Barkley. But I don't think there's a good argument that the colts would have been better off drafting anybody else. Then Quinn Nelson. Maybe ironically saquon Barkley, but. I bet you if the colts had the number one pick in the draft last year. And they could have had job or Denzel ward or saquon Barkley. I bet you they would have seriously considered Quinton Nelson because the biggest thing of their franchises protecting Andrew luck. So it's just an aside. But I was thinking about that watching the game, regardless of position get the stud. Speaking.

"Is unbelievable to me because this team that was maligned and now the colts have gone five straight games. Yes, sir. Without allowing a sack, which is the longest sackless streak since Steve McNair when six straight games without a second two thousand six who would have thought this collection of Lyman this cults. Team would be the line that would go five straight games without surrendering sack. What is that line doing what does that offense doing? What is that team doing that? All of a sudden, Andrew luck cannot get touch during a game is unbelievable in Chris Ballard GM and Frank Reich. The head coach have done a phenomenal job at changing the culture in that locker room. And when I say that even in training camp, I went in and I watched them, and I talk to the offense of line Antarctica the team after practice, and I remember going in yesterday, and we walk in the locker room pre-game, and I told told Chris and Frank this feels like home this is the locker room that I'm used to when you walk in. There's an expectation. They're going to win games. There's an expectation that their offense and defensive lines are going to are going to run roughshod and give them a chance to win games. And I'm so proud of of the. Culture that has been created in such a short window. It's Ballard singing and Frank's first, but the culture that's being developed and the belief by these men that they're going to go somewhere. They may not be this year. You know, they may have some pieces they gotta fix, but I'm telling you there is a belief in this locker room amongst these guys did impact a football team not for just one season. But for a collection of seasons and not only did Andrew luck. Not get set. He didn't get touched yesterday against a line in a defense. Totally ret Tom Brady and the patriots the week before. I mean, they harass radio all over the field. They couldn't touch Andrew luck. And the throws it. He's making the timing that he's throwing on when his foot hits the ground. I could I could take cutouts of manning and that offense with Frank Reich years ago when we were playing and look yesterday when it's back foot is hitting the ground. He knows where the ball's going whether it's Hilton on a post whether it's a drag out whether it's a hitch on the silent what and the ball is. Coming out and the trust. He has between the receivers tied ends and backs of where they're supposed to be it looks like the offense that it should be and the timing, and the consistency that everybody's playing with it all starts with elephants of line. But everybody's bought into the philosophy of whoever's turn it is. They're going to get the play. And I'm telling you man, I told him yesterday. We've been texting this morning. I'm just so proud of the way that they're handling it and Q Nelson Quinton Nelson. They're they're pick their first round pick. He was six or eight. You know, Ryan Kelly their center this is third year Li it's best football. He's playing and I was talking to him before the game. I'm healthy. I can binned can move. "Hemmer a free agent the colts picked up, big tackle, jamarcus web today. Web was out on the market former Seahawk former raider former Chicago bear so what I did, was I. Walked to the newsroom and. I asked our resident bear fan? STAN Lear tell, me about jamarcus web. Is this a good pickup stance at absolutely said. He's not real bright you make some boneheaded play from time to, time he accidentally sacked his own quarterback at one point. With the bears but it's definitely a guy you want in the field so. I, will, take the gospel? From Stanley earned run with that right there okay? So, but what's this tell you. About Anthony Costanzo picking this guy up well. I think we'll be back he's on the pup list with a Hammy what I'm reading from the colts on their official website was that another tackle was. Injured and he's going to be. "The mindset i like him over the the intangible perspective over josh allen just don't think he's a winner he reminds me jay cutler one and nine as a starting quarterback on the road over his last ten starts so i would take our and based off of that but i'm not high on either quarterback in this draft there you go okay so then after josh allen taken by the bills to bears first time i cuss in the in the first round because the bears to grow quant smith and that's the guy wanted the raiders to get a good pick by chicago joe you and i very high roquan smith i cannot blame the bears for taking him i think the bears probably take quinton nelson if he's available for offensive line helped there for trubisky but the end of the day i think they made the right pick number eight grabbing roquan smith yeah i mean we spoke about it last friday i take world kwan smith for chicago a lot of people laughed at me because they thought he would fall to oakland a lot of people had offense and help four chicago i think when you look at your chicago overall they haven't lived up to expectations over the last few years because of the physicality on the defensive side of the ball when you look at some of the teams that they're going to have to match up with in their conference guys like minnesota and now kirk cousins and you look at arran rogers and green bay you need players that can be edge rushers to put pressure to four short intermediate throws under coverage so that's what real clown smith is he led georgia in tackles and sacks he can run sideline to sideline and more importantly could cover running backs in the short intermediate routes and that's what chicago is lacking desperately on their defense so i think.
