"The ad council. Kcbs news time 1212, the San Francisco forty-niners are strongly denying a report that the team intimidated members of a civil grand jury in Santa Clara. Mike dewalt reports this comes on the heels of a grand jury report that's critical of the team's political influence. The allegations come from accounts to the San Francisco Chronicle by two anonymous sources close to the grand jury, one juror alleging they were tailed by a motorist to the other claiming to see an unknown intruder on their property, both believing the incidents related to the grand jury report, retired state senator and San Mateo county superior court judge Quinton cop says he's concerned by the appearance of the team investigating individual jurors. He says it's something Santa Clara county district attorney Jeff Rosen should look into. The he should certainly initiated an investigation, both of the facts and of the law on the subject. Cop believes the team should prove an open court that it isn't in contempt. As for the forty-niners, in a statement, the team admits it's actively pushed back against the report's findings, calling it quote election propaganda, but forcefully denies any kind of juror intimidation, the team saying it's concerned by the reports and would never use those kind of tactics. The Santa Clara city council will form an official response, council member Kevin parke says he has lingering questions. Never happened. Like, I didn't even know things were going on. I'm named in the report. And they never know what to talk to me. No comment from the civil grand jury and Santa Clara county says the report is now squarely in the court system. Mike dewald. "In the village of tewa, Arizona, kids are dropping in on the halfpipe at a new skate park. It's all thanks to Quinton nasino and his friends. There wasn't really any place to skate down here. Most of the surrounding areas is just dirt and rocks. So when the pandemic began and outdoor activity took on new life, the teens got together to start what they called skate two 64. The highway two 64s what goes through all the hopi reservation. The idea to build a safe space for skaters regardless of age or skill. We saw a whole bunch of skaters that were just like skating on those little makeshift parks, you know, at the basketball courts or on the road or at hospitals or schools, just anywhere they had concrete pretty much. So we thought it would be a good idea to bring a skate park out to hopi just because we didn't want anybody getting hurt or in trouble, getting into places they shouldn't be trying to skate. 17 year old Quinton got the idea after he started skating two years ago, on a trip through Navajo country he saw other kids with a better skating scene. There's some tribes around Phoenix too who have gotten some pretty good parks. Whenever I would go to that part of the country, I would see their skate parks and then I would come back to my reservation, then there would be nothing here. I thought that was kind of unfair. The hopi community rallied behind the teens, and with fundraisers sponsorships and merchandise sales, they finally had enough money to build their park and fulfill a dream to bring positive change to the hopi community. "Independence. And I left home. I rented out my apartment. I borrowed a friend's old junkie Subaru. And I went on the road for what ended up being a hundred days and I ended up visiting some of the strangers who'd written me letters and response to the life interrupted column about their own major moments of reckoning and transition. But it took a long time for me to get there. Yeah, it's also I mean, a hundred days sounds like a long time and it is also no time at all when you consider that you spent 1200 days in a hospital when you consider that how long life can be if we're lucky. And what you mentioned about just sort of this lack of ritual rituals are so important all of these sort of transitions that we provide for ourselves and sometimes people find that in a faith structure. Sometimes people find that in their family of origin or their cultural community, but when you go through, they're almost always around with the exception of, you know, of funerals, which is ritualized grief and suffering, which is beautiful and so necessary. We don't do it when people survive something because we think the survival is it. That's exactly right. You got that. You got it. And it's like, it's one of those things you don't know, tell you know it that you can be grateful for what you have and grieve what you went through. What you lost and those things exist together, like very, very closely for a different kinds of less. We used to, like, when you were grieving the loss of a husband, there was the Victorian widows widows outfit. You would wear a very specific hat if you were of a certain class. You address in a way that told people, I am different, even if you can't see it. Something happened to me, even if you can't see it, I am not the same. And I don't know other than novelty t-shirts, which I am a fine purveyor of how we do that. How we sort of signal to other people, I am also a person who has been through something. Because what's so interesting about the road trip that you took and the letters that you got is that the people who are reaching out are not necessarily people who have been through everything you've been through, but who know what that feeling is? Like who know what it's like to have their life thrown off the rails to note it's like to feel trapped somewhere to feel like they are living a version of their lives that they did not anticipate would not prefer and that nobody else can quite understand except another person who is in their own version of that darkness. And in the book, you talk about Quinton Jones and obviously a lot happened after that book too. So I would love to have you tell his story or what you feel comfortable with sharing about his story. Yeah, I think, you know, trauma has a way of dividing your worldview into two camps. Those who get it and those who don't, and yet, more often than not, people feel so isolated within those moments of transition because you're not just having to hold these complicated sometimes seemingly opposing emotions of being grateful that you're alive and angry for what you had to go through to be alive or whatever it might be. But like we said earlier, you're expected to very quickly either return to your life or rebuild a new one. And, you know, I write this in the book, but when the ceiling caves in on you, you no longer assume structural stability. You have to learn to live along fault lines. And that's the conclusion that I came to when I left home on this road trip. That I wasn't necessarily going to find my way back to the kingdom of the world, so to speak at least not in the way that I thought I would, but I was going to have to learn to live along those fault lines to learn to live in that kind of messy middle area of being better on paper, but often feeling far from well both physically and emotionally. And so those different people that I visited became my touch zones along that. They were people who had lived some version of what I'd love, not necessarily similar in kind, but at least in degree. And Quentin Jones or little GQ as he's called in the book, which is this nickname was one of those last stops and probably one of the most impactful ones. And he was a man who had spent at that point more than half of his life on death row. For a terrible crime that he'd committed when he was about 18 or 19 years old. And he had spent 20 years by the time I went to go visit him reckoning with what he'd done. And trying to spend every single day, you know, and solitary confinement. Reimagining the possibilities of who he could be and working on himself and atoning for his past. And trying to make a semblance of a life for himself within a tiny cell knowing that he was never ever going to get out. And he would have been the first person to tell you that he didn't deserve to ever get out, although he didn't necessarily believe that he deserved the death penalty. But I was so first of all intrigued by what had compelled him to write me a letter. He'd written it and response to a column I wrote where I described my intense ration. And that experience of being a medical isolation for many months for your not allowed to leave your room that experience of waiting for a verdict, which is what it can feel like when you're counting down the days to a biopsy result or waiting for a doctor to issue you an extended stay or what can feel like.

"Let's dive in to these hands. We're going to start out with hand from live at the bike. John you wanna break down the action for. Yeah if you're so this. I believe they're playing by one hundred one hundred two hundred fifty one hundred. Two hundred eighty as the big wind is two hundred dollars. Jd opens quinton off suit to eight hundred. James wakes up with aces and the cut off and puts an a pretty standard size three. But this is where the hand starts getting a little wacky. Honestly andy wakes up in the struggle with pocket kings and decides to just flat the through bet listening the audio commentary for this had and the commentators seem to imply that like. Jd had some reason to be tilted before the start of this and he started the hand with exactly twelve thousand dollars. So i think it's very possible that maybe he got stacks very Like you know maybe right before this hand and just reloaded for twelve k And thought that maybe. Andy is trapping kings here with the hopes that jd would find some sort of four bet Or you know just rip in his twelve k stack over the three but And he'd be able to kind of put. James tough spot if james aside flat or or do something with After three bedding so Yeah already sort of often kind of a strange. Start here with andy. A flooding the kings pre flop. Do you know anything about james specifically because it could be the james He is an elderly gentleman. And so is it possible that james just has such a tight three about range that andy doesn't have a four bit range versus james three but i mean okay so what i know about james is. He's a regular on these high six games on my but the bike he plays very very frequently. I'm gonna assume that he's not a professional or like never was a appro. But you know i think he's like you said like leave. It reaches certainly going to be tighter than it should be that being said like i. I still can't see. Andy not forgetting kings just as the standard plate universities. A three from james i. I don't think james is is someone who only has like aces kings queens in king. I think he's gonna at least have you know more more hands than like the ultra-tight wreck player through about range. I mean we'd have to ask andy to know what his strategy construction is here. We can't no i think. The commentators speculating in the same way that. we're speculating. And i think that you know this is. They're very deep here right. Yeah pretty deep spot. It's a three about pot. Already to andy and i don't know i'm not exactly sure. Always constructing is prefab strategy. I do know that. He called very quickly though which means that he kind of knows what he's doing in this spot for some reason or another whether it be the read that like you know the twelve k stacks just gonna jayme it in Although you know facing a three bad and then a cold flat like you have to think that the twelve k stack is going to be a little hesitant to just acts stack in no matter how tilted they

The company's managing director was on vacation at the time causing clients and creditors to believe he'd fled the country as the company collapsed in less than three weeks. Taylor and sons lost the majority of its clients and its suppliers canceled their contracts forcing the company into bankruptcy just two months later taylor and sons sued the companies house. The british high court later ruled that the government registrar was directly responsible for the collapse of the company and awarded them. Eight point eight million pounds with the tab going to the british taxpayers since the company's house was a government entity not every typo results in a lose lose situation though one person's loss can be another person's gain an ebay user posted an auction for his rare bottle of all sops arctic ale brewed in eighteen. Fifty two and perfectly preserved. If you see pictures it really does not look like a hundred and fifty year old bottle. The museum quality artifact of historical hooch should've fetched a small fortune and it might well have if the poster had spelled the name correctly. All sops is spelled with two piece of the seller only used one when enthusiasts searched for the name spelled correctly as you would do this listing didn't come up but one lucky or clever soul found the out of the way listing and one against a single other buyer buying the bottle for three hundred and four dollars extra sad because the starting price was two hundred ninety nine dollars eight weeks later. This lucky buyer listed the same bottle on ebay spelled correctly and raked in half a million dollars before you get too excited about scavenging ebay with common misspellings to try to win your fortune. Rankings with help from some software. The researchers crawled two hundred eighty five thousand of some hundred thousand misspelled sites to estimate what revenue the domains are generating skill up those results. And you're looking at some serious coin looking at the top one hundred thousand sites and estimating point seven percent are typo squatting sites. They estimate typo domains receive collectively more than sixty eight million visitors a day if these typo domains were treated as a single website. That site would be ranked by alexa as the tenth. Most popular website in the world. It would be more popular in unique daily visitors than twitter or amazon. The researchers estimate that almost sixty percent of those sites have ads supplied by google with some quick back of the envelope. Math that amounts to four hundred ninety seven million dollars a year in ad revenue. It's google's policy to remove ads from these misspell domains. If the owner of the original site complains but the article i read didn't reference. How often that actually happens. And that's where we run out of ideas at least for today. "There is this crazy kind. Of like i would say. There are many parts in this movie that feel like crouching tiger hidden dragon with like the wire work and things like that and i think that's a style that he kind of picked up later in the movie and then but when we first meet him he is doing a lot of this crazy. Jackie chan type action. I'm talking about in the trailer. We see the subway scene where aquafina not subway. The bus seen rocco fina is driving the bus. That's out of control. And he's fighting razor fist on the bus. And we've all seen that on the trailer and that is very like jackie chan like i mean not as far as like his performance being comical although aquafina is very funny but just the way he kind of moves in some of the stuff that he does. It feels very jackie chan. Watching that scene. And i'll tell you one thing wants. That scene starts with the whole boss when the musical score kicks in it is fucking awesome and it gets you pumped to watch. This is really awesome. But yeah there's definitely different fighting styles in this and very crouching tiger hidden dragon. I also felt like it's it's not it's not it's almost raid level like but you don't get the the blood. There is a little bit of blood in this movie but it you don't get like massive amounts of blood and all the bone crunching bone bone breakage that you'd get in a raid movie but it feels very much like arrayed movie as far as like of the different stances in the way that they do fight and i swear there's this the bias and i square to you. He does a flying kick and it looks just like johnny cage's shadow kick from mortal kombat and it is fucking awesome. I i lost my shit when i saw that. So wait man. Yeah quinton quinton roberts from the real zodiac podcast asks. Does the movie move forward or is it purely an origin story. It's both it's both It's an origin story. I was in better shape. Obviously because literally. You're working out like three times a day with a trainer or physical therapist. I was in better shape. Coming out of those rehabs. Then whenever i wasn't now it was a miserable experience mentally. I wasn't probably in better shape than i was whenever i didn't have to do it. "Also you'll be happy to hear that Andrew quinton taki. Thirty two years old is behind bars now because Well first of all he was a he was a participant in the worst event since the civil war yes january sixth twenty twenty one. So how was he caught well. A liberal woman disguised herself as a mega supporter on the dating at bumble so that she could catch him. She's named only as clear but she installed the app after a lengthy hiatus and then realized you know what i could do. I could help the fbi find trump supporter. So she did. She deleted a photo of herself wearing a vagina hat at a famous march gay. That was her big claim to fame on on her. What is it the the page where you tell about yourself and profoundly exactly right and so so the vagina hat photo had to go. You gotta take that. Apparently that that is unbecoming of a trump supporter. I guess mind. If she uploaded some generic shot of herself on a boat changed your political affiliation to conservative okay and then reeled in andrew quinton taki who centre a photo of himself alleging rioting and bragged about being pepper sprayed during the violence at cap at the capital. So he didn't say he was perpetrating violence. He said violence happened to him but now he's been arrested by the fbi so that's great. Flipping the Script: A Look Into the Detectives Behind Yvonne Layne's Case

"That we've heard firsthand from an expert about the type of person she believes could have killed yvonne lane someone angry. Who knew von personally and had a reason to attack her with a vengeance and we've heard how botched the crime scene was how the scene didn't match what joe said. I think it's important to take a close look at who exactly detectives were on the case and turn the tables instead of putting the victims under the microscope. I wanna put the cops under it and look at their records and try to figure out why this case was such a mess. I've already talked about a couple of alliance. Police officers like quinton artists. A patrolman who you on allegedly said had started harassing her after a traffic stop. Artists is now a registered sex offender. Then they're officer rick. Who's last name. I'm keeping private for now. Who detectives told the psychic was rumored to be dating. You're on and possibly the father of her youngest child. But now i wanna focus on the four detectives assigned to the case as you may know already. If you've been digging through case files on patriotic. They were detectives. Lloyd bud samson william muko mark walsh and john leech and i want to start with john leech on april first nineteen ninety nine detective. Leach was not on duty yet. He was called in to help. Here's detective samson in his two thousand eight deposition. you've heard clips from before to assist us. Exactly his day off when he got called in. That was true that he was called off vacation to help us this case. And we've called in whether or not was vacation a lot. I don't recall that but yeah he was called in. Did you make the decision. That would be an order now. I do not but somebody did. And so each mccall on the day off part time off and helped samson says. There was no quote lead detective on the case. But according to samson he and bill mucciolo did most of the investigative work leach was mostly on the case to assist like mark welsh. In fact. i won't go into mark welsh much because he wasn't a big part of the case at all.

"How important development is and obviously. I just said you know. I think that they really would need to. The kings have have done such a phenomenal job in element. But it's also because the kind of people that they're selecting because the development process really starts those early interviews where you're trying to find out this player get better and if you pick the right kinds of players. I think guys like mike. Anderson are great example. Like guy knows what he isn't doesn't try to eat something else That's that's a real helpful thing so you see that throughout the shark Throughout the throughout the prospect pool. And that's really important for the kings to continue to work on those guys because as they do that And as the as these players understand that they just find ways to improve. I'm not sure if it's by luck or by design but to your point. I do feel like the kings have acquired more and more players like that. I was particularly impressed last season with quinton by field Who had that same sort of self awareness to kill. Thomas is obviously incredibly in her shirt. And even jared anderson dolan but even even the older players there was a a season ticket holder meeting a stated franchise event were dustin brown..

Quentin Tarantino Admits This Challenged Him Creatively More Than Anything

"Quentin tarantino. Is one of the most celebrated screenwriters of generation but he's just released his very first novel three decades into his career novella based on his movie once upon a time in hollywood that greatly expands the story and characters and even though quinn's comfortable behind keyboard with whatever he writes he does admit making the transition from screen to book was challenged he tells deadline. Screenplays are really easy for me. I'm not saying. I don't work hard. I really work hard. But i know how to do it writing a novel. A piece of prose wasn't necessarily hard but it wasn't easy. I've never done it before. It was different than what i've been doing before. I've been writing these quasi novels as my screenplays but a quasi novel is not the same thing as a novel. Quinton says in the he still plans to retire from directing after his next film but hasn't decided exactly what that project will beat his novella. Once upon a time in hollywood is out. now

Promoting A Team Member To Customer (You Know, Firing Them)

"You have to promote a team member to customer and yeah. I guess it's a really nice way of saying you're fired or you let go and it's never easy to do no matter how righteous it is or how needed necessary. It's not fun thing to do when you think about things like the the apprentice show or we all sat there and just just couldn't wait to see who was fired next and of course it was reality. Tv wasn't really realistic. By any means. I get all of that or how the movie up in the air with george. Clooney were his job. His company that he worked for was to help other companies downsize. Could you imagine just traveling around. I know again. It's a movie but those positions were real might still be real that they pay other people to go fire people in other companies. I can't even imagine being in a company like that were. They couldn't do that on their own front about it. Can you just imagine if that's what you did. Is you traveled around ending other people's careers. You could grow yours because really firing starts with the leader in the sense of the word from the hiring process the on boarding process coaching daily. Showing your team. How to win Do you even have a structure for people who aren't performing before you just cut them. Loose is it's easy in a sense for example on a sales team because you have really hard data that's immediate. They're either hitting a sales quota or not were. Maybe some other jobs are a little harder to quantify and say is this person really effective or not so. Do you have a structure in place that really encompasses what they need to be winning in order to say. Hey you're effective. You're you're making an impact in our company or not and when you don't do that if you don't really address it because you're you're worried about. Hey who's going to do all this work or a. "Both honda and toyota will halt production at plants. In north america over supply shortages. Toyota will intermittently cut shifts or production. That are used to make everything from medical face shields smartphones. Let's bring mark editor quinton web into the conversation. He joins me from hong kong. Hello clinton quinton. This all goes back to the freeze. We saw in february in texas. That's right reflects. Basically the fact that the gulf coast is a huge center for the production of plastics. Something to his grown in importance since the fracking revolution and the deep freeze in february really took a lot of production. Offline and some of these plants are very complicated. Winter Weather Affects Daily Routines and Livestock

"Millions of americans were without power after a storm brought snow ice blackouts and record setting low temperatures to swaths of the country on monday. A tornado struck in north carolina. Killing three people whether in recent days has left at least twenty people dead according to the associated press as we talked about last night on the show one of the hardest hit states has been texas as people there deal with power outages and bitter cold. Some farmers and ranchers are facing a crisis for that we turn to market senator clinton web high quinton so quinton to quote the texas agriculture commissioner. No feed no water and no heat doesn't make for a good situation. What is agriculture. They're confronting right now. That's a very clear. Summary from the commissioner extreme weather in texas has very disruptive for the farming community of course texas is a major agricultural sense at one of the largest in the country by the livestock poultry and that has created all kinds of problems with this extreme winter weather so those range from pipes freezing which means that poultry farms get. What's two chickens to mills being unable to operate which means problems with creating new animal feed to you know problems with getting enough water for cavs castle to cavs dying of exposure. It's really very difficult picture. We should point out. Texas is home to one of the country's largest dairy herds. What's happening with milk production. That's right so there's one cooperative. For example in dallas as a consequence of power rationing. They have had to close that processing plant and of course kyrgyzstan stop producing milk. Just because the power is rationed and the press plan is closed and so that results in this terrible can of wasteful situation where the ultimate the farmers are forced to pour the unprocessed milk onto their fields. This is something we'll be watching throughout the day. Quinton web thanks so much. Thanks very much

Celebrating The Class Of 2020

"Twenty twenty was a year of big changes for me as well. I took on hosting the show. It's almost been half a year and time has really flown. I remember when i found out that. I got the gig. I was buying pajamas. The official outfit and university of twenty twenty when the call came in and i yelled into my phone what And then there were a few other choice words I won't share here. I then went. And i grabbed a second pair of. Pj's a celebration gift to myself. And every time. I put on those. Pj's i think of that day it was a good moment. Another great moment was earlier. This season when i got a chance to speak with actor lorne cardinal who won the imaginative august schellenberg award of excellence. The award recognizes the work of an indigenous actor whose work celebrates the spirit and commitment that schellenberg showed over the course of his career. One of lawrence. Most recognizable roles is sergeant davis. Quinton from the hit. Tv show corner gas. I asked him if he thought taking on. The role of davis changed the course of his career. It did it did in the fact that just national recognition and from all all people they just know really like davis and the davis is basically my version of a pachinko clown. That's how i approached him. Was everything was exciting to him. Everything was new and fresh. That's where he gets so excited all the time because he's actually excited. He loves it totally. he's never halfway with anything. He's all in or nothing. And i mean what a gift to be able to play like a funny indigenous character right because frequently it is. It can be a lot of the same note. I think for seven dizziness actor so to be able to play you know a lovable clown and just live in that world of comedy for all of those seasons and still even now. Because you're doing the animated show right physical comedy. So i was able to bring those chops in as well with that innocent so i was throwing stuff in there and they were kind of like okay. Slow down there turbo easy. Then i can do okay. I'm like that if anyone gives me a prop it's all over. Couldn't find out what it does one of my favorite episodes of security cam. When i got to play with my keizer and i got the police. Shield is well. So how can they have fun with this dropping my hat and bend over and like getting myself into the throat with the police. Shield all the time and then trying to get into the car with the police. Shield while i'm into ended up seeing myself in guide to help me get out behind the wheel behind the glass in the driver's seat. When okay i'm getting phobic now you know it's one of the things. You're blessed with incredible writers. The comedy writers in canada working on that show so we didn't have to do any improvising or anything like that was all scripted and we stuck to the script and we made choices not to bring up the indigenous background of davis. He is what he is. The only time we did we did do. It was a great cup episode. Where davis leaves the tickets for the grey cup somewhere. And they're at the game and he can't find him and stuff in my partner tear. Is you know. Maybe they're in a glovebox. No because they're for gloves. They're not there and i said well i'm just go over there and get them off that person over there and then and tears go no. You can't do that you can't go scalped tickets. You can't do that and i go. Why because of macree man and she goes no. Because you're a cop and it's illegal in but in that scene original scripts said why. Because i'm a native man and so we had the discussion said i don't identify myself. As a native man i'm a crewman. So that's how davis would respond. I'm a man put. The writers wanted no no. We need a native. i said okay. So every take we did i said crewman producers. Come up to me. Say okay. Let's not just give them one so they have it. In the canon. The writers will be happy. Oh sure yeah okay. Let's do it again. I just would not budge on that. Because i know if i did it once they would use that one so i didn't give them any option and i explained. I said this is how i view myself is davis would view and so he doesn't say he's a native man he says he's creek like backwards heritage in one of the episodes. They wanted me to say the eskimo debate came up. And i said i'm not saying eskimo so again i had to defend my stand because i didn't want other people could say it but you know this is a derogatory remark to our brothers and sisters. So i'm not gonna. I'm not gonna say that. I'll say i'll say in you it.
