"Can either put Quincy in its center and move Fortner out to his old guard spot. Or you bring one of the bigs. Austin Dotson, of course, played a lot last year. Mammoth six, FT six Senior. To defend his horse. He got kind of rolled over. It's like they're taking a look at his left leg. Well, it looks like the looking on the right side, so we just get twisted up. Yeah. And all the As Mark Stoops a chance to have another nice visit with the referee Can Williamson thinks that was a little more cordial and course he has helped up by his head coach and trainer. And now we're gonna get a little help on either side of horsey to slowly walk his way toward the near sideline. Bring this young man has been through it all. Hasn't he open heart surgery and everything else to get back out on the football field and boy congratulations and coaches on the modern today Huge win over Iowa State in Ames Smoke comes out. Rodriguez walks out into the Kentucky Hubble. So Q is in there, but he's going to be at the left guard. Yeah, looks like at least from the alignment of the model that is still the center Quincy Wilson was targeted. Maybe when the center job coming into the season after The warrior drink. Jackson graduated, but we slip Portner over there. He's done. Well. Wilson settles in as the left guard Bates too tight ends on the left jogs in motion to the right. So you got a tight end and two wideouts to that side for lettuce low snap, but he bends over gets it puts it in the belly of Rodriguez. Who comes out across the 40 gets to the 41. That'll be a pickup of Ford will bring up a third down and six Levis. If you've done squats in a workout, that's what let us basically had to do and co dad Come up with that staff can be careful because he touches his knee to the ground back there, too. So very close. So it's six or 36 for Kentucky Wildcats six out of seven on third downs tonight trips to the right one wind up to the left, taking that toward the three minute mark. In the third quarter. Robinson started in motion left now. Turns and goes back out to the right. Three receivers to the right as levels drops fires into the middle. It's incomplete, trying to hit the quick slant, but it was broken up by Abrams. Drain Nickelback. Good pickup by Rodriguez. They brought one extra think may if he waits, another beat. Yeah, because he's great little Oakland. He's probably going to run away from that guy and he had time. But it's incomplete. But at least they got out of the hole, and now they can flip the field with a good punt here. The drive started at the eighth. They ended at the 41. So let's see if Barry can flip that field he does is going to be fielded an affair catch at the 20 yard line by Smith. 39 yard, but with the return And with 2 57 to play in the third. Missouri trailing by seven comes back on the attack. So Kentucky A couple of First downs there, but then Passes on, first down and third down. Fell incomplete. Gabriel Horsey. It's a left knee, Tom, we're going to evaluate holding for now. Thank you, Gabe. Basil AC and the offense for Mizzou come back out onto the field. Baby in the pistol formation, gets the call running left runs through a couple of tackles and man drives his way after the 28 yard line to pick up of eight before Jacquizz Jones. Makes the stop on it. And once again, it's second and short. Basically a free play here for the Missouri offense second down into their best run other than a basic lack scramble in the second half in formation. Crazy Lady Behind Basil Act coming near side on a keeper caught from behind and tackled by DeAndre Square. Had an open field at the 33 yard line looked like a bit of a busted play. Snap got into his belly and he couldn't control it, so he just followed the running back through the hole. And he had a lot of space is where doesn't make that tackle? Jones out freshman Trevor Wallace in the inside linebacker position. Opposite square, 1st and 10, Missouri and its own 33 Yard line. Select 24 36 212 Yards goes in motion left Select looking left fires into the middle. It's caught my dove at the tackle made by Mosley, right where the catch was made. Still, he got five on first half Quick square in for five again. It's you know, they're just making Enough on first down to get him in no short yardage situations. Something short passes are like the runs that they did this with last year in Columbia. They're using Roundtree to get chunks of yards on 1st and 2nd down second five Mizzou its own 38 again, baby lined up behind the quarterback. Take it to him. Basil accenting deep Checks it down near side. It's completely his tight end. Hey, makes the man missed its across the 50 into Kentucky territory. Nice run after the catch by 64 £245 Jr Nikko. Hey! He takes it down to the Kentucky 46 yard line, 16 yard game and again check down that initial guy that he wanted primary receiver covered. He checks down. Safety valves open drops it off. McCall out. Hes in on the nose Kentucky trying to get some fresh legs out there to get some pressure on Basil Act. If they get debate, you're running left black steps up in the pocket, and he throws incomplete down the near sideline for Chisholm. Inside the 20 yard line, and Carrington Valentine back in the game on the coverage, good coverage. He tries to go back shoulder, but he really zip that ball out there no chance for Children to get to it. So then I have them behind the chains at 2nd and 10, Kentucky, 46 46 seconds to play in the third quarter. Well, I drink. What's in his first season in Missouri was three games decided by seven or less at the seven point Kentucky lead right now, late in the third, running back beside the quarterback shifts after the right, so it's an empty set. Select quick throw to the near side. It's completely love it. Down to the 36 yard line very close to the first and he might be just a foot short. Nope. They're gonna move the sticks. First down. Just a little curl pattern just ran to the sticks and turned around Ball was right there well known as the first dance signal to change started to move and then The guy with the down marker flip the second down. So it's a completed pass the third, it should say so. 1st and 10 Mizzou at the 36 of Kentucky back to the pistol formation one white after the left two to the right. Running right with baby as a whole comes down across the 35 to the 33 yard line. Where Jones Waiver square. Make the tackle. Not calling those guys on the front three. Jeff tackles or pressures, Not at all. No. They just getting manhandled the point of attack here in the second half, second down and seven after the run by Beatty. And it's an end around Cooper headed to the far side with space to the 30 turns. The corner gets the first down before he's run out of bounds by Asian over the far sideline, So they sent the flow to the right and then gave it on the end around Cooper running to the left, and he had a lot of space over there before. Kentucky closed it off. He got nine yards in the first down on the final play of the third quarter 15 minutes left and regulation. It's 28 21, Kentucky, leading Missouri in the SEC opener here on the UK Sports Network. What makes one head of lettuce better than another? What makes a great greater at Kroger?.

"Smart. Get six three months of instant inc when you choose. Hp plus conditions apply visit. Hp dot com slash. Smart guys. We've got five names to know in terms of moves that happened this week and ripped through them and then we'll give our quick takeaways before we wrap up the show so the i. r. moves rice and john quincy wilson to stand out performers from this past preseason game both of them are going to be placed on the i r with what is designated as ankle injuries. I think there was some sense of expectation that this was going to end up happening. But it's disappointing. That two guys who were starting to look pretty good in the preseason are not going to be available now. In terms of the cuts and waves call haiku teeny who had previously hip injury was waived montreal yardage list with a shoulder injury. He was also waved. And then i think the least surprising move out there was carson tinker the backup long snapper being cut this past week which probably should have been the first cut that happened in my eyes because carson tinker since injuring himself a few years ago when he was with the jaguars has not really been very mobile has has spent a little bit of good chunk of time. Away from the game. Didn't really provide much competition for casey crater in that long snapping situation so to keep him around. I thought it was a bit questionable. But now he's gone. And the giants can just focus on getting the best remaining fifty two guys on this roster absolutely and it's very unfortunate for both rice and john quincy wilson because both those physician groups i know kyle rudolph is coming back it it looks like giants need some bodies aaron raisin john really showed himself in the browns. Preseason game against backups. But like we said on the podcasts. You look gigantic out. There showed some receiving jobs. Call ball through. Contact was taken absorbing hits. Well hadson quality reps as well. This is a you know. Undrafted guy at assignment frazier canadian prospect. Who was a wide receiver so it it's unfortunate for him. It's unfortunate for quincy. Wilson's we were just talking about. Who's gonna start cornerback. If this story jackson injury goes south and when he wilson's name would have been in. There would have been a pretty odd. I would say solid option compared to some of the other guys. That are on this roster. So it's it's definitely unfortunate that cuts. I mean injury related monterey Hey katini got hurt against the jets and it's backup long snapper. Course he's he's one of these cuts so there's really not much to kinda read into their. It's just. I hope these little injuries that are happening to depth pieces stopped because like obviously when you start losing guys in camp and everything like that. It's not gonna be great. And i know the giants dave gettleman. Something he's done in the past they're gonna look at a bunch of players who are released from other teams and bring them in and if they have a high if the pro scouting department has a high evaluation on them then they could end up making the team over some of these back in roster guys but still. I mean we would try to stay healthy. That's going to be the main thing especially when we're in the regular season. Hopefully dorie jackson's injury is not anything serious yet. Just zooming out a little bit. The giants are going to turn the back third of their roster. That's just what they do. They have done that every year. The dave cattleman has been has been here he got. They're going to be guys cut during the week. He is going to bring guys in and we're going learning new names probably at least one to three every week. It'll seem like they're they're definitely gonna be turning through this trying to get healthy bodies. Maybe try to improve their debts even just by the tiniest little increment that they can yet. I feel terrible for rising. John quincy Wilson because like you pointed out. Nick especially now. After today they had they would have had chances to crack this roster starting to get excited about rising john. We saw the big gains he made against the browns the twenty five and twenty nine yard catches but he also flashed against the jets. He does he did a good job of creating and finding separation finding room to work using that big frame of his to box out defenders to protect the ball. It wasn't his fault clayton. Thorson threw the ball into the ground. A couple of times. But i thought rising john was developing nicely into a hybrid. Move tight end. And i thought he had a legitimate chance to force his way onto this roster yet now. I'm wondering. do the giants try to do. They risk giving him. The waived injured designation and know maybe opening him up to other teams making a run at him and potentially grabbing him. Do they release him with an injury settlement and just try to gamble that nobody else was really paying attention or wants to put in the work with him or want him on their on their fifty three man roster so the giants will be able to resign him you. Once that injury settlement period is over with or do they just have him on their injured reserve. And say you know we wanna make sure you stay in house and we will try again next year. You're not necessarily juicy roster news that we would be hoping for during during training camp where we're getting the news of injuries that ends up paying the the lead headlines for this show heading into week through the preseason and hopefully there's positive news that comes from some of those injury news and things like that specifically with dorie jackson most of the juicy cuts in the things that are going to be shocking or going to happen after this third preseason game so be expecting a full breakdown of the final giants roster when that does happen the best way to stay up to date on that hit the subscribe button also leave us a five star review enjoy listening head to big dot com and follow us on social media at big blue you on twitter and graham next votes to talk to you soon for the restaurants..

"He basically hasn't had any kind of a work. This route Training camp and the preseason. So i think josh even with the calf injury he is still probably their best bet. And there's also. Sam bill maher is sambo that is that is a point to bring up in literally if if these injuries keep mounting in the secondary madre harper. He's somebody who was dinged up in the game. It doesn't seem as serious as somebody like. Quincy wilson who was put on the i r. at the two interceptions against the jets in the browns but as much as we got a crash on on deal podcast ago. I mean he might have to make this team if these injuries. Keep mounting the secondary. And we'll have to wait and see. What exactly is going on with dorie jackson before we come to that conclusion. Then we have kion cross onto. Who is more of a special teamer. I don't. I don't into his film extensively at the quarterback position. I watch a lot of this film as a special teamer. But he's another name just to kind of throw out there who's probably going to be a body that is healthy in the secondary that can play cornerback which almost kind of a That's an important. Trait is having a body and being healthy doesn't okay. It almost worked out perfectly though. The josh jackson trade in a way that the it for a week ago and i know he's not the most ideal player to put out there. They signed dory jackson for a reason because he's significantly more talented and was the one of the best available guys that they could get to play that second corner spot. But josh jackson has experienced he has. The talent hasn't necessarily lived up to that talent but he's probably their best bet right now i think i i don't know i can't really point to anybody else. The rest of those options that you guys brought up. They don't really sound that great. I wouldn't be too disappointed. If josh jackson is the guy that if hypothetically dorie jackson isn't available week one if they have to go out there with josh jackson again the experience for me as long as he has that. It's it's not a horrendous option. For me i think my go-to option would be julian love. I think there's another one if you get. Julian love on the field. 'cause you know. The giants like to to use a lot of big nickel dime lot of three safety sets. Borough peppers logan ryan xavier mckinney. Jillian love is kind of that lost piece that you can utilize sometimes in the in the safety room. But as a cornerback. He'd be out there much more often. Now that's what he played in college. It's not an ideal position in the nfl at least up to this point but he has shown the ability to do so. i think he's very versatile. I think he's an underrated player. I think he's a player that we don't really talk about enough as the giants fan base. Which just kind of guy. He's he's solid. He's okay but i do think he's a a good football player that if he's pigeonholed into the cornerback role. He can do that too. A solid level. Probably maybe even better than isaac guide at least down the stretch of the season. That's kind of what we saw now. It was against the browns. When james bradberry wasn't there was against the cowboys in week. Seventeen where he made a couple of really nice place and he is somebody who is really really good run support. And that's what this. Patrick graham vivement loves they love or cornerbacks with spill everything outside the cornerbacks who have to run support. Julian love is excellent in that in that regard yet and i would say the with. Julian love the number of different hats. That he can wear he can play in the slide. He can play out wide. He has had experience from college at notre dame. He has transitioned to the safety. He's played in the box. He's played that free safety position. That i think would work well with the types of coverage rotations. That patrick graham loves to do where maybe you have. It's a zone. Look on that side of the field where julian loved drops into deep zone. Darnay homes drops into more of a shallow zone from the slot position. And yet they're playing a nickel or dime look and they more or less just kind of patchwork a coverage shell together while they're waiting for door jackson to come back and like we said before we don't know as we're sitting here recording this the severity of the injury. We don't know if it's a low ankle sprain. We don't know if it's a high ankle sprain. Hopefully he does not need surgery. Hopefully there are no torn ligaments or anything like that in there. We're going to have to wait to find out about that one. I almost forget sometimes about julian love and his availability. So that's actually a really good point. I'm so used to thinking of him as a safety but that actually is really smart to point out that if they really needed to julian love available you could ask them to make that transition for a period of time until you get back dory jackson that is also not a horrible option and frankly i mean is against him. Last year was not very good. So it's not like you can go much further downhill from what we saw from yatta in a number of games last season for the giants coming up. Oh actually we got one more thing before the ad break that we need to quickly hit on here. Denver broncos announced the starting quarterback for one. You're going to be starting teddy bridgewater. The player that they traded for before the draft from the carolina panthers last season he was the panthers starting quarterback before they decided to move on and trade for sam darnold so this battle between him and drew lock. We have a decision. We now know that it is teddy. Bridgewater we'll probably spend a little bit more time in the week leading up to the giants first game against the broncos talking about the significance of this but just are quick thoughts on teddy bridgewater. Going out there is the starting quarterback. Would we think. I personally think i would have rather seen drew lock now. It's going to one of those floor. Ceiling type of debates. I think teddy bridgewater has a higher floor than drew lock but drew lock probably has a higher ceiling than teddy bridgewater. And when you think of a younger type of quarterback wasn't seen as many defenses was been prone to mistakes similar to daniel jones only feel like jones is a little bit of a better prospect. Unlock doesn't have the as lively of an arm as drew lock. But i would have liked to see him. Go against patrick grams. Unique defense i think graham scheme a lot of different trap. Pepe defenses kind of baited. Lock into a lot of different mistakes whereas teddy bridgewater he seen a little bit more. He's a little bit more He's a little bit better at just judging defenses and it better with his risk management is what i would say so. I don't know if there's going to be as many mistakes. teddy bridgewater. Probably keep pat shurmur offense on script whereas drew lock isn't a certainty to do that. So i would have rather seen lock even though he has that higher upside just because i think he would have been prone to more mistakes yet. I think it really comes down to what perspective you have from. Giants perspective drew. Lock can hurt you. He is a good athlete. He has that really big arm yet. He his peaks are higher than what you're going to get from teddy bridgewater however valleys are also a hell of a lot lower. Yeah he is not a or has not been terribly efficient quarterback he will make mistakes he will give your he will give your defense opportunities to create turnovers he will..

"Quincy wilson was playing a little bit more safety. He was listed as a safety here on the snap. Count chart that. You put together in this article. Chris and he has the interception but overall i thought that quincy wilson look pretty good in that new role previously. He was drafted as a corner. He's a bigger corner pretty good athlete. And maybe if we see this transition he could find his way to in being one of the back end defensive backs on this roster because like that's a pretty good performance in a second preseason game for quincy wilson. Yeah now we do have to find out what happened with the quincy wilson's injury. He did what he did go down. He wound up being carted off the field. I've been just combing through the beat writers especially after a jo-jobs press conference today. I have yet to see anything about injuries. With respect to wilson or and john or anybody any of the giants who went down yesterday so hopefully they are okay. Hopefully they're just little dings but wilson. Was i think a guy who surprised people you know we. I think we all knew to keep our eye on. Carter coughlin yo as he moves to inside linebacker Flash those pass rushing chops again. You've got the sack. got some pressure. I thought he moved well enough in space. Although he does need to work on we'll say the finer points of coverage out there like maybe not tackling the tight end before the ball gets there by otherwise he oh. He moved well at one point he was. It was an overthrow by case keenum but at one point he was actually forced to go out to corner your when the browns were working on their empty set and he did a pretty good job running with the running back down the field in into the end zone yet. Madria harper was the other secondary piece. Who left the game with an injury. He's he didn't want to give up the touchdown and that fourth down play on the first browns drive the that was poor technique not using what jerome henderson teaches. That using that that that forward arm instead of back arm. He went with a back armament. He has no point of contact on the receiver. Just bad technique there and it was really good throwing catch as well and that's really hard to kind of compete against mccarter coffin. Chris you brought him up. Man garner coughlin other than that one series where he allowed that one catch and then he kind of allowed another catch earlier on. I think in that same series where there was like a tight end cross and he'd been a little bit slow by down on it but other than that. He was carrying to meet felton. Who's a really good athlete. Wide receiver running back hybrid type of player at a ucla a rookie down the field. He did a good job bad. He was versatile weapon. He's i think he's more secured his roster spot now. I don't know if it's a hundred percent. But i think he was somebody who i have the impression he was on the bubble. Could've everybody that. The giants added men. We see how he transition on linebacker and how. Yeah there are some words but it definitely is something that i feel a little bit more confident about and then i see what he can do on the edge. I think he's probably more closer to locking up a roster spot because of the versatility that he's going to provide grams defense. I think he's definitely pushing devante downs and i would not be upset to see carter coughlin as the giants other starting inside linebacker next to blake martinez. Either i just wanna throw it like a super broad point. Because i'm just like taking a full view of what we've talked about in today's episode and we're throwing out so many names i feel like evaluating them all and the crazy thing. A lot of these guys aren't going to make the roster. It's it's so strange and we talked about a little bit on the post game. Reaction show that we didn't get any exposure to any starters in this game and i know i let in talking about that but this three-game preseason is so different than i think what we're used to usually. It's it's more gradually working in the starters and getting them more and more prepared for the start of the season. But you know here. We are right now. We were assuming we'd see some of the starters. We don't get to see any of them. It's just. I feel like it's harder to really get a true sense of who's actually gonna make the roster and not we can really key in on who's having good performances but it's kinda hard to really get a true sense of like okay. This guy is going to fit in this role. This is going to fit in that role. I think we won't even really know after the third preseason game until there's final cuts which you could argue. That's a good effective job by the coaching staff. To not expose what team should expect during the regular season. Yeah and it's something that is. It speaks to the coaching of the giant. As well to joe because we don't know exact the exact roles because a lot of these guys are versatile enough to execute a lot of different roles in wear a lot of different types of hats in patrick graham as we saw last year he did a really good job of implementing a lot of these players in a variety of ways. Guys like julian love who was trapped as a cornerback. Moved to safety play. A little cornerback played slot in twenty nine hundred. He can do a lot of different things. We saw him early on his game. He in there for like a drive. Maybe drive and a half had five tackles and then left. You could tell. He built a lot better than the players. Who are kind of on the second team for the browns. And on the second team for the giants. I just think a lot of these defensive players. The giants have can do a lot of different things. And that's kind of what this coaching staff wanted. Out of guys. Jewish love guys at carter coughing campground who i mean. We might not even have to see him on defense because he provides so much value to special teams. That i agree and i think that is kind of a a a skill that especially on defense the giants are looking for and i think it's a really useful skill because we see offenses especially some of the more modern offenses being able to do so much out of really similar sets where they can run ten different plays out of the basically exact same a personnel grouping the exact same formation and it can be so hard for often for defenses rather to know what's coming and with a lot of these hybrid players coming out. Now it's so hard for defenses to match up so the more you can do the more you can do so thing. That's a good note to wrap up today's episode on folks. Thank you for tuning in sure to hit the subscribe button so you don't miss out on any more content we've got the final preseason game against the new england patriots. That is coming up this weekend. "806 064263 or inside Lexington. Call direct to Edo cats or you can post question on the Kentucky football Facebook page from Dennis. He just says it's not really a question. This is the first play the missing man. Uh, look there that waiting for landed to come on the field said that you guys that miss that play really got to his heart and that there's some absolutely great dudes. They're in an offensive line. Yeah, there really are, Um A lot of great great young men in that offense, Align room and John's done a great job recruitment developing those kids for years. And that really was a good idea. And somebody asked me earlier in the week or right after the game. Maybe who that who came up with that and I'm Wasn't exactly sure. I think it was Dan. Dan. Dan is kind of my right hand man. Yeah, He's the chief of staff. Damn Bresil wits and and it was him or one of the guys had mentioned it and then You know, I thought right away. I'm like that's a great idea and be great weight on our John. And then it kind of went away, You know, and we had so much going on, Um, for a few days there was overwhelming and then Come Friday. I'm sitting there. I'm kind of jumping down. I'm like, what are we doing here? Let's get Let's get on. Let's plan this and let's get it done. And we did, and I thought it was Very appropriate and, you know, I know the players really liked it. And it was a class act by Derrick Mason and Vanderbilt because Derek right away and have a really good relationship with him, But Derek would do that for anybody, because that's just who he is. He's a class act and does things right. You know, he and I were talking for a long time part of the game and I forgot to even bring it up. So I knew it wouldn't be an issue with him. Um, and he was already kind of in tune to it from the officials meeting, I guess, but But then my kind of called him back over. It said. Hey, Derek, I'm gonna do this in the first place I got he didn't even bad night said. I'm classes declining that right from the start, so Doesn't surprise me. He's a class act on did it? It was great, Dude, you referenced one of them. I think I said Quincy Wilson's quick, quick, quick offensive line. Let's go.

It's more than just about football, and I hope those fans were louder than the one to complain about losses because it's more than just football and coach farm and show that every game every day. And I just wanted appreciate you and thank you for bringing him on as a coach, because those those kids or boys are our men, and it shows. Thank you, TJ. Well said, and currently appreciate you. And the truth of the matter is the same could be said for you. We appreciate your support What you do for our country and your service. And we thank you. And that is a credit to John. Because I think it was Luke that had mentioned it before, in their view, and he mentioned it again today. You know, Coach was much more than a coach to him. You know, he always Um, you know, taught those young men life life lessons each and every day. He's definitely a special person. And he did a remarkable job with those guys and he is missed. And you're right. T J There was definitely Something missing Saturday. We we all did our best to cover that up into Overcome it, but he was messed and you know, we have to move on now. I think it was Um, you know, really Nice Memorial service, and I hope it helps Lian and I hope it helps those those little kids and I hope it helps our players morn in And have some closure. And now it is time to move on. And John would be the first one to tell you that and that's what we all must do, but appreciate your kind comments and And John did a remarkable job and will continue to build on his legacy and to and to honor him. Thank you, T J That had to be the easiest higher you've ever made. When you call John Sharman. Yeah, it really is. It's a five minute conversation. You know, Um Well, you know it through my discussions with Neil. Um, Neil and I had met and talked, you know, several times, And so when Neil and I were coming to an agreement for him to come in a zoo coordinator, obviously. John was already with him, and then you do the background on John. And it's a no brainer. So there was very, very easy. You know, Once I got the recommendation from from Neil, and once I look into John and call other people and look at his resume and then have a conversation with him, it's very, very easy. Was great, higher. Uh, you know, I could remember, uh, you probably can to how many times the we catch heat about our line, and that's a great example. I'm not lecturing fans, that's for sure. Because God knows I needed something to me. You know, I'm going to be I need to be Yeah, choke sometimes, but but, you know, also, there are times when you have to understand. You have to be patient. There's a there's a ram and a reason for things in early on, everybody was going for No, our struggles. Well, I mean, you have to build the program. You have to get players today. I got the physically developed a mentally developed them and John did a remarkable job. And I'm so proud to have more staff for so long. And once you get the right guy doing the right things, then you like right now. It's just kind of, you know, sustaining itself. It is and you know We want them, You know, T develop leadership when we want them to take it on and teach the younger guys, you know, And so you know that Z. You know what's happening? That's what you're starting to see. You know, something probably get talked about enough with everything that was going on Saturday is You had to do some shifting in your offensive line. Several places you have to shift around something Saturday, but you had Austin dots and making his first start, and Quincy Wilson essentially played the whole the whole game. But no, Luke wanted to be out there. Luke wanna be out there, but he couldn't hang. But one play in the N Yeah, he couldn't Quincy and Austin. I mean, Russia or 300 yards with two new guards thought they really did a good job. I mean, they You know, they did a good job and filled in as best they can, But, you know, um, they, you know there's things that we could clean up. But again, it's a credit to John and all these guys and they could be flexible..

"And you know, he was trying to change the culture of the Jets that did not sit well with a lot of better employers. Then he comes out and they lose the brownout Thursday minus when topples coach said they weren't prepared for Baker Mayfield. I think he said it on the fan. You know that didn't sit well, they're the end of that season, He gave his speech about how he means more dogs. And they didn't have enough dog And I think some of the scenes were looking like, you know. Are you talking about me? You know, like you got rid of this evening. So you know, last year, the people who really didn't like how he handled the trade deadline. I was pretty well known that he was calling plays on the Cowboys to try, you know, telling them tell Gerry, I want to come there. Make it happen, and you even said when we talk to the press after the trade deadline, I want to be loved to be a cowboy and I, you know, had a few players to me like he's the captain of the Japanese. Anyone's gonna cowboy so There was stuff with Jamal, where he wasn't as beloved baby. I think fans start he was in locker, but there's no question about it on the field ability and they're going to miss that. They might be a better team in the locker room without him. But they're not going to a better team on the field about Certainly, And if the Jets are going to be a good team, and let's start with this how How vital is it for? This jet seemed that they make the playoffs because I just got through saying before he got on the air. I think it's a make or break year for Adam Gay Stephen of his year two on then, for Sam Darnold, you want to see that big step forward. That didn't happen in year two. Is there A little extra pressure on this team, even without Jamal now, but the fact that they do have the group largely intact from last year, There's no new systems or offenses that are being installed is it's been a challenge for all of these teams to practice and things You know how How do you do you look at this and make a break for the head Coach. And to what degree for Donald? Um I don't think it's realistic to think this team is a play off team B. I just like I just don't tell anyone and look, I don't see how anyone could look. This demon. They should make the play offs like you know, the guy with the team I saw today I Josh alone starting it like, you know, Josh Malone. You think so? That's where their eye in the corner backs are. You know, bless Austin and made Hairston Quincy Wilson on Ah, lot of guy's only die are just stands now, so there's there are made. That being said there's still immense pressure on out engaged. Obviously, he's unpopular with the fan base. You know if for whatever reason he's you know, got well established. Vehicles. Second offense in the NFL last. The offense was terrible. He's supposed to be an offensive guys. Um, you know, so the offense has to be better this year, and I think, you know, I think Adam gazed state lives of Sam Darnold. If Sam Donald comes out this year plays really well, even if they don't make the playoffs. But they're respectable. You know, they're not three and 13 or 14 12 or something like that. If Donald takes a big step forward, you see progress. I think Adam gave survives until 2021. If Donald comes out, it looks the same as he has our woes and the team. Is Dad gonna be gone? Terms of Donald Maker break. I don't think it's make or break Pete so much as I think if he doesn't if you're not convinced by the end of the EU nation never die. I think a they make a coaching change, and there's another coach brought it here to try to get the best out of him. And I was saying there's probably another quarterback in camp next summer. Competing with him. Sort of what you're saying in Chicago right now. Stravinsky right there with Aaron Echolls. Something like that. I don't think Terra cotta Donald loose after the season, they still have him under contract for two more years. I think you see it coming, You know, quarterback competition next summer. If he doesn't sees it sees the job is here in terms of like, okay, But I am positive this tie for the Jets. The shame of it is and this was It was frustrating to me about the Jamal Adam straight. Even if they forced his. He forced their hand. Yeah. You want to take advantage of the quarterback on the rookie contract, and usually those first four years in the league? Those might be the most talented teams that you play on. And God forbid, that found saved Arnold if he becomes it and a 15 year pro like From a franchise building perspective. How tough a spot is it where the Jets are, whether they're not close to being good yet, and by the time they are, they're going to start paying the quarterback the big time money. Yeah. I don't think you could pick challenger Douglas. And I think the draft so bad here for so long that you know, I like There was no way they could take advantage of standard contract because they have you know, barely a drop takes a lot of traps is no draft picks on the team before 2016 draft. Right. The the 2014 15 16 17 18 drops should be the core of this team right now, right with 1920 coming up. They have No. One from the 2014 draft. No. One from Jordan Jenkins is the only one from 2000. Marcus may be the only one left from 2017. Right, So it's like, you know that there's just no corps here and so the the idea of a I think the Jamal thing Well, yes, it's not ideal player. I don't think that made them significantly worse in terms of wins and losses this year. Like I said, I think he's about the best fire there. Not a better team without him, but I understand. I mean, Douglas. Looks like this is like I have so many holes Still, if I can get two first round picks, I gotta take it and I can't blame him there. Especially after like you said, Jamal gonna force their hand. You don't think the whole and rookie contract thing is as big as it used to be. With quarterbacks on E. I think he was a kind of figured out ways. Maneuver it. You see a lot of quarterbacks now getting contracts after their third year, and I think he's surviving teams are figuring out ways to captain Next year. The captain's not going to go out because Cove it but usually the calf goes up and I take after next year all will go back up again. You know, I know is the key to hold. Thank you a lot of this whole thing. He's drafting, if if they congrats well, and then they don't have to pay those girls. So you know, paying $10 to be a big deal because you don't have a whole lot of players pay, either they need to build a core around through the draft..

"He has to get better when the play goes wrong initially, he right now becomes too much of a wild card to use your term. When the play does not start out the way that he's expecting and. Experience, I think will solve some of that interactions with Jase, more will help and the one thing about about says he's he's been doing zoom meetings for years. That's his preferred method of communication. So I'm sure this offseason hasn't felt as different darnold as it has the some guys I imagine those guys have been on the Internet quite a bit together I. Think they're excited to work with each other because I think darnold realizes how much better he can be when not making the boneheaded place. You see the talent right there. It's just there's too many. Bone plays right now to make a good evaluation of the guy though. Defensively. We talked before the Jamal Adams traded happened when he was on the market, you know what is he worth what it form where he worked to the jets and you you've kind of you said over over the past couple of months, it's not a crucial position for the jets. You don't need a big time safety and Greg Williams defense here. So I mean look the fact that they ended up getting two first round picks for him and A. A little bit more ended up being quite the hall for the jets there will. Obviously, we'll. We'll talk about Adams impact in Seattle on our NFC west show coming up sometime between now and the season. But the pieces they have in the secondary. Now they added peer to peer and they got Bradley macdougald in that. Jamal Adams. Trade. It does this fit together. Properly, I mean disappears of very specific kind of cornerback in and macdougald. You know, he's, he's a he's up starting caliber safety of a obviously not of Jamal Adams ability. But does it kind of does it add up to something that makes sense here? mcnew? Gould is absolutely equality starting safety in the NFL. There's no question about that peer-to-peer. Long Armstrong physical when it's going well, he he looks like a shutdown corner at times. When it's going poorly think how can I? You know he's just not quicker twitchy enough, and how can how can it be on the field? That's what you have. I think they feel because he pleased much cover to cover to. You're GONNA jam the receiver at the snap. They feel that that long physicality at corners really going to serve two sear. Well, now, the colts play a lot of cover to as well, and that's the team that just got rid of this year because the Sierra. So inconsistent in the second half of last season. So a wildcard is we gotta get a new term there. You got me on that wild card phrase, but he's he's a, he's a joker. A joker card, it can be anything. You don't know what he's GonNa now. he needs to get. Out of the deck and take out of the deck. Yeah. I thought that always made the Games boring as. We were is about adding jokers when you're eight, which is the last time I played cards regularly. A lot rides on him. Though because they are not very deep, it corner, they know that they're willing to live with that. I see here the other guy, they got Quincy Wilson from. Indianapolis. Who's liked, Assira just. Even, even more negative values. Hang Wilson's a second round pick. Wasn't he? He was pretty, yeah. These forty, six, overall, nope, forty, forty, six, overall, twenty, seventeen. Long Guy also matched up the tight ends at time. So they have these big physical defensive backs tells you counting on sticking with that cover to stuff, which is why I'm sure they're comfortable trading atoms. They got a good return on him. I. Didn't think that trade was as lopsided people made it out to be by the way. I don't think it's I. Mean. It's not lopsided. At all I thought it was great. Yeah. Book both teams got what they were after I was surprised. They got that price for him. The number one, I'm surprised. We did see another trade where someone a non quarterback went for two one, a non quarterback and like non Aaron Donald went for two first round picks. But I mean look at Jamal. Adams. Just. Lit the entire jets headquarters on fire. You figure that would have. Hurt his trade value, and instead they kind of got what I. Always a maximum return for. Look at some of these teams that are making the traits with these multiple first rounders, rams did it. For Jalen, Ramsey, the ranch view themselves, perennial contenders, I'm sure. the Texans did it for Tonsil and as much as we like to announce weeks? I have not been part of this at all much as people like to mock bill. O'Brien is general manager and all that the Texans have been in the AFC south and have a lot under Obama. They almost printable playoff team under bill. O'Brien, even really only had shawn. Shawn Watson available to them for one or two late season runs now. So they I'm sure they view themselves as contenders. It's when you're trading what you believe to be a late first round pick, which Seattle believes I'm sure that they're not gonNA. Pick any higher than twenty five this year. You know they could, but they don't believe that about themselves in. Trading the number twenty-five pick in your mind or whatever. It is to go up and get a guy who was drafted. Six overall improbably would be drafted that right now, we're ever redraft the league and bring all those guys from twenty eighteen or seventeen back into the NFL. They would've had to trade up to get Adams on draft day. So you're basically trading up to get Jamal Adams and what's different here is you're paying the premium because you have to give them a second contract, but you also have a sure thing. There's no. No guesswork. In this trade, you know Jamal Lambs Star in the NFL. He's not going to be a away a third of the first rounders at least become. So it's just a matter of philosophy at this point. It's not like he wins getting fleeced. That's that's not happening here. John Schneider just believes that we're GONNA. We're happy to pay a premium for a player that we think can probably have a domino effect for us that we would have had to trade up to get a guy of his draft caliber anyway like that. Save it for the NFC West Preview Andy. Yeah. You're right. Because that was more of a seahawk science side of it, but the jets I understand why they did it because Jamal Adams B.. K. became locker room cancer towards the end it. It looked like it worked out for me got out of town. But I I see where they did it as well..

"We spend a lot of time running this I mean I mean I mean I brought it up today say look you know once will take a couple days and then we're off to two thousand twenty one draft that's what we're going to be working on so we spend all this time running the board out and we don't force it we don't know where we say Hey their values are R. G. and at that point Jacob Jacob was on the board and and was at the right value were we had employees that's why we took it that's Chris Ballard explaining that fourth round pick Jacob Eason quarterback from Washington still need explanation on that second round pick Jonathan Taylor running back from Wisconsin it's not that he's not great it's that we were looking for running backs Tony Katz ninety three W. I. B. C. good morning Kevin bell and joins us from ninety three five one eight seven five the fan he's got the ten calls take aways from the twenty twenty NFL draft let's start with those first two picks in the second round hit man Michael Pittman wide receiver from USC and Jonathan Taylor the running back from Wisconsin wide receivers we knew we knew there was a desire for those those are gonna be some of the topics how amazed or how may is for you that Jonathan Taylor was taken in the second round by the colts or were you like yep that's just perfect Chris Ballard all right well I would be on a different perspective Ryan Gregson attacking footballers doom or whatever it was I mean they will they love Jonathan Taylor and their office needs G. old will need more people to play makers but bad for marlin back when he's done everything you could ask for for a fourth round pick and it's probably just another reminder of parents don't have your kids play running back because in today's NFL running backs don't will get second contracts very often and Marlon Mack is entering a contract year and and clearly they look at Jonathan Taylor is the new kind of number one running back for this team because very explosive player if he campaigns will will know him full while on fifty fifth and production over the last three years or what content honestly it ranks right up there with any of the running back in college football history felt it is an upgrade it wasn't a need by any means but it does give this offense another sport to play maker which was needed so we're not going to see a trade firm for Marlon Mack we're not to see him go anywhere he's still going to be the the the featured back this season you think our readers but I I would not expect a trade I think it's gonna be a one two punch I think you could be something where you're almost rotating these guys you know person second down Jonathan Taylor one person second I'm Marlon Mack on the next theory and you need a stable of running backs to agree I mean Marlon Mack got banged up last year for a couple of games that night hi it can be a cost catcher out of the running back group but the key position for Philip rivers in its past history I think they'll still be involved as well it's looking forward Marlon Mack in a contract year I think this move indicates he's not read by next March well with Jonathan Taylor added with Marlon Mack so having you talk about name Heinz you talk about the pick of the Roosevelt Nix's fall back please bring back the wishbone I would love to pull off yet although I don't think Philip rivers most read a foot human being at the center of the the old mantra of the run the you know what the ball on that have been taken to the nth degree by the cold can you take in a little bit but the call for a really really good run came last year they were not in the least running game that was kind of feed we thought that if he didn't play out when the cold space pop can run defense last year they did not produce an adequate enough level this is another step in trying to be very committed to running the football and you know Donald Taylor if you look at his numbers and his big play ability with so many times they with hitting those fifty sixty yard run and I think it again that part of your offense especially the play action game where you can make can be like oh gosh not only that Marlon Mack now you've got to worry about Jonathan Taylor that could open up on the play action after talking to Kevin Bowen from ninety three five one seven five the fan on the Dr Huber dot com hotline so Michael Pittman in the second round receiver from USC then Jonathan Taylor we go back at the defense with Julian Blackmon in the third round of from Utah safety as we've already twin traded away Quincy and then the fourth round comes and Jacob Eason is sitting there from Washington and the call to the side yep we're doing it again perfect Chris Ballard or whole league crap what's going on no I don't think of that holy crap because it was in the fourth round but it was notable I mean responded pretty adamant they were gonna take quarterback in the first three rounds and we're not going to lay up for Jordan long wait around one which I think a lot of people thought it impossible but I am perfectly content with this graphic Frank Wright is known for his quarterback development career commander like a few years ago Philip rivers had a career season under Frank right now Carson Wentz had an MVP caliber campaign under Frank right vastly different skill sets of the three quarterbacks but they reached a pretty high level under Frank right hello take a shot you don't have a long term quarterback that is in place by any means even has some intriguing traits there is definitely a development that is needed but for a fourth round pick at number one twenty two why not take a flyer on a guy that some people thought including him would go much much earlier there are questions a little bit leadership character work ethic you would hope they'd be in a professional environment maybe a bit humbled you're learning under Philip rivers will help that certainly confirm what what questions as well the good news is you don't need them at all I actually thought you can be reset to still be the back up here and then carry three quarterbacks you don't need to be there but it's hard to develop a little bit the Philip rivers sat for two years Eric Rogers after three years even the great cash from home for a year eight about Frank right getting his hands on a little bit of clay the lady vols yeah we're not gonna carry four quarterbacks into the season aria no you okay give me Chad Kelly will be gone or maybe he's going to practice squad but I mean they carried three late last season and Philip rivers article beeper static J. could be that would be that the rate fell it is a bit of a numbers crunch trust me in a perfect world I would have probably moved on from the Kobe percent and try to get some drastic that's the route that I would have gone that's not how the cold operate they are obsessed with you go the person that we all should be loved as much as they love Jacoby at least the nothing keep him on their roster not necessarily defend either starting quarterback I would have done that but they're not going to go down that road J. could be then baited abundantly clear with competing for the third quarter backstop talking to Kevin Bowen one of three five one eight seven five ninety three five the fan the trade of of Quincy Wilson going to the Jackson was a second round pick a few years ago and now traded for a six round pick I believe a six round pick you're happy to see him go well yeah I mean I I thought when he was in love with the same guy that got a contact in the scheme but it was never great form here it was literally it was a matter of waiting with the straight and a half and not yeah the writings on the wall he was a healthy scratch for a lot of Lafayette and had been you know again dating back to previous coaching stops the truck but found out that my keynote coordinator staff in twenty seventeen and you know the the the the did you get with Chris Ballard has rebounded from that twenty five he dropped out with a horrible start to a ten year with Quincy Wilson B. in a box throw basking in the third round black banner in the fourth round none of those guys yeah the final year of the rookie contract Emily cooker your first round pick there's still some questions on just where he that long term but again he rebounded with Marlon Mack Matthew Walker later in that draft I had an absolute home run in twenty eighteen and twenty nineteen to twenty twenty at home in three days so yeah Quincy not shocked by that at all I guess the fact that you got a fifth round pick this late in the process might involve you know better than nothing so when you take a look at this team now you take a look at what they look like for this season and it certainly looks like there's going to be a season not even a shortened season although it's possible I it looks like it's going to be a full on season you look at the AFC south where the colts I think they're legit contender I'm not gonna lie every time I looked up at the lake and he would make a good graphic as well well I I I still think kind of he will be out there I put Tennessee in Indianapolis add you know put a one here competing for the division title Houston flood the best quarterback in the nation for you can't put them too far off and they have won the division four out of the last five years sometimes we we we act like bill o'brien at the laughing stock and J. lo and behold detecting theme we won the division every year I think that's how the pecking order looks like in their feet your campus and he got him in Baltimore still I don't want the whole lot and they were the two top seed in the conference last year I think they will still be in the mix but without a doubt the cult of gotten better much more entertaining product which needed to happen as well a girl born that often look late last season but I think the cold can I can win a three thousand this year that's given by one ninety three five one seven five the family sometimes the fan dot com check out his work of their cabin by one of the drives people dot com hotline map there was traffic all the files with the Matthews did throw them on the side right now where we have the I. seventy closures from four sixty five to the north well you can check out the.

"Hi own football these back is rich Ackerman and we welcome you back couple minutes away from the countdown to kickoff of week sixteen twenty one minutes away from the Sunday portion after three great games yesterday which will take a look back in a couple of moments but won't take a look ahead to what's coming up in our next stop is Lucas oil stadium where the colts and Panthers lock horns of here's Andrew Smith and good afternoon good afternoon how are you I'm doing just great and you know these are two struggling teams it hasn't gone is expected are after the nice start for the colts the Panthers meanwhile they're scared continues with Perry fuel now running the show yeah the cold started five into the Panthers five and three and just a couple of weeks ago look like these two teams were in the playoff mix and since then both of struggle the fallen out of the playoff race Indies lost four straight six of its last seven double the six and eight on the year Caroline is lost six straight and the Panthers now five nine and other headed toward an offseason the promises significant changes one of which you mention very fuel now the arm head coach for the European there's and a big change today for Caroline as well as the Perry fuel earlier in the week announced that will career will get his first start at quarterback the rookie from Charlotte will see his first game action since the pre season when he completed fifty five point seven percent of his passes over the colts defense the struggle a little bit so it's an opportunity for it the New York Panthers quarterback will Greer's Indies about three hundred ninety yards last two weeks last three weeks opposing quarterbacks have completed eighty one point seven percent of their passes against the colts defense and the colts will be missing two cornerbacks today Quincy Wilson and Kenny Moore and one nice thing for a will Greer is that when you get Christian McCaffrey behind you it's going to take a lot of pressure off of you as well as being on the road I think takes a little bit of pressure off as well being the hometown guy in McCaffrey right now the least third leading rusher with thirteen hundred and seven yards is also fourth in the league in receptions he's closing on a potential one thousand one thousand season and another thing for Carolina veteran tight end Greg Olsen returns after missing last couple of games well Carolina is playing a new quarterback today Indy will go back with your Kobe percent he was eighteen of thirty four last week four hundred sixty five yards but he's been dealing with the decimated receiving corps Q. why Hilton yes back in the lineup for the second straight week but yet just forget his last week for twenty five yards another thing to keep an eye out for India's Marlon Mack you need just eighty one yards to become the first one thousand yard rusher up for the colts since Frank gore in two thousand sixteen and just a second in the last twelve seasons but since coming back from a hand injury two weeks ago mac as just a few seven yards in the two games but the Carolina defense thirty up against the run they've allowed a league high twenty six rushing touchdowns so there may be an opportunity there for Marlon Mack another thing I'll be watching is the pass rush the goals of thirty three sacks Carol one of the best pass rushing lead with forty nine but the Panthers the Senate decimated offense of line this year leave a lot fifty one sack so could be an exciting one is two teams looking ahead to next year and said during out where they are and as the set the table for the two thousand twenty seasons and look to finish two thousand nineteen on a high note you know that if you call me percent was really handed a tough hand earlier in the season when Andrew lock abruptly retired and they were very high on any under cobra said now obviously injuries have played a big part Marlon Mack is missed significant time T. Y. Hilton to miss significant time and and it seems like every other receiver is has also said the same are they still as high on percent as they once were or do they may look may look to see what what's out there in the quarterback market either as a free agent or in the draft publicly zero very high on per set I think behind the scenes Chris Ballard going to look under every rock he key and to try to make his football team better and if that means bringing in a free agent in the offseason if that means a looking at a quarterback in the draft and may be having an eye toward the future that's going to be something they do he's got one year left on his contract they gave him a two year extension right after Andrew luck retired and I think the injuries are key number one the injuries to the receivers but number two the injury to press that he was playing very well until he injured his MCL against the Steelers back in a week eight and he really hasn't been the same quarterback since and that really is where the colts slide BGM was that they had a lead in Pittsburgh we're going into score again matter fact rain we were came in finish that drive with a touchdown pass but they eventually lost that game lost the next week in my against Miami with Ryan we're starting and since then they just really not been able to get on track to end up in part of that I think is the fact that you're dealing with a really decimated receiving corps but also a quarterback coming back from a knee injury how much has that hampered him and limited his his play here in the last few weeks enter thanks for checking in we'll touch base shortly thank you all right hander Smith in Indianapolis at Lucas oil stadium where appear struggling teams and enter said it best the colts were five into the Panthers were five and three the culture now six and eight the Panthers five nine with six consecutive losses will Greer starts they the colts secondary has been torched the last couple of games on another note as Andrew it touched on in just a couple moments ago Christian McCaffrey closing in on a thousand yards receiving you need just eighty one he would become the third player to have a thousand yards rushing and receiving in the same season so it's a big milestone for him he was also six receptions and he is the first NFL running back with multiple one hundred reception sees so a lot online today for Christian McCaffrey on a personal level as his team continues to struggle on trying to snap a six game slide let's set the Mike bank you saw at MetLife stadium where the Steelers take on the jets today my good afternoon and good afternoon no rate happy holidays and of course as soon as we start the P. A. starts blasting in the background announcing the inactive but anyway hope all is well and we'll just sit on a couple notes just start this off deal is obviously eight and six gets five and nine in the steel is can I get that last wild card spot in the a FC if they're able to will win out and that includes the game next week against Baltimore on the road a couple the keys today on this list of story lines levy on dell going against the Steelers for the first time in you know you get to not really utilizing as much as you would have thought they have not had a one hundred yard rusher all season and the Steelers defense has not allowed a running back to go four hundred yards so maybe the jets can do something in that regard today James Connor back again he did play last week is the steel is try to get their running game going and you know they want to do that considering how was a dock Hodges had four interceptions last week and they want to try to run the ball and take the wall out of Hodges's hands much as possible especially with Greg Williams and the judge defense for being very aggressive they have your mom lives backs you know he's going to yeah we're just gonna have a lot of different looks and try to confuse Hodges see you know the steals wanna try to run the ball they do have the use misuse the back in after missing some time within the injury so well lots of little things side story but couple of things that are positive for the fans at least very nice day which is you know in the tri state area temperatures in mid forties bright sunshine and lots of Steelers fans your MetLife stadium I think it's going to be about a fifty fifty mix between Steelers inject fans plenty of black and gold throughout the stadium here so as we look forward to a pretty fun game you know the jets going to have to do something to protect Sam Donald the Steelers lead to legal sacks and the jets are rolling out their ten different office of line combinations of these and they've used now ten different starters so you know if they can protect our old maybe you can make some plays we'll see what happens should be a fun game absolutely Mike looking forward to hearing from you throughout the day is a levy on bell goes against his former team which is fighting for the playoffs the jets trying to play spoiler to an extent and we will touch base up to kick off okay talk later all right thank you very much Mike make use of the Jack Armbruster Miami where the dolphins taking on the one win the bangles Jack good afternoon good afternoon it says you know you would think that the more people who have we're lucky we're lucky if you're five thousand people in New York and stadium right out about five thousand wow obviously this these are two teams that are planned for next year the dolphins who looked to be taken for two up but I think other plans of change just a little you know they they have a right because I think it's you know most most people you talk to they had the dolphins you know as as the worst set the maybe that's it you know falling down to five right now there are there are three four than.

"Me on the Saint Vincent sports performance on. All right. Matt rock. Yes in I'm digging the name. Alright can see you already having fun with this guy. Four thirty four BIC cornerback out of temple. I love your story. I mean, he starts doesn't start playing football until what eighth grade something like that. You know, he's, you know, and he's not heavily recruited in now look at and this guy's got some absolute lockdown skill. Yeah. I think if you ask the call this might come out later, this is the the highest they were on a cornerback. It is draft. And they get their guy. You talk about the ascension that he's made coming out. I really just in sports in general didn't didn't start playing sports until he was in eighth grade started out as a wrestler. So you know, he likes contact. He's not afraid to pick it after people is a two time state champion as a wrestler in this guy. Started out as an SDS player at. Presbyterian college, and it was a grad transfer last year in two thousand eighteen to temple not a football hotbed. But it's interesting. The last couple of years the colts take two corners twenty seventeen and eight Hairston an issue with rocky sin out of temple. But I think this is a guy that is in the mix from day one to play on the outside and kind of contended and push Quincy Wilson for a starting job. I think we all have a pretty good grasp that PR sear is going to be one starter at corner. I think rock your send comes in right away and pushed to be a starter on the other side. I think you're right. I'm ethic I like him. And again, I know you're going to be having some fun on Sundays with that name. You know, you are they got rocked by rocky thin. It's you know, off the didn't take any time at all on. I'm liking it. Now, the problem I have with the number forty nine pick is I can't pronounce the guy's name. Okay. So I'm going with Ben vinegar until I hear, okay? Yeah. This is this is a very hybrid in versatile player at TCU. And when you look at the mocks, and you get ready for the draft, and you study, and you know, you kind of memorize players this. This is a guy that to be honest with you. I didn't see a lot. But I we were doing the show tonight with Rick Venturi, former NFL coach he loves this Vic, and he wants a lot of film on this guy. He loves this election for the colts in the second round. He's a player that I think linebacker. He can play up front in the three technique. You can also kick him outside at defensive end in the colts. Love guys up front. That are quick that can blitz gaps that can cause disruption of they did that a lot last year by kicking guys down that it played defensive end like markets on I'm one Lewis. You saw that with Denise, Autry, I think this is another guy that can do it and playing waves and and provide the cult some deception of. Front in terms of what they're gonna do at different times. Especially on third down man Taylor with this on the Saint Vincent sports performance hotline. All right. So that's that's good now tomorrow, and we have with five picks and lot going on tomorrow. This is kind of interesting on this Saturday where things go so quickly you talking about needing to have your information ready and locked in and solid and be ready to pull the trigger on people because you don't have a whole lot of time. And there are still obviously areas of concern or areas where the colts have interest in in picking players, but she's still don't really know. What's going to happen until things in front of you take place? Yeah. I still think a ton of depth left in this draft across the board. I mean tonight yet corner you address kind of at seven. All right, then you address wide receiver. I still think the colts could probably stand to bring in another safety because Maliki cooker has shown Thursday and all the field. Same thing with Clayton gathers. Plus he's only in on a one year deal as a free agent so his future past this upcoming season is a little bit murky. Same thing Matthias Farley tender guy. So he's going to be a free agent next year. So I I still think safety is a position that you can address. Maybe they do it that that here in the third round. I'm not in front of a TV. I'm not certain how the picture going right now at speak with the culture sitting at eighty nine. Maybe safeties a spot they address and then I think after that rounds five through seven four through seven tomorrow. I think that's strictly best player available. Bring us guys in push iron sharpening iron, and it just built depth and competition rest of this spring and going into training camp. The other thing that we forget to you still have once camp stores. There's so many moves Maine and the situation, but but in terms of what you do. And it does seem to be philosophically the direction at Chris Ballard is headed is that you you built through the draft develop players, you you are judicious with what you do in free agency. And this is a perfect perfect example of watching this philosophy play out in real time. It I don't know how he does it. I don't know where its patients comes from. I mean, there's so many good players, and you know, the death is pretty comparable. And I think it just depends on the flavor of the month. And then how these teams of value these players, and they think they're going to fit in the respective systems. But if I was pulling the trigger I would've traded up to ten and giving up four graphics. Defense event positions. But I mean, that's that's why Chris Ballard is Chris Ballard. He is. He's not out of the park the last couple of drafts. There's no indication that this isn't going to be another replica rep as the reps go bat. But yes, he is so patient that he understands this is not the only time you've got undrafted free agency coming up on Sunday. It's still have for hey jealousy. Ongoing to look at other guys veteran players, you know, in June and July if it after cut downs there's twelve hundred players they're looking for jobs after the free season the can go after those guys to supplement the roster. Well, well, I think the other part of it too. Is that? People need to I think temper their expectations is the best way to to look at it. The draft in in in major league baseball in the NBA in the NFL is an imprecise art. It's everyone is a gamble. There. Are no guarantees number one way know, you could come out I play blow out a knee, and alter what's going on everybody understands it. However, if you have a philosophy as he does if you have the faith in the philosophy in a lot of people have everybody's got a philosophy. But when they when things don't go, right? And that first day or first week or whatever it news, stay with it. A lot of people abandoned it and try to create created the guys win and win over time are the ones who have a solid philosophy and stay the course when things are bad. And that's exactly how Chris Ballard looks at it. No, that's precisely what the culture doing. They have a motto they have a final and what it is is they're going to draft. Well. They're gonna try and get as many graphics as possible trading back. We'll do that. And they're going to draft well developed these guys re-sign their own guys and build the core of their team from within. That's why I think some fans don't really understand the whole cap space situated, and why they're not going out and spending more money than they have been. It's because they're trying to save as much money as possible. I think this is part of it. But you're going to need that money to resign guys that are big time players on the team that you're gonna want to win but going forward like Anthony Costanzo potentially in perhaps t y Hilton Andrew luck you might want to get him done before his contract is up based on the amount of money that that keeps going to quarterbacks in the off season. So the cap space is one thing, but he is just so patient, and you so dedicated to his plan, and he's honest with the media everybody kind of understands it he sticks to it doesn't deviate from. The process very often. And yeah, I just think this is a team that I mean twenty one of twenty two starters coming back from last year, it's cheap talent. And by chief talent, I mean guys that are on the rookie deals. You have Andrew lot. That's still on a sensible contract in compared to you know, what some of these quarterbacks are getting right now, I think the time is right now for the colts to get it done and judging by the league they took last year going from foreign twelve to a AFC divisional playoff game. I I don't think there's any reason to think that these core players can't take four steps forward and the colts can't get further than they did last year the playoffs the voice of the Indianapolis Colts. Matt Taylor on the Saint Vincent sports performance hotline. Matt thank you so much your time getting there and hang out with the marketing department. All right. I appreciate you. Thanks. I appreciate it. Matt Taylor colts. They are looking at five picks for tomorrow and coming up, Mr. rob it will let you know what's going on with their picking the third round. "He was coming off of injury. But he signed a hundred and twenty two million dollar deal in two thousand sixteen in two thousand seventeen when was injured the team went four and twelve and now Angela has a twenty four point four million dollar cap hit in two thousand eighteen that was his cap numbers. So that was kind of the place at the colts were working with and yet through that they had four tier one players. They had Andrew luck t y Hilton this year, they drafted Quinton Nelson and Darius Leonard so it's a mix of players that they had drafted previously and retained and developed and then new players that they added that that just absolutely nailed the draft. But the thing that I thought was interesting about the Colt was that they also had strengthened the secondary. They had to tier two players. So those are going to be your kind of core foundational players and to tier three players in the secondary. They had safety Mike Mitchell. He's a ten year vet not under contract for twenty nineteen definitely in that. Tear me cooker first round draft pick and twenty seventeen at corner, they've got peer to peer he was a one year value free agent that they signed because he had a peck injury. And so he returned but played at similarly high level and you've got Quincy Wilson second round draft pick in two thousand seventeen so their secondary was one of their strengths. They had great defense at stretches throughout the year. And they did. So with a mix of rookies players. They've developed transition that transitional tier and they've got a core player in there as well in Mali cooker. And I think that overall you've got a blend of different tiers that created a strong unit at one of the more important positions that you need on defense. Right. That's kind of the next step. Right. So once you the quarterback situation determines and a lot of ways the number of resources that you have available to spend right in in terms of free agency dollars, of course. But then from there what you choose to do with those resources as kind of a next probably more important part, really? And where you're devoting though. Draft picks where you devoting that free agent spending too. And so yeah, I think you look at teams like the colts who have been able to get players in the secondary there. They drafted they have a couple players kind of in the tier three tier four range that are looking at pass rushers. So I think you have guys that they're going after key spots for those. And I think that's the important thing. Right. Even though I think you could argue that like Nelson may be doesn't quite fit that I'm not like necessarily totally in love with all their moves. But the point is that they're kind of they're still going after that was a look at more. The offense of line is a whole protecting. Andrew luck giving him clean pockets to help passing efficiency. Right. So these are all things that they've done. Well, that was contributed to them coming out and having a stronger than I think a lot of people expected, and you think about their production, which is probably one of their weaker components this year, but they had a tier four player developmental player. They drafted in two thousand eighteen and write Ray. And then they have Jamal sheared which similarly to what the Niners last year is a traditional player. He is a veteran that they signed. And he performed exactly what you want to three player to do..

2018 NFL training camp preseason players to watch

"A few more days of practice Head of them still and the latest is Anthony Costanzo and the way that coach. Reich kinda describes the injury to Costanzo is Oh it he had it and he's got it back and he's gonna There's. Gonna be some rest right he's gonna. Need a little bit of time. It's as vague as. Anything, out. There I'm wondering about Costanza 's future tell me I'm wrong Yeah Tony I I don't know about in terms of long term but I think. It's something to monitor the, rest? Of the that it'd be the first injured. Hamstring about two weeks before training camp. Started and then re tweaked it. During Friday night practice It's. Been really really durable NFL career he's only miss three games, maybe since his rookie season it's eleven and he looked, at positions on the colts. Roster and talk about depth I think left tackle might be, the most bear and unproven position on the roster so Dongo's bend your left tackle for the last seven years and he's going to miss a little bit of. Time, and, that, is very vague and maybe he doesn't play the, rest of the pre season but you would think just a tweaking of a hamstring he would be able to go by the regular season opens up here in a little over a month So you don't see it as a serious thing when you take a, look at the injuries that he had last year No, he was hoping last year two years ago think or maybe even the year before that when he was heard so I I don't. Think it's anything to fret over long term why. This is a guy that has been extremely extremely durable in bell career That guy wanting the, blind side of you know Through that awful twenty eleven so you end up through Angeles early. Years in these past couple of years as well I don't think it's anything that. It's a reoccurring injury that happened for several years maybe came back a little bit too soon, from that hamstring injury and and he openly. Admitted he kinda. Over trained in the off season so rest stuff you don't. Need a Santa Costanza in the month of August you need to see some of these other guys play left tackle in case this does become a lingering issue talking to. Kevin Bowen from ten seventy the fan dot com that's where you go to get all of. His latest on what's going on a training camp one of the things I noted is that when it comes to running back where, a little bit, of everywhere and nowhere on here we've, got MAC I think people are happy with him. But you, need a, little bit of that day Angela shoulder maybe better, but he still needs to hand off the ball who is he handing off to and, what are we seeing a lot of young guys Tony with Robert Turbin suspended for the first, four games James Andrew lock arguably I think the top three running back to the roster none, of them have, played with lock when you talk about, Marlin MAC going into the second season the mid. Rookies and, I am, highs and Jordan Wilkins as well and Jim Irsay, had quite hyperbole on Friday night saying that he thinks Marlee Matlin rush for fifteen hundred, yards this season I don't know if anyone in for Is He has his, bell Donald Trump of, sports just don't let them tweet Did he tweet which one was it he said it yeah. Said that we have three hundred and fifty yards rushing all last year so that's that's quite the jump for the second year back and especially. On the colts have said they want to be running back by committee so I think there are some young pieces to work with with MAC and what Jordan Wilkins the fifth round pick, out of night's camp, and I kind of bored More of a hybrid player probably help you out on special teams maybe a wide out as well so that's really really. Unproven and when roster cuts happen and the end of August you know you might be a decision that you look for more of a, more of a veteran objects I. Do think there, is something. To work with their but if the group they just, hasn't proved, themselves on the NFL level quite yet as you see it so far as in training camp Who is the player that we should be looking at and who's the player who you think is causing the most concern But I. Think a player that's really, surprises then the Niko Autry new defensive lineman signed from Oakland this past season. Back in March, I think one of the I think it was the first free, agent signing, McColl patio in, twenty eighteen and you know when you're talking about quit Nelson and how dominant the rookies ban, you know in full pads the guy that have occasionally been Autry and. The colts need some help with this new four three Friday and, Autry I think could be kind of a nice surprise I. Think that a guy that you feel, good about concern standpoint I'd probably go back into the secondary and go Quincy Wilson the second round pick some last year Who figure to be. Maybe the number one cornerback a corner in. General I think as a physician group that hasn't had a lot of play making here. In the first couple of, weeks at grand park and they're rotating a lot of bodies there doesn't look. Like many documents, in terms of starters and that group so they need Quincy Wilson, to a, merge because you, spent a second round pick on them you know we know full well how valuable corners are, today that I Sal and the colts just don't have a lot to. Work with with that you know kind of really a it's of, your top four corners I would say three of them are..
