Over the weekend thousands of Kaiser Permanente workers saw union expire contracts and with no agreement the workers including some in this region plan walk off the job on Wednesday. In the district and Virginia 400 optometrists and pharmacists are poised to strike. This comes as Kaiser Permanente and a coalition of unions continue to fight over a new deal that includes across -the -board pay raises, better retirement benefits and protection against outsourcing and subcontracting. The union claims the healthcare provider is negotiating in bad faith. Kaiser Permanente says it is not and negotiations are seeing progress on key issues. The healthcare provider also says it expects minimal disruption in the DC area if the strike happens. Mike Murillo, WTOP News. The 48th Marine Corps Marathon is just a bit more than a month away and WTOP is highlighting folks who are going to take on the 26 mile stretch around the nation's capital. One man is going the distance without his sight or hearing. Aaron Hale was a Navy explosive ordnance tech. In 2011, he was injured when an IED detonated, leaving him completely blind. I guess I started running in general just out of sheer terror of being stuck on the couch for the rest of my life. And run he has, completing around a dozen marathons. "The Library of Congress has selected another 25 recordings of cultural or historical significance to be added to the national recording registry. I'm Archie's are a letter with the latest. For the first time, a video game soundtrack makes the national recording registry. It's the Super Mario Brothers theme by Koji Kondo, the list also includes the very first mariachi recordings from 1908. The civil rights group says there should be no question African American studies is a worthy topic from an administration that said it wants to teach all of American history. The college board which developed the course says it's drawn from the expertise of college faculty across the country. The Virginia chapter of the NAACP says school curriculums should include and value the history and culture of black people. Particularly on WTO P news. I'm gonna start with Queen Latifah because she was more than like a musical influence. Obviously because she really her rap rain kind of had transitioned into TV and just being a household name when I was a kid when I was a baby too. So it was more of her existing that had an effect on me and how multifaceted and how everything she is and also it was the only celebrity that people would say I looked like. You know, I will say I'm looking when I came in today. This People magazine cover of yours. I don't know, I honestly thought for a second. I thought it was so, I mean, what a powerful ode to representation, having a celebrity was like, you look like Quinn let's see if I'm like, wow, I look like somebody. And then more nothing and spend time with family and then do nothing. I just want to make sure I do what's right for the kid. He's got a daughter to support. You got a daughter to support. The chemistry was already there to make this happen because I love her. He loves me. We're crazy about each other. That's my man and I fight for my man. You produce this with the king of the court, but you're the king of the screen. I'm just glad I'm Friends with LeBron now. "I thought when this this little interview started circulating i thought it was interesting. And but it's like it's just for me and i'm going to be very candidate and this may not be. This might not be the popular opinion. So please any point interject and i just for me personally as like a gay black man I just as how do i wanna say this is just at times. It is challenging for me with. Because i want to choose my words rightly because i don't wanna disrespect anybody but i also want to be authentic to like how i just. I just sometimes as me as a gay black man. I often not that. Like i have resentment to like a to like a a lesbian but often times. I feel like we're lumped together. And i feel like our struggles are different and you know and that's just best and again i'm not i love everybody but like in you know. Sometimes i feel like i don't know like and just like so. Let me give you context like you know for me. One of my biggest disappointments is like or not big as appointments or one of the things that i wish that people like for me again. 'cause i i want to be careful because i don't wanna offending the one and i don't want anyone to misconstrue what i'm saying. I'm just speaking from a very vulnerable and honest place as as a gay man and for me like i don't. There is no choice like you know. I can't like not pretend that i'm not gala. I'm just myself and so sometimes you know i've said this before like you know like people like queen latifah and again everyone's wrote is different and you know to each his own but the one disappointing thing for me with queen latifah. Is that like why. Have you not come out and like represented for your community like like pave the way and like you know and over the years. She has made a lot of strides. She's talked about her partner. I'm a interviews. And so you know i guess with this raven. Simone kinda struggled core with i ready. I didn't think anything of it. I was like oh. Wow that's interesting. And i can understand like you know i wanna keep the continuity of rave raven baxter as raven baxter however you're part of the lgbtq plus community. You're a huge celebrity and given the opportunity for you to change lives given the opportunity for you to like and you declined. The is that. Like i don't know the and i get it because everyone's road journey is different and i get it. She was at a place where she was not comfortable in. Like you know that. That was me twenty years ago but i just feel like an especially in the black community. We don't have positive imagery we don't see a lot of you know people like who is multifaceted. Who's a celebrity an icon in my opinion. Like you know. And i feel like you dropped the ball here and yet so i'm i'm curious to hear your thoughts on what i just said right now because i'm like i. I feel very uncomfortable. I understand where you're coming from. I for me. I think i tend to believe her when she said that it has nothing to do with. My identity is not that. I'm ashamed of who i am. It's because she did come out before even someone's even if it's not that she's ashamed. It's just that why does why does the character gay. Because i'm gay. I mean i think it's i think it's fine for me to be a lesbian woman portray someone who has straight on. I think i think. I mean it's something from me. I mean maybe. Because i have done a lot of axing my life one of the things that i've always had a gripe with was sound because the way that i maybe i move is a little harder for me to pass straight so i just know for a fact that there are so many roles because people are just going to be like how is our is he really supposed to make us think that he's straight for raven maybe the swisher. We're talking a little before we start talking about how for some lesbians. It's sort of easier for them to go back and forth. And i totally get that. That is something that i wish that i could travel back and forth between from time to time. I'm still struggling with. I mean look i. I came out to my mom during his podcast. Guys a very new experience for me trying to be open and honest with everybody in my life is there are still pockets of my life where i'm sort of in the closet so i i don't ever really believe in rushing ways process and another. That's not what you're saying. But i i just i don't know i i understand. And maybe maybe raven making raven. Baxter the character continue to be straight. Maybe there is a little bit of like. I don't wanna have to. I'm already persecuted for being gay in a sense. I don't want to carry that over into my into my character. But i feel like that character is so beloved and i don't think that there really is anything. I don't think that you really need to change it if she if she if she were to.

I couldn't get a gig and so you know my mom. God bless her man she she was tired and she decided that you know sitting down wasn't for her and she opened up a daycare in the projects where we live and by two thousand and one she was she was blossoming Some seventy one woman education like like like really doing it and so what. Brady should he really should be in retirement, even though who knows when he's gonna retire? They both moved down to Florida, where people are supposed to go for retirement. They got Antonio Brown kind of comes out of retirement. My kids reminded me like, hey, wasn't really retired. But I'm going to say it was your guard and then all the commercials If you think about all these throwbacks Wayne's world last night. They came out of retirement, all the old bud light people for all the old commercials. They came out of retirement. Do another commercial, and I think it's just it's an interesting analog to Those who are in kind of in the work force, and they're in and out. For generations, and we don't you know that that you know that it's only coming to the forefront right now. Can you speculate or just give me some insight as a veteran of this industry as to why I still like what the Canadian industry was missing or what was missing systemically. Will definitely demographics. In terms of, you know, we've got a lot of land a lot of people radio stations in order that will play the music. They say there's no demographics in terms of pushing the artist. But when you know, destiny, child and sharp all they broke here, so when you have to find the demographics and arm being ready, don't tell me that they're not here because when the American artists found where we find those demographics, we find the money to put him on radio. We find the money, and I just think in Canada when interposition Media America everybody knows Well, not everybody, but the game goes. If you don't have your publishing, you kind of get shows when they take your publishing. There's no shows. So that is that. You know when you don't have that it's very hard to, you know, sell records, and then the numbers go down and it's very hard to open other territories and it's also caused it. But it's hard and flight people from East Coast West Coast and can get very expensive. There's no you know, there's no tour bus is that you know, do certain my first route across candidate was with was flying, you know, with with beef, actually, the whole bunch of promo shows and then when I did the rock around with ragged death, there is so much different pockets that hip hop Hasn't been in, but hip hop.
