Zero COVID-19 cases at Seattle-area's long term care facilities for first time since pandemic
"Has been a year since the country learned about the first Corona virus outbreak in the nation at a Kirkland nursing home. She found one of the patients right away to sing her smile made me happy for Kathy. It is essential to remember the first victims the ones taken by Covitz. What significance does this place have for you? A lot of love. Is a lot of love shown here for the residents. One year ago, she volunteered to work inside. What had quickly become known as the epicenter of Corona virus was one of the first ones to volunteer to come here. And I'm glad I did. And she worked for the life care center in Puyallup when she learned the Kirkland facility had been ravaged by the coronavirus patients, and even more staff were testing positive here. I called here. Hey, I want to help. I want to be there helping you. Within three hours of that call. She was inside the baker unit at the life Care center assigned to 18 patients, her family and friends worried for her safety. She never got sick, right? I never really worried about. It was just too busy to even really think about it because there was work that needed to be done. Lombard knew 10 of the residents who lost their lives. It's hard. You just know that you did the best you could for them, and she could have been on the inside and seeing how hard we were working. But a federal inspection home found critical issues inspector said. And not only on the day January 6 but all the events and everything he did leading up to that day. On January 6. If conviction is off the table, and it appears right now, it doesn't seem likely. How about this idea that at some point they might put forward a vote to censure. Former president Trump and that could that could get some Republican support. It is possible but George even after all we saw yesterday. I don't see any concrete movement in that direction. For that to happen. You would need at least one or some of those 44 Republican senators that opposed this trial to step forward and say they condemn what Donald Trump did. And they believed that the Senate must be on record condemning it as well. That may yet happen, but I haven't seen any of them stepped forward and call for yet again. That's a veces Jonathan.

S. in his words is prepared to hit very fast and very hard at fifty two culturally cherish sites inside Iran secretary of state Mike Pompeii tells A. B. C.'s this week that the American people should know that every targets that we strike will be a lawful targets present trump has been diligent about that he doesn't want war he's talked about this repeatedly he is a reluctant participant in this but he will never shy away ABC news correspondent Karen Travers is with us from the White House good morning Karen the morning the rhetoric seems to be ratcheting up yeah and the president just a couple hours after Mike Pompeii did the big rounds in the Sunday political talk shows where he said that the US will behave lawfully with in the system he says that we always have and always will a couple hours later the president contradicted that doubling down on his threat to target a running in sites that have significance to that country culturally the president said to reporters on Air Force One last night they're allowed to kill our people they're allowed to torture and maim our people and we're not allowed to touch their cultural side it doesn't work that way well it does because the president's threat could be a potential international war crime and a violation of the Geneva convention that you don't cook target sites that have kept cultural significance is there any feeling or or word that hearing at the White House that there is some push back against this attack that the U. S. staged well this certainly push back from Democrats first just because of a process here Democrats say that the it ministration did not properly brief Congress and give that advanced warning ahead of time and that they should have done that and they have to consult with Congress under the war powers act has bigger Nancy Pelosi says that the house will vote this week to limit the president's authority to take military action against Iran she called that strike last week that took out Qassem Soleimani quote provocative and disproportionate Iraq's parliament yesterday voted in favor of a resolution calling for US troops to leave the country where does that stand well it's non binding but certainly if this is added another dimension to the challenges of the administration has in the Middle East the president yesterday told reporters that the US will demand Iraq pay back the money that the US has invested in that country through the U. S. military any threatened economic sanctions if troops are forced to withdraw if this is not done in a friendly way between US and Iraq it will make a runny and sanctions looks somewhat tame I mean the U. S. has spent billions of dollars of course in or rock rebuilding there but also just for the US military presence the bases and outposts that are there the president has always said he wanted to bring troops out of Iraq this could be a way that he does it by saying they made us do it the president's just wrapping up but extended holiday vacation at his resort in Florida there are there are there any plans for him to address the nation on this nothing sixteen full days in Florida that seventeen if you count the ninety travel down there and today he has no public events here at the White House alright Karen thanks for your time is always say be sees Karen Travers with us from the White House Vermont senator Bernie Sanders holds a very narrow lead over former vice president Joe Biden in the latest poll for the New Hampshire democratic primary the CBS poll shows that Sanders leads Biden twenty seven percent to twenty five percent Elizabeth Warren is further back eighteen per said Pete booted yours is fourth at thirteen percent again in New Hampshire the new report shows the US states will need to tackle greenhouse gas emissions to be climate change the study released by the rocky mountain institute stated that the shrinkage of coal mining has decreased electric power sector emissions but natural gas and other fossil fuel emissions have remained the same the institute hopes to see greenhouse gas emissions reduced by eighty percent by the year twenty fifty a South Carolina police officer has become the first U. The Green and White Tin Grille That Inspired Me
"I've mentioned on this podcast that in addition to my project car dart not I also have a project truck a seventy six dodge d. one hundred and this is the story of a truck that I call low par by this portion of the episode. You probably already know that I call nineteen seventy to nineteen eighty dodge trucks tin grills. It's the affectionate name that was coined by my friend. Paul for these trucks and I've always liked him. But I never actually considered buying one for a project until I saw one at a car show. Oh that changed my mind entirely. It was the same month. That I started the Mope one hundred facebook page and I was at a good guys car show in Puyallup Washington when I saw a tin grill. That really really inspired me to get one for myself. I was going so these shows are so big that what I do. Typically unless something catches my eye I just focus on the Mo Mo par partaking pictures on sometimes talking owners so I was going Mo- part of Mo- par checking out the cars and taking pictures pictures when I saw a green and white tin grill. That had the coolest concept I had ever seen on an old dodge truck. What the owner did was he made? Aided a tribute to Mr norms grant spaulding dodge. And what I mean by that. Is He lettered this truck up to look like an old shop truck with weathered looking door or logos and other PATINA. Did you know weathered look lettering on the tailgate vendors in bed Another cool little detail was that he had the little grand spaulding style cartoon Ram on the Front of the fenders. So if you didn't know any better when you saw this truck you would think it was a legitimate truck. DOC from grand spaulding dodge so it looked like if Mr Norm had a shop truck or apart struck this is what he would drive for. This is what the parts runner would drive so for me. Being a big fan of Mr Norm and his work. I was absolutely blown away by this truck. It was so cool. I was just drooling over at taking pictures and just thinking to myself. Wow what an awesome idea and and it was executed so well the Patina on the lettering and just the truck as a whole was done very well and it remains one of my favorite trucks to this very day I briefly spoke with the owner and expressed my love for this truck to them and told them what an amazing you know. What an amazing build he accomplished? I actually thought it was a real Mr Norm truck like looking at it like you could have told me that. That's really really grand spaulding shop truck. I would have believed you. That's how good this was done. The owner of the truck. His name's Murray He's from British Columbia Canada. He came up with the concept and built the truck as a tribute to grant spaulding dodge and Mr Norm and let me just say that he absolutely nailed it. This truck was great. I would go as far as to say that. I've never been so affected by any other truck in my life all the trucks. I've seen that are really cool. This truck truck left the biggest impact on me. I I'm not just saying that. For dramatic effect. Everything about the truck was awesome and without oh getting into too much detail about it. Because I'm actually friends with Murray now and I plan on having him on a direct connections episode of this show so I what I will say is the truck was a beautiful two-tone J. Three citerne metallic green with white tastefully lowered with a strong little three Sixty v eight it had had twenty inch wheels and had some really cool other touches like accustomed front lip spoiler that was tuck nicely under the front bumper. which was actually custom on the front? Bumper was actually customized to the house to round Amber Marker Lights which I thought was a really cool detail because you know details like that. A lot of people would overlook but if you really know these trucks go that. That's pretty cool. Oh I've never seen that done before so that was pretty cool and I. I was never really a expert on these trucks. So the little things that stood out to somebody who was I was familiar with wasn't an expert but there are certain little things about the truck that were just standing out in at first looking at it I was like there's something about this truck that's completely different. And the more you looked data more little things you would see so he also had a rear bumper. The the nonstop cromer bumper from Aram charger and it was nicely. talked into the bed. which you know is another cool little detail the the details of the trucker just really cool and Murray actually even had a custom? Tim Dealer Sticker made that was weathered to match the rest of the PATINA. Look on the truck so on the on the tailgate on the corner the upper corner of the tailgate of this truck. It had a black can white grand spaulding dodge Chicago Illinois sticker and it was perfectly whether to look like it had been on this truck since the mid Seventies. I thought it was so cool. The truck is in one thousand nine hundred. Seventy Eight Dodge D. One hundred and when I saw it originally actually had a seventy two grill on it because sorry Murray if this is a big secret but good guys had a year cutoff. So in order to Seventy eight and at the time. They weren't leading cars that new into the show so he puts a seventy two grill on it and Walla. He's in so he snuck his way in. And that's okay that that show was better having that truck in it so you know if good guys ever gets word of that. Hey good guys relax okay. They actually they upped the year range. I'm sure it was because a lot of the GM guys you know the C ten guys and those g body guys. They're probably crying moaning about not being able to get their seat ends ends in and they're they're little. Gee Bodies in so now it's up to like eighty seven so if you have anything pre eighty seven you can take it to that show anyways. Let's get back to subject here. I've never seen another bill quite like it and I don't know if it's just because I'm a moped nostalgia guy or what. The charges just awesome. I'm actually say I'm GonNa Post more pictures of this truck but it's so cool. It deserves more views so be sure to check that out. I think I'M GONNA have to carve my own path and do my own thing with my truck but I will say that it will remain one of my favorite trucks to this day.

Komo news time three twenty five. From ABC news, Tech Trends, the next major tech innovation could be a team effort. Chances. Are you've used something. "Tacoma Puyallup and Mike would. And I believe King County just open their four store. So they there's a there's quite a few in King County. Okay. And again, I'll drive people to your website for you. Look those up. Hey, there might be one of my neighborhood. It's TPC dash habitat dot org. Right. Tacoma, Pierce county, the T P C. You gotta throw that dash in there when you're type, that's right. Habitat dot ORG. Yeah. Okay. And now I wanna go back to volunteering because you sort of said people come back and do this again. How you'd like to grow? I mean, what did you say twelve or so built per year the last couple of years, the goals gotta be bigger than that. I mean Millard Fuller's goal and just getting past that goal. How do you do you guys? Go five year plan ten year plan businesses do that we. Yeah, we do off its must right? Absolutely. You know, it's not so much. I I don't think that we have metrics in there about the number of homes. We intend to build such as the families number families. We hope to, sir. In whatever way that may be so another option besides just building homes as rehabilitating homes. So we have in the past received donations of homes straight out homes that need a lot of work and our same construction crew will go in there and instead of building from the ground up there remodeling home that's already in existence. And then the sales model is the same. So it's it's told to habitat partner family with the same type of a mortgage. So in a lot of areas that and we're quickly approaching that here where there's not a lot of land available. But there is a lot of housing stock. That's how habitat works. Greater L A is an example, they do pretty much. No new construction at all down there as all all home rehab. So I think as time goes on. That's how things are going to go in the northwest as well. We're going to be doing a lot more rehab rather than new construction, but with the same idea, so and is it the number of volunteers or is the money. It's the many, you know, we have we always like more volunteers, especially in the winter because you know, all those people that want to come out in the summer and come out and drowsy summer. Not so keen to come out in the winter when it's cold and wet and miserable. So yeah. But for the most part, it's not a lack of all tears. It's a it's a lack of funding, and it's a lack of land or available houses, or if you have or if you have a home that you're not well, that's a perfect thing to some people may be approaching retirement. So you know, what I'm ready to sell and move or get out of this size a house right habitat? Donating it donating your house to habitat is is excellent. Excellent idea. Okay. So now, we're talking about waiting, and and so the next time people can really I guess I can apply for this probably not until next year. Right. Right. So we have were holding up locations right now an opening that that application period backup. In january. We have enough families in the pipeline to fill next year's batch of homes. So do not keep people waiting in the pipeline too long. We were just it. It's because it's an interesting dance between their finances and the building process that has to take place right now, we're asking you to check back in January apply at that point in time. And in the meantime, you know, it doesn't hurt especially if you're in that income range to take a look at your credits took scores. See what you might need to do in order to to clean up anything, that's a mess there. So that when you do apply, you're all ready to go and Tracy before we run out of time. I got time for one more question than Alaska, you, you know, the sort of tidiest up. I don't know. I guess I want to hear the response you get to go back and talk to some of these homeowners now after they've been what what are they say? What I I don't know. Maybe they've raised a family. Maybe they've only been in a house for one year or something what are some of the reactions and responses that homeowners? That have been in a habitat house tell us. Yeah. So so many of them, especially the children that grow up there. You know, they're they're amazed about how they've been helped by it. They're aware of it and grateful for it one family that I talked with last year. They had they bought a habitat house in two thousand I believe so they've been there. They've been there seventeen years at that point and all of their children had the opportunity to go to college. And this is not something that that family would have been able to afford had they not had the stability of of a home. And the parents were just extremely grateful for that hand up that they had received in the beginning that allowed them to give their children a better life. And that's the thing that we hear over and over again, most families are first time homebuyers. They're the first. Yeah, I people in their in their family to have owned a home. So they realize that by having that asset that allows them to provide much more for their children than their parents were able to provide for them then for society in the community. Right. I'm thinking you mentioned a a family of ten okay? There's a potential future of ten families that are. Stable and giving back to society. Yeah. That's a great thing about that particular family all of in in two thousand when they bought their home that they were all children while they're all adults now and seven of the ten our homeowners themselves. Awesome. Yeah. Yeah. Terrific. Okay. So now, anything we left out tracer major point that you wanted to say or maybe something you all say twice or one, you know, get people to remember it and driving through the website warmer time. I don't know. What do you think you like to leave people with when you're done talking about Tacoma Pierce county? Habitat for humanity. My favorite thing about habitats is that there's something in it for everybody. So what whatever your angle of interest? Is there something that there's something in this mission in this organization that's gonna fit while for you? It may be as a volunteer may be as a donor. It may be helping out in some other way that you would never even thought of. So if you have an interest in affordable housing, if you have an interest in helping people contact us, contact your local habitat affiliate, and and to have a conversation with somebody about how you can get involved because kind of the skies. The limited in terms of how people can actually help for that. That's great. You're right. I mean, the people can volunteer and donate the you're right. It's such a great organization, and there's a lot of facets to it that anybody can fit in and in any way, a lot of things there are a lot of times. People don't think about things like snacks, we feed a lot of volunteers on Saturday. Trump. Scout troops that wanna make cookies or brownies for forty or fifty volunteers.
