"Everyone welcome to radio. This is Doug Hey and today I'm joined by my good good buddy who is so nice to talk to you sit Garza Helmet said welcome back to the podcast. Doug Nice to be here and thank you for having me on. It. was that was that was that to professional? No wonder. Out He's like, I don't want to be around that kind of anyway. Thank you so much for for for serious is always good to talk to you. Yeah same to you and. Say That anyone who is a longtime listener of the pod or follower up athlete knows exactly who you are. But you know who is said Garza Hohmann who who are you, and why should people pay any attention to what you have to say? Why don't know about the second question but the first question is that I'm. Well. Nutritionists running coach Author of two books and another one that I just finished. It's not out yet. PODCAST Vlogger I direct an ultra marathon. And I run a wellness center at at the Stanford in a nutritionist there and. father husband. That's that pretty much sums it all up. Yeah. You know our other things. That's a lot I do a lot of stuff which is i. think partly of what we're GonNa talk about today, but we'll see where that goes. Yeah I I was so disappointed in this year, we also come back out for the race would have been my. Third Time coming for the senior Costa Fifty K. which is. Without a doubt, my favorite ultra-marathon off there ever is Martin was or will be. I. Guess I can't say that definitively about I, I, can I mean there will never be a better race video It's such a cool race rents along the coast of the Mendocino coast like Northern California cliffs just absolutely stunningly beautiful and then through the redwoods and along this big river out of there, it's such a cool that and. But of course, like everything else it was canceled this year and I was sorry to Miss Miss that option is here. Yeah, I was I was a late hold out like we were getting the news about you know. Groups of fifty sounds like okay. I can do that because all space my runners out Mr groups of twenty five probably can do that. You know, and then finally it was a group of ten and I was like okay and I had to pull the plug and it was really. I took it way harder than thought it would take it. I was very bombed Tanaka the race and. It's come for some reason. The last couple of weeks I think I'm trying to nail down next year's date and everybody who signed up to have a free. You know they have a free entry into next. You basically postponed the race a year essentially, but I'm like drinking coffee out of my Mendocino Coast Fifty K. last few days I've been wearing the hat like. Just around surrounding myself with all things Mendocino. Miss you so much. You know it's It's such a fun. It's like the it's such a thing I look forward to every year and to not have it this year amongst every amidst everything else was just really a bummer. Yeah what what do you think was the most? Disappointing part about if you just about the about the race by cancelling. Yeah. Just because I love the it's such as you know for anybody who's run it they know but I keep the number on purpose. You know have quite a big wait list actually but I, keep the number very tight at one hundred fifty. Because it's really intimate fun and it's become would have been in its fifth year, but there's a lot of returners. So it becomes this thing where it's almost familial. You out there there's traditions that are being built now around the race 'cause it's now it's not in its first year now in its would have been in its fifth and so it's it's a new race but you can sort of see the establishment of traditions in and just seeing people again for the you know that one time per year and it's just it's just I greet everybody when they come. Across the finish line because I keep the numbers manageable and it's just it's just this fun. Fully positive no negative day and even people who drop I've never had a negative person. They always come back and I go I. Miss a stupid thing. You know they get a beer and they walk over to the beach you know like it just so it's all good and I've knock on Wood I've never had. A bad experience around. So it's just it's just a fun thing for me to do. It is a good addition to altering community. Thank you for putting that on. Yeah, my pleasure. All. Right. So we'RE NOT GONNA be talking about the racer. We're not even going to be talking about today we're talking about a productivity and kind of staying focused in the age of that I. Know I have I've worked from home for a long time and you've partially worked from home for a while and so I'm used to this whole working from home thing. But I'm hearing increasingly more from people who from friends and family and stuff who are getting growing increasingly frustrated with the work from home experience and. They're having they're having trouble with productivity. You're having focused missing You know their friends at work and their colleagues and and so even though we're wet like five months into this whole thing and most people are still working from home. We. Thought it'd be good to talk about productivity and to talk about. You know just kind of waste to stay focused and and be efficient but we're doing it in the framework of small steps because you're like the small stuff guy, you might be the og small sips guy. I don't know what are small steps. I'm pretty I'm pretty Oh, Jeez most. Well, my small steps are from most other small steps. So I'm there are people out there talking about micro steps, break everything into two minutes my specific approaches to train people how to set their own well. I'll put this way a small step for me as an is the mindset it's what you view something as small step. So it's not a fixed amount of time in the world. It's just for you if it's a small

"So Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Garner. Hanging out on the beach together, but it's sort of like a funny beach setup because it's going to be totally relatable. Getting Naked in San Francisco: A History
"Who other than reporter just plot check could take on this not safe for work assignment off she goes from. The state of California has indecent exposure laws, but those only apply if someone is being sexual like masturbating in public or intentionally offensive flashing someone. But what if you're just hanging out naked minding your own business? California leaves that up to local governments. For the first half of the Twentieth Century San Francisco didn't have public nudity laws. FRISKIN S- just didn't go nude much but then the sixties arrived and with it naked people. Some saw disrobing as a form of political artistic or personal expression college students got a taste for streaking and then there were the hippies. It's just delightful to be in I'll be in and that's what this is another exotic prank to add to a growing list of student oriented rites of Spring. It's sort of a happy happening for hippies in San Francisco hippies wanted to get closer to nature and they got naked a lot in golden gate park. Here's a quote from police chief. Thomas Hill it wasn't uncommon for a Gal that come out of the bushes there in the. Panhandle. Without a damn stitch and stand right in front of you with our hands up. I was out in the park in two started going to it on the lawn beside me just to remind you sex is sexual and as such already illegal according to the state. But still conservatives wanted tougher local laws to prevent this kind of behavior and they eventually got nudity banned in the parks. However, the rest of San Francisco was still fair game. As time passed other cities made public nudity illegal among them, San Jose, and Berkeley Berkeley's interesting because it's been mostly due to one naked Guy Andrew Martinez a student at the University of California Berkeley. Decided that American society is sexually repressed and in an effort to write things he began attending classes and going everywhere else in the nude save for a pair of sandals backpack people theorized that Martinez was able to go nude without major complaint for so long because he was easy on the is Martinez attempted shock tactic soon, became old news among his fellow students to me was simply the naked guy. Administrators however sent Martinez home to stay warm until his case can be considered by a student conduct board in Nineteen ninety-two Martinez was expelled showed up naked to his disciplinary hearing at UC. Then in one, thousand, nine, hundred, three here arrived naked to a Berkeley city council meeting members were offended and voted to make public nudity a misdemeanor crime. Back in San Francisco Nudist, enjoy their time in the Sun City developed a reputation for bodies in the buff especially at certain public events like folsom street fair a leather fetish festival or Beta breakers of rambunctious twelve k race who was an exhilarating experience people on the sidelines cheering. Go naked people go. All right. This is a rich Pasco in nineteen, ninety eight he started running naked in Beta breakers. Pasco is also the coordinator of the Bay Area Nature rests we're group of people who believe that the human body is God's divine creation nothing to be ashamed of, and that our interaction with Mother Nature is enhanced by removing the barrier of clothing. POSCO says it wasn't just public events where people could let it all hang out there also newt approved beaches in certain places where nudists would congregate lose a group of people in San Francisco who thought that going new to Jane Warner Plaza would be a good idea. It's that plaza in the Castro with a few benches where the streetcar stops, it's a little urban park. In this little urban park became an urban nude beach,

Court Unseals Documents in Ghislaine Maxwell Lawsuit
"Unsealed documents show that Jeffrey Epstein was offering advice. Take Elaine Maxwell as latest 2015 despite her lawyer statement that the quarters socialite had no contact with the disgraced financier in a decade. Maxwell's in a federal jail in Brooklyn after her arrest this month on charges of engaging with Epstein in a sex trafficking scheme, she's trying to stop the disclosure of documents that include her sworn testimony in a civil case. Joining me is Bloomberg legal reporter Patricia Hatano, who's been covering the Maxwell case that give us the background on these documents there? This is a prolonged involved. Story goes back here. There was a young woman named Virginia Robert to Frank's, and she says that when she was 16 years old, she encounters going Maxwell at Mar a Lago. Her dad works there, the maintenance man, he gets a job at the law. She's handing out pals and ah lovely woman. British woman comes up to her She's reading a book about massage and offered her a job working for this wealthy man who wants to go looking for a private, Mr She said. She was 16 years old at the time. So she goes to the mansion. If it turns out, she's introduced Jeffrey Epstein and he immediately and Maxwell, she alleges. Forced her to perform sex acts with the two of them program and she became a sex slave she and alleges that was in 1999 2000. So then she ends up. Trying to join a law with victims of Epstein after everything gets his secret plea deal, and she makes him comments about Maxwell publicly and Maxwell coming back and issued a press release in January 2015. She makes pigments and says that this woman is a liar. Would provoke a pram a defamation lawsuit. Dupree, Suze Maxwell for Defamation and Natural gave testimony under oath questioned about the sex trafficking. Judy was very, very aggressive. Her lawyers included David Boy and this guy Bradley, Edward and Pottenger in Florida, and they really went to question Maxwell at people that worked at the stain home in Palm Beach. All kind of allegation. Soju phase allege with force have sex that you have traffic in Spain. This man including alleged princes, possibly Prince Andrew. She named him and Maxwell denies it. So what happens is the stuff was all settled right? On the eve of trial, 2015 losses got settled right before trial, And then the documents were under field. So how did all those sealed documents get unsealed before Jeffrey Epstein's suicide? But after F being gets prosecuted, the Miami Herald goes to ask why this field And the Court of Appeals. Second Circuit Court of Appeals directed that the judge who had originally had the law didn't properly feel you shouldn't have properly field everything. It was improper to keep all the documents from the public. And so that's how we get to this point. The circuit orders last on the order all these documents and fields and all the documents start hitting the docket. And the next day, Jeffrey Epstein is found dead in his jail cell of an apparent suicide. So the document release was sent back to a new federal judge to preside over what properly on field in what should not be properly and field And you can imagine there's all these implications for other people whose names may can't come off other victims who allegedly were there when the trafficking occurred or were also traffic who may not want to have their names come out there like a Jane Doe Juan and a Jane Doe two and no Mortal, Jane Doe and also John Doe. So Judge Preska on July 23rd shelter hearing after you know, Matthew now been charged and says, Okay, let's go and have a hearing about what you get on field, So she ordered the first transfer documents to be unsealed last Thursday night, So that's how we get to the testimony. Maxwell with questioned under oath. The government used the testimony as a basis say stay. She lied and committed two counts of perjury for lying when she claimed she was never present. When Ft may have been sexually abusing, underage girl know, and she'd seen anything like it, she was not aware of that activity, illegal activity no more. President ever witnessing it so that testimony remains under seal because she went for an emergency motion and after the court of Appeals to again stop the release. Thursday night, the 30th so that was on 11th hour stock about part But the rest of the documents hit the docket starting at like 9 30 on Thursday night. How many documents are already out 2000 pages released in August. So that's when we started first seeing these allegations of possible you know Prince Andrew's involvement, some captains of industry more implicated some senators from former president their allegations that were flight records of people who were on the plane. The MPB Photo & Video Hall of Fame
"A full to another episode of this week in photo I am your host Frederick Van Johnson today I'm looking to be joined by Matt Barker. He runs a little company called MPP. It's cross the pond, and over on this side, we're going to be talking about some of the projects that they're working on and just sort of getting to the bottom of this hall of fame thing that he cooked up. He met welcome to the show. How's it going? On keep having me. Good evening evening here so Here The It's good to have you good to have you. So let's talk about this. So first of all, let's talk about the company. What is All. About what's the company you sort of elevator pitch for for what you guys do? Show assets pretty. Straightforward. We now the largest platform globally. For photographers, videos, filmmakers to buy sell and trade kit. So we are online and available in the whole of the US where you are in the UK and all across Europe as well. So buying anything from entry level. Salah Kit maybe one hundred bucks up words right the way through to syndicate Red Kit things of that nature. Up to the various kind of high end of things. So I think overall reprise across about six thousand different products and buying and selling lenses, bodies, etc way. Primarily within the kind of autofocus era within the digital era with bodies. But obviously that's a huge catalog of kit. And now now the biggest and the best place to be doing that really. So that's in a nutshell, our PB DOT COM. That's fantastic. Congratulations on that. So so just just to put a finer point on it. So the largest the largest player in the buy sell trade. World for photographers and videography or creative professional's doing that sort of stuff. What does that look like in terms like today right? So as we record this, it's July sixteenth twenty twenty and and obviously if you know your history people this was in the middle of the pandemic, we're currently in the middle of a global pandemic. In, what how does that affect the world of of buy sell trade? Is it a positive effect is negative or is it benign? Question I think. It's been obviously an awful time for all of us and really really challenging for business in general and. It's usually by this many businesses literally having to shot of their Dole's. I think from our points of view and it was fairly similar in the UK to the US. So in the US based in New York because you said earlier in the UK, based art in both the UK and New York went into lockdown around a similar time in March. And that stage. John Sentence for us we we weren't sure if we could remain operating tool at that time and around the balls that were being put in place and things like that, and we run a massive warehouse here in Brighton Beach Warehouse in Brooklyn and so i. I kind of concentration from us, I, guess when this thing came on was the safety of our staff primarily, it was very much a stop first customers this second approach. But I think once we got past those early weeks and got measures in place in warehouses to ensure that everyone was safe and we continue to operate. We've seen is like a really really positive thing in many ways, which is the it's been clear to me watching what's been happening on the platforms that people have been really engaging with photography actually, and we've had loads of new in new engagements and new customers coming onto the platform for the first time. Has Been recent huge growth and not. Someone said to me I guess is that during what's been everyday difficult time during a time where people have had to spend a little time indoors and? Changing the normal habits working from home excetera. I think people have found a lot of comfort and joy in their hobby and turns about passion point and to to to find. Some pleasure really at quite difficult time. So and we're certainly not a net beneficiary of this thing at all. The companies out there like Amazon's. Wouldn't ever say that that was the case walnut to be the case. But we have seen. Huge. In great engagement in a way, is clearly evident. The people have been been quite active with their hobbies. So that's been really really positive and I am going to see and like I say we're very lucky that we've been able to continue to operate to row being an online only business as we all. Say Some Fortune. I suppose dipped in that, which is you know not been the easiest thing to find a late. So yeah, it's it's. You know as as a business as well. I think because we all we've been around since two thousand eleven. So this is all on ninety. We're significant size business. Now, we're lots of people as well and again thank thankful for that because that gives us resilience and helps me I think if it had been if he had hits us when we were a much smaller company ABC's it's a lot more challenging to deal with, but we have. About one hundred people that work here. Now, not helped us in terms of resilience as well and being able. To change the way, we operate to to accommodate things at this time so. Yeah it. Definitely. Definitely a challenging. But definitely. Some positive things in there that we we can be talking about as well? Which is quite

No because I had been on the board for cheese, probably fifteen years I'm it had just been a long process Mother was gracious and allowed me to raise my children before I came on the board because I was pregnant when the. Betty. Ford. Center open. So. I don't think I came on the board until my youngest was first grade or second grade, and so she gave me some time to get my children raised in at least in school because it required several days travel and all of that in childcare and all the complications that we go through to participate in something like that. Let's go back a little bit and talk about the history of the Betty, Ford Center there's a lot of people who think that when your mother found her own recovery in the late seventy s, she went to the Betty Ford Center. It wasn't even here now was, how did the Betty Ford Center come to be. Johnson from Eisenhower Medical Center decided that. They wanted to have a treatment and it had been in the plan at Eisenhower for some time, they wanted to have an alcoholic treatment center on the campus. and. So Leonard firestone mother's dear, friend was also on the board of Eisenhower. And so Johnson Leonard. Kinda. Tag. Team. Durham. and. She was really in a recovery about four years. But she agreed and I and I thought that was a very courageous step to be so early recovery. So she came to all of us children and she said. When I'm long gone. You're the ones that are going to have to live with the fact that your mother had A. Drug and alcohol treatment. Centre, named after you. How do you feel about that? Wow, and we also we don't care. I mean. It's what a great Lexi you know. She was one of the first to step out and and share her story So once we got past that it was just a matter of mother and Leonard Raising the money. To get this place started and of course. Way? Back, then in the early nineteen, Eighty S. The Hazel and foundation played a role also in the birthplace. Can you share just a little bit about that? Well, mother spent quite a bit a time when to Hazelton, because Hazelton had done it. So well, they were probably the leaders in the in the sense that they had been around the longest And it was successful There's lots of treatment centers that haven't been successful. Some other went back and spent probably close to a week there visiting with counselors visiting with a staff talking, how do you do this? What did you do? Right? What did you do on? Why? What makes Hazelton successful because we basically wanted to copy what they had done, but in a different location sure who would have ever imagined decades later. The two organizations would come together and I WANNA to come back to that in just a minute. But First Susan I want to address an issue that. Always bothers me and then set the the Betty Ford. Center is seen as a place for. The rich and famous for the exclusive for those who can pay out of pocket. But that's not at all what's happening here is no and less than one percent of the patients here are what we would think of as celebrities. Yes. We've had some celebrities, but so was Hazelton I mean. So as other places everybody needs treatment, it doesn't matter what you do that determines you need treatment. So, and they don't get treated any different than. My Mother didn't get treated any different Long Beach. The women, she shared a room with. So it's the same.

Thank you so much for sending over some of skincare routine some of the oil they add stretch mark oil that I received and the postpartum bath IDs phys called. Back fits bath there it is I can't wait to. Lying the bathtub after baby and just enjoy myself. But let's talk about your skincare line. What is what is Montana skincare? How'd you come up with the name? What products do offer tells about like this whole journey yeah, Abou- in how your mom inspired it. Yeah. So modern organics is basically a simple plan face care line devoted to mothers and just kind of help navigate distress that pregnancy in early maternity kind of brings with say if in fun ways to pamper yourself in your growing belly but just also that self care aspect of creating that moment for yourself, it really comes through in our products and I wanted to really create something that I felt was safe in fun for MOMS to enjoy. During pregnancy and after and when creating the brand in finding the name was actually a really unique coffee for me because I had to really look to motherhood my own mom and my daughter and my daughter's name is Netanyahu, which in Hebrew means God's gift and that really resonated with me really love them meaning so much because I gonNA lose women that at a young age I knew I wanted to be a mom it was just one of those. Things like I always wanted to be a mom you know I I saw myself being this working mother never a soccer mom but I just always Selena most likely Napoli herself with a Mile Yeah. Yeah. So when I became a mom at twenty six seeing age, my mom became a mother not planned at all. It was like just such a miracle for me and so the name really resonated with me and when I was looking to my daughter and my mom. Montana just came in mind because in Hebrew that means gift. So I really loved that it had that cultural background but that me that you know that I really wanted to share the knowledge support in a widely wanted to give mothers that nurturing safe fun way to pamper themselves. So just as the NAIPAUL's that kind of gift remains part of the mothers that we nourish. but yeah, that's that's kind of like a little bit of the background. How I came up with the name in stuff We're you know we're kind of early on you know I, have a stretch mark oil instance bath, and both of them kind of again always keeping in mind how I want to like. Create a skincare. That's really mother's. Centered I couldn't find anything when I was pregnant in terms of oils that was fast absorbing save accessible just easy to put on in a lot of my friends as well. Overall consensus was like, Oh, I am do not use oils I. Typically use creams and lotions because oils are just sticky there messy. They get all over my clothes so I really wanted to create something that was easy to put on, but that would hydrate your skin at all day in. You could just put it on, put your blouse on and get going

"99 The game back out on the John Chuck Show, 9 22 on a wrong Monday evening. You know what time it is. That's life. That's what all the people say Coral 47410929 That's Solomon Brothers. Diamond text line, encourage leave us a comment there But going on with the show this evening, also to follow some social media at James, Age 316 He's at Jarvis United Crustaceans at 99 in the game. All right, so, obviously a bunch of days down in Florida. Let me tell you we Jarvis. This was the first time that we've gone down to visit my folks in Florida. And this is, I think a thing like this, like eight times. It's into the seventh or eighth time that we've gone down there. This's the first time that we flew and let me tell you not having to get in the car and drive for 12 hours, you know? It was so nice for Daddy. You know, I know my daughter loved because she likes to fly on an airplane. Get up. Get down Like you said the plane was completely full. But let me tell you have no idea how much Just nicer it, Wass. Listen, even going to the airport and and and all that kind of stuff. I mean, still still way better than you because I was joking like way landed today at 10 30 I mean, we got off the plane at 10. 30 and I was just with my dollars like you realize, like right now, we wouldn't even be in Georgia yet. We need probably in Tampa. You know, probably probably likely camp. It would be about where we were that not even probably in Tampa. At that point, Dr Down isn't too bad. I can't get that I can get going with that because you're going on vacation. I get up early Gun road but driving that from South Florida to Atlanta, That's what really sucks. And then no matter when you come back, you always hit traffic. In Atlanta. You always hit Atlanta traffic. I can't you know, Shout out to the folks at Delta. You've got all the protocols in place. You have to wear your mask. You know, we've got some custom masks and stuff Where you mask through the airport. Do what you gotta do, you know, get through everything, but you got to do with it. You're not selling the middle seat on Delta. Although American announces they're going to sell the middle seat on there, but up was so nice to fly. And let me tell you there's Jarvis sound about you. But there is nothing like beach life man. There's just when you get down to Florida and you in there, son. And there's palm trees lining the road, you know, and my folks live like Less than it takes us less than 15 minutes to get to the beach from where they live. I want to go like toe like that downtown Public Beach area. Fort Myers. There's just nothing like it, man. I mean, I so look forward. I get so sad when you know it's like finally going to be over and and no more Florida for I know why people retired, and I mean, I don't know how you can't go down there and not automatically feel better. You gotta you gotta automatically feel better. Because I tell you what sunshine and it was hot. Let me say it was smoldering Hot now way lucked out because and I joke with jobs. I found some little fun. Flub spots. Last time when I was down there, Damn it, Ron to Santa's. The governor didn't shut everything down as soon as I got down way got down there on Friday, the 26th or whatever. And the Santas that they shut down all the bars and everything. Restaurant stayed open. But anything that was like a bar that was serving mostly drinks and not food. Shut down. Shut down my partying Nightlife. So, like, okay to smoke 14 cigars on the front porch. You know, get my drink on there. But okay, so they did that. But luckily in Fort Myers, they did not shut the beaches down just south of Naples. They were shutting down the beach is because Miami and the East coast of Florida shut theirs down and the people were telling me that the reason Naples shut theirs down wasn't because of Corona virus. It's because the earlier in the year all of the East Coast, Florida people drove that hour hour and 1/2 to the West side, and they all flooded beaches in in Fort Myers and in Naples. So that's why the mayor of Naples shut their beaches down simply because he did even said on the news. I don't want to get overrun by all the East Coast Beach people important, but luckily in Fort Myers, our beaches were open. We got out there and spend a couple of days on the beach. Just beautiful life down there now. Couple of the things about okay? And I'm gonna argue with anybody about this. I will gladly argue with anybody about this, okay? The best breakfast is Bob Evans. Bob Evans is the best breakfast spot to go better than Cracker Barrel better than Waffle House Better than been IHOP. You want the best breakfast? It's It's Bob Evans that I was very disappointed. Jarvis Jarvis, do you know what mush is? You know what mush is. Have you ever had that before? You know, bushes? Okay, So if you're not from their Google mush in U S H, the food, Okay, so I imagine it's like a kind of like a cornmeal kind of square piece that we're like corn bread, But then you put butter and syrup on it. Yeah, It's really good. I love mush. And they usually serve it, Bob Evans, but because they have a limited menu didn't have that available. But let me tell you Eggs, sausage, There's sausage, gravy and biscuits. But a pancake with it. And I was in pig slop Heaven, Pig Slop Heaven, man. That is absolutely my favorite breakfast, and it's like one of the main things that when I go down there, I make it a point. Make sure that I get at least one Bob Evans breakfast. And when I tell you like I had eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy. We got their sin of cinnamon biscuit things with the icing. But you can dip into Jarvis. It was like a big feast, man. That that is. That is my favorite breakfast we grew up with in Ohio. I don't know why they don't have him in the state of Georgia. They have him in North Carolina. I've been to him in Charlotte. They've got him all over Florida because they also have Perkins in Florida, too. But for whatever reason, they don't have Bob Evans here in Georgia. I don't know what we gotta do to get Bob Evans in Georgia, But we need Bob Evans in Georgia way need buy them. You go the store and buy like their sausage and And all that kind of stuff. You could buy the Bob Evans sausage and all that kind of stuff, but I'm talking about We need the restaurants here in Georgia. And I don't I don't understand. I don't understand why we can't have Bob Evans. Like why Why certain chains or not in ST in some states and and not in others. I don't I don't I don't get that understanding. So, so good to get a bobbins breakfast. All right, Jarvis, I want you. I want to. I want you to jump on because I want to ask you this question because I was thinking about this and we were kind of my step. Dad and I were having a bit of fun with this on the last night that I was there so As you get older. And you go out to dinner with your parents who's supposed to pick up the check. I think you should. As a child. I think you should at least offer to pay for But if your parents insist you back down automatically, no question. So.

"Am and then during the middle of the day you couldn't go active recreation only so no one could sit down Sunday those mostly for running for surfing for individual kind of active beach activities. But you know for the most part I mean the California coast is one thousand two hundred miles long shots from Boston to Georgia and there are a lot of different beach communities up and down the coast some rural some super urban like Orange County in Los Angeles County so the rules have been different depending on what's needed to prevent overcrowding for the most part. The the governor's office and the Coastal Commission which is the statewide agency. That's usually in charge of regulating. The coastline have deferred to local officials and how to manage beaches and I think the one the clash was the one. Twin Governor is newsom and Orange County and that was just because the localities were not really they were looser. I guess about management and so. That's when the governor kind of put his foot down and Patricia. What about in Florida? How would you characterize Governor Rhonda Santa's approach to beach openings and working with localities? His approach has been to let this be decided at the county and city level. There was never an order to close down all the Florida beaches or any of them the when they closed it was on a county by county basis and usually if a county didn't want to close it was forced to eventually when it's neighboring counties did and they found an influx of people in the county that still open There were some internal debates with local governments. We saw for example in some emails that we obtained in Saint Johns County. Which is where. Saint Augustine is just south of Jacksonville where the medical examiner had been the county administrator police close down the beaches because the county had an unusually high corona virus infection rate and she was a turned away like the county administrator explained his reasons and said we're not doing it but then they eventually did because Jacksonville closed down its beaches. People were just going into Saint Augustine in Naples on the Gulf coast. They had to briefly. Close the beaches after reopening them earlier this month because of the crowds open to them up again and in south Florida which is seen the the bulk of the brunt of the cases in the pandemic it was never really in question that the counties were going to stay closed a little bit longer and even Broward County which is where Fort Lauderdale is wanted to open sooner but knowing that people from Miami might drive up to Fort Lauderdale. They decided to wait until until when Miami made up its mind and then finally the Florida keys have been avoiding having that influx from outsiders by by having a roadblock where only residents can be in the keys and that's going to be lifted in June an who stands to lose access if public facilities on beaches are closed or limited is it mostly residents. Or how much is Florida thinking about tourism? For the summer tourism is a is a big concern especially in communities that rely on people coming down and like renting a house on the beach know vacation rentals have been a real issue they were prohibited a during you know weeks and weeks during the pandemic and finally the governor said you know if you want to allow rentals in your county again and you have to send me a plan on how you're going to safely do that. For example in the panhandle along the Gulf coast where vacation rentals are key to the local tourism economy. They were quick to submit a joint plan and part of the plan for example was that they would not rent to people who were coming from places that high had a high incidence of the virus. So for example if you were coming from New York City. We're not going to be able to rent a house in Pensacola Beach and Rosanna. What about in California if beach parking lots and even the public facilities of public bathrooms stay closed in California this summer. Who Will it impact the most? That is a great question. I mean beach. Closures here have raised interesting Equity Issues. And you know most of the local jurisdictions that have been managing crowds. They've been managing crowds by limiting which parking lots are open or enclosing keeping the bathrooms closed. And all the public facilities and by doing that. What you're essentially doing is creating a situation where those who are fortunate enough to live. Walking or biking distance to the beach can still go and kind of plan for even like a twenty minute. Walk along the beach and then go back to your own home for about for the bathroom or not park but those who live further inland. Who are trapped in heat zones or by freeways or don't even live in enough neighborhoods to walk around the ones who literally plan entire Saturday with the whole family and they talk the van or they take the bus all the way out there and they're the ones that end up not getting any access to the beach during this time and this is an issue that we talk about a lot in California. You know whenever we talk about Knox's issue with specific beach a lot of the time it's nitpicking. How many parking spots are available for that specific beach because parking is such a part of the access component when we talk about allowing folks who don't live by the coast to access the coast so that's been a really challenging issue that I've seen a lot up another ghost?
