A Prayer for Direction

"Some 86 5 says you, lord, are forgiving and good, abounding and love to all who call to you. I haven't always done this right before. And know that I am likely to choose my own paths today. Help my heart to align with your will. Open my mind to your best in your ways. Lord, you say I'm proverbs three 5 through 6, trust in the lord, with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Would you help me not to just hear that or read that? But to truly believe that. Help me to place my full trust in you. Holy Spirit give me the strength to believe you. And not what my human eyes can see and my human mind can comprehend. Give me the ability to do this in all my ways. Thank you for promising to make my path straight if I trust in you. God, you told Isaiah and Isaiah 30 21. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying this is the way walk in it. Would you please open my ears to your voice? You are still speaking and guiding your people in this world today. Would you help me to take time to listen and be still and know that you are my God? There are so many voices around me competing for your place in my life. Help me not to focus on the voices around me. Help me to hear your voice alone as a my authority. Then, as I seek wise counsel and ask trusted advisers in my life may I always sift through their words with you and with your word. Thank you lord for giving me the gift of your Bible. I am grateful for your holy and perfect words. Help me to remember that you have many answers for me just waiting written in the Bible. Give me the drive and the urgency to seek you out in your word. Help me to love descriptions and learn from the people within them. Thank you for this beautiful map of guidance in my life. Help me to use it every day to grow in my love for you. I'm in.

A Prayer for Those Who Feel Hopeless

"Although it's often hard for us to have hope, and believe we can depend on God, some 18 two assures us, the lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. My shield and the horn of my Salvation, my stronghold, even though the earth seems unstable, our hope is in God. As proverbs 1810 describes. The name of the lord is a fortified tower, the righteous run to it and are safe. Let's pray, dear father, today's world events and uncertainties bring waves of hopelessness into our daily lives. Help me to not look around at the situation and circumstances, but to look up where my help comes from. Caused me to fix my eyes upon you. Because you, O lord, are my refuge and my fortress. My God, in whom I trust. As well, dear father, strengthened me to put my hope in you and you alone. Not in past experiences, the government or the world. Thank you for sure me, that you will meet all my needs according to the riches of your glory in Christ Jesus. Help me to remember how your compassion never fail. Your mercies are new every morning towards me. And your faithfulness is great. Filmy O God of hope, with all joy and peace as I trust in you. Overflow me with hope by the power of your Holy Spirit. Help me to remember my hope in you does not disappoint and through your spirit, you pour out your love into my heart. Father, strengthen my faith with confidence and my hope in you. Let me rest in your assurance concerning my future and things unseen. Trusting your faithfulness in my life. In Jesus name, amen.

A Prayer for the Words We Speak

"Proverbs 15 one reads, a soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. We've all likely been on the receiving end of the rash words spoken by another person. Maybe their words stoked strong emotions in us or led us to retaliate unkindly. Adding salt to the one they inflicted. Conversely, I shudder as I think of who may have a painful memory of hurtful words I've spoken. With the knowledge from scripture and with the help of the Holy Spirit, let us be diligent choosing our words purposefully. We can use our conversations to provide comfort, not illicit pain, after all, our role as Christians is to be the aroma of Christ everywhere we go. It's like Corinthians, two 15 through 70. We want our words to be a refreshing alluring scent trail to be followed and not a stench for those who Christ is calling to himself. Words can be painful, sometimes I think it might be easier to endure sticks and stones over a verbal attack. May we extend forgiveness to those who have carelessly spoken a rash word that caused us pain. And ask the Holy Spirit to transform our rash words into words full of wisdom that bring healing. Should a harmful word escape our lips may we be quit to repent and repair acknowledging the impact of what it's like to be on the receiving end of a rash word. Let's pray. God, thank you that the blood of Jesus covers not only lessen, but the sins that others have inflicted on me. You die for every harsh word we've spoken and the words that others have spoken against us. Thank you. Lord, forgive us for how we have carelessly spoken and hurt the people around us. God, thank you for the reminders from your life giving word that the things we say are so powerful. God, would you make us tender to conviction when our tongues become sharp? Would you set a guard over our mouths and keep watch over the door of our lips forward? So one 41 three. May we wield the power of our tongues to build each other up and encourage one another, and one way failed Jesus would you forgive us and give us the courage and wisdom to use our words to bring healing. And use this name, amen.

Should Christians Learn the Greek Tradition? Dr. Jeff Myers Explains

"You mentioned the book of John, which is my favorite book, the recommend to people. Yes. It's my second favorite book of the Bible genesis is my favorite and then John and proverbs as well. I appreciate everyone. So with you. Yeah. Isaiah? Isaiah? Yeah, I actually, you know, it's so funny. Your zone was just on our program. I don't know if you know it or not. And he was so insistent that I have to really study Isaiah. I really had never had a chance to have read it, but I haven't really studied it. Obviously the prophecy is profound and confirms our faith in many ways. But let me ask you, do you think that because you're a very studied man and very thoughtful and your book is very clear, do you think that Christians should understand the Greek tradition? The better understand the context and also the language that is used in the gospel. So understanding the original languages is important. If you can at least get a commentary, a Bible dictionary, look at some of the words that are being used. And I would say, so the Old Testament is almost all in Hebrew, the New Testament is almost all in Greek. So those are two ancient languages. People aren't that familiar with. The Hebrew, I think, is super important to understand. I've been talking with a lot of orthodox Jews about the nature of the Hebrew language. They believe that the prototype language that all language really came out of that. Of course, Moses would have been that was a total groundbreaker how educated he was. The brilliant philosopher that he was and then also a leader. So he's rightly well thought of among Jews and among Christians. But understanding the original language is really important. Because what these words mean. Like we talked about logos earlier. That's such a cool word. And if you just say, oh, logos means word. No, you really haven't gotten it. There's a whole philosophy underneath. That's right. The same

Day 16: The Suffering of Job

"We are reading today day 16 from chapter 31 and 32. Job 21 and 22 and proverbs three, 9 through 12. Let's get started. Genesis chapter 31 and 32. Now Jacob heard that the sons of Lebanon were saying, Jacob has taken all that was our father's and from what was our father's he has gained all his wealth. And Jacob saw that laban did not regard him with favor as before. Then the lord said to Jacob. Return to the land of your fathers and to your Kindred, and I will be with you. So Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah into the field where his flock was, and said to them, I see that your father does not regard me with favor as he did before. But the God of my father has been with me. You know that I have served your father with all my strength, yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not permit him to harm me. If he said, the spotted shall be your wages, then all the flocks or spotted. And if he said, the striped shall be your wages, then all the flock or striped. Thus God has taken away the cattle from your father and given them to me. In the mating season of the flock, I lifted up my eyes and saw in a dream that the he goats, which leaped upon the flock or striped, spotted and modeled, then the angel of God said to me in the dream, Jacob, and I said, here I am, and he said, lift up your eyes and see. All the goats that leap upon the flock are striped, spotted, and modeled. For I've seen all that laban is doing to you. I am the God of bethel, where you anointed a pillar and made a vow to me. Now arise, go forth from this land and return to the land of your birth. Rachel and Leah answered him. Is there any portion or inheritance left to us in our father's house? Are we not regarded by him as foreigners? Free has sold us, and he has been using up the money given for us. All the property, which God has taken away from our father, belongs to us into our children. Now then, whatever God has said to you, do.

A Prayer for Flexibility in Our Planning

"In proper 1921, Solomon understood the importance of having a good plan. He miss assuredly ascribed to those who failed to plan plan to fail. Mentality. Maybe his reason for stressing the importance of a good plan was that he oversaw all the intricate details involved in designing and building the temple and other important structures in his kingdom. Whatever the reason, in Solomon's wisdom, he reinforced throughout proverbs, the importance of consulting with godly council, seeking God's will, and all of the vital parts of the planning process. However, Solomon also warns us that we mustn't hold our plans with the tight fist, but rather an open palm. Humans can provide the perfect plan, outline the right road map for success or perfect their proposal. But only the lord's intentions will come to fruition. That doesn't mean we should neglect to make any arrangements abandoned thinking about the future or squashed excitement for an upcoming event. However, we do have to remain flexible in our planning because sometimes our plans don't work out the way we hit. Sometimes we need the reminder that God's will Trump's our plans. James four 15. After I got my daughter home and settled, I updated the sitter we wouldn't be coming tonight and canceled the weekend plans. And instead of annoyance, I felt relief. More than we needed a date night, God knew our family needed to rest and relax. The unforeseen illness and canceled plans resulted in a cleared calendar and reminded us how God works all things, good and bad, out for our good and his glory. May we approach planning humbly, learning to adjust and adapt when things don't work out how we hoped, because God is all annoying and loves us dearly, we can trust his plans are always better than anything we orchestrate. May this truth free us to hold our plans loosely, dad quickly, when things don't work out the way we hoped. Let's pray. Dear God, thank you for your sovereign control over all areas of our lives. Please guide us as we seek to do your will by leaning on your words in the scriptures. Help us to be flexible in our planning and approaching planning with humility and surrender. But we not rely on our own ability, leaning on godlike wisdom and trusting that you're always working with the good of your people. When our planes fail, give us the grace to adjust and adapt, finding an opportunity to be joyful in our circumstances, but it's being encouraged not to boast about tomorrow, but take great delight in serving you today and everything we say and do. Thank you for your Salvation plan sending your son to redeem your creation from this following world. We love you. Amen.

Day 362 of The Bible in a Year: The Woman Clothed With the Sun

"We are reading revelation chapters 12, 13 and 14, the letter to the hebrews chapters one, two, three, and four, and proverbs, chapter 31 versus 19 to 22. The revelation to John, chapter 12 the woman and the dragon. And a great sign appeared in heaven. A woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head, a crown of 12 stars. She was with child. And she cried out in her pangs of birth in anguish for delivery, and another sign appeared in heaven. Behold, a red dragon, with 7 heads and ten horns, and 7 diatoms upon his heads. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child that he might devour her child when she brought it forth. She brought forth a male child, one who was to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God into his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God in which to be nourished for 1260 days.

Day 361 of The Bible in a Year: Judgment and Repentance

"We're reading revelations chapters 8, 9, ten, and 11, as well as Feynman and proverbs 31 versus 16 through 18. The revelation to John, chapter 8 the 7th seal and the golden sensor. When the lamb opened the 7th seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. Then I saw the 7 angels who stand before God, and 7 trumpets were given to them. And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden sensor, and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne, and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God. Then the angel took the sensor and filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it on the earth, and there were peels of thunder, loud noises, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake. The 7 angels and 7 trumpets. Now the 7 angels who had the 7 trumpets made ready to blow them. The first angel blew his trumpet, and there followed hail and fire mixed with blood, which fell on the earth, and a third of the earth was burnt up, and a third of the trees were burnt up. In all the green grass was burnt up. The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the fountains of water. The name of the star is wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died of the water because it was made bitter. The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light was darkened. A third of the day was kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night. Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice, as it flew in mid heaven, wow, wow, woe to those who dwell on the earth. At the blasts of the other trumpets, which the three angels are about to blow.

Day 360 of The Bible in a Year: Heavenly Worship

"We're reading revelations four 5 6 and 7, Titus one two and three, proverbs chapter 31 versus ten through 15. The revelation to John, chapter four the heavenly worship. After this, I looked and behold in heaven and open door. And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, come up here. And I will show you what must take place after this. At once I was in the spirit, and behold a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there appeared like Jasper and carnelian, and round the throne was a rainbow that looked like an emerald. Round the throne were 24 Thrones, and seated on the Thrones were 24 elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns upon their heads. From the throne issued flashes of lightning and voices and peels of thunder, and before the throne burned 7 torches of fire, which are the 7 spirits of God. And before the throne there is, as it were, a sea of glass, like crystal. And round the throne, on each side of the throne are four living creatures, full of eyes and front and behind. The first living creature, like a lion. The second living creature, like an ox. The third living creature, with the face of a man, and the fourth living creature, like a flying eagle. And the for living creatures, each of them with 6 wings are full of eyes all round and within, and day and night they never cease to sing holy, holy, holy, is the lord God almighty, who was and is and is to come. And whenever the living creatures give Gloria and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the 24 elders fall down before him was seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne singing worthy are you, our lord and God. To receive glory and honor and power for you created all things, and by your will, they existed and were created.

Day 358 of The Bible in a Year: From Rebellion to Faithfulness

"We're reading the letter of Jude. We are also reading second letter of St. Paul to Timothy chapter one and two, as well as proverbs, chapter 31 versus one through 7. The letter of Jude salutation Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James. To those who are called, beloved in God the father, and kept for Jesus Christ, may mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. Occasion of the letter beloved being very eager to write to you of our common Salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For admission has been secretly gained by some who long ago were designated for this condemnation. Ungodly persons who pervert the grace of our God into a licentiousness and deny our only master and lord, Jesus Christ. Judgment on the ungodly. Now I desire to remind you, though you were once for all fully formed, that he who saved a people out of the land of Egypt afterward destroyed those who did not believe. In the angels that did not keep their own position, but left their proper dwelling have been kept by him in eternal chains in the deepest darkness until the judgment of the great day. Just as sodom and gomorrah and the surrounding cities which likewise acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. Yet in like manner, these men in their dreamings defile the flesh, reject authority and revile the glorious ones. But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, disputed about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a reviling judgment upon him, but said the lord rebuke you. But these men revial whatever they do not understand, and by those things that they know by instinct as irrational animals do, they are destroyed. Woe to them. For they walk in the way of Kane, and abandon themselves for the sake of gain to balaam's error, and perish in Korra's rebellion. These are blemishes on your love feasts, as they boldly corral together, looking after themselves, waterless clouds carried along by winds, fruitless trees, and late autumn, twice dead, uprooted. Wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame. Wandering stars for whom the deepest darkness has been reserved forever. It was of these also that Enoch in the 7th generation from Adam prophesied, saying, behold, the lord came with myriads of his holy ones, to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness, which they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own passions, loud mouth boasters, flattering people to gain advantage.

Pastor Rob McCoy: The Bible Has Been Foundational to Our Language

"Did you know that less than 3% of Americans read their Bible daily? It's just dropped precipitously. Since the founding of our nation, all of our founders were very biblically proficient. They actually understood Greek and Hebrew. They studied Latin as well. A kids raised in America were first taught with a New England primer up until the 1930s, which was all scripture. Second graders would memorize the entirety of the book of John, yeah. We're like, well, I don't think I've even memorized John three 16. The word had an enormous God's word had an enormous influence in our culture. There's idioms that saturate our language, the English language, the Oxford English dictionary, credits the wycliffe Bible, the 14th century middle English translation of the Bible with more early citations of English words than the works of Dickens, Jane Austen, Thomas hardy, Samuel pepys, John Milton combined, the Bible, even outright outranks William Shakespeare with evidence of a grand total of 1547 new words compared to Shakespeare's 1524 words. It doesn't stop there. The numerous English translations in additions of the Bible produced over the centuries have likewise given us countless proverbs and sayings, an expressions, many of which have been dropped into everyday use, a lot of us use them day in and day out. Like OE of little faith and the biblical origins of many of these are interesting to say the least,

Day 356 of The Bible in a Year: God Is Love

"We're reading first John chapters four and 5 first Timothy, chapters one, two, and three, as well as proverbs, chapter 30 versus 24 through 28. The first letter of John, chapter four testing the spirits beloved. Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, to see whether they are of God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this, you know the spirit of God, every spirit which confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit which does not confess Jesus is not of God. This is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard that it was coming, and now it is in the world already. Little children you are of God, and have overcome them. For he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are of the world, therefore, what they say is of the world, and the world listens to them. We are of God. Whoever knows God listens to us, and he who is not of God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. God is love. Beloved. Let us love one another. For love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God for God is love. In this, the love of God was made manifest among us. That God sent his only begotten son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love. Not that we loved God. But that he loved us, and sent his son to be the expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No man has ever seen God. If we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him, and he and us. Because he has given us of his own spirit. And we have seen and testify that the father has sent his son as the savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the son of God, God abides in him, and he and God. So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love. And he who abides in love abides in God and God abides in him. In this is love perfected within us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world? There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and he who fears is not perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says I love God and hates his brother, he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, can not love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him that he who loves God should love his brother also.

Day 355 of The Bible in a Year: The Things of This World

"Are reading first John chapters one through three, second thessalonians, chapters one, two, and three. Same thing. As well as proverbs. Chapter 30 20 through 23. The first letter of John, chapter one the word of life. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life. The life was made manifest, and we saw it, and testify to it, and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the father and was made manifest to us. That which we have seen and heard, we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us. In our fellowship is with the father, and with his son, Jesus Christ. And we are writing this that our joy may be complete. God is light. This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you. That God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie. We do not live according to the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. Christ is our advocate. My little children I am writing this to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ, the righteous, and he is the expiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we may be sure that we know him. If we keep his commandments. He who says, I know him, but disobeys his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps his word in him truly love for God is perfected. By this, we may be sure that we are in him. He who says he abides in him, ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

"Second Peter chapters one, two and three, first thessalonians, chapters four and 5, and proverbs chapter 30 versus 17 through 19. The second letter of Peter, chapter one salutation Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours in the righteousness of our God and savior Jesus Christ. May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our lord. The Christians call and election. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises that through these, you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion and become partakers of the divine nature. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue and virtue with knowledge and knowledge with self control and self control with steadfastness, and steadfastness, with godliness, and godliness, with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these things are yours and abound, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these things is blind and short sighted, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore brethren be the more zealous to confirm your call and election for if you do this, you will never fall. So there will be richly provided for you and entrance into the eternal kingdom of our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Therefore, I intend to always remind you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the truth that you have. I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to arouse you by way of reminder, since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon as our lord Jesus Christ showed me. And I will see to it, that after my departure, you may be able at any time to recall these things.

Day 353 of The Bible in a Year: Husbands and Wives

"We're reading first Peter chapter three four and 5 first thessalonians, chapters one, two and three, as well as proverbs, chapter 30 versus 15 and 16. The first letter of Peter, chapter three wives and husbands. Likewise, U wives, be submissive to your husbands, so that some, though they do not obey the word, may be one without a word by the behavior of their wives when they see a reverent and chase behavior. Let not yours be the outward adorning with braiding of hair, decoration of gold and wearing of robes, but let it be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable jewel of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. So once the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves and were submissive to their husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are now her children if you do right and let nothing terrify you. Likewise, you husbands live considerately with your wives. Bestowing honor on the woman as the weaker sex, since you are joint heirs of the grace of life in order that your prayers may not be hindered. Suffering for doing right. Finally, all of you have unity of spirit, sympathy, love of the brethren, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not return evil for evil, or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless. For to this you have been called that you may obtain a blessing. For he that would love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking guile. Let him turn away from evil and do right. Let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the lord are upon the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the lord is against those that do evil. Now, who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is right? But even if you do suffer for righteousness sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your heart's reverence Christ as lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who calls you to account for the hope that is in you. Yet do it with gentleness and reverence. And keep your conscience clear so that when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior and Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing right if that should be God's will than for doing wrong. For Christ also died for sins once for all. The righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit. went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly did not obey when God's patience waited in the days of Noah during the building of the ark, in which a few that is 8 persons were saved through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God with angels, authorities, and powers subject to him.

Day 351 of The Bible in a Year: Draw Near to God

"We're reading James chapter three, four and 5. Colossians, letter of St. Paul to the lashes. Chapters one and two, as well as the book of proverbs, chapter 30 versus 7 through 9. The letter of James, chapter three, taming the tongue. Let not many of you become teachers my brethren. For you know that we who teach shall be judged with greater strictness. For we all make many mistakes, and if anyone makes no mistakes in what he says, he's a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. If we put bits into the mouths of horses that they may obey us, we guide their whole bodies. Look at the ships also. Though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So the tongue is a little member and boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire. And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is an unrighteous world among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the cycle of nature and set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird of reptile and sea creature can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind. But no human being contained the tongue, a restless evil full of deadly poison. With it we bless the lord and father, and with it we curse men, who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brethren, this ought not to be so. Does a spring put forth from the same opening freshwater and brackish? Can a fig tree my brethren yield olives or a Grapevine figs? No more consult water yield fresh. Two kinds of wisdom. Who is wise in understanding among you? By his good life, let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This wisdom is not such as comes down from above, but it's earthly, unspiritual, devilish. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable. Gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits without uncertainty or insincerity. And the harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. Friendship with the world. What causes wars and what causes fightings among you? Is it not your passions that are at war in your members? You desire and do not have so you kill. And you covet and can not obtain so you fight in wage war. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly to spend it on your passions. Unfaithful creatures, do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Day 347 of The Bible in a Year: Paul's Defense Before Agrippa

"We are reading from the actually apostles, chapter 26, ephesians one, two, and three, and proverbs, chapter 29 1821. The acts of the apostles, chapter 26. Paul makes his defense before Agrippa. Agrippa said to Paul, you have permission to speak for yourself, then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense. I think myself fortunate that it is before you, king Agrippa, I am to make my defense today against all the accusations of the Jews because you are especially familiar with all customs and controversies of the Jews. Therefore, I beg you to listen to me patiently. My manner of life from my youth spent from the beginning among my own nation and at Jerusalem is known by all the Jews. They have known for a long time if they are willing to testify that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a pharisee, and now I stand here on trial for hope in the promise made by God to our fathers to which our 12 tribes hope to attain as they earnestly worship night and day, and for this hope I am accused by Jews O king. Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead? I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of Jesus of Nazareth, and I did so in Jerusalem. I not only shut up many of the saints in prison by authority from the chief priests. But when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. And I punished them often in all the synagogues, and tried to make them blaspheme, and enraging fury against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities. Paul tells of his conversion. Thus I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. At midday O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining round me, and those who journeyed with me, and when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language Saul. Saul, why do you persecute me? It hurts you to kick against the goads. And I said, who are you lord? And the lord said, I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose. To appoint you to serve and bear witness to the things in which you have seen me, and to those in which I will appear to you, delivering you from the people and from the gentiles, to whom I send you to open their eyes that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. That they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.

"You're ready to get your mind aligned with the truth of God's word. We're going to be doing that by looking at proverbs, chapter 30 verse number ten. One verse today that has a powerful concept that I think really speaks to some issues in our culture that we need to pay attention to. So we're going to get there in just a moment, but first I want to say thank you to all those who are listening over in areas surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, really. We have Australia. We have Papua New Guinea. We have Indonesia. We have the Philippines. We have Malaysia, all these places that the morning mindset is being listened to that are so far away from where I am, but yet our brothers and sisters in Christ who are enjoying getting their mind aligned with the truth of God every day. Thank you for listening. Thank you for sharing the morning mindset with those around you. I am excited that God's word is not limited. The borders of countries and the distances across the globe do not hinder the spread of his word. I'm so thankful I'm thankful you're with me. Today we are going to look at proverbs, chapter 30 verse number ten. And upon first reading this verse, my brain just kind of said, man, there's not much to say about this, but then I started thinking really about what the author means and I realized this is something that just is permeating our culture that we really do need to talk about. 30 ten says do not slander a servant to his master. Lest he curse you and you be held guilty. So slander, let's make sure we have that right. Slander is when you are saying something about someone that is not true and that harms their reputation. Okay, so there's a negative bent to it. Slanders when you're saying something not true and it harms their reputation. So do not slander a servant to his master. So a person who's in a position of service and is responsible to someone else. In their day that may have been a slave, it may have been a hired servant. In our day, that would be an employee of someone else. So do not slander a servant or an employee to his master or employer. So stop right there and let's think about the circumstances in which this might happen in our day. Imagine yourself at a restaurant. The waiter or the waitress isn't doing the greatest job of service. You might have a temptation. You might have an opportunity for some reason to complain to the management to complain and there's nothing wrong with making a complaint if the service is actually substandard. But friends, when we do that, is it in our hearts at all to exaggerate the grievance? To exaggerate the circumstance to make the master feel more prone to take our side and more prone to do something about it. You see, I think that's what the writer is getting at here. He's saying, you may have occasion to bring up a concern about someone who's serving you in a certain capacity or someone who you see doing something that you don't think is right. But don't embellish your report. Don't exaggerate to the master. Because when you do that, number one, you're not being truthful. Number two, you're making that person out to be worse than they really are. And number three, I think underneath all of it. There's this desire in your own heart to make yourself look better. And to get something out of this situation, something more something better, something that makes you be the one who's catered to in that circumstance. Now look at the reason that he gives here. Lest he curse you. Okay, now I'm not sure if the he is referring to the servant or the he's referring to the master. My guess is it's probably the master. So in other words, if the master realizes you're embellishing and things poorly of you because of the kind of twisting of the circumstance that you're doing in the setting. Unless he curse you and you be held guilty. So in other words, you're doing this to try and get something for yourself. But in the end, you're the one who comes out looking bad. Because you're trying to twist things to your own advantage. Friends, this is exaggeration. This is embellishment. This is trying to twist a circumstance for your own advantage. At the expense of someone else. Now look at your life, Friends. Does this happen when you're at a restaurant? Does this happen in social media? Does this happen in a department store? Where does this happen in your life? Let's ask the spirit of Christ. To call this from our lives to enable us to be people of honesty integrity and truth, especially in the way we treat those who are coming along to serve us. Where Jesus thinks that we live in a situation where others can serve us, we have that privilege. Thank you that we can be a servant to others as well. And lord we pray that you would call out of us, remove from us. Every tendency towards exaggeration. That is designed to get more for ourselves or make us the servant of all, like Jesus was. Make us those who were willing to go without so others can have to serve others in bless them so that your name is praised. But enable us to represent you in that way. We ask it in your name, Jesus, our savior, amen..

"Because I think it's so easy to work so hard on something and be so focused on something but how quickly those good things that we work so hard on can be broken down if we're not careful. I really like that. In fact, maybe a good way to end is actually to look briefly at the book of ecclesiastes. In this book, the word that's repeated is the word vanity, which means vapor. Is a better translation. Everything is vapor. Everything is smoke. And if you read it, the preacher that narrates just goes through and points out how every earthly pursuit. Whatever I build, whatever I acquire, is vapor, it disappears eventually, and it can be somewhat a depressing book if you don't catch the other balancing statement, which is stated in chapter three verse 14. I know that whatsoever God doth, it shall be forever. And so what I enjoy most about these proverbs is to me, these are timeless truths that can be practiced to help life go better. And the reason that they do that is because they are truths about godly living. There are things that God would do. Rather than just platitudes from men that might be like vapor or smoke disappearing. So there's a couple just to kickstart your study, you will find many more that are far more personal to you. But thank you for studying with us this week. This was our final mini episode that we will do this season next week. We'll be back with a full study of Isaiah, which we are really excited for. So take care and we'll see you next episode.

"We're looking for like the unexpected, like that's kind of unexpected, like hatred with this beautiful, beautiful meal, it's kind of this comparison that makes it so rich of well and it goes contrary to what we would assume and especially in western culture that the accumulation of more is always better, and if you read the proverbs, it's pretty clear and pretty evident as you're saying that there is danger in more and often, having a little with love and righteousness and humility is better than having more that with hatred or trouble or turmoil. And this one from proverbs 13 I've just got a couple in the same on the same subject. Riches are a ransom for a person's life, but a poor person hears no threat. The other thing I thought is that these are pretty unexpected, but also kind of credible. You know, you can envision them and also it's a test that has been a test for people forever. I think that's why it's one of those things that's very relatable for all of us through the ages when it's talking about this subject. Proverb 30 versus 8 and 9 remove far from me vanity and lies. Give me neither poverty, nor riches. Feed me with food convenient for me. Lest I be full and deny thee and say who is the lord, or lest I be poor and steal and take the name of my garden bane. So our kids are right. Your middle class, if you're a millionaire, then at least according to this proverb, the wealthier you are, the more tempted you might be to deny God and ask who is the lord. And of course we want to have enough to supply for our needs and so it's an unexpected truth, but I think one that's valuable. That made me think of the lord's prayer where Jesus asked for give me this day my daily bread. God you know what I need for this day, and that's all I need. And I think, oh, that's something to really strive for. The one that I found goes with that, I was attracted to chapter 11, the very beginning, the proverb is a false balance is abomination to the lord. But a just weight is his delight. And then it talks more about that balance and the part that I was especially drawn to was in verse 25. Well, first beginning in verse 25. The liberal soul shall be made fat, and he

"I think that goes along with that idea of proverbs are the doing, they're about the hands about how we can do certain actions in our lives. Well, and that thesis is kind of here right at the beginning of the book. In first 7, the fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge. But fools despise wisdom and instruction. And then, of course, the famous verses in proverb three trust in the lord with all thy heart, leaned out onto an own understanding, and all they weighs acknowledge him and he shall direct by paths, be not wise in thine own eyes, fear the lord. And apart from evil. And so the thesis of the book, if there is one, is that there is a practical practice, a practical way to live a God like life. And the beginning of that practice is a respect for God and the commandments and the instructions that he provides us. And that's what the book of proverbs is, a collection of instructions that help us to live that God like life. So I want to share just one thing and then we're going to give just a couple of examples to kickstart your own study of the book of proverbs. There's a book that I haven't read, but was recommended to me, and so I did a little spark note version of the book. The book is called ideas that stick by chipping down heath. And in that book, they identify 6 things that make an idea, an idea that sticks or an idea that actually translates into action or change. On the 6th things are, an idea that sticks is one that is simple, unexpected, concrete, credible, emotional, and is part of a larger story. And if you look at those 6 things, that's exactly what the book of proverbs is. They are simple.

We didn't come back and here we are now coming back after that. We hope you had a good study in psalms for those past three weeks. I think it was kind of a cool pause from everything even just being able to spend that extra time there. And all of that wisdom and just kind of relaxing scripture almost in a way. But this week we are here with studying with you in proverbs and ecclesiastes and we're skipping song of Solomon's act. Do you want to give us do you have any insight into why? Why are we skipping it but come follow me skip the two? I should dig this up.

"All right we are nearing the end. We're in proverbs thirty tonight. I'm gonna be away. I think next. Weekend so wayne's going to preach next weekend we'll figure out what wayne's going to preach for a couple of weeks and then when i got back i'll finish proverbs thirty one and from there is we're going to jump into the new testament and we're gonna go through corinthians so we're just going to go through from from beginning to end so that'll take us that'll take a period of time so i figured since we're going to preach and teach the best way to do that would be through the scriptures. I don't think you can go wrong that way. And also it precludes the pastor from picking and choosing sections that he's more comfortable teaching on because scripture you hitting your all. I'm not sure. I wanna hit that one. And that's i've realized that's cowardly because there's been a few times going through providence. On like ooh ooh that one won't make me popular. But do you know what my job here is. It's not the popular. It's the teacher. Were to god. It's it's the speak and preached the truth. And if that offends you suck it up if that bothers you. That's not my problem. My problem only if i have misrepresented the word of god that's different. We can talk about that. I'll fix it. If i've preached and taught the word of god accurately and it doesn't suit you or doesn't make you happy good because we're here to learn and to grow and if we're going to learn and grow we must be challenged and we must make changes and if we don't know we need to make changes because we've been comfortable whole time. We're not growing. How many of you in your teens having growth pains you guys have that pleasant experience like everything can hurt because you're stretching oil quickly. Yeah things if it never hurts not doing it. Anybody who attends the jim knows the same thing if it never hurts. You're not doing it so proverbs thirty. We're looking at the words of aiyar.

Twenty nine man who hardens his neck after much reproof will suddenly be broken beyond remedy when the righteous increase the people rejoice when wicked man rules people grown man who loves wisdom makes his father glad but he keeps company with highlights wastes his wealth. King give stability to the land justice but a man who takes bribes overthrows it man who flatters. His neighbor is spreading a net for his steps by transgression and evil. "Hope you're all doing well for the few that i've got here and those who will share time with us online. Good to have you here. I would encourage you if you haven't already please give this a share. Because the more people we can share this with blast with it the better we are nearing the end for a few weeks. Away from finishing our walk through the book of proverbs. I've i very much enjoyed this interesting. Because it's every now and again the you come across something that is profound and challenging and then often you're walking through and you're coming across things that are just beautiful playing clearwater of good sense. Have you noticed that. You're picking up from the farms. This wisdom literature is just the clean clear glass of water of good sense. It's like it's it's not flavored. it's not a whole bunch of salt or sugar. It's not anything that's supposed to be super exciting just sustains life that's that's that's the beauty of it it's the it's particularly as the word god is but it's interesting so so he. We continue our journey through the book of proverbs by looking at proverbs. Chapter twenty seven and again as we study the is we do this continually remembering that the wisdom and truth find here is instructive and useful for all who would hear it but is particularly useful in the life of the follower of christ. That's you me. Because it gives us a greater insight into god causes the live in serving an honoring him in this fallen world as we study. God's word we do this seeking to know him more and to better understand how to serve to honor him. So as we look at the word of god we study the word of god as we read the word of god as you read the word of god yourself and your and your evening your morning time we spend some time with the word and you read reading it to to learn to grow but what we're reading to learn is who got his what his character is what he expects from us what he wants from us in how to operate and walk and in the world because one of the beautiful things about the word of god is that the truth is eternal we tend to think and this has been some of the work of the devil to this idea that well old fashioned things go into fashion and then they don't mean anything later on how many of you realize the truth is not a fashion statement that what is true is not a fashion statement so because people say well the old fashioned way of living like old christian people that wasn't old fashioned it was moral and some may have been we may have added some traditional stuff that was a bit bit quirky world stuff back in the dan remember the pentecostal movement. Some of the really staunch like you couldn't be in a movie theater because they were places and pool halls..

"Available options. God bless your day redundant. It's good to see a couple faces tonight hopefully in the next few weeks hopefully we'll be able to see more and more people in so we're improper twenty six tonight. We're getting near the end of our of our series and as we walked through the life is a follower of jesus the challenge for us in how we walk in this world is his servants honoring and representing him. Well the world is a simple place is ever shifting. And it's morals and values and philosophies we live in a time of clashing ideas and fast movements all hiding the true clash of good and evil becoming more united. It's becoming more divided but we have the truth found in the word of god that cuts through these errors in all of this. We are called to live as christians in a fallen world that does not receive respect or love. Jesus we are called to the path that has always been the right path but there's never been the path that was commonly walked by the world as the dark world makes it more difficult to clearly understand or see with our moral compass. We have to do. The work of improving upon that compass and that work is done through the study of the scripture and the growth of understanding the word of god which transforms us as we see. Jesus tonight as we look at proverbs twenty six. We continue learning the wisdom from the teacher as he teaches us. What it means to be a man or woman of god with godly wisdom. Living a life that honors. God you know beginning the beginning of all of our understanding of building the compass within and learning how we should live as believers in digging into on consuming and understanding the scripture. I hear people say well. I don't necessarily understand it. When i read it and i was like you. Show me the tax book you read for the first time that you understood but you got reading it because there was test and eventually began to understand it and that's the same the scriptures. There's some stuff you're gonna have to learn more about as you grow. But the word tells us that the word of god never returns void as we dig into the word of god we grow and as we grow we become more like his image more of what he wants from us. And it's a challenge talking to chris this today the he was saying the first six months when he started coming to church each sunday was like how because the stuff i happened to touch on a sermon..

"Wayne. We're gonna continue with or Series in proverbs. We're on proverbs twenty five today probably gonna read the whole chapter. But we're going pick a few versus out of each section here proverbs. Twenty five starts with. I'm going to start with verse to sue. Glory of god to conceal a matter but the glory of kings is to search out a matter as the heavens for heights and for depth so the heart of kings is unsearchable takeaway. The dross from the silver comes out a vessel for the smith. Take away the wicked before the king and his throwing will be established in righteousness do not claim honor in the presence of the king. Do not stand in a place of great men for his better than it is to be said to you come up here than for you to be placed lower in the presence of the prince when your eyes have seen i two is the glory of god to conceal a matter. The glory of kings is to search out discovery. We gotta discover right down to the nitty gritty small of. It's a bit of a comparison between god and kings. God's knowledge is above all of our human knowledge and his ways are so far above ours that he doesn't need any council from us but worldy kings need to seek out what they need to know and when they get it right. It's a good thing. And that's what this is gloria. The king desserts such a matter and to find it. That's a great thing. An inverse were skipped over six. Do not claim honor in the presence of the king. Do not stand in the place of great men for his better. That be said you come up here and for you to be placed lower in the presence of the prince whom you're is obscene sometimes. It's really good to choose. Humility infront of the king. It's probably not the best time to put on airs. Be all proud and try to make something of yourself that you're not the king or maybe the judge that you're in front of the see.

Anybody who's in charge we can be because we'd all like to their own thing but just continue folks continue to trust continue to pray continue to seek. God we do not look at this and despair as those who don't know who they are who they're made by or who the belong to would do not as one of the great benefits of our faith so as we continue through the book of proverbs we are in proverbs. Twenty four tonight living all the life has never been without challenges in a fallen and sinful world. There's never been a time when it was simple or easy to be free from sin. There was never a time when the same attractive sins weren't available on some form or another deliberate. An informed choices have always been needed in terms of living a life that has godly from the men and women who tried to honor god. This fallen world as we look at proverbs twenty four. We see a reoccurring theme speaking on preparedness. I heard it said back in college days. That failure to prepare is preparing to fail. And you hear that kind of proverb as as an idea here that lots of different ways. I remember when my dad would be work. You build things in his hands but i would say always remember son measure twice cut once and it's the same sort of thing this idea. That preparation is so so important. When you're doing things because if you don't prepare you're putting yourself in a position we're not likely to be as successful as you might be and so we're going to look at that. As an ideas we bunch through proverbs twenty four the evening starting with the section of versus one to ten looking at versus three and i and says this by wisdom houses built and by understanding it is established by knowledge. The rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches versus three or four telling us that structure family or even a dynasty. A nation is built with wisdom in mind wisdom being the right understanding of who we are before god on a proper understanding of what we do with knowledge and employing it in the world and so think of like this were called to act out gain on standing called a gain at the act out the understanding. And we're called to contain knowledge because again. The scripture says there and by understanding by acting out the knowledge that we have by living out the understanding because how many of us how many of us has kids did the things. We knew..

"I like to think of this verse sometimes helps me to remember that. God is in charge. He's in control of not only my life but everything else that's going on in the universe is power and has plans go far beyond my understanding. God says my thoughts are not your thoughts. Neither your ways. My ways as heavens are higher than the earth sore my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts and your thoughts. I don't i like that. He's he's way up here. It was way more than i do. We still have to be responsible. Proverbs twenty thirteen says do not love sleep or you will grow poor. Stay awake and you'll have food to spare some of these verses in proverbs it when i read them. It seems like it's only referring to people that grow crops or something but but we're all responsible for our own accents. Everyday we earn a living family will eat sleep in too many days. You probably won't be able to keep a job and then you don't eat. Do not love sleep. Or you will grow poor proverbs. Twenty four helps us to see the light at the end of the tunnel especially when times are difficult and progress seems hopeless. There's a lot of times on feel as if you've done all that you can put yourself in a position for success. You just you just kinda. Don't see the fruits of your labor and you know if you've done your homework you worked hard taking care of what you have to probably on the right path. It's just that you don't always understand which point of the past that. We're on hold relates. To god's larger plan of where this path is leading. We may have to reconsider. What success means our definition might not be the same as gods my path in life right now is different than i thought would be at this point right here. You know i sit at home. I read a sermon. Stand in front of people. Talk about god and stuff. I'm not an eloquent speaker. Never wanted to be never thought. I would never planned to who god knew. His plan was different than mine. My plan plan is to sit on a warm beach somewhere in the world and watch the waves come in and that was it. That was my plant not much of a plan that but you know god's plans are always always better than our own. The glory of young man is their strength and the honor of old men is gray. Hair young guys are always showing off their. I'll strong yari..

"We are still going through the book proverbs. Which i've been very much enjoying and i think From the comments. I've been getting from some of the people over the the weeks that we've been talking into this. I'm seeing a lot of people picking up a lot through this so today we're looking at proverbs chapter eighteen and as we dig through the god-given wisdom of solomon We were looking in this book. And we're just finding so much you know as we study these. Shoppers is important to remember that the wisdom found here's instructive and helpful for all you hear it. But it's also practically helpful for the life of the follower of jesus and this is because this wisdom gives us greater insight into how god called us to live to serve and to honor him as we walk in this world because the challenge dos believers. It's not it's not. How do we become saved if we if we accepted. Christ if we receive salvation completed work of christ on the cross and that is done and that is finished that a completed work so the challenge to us as believers is. Then how are we to live. How do we walk in this world in such a way as to reflect that we are his sons and his daughters. How do we walk in this world and show him by what we are what we say and what we do. And that's daily challenge. That's daily and moment by moment. It's a challenge because we're not allowed we're not given the opportunity as believers to just be like the world and yet the flash that's in the flash nature that nature within his still remembers the old man and old woman that flash nature always wants to pull us back towards the all habits and yet we are called to hire into further and so chapter eighteen. We're looking at the first section one. Five and i look i two verse two. It says this so the fool does not delight in understanding but in revealing his own mind fool does not delight and understanding what in revealing his own. Mind one of the things that we need to understand as we look. And it's important when we have this discussion the discussion discussions continually contracting the wise man from the fool. And you see this again and again and again and again in the book of proverbs. The contrast between the wise wiseman and the fool and what we're seeing express to your eighteen to fool does not delight in understanding but it delights in revealing his own mind and something to realize about. The fool is that the fool is self centered is self centric and that makes.

"We are followers of christ if we are saved which means if we have accepted the forgiveness bought at the cross and we've turned away from our sin and we're following him if we have lived that truth if we are followers of christ then we must know how to live. Because it's one thing to accept. Jesus how many of you remember the day or the time when you finally made that decision to accept. Jesus you finally made that decision to follow him. And then the next day you looked at your life and you thought so what's gonna be different. Shouldn't some things change. And then it's a process right. It's a process because if you spent especially if you're in your twenties thirties forties you've had a lot years to live the way that you've lived and so the question becomes. How do i change how i live to reflect who i serve. How do i change. How i lived through. Reflect the values that i hold that he has given to me and so we glean pick a lot up by reading through the book of proverbs. And we're in chapter twelve tonight. We're going to start one to five and it says this whoever loves this flin loves knowledge but whoever hates reproof is stupid. A word you don't often see. In the scripture a good person wins favor from the lord but the schemer he condemns nor does made secure by wickedness. But the root of the just will never be disturbed. A woman of worth is the crown of her husband. But our disgraceful one is like rottenest bones and the plan of the just arrived. The plans at the justice right. The designs of the wicked are deceit. So how we've been doing this in the last few weeks we read through some of these scriptures. I pick out some of the points that i think. Bear a little more explanation because some of these we read. And you're like i've seen that. Yeah that makes sense pours pretty clearly and then some of them need a little bit more of a teasing out. And so the first one i saw was just in chapter one right away our verse one right away says whoever loves discipline love knowledge but whoever hates reproof is stupid. I got stuck on that because often the bible calls people stupid. I was like ouch direct. That's kind of a hard one. What saying is that if we love disciplined we love knowledge you see what is the purpose of discipline. What is the purpose of discipline. What you have kids many of us have kids or you have recently been a kid. One of the other. Usually you have kids. Why do you discipline your kids. What's the point. What does the purpose is it. Because you're angry at them. You want to hurt them like what are we. What are we doing. Are we disciplining them just to give them the smack in the but or the firm wave of the finger or are we correcting them. The purpose of discipline is correction. And so what the scripture is saying. Is that if we love discipline which is to say that. We have a regard for discipline so that we are capable of being disciplined. We also love knowledge because if you are someone who can be disciplined you are someone who can and will grow and we chatted about this even last week. The idea that if you've ever hired a work with someone who would not be told..
