"Gary mcnamer, he's our curly. Good morning. Welcome to a Thursday. All over the place Thursday. Yeah It was sad yesterday to hear Tina singer Tina Turner died. 83 years old. Yeah. Which means, you know, I think about when she made her comeback in the 80s. Yeah. And she was in her 40s. And I remember that, she's so old, and she's coming back. Well, I was in my 20s, so it was like, oh yeah, she's old. Now 40 year old rockers are commonplace. 50 year old Rogers. That's it. 80 year old rockers are coming place. Somebody, I don't know if it was, I can't remember if it was a stand up or maybe a late night joke or something, Tina Turner turned 42 today, but her legs are only 25. Yeah, exactly. And she made me sweat. Yeah. And. The belt, she could belt out her scream, would capture the moment I was telling you during the top of the hour break. One of my favorite songs to hear her sing. Is the duet she did with Brian Adams. It's only love. Which hit the top 40. It was on Brian Adams album. But she owned that room. I mean, that was all her. I all do respect to Brian Adams. If you're going to do a duet with Tina Turner, you have to know. And I'm sure he would say this. You give the stage over to her. You come to the second place. Interesting because you and I just, we just during the top of the hour started talking about it. And it was funny because I was thinking about it all day. I said, well, how can I, how can I say this? It's not an insult. But she had one of the best and you used it screaming. Singing voices. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I remember when I could say fogerty, but it was actually CCR. When they came out with proud Mary. And it was like, oh, that's a really good song. And then it was a year and a half later, two years later, as a kid, Tina Turner came out with it. I can Tina Turner. Well, I mean, it wasn't even the same song. Yeah, right. And she just absolutely, at the end, the build up to the end of that song. Was just unbelievable. And she crossed, I mean, there are some artists that, you know, they say, well, they're rock or their country, or R&B, or they're soul or she was Tina Turner. She had her own genre. Yeah. There was no genre. She just had that kind of talent. That kind of voice where it was like, oh no, that's Tina Turner. Well, what kind of music is it? Tina Turner. It's all of it. You know, it is so R&B, rock. You know, deliver a ballot. The thing was trying when she did the Mad Max soundtrack. We don't need another hero. Yeah. It's kind of a power ballad thing. But I heard it the other day, it wasn't a couple of weeks ago. And I thought, man, that song. I mean, stands along from the movie. You know it's great when they can stand alone from the movie. You don't need to couple it with the movie. Right. I mean, sorry, Ray Parker, junior, but the song Ghostbusters, it is always going to be about the movie. But I mean, it's very tough not to. It's the name of the movie. But it had so much, I mean, it was just, it really stood along stood out. And I thought to myself, it's hard with her energy. It must be and I think impossible as a listener is a fan, to contain her within a ballot. Now, there are some great ballots, but I mean, you need to know that that energy is going to be the same as the proud Mary, which is going 500 beats per minute. And that energy is going to be you're still going to look at that and go, wow. And it really is about delivering the emotion. It was funny because we had left Tina turnaround when a couple of weeks ago we were talking about. And I forgot how we how the topic related. It was related to something, but we were talking about how the members of heart and Nancy Wilson were talking about the sexism and the radio industry. And I said, well, it might have been in the radio industry, it wasn't from us, and then we started going to the fans didn't. I started going through the fact that I was, I never discriminated against women artists and I talked about going back to even Motown with Diana Ross and some of the great female singers there that really caught your attention, and she was one of them. Right. And so there was never, I mean, I never had the record, the liberal record business might have been sexist, but I don't think the listening audience ever was. And she was one of those voices

Everybody knows proud Mary and what a wonderful reading that she did of that song. She kind of rode that edge where she just seemed like she was going to go out of control, but she was always supremely in control. What have we lost and how do you see her influence today on other performers? She's somebody who's symbolic importance is as important as her artistic importance. So many women who have been in difficult relationships and struggled took her as a model and when you watch Taylor Swift suddenly on stadium after stadium, young artists like that, having that level of success as women artists, they all owe a debt to Tina Turner. "Singer Tina Turner has died after a long illness at her home near Zürich Switzerland, according to her manager, Turner was 83. And marches are a letter with a look at her career. Tina Turner's life was a roller coaster, hit songs in the 1960s, leaving an abusive marriage, becoming a superstar in her 40s and having her life turned into a hit movie. From the rose to stardom with the act started by her ex-husband Ike and her classic proud Mary. Left a good job in the city, but it was not until decades later that she revealed that relationship was plagued by abuse. Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frazier says Turner blossomed when she got away from the abusive Ike Turner. The second half of her career because in the first half it was just this groundbreaking artist in this music that everybody loved and second half, I think that people saw or survivor who was doing things on her terms. So you know, Turner died peacefully at her home near Zürich Switzerland today after a long illness, she was 83. A year ago today, Veronica mata lost her ten year old daughter test to a mass shooting at an elementary school and Yuval, Texas. 'cause it's like teen is on her deathbed and she's far away but we're not outing and this is We're repeating information that is publicly out there. So it's not we're not outing in fact we're saying this is probably unlikely we're just acknowledging that this information exists. These are people that there's no one has come up to me said i have the receipts May not it's unlikely to be true. But one thing that actually did happen is jimi hendrix. Gotta start playing with mike turner and the rock rhythms of observer kings of rhythm And was let go because he kept wanting to experiment and use many effects pedals which at the time period were not grounded causing all technical problems during the shows and when tina turner was actually very close friends in real life with janice joplin. And you know a when jimi hendrix and janice joplin died shortly around the same time period is documented that that everybody was very heartbroken beaten cousin that now the other wonderful rumor that dug up is that tina turner was into body building. And i think they're they're confusing her saxophonist. Mike capello the one who does ike turner's voice in the remake of proud mary as the bodybuilder. That's all greased up in the lost boys with his hair pulled back and he's kind of fucking the saxophone. I guess people rumors saying that. She was into body building and for a brief time in the eighties. You steroids anabolic steroids. Buff and in shape. You highly unlikely but you know we talked to. What was it. Haiti retro age and she does a combination. I know other women that do a combination of testosterone and estrogen replacement. Therapy as they get older you know because it helps keep their body intact. But do you think that tina turner was doing like estrogen replacement. Therapy back in nineteen eighty-four. I know i know definitely that women were doing estrogen replacement. Back in the day so maybe on the forefront out there. My one friend's mother said she her friends like capturing more youthful appearance because she did estrogen replacement she chose not to do it and so she felt like a kind of age to a bit and the last but not least that her buddhism are passionate for buddhism. Her discovery buddhism came from her cocaine dealer. That's great 'cause you know most most drug dealers they're just like you. You want another kilo thing. They're not going to give you a brochure. Like buddhism might change your life. So thank you arlene. Well she has. Tina turner has singles out their own with kyko or cayo who remix. What's love got to do with it. He also remixed her chanting. So there's like a house remix of her which is really fantastic. A drug dealer would probably also maybe have a buddhist kind of mentality as well..

It's gonna be mariah and that's going to be great and you're going to be very happy you are going to be feeling some emotion. I did not know tina. Turner turner solo. Finally so this. I mean this is also like a technicality where they had just said well she's in with mike that's the sixties output proud mary. That's river deep mountain high. That she's in and that's fine. Felt more seen or heard by the rock and roll hall of fame nominating committee than i do in this moment because i will see three years ago two and a half years ago i brought up to those people i said what about tina turner solo. She's linked forever to her abuser. And they all were like our they literally said what about ike solo literally said what about solo. And now you look at two years later. She's on the ballot and she's going in baby. There's no fucking way she's not going. There is no way podium has just materialized in front just can't believe i am so american flag drop. She's going right in she is she is number one there is. She has a better shot. she's going to get the most votes and then jay z is gonna also. She's not getting in mary. J. blige is not getting in mary. J. those nice that they recognize gb. What if this is okay. Hold on let me just think about this. What if this is the divas year. What if you could put together a full devi year like especially because carole king was part of the divas in that for the first h one divas. You could have tina carole king dionne warwick chaka. Khan mary j. blige that could be your whole class. But then you could also fuck. Throw the go. Go's be they're back on this great. I was positive the last review was going to be dangelo. Did you not nope. I thought that he wouldn't have saved it for me. I was like there's one final thing that i was just like. I thought it was gonna be mariah. I'm surprised that she's not nominated. I i honestly am. But i am still pleased as hell. Dangelo is gonna get nominated. No i didn't. I like this was kind of going to be like. I feel like. I took a groundswell. I'm glad that you brought it up because it a different life thousand the wine business co winery. We built it from scratch. Thirty thousand cases the whole shebang. We did everything and it seemed back then and this is twenty years ago. That one really had to go to some length to get the best wide. Open it properly air. It store it the right way. Pump it blah. It was just so complicated and expensive that it turned off casual consumers who would rather just like crack a beer. So i was going to get into with you guys sort of whether there is a parallel in the gourmet coffee world or or is it just sort of a simple is. If if you don't wanna get complicated with coffee you can always just get your fix dunkin donuts and that's fine. I think what's happened man. I mean especially coffee. Industries at one of industry's pretty small and it makes a little noise which is cool minutes definitely like ruffled feathers like the the big con companies in the industry and starbucks biggest playa shift skis end. I cannot like to appear really special nauseam n. I think that says the attention that especially has received in the last ten years and automated like we. We want to see the doctor coffee. We want to see people pay what it's worse you gotta get electric Gratitude all's fine. You can get a fire. Bikes ancient grains salad is not going to be to all this is gonna be more normal ten and the different each huge different things. Still co bread. But one's going to be good feed once not gonna leave you feeling so good afterwards. Coffee has at spectrum too where it can be pretty mediocre at best and But it can go raw credible. Being wine wine has two hundred twenty chemical.

Nope because there was there was a couple of paces michigan mistrial market and a guy that went to work for and he's gone onto this amazing success story and nolan worked for his business and Within the first couple of weeks is islets. There's something together because i brought coffee component. And he had this incredible restaurant experience and really good friday and anyway we often did lie. Lie and the deal was there was three of us. I had no money. But this is the thing. And i want to kind of encourage people. Him in money is not. It's it's not like sign. It should be a barrier even though it feels incredibly heavy daria and i've had a lot of people that use it works for me that when i left that will okay. I'm going to remind being a site off. And i wanna i want money talk to my business response to that was like well let Feel because if you're gonna save up to the you're busy How long have you take. How about how about you to stop with a really good concept. If you'll concept. Is that pretty good. People are going to believe in you and you'll have access to what you need to get it going. It's more about like really knowing one of these that you're going to do and i had a really clear vision about what we're headed to bring to the community in melbourne and nicer than could really say that. So he three. This i'd money. The goal was The budget fifty thousand dollars. Australia at that are willing to put in this trump people. We do everything ourselves it was. "Of equipment. You could possibly get your hands on for coffee and it was like you know what the theory was. Just listening to let the equipment fat. Let's have the best tools we possibly can do the job right. And then let's go and find the best coffee on the planet and just learn how to Were the magic out of the best that we've also leak in and saw this big dog and Expiration onto one. It's possible in every time. I kept feeling back eliah. It was like holy crap. We've been let's do another one and honestly man the amount of money that we happily through at the unknown exploring like what if we what if we build this and i had some fun inventing things and doing stupid ideas light with that work and Definitely blue atomic cash but sometimes man we caused a new path that no one so coming and Some have it continues to happen with coffee hasn't it hasn't of that hasn't Stopped we have a lot to learn about and it feels like the wine industry twenty years ago There's a lot greis to happen. And it's super exciting to be in the industry with twenty two years. I just want to say that like we do on on into the cafe. Befall was like a ton of scrounged gathering money in pot and she end while nolan was doing these crazy ideas. I'm the one like we both. Don't have business de grace. We've just kind of fell into it so it was a real. It was a real fight on. But it's kind of one of the things that i think when you know you wanna do something and you can have like a really big impact. We something as real as coffee. Which is the paypal. The coffee farmers. And that's what keeps you going able win stuff gets really so. Let's go back to that. That period of time. You said a minute ago nolan that that you had a business that gave you the leg-up right. Yeah so by that. You mean it gave you the the Financial sort of breathing. Take the risk right. But if the risk failed you guys are in a world of hurt. Right sure yet. So what was that like. What was that period of time when you when you decided you know all the money that we've that we've sort of accrued is going to go into this next venture yet right and so if we make it awesome if we don't not so awesome. Yeah so i mean. I'm just thinking back some memories on this it often. I can remember before. Mating shari and this is getting pissed and all but I was engaged with your name. Shoddy and which is kinda funny nine dislike data but a parents will guys parents were like He's not educated and hasn't got his degrees in Hasn't studied university gone for that. It pissed me off. I was lying man so judgmental that i'm not going to be any good for someone because i'm not educated. Fuck this and i knew How much of an opportunity will sit in front of me up. I could feel it almost well before it happened to the point that i had a really big set of confidence behind what i was doing and when so i actually went into a coffee competition in western australia Came second in the wis destroying chance round the on that may shower nets and then and then ended up winning the competition the following year and that was kind of as a barista..
