"We have a voluntary system because that's what we can agree to says Alice hill, a former special assistant to president Barack Obama, who worked on climate resilience. What's the alternative? The story was reported by Simon Mott Lake for the monitor. Many companies have put short term profit over long-term values. A Facebook whistleblower says no one in her former company was malevolent. But the misalignment of incentives, she and others say, has led to social Discord. Facebook, the social media behemoth with more than 2.8 billion users worldwide has been weathering storms of criticism ever since founder Mark Zuckerberg began it as an online project connecting college students in 2004. But the 17 year old company, which also includes Instagram and WhatsApp and their billions of global users is now confronting an unprecedented level of scrutiny after a former Facebook employee secretly copied tens of thousands of pages of the company's internal research. These appear to show that company has been well aware that its platforms contribute to a host of social ills, even as its profits reach new heights. This trove of private information, which has been dubbed the Facebook papers, reveals how the company's own studies found its platforms damage the well-being of teenage girls, how its algorithms sees on human rage and foment the spread of misinformation and civic strife. And how it has enabled human trafficking and ethnic violence in countries in which it does little to moderate content. As a result, Congress, federal regulators and a consortium of news organizations have been combing through these documents as lawmakers consider how to rein in the company's outsized influence in the flow of global information. This story was reported by Harry brunius.

"Just put in wayne you normally commute you tell it so. The other part is that now all of our Cdot cameras are available at as well so you can if You wanna go you know. It says there's a delay at this one thing. You could actually go onto that camera and see okay. Is it really delayed. Or how bad is it. 'cause i might push it and try to go So you know This'll be really helpful. Especially during the snow season you'll be able to suppose conditions or like in areas where you got we driving And of course. We have our snowplough tracker. That's on there too so you can see when the snow plows have been through your area of the you know you gotta a good route drive on and will they alert us to them by names like plowing mcplainface be. The named plows will be on the website yet. It's also got something called a tell me function. I haven't even gone through all the functionality of this tell me function and this is on that new cdot. Travel app allows hands free use. Always a good thing. the apple actually announces upcoming conditions and incidents that you might encounter along your route or in the area. Yeah actually and you can also do audio inputs as well. So that's a good. That's a good feature so you can find out what's going on in this area that little two way communication. They're exactly the other the other audience that we don't get to talk to us is our trucker audience and so there's actually a separate side of the website that is all for truckers so it will tell them what weight restrictions with restrictions. If there's you know a trucker trying to get a detour and it tries to send it up. Independence path and the apple. Tell you a new. You don't wanna go that way. So wouldn't armed. Yeah so this is. It's really cool. We've got a lot of good feedback from our trucking audience They they are a huge component of what we do and and outreach that we try to get to so the fact that we can actually tailor this them is fantastic and for the regular audience. Just doesn't care about a weight restriction or with restrictions We'd you can have. It is a completely separate peace so Yours is a lot more team as it were there. You go all right one. Ask you about this. Came cross this piece in his west by ken. Asmundsson just popped up at twelve thirty five eighty m Saying that cdot has filed this eminent domain action in weld county district court seeking to gain title to property along with easement says it continues to expand twenty-five in northern colorado. Now the action that was filed apparently is against i twenty five gateway center. Lc r. m. e. petroleum company and r. m. e. land corporation. Along with the town of johnstown. Which may have the easement in the area of the properties in question are at i twenty five and highway sixty. What can you tell us about that so. I don't know a whole lot of the details. Because i. I kinda got cute into this yesterday. But i will tell you when we when we go to look at acquiring property for a right of way when we're expanding roadway like we're doing right now so give you a little bit of the process. So essentially what happens is the first step. Is we do a an assessment and tell them what we believe. The property is worth they then can go get another assessment which we paid for To see if there might be a You know there's things that we missed and then we bring those two together and basically say here's this. Here's this now. Sometimes that process can take awhile and the the you know if we have not heard from them for a while or whatever. And i'm not saying that particularly happened in this incident incident but it does happen quite a bit where they will fit on it for almost a year And then back and say wait actually should be this much. Well it got valued that much because of the year later down the road and so that's part of those things that have to get figured out and that kind of comes out the eminent domain discussions in so we. We try to avoid eminent domain. Which is us being able to go in and basically take it and pay them. Wh what is fair value We try to avoid that. In fact i would say probably ninety nine point nine percent of our acquisitions are dealt with very happily in and all that but when you can't come to an arrangement basically we have to kind of go okay. Let's let somebody else look at this and figure it out and that's really what the imminent domain process is all about letting the courts kind of come in and say this is actually what that value should be and then we all come to an agreement and that's where it goes all right now not to get contentious here but when i deserve this morning got a text from someone who does live in johnstown saying gee it would have been nice if the town of johnstown major excuse me. Local contributor funding for i twenty five would have been told by c. dot that it was going to be sued. Uh this is all very very well known by the way All of this comes. They knew all of this because this was actually in Before we can go to any eminent domain that has to get approved by the transportation commission which was done last month. So they've they've been in the process from the very beginning. All of these folks have been through this process in the beginning and and a lot of people actually just prefer to do it this way and then let the courts figure out what that what that value should be. So i guarantee you. It was not a surprise to any of the landowners. What's that much let's see. And that's why we love to have jared files cdot region caissons manager on so that we can Dispel any questions or any ambiguity says the case may be but apparently the parcels that are now in question and follow the bouncing ball. Here with me are in. The vicinity of properties sought in eminent domain proceedings filed back in march in those cases the court gave cdot immediate access to the properties and well it seems as though all parties involved are still dithering over valuations and and that happens with a lot of our process as that know. And that's really that's why you have your day in court and that's how that all works out so it's still it can still be getting figured out for a while. That's that's part of our regular right away process now again. I don't know about these specific right parcels. And all of that. So i'm i'm kinda talking in generalities more than anything else. So it could be called eminent domain light and i mean eminent domain is very rarely used. I mean honestly are it's it's usually comes down to a right of way acquisition And some of that is Areas that we just need a route to get to a road for during construction so we only temporarily and then he goes back to landowner so there are different ways that we acquire property during that time but Really this is. It's it's kind of the last line of defense but a lot of times that's where the landowner wants to be because they don't trust anybody else and they're going to let the courts decide perfectly fine..

"House slipped lindop fencing words eight thirty nine now. Northern colorado's voice one three one ten. Kfi gay mornings with gail. The auto collision specialists studios lives to talk about when it comes to the highways and my ways throughout the northern colorado and beyond jared files cdot region for communications manager ways in this morning. Hey jarrett good morning gail. I'm doing great. I realized. I should've told ryan we should have had like John cougar's to win the walls come crumbling down. 'cause we've had some bridges that we've been going down and it's pretty dramatic. I don't know if you've been on. I twenty five recently but You can kind of see that destruction and demolition crews been out Out at highway sixty. We've been doing some work. We're going to do some more coming up tonight. from nine. Pm to five am Highway sixteen be closed and I twenty five track. Traffic will be going on me. Overpasses the on and off ramps so you have a little bit slow and go there and then on This weekend we're going to be doing their character bridge The other side the northbound side of the catcher bridge the southbound side during last weekend and You know that detour is going to be a little wonky so Just know that if you need to go from nine. pm. On friday to five am on saturday or Same times on. Saturday and sunday It's gonna be a little slow that way you might want to get around twenty five. Can't sounds like a plan a little creative destruction there. I can't help those well. It could be described that way because the roads are gonna be so much better. As a result of a little as i'm fond of saying hitch are giddy up and getting around all of this. But i can't help but think that those employees that are bringing these bridges down or just having a ball kinda cool highway sixty team. They actually Shot video and so if you signed up for our Email updates every week. We actually have a link to the video in there From highway sixty devolution. From last weekend or last week. I mean so it's I i think it looks like a little fun but you know what's amazing to me is how much work it takes to take him. He's us because these things are engineered. You know to last forever. And so Yeah it takes quite a bit To bring him down it is not an easy feat to say the least and you wanted to be out controlled. Implosion may be. So you need to gather using. They're not using many. They're not explosives there. Actually if you watch their kind of jack hammering into each of the joints and that's kind of what makes go ball apart. Yeah yeah. I actually. When i was in west virginia and this was like back when dinosaurs roamed the earth but it was my first out of college and there was a corning glass plant that they brought down and that was the scene. The crowds gathered row. Yeah watch this come down. Because it's from i mean even if you're not necessarily engineering's savvy it's fascinating to watch. Oh come on watching stuff blow up only no ours are a little more boring but a little more control. Well thank you for that point of clarification. There all right. Let's talk a little bit about that. The new cdot travel appa touch about this yesterday in advance of our conversations morning. Jared and i think it's gonna be a great tool for all of us including truckers. I kind of gave a little preview last week but it actually got unveiled last at the end of last week and so this is our new coach trip apps. So you There's two ways to get to. You can go to the regular website which is co trip dot. Org and you will see all the new features on there but you can also download the app and that is available on all the different download sites the key the key to finding go. I have to tell people his put in code trip planner. Yeah don't put in c dot colorado road conditions even just coach trip because other people have kind of tagged themselves in that and so other stuff comes up Some of those sites Some of those apps actually make charge or urging for him and and ours is a free app but The this app is pretty impressive. We had an apple allow back And it just say it had mixed results Along with our website side of things is gonna make. I love the euphemism mixed results for a while. Let's just say that i knew. Okay we're we're all out Honesty and transparency. Here's well this is really cool. It does offer you turn by turn instructions Which we haven't had before and Just like before but a little bit cleaner and works a little bit. Better is the planner process. so Like for you gail going. If you're going from loveland to to greeley every day you can put in that route and when you go and it will send you alerts by text or however you wanna get them Win there is an action or a delay on that route. Normally take during the time that you take that sterling alert if you are you know if it's three am because you're not well you actually probably. Oh you know what i mean. If you're not on the road during that time it won't send you those alerts. Only you only get doing it During your normal commute tax. That's pretty cool. Now you know technology being what it is. Some of us luddites among us might say. That's a little creepy. But now but it's it's real time. It's it knows when you're on the road. Yeah and and i mean it's a convenience factor so you don't get all you don't care if there's a delay when you're on the road so that that helps.

"For passenger and freight rail it would be the biggest investment. The federal government has made in railroads since amtrak was founded nineteen seventy-one one but a good chunk of that money might go to just one ten mile stretch of track the gateway project connecting new jersey and new york city. That's giving rail enthusiasts mixed feelings. Marketplace's matt levin reports more than two hundred thousand. Passengers rode the rails between new jersey and penn station every day before kovac's at through a tunnel damaged by hurricane. Sandy the gateway is the most important rail projects currently ongoing. Sean jeans gaels with the rail passengers association. The problem is the price up to thirty billion. Not all of that. Tab is on the feds but overall the northeast corridor. Could gobble up a big chunk of those new rail dollars. You cannot have a national program that spends the vast majority of money in northeastern states. Nyu transit researcher along levy adds that new york should ask why it's transit. Projects are so expensive often. it is Three white collar supervisors doing the job of one. The infrastructure bill allocates a fresh one hundred. Ten billion to roads and bridges rail advocates. The bottom line is they have chosen Ridership over coverage. But they have confused the public into believing that ridership is the big deal, and it's not the big deal. Zenobia Joseph is a title six public transit advocates. She believes people of color would be better served by transit coverage, having routes go through neighborhoods instead of the more frequent service along major thoroughfares that cap Metro has emphasized since 2018 Back. Then the agency changed or eliminated a bunch of local routes. It was sold to us on every bus that it would bring more frequent, more reliable and better connected service. Every bus had it. The media played it, and then they delivered infrequent, unreliable, disconnected service and more ways for people to get fired if they lived in North East Austin. At Metro says the 2018 changes helped some people of color access more frequent service. But the agency's own data reveals some pretty big disparities and ridership. For example, Metro rapid buses have disproportionately white ridership. And ridership on the Red Line. The commuter rail that goes from Leander to downtown is 70% white. That's why Zenobia Joseph is skeptical of project connect the $7 billion transit investment approved by voters. That plan emphasizes light rail and bus rapid transit. And most of it in central Austin, where real estate is not getting any cheaper. It's really just a documentation game. It looks good on paper, and unless the Federal Transit Administration comes and does a field investigation, it's easy to fool them into believing that All is well and good in Austin because the media says everybody's moving here and, hey, we need mass transit..

Struggling Airlines Confront Long-Haul Crew Taboo

"Up from reuters. Struggling airline's confront long-haul crew tabu. That's a kind of a great it. Serve a rhyming. Article title Max t what's this all about. It's about money as are many of the things that we talk about related to Changes at the airlines This is not putting the You know the the dime pay for the bathroom You know thing that we've talked about the airplane. They're talking about something bigger and more important. The pilots article starts out. Do long-haul pilots really need to pilots at the controls. All the time which i'm sure airplane management is going. Heck no. I mean think how much money we could save so Reuters has reported that Airbus in hong kong carrier cathay pacific are working a system to allow just one pilot on the flight deck. When at cruise altitude on long-haul flights currently long-haul flights have three or four pilots Usually two in the cabin in two resting at any given time. And i guess what they're saying is why have two in the cabin. When you're sitting up there at flight level. Three six zero possibly could go wrong. Airbus has something they called project. Connect and under that Effort they hope to certify the eighth three fifty for these single pilot operations again doing high-altitude cruise. When you read the article i.
