"Add progressive dot com Let's rewind to this past weekend in the moments after Florida was upset by Texas A and I'm on the road. This is what Florida coach Dan Mullen had to say about fans. Crowd was certainly a factor in the game. I say that I know are governor past that role, so certainly hopefully the university administration besides the Let us pack 100% cause that crowd was a game and so I certainly hope our university administration follows the governor governor has passed a rule that we're allowed to pack the swamp. We have 90,000. Want to give us that home field advantage in Texas A and M and Mullen losing detective saying, But looking ahead to the showdown with Ella's you and despite the pandemic, wanting 90,000 fans in the swamp. Just four days later on Tuesday. Florida pauses all of its team activities for football, the schools, shutting things down after the football program players, coaches personnel. Have had 19 positive tests recently. Even if the shutdown hadn't happened are Paul Finebaum, saying a full house at the swamp Justice is going to happen? He was overreacting to a stinging loss. Zubin. What's interesting is I think the last time they played there two weeks ago, it wasn't even full in terms of the 22% or whatever they're allowing. So I'm not sure it would be full anyway. But coaches air like this. I mean everyone in public life where there's politicians or coaches. They're playing to their constituencies as we see every day. And Dan Mullen was tryingto tell his constituency back in Florida. We lost this game because The crowd was loud now that is patently absurd. I totally agree with you on that. And now with 19 positive tests, the Gators hitting the pause button on football activities, ESPN analysts Greg McElroy and Joey Galloway. This is what we're dealing with. Right now. We're seeing NFL games moved around and played on different days like a Tuesday or being canceled and shut down. We've seen other colleges have to postpone or cancel game. So this is just part of what we're dealing with. And it is just now hitting the University of Florida, so it's sort of like you expect a lot of schools to go through. This is just this is the week that Florida's going through this It's standard. I mean, we just have to be comfortable with the fact that there will be positive test, but we have to also mitigate the spread. And I think if you look at Florida this is a precautionary measure out of an abundance of caution, and they have done a great job. I think identifying issues within their own program and saying, Hey, look, we got to figure this out, and we cannot provide a safe environment at this moment to tee it up in practice here on a Tuesday, so I think it's good that they talk with text saying them. They talk with the SEC and, of course talk with the opponent for Saturday. Being L s u, But it is troubling in his problematic but it is also part for the course here in 2020. Knowing the challenges the season presents Florida, saying they will reevaluate later today, Rise and grind with Keyshawn J Willin Zubin College football this morning in Texas A and M coach Jimbo Fisher will join the show just after eight Eastern time thinking of having fans in the stands. The Saints could be on the move. The mayor of New Orleans, repeatedly declining the Saints desire to have limited capacity in attendance at the Super Dome. "Available at progressive dot com or one eight hundred progressive and Twentieth Century, Fox with widows four women decide to pull off a heist to pay back the debt their husbands left behind in the new thriller from the writer of gone girl, and the director of twelve years a slave widows in theaters Friday, this is morning edition from NPR news. I'm Rachel Martin. And I'm David Greene. And now we have a story about a young African American boy who grew up with two mysteries. One was his grandmother's old suitcase. It was full of stuff. She shared with no one the other mystery was about the boy's grandfather who died before he was born the boy grew into man and the suitcase became his after his grandmother died when he opened it his journey of discovery took off and Connecticut public radio's David Roche picks up the story from here f e pain was the only person who knew what was inside that suitcase. Not even her three children had a clue but one day her grandson, David McGee about nine at the time got a glimpse she was actually going in for something else. But I saw that pitcher and I asked what was it? And it was a mother and her father, and it just disappeared. She's zipped up the suitcase wouldn't say anything else about it. She died about twenty years ago. David got that suitcase, but it sat in his basement gathering dust for years. I had to be emotionally ready to open this up. And so at some point years later, I opened it up. When he opens the blue faded leather and denim suitcase. The hit you it has it has that musty smell to it inside is treasurer, not gold and silver. But something else something priceless. Here is something that came from president Truman at the time in regards to his service, the suitcases full of information about David's grandfather sergeant willy f Williams he'd served in Europe during World War Two died in Germany years before David was born and nobody ever talked about him, including David's grandmother. The suitcase was started with. Documents that were sent to her from the military in continue to grow until the data for data. There are photos commendations and medals Western Union telegrams. His grandfather had penmanship that bordered on artistry. He drew cross sections of German bombs and meticulous trucking maps. Here's that Matt tracing his route from Belgium into Germany, he folds up the map, then pulls out a handwritten letter sergeant Williams wrote it to his wife from somewhere in Germany, darling. Wife while thinking of you today. I thought I David learned that his grandfather served in an African American unit engine ammunition explosives David also learned that he died in an explosion. But one thing he didn't learn where his grandfather was buried. So he turned to more Batard research, tools, the internet. It wasn't long before he and his wife were on a plane flying nearly four thousand miles across the Atlantic Ocean on Memorial Day. On this warm all day in the Netherlands historian Viga. Cure kills walks through the American military cemetery in Margarethen, it's a city a few miles west of Germany barge oak, tree flanked, the path as she winds through a sea of crosses and stars of David an American flag waves in the distance L leaves on the grass. And that's all in between. Eight thousand sweet one hundred and one marble gravestones among the dead or a hundred and seventy two African American soldiers killed during World War. Two Americans helped to liberate the Netherlands from the Nazis in nineteen Forty-five Necas looking for one specific grave here. The number of the. Yes. This is the right one. She continues walking between the headstones minutes later. She finds the one she's looking for. We are standing in front of the gravestone of Williams Williams. David mcgee's grandfather sergeant Williams was killed in June of nineteen Forty-five in varied here in Margarethen a little known piece of history that David discovered when he turned on his computer and typed in his grandfather's name. He found a website called black liberators of the Netherlands. It was Mika carols project. She started the site to learn about the black soldiers buried their military records have a code to indicate the soldiers race. But beyond that, there's not much else beacon knows about them. It's hard to get more information. Because a lot of records were kept by veterans organizations in most didn't allow black members in those days. People should know that history keeps out things that are not fitting in at the time to histories written. Her website includes the soldiers names, and where they're from. But Mika wants their stories. She's only been able to get information on a handful of them. David suitcase, though offers a window to one. Solar story. So at least his service won't be lost to history. You have to really understand the African American experience. And know that part of history is missing. And that's why this project is so important to me because. It's now being told and the Netherlands these stories are also being kept alive. David grandfather's grave has a caretaker a local couple, Jan just meets. They never met sergeant Williams but visit the site on special occasions in lay flowers, and when they die their daughter will take over all eight thousand three hundred one American graves Margarethen are adopted by Dutch families. It's something David never expected to know that. Gene in Josh meets have been tending to his grave knowing that others. Are being tended to the same way is. It's hard to put into words when David visited this meets his home. He found a framed photo of his grandfather sergeant Willie Williams on display next to this meets his own children as if he were.
