"Okay. Meeting in person is okay. But i love the hybrid idea and that not only okay. I think it's a great idea. Yeah and just you know again. We we listened to our members we follow with data says and fifty one percent of members that we surveyed in july of twenty twenty one Expressed that they preferred hybrid meeting format. That we've just discussed here. Another sixteen percent of members prefer bni online permanently so in my role in our team. You know the the findings there is really exciting. Two thirds of the membership one online or a hybrid. What a couple of years i know. And you know that's We'll continue to poll our our members and you continue to to be at the forefront of understanding what it is that they want and you know our team will go Act on that to to provide a valuable experience. So what are some of the reasons why people some people prefer online. Yeah we again through surveys. We learned that this saves time in money for franchisees for directors for members. You're not having to battle a commuter traffic jams or anything once a week And of course the flexibility that the offering has a you express that you've been traveling around as it is safe to do so yourself ivan. You leverage me an eye on line. Two to tune into your chapter meetings from wherever you are And you know it's just become really extremely efficient with time and costs ultimately and we've seen in some areas that inviting visitors is more effective as the visitor. Themselves doesn't have as much travel commitment. So these are a few reasons why many members do prefer online and we will continue to explore that. So let's stop for a moment. We've got another minute or so about the hybrid meetings to me. It's the best of both worlds. Because one of the things that i didn't like about zoom meetings or about online meetings is that you don't you don't see people three dimensional. You don't see all their body language. You can't shake cans a person. You might not be able to shake hands right now either but you know some point. We'll be back to that and it's just not as personal So getting you know having one of those a month to me fills that void and then the simplicity and the ease of not having to get up get Prepare yourself professionally to get in a car and then drive whatever distance to a meeting. It just saves a ton of time and so that combination to me is such a win win and it's it's something that we couldn't have done ten twenty years ago absolutely. It is definitely that best of both worlds. I always say that the in person format is great for those that like business cards and handshakes and the online format is great for those the like to leverage the power of networking from their their home or Or elsewhere you anywhere. They're busy life takes them so it's really an exciting offering that we are really proud of and and really think we'll have a positive impact on the future vienna while i know you have a lot of member. "On being able to just do that effectively. Yeah i think a lot of people don't recognize under. I join be an eye as to how much better. They're going to be at introducing themselves to other people to explaining to other people what it is that they do and what their benefits are. And i think it's If it's absolutely a benefit that isn't thought of and the friendships are either until he's been in for a while and then it becomes a major issue. Yeah i mean kind of anecdotally. I was at a few months ago. With a realtor that i met at a a keller williams like mastermind and i met a couple and the husband worked free solar company and he and i band the grand total of maybe forty five seconds together to chatting. He grabbed my heart away out yes. She called me. He's visiting our chapter tomorrow morning. Not because he remembered me. In the way that i spoke about work and whatnot. He actually emailed me. Asked me you know. Hey you're elevator. Which is really good. What what you referred to it. As and i said oh yeah he goes. Where'd you going to do that. Honestly i d. I kind of chuckled. He goes. I've heard about this. I think and i want to some enjoyment. So he's actually visiting tomorrow based on equality of my real quickly versus simply tell him boy wasn't what i do. "Is i like to call it versus balance. Can you talk a little bit about the science of stress. Yeah it's a stress is really interesting because we are designed to have a a reaction to stress a response to stress and back in the day. And i'm talking twelve thousand years ago you would be out hunting and you'd see a sabertooth tiger and your biology would fire and adrenaline would get released in gorda saw gets released and certain parts of your brain light up and you'd get out of there and you'd be huffing and puffing but you'd be safe and everything would return to homeo- stasis and you'd be good. The problem is we were not designed to be in an ever. Present world of stress so stress is exacerbated by a media cycle and a new cycle. That's now twenty. Four hours and customized that this didn't exist in the past and i'm not talking didn't exist in the past when caveman were around talking in twenty years ago this was no devices in our pockets that were delivering us unending barrage of information and most negative and so now we have and we have a pandemic that we haven't really experienced a society since nineteen eighteen in the world is very different than it was honored and three years ago. So what's happening is we have these constant stressors which weaned or moans like cortisol are impacting us around the clock. Cognitive distortion surrounding fears and concerns are now ever present and what that does is it wreak havoc now mentally. Psychologically on us but physically which i alluded to earlier when i when i quoted that recent study so it is so essential. We can't control the pandemic right. We can choose or not. Choose to get vaccinated. And that's not a political statement. That's just fact we can choose who we're going to hang around with what we're gonna do. We really don't have any control over however irises gonna spread in what it may do when we don't have any control over wars the economy. There's all these things. But it's cramp down our throats so it's really critical that we as much as possible minimize our exposure to this man. I tell people turn off the news. I don't i've been saying for years. Microdosing news no. I have no news apps on my phone. I have no feeds with news. If there's people in your social media that all they're doing is reach. We reach weeding. The world is ending. The sky is falling those people out of your fees. You don't have to be a jerk and unfrozen them but certainly on on follow and so you know those little things that you can do. We have simple. Tips always thought about a minute left to wrap up absolutely exercise daily scheduled time to relax and have boundaries around your work hours. Yeah i you know for my entire professional career. I've had what. I call a mental health day once a week whenever possible. We're i just do things that i want to do. And i stay home. And i don't have people over and i may see family but it's it's my margin and i think that's really important too many business people don't have those is critical So dot richardson. "For two years. Where i had been talking about. You know i'm. I'm i'm chief visionary officer i've been talking about the vision of change. That's coming down. The pike and i think it was a little bit more palatable to many people they weren't quite a shocked because they knew the technology was was being developed. I think that's best examples. Yeah no that's a great example. So do you have any vision for the future here. I do think the technology thing is going to continue You know we've talked about holographic mixed reality technologies are coming along and i just saw an article recently about microsoft developing three d technology. Which is really unique. It's not holographic but it's like looking through a glass pane an an imagine on the other side of glass. You see somebody three dimensional. You can see them as though they are literally sitting three feet away from you. And that's technology that microsoft is working on right now and they're you know in a different country. They're in a different state. There you know many many miles away but it's like you're looking at them through a glass pane three-dimensional and so you can see their eyebrows. Raise easily you can see much of their body language it's literally like you're sitting in the same room. So i believe that this. This isn't the end of online. This is just the beginning of online technologies that will make it easier and easier for us to Connect with each other without having to be in person. Now that said. I do believe that through most of my lifetime. We're still going to want to do in person meetings to me. I am going to talk about this in a future. Podcast i believe blended meetings are the transition where we do a in person. Maybe who knows by the way. This isn't policy that. I'm about to tell you this is my. Yeah you my vision. I believe we're gonna see more blended. Maybe we meet him person once a month in online three times a month. And so you get this Both in person and online. And i still love in person. You know priscilla. We've met in person a couple of times and it just so much more powerful to meet in person yet you know through zoom more through a phone call and and so i think the combination is is really perfect for a transitional period Good well that's interesting. "As much as you expect. And don't expect anything in return. We talk about that. And that's essentially what givers gain. Is you know we give we give before we think about getting right so i joined in two thousand nine as a member ivan and i will tell you i joined for the wrong reasons. I joined to get business. But what i found is when i started giving business. That's when the magic happens. And that's the chips happen so we've talked about relationships and we've talked about giving referrals because i love giving referrals i love getting referrals by giving referrals more so so when we are doing remember building those relationships and were given those referrals. Revenue automatically happens when we are giving a referral. And we do everything that you've taught us to do on follow up with the referral right. That revenue is going to come naturally in so when we follow the three r.'s. the relationships rebuilding the relationships. And it's not gonna come overnight. That's what i tell everybody talking about relationships. It doesn't happen overnight because what trust takes time right when we're given and you mentioned you were going to mention the shawshank redemption on referrals. I think that's a great quote. Do you want to share that. I did so. I love giving referrals. And i never even watched that movie before i met my husband in his. It's his absolute favorite movie grizz. When i was looking at it any says read i understand. You're a man knows how to get things. And so personally. I love it when i'm the man or the woman who knows how to get things i talked about. You know being a rotarian sitting at breakfast. And they're like hey you're that network group right you know how to get things actually do so. It doesn't matter what i do. So and so. I think it's great. So when we put the relationships were building those the referrals will come naturally and the revenue and then the revenue. And it's just a beautiful thing when we tied those three things together and so a question for you ivan. I know it's your podcasts. You ask questions but doesn't it sound like another thing that we talked about. Bmi which is the v. c. p. process it's about building relationships with people and credibility. Once you build that visit go from visibility credibility then and only then can you get the profitability absolutely and it all starts with that first ours building those relationships and doing business with people we know like and trust and trust. "For today for celebrity. Any thoughts. I think that took a lot of creativity on your part and it turned out. Well that's for sure. Well it turned out really well. 'cause i didn't have to take a mass lab you sack on. I was happy about that. Just all by itself. How would you apply to be an i. I've been look. I think there's always options you know. I've seen situations where people had conflict in a chapter And and they just give up. Okay i give up. I'm not gonna deal with this. And they walk away or they get mad and they complain And oftentimes there are solutions. That can be had by having a problem with a member. I mean your conversation with the membership committee or first before we have a conversation with the membership committee. She down with a member and talk to the member about the challenge. Work through the challenge that you may have it may be a conflict in classification. It may be a referral that you gave them. That didn't work out. It could be anything but but look for solutions. Not don't get obsessed with the problems and if that doesn't work go to the membership committee. I have a conversation with the membership community about it could be about attendance. You know maybe you can't make a meeting and so you gotta bring in a sub now bringing a sub but do it right you bring in a sub not not. Don't just pick some cereal sub. Who doesn't care about you find somebody. Who's a great substitute who represent you just as well as you. And by the way. I've seen subs who've done a better job than the member so always look for solutions. Don't just give in to the problem. And i gotta tell you if i have any strength. I may not be the smartest man in a room. I may not be the most talented man in the room. But i have absolutely the most persistent man in almost any room. I go into and this was for me a matter of persistence in finding a solution to a problem. That i didn't i didn't i didn't want to buy answer make sense. I totally does. And now i have an awesome seller credible wine And my favorite by the way is a big bad bold cabernet so unknown just for the record. Okay so all those listeners out. "So if you want to save the person you're talking about he goes back every week to any has a meeting with his staff to talk about some of the people that he, you know, some of his members that do presentations or whatever that week. He talks to the Staffing week about them. Yeah. Yes, and if you ask because it's it's instead of just sitting sitting by yourself and thinking how can I refer the people in my network you yep? Do it collaboratively and it's it's a team effort and and and he gives a ton of referrals every week because he doesn't do it on his own right? So it's I think it's a great way to do it wrong number of members that will bring their staff to Abby and I'm eating so they can experience it and understand this crazy thing that they're talking about every week when they come back to the office from a in a meeting. That's a pretty good idea to have you seen people do that. Yes, for sure. Yeah, and and and they and they also they use that as a reward for the for their best employee that you have to earn your right to pretend to represent this company in a BNI chapter. It's not something that that you're going to I'm going to just let you take for granted and I'm going to page I'm going to pay the membership for you and I'm going to send you and and then you're going to underperform. No way you're going to you're going to have to earn it. So I think it's it's a great way home. In the end this is going to benefit you. You're going to grow you're going to learn you're going to make connections that you're going to take wherever you go and on top of everything you're going to have results because you're on the sales team. So it's all it's a little benefits are for you and you need to earn this spot. Yeah. I love it. Any any closing thoughts before we wrap up. Well, there's the second part to this story over that I want to talk to tell you about so fast forward a few months any in rojelio has a call with his franchise or something and he's his fellow franchisees and and there are talking about how hard it is to get new customers. And then then it's it's a common theme so really gets gets up and he's dead. I don't know what you're all y'all are doing, but I joined me and I and I took care of the problem. So so the next thing that happens is that he's franchisor got in touch with us to learn more about BMI. And now we have close to 10:00 Chem-Dry franchisees or around the system here in Mexico so long, it's we have a very very profitable partnership with them. Oh, that's a great story. I love that and we love working with franchises who send a large dog. Father your franchisees to be an I I I do a lot of presentations for those organizations online to help them and not just not just to talk about being a butt to talk about how to network box so great great stuff and and started with a ten year old started with a ten-year-old. How to Give Visitors a Wow! Experience

"Priscilla rice and I'm coming to you from Live Oak recording studio in Berkeley, California, and I'm joined on the phone today by the founder and the chief Visionary officer of BNI. Dr. Ivan misner. Hello, How are you? And where are you this week? I am in addition to many recorded visits all around the world. I am Live this week June for a regional compact. In event, so I'm in Canada this week. That sounds all right. Now also this week I have a guest this is his fifth visit to as a guest to be an iPod cast and his name is Mark Applebaum. Mark has been would be and I for over 15 years. He's been a director consultant for more than five years. He's long and successful chapters in the b&i Utah and North Region Marx married to his amazing life. He says Tiffany for almost twenty years with two children Ryan and Tom Jenna and one of the things that Mark loves to do is to teach chapter members how to give visitors a wow experience. I can't think of anything better than that. Welcome back Mark mm contest. Thank you so much. I've it's great to be back. What's good to have you here? And you want to start by talking about making visitors female wanted so the floors your home. Well, thank you, you know a little background of where my y about this topic came up his growing up. I grew up back east in New York and my dad owned a pet store or at the time when I was growing up and I worked for my dad for many years and my dad was the world to me and he struggled a lot financially. So if a customer ever left his store, but happy it really affects his livelihood. So I was did my best to if a customer wasn't having a positive experience at least have them leads as happy as possible and you know in vni every visitor is not only a potential customer to be an eye, but it's a potential customer for ourselves. It's a their potential referral partners for ourselves more could lead us to potential customers or referral Partners. So how we treat our visitors. It's just imperative. So this podcast, you know, if you're a visitor host. It's not just meant for the visitor house out there. It's really meant for every single member to take on the mindset of a visit. Post because we all play a role in that visitor experience and it's in the future success of our chapter know let me just add one thing to you real quick. I know if you know this, but when I started back we didn't have visitor hosts. One of the things I said was that if you invited a visitor you had to be there host and honestly that didn't work as well. So because not everybody's created equal as a host wage and we did create visitor host. But that was my initial concept with b and I was that everybody had to be a host especially the person that invited them and I love the story to share in in givors gained about the visitor you sent to a chapter who ended up going to a different chapter who's the chapter that actually designed to visit our house program. That's either story. So everyone listening think about the region your chapters in and the amount of chapters you have in your region and just here in the Utah North Region. We have fifty three chapters and just in the Salt Lake area we have over 2,000 chapter wage. So depending on what what a visitor does they really in a twenty-mile radius twenty-minute radius. They have a wide variety of of chapters to choose from. So if you if the for the people if you take a moment and think about your chapter and the culture that it has now imagine for a moment every chapter in your region met at the same time the same day in the same location as all the other chapters sure that's not possible. But imagine it was for a moment. Yeah, I would a visitor choose your chapter over all the other ones and you know, it really comes down to what the poet Maya Angelou says best people will forget what you said people will forget what you did but people will never forget how you made them feel. Yes, what a visitor feel welcomed and important. They're more likely to want more of that and yep. That's why we all play a role in that positive experience. Whether you're the visitor host or not your contribution to your chapter and that in your involvement with how the visitor enters the room and Enterprise is in call and and welcoming them really makes such a difference. So a few examples of ideas that members and chapters can take on that could be very beneficial to them. The first is off when the visitor is already registered in BNI connect. The leadership team will receive an email saying so-and-so is registered to to visit on this particular day. Right? Well, the idea would be that the president of the chapter soon after getting that email sends a personal email to that visitor and also on that email they copy on the email other members in the chapter that are complementary to the visitor and then purpose of all that is 1 to let the visitor know how excited they are to meet them to to give them any instructions. They they may need to you know, show up but yep. To really let the visitor know that these other members could be great power Partners together with that visitor and so a great success story. I'd like to share is about three years ago as a director. One of my roles was placing visitors helping visitors find Chapters and I was working with one professional and his business was custom mens clothing and because of his schedule I took it into three different chapters and the third chapter he went to the president at the time Steve level who's the business attorney in the chapter was phenomenal at doing this and so he sent this personal email to this month custom clothing gentleman, and he see see the financial adviser and the family law attorney on on the email who both of them also replied to the custom clothing gentleman saying Thursday, we looks so we look forward to meeting you we too could use help with their own wardrobe and that visitor ended up visiting and a couple of weeks later. He ended wage. Joining and a couple of weeks later. I called them to say to figure out why he picked that chapter over the other two and in his words. He said that that chapter had an unfair Advantage because without one month then, you know connected to the members before they even met them that he wanted to join a group and three years later. He still a member of the group

And so we thought we would incorporate it back in by at least mentioning one of the places that I am Live this week. I am live in the United Kingdom for a large Regional event. I've done a lot of recorded visits around the world, but I'm doing a live event in the UK. So we have an interesting topic today out of build your vcp on zoom. And those of you who don't know V C P stands for visibility credibility profitability and we have someone as a guest who is now the reigning Champion for the number of guests visits on being a podcast. This is her eight visits is Tiffany Kellogg and Tiffany entered the entrepreneurial World in two thousand and three. She's enjoyed being able to help her class make money save time have fun. She spends her time traveling across the globe before covid-19 housings of entrepreneurs. Now, she probably does it virtually like I do and whether sharing her expertise wage, Southern Accent on referral marketing networking maximizing your time Tiffany will knock your socks off in with any audience with their fun and entertaining presentations. Now you have a you understand the Sox branding thing that happenes got go to episode number 489 about her colorful socks, you know, he was amazing socks and was funny about that is if you looked at my song it's all black all my socks. So she's very colorful. She's the author of several books and we have her back here today to talk about vcp. Welcome back Tiffany. Thank you so much I have and I'm supposed to be here. You're going to talk about three things how to be seen what to say what not to do. If we have time. We got a bonus round. So talk to us about that and how it fits in vcp job interesting thing where we've switched to Zim and we've been here six months or so now and I think we have to keep in mind that being on camera is now replacing us being in the meeting. So we want to make sure the game Doing everything we can to be moving up the referral confidence curve and down the referral confidence come out. And so the first thing to me is how do you want to be seen and when we only have a short time for a weekly presentation or our featured presentation just a couple of times a year. We want to make sure that we are using the most of the space that we have. So many people are watching the zoom meeting with you on gallery. So you're only a couple inches high. So you really want to think about bringing your energy. I think you have to be more energetic on Zoom than you actually do in person wage. Do you think doctor my eyes? Are you finding that? You have to kind of take it up a notch on camera Coney Island Tiffany? Yeah, I think so. And I think if I remember that like gestures and gestures, you tied my hands. I must be Italian somewhere because if you tied my hands you couldn't speak. I think it's really important to make sure that your hands are included in the camera so that you know when you're doing hand gestures Which means you need to tighten it up. You need to bring your hands in a little closer to show that excitement and to show you know, that visually show that you're you're making a point in that sense. Yes, and then I know we're all in like different with our camera is at so for me. I'm like, I would never talk in public with my hands up by my head, but you do want to have people see that girl. I think you want when you're being seen you want to thank can I use props either something visual that we can use. Yes great suggestion. Yeah, and then we also have the virtue backdrops versus the regular background. I think that your goal is you want to be professional dress professional with a professional background whether that's virtual that works for you or I have a zoom Courtney my office. I actually created this about three years ago to where I can easily do zoom and I know it always looks great behind me. Yeah, cuz if you I don't know if you've seen anybody I I've been with the dog. 30 piles of stuff in the background. Yes. It has it's not it's not pretty I don't know what they're thinking that cracks me up though. Have you seen the new jersey and I assume background that's got me standing off on the left. So I see them because people take screenshots and I'm tagged on Facebook page actually being in a photograph when it's just me as a backdrop, which is just cracks me up. That is hysterical. The last thing I want to say about being seen is make sure that you have your name spelled properly first and last name, maybe even your company name labeled with you and the zoom box. I was visiting a chapter and somebody was listed as dads iPhone off. Oh God. Okay. Yeah. That's that's a problem. You don't want the first thing we want to make sure is we want to be seen the second thing. I think it's very important for us is what time To say I think Matt now more than ever we have to make sure we're very concise with our message and we like to use the saying be specific to be terrific. So during your weekly and featured presentation you wanted to ask you definitely want to make sure that you are specific about that ideal referral or the ideal referral source, and I think that when were sharing if you can use success stories, that is so impactful. We like to say stories sell War facts just tell so anytime you can tell us successes that you created for your clients. It's makes it easy for your fellow chapter members to refer you. Can I add one thing to that but we're telling because I think it's really important don't retell a story relive a story The more you can relive life, you know, really think about your experience there and do your best to re limit as you tell that story. It makes for better storytelling

"Important. Talk to your referral partner. It'd be and I remember about edifying who? Comes in handy for you and your relationship. With the person because now. They're hearing not only about how good you think the person is referring, but that person is also saying why you're doing business with the great you know. Individually they do fantastic work, and so it's a sort of mutual edification which raises both of you in the IS A. Prospect. So a level five. Referral is key in my opinion, practically closed deal. It's generally it means that businesses is really it's a layup. It's not a guarantee, but it's a layup la up and not much required. really except answering some questions and and. Being able to? Do obviously the person who who. Is Looking for the product or service now in the book. I talk about what I call the referral continuum for the five levels of referral. This is important the lower. level. Of Referral. The level of difficulty. Turn it into business. I have graph that a show. In north and like a pro circumcision. To the Level one referral. Can you know ninety five percent? Effort? Turn into a sale, but a level two referral takes. Seventy five percent. There's no magic to the numbers, but it's it's. It's less effort. As their level increases, so that level three referrals, maybe fifty percent. Effort compared to. the pious level referral level four might be twenty five percent level five, maybe five or ten percent effort. So that higher the level of referral, the lower the level of difficulty to turn it into business is that makes sense yeah yeah. Your goal should be. NEVER GIVE I. Michael has always been. Never, give out anything less than a level three have I have I done it? Yeah, what? Don't shoot for I. Shoot for at the very least level three referral. and. I strive. Do Level, four and level five referrals I would say the majority of referrals I've given up. I've been mostly little four. Referrals little five takes a little more work. and I often refer people that I'm not. I'm not. I don't live near but I've set up a skype call whenever possible. so. These are how I define the five levels of referral I. Think this would make a great education coordinator. Presentation that'd be an eye chapters and share it. With with the remembers, you can get it right out of second edition of. Of networking like a pro, you thoughts, Priscila, you know it's interesting. Because I assumed that on the you know on on a referral slip, it has kind of. How hot is this referral? And I might even have flames on it. I can't remember, but it seems like. I interpreted that to mean. How badly does this person need? The work done that kind of thing like how? How hot is their receptivity to your referral? Not kind of a how much preparation have you done to refer this person? It's kind of interesting. It's a different take on it. It is and I think when we first developed to right I. Know that when I first developed the referral slip many years ago, that was the original intention, but what we discovered is that. Belief on how hot the referral is! May Not be based on facts. And so the more information that I. Get. The more confidence that I have. It is in fact. Great for? And so I learned. That the levels of referral. Help to determine just really how how hot it is. You're sending up. We think about. If. I'm referring you to be an I member. And you're willing to go with me to me and I remember. How interested are you in that product or service? Yeah you're you're willing to say yes. I would like to go meet that person. Please introduce me. You're probably pretty interested. Right! Right right. So, yeah, if you weren't interesting, it'd be like now. Give me some time I'll think about it, yeah. Right Yeah, can you just give me his phone number? I'll call them. Right those are the things you'd say, but if you're like Oh, yeah, would you introduced me? That'd be fantastic. Okay, that's a good referral. Yeah, either way to five levels of referral are on. H. Two hundred and fifty three. It's chapter thirty six. networking approach second edition. This is not in the first edition of. Prime mentioned that there are. we batted a lot of content. First addition. it has different levels. As more than five. So. We've narrowed it down to five. "Week typically at least one person a month is going to show up and so that leads us to the last activity which is referrals. And I'm going to compare that to. There's a part of our brain that a lot of people know about clothing particular activating system. And it's up part of your brain that when you're looking for something like a new car for instance your brain program to that car so typically if you're in the market for a yellow Volkswagen seeing yellow Volkswagen's all over the place well in being I if you're doing those other activities you're you're showing up every week and being present if you're investing the time to to en- be university and the education offers if you're doing the one to ones and finding out about from your sales and marketing team who they WanNa meet and then inviting those people giving referrals will become a lot more natural. Your members will become a lot. More top of mind for you and getting referrals will become a lot easier. that's a great one and I'd recommend people go to episode number four zero four called standing in the middle of referrals. Talk about the whole concept of particular activating system. It's really powerful. And I'm glad you brought that up the so. Those are the five money-making activities and be an eye. So why do you think people complicate the process? You know as human beings. We have a tendency to take something simple and make it complicated and with being i. It's really this simple. These are five simple things that anyone can easily do on a daily and weekly basis to be successful now. Sometimes she'll say I said a lot of work for being I. What do you say that well? You said this on. One of our podcast. That united together. Actually I have that. You're not doing it for being you doing it for yourself. And none of this really benefits. I mean yes if they joined that it's benefiting being I but basically these activities that veteran members of being I are proven that although xetra members are veteran because they're doing these activities on a regular basis and that's why they're so successful. Yeah look you know be an. I is really in the long run. Only successful with the members are successful so we want you to be successful. You're listening to this. We want you to be successful. And these are the kinds of activities that we have seen over and over again. That help people be successful by the way. Look FOR SOME DANA COMING UP. "For a podcast. Tell us where people can get the book. So the It's really easy. They can just go to Amazon and type in. Tell me exactly what to say. And if their prime member they can do by now excellent and they'll look for Debbie Peters and that's spelled with a wide maybe that's right peters yes and if members want to go to your website That website is connects te co N. eat x T NATION DOT COM. And they find out a lot of other information. Anything else from the book that you'd like to share. We've got another couple of minutes anything else you'd like to share book that would help out and I remember one thing that people ask me a lot not necessarily from the bucket who should read this book and by the way. I jokingly caught the bathroom but because I know you've had it in front of you. You know you could read a chapter in about five minutes but certainly be an eye members and certainly Nubia nine members that can be helpful to them But also the older more season members that you know may that they may find one conversation like what do you say when you're in a conference and you want to speak to? The speaker may be helpful to them. I think new college grads also and then sales managers can use this book as an educational tool when they're having their their Monday morning sales meetings with their sales team. Can you give 'em put you on the spot here? King give us one example from one of those different scenarios that you just gave so you mean who should read. It are another conference in terms of one of those examples that you just give okay the speaking to the speaker talking to the Speaker Ashtray and made a presentation so I recommend first of all you know. Listen so that you have heard what they've had to say and then go up and say this is. This is something that I found was so helpful for me to hear how you talked about being positive even in the face of the Corona virus coming in that. This is how you stay positive and how you continue to work forward. I do have one question though. And so you ask the question and then you shut your mouth and listen and then ask another question and so it doesn't say you know maybe two or three questions at the most because other people will be waiting to speak to that speaker but also you can ask for. They're they're just like us they as you know you speak all the time. You WanNa hear that you've made a difference in someone's life so when someone can email you and tell you after they've spoken to you. Wow that was great is even better. So that's the conversation we just. That's a great example thing. I want to emphasize as you want to go up. Prepared to talk about something specific. I remember telling true starting told US Speaker. That was a great job and he said what did you like most and I left my notes back at my table and up there with a specific thing and I'm like oh it was just so surprised. He felt like I was drinking water from fire. And I didn't have an answer. I felt like an idiot. So that's good to have a very specific a topic that you want to talk about. Well we're out of time. No question about that when you know when I started being definitely networking up most of the people that I invited to be an I were more successful than me. What even if you're in a chapter where that's not the case. There's always something to learn from people from peers. Who can teach you something about their business that you didn't know That somehow helps you in your business and this is definitely a side effect of being. I that we really don't talk about very much and I'm really glad that you brought it up. What was that expression that dentist used in you mentioned in the beginning of this about something about? She only making a connection with the people when they're sitting in preview at their Mouth Open. Sh- well they would. They taught me. College was want to do when you already have somebody with their mouth open in front of you but what happens to to get to what happens before we get to that point. How do I get that customer? The trusted me enough to be here in front of me with his or her mouth. Open immediate everything. That's surrounding this operation. It's kind of important to Nen. Nobody talks about that In in dental school and chiropractic school medical school in legal school in any of those. They don't talk about how to get people to that point where they're they're sitting in front of their mouth open. I absolutely love that Expression Alina. And I'm coming to you from live oak recording studio in Berkeley California and I'm joined and on the phone today by the founder and the chief visionary officer be an eye doctor Ivan Meisner. Hello Ivan how are you and where are you I am. I'm home in Austin Texas today but I'm meeting with my new friend. Robert Scroll who wrote the book the Retention Point and he and I they are doing a book together. We don't have a title for the book but it's about Membership and it's about Bni and you'll all hear about the book more in the next In the next year a Roberts grow again wrote the book retention point which is about retaining members retaining people within a business great book great concept and. That's what I'm working on this week with. Rumour great gene in so tell us about networking mentor. So I'm I want to talk about another book that I recently came called the network and Mentor and Priscilla. I I like to plan my spontaneity and this this is not planned. I'm going to be spontaneous. I'm going to talk about this book. And I haven't create an outline for this discussion which is rare for me because I like to plan my spontaneity but I wanNA talk about this book. The networking mentor. which is on the podcast? You can see it on the website and I'll make sure to include clue to link here but DISA- crate book for being members who wants to be a mentor to other. Be An IRA members or or new members who want to be mentored by a member and so I wanNA talk a little bit about. This book called the network and Mentor. And I WANNA walk through some of the chapters of the book starting with the First Chapter Chapter One and this is a book. That's different than every book I've ever written because it's a parable it's story that's yeah it's a story that's interesting. It's not just a here's what you need to do to be a mentor. It's astonishing story and in the story. Jim Is the mentor. Ken is the mentality and it starts. The book starts with talking about how Ken is struggling and business snus. Does this sound familiar to anybody. Who's listening to this struggling? Who business you need someone to help you? Jim Is the mentor. Jim Connects with with Ken Because he's Jim is actually a client of cans in the book and Jim. Jim sees the. Ken is struggling and he says. Hey there's a great organization that I'm that I'm a part of it too. Networking group come visit. The interesting thing is is Kim hates networking eights it but Jim says you gotta come to this thing. and that's really the premise of the book. By the way you'll see in the very first chapter. There's an office manager mentioned in there. Her name is Dana. So this is just between you and I- Priscilla Uh and the handful of people. Okay maybe hopefully the tens of thousands of people who are listening to this podcast. The office manager is named Dana. So just between you and I and everybody else. Dana is my assistant. I already knew I wanted to throw her name name. Because she's such a great assistant. I actually threw her name in the book. And so the Dana helps with this meeting between Ken and Jim and basically can explain how he's struggling in business and and Jim Explains how he can generate a whole lot more business through this process of networking and even explains in the book. How in just a few years he? He went from the From being on the verge which of bankruptcy to be an incredibly successful what I love about this part of my book is that I just heard and I hear stories like this all the time but just a couple of days ago. I heard about PM member who was on. The verge of bankruptcy was living in their van. They were a contractor. They were living in their van and they joined me and I and in the last ten years he's he's been a member for ten years totally changed his life. He's got an incredibly successful business with employees and he went from living in his van on the verge of bankruptcy to having a successful business with multiple employees doing really well. And that's what this book doc talks about. It talks about how Jim when from almost being in bankruptcy to running a successful business because of his networking efforts and That was that's the first chapter. The second chapter of the book is about the meeting so ken goes to the meeting. And this important because you're all being members what happens when a visitor visits. Are you making them feel welcome to. They walked through the Jordan. Do they feel like wow. This is incredible. And that's what can experience in this book the network and Mentor. Ken Walked in and he was. I La these people are incredible incredible. They're motivated they're excited. They're focused on doing business This is a really exciting. And that's amazing in part of a great being. I'm meeting and he can watch this meeting. Watch the educational moment. He saw the amazing number number of referrals that were passed. He had a fantastic experience and he'd never seen anything like that in a networking meeting before at some point in the meeting and the book talks about this. The Code of ethics be an ice code of ethics. Now I guess important important because in chapter five of this book we have a section called the name Sarah the Naysayer. The person who says. Hey what the heck are you thinking and Kim. What are you really? You're going to join that and I think this guy was a member of at one point. His name was Berry in the book and Berry says wait a minute. What is this on your desk? And he's looking at the code of Ethics Priscilla and he says is this the oath and Ken says what do you mean. You mean the Oth an Berry says in this networking thing Kansas. If you mean the code of Ethics Yeah that's what it is and this Guy Berry says hey. I was a member of that group. It didn't work out well. I don't recommend it. It's not what was advertised. And of course. Ken freaks out a little bit really seriously. Maybe I shouldn't join. I've been invited to join. Maybe I shouldn't Johnny. And so when he does he reaches out to his mentor to Jim and Jim The Sky Berry says maybe I shouldn't joined and and he said some straight his mentor. Since of straightness look Berry was a member. He didn't really do the things that he promised to do. He's no longer member. You know him you know May WanNa do business with and that was a seminal point for this guy because he knew. Ken was honest an ethical and he wanted to do business that guy and he knew berry was problematic and full of drama. And why should he listen to that guy and he ended up joining. And that's that's we're about halfway through the book. I'll give you just a little bit more in the book. The book that Working Metro Talks about the friendship factor. And how it it is about building relationships in the organization but that you've got to go beyond the relationships that you have. The one of the strengths of being is that we're all friends but one of the weaknesses weaknesses is that we're all friends and you have to work past that and you have to put it all together through the process and the system and the relationships that you have and the Latte very last part of the book is I think incredibly powerful and and I would love to have love those. You're you're listening to this that you find this a value to you to pick up. A copy of the book can mentor. You can read it all in an hour and a half. It's a a short book. The last part of the book is really where can has trained. He's been mentored by Jim. Jim Jim's mentored Ken. Ken has gone from being a struggling business to a successful business. Now what and the last chapter is about Ken becoming a mentor. And the subtitle for this book is who story. Are you in. We all have people who are in our story but the real powerful thing in mentoring I believe is who story or you in. whose life are you making a difference in? And that's the last chapter of the book. What goes around comes around? Someone has helped me. I'm now going to help them be successful. And all this. Although this Book Priscilla the networking mentor is not about being I. It's all about being. I even isn't say it's about being I. It's all about being in about what different you can make another people's people's lives and that's my my book and I urge people to to got some new book called the Networking Mentor. "Low Ivan how are you today? I am threatened fantastic. Priscilla and I've got a question today. It's, it's sort of an ask Ivan question. Because somebody sent me this question, and I thought it would make an interesting podcast because it goes back really goes back to nineteen eighty six or nine hundred eighty seven when I first. Consider this idea, and it comes up every year, at least once or twice where somebody asked me the question. So I figured after all this time maybe make good podcast. So here's the question. It was sent to me by a director who said, I recently had a president ask a question that I I'd like your feedback on the director asked me. And here's the question of president said, I have an idea. How about once a quarter we move our normal meeting from seven am to an evening meeting. So we can invite more visitors winter Zane meeting take the same attendants. It just might be easier to get visitors to come. I feel we need to do something different. So we really want to try moving in one of our meetings to the evening. Now a no here, the question went on, and I'm going to share a little bit more of the question in a moment. But for everyone listening to this podcast. Most groups meet in the morning, all around the world, a very, very small number meet in the evening, a little larger number meet at lunch. So we do have groups around the world that meet at lunch and a very small number of chapters. Meet in the evening a well over ninety percent it. Least ninety percent or more meat in the morning. So most of our chapters to meet in the morning, and that should tell you something. The member went on to say, and here's here's a side issue that I wanna address he said episode number five hundred eighty five will allow me to experiment without breaking the rules. So I wanted clarify this. This is a podcast where I said my approach to the no sense no-win situation. That's not what five eighty five said. So as you're listening to podcasts. Don't don't say, oh well, I'm gonna apply this podcast. Everything I do it that particular podcast wasn't about changing the meeting time. And most importantly, it was it was really about how to deal with a no win situation and I don't think meeting in the morning when ninety percent of the organization meets in the morning is a no win situation. Might my, my point my side point here. Don't miss apply. Some of my podcasts to other situations, five eighty five definitely does not apply to the time of the meeting that you may. So the director asked me after she shared this entire question. Do I have any suggestions to help navigate this issue? And so here's my answer. And I know before we went on the air, Priscilla you had a thought to and I, I'd love to hear yours. But here's my response meeting at a different time in this case, the evening was a thought that I had in nine hundred eighty six and eighty seven and I thought it was a fantastic idea to occasionally meet in the evening. And I tried it. And it was a complete and utter waste of time and effort, we discovered that we did. In fact, kit new visitors to the evening meeting that would not come to the morning meeting. The problem was they still wouldn't come to the morning meeting. Grind. So we disrupted everyone's scheduled. We disrupted everyone's schedule and achieved zero new members, we did it twice with the same result. So I urge people not to do this. It's changing the time for everyone in hopes that you get more visitors might infect work, you'll get more visitors. But the question is are these visitors who are going to join and the answer to that is? No. And based on my experience the answer to that is no. So why inconvenience everyone when people who have a hard time coming to morning, meetings aren't going to join anyway, because your meetings are in the morning? And so you had a suggestion, which I think is great. And then I have a few other things, I want to share, but share your suggestion Priscilla. Yeah. Well, I was thinking, you know, if people wanna meet in the evening, just to get to know, new potential members then why don't they created a social event like have, you know, a wine event, or some kind of meet and greet in a restaurant or whatever the restaurant or sometimes I've seen chapters to a mixer at one of the members locations. So it's cut. Two, two prong approach you get exposure for a member in their location, and you have a social in the evening. I think that's a brilliant idea, and I'd recommend it. But I wouldn't replace a meeting with it because you have to remember what, what's the purpose of bringing in visitors? It's not just to have another body its potential members. So you can you could invite you could invite the mayor of a city. But they're not they're not a potential member. Inviting certain people in certain businesses or, or you know, just to get a body is not what you're wanting what you want or keeping our potential members to the organization. So our experiences that if they're not gonna come to a morning meeting. They're not gonna come and, and having an evening meeting to get them to just come doesn't solve the problem. And, and here's why I think. Keeping the meetings in the morning. Or if you have a lunch meeting or an evening meeting keeping them at that time, it's the power of time repetition. Doing things over and over a long period of time on a consistent basis yields results. It's about doing six things at thousand times not a thousand things six times. And so that, that process of timed repetition, is a known success process, and changing things up won't necessarily yield the results you want. It's also important to understand that be nice enough for everyone. You want people who are willing to commit to weekly meetings at the same time and at the same place, and making everyone changed to a different time to possibly attract someone who doesn't want to go to the meeting at the normal time. It's just generally not a strategy. And I, I want to say it's not that it's a bad idea. I mean, I thought it was a really good idea. When I try to decades ago, it just was a bad result. So it's a good idea that didn't get the result that. I had hoped. So here's let me give a positive approach to this issue. He here. Here's something that you can do to keep the meetings lively and interesting and fun that you should consider. And that would be things like our meeting stimulants. Armenian stimulants like cards in a basket. True, false quiz tools of the trade industry trends, bringing your substitute any t- radio. If, if you are hearing this, and you had no idea what I'm talking about talk to your local BNI director. We have many, many dozens of meeting stimulants that keep things interesting. And, and, and fun. And so that the visitors that come experience being I'm meeting, and yet the members are also having a good time and keeping things light, and interesting, just a I don't recommend that you change the time, a just to get more visitors because it's not going to be the visitors that. Are likely to join does that make sense, right? Yeah. Totally. So, you know. You know, keep these questions coming, you can Email me at ask I've even at dot com. Ask hibernate dot com. And if if you've had an experience in, in trying to change up a times, and I'd love to hear it here on the podcast, so feel free to, to a post your experience in changing your, your times, I particularly be interested in hearing about social events, which was priscilla's suggestion, I particularly love to hear about social events that you might have done, and whether you've done anything, maybe at at one of the members locations or at a restaurant, I think that's a great idea to get exposure to be an eye for some people that may not come to the morning meeting, but again, they're unlikely to make a commitment if they're not willing to do a morning meeting to begin with.
