In Prince William County and the Board of Supervisors decided he was the man for the job after a nationwide search of 50 applicants, But you know, it's hard to say because while Mayor Mayor Muriel Bowser has always stood behind her chief of police throughout the summer, as there were calls for his resignation following the BLM protests and calls to defund the police. Newsome was really at odds with the D C council taking issues with some of the reforms they passed, you'll remember they cut the department's expected budget increase. And he told police officers. The council completely abandoned them. And he called it a knee jerk reaction to defund the police. So there were you know, tensions between he and the committee for the Judiciary, For example, Charles Allen and with former council member David Cross. Oh, A star is the mayor and the chief. As far as we know, everything was fine. So I wonder if it's e mean if we can only speculate, But he seemed to make it sound like he was ready for the change. Prince William County has become a lot more diverse than it was 10 and certainly 20 years ago, and there may be a lot there for a big city police chief to sink his teeth into, But there's nothing like being part of the team here in the nation's capital. At times you called upon by very powerful people, the president himself Kind of thing, and I'm not sure there's that kind of visibility in Prince William. I would agree with you. He told me. I said, Well, that this is going to be different. And he said, You know, things in DC happened 100 Miles an hour. You deal with a lot of issues. He's been with the department, the D. He was promoted rather early by chief Charles Ramsey in the nineties to oversee The overhaul of the department following on the high number of deadly shootings by officers back in the nineties. And then, when he was promoted to interim chief in 2016, he decided, you know, let's focus on community policing. Really focusing on removing illegal guns from the streets, But it's worth mentioning, you know? Well, there were a few years where he saw some progress in that area. Homicides this year are up 20% of what they were last year. So he is leaving D c not in a good state, necessarily, as far as the homicide rate goes over all crimes and better in a better position, But D C. You know you have 100 nearly 800,000 residents. In Prince William County, Virginia. You have half that. "But right now, let's keep it a little local as we talked to the Republican nominee for chairman of the Prince William county board of supervisor position currently hold by Corey Stewart. He is John gray. Thanks for joining us, Mr Gray. You bet. Well, so congratulations on winning the primary, I keep looking at these headlines saying that it was an upset. No one expected you to win. Why why did you win? I ran a great campaign. Well, there you go. Some great advisers. We, we just did it right? Prince William county is going through incredible. Population growth, a huge amount of changing demographics. It used to be a pretty solidly Republican county, but of course, it went for Hillary Clinton in the presidential campaign and a couple of the delegates there in Richmond are now represented by Democrats. So what is your message to the people of Prince William county as a Republican? What do you think that needs to be what they know about you to win that election? My general Kip is going to be based on pocketbook and economic issues taxation spending on policy. Unseen caesar. Policies. Transverse both Republicans and Democrats. Okay. And so that's my plan. To get to the tax payers. Right. Both not strictly Republican platform anything like that. It's something that will kill to both. Well, let's talk about land use because I know that the issue of the Royal crescent down in Prince William county is, is very controversial. And something that means a lot to people. There are several who believed that there should be a Parkway, put through in the rural crescent and other developments. What do you say? Well. Now is that is that development into all question? Because. That's what the majority of landowners, what they wanna pee serve question. And so I will follow the two thousand nineteen. Juice document that we have this, no development, except on launch of Lynn and told the people will want to change that I will follow that what their wishes our guest is John gray. He's the Republican nominee for chairman of the Prince William county board of supervisors. I mentioned Corey Stewart who in that position. He held up position for several years for several terms. He really sort of his claim to fame. They're in that position had to do with his position with regard to illegal, immigration and making sure that there was robust cooperation with federal authorities, and that there was a major scrutiny over any sort of benefits if the county level that go to illegal immigrants do you differ from Mr. Stewart on that position? I agree with you on that one hundred percent. The go-to continue to seventy. West or the status of the person who they've stopped to see if there's a warrants outstanding and that thing at that point still should be turned on the ice. I will continue that I will not allow a Prince William county sanctuary Kelly as Fairfax county, and what is your opponents say, on that what is the democrat nominee say about sanctuary policies, and illegal immigration? Not injecting, advertisers that. Will be scintillating seventy but it's just. That's exactly what they do. They're willing to follow Fairfax county and not enforced in two thousand seventeen. Well, that's that's pretty important. And I would think that, that would mean a lot to the voters of Prince William county as there may. Campaign. Issue, they do not want to see county become sanctuary. I'm pretty sure in the last ten plus years the population Prince William county has grown about sixty to sixty five percent. It's been remarkable, and that means really bad traffic, you test anybody about life down there. And traffic is one of the first things they bring up as, as one of the real problems quality, life wise. What are your solutions there? Well. Become that way, because the first and after years down the road addressing the infrastructure required to support the house schools, libraries apply. My proposal is that we have plenty of notice when development is to become a hidden. We should at the same time start preparing for that development. And how we're going to put into those schools and supporting services, we shouldn't be waiting. The bond referendum coming. In november. Taking care of development. That's happened over this one years that shouldn't be able to start planning. Come come into say that we're gonna put a hundred houses at the corner in old bridge road. While why aren't we talking about how to fix the schools roads and one? Eleven hundred townhouses. That seems to be the right way to go. You would think hey, let's, let's let's figure out our infrastructure first before we start adding people in houses. John Gray's, our guest.
