Evangelism on SermonAudio
A highlight from Obeying God rather than Men
"Get 29 through 32, and then I'll pray and forgive you for the materiality. Let's read the text, Acts chapter 5, 29 through 32. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, we ought to obey God rather than men. Verse 30, the God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom he slew and hanged on a tree. Him as God exalted with his right hand to be a prince and a savior, for to give for to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins, and we are witnesses of these things. And so is also the Holy Ghost whom God has given to them that obey him. So let's pray, Father in heaven, all holy gods, we come before you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we know his blood cleanses us from all of our sin, his righteousness is our righteousness, and we come, Father, pleading Christ, and pray that you would give us understandings in your word today. May it bring light, may you work these things in our hearts for your glory and honor. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen. Jim, we can hear your phone from here. So, you see here that Peter says that we are witnesses of these things in verse 32, and really that's what a Christian is. Right? A Christian is a witness. In Acts chapter 1 and verse 8, the Lord Jesus says, when the Holy Spirit comes, what will happen? You will be witnesses of me in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and other most parts of the world. So we are witnesses. That's really what it means to evangelize, is that we are witnessing, or we are telling people what happened to us, right? Like someone's standing on the stand, someone's sitting at the stand in a courtroom, and they're being asked, what happened? Right? This is what evangelism is. It's something as we've been through that has happened to us. We are witnesses. By nature, every Christian is a witness. That doesn't mean every Christian evangelizes to the same degree that another does, right? Some of us go on the streets or go street preaching. Not everybody's called to do that, but in some way, every Christian is called to evangelize. Because it's what happened to us. It's our testimony as we started out with months ago with this study. But what I want to look at today is how the apostles understood and preached the gospel, versus the modern understanding of the gospel. So I want to do this from a polemic viewpoint. In other words, from a controversial viewpoint, a critical viewpoint, showing the difference between the modern gospel and the gospel that the apostles preached. And we must know the difference, right? Because I think there's a lot of people that have some basic understanding of the gospel, that Jesus Christ, you know, lived on earth, that he was God, that he died on the cross, and that he is my savior. Right? Isn't that the basic understanding of how people understand the gospel today? Which is fine. Those points are included in the gospel. So I don't want to look at those points. But what I want to look at is what is missing from the modern gospel. And when I say the modern gospel, I mean the gospel at large in Christendom. Throughout the mainline denominations down to the non -denominational churches, both charismatic and otherwise. So I think it is very important to make some general observations comparing the modern, what I would say, half true gospel with the true gospel preached by the apostles in the book of Acts. And a good way, I think, to compare the general gospel message today with the apostles' gospel is to look at a gospel tract. We'll just, I'll just go through it in a few minutes. Have you guys heard of what's called the Four Spiritual Laws? I call them the Four Spiritual Flaws. And we can use that as our example as the modern gospel. So the Four Spiritual Laws, you should understand, was printed in 1952. And it was written by a man named Bill Bright, right? Campus Crusade.

"A novena to St. Michael and the Holy Angels. O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and never shall be, world without end. Amen. Day 5. The Celestial Choir of Virtues. The Virtues specifically preside over the elements of the world in the process of celestial life. Thus, all heavenly bodies, from the stars and planets to the galaxies themselves, are kept in their divinely appointed routes and progress. On earth, the Virtues maintain a watch over nature, marking and guiding every facet of St. Thomas Aquinas in his Summa Theologica noted that virtues are in charge of miracles. As if these duties were not enough, the Virtues also assist humanity by bestowing grace and valor within the mortal heart. They give encouragement to the human to turn always to the good and help bolster the person's will to endure hardship and suffering and to have the personal strength to turn ever toward God. As the angels, in charge of miracles, they receive their orders from the powers, but they also are connected closely to the saints. By the intercession of St. Michael and the Celestial Choir of Virtues, may the Lord preserve us from evil and suffer us not to fall into temptation. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. O glorious Prince St. Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the divine king, and our admirable conductor, thou who dost shine with excellence in superhuman virtue, thou shaif to deliver us from all evil, who turn to thee with confidence, and enable us by thy gracious protection to serve God more and more faithfully every day. Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be made worthy of his promises. Almighty and everlasting God, who by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the salvation of all men, hast appointed the most glorious archangel St. Michael, Prince of thy church, make us worthy we beseech thee, to be delivered from all our enemies, that none of them may harass us at the hour of death, but that we may be conducted by him into the august presence of thy divine majesty. This we beg through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Amen.

The Dominations belong to that second triad with the virtues and powers, and are ranked fourth overall among the angelic choirs. The Dominations have the duty and the heavenly host of regulating the tasks of the angels, and through them the majesty of God is manifested. Through the efforts of the Dominations, who are naturally seen only rarely by mortals, the very order of the cosmos is maintained. They handle the minute details of cosmic life and existence, designating tasks to the lower orders of angels. The Dominations receive their instructions from the cherubim or thrones. By the intercession of St. Michael and the Celestial Choir of Dominations, may the Lord bear to give us grace to govern our senses and subdue our unruly passions. Amen. As it was in the beginning, is now, and never shall be, world without end. Amen. Day 3. The Celestial Choir of Thrones. The Thrones belong to the first and highest triad of the heavenly host, standing just below the Seraphim and the Cherubim. This position makes them some of the most powerful angels in the service of the Lord. According to St. Thomas Aquinas, the Thrones have the task of pondering the disposition of divine judgments, meaning that they carry out or fulfill the divine justice of the Lord. Like their counterparts in the first angelic triad, they come the closest of all angels to spiritual perfection and emanate the light of God with mirror -like goodness. They are, despite their greatness, intensely humble, an attribute that permits them to dispense justice with their perfect objectivity and without fear of pride or ambition. Because they are the living symbols of God's justice and authority, they are called thrones. By the intercession of St. Michael and the Celestial Choir of Thrones, may the Lord infuse into our hearts a true and sincere spirit of humility. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. The entire earth is full of his glory. This is a task that is not nearly as monotonous as it might seem to mortals, given the nature of angels who have perfect powers of concentration, and the delight that such an honor actually brings to the spirits. The Seraphim are most often identified with fire, not the burning, painful heat of hell, but the redemptive, healing flame of love, for they literally are living flames. The intensity of their adoration and pure love of God pour out of them as a flawless reflection of the divine love that emanates from the Lord. By the intercession of Saint Michael and the Celestial Choir of Seraphim, may the Lord make us worthy to burn with the fire of perfect charity. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. O glorious Prince Saint Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the divine King, and our admirable conductor, thou who dost shine with excellence in superhuman virtue, thou shaif to deliver us from all evil, who turn to thee with confidence, and enable us by thy gracious protection to serve God more and more faithfully every day. Pray for us, O glorious Saint Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be made worthy of his promises. Almighty and everlasting God, who by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the salvation of all men, hast appointed the most glorious Archangel Saint Michael, Prince of thy Church, make us worthy, we beseech thee, to be delivered from all our enemies, that none of them may harass us at the hour of death, but that we may be conducted by him into the august presence of thy divine majesty. This we beg through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Frank Tran's Approach to Ethics Is Rooted in Buddhism
"So two years ago, if I may ask, you were in a different place. If you were to compare then and now, do you think that your majoring in ethics has something to do with your growth? I think it's about the mission that I've learned that I gave to myself as a Buddhist because Buddha had the word that everyone is a Buddha. Okay. Do we discover a Buddha? I think you guys can look it up. It's a really interesting term. And I watched the stories Buddha drew. I could read it. I could sum up. It just, he used to be a prince in a castle and he climbed out the castle to experience and observe, witness all kinds of suffering. And then he shaved a head, bow, wear like a orange or dark, dark, what's the color like that? Orange, like a dark orange. And he sit right below the tree and meditate for days without eating and drinking and he become Buddha. And when he passed away, or no, when he turned into Buddha, his message is that by everyone is Buddha, everyone. I think that's the mission for me to give myself to helping people to find our Buddha is to find ourself. And today it's so stunning. I walk and I see the reflection of my shadow and I realize my shadow always with me all the

"Word of God. And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience, among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved, and raised us up with him, and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace and kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God, not a result of works so that no one may boast, for we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Thus far the reading of God's Word, brothers and sisters in Christ, you probably know that the word gospel means good news. You, most of you probably know this. When this concept is used in the Bible, it speaks of the proclamation that whatever was wrong has now been made right. And just a very brief survey of this in the Old Testament, perhaps the most famous passage and well -known passage for the concept of the gospel is found in Isaiah 52 verse 7. It goes like this, how beautiful upon the mountains, now keep a, put a pause on that phrase right there, how beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who says to Zion your God reigns. It's upon the mountains. You get this picture that's there that the runner is taking his position on perhaps the tallest peak of whatever mountain is around Jerusalem and he's shouting to everybody your God reigns. In other words it's a very public thing. It's not a private thing. It has to do there with the announcement that the exiles are returned from captivity. Yay! It's a very public thing. He's got thousands of people right there right behind him or a couple hours they're gonna storm your city and it's a good thing. This is how we know that your God reigns. In the time of the New Testament it refers to a person who was designated to run or sail in front of an army that just won the battle against the enemy. And the guy would call out to the city in very similar terms, we've won! I don't know if he would fist pump or anything like that but this person who would bring good news, he was referred to in the New Testament times as an evangelist, the one who brings good news. He would bring good news of victory for the good guys, good news of defeat for the bad guys and there'd be this kind of nonverbal understanding that everybody okay if you're not a part of that city if you're not a part of that country there would be this nonverbal understanding that y 'all better get your act together right and get in line with this king who just won this victory. This message of victory would then bring confidence that you belong to the right king and he can defend you and he can fight your battles for you. I mean what a good news, what a sense of confidence that you would have in your king who just fought for you. We've been thinking about how the church heralds this gospel of Jesus Christ for a number of weeks now largely because of the Boardwalk Chapel trip and if you were here last week you kind of got a little snippet of what our students did out there. They sang the gospel, we showed a little program of a little bit of what we do there with singing of the gospel, they did skits that are based upon the gospel, you've seen how they've evangelized to me, even as I played the role of someone who they, an average person who they would normally find out in the boards and stuff like that, and how they led me to Christ. This is something of the product of what we've been meditating on for a bit now. Firstly we've seen the why of missions and evangelism. Why is it that we do missions and evangelism in the first place? We saw firstly that that it has to do with the mission itself. We also saw that it has to do with, which by the way the mission as we saw in Ephesians 1, it begins firstly primarily in the mind of God. Okay and then moving out a little bit farther we've seen this because of the mandate that that we have and the means that we have in order to do it. And then we moved on to think of the how of missions and evangelism, just how is it that this is to be done? Well we're to do it with confidence, with readiness and joy. Oh tonight we're going to be looking at the what of missions and evangelism, particularly evangelism for us. In other words okay pastor I get I get it. I get the philosophy of it. I get the theology behind it. I understand kind of the head knowledge that the conversion of the sinner is on God's terms and it's according to God's provision. It's according to his means. Okay I get I get this. And I also get the sociology. I also get the psychology of that it that I need to be confident. I need to be sure in the success of God's plan that I should be ready, that I should be joyful in doing this. Okay I get that. But what do I say? What is it that that I say or what are the basic kind of basal concepts that are in that that should be in my mind to inform me or kind of orient me towards evangelistic activity? Just what do I do? What do I say? Well that'll be on tonight's agenda. The what of missions and evangelism. And there's many ways to do this, many programs available. I suppose you could get kind of just pick one that suits you best. But what we'll be doing just tonight is to survey the most basic, the three most basic concepts that should be on your mind in the work of evangelism particularly. Firstly as it is written in your bulletin, the power of the law. Secondly the problem of the heart. And then thirdly the provision of the gospel. And to start our first point I want us I want to emphasize something to you. Take a look again at Ephesians chapter 2. I want to overemphasize this to you that Ephesians chapter 2 is my personal go -to location for whenever I share the gospel or whenever I have to think about something with a gospel lens. Ephesians 2 is my go -to. This is perhaps my number one passage that I most often go to for all things gospel related. So if you want to put a star on this page or perhaps put a perpetual bookmark here or whatever you will be very well served in knowing this passage, knowing the address of this passage. I've turned to this passage many times on many occasions with all manner of people coming from all kinds of backgrounds. Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Muslims, so -called progressive Christians, many many others. I found that this passage at least for me most sufficiently expresses the end the essence of the gospel. I've also found that it handles a lot of errors and misunderstandings about the gospel as well. We can say that Ephesians chapter 2, this passage that we just read out of just a second ago, gives us a fulsome and yet digestible survey of the entirety of the Christian experience which makes this passage fit the book of Ephesians rather well actually might I say. It fits the book of Ephesians as a whole very very well. This book, mind you, doesn't have a specified reason for it being written. It's about the basics of the Christian life and our unity with with Christ, our union with Christ, and our unity with one another. And so this passage fits this book very well. So all that to say that I highly commend to you this passage for your reference. There's other passages like this but please have this very passage for your quick reference memory. But for the power of the law, we're looking at the power of the law right now, we come to Ephesians chapter 2 verse 1, our passage which says, and you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience. Well the first order of business in terms of the what of evangelism, at least when I do it, is the exposure of a life that's lived in defiance of God. You got to expose, we got to expose a life that is lived in defiance of God. In other words, we start with what's most obvious, that there are trespasses and sins in which the unconverted currently walk and by which they are characterized. They're known in the Bible as those who commit trespasses, those who commit sins. Now the technical difference, mind you, between trespasses and sins is something of the knowledge and their wilfulness. A sin in the Bible is a missing of a target, that's what a sin is. It's when someone tries to do the right thing but can't quite get there because of some default, they fall short of what they're supposed to do, they fall short of the glory of God, they fall short of what they're striving for, it's a missing of the target. A trespass on the other hand is an overstepping of a known boundary, it's an overstepping of a known boundary. It's an awareness that something is right and yet they want to do whatever is opposed to it anyways and they end up doing that. In short, technically, sins are when people don't do what they're supposed to do and trespasses are when people do what they're not supposed to do. Now the authors of the Bible don't always bring this distinction out all the time, mainly because they're making other points. I'm thinking of 1st John 3 verse 4. John there says sin is transgression of the law, he doesn't make that distinction as apparent right there as Paul does in this this passage. He's making another point in that very passage but here in our passage Paul highlights the relationship between the two. Now the big question that underlies this very passage is the question, what determines sin? What determines sin? How do you know what constitutes a transgression? And this is where the power of the law comes in really handy. Just as in verse 2 you see you're following the course of this of this world, the spirit is now at work and the sons of disobedience. Just as disobedience can only rightly be demarcated by whatever obedience looks like, sins can only be known in reference to the law of God, specifically in the Ten Commandments. Okay, sins can only be known in reference to the law of God, particularly in the Ten Commandments. So what we have here is that any lack of conformity unto or transgression of the law means that something is sinful. And so how do you apply this to evangelism? Well we start with the power of the law that exposes sin. Usually I say something like this to someone, have you ever lied? It's a very cut -and -dry sort of question, have you both have told lies before? Okay, have you ever hated someone? Matthew chapter 2 chapter 5 verse 22, Jesus says that if you've hated anyone, as a matter of fact if you've even called them a fool, you've committed murder in the eyes of God. So we've lied, we've also committed murder in God's eyes. Have you ever used God's name in vain? God calls that blasphemy, right? So we've lied, even if it's a if the of use the name of God as something that's a throwaway statement. That's tantamount to blasphemy. It's taking the name of God in vain in the Hebrew literally means as though it were nothing. It were a thing of vanity. It's just like anything else. So using the name of God as a throwaway term, which our culture is very, it's a very popular thing to do nowadays, that's the essence of breaking that commandment to take the name of God, to not take the name of God in vain. That's called blasphemy. So we've lied, we've murdered, we've committed blasphemy in God's eyes, and we could keep going I suppose in order to show that we've done all manner of things according to the Ten Commandments. We've committed adultery, we've coveted, we violated the Sabbath, we've dishonored our parents and so on. The law of God is able to expose sins for exactly what they are. Now this is a tactic that I do. I kind of hang out there for a little bit, okay. I kind of hang out there for a little bit in order to drive the sentence of guilt to their hearts from the from the mouth of God himself, from the very law of God. I kind of hang out there in order so that they they know they come into personal contact with the sins that they've committed. So the law therefore is a base indicator that kind of equalizes everyone out and determines that all people everywhere have sinned, all people everywhere have transgressed the law of God, and all people everywhere are in need of grace and mercy. This is where you start with the power of the law. Secondly we move on to the next related point, the problem of the heart. Verse 3, here we see something of a progression of sorts. It continues from the previous verse where we read of the sons of disobedience, among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind. In the last couple of verses that that we considered understand we that the law of God has the ability to call sin exactly what it is. The law of God has the power to call sin, sin. Therefore we know that our actions are sinful in some way. In other words we've either not lived up to the commands of God or we've willfully broken it. However I want you to see that there's a progression here in that verse 3 diagnoses the reason why we've acted in disobedience it's because it's what comes most natural to us. And the reason why it's most natural to us is because there is a problem with our hearts. That's the reason. There's a problem with our hearts, the innermost aspects of our being. God doesn't merely recognize us outside of Christ as quote people who commit trespasses and sins, right? Even particular ones. As much as he recognizes those outside of Christ as sinners, transgressors. In other words as Saint Augustine says we don't we're not sinners because we sin. We sin because we're sinners. Again we don't sin I'm we're sinners. In my version of it sin indicates that someone is a sinner. It's far worse to be a sinner than it is to have committed sin in God's eyes. And we can see this in our passage here. Namely that we all as the passage says once lived in the passions of our flesh. Now that doesn't mean that you know the body is a bad thing or you know to have a desire is is a bad thing or something like like that. He means when he says this this phrase he means that the passions of our flesh stand in stark contrast to the will of God. And it's the passions of our flesh that produce the transgressions and the sins in which we once walked. In other words the corruption of the heart is the very standpoint from which all actual sins take place. Most commonly we refer to this as original sin which is the problem of the heart. Original sin is the problem of the heart. That is we inherit or we are imputed with as the theological term the guilt and the corruption of Adam's first sin to us. His sin nature becomes ours by being from Adam's line under his headship. And this means that when we sin we sin out of our own sin nature. Again original sin is the position of the heart. It is the problem of the heart that all of us had which affects all aspects of all of our being. I say I usually say this that that sins are not as great as sin is. And this forms for us mind you one of the strongest standpoints that again flattens the whole of humanity out so that every single one of us are in one box. Makes really it makes things very convenient that sins the sins that are pointed out by the law of God indicates that we are sinners. The problem has never been any one sin. The problem has never been any one transgression that has kept us from the grace of God. It's our whole sinful nature that is itself the problem. And so long as the sin nature is there as long as verse 3 says as long as we are by nature children of identifies us as rebels and therefore we're we become worthy recipients of his wrath and curse. So how do I bring this to people? I'm glad you asked. How do we know what do we say? I begin something by saying yes if you've lied you've stolen you've blasphemed in God's eyes you've murdered you probably have done a lot more things and you've most likely done them knowing that they're wrong. You know why that is? You know why you've acted in this way? You know why you have done this? It's because that you have a heart that produces wickedness. Jesus says in Mark chapter 7 verse 21 out of the heart comes evil thoughts out of the heart comes sexual immorality theft murder adultery coveting wickedness deceit sensuality envy slander pride foolishness all these things come from within and they defile a person.

Evangelism on SermonAudio
A highlight from Guided Into Truth
"Well, as you heard announced this morning, today is a special day for our church. The air is getting a little bit cooler, a little more crisp. The rain is starting to come and fall kickoff is happening. This means many of our ministries and programs are getting kicked off, ending their summer hiatus and getting rolling for the coming year. Now in conversations I was having with the guys on our pastoral staff earlier in the summer about the different ideas for fall kickoff, themes to go with, emphases to put out there. We had a bunch of different ideas and I won't share with you the ideas that ended up on the cutting room floor, but I will restate our theme for fall kickoff this year is guided into truth, which I think is a theme that really encapsulates what we are to be all about as followers of Jesus Christ, right? I mean, when you think about it, for those of us who are followers of Jesus Christ in the room this morning, we have been guided into truth in the ultimate sense in that someone somewhere at some point in time shared the gospel with us. They shared the good news message of Jesus Christ dying and Jesus Christ rising and Jesus Christ saving sinners like you and me so that our sins could be forgiven and our hope of eternal life secured. And then we responded to that gospel with repentance and faith turning from the sin that once had its claws in us to put our trust now in Christ finished work on the cross. So we we have been guided into truth in that sense. Now. We're also called to guide others into truth. And if we're faithful to Christ and obedient to his Great Commission for his followers, we guide others into truth. That's what we do. That's what we're marked by we do so around our dinner tables as we teach our children about Christ and we do so at our family gatherings as we openly recognize that all that we have the roofs over our heads the air in our lungs the food in our tables the experiences that we get to share together. They are all because of Christ we do so at church whether we hold a formal teaching post or not. We give instruction and encouragement and exhortation from God's Word pointing other people people around us to Christ and then for a select few we guide others into truth by sharing the gospel message with the lost for some that means doing so through door -to -door evangelism for some that means at the Holmes Lake prayer tower for others. This happens more organically and the day -to -day evangelism that you've heard spoken of more recently where people are more adept at moving their conversations from more of mundane topics, you know, the weather and Husker football and the like to the gospel and getting to the hope that's found in Jesus Christ. Well today's message is going to have one aim and the bull's eye that I've been praying that this message would hit is to press in on this notion that evangelism is the territory or the realm of only that select few in the church. I'm going to throw the flag on the thought process that goes John Kerry is the deacon of evangelism and therefore John Kerry and his team. Those are the evangelists of the church. I'm going to challenge those of you who whether through fear or or laziness let's just get real here a lack of concern and love for those who are truly lost or abandoning your responsibility to do what Christ has commanded you and I both to do which is to share the gospel with the lost. I'm going to exhort you this morning to stop warming the bench and to get in the game. So last week we looked at prayer you might recall from Colossians this morning. We're looking at evangelism. I figured I could complete the trio of all topics that people like to hear about giving maybe next Sunday. No, but I'm going to say what needs to be said about being more evangelistically minded individually and as members of this body of believers to be more faithful in sharing the gospel not from a place of personal preference or desire because that really doesn't matter here. I'm going to speak to you through a text of scripture one that is very familiar to many of us and a text that is so rich in terms of the description it provides and the picture it paints of what it means to be guided into truth and what it looks like to guide another into truth turn with me if you would in your Bibles to Acts chapter 8 Acts chapter 8 Matthew Mark Luke John Acts book number five of the New Testament. We're going to hit pause on our series and Colossians this week so that we as a church body in keeping with our fall kickoff theme this week can zero in on this text where we encounter someone who was guided into truth and also see someone who is guiding another into truth. We're going to look at Acts 8 25 through 40 this morning. I'm going to try to take the whole bite. We'll see how I do this morning sermon has five points. They're all alliterated. We're going to see the context first in verse 25 in leading up to verse 25. We're going to see the command in verse 26. We'll see the contact in verses 27 through 30 the conversion in verses 31 through 35 and then the consequences in verses 36 through 40 now since today's passage or today's sermon is one of these one -off sermons before we just drop ourselves into this passage. It would be important and good if we establish some of the context. So as we look at the context here first point number one, let's look at some of the background here. The Book of Acts was humanly speaking written by Luke the same Luke who gave us the Gospel of Luke and what both the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts revealed to us very clearly is that Luke was a very detailed and meticulous historian. We see that over in the Gospel of Luke the very beginning verses of Luke Luke 1 3 where he says this to Theophilus who is the immediate recipient of the gospel. He says it seemed fitting for me as well having investigated everything carefully from the beginning to write it out for you in consecutive order. So we see how meticulous already Luke was and then here in the Book of Acts, which is really part 2 of Luke's writing the sequel as it were to the Gospel of Luke. He continues on and giving this very precise and detailed historical account of the early church. In fact, let's go ahead and take a few moments to do a real high -level flyover of the first seven chapters of Acts leading up to our text for today. In fact, go with me over to Acts 1 and you can do the flyover with me. In Acts 1 we see that the resurrected Christ appeared to his apostles and according to Acts 1 3 he did this over a period of 40 days and spoke of the things concerning the kingdom of God and then over the course of those 40 days and at the conclusion of those 40 days the Lord said to his apostles over in Acts 1 8 that they will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all of Judea and Samaria and even to the remotest part of the earth file that statement away in your minds, by the way, we're going to come back to it a couple of times this morning then in Acts 1 9 we see Luke recording the Ascension of our Lord to the right hand of the Father where he is seated today says after he had said these things he was lifted up while they were looking on and a cloud received him out of their sight then in Acts 2 Luke gives an account of the day of Pentecost one of the traditional Jewish feast days what was Pentecost and this is the day on which the Holy Spirit as Christ had earlier promised would happen descended and fell on that assembly there in Jerusalem. This is the day on which the Apostle Peter gave one of the most powerful sermons ever preached and according to Acts 241 about 3 ,000 souls came to Christ were converted through that preaching of Peter Acts 3 were told more about the ministry now of both Peter and John still in Jerusalem. We see that Peter heals a lame beggar in this chapter and then Peter also delivers a second sermon from the portico of Solomon and in this sermon the second sermon Peter gives in Acts 3 15 he calls out the Jews of the day as it says here in verse 3 15 for having put to death the Prince of life the one whom God raised from the dead a fact to which we are witnesses that in Acts 4 we see the arrest of Peter and John recorded and then we see their interactions with Annas and Caiaphas and other Jewish high priests and it's in front of those high priests that Peter filled with the Holy Spirit Acts 4 12 says this and there is salvation and no one else for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved then over in Acts 5 Luke gives the account of the second arrest of Peter and John and the other apostles we see that they were flawed and eventually released and after they were flawed and after they were released Acts 5 41 says they went on their way from the presence of the council rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for his name in the very next verse Acts 5 42 says while they were still there in Jerusalem every day in the temple they go from house to house and they kept right on teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ in Acts 6 Luke tells us verse 7 that the Word of God kept on spreading in the number of disciples continue to increase greatly in Jerusalem and then the very next verse Acts 6 8 we are introduced to Stephen who full of grace and power was performing great wonders and signs among the people and then the remainder of Acts 6 we see that Stephen was then brought up for trial essentially before the Jewish leaders on charges of blasphemy then in Acts 7 Luke gives us this very detailed account of the the bold testimony and defense that Stephen gave which included him turning the tables and indicting the very people who were trying to indict him for having murdered their Messiah the Lord Jesus Christ and that doesn't go very well for Stephen because we see in Acts 7 54 says when they had heard this meaning Stevens testimony and indictment of them they were cut to the quick and they began gnashing their teeth at him and then the rest of Acts 7 records Stevens ultimate death by stoning Acts 8 now begins with these words in verse 1 Saul the one who would later become known as Paul was in hardy agreements with putting him meaning Stephen to death and then look at the very next words and on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria and what does that remind you of what we saw back in Acts 1 8 where Christ himself said to his followers that you shall be my witnesses from Jerusalem to Judea to Samaria and then to the remotest part of the earth now take a look at Acts 8 4 we're going to work our way closer and closer to our text because Acts 8 4 here really sets up the immediate context where we'll be today says therefore those who had been scattered out of Jerusalem it means went about preaching the word Philip went down to the city of Samaria and began proclaiming Christ to them the crowds with one Accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip as they heard and saw the signs which he was performing from the case of many who had unclean spirits they were coming out of them shouting with a loud voice and many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.

Will PayPal USD, aka PYUSD, succeed where others have failed? We're going to dive into the pros and cons. It's time to discover crypto. If you're new to the cryptoverse, you may be wondering what exactly is a stablecoin. It's a coin for horses. I'm kidding. It's all in the name, baby. A stablecoin is meant to do exactly that, maintain a stable price. Many of them are pegged to the US dollar. It's a way for investors and traders to keep their assets on the blockchain without having to deal with extreme price volatility. Well, at least that's what's supposed to happen with stables as long as they maintain their peg. If you want an example of what happens when a stablecoin loses its peg, take a look at our video on Terra UST. In case you've been living under a rock with all your cash buried in some dragon's lair, PayPal has a veritable monopoly on online payments. Founded in 1998, the company went public in 2002 and was soon taken over by eBay. Fast forward to today, the company has expanded astronomically and subsequently gobbled up would -be competitors like Venmo, Zoom and Zettle and many others. It also boasts 435 million users at time of recording. The original team is actually referred to as the PayPal Mafia. You'll recognize some familiar faces including Elon Musk, Yammer's David O. Sachs, LinkedIn's Reid Hoffman and Jawad Karim, who co -founded our own little slice of paradise, YouTube. So my question is, with Elon Musk's historic ties to PayPal, will the PayPal stablecoin become the favored cryptocurrency for X? Unseeding would -be Prince of X, doge? Leave a comment below and tell us what you think. PayPal's stablecoin release also comes a couple months after the announcement that Celsius will use it to distribute payments to its creditors, a decision that has sparked outrage and questions from Celsius's creditors. Raking in fees for millions of bankrupt Celsius isn't a great way to start your stablecoin debut. Now, PayPal has been interested in crypto for a while. They first allowed customers to buy, and hold a short list of cryptocurrencies back in 2020, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash. Then in 2022, they finally began supporting crypto withdrawals and deposits in and out of PayPal. And PYUSD is their latest attempt to make a name for themselves in the Web3 landscape. They announced its development at the beginning of 2022, but then pulled back citing regulatory issues. Was it you, Gary? But I guess their concerns are no more because there are full steam ahead with their stablecoin pursuits. Okay, enough about lost funds and heartbreak. Why would PayPal want to get into the stablecoin game in the first place? Well, it turns out stablecoins can be quite a lucrative business worth around $120 billion. PYUSD's top competitors Tether and USDC both have remarkable profits this year. Tether is projected to bring in $6 billion, while Circle, the parent company of USDC, has brought in $779 million so far this year. If PayPal can capture even a percentage of this market, they could bring in some serious bank. How do these companies do it? Well, both USDT and USDC maintain their peg by holding cash and investing in US Treasuries. And the yields of these Treasuries have soared to 5 % recently, so they're able to bring in a lot of profit and able to add to their reserves. PayPal intends to follow a similar model with the stablecoin being backed by USD bank deposits, US Treasuries and US Treasure reverse repurchase agreements held in custody by Paxos. You may recognize the name Paxos for managing the soon -to -be -deceased Binance stablecoin BUSD, which Binance has taken off the market due to SEC lawsuit. RIP. PayPal has announced that Paxos will begin issuing monthly reserve reports in September 2023, and these reports will be verified by an external and supposedly impartial accounting firm. Can we just get Kevin an Oscar? Remember, guys, having a public and verifiable proof of reserve is so important, not only for stablecoins, but also for exchanges. Make sure you do your research before you buy or send your crypto places. PYUSD is an ERC -20 token written in Solidity and running on the Ethereum blockchain. You can exchange PYUSD for fiat as well as send it to other PayPal users and buy crypto on PayPal's platform. You can also buy from PayPal's merchants, and PayPal will send PYUSD to make the purchase. There are zero fees to send this stablecoin to other PayPal users, but there are fees for buying cryptocurrencies and withdrawing PayPal USD from the platform. Currently, you can withdraw or deposit PYUSD and it's compatible with Metamask and Coinbase Wallet, soon to be supported by Venmo. A week after PayPal's stablecoin mania hit the media, Ledger, one of the top cold storage wallet solutions, announced that its users would be able to buy crypto with their PayPal accounts. Coinbase has allowed American and Canadian users to buy crypto with their PayPal accounts for a while, but recently, Coinbase partnered with PayPal to bring this option to users in Germany and the UK. This comes in handy since PayPal decided to pause crypto purchases on its own platform in the UK, citing financial regulatory shifts. With all these exchanges supporting PayPal accounts to purchase crypto, it seems like only a matter of time before Ledger and other wallets begin to support PYUSD as well. Currently, you can get your hands on some PYUSD on Coinbase, Kraken, Gate .io and Crypto .com if you don't want to buy it from the PayPal platform. Right now, we're a little less than a month into their release, so are people actually using it? Well, it seems like members of the crypto community have been a bit wary so far. The block reported that smart money is avoiding the coin and smaller investors are as well. And really, can you blame them? Most people are still traumatized from the Terra fiasco. And why would you switch your funds from Tether or USDC when they've stood the test of time? There have also been concerns about PYUSD launching on ETH and associated high fees. And there are real regulatory concerns here in the US. Congresswoman Maxine Waters, the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, was quick to wag the finger at PayPal and yell, Shame! Shame on you! She's mad at business as giant as PayPal would move forward with a stablecoin without federal regulatory framework. She may want to point that finger right back at herself because the Fed is at fault here twofold. One, they allowed PayPal to get this giant. And two, they can't figure out how to actually regulate the space. Probably due to our officials being older than dinosaurs. Look at this! Are you kidding me? Another issue that has some worried is that PYUSD is centralized and has a sordid history of randomly freezing people's accounts. And last year, the company threatened to fine users up to $2500 to posting misinformation. After immense backlash, PayPal retracted the statement saying it was an error. The terms and conditions of PYUSD also state, PayPal can stop supporting the stablecoin at any time without informing holders. All of this has members of the cryptoverse worrying that PayPal would arbitrarily freeze or deduct PYUSD from their accounts just like the big banks are able to do. Well, don't freeze up yourself. Hit that like button and subscribe to the channel to discover more crypto. PayPal freezing accounts is not good. We want control over our funds and the right to privacy. But just for context, Tether and USDC are centralized as well. Tether is held by an international company, and USDC boasts BlackRock, Fidelity, and Coinbase among their investors. So nothing is totally safe. And while it's great PYUSD has added the trove of stablecoin options, the space really needs more decentralized stablecoins. Okay, so now I want to mention a few reasons PYUSD makes me feel bullish for crypto in general. Anytime a TradFi company gets into crypto signals wider adoption. And PayPal could be going after a completely different retail demographic for PYUSD, which would explain the slow adoption. But the coolest thing about PayPal launching a stablecoin is the ability to pay for things IRL without taking funds off the blockchain. You can already use PYUSD to pay millions of merchants through PayPal. This kind of thing has started on a small scale elsewhere, but PayPal is going to majorly increase mass adoption. I don't think we're far away from being able to pay our rent with crypto through Venmo or PayPal. And that kind of thing makes me bullish. It gives me chills up my spine. Guys, I can hear the bull market calling. Can you hear it too? And it says, Wind Moon. That's all for me. Thanks for watching Discover Crypto! Hit that like button on your way out. And we'll see you at the top.

Evangelism on SermonAudio
A highlight from Acts 025 - The Spirit's Power
"Okay, well come on in. The water's fine. Good to see you all this evening. And welcome back to our Wednesday night Bible study. We took a summer break. And in the last quarter, we started a study on the book of Acts. Made it all the way through chapter 3. And this morning, not this morning, this evening, if you could locate Acts chapter 4 and verse 1. Sort of to get the cobwebs out. The book of Acts is about the birth and the growth of the church. So in Acts chapter 1, Jesus ascended. In Acts chapter 2, the church is born. Day of Pentecost. In Acts chapter 3, Peter and John heal a lame man. I think he was born lame. He was about 38 years old. And his legs were miraculously restored in Acts 3. Which gave Peter a chance to preach to a crowd. And Peter there condemns 1st century Israel for their rejection of the Messiah. And chapter 3, as you surely could imagine, flows right into chapter 4. Where Peter and John get arrested. So here's an outline of Acts 4. Even going into Acts 5, the Ananias and Sapphira incident. But you have the apostles arrested, verses 1 through 4. The apostles examined by the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin is the existing Jewish legal authority, religious authority in 1st century Israel. That's in verses 5 through 12. Then the Sanhedrin makes a decision, verses 13 through 22. And then the apostles go to prayer. And this is a very powerful prayer that they pray in verses 23 through 31. And then the chapter kind of ends with them, the church that is living in their communal arrangement. Which we saw develop in Acts at the end of Acts 2. And that sets the stage very nicely for the first 11 chapters in chapter 5. Because in that communal arrangement, it involved selling your property and giving the proceeds to the church. And there was a couple there, Ananias and Sapphira, who publicly misrepresented their generosity. And they were slain in the Holy Spirit. And when I say slain in the Holy Spirit, that's not a good thing. Okay. And God brought upon them maximum divine discipline. And that had, as we're going to see, a purifying effect on the early church. So anyway, that's kind of the lay of the land that we're moving into this evening. I don't think we'll be able to cover all of this this evening, but we can make a healthy start. First of all, the apostles are arrested. We have an interruption. The reasons for the arrest. The arrest and the results of the arrest. So notice, if you will, Acts chapter 4, verse 1. It says, as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to them. So when it says they were speaking to the people, this is in reference to the sermon that Peter primarily was giving in Acts 3. Where they healed a man who was lame, born lame. He knew nothing but the lack of use of his legs for, I think it says, 38 years. And he's miraculously healed, not by Peter and John, but by Jesus through Peter and John. It's just Jesus is exercising his ministry now from the Father's right hand. Through the church, through the apostles. And a big crowd gathers and Peter uses the opportunity to condemn first century Israel. Their decision nationally to reject their own Messiah. So that's what it means there when it says as they were speaking to the people. So as they were speaking to the people, they're now interrupted by the religious authorities. Who are the religious authorities? It says it right there in verse 1 of chapter 4. The priests, the captain of the temple guard, and the Sadducees. So these are religious officials or workers. We have priests, the captain of the temple guard, and another group here called the Sadducees. And easy to remember the Sadducees is the Sadducees were always sad, you see. Sadducees. Basically, the Sadducees were people that if we were to try to parallel them today with somebody, we would call them theological liberals. A theological liberal denies what the Bible says. You know, it denies prophecy, denies miracles, and that kind of thing. And that's who these Sadducees were. The Sadducees only believed in the first five books of Moses. That's all they believed in. They didn't accept the rest of the Old Testament. So that's why when Jesus is talking to them about resurrection, the Sadducees, and the Gospels, he does not quote from Daniel chapter 12, verse 2 to prove resurrection to them. I mean, why didn't he quote Daniel 12, verse 2? Daniel 12, verse 2 is a great verse on future resurrection. It says, many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but others to everlasting disgrace, to disgrace and everlasting contempt. So why didn't Jesus, when he is arguing with the Sadducees and the Gospels about resurrection, why doesn't he quote that passage? That's a beautiful passage to quote from. Well, the answer is the Sadducees did not accept Daniel as authoritatively coming from God. They only accepted the first five books of the Bible. So it wouldn't do any good to prove resurrection from the Book of Daniel to the Sadducees. So instead, Jesus quotes the Book of Exodus. And I'm getting this from Matthew 22, 32 and 31. Here he's speaking to the Sadducees and it says, but regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God? And now he's quoting Exodus. the I am God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. He is not the God of the dead, but the living. In other words, he points out that based on the Book of Exodus, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are alive right now. And he uses that to prove future resurrection. So why would he quote that passage? Because that's one of the books they would accept. He doesn't quote the more obvious passage because the Sadducees did not accept anything other than the Pentateuch, the Torah, the first five books of Hebrew Bible. The Sadducees were also sad, you see, not only because they denied all other scripture outside of Moses, but they denied resurrection. That's why Jesus is debating them about resurrection. They did not believe in angels. Acts 23 and verse 8 says, for the Sadducees say there is no resurrection, nor an angel. Matthew 22 and verse 30 indicates that the Sadducees didn't believe in resurrection. So you're dealing with people that only believed in the first five books of Moses. They didn't believe in angels. They didn't believe in resurrection. So Sadducee is a pretty good name for these people, right? I mean, I would be sad too if I had a limited acceptance of the authority of the totality of what God has revealed. The Sadducees are a little bit different than the Pharisees. In fact, they're a lot different. In the Sadducees, we can analogize them to modern day theological liberals. Pharisees were conservatives, but they were hyper legalists. They brought in, and this goes back to the Babylonian captivity, the Jewish rejection of the Sabbath sent the nation of Israel into the Babylonian captivity for 70 years. And when the nation of Israel came out of that captivity and came back into their homeland, they said to themselves, we're never going to let that happen again. And so they built what we call a fence around the law. Meaning we're going to pass so many laws against breaking the Sabbath that no one will ever think about breaking the Sabbath. So they had all these rules about how you couldn't eat on the Sabbath. You know, you couldn't rescue a man on the Sabbath. All of these things come into the life of Israel through something called Mishnah, and then Talmud, and there were two Talmuds. There was one in the land of Israel. There was a later one developed in what's called the Babylonian Talmud. And this is why Jesus said of the Pharisees, you make null the word of God through your traditions. Because what happened is the tale started to wag the dog. They started to read the law superimposed over the law were a bunch of man -made regulations and restrictions. So when Jesus is dealing with the Pharisees, he's always dealing with this issue. You know, he's feeding his disciples on the Sabbath. Pharisees are upset about that. He's healing people on the Sabbath. Pharisees are upset about that. And what are they upset about? They're upset about the fact that he's not respecting their rules. Where Jesus' point is the tale's wagging the dog. Your rules are being superimposed over God's actual law to the point where you're burying the original intent of the law under layer after layer after layer of man -made regulation. So Jesus, as the Lord of the Sabbath, was always trying to get back to what the Sabbath meant. It was supposed to be a blessing for man. Pharisees are saying, nope, you can't do anything on the Sabbath. You can't heal someone on the Sabbath, even though that's a blessing for man. You can't feed your disciples on the Sabbath, you know, pick crops and that kind of thing on the Sabbath. Even though that's a blessing for man, you're ruining our rules. So that's a little bit of who the Pharisees were. Pharisees are conservative, but they're beyond conservative. They're hyper legalists. Sadducees are just deniers of what the totality of God's word says. The Pharisees are going to be dominant in the synagogue. They had a higher sphere of influence in the synagogue. What was the synagogue? The synagogue were these places that Jews would gather, you know, all over the Greco -Roman world. And they gathered there during a time when there was no temple to go to. Remember the temple, the first temple that Solomon built was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar and wasn't rebuilt until the days of Ezra, Haggai, Zechariah. So what did the Jews do? They would gather in the Greco -Roman world in these places called the synagogue. And the Pharisees were dominant in the synagogue. The Sadducees, as I'm trying to describe it, were dominant in the temple area. So that's why the people that are harassing the apostles in early Acts, really all the way up through Acts chapter 12, are the Sadducees and not the Pharisees. Because the Sadducees had ascendancy in the temple area. In Acts 1 through 12, the early church hadn't spread out yet. And it had a very strong sphere of influence in Jerusalem. So that's why the early church is dealing with the Sadducees, the Sadducees, the Sadducees, the Sadducees, until the Apostle Paul in Acts 13 and 14 goes out on missionary journey number one into southern Galatia. And then you'll start seeing him going to the various synagogues outside the land of Israel. And now the people coming against Paul are not the Sadducees, but now they're the Pharisees. So Sadducees, liberals, Pharisees, legalists. Sadducees dominant in the temple area, Pharisees dominant in the synagogue. Sadducees will be dominant as long as the church has a place of influence in Jerusalem. But the Pharisees as opponents of the church will become dominant as the church spreads out and moves outside the land of Israel. So verse one says, as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to them. That's a little bit about who the Sadducees are and why they are the primary detractors of the church at this particular point. So Peter and John, Peter's conversation that he was having in Acts three, a very effective conversation is interrupted. The reasons for the interruption are given in verse two. It says being, now notice this, not just disturbed, but greatly disturbed. Being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and in proclaiming Jesus the resurrection from the dead. So here are these apostles and if you drop over to verse 13 for a minute, you see the way that the religious authorities looked at the apostles. It says, now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus. So what is upsetting to the Sadducees is number one, these apostles are teaching the people and they never went to our Sadducee school. I mean, they don't have a Sadducee degree. In other words, they don't think like we do. I mean, if these apostles thought the way we thought, then they would only accept Moses. They would reject angels. They would reject resurrection. And here are these men who are untrained fishermen teaching the masses there in Acts chapter three. In other words, they don't have the authority to be teaching anybody is how the Sadducees were thinking about the apostles. And what really upset them is they kept talking about Christ's, but starts it with an R, resurrection, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. Now that was really upsetting to the Sadducees because the Sadducees didn't believe in resurrection. And here they're claiming that the man that the nation of Israel just turned over to Rome for execution has risen from the dead and his tomb is empty. That doesn't fit our doctrine. The Sadducees would say to themselves. And this puts the apostles on a collision course with the Sadducees. The moment Peter in Acts 2 24, which is a wonderful sermon, said these words, he became, I think at that point, a marked man by the Sadducees. Peter said, but God, speaking of Jesus, raised him up again, putting an end to the agony of defeat, since it was impossible for him to be held by its power. Peter continues the subject matter in Acts chapter three and that sermon there in verse 15. And it says, but put to death, speaking of Israel, the prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead. And he says a fact to which we are witnesses. Remember what Paul would say to the Corinthians. Now there's 500 eyewitnesses, 1 Corinthians 15. Check it out for yourself. They've all seen the resurrected Christ. So what they were saying is Israel rejected her own Messiah. That made the Sadducees angry enough. So then they said this Messiah rose from the dead and the Sadducees were upset even more because they didn't believe in future resurrection or any kind of resurrection. That's why when you look at verse two, it says they were being greatly disturbed, not just disturbed, but greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people. Here are these unqualified fishermen teaching doctrines that we, the religious authorities, oppose. Now you put all of this in motion and you can see why they're arrested. And their arrest is described in verse three. So they laid hands on them, that would be Peter and John, put them in jail until the next day for it was already evening. Now, why didn't they put them on trial right then and there? It's part of Jewish law. Jewish law says no trial in the evening hours. The only one that they violated that rule for was who? Jesus, because they couldn't wait to rush him through the judicial system to get him dead as quickly as they could. So they violated everything in their rule book. But here at least they're respecting the rule book and they're not having a trial in the evening hours because that is forbidden by the Mosaic law. And what is the results of all of this thing, all of this? Because we're kind of in the mindset that, oh no, if the mandates come back, which they could, they're talking about it, you know. And Sugar Land Bible Church stays open, which is at least my intention. I mean, I would like to stay open. I don't think a pastor or an elder board has a right to shut down a church because whose church is it? It's God's church. If God wants to shut down a church, it's his church, he's more than capable of doing it. A pastor doesn't have an authority to close down a church. So if all these mandates come back and hypothetically, let's say we stay open, my goodness, what if they come in here and they fine us? What if they come in here and they arrest us? What if they do like they did to that pastor of that Baptist church in Northern California where they actually chained the doors and keep assessing fine after fine after fine against him with an attempt to completely drive the church that he was pastoring, you know, under? You know, what do we do then? Well, this is where Acts chapter four is so instructive.

"It just keeps getting either. Good deal was another john. I love how we get. Allow the granular and we Shoot off the cuff sometimes Or oftentimes i should say because a lot of a lot of these aspects you know they deserve a little bit more you know granularity as far as the inner workings. I mean it. You talk about being lockstep will take it if it's a free market you know even if this wasn't free market because it's outside intervention from on high It resets a balance that needed to take place. So we're also pragmatists in the sense that however we had to get there however we get there you know we'd love it to happen naturally and organically at this point. That's almost a pie in the sky. Simply because you know there's been so much intervention from both sides that we we just wanna see some sort of balance coming And honestly a hunter we have a spike coming in my opinion from the aforementioned things that i talked about demand coming back online a restricted a potential restricted production drilling new subsequent drilling but also from shut-ins of the lag of it coming back online a production that was cut in the past year That short across the complex that inadvertent Setting a price ceiling that eventually causes it to be a floor in spite But also interest rates which is the four hundred thousand pound gorilla that nobody's talking about it and if we get sixty seventy bucks at this interest rate these interest rates levels were the curve. It starting into the talking. The interest rate curve now whereas it went flat and then it inverted if it just starts to rising tide lifts all boats where You know a new of bottom set with all these people locking up thirty year. Interest rates thirty year fixed mortgages for two percent in gme but and and they're going to be the lucky ones because i really think the last the last bus is pulling away on kaz in in the next five years. I don't see that even being visible in the rear view You know third are. Yeah but we could be lucky. We would be lucky to get five six seven percent like it was in the mid mid nuts two thousand and And and who knows it could be a replay of the savings and loan boondoggle back in the eighties when volker had to step in because of inflation and increasing that is that is one part of this. That is the fact that you've gotten used to printing may or may and we were and we and we had the luxury of not only being the global reserve currency guys but we were also the best game in town so even if the federal government and the federal reserve prince prince prince but people nali At home here in the us but abroad house their their their net liquidity in dollars or dollar denominated assets. There's always going to be a home for that. If you have crypto currencies now being an avenue with which to get off the grid or divest gold and metal spiking crude oil just across the board. We could have to hell with two hundred dollar crude because of supply and demand it could happen just on a pure inflationary spike. That's been a long time coming. And and the folks that have been him and in han about it for ten twenty thirty years and being deemed chicken little now. They're going to be vindicated. But but at this point. Big fucking deal. It's too late right. you know. In order to be on the number one eight years you have a good and he worked on is good very. Yeah and that's that's true Until that paradigm no longer matters because of centralization but yeah because how do you how do you drop a tomahawk on an entire network In sao great point very point one one tomahawk will only hit one node in a network we are shifting from hierarchical or the festival era. I've our store actually. Now that's getting. Yeah a note we can listen to or muscling their way. You yeah and almost scandalous way But have you complete. I just think it's important in a way that kyle apparently doesn't but also i it is very tricky and we're going to screw it up so be patient with us but he says say you are my sister that it may that may go well with me because of you and the real irony here is that if he viewed her as his sister like in a in a spiritual sense he would not he would not put her in this position if he if he were practising the one another's in the way that we understand them if he were loving his neighbor as loved himself he would not ask this of her But at as we think as i think we see with the typical smoking hot wife pastor scenario he's he's he's actually He sees her beauty as something that adds to his value. It's not about whether she has value or not. It's about his value this. No you're absolutely. I think you're absolutely right. It's like the way that abraham deals with her is immediately transactional in this passage. Yeah it's risk reward I'm sure and you're right. That that has value. Accrued abraham forty and that it could be threat. His life could be threatened in that value could be removed as they enter into a new land. I mean it's just a very transactional object defying approach to dealing with. Not just your spouse but your now sister in covenant fidelity to what god is calling them to do it goes on to say when abraham entered egypt. The egyptian saw that the was very beautiful. I think it might be their big lead of the year. Garland whips it on the left side, open sex and guarded out there by Jamal Murray. He goes baseline, throws it off to Jared Allen 15 footers, an air ball. Rebound comes down to Michael Porter Jr fight throws in the corner over to Millsap, Millsap Wops and on the oboe Nicola Yoko Chan's up behind him over to Paul Millsap. He's at the point throws it back over to Joker Joker throws it, That's all that should have been a foul on Darius Garland shoving. Really shoving but kind of blocking Barton out of the way in Denver, turns it over back. The other way comes sex. And he's a hasn't on the right side dribbles down with the dotted line floaters on the way that one's no good tipped up and in by Jared Allen Yeah. So now you want to make sure that you keep your energy high. Your execution shot. Now watch. We'll get it down to 26. Malone will call time out inside the Ark is yoke. Yeah, it is the nuggets and horns, action and you know the ball goes to the coal. Yokich, Uh, Martin. It looks as if he's gonna come over and screen and instead if the defenders over playing him just dive straight to the rim received the past. I believe by Jared down not to put him to the free throw line. The court is gonna be on the highlight shows here tonight, but that was well done here by Michael Porter Jr. I think he needs to do more of this. You know, they're gonna close him out at the three. But he's a run off at the three point first. Sure, And so now, when you get these defenders charging out to you head fake boom Now you gotta step by him. And then he spent 6 10. Let's dunk on somebody. Great throw number one by Mike is up in in whole have one more 5 23 love to go in the third quarter and that one misses and the rebound down to Jared Island. By the way. "O J. I threw this question out, but I do want to know the answer and what you think Which team do you think's going to score first? And who do you think is going to score the first touchdown? All right, this is I hate these. I love these cause that when you're right, you have, like a bragging moment, which you love. What was the name of our favorite football team? Lettered Cornett team. Leonard Cornett, the fighting winner coordinates. He was good service. When I put her on the spot with something I knew you couldn't best that answer. Oh, so that's why I deliver that went to you. That's right. We're the team later for nets, the fighting letter for National Leonard Cornets. We weren't alone. I'm sorry. Excuse me. What corner? Playing off of four nights. Last name US being the Corvette's fit perfectly. Our performance week in and week out was not very good. We didn't make the postseason. And why was that? Because I'm out. I failed to get in our line of small time. Thank you. That's on me own that. I can acknowledge that but going back to it. That's my answer later for that's gonna find the end zone. First, I thought you could do your play's not your not your fantasy lineup. Yeah, I know right since one of them actually makes me like money in the return right there. I don't like the long quite like future plays that much. I don't usually do Those so fantasy football. There's no immediate payout in front of me. It's hard to be disciplined. I'll acknowledge it. I'm also not a big fantasy guy, So I'll also knowledge that too. I am about making money and I'm trying to do it here by telling you, Hlynur Fernet is gonna find the end zone first. I think the Bucks would be to run the football little bit this game and I don't think it's gonna be road, Joe. It's gonna be for net that gets there. And obviously in those positions. It's obviously gonna be Fernet. So Buck score first letter for that fine. Six. Okay, I'm gonna stick with the theme. I'm gonna answer for me. I'm gonna stick with the theme of the run game because I do think the run game is going to play a big part in this matchup today on both sides, But I think more so for Kansas City. I know that offensive line has been shuffled and rearrange, and they've got some issue with the tackle position. But this is just what Andy Reid kind of does like He kind of has that surprise factor like we're all over here thinking that You know, the offensive line is going to be the biggest problem and I'm not. I'm they're going to find a way to figure it out. And I think Clyde Edwards, the layer is gonna have a huge huge part in today's game haven't seen a much The last couple of weeks has been banged up. You only saw him a little bit against the bills, and so now is as good a time as ever. As for Andy Reid and the enemy to kind of throw him into the mix and let him kind of go to work, So I'm going to say it's gonna be Clyde Edwards. He later who's not only going to reach the end zone once. I think he's going to reach the ends on multiple times in this Super Bowl coming up later today, So while we get set for the Super Bowl, we're also getting set for the halftime show. The weekend is the halftime for poor performance for tonight. "No. You know this song, one of my all time favorite purple rain by Prints are two reasons why we chose this song for the beating of the segment. First of All, Prince, of course, lived and died and how that unbelievable career and life in the great state of Minnesota, where my cousin, senator and former mayor of ST Paul Norm Coleman lives. That if you did notice yesterday again, I pay attention. These things. I already talked about Joe Biden's hair. For some reason, the color scheme yesterday seemed to be purple. I did notice that Michelle Obama was wearing Purple. Um Kamala was wearing purple. And there was one more I forget who? It wasn't Jill. She was wearing blue. But purple seemed to be the color scheme yesterday. And then Juliette, explain to me this morning. That when you combine colors combine which in this equation equals unity. That's where the purple theme came from. And, of course, the Minnesota bites with Diego and, of course, the Minnesota Vikings. Where the color purple so so well, son of a bitch. Well, I'll be damned on of a bitch. Well, isn't that very, very touching? Uh, purple, the color purple colored. You notice yesterday that folks were well, No, Actually, I saw the commentators talking about it, but I didn't particularly notice it or pay much attention to it. That's how you have time to think like I had a long discussion, which also for boot about it. Exact bingo. That would make sense. You can't have that discussion with Mae. Oh, God. All right, So here he is, And he did miss the conversation prior to him calling in my brilliant cousin who I love dearly eight years as mayor of ST Paul's senator from the great state. Minnesota. We played the Prince Norm purple rain coming in because of the Minnesota ties, and they seem to be a lot of purple yesterday. Michelle Obama, Kamala Harris. So we tied it all together for you. You know, I was actually curious Storm. Did you ever go to princes estate to his house in Minnesota? Yeah, absolutely. E was with Sharon Sayles Belton, I think may have given him like a day set aside a day for Prince Prince. Stay in ST Paul's like that, but If you're quick, start up my wife who's Who's Minnesotan in the You know, I remember years ago, telling me about this, this young musician, she went to see Roger. I forget his last thing who played about every instant man. What was Prince? I mean, it was he was just the local musician. It's kind of Bob. Don't story Bob Dylan up up from giving Minnesota And, you know, makes his way to New York City, And then the rest is history. So it wasn't extraordinary Musician. He was actually pretty good community citizen on and you know, it was somebody who was helpful in the community and s O. What was strange? I mean, you know, kind of lived his life his way. But he was he was a pretty good guy. Actually. Yeah, And it's funny. You mention Bob Dylan. They mentioned that on the CBS Morning show on Sunday. I think most people know that Bob Dylan was from your great state of Minnesota. But he wants let's get to yesterday. Norm, you and I on the exact same page. We did not like Donald Trump. Early on. We grew to love. Donald Trump were quick to give him credit from million things, including and especially Israel. But we also agree that a lot of the wounds that he suffered the end of his presidency was self inflicted. But he did it to himself with that said. I was kind of said yesterday to be honest to see him goal. But I was for the most part yesterday, hopeful and open minded with Joe Biden and did enjoy some of the festivities yesterday. What did you take away yesterday? I said we're in the same place, you know, Listen, The beauty of America is the transport transition of power. That's what occurred yesterday. And by the way that you know the idea of having 30,000 troops. It was insane. I mean, that's just really It was too much it wasn't needed. But but it is what it is. It was. You know, A I'm not sure what it was to be honest, but political theater out there. Yeah. What? It was political theater. We're in charge, right? We were and we've got the guns. We've got the weapons were in charge on so but and by the way, and I thought if I gave a great speech, good, sweet, you know, So if I folks he chose Joe But now we're has gotta be convert into action. That was yesterday. Not today way are really fun. The nation together. Is he going to speak out about an impeachment? That is a politically motivated impeachment. I think you're crazy. I think insane. At a time when when, when the country is divided, has been torn apart by Roy being or not. Just not by what happened on on January 6, But we know what happened to summer before you know the destruction, the burning and following the death of The church. Martin s O is our words gonna be converted into action. Are you gonna is big tech and continue to shut down those who about aren't neo liberals? Who, you know who happened to to think conservatives. You know, at one point we were told on the right and create your own platform. So you got Paul it and then probably get shut down. And so the real question will be. Do we move forward with a sense of unity? Or is this administration that's gonna bow to the voices of the far left that seek revenge that she could shut down conservatives? It seeks to impeach Donald Trump. Or is it really gonna be a movement to healing movement? I think there is a time for healing. Make its need. And I think we got a deal with Cove it we've got to deal with a lot of challenges getting back and let me just say, Say this. You got better all here. Donald Trump did a great job is president He is economic. A themes economic program was was tremendous lowest unemployment, if you know, perhaps in history..
