"Joining us now. Is Quinn Cook Lakers Point Guard? He was also playing college. At Duke was one of the top rated basketball recruits in the class of two thousand Eleven Cook One and NBA Championship with the Golden State Warriors. In two thousand eighteen. He also played for the Mavericks the Pelicans and he's also part of this amazing story of Basketball County. The new documentary we showtime and Kevin Durant about this incredible area and Maryland producing unbelievable. Mba Quinn thanks. So much for joining us all. Thanks for having me my pleasure Quinn. Let's start with the upcoming documentary on Showtime that. I just talked about Basketball County in the water. About Prince George's County Maryland. And how this section alongside the DC border produces an overwhelming of MBA talent including yourself. Talk to me about the project. And how much were you involved in it very much involved? you know it was a dream. Come true for me I majored in theater. So I've always been known to documentaries and you know editing and I'm like biasing of theater and You know there's something I've always wanted to do. Just shed light on where I'm from because I is such a unique place in the no close together a place and anybody from there tell you the same thing we all support each other especially guys who play basketball and who've made it you know to college in any type of pro so no for Kevin in enrich climbing to bring me on. It means a lot man and I know we've created something that you know. Everybody will love. I mean I can't wait to watch it as you mentioned you're part of this story in a crucial way you've said in the past even though you're physically and La your heart is always with pg county how was it. They're growing for you to talk to me a little bit about your childhood growing up on it was fine. We could do a lot. You know we had you know. Football Baseball knows basketball. Any anything sports related and just being a kid is something that you know any. Kate wants Opportunity to be great and For me growing up there I had so many resources so many people that look to so many people idolize and You know I just think that you know. I'm lucky to be from where I'm from specifically with basketball fans and is documentary. What do you think people are going to get out of it as they put your community you know on the big screen? What what do you think? We're going to get out of it when we watch it on. Just how together? We are close. We are on Japanese to each other is no hate is no jealousy is nothing is really all loving and and it's really a brotherhood. I think you know we started looking at different cities. What players from each city we compare to? La's in New York's Chicago's are we talking about one county. You're talking about one small Canada. Where all five ten minutes away from each other like we all grew up together. Go to school together. Go to church. Same Church Saint barbershops everything. So I think that's the the unique part about it and I think a lot of people don't really realize mystique until you start naming names and It's just an amazing pool of talent and not just basketball this thousands. Are you ella more about you? Know Our county absolutely. I mean you talk about yourself. Obviously Kevin Durant bitter depot as well. We just go on and on with the names. Do you think you talk. You're talking a lot about unity. Community love friendship. Do you think that's a major reason? Why the ratio of the growth of NBA on and has come obviously talented as as a major part of it. But this support around each one each individual's party a big key. Would you say you agree with that now for sure they everybody plays a big part on for me? It's like the guys who made the NBA are the only guys really get. You know that publicity opposite or resources is different than fans in basketball coach watches on a nightly basis. But for me it's like the people didn't make it. We all have a lot of guys who knows chose wrong on paths and you know. Sometimes the political side worked in their favor and basketball so they didn't get to go as far as we did so for us is like we want to share like everybody to the people who didn't make the people who helped us gave coaches the. Is Everything Pioneers in? Dc in a pressure county is something that means a lot to Louis so you talk a lot about that amplifying everybody and you know you actually show that a lot with your own foundation alongside your family. You know just continuing to help the area especially during this time earlier this month for example handing out meals to local police and firefighters. How important is it to you that you stay close to this community? Even when you're you know across the country as the world it means the world you. I don't know how much it means for for myself for my peers. Continue to give back and help on is is is just a blessing. Because that's what the guys before us and we wanted to keep you know of moving at four because we WANNA help everybody and no for my family just to be on. Frontline baroness this and helping out and You know it also basketball player. Not Like my family would does the same thing I grew up. We always know Thanksgiving Christmas we will go feed the homeless and stuff like that trying to help out on. My parents has always tried to instil. Like you know you guys are looking. You have a roof over your over here. You have two parents you you you. You're not missing meal. You have closing back on. Never not deaf granted so now that started early so I think I can speak for myself personally about it made the NBA or not. My family and myself were still be on the front line. No helping others. Because that's how we raise. Yeah and even more so now during this pandemic you see that. Know that unity even more. So let's talk about you Quinn for for you've previously talked quite honestly about your experiences at the damn especially when it broke out and when you took the test early on how how was it for you. What were those feelings? And how are you feeling? Now as the country deals with this year the tests on my experience I mean I think a lot of people will tell you uncomfortable nor is is a rough but Knows where it just to have a peace of mind. You'll get the right information and how to go about things in the you never would have thought the world could come to this saying. It's the worst thing that can happen ever but is a unique talk for all of us and we don't really have a grasp what was going on like. There's like no right answer like no just a lot no vaccines or anything. So listened to the experts. Listen to our government and just take a precaution up staying Away people staying away from large crowds cracking social dissing washing hands for twenty seconds. All that stuff counts all that Madison matters a lot of stuff that we grew up. No being taught really so no I just go about it. How everybody else is trying to stay positive. It could be a lot worse while pray for the families in people who are affected by this who can go to work. Wet Live on a check-check basis in their checks on coming in because there's no work With people whose family situations and household situation are comfortable or you know just very lucky. I'm very lucky and blessed. The seed is not going on and can't go outside as much but Noah it could be worse on for myself so always keep that in mind and I'll just trying to out. Everything is back to normal soon. We'll return after these messages. This is Jon. Wertheim if you like this show and our sports illustrated podcast. There's another show. "Of parks and recreation prince George's county Sam back I think this guy is did you read the whole article still yeah I have I do not intend to to publicize what I wrote to anyone these are my principles I'm not going to comment on what we wrote to each other whether it was incomplete or something else but I remember very clear what I said what I did whom I wrote to and I can tell you one hundred percent and can answer for this that everything I did was right everything I did was within the law and I never crossed the line I never violated legal mid morning norms or moral ones I mean you can make a case and just to play devil's advocate you could make the case that the same types of pressures that the Democrats are accusing trump love to try to get you know announcements from public officials in Ukraine to say they're investigating something or saying the right thing that will help trump is happening here answer to the Democrats will say right they'll say well this is probably just another example of him just going and saying well you would need to announce that that meeting didn't happen you know like it it's not completely implausible such if you look at it from the democratic view however you know throw that away for a second whether it's true or not how do you file articles of impeachment without knowing well it least interview and the guy without what how how was tying doing this interview and not you if you're doing an impeachment inquiry do not submit these questions to training authority said to they are answered because it is not an actual looks that were true it's not that's the problem and this is where the and they know it this is where the Democrats are really really going to hurt themselves is a disaster I mean they're hiding this around Christmas because it's pathetic yeah it is pathetic I honestly think about this last night because we talk about this for awhile there is absolutely no legal pathway for the second article of impeachment not is it which is it obstruction of Congress basically saying like they don't give us the documents that you give us the the the the the aids to testify were pissed off about it that is absolutely the right of the executive branch everybody knows that well that was seven or nine different press nine different president and Bill Clinton right all this and they've all one they all one this is a very well established because they're supposed to be on the same level you can have one right branch overwhelming the other so why would they do that my belief here as I've been thinking about a little bit is it gives we Democrats in red states an opportunity to vote yes on that article of impeachment and no one the other one so they can say look we didn't it was going we do think we they had enough here we were with you we're looking at this seriously but the other one they absolutely did obstruct Congress that's because it's their right to do it they're the executive branch in their in their easy on the same level generally speaking so they're able to say yes they did do that one whether it's impeachable or not is already settled if it is it's an article of impeachment they already said it was so now you're voting you essentially on whether you believe they did it or not and they'll be.

"And AM six thirty Washington's mall, W M AL. Welcome back. We're continuing our discussion about the vet centers in Prince George's county, we're talking with Prince George's county council member Sidney Harrison from district nine and his chief of staff, Eric Boman. So councilman talk to us about what's happening in the county. What are we looking forward to the landing and everything else? That's happening. We were talking earlier about some things happen in that was failure. What's happening in the county as a whole is ever so growing. Okay. There's a lot of vibrancy and goodwill here in Prince, George's county Prince George's county has approximately about nine hundred thousand people that call Prince George's county home and one of the things that I'm so excited about is the educational system. Impress Georges county are public safety sector working alongside with our public safety officials, and our workforce development that is happening here in the prince, George. County with the summer youth enrichment program where they've expanded the ages summer use ages from fourteen to twenty two along with the number of participants last year, we had about three thousand summer use participating county executive also Brooks is expanding that number to six thousand nice. And that's very exciting about the community partnership there and providing employment for young people here in Prince George's county, but what I'm also very excited about is one of the things we must spotlight is Prince George's county has a veterans commission in the mission and the purpose of that commission is to elevate develop and promote new existing programs and services for veterans and their families with them. Prince George's county. And it is our vision that Prince George's county offers our veterans quality services and programs to ensure enrichment and enhancement of life for our men and women and their families that actually is under the county executive on knbr Ella, but they serve as Prince George's county as a whole, and they're being champions for veterans, and Gloria I must say I have to say, you know, you live actually in Prince George's county, and you have been a champion for veterans for so many years. And I thank you for what you do where you work with our elected officials our community partners to ensure that that veteran voice is heard and that is present. And I look forward to working with you, and as you educate, and engage and empower me some of the things that are veterans need and where we need to approve upon our legislation. And policy. I look forward to you being able to to share that vision with us as well. Because not one person can do it alone. You know that Notre to get anything done. It takes a multitude of people coming together as a team as a vision as one voice to get something done and glory. I appreciate all that you do in our community. Absolutely. Thank you councilman. Thank you chief of staff. I am really committed. I'm passionate about the mission that I do serve which is making sure that the department of veterans affairs provides quality and safe healthcare to every veteran, and I don't take the mission lightly. I am an army wife my listeners, they know I'm caregiver to my army brother as well. Who lives a tough life with MS and all sorts of colitis, but with good advocacy. He's been able to get the care and the services that he needs from the department. Teran's affairs. So the mission is personal, and it is more than a pleasure to work with you to work with the county as a whole about veterans just experiencing the camaraderie and being with the veterans on a daily basis. It's like instinct gratification, it's not a job. And you know, some people will say ask yourself if you will do your job without a paycheck. Well, I can say I've done that. And didn't get a paycheck, and I still haven't gotten that paycheck. When I first started with the VA, and I'm okay with it. Absolutely, okay. With it though. I know that it's passion. And it's love for the mission for the veterans respect for the service because you know, they say freedom ain't free. And I do believe that freedom is not free. I my husband served two tours in Iraq one two and Afghanistan. And I know I did not get back. The same husband that I sent to Iraq. I know that there's a difference there and he lives his life a little bit different after experiencing theater of combat. You know, he's a little more cognizant of things that are happening around him. And like you were saying Eric about mandarins being aware of crime or wanting to work to help prevent it. Is that keen training that they received as military personnel? Yes. And we thank. And appreciate your your husband, all the other veterans that have foreign and foreign wars or conflicts, and we we definitely respect and appreciate all the. They have done for our country. Absolutely the sacrifice. I absolutely definitely a selfless sacrifice. You such a self aside very much so very much. So it was very interesting conversations we had with the veterans at the center and some of the information shared about some of these other veterans like the homelessness and housing, and is something that as a county government. And also the federal government have to definitely be responsive to those needs because they have served gave so much of themselves. It's only bright that the government continued offer them support that they truly deserve and the earned. They are in that. Absolutely. You're so right councilman anything you want to add Rapa once again, I want to thank all of our veterans for all that they do for country protecting our freedoms caring for our country. A lot of the reasons why we all are where we are today is because of our veterans we stand on the shoulders of our veterans, and we cannot take that lightly. And so I say, thank you. I say thank you to everyone who has served in every branch of government for all that they've done for our country. And I look forward to being a champion for veterans working as a partner with them to improve housing, affordable housing quality healthcare, making sure that we address the challenges and obstacles of homelessness as well. And making sure that we improve the quality and services in the wraparound services for anything that is needed that they might need. Absolutely. Thank you so much for joining us today. We're going to take a brief break. But before we go, I do want to say, thank you. Thank you for all you're doing in the community. Thank you for being not just I can remember when you want to campaign trails, and I'm. Yelling about veterans. "Small W M A AL. Welcome back. We're continuing discussion about the vet centers in Prince George's county, we're talking with Prince George's county council member Sidney Harrison from district nine and his chief of staff, Eric Boman. So councilman talk to us about what's happening in the county. What are we looking forward to the landing and everything else? That's happening. We were talking earlier about some things happen in that was failure. What's happening in the county as a whole is ever so growing. Okay. There's a lot of vibrancy and goodwill here in Prince, George's county Prince George's county has approximately about nine hundred thousand people that call Prince George's county home and one of the things that I am so excited about is the educational system. Impress Georges county are public safety sector working alongside with our public safety officials, and our workforce development that is happening here in a prince, George. County with the summer youth enrichment program where they've expanded the ages summer use ages from fourteen to twenty two along with the number of participants last year, we had about three thousand summer use participating and county executive also Brooks is expanding that number to six thousand nice. And that's very exciting about the community partnership there and providing employment for our young people here in Prince George's county, but what I'm also very excited about is one of the things we must spotlight is Prince George's county has veterans commission in the mission and the purpose of that commission is to elevate develop and promote new existing programs and services for veterans and their families with them Prince George's county, and it is our vision that Prince George's county offers our veterans quality services and programs to ensure enrichment and enhancement of. Life for our men and women and their families that actually is under the county executive on Brenda, but they serve as Prince George's county as a whole and there are being champions for veterans. And, you know, Gloria, I must say I have to say, you know, you live actually in Prince George's county, and you have been a champion for veterans for so many years. And I thank you for what you do. Would you work with our elected officials our community partners to ensure that that veteran voice is heard and that it is present? And I look forward to working with you, and as you educate in engage empower me some of the things that are veterans need and where we need to approve upon our legislation and policy. I look forward to you being able to to share that vision with us as well. Because not one person can do it alone. You. You know that in order to get anything done. It takes a multitude of people coming together as a team as a vision as one voice to get something done and Gloria. Who lives a tough life with MS and all sort of colitis, but with good advocacy. He's been able to get the care and the services that he needs from the department of veterans affairs. So the mission is personal, and it is more than a pleasure to work with you to work with the county. Has a hole about veterans just experiencing the camaraderie and being with the veterans on a daily basis. It's like instinct gratification, it's not a job. And you know, some people will say ask yourself if you will do your job without a paycheck. Well, I can say I've done that. And didn't get a paycheck. And I still haven't gotten that paycheck. When I first started with the VA, and I'm okay with it. Wow. Absolutely, okay. With it though. I know that it's passion. And it's love for the mission for the veterans respect for the service because you know, they say freedom ain't free. And I do believe that freedom is not free. I my husband served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. And I know I did not get back. The same husband that I sent to Iraq. I know that there's a difference there and he lives his life a little bit different after experiencing a beard of combat. You know, he's a little more cognizant of things that are happening around him. And like you were saying Eric about mandarins being aware of crime or wanting to work to help prevent it. Is that keen training that they received as as military personnel? Yes. And we thank. And appreciate your your husband and all the other veterans that have fought and form wars or conflicts. And we we definitely respect and appreciate all they have done. Done for our country. Absolutely. The sacrifice. Absolutely definitely a selfless sacrifice. You such a self aside very much so very much. So it was very interesting. The conversations we had with the veterans at the center and some of the information they shared about some of these other veterans like the homelessness and housing, and is something that as a county government. And also the federal government have to definitely be responsive to those needs because they have served gave so much of themselves. It's only bright that the government continued to offer them support that they do truly deserve and earned earned that. Absolutely. You're so right councilman anything you want to add Rapa once again, I want to thank all of our veterans for all that they do for country protecting our freedoms caring for country. A lot of the reasons why we're all are where we are today is because of our veterans we stand on the shoulders of our veterans, and we cannot take that lightly. And so I say, thank you. I say thank you to everyone has served in every branch of government for all that they've done for our country. And I look forward to being a champion for veterans working as a partner with them to improve housing, affordable housing quality healthcare, making sure that we address the challenges and obstacles.
