"Prince George's County Police say the remains of Mary Amsila were found near a pond on old Alexandria County Road in Clinton on August 1st According to arrest records she was decapitated and her arms and legs were cut off as well. A witness says they saw white male in a white pickup truck drop something in that area the previous night. Police also found video footage of what they believe was 33 year old Harold Landon in a truck at the scene at that time. Landon was arrested August 1st on an unrelated charge for allegedly trying to stab an ex -girlfriend. Police obtained a search warrant for Landon's home and found a reciprocating saw that they say was consistent with what was used to cut up the body. Luke Luker, WTOP News. A last minute scramble continues in Howard County. This for parents and students facing challenges just to get their kids on a school bus this year. Joining us live in studio with these details WTOP's Matt Kofax. Well Ralph, we know a lot of parents are worried about week two. They're wondering what's going to happen. Now Zoom Transportation, the company that announced just before week one of classes, that it would be unable to staff drivers to cover 20 bus routes, put out a message saying they've had over 30 drivers apply for open positions in the last two days. But sadly for families in Howard County, the company telling them that the same 20 routes that were canceled week one will remain canceled for week two. They say they're going to work to staff drivers for these routes as soon as possible in weeks. the coming Now just yesterday, Howard County superintendent apologized for the quote transportation crisis but the whole incident has raised questions about why the system was caught unprepared to give students reliable transportation for the first week of school. It is 1205, parents and students at a Stafford County middle school are learning a teacher was arrested last week and now facing charges. Police say the 36 -year -old teacher Jonathan Burns was arrested Thursday last spring when he was teaching at the Potomac Middle School. He resigned after officials say he allegedly sent charges soliciting sex to two former students. Police had an investigation underway when he quit. Then as police were reviewing what happened, Burns was hired as a math teacher at the AG Wright Middle School in Stafford County. It's unclear if Stafford County knew about the investigation when they hired him. The principal of school the wrote to parents that Burns was immediately removed the day police took him into custody. Al Cooper, WTOP News 13 counties in Virginia under a drought watch advisory, including our area well. as Six of those counties are in Northern Virginia. Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, Arlington, and Fairfax counties. Virginia's Department of Environmental Quality issued the drought watch advisory at the end of August. They factored in precipitation, groundwater stream flows, and reservoir levels when coming up with them, abnormal rain levels in the past two weeks. High heat and no rain in the forecast were some reasons behind the decision. According to the DEQ, Northern Virginia precipitation, reservoir, and stream flow levels are considered normal. However, those normal stream flows are below the 25th percentile. Groundwater indicators also reported to be low, but Occoquan Reservoir and Lake at NASA's levels are considered normal. Virginians encouraged to cut back on water use? Fauquier County says they'll start voluntary conservation and will inform residents about ways to curtail usage. Liz Anderson, WTOP News. Nothing really to write home about there. In Fairland, northbound 29 near Fairland Road. Report of a crash. If you're traveling in Edgewater, Route 2 Solomon's Island Road northbound near Mayo Road may have a crash with police direction there. Traffic on the BW Parkway southbound near 410 inside the Beltway that crash is wrapped up and gone. Route 50 going across the Bay Bridge three lanes are east and two lanes are west. No problems as you continue toward the Eastern Shore. We did have the earlier crash near White Mills Road. It should be on the right shoulder completely there so watch out for that. Otherwise, if you're traveling back in Virginia in Tilly eastbound 50 between Walney Road and Lees Corner Road may still be under police direction for the crash. "Relief but no additional money right now for ukraine residents in reffingham in southern illinois are being allowed to return home after a truck accident late friday night caused a toxic chemical spill that killed five people about five hundred people were evacuated keep it here full details on stories these in the minutes ahead on w t o p traffic traffic and weather is on the eights here's joe fox in the wtop traffic center damn by and large things are moving well around the region each and the only two things that we're watching are both on the east and northeast side of town so first off the baltimore washington parkway northbound you're as crossing over powder mill road have what looked like a fairly serious crash northbound on the northbound side right in the interchange at the caller reported that there was one vehicle off to the right side and a second involved on the left shoulder so you might see emergency response on either side of the roadway so use extreme caution headed as you're north headed from nasa goddard up towards laurel on the bw parkway but uh... as of now everything appears to be open i can see that at least that there is a response on scene right now so you'll see plenty of flashing lights as you go through on the inner loop of the capitol beltway still the overnight bridge work is continuing uh... at richie marlboro road so it's a single right lane getting you by not much of a delay with that but uh... just do don't be too shocked if uh... all the sudden three of the lanes that you're using are closed and actually just looking at richie marlboro it looks like they're in the process of clearing so by the time you get there it might be gone things are moving well through prince georges county on the beltway no problems problems on the potomac anacostia river crossings no problems in the district the earlier crashes that we mentioned have all been cleared northbound three ninety uh... five you might see the left lane still blocked at duke street but other than that it's smooth sailing back towards the fourteenth street same bridge story on the inner loop of the beltway in virginia headed towards the lesion bridge it was the left lane of three taken away from you you as pass the dullest toll road joe fox wtop traffic seven news first alert meteorologist mark pena has our forecast for the pre -dawn hours it was a gloomy week last week and finally we've got a break coming our way we've got nothing but

Rich generally quiet around the region as we head around beltway. the Let's take a look well north of town on the BW park where Maryland 295 at that point. As you head towards the Baltimore beltway you cannot access the outer loop of the Baltimore. I want to emphasize that beltway because a serious pretty crash out there. The earlier crash that we had at I -195 near BWI Marshall Airport is gone. trip The between the beltways is looking good on both 95 and the parkway. No problems on 50 out to the Bay Bridge. On the beltway beltway in Prince George's County still doing our overnight road work. The bridge work that takes up all except the right lane. So it's the right lane getting by over the top of Richie Marlboro Road. So a little bit of a slow down as you head south from Central Avenue towards Joint Base Andrews and then you're in good shape back towards Virginia at that point. No problems 66 on between the Roosevelt Bridge and Front Royal. We do have the right lanes out of service as you leave Manassas. Gainesville for But again you have three left lanes getting you through with almost nobody out there on the roads with you. 95 South down to Richmond moving well. No problems there in the district. I think all the crashes that we had earlier including the ones on Georgia Avenue have all cleared. No problems on 270 on out towards Frederick and First Town. We are moving well. It's 3 23 a Baltimore man has been charged in a deadly shooting of an off -duty Howard County sheriff's deputy. 40 year old Jewel Crowder of Baltimore is facing first degree murder charges in the shooting death of 23 year old deputy Ryan Demby. Simple conflict should not end in someone losing their lives. Baltimore mayor Brandon Scott says Crowder is accused of opening fire following an altercation at a bar early Friday morning. This coward decided to escalate this conflict in a way that was totally unacceptable. A Baltimore city council member says the incident began inside a federal Hill bars front door and spilled the street into and Demby suffered numerous gunshot wounds. Dick Iuliano, WTOP News. There was a deadly crash in Bowie, Maryland Friday night and police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. An SUV driving east on Woodmore Road between Pleasant Prospect Road and Waterford Mill Road in Bowie left the roadway and police don't know why. Corporal Unique Jones of the Prince George's County Police spoke with NBC4. They look at marks on the roadway and things like that to try to determine what happened to lead to this crash. After the SUV exited the road, it struck a tree and caught on fire. All four people inside died. Infected person was at the Cabernet ice rink in Bethesda on the evening of May 24th and in an office building on Frederick Road in Gaithersburg during the day on May 30th. If you were born before 1957 and have had two measles vaccinations, say you should be immune. People who are at those two locations at those times should keep an eye out for symptoms which include a rash, high fever, runny nose and red watery eyes. Pregnant women, infants less than one -year -old and those who are immune compromised are the most susceptible to complications from measles. If you think you or your child has been exposed and could be at risk, contact your health provider or Montgomery County Health. Last confirmed measles cases in Maryland were in 2019.

Washington DC area schools expect higher enrollment in fall
"Prince George's County has kids back in the classroom again on a hybrid schedule, But many students are choosing to stay all virtual and others have left the system altogether. School leaders think classrooms will fill out in the fall, though overall enrollment is down this school year in Prince George's County, we saw the con in a Roman of about 2000 students. But many of those who are younger students where their parents could actually do that all that home teaching experience. But Monica Goldson, the CEO of the County school system says that's likely to reverse back in the next school year. We're expecting that those families will come back, and we'll still see a percent about a 1% increase in student body as well. ‘Washington Teachers’ Union remembers president Elizabeth Davis
"Here. A double duty will be this morning on a deadly car crash in buoy on Route three. Oh, one both drivers involved have died. One of them was a Elizabeth Davis, the president of the Washington teacher's Union. He a modern day civil rights leader. Washington Teacher's Union General Vice president Jacqueline Pogue. Lyons said the union is devastated by the loss of President Elizabeth Davis. She worked as a teacher for more than 40 years and served as president of the Union for eight years. She was 70 years old. Prince George's County partners with Glenn Dale, Maryland, church to deliver vaccine to residents
"Mass vaccination site set up in Montgomery County, while in neighboring Prince George's county, the site at six flags is being under used by some local residents. Maryland's Prince George's County implements changes to improve vaccination sign-up process
