"We know that that of course you want the raptors twin another championship we all we all want that of course but i guess one question that i hear a lot of people talk about when they talk about you is what might come next. I guess we talked about some people that you're very close with brock obama. You know you were just on the campaign trail with justin trudeau. Do you see yourself. Maybe pursuing a future in politics people talk about that a lot and they talked way. They do they do. I hear it all the time. Yeah i i am interested in knowing what goes on in the world the way i look at it as i have a good voice where i am today and i'm appreciative of that and i don't take it for granted and so we'll see what the future brings. So maybe so. I'm telling you i'm already a politician from your perfect final question. I i'm hoping that we can end this conversation. Which has been wonderful. Thank you so much with the high point of your professional career. The nba championship night. In oakland and i wonder if there's a quiet moment that you might be willing to share with us a about that night that will stay with you forever. They're a couple moments of it. And because of what happened in oakland the moment on the court was taken away from me but i will never ever forget my wife ordering account remember if it was in and out all chicks filling and we had to fly back to toronto because my daughter was graduating from when you have five. What are you graduating from him. Yes in the guy so but when we got on the plane we had the burgers and the pilots had champagne for us. No air was the moment just two of us you know like there and all the texts that you got you got from friends people well-wishers everybody pray us from africa and then you take off and i can't remember if we had wi fi on the plano we slept off and then you wake up in the morning in toronto and there's another billions of tax that came in that moment those moments way incredible you know like to just sit back and you are not even been bothered by anybody but this to see my kids you know like when you walk into the door and we came in from san francisco of come from the airport..

"Thornton is piloting his ferry boat across new york harbor when he sees two planes hit the world trade center. And that's when we pull the hundred eighty degree turn and we just headed south to The world trade center area soon countless other ferries tugboats and pleasure crafts. Join him find out how this heroic impromptu rescue mission came together and how captain thornton sees it twenty years later on history this week available wherever you get your podcast. We're seeing more african players than ever before in the nba. And i wonder you expect things to be ten twenty years from now camps outgrowing the players social media things even more exposed. How do we build infrastructure. How do we continue to grow the game coaching. All those things become more difficult as the game gets wider on why. I'm encouraged by the ball league. It's incredible the nba was able to do this note for our listeners. This basketball africa league premier. Men's league that is fairly new. Yes started first. Championship was in april this year. It's talking about building infrastructure and the camps. You do so much that work through giants of africa. And i think you now operate in seventeen countries on the continent and i wonder how does that work connect with your upbringing in in nigeria and and falling in love with with basketball. When we do cams the kids sit on the floor and we speak to them. And i sat on the floor just like that basketball camp. The for my beloved coaching nigeria. Oliver johnson was an american that moved to nigeria with the peace corps and started coaching basketball. And when i look at those kids. I see myself i when i see myself i see those kids and knowing every single way if i can make it and i can get to this place when i say make it. I mean make it up to the nba is kids can make it even further. You know like they're more talented than smarter. But this youth they need a path and the education of sports for me becomes really incredibly important for them to grow. I know you certainly touched on this already. But i wonder if you could just elaborate for me a little bit more like you go back every year in your time off and i guess you don't have to go back every year and your time off you could. You could just take me right so why. This is what we were born to do. You know this is. It's an obligation for me. If i'm put in this chair to be the president of the toronto raptors and i don't win i don't win for others. I don't know where success is. Yeah the success comes from really building and growing those youth on the continent of africa and everywhere around the world and i feel that it's an obligation. I was watching this. Hbo documentary about you recently. And there's this moment you bring you bring the trophy larry. O'brien trophy back to nigeria. And you're sitting with your parents and you say right way. I came from something something big. I wonder. can you take me back to that moment. What did you mean when you when you said that. look. I look where my parents are. Set me up to be. They raised me the right way. My dad would always say to me beyond s. to people. Yeah respect people respect women and those those things always resonated. You know with with me nine. Incredible way you know and it's funny you come down to the basic fundamentals of life of looking somebody in the eye and telling them hello or showing some kind of kindness. Everybody can be as smart as they want to be. Yeah or anybody can go on the internet as much as they want you know like why are you as a person why you as a human being and i said i come from something big. Because they made me. I at least think about life that way. I wonder if we could spend a little bit of time. Also talking about the past year in the in the nba so other other than being an advocate for african basketball. You've also been outspoken on issues of racial justice and we really saw that come to a head in the nba bubble. After the death of george floyd keep your fear this. it's amazing. Why were you. Keep loving this country and this country loves us back home. State of wisconsin. We've seen horrendous video of jacob lee being shot in the back seven times at least knows and the additional shooting protesters despite overwhelming plea for change. There has been no action so are focusing cannot be on bass. We are steered by an american black man. Black black kids we are. We are terrified players messages on the jersey. They withheld their work. They shut down games and it was this incredible demonstration of showing the world their influence and power. It's sort of well transcended sport right. And i wonder what what you took away from that time. Whatever we took away still happening now. You know like the the thing why george floyd did was i think. Set up the whole world for another another movement and no like that just continues. The one thing. I loved about the past year and a half was in some ways. Black people became bolder. When george floyd sneck cop hide his knee and his neck okay. Grand for his mom is bleeding as pene on himself and can't go nowhere. He's handcuffed air. Who are you as a human being. Yeah you don't need to be a cop who had those people standing there. Yeah that actually seen this happen. I look at that and i think there's ways on ways to go and where we all have to like respect each other and know that this doesn't matter anymore. I said the color of skin is old is old fashioned. Doesn't matter way born yeah. You could be born somewhere completely like different. Yeah i look at my daughter. She could have been born in samburu. Yeah she could have been born in. Libya been born in many different places that make a different beautiful unbelievable girl. It doesn't do you see the raptors and the nba by extension playing an important role. Moving forward here like making sure that these issues stay in the spotlight. That people are talking about them. Yes i do i do. I think the players are doing incredible job individually and collectively where they can. We have to think about them to us youth. You know like they need guidance in oh they need exposure to we need to give them even a bigger platform in like to speak about these things to act on these things to give them resources in no like because they are the ones that kids look up to. I wonder if we could talk about something that i don't want to spend too much time rehashing because it is very much in the past but you know our listeners will will of course know about the altercation that you had after the nba championship win with the officer in oakland. I just wonder now now that you have gone through the legal system. If there's anything that you have taken away from that experience that you might like to to share with us yes plenty. It showed me that experience. And that incidents joe showed me that i am a public figure and i had an opportunity to tackle this issue because of my position. Yeah i need makes me think that people that are not in my position of people. That don't have the opportunity that i have. It made me really think. How do they come out of this. How did they survive. It happens everywhere and no cameras has no bail money as there's no lawyers i had all of those and so in some ways blessed i did came out that way where i can actually now figure out ways.

"Kyle. Lowry know in the best. I wonder how you think his story and his trajectory might fit into sort of the larger story of the raptors evolution. Maybe especially as a team works to rebuild down you know. I want to hope that there's going to be bigger. I'm better than kyle lowry. Because he has opened up that door. Yeah he's yeah all these records and what he's done you know these things. He broke other people's records. You know like they are the people that were spoken of as the best raptors of all times. You know like you can argue vince. Carter and how we made. Young players wanted to agree setup. Corey joseph's the wiggins and all these guys the barrett rj barron the latest and some say the biggest name in basketball the amount of canada. He's already got the hardware including a recent harry jerome award and actually usually reserved for people so much. Further into their careers may watched vince. Carter right one point. You could argue the mar- you know like what do i did. Incredible and it was unfortunate. How we think everything went you know like but i still see him that way. You know like he's erupted. That stands out in an incredible way. And then you look at people that way here. Too that dean. Stay that long. You know like kawhi. Leonard might arguably to be you know like a one year greatest her of all time i mean like so and then the talents of the tracy mcgrady's or chris bosh is you know like so but kyle just came on you know and the took off and what gives the most credit to that championship. Do you think he was also also talking about leadership. He was a leader on the team. And is there a deficit on the team. Now do you have to kind of rebuild rebuild that no. We're going to rebuild as a team. Where a young team. But we there is no deficit in leadership. You know. fred is an unbelievable leader. Yeah this is where everybody is going to see now in the kind of leader. Here's another team of now. There's going to be growing pains. Trust me you know like it's not sometimes it's gonna be tough to watch like but we know what's coming we know you know. Why excited about the young talent. They're excited to play. I think to see how or g pascal fred. going to evolve is leaders as lead players and then the young guys you know like the binds the malachi. The delay knows in sports people. Think now right you know and this is where we have to be patient. You know like let it grow right right. Maybe it's not just sports. That people are so obsessed with the now. But you're saying this is long a long game. You're not only known for the work that you do with the raptors but you also have the reputation for helping african players find their path within the nba players like pascal like surge arguably the biggest star from the last nba season. Janas says running the floor once again comes out of nowhere. Brill's it off the backboard yata staff. The tax breaks no doubt given the two time. Mvp in the league. This year's bill russell finals. Mvp at tenneco is originally from nigeria. As are you and can. Can you talk to me a little bit about your connection with him. you know. i don't talk to publicly about thou one yannis and his family so dear to me. We just have a unique relationship and friendship. That honestly now goes beyond basketball. Know so i leave it at that. Might you talk about what it what it meant to you when you saw him. Crowned last season's mvp. Yeah in incredible. I i remember watching watching it and filling incredibly proud of what the young mind accomplished. You know like that.

"Just outside the famous oviedo center in toronto and we are about to go talk to messiah jerry. And we're going to talk to him about his new role as vice chairman and president of the raptors. I want to ask him about the work that he's doing all over africa to foster talent and give opportunities young people there and i also want to ask him about this past year playing basketball In the nba bubble During he's sort of an extraordinary time protests in the wake of george floyd's death so Let's go him. Hi masai it is. It is such a pleasure to have you here. Thank you so much for joining me. Thank you for having me. And i'll say for our listeners. We are actually sitting in the middle of the oviedo practice court which is pretty cool. Really cool a few weeks ago you signed onto both vice chairman and president of the raptors and you said that you're here to stay and i know a lot of people thought maybe you'd leave. Maybe you'd had to a bigger market like new york and what what is keeping you here in toronto. Big question you started off with the big one Toronto is has become home for me for my family. They something about this space of toronto canada. That really is special. It gives me a good platform to speak to represent And it's a unique space. Why do you think that is what what makes it so unique. There's a lot to do with. I think the diversity of the country the city toronto I think different people from all walks of life all parts of the world different parts of the world. and there's a freeness. There's a certain way you know that a lot of people around the world don't even know but and sometimes we inside don't even know someone who who grew up in in toronto. Whenever i hear you talk about the city it makes me feel really guilty. That i'm always complaining about the traffic but i i seriously i saw you the other day. You were introducing art installation that you put together union station and you got a bit emotional when you start to talk about all the diverse faces that that you see when when you look up in the stands during during the raptors game. I come to the games every day. I see people from everywhere in your new role as vice chairman. What changes for you. If anything i think i on the motion you know it's to me. It's very important that people understand that we do have issues in no like here and everywhere in the world and and that's what resonates with mean some kind of way that we have people from all over the world and we all need to treat each other better. Yeah when i look at black. People look at indigenous people look at. What's going on with asians. We just need to be better. And do you think in your role now as president and vice chairman you. You have more of an ability to speak. Speak to those issues to address those issues. I hope i do i. It's not only you can just speak alone. You have to act right you know you i. It's there's the platform on the voice. I also have to represent and present by actions. You are good friends. With brock obama palca gomez is. I believe one of your mentors as well when you when you think about leadership. What are the most important qualities. Tier what i've learned from this people. Are you know they're incredible visionaries. Then i think as a leader you have to have the ability to hire people that are smart and in fact smarter than you as a leader. I think it's i think these guys these guys do it. What do you think your greatest strengths as a leader of annoyed. No idea why they let me do this. You know why one of the things i was humbled by was when these guys and they asked me questions. Yeah it baffles me. Because they know everything. Yeah so why would they ask me a question. And i've had moments with president mugabe or of forty four or justin trudeau and they inquisitive in their minds too. You know and very filled with information as so much information. It's it's it's really like. It's mind boggling. I wonder if we can spend time talking about kyle. Lowry lowers that continues. Kyle lowry green. How does he. Young guy from north philadelphia all kinds of questions about them not tall enough. Not fast enough not athlete. How does he become an nba champion. Our work never let nobody tell you can't do some special and Just a great group of guys. The i can't really think right now. This is crazy is awesome toronto canada. We brought it home baby. You've got home you. You wonder if that is the final. Walk of the greatest rapper of all time in kyle lowry so this this team arguably goodbye recently to its heart and soul and he's someone who's always loved the challenge i think probably being underestimated and he walked away the greatest raptor of all time. And i know you have also said that. And i wonder if you could reflect on. What's different about the kyle lowry. Who came nine years ago. And the kyle lowry who left his nine years older. He's somebody that's really courageous. Somebody that wants to be bigger better. And that's what karl was. All i can. Yeah we had our ups and downs on. Yeah he he had his moments. But i've always said it. You know like he's always been respectful. He's always been that you know like you. But he wears his emotions ice leaves to you know and he He's he might be one of the most competitive persons. I've ever been around of being in a gym where they are playing. Pick up in. The middle of september season has started. Nothing is going on and he's ruthless. You know like this is how he's mind works and I think those competitive people in the world you know have a have an edge about them. The most incredible thing is how he's game has evolved with time. He's very thoughtful. He's a visionary of the game you know like he knew where the three point game was going and how he established it as a human being family guy. You know like kyle. Lowry's is is.
Masai Ujiri Gets New Deal as Vice Chairman/President of Toronto Raptors
"And reporting this front office news. Missile jerry will in fact return to the raptors with the title of vice chairman. Presidents masai won the title of course in two thousand nineteen pulling off the daring one year trade for quiet. Panned out zack. How big is this for the raptors. He was the biggest free agent potentially on the market other hawaii leonard. It's a huge deal. I mean this guy is the architect of a championship team. He has an incredible rapport with players. Incredible amount of respect around the league. You can get in a room with anyone any free agent any potential radio whatever and and more than that the raptors. Earning a transitional period. Where kyle gone. They have to decide a bunch of different things about what direction they want to go to. And you want to have everyone who's been there through it all in the room making those decisions especially the guy who has the hammer for those decisions of. That's masai

"Hello everyone and a great week and I just saw a tweet here from the US sportsnet in Canada and it looks like one of their writers as reporting I'm trying to get through this well why the raptors will likely to read Boff the bulls interest in Bobby Webster that's just as likely doesn't say that they that they will but the tweet reads the sense it is in this case the bulls won't be granted permission to speak with raptors GM Bobby Webster according to a Michael Grange who writes for a sportsnet in Canada when it comes to promotion I didn't know that they could I mean I can they technically block of a guy's gonna get a promotion I guess they can do whatever they wanted these property the rafters your looks like it why not leave that will end up doing that would suck I don't know if they would have to be up up there any then right specific individual but usually if it's going to be a promotion and you're going from being a general manager to the president of something or another they wouldn't stand in the way so that's interesting yeah it is to just read through this real quick and see if we can get a a gauge and the reporters feelings here the N. B. is gone dormant the raptors like almost every other club are having video meetings mostly just to meet making plans mostly just to make plans for contingencies that may never arise what else is in the midst of a pandemic but late last week came some news or at least a hint of it as reported by age religion asking the bulls are moving on from their current management team made the reported targets not surprisingly as raptors GM Bobby Webster the mid thirties executive who is taking on more public facing role with the team over the past couple seasons is the price of success when you help put a team together that wins an NBA title without a lottery pick on the roster and when that team loses an MVP candidate and another starter comes back the next year on pace to have a better record and poised to finish in the top four in the east you get noticed raptors president Masai Ujiri isn't doing this by himself keeping executive to keeping his executive team together as long as possible was one of the reasons jury relinquish GM title then promoted Webster into the roll back in two thousand seventeen it's customer that NBA teams don't stand in the way of their people being recruited for promotions bumping up Webster meant the only teams the only teams looking for a president or director of basketball ops could realistically come looking but that's what the bulls are on the hunt for and recent struggles aside the franchise that Michael built is still one of the premier destinations in the NBA which doesn't mean Webster's likely end up in Chicago his father's home town the sense in this case is that the bulls won't be granted permission to speak with Webster who is under contract until the end of the twenty twenty one season it's not about the raptors trying to be difficult or stifle Webster but timing is everything and for the moment it's easy to understand why raptors minority owner and M. L. S. each chairman les Larry Tanenbaum the likely point of contact for bulls ownership would politely refused the request of another team to speak with one of his most important basketball employees so we'll wait and see on this one I told your work in the guy and I was telling everybody before that that article in the athletic pain say pretty glowing picture of Bobby Webster I mean it just thirty six is accomplished a lot he worked in the legal office and he was instrumental in crafting the CBA that the league operates under now he was the one that came up with the amnesty provision remember that your co they gave every team the OP and like an hour it was yes chance to get out of the real bad guy exactly it wouldn't kill your books remember right right he created that the idea that players should be allowed to be offered more by their current team like it you know in hopes of teams being able to keep their best players he created that is so well regarded within I mean he was doing this by the time is like thirty so well regarded within the league he was missile juries hand picked the guy from the league office he has just an amazing amount of knowledge and any understand the intricacies of this CV CBA he received huge credit I guess for finding players like Fred vanvleet and out Pascal Siakam and he was part of the crew over in Europe last year with missile jury that facilitated the trade with San Antonio for Kawhi Leonard I mean so like when you talk about an up and comer in a in a meteoric rise I mean like this kid seems to have everything you want and I was you read that article and maybe I was just blinded by the effusive praise for a minute but I'm like man this is the guy I hope the bulls get I hope at the very least they still are afforded the opportunity to talk to him but that might not be the case here I know Michael rice or French double that of the bulls but if Jerry Reinsdorf wants it to happen behind the scenes Jerry Reinsdorf will make it happen yeah interesting like one hundred percent Jerry Reinsdorf identifies this guy of Michael identified it Jerry I'll go behind the scenes to make it happen if Bobby Webster is a hundred percent if either guy yeah but if they've located they've Aidid and they said this is our man he's going to be the point man for the Chicago Bulls as we move forward if that's what's going to happen Jerry has a way of convincing people doesn't make yeah probably he's got a lot of clout that's true Casey Johnson a quote tweeted this report from sportsnet any road bulls list while initially focused on four candidates isn't limited to that they expected some targets to stay and order be capped by their current employers I also think that the Pacers GM is off of that list the phone number that I see that Chris over the weekend we can't chat began yeah he came out and said that he's not interested he's comfortable in the situation with the Pacers about that's comfortable shoes right good for him comfortable that's what he likes that's what he likes like stuff also in the bustle of living in Appaloosa maybe he enjoys the shrimp over at Saint Elmo's Hey good for him the cocktail sauces fiery in forever good it is the best isn't it yeah I think about that stuff in the store now like we can get a bunch of bottles of that and you can't get that no no no no you can't go to Costco I think they have it on sale at Costco the there you go should just tell him to still come here and we can get him is take stock telltale sauce and fired well not I hope maybe you're right maybe they might have to lean on the old man a little bit say Hey use your your power your influencer cloud find a way to get at the very least interview and see if you're not wild by Bobby went from telling you read that article you'll be blown away by what these kids accomplished in the prospects of him running the bulls this was from Joe Colley story over the weekend we're gonna talk to Joe tomorrow I believe it was for a writing about and not too happy Larry marketing here's some portion of Joe's story and in the sun times make no mistake about it third year big man Lauri Markkanen was one unhappy camper before the coronavirus put the NBA on hiatus unhappy enough that if the direction of the organization was going to stay unchanged he'd rather be elsewhere the good news is that the organization won't stay as it is the sun times was first to report back on all star Sunday that C. O. O. Michael Reinsdorf was in the initial stages of completing a restructure looking to move off of current general manager gar Forman the bad news will be enough to satisfy market in frustration I don't know that he's in position really demand anything right now I would also say that sometimes the player has to open up a little bit to his shortcomings and maybe Jim Boylen hasn't done a good enough job of helping bring lottery market along but he sure looks to be regressing before our very eyes and at some point does the player have to stand up and take some take some accountability for that yeah who's taken wide open threes then why aren't you making wide open threes right the everybody can see what's happening out on the court now you may not like the way you're being utilized you may not like the role that they've asked you to go ahead and play you know you don't necessarily like that but at the beginning of the season you kind of get it explain to you exactly what we expect out of you this is the role of this what we expect to see happens do you accept it or you go ahead and fight and do whatever you need I don't know what Lowry is anymore you know and I I don't know that we ever got I got totally clear picture I mean there was some hope and some promise but you know you're gonna be he could be eligible for an extension this offseason which I that's that should be those can be tricky waters I gas and and all this is now dependent it's all fluid now because it's dependent on what a new set of eyes thinks about la remark and invite you know he would be eligible for an extension he could go into next summer I think is a restricted free agent in play you know both of the potential to match an offer plan a qualifying offer but you're gonna come to a decision you're gonna a decision point here real soon on Larry mark and like does anybody know what he really is he was supposed to be the fulcrum of this rebuild I mean like he and Zach Levine and we don't even know if he ends that can play together they don't seem to they don't seem to mesh together all that well when they're on the floor I guess you'd say it's a small sample and fortune because injury we hasn't we haven't seen a ton of it but can they even play off of one another they were supposed to be the rebuilt you know and that where are we in this whole thing not very far along yeah nothing about the bulls is very promising except for the athletic prowess in the scoring ability exactly right really bad then when you'll take a look at the team to take away what we have we don't we have well Zach lavine's one hell of a player you know he gets up and down the floor I he can score the basketball doesn't play a ton of defense and that's a chance that you Chicago Bulls you didn't see enough of the kid out of North Carolina you saw flashes there toward the end he was getting good at the end and then everything had a pause you know only got one basketball though.

No. Thank you. here's the thing we don't really know what palinka but what is he actually accomplish okay lebron james chose to be a member of the lakers cool doesn't rob lincoln thing lebron james joe's mickey anthony davis a member of the lakers cool that's not a rob pelinka thing do i think rob pelinka will fill out a roster of depth around lebron the challenge of that cap situation effectively with all the evidence of last year's dobacco going against a really really don't can we do a bonus even though we're supposed to be done and i do a bonus one that we didn't get to of course can we do the cody bellinger one can i think it's funny sure we'll keep it going so during sunday's game between the dodgers and rockies play was stopped as a young teenage girl ran onto the field and hugged elliott outfielder cody bellinger here's a bill how to say about it after the game i I looked to my left and I saw his chick coordinator with her. and then she came up said i want hug you gave me a hug and the national gave me a house for your Yeah. She got tackled. I said, I'm going to jail and she's like, no. build your editor that to her final words if she said i'm going to read that over villager added that her final words as she was escorted off the field is quote it was worth it a similar incident happened last night as a twenty three year old female charge bellinger trying how came as well last night or two of them yes back to back females trying to hug cody bellinger Last night last on Sunday at one last night. Yes, we've there on the road last night from not mistaken. Okay. I'm sorry. Please continue. No, no, no, no worries. So buyers up being worth getting dragged off the field fined and possibly arrested to see a favorite player of yours up close. so we'll tell the story though because we have read on the show reading i've been friends for a long time and i once decided i was going to get really drunk at a cubs game and try to talk him into rushing onto the field wrigley and i came really he almost did it most god do it and looking back is probably going to be based on what we were in college i think or just post college let me ask you this fire sale that would have been awesome that i did or maybe a bad friend buyer sell that i would have been a bad person bad friend for talking to meet four a._m. to drunkenly running across wrigley field's diamond Trace. So. Two of them the by was mine. Okay. Traced you go first then. So you can expect then we gotta go because we're too late. funny one of those lifelong memories that especially in college i think employers understand maybe explain why they arrest record but i think have been funny in the end yeah i mean it i don't think it would have been good for read have that on his record that's why i went by there better hotel eight five five two one two four c._b._s. is the phone number would you have confidence rob pelinka eight five five two one two four c._b._s. we'll take your calls and get back in the vacation we come back to ride in the new with me bill ryder on c._b._s. sports radio what if courage was a job description and being fearless wasn't a choice but a necessity to discover that first thread starting a chain reaction that solve.

"Latest we mentioned at top of the show toronto raptors president masai your jerry says he's staying with the team that he turned into an n._b._a. champion jerry made the announcement during his season ending to availability this morning saying quote i love it here my family loves here my wife loves it here which is very important my kids are canadians you want to win more than my mind i'm here sources told e._s._p._n. earlier this month at the wizards made a huge play for masai preparing to offer him up to upwards ten million dollars anyway with possible ownership equity huge news though toronto he's chooses to stay with the raptors ryan do you think that gives toronto the edge to re-sign coli No. this is not a big deal oh no no no well here will be the edge here's the edge that you say helped out toronto their performance on the court they one kyle lowry pascal siaka danny green if he chooses to come back also that's the edge for kawhi leonard is not masai shutout messiah jerry though because he took a shot on collide leonard cheer here everybody told him not to said he was damaged goods you didn't know his health yet questions with this attitude questions with his leadership i mean he was thrown under every single bus the agean and it ends up playing out well for co why it really did i'm just wondering what do you think he's going to do i think what part what we love so much about why is that we don't know anything about him and i think that just adds so much more to his impending decision like is he got a sinus amac's stay in toronto five years one ninety s you're gonna go one plus one is you're going to go to the clippers on a four year deal won't said last week the sixers might get a meeting it's just so crazy everyone we ask who we have on the show frank is sola day mcmenamin just today i'm sure we'll ask tanya about it everyone just doesn't know we're all speculating and i think that just adds to the fun of what's going to happen here in a couple of days great point brock so it worked the post game pressures for e._s._p._n. last year and in so many words lebron james told us he's coming to los angeles right and leave in cleveland coming to l._a. you can put to the writing was there you could see it absolutely true when it comes to kawhi leonard also he gives us nothing but let's grasp onto what he does give you what i do know about kawai leonard quite leonard loves being at home he loves his family he's a simple guy and we learned he's also a fun guy who'd be determined so if you're coli leonard you come into the n._b._a. spoiled what i mean by spoiled fifty win seasons championship coach championship culture that's something lebron had define kobe bryant had to get phil jackson had to be joined by shaquille o'neal pau gasol later on in his career these are things that kawhi leonard was already gifted with in terms of going to toronto and winning it makes things incredibly hard for colli but we talk about leonard in who he is he loves san diego he loves riverside he loves his family so we're guy like anthony davis jimmy butler kevin durant what's the point in time was chasing rings kyri irving it's not the same priority would you look at collided yeah and you just hear all these crazy stories like the one that went viral about the apples the bag of apples at the team dinner you see the pictures of him supposedly at home depot buying cardboard boxes and you know the speculation just runs rampant because he doesn't say anything he's not active on social media instagram or twitter like every other n._b._a. player seemingly is and it just kind of let our imagination run wild when it comes to this guy we'll let me ask you this helped me here why the heck can't fans and sports analysts maybe i'm a culprit myself make up their mind on what they want from players and i say that brought one hundred per year one hundred percent right as saying it as a former player you can't stand the guy expressing himself you don't like lebron ona's shop right you don't like russell westbrook's close you want to talk to reporters go leonard as quite as he gives you nothing and it drives everybody crazy shutout michelle beedle she went off she went off on him and she also apologized saying michelle beatles segment of kawai leonard because she's an avid spurs man instead say something do something make up your mind because i'm an athlete i'm a former athlete i say would you want you penalize the guys who talk who tell you what they feel the brian james told you he feels like he's the greatest player of all time in public in you got the old school guys we talked about this which you kill o'neill the michael jordan say i would be disrespected guys ahead of me if i said that shack said i could say i'm the best greens the best but behind closed doors all these guys say it so how do you win if you're athlete do you speak do not speak what's the deal bro yeah we want the guys to give content so we love the speakers guys like te'o back in the day we love these guys because those three hours of content we got three hours to do every single day so we want the guys to talk we wanted to bait this was you right and saying this was he wrong but then we kill them when they say something we don't like so it's a double edged sword there but then when someone doesn't talk like why why won't he talk no why wouldn't he let us know some personality peek behind the curtain damned if you do damned if you give you some insight here's some more insight the absolute worst thing for the n._b._a. and i'm speaking through myself i'm not speaking as a representative for the league it's ronna winning the championship why kawhi leonard is a star guy that you want to market guess what you talked about her brock he don't want to be marketed don't wanna you don't wanna tell you left the jordan brand for new balance Walked out the set, bro. You're wearing Jordan. Oh, I wear them every day. walked his true you will leave jordan to go to new balance that says don't market me so for those who don't know in for me who has a little more insight but i didn't i can say ultimately don't know i wasn't a star player i didn't wanna championship i didn't do those things but there's p._r. and marketing that the league wants of you that nike jordan adidas whoever it may be a hey you won we wanna a parade you around what are you going next everybody wants that kawai refuses to do that so maybe we peek into his personality the clippers fit most hard working hard nose team costa the crib close to home but he's an intriguing personality in it's not that the league is working against the raptors it's just hard to market so you're the lebron james's you the steph currys heck the n._f._l. to a degree i bet they appreciate tara owens yeah he was the name of the news and by the way not talking has also been great for coli because we've done nothing in the media but talk about him not talking not talking it's been crazy so ultimately let's say let's just say in six days he chooses the clippers let's just say he comes out here where does that put them in your mind in the n._b._a. western conference my heart and keep in mind i was worked for the clippers broadcast team in studio some familiar with that same i would put them as favorites but i would have to wait and see what the lakers do see if rob pelinka i'm gonna point the rob pelinka he's in power if ruins a good thing right now what i mean by good thing lebron james anthony davis now fill in the rest of the pieces the hard work is done the hard work is to get in the star is done but if you look at the clippers they have two guys i don't know if you if you notice guys lou williams wins it mantras herald was up for six man they literally our team that so selfless that they don't have brock they don't have a starting small forward it's almost like leonard what we're opening for you opening all cried in how many teams do you have were your stars like i'm coming off the bench to ask manu ginobili manny would you like to come up much i'm coming up to mitch don't start me lou williams documents say don't start me so they have opened slaps for players to come in it's a plug and play type of situation for kawhi and i believe they would be cast into the favorites intil we see what l._a. has i can't wait to see what's Doc, Rivers championship pedigree, Jerry, West championship pedigree, interesting situation. Okay. Talking about interesting situations. My team. The Boston Celtics, ho don't know what real donate, what we're doing. holliday's fan did highlands van fan yeah i had some of my best times and that's what we're saying oh i don't know what we're doing We had a great plan two years ago. it all came into place then five minutes into the season gordon hayward snaps his foot and half and everything's kind of been chaotic since then mark stein saying the celtics emerging as stealth suitor for kemba walker That's really stealth. get rid get rid of kyrie irving he leaves goes to brooklyn and free agency like we all assume bring in kemba walker let's just say hypothetically that happens we'll kind of fit is that for boston i like it in the sense of the humility of kimba he's not a guy that say dominant vocal personality but he proves it with this play he's never been in a situation and we're talking kimba walker here on a rich eisen so he's never been in a situation where he he had teammates around him and i don't want to discredit the hard work those those guys had in charlotte the place where i was the team i was drafted to but he's never had a jaylen brown at jason tatum in those guys that are trying to grow into their own in the league so akimbo walker could be an excellent fit now brock i want to ask you this Who do you blame? You gotta blame. Somebody brother for the demise. mccalls the demise with the demise of the celtics this was a gross underachievement a gross underachievement i had super high expectations coming into the season as a fan how were the how high how high n._b._a. finals winning the east and going to the n._b._a. finals and maybe challenging golden state maybe winning a game or two fair that would have been a successful season without kyrie irving without gordon hayward they were four minutes from the n._b._a. finals in two thousand eighteen that's a fact i was that game seven i was there like that hurts i see like like there's some pain in your voice when you say rather i was there i watched terry rozier missed three after three after three that hurt more when we had lebron on the ropes back in two thousand twelve and we were up three two at the house and lebron went off and became lebron he became king day i'm still hurt by lebron took about ryan highlights have rain right now now it what from the brand james that would hurt that would hurt really bad but last year halves worth a better team they weren't the better team boston was a better how boston was the better team in two thousand eighteen even lebron yeah because it was abroad and just a bunch of spare parts and we had him on the roads we had him at home hey brock brock you remember look so good and green ryan so good in green most of us better team and everyone comes back.
