Russia issues arrest warrant for Lindsey Graham over Ukraine comments

"Russia has issued an arrest warrant for a U.S. senator. Russia wants to arrest senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina after what he said about the war in Ukraine. Graham met with Ukraine's president zelensky on Friday, zelensky's office later released an edited video in which senator Graham says the Russians are dying and describes U.S. Military assistance to Ukraine as the best money we've ever spent. Senator Graham appears to have made the remarks at different times in the conversation, but the short video by Ukraine's presidential office put them next to each other. It caused outrage in Russia. The Russian interior ministry then issued the arrest warrant. I'm Rita foley

"Put you back in your cubicle back in your office at DIA. Can you give us a sit rep situation report of the last 14 months because surprisingly, Ukraine has done quite well. So give us your analysis of the war to date briefly in terms of Ukrainian performance and Russian performance. Well, Ukraine has outperformed all expectations, right? The majority of intelligence analysts actually myself included expected Russia to run over Ukraine in a matter of a couple of weeks. Yes. Right. And that did not happen. And a lot of it has something to do with president zelensky, I believe, because he has inspired his fighters. He is, you know, he's an actor, right? And he brought all of his charisma. This communication skills. Communication skills, both to galvanize his own people, both the military, guys, the troops, and also the civilians, but most importantly, you know, the western camp, the United States and most European countries, especially the British. The British have been able to provide the level of support that no one expected, right? So we have provided tremendous amount of weaponry, you know, not just like the night vision, goggles and black books, right? Obama. And the hammer is, but real stuff, right? We're talking stingers, javelins, and all the way to our patriot missile defense system that the Russians actually consider as a strategic level system.

How Will Nikki Haley Handle Our National Security?

"Battery, there's been some differentiation among the Republican candidates, both declared an imminent, on weapons for Ukraine. Governor desantis is warned against a blank check. Former president Trump has denounced warmongers. Mike Pompeo and Tom cotton are sort on the other end. Send everything they need to win right now. Where's ambassador Haley on that spectrum of Republican support for the people of Ukraine and president zelensky. Don't send money. Don't send troops send all the equipment and ammunition they need with our allies and make sure that they have everything they need to win. We can do it by way of equipment and ammunition and working with our allies. We don't have to do it with checks and troops. Would you send F-16s and a tens? Yes, everything they need to win. Right. Nina, Iran is close to breakout. They're at 86% of what they need to have a nuclear weapon. Would you support U.S. acting with or without Israel against Iran to destroy that program? Well, I think we need to work with Israel. Israel is already onto it. Israel's already looking to move in that direction. I think we need to work with them. But we also need to work with our Arab allies. Saudi Arabia very much doesn't want Iran to get the bomb either. We need to work with them the emiratis, the qataris we've got to make sure we work with more countries to stop Iran and we have to call out China for helping them. But matter ambassador, they're less than a month away. They can have a nuclear weapon within a month. If you were president, would you have already ordered a military strike on Iran to destroy that capacity? If I was president, I would be having a meeting right now with Israel and the Arab countries saying, what are we going to do to stop it? This isn't just our fight alone. This is all of their fights. They are destruction to all terrorism. They are the number one state sponsor of terrorism. And we have to make sure we do everything to stop them. You don't just quickly say, oh, we're going to go to war. What you do is you get with your allies and see what that force is going to look like. And you get strategic in how you're going to do it.

You can put us in different places with different flags and different languages, but we have so many similarities. Raise for peace and freedom sing me he doesn't sing, but zelensky is part of the song. What same here in Ukrainian? Duck sum. We speak different languages in our life. "No fear. Nor should anyone in the world have it. Ukraine's gained this victory and it gives us courage. Which inspires the entire world. Rose one person who has been at the center of this, of course, is Ukraine's president zelensky. He's become a very visible international figure, testifying before the U.S. Congress going to other capitals to make the case why the world must keep its attention. On Ukraine must keep delivering arms and other aid to Ukraine. How important has president zelensky been in maintaining Ukraine's unity at home and also its ability to keep fighting? Well, incredibly important in arguably, he's been just the president that Ukraine needed in this moment. And it's funny thinking about the run up to the war now and away because people tended to dismiss him very much as someone who didn't have the heft to be a president during wartime, you know, of course there was all this talk that he might even leave the country in famously. He declined the offer to do so, but you can see that his skills at presenting a message at selling, in fact, Ukraine's cause in this moment relentlessly on social media, videos, all of it, appearing speeches at parliaments. You name it, he's done it. He's done anything that he can to remind people that this war is going on that Ukraine needs more money and more weapons to keep fighting and no event is too small or too large. To do that and you can say arguably that's made a tremendous difference in keeping the world's attention on Ukraine in rallying cause for money and weapons. If you look at other conflicts around the world that have gone on for a period of time, you can see that there's been a real challenge to maintain that kind of momentum. And perhaps that challenge will come for Ukraine if this war goes on for another year or beyond. But you can see some of that concern creeping in potentially now. He took a train from the Polish border to Kyiv and even as air raid sirens were sounding, he was meeting with president zelensky, and then walking the streets in a war zone. Highly symbolic, the president said he wants to leave no doubt about America's support. For as long as it takes, those are his words. The timing here is crucial. The president suddenly pops up. He suddenly appears in a foreign capital that is under attack. He is sticking it to Putin one year after Russia invaded. He stays sticking it to Putin he's really really, really tough. "You hear it live in studio west on this president's day, have a great president's day. President Biden is in Kyiv, Ukraine, making a surprise visit with president zelensky and the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine that has been turned back in which the United States has assisted Ukraine in turning it back headline Washington Post Biden makes surprise trip to Ukraine ahead of Russian invasion anniversary. President Biden visits Ukraine for first time since Russia's invasion and then The New York Times President Biden visit key if Ukraine's besieged capital, there's no New York Times reporter with President Biden in Kyiv. There is however a couple of Washington Post reporters there. So I go to their story. President Biden made a dramatic unannounced visit to Kyiv on Monday in a display of strong American support for Ukraine just four days before the anniversary of Russia's full scale invasion. The high risk visit to a Ukrainian capital that has been under threat of missile attack signals continued commitment from the United States. The largest financial and military background of Ukraine's efforts to repel Russian invaders from its territory. Biden was spotted outside saint Michael's golden dome monastery with Ukrainian president zelensky, the Ukrainian capital was in the security, locked down with car traffic halted, even pedestrians blocked from certain streets shortly afterward an air raid siren went off in the city, it's very dramatic. It may be the most memorable moment of the Biden presidency to date, and I applaud the president for doing this.

Federal Court Ruling Prevents Texas Teens From Getting Birth Control

"I want to talk about the Bible, but I got to give this story Texas federal judge rules against title 9 allowing teams to get birth control without telling their parents. Somebody somewhere explain to me. Why anybody think it's a good idea? I'm confused. I'm confused at like the parent children child dynamic. Who would think, man, thank God this judge got common sense. But who would think it makes sense for your kid to be on birth control without you knowing? Why would a kid need to be on birth control without their parents knowing? Birth control isn't appealed, you just put in your mouth and it stops you from getting pregnant. That's not what birth control is about in its totality. Many of these birth control pills, shots of their hormonal. So it messes with your hormones. I would argue you have to listen to my wife and the research that she's done and she said it's horrible for women. There's many advocates that say birth control is horrible. And if your child is living under your roof, they're not adults, they can not make that decision on their own. You are responsible for them. You should be protecting them and there's no way in the world that anybody should be prescribed anything to a kid, but after parents knowing.

And I listened to a some of the testimony I haven't listened to all of it because I got a whole bunch of other stuff I have to do throughout the day. But just listening to some of the testimony, I just don't understand how they certify the election in the state of Arizona. I mean, anytime you have people who are disenfranchised and disenfranchisement, see one of the people that were over the elections said that, well, 20% of machines were messed up and flawed, which was hundreds of machines, but they had an opportunity to drop their ballot in box number three or something like that. Remember the box it was. The box number three or whatever they call it. What is it? Yeah, box three. But that's not the thing, though. It doesn't matter if you can drop it your ballot in the box three because you should be able to use the machine as prescribed as made available. But nobody's talking about it because it's coming from the southern border and they don't want to shut the border down because they want more voters. I mean, we got crime out of control. Cops don't get paid enough to do what they're doing. Teachers, kids are completely stupid. Half of the half of them these days teachers don't get paid enough to teach these baby kids. They ain't got time. They ain't got time to be trying to erase your kids. They don't get paid enough. But your kids with them all day. In a city kids dominant in a bag of rocks. They don't get no good education. Can't even read on grade level. And we've given Ukraine money. How about you put that money into developing infrastructure in the inner cities? We don't need to go nowhere else in the country. Just go in the inner city. Just go to the places where these kids are failing, these kids can't even read that great level. They're in high school reading an elementary level. That's all you gotta do. Just go there and say, why is this messed up the way it is? We need to put better teachers in there, better curriculum, safe environment. Let's spend a $1 million to $5 million on that. Instead of getting billions of dollars to Ukraine, it ain't feeling a win, nothing. What are they winning? If they win, they ain't want nothing. If they lost it, they got nothing to do with us. That's just my opinion. We got our hands in too many folks stuff. We just got our hands all in people stuff. And see, I think the reason that our country is doing this because Biden is corrupt. And Biden and his son had business dealers in Ukraine. They probably got dirt in secrets on our government. That's why we're giving more and more money to them. Democrats and Republicans. Now I could be wrong. I wish a person would call in and tell me what's really going on. But we already helped you enough, bro we already helping the people enough. When are we going to start looking in the mirror? Yeah, people spending spending Christmas some people killing themselves during Christmas. They ain't got no money. They lost their job. Down the end of the road and we giving money to Ukraine. You know, it's just crazy to me, man. It's crazy to me. And I'm not a big advocate of a government anything. I think the government is inherently corrupt. However, I would rather you, instead of sending money overseas to send money right here in America. If it costs you a $1 billion to fix the homelessness problem, you might as well spend our money there instead of sending overseas. And we need a full audit as to everything zelensky is how he's using that money that we see in. We need an audit and we need to hold him accountable if he's not spending the money in ways posted. We

Ukrainian President Zelensky Addresses Congress

"I want to start out by talking about zelensky. And Nancy Pelosi. Doing the kiss of death. And I know you guys have seen it. I don't know if you've seen it or not, you know, but I think you may have seen it name, and it's the end of the day. And it's been all over social media. But Nancy Pelosi had zelensky, give a speech to Congress, and it was the most embarrassing thing that I've ever seen our country do. You have people who are not do who do not have a vested interest. And what's best for our country, people who do not have a vested interest in doing what's right. In my opinion, it's just a big social justice warrior. Propaganda show. That's all it is. Because if you look at it, gotta fix them a little mic here. If you look at it, why in the flying flip are we giving money to Ukraine? Republican and Democrat alike. Why are we giving money to Ukraine? The billions of dollars that we're promising to give money to, Ukraine. Why, if your country is at war, why are you in America?

Senate hits snag in bid to pass $1.7 trillion spending bill

"Congress is struggling to reach an agreement on a $1.7 trillion government funding bill, and the deadline to avoid a partial government shutdown is midnight Friday. On Wednesday the day Ukrainian president Vladimir zelensky addressed Congress, Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer urged colleagues to vote for the measure, which includes $44.9 billion in emergency assistance to Ukraine and NATO allies. President zelensky could not arrive at a more crucial moment for the Senate. But momentum toward passing the bill slowed later on, as lawmakers struggled to reach an agreement on an amendment needed for a final vote at issue is an amendment from Republican senator Mike Lee of Utah, which proposes extending pandemic era restrictions on asylum seekers at the border, once the Senate does vote the house will then have to pass the measure before midnight Friday. "Advice to Putin to stay away from using a nuclear weapon carries a lot more weight with Putin. And he knows that he could lose his only ally if in fact he engages some kind of battlefield nuclear weapon. So I think right now the likelihood is that Putin is going to continue to raise hell with cruise missiles with drones, but I think he's going to stay away from nuclear. We heard president zelensky refer to Russia as terrorists, several times this evening. Lumping them together with Iran, my understanding is president zelensky would like to have the United States designate Russia a terrorist entity. Would that advance the cause of freedom and democracy? Well, it's one of those issues that obviously the State Department and the Defense Department have to think carefully about using the labels with regards to terrorism. I believe that they're trying to negotiate some kind of agreement to basically designate Russia as an aggressor. That will give them some opportunity to be able to then use other approaches to be able to hit Russia. I think that makes some sense. I think once you use these designated labels that it carries a lot of implications that may not always represent the best interests for the United States or for the world. So I suspect they're going to try to develop some kind of negotiated agreement as to what they will label Russia as. To say one last one here, we heard president zelensky talk about apostle peace plan. We also heard in the news conference, I'm going to say, with President Biden, a ten point plan, he proposed to President Biden. He said President Biden has subscribed to that. Is that a serious effort to move toward peace? Because as I understand it, that plan almost by definition is something that Vladimir Putin at this point could not accept. Yeah, I think the bottom line is that Putin is not is not ready to negotiate. And he's going to continue to basically continue to pound the Ukrainians and continue to test the will of the United States. He's going to continue to do that. But I also think it's important that the message be that if there is to be a negotiation that Ukraine is going to want to protect its territory. That message needs to be heard. And I'm glad that the United States is basically embracing that kind of approach. I think the only thing that will convince Putin at this point is force. Putin doesn't listen to words. He doesn't listen to diplomacy. He doesn't listen to the urgings of other countries. The only thing that's going to move Putin is the use of force and hopefully that will ultimately bring him to some kind of negotiation. Mister secretary, thank you so much for being with us. That's very helpful. That's Leon Panetta. He's chairman of the Panetta institute for public policy. We want to go back to our colleague Joe Matthew now up on Capitol Hill. So Joe, right at the very end there, we saw president zelensky give a battle flat at bakhmut battle flag that seemed to have signatures on it to the secretary. The Speaker of the House. And she gave him an American flag and returned. What do we know about it? That's

"What difference will those make on the battlefield? What we're talking about here are patriot batteries with interceptors that are an air defense system. And it's an air defense system that's very advanced. Obviously very capable. We've been using variants of the patriot system since the Gulf War. It's that reliable. And we have patriots deployed around the world. It will make a significant contribution to Ukraine's ability to defend itself from this onslaught. And that's the only way you can describe it, David, is an onslaught of cruise missiles and drones Iranian drones that Russia has been literally just flying into the country and trying to destroy civilian critical infrastructure. This patriot battery once it gets on the ground and it's going to take a little time. But once it gets there, it will make a significant contribution. So Emeril, I have told and you have to tell me the truth that these will not be as effective against drones, but maybe against the cruise missiles, particularly some of the launch from fixed wing aircraft. What is the risk that actually will be shooting down I should say Ukrainians will be shooting down a Russian aircraft over the border. The patriot is designed really designed in its core for ballistic missiles. And that's what that's kind of what its DNA is all about. So it will be effective against cruise missiles, although they fly differently than ballistic missiles. I understand that. But it will still be useful in effect against cruise missiles. Now we have seen reports that the Russians are actually looking at trying to maybe perhaps purchase ballistic missiles from Iran. Iran has a burgeoning and growing developing ballistic missile program. We haven't seen that deal consummated, but if it would, this patriot battery would certainly be very effective against that. You're right, less so against drones, drones fly very low to the ground very slow. They're harder to detect. But Ukrainians already have a lot of short range air defense systems available to them. And they've been quite effective against these drones. In fact, some of the systems we provided them, these nasams, these advanced surface air missiles that we've developed in concert with the Norwegians. They have been very effective against cruise missiles and drones inside Ukraine. And you mentioned the appreciation that we'll hear in all likelihood from president zelensky for what's been done. We heard certainly from President Biden today about how extensive the U.S. support. By the way, not just U.S. support as President Biden pointed out, but those are our allies as well has been for Ukraine. At the same time, there is the issue of what happens next. And we heard from president zelensky, he is confident, optimistic, maybe even confident that even with the changes, particularly in the majority of the house side, that will continue. To what extent is that part of the function of this remark that these remarks even tonight? President zelensky understands well, the need to go up on Capitol Hill and talk to lawmakers because they are the ones that control the purse strings. And by in a bipartisan way, buy camera away, Congress has been very supportive of Ukraine. And you see that even this week, as we're preparing for another omnibus spending bill here that will provide another $45 billion for Ukraine. So there has been tremendous bipartisan support and President Biden talk about that today. He fully expects that that support will continue going forward. Even with a Republican led House of Representatives, we're confident that we're going to be able to keep that going. Just to keep our audience surprised, what we're watching right now if you're watching on television is Chuck Schumer, the majority leader in the Senate, as well as Mitch McConnell in order to make their way down that aisle. President zelensky was making his way shortly down the same aisle. One of the questions that was asked in the news conference today, admiral was, what comes next? Why aren't we why are we doing this in piecemeal way instead of going all the way right from the beginning? I'm not sure I heard the answer to that question. So what is the answer? We had resisted, for example, the patriot missiles. Now we're giving them. Why don't we go all the way right away? The president was talking about the evolving nature of this war. And when the war first started ten months ago, and we were talking publicly about javelin, anti tank missiles, because it was an armored approach on Kyiv and that's what the Ukrainians needed in the fight then. Then when the fight moved to the east and the Donbass, we talked about how it looked like Kansas and farmland and how artillery and long-range fires, high Mars. We're going to be very effective. And so we provided that. Now air defense is the most critical need that the Ukrainians have given this constant onslaught of cruise missiles and drones. And so the patriot will be a complimentary effort to all the other air defense capabilities that not only us, but so many other allies and partners have provided. So you evolve the needs to the war to the battlefield. And we've been doing that since the very beginning. We're talking to the Ukrainians almost every day about their needs and doing the best we can to accommodate them in the moment. And right now we are seeing president zelensky make his way down the aisle in the chamber of the House, being congratulated by as long as it looks like on both sides of the aisle. Everyone wants to get a handshake with presidents. Let's get the moment. Finally, admiral if I could ask you, what is success look from your point of view? If this works perfectly tonight, what will come of it? I think president zelensky is the one that's going to be determining success. And he's made it clear. In fact, President Biden said, we share the same vision, a free prosperous secure and independent Ukraine. And that's what we really want here. That's what president zelensky wants. And he's going to, he's going to keep fighting for it. Admiral, thank you so much, there's retired rear, I know John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications for the National Security Council. And now we see prisons shaking the hand of the vice president Kamala Harris and then at the street of the House Nancy Pelosi. Now he stands up to podium to begin his remarks to a joint meeting of Congress

"Say no more. I spoke earlier with a congressman Dan Kildee, a Democrat from Michigan who said that president zelensky will be speaking directly to those House Republicans, including Kevin McCarthy, speaker in waiting, and he says that face to face conversation will likely have an impact on McCarthy, some of the others, though, and the rank and file like Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene, he says, David, that's a very different story. Yeah, and that's a surprise about Marjorie Taylor Greene. That's for sure. Thank you so much, Joe. Really great to have you with us. And Joe will be with us. Again, we're going to be covering the lose conference at four 30 in Eastern Time as well as president zelensky's address to Congress. That will be live here on Bloomberg at 7 30 this evening. Eastern Time. And now we go to The White House for its perspective on exactly what's happening today. Amanda slowed his special assistant to the president and National Security Council senior director for Europe. So thank you so much, miss loeff for being with us. So set the stage for us in a different way here. How did this come about? Because this is a very dramatic announcement for most of us who didn't know it was coming. Well, thanks for having me and obviously a lot of excitement here at The White House as we await the arrival of president zelensky in just a couple of hours. As you know, the two presidents have spoken frequently throughout the war, president zelensky was here at The White House last September and president zelensky has long wanted to visit The White House to be able to have conversations with President Biden in person. So this is something that we had been discussing with the Ukrainians obviously deferred to president zelensky on when he felt it was the appropriate time in the safe time for him to be able to leave the country and really delighted to have the opportunity to welcome him here today. Let me just pursue that if I could for a moment, you said a safe time. Is it a matter of safety? Is that the reason for the timing? Because a lot of people are wondering, is there something specifically right now that is important for president zelensky to be here? Something on the ground back in Ukraine
