Jan. 6: Trump spurned aides' pleas to call off Capitol mob
"The house January 6 panel has ended its summer of hearings detailing Donald Trump's failures to concede his election loss and to call off capitol rioters Panel member Elaine luria says when Trump returned to the Oval Office after whipping up backers at a rally he was quickly told about the riot Within 15 minutes Yet for 187 minutes luria and Adam kinzinger said the president simply watched the violence on TV He chose not to act Instead White House aide Sarah Matthews who quit on the spot said in a prime time hearing the president poured gas on the fire with a tweet calling vice president Pence a coward for not going along with his false stolen election claims It was essentially him giving the green light to these people The president eventually told backers to go home The next day in a previously unaired outtake of a speech to the nation This election is now over Congress has certified the results I don't want to say the elections over Sagar Meghani Washington

"Attack police officers and chant heinous things like hang Mike Pence to me, his refusal to act and call off the mob that day and his refusal to condemn the violence was indefensible. How would you say cohesively this hearing has gone? Has it been compelling from start to finish? Has it had as solid an impact as some of the previous ones? I think it has had a very solid impact. It is just because of the sheer aggregation of all of this testimony. These are all people who were in The White House or were around The White House, and they're all presenting a very consistent picture. There's also one interesting point which may seem small, but it's glaring The White House photographer testified that they were not able to take any pictures during this period from after the time that the president gave his speech at the rally point near The White House all the way until that video was made more than three hours later. Testing perhaps that maybe The White House didn't want people to see what was going on during those three hours, all of this, I think, has been pretty powerful. We didn't have any huge shockwaves maybe that we had in some of the previous hearings, but just this by repetition over and over finding out how little was actually done in The White House and how desperate many of these people were for the president to act has been very, very compelling, something else knew. The hearing has featured voices of Secret Service members. Some of them who were protecting former vice president Mike Pence calling their families, they said to say goodbye because they were in fear for their lives. Right, this went way beyond just the video that we've seen of former vice president Pence and some of the people running out of the capitol and trying to get to a safe spot. This was the actual audio from some of the people that were in the security team with Mike Pence and as you mentioned, they were actually calling their family members saying, we don't know what's going to happen. We're concerned, making those calls that they don't know if this could be their last moments. That was very compelling. And then the fact that they showed the video of at the same time that Pence was leaving the capitol, they also showed a lot of the back and forth with the audio and the video of what the people in the capitol were doing at the time and how these security officials were trying to figure out a path basically to safely get the vice president out of the capital to a safe place. There was a lot of new information there. And then also one other thing they showed something that had never been shown before. And that was Senate leaders Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer speaking to security officials trying to find out exactly when they could get back into the capitol. This happening after the former president made
Alan Dershowitz: Jan. 6 Hearings Not Far From McCarthyism
"They put on president Trump's speech but they doctored the speech and they left out the words I want you to go to the capitol and patriotically and peacefully let your voices be heard So even if you hear one side like for example in a grand jury if a prosecutor ever did that put forward a tape and doctored it they'd be disciplined perhaps this Bard and that's what's going on here You hear these accusations being made not only by the committee but by their handpicked narrative espousing CNN CNN just repeats everything they say And then they put Larry tribe my former colleague on and he says well president Trump was guilty of attempting to murder vice president Pence Nobody responds Nobody answers If a law student ever said that on a first year criminal law exam they fail Even with great inflation So what we're hearing is a completely one sided presentation And I'm a Liberal Democrat I voted for Biden and I voted for Clinton And I find this thing unacceptable and intolerable and that throwback to mccarthyism
Mark Levin: Michael Luttig Never Spoke to VP Mike Pence
"You know ladies and gentlemen here's the deal I'm Friends with Mike Pence and I'm Friends with Donald Trump And I'm friends with many of the people who work for both of them I've known pencil a long time He's a very good man Here's something else I know that did not come out in the hearing I'm told from a very reliable and high source I'm told that Michael ludik who is one of the quote unquote star witnesses today Was never asked for advice by vice president prince was never asked for counsel by vice president Pence And I am told never spoke to vice president Pence That's what I'm told If I'm wrong I'm wrong but wouldn't it be interesting to find out
What we know about how Pence's day unfolded on Jan. 6
"Today's January 6th committee hearing will focus on former president Trump's last ditch efforts to pressure vice president Mike Pence to overturn the results of the 2020 election Mike Pence won't be testifying at this afternoon's hearing but he will be in the spotlight as the focus of the committee turns to former president Trump's attempts to persuade his vice president to somehow reject the electoral count and deliver him a second term so that committee vice chair Liz Cheney The select committee will examine president Trump's relentless effort on January 6th and in the days beforehand to pressure vice president Pence to refuse to count lawful electoral votes As a federal judge has indicated this likely violated two federal criminal statutes The committee is expected to hear from Greg Jacob former council vice president Pence and pence's informal adviser J Michael Ludwig a retired judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals who called the plan incorrect at every turn The session is also expected to divulge new evidence about the dangers Pence faced that day as the mob stormed the capitol Jennifer King Washington
Republicans Don't Want to Protect Supreme Court Justices' Staff
"You tweeted at Jim Jordan who should just stop. He said, did anyone talk about the assassination attempt on Kavanaugh and you said anyone here ever talk about the assassination attempt on vice president Pence? I mean, hi. Hi. Yeah, yeah. And that's what it should be called because that's what it was. It was an assassination attempt. If what happened to Kavanaugh was an assassination attempt, you know, what I keep saying, the not attempt since no assassination was actually attempted. Which again, I'm not saying it wasn't a scary situation. It was a scary situation. But the way the right is using that, like, oh, why are we wasting our time on an insurrection when a guy with a gun, you know, wandered outside of Brett Kavanaugh's house and then turned himself in and admitted that he was mentally ill and suicidal. And, you know, why aren't we talking about that all the time? That's the right right now. Well, and then apparently the bill to give more protection to Supreme Court Justices to the Democrats added in safety for their staffers. And now the bill is dead because the Republicans don't want Supreme Court Justices staff members to be safe. Right, right. And I don't know if it was conyers or somebody else that said, you know, well, they've never been threatened. Why are we bothering? And it's like, oh my God. Who do you think is around them? Exactly. You know, who do you think, do you understand how any of this works? The idea that the staff of all hasn't your own staff have been threatened? Exactly. Well, they're not important,
Axios: J. Michael Luttig Expected to Testify for Jan. 6 Hearings
"Jane Michael ludik a former federal judge and lawyer who advised former vice president Mike Pence Is expected to testify in the January 6th select committees public hearings this month axios has learned the committee which has until now been interviewing witnesses behind closed doors revealed little about its plans for the public hearings set to begin next week The desire to showcase luda a judge Lion eyes within the conservative legal movement matches what sources have described as the committee strategy to reach as broad an audience as possible cooling conservatives He was a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the fourth circuit And apparently he was behind the scenes a key adviser to vice president Pence on what he could and couldn't do As the president of the Senate when it came to the counting of electors Now ludig was hated and detested by the Democrats hated and detested by Biden And the others He was often thought of as a possible nominee to the United States Supreme Court But it was also thought an impossible task to get him confirmed because of the Democrat
The Truth About Vice President Mike Pence
"Marriage. Now, I never, ever in all these years talked about you and George, because I think people's private lives and their family lives, especially when children are there, are just not on the table for discussion. And so you bury your soul in this book, and people want to read about that can, but I want to go to something I didn't know. And as I read a book, I make my notes, I make my questions, and I wrote when I got to page the first time you mentioned Mike Pence, you were his pollster and political analyst for 5 years. And I wrote down for my notes. To ask Kellyanne, did he do the right thing on January 6th? But then I get the page four 67 and you tell us for a week. The media quote was working overtime to suggest vice president Pence would ruin his reputation to destroy his own political future by exceeding to his boss and refusing to certify the results. So you answered my question before I got to ask the question, that's why you got to read the whole book before you interview someone. Mike Pence is one of the best men I've ever met. And I don't know what his political future is. Are you back working for him, Kellyanne Conway? Well, I've one of the few people in the country who talks to Donald Trump and Mike Pence fairly regularly and I'm very grateful that that team one in 2016 stopped Hillary and her corrupt machine from taking over. And being in power and also just delivered amazing accomplishments. And I think that team is very important to recognize all that they did together as a team. I write about that because it's a good example here, and there are many throughout the book of the media just presuming they know what's going to happen. They always presume they know who someone is. What's in their heart? What's in their mind? What motivates them? And that's just not true. It was not true in that example. It certainly wasn't true about Russia collusion. It wasn't true about Hillary beating Trump handily. And so again, again, they fail upward without accountability. And look, I think that the break between the former president and former vice president is regrettable, but people should remember everything they were able to do together.

Trump acquitted in impeachment trial; 7 GOP Senators vote with Democrats to convict
"Historic day in washington today a majority of senators including seven republicans voted to convict former president trump on the charge of inciting an insurrection on january. Six never before have so many senators cross party lines to convict a us president but it was not enough and president. Trump will hold the distinction of being the only president impeach- and acquitted twice but the trial. Tonight's vote revealed deep divides both across the country and within the republican party. Now both will try to move forward. We're covering all of it tonight. We begin with casey hunt on capitol hill former president. Donald trump tonight declared not guilty at the impeachment charge. He incited insurrection. At the capitol on january six is hereby acquitted of the charge instead article seven. Republican senators voting with democrats to convict fifty seven to forty three. The most bipartisan senate. Impeachment vote in history but far short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict forty. Three republicans voted not guilty including republican leader. Mitch mcconnell but mcconnell still offered a blistering indictment of trump's action or that impeachment was never meant to be the final forum for american justice. President trump is still obel for everything he did while he was in office. The former president defiant in a statement calling the trial a witch hunt and insisting our historic patriotic and beautiful movement to make america. Great again has only just begun the vote coming just over a month after rioters invaded the capital and took the very chamber where the vote was held. Then vice president pence to safety as he was hunted in the halls senators casting their votes tonight from desks. That were ransacked by the rioters. After then president trump said he would walk to the capital with them. We fight fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell you're not gonna have a country anymore. The final moments donald trump's historic second impeachment trial playing out. after a day of missteps and confusion. The debate is not an order at the last minute house. Managers unexpectedly calling to subpoena a witness to explain how the top house republican leader called president trump on the sixth to beg for his help. The president said well kevin. I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are case. This was the shortest impeachment trial ever. That's right jose. And they didn't call witnesses today in part because members of both parties were anxious to move on many republicans. Wanna put the trump era behind them and democrats want to focus on president. Biden's corona virus relief package to speed vaccine distribution and send more stimulus checks to americans. They're racing to pass that bill before. Unemployment benefits expire for millions in mid march. Jose hundred the capital. Thank you throughout the trial. There was a sense that there were not enough. Republicans to convict but more ended up voting guilty than expected leading to more questions about the future of the party and the former president. Here's kelly o'donnell mr cassidy not enough to convict but enough to make history seven. Republicans turned away from donald trump. north carolina's richard. Burr retiring next year. Surprised colleagues mr burr. Mr guilty six others had signalled their intentions straw. Ni guilty the most ever to vote to convict a president of their own party. If trial by impeachment is ultimately political theater what is the next act for republicans and a twice acquitted former president. Who today gets to his freedom to run again. We love you. We will be back in some form while. Republicans protected mr trump. Gop leader mitch. Mcconnell welcomed the prospect of criminal charges against the former president as the better venue for justice didn't get away with anything. Mcconnell also suggests trump voters are being unfairly held hostage are ex-presidents associates. Have tried to use the seventy four million americans who voted to reelect him as a kind of human shield against criticism. Trump's arden's allies may keep up threats to purge any republicans who backed impeachment like house. Republican conference chair lays cheney who already beat back one challenge to her leadership post. Who says you can't stand up against boyce. Who says in my mind was a hero for standing up for the truth.

Trump and DOJ attorney had plan to replace his acting AG and undo Georgia election result
"And let me ask you about this extraordinary report from The New York Times last night that President Trump is plotting To get rid of the acting Justice Department Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen and replace him with a loyalist who would pressure Georgia lawmakers. Into overturning the state's presidential election results of obviously with with no proof I tell us about this story. It's an amazing story. Scott. It shows how far Trump was willing to go. It tells us that in the final days of his presidency, he was not only pressing those state officials you mentioned to produce different results, and he was not only pressuring vice president Pence to reject certified electoral votes from states. But he was trying to install a new attorney general who would contradict the con, contradict his own Justice Department findings and tell the states that there was evidence of fraud when there was not All this before the day he incited the riot at the Capitol and all this in an unlawful effort to overturn the results of the election and remain in office, and that matters Especially because in two weeks, the most important question before the Senate is whether to bar trump from future office.

'Strong evidence' shows rioters intended to 'capture and assassinate elected officials,' prosecutors say
"Capital riot, recurrent regards the so called que non shaman. Jacob Chan's leave. Arizona is accused of taking parts in the riots while sporting face paint, no shirt and a furry hat with horns. But while Chancellor's appearance has been the stuff of ridicule, prosecutors say his intentions were in their words. Capture and assassinate elected officials in court documents hints at a more organized effort than first thought. Let's bring in w T o p national security correspondent J. J Green to talk more about this J. J. Why do investigators think writers had plans to actually kill US officials? Yeah, Brennan and Shawn. It's because of the tale of the tape and the transcript prosecutors in Phoenix or in court right now seeking pretrial detention of Chan's Lee, and it's because they say they have strong evidence, including chancellor his own words, which are on video in some places. And his actions at the Capitol that support what they say was the intent of capital rioters to capture and assassinate officials in the U. S government. And that was something that they found evidence of, or at least statements made by Numerous other people that have been involved in this not just on the day of the riot but leading up to it. And even since then, That's the reason why they think there is something to this. And that's the reason why so many people are being rounded up and asked about this particular thing. But JJ during the news conference today by the U. S attorney for D, C and the FBI, the officials there suggested they didn't have any direct Evidence of that yet that the mob intended to murder someone. What does that tell you about the investigation? At this point? Yeah, They're only a week into the investigation, and they're still rounding up suspects and and and evidence, of course, and I think authorities were saying they don't have any evidence that they were organized teams or groups of people that were organized to do this, But that doesn't mean That there wasn't the intent to do this because again looking at some of the weapons that ended up in there. They were firearms in there. There were, um, hammers. There were knives. There were all sorts of items that could inflict bodily harm, and there were people. They said to be to have been literally hunting down members of Congress and other officials. And we're very close to actually getting to vice president Pence and some of them were chanting Hang pants. So you know there is a significant concern about that, actually, being something that was on the minds of people, so this investigation is still kind of early. They maybe haven't found the Actual concrete slam dunk information they want, but there's definitely some indication that it was on the minds of some people now onto the concern about arm protests, possibly around the country. You've talked with law enforcement officials in other states, including Virginia. They say it is a very real concern. What have you learned? Yeah, just spoke not too long ago with Brian Moran, the secretary of public safety and Homeland Security in Virginia. And he made it clear They knew about this intelligence that the FBI brought to us this week, he said. We knew about that several weeks ago. We've been working on this for a while. "And the news at Thanks so much for being here. It's the mike room had. Shall we appreciate your time this morning? Big debate Last night, vice presidential candidates got to say it was what I expected it to be there a couple of very competent debaters. Very good at what they do very good on topic. And very good at not answering a question directly that they didn't want to. Every debate happens that way. Um, I had Rick Romley on the air with me, and I want to get to some of the results of what other people are saying in a moment. But if you were listening this morning, I I do things a little differently. I guess. First of all, I hope everybody knows how much I like. Mr Romley always have always will. But it's not about whether I like him or not. If I bring a guest on the air, I want to give them the time to answer the questions that I ask them because I have all the time in the world which I'm going to do now in rebuttal. And so I don't agree with Mr Romley that Kamala Harris was the clear cut winner last night. I think both candidates shined a different times. And I think both of them showed flaws of different times. And I think when, with the worst part of the evening for Senator Harris was when it was very obvious to everyone involved that they were not. That campaign is not going to answer the question of the American people about stacking the Supreme Court. Which is a very big deal to people. If you are going to change what's been happening for over 100 years with the Supreme Court, going from 9 to 13 justice is the American people want to know you're going to do it? And then it's more important that Joe Biden show the list of justice is he would put up there for nomination. Especially since there's a distinct possibility that the Democrats will control the Senate, which means they control the Judiciary Committee, which means they only need 50 votes, plus the vice president in order to get a nominee through. That I thought was was a win for vice president Pence. But Rick roundly talked about that. He thought that there were three things that were very distinct. One of them was that is subtly speaking that he was rude to to this to the senator and that women it will impact the woman vote. And you know they tried this with George Stephanopoulos. Stephanopoulos said last night that he did. A lot of Pence did a lot of mansplaining while the women on the panel disagreed with him. That's not how they saw it. But I want you to hear what Mr Romney had to say about this. This election is some to a great degree going, Teo be impacted by the woman vote. And that is a subtlety that women have known for a long time that they are sometimes not listen to not being an opportunity to express your opinion, and I think it's solidified the woman vote much more behind the Biden Harris campaign and their reelection effort. So is that is that true that women don't feel listen to and and that was going to be a big decider. I've had a couple of women that are conservative women, by the way, reach out to me this morning and say, What's he talking about? That's not what I heard it all. So that again anecdotal on that evidence It's the old joke. My ex wife said She divorced me for two reasons. Number one. I never listened to her and not something else. Andi and so in this case, I don't know that it came across that way. Hey, did interrupt more often than Senator Harris did, But I think hey, made a lot of valid points, and some of those things were in his rebuttal. That doesn't mean it was the polite thing to do. But I don't know that it was seen as being overly rude and Frank lunch who was a very well known pollster who I've had on the show before very respected person in the industry. He had a panel during the debate a live panel during the debate. Of undecided voters admittedly undecided voters and here's what they saw last night in the debate. Voters found that Kamala Harris was abrasive and condescending at various points throughout the debate. The complaint about Kamala Harris was that she was abrasive and condescending Lunch, said 15 undecided voters from eight battleground states throughout the evening. Complain about Mike Pence that he was too tired. But he was vice presidential or presidential went on to say that if this was a battle of style over substance, which is often the case in an undecided voter because they simply do not choose on policy. They also chews on persona than it was Mike Pence's night, according to this small panel of people that was only 15 voters, but this is what that panel said. He also clarified and said, it's not that Pence did so well, it's that they the voters felt both candidates were not answering the questions as well as they should they would have liked despite this, his panel of voters said between the two nominees. They were two nominees were significantly more cordial to each other than Trump and Biden word to each other. He also went on to say they really didn't like the ducking of the questions, but they were so much happier with the debate than they were the first one. First when they were embarrassed by they were upset about the lack of decorum. They were frustrated and said that at this point, they were ducking the question and pivoting. He said Voters were frustrated with the vice president for repeatedly running over his allotted time. They said that wasn't the right thing to do. But they didn't like that. When you saw during a an answer from From Camilla Harris. Mike Pence stood kind of stoic. And Kamala Harris was smirking and shaking her head and rolling her eyes. This panel of 15 undecided voters didn't like that about Kamala Harris. So I disagree that there was a very clear cut victory last night. I thought Mike Pence made more points than I thought he was going to someone that I saw was a win for him. And for them, But in the end, the vice president's do not decide this election. It still is going to come down to Biden and Trump and that is always the way it's going to be. In a moment, we're going to look ahead to the next debate..

But both wave a small audience members have been told they must wear masks for the duration of the debate. Senator Harris and Vice President Pence Thank you for being here. We're meeting as President Trump and the first lady continued to undergo treatment in Washington after testing positive for covert 19. We send our thoughts and prayers to them for their rapid and complete recovery and for the recovery of everyone afflicted by the Corona virus. Two campaigns in the commission on presidential Debates have agreed to the ground rules for tonight. I'm here to enforce them on behalf of the millions of Americans who are watching. One note. No one in either campaign or at the commission are anywhere else has been told in advance. What topics All raise or what questions I'll ask. This 90 minute debate will be divided into nine segments of about 10 minutes each. I'll begin a segment by posing a question to each of you, sometimes the same question, sometimes a different question on the same topic. You will then have two minutes to answer without interruption by me or the other candidate. Then we'll take six minutes or so to discuss the issue. At that point, although there will always be more to say will move on to the next topic. We want a debate that is lively. But Americans also deserve a discussion that isthe civil These are tumultuous times, but we can and will have a respectful exchange about the big issues facing our nation. Let's begin with the ongoing pandemic that has cost our country so much. Senator Harris. The Corona virus is not under control. Over the past week, Johns Hopkins reports that 39 states have had Mork over cases over the past seven days. And in the week before Nine states have set new records. Even if a vaccine is released soon the next administration will face hard choices. What would a Biden administration due in January and February that a Trump administration wouldn't do? Would you impose new lockdowns for businesses and schools and hot spots a federal mandate to wear masks? You have two minutes to respond without interruption. Thank you, Susan. Well, the American people have witnessed what is the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country. And here are the facts. 210,000 dead people in our country in just the last several months. Over seven million people who have contracted this disease. One in five business is closed. We're looking at front line workers who have been treated like sacrificial workers. We're looking at over 30 million people. So in the last several months had to file for unemployment. And here's the thing. On January 28th. Vice president and the president were informed. About the nature of this panda. They were informed that it's lethal and consequence that it is airborne. That it will affect young people. And that it would be contracted because it is airborne. And they knew what was happening. And they didn't tell you. Can you imagine if you knew on January 28th as opposed to march 13th what? They knew what you might have done to prepare. They knew and they covered it up. The president said it was a hoax. Minimize the seriousness of it. The president said. You're on one side of his ledger. If you wear a mask, you're on the other side of his ledger. If you don't And in spite of all of that, today, they still don't have a plan. I still don't have a plan. Well, Joe Biden does and our plan is about what we need to do around a national strategy. Contact tracing for testing for administration of the vaccine and making sure that it will be free for all. That is the plan that Joe Biden has and that I have knowing that we have to get a hold of what has been going on and we need to save our country. And Joe Biden is the best leader to do that. And frankly, this administration has forfeited. Thank you say or write to re election based on this. Thank you, Senator Harris. President Pence more than 210,000 Americans have died of covert 19 since February. The U. S death toll as a percentage of our population is higher than that of almost every other wealthy nation on Earth. For instance, our death rate is 2.5 times that of Canada next door. You head the administration's Corona Virus task force. Why is the U. S death toll as a percentage of our population higher than that of almost every other wealthy country and you have two minutes to respond without interruption. Susan. Thank you on. I want to thank the commission and the University of Utah for hosting this event. Onda, Senator Harris. It's privileged to be on the stage with you. In our nation has gone through a very challenging time this year. But I want the American people to know. From the very first day. President Donald Trump has put the health of America first. Before there were more than five cases in the United States. All people who had returned from China President Donald Trump did what no other American president had ever done. That was, he suspended all travel from China, the second largest economy in the world. No Senator Joe Biden. Biden opposed that decision. He said. It was xenophobic and hysterical. But I can tell you having led the White House Corona virus task forces. That decision alone by President Trump bought us invaluable time to stand up the greatest national mobilization. Since World War two And I believe it's saved hundreds of thousands of American lives because with that time we were able to reinvent testing more than 115 million tests have been done. Today We were able to see to the delivery of billions of supplies, so our doctors and nurses had the resource is sport they needed and we began really before the month of February was art to develop a vaccine and develop medicines and therapeutics had been saving lives all along the way. Under President Trump's leadership operation Warp speed, we believe will have literally tens of millions of doses of vaccine before the end of this year. The reality is.

In fact, there's a great photo on BBC News story has a photo of both Joe Biden and Vice president Pence. You know, greeting each other and they're doing an elbow bump. They're both wearing black masks. And it was. It's amazing given how poisonous the atmosphere politically is. There's something so reassuring to me about that pictures. It felt like there was a return to normalcy or something. And personally, I mean, anybody looks a show. No, I You know I can't stand the politics of Mike Pence, but just to see Mike Pence And Joe Biden, you know, just sort of properly, you know, acknowledging each other and out and not flaming out. I thought I gave me are a rare moment of hope for this country politically, actually. You know, I don't know. If reassuring is the word I would use but refreshing. Yes. Refreshing. Okay, something similar. I was refreshed just to see like some normal. Okay? We disagree. But what does that matter in this moment, right? Why can't we get back to focusing on some things as Americans? I get it. There are some things in front of us that are so huge that it's you know, no justice, no peace, but at the same time sometimes we need some peace. We need to shake hands. We need to sit down and one of those times If 9 11 is not one of those times, and I don't know what is it was it was to see us not to see both of these candidates not even politicized this moment into stay. You know, to stay on on message. What This is about one of the things that that 9 11 meant to me. Always. Was it unified us as a country What I do Remember after 9 11 was just feeling like, Yeah, we're Americans, and that's the first thing that matters. It's not all that matters, but it's the only thing that matters and we can't lose. It's kind of like a sweater. You know your sweater holds together. But there's one or two threads that if you pull this thing all falls apart if that part of our thread Cannot fall apart. The fact that we're Americans and I hope that people with all the mudslinging I get it. Everyone's picked the side. You're frustrated, but there's nothing wrong with going back to this thought. It doesn't make you less Democrats or Republicans toe look across the aisle and go. Hey, that's my brother. That's my sister. They want what's best for the country. We just disagree on how to get there. You know, it's great. It is true. I mean, tragedies often bring Ah people together and a 9 11 was certainly unexamined. Maybe even the last time that we were all together, but it wasn't just our country. Remember, I think it was the French prime minister at the time. It was definitely a European at the time Who said we're all Americans today. That the entire sort of Western civilization you know, felt a unity with the United States that maybe hasn't been there since. But it does tend to bring us back together. And it is amazing. Can you believe it's 19 years ago? I know if it does, it's that is that's just so remarkable. That's an entire generation Entire. You know, you could have a kid born and you know he'd be in college at this 190.19 years later, fascinating. My daughter's in the 19 years old. Also exact way we're talking about. That's exactly what we're talking about. I remember 9 11, literally. I remember being in my big getting a phone call from a friend of mine and he said, Hey, man were under war under attack, And I'm like, Wait. What are you talking about? Under attack Right now you turn on the TV and it was like, boom, right? Just like You're like, like tossed into the other world of of information and learning, and a whole lot came through that process, But I don't know. I I think it's one of those things we can never forget. To be honest with you. I'm still a little sad that we haven't even taken this moment. Maurine this country It feels like we're we're remembering the meaning of it less and less to be. Oh, do you? Do you remember where you were on 9 11? Well, yeah. In fact, John and I have talked about this just about every anniversary, So I was working at Cairo 19. Years ago. I was on the news desk now my shift started 10. And so I was literally still in bed. I think my when the first plane hit and my wife was getting my kids ready for school or something, I think they said, Oh, my God. There's a plane that just hit the World Trade Center and I remember thinking at the time because there had been in the news in the last year or two.
