Fresh update on "prescott" discussed on Nightcap with Ryan Gates
"He did it for two years. Dak Prescott just signed his shorter term deal. Average money per year. $40 million. The total guaranteed money, by the way very close to Mahomes 126,000,141 million. Get to that in a second. Prescott did it for five years. Shawn Watson got just south of $40 Million.39 million per year. Watson did it for two years. Russell Wilson 35 million On this contract. He was 56 years in the previous contract. I think he was three years in Aaron Rodgers. Obviously plenty of years in Jared Goff Golf, got his big extension. After two years of really solid play. He had the really bad rookie year. And then he was really good year two under Sean McVeigh. He was great again Year three, and they paid him. Two years. Carson Wentz. In Philadelphia. Oh, actually, once might be the one I forgot. I had an anomaly guy in here, I think went actually might be that guy. Once might be the one player. That's signed after one elite season. 2019 was the first year so actually, no, it was too He was having that M V p level season in 2017 where Nick Foles goes on to win the Super Bowl. And then 2018. He's pretty good. He's very good. Even 11 games played 3000 yards Average of 280 yards per game. 21 Touchdown, seven picks Really good season from Carson once so It was a good rookie year. Pretty good rookie year from once an elite second year and that are very good third year and then they paid him. So all these guys Like the precedent is there. I don't think the bills need to break from precedent. Don't know what the pressure is for that Why is there pressure for them to do that? Because again, this doesn't strike me as a guy that's going to become a problem. If you don't do it right now. Not at all. I think you're gonna be fine. The relationship is strong enough. To wait here. The precedent is there for it. And the risk is minimal. So why on earth would the bills pay him this offseason? It just doesn't It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Asked why they would do it now. And I don't know this Just kind of reading the tea leaves of how Brandon Beane sounds whenever he talks about an alien extension. But Bean sounds to me like a guy that thinks the same way. That he's open to doing it this offseason, but he doesn't sound like he needs to do it this offseason. And Behind the scenes. If he wanted to wait a year. I think he would probably sound exactly the way he has sounded. Because he's not going to come right out and say No, We're not paying him this offseason. We're not. We're gonna wait here. You're not going to get that. So I think It's very possible that the bills that's what their plan is that they're going to go one more year and then they're going to give Josh Ellen's big mega extension. And again, there's nothing wrong with that. To me. There's no strong argument against it. But You let me know what you think. If you think that is too risky that you don't even wanna Go down the road of any potential disagreement with your franchise quarterback. I'm not afraid of it. Believe Nick Beane and Alan hard there to their relationship is too strong and I don't think there's risk. I don't think there's a problem that could develop. So To me. It's a non issue. But maybe you think differently, and I do want to get into the The style of the contract. Prescott versus Mahomes Press got signed a four year deal. Mahomes signed a 10 year deal. Benefits and negatives to both of those things, both for the player and for the team. I'll get into that When we come back, we'll take your calls and see the phones flashing right now. Activists Demand Answers After Nooses Found At Amazon Construction Site
"Month ago, nooses began appearing at an Amazon warehouse construction site in Connecticut. Police now say that only two of the eight ropes found by the sites workers were actual nooses as that investigation continues. Social justice advocates are trying to work with Amazon and the buildings contractor to make sure workers there feel safe. Connecticut Public Radio's Frankie Graziano has more Windsor, Connecticut Police chief Donald Melanson told NPR this morning only two of eight ropes reported on the site are being investigated his nooses that's news to Scott X S. Dale of the ACP, who's been talking to the contractor. We've been dealing with this situation close to six weeks now, everything that they've told us that the ropes that they've seen Would be considered a noose for as Dale. It's more confusion on top of an already confusing situation. He's just trying to make sure workers are okay. The most important thing is the individuals that On the site that are scared, and they shouldn't be scared. They should be able to give a hard day's work and get home safe to their families. The noose is a symbol of hate, and it stresses Corin Prescott out. She led a protest at the site last week. Many of our brothers and sisters hunger From nooses like the ones they were left here at Amazon to protesters chained themselves to a gate. Cornell Lewis was one of them. Okay, change of this fence. We want to know what is Amazon going stupid? Brad Griggs as a leader on Amazon's economic development team, which moved to secure the site after 1/7 news was reported. We did so after really pushing our developers and the general contractor to take control of this situation, Greg says. Amazon ordered the shutdown, even though it hasn't yet taken over the site. While we believe things were being managed appropriately. You know, looking back, we could have stepped in to assess the situation and understand what steps were being taken maybe a little bit earlier. Greg says Amazon's reevaluating its partnership with companies currently managing the site, the developer and the contractor. Scannell

Cowboys' Mike McCarthy reacts to Dak Prescott contract
"Talk about the cowboys. Were coming off a disappointing first season under head coach. Mike mccarthy but looking ahead there is all kinds of hope after they signed prescott finally to that long-term deal yesterday. The coach spoke about his expectations. Here's what he said was actually I was in florida when the deals was finally completed It's a lot easier to do cartwheels on the sand. I'll say that I'm excited about your two of the offense because frankly a lot of ways we felt like we didn't really have get to have your one so we're excited about what we can do. This with the healthy offense.
Will the Lawsuits Against Watson Stall 1st-Round Picks?
"At this point. There have been thirteen civil lawsuits. I think got it is literally not trying to make light of its changing by the hour. Sarah barshop covers. The texans for us is constantly reporting these new lawsuits alleging sexual harassment. Or in some cases. Assault against the shawn watson I have just been sitting back waiting for the news to come in reading the suits. Watson's lawyers have not responded in full yet. I think there's going to be much more like a. We're going to get not just more information. But also kind of someone kind of synthesizing all of this and explaining what it means for watson and i'm not talking about football just like what it means for his future in and what it means for these women forward i like. I'm not i haven't been doing this. Just been kind of going with the news and waiting for it. All of this. As like. I find i have found the discourse on it already to be incredibly toxic and dispiriting and the whole story. It's very sad in. It is definitely it also coming at this crazy moment. Where if this like literally a week ago. You and i probably on shows talking about. Will this team's going to do this. And this team that we just don't know now. So i just like i have no idea how this is going to play out. Not just for the accusers for him. But all any of the teams involved in this including houston. It is a black box at the moment for me john. Yeah and and. I think that you handled the non-football element of this extremely well. And i echo ditto everything that you said from. And so i'll have to say that. That exact thing that you just said way better than i could but i will take it to a football to a trade element side because it was what we were all talking about with the dak prescott contract for so long now because we both sorta gone silent as we all were sitting back watching not having take about it as we're trying to figure out and and synthesize everything It makes it extremely difficult based on volume and the details in the allegations for any team to trade what would be equivalent to four first picks Because i if you do that right now you're saying to your fans because there's no way that you can properly investigate a dozen claims If you if you go to shawn watson this week and so you're saying well we we investigated and we all know that that's why Or you're also saying what we didn't investigate and we don't care and you can't do that and And so there's it's a holding pattern right now And obviously role in the real world realized stuff is what's most important here but it had. It was such a gigantic. nfl story. Whereas the shawn watson gonna land one with the jay leno panthers give up and now it sort of disappeared. And i do think that we do have to sort of touch on it and say no one can do anything right
Did Washington Do Enough to Push Dallas in the NFC?
"Did washington football teams teamers and the giants do enough to push dallas in the nfc. So i left philly out. I don't yeah. I just don't i am found anyone who really thinks they're going to be competitive. I mean let's wait and see got jalen whatever. But that's a team that they're not really fun to talk about. Because their free agency considered like stripping you know but i mean they did sign at harris for like nothing which is probably better sightings but what you have in jalen also you serianni. Yes hundred percent but washington in york both very active and did interesting. Things i think are worth discussing because dallas after the dak prescott deal was finally done. They've kind of made a few moves around the margins adding kia neil. Getting tied as kind of swing. Tackle still have question marks at adra sure and coroner but washington like i think they might have had my favorite free agency or at least the one that i'm most excited to see. I don't know payoff on the field. So just to recap. They signed the aforementioned ryan fitzpatrick one year. Ten million dollars. They tag branch eff. Who's there Pro bowler guard. They signed william jackson from the bengals. Cornerback three years. Forty two million dollars and then added panthers wide receiver. Curtis samuel for three years thirty four point five million dollars so just starting like let's start here. Do you agree with me like do you. Do you like what they did. And do you think it makes them an actual competitor in the division. A really like what. Washington did You know. I think among the guys among the quarterback that they could get because not only were they never in it for russell wilson or or wherever really going to be competitive for shawn watson You had to start looking okay. We'll what's realistic. And it's the ryan fitzpatrick coming off his best his career. It's an andy dalton and whereas that really gonna lead you I think that there was a lot of interest in marcus. Mariota he still is not able to sign with another team because the raiders are still holding him hostage But so. I like the quarterback. Move because you're essentially saying let's build up the team the and let's have the strongest team possible around the quarterback position where we don't sell out just because we have to for that position free agency. Maybe they make a move at the draft for a guy that they have their eye on. Or maybe they just say let's. Let's keep the boat floating this year and let's make our move Next free agency. So i thought that they probably overpaid by million or two on curtis samuel. But they wanted him And and ron rivera really likes them. Obviously william jackson an incredible deal You look around and you need another pass rusher and they can they can probably keep ryan kerrigan as a third down specialist if he comes down off his number end so you know he's he's still doing that. He's gonna get paid a whole lot of money. I'm not sure that that money is really out there especially at this point in free agency so they didn't want to mortgage their future for for quarterback right. Now they wanted to keep the boat afloat. I that and so. I like what they have done. Specially on evens. Then when you consider the the sort of offense and the pre-snap that they can have with all those offensive playmakers. Now that curtis annuals there with terry corn. I really like with done.
Bears' Super Bowl odds fall after Dalton signing
"The chicago bears have signed quarterback. Andy dalton the deal is for one year ten million dollars plus another three mill incentives. He spent the last season with the cowboys started. The last nine games of the season detect prescott fractured his right ankle. the super bowl odds by the way have gotten worse since they signed him yesterday. The bears odds to win it. All in two thousand twenty one dropped from forty one to fifty to
Seattle Seahawks Today: Latest Rumors On A Russell Wilson Trade
"Originally or a few a few weeks ago russell. Wilson's camp released some information that he was unhappy in seattle. They have not formally requested a trade but it seems like the relationship has some conflict there. he has a no trade clause in his contract. There were specific exemptions from four. Team's the cowboys. The saints the bears and las vegas after dak prescott signed is extent like talked about and the raiders recently have back derek carr. They've given their full support. They they wanna move forward their cars. So that really leaves the saints and the bears as the final two candidates for possibly getting russell wilson this offseason so saints are always in salary cap trouble From what. I've learned about the salary cap they can. They ended up being able to just move money around when they need to. But they're always close to reaching that point so they're always during the cat but it seems unlikely that they will be able to make a move for quarterback this price in this caliber. So when you re comes down to it. The bears like the front runners as the most desperate team. Four quarterback if you've watched the nfl shares have always had quarterback issues. They've been in quarterback hell so to speak for the past two decades and russell. Wilson could come in and immediately fix that so the bears are desperate. And i see the bears as the front running candidate to lead russell wilson or land russell. Wilson this offseason. So when did all this start with russell. wilson is come out of nowhere I would say to myself when i first saw. Russell wilson wants out. I was shocked. But although it's not that cut and dry comes down to russell wilson. Mp carol's relationship. So they've won a superbowl. They made playoffs made. They made the playoffs. Eight times in the last nine seasons which is absurd. It's absurd to think there was wasn't been playing in the nfl for the last nine seasons But he's been assault as they come. He's true winner. he goes to the playoffs. he's clutch and i see. The situation is very similar to the tom. Brady situation new england. You had tom brady and bill play for all those years. Winning all those super bowls and talk. Although tom brady wasn't playing up to his level he wasn't playing bad and they had that loss to the titans of the playoffs. And i think he just had those two egos bill. Belichick and tom brady kind of going at each other. And they've they've finally kind of just tired of that relationship and they wanted to move on. They wanted to start. Something new. And when quarterbacks are with the head coach for so long things start to take a turn for the worst so. I'm not sure if that's exactly what's happening with p carroll and russell wilson but there are a lot of similarities there so it was reported in week. Eleven of the season. That wilson stormed out of an offensive meeting when he was trying to offer insight as to what he wanted done as on a bit done for protection standpoint and so that was the first sign the second sign is just overall. He's been getting hit way. Too much. says he's sacked. He's been three hundred ninety four times since entering the league which is on pace to be the most sat quarterback of all time which is pretty insane when you consider how well he's played and he's just been under duress running for his life literally for the last his whole career and so seattle hasn't found a way to kind of sure up that protection for him. I think that's starting to get frustrating as well. So but more specifically in two thousand twenty. He had a week nine loss to the bills. This was a defining moment for this offense offense because after that moment. Russell wilson had started to throw a lot of turnovers making a lot of risky plays they lose to the bills. The seahawks kind of started to scale the offense back like i said to limit turnovers and did not perform well for the rest of the season so before that game. They were top. Three league based on expected points added per play. They were the number three the top three leak and then after that game from from weeknight on they felt a number eighteen the remainder of the season. So that's a huge huge drop off so they really sputtered down the stretch. They were able to win games and make the playoffs through to their defense. Kind of picking picking up. Their play was weird. Their offense was so good in the beginning the defense awful and he kind of flipped that latter half of the year but he's also getting hit It doesn't seem to meet on their offensive loss of beat philosophy and he. He's definitely voiced that he wants more of a say. In the franchise direction as the franchise quarterback so all these things culminating into one is. Where would he end up.
Dak Prescott Awarded a Record-Setting Deal With the Cowboys
"Talk about Dak Prescott. Just general your general thoughts on the contract. When you when you saw it, you know, look it was a big win for him by any metrics put that said I gotta give you know Galesburg p.m. For five years and he looked at it. It was Thirty 1 million on a one-year deal and then you know the next floor 160 that's roughly, you know one 91/5 and that comes in a blender, you know, basically like 32, which is a little bit under DeShaun Watson. So if you look at on a five-year deal you could say hey baby over paid a little bit, but they got their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable. True. Yeah,

Dallas Cowboys Agree To Terms With Dak Prescott
"I you know, the Dallas Cowboys and Dakota Prescott came to an agreement. He got a four-year 160 million dollar contract with $126 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $66 million the highest in NFL history. Okay, which is amazing. Now. That's a lot of money obviously, but everybody can agree Jack was very underpaid for his first four seasons. So he's making up for it now dead. And you know, that's what we're going with he's making up for it now. Yes, he's making up for now. Yeah, she's making up for it now. Okay, let me know when you're ready for me to chime in. Well convenient page. Mike won't work during the segment. So he played his first four seasons with Dallas for an average of a million a year last season. He played under the franchise tag, which got him 31.4 million months. And as we know he was a star in his first four seasons, but
QB Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys reach four-year, $160 million deal
"Dak prescott got a bundle of cash. A bundle guaranteed with his four year contract extension signed with the dallas cowboys yesterday. He got his bag. I think the kids call it john. Well listen here's what we know the. Nfl is an economic endeavor. Not unlike monopoly. You either pay less than something's worth or more or in theory equal and you add up all your pluses and minuses and tells you how good your team is over what it should be
Big money brings bigger expectations for Dak
"You finally needed me. Dan Orlovsky, the great analyst for the Mothership. NFL Live continues daily throughout the entire off season at four Eastern on ESPN, Catch Dan with Adam Schefter. Marcus Spears, meaning times Laura Rutledge, four. P. M. Eastern daily on ESPN. Dan. Thanks for joining us. Did the Cowboys have a great day? Yesterday? The Cowboys did not Jack Prescott did Jack press cop Doc Prescott. His family did. But this is a big time swing and miss for the Cowboys. I think that they took a calculated risk. You know, they tried to be patient and patient and patient and didn't want to do something like the Rams and the Eagles did. But man, that is a ton of money to give that Prescott What should the expectation Level B for cowboy fans this year? This year. It Luis, You're stuck in second round of the playoffs. Sniffing your NFC championship game, You know, like here's Here's. This is what my comment is with this, and it's the old saying too much is given much is expected. This is why I was very cautious of giving Dak Prescott a ton of money or second most quarterback money. It's going to impact your football team and we can't snow sit here and say, Well, he's really good. But the expectation status, saying the expectations have to be elevated. Not only individually Hey, what are left tackles out. We still have to win the game on the road against the New York Jets because they stink or when we don't have a Mark Cooper. We still got to play good at the position because you're supposed to be And a difference maker. When it comes to the finances. It's a bad division. I still have to wait to see what happens in Washington at the quarterback spot. If they got a quarterback that I thought was a good player arrived. Patrick I think that I would favor them to win the division because I think Dallas still has issues defensively Offensive
NFL Franchise Tag Tracker, Denver Broncos
"Own ego signing the franchise tag is gonna make you more money. In the long run. You will make more money off the franchise tag because you're still going to get the big money deal the next year or the year after. And it's interesting for like Dak Prescott, For example, he ended up getting the five year deal that Dallas ended up wanting simultaneously. He got more money up front. I mean, I think I remember he was six years ago. Control. They got everything they wanted out of exactly right. But on the other side, he had to wait for Patrick Holmes deal to come in. Yes, way for John Watson and better And that's you saying the market on Lee goes up You is an NFL team. You are one of two entities. You are the people that set the market or you are the people that are reacting to it. That's it. There is no in between, and so you can either get out in front of it and pay a guy and it's gonna be a cheap deal in two years. It's gonna be expensive. Looking at the front end. You're gonna get a little laughter when you sign it. And then two years and then your best bet go well, you got a quarterback, that's 80% of the market. Or you're gonna be. You know the team that it's reacting to the market and get going over pay for stuff. That's what happens. You know, the faster you get the deal done, the better off. You are period point blank end of discussion. By the way. Marcus may also got tagged today. So is it. We're tying to justice that was expected, You know, Like I said, I can't go to the particulars. But I had a great conversation there Senior bowl with Eric Burkhardt, who's Marcus Mae's agent? We're talking about the situation and everything, And I think those two safeties are eyeballing each other as far as what the contract Sorry. It's gonna be a question. Which team blinks first, but this was kind of like If we go back several years, everyone Dez Bryant and Marius Thomas. Both got tags. They both ended up getting their contracts done, but they literally got done within the same day. Well, it was pulled. Teams were waiting on the other one, You know, to kind of see the framework and see if they were the same ballpark. This deal done. And finally Jerry was, like, just do it here, you know, And that's and then the Broncos like, okay, we'll offer you that. It is very same thing crazy, so it might come down to the same kind of deal And if the Jets can get Marcus made done, they think Justin's will get done first, and I think it will get done early. Okay, So I think Justin's deal we've got well before the draft. Okay. All right. I like that. They've got to well after that to get it done. So that's just my hunch. Um, based on what I know about both sides of the situation and and again, it kind of comes back to the whole procedural word that was used. That was the word that the Broncos used. That's the word that we've understood this entire time. You've been listening the program, we said From a procedural standpoint, the Broncos will likely use that franchise tag for the second time on Justine Simmons is not the intense and not give him a long term deal. People are misunderstanding this situation, and I even had questions today about okay. Well, if they would've pushed back the franchise tag, maybe the Broncos could've gotten something done. Or maybe the Broncos should have tried to do something like the Cowboys were. This whole deal came together in like 24 hours. The fact is, if you You with the way it's supposed to be viewed, which is what the Broncos are doing. This is a we don't want you going anywhere. We don't want to risk getting to the final 11th hour and all of a sudden there's a paperwork issue, and we can't do a bill. That's exactly right. We do not want to risk that. We're not gonna stub our toe. And so we're going to go ahead and get this thing done now and understand they on the other side. The expectation by all parties involved is to get something long term done. Yeah, um and how it should be used by the way the doctor getting it done in 24 hours. I hate that. I hate that term because it's It's not really They were close last year last they were. They were close last twosome framework there, But I'm saying that like it really escalated over the last 24 hours. To appoint, at least at some of the reporting this out there really escalated over the last 24 hours that they were able to get to the finish line right before the franchise tag deadline, right, so that that's that's the thing Dallas has been called. They were close, actually Latin. Not last year, the year before last, Scuse me. Before the first tag that September. They were close. Stephen Jones, They believed they had it. They believed they had it and they were. There were some issues with length and and how the final two years of the deal were structured and all that kind of stopping. It fell apart last night, but they they thought Dallas thought they had it done. S o. You know, I'll just I'll just leave that at that. And we can we go up but a sparse the Broncos go. I have no doubts that they'll get this deal done. I really don't have 99.999999999% Sure they get this thing done, Okay? And then as far as
Titans Trade 2020 First-Round Pick To Dolphins
"By seeing the titans finally Traded the offensive linemen. Isaiah wilson their first round pick Twenty twenty first round. Pick these kind of things you see this as a fan of a team you know. Just put yourself in their shoes for a second. I know i know they're the enemy if you're not a titans fan but the fact that your team has to trade a first round pick before the next season starts i s terrible man. It's as bad as the raiders. Have not limbaugh because they understood. What the hell. They were doing with him but he was later pick. But this guy didn't even get a chance to play. Because kobe did all that and then he calls all kinds of issues he was tweeting stuff out and delete and stuff. Titans saying get out of your man. They literally they treat him for nothing. They traded a him seventh round. Pick in two thousand twenty two for seventh-round twenty twenty one. I think just terrible it is. That's horrible man. If i was a fan of that team i'd be pissed and that's a good football team. It's a well run football team so to see that happen to them sucks. But i'm glad that they cut that in now. They got rid of that. When you when you see that kind of stuff grow him. Just get rid of it. So if you're a titans fan while you're not happy about the pick you gotta be happy about the urgency that he took the no nonsense approach to just move on from. It didn't work out. He wasn't working out. You move on cut bait and you and you move on i. I respect that quick action. You know when when is justified. When is justified. I believe it's justified in this case. Dallas Cowboys Reach Multi-Year Deal With Star Quarterback Dak Prescott
"Salary cabin number for two thousand and twenty one is going to be twenty two point two million dollars all right now. Head dak prescott. In franchise tag again this will happen in a procedural sense but had to cow tried to go at this with dak prescott on the franchise tag for the two thousand and twenty one season. We've talked about this a number of times. That value would have been thirty. Seven point seven million dollars so the fact that the cow is now have him onto the books. We're talking about the value that is on the books in the books. However you want to look at the books whether they're e books or physical books whatever the case may be that value is now twenty two point two million dollars now. I know that we have all said some things about the dallas cowboys but they are not complete dummies. They surely budgeted for the franchise tag value. Because let's be honest. They came about twenty four hours. We think you know. Close to having the actually placed the franchise tag and maybe carried out with that prescott. So the cowboys have room for the franchise tag at the very least so you look at that quake matt that adam schefter was kind enough to do for you. That is fifteen point. Five million dollars that the dallas cowboys suddenly have because they've got this long term deal with that prescott. This is something that we've been saying for two years now. If you do this you can. You can kick this down the road. You can prorate it you can extended you can whatever term you want to put on it. You can spread the impact of the deal out of the signing bonus of the overall guaranteed money out over the lives of the contract so it doesn't hit you all at once. That's the one killer about the franchise tag is that it is fully and completely guaranteed in franchise tag is a one year deal so the value of it last year and dak prescott was on the tag for thirty one point. Four million dollars. The two thousand twenty dallas cowboys had to absorb that value all at once and they would have had to have done it again. Here in two thousand and twenty one but because they have adjusted that they now have fifteen and a half million dollars that they were seemingly budgeting for dak prescott that now they can apply to different areas. Maybe it is a safety. Maybe it's a defensive end. Maybe it's a defensive tackle. Maybe it's you know an offensive tackle. But they want swing tackled death whatever the case may be. We know that the cowboys obviously hold the tenth overall. Pick in the draft. They could go a number of different directions there. They wanna cornerback kayla farther patrick's retain do wanna take one of the tackles and rashawn slater as all this is. This is setting up and this is an important thing. I want you to hear me here and watch me here. You cannot waste this money. If dallas cowboys the whole point and getting this done with thac prescott besides obviously establishing having the best player on your team for the foreseeable future the point in doing this is to alleviate the salary cap space now. And i don't like the term when now if you watch us often you know that but you look state of the nfc east. It is by sudha. I mean the philadelphia. Eagles are a disaster. The new york giants doping daniel jones is legitimate. The washington football team has a great team but is void of the most important position of the game and a quarterback. Maybe they'd get somebody this cycle as we all expect quarterbacks to change teams at a higher rate than usual but the case in point is at the dallas cowboys are now. We're going to see this all day on tuesday by the way and we'll talk about it of course but they're going to be overwhelming favorites to win the nfc streit and you think about the conference that they plan is really a contender in the nfc. And i mean that with all due respect to the reigning champion tampa bay buccaneers. But you've got the bucks you've got the green bay packers and then who scares you. May maybe the rams you believe in matthew stafford but the point is thinking about the afc. I mean the. Afc has the bills and the ravens and the chiefs and the titans and the steelers and the browns. I mean you could go. A number of different ways. Did the colts have carson. Wentz ends up getting his act together and so the cowboys play in the weakest division in the weaker conference and so now they have this opportunity to really kind of take their future in the here and now they have fifteen and a half million dollars that they weren't necessarily planning on having use it and if they don't use it it is all for not so i mean we are all imploring the dallas cowboys to ultimately use this salary cap space. This is a very very very luxurious gift. That they now have been afforded that they didn't previously have so shattered of course to the dallas cowboys. Let's see here let's move. I'm i wanna talk of course about the bonus the dak prescott because well. It's stupid large. I mean it's amazing. Dak prescott has now the largest signing bonus in the nfl. You look at joe flacco. Once upon a time. Got forty million. Dollars matt ryan forty six and a half. Remember if you're on the fence about this value. We've talked about this before as well. Matt ryan became the first quarterback in nfl history to average over. He had thirty but to average at least thirty million dollars per year with his new contract that he signed with the atlanta falcons in two thousand and eighteen. That was three years ago. Dak prescott signed a four six year. Deal whatever you wanna call it. That was three years ago. They matt ryan signed that he was the first quarterback to hit the thirty million dollars a year. Mark prescott just hit forty but the reality and we've been saying this forever is that there are so many deals coming around the bend. Josh allens gotta get paid. Lamar jackson's gotta get paid. Baker mayfield's got to get paid extra calories. He's going to get paid the year after that. It's going to be time for joe burrow to finally get paid and when all of those players get paid this forty million dollars a year. Mark the dak prescott got this one hundred twenty six million dollar. Total guaranteed is sixty six million dollar signing bonus all these things that are currently the top of the nfl. The most in nfl history. That's the verbiage in determining that you're hearing associated with this and it's all literally true but it's all going to get pushed down because all of these players on this list. Joe flacco matt ryan matthew stafford at fifty million signing bonus. Aaron rodgers fifty. Seven and a half russell wilson not going to be a dallas cowboy now by the way sixty five million dollars. Dak prescott topped that all of these quarterbacks in all likelihood we'll top that that's the reality of the nfl things are always moving in one direction. It is up
Washington releases Alex Smith following quarterback's Comeback Player of the Year season
"Quickly. I have some news that has just come in from adam. Schefters twitter feed. And it's not a surprise but the washington football team has released alex smith. Who was this year's choice for the nfl's comeback player of the year overwhelmingly. So he has been released. They save almost fifteen million dollars cap space so in an off season. Where does shawn watson might be available. Dak prescott might be available. Russell wilson might be available louis. How interested do you think teams will be alex smith as he becomes available now. I think alex is a tremendous mentor. I think alex would be a tremendous bridge quarterback at this point in time these people are going to really try and connect the dots between him in chicago given his familiarity with matt nagy and that system that they run in chicago like it was in kansas city. I don't think that's a that's the option that they're looking for but look. I have nothing but infinite. Respect for alex smith at any team would be better served having him in their in their quarterback room for sure.

"At the deadline in July. So he accepted the risk of playing poorly or suffering an injury that could potentially diminish his value is situated ingredients really unprecedented because the only other quarterbacks to play on the franchise tag drew brees and Kirk cousins they did it over a combined three seasons and they started every single game during those three different seasons. So now Prescott season ends after sixty nine consecutive starts. After five games, he's guaranteed the thirty one point four million dollars franchise tag on the one year contract. The cowboys can't negotiate a new deal with him until after this season ends. So they'll face a decision at the end of the year depending on how they view the significance of this injury. As to whether, they want to sign another one year franchise tag deal with them or they still wanNA pursue the multiyear deal being somewhat uncertain about his physical state. But every indication is that Dak Prescott will continue as the cowboys starting quarterback next season. Okay. So there we have that Edward or outstanding as always. Thank you. We will come back to you as this continues to develop and bring it here to the table and Dan you were not a part of the conversation. When we talked about the business side of this earlier, there are two sides to this clearly a Dak Prescott the face of that franchise and the emotional moment is he's being taken off the field. is where part of the conversation is but how about his future in? Dallas right now, how do you see it? I don't think there's any chance that deck Prescott please anywhere else Dallas next year and I would not have said that Saturday and Saturday I would've said, see what happens with the season the expectations are really high. There's he's had some struggles in the first half games after that moment yesterday in watching net team respond him in their emotion. There is no chance that he is not back as their starting quarterback next year whether it's the franchise tag or long term extension that I snap is going to be taken by Dak Prescott and I think the reality For Jerry Jones. How much does leadership actually matter to you like what's the price tag for leadership in? What's the price tag for culture because I know this that place is better with Dak Prescott as their quarterback when it comes to that stuff and I just feel this way if they don't bring him back, that'll break that organization. It'll break them because I can't imagine being player. In watching what I saw on the field today on a team on that team and Jerry Jones go Nah, we're better off with someone else. I'm better offering someone else here. So I think as tragic as this today was it proved a lot to me that he's the absolute bona fide franchise quarterback for them. Agree with every word you said, but there was a great movie about. Football called North Dallas Forty in which there is a legendary line and which one of the players says every time I say it's a game you say it's a business and every time I say it's a business. You say it's a game at the end of the day. It's a business and I do not believe it is a foregone conclusion that this thing plays out exactly the. Way The player would like it and the way all the other players around the national football league would like because that's just not the way business in the NFL tends to go no and unfortunately you're right Greenie because quite you know Dan brings up a great point in the locker room that Prescott.

"Boars one colleague. He'll join us on a hoc-, but first the news of the day of course is that the Dallas cowboys decided not to cave in to Dak Prescott contract demands, which means he will be playing on the franchise tag. This season Robert Parker the floor is yours. Here, we did so do Chris Russo. I've been telling you over and over. It he'll dead. Way Medicines since March I. Tried to tell you that this wasn't going to happen that DAX. They weren't gonNA. Side back to a deal and I'm going to tell you this. This is more than just about world. He's on a franchise tag. They'll get a deal. Dum Da da. You know what they just did. They just muddied the water. When it comes to Dak Prescott they just told everybody in the national football league where they're throwing money around like it's monopoly money. Everybody's getting paid. All of quarterbacks got paid, but they don't WanNa. Make their franchise quarterback. The Guy who's in route to being a lead. They don't WanNa make him happy. They don't WanNa. Pay Him and have everybody rally around him I'm sorry. Somebody helped me out. Jerry Jones. Really. What are you waiting on? I don't WanNa. Say Jerry Jones is all, but they moved his to offers from the stadium to the cemetery. Let's face it. How long do you have? And what you've done issue just compromised Dak Prescott in front of all of his teammates. How can they look at him and go? They wouldn't even cash dead dude out. They don't even believe in him. They didn't want to make him happy. They could have looked at it and said we got a short window, a small window which trying to win Super Bowl. We got all the pieces here and now you're going to have a guy out there trying to prove that he should have been signed and that he deserved it. There's doubt all around the National Football League today about Dak Prescott. What didn't he get cash? Dow, they would give it away money. Anybody coming along Teddy Bridgewater gotta deal for you quiet data hill. We gotta deal for you anybody in their uncle. We gotta deal for you way what you had a great Qbr last year. What you would ask you at your best to Tisco year. What and they still didn't Ben? To give the guy what he wanted and it's only going to cost them more money the Logger Day Wayne That tells me more and more that he could wind up like kirk cousins and have to go elsewhere to get a paycheck and God forbid that he gets off to a bad start. He doesn't play well and the cowboys don't make the playoffs again. The bottom line remains that Jerry Jones Undressed Dak Prescott today. He humiliated him in front of all of his teammates and to the rest of the national. League National Football League because he refused to do what everybody else's dumb. Dammit Matthew Stafford gotta deal with his deal with was up and they had to pay him. He had a playoff game in a decade. And Dak Prescott has to go walking around Dallas. His tail between his legs and a franchise tag slapped across his back 'cause. He's not worthy of giving him the deal to make him feel good and get. A chance I'll super bowl for this drivel. But. I got admit I'm disappointed. I'm disappointed. I thought you were coming much stronger. I thought you much harder than that. I I was thinking. Being. Amen is going to have the Mike. Can You admit that you cannot about the Mike? Sue I'M A man. Yes, I was wrong. I thought they'd sign him happy. I'm a grown a man. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it wit much stout. I was wrong. I thought they'd signing so white. He's still about the play for thirty two million dollars. He played last year for two million dollars. You think there's an issue. When he walked in the locker room last year, did everybody's Ao? Oh, his look at his tail between is laying. Oh, but that's important. To do you had? To get paid, and they refused to pay them I'm just GonNa sit this, go ahead. Go ahead I'm just GONNA. Sit here because you. Didn't you know your stuff was weak? and You you took eight minutes and it was week. So now you want interrupt me. Go ahead the Mike now once you. Join US one hundred ain't. Nobody will audrey nobody look at him sideways rookie deal go talking about. They looked at him sideways because he made two million last year. No, this was his chance to get paid, and they refused to pay them. They didn't give them the deal that he wanted in. Talking about last year last year, they didn't pay him either. He was trying to get the deal last year. That's the point. They were trae was trying to get the deal last year game. Day Dale. They gave it to Zeke he'll. They could assigned last year. But they didn't, and it didn't bother him A. he went out through with nearly five thousand yards and thirty touchdowns. Nine minutes to make a case and it was wait. That's why you keep interrupting me because you know you're dribble. Did live up to what you use I give you credit when the music using comes on when you stand up and get out of your seat when you wear a special colors, you usually deliver Ramleh Pu King. But, this was wake wake. Wack in the words of. One. My goodness first of all J. Slater was on last night. She told us this isn't anything like Kirk. They never offered Kirk cousins a deal. They just kept giving him attack and that's it. He had no choice. They wanted that Prescott the next five years. Don't tell me they all believe any. They offer the deal. There would have made him Richard Anybody this side Mahomes. But they didn't want him. and You keep bringing up Carson with Vania. Wins the GONNA. Play again, and and and and Jerry Golfing I might. I can't believe you. Go back to Matt Stafford my goodness. What if any of them done? That maybe Dallas was looking at. was what if they. At the end of the day that Prescott getting thirty, two million and I liked it, but he ain't worth. I thought he would get twenty something million. When we really started talking about this last year, so he's don't get thirty two million next year Deli signing to a rich deal oil get thirty eight million. The Union. Says, he'll leave you. Did. The year after that you'll either if you re did the franchise tag next year thirty eight million. And if they if they don't give him a deal after that or they want to. I can't imagine eight franchise after that is worth fifty four. But the cowboys will pay up. Though the one thing you said that made any sense. WAS THAT JERRY? Jones is trip in. Because as you say, rob is gonNA cost them more.

"League just to be able to have the exclusive negotiating rights Sean. Payton has spoken glowingly of Dak. Prescott Bill Belichick. 'cause talked extensively at his press conference before the cowboys game about. About, what does well and why? He thinks he's so talented personnel departments like him front offices players all talk about how good he is. The very fact of the matter is you can say you don't like it or you don't think that you know you're happy with the bill. Because you just you know you feel like. He's GonNa regress because you don't think he looks the way he should. But that is not an argument. You can use a you know debate of facts because your eyes are not trained to make those sorts of decisions and the people who are trying to make those decisions are paid to make those sorts of decisions. "I think with the multitude of weapons combined with the ego of Jerry and Steven Jones who want to show that they made the right decision by drafting the CD lamb. All of those things are gonNA put Dak Prescott in a position to be that dark horse there. We're alluding to the League. It'd be honest. I'm rolling with Dak Prescott. That was Stephen a Smith joining the chorus of analysts, including yours truly who have hyped the Dallas cowboys this off season, but while America's team has been widely praised for its signings, draft picks Dallas has yet to sign. This is espn daily presented by marathon. I bill. They may not feel bill. Barnwell is a senior NFL writer for ESPN. So bill the Dak Prescott contracts story, which feels like it's been a story now forever is careening towards conclusion. Creating might be the wrong word inching towards the conclusion. You Open your column by calling it. The high stakes game of chicken in NFL history. Why is that? Well, you know, we could be looking at one of the largest contracts in NFL history for a player depending on how the Dak Prescott negotiations go in similar to the Tom Brady situation a few months ago. We haven't deadline. We have a day I. Know that for me. I am keeping my calendar open on July. Fifteenth right around four PM. Eastern I'm going to be sitting in my apartment waiting to hear about a Dak Prescott extension. Extension because with the cowboys we know they usually take these things to the last second before coming to terms on a deal with Ezekiel Elliott as a recent example finally, Ezekiel Elliott, and the cowboys reached an agreement on six year, ninety million dollar extension, and according to ESPN's at water. The deal has fifty million dollars guaranteed. How rare is it for this sort of game chicken to happen with a quarterback? I mean and almost never happens. Teams and quarterbacks almost always find common ground on a deal before they have to get to the franchise tag, which is why since two thousand eleven, there were two quarterbacks who have been hit the franchise tag drew brees of the New Orleans saints and Kirk cousins of Washington. WHO's their quarterback? Who might figure into these discussions a little more prominently as this goes on? Bill. Dak often compared to the other quarterbacks drafted at the same time. Assume Jared Goff Carson wentz especially once. Both of those qb's signed contract extensions after just three years in the NFL with very little drama. Why do you think those deals were negotiated more easily? Really. It's about time and the time away from Free Agency for these quarterbacks when they're signing these deals Carson. Winston Jared Goff both first round picks because of that they have five year contracts a four year base deal, and then a fifth year option. Really, these deals or bargains the matter how you cut it. Because, they're bargains. These quarterbacks are signing deals quicker with wince. When he signed his extension, which was a four year. One hundred and twenty eight million dollar deal on paper thirty two million dollars a year. With, Prescott because he was a fourth round pick. He got paid less during his rookie deal with crucially heated. Dan have a fifth year option available on his contract. So once they cowboy got to that third season instead of Prescott being two years away from free agency, which was the case with Winston Goth he was only one year away from free agency, and the cowboys did try to offer Prescott an extension, but seeing what was out there. He declined that offer and. Honestly it's the best thing for him financially to do so. So what you're saying is while Dak Prescott made significantly less than his peers because he was a fourth round pick. It's also given him more leverage. Yes typically. If you're a rookie coming out, you want the benefit first-round pick because it's guaranteed money and significant guaranteed money. Whence made about twenty eight million dollars over his rookie deal. Goth was in the same space. Prescott made closer to four hundred dollars, but. Getting free senior year quicker is a much more advantageous situation. If you're a guy who is as good as those first round picks and I. think that is the case here with back rescue? So, let's talk about his actual contract. There has been a lot of speculation about what he has asked for what the cowboys have counter offered. We don't know the exact figures are terms. What do we know about what both sides want? You I mean I, think the salary here is really what the issue is over. It's not a matter of how much he's GonNa make per year I think everyone kind of agrees somewhere in the thirty four to thirty six million dollar range. The issue was really more about length. For that Prescott he wants to get to that third contract the contract after this one as quickly as possible because we know that the NFL's TV deals are going to go up when they're negotiated in twenty, twenty, one and twenty, twenty, two and possibly twenty twenty three. Most likely pretty dramatically that will trickle down to the players that will trickle down to the salary cap. For the cowboy side of things, though historically there a team that wants to sign players too big money contracts, but for as long as possible, and of course in this case they wanNA keep Prescott away from free agency for as long as possible by handing him a five or six year deal. So as this all unfolded, there have been reports rumors about what Deck Prescott has actually been asking for big numbers that have spurred some backlash from fans, cowboys, fans, accusing him of you know demanding too much money saying he should take a discount. What do you make of that? I think people need to be realistic about how much of a bargain tack Prescott has been over the last four years where he's made three point six million dollars combined over his last four seasons in a league where your ally Manning's here, Philip rivers is your nick. Foles are getting north of twenty million dollars per years. Entirely possible at the cowboys have made about seventy five million dollars of surplus. For profit on Dak Prescott S- performance over the last four seasons, and the cowboys by the way are not a team that is known for giving out discounts to their players. This is an organization where you'll get every big contract. They've handed out over the past few years by the average annual salary. It's one of the biggest contracts in all of football. Football Ezekiel Elliott has the biggest multi year contract by average annual salary for a running back same thing for Tyron. Smith Zack Martin when they sign their deals. demarcus Lawrence Amari Cooper second largest average annual salaries on their deals so I. Don't buy the back should be.

"A hatter by trade fardon had joined the army in seventeen seventy five as a corporal but quickly became an officer and rose through the ranks. Barton was in the Rhode Island Army not the militia. He was stationed at Tiverton. Just across the psychotic channel from the British garrison at the northern tip of Aquidneck island like many Americans Barton was disheartened to learn about the British capture of General Charles Lee. In December seventeen seventy six Lee had before visited Rhode Island and was regarded as the best officer in the continental army over the next few months. Colonel Barton developed a plan to kidnap General Prescott in hopes of exchanging him for Major General Lee. In June seventeen. Seventy seven Barton received intelligence from a slave who had escaped from aquidneck island. That Prescott slept in the offering house each night a few days later. A British deserter confirmed the Information. Parton was familiar with the location of the overeating. Vring house having been stationed near. Before the British invasion Barton proposed a small squad of well. Boats would row across the bay at night. Grab Prescott and return with the prisoner before the British were alerted. It was an extremely high risk plan. The British maintain many patrols both on land and in the surrounding waters at night. If even one person spotted them and sounded an alarm they would almost certainly be killed or captured farting new. Secrecy was the key to his plan. He told his commanding officer a few other. Select leaders also were informed including the governor of Rhode Island but largely. The plan remained on a need to know basis. He asked five of his regimental officers to volunteer for what he described as a dangerous mission but would give no details. The officer is obtained the five necessary well boats for the mission. Shortly before the raid. He asked for forty volunteers from his regiment. Again saying it was for a dangerous mission but giving no details every man in the regiment stepped forward to volunteer so pardon had to select forty men who he knew to be fit and experienced rowers at least four were former aquidneck residents who would serve as guides since most of the early raids had taken place on the eastern side of Aquidneck island and because the over in house was closer to the western side. Barton opted to launches raid from the West on the night of July fourth as the Rhode Islanders distracted the British with an Independence Day. Celebration of Cannon Fire Barton's five. Well boats made their way to Bristol and then over to Hog island just northwest of Aquidneck. It was only then that he informed the officers and men of the details of his plan with too many British ships in Narragansett Bay Barton moved as well boats further west to Warwick on the night of July sixth instead of a short row across to Aquidneck the team would make a longer trip along the west coast of prudence island. This was a much longer route but would keep them more than a mile away from any British warships and would allow them to use the island as a screen for many British. Lookouts continued. Planning and poor weather left team waiting until July tenth. During that Time Barton. Track the patterns of the British patrol boats in the Bay farting gave his final instructions to his men. Strictly follow orders. Keep quiet at all times. Don't bring any liquor and refrain. From any looting the boats had to row ten miles in the dark farting put a pole with a white rag at the top so that the other boats could identify the lead boat the menus muffled oars and benefited from a cloudy night as they move through the water they could hear British patrols shouting all's well to each other across the bay by about eleven thirty PM. The boats landed at Aquidneck island. The team left five men one with each of the boats and then proceeded to make the one mile march to the offering house in about twenty minutes at the House. The unit divided into five groups as planned three of them would surround three sides of the house while a fourth commanded by Barton would enter through the front door. The fifth group acted as reserve in case needed anywhere as Barton approached the front door just before midnight. The century called out for him to identify himself. Barton eventually shouted out that they were friends. The century then ask for the countersign in other words the password to identify that they were really British soldiers. Barton still approaching said that they did not have it but asked if he had seen any deserters that night by that time. Barton's team was close enough to grab the centuries musket and threatened him with death if he made a sound next. The group found that the front door was locked. According to legend one of the soldiers and African American rush forward and bashed out the door with his head inside the team quickly found over and his son but could not locate general Prescott when Barton threaten to burn down the house. Voice called out. The soldiers rushed to the room fighting a man sitting on the bed. Still Groggy and in his nightclothes fardon asked if he was general. Prescott responded Yes sir. Barton said you are my prisoner and Prescott replied. I acknowledge it. Barton's aide. Lieutenant William Barrington. Heard the noise and attempted to slip out his bedroom window BARRINGTON had been taken prisoner with Barton back in seventy five and had no desire to repeat the experience. Unfortunately for Barrington. One of Barton's teams was waiting outside that window and took him prisoner anyway. The teams collected Prescott Barrington and the century they attempt to take over and his son as well but when the to put up a struggle they decided they were not worth the hassle and left the Tories behind. They were focused on getting Prescott back to the boats. Prescott and Barrington. Were still in their nightclothes and barefoot when Prescott complained that his feet were hurt while walking over the rough ground the team simply picked him up and carried him the entire time inside the House. A taken only about seven minutes. It was still about midnight when the team began. Its march back to the boats back at the over in house and undetected dragoon. Who had been sleeping at? The house dashed a quarter mile to the guardhouse to alert the guards but when challenged e thought the century who is challenging him was an American so he ran back to the over in house without giving the news. Shortly after a slave from the house did alert the guard. The guard then jumped on a horse and galloped two miles to the British camp at the north to raise alarm the British. I assume that the raiders had come from the east where most the earlier raids had originated. They searched along the east coast of Aquidneck island but found nothing. It wasn't until around two. Am that they considered that. The raiders may have escaped across Narragansett Bay to the West. They fired alarm rockets to alert the navy ships but the Navy officers did not know what the alarm was about by the time they launched a boat to go to Aquidneck island. Learn to the kidnapping and return to the ship. It was already four. Am and the raiders. Were already back in Warwick. The entire raid had taken about six and a half hours. General Prescott Kidnapping surprised everyone. Americans were delighted while the British were shocked. Colonel Barton became an instant hero. The Continental Congress sent him. Congratulations and promised him a ceremonial sword. One of three issued to officers outside the continental army during the war several months later. Congress also commissioned Barton as a full colonel in the Continental Army. Barton's team received a reward of one thousand one hundred and twenty dollars from the Rhode Island legislature. One thousand for the capture of the general a hundred for Lieutenant Barton and Twenty Four Century. Barrington was also the nephew of British. Secretary of war. Lord Barrington making him a particularly valuable prize. It turns out the British Century was not exactly the loyalist British subject. He attempted to desert the army several times prior and apparently took this opportunity to leave the British army and start a new life in America. He was locked up for a time and exchange for another prisoner. However during the exchange he simply disappeared and never showed up at the British camp. General Prescott Lieutenant Barrington were moved to Providence Prescott except his situation as a prisoner and signed up. Parole agreement knocked to try to escape later. The Americans moved into Lebanon Connecticut where it would be harder for the British to launch a raid to recapture him. At first the Americans plan to give him free rein of the town as they did other officers general Washington or the press copy locked up. This was in retaliation for the way the British kept generally locked up and refused to allow him free reign as a prisoner in New York. Almost immediately general Washington reached out to general how to discuss exchanging Prescott for Lee. But how was in no hurry if thought was a more valuable prisoner that it was not clear if the Americans would even honor the exchange and he was still unclear on whether London considerably a prisoner of war or a deserter. Fi December. Seventeen seventy seven. How received word from London that he could treat Lee as a prisoner of war. Lee was given parole to move about New York City. Prescott then receive the same privileges in Connecticut. It would still take nearly a year for the two sides to agree on an exchange of prisoners Prescott and Lee would both rejoin their respective armies. In the spring of Seventeen seventy eight in Newport Brigadier General Francis. Smith took command of the British army. There he immediately increased security to prevent further raids short time later. General House sent Major General Robert. Pto To become the fifth commander of this post in less than a year in London. Prescott became the butt of jokes. This was the second time he had been taken prisoner by. The Americans rumors circulated that he had been caught in bed with the farmer's daughter and carried away naked. This of course was not true but rumor. Sti- hard or significant was the charge that he had been negligent in taking quarters away from the army and was prone to attack. Prescott faced a court martial upon return to the army is fellow officers agreed that he was more unlucky. The negligent his choice of housing on a secure island between his two armed military camps was a reasonable decision one similar to made by commanders before and after him he was acquitted and returned to duty during his captivity. London promoted him to Major General before that he had only held the temporary rank of major general. In America. General League would also return to continental duty as well but that of course is a topic for a future episode. Next week we're going to return to upstate. New York where General Burgoyne must contend with the murder of Jane mccrea..

"Dak Prescott they Jack up one year and a long term deal way out in the new year and then become a free agent that point we'll have much more leverage in terms of the way when he worked on the last real free agent quarterback it's easy to get your feelings bruised through this process ATV for dad to reading as a vote of no confidence once you put the franchise tag on a guy you have to start preparing for the end of the relationship it's all going to end up with dak Prescott in a long term deal with the Dallas Cowboys we will soon see Dallas has plenty of work ahead not the least of which finding common ground on a multi year deal with dak Prescott which was discussed on get up because if you look at the trends in free agency this year actually we'll see a bunch of three year deals thank god was on our reached out to my former agent played by junior and ask them what's in may while these guys signed in three year deals and and if you look throughout the league in free agency the reason is is that you want to get all of their money this is the closest way to ensuring that you get a guaranteed contract fully and I'm pretty sure that's what dad can talk phrases agent is thinking if we can get a four year deal not only are we probably to see all of that money but we get back on the market and obviously that's the card you want to play especially being in that situation not so much of the uncertainty that there existed is now gone out of this right we know how many franchise tags there are he has one we know how much it's for we know what the salary cap is going to be they have ten years of labor peace in front of them dominate they need to get this thing done at some point soon right if not it's going to start to feel like they're legitimately is a problem yeah I mean it's felt like there is legitimately a problem for some time now but I think Jerry Jones is the master of media and we get sucked into all of his drama throughout the course of several years decades frankly that's part of the reason why the cowboys are as popular as they are because they continue to give us something to talk about I think dak wanting a shorter deal I think mark is right it's about getting as much guaranteed as you can and it's also about getting back to create Z. if the cap and there's the grow as the way it does now that seventeen percent over thirty five million what equate to will be up to nearly forty five million at that point so that money's going to keep going up and I hear and at that point well I have a huge leap under this new CDS are backed by to get that bread as many times as you can for more NFL news alliance come to terms with linebacker Reggie Ragland the Vikings re up with running back Ameer Abdul and Shelby hours the defensive lineman stays for the Broncos on a one year deal more NBA news ahead as one of our own and a handful of players who had called nineteen are now symptom free and we also take a look at something lebron James against playing games with no friends you're listening the sports center all night on ESPN radio if one NBA player can raises overall shooting percentage by two one thousandth of a point will join the ranks.

"On with that Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys and while there only six and four I think I cowboys fans would tell you every year they expect this team to be fifteen and one and win the Superbowl it's been a pretty incredible month for their free agent quarterback against the Detroit Lions on Sunday dak Prescott twenty nine of forty six four hundred and forty four yards passing and three touchdowns a lot of it has to do with the offense of line the protection he's getting but listen to these numbers over the last four games for Jack could you could you could change no not those numbers ten Dutch downs three interceptions thirteen hundred plus yards in the last four games and the cowboys have put themselves once again on top of the NFC east I think it starts up front they got some good pass rushers office of line did a great job give and I give me some time had some time to go through to go to the progressions once a couple times go through again finally open guy but I credit those receivers well be man coverage some that we know we're gonna have to do go to this game and they did that in other words he had time to bake a pumpkin pie or some pumpkin bread in the pockets that is what it offense of line is good for and the best offense of line allow their quarterback the time to make decisions but also allow the receivers the time to get down field and create separation with the defensive backs so the cowboys are up to six in bore after averaging and I know it was the Detroit Lions of the defense's ports like Swiss cheese averaging more than nine yards per pass attempt that's the only a first down at every time dak Prescott threw the ball so pretty incredible for the cowboys that being said it was still a fight against the Detroit Lions Jeff Driskell is gamer why is chapter school still out there will because Matthew Stafford has a back injury that typically requires six weeks to heal according to doctors they told the lions pro bowler that while it might not take him a month and a half which would almost be the rest of the regular season typically the fracture that he has in his bag does require about six weeks to fully heal so Driskell starts his second game he goes fifteen to twenty six two hundred nine yards a couple of touchdowns and we'll wait to see if Matthew Stafford returns to the field this season I wonder if being in the basement of the end of the north will have anything to do with that decision I remember Tony Romo playing with broken bones in his back a couple times for the Dallas Cowboys but if you don't need Matt Stafford to do that if you're not competing for a playoff spot maybe they don't take any type of risk with their QB it's after hours with any Lawrence here on CBS sports radio turning our attention into the two quarterbacks in the same game who were returning to action in week number eleven pretty exciting to see Nick Foles on the field for the Jacksonville Jaguars at least I was excited against the cold and your Kobe percent of course returning from a game away with the need pay because the cold earned this winter we will start with your Kobe man alive the ball control offense that the cold employ it's similar to what the Baltimore Ravens wanted you actually but when they do it well it's almost impossible to stop and even harder to rest to the ball away from then in that double roan head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars at this we tried everything and could not stop the ride that of course helps the quarterback right when you have that kind of balance with your offense two hundred sixty four yards marlin back over a hundred yards as well as Jonathan Williams was also over a hundred yards rushing unfortunately Marlon Mack broke his hand in this game but you go be burset could be a game manager with the type of production they got on the ground.

"But he got better and you talk about what they did in his rookie season. We'll hell they broke the Cowboys franchise record are they are they matched the Cowboys franchise record for thirteen wins. I think you say that, that happens without Dak Prescott. I don't know if that happens with Tony Romo on the team, the entire time who knows what happened because there's a lot of luck that goes into football and people kind of knew what Romo was, and, you know, for at least half of twenty sixteen people going who is this guy, what is he doing? How is he getting such a high completion rate? And what did he do? He just what Dak did is he tried to fit in to an often? He he kind of knew how to run. And he said, okay, I'm just going to I'm just going to try not to make mistakes. Yeah. And he tried to do his rookie season. He did a good job of not making. Stakes which was kind of exactly what Scotland a hand wanted. The trouble is Scott Lenihan kind of always stayed the same. And now Dak Prescott, I think has grown beyond that. So something had to change. Yeah. Well, I ask you another question sidebar Dak Prescott what do you think of our good buddy OCC's posts that deck Prescott pretty much owns the NFC east? He doesn't. No, I mean, it's just it's just kind of funny. It's like that we sit here and we listened to Twitter arguments all day, long and see all these other social media arguments about other quarterbacks in the NFC east. But if you look at it Dak Prescott is destroying the NFC east every time he plays he's winning. He's in most cities NFL cities if they had Dak Prescott as a quarterback, they would be pumping him up and talking about how great is, you know what I thought about Dak in that situation like most cities, you know what a good like city, the Dak Prescott would fit in well, with is Pittsburgh, Lord, yet they would they would love him. First off, he's got that hard nose style. I'm going to get the first down that they would love, but you talking about third and fifteen in Seattle, that would have just like if that was the Pittsburgh Steelers and he did that for them. I mean he would be they would have a statue of him. I have a statue, but they. Have a mural up already? Yeah. Exactly. And not the murals that we kinda see about Dak Prescott Dallas less right? Ridiculousness. Yeah. So that was my, what if it was, it was something that, that should never have happened as a as I mentioned. And at the end of the article, if somebody had propose this as fiction, everybody would say, like nobody will believe that is too ridiculous. Yeah, but you go back and you think about, it's like Tony Romo was the big. What if to what if Tony Romo, what of Quincy Carter had never gotten cut, you know, Tony was on his way out. So, and then you and you talk about how interesting that was that Tony Romo ends up. He's on his way out to being a guy that they have to keep because they have to get through the preseason similar to that Prescott Dagmara Scott was rookie that they were trying to bring along. And they didn't have any opportunities after that. They didn't have any chances to say, let's, let's put this guy on the bench. Let's put it behind Tony Romo. Let's put it behind Kellen Moore. Let's see what he can do. They. They had to play him because they didn't have anyone else..

"But. Go ahead. Yeah. I mean, I it's just sort of that situation. I mean, I don't I think what the terms of purely the ability to play the quarterback position. I Dag Prescott is far beyond where Blake Bortles wasn't as a quarterback. I think he burns a lot more to the table. I think he's much closer to become in the complete well rounded quarterback of areas that he needs to improve upon where seeing development in those areas, and I think money Cooper strangely enough. Interestingly enough was a huge part of that. I say Dak down the stretch was a much better quarterback than Dak at the beginning of the season last year. And so I think that you know, the I put the ball out there. More in the sense of the situation not one to one airs. But I understand look anytime you bring up like photos when you're talking to a fan of a team and talking about their quarterback. And you mentioned Blake Bortles their face turns in Erie, shade of green, usually because nobody. Wants to see their quarterback discuss to the same sentence as Blake Bortles or less. Lakewood was lost. Again, this time to player X. You know? No, it turns the shade of the old Jaguars homeless like the the mustard. Yeah. Yeah. But no, it feels like that just because you know, he's on a team with theoretically, great runner, although Leonard fournette is certainly not lived up to to those standards and integrate defense. And so he's kind of the bus driver there. I get it. So then let's put your old hat on Mark defend deck. What are his strengths then because people people act like he's worthless. Like, he's got nothing going on. They only want to criticize wanna compare Tony Romo and not just Tony Romo by two thousand fourteen Tony Romo which was him at his peak. What are dexterous what are his his reasons from an athletic from from a talent perspective that are worthy of paying? I think what you look at Dak Prescott..

"You'll finally see Dak unleashed as the runner. He can be because the playmaker on this team is not easy cularly the playmaker. Both throwing it and running. It is actually the quarterback because the quarterback will take over games with his legs. He closed the deal against Seattle because they were in a dark place. It was third and fourteen and they're only up three points to thirty three left in the Seattle playoff game at Gerry world. And I don't know if we have that handy, but I would love. To see this run again because they called the basic quarterback draw. And finally Lynn good vault. Add up up up up. No, you missed you. Missed you missed and look at that. You wanna talk about athletic this man weighs two hundred and forty five pounds and that was a bad play defensively. How do you let a guy rushed for that many yards? It was in that situation. I see that play my dream sometimes because I want to see more of that play in. You know, what skip says that you know, what I see in my dreams today on Instagram you went and you through your Dak Prescott jersey in the garbage and my hat and the arm and your and your deck Prescott jersey. They told me all I need to know. And what was it one hundred million dollars in the garbage Cantu? But what you do more like on Instagram was win two weeks later. I went and retrieved it out of the garbage. And then there was another point where I did another video where I actually ran into the kitchen, and I was ready to throw it in the garbage. But I heard oh, it's the Philly game. And I heard always doing that. I'm going to run back because I am a crazed fan. I'm completely psycho. My wife will you know, honesty. Now, she will be the first tell you. I'm outta my mind while they are playing I'm knee-jerk over emotional over reactionary. But when I step back and cool down and look at the big picture of Dak Prescott. I am completely sold on that Prescott. Because all he did from that the that team hit bottom that Monday night. I didn't see it coming Tennessee visited Jerry world. And it was the all-time Alice cowboy disaster the all time one of the all-time Cowboys glare. Glare. Mario Marcus mariota. Went eleven of fourteen on third down that night number Aikman. After that said this whole thing these to be blown up. Yeah. He that. He did. He said, it was I think basically dysfunctional, and yet I think a lot of people were saying it was dysfunctional at that point, including me. And yet Dak Prescott pulled it all back together. And remember Amari had just arrived that week before that night, and they went to Philly the next week, rob. And what happened that Prescott took over that game? Dak Prescott led them to yet. Another division tile. So he's won two of three years. He's won the division title. That's pretty good. When you say and all he did against Aaron Rodgers was throw for three hundred yards in that playoff game and three touchdowns. Did they know? But that was because of Mason crossbar who. Now, you blame him for losing the games this year and I credit him with pulling that game out with a fifty six yard field goal. And a fifty one yard field goal. Neither of which seem to have any shot at going over the crossbar, but they both did. And I don't know how they did. But the point is that Dak Prescott has played Aaron Rodgers three times. Go look up the numbers s Steve Owens in the break. Go look up these numbers because I can look at look at what he did Aaron Rodgers all three times out played him head to head. He outplayed the best thrower of the football ever. Just check it out. I'm sold. He's earned his money. I will be very content. I will never again throw away. My Dak Prescott jersey. At least he admits though, rob that he's a little bit crazy when he comes on. See also, you know. Tom Brady because on the outside. And rob you keep reminding us that people don't buy it. But we keep hearing how much Brady is loved on the inside. And now, here's an example from offense lineman Trent Brown who just finished his first season with Brady and he gave his quarterback high praise..

It was Dax fall, but he deserves a lot of the blame betas because again, he missed some throws that throw to the tight end could have been a difference in the hall. Gates still be running. If you just chose to run, he might still be Ryan. He might run all the way to Miami. But anyway, there was a third down play. The guy runs around. He sits down, dang, throws the ball men beat behind the thing, and they had early in the year. We talked about number one receivers Dax, say, this is what that Prescott said. It may. I don't know of any team in the league necessarily the number one receiver, it's all about getting the ball out, spreading the ball around and keeping defense on the toes. Let me tell you why you can't keep defense on your toes because they don't respect you. They respect veep Kellyanne. Okay. The only playmaker that you have team said, we're gonna take the one plate maker. You have a way we're gonna see what you're gonna do with these other guys that probably should be selling cars or coaching. And now what we've been able to see skills, eight. Let's that we haven't been able to see that Prescott on. It consisted base do what he needs to do, which is moved about up and down to throwing it. Now we know when to run the ball now what he's capable of doing. But when they take that away, do you have. My turn. Thank you very much. Yeah..

"This is not that Mike, and I said this last week, I said, does the NCAA get involved in this question so far? I've heard nothing, nothing them. And so I don't think they're going to stick their nose in this thing. Whereas clearly someone with a history of NCA trouble coming to a school which has to still live onto those rules is different than a guy who's biggest sin may be that he lied in a press conference and and I and I do think that the urban Meyer would find employment rather quickly if hostage somehow let him it's, it's there's one other thing to say here and you live, you live in a big ten world, and we're football is absolutely as important in Michigan as it is. Ohio, and this may be in Bob's right? This may be another thing that saves this guy to paraphrase the old line about the Boston Red Sox and Columbus, Ohio football is not a matter of life and death. It's way more serious than that. I one more topic I'd like to bring up before. We screwed onto our parting shots. Another hot button issue for a long time. Now, in sports, anthem protests were heading into the NFL season. We're wondering what what the policies are aren't going to be. Jerry Jones has made it very clear that if you're going to play for the Dallas Cowboys, you're gonna stand for that anthem and I don't believe he means standing for it in the locker room or hiding in the locker room. I think he means right out there on the sideline standing. And while that in and of itself, garnered a lot of reaction his quarterback that Prescott garnered even more when he came out and said, and I'm quoting here now read it to you. I never protester in the anthem and I don't think that's the time or the venue to do. So the game of football has always brought me such peace and I think it does the same for a lot of people. A lot of people playing the game. A lot of people watching. The game, a lot of people that have any impact of the game. So when you bring such a controversy to the stadium to the field to the game, it takes away. It takes away from that. It takes away from the joy and the love that football brings to a lot of people. So for me, I'm all about making a change making a difference. And I think this whole kneeling and all that was just about was was all about raising awareness. The fact that we're still talking about social injustice years later, and I think we've got to that point. I think we've proved and we know that their social injustice. So I'm up for taking a next step that whatever that step may be for action and not just kneeling. I've always believed in standing up for what I believe in, and that's what I'm going to continue to do for that statement. He has been vilified across the sports world across the social media world in many cases as a sell out, he was depicted on a mural in Dallas as the as a character from the film, get out with the gasping terrified. Look tears falling from his is the artists said. Yeah, you know, you look like the character and there was terrified. I don't know what do we make of the reaction to Dak Prescott sort of the other way here. Here's a rare high profile. African American athlete who was is saying, I'm not kneeling. I don't think it's appropriate. To protest during the end. He if he thinks they're, they're now Mitch, he's nuts. Okay. And I will defend every his right to say every word of what he said. I will defend his right to feel the way he feels. I don't think he should be demonized for feeling the way he does. I just think he's wrong. I think it is cockeyed narrative to say, oh, that's not the proper place. Descent is we've, we've gone over this a lot. Descent is as American as the flag that we're talking about here. And the song that is played before games. Descent is profoundly patriotic. It's pro finally American, and I would respectfully say to young Mr..
