A highlight from Part 1: USAs World Cup Collapse, Basebrawls, Jets Optimism, Life in The G-League and The OC 20 Years Later | with Gabe York and Zoe Simmons

"Coming up, an unexpected two -part podcast cameo from me. It's next. We're also brought to you by the Ringer Podcast Network, where we turned over Sean Fennesey and Amanda Dobbins' big picture feed to Brian Raftery. It's a narrative podcast called, Do We Get to Win This Time? How Hollywood Made the Vietnam War. You can find it on the big picture starting on Tuesday. And it is an idea I'm really excited about because it came from a class that I did as a senior in college in 1992. Me and my friend Horgs talked a movies professor into doing a special Vietnam War movies class where we watched basically every Vietnam War movie that had been made up to 1992 and then tried to write a big picture term paper about it. And the thing that was really fascinating about that class and something that stuck with me was just that whole concept of Hollywood reinventing the entire Vietnam experience under the premise of, Did We Get to Win This Time? So we got Brian involved and he turned the idea into an awesome, awesome podcast. I even went and dug up the term paper that I wrote 31 years ago. I thought it was gonna be horrendous. It wasn't bad. I was kind of proud of myself, retroactively 31 years later. Anyway, Do We Get to Win This Time? How Hollywood Made the Vietnam War. It is gonna be in the big picture podcast starting on Tuesday. So that's one piece of business. Second, new rewatchables on Monday night. It is the 300th movie that we've done. It's a special one. We're doing National Lampoon's Vacation. It was time. Meet Chris Ryan, Van Lathan. Yeah, and Van was pushing for it because we wanted to do Christmas Vacation during the holidays and you can't do Christmas Vacation. If we do National Lampoon's Vacation, super fun. Can't wait for you to listen to it. And we'll be running the video at some point on the YouTube channel, youtube .com slash Bill Simmons, where we put up a whole bunch of rewatchables podcasts in case you missed it. Boogie Nights is up there now. Goodfellas, Independence Day, just a slew of them. So if you're bored and you wanna throw on some rewatchables and watch us make fun of each other, there you go. Last but not least, I don't wanna say this is the most important, but it's certainly the thing I spent the most time on. Our documentary that we did about the G League with Religion of Sports and Ringer Films, we combined, and it is premiering on Tuesday, August 8th. It is called Destination NBA, A G League Odyssey. It's really good. We immersed ourselves into the G League season. We followed Scoot Henderson, Gabe York, Ryan Terrell, Mason Jones, and Denzel Valentine. And the big question was, what is this world like? What's it like to be in the G League? And I am really proud of where we landed with it. And we even have, much later in this podcast, Gabe York is gonna come on. He's one of the five that we followed, and he's gonna tell us what it's like as you're holding on to your dream in your late 20s. We try not to spoil the doc too much with Gabe, but I really liked him. He's probably the guy that jumps out of the doc in the most sympathetic way. So look forward for you to watch it. It is prime video, Tuesday, August 8th, Destination NBA. A G League Odyssey. You love basketball, just watch it, it's good. So there you go. This is gonna be part one of a two -part podcast. Gabe is coming up later. My daughter Zoe Simmons is coming up later because we did a whole bunch of OC stuff on the Prestige TV podcast. I was even on two of the episodes. But I ended up watching season one of the OC. And my daughter was watching with us and loved the show. And she was born a year and a half after it premiered. So me and her broke down season one from the perspective of what is it like when somebody 18 watches the OC, a show that is now two decades old. The anniversary was actually August 6th. And what she liked, what she didn't like, what people aren't doing anymore for her kind of audience. And we just dove into it. So that is much later. First, coming out of the gate, I'm gonna open a six -pack because we have a lot to discuss over the past three weeks, all the stuff I missed. So that's gonna be part one. And then part two, which is gonna go up later on Sunday night, me and Rossello doing this evergreen idea that we've always wanted to do. And this seemed like the perfect time because nothing's happening in basketball. So that's gonna be part two later tonight. Part one coming up. First, our friends from ProJax. What's up? All right, I'm taping this. It is Sunday afternoon Pacific time. And I'm gonna open a six -pack. There's a bunch of stories in sports and culture that happened over the last three weeks. I was just writing stuff down, things that would have been fun for podcast segments. I was just like, man, I wish I could have given my thoughts on that. Just gonna rip through them. So I have six and then maybe a couple bonus ones at the end. The first one, the biggest one, was the US women's soccer team, which lost today in penalty kicks to Sweden, scored zero goals in the last two games, scored one goal in the last three games, and that was off a corner kick. You could feel from the beginning that something was off with this team. It was all the ways. You knew in a checklist of what are the red flags? There were just red flags galore. And the only person who was really calling it out in time over and over again was Carli Lloyd, who was doing the Fox studio show. And she was the one person in the horror movie who knows the house is haunted. And everyone's like, shut up. You're not being patriotic. You just wish you were still on the team. She was right. She was right from the get -go. This team, you could see it before the Vietnam game when it was like, look at the new Nike suits. Look at these new suits. And they're all like styling as they head into the locker room. And they're running commercials. And every player has a commercial. There's players who've never done anything of that commercials. And the vibe was just off. They only beat Vietnam three -nothing in a bracket where goal differential was gonna be super -duper important. And that was a huge red flag. And we did the usual thing that we've been doing since 2019, 2015 of, oh, well, they almost scored a bunch of times. Oh, well, if that had gone in or some bad luck. There was just an arrogance to this team. Like they were carrying themselves like the defending champs, the same way like the Denver Nuggets would go into next NBA season. Like we're the champs. I was like, yeah, you are the champs because the season just happened. The World Cup happened four years ago. Everyone's four years older or wasn't on the team. And you could see they wanted to build the team instead of around the identity of, here are these new up and coming awesome stars that are gonna be in your life. They were really latching on to Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe. Alex Morgan's 34, Megan Rapinoe's 37. I think one of the differences between the discourse with women's sports and men's sports is that in men's sports, we grasp for angles. And if somebody is disappointing in some way, we really go nuts. Like think of how James Harden's been treated over the last 12 years. So he's one of the 35 best players ever and has taken just an incredible amount of shit. Oh my God, the playoffs, look at his game log. Oh, he choked again. Alex Morgan, who scored twice in her first two games in the World Cup in 2011, she scored once in 2015 in seven games. She scored six times in 2019, five against Thailand in a game that was 13 to nothing, one in the other six, and then scored nothing in the four games this time around. If you take away that Thailand game, she has scored two goals in the last 17 World Cup games. This is the striker. This is the one who's supposed to be the most dangerous player in the field, who's supposed to produce goals. And she hasn't produced goals since the mid 2010s on the national level. And yet it's Alex Morgan. She was supposed to be the next one. We got to keep propping her up and pretending she's a superstar. She's not a superstar. She's really honestly never been a superstar. She certainly hasn't been as impactful as somebody like Abby Wambach was. So you have the team built around her. She's got to play. They play her the entire game, game two, the entire game, game three. She plays like 95 minutes in this game today, and they don't score goals. And the announcers just won't talk about it. It's like being on an AYSO team that your kid's on, and the coach is playing somebody at striker, and everyone's like, why don't they play Sally at striker instead of the coach's daughter? It's like, oh, you know, the coach's daughter. She's got to play there. So you have that, and then you have Rapinoe, who's 37 years old, who's just, unfortunately, great career, legendary, true legend, huge big time player. And when you hit your late 30s in soccer, it's a wrap. She looked like Yudana Rapinoe, not big Rapinoe, and comes out for the last 25 minutes of this game and can't do anything, and then misses the penalty kick. That's the thing. If you're beholden to past performance, you can't expect to succeed in the moment. And I did feel like, what were this team's strengths? Speed. They had Sophia Smith, who really was bad the last three games on the left wing. Like, she just, she couldn't even connect passes. Trinity Rodman, who's a beast. Lynn Williams, who's super fast and athletic and had some really nice moments the last two games. And then Alyssa Thompson, who's the prodigy, who's the, you know, potential tiger or LeBron of this team. 18 years old, best high school player I've ever had. They won't even throw her out there. But this was not a team that could connect passes. They weren't, like, especially creative. The coaching was just bizarre, and we'll never see that guy again. But it was like, the one thing they did have was speed, especially the forwards, and they just threw that away. And Alex, you know, couldn't do anything. So now they're out. It's the most disappointing finish of the last 25 years for the women's team. And it reminds me in a lot of ways that 2004 Olympic basketball team that we had, the USA team. And I tweeted this, I think after the second game, because that was a team that was between eras, like this one was, where all the best players on that 2014, the ones in their primes, weren't that good, except for Duncan. And Duncan was completely banged up. He'd played so many NBA games the last couple of years. I think his knee was hurt. But, you know, it was Iverson and Marbury. The talent, it just was a between eras. And you had guys on the bench, like LeBron and Carmelo and Wade, who were four years away. Kobe wasn't on the team. And it just felt generationally, like we caught that team in the wrong time. The style was wrong. And we learned all these lessons and we moved on. 2008, we win. There's a documentary about it. But this team felt like it was between eras. The Alex Morgan, Rapinoe era, which was basically done. And then you have this era coming up with Rodman and Sophia Smith and Alyssa. And, you know, it's just four years from now, we'll probably be fine. But they need to re -imagine this. And I think if you're gonna learn any lesson from this, it doesn't matter what happened four years ago. It's the World Cup. It matters what's happening now. So that's one thing. Second thing. So Jaylen Brown gets this huge contract, $304 million. Some people seem surprised that it was that much money. Chris Ryan even took a shot at it when we did our library watchables. Hurt my feelings a tiny bit. Mainly because I didn't really have a comeback. Rosella did something on his podcast about how this actually makes sense. This amount of money, when you think of how the salary cap has climbed just since 2015, and it's gonna keep climbing. And there's this world you can go into where you think about just how much everything is gonna cost in the NBA four or five years from now, that Jaylen Brown at $70 million isn't actually gonna be that intimidating. The same way we feel about Tobias Harris for $40 million now, or Klay Thompson, $40 million now. Yeah, you don't really wanna pay $40 million for Klay Thompson, but you can survive it. And I think that's gonna be where the Celtics land with Jaylen. Here's why they had to do it. They're the favorites on FanDuel right now. They're plus 470. The thing that made them the most special and has made them the most special for the last five, six years is the Jaylen Brown -Jason Tatum combo. They've been incredibly successful. The team itself has made five conference finals in the last seven years. They came super close to making the finals last year. I have now gone into the what if zone with that Celtics team where what if Tatum doesn't hurt his ankle on the first play? Do we beat Miami? They were close is the point. And when you're that close, you can't fuck around. This is not Bradley Beal resigning with Washington for 50 million a year when everybody knows you can't get past the eight seed with Bradley Beal. This is different. You're trying to win a title. You're trying to keep all your optionality open. The thing that's a little scary about it, nobody seems to totally know if he wants to be in Boston. This is something we've discussed on this pod. It's been floating out there. The fact that he wasn't happy about landing in the Kevin Durant trade rumors a couple years ago. And just in general, where the league is now, where as Woj called it, the transfer portal, where people get their contract first and then they decide what they want to do. And I think for the Celtics, they know they bought themselves a year with Jalen and they are still one of the favorites to win the title. And a lot of it's going to depend on health and Porzingis. You could also, I don't want to make the case, but you might be able to make the case that Brown had a fucked up hand last year. Cause he did. Cause he sliced his hand open. It was bleeding even during the Philly series. And maybe that was why his ball handling went sideways. Listen, you got to do the contract. It just breaks your brain. I remember a million years ago, Sports Illustrated and Inside Sports say every year they would have like a salary issue. And they would talk about these guys are making $1 million a year. And it seemed like so much money. And now where we're heading with the money, plus the NBA is the meteorites deal. The moment any of these guys becomes unhappy, what do you do? Because you're paying Jalen, let's say you're paying him 55 million a year. Plus he is the trade kicker, which the team has to pay. Right? So if he decides after a year, you know what? I'm tired of being the scapegoat. Everybody loves Jason. I'm like the middle brother of this team. I want my own team. I want to go to Houston or Atlanta. You got to trade me. What are the Celtics going to do? On top of who would want out, you don't have a lot of options and you turn into what the situation Portland's in with Deem. And then on top of it, it's so much money. It's impossible to get any sort of a fair trade for the guy. So they had to do it. And optionality the that comes out of it is frightening. I remember in the early 2000s, when the first time the contracts kind of went nuts and you would see that people get signing like six -year, $100 million deals, seven -year, $110 million deals. And the Celtics really, really stupidly traded for Vin Baker. One of the worst trades of the last 30 years for Boston Sports. A trade so bad, you knew it instantaneously. And I wrote a piece that you can probably find somewhere in the ESPN archives about it, where I compared it to the end of Thelma Louise when Harvey Keitel is running toward the cliff trying to stop the car from going off the cliff. That's how I thought about the Vin Baker trade when it happened. Then it happens and you just had this salary albatross. It's a salary cap league. And you're like, wow, we just threw away 20 % of our salary cap on this trade. There's going to be a couple of those that are just franchise killers. And whether that leads to them bringing back the amnesty clause, who knows? I wish, I've made this, I've had this idea before. I wish that they had a rule in there that if you drafted a guy, every year that he stays in the team, you get rewarded in some way from a salary cap luxury tax type thing, right? So Jaylen was 2016 draft, this would be his eighth year. Maybe like after the seventh year, because that's usually like the third contract. The guy stays in the team, maybe each year after that, he doesn't count for 2 % of the luxury tax, up to like 30%, something like that. The point is the Warriors should be rewarded for keeping Draymond and Klay and Curry from a tax standpoint, that they were that smart to draft those guys, keep those guys together. They should be incentivized, the players, to want to stay with them because there's some luxury tax stuff that the team gets. And the team should want to be incentivized to take care of those guys because it's also beneficial to them. I just wish they figured out some version of that rule. Anyway, Jaylen was always signing for $304 million. Talk to me in a year, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Next thing, I missed the running back pity party. This was crazy. The running backs all got together and they were really upset about how much money they made. And I don't know what to tell you. There's too many running backs and not enough running back spots. And I don't know if you're trying to build a responsible salary cap team in a collectively bargained era, why would you spend $30 million over two years on a running back unless the running back was awesome? Nobody even wants to spend more than $11 million on running back. So I knew that this was crazy when Damien Harris, who was on the Patriots, who I thought was really good. He's maybe not an elite running back, but a good running back, right? Somebody that if he had been on the Chiefs, he easily could have started for the Chiefs. And he signed with the Bills for like one year, 2 million. And when that happened, combined with Pacheco on the Chiefs' seventh round pick, they won the Super Bowl with him. It's just, this position's devalued. I work on this player, I've been actually working on it the last couple of weeks where I try to rank the players for blue chippers, red chippers, pink chippers, honorable mention, and have this whole point system. And so quarterbacks, Mahomes, who's the alpha of that position, he's worth 10 points. And you could even see this in the point spread. If Mahomes gets hurt, the Chiefs are 10 points, nine points, whatever, less than what they would be as a favorite. They'd switch to an underdog. And you go on down the line. Jalen Hurts, I had him as an eight. I had Joe Burrow as a nine. And you go on, you keep going down, and it's like, Geno Smith's probably a two. But then you look at some of the other positions and you have to value them the same way the salary cap values them and teams value them. Guards, they aren't worth that much. Running backs, sorry, they're not worth that much. My top running back was three points because ultimately running backs don't really matter that much. In the last like five, six years, I would say Derrick Henry was the only running back that you could definitively say, this guy almost won the Super Bowl. Like he was that good. Other than that, you know, it's plug and play, quarterbacks, it's receivers. It's much harder to find the number one receiver. Every team needs one. It's much more tangible if you don't have the number one receiver. And it's much easier to just kind of scrap together the running back position. And yet people went nuts about this. We ironically had this in the NBA with centers. You know, Vucevic, who's a really good offensive player, he signed for 60 million for three years, 20 million a year. And Jaylen Brown's going to make $52 million a year. Is Jaylen Brown two and a half times better than Vucevic? No, it's just, he plays a way more important position. You can only play one center at a time. You can patch together the center position. You could have like Isaiah Hartenstein for $8 million. You could, you know, get Robert Williams for 16. You don't need to spend what Phoenix did on Eaton where they're paying $8 and $30 million a year at center. And you don't really need to do that. You kind of feel obligated if you don't want to lose the asset. But I think the NBA is going to go this way eventually where unless it is Jokic or Embiid, the center or Bam Adebayo, it's a bonus. You could argue that was already an overpay. They gave him a huge extension. The Lakers just gave Anthony Davis $60 million a year as an extension. I would argue that's a little frightening. I feel like you could patch together the center position. What really matters in basketball is having the creator. And this was the argument five years ago with Luka versus Eaton for the number one pick. And I made this argument. It was like, go look at who wins the NBA title every year. It's always the people who have the creator. There's somebody who's on the perimeter of the ball in their hands. Even Jokic, who wins the title this year, he was a creator. He's not a typical center, right? He's basically their point guard on offense who could post up. So this happened in the NBA. Nobody went nuts. And this is happening in football. And is this where football is. If you want to make the most amount of money playing in the NFL, I don't know why you would be a running back. I would be a cornerback. I would be a wide receiver. I'd be an edge rusher. But if you're a running back, you know your shelf life's probably like five, six years. You know the money is not totally gonna be there. Now they're in this, like you have people like JK Dobbins, like, I might hold out. It's like, really? You didn't barely even play in the field. Barkley said he was gonna hold out. And then, you know, probably looked at it. And the money for Barkley is like 10, 11 million. That's unfortunately the market. So you can't fix this. They collectively bargained it. And until we get to the next CBA, I don't know how you fix it. I thought it was really weird. It felt like people had nothing to talk about. And it was like, ah, let's feel bad for running backs. All right, let's take a break. And then I'm gonna finish the rest of the six pack. All right, picking up on the six pack. We're gonna talk a little more football. I talked about the running back pity party. This is a different kind of party. The Jets optimism, which has just been stunning to me over the course of July. I have Jets fans in my life. These are people that usually have no hope and are very reminiscent of the pre -2004 Red Sox fans, just assuming the worst at all times. Why does God hate us? All that stuff. And now they have this crazy optimism based on the fact that they brought in Aaron Rodgers, who I did not think was very good last year, just throwing that out there. I wouldn't say he was bad, but for Rodgers, he was bad. I mean, we thought Rodgers was, he was the reigning MVP and we thought he was still one of the five or six most impactful players in the league. And I don't wanna read stats to you for the next six minutes, but deep balls, he was bad. Turnovers, he was bad. Leadership, he was bad. And the case for Rodgers coming back would be, well, he's gonna be rejuvenated. The Jets, New York City. This is his team. He got away from Green Bay. He's got Hackett back. I get it, but he's also at an age where we've really only seen Tom Brady succeed at a high, high level at the age that Rodgers is at. I was trying to figure it out. I have my QB ratings and I had, you know, the top tier is Mahomes and Burrow and Allen and Herbert and Hertz. Those have to be the top five. Then it drops off and it's Lamar Jackson and Lawrence. And then Rodgers, probably a hair underneath him with a chance to play himself up with those guys. But from what we saw last year, I'm not ready to put him there. So he's the 10th best quarterback in the league, probably. 10th or ninth best quarterback in the league, probably. Well, they have no offensive line. And I don't understand why people keep glossing over this where it's like, hey, Rodgers and Garrett Wilson, he's one of the best receivers in the league and Breece Hall's going to come back and the defense is really good. And it's like, yeah, the offensive line is terrible. Beckton and Dwayne Brown, sure tackles again. And then you have Robert Salah as the coach, who I cannot say I thought that Jets were crisply coached last year. Whatever he was doing with Zach Wilson was insane. No idea if that guy's even a decent coach. So I'm already worried about your offensive line, the age of your quarterback, and the competency of your coach. And that's before we get into the hard knocks curse, because for some reason they're doing hard knocks, the incredible Super Bowl hype already. And then we have the schedule, which is the AFC East has just got screwed by the schedules this year. The Jets, just for quarterbacks in 17 games, they got to play Josh Allen twice, they got to play Mahomes, Herbert, Hertz, Dak Prescott, and Deshaun Watson. And then they also have to play Miami twice. We'll see what we get out of two this year. And then a really good Pats defense. And then Denver, who knows, they might be rejuvenated. So Danny Dimes, they have to play him. It is a brutal schedule, so you have that. And then on top of everything else, you're the Jets. I was there with the Red Sox before 2004, and this is probably just as bad, where you just think the worst possible things can happen is all the time. You're not allowed to have optimism when you're Jets fans. You can be cautiously optimistic. There was an entire Curb Your Enthusiasm episode once, season 10, episode seven, about being a Jets fan. And it was called, I think, the ugly section. Nick Kroll was the maitre d'. And part of the episode was about, he would put these people in different sections of the restaurant, depending on how attractive they were. But there was this other plot, Larry's buddy who loved the Jets, kills himself. And Larry becomes convinced it was because of the Jets, that the Jets killed his friend. This was only a couple of years ago. So now they get Aaron Rodgers, and everything's good. And they're gonna win the Super Bowl. I don't see it, guys. I don't wanna step on my football stuff too much, but I'd be shocked. And Lombardi points out the defense that everybody's ready to compare to the 85 Bears. Lombardi said they had two turnovers over the last eight games last season. So that means something too. I am dubious, to say the least. If you're gonna tell me a tortured franchise actually turns it around this year, I want a tortured franchise that doesn't have expectations. Because the Lions are another one. Everybody's ready to put them in the Super Bowl or close. And the only case for them is just pretty explosive offense. They couldn't stop anybody last year. And the NFC is terrible. But that's another one where is that a fan base that should be super excited and have a ton of hype? The one that's kind of lurking that fits in this group is the Browns. Because the Browns are actually super talented. They're in a winnable division. Burroughs already hurt. And I think they're four to one to win the AFC North on FanDuel, something like that. Their over -under is, I think it climbed up.

"prescott" Discussed on The Charlie Kirk Show

"Great to be here. Lots we can talk about. We are going to do some questions tonight which is actually my favorite and the most important. I first want to relay my gratitude for all of you that support us at turning point USA. I am a little biased but I believe that the work that turning point is doing is the most important work in the country. If we do not pass down our values on high school or college campuses the country is over with. We are going to talk about election integrity. We are going to talk about elections. We are going to talk about a lot of things but the long term game is what the Marxists have been doing against us for quite some time. We have to pass down our values to the next generation. It is not happening at all. In fact the opposite is happening. They are teaching young people at the flag as colonialist, racist, misogynistic, bigoted and turning point USA believes we are the greatest nation ever to exist in the history of the world. We believe in the promise of the declaration and the constitution and we are not afraid to go against the left. There is a lot of timidity sometimes in the conservative movement. We go to the places where we are not always welcome but you know what is amazing? We finished our campus tour and we do so much at turning point USA and it is a movement bigger than anything I could have ever imagined. The biggest problem that we had this last semester whether it be bringing Riley Gaines who is amazing on campus or Candace Owens who works with us at turning point USA. You know what the biggest problem we had is we could not find rooms big enough to fit all the students that wanted to attend our events. And look, we are not always the majority on these campuses but there is a lot more conservative, patriotic young people out there than the media would ever lead you to believe. It is amazing. For example, I spoke at UC Davis and this happens every so often. Antifa comes with their weapons and they come with their mostly peaceful approaches of bashing windows and all that nonsense. And the administrators come after us. The chancellor of the university, UC Davis, comes after me and attacks me personally and slandered me and just attacked me personally. And you think about it, here is an optional voluntary event for 90 minutes where I allow anybody that disagrees to go to the front of the line and have a microphone uninterrupted and say four years with these kids, I get 90 minutes and you guys lose your mind. Maybe it is because you are afraid that I have something to say to these kids and you might lose your ideological monopoly on me. 90 minutes. Give me 90 minutes with a student and I will at least get them to think differently. And again, we say to anyone that disagrees on these campus events, and again, if there is someone that disagrees tonight, you are welcome to ask a question. The rule applies everywhere. But I think in this beautiful part of Arizona, it is mostly warm and welcoming. But we will see. Again, whatever. It is an open invitation. It really all of a sudden puts them on defense. They say we are not used to having somebody have to challenge our beliefs and our values. And again, we go into these hostile environments. There is a couple of things I want to mention tonight. This beautiful part of Arizona, Yavapai County, is under attack from the left. You know this. This place is changing, okay? And something the left does very well is they constantly play offense. Arizona is my home now. It wasn't originally. I grew up in Chicago. Anyone is a refugee from Illinois? Anybody? A couple of people? Wow, a lot of hands. And Illinois used to be a great place. That is not a joke. Chicago used to be a great city. That is not a joke. It is a laughing stock now. It is a hellscape dystopia. And I don't say that with delight. I used to love that place. And I am tired of running. I am tired of having to flee a city. I don't want to have to live here. I have a daughter. I want to raise my kids and my grandkids here in this state. But let's be honest. The way this state is going, we are all going to have to leave. It is not going in the right direction, everybody. It is rapidly becoming a Colorado or a California. And we got to talk about it. Now, this part of the state, you guys have got your act together. You believe in law and order. You guys are voting very ruby red. And you guys, whatever you are doing, you need to do more of it. But, of course, they are coming into the teacher unions and the local school districts. These people don't stop. They are trying to infect the local institutions here. And I only know some of the specifics. But I get so many messages and emails. And, again, it is so interesting, right, that, you know, the left, they leave the Bay Area and they start doing research and they say, oh, you know, the crime and all this stuff, let's go ruin Prescott..

The Super Bowl With Two Black Starting Quarterbacks Went Viral

"So sunny hostin decided to make a commentary about the black quarterbacks in the Super Bowl. Mind you one of them is biracial. That means one of his parents is white and the other one is black, which is Patrick Mahomes. And then Jalen hurts his period of both his parents are black, they light skinned and so you know they mixed with something. But anyway, Jalen hurts being black, she gets on, and I'm paraphrasing that she made the statement to say that now we know that black people can run a team and there can be black quarterbacks. Well, first of all, that's why women y'all need to stick to y'all sports and leave our sports out of it. Especially if you ain't never watched football before, you know what you're talking about, you're just going on a rant about the Super Bowl the first one you've ever watched in your life. Black quarterbacks have been a thing for a very long time. Some of the greatest quarterbacks in history of the NFL were black quarterbacks. Somehow she forget about and I'm just going to say a brief number of them. Each of you get about one moon, way back in the day. Quincy Carter played for the cowboys. I mean, he was he great. He was a star quarterback on the cowboys. Dak Prescott. I mean, is he not black? I guess you don't count because he ain't in the Super Bowl. But then you go through Donovan McNabb, Steve, mcnair, Steve mcnair, you can go through college football and then go to the NFL. And they may not have panned out, but Vince Young was one of the best quarterbacks who ever played in college football in my opinion. He was one of the best quarterbacks to ever play. He got into the NFL may rookie of the year and then he didn't play after that because of his personal decision making. We can go down the list. Who you got, Nick. I mean, I think I got a few of them. Oh, you took my now. Lamar Jackson, which is the most dynamic quarterback in the NFL. And then you have Michael Vick way back in the day. Michael Vick came out. First round draft pick. Gun in it. Michael Vick was a tremendously great quarterback. I mean, I can go down a list of how many dynamic quarterbacks. In the funny thing is, is that they like to make a spectacle and try to point out everything they can to make us divided. And I talk about the black national anthem here in a second, but they try to make us divided.

Dak Prescott played the game of his life when the Cowboys needed it most | Opinion

"AP sports. I'm shek Freeman. The Dallas Cowboys dominated in the final game of super wild card weekend, won their first road playoff game since 1995 in a 31 14 trouncing of Tampa. Cowboys quarterback dak Prescott through four touchdown passes, coach Mike McCarthy says Prescott executed the game plan. You know, the play call and we just really stay true to what we wanted to do in here and I guess I thought he played extremely well. In the NBA Jason Tatum with 51 points in Boston's one 31 18 win over Charlotte. 51 is big, but you know, we played as a team. And I think that's what's been really big for us to use 6 or 7 games that we've been winning drew holiday had a season high 35 in Milwaukee knocked off Indiana one 32 one 19. It was Cleveland besting New Orleans one 13 one O three. Steph Curry had 41 in Golden State's one 27 one 18 win over Washington. Memphis won their tenth in a row one 36 one O 6, grizzlies guard John Moran says defense has been the reason. Once we lock in, you know, defensively,

"If you hadn't, if you hadn't heard collinsworth before, you probably wouldn't have noticed. You'd have thought he was just very elderly or something. But he got through it fine. The game was not dazzling. The cowboys kind of coming out of the gates like the packers did a year ago. A team that will probably I say finish about 13 and four, but they just, they had no weapons tonight. Dak Prescott had no one to throw to there was not a whole lot of offensive creativity. I will say the one thing I'll say in defense of the coaching staff, you're not really gonna run successfully against this buck's defense very often. That is their strength. And if you have to fall back on that, you are going to have problems. I think that there's a certain amount of defeatism in the NFL. There's got to be coaches that go into certain weeks and they look at their strengths. They look at their opponent's strengths and they just kind of throw their hands up in the air and say, I don't work miracles. That said, my counterpoint is your Mike McCarthy. You're one of the winningest coaches in the NFL. At some point, you got to do something, right? It's the season opener. You've had some time to work on it. And there were plays that it just looked like. This was the first time that any of these people had seen each other, which is probably true in some respects, right? I'm gathering that they didn't get a whole lot of reps together, but there was a screen pass to Zeke that was, I think that was towards the end of the third quarter. And for some reason, he just jumped, like right when it came out of dak Prescott's arms and I'm looking at this like, there's no timing, there's no sense of rhythm in this offense and it just seemed irreparably broken and far too defeatist for the fact that it's still the Dallas Cowboys and for a large portion of this game you had dak Prescott as your quarterback. That has to be enough. You would hope so. It clearly wasn't on this night though. Dak Prescott looked as even when he got out of the pocket and extended the play and this is what always worries him about quarterbacks. When you are consistently bad late in the down, it really hamstrings what you can do offensively. He threw a bad interception that could have been, I think Antoine field got it, but Carlton Davis also could have gotten it. And then he had the sort of pump fake play where he tried to flip it to Noah Brown, but and look, Noah Brown is not a hugely skilled pass catcher, but you have to be able to connect on that. That has to be a 12 yard gain. That's an opportunity on a night with very few opportunities. And of course, dak Prescott with presumably some kind of thumb injury. This is after a whole week of his shoes didn't fit his new sneakers were not good. So don't just hate it. It's just too much. It's too much for this early in the season. Yeah, this whole thing was strange. And again, if you're Mike McCarthy, the last thing you want to do is invite in the idea that this could at some point become a rudderless ship.

Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Beat Dallas Cowboys in Season Opener

"The nfl season opener. Last night brady threw four touchdown passes three hundred seventy nine yards and led the tampa. Bay buccaneers game winning drive to beat the dallas cowboys. Thirty one twenty nine last night in tampa bay jimmy fallon put last night's matchup in perspective. The buccaneers are trying to win their second straight super bowl and tom. Brady's eighth after that brady will have to make a bold choice whether or not to become a summering guy who's a big match of dallas. I'm tampa bay in texas versus florida fans from both teams. Were looking at each other. Like thank god. We don't live there. Cowboy's quarterback dak prescott was marvelous as well over four hundred yards in his return from a nasty ankle injury so showed no signs. He was fearless. He was great as the 2021. "What a classic we had last night. In case you're just joining us. Pick it up with a food. Quarter highlights of a thrilling opener between tom. Brady's buccaneers and dak prescott cowboys crunched on two minutes left for back down by two prescott. Cd land big play. Thirty one yards at huge cowboys in business. A minute half left greg's airline had already missed two field goals and an extra point but under the watchful eye of jerry jones. This forty eight yard is up and clutch and good in dallas up twenty nine twenty eight but they left too much time on the clock for the go. Look at the expression on. The face of tom brady. Who knew what it was gonna do. Brady grant gronk catch touchdown catches on the night and this twenty our game to put them in business and then the big play just moments later to chris. This is the one we discussed off the top of the show. If you're just joining us not one. Member of our crew here has an issue with that. Not being cold offensive pass interference. You take another look. Is there left arm extension. Yes there is call could have gone either way. It doesn't draw the flag and so tampa sets up this wyan suck up a thirty six yard game. Winning field goal and tampa takes it. Thirty one twenty nine made an absolute classic that prescott threw for four hundred three yards and three touchdowns. Tom brady threw for three hundred. "That's mike's three point. Conversion four week one. here's mine. Beware of the electrical outage in dc. I the chargers game with austin actors situation with his hamstring injury. Being up in the air. That makes it if it would make justin herbert's job even that much more difficult against that washington front and for as much mike is the chargers have upgraded their offense of line. It is week one. You still aren't necessarily sure on if everything's going to work as one cohesive unit beware of the electrical outages in dc for the chargers mainly because of that washington front and hamstring number. Two all bark. No bite is my headline there. And i'm talking about saquon barkley. There's all this talk saquon ramping. Up hundred percent is going to be the guy. I just don't think mike that the giants can throw him out there and expect that he's going to have twenty four to thirty carries in this game against denver. And honestly that's probably the last thing you wanna do. A guy that you still have under contract for a couple more years and is coming off of a serious knee injury. So as much of the positivity that you're getting from from the giants in saquon barclays availability for week one. Be cautious all bark no bite against denver and finally purple rain vikings in cincinnati. It's the if there was a lock. I guess that would be my lock in with that. I would try to play as many vikings as good against the cincinnati bengals. It's my three point conversion dacca way right. I wanna see what cincinnati is. That offensive line's still concerns. Me and i think short fields for captain kirk and company adam feeling and the the whole band of merryman. Hell even chris herndon. The fourth might be worth a daily. Now he's not as for saquon barkley a couple of days ago. They were still saying you're going to be ready for week one. Oh that that. That's not very encouraging. And i like rope-a-dope opportunities like they did it with dak prescott. And then all of a sudden there was a burst of positivity and he comes out on the scene like a beast and lasts. Because you know you brought up the charges. Just jackson is going to be the number one guy. Go cats while the waiver wire right now are three point conversions in before we wrap up i just because it was only fitting for me being a moron implying ronald jones in week one knowing full. "Enough of bucks cowboys. Let's look ahead to week. One in mike as we look ahead to week one we actually look back at. What happened on thursday because it was another awful day for the baltimore ravens. That's big story heading into week. Watt is what the heck do you do now. If you're if you have any investment into the baltimore ravens how do you clean up if you drafted dobbins. How do you clean up if you drafted or picked up gus edwards after his knee injury. That's going cost them the season. How do you think play things. Play out in baltimore and even big picture. How do they affect lamar jackson. And a guy like mark. Andrey's well congratulations on mark andrews on getting the ink to dry on his contract. I joke that. I wonder if the facilities are managed by the chicago park district. Maybe a little inside baseball. But it goes into the bears wanting to go move to arlington heights at the side of the old arlington park racetrack of who else in charge of these things. In why are there so many activities or is it. Just you know you just got a bad case of something going on. Someone's not live in right. And you need kyrie irving the come in with the sagebrush to take all the bad user tyson williams. We talked about him last week. Was the guy that. I would have put some chips in on six foot tall to twenty bowling ball. Kind of guy that i think is going to get every shot to be the guy right now. it's kind of interesting in that early on thursday. Yeah we're gonna we're gonna ride the bus and it was all about gus edwards and then he goes down. Marcus peters goes down your already. Had all those injuries in the receiving core right bateman Go on down. The line justice hill at the. I mean you know just was wondering happen. Yeah it's it's just one of the and hill had been battling some other injuries. And then he gets the the final blow there. So you bring in levy on bell your bring in devante freeman and you bring in latavius. Murray lady i bel- couldn't stay on the field. Despite all of the defections injuries and other things happening again the city a year ago we talked about it. Daryl williams now damian williams because he opted out and he's always chicago but daryl williams was getting touches before lay on velez so i kinda disqualify him. That's a if you're bench is deep. Sure stash them and watch this week and see what happens. Likewise devante freeman if you need to go down that road. Because you had dobbins or gus edwards or insert otherwi- wide receiver a running back. That went down with injury. Fine i think latavius murray of those three guys is the most likely to come in and actually do something because we've actually seen him perform at a decent level most recently different.

"prescott" Discussed on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed

"Room dot com and check out thousands of great cars. Dak prescott is set to play in his first game action since last october and there are some pretty high expectations the qb not only as dallas expected to challenge for the division crown with him under center but dak is also garnering buzz for comeback player of the year and mvp and of course. He's got the mega contract. He signed this off season that he's looking to live up to as well leading cowboys insider tim cowlishaw to write prescott dot paid. Now it's time to play Shannon was there more pressure on deck to prove you deserve the contract or to prove he can live up to the contract had to prove both because what he was asking for was more than what people thought he was gonna get or what he deserved so he had to put up numbers to say. Look i'm worthy of this type of contract but now this is where the pressure really really starts and this is what i've told you before we had this conversation with people saying there's more pressure on that i mean. Excuse me own. Zeke than dag skip. It's always going to be more pressure on the quarterback since they changed the rule since they opened up to feel with the way. You can attack the quarterback the defensive receiver the illegal contact. The clinton grabbing. They've opened up the field. So if made it incumbent that you have a very good quarterback the pressure is the mon derrick. Henry is on ryan donahue. The pressure is on kareem hood. In nick its own baker mayfield. The pressure isn't only zeke elliott. The pressure is on that prescott. One he plays. The most important position is what you've told me. Second of all. He has the ball in his hand every single play and now he has that mammoth contract. He got forty million everybody for the most part nobody. He's not getting that money overplayed his. Hey that's too much money. They wanna give him what they gave. jerry golfing carson win. Which i told you give set for that. You'll have to pay him so for me. The pressure is on dak prescott at my mind just talking about this because everybody will say well he got to do it. This you know the contract is up a one year. The contract is for four years. So you gotta play the long game. Also don't think just because he doesn't get it done bisher he devin have three more to get it done. He has three more years. His thing is now. I'm ex. he's going to have that some point time. Get this team to an nfc championship. Game skipped. He just can't win. The division are terrible to be at that. He can't just win one playoff game. He's going to have to get to an nfc championship game in eventually. Get them to a super bowl greed for people to say you know what that was money well spent. Yeah harry yep for in his eyes to realize that you know what that was the right thing to do because jerry keep saying is not what are you saying. That helps us oh five. It didn't seem to be the case last year in leading up until he got the contract he didn't think that was the pied piper. He didn't fake. There was an around him. he didn't think it was the guy that would learn something on the track and field and be able to translate it and take it to the game. He didn't think that now all of a sudden he thinks bet. Will he pigs that. Because you know what i gave it around forty meal. Now he'd like get you know it other businesses second third pretty good. Yeah hey i might not have the highest market cap but if the third. I pretty good but this here. Okay my turn but before i go i would like to alert our audience to the fact that during the break shannon sharpe stole my jersey stole it and now he is defiled it he is tainted it. He is jinxed it might have been get another one. Yeah we got a rate. Do the real brady jerry. That does get a brady. Hater has touched golden gods jersey. That's all you need to know. And that is bad. News taylor true like brady border the cab. Credible hawking jersey apart. You're going to throw my jersey before this segment is as i know it i go. I saw i tell the truth. Is i want to know who i america whose first cowboy brave. I need to know it goes cowboys. Ernestine brady thank you labradors. They let him in the house. We have laundry. We gotta get this laundered for the show is over back to dak. Here's my view of prescott. I believe after the first three games of two thousand nineteen he and his agent. Todd france zip clearly new agent at that point put their heads together and said wait a second. I just lit up three straight teams. I am leading the national football league and qbr. I am averaging ninety one. Just talk about alex. Smith hat or ninety-one dak averaged ninety one. Qbr's run away with it after three games against the new york giants and at washington and miami at home and those teams were going to be three and thirteen three and thirteen five and eleven bad football teams in to your credit mr hall of famer you kept pointing it out every monday garbage team garbage time garbage team. Garbage time right okay. So still they went to war with jerry jones. Remember jerry said after opening day at gerry world. we're close rate. Is he used the word. Immanent right imminent as in what. I'm talking about days in the next few days were done as in we gotta cross t.'s. Dot is and sign the bottom line because we have shaken hands on the money right. Am i right. Yes and somehow that rug got jerked right out from under jerry jones and he was not happy about it and they went to contractual. War rolled warned him pass. Do not invite him where it got ugly over the next couple of months right right right and i thought something was done remember. They just had done zeke. He came back from kabul and they made him the highest paid running back and i thought wa going. We go by opening day. I thought the tandem would be in place. Dak would get his mind and it went on and it went on and it went on so waited everybody starts to say that is something. He stood up to jerry and he is betting on himself. How many times did you hear that down. The stretch of twenty nineteen so they go from three zero to finishing five and eight. And i'm here to tell you. Dak prescott crumbled under that pressure to show jerry worth however many millions. He was about to get right. I thought it was the worst case scenario for back because over these last thirteen games as they go five and eight. He ranked fifteenth by pro football. Focus rankings among quarterbacks so he was just a middle of the pack and. I can't give him any better than that. Because you know what kept happening. Big road losses at jets at new england ashikaga buffalo on thanksgiving new orleans. That was early and then late was at philly. And that look like an average quarterback to me. And i'm thinking remember that's why jerry starting to have second thoughts about. Do i really want to do this. And it drags on and on and on into last year. So how did he open up last year. We'll he played really well against the rams on opening night right sunday night. Then i'm hoping he repeats. That performance tonight at tampa bay but they came within one bad. Call on you. Remember on gallup on jalen ramsey where they call it a push off on on my Often he did not pay ridiculous but they came close to at least tying that game going to overtime. So i'll give you that game and then here we go atlanta in the home opener has them down twenty nine to ten at half like you. Always tell me the cowboys. Get the ball in the first half. You got the ball. They're down thirty nine to twenty four with eight minutes to go in the game where they getting the ball. Yeah they're getting the ball and obviously defense was historically bad but some out. Miraculously they pull that one out when forty thirty nine. Thanks to the watermelon onside kick..

"Once thought Bernard Hopkins was fighting him to a draw. Now you still saw Hopkins get knocked out of the ring. Right of like, I got to think by the time of the Super Bowl rolls around is is Tom Brady is still going to be operating at that level. I'm not predicting he won't be about an axis. Hey, Mac. Yes. So what? So what We're all saying is he's never going to get old. No, I'm not saying that nothing. He's got 3 to 4. Good years left in him. Why isn't looking at? Why is it said it last year when he was in Training camp and running around and throwing boss it, man I do. Got about four or five years left. Manning had a brain, right, but yeah, man I got I was just about to say Jay Payton. Manning had started to fall apart. Drew Brees has a brain started to fall apart, restarted to follow. So now we're talking about that's what I mean. What is it a pain. He's ready. But he's not coming out high cream or, you know avocado ice cream? Yeah, yes. Avocado Ice cream. Avocado Key Lime pie album condo In his bad I'm serious. I want you guys who you are You care of your body avocado ice cream when you take care of your body. And you spend the necessary time and money to do those things like LeBron like a Tom Brady guys start to develop different habits. They get the bad stuff out of their body and put it in the good stuff. And then it's almost like better fuel to keep them going. Yes, I know Somehow no one else has figured this out. But Tom Brady, who's doing it, It's not for you longer than that long that I started the longest. Max is not that nobody else has figured it out. People have tried it in the year. Think about it. Jerry Rice played till he was 1000 years old. They made a decision endeavor to make him the fifth receiver instead of the second or the third. So he retired, but Jerry Rice When he had the little braids. The extensions. Yeah. Instead of actually having twist is he extended them. He was still damn good. You care somewhere There are some guys who make that decision. And I guess they just do it with more dedication I mentioned in boxing. Bernard Hopkins is 50 until when? When he was still beating guys. Tom Brady is years and years older than the oldest guy. Whoever did it is still great. Let's actually hear from someone now. Who thinks the better quarterback is in fact. On the Dallas side. Dominique Fox Worth, ESPN NFL analyst on Get up This is at the end of August, said this That Prescott has been outstanding. He's outplayed Tom Brady when he was healthy, so like I think that it's a reasonable expectation. The four games that deck played before the fifth when he got injured in his numbers, all of them like the advanced numbers, the counting numbers all the advanced statistics. He was better than Tom Brady, and that the entire season before that, where they both played all 16 games. That press that press guy was better than him and all the advanced statistical metrics thing, too. So, like I find it hard to believe that all of a sudden Tom Brady is going to be better than him. If that remains healthy, that's going to continue to outperform. Tom Brady. Hmm. So, uh, that was just that was such like an argument. Key that disk use towards conversation conversation. Yes, comrade. Well, it was an argument cause it wasn't on our show is coming. Do you not believe in arguments? They do exist? No, but we like we like civil discourse. Don't Yeah, we don't get in the park. It's too early in the morning. To argue, Max. That's not we want to have conversation and thoughtful conversations and be very smart as we do these things. We don't want to scream and holler and arguing. No, no, no, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Hold on. Wait a second. Wait a second. You know we don't have to look for an argument if it happens, but it has a disagreement and we feel strongly about it. That's what it's called. And guess what. That the condensation of arguments or it's very negative. So we want to use positive vibe. Guys tell him key. Yes. We stay away from negative connotations on this show. Well, maybe you used to tell you but anyway, but anyway, as Dominick Fox was saying, right there, guys You know, I kind of understand what he's saying. And I think that was based on the top 100 from right, Evan correctly correct me If I'm wrong, the top 100 list that came out in the NFL. I believe he was commenting on that It was predictive key. Well, it was. It was a prediction about what's going to happen like where you think guys will be what they will do in the upcoming year and so Look. Okay. One Tom Brady is on the better team. Okay, then, let's just be honest with each other. He's on a better team. The defense is better. You can argue, skilled positions, whatever you want to, But the defense is better so therefore it's a better team. I think Tom Brady Because of that certainly has the advantage over Dak Prescott. Now is Dak Prescott. Going to be a hell of a quarterback this year? Yes. Can he lead a team? Yes. But would I rather have Tom Brady right now? At age 70? Or would I have back press? Got it. 20. I'd rather have the dude that 70 because as I always tell Jane, I like people that got a little gray on the side because that tells me something opposed to somebody that does not. They've been there. Done That..

"Lamb can't stop getting attention going into his second year with the cowboys. After lighting up training camp lamb now tops the list for favorite fantasy football players going into this season from one expert and skipped has been high on lamb since he was drafted and believe he'll take over the number one receiver role for amari cooper shannon. What is your response. We'll skip this fantasy. This is based on. They his his production. His touchdown production is going to take a leap. I don't believe he's a top ten receiver. That's just me personally. I'm not taking over tyree. Devante de hop digs ridley. Julio keenan allen decay med cav. Mike headwinds mike ev. Excuse me a ab would situation where he could be a number one. I'm not taking the other guys. Aj brown. i'm not taking him over that Justin jefferson team but skip the question. Ills amari cooper. You believe that he's going to jump amari making twenty million because he's better or because amari they injured come off ankle surge right. What are they going to be held. And it'll be good to go that so i don't. I don't see that happening. I do expect him to to crack. I'll get eleven hundred yards. Eleven hundred and fifty plus yard this year. i'll go because he was slightly under a thousand last year. So i believe they'll lean on him a little bit more lou questionnaire if the mari healthy i don't see him jumping amari. If amar isn't healthy that's the natural progression is that he's slide into the number one role and that's why you see them start to move him around and play some of the position that amara would normally normally occupied okay. I tried to tell you this the night day after the draft right the night up. I tweeted it day after i came right in here and i said oh. You're now in trouble. Because i told you from the start. He is going to be the best receiver in his class. I know just jefferson. Had a breakout magical rookie year. Last year in minnesota i give you all the above. Although do you remember that. Mike McCarthy Compares Coaching Dak Prescott and Aaron Rodgers

"Mike mccarthy opened up about what he learned his pastime with aaron rodgers car relationship with dak prescott. It was all done in what was described as a quote relaxed environment for forty five minutes. Several cowboys reporters mccarthy also spoke of constantly of the cowboys situation. Saying obviously you wanna win games. But i'm building a championship program. Not just trying to win one. We're trying to win them. All so shannon. What do you make of this informal session with mccarthy skew say sometime why why would you tweet that or why would you go to social media why you know skill. I'll believe mike mccarthy believe he's not the coach of the green bay packers because they're rogers wanted him fired. I believe that's what scale with. Someone says oh he. The clinic was that he weird weird he. He's a very intelligent guy. well he the guy. That's very condescending. That thinks he knows more than you and he talks down to people and why that will be going back. Guess what they get this and go back. Aaron rodgers aaron. Did you hear what might say. Yup look out i play. I don't know how many how many of these. Tom lehrer do coach landry. How many did jimmy. Johnson do sit down interview. What is this your the hand you. The head coach of the dallas cowboys cared about no relationship. They won't you there to win game. They will to be free. They come into the house to eat. You're not sleeping anybody's house. Shannon Sharp: Kawhi Leonard Will Not Win a Championship for Clippers

"We have some big clippers news and even though there's no timetable set for his return we now know will be sticking around in la. Yesterday quiet agreed with the clippers to a four year deal. They player option. That is worth over. One hundred seventy six million according to ward so shannon will. He lead the clippers to championship. During this contrast this up look at it like this. Break it down like this. We do know that there's a likelihood that he's gonna miss some of the season this year. You're going to be some or is it going to be all. He missed fifteen games with thirty. Gave me say you know what guys. I'm gonna make sure totally healthy because this is what we know about learning history. He does not play hurt. So i'm gonna say this year. I'm gonna wash it up. He played on even though. I think there's a fifty fifty chance. He does play but he missed some games. You better hope. He doesn't play this year art. I wanted to play. I wouldn't i wouldn't play. It doesn't matter to me He we don't worry about we. Don't worry about the other squad but anyway so that's one year so he has two years left. Because the fourth option basically skip. That's an insurance policy. In case the need do give out on it. Because we know his history. He's had some issues over the last several years. That's called the time. I was gonna say they don't scale because i don't believe the nets. I don't believe we are walking out. Don't believe the lakers. I don't believe some of these other teams have some of the issues that they have now. When you signed when you have two guys on deals paul george and aqua leonard it becomes very difficult for you to fill out your roster with significant players basically. You're getting guys who mid level exceptions you guys taking the vet minimum.

"In hard knocks with the Dallas Cowboys as they report to camp tomorrow, by the way, so this is their third time. The Cowboys first appeared on hard knocks in 2002 and finished with a five and 11 record that season. Yeah, Uh, they then appeared a second time in 2008. And they missed the postseason with a nine in seven record. With an uber talented team that was done in partly because of locker room turmoil. Now it is the second season. Under a really a new head coach Mike McCarthy. I mean, last year was his first year with the team. And you know he had injured quarterback last year in Dak Prescott. Activists Demand Answers After Nooses Found At Amazon Construction Site

"Month ago, nooses began appearing at an Amazon warehouse construction site in Connecticut. Police now say that only two of the eight ropes found by the sites workers were actual nooses as that investigation continues. Social justice advocates are trying to work with Amazon and the buildings contractor to make sure workers there feel safe. Connecticut Public Radio's Frankie Graziano has more Windsor, Connecticut Police chief Donald Melanson told NPR this morning only two of eight ropes reported on the site are being investigated his nooses that's news to Scott X S. We've been dealing with this situation close to six weeks now, everything that they've told us that the ropes that they've seen Would be considered a noose for as Dale. It's more confusion on top of an already confusing situation. He's just trying to make sure workers are okay. The most important thing is the individuals that On the site that are scared, and they shouldn't be scared. They should be able to give a hard day's work and get home safe to their families. The noose is a symbol of hate, and it stresses Corin Prescott out. She led a protest at the site last week. Many of our brothers and sisters hunger From nooses like the ones they were left here at Amazon to protesters chained themselves to a gate. Cornell Lewis was one of them. Okay, change of this fence. We want to know what is Amazon going stupid? Brad Griggs as a leader on Amazon's economic development team, which moved to secure the site after 1/7 news was reported. We did so after really pushing our developers and the general contractor to take control of this situation, Greg says. Amazon ordered the shutdown, even though it hasn't yet taken over the site. While we believe things were being managed appropriately. You know, looking back, we could have stepped in to assess the situation and understand what steps were being taken maybe a little bit earlier. Greg says Amazon's reevaluating its partnership with companies currently managing the site, the developer and the contractor. Scannell

Will the Lawsuits Against Watson Stall 1st-Round Picks?

"At this point. There have been thirteen civil lawsuits. I think got it is literally not trying to make light of its changing by the hour. Sarah barshop covers. The texans for us is constantly reporting these new lawsuits alleging sexual harassment. Or in some cases. Assault against the shawn watson I have just been sitting back waiting for the news to come in reading the suits. Watson's lawyers have not responded in full yet. I think there's going to be much more like a. We're going to get not just more information. But also kind of someone kind of synthesizing all of this and explaining what it means for watson and i'm not talking about football just like what it means for his future in and what it means for these women forward i like. I'm not i haven't been doing this. Just been kind of going with the news and waiting for it. All of this. As like. I find i have found the discourse on it already to be incredibly toxic and dispiriting and the whole story. It's very sad in. It is definitely it also coming at this crazy moment. Where if this like literally a week ago. You and i probably on shows talking about. Will this team's going to do this. And this team that we just don't know now. So i just like i have no idea how this is going to play out. Not just for the accusers for him. But all any of the teams involved in this including houston. It is a black box at the moment for me john. Yeah and and. I think that you handled the non-football element of this extremely well. And i echo ditto everything that you said from. And so i'll have to say that. That exact thing that you just said way better than i could but i will take it to a football to a trade element side because it was what we were all talking about with the dak prescott contract for so long now because we both sorta gone silent as we all were sitting back watching not having take about it as we're trying to figure out and and synthesize everything It makes it extremely difficult based on volume and the details in the allegations for any team to trade what would be equivalent to four first picks Because i if you do that right now you're saying to your fans because there's no way that you can properly investigate a dozen claims If you if you go to shawn watson this week and so you're saying well we we investigated and we all know that that's why Or you're also saying what we didn't investigate and we don't care and you can't do that and And so there's it's a holding pattern right now And obviously role in the real world realized stuff is what's most important here but it had. It was such a gigantic. nfl story. Whereas the shawn watson gonna land one with the jay leno panthers give up and now it sort of disappeared. And i do think that we do have to sort of touch on it and say no one can do anything right

Did Washington Do Enough to Push Dallas in the NFC?

"Did washington football teams teamers and the giants do enough to push dallas in the nfc. So i left philly out. I don't yeah. I just don't i am found anyone who really thinks they're going to be competitive. I mean let's wait and see got jalen whatever. But that's a team that they're not really fun to talk about. Because their free agency considered like stripping you know but i mean they did sign at harris for like nothing which is probably better sightings but what you have in jalen also you serianni. Yes hundred percent but washington in york both very active and did interesting. Things i think are worth discussing because dallas after the dak prescott deal was finally done. They've kind of made a few moves around the margins adding kia neil. Getting tied as kind of swing. Tackle still have question marks at adra sure and coroner but washington like i think they might have had my favorite free agency or at least the one that i'm most excited to see. I don't know payoff on the field. So just to recap. They signed the aforementioned ryan fitzpatrick one year. Ten million dollars. They tag branch eff. Who's there Pro bowler guard. They signed william jackson from the bengals. Cornerback three years. Forty two million dollars and then added panthers wide receiver. Curtis samuel for three years thirty four point five million dollars so just starting like let's start here. Do you agree with me like do you. Do you like what they did. And do you think it makes them an actual competitor in the division. A really like what. Washington did You know. I think among the guys among the quarterback that they could get because not only were they never in it for russell wilson or or wherever really going to be competitive for shawn watson You had to start looking okay. We'll what's realistic. And it's the ryan fitzpatrick coming off his best his career. It's an andy dalton and whereas that really gonna lead you I think that there was a lot of interest in marcus. Mariota he still is not able to sign with another team because the raiders are still holding him hostage But so. I like the quarterback. Move because you're essentially saying let's build up the team the and let's have the strongest team possible around the quarterback position where we don't sell out just because we have to for that position free agency. Maybe they make a move at the draft for a guy that they have their eye on. Or maybe they just say let's. Let's keep the boat floating this year and let's make our move Next free agency. So i thought that they probably overpaid by million or two on curtis samuel. But they wanted him And and ron rivera really likes them. Obviously william jackson an incredible deal You look around and you need another pass rusher and they can they can probably keep ryan kerrigan as a third down specialist if he comes down off his number end so you know he's he's still doing that. He's gonna get paid a whole lot of money. I'm not sure that that money is really out there especially at this point in free agency so they didn't want to mortgage their future for for quarterback right. Now they wanted to keep the boat afloat. I that and so. I like what they have done. Specially on evens. Then when you consider the the sort of offense and the pre-snap that they can have with all those offensive playmakers. Now that curtis annuals there with terry corn. I really like with done.

They have not formally requested a trade but it seems like the relationship has some conflict there. he has a no trade clause in his contract. There were specific exemptions from four. Team's the cowboys. The saints the bears and las vegas after dak prescott signed is extent like talked about and the raiders recently have back derek carr. They've given their full support. They they wanna move forward their cars. So that really leaves the saints and the bears as the final two candidates for possibly getting russell wilson this offseason so saints are always in salary cap trouble From what. I've learned about the salary cap they can. They ended up being able to just move money around when they need to. But they're always close to reaching that point so they're always during the cat but it seems unlikely that they will be able to make a move for quarterback this price in this caliber. So when you re comes down to it. The bears like the front runners as the most desperate team. Four quarterback if you've watched the nfl shares have always had quarterback issues. They've been in quarterback hell so to speak for the past two decades and russell. Wilson could come in and immediately fix that so the bears are desperate. And i see the bears as the front running candidate to lead russell wilson or land russell. Wilson this offseason. So when did all this start with russell. wilson is come out of nowhere I would say to myself when i first saw. Russell wilson wants out. I was shocked. But although it's not that cut and dry comes down to russell wilson. Mp carol's relationship. So they've won a superbowl. They made playoffs made. They made the playoffs. Eight times in the last nine seasons which is absurd. It's absurd to think there was wasn't been playing in the nfl for the last nine seasons But he's been assault as they come. He's true winner. he goes to the playoffs. he's clutch and i see. The situation is very similar to the tom. Brady situation new england. You had tom brady and bill play for all those years. Winning all those super bowls and talk. Although tom brady wasn't playing up to his level he wasn't playing bad and they had that loss to the titans of the playoffs. And i think he just had those two egos bill. Belichick and tom brady kind of going at each other. And they've they've finally kind of just tired of that relationship and they wanted to move on. They wanted to start. Something new. And when quarterbacks are with the head coach for so long things start to take a turn for the worst so. I'm not sure if that's exactly what's happening with p carroll and russell wilson but there are a lot of similarities there so it was reported in week. Eleven of the season. That wilson stormed out of an offensive meeting when he was trying to offer insight as to what he wanted done as on a bit done for protection standpoint and so that was the first sign the second sign is just overall. He's been getting hit way. Too much. says he's sacked. He's been three hundred ninety four times since entering the league which is on pace to be the most sat quarterback of all time which is pretty insane when you consider how well he's played and he's just been under duress running for his life literally for the last his whole career and so seattle hasn't found a way to kind of sure up that protection for him. I think that's starting to get frustrating as well. So but more specifically in two thousand twenty. He had a week nine loss to the bills. This was a defining moment for this offense offense because after that moment. Russell wilson had started to throw a lot of turnovers making a lot of risky plays they lose to the bills. The seahawks kind of started to scale the offense back like i said to limit turnovers and did not perform well for the rest of the season so before that game. They were top. Three league based on expected points added per play. They were the number three the top three leak and then after that game from from weeknight on they felt a number eighteen the remainder of the season. So that's a huge huge drop off so they really sputtered down the stretch. They were able to win games and make the playoffs through to their defense. Kind of picking picking up. Their play was weird. Their offense was so good in the beginning the defense awful and he kind of flipped that latter half of the year but he's also getting hit It doesn't seem to meet on their offensive loss of beat philosophy and he. He's definitely voiced that he wants more of a say. In the franchise direction as the franchise quarterback so all these things culminating into one is. Where would he end up.

"Realm of possibilities when it comes to Jerry Jones, and here's my favorite part of the story. And I saw that you just the end. This too, May so Derek Eagleton, I guess is involved leading their Social media department our their media programming whatever his title, is director of media programming for the Dallas Cowboys. That's what it says on his Twitter. So this is elicited some response. And this is the world we live in. Now. I love these social media videos. Is that the Cowboys? Actually innocuously just put out this video and didn't put that Prescott in. That to me is unfathomable. Really? How do you leave out the quarterback? But I think when I think of the Dallas Cowboys to trace when you think of the Dallas Cowboys, who is the first player that comes to mind nowadays. Dak Prescott, right, for good or for bad Jack Prescott. And even if he's not the first one, you maybe you think, Zeke even though Zeke didn't have all that hot of a season this year, maybe you think warrants on the defense aside the ball For the most part in the NFL. You're thinking about the quarterback first. You're thinking that Prescott Dak Prescott saw in this video. So, Derek Eagleton says This was simply an oversight that should have been caught and corrected by us anyone is making it seem like the Cowboys decision makers use social media videos. To make statements don't understand, or take this time to understand how it all works. Trust me, There's no story here. How many people probably have to approve this video. I'm not saying this is necessarily 100% coming from the top, right? Can you imagine if something leaks out Jerry Jones, a voicemail. A dark. It's Jerry Jones here from the Cowboys. If you want to keep your job, you don't put that Prescott in the video because then we'll have a lot of leverage in our contract situation. That would be gold. We get Kensi, Can we get all the Els at TMZ? However they get their information. Could we get them on that? That audio that we don't have a Jerry Jones probably yelling at this guy, Derek to get that Prescott out of the video that B e mail had. I don't want Derek. I don't want to back in the E mail in the video, Derek Uh, alright. Ultimately. Is this a huge deal? No. But how do you make a video if you're good at your job, and I don't know the extent of the Cowboys Social Media department If you're good at your job, How did you put the face of the franchise? Talking players because the face of the franchise is Jerry Jones. How don't you put the face of the franchise and a hype video for next season when the biggest.

"Garrett on wild card weekend because they wanted to steal the spotlight. Jerry Jones. That's a mad scientist because what he calculated in this game to get that attention was pure brilliance. Here's suck, Gilb. Is it more drama with the Dallas Cowboys? What did surprise may Jerry Jones probably saw this video said, Huh? Is that that Prescott in the video, not take him out? We don't want that Prescott in the video. I'm about to negotiate and remember. Oh, I think it was a year ago. But we had Jerry Jones talk about how you need to get Your bachelor's degree before you get your master's degree and the importance that you could learn things from the initial stages in college, which the bachelor's degree that could help you when you eventually get your master's degree in something and how he knows with all these negotiations that if you're in the forest And if your hand gets cut up, you could stitch up that hand. And you know what? A stitch up that hand? Not necessarily because you're a master at something, but what you knew in the initial stages, huh? Yeah. That's how Jerry Jones was talking about the Dak Prescott contract situation a year ago how he's been in so many contract negotiations that he knows how to win these negotiations. And then he basically lost all the leverage because, he said, this is a deal that I know I have to do. Really? That's the deal that you know you had to do. Well, why didn't you get the deal done with Dak Prescott last off season and the confusing thing to may. I think to me that I am still just very mystified by with the whole Dak Prescott contract situation. It's not is it? The Cowboys don't believe in him. They offered him more years. They wanted to take the five year deal at the 35 $36 million. They offered him over 100 of it guaranteed, So this was not the Cowboys saying. Hey, we're only gonna give you $28 million Hey, we're only going to give you three years now. They said 35 36 million and Oh, yeah, We want you here for five years and Dak wanted the four year contract. Have this gripe. And to have this play out so publicly now well over a year with your quote unquote franchise quarterback. I don't get this. So here's what I'm referencing. And do I think this is an enormous deal? No, I do not. But it's the Cowboys. We liked to have fun at the expense of the Cowboys, and just the small, tiny, teeny, tiny, teeny, tiny chance That this was intentional. You got to talk about it. Maybe it was intentional. Because of how much the Cowboys are associated with drama. It would not surprise me if it was intentional. So the Dallas Cowboys first off why they're releasing a video now makes no sense to me. No, the season just ended. And you're trying to have one of those social media pushes. Oh, our 2021 season our quest for championship it starts right now. Because Cowboys fans haven't been in the big game since 1995. So I guess they're missing what it's feeling this time of the year, so you have to give him something to look forward to in February. So we need a premature hyped video. When you don't even know really Who's going to be on the team for the 2021 season and I'm watching this video. Actually, a buddy of mine texted it to me and he goes. Watch this video. Tell me if you find anything bizarre about it. And I watch it the first time and because I'm not always the most astute person in the world. I said, What's What's bizarre about this. So 35 42nd video prematurely. Get ready for Dallas Cowboys football for the 2021 season, the 2021 season starts right now. He goes, Watch it again. Tell me if you don't see anyone in the video So I'm slowing this thing down. I'm pausing it at the four second mark the 11 2nd Mark the 14 2nd Mark and I go, Huh? With that little hint. Notice of anyone's missing. I go. I don't see that Prescott. Now, Dak Prescott did not play in a bevy of games this year because of the horrifying injury that he did suffer. But you have Dak Prescott footage because when the team was losing early on the season, it wasn't bad Press Scott's fault They were putting up a prodigious amount of points each and every week. Your defense, though. Look like Swiss cheese a lot of holes in that defense. So I went back. I looked at the names that were actually the video CD lamb worthy of being in the video. Jalen Smith. All right. We've got a contract extension worthy of being in the video. Then I see guys like Darian Thompson, the safety Don't lie Safety. Nothing special. See Dalton Schultz in the video. But we don't have that Prescott. Hmm. Interesting curb Your enthusiasm didn't didn't didn't and and then and then and then and then and 29,000 and 10 and 10. Is there a little stare off coming here between Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott? You know, you really get a slap in with the franchise tag again and not get a long term deal done. Are you really going to do that? I would say no right, like it wouldn't surprise me that given the franchise tag, but you gotta think they're going to get a deal done. But then yet again. Don't you think they were going to get a deal done last year, and they didn't Are you going to treat someone that you love? Some of that you think is your future Someone that could be your next franchise quarterback for the next? What 8 to 10 years. If he has his health, if not more than that. And Dad still has a long ways to go. I think that at times shows you he could be a top 10 quarterback in this league. I think he's hovering right on that 10 line, though. Some weeks, he goes past it some weeks. He's not quite in the top 10. But I put that Prescott of what anywhere between nine to let's say 13 is the range. There's been some games or he's shown you. Hey, I could be a top five quarterback. But you got to see a little bit more consistently. He's a good quarterback. There's been some consistency on the level of good. I need to see him take it up to the next level being great. The Dallas Cowboys have already told you we think he could be a great quarterback with the offer that they gave him last year. And you're still not getting this deal done. So the longer this goes on, it just gives more value to a story like this as a name as it may sound. All the cowboys. No way they intentionally left Dak Prescott out of the video. Do you doubt.

"You know pretty much standard. It was reported today. And you could say well maybe the guy from tv or the internet or whatever but this was eighteen eighty nine so he obviously didn't get as many of those sources and shows that there's a continuity in these accounts that goes back long before d. h. A modern media which i think is interesting. I had a guest on a while ago. Who's written a book published boxwood university. Press on he looked in near death experiences in indigenous religions so these stories that have come down hundreds of thousands of years and ryan. It's still nice to a theory that The idea on the image of heaven hell comes from near death experiences kazoo People have distressing death experiences as well right. I think that's probably true. And i also think that it's possible. At least that some of the biblical stories of for instance the israelites taking the the the the tent the tabernacle with them in the desert and then moses would go in and he would commune with god. That may have been some kind of a seance. You know. I mean it might seem blasphemous to say that but maybe that was an early example of a say on and he was communing with some spiritual advisor in that dark tattoo. I mean why. Would you bring a dark tent with you when they set up the the holy of holies in the temple it turned out to be an empty room so it wasn't like there was some elaborate setup in there. It was just going into an empty room and communing with somebody. It sounds like a seance and another example of amazing vision with indies. The easy talk about the vicki. Opaque who was blind. Oh yes. I remember that one. Yes yes there. Several cases of Of people who were blind and some cases were born blind and when they had an nda they suddenly discovered site for the first time and they could. they talked about callers and they had never. I don't remember if vicky was born blind or not. I don't have a case right friday but some of these people were and they can report that they they They saw collar for the first time they saw shapes for the first time and they were asked. "And you can find the show notes this and every other episode on my website. My instagram is the past lives podcast with an underscore between each word and on twitter. I am at simon g. bound this week. I'm talking to michael prescott about his book. The far horizon perspectives on life beyond death in two thousand and seven. After twenty years in traditional publishing michael began releasing his older titles and some new novels as e books much to his amazement. Sales took off from two thousand eleven. He was one of the best selling book writers in the united states today. Four million books this book that we're talking about today. The far horizon is i work of nonfiction. I'm michael. Thanks a lot for coming onto the pope cost. It's great of you. Give us your time. Thank you sean. Original book the far horizon perspectives of life beyond death. You write fiction don't you. This is your first nonfiction book. Yes but i have been blogging on this subject for a long time. I've been blogging on it Since around the year two thousand. So it's been about twenty years. In fact i just got my fifty thousand comment on the blog so you. I have had a lot of feedback. I've done about sixteen hundred posts. They aren't all about the paranormal but most of them are and my particular interest is life after death. I think that's the most interesting thing. So i mean this is a longtime interest of mine. It hasn't shown up my fiction except for one novella that i published called chasing omega. Which is all about this government Planned to study medium ship in the afterlife. A couple of people get caught up in and get chased. Tried to work in some of my ideas there but other than that. I haven't allowed the two things to intersect. I've kept them. I think if you let the kind of ruin you you'll like arthur conan doyle. Maybe made a mistake by abandoning sherlock holmes to the extent that he did and and writing more fiction with focusing more on spiritualism from a career standpoint. I'm just saying that might not have been the best poof So i'm always conscious of what my readers expect and they don't expect the suspense readers want thrillers. They don't want metaphysics. Always skip to if you had any need. Paranormal experiences yourself. Well i was a skeptic until my mid thirties now i have had what you might call a paranormal experience when i was a teenager..

"You might have two things for you were talking about all these free agent quarterbacks are guys you could trade for, you know, technically, Dak Prescott is a free agent. And technically, he wants to be paid. And maybe he holds out now he's coming off a devastating injury. We saw that, but we know what The advance. I mean, we watched Alex Smith, for goodness sake play this past year and you we see these guys come back all the time and have great success. He's in the prime of his career. Now it's going to cost you a ton. It's going to cost you Um ah. Lot in in trade, it's going to cost you a lot. And In salary, you know, right now is a franchise player. The second year of Franchising, and I think it goes up into the high thirties in like 38 million somewhere in there. But like it's getting punitive for the Cowboys and do the Cowboys elect to stay with him and work it out. Will they come up with a solution? Or will he be another guy? That could be a possibility in the year that so many teams need a new quarterback. I e mean, I like that. Don't know how healthy he is. And I don't know that anybody is really going to know that until he gets out and plays and I think with everybody else on Everybody else who is available. You know the 18 or so teams looking for quarterbacks, the draft picks that are out there. Not that a 20 year gonna land anybody. That's all that interesting if you the bears staying there, But I'm just, you know. The total pool is the total pool. I don't know that I'm Don't know that I'm all that excited to take a swing at Dak given All of those things. He's got to come with. But I wouldn't let the price tag shake me away from it. Sylvie. There's all you can always create cap. I'm 100% with you. I deal with it in baseball a lot. You know, it's usually It's usually conversation about pitching. Oh, my God, They're paying how much to this starter and how much to this? Well, it's That's what pitching costs in baseball. Now This is what quarterbacks cost In the NFL. Now whether we're talking about draft capital, whether we're talking about salary cap number, this is what it costs essentially, you boil through a level here. This is what it costs to win football games. Yeah, I believe now. I don't know if while believes as much as I do in deck, I believe back is a win because of guy. He hasn't done it for a long time. But I think he's developed into that. Now we're in a trick box. Coming off that knee and dream you would have to tow look at him and everything like that. But guys do come back from these. The injuries often often right? That's it was what in a C L N M c L total reconstruction of both, I believe is what the injury was. S o. I mean, guys come back from that Teddy Bridgewater played last season and he mean his knee. I don't I don't mean to be. It's a joke about his knee essentially exploded. It was it was a dislocation fracture of his ankle. His old that he wasn't at the ankle injury. Okay, so that's where the ankle was pointing the other way. Good correction back. So what's the prognosis is pretty good, though, isn't it? I mean, I guess. I guess I don't do you Do you wanna be Do you want to be in this quarterback market hung up on medicals. If you're if you're mad, Maggie, and if you're right, you have to be hung up on medicals, But you can't if if it checks out. You gotta roll with it, right? I suppose. I mean you how old is he 26 stack. You can't be older than 26 is easy. I would think he's still a young guy. It feels like forever ago he was singing. It broke on his 27 sippy statement. 27 remember he was a guy that the bears he refused to draft three times in the fourth round when they had 3/4 round picks that year, but it's always spring..
