"Well, I guess why many is already in the right spot, you know, to step up, you have also come in, we can play that position. You have so many talented players in midfield. I'm not really concerned about the fact that if Pogba is not able to play during the World Cup that we have a problem an issue in the middle of the park. We have no I have no control whatsoever. So you have so many talented players that are very confident about that. You are Frank's trademark humility, shining through once again. I've sent this question. One 10,012 times. Oh, okay. Hopefully it gets seen. Start dropping bench, these Premier League legends.

"Bit of fallout from this game. And it's worth remembering, right? He left out Virgil van DIJK, he lost he had Salah on the bench. Again, these are things I think that he's doing, obviously, with a view towards towards the Champions League Final. That certainly more than understandable. He played Thiago, he lost Thiago at halftime travel, set up incredibly except to go with a little back here. Yeah, I thought that might have been your thing. Yeah. I thought there was a pretty big blunder on wolves opening goal as well. If that was like we said to the kids, you say whatever edge group you are in, whatever level, the one thing you say, let never the ball bounce or drop. It's a long cake, it's a goal kick. Kick whatever is a free kick, the ball can never bounce and you bounce it to bounce. I was just struck though by the fact that what Liverpool came in terms of injuries late in the season. In terms of playing all these matches, people will look at them. I've heard people say this, right? Against city, Chelsea, and spurs. Liverpool didn't be any of them in the league. And I think actually, I mean, I guess in the car about cup, of course, and FAQ continues to two drawers. They're the two drawers. Although they beat they beat city in the FA Cup, didn't they? They'd be sitting in the Africa cup and they'd be spurs in the League Cup semifinals as well. So it's not like it's some kind of hacks. But the incredible thing is those 6 draws. Those were the 6 draws of the season, right? Yeah. But I was looking, you coming to January, you're chasing, right? Your Liverpool? You're 14 points behind you at that point. I mean, for you to make up that distance. Just some context here, right? Since January 2nd, which is the day that they drew with Chelsea. They only draw points once, and that was recently that was the game against against spurs when Klopp got all grumpy afterwards and whatever. I mean, you struggled to think, in real time, there were situations where, you know, you and I, we sit here, we do this every Monday and Thursday. We second guess then we play Monday morning quarterback, and we say, well, we could have done this during the day. This part of our job, right? But in the end, they didn't pay a price for any of those decisions. Maybe the spurs game, but I mean, from again, January 2nd to May 22nd, you draw points once. And you come back from 14 points. While advancing to the League Cup final. While advancing to the FA Cup final, while advancing to the Champions League Final. I mean, that's pretty surreal. Well, having two of your while you're having well, you're two best strikers, and another one Roberto Firmino is pretty good. While having those guys in contractual situations as well, because as we all know, they got a contrary in 2023. While having your guru director football or whatever Michael Edwards job was, you know, telling you, oh, look, I'm leaving. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's pretty. If your clock, you can take a lot of credit here. I think. Yeah, completely. I mean, you got to do with the S bonus that we mentioned before was maybe not planned for now. For January, based incredible. I don't think people realize maybe how incredible this season is. Maybe more than the 1819 season when they finished with 97 points and still lost the title by 1.2 city. Probably more incredible than when they won the title for me. Yeah, yeah, completely, completely. With the pandemic, it was a different environment. But this is just incredible. The season they've had. Unbeaten at home in the league, only one defeat of homo season, which is the inter one where they were kind of in control after they won the first leg in Italy. But on top of that gap on top of everything you said is the style of football is the entertainment is all the movement is the trend Alexander role is all the girls from Jota salaman. A tree you like this with all that goals. And yet they slightly behind city in terms of goals code in the Premier League, but overall I think this is they had never scored as many goals in the whole season, these 150 and they still have one game to go. They would have played every single game that the season had to offer. Can you imagine every single game? A big deal. Jared Julian did that a little bit. But that was a different time, even. You know? I was just in this incredible and usually we say, oh, you never remember who finished second. You only remember. We only remember winners, really, usually. But I can guarantee you that in 2025 years time we will still talk about this Liverpool side. Why would they go on to achieve from now on? We will always always mention them almost like if they were winners, even if they were by the way. That line that you said. I agree with you. People say this all the time. Oh, nobody remembers who finished second. It is one of the dumbest things. It is not short in a way. It's also not true. Well, won the 1954 World Cup. The 1954 I will tell you. I know. Do you think who do you think is more a part of history? What does Germany or hungry 1954? I know, but okay. 1974 World Cup. Not many people won the World Cup in 1974. Oh look, see a pattern here, right when it comes to Germany. Sorry. Do we remember that? Or who's more a part of fabric of history or the Dutch side? In the books, you only have the winners. There's only Muppets that there doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. You remember winners. And but this Liverpool team is more than a team that finished second. And you know, I feel for club when I hear him saying, this is the story of my life finishing second. He finished second to Bayern's and when pep was there, he finished second again. He must be he must be sick of seeing pep all the time everywhere in a way, saying that as a joke. But it is true. It would be one of the greatest ever, but it would have been a lot of time second. And he won a Champions League title. And he won the first title for Liverpool in 30 years. Which is great. Exactly. But there's still a lot of second places too. I moved to city now because we talked about the legacy, whatever. In the game itself. Let's do some second guessing here, because the reason you have substitutions is to is to fix mistakes. When I look at the way you had chances, I'm not hanging out away. But this was a game in which I thought I had to silver was ordinary. Yeah, yeah. I thought I was your Zeus, not for the first time. At the back, obviously fernandinho. Because this is last game, and you know it. So you want to almost I genuinely think for an anemia is playing because John stones isn't fit. And you put in my right back. Justin's is fit for 45 minutes then, but not for the whole game. And again when you have a lot of the ball. I think he looked at it and he said, all right,.

"That that's going to happen. Liverpool have to to carry on trying to march towards the Premier League title. City are now in pole position. If city win all their games, they won the league. I think that Liverpool are the quadruple is tough, Ryan. And what I saw in all of the, what's some of the games yesterday? Did you see Miguel Alma run golf? Oh my God. Do you remind me of? It was a goal of FIFA. It was such a goal of a FIFA. Wasn't it? It was so a goal of physics. If I can't remember. It was amazing goal, but I genuinely can't remember seeing that many goals that are actually like that. That trajectory, that angle. Yes. Into the corner like that. But you know what was really what was really good about it from a Newcastle point of art and miggy amaranth point of point. Is that that was tyrant Mitchell we blasted past there. Speed and strength cutting and then to see it from the angle that show it from the angle from the right hand side. In the opening body up and watching the goalie's dive Cebu goalkeeper dive it was and watch the ball just go, it was just like it was fitting and then you know what was amazing Ryan? Because we could see the goal, we could see the gold in real time the whole stadium. Oh my God. Newcastle is rife. I mean, I'm going up there. I was meant to go to Ireland to play golf, but I've said cheer up, come to Newcastle, Newcastle is a place to be, bro Alan sorted it out for me. I'm going to Newcastle to play golf and that because at the moment. What's that 7 games on the spin they've one now? Or is it 6, 6 or 7 on the spin? First time since Bobby Robson, coming in with the pressure that he was under. He has to get some flat. I'm giving him a message. You know what? That's fair because I think that obviously they've had money. Obviously they're going to have a lot more money to spend. They spent a lot in January compared to the Premier League. Signing people like Bruno de mares. Who was on a lot of massive Newcastle was a huge club. Let's say clubs who would have been pushing.

"Who are the two other athletes, sportsmen, if you will, to have ever earned $1 billion in their career. Okay, I'm going to say Jack Nicklaus. Okay. And I'm going to say. Boxer. Is it George Foreman? So the answers are a lot more recent than that. Your golfer is Tiger Woods, got that in 2009. I should have got that. And your boxers Floyd Mayweather in 2017. And also, Chris yarn Ronaldo is always among the top three highest Instagram accounts and things like that. So if you come across that day and you don't recognize it, you should. Cristiano Ronaldo. And they made that they made that really hideous bust of him in Portugal. I think it was in Porto or something. It's like the most hideous. Yes. People who did the Lucy was your ball statue must have also very bad. All right, it's incredible. And finally, just some bonus facts about the Premier League that I thought seemed fun and they could potentially be useful to you at some point in your quiz. On October 17th, 2009, Darren bent squirt a goal that deflected off of a beach ball before going in the net. So what happened during this game is a 16 year old fan had bounced like a red Liverpool beach ball onto the field before the game. And it actually rolled into the Liverpool net and nobody cleared it out. So 5 minutes into the game, when Sunderland player Darren bent played the football into Liverpool zone, he shot the actual soccer ball at the net and it hit the beach ball and went in and Liverpool lost their match, one night. Oh, no, that's so good. Yes. What happened? Yes. People like found the footage of who did it and they narrowed it down and they found it out in like he had to go speak to the mirror and all these things. He was like, I'm so sorry. I didn't know. It wasn't even my beach ball. It just bounced through the stands and I hit it and went onto the field and I don't know why nobody cleared it out. So yes, so that every article I was reading was like, you know what a, what goal deflected off of in 2009? Against Liverpool was a beach ball. Yeah. So Richard Dunn, who was an Irish former footballer who played for Everton, Manchester City, Aston Villa in the queens park rangers from 1996 to 2015, holds the joint record for being kicked out of matches 8 times, and also the record for the most own goals in Premier League history. He scored ten goals. That was Richard. All right, so as I'm looking through records and lists and stuff like that, Lauren. Vinny Jones. Who you might know better as the British actor from lock stock and two smoking barrels, snaps. Absolutely. 60 seconds. So much more. He played as a midfielder for Wimbledon, leads united, Sheffield United Chelsea and the queen spark rangers from 1986 to 1999. He was part of the crazy gang, which was a nickname given by the media to the Wimbledon FC teams for throughout the 1980s and 1990s. And throughout his career, Jones gained a reputation for a highly aggressive and physically uncompromising style of play. And he holds the joint record for the most Premier League red cards in one season. He got three in one season. Damn. And he was the first to do that in 1995, 1996. I'm looking at this. Listen, I'm like, Vinny Jones, that's fun. I was like, is this isn't the same? Isn't it the same Vinny chose? Sidebar. Engineer Josh does like four really good impressions and one of them is. I don't really, I don't think I've heard his Vinny. It's mostly the next time I'm Vinny Jones. Kid? Oh, okay. Pretty good. It sounds just like him. I believe you. Yes. So I have to I'll have to have him treat me to that next time I see you guys in person. It's great. Couple more tidbits. There are several current Premier League teams who are outright owned by Americans. So Stan Kroenke, who's the husband of Anne Walton, the daughter of Sam Walton, heir to the Walmart fortune. Stan owns arsenal. Just owns it. Great. San Crone Gio's arsenal. Liverpool is owned by John W Henry and Tom Werner of the Fenway sports group. They also own the Boston Red Sox. Tom Werner of that group is the Werner in the car sea Werner of the TV sitcom production fame. So like basically Friends enabled him to own Liverpool. Oh, yeah. Weird. And Manchester United is owned by the glazer family. So Malcolm Glazer, who was born in Rochester New York in 1928, also in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But the glazer family now owns me interest united. And by the way, Stan Kroenke, he owns a shit ton of pro sports teams. He owns the opportunity rams, the Denver Nuggets, the Colorado avalanche. And among others, the newly formed Los Angeles gorillas of the Call of Duty league no. It's next baby. eSports come on. eSports is what we gotta worry about next. You mean cod? You mean there's a cod league now? Yeah, we should own a cod league team. Shoot. I guess to get out on the ground floor, I guess. Tens of dollars per season. And then finally close it off on a really good fact. A hat trick in most school oriented sports means a single player who scores three goals in one match. In the Premier League and apparently other soccer leagues too, a perfect hat trick is when a player scores one right footed goal, one left footed goal and one header goal in one match. Okay. Isn't that interesting though? That would be interesting. Especially if you're like right footed, scoring with your left foot is not easy. And it was like, you know, it's really lucky. It's impossible. You know, it's just like, it's like they're crossword puzzles. You know, we have one way of doing crossword puzzles and then they do like an absolutely insane impossible way of doing crossword puzzles. So I think the hat trick thing, it can make a really good see that. Yes. Yes. So I know I threw a lot of sports stuff at you there, but no, that was great. But I so much. I enjoyed doing a deep dive into it. Again, the kits are really fun, the fans are a lot of fun and I can see how you would really get really get sucked into it. Yeah. All right. That's great. Thanks so much. Yeah, of course. And our quiz tonight is called a league of their own. This is a quiz on early 1990s sports movies. So I will give you the year a character or two in a quotation or exchange from the film, and you will name the movie. I have a real pen this time. Excellent. And a whole notepad because Steve felt so bad that his shape had ruined the quiz. Fabric pencils, if you will. His fabric pencils again, this pen does work, so I am feeling good. Terrific. And again, I will give you the year, a character or two in a quotation or exchange from the film and you will name the sports movie. All right. Number one from 1993. Squints. Where did your old man get that ball? Smalls. I don't know. Some lady gave it to him. She even signed her name on it. Some lady named Ruth. Baby roof. Two. From 1996, shooter mcgavin, you're in big trouble, though, pal, I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast. Title character..

"Yeah. So no. So the people who kiss the Stanley Cup, it's not even the real thing. You don't know. I don't know. I touched one. It was cool. It was one of the touch one of them. Yeah. The highlights of my life. So what else you get? Trophy. Also metals. So the champions are given 40 commemorative medals made of silver. They are 2.25 inches in diameter. They can be distributed to the manager, players, and officials as the club sees fit, as long as every player who played at least 5 Premier League appearances during the title winning season gets one. So much like Super Bowl a Super Bowl ring. It's like, you know, the accountant sometimes gets one, and they're like, come on, man. At least they cap it at 40. Here's your 40 metals. You can distribute them accordingly. Yeah. All right. The Premier League Golden Boot is an annual award presented to the leading goal scorer in the Premier League. Since 2021, it has been referred to by its sponsorship name. The Coca-Cola zero sugar Golden Boot. No. Come on. That just a great deal. So you probably for Manchester United has received almost zero golden sugar boots. I'm so proud of him. I should be. In addition to the trophy, winners of the golden Buddha are usually given a thousand pounds for every goal they scored throughout the season to donate to a charity of their choice. Yeah, no, it's like that's nice. So Terry Henry of arsenal has won the Golden Boot on four occasions, which is more than any other player. And Henry is considered one of the greatest strikers of all time in one of the greatest players in the history of the Premier League. So both arsenal and Liverpool each have had 6 Golden Boot winners. So that's kind of cool. Wow. The Premier League golden glove is an annual award presented to the goalkeeper who's gotten the most shutouts or I gotta tell you. In English terms, they don't say shutouts over there. They say, kept the most clean sheets. Oh my God, they're adorable over there. Right? Look at how cute. They are. Clean sheets. They call kerosene paraffin. They're adorable. Since 2021, this is also called the Coca-Cola zero sugar golden glove. So goalkeepers Joe Hart of Manchester United and Peter check with Chelsea and arsenal have each one at twice. So that's also pretty cool. Say the most shutouts during the season. Most clean sheets. Clean sheet. So the Premier League Hall of Fame was established in 2021. Several criteria are taken into consideration, primarily players who have had an exceptional record of on pitch success and have shown significant contribution since the inception of the league in 1992. Other factors are taken into consideration. So players need to have retired before the start of the awarding season. They're only judged on their domestic performances in the Premier League, with no other competitions considered. So if you went to the Olympics and won three gold medals and then your team won the World Cup twice, that doesn't matter. These are Premier League considerations only. Yeah. So their inaugural class for 2021 was Alan Shearer. We mentioned him a few minutes ago. He scored the most goals in Premier League history. He was a forward for the Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United from 1992 to 2006. He was primarily champion once, won the Golden Boot three times, and he was player of the season once. Terry Henry, we also mentioned him, he was afford for arsenal from 1999 to 2007 and again in 2012, won the Premier League championship twice, won the Golden Boot four times and was player of the season twice. Eric Cantona was Ford for Leeds United in Manchester United from 1992 to 1997. He won the Premier League title four times Roy Keane, who was midfielder for the Nottingham Forest and Manchester United from 1992 to 2005. Won the Premier League 7 times. It's also important to note for people who are fans of the show Ted Lasso. The showrunners of Ted Lasso have said that the character of Roy Kent is based on former Manchester United captain and midfielder Roy Keane, who is also known for his temper on and off the pitch, which is very charming. Roy is I think my favorite character on the show. Frank Lampard was a midfielder for West Ham, Chelsea and Manchester United from 1995 to 2015. He won the championship three times. He was player of the season once. And he scored the most Premier League goals from outside of the box on the field. He scored 41 goals. That was pretty good. Pretty crazy. Dennis Bergkamp was a forward for arsenal from 1995 to 2006. He won the championship three times. Steven Gerrard was a midfielder for Liverpool from 1998 to 2015, and of course, you probably know the husband of Victoria Adams made midfielder for Manchester United from 1995 to 2003 when the championship 6 times and his name is, of course, David. Beckham, David Beckham, you've heard of him. Oh, yeah. He has an unusually high voice. Love you to play your football. Loves him. Loves it. A couple of other player names you should know besides these ones who were in the Premier League Hall of Fame. Wayne Rooney, you might have heard of him. He's widely considered one of the best players of his generation. Due to his precocious displays as a teenager, Wayne Rooney was given the nicknames waza and the wonder boy among many other things. From 2002 to 2021, he played for Everton, Manu, D.C. United and Derby County. He is the record goal scorer for both the England national team and Manchester United. He won the England player of the year award four times in 2008, 2009, 2014 and 2015. He's considered to be a stocky player. He's only 5. He's only 5 9. And many of his managers over time have warned him about his fitness on numerous occasions. He has a lot of skill, but said in the off season, he fancied himself one too many pints and bags of crisps and stuff like that. He loves life. He the man loves life. Lane rooty. You see a picture of him you probably recognize him. Michael Owen, who played for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United Manchester United and Stoke City from 1996 to 2013. He was Liverpool's youngest ever goal scorer in May 1997 and in his first full season in the primarily he finished as the joint top scorer with 18 goals. He is one of only 9 players to have scored a 150 or more goals in the Premier League and is the youngest player to have reached a hundred goals. He was also England's youngest player in youngest goal scorer for the England national team in 1998. My friend Sean, who doesn't listen to this podcast, he is a looky likey of Michael Owen, which we learned. We were in England in our Oxford program and many people said things like, are you Michael Owen? And he goes, nope. Super American. And then people will be like, he puts your real look like if Michael Owen. And so one time we all went to one of the sporting goods stores and bought a bunch of England national team jerseys and wore them dinner one night and we pretended that he was Michael Owen. Oh, did he sign some autographs? Yeah. So that was pretty fun. I was like, people would be like, is that? And I'd be like, he doesn't want to talk about it. Oh, don't please leave him alone. He doesn't sing right now. It was very funny, but perfectly handsome guy. I'm looking at this looky liking. Yeah. The real Michael. Yeah, the real Michael Owen. Yeah, a great player. Got a great job, great head of hair. Big square head. Real smart. Awesome. Yeah. And of course, another player you need to know, like you actually should know this guy. Okay. Cristiano Ronaldo. Oh, please. Yes. So he's a Portuguese pro footballer who plays for Manchester United, and he also captains the Portugal national team. He was ranked the world's highest paid athlete by Forbes in 2016 and 2017. He is the first footballer and third ever sportsman to have earned 1 billion with a B, U.S. dollars in his career. And he's still active. Can you guess, can you guess the other two? One is a golfer and one is a boxer. I'll give you that. Who are the two other athletes, sportsmen, if you will, to have ever earned $1 billion in their career. Okay, I'm going to.

"About to soccer ball off his head too well. So good. He's so good at that. Oh my God. Okay. I'm adding it. He's being signed by Manchester United, okay? Wow. But Manchester United's team is so good that Steve, who is a very good player, Kate get any playing time. So what Manchester United might do is decide to loan him out to a team that can give him more game time. So I see. The industry united would still own his playing rights, and they would get paid some of Steve's salary from the smaller team. So this is something that does happen in the TV show Ted Lasso in season one with the character Jamie tart. He actually has a contract with another team and he's sent to Richmond AFC to he's loaned there to get some playing time in. So we don't typically see that in any sports leagues here in the U.S. that they would like no, go from an actual like other team to get some practice time on another team. You sometimes see players being sent up between leagues as if you have a fever, Peter team, something like that from your farm team. Buffalo sabers, NHL team, their HL team is the Rochester Americans. So maybe they would send a player down from the sabers to play for the ameriques for a little bit. And then bring someone up from the Emirates. But you don't typically see that between the same league with the hate each other, right? Yeah, opposing teams. Yeah, yeah. Exactly. Exactly. So some other things about the Premier League, you got to know, you know, some records. So I mentioned at the top, the team with the most titles is Manchester United. They have won 13 times. The most consecutive title wins. Is three in a row. Manchester United did it in 98 99, 99 double aughts and to O one. And they did it again in O 6 O 7 O 7 O 8 and O 8 O 9. So the team with the most wins in total as of December 31st, 2021 was Manchester United. In the team with the most defeats in total as of December 31st, 2021 was Everton. The oldest player to ever play in the Premier League was John burridge, who was 43 years and a 162 days, played for Manchester City, and he played against the queen's park rangers in May 1995. But the youngest player, Lauren, and this is where our bones turn to dust is Harvey Elliott was aged 16 years and 30 days, played for Fulham versus the Wolverhampton Wanderers in May 2019. Oh my God, he's such a baby. It's such a baby. Oh my God. So the player with the most seasons played in the Premier League is Ryan Giggs, GI GGS. He played midfielder for Manchester United in 22 seasons that was every year from 92 93 to 2013, 2014. So he's a Welshman who played 963 games from Manchester United, and he also has the most assists in Premier League history and has 13 primarily winners medals, more than any other player ever in the game. Wow. Another player records no, the most goals scored in the Premier League was Alan Shearer, SHE, AR ER. He scored 260 goals from 1992 to 93 to 2005 O 6 for the Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. So that's some of these records that will never be touched. And you know what? I've always noticed correct me if I'm wrong. You know, football is kind of a low scoring typically aim usually, right? Yeah, it is not uncommon to have a work in the basketball level. No, no. Yeah, exactly. You're not getting like a 108 points in a game. Certainly not. No, yeah. All right. So what do you get if your team's good, okay? First, there's a trophy. So the current Premier League trophy was created by the royal jewelers asprey of London. It consists of a trophy with a golden crown in a malachite plinth base. The plinth alone weighs third or three pounds and the trophy weighs 22 pounds. So it's like 30 inches tall, 17 inches wide, 9.8 inches deep. And the plinth has a silver band around its circumference upon which the names of the title winning clubs are listed. The green of the malachite represents the green field of play. And the design of the trophy is based on the heraldry of three lions that's associated with English football. Two of the lions are found above the handles on either side of the trophy and the third is symbolized by the captain of the title winning team. As he raises the trophy and the gold crown above his head at the end of the season. Wow. Hooray, so much symbolism. Very technically there are two trophies, which are identical, one stays with the Premier League champions and the other is used by the league for various things. Just like there's not one Stanley Cup, there's multiples. What? We don't talk about that either. What? What? I thought there's only one Stanley Cup of drank your beer out of our water. There's one at the hockey Hall of Fame and there's okay, that makes the team gets to have one and then there's one Charles around two. Yeah. So no. So the people who kiss the Stanley Cup, it's not even the real thing. You don't know. I don't know. I touched one. It was cool..

"Me. So the Premier League often referred to as the English Premier League or the EPL. It's actually called the Football Association Premier League limited. That's like its legal name. But it's the top level of the English football league system. So there are 20 clubs within the Premier League. It operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English football league. So the competition was founded as the FA Premier League in 1992 following the decision of clubs in the football league first division to break away from the football league, which was founded in 1888, so that they could take advantage of a lucrative television rights sale to sky coming from ITV. So the Premier League has only been around since 1992. Like in our lifetimes. So yeah, that's recent, yeah. Why is this important? The primarily is the most watched sports league in the world. It's broadcast in 212 territories to more than 643 million homes with a potential TV audience of close to 5 billion people. So 5 sevenths of the world's population watches the Premier League. That's more than Eurovision, Julia. It is more than Eurovision, Lauren. That's why we're talking about it. Shocking. I know, it's shocking. So there are the primarily has 20 teams at ebony given time up in that level. But over since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, 50 clubs have competed in the Premier League. 48 English teams and two Welsh clubs, only 7 of these 50 teams have ever won the title over the last 29 seasons. So Manchester United has won 13 times Chelsea has won 5 man city is won 5 arsenals one three. The Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City and Liverpool of all one one time. But don't worry about remembering that right now. Okay, I won't. So how is it possible for 50 clubs to have competed in a league that only has 20 slots? Yeah. Because of the English football league system. This is also sometimes called the English football pyramid. So this is a series of interconnected leagues for men's association football clubs in England. It also has a couple teams in Wales, also Jersey and Guernsey and the Isle of Man as well. So their system has this hierarchical format that has promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels, allowing the theoretical possibility of a very small club to ultimately rise to the very top of the system. So the exact number of clubs varies from year to year because even at the lower levels, like clubs can leave and join leagues and merge or full altogether. But there's an estimated average of 15 clubs per division, meaning that more than 7000 teams are members of a league in the English man's football league system. So what this boils down to is that a certain number of the most successful clubs in each league can rise to a higher league. That's promotion. And those that finish the season at the bottom of their league find themselves sinking down a level. That's relegation. Does the sound familiar to you now? Those of our friends that also play learned league, that's exactly how this is set up to. So if you finish at the top of your rundle, you may be promoted if you finish toward the bottom of your runway you may be relegated to a lower level below you. And in addition to sporting performance, promotion is usually contingent on meeting criteria that set by higher league levels. So things like having the appropriate facilities and finances and things set in place too. So at the top is the single division of the Premier League. That's level one, often referred to as top flight. And there are those 20 clubs. Below the Premier League is English football league, which is divided into three divisions of 24 clubs each, so you have the EFL Championship, such as level two, the EFL League One, which is level three and the EFL league two, which is level four. And these are all full time professional clubs. The next tier of non league football is called the national league, even though it has league in the name. This has a national division called the nationally, which is level 5. There's 24 clubs. You don't have to remember any of this. I'm just kind of filling this spelling information. The lowest level with a single nationwide league. Then there's level 6. So that's the national league north national league south, each have 22 clubs. And so on and so on. There's level 7 level 8 level 9 level ten and finally level 11, which is the regional feeder leagues. So in the Premier League, the rules for relegation. So Premier League level one, 20 teams, your bottom three teams get relegated. You can't be promoted when you're already in League One, because you're already at the top. The second, the English football league championship, which is level two, there are 24 teams. Three teams get promoted and three get relegated. So the top two are automatically promoted and the next four complete in the playoffs with the winner gaining the third promotion spot. And then your bottom three are relegated. So it goes on and on like this. So in the next level, level three is 24 teams, three get promoted for get relegated. Level four, the English football league two. There's 24 teams, three get promoted, four get relegated. And again, so on and so on, dividing all the way down to level 11. Okay. But what we're talking about here is the Premier League. So there are 20 club teams in the Premier League. And during the course of a season, which usually runs from August to May, each club plays the other team twice. So there's a double round Robin system in place. They play once at their home stadium and once at their apartment stadium. So there's a total of 38 games played. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a tie or a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. So your teams are ranked by total points, and then you have to have some tiebreakers in there so things like full differential scored and then if your points are still equal, teams are deemed to occupy the same position. But if there is a tie for the championship for relegation or for qualification to other competitions, there is a playoff match at a neutral venue. So that's kind of fun. That's kind of exciting. Yeah. So for the 2021, 2022 Premier League. It was scheduled originally to run from August 2021 to May 2022. I should note in December 2021, multiple matches were postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreaks in multiple clubs with many clubs calling for the league to actually shut down through 2022. So following a meeting on December 20th, this involved all 20 Premier League clubs. They made a decision to fulfill their scheduled matches over the Christmas period where it was safe to do so. And clubs were advised that if they had 13 fit players and a goalkeeper, then they should fulfill their schedules. So at this time of recording, they're not quite back up to where they are, especially if you've had some outbreaks within clubs. But they're going to they're going to power through at this point in time. Yes. So 20 teams are competing in the league this season. The top 17 teams from the previous season and the three teams who were promoted from the league below. Just an alphabetical order. Here's who's in this year. Arsenal, they're team nickname is the Gunners. They're from London. Aston Villa, their nicknames are the villains or the lions and they're from Bernie. Brentford, their nickname is the bees. I love them. They're from London. Brighton and hove Albion. They're also known as Brighton. Their nickname is the seagulls or Albion. And they're from Brighton England. Burnley, whose nickname is the clarets, and they're from Burnley Lancashire. Such a British name..

"Was going to they were going to sit in. They just couldn't give up that first goal they did. But I think it's more of what New York City did than what Portland didn't do. Both these teams finished as the fourth seat and their respective conferences as we look ahead to the future. Who do you think's better set up to be better as we move on? New York City. Really? Yeah, Portland's the oldest team in the league. They're the oldest team ever to play an MLS cup. And New York City has the best scouting system in the world behind city footballer. And when you look at the depth that they have, a lot of those players are 1920 21 22, they're going to lose totsy Castellanos, whether it's this winter or it's in the summer. They're going to lose him, but you go on and spend a ton of money for Magnum and these other players. Alejandro, for me, it's New York City. And they have now the backdrop of having been an MLS called champion. And that gives you a different pedigree altogether. That gives you a different level of expectation as a club. And so there is something about coming into this sort of environment and having to go away to New England to Philadelphia. Here in Portland and being able to deliver. That's a different way to go about it. And it's a way that only happens if there is a group that is truly together and that there is a staff that truly believes in what the players are doing and that the players believe in the staff. That tells you that this is an organization that is set up for now and for the future. And why CFC is here to stay. It's not the party that the folks in rose city, soccer city USA wanted, but it will certainly be a party tonight for New York City, FC fans as they celebrate the club's first ever MLS cup title and there it is the trophy lifted high here at Providence park. That's it for us. Let's end it back to the ESPN FC studio. Guys. A lot more reaction than to what happened in Portland on the latest edition of football America, be sure to check that out here on ESPN+. That's it then. That brings us to the end of today's show. "And it's funny because most people in the stadium are making noises like they thought he was going to miss. But you know he stepped up and he did it. It was a bit of a contentious decision, but this is football sometimes. It was nowhere near city's best performance for the season. As is the case with Chelsea, I'm sure we'll talk about Liverpool to a certain extent, but the fact is, I've got the three points, and at this time of the season, that is crucial. There's a sending off as well. Yeah, we're talking about the setting off in a moment. But first the penalty. No, I don't think it was a penalty. And it's not a penalty for putting your arm in the air. You're not allowed. You're not this filed from putting your arm in there. Yeah. And I think it was my tenure. It looked clearly. When I first saw it, I actually think it was a little lower than that as nedham said it could. You could argue a few zoomed in on it probably saved high up. I just necked a bit of the arm, but I mean, come on. So I think that honestly I think when via looked at that, I know the technicalities of it. But it's clear and obvious to me that it hasn't really hit his arm and so I don't think it was. But even if it just Knicks his arm, Don, that's still handball, isn't it? Is it? No, it's not. No, it's not, because it didn't hit his army. It hit his ribs and then it hit him on the sleeve. The sleeve is not meant as deemed to be apparently it's got to be arm. So it was never in a million years. I've not seen anyone on social media today at the Premier League said he was left with nowhere to go because in his opinion it wasn't apparently so how John moss got that wrong and then var had a look at it and they conquered with John moss and thought penalty. It's not a pedal in a million years. No chance. As Craig mentioned, proceeding that, of course, what was down to ten men, Jimenez sent off, what do you make of these decisions? Well,.

"Off injury as there a problem. Because he's had time to get a man and get him up to speed again, or is he thinking about all the games coming up and he's trying to give him time? Let's time that they don't really have. They need to get the strongest team out there again. And they need to try and get some momentum because this was another per performance and only ludicrously stupid decisions from leads allow Chelsea to take three points. Otherwise the besetting here even followed off the league and it doesn't seem it doesn't seem more than a month ago we were saying right. They're in control, the rest of plane cut job, the solid back, they've got some injuries, but they've shown they can overcome that at the moment they look really wobbly. They do look really wobbly. And yeah, they're very, very lucky to take three points to do. It's just consistent. What we've seen of Chelsea over the last couple of weeks, obviously against West Ham, the Champions League as well Nate. From a defense that we're all waxing lyrical about to one that looks with Craig says wobbly. Yeah, it certainly does not that way. And it came out nowhere as we said that. I think given the fact that I think they kept probably 40% of their games have been clean sheets may be higher. So then all of a sudden see them conceding three against west time, see them concede and in the mid week in the Champions League. And even two here to a lead side that aren't exactly like full of confidence, if you look at it, you know, it's a big surprise, but you know this is the nature of football, isn't it? You can't really be that dominant for an entirety of a season. The things which have been good for them, there's not guarantee you'll be able to carry on throughout the year with that. And teams now, as they look at this, they'll be more encouraged. I think whoever goes up against them next, they'll start to see little chinks in the armor and they'll be encouraged to be thinking, well, this is what we need to do to give ourselves a chance. But the key thing is, as is always, you just have to be clinical. And I think for leads, there definitely were that today, and especially that second goal, the solved injection of tempo and the way they delivered that to Chelsea, like, that's a sign. I think the teams are going to be playing against them. Obviously, Chelsea's still a very, very good side. But it just shows again that no team is perfect and every time we want to annoy a team has been the best at something before you know what they brought back down to reality. Chelsea third favorite's now Don. Yeah, they are done. And I think there's two or three things going on. Thomas Tucker had a little argument with Andreas Christensen, and he's saying his contracts on the table all been agreed. You know, he's talked to walk by son in the contract, he's saying and he hasn't really goes been linked away with buying Munich wanting to pay him 400 grand a week in Real Madrid. I'm not sure where they're getting their money from. They're midweek, he played Sal on the left hand side as a left wing back. So obviously let's try to fit salads that left hand side because chill wells and miss as well. Then you'd take cante and coverage your side. You know, they are going to be a little bit weaker. And would you Chelsea buy their standards? I think when you look back, you look back the last three or four years, Liverpool and man city have been the standout teams and Thomas Tuchel's first year in the Premier League full season in the Premier League. You can see that just off the likes of Liverpool and city. City, of course, registering a victory as well today there were in action against a wolves far from convincing. Wasn't it from Pep Guardiola's side,.

"Or do you feel like you did in a sense that if you hadn't been blessed with the ability to play football? And of course, the work ethic and all these stuff that goes with it to make it professionally. If you had simply focused on studies, I mean, obviously you achieved a lot academically relative to most English pros. But who knows? Maybe do you ever feel like maybe I could have gone to a better school, which would have led to a better university? Maybe it would have been a Professor of some such right now. Maybe I could. Does that thought ever enter? Does that thought ever enter your mind? The opportunity cost, the football gave you a ton, right? But obviously you could do them or delay something for you. You could go back to university. You could go to university now. I suppose if you wanted to, right? Yeah. I think that's a good question. And I do look back and I wish I had a degree. I don't know what the degree would be in. But the wish for having it is just I don't know, maybe it's like an ego thing because I was on the path towards achieving that anyway. And the fact is looking back the 16 years of how does a professional were life-changing for myself, my direct family, everyone, every single bit of it. And to think that maybe I could have traded that off some more like a status thing in terms of being a Professor of whatever. I don't know. I was good in school. It wasn't like Sir Isaac Newton or anything like that. So I'm not gonna say like many people. Listen, playing football as a profession for 16 years in the Premier League championship, MLS, internationally, whatever. It's a real privilege. That's the 1% the type thing. And I enjoyed every second of it looking back, even through the office of times because it changes your perception on things even. I wouldn't be here talking to you guys. And so many other people I wouldn't have seen all the coaches that were all the same. And all let's say for the continued just doing what I thought I was supposed to do by going to university in studying economics because I did mass business that is an IT for my levels, you know? This football thing, it was a true true guest. I'm still probably reaping the rewards now to be honest. No, but maybe you would have invented the Tinder app before somebody else. And then you'd be like, yeah, we'd be working for you right now. It's been a privilege..

"Within football, when have you made it? Because when you think about the way the football is, how essentially, you know, you don't need to be rich to play football throughout most of the world. If you can sign a professional contract, which changes the changes the life of yourself and your family, forever. Does it matter that you didn't make it into a first team? Because in the past, it was always a case of psychologically you've only made it when you've played for two seasons, three seasons, hundred games, this that and the other. But if you're now able to move your whole family and you've changed everything based on the money that's generational. And you're away. What does that mean? True. If you end up playing link two, this is not life-changing for your family. Good morning, you earned 2000 a week, 1500 a week, but this is not a Premier League contract. I think there's a slightly different way of looking at it. And maybe this is what made him, right? Young people all start at different starting points. So if you come from a middle class background with parents who really push education and so on, and you give something up on the education side to play football and you don't make it as a professional and it delays your educational side or whatever, you could argue that even if you do play in league two for a while League One, you haven't really made it. By the same token, if you come from a broken home in a very deprived area, just by going through the system, even if you don't play professional football and you leave or you just sign your youth country in 19, you're out of the game. You're probably still better off than you might have been where you grew up if you've been hanging out on the street corner and not going to school anyway. In case it's kind of, but added a bit of nuance today compared to when I was playing was that in terms of academy football that was never really that much money that was available then. But now you could be in the system because it goes up to 23s and you could have earned millions without blame for the first team. That's the thing. An academy contract. If you sign a pro at say a man city or at Chelsea or stuff like this, even though it might not necessarily set you on the path to become a professional footballer elsewhere or for your team, you've made life-changing money. So I think that's why there's so much investment with agents and parents doing everything that can to make sure that the kid gets this opportunity and so on. Because it's hard to begrudge them that because you could be some players who have seen over the years. If they were to leave a city or whatever in the academy, to go on loan, they'd go to try and play their first ever games on a professional pyramid. And they'd be earning the most money if anybody in the football club. If they're going to loan to the championship, lead one league to and that system is not, but that's where we're at right now. So the academy system has changed a lot. It's brutal for the kids. I mean, Nathan obviously never got released, but he would have had a lot of friends who got release and that's brutal and some never come back from it. Never told some do a lower level, some go back like the can rise or others and still make it. But the question I had neither is like, there was a point a conversation between you and your parents of how fucking you get because I remember when I was 17 and I was in the squad with the first in the club, I was playing under 19 team, which was in the top division in France. But then I was also in this court for the first time that we're playing the four division with training and some games that I played with them. And my dad basically said brutal to be fair, I love I did now but he said, listen, you're never going to make it in the gun. So if it's for you to play fourth or third division in front, there's no point. Better go and study and have a proper job. And that's basically where my aspirations and my hope of becoming a footballer are 17 pretty much stops. And in fairness, he was probably right. I don't think I could have made it higher than fourth, maybe third division at best. And so my question to you was, did you have that shot with your dad and your dad said, okay, I think we can tell that now it looks like you're going to go to the top and that's worth it, because then is it worth it to push your son and then he ends up playing in the national league no offense, nothing wrong with the international league? But it's not the same, let's be honest here. I think it depends, I think it depends on the parent and the child because for some children whatever. Maybe the money they'll earn just at any level in professional ranks is more than what they think they could earn just in general life anyway. But for safe for me personally, I think I was lucky because I started so early. So I made my debut just before I turned 18. So I went in full time, but I was still doing my a levels, which is like junior college or whatever in America. So I was the educational side. We still happening as I was progressing. If I were to finish my education and I still wouldn't have been anywhere near the first team, then maybe questions could have been asked but then instead. I played a couple of seasons, and then I finished my education to the call is like, do you now do you quit Manchester City's first team to go and go to university? Or do you just stay in the first team and continue playing in the Premier League? It's like, well, that one kind of looks like. Yeah, exactly. But final question for me to rob this because it is an interesting conundrum, right? You gave something up. Academically..

"It's Smith road Craig, the most underrated youngster in the Premier League, how high is the ceiling for him? I think he's a good player, but I think I'm not sure the ceilings is high for him as for likes of a fell forward and maybe one or two hours. Marcus Rashford who has just coming back into the side. But he's a good player. There's no doubt about it. And he's made an impact. So we'll see. Cool, this is depressing. Who was what was sorry, what was the lowest moment of your career and how did you turn things around? Well, because I'm going to you first. Mine was interviewing and asking about the Super Bowl. I'm going to go with the 95 96 season really blew that lead. Right. Top of the Premier League. How did you turn that around? Moved to West Africa. Exactly. He jumped ship. Steven? Listen, hillsborough, obviously. Yeah. Goes without saying. But I'll tell you what. When I went to notch county as an assistant under our candle and he got sacked two months later. "What would for not having the foresight to pick a coat that is able to take united where they need to be. And, you know, Oliver Sasha is just not equipped to manage man united. Really isn't that it's quite sad that the weekends are watching being humiliated and really cured by the man city fans after being ridiculed humiliated by the local policy. Is a good guy, Oli is not he's not a nasty guy. He's not somebody that would fall out with people. Ultimately he's not for the job. It's like having students at university have been being taught by secondary school teachers. Is this not cut out from the job at man united? You look at the fixes that are coming up, Steve, does it even matter? There's damage already been done. Well, well, the damage has been done, yes. And it does matter, particularly, you look at the Chelsea game and it don't get humiliated again. So, yes, it matters. The way his team plays between now and the rest of the season basically will depend on how long he stays in the job because if they get humiliated at Chelsea. Right. But can be no reason. You know, you won't be, I don't think you'll be able to tell them again and say, well, there's nobody to take over and there's no. Can we say that after Liverpool there? They get humiliated against city and that'll be that. They did get humiliated. But we knew we knew that it's going to take something extraordinary for the glaciers to suck them. But surely, I felt embarrassed and the trot against your three main rivals has to be the last straw. Surely. You can't come up with another reason to keep okay? Here's the thing for me. This is how far Manchester United's bar has fallen. Keep in mind we talk about a Manchester United definition second last season. We no longer talk about whether Manchester United can compete for the title or major titles. We barely talk about whether Manchester United to go to finish top four. Our discussion know around only going to switch our future is whether they're going to get embarrassed again. That's how far Manchester United has fallen. The fact that we have in this conversation is evidence enough. That result of his death. Paul Pogba, meanwhile, and for the rest of the calendar year, Mark, of course, when it comes to January, he'll be open to discuss and sign a new contract with another club. Are we anywhere near that situation? Well, first of all, it could be out for two months like saying, I don't particularly in Iceland miss him, I think it actually helps. Are they going to solve share they started this? That's not a big decision. It has to make. We know that it doesn't like making VPCs. So that one's taken care of. When it comes to January, yes, you can talk to the clubs outside the Premier League. United constructs will equal a lesson but they're not going to sell them in January. They think they can ride it out and keep them to the end of the season. But I think that's a stupid way looking at it. If somebody comes in with a knockdown off of a poker in January, they should take it because even if he wants to stay next summer, he's not worth keeping. Is a great player pop in a very good scene. He's not a great player team, but it's constantly struggling, and you know, we've had this conversation for the last 5 years now. Nothing changes. It's ball pop a great player wrong club. "So let's say credit to them that good at the moment and with in charge like he's easing scared to change something. You can read a game very well and the way that the team play. I think stevie was blue before you know it. Seems like they're in second gear but they might not be really that just controlling the game like the. That never really looked distressed. They've got solid three center by scrape midfield in front of them and they have a huge throw front with q. So you know at this moment for me personally. Chelsea look the best side and the premier league. We just saw the odds. The odds suggests that manchester city are still the oddsmakers favorite to win. But you agree with what nadim says chelsea right now the best team we've seen in the premier league team. I don't wanna play tomorrow and the premier league chelsea. I wouldn't play city one city for me going forward lucas short on ideas. I mean mindset. He really team. They got one shot on target home. That's that's not a title one insight if you asked me chelsea looks automatic right now. They look as the planning place they know. Exactly what is it that they're supposed to do what your role is individually and then as a group and it all looks to be in cruise control where the balls are going to be worthy. Movements are going to be where the goals are gonna come from. And you're thinking okay. If you didn't watch this game and you say three nothing chelsea you would the house that look at school right. One of the attacking players had scored the goals came from somewhere else. And that. just kinda shows you. They're more ways for chelsea to win matches than you would think but most of it comes from the structure of the team right now automatic. This team is winning. And they're loving it. Frank anybody close to chelsea right now from what we've seen so far. Well you don't know. Knicks knicks knicks. Weekend we'll see you know with manchester city was going to happen. Tactically is gonna worried between to and guacamole is going to be very very interesting. I think chelsea is on fire right now but football is so much about details that something can can change very very quickly but yeah the the best right now but the season only studied. We know how important winter's going to be. So yeah the the the favorites right now but he can change very very quickly. So but what. I saw today when i see when i chuckled. Cba what is capable of doing. And i just want to say i see. I see that defenders can do stuff that front. When i saw the ridicules goal where i don't see strikers doing defending defending stuff you know like ali marino tackling in sixteen. Never seen that iago. What about me. what did i do. It was a personal. It's i know very quickly. He was at one disagreeing with him. Right not me. I didn't do anything. I'm here just needed. We disagree with the love of defenders. You there is there is there is. There are two teams in the teams. They're the defenders and the attackers know that we against the attackers. So he's why he swam attacking you speaking of attack Frank thinking right now san diego silva play the way that he did today at least at thirty six years old for chelsea well. There are many many things that price after. Think about especially about to hurl but also check asifa one about ramos. Have you heard about romo's lately you know. I don't know if he's still up. There is some question marks Well we still have question marks. Oh about three at front really. We're going to talk about that. We're gonna talk about penalties as well. but chagas. Sita is is is absolutely fantastic. We see about renaldo how lifestyle works. But i think it's going to be on. Wednesday is going to be thirty seven. The way works the way things football lives. it's drinks. Football is absolutely amazing. Absolutely amazing level.

Romelu Lukaku Is Flying at Chelsea

"Will stop by talking about the big game in the premier league this weekend. It is spurs against chelsea chelsea up big favorites in this one and not just with the oddsmakers put also with our panel to it is a clean sweep on the panels predictions. All of them have gone for chelsea to score two goals in this game and come out as winners when we talk about goals. Lukaku has four goals in full games for chelsea many expect him to be top scorer this season. But did you expect him to hit the ground running like he has craig yeah that actually entails needed. A strike hit the ground running. That's why even out and paid the big bucks could l. afford to you know how slow style to the season. Then be playing catch up. So i expect them to start well. Because he's the peak of his career is coming off a great season and that talia again all the heroes. You didn't have much breast and overstays false game was against off smokes this because they do defending So yeah i. I absolutely expected them to gwen show. Aside with structure with a way of playing with some really creative attacking players that can be rotated behind them on a very good manager. Who knows what he wants so for me. It's not a surprise

Christian pulisic is not only your best player he asks happens to be the symbol to all konkan calf for what is this new generation of stars. The man just want a championship title when you talk about the national team and how far they can go. The conversation starts and ends with christian pulisic so you don't have them for arguably the most important game of this atop the very first one because as we've seen in previous editions it doesn't matter what country you're if you start off on the wrong foot the us showed it lasts. Ted Lasso: Lessons on Leadership From a Fictional Character

"I for anyone who has the unfortunate fate of not having watched head lasso yet. What are you even doing people. How would you describe the character of ted lasso. So i think ted so is it shouldn't be a serious character right. This is a college football coach from kansas. Who is going over to coach. Manage in the english premier league. The whole setup feels absurd. Which i think is why the character seems to work so well because this guy is a. He's folksy. he has these things he will say. I mean come on. Sam was more open than the jar peanut butter on my kitchen counter. That's right y'all don't know. I like to keep the peanut butter open. That way whenever i walk back and just stick my finger and yet he has this inner goodness that i think when when he comes across people that they seem to react to you coaching football make. You are a legend for doing something. So i mean it's meno murdy well you know. I've heard that tune before. But here i am still dancing. Ted last. So is the quintessential mid western kindness guy. You know a guy who wants to do well in the world treat other people the right way and just kind of live life with optimism and kindness and all those like grape characteristics that we'd all like to have. Yeah i think it really is his relentless optimism. That wins you over in the show. Is there a particular scene in the series that you think really captures that element of his personality. You know i was thinking about this. In the first episode. He's gone over to england. He's been introduced to the media. He talks to the team. And everybody's obviously it's not going well and then him and coach beard kind of redecorate the office. They put up the john wooden pyramid of success. They put up. All these american touchstones like muhammad ali poster in the miracle on ice poster all in the office. And then roy kent the kind of the you know. The quintessential english footballer. He comes in the office and he calls him ronald mcdonald and i think he uses an expletive and then he leaves the office and ten lasso goes he thinks may now wait. We win them over if he thinks he's mad. Now wait until we win them over.

"I think the of now what organize they've got a belief about them so there could be a side challenging for europa leaks book. I think come the end of the season. I agree and i'll pass on to you after is you're going to play in europe as well and the signings. What do you expect jesse and gardens going back to unite. I'm whether they've tried to get him on. Permanent did and could not do it. Because there were priced out or they don't want to come back at the note. But you sign ariella in gold and i seventy for your first levin this is it pretty much man. And i'm just a bit surprised. After such a great season dadi didn't try to push a estevan case. Easier when you get hundred million for one of your labor and and just try to establish themselves in that top. Six tried to get enough depth in squad to be able to play well in europe and and domestically you have looked at the history of the owners that and. That's the reason why i haven't spent any money true. Yeah i get that. I think we've west tom as well. There's seems like most is if a team does well going into the next season. Feels like you. Have you have to strengthen because everybody around you strengthening because not everybody would be happy with where they were the season before. It's time to essentially keep the same starting eleven whereas you see everybody around you may be performed. He wants to achieve the same things as you investing in more players you know investing in place and so on. It's difficult to look at them. And say i'm sure that we just as successful this year because it feels like as i say all the people stepping forward but the league the europa league of deal sorry is the conference in the conference league or european. Is that what is no. You're you're in so in the league. Playing those games on on thursdays and then having to play games on sundays. Like i've been through. That is a slug and you need so many places to be on board and to be playing for long testing periods of time she wants to be successful in competition and in the premier league so is going to be a tough task for them and maybe some investment later on the window but i think they will need that if they are to try and console the six or seven. Because like we're talking about awesome spurs having to bounce back in looking at leases and things like that and we didn't talk about which was not mentioned yet in terms of the top three the three. They were promoted from the championship last year. The ones lookout for which i think is the most interesting to me. He's brentford because they come up with a certain style of play a very large confidence about what they're doing. They're not coming up thinking that that this will be tough for them. Having one hundred percent belief that they're going to be successful. We've what they do at this level and that might end up being a good thing or it might end up being the worst thing in the world possible. So i'm I'm very interested to see how they do to see that model work. It is level for a long period of time instead of say winning the first two games of the season being soccer league. And saying this is it. We've cracked it. Yeah that's a good one because we saw we know rich When they came up and try to play the same way as they did and showed naievty. Defensively isn't necessarily going going down. Well nourishment very good applied out from the back and they continue to try and do on the ball so it was always going to be a problem for brentford. I saw them in the in the championship. Last season there were good side manager. That knows what he's doing. They've got some good players they've got new plays in as well. The center forward goes last year. Who will be full of confidence I think like includes one or two problems. I think they'll do well to survive relegation but they will cause teams problems and they're another new stadium that last year. They didn't have it for this year. Be a stadium that will have fans and other. It'd be great. Well let's see how this season panel bows. I think he's quite exciting to of probably the most competitive surveys for a long time with those those top four maybe top five to six and then even the bottom as we said.

"I think going to city when you signed yet on sancho and often von in the central sir window pretty impressive and we set on. Paper are a really good team. We've allocated as well the pressure on sasha. Because he knew he did himself and mccolgan was a bit surprised. That's pretty that way for him to get new did but certainly now the team that he has on paper robo is pretty impressive and if you will have to be at the level of that team if he wants to deliver trophies absolutely he's got to get the best out of popo that's for sure where we're wherever he wants to play whether it's in a two or three he's gonna get the best out of pulp over because he's still from one of the best midfield players in the world is going to get the best out of the white. Please go gonna make the white players with its rash food with sancho whether it's greenwood who every place in those white he's got to get them better tactically in terms of plane higher up. The field and wind seems a plane with a low block. And they're making sure it's that compact they're gonna find ways of breaking through that rather nobody's going to speak to get the ball and i think they've got to make sure that whoever plays at centre food with its cavani with its marshy with rochford that they're willing to running behind the hasn't been the case when teams defend quite deeply against them even when teams deeply. You still have to. Mike runs in behind and they didn't do that. Enough met united when teams set the. That's where social is gonna improve his team. I think you'd be to see how he plays an who plays. And where do you can you play. Santio caveney rush for bruno. Poke bar and only have one of material mukta mini holding or do you have to play with with amac tohmeena every time and then see what you do with the others. The it sounds like they're going to go with just one six. That's what it sounds like. If they're gonna go for say one. Six to eight like hoglund. Sundays both play. I think that sues poker probably more than fernandez because it's still now element of having to come comeback with that but in something that you would say nothing. That's exactly right in terms of being able to stretch a game. Because sometimes i think as a team you can look good but you can look good playing in front of the opposition. If you don't have the threat and behind you'll never be able to really have this stuff shores as well. I think with place that they do have when they all like that. And they are more dynamic. I think they do look a beth aside. If somebody stretches the game may creates more space for us on. Sundays creates most base for essential coming show and as the defender. You don't know whether you coming on going but when you know in front of you. Easy to defend against in united sounds like social is trying to go more front foot with his approach but almost get rid of some of that conservative thinking way used to like the to sixties and so on and maybe because he's brought in a variety of things can probably defend better one v one than other people so maybe they will be more open but i suppose the more tests will be in saying. This is what you're gonna do but in a month two months time it starts not working really go back to what he was doing beforehand. And then if that's going to be the case who's going to be missing out and not pressure pressures really gonna get to ramp because you know we talk about the fight. They signed that deal. Nothing mark kim was saying the biggest issue is the length of time which it was. When you look at the monitors who were onto your deals. And i get that i get that but yet today you know. This guy is a manager of manchester united and they need to be winning stuff to be manchester united when they're not this iteration of them isn't this isn't united. I think with the place that they brought in trying to make that statement. So i think they will try and be more attacking. Sposato test will be like if you if he's not going to social have him to be able to keep it consistent. Say this is what we're going to do and we will find success. Even if he's not here right now sunshine was one of yours. Before i won't. I won't go into the to see to see him with the richer birds show. Why does that. How crucial by both of you will he be in that team. Because he's young and We've seen what happened at the euros in the final which was very unfortunate for him. The price tag the expectations of even just him coming back to england and not just the other clever of manchester but just coming back to england with this big reputation of being one of the most exciting talented young players in the whole of the viewer up. Really so how much. How much pressure is he. Also under he's gonna be under a lot of pressure but what he brings to mention. I think is the they've got players with pace centers go pace as well but what. He's also is that and the ability to go past people in our is rochford. Hasn't got that ability records great when this space running behind in this space to run with the ball at pace. I think greenwood's little bit similar. He's got a bit more. I think technical ability than registered sancho takes up to another notch and. That's what i meant. City breitbart greeley because he can do that inside areas and that's why central is being brought to break down the opposition when they sit the state impact. And that's what teams struggle to do in the premier league's for mentioned city with their Haven't always done it into against chelsea in the champions league final because they didn't have anybody to go pulse people with the ball met united when teams dropped deep. Now they've got apply that can go past people microsoft's foot by the way who had his shoulder surgery. Who when well we'd be missing for ten to twelve weeks. We all agree that the top four won't be anybody else than city united liverpool z. Not for me for me now. So about the rest then. Why buy alexa team. Dusk comes so close them in the last two seasons even unfortunate really not to make a top four first season the pandemic last season. I think maybe the ethica and they're running in the africa today of the ball but it was still went down to the last game of the season where they could've finished finished up four where you see them very interesting signings but the loss of fun could be very costly even if they go and sign. Yeah i think so. I see them as being. I think very very good football team. But i think sometimes some of their success even though there's a lot of good player that comes from them so that comes from say coal play from traditional big type teams looking at last year there was a significant level off the pace and chelsea were off the pace and as a consequence lester played really well and they told output unity but when those teams gained momentum. You seem like it was harder for less to be able to continue with that. I don't know they had injuries. Ultimately you know it's a thirty game season so you need to try and have some level of consistency throughout that to be able to finish in the top four. that's why certain teams in essentially another teams. Don't but i think less capable of beating anybody on that day but he just at this moment in time doesn't feel this like the the teams who we're talking about here four teams who we think can win a league. I don't think that this season can win a league with the team in the sense that they have so when you have four teams. You're capable of doing that. They're the ones who will always favor to finish in the top four because they're in a different race and if you lose race you end up being in the top four whereas falesa trying to finish and so forth More of their goal See i think..

The hurricane is now officially handed transfer request but made donna. Livia where he wanted to leave. The cemetery was hoping that the club will go. There could be a quick transfer. And maybe now he felt it was better fame to move away from spurs and continuous carrier. Some words let's money. Let's talk contract yours. How much is he going costs. And who can afford him so hurricanes got three years left on his current contract. Uh spurs he turns. Twenty eight at the end of july and the price is pretty straightforward. I think he's one hundred and fifty million pounds. This is why it is the problem our weekend and his agent with harvey's right don't want to send to any other english clubs no rival clubs the only idea for them if they were to go and it's someone could pay.
