"Not in Czech artillery was basically the Aspen of Bolivia. Martin chuck Adele was covered in 18,000 year old glacier. Skiers came from all over the world to race down the slopes, and the local believing scarce flock there too. Don't tell Mendoza, so the picture of Marin Chaka there when he was 9. But it wasn't until he was 17 that he made it up to the mountain. His father worked there, operating a ski lift. Most of them was memories of that trip are blurry. But he does remember getting altitude sickness, the first time he climbed the mountain. I was affected by the altitude the first time. That night I wasn't feeling well. I had to drink coca tea to get better. By the time he was 21, both he and his brother adolfo were working at the ski resort. This was in 1981. The ski resort had been around since 1939. It was established by Polish scurry, greul poznansky, who lived in Bolivia. In terms of altitude, it was the highest ski resort in the world at over 17,000 feet above sea level. In fact, at one point, the resort's restaurant was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest restaurant in the world. The weather on that on track was a deal for proficient skiers. They actually made it to challenging temperatures they face in future competitions. And this would shape a generation of competitive skiers. For Don Samuel, working on Martin Chaka was an adventure. It was where he learned to ski. Just like the guy racing down the mountain of the picture he remembers as a kid. I mean, you know, I was in the social media sale of years here in Colorado, where we came Bolivia. I was taught by a man from the United States who had skied in Colorado. He lived here in Bolivia. We climbed up every morning around 8 a.m.. He put on loud music and up we went into his automobile. Duncan was father also loved skiing. It was something they both had in common. Let's keep them in. My dad also encouraged me to learn to ski. He would tell me, son, you have to practice. You have to go to the highest mountains. And I did, because it made him happy. Sadly, in 1985, when Don Samuel was in his mid 20s, his father died. While he was up in mountain characte. He has as well available. I mean, it seems to me that he may have slipped down because his eyesight may have failed him. Don Samuel continued to work in ski mountain Chaka, but he also became an expert of mountain climbing. I could hear the confidence in his voice as he told me he was a person people came to for climbing advice. I mean, I said, me. I was training people to climb other mountains of Bolivia. And I was the one who would tell them if they were ready to climb higher mountains or not. If I said no. They later thanked me when they realized that they were not ready to climb my high mountain. This year. Margaret is here in the United. States doing some well was happy with his life on Martin Chaka daya. He continued to work at the ski resort, and he trained every hike or resident or tourists that wanted it to climb up to mountain Chaka. But then that aids in year old glacier started to melt. There was a laboratory in Martina, and in the 1990s, scientists are predicted that the glacier would be gone by 2015. But to their surprise, global warming moved a bit faster than expected. By 2009, the glacier was completely gone. Without the glacier, the snow that falls on Martina doesn't see frozen. Without snow on the slopes there was nowhere to ski and to skier stop coming. The disappearance of the snow also affected local communities that depended on the glacier for drinking water. It was also an issue for hydroelectric plants. Plants that generate a power for the cities of La Paz and elato were done somewhere else family lives..

"What do you. What do you give them to to give to the publishing companies right so so before that it starts with like. How does this kernel of an idea come about. And basically i'd i'd been dating with an idea that i wanted to write a a serious book on magic for the public. I wanted to write a book that lets us peer behind the curtain at what makes magicians tick and then i read a couple of books that that really changed. Trajectory from one is how music works by david byrne musician and this is his love letter to music. Is th- really great. Because it doesn't it's not for music lovers it's not four musicians it's for anybody and it's a book that's kind of his testimony to what he loves about music and how he made records. It's the things. He loved about touring. It's how he wrote his biggest hit songs. It's his failures. It's his favourite musicians. It's a little bit of everything it's a. It's like a hard book to describe. And i wanted to write. How music works for magic. That's what i wanted to do. And that helped me crystallize my idea. The other book was a book called seven days in the art world and once again. I'm not an artist. I'm not an art dealer. I'm not an art auction ear. But this book gives you seven metaphorical days in the art world. So i know that the artists are the author spent months and months and months researching and scouting out things for the book but it's a metaphorical seven days. The first day is at an art auction nearing house. So you find out how the meat grinder of art auctions and then. The next day is in an artist studio. She goes to jeff koons studio. And all these damian. Her studio and another day is a museum. Curator's day in the life of so by the end of this book. You have a really good sense of how the art world works and again. I don't know much about the art world. I'm fascinated by any craft done at a big level at a at a green high level. And so that this book is my attempt to get us there with magic so you say. It's a peek behind the curtain. But i assume that you're not getting into the realms of secrets and exposure. Yeah that's right Nothing is really exposed in terms of tricks. I mean i. I speak frankly. And i don't shy away from method and some things that that the reader needs to know about. But it's all in the service of gaining and deep appreciation for magic. You know damian. When i went to write this book when i finally did sell it. I went to my friend. Joe poznansky had several books on the times bestseller list. And he's just a beautiful writer. Sportswriter typically i said. What's your advice i mean. I'm just feeling overwhelmed. I could. I could see myself spending five years writing in circles and he said here's what you do figure out what your core thesis is your premise of your book. One sentence and write that sentence on a piece of paper and then tape it to your monitor so that every step of the process when you're overwriting when you're underwriting when you've got writer's block when it's all flowing beautifully when you're doing interviews you are staring at every sentence you right at that. Core premise and my core premise was. I want to deepen people's appreciation for magic and magicians. That's it that's what i wanna do. I want deepen people's appreciation for magic and magicians and i think of it this way damien..

Denial of reality continues. So you have to love that That's a lot of fun. Of course the mind boggling Ridiculousness of all people on the left is just staggering. What was the thing. I was reading about susan serandon yesterday. There all pissed off at her because she didn't wanna hold her nose and vote for hillary clinton which would have caused something else to happen in something else now they now they want to cancel susan serandon which i say good because as as insane as all of this is the only way it's going to stop is when they get a taste of their own medicine when when they start eating their own or continue. I guess eating their own. Then maybe there's a chance for everybody else because that's the only way this is This is ever going to end some on. The left lashed out at her. After the supreme court approved a pro-life law in texas that places new restrictions on abortion with everything going on in texas and soon in other states. It's a friendly reminder that susan serandon can f- all the way off lau not just partially that's according to tony poznansky and a you know tend to really pay attention to tony poznansky stuff. Tokyo's and yeah. I don't think there's anybody who doesn't guy a girl pat. Tony pose nancy. yeah. I don't think tony wants to wanna personal prevalent right. Go ahead answer that. Please do not use gender language to address every doesn't thank. You can't even spell pose. Nancy centrist democrat. Ir has been pointed at her and other far left democrats who refuse to hold their nose and vote for hillary clinton. What does that have to do with the texas abortion law. I was just googling when you said that he was talking about. I found an article from two thousand seventeen says that hillary clinton would have been a very dangerous president. That's what susan serandon said at the time. And she regret voting for jill stein. This is a two thousand seventeen article. He's just when you think. Oh my gosh. we've had that before. Wait what she didn't want to vote for hillary so she must have found a cons- more conservative. Thought about her. Nope jill stein. Oh okay the actual socialist i see. Okay geez now. Rich women like susan serandon will be just fine according to a liberal stephanie. The harsh effect harsh edicts of the american taliban do not touch her privileged life. This is becoming a thing with it. Yes yeah it is. The american taliban is anybody who doesn't wanna murder babies right or they're the texas taliban now too that's cute 'cause then you've got the alliteration. Yep yeah yeah. Yeah the tease the star. Both work can can we. Do you have the cartoon available. Rob i. I don't want to throw off here. Oh everything's cool okay so Our computer system could go broke it yet. Donate they'll say we need fault Yeah something happened mystic innate. But i gotta show you this cartoon later. That's just my numbing. I know the one what you speak. Yes it is yes. It is because killing. Babies is so important to the left man. It is like their life goal to make sure as many babies as possible are slaughtered in their lifetime. You think about that. Sixty three million and counting sixty three million since nineteen seventy-three in roe v. Wade wow it's over. A billion its way over a billion worldwide. Think about the people who could have. I don't know maybe there might have been somebody in there. Who cured cancer or found a cure for this stupid kovic situation. We'll never know and we'll never know. Here's that cartoon question. Oh there we go at the to afghani women. Full burqas now right. And they're saying pray for texas women that's funny because texas women can't slaughter babies so you gotta accept up to six weeks. They certainly can come to six weeks life in texas for women so compared to and by the way i'd like to point out that cartoonist i grew up looking at his dribble Michlovic of the atlanta journal constitution I think i think his cartoons is far left. Leaning cartoons may have had as much to do with my political leanings and development growing up in atlanta as anything. No man is sick. Anyway that's mean that's outrageous is just outrageous. They are so upset over the fact that you can't kill a baby after six weeks that they're apoplectic. Yeah well they're upset about a lot of stuff they're also upset that you can have a constitutionally guaranteed right protected in this state by carrying a gun now yeah and and yes and she's actually in the constitutes right right they're also upset about the the voting restrictions now making it. You know so that you can't steal an election in texas coming to show you the the biden now. maybe that was just. I don't know if we have video. Don't move to texas if you're if you're far because you you'll hate it here. I mean we just passed all this stuff that you just right. You're going to hate now. Mr brain dead incoherent mindless buffoon Joe biden tried to put ro v wade into the constitution or something here Biden said yesterday as he denounced the texas law. That effectively bans abortions. After six weeks he said the law. Quote blatantly violates. The constitutional rights established under roe. V wade in upheld his precedent for nearly a half century Unquote by the way. There is no roe v wade in the constitution. The rule v wade is not a constitutional law. Okay i the supreme court said it is constitutional but it's not in the constitution so it's not a constitutional right. Get out of here. You know what the constitutional right is as far as abortion is concerned. It's for the right of the the unborn. That's who's granted a right from the constitution because this is in the constitution we the people of the united states in order to form a more perfect union establish justice insure domestic tranquility provide for the common defense promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity dordain and establish this constitution for the united states of america. So we have. We have guaranteed the blessings of liberty to not just ourselves but our austerity. And who are our posterity Seems like the people being born like this would protect them and grant them the blessings of liberty so one of those Blessings is to be born but is the word freedom in the costumer solution. Yes oh is it. Yes it is okay. It's not what i heard. I go to the movies. I learned otherwise. Oh you go to the movies. Yeah oh i must be mistaken. Then did they say in a movie. Well i mean that. That's where i get my history so.

"Recently in the run-up to this game that he'll always regret his failure to include players from the negro leagues among the ghost players. Which you know looking back now makes me feel like that's enough to relegate this film to the aspen of history and it's not something that we should continue to celebrate say remake field of dreams. Call it feel fuck. Y'all and have cool papa. Bell and josh gibson oscar charleston and judy johnson and bullet joe rogan. Beat the crap. Out of shoeless joe and racist rogers hornsby and all of them every single day. Over and over. Paternity roger hornsby was raised. I'd see i didn't know that out. I think that the also premier racist being taught ty cobb but okay racist disputed by historians now rogers hornsby lock. He was racy lived up to. Yeah yeah well you see you know an i totally appreciate you stuff and for having that critique of it I'm glad that there are people that are thinking about it. In that way. Because i i can understand why people were agitated by artifice of the whole thing and you know why people are mad at you know how the game left people out. But you know. I don't really have a problem with them. Romanticizing that movie or the games glories pass. Because i think we're all sort of looking backward was fully right now like if this was the confederacy might have an issue with it. But but and if i thought they would truly trying to erase intentionally trying to erase black people's contributions from the game with this event i might have an issue with it but this was about a very specific moment in baseball history and i can't blame baseball of fox for wanting to celebrate and make something cool out of it and you know as i think back on it. It's the same reason that the hoosiers aren't isn't something that i'm in love with. I'm not a huge fan of it. You know maybe my favorite baseball movie is major league. But i like soul of the game which was a movie that was on. Hbo about the negro leagues. And so i'm just less interested in the field of dreams. Shoehorning meagerly players that. I'm seeing more movies and stories about the negro leagues is that makes sense. That makes sense that makes total sense. And yeah i was going to bring up hoosiers actually and maybe that can be a transition into another conversation point. Which is that a bunch of folks ranges early among them kind of looking at the success and popularity of this game saying okay. What major league. Baseball has is inventory. Each team has eighty one home games a year. Why not put you know. Have the seattle mariners. Play an annual series in alaska. The midnight sun games or have the padres play and hawaii. And that got me thinking all. That sounds cool but baseball's already kind of been doing that. Their games an england. There've been games out of out of the country and they didn't really pop in the same way that these dead and maybe the alaska like the midnight sun series. That is actually a cool idea. You need to think about games that would feel special indifferent and would create kind of good and cool images. And so i was thinking about. Would it actually for the exact same reason that you brought it up like would it be cool to see the pacers and whoever play in like the mylan high school gym for all of the issues that one can have with the movie hoosiers like would it be or generalized even like would it be cool to see an nba game in. I don't know coalfield house sir. One of these old like stories straight Park yeah one of these kind of like storied place. And i think i think it probably would be cooled depending on on. What a location. As and again i think you really just have to separate out. I feel like a lot of the reason why this was interesting. And popular was because it looked cool to head home runs into corn like totally separate from anything to do with the movie. I mean as an important josh. And i think in trashing dreams like i just did about this very specific point. I'm also it's really sentimental movie in a little bit. Hokey sentiment is okay. It's okay to be sent to mine outs saw that is separate separate from. How does major league baseball market itself. And how does it generate attention to try to reverse some of the perceived problems of the sport in attracting new audiences. And whether or not you watch field of dreams or cognizant of field of dreams or read shoeless joe by can sela or buy into any of that sort of mythology. It doesn't mean you wouldn't have turned on that game but is really cool. Like i don't know anything about kevin costner. But the plan in the middle of iowa and they're hitting balls into corn and look at the batter's eye in the outfield. it looks like a barn. That's awesome so. I think you could replicate that. So the question for baseball is like can you do this while knowledge in your history and trying to find ways to circumvent the bigger issue so if as a bunch of people have suggested should major league baseball. Play a game at rickwood. Park in birmingham alabama where the birmingham black barons played. That'd be kind of cool. I mean would that honor baseball history or wooded. Draw attention to the fact that the birmingham black barons had to play in the negro leagues and none of its players. Were to play in the american or national league's. That might be pretty cool and i. It's just hard to get past. The idea of seeing professional athletes playing these big games in these like really distinctive parks. There's beautiful football stadium and tacoma washington. That i would love to see like a big game at right Just thinking about like you know the backgrounds. That would be beautiful but you know. Isn't this just sort of. I mean we're really excited about this game. But don't you think that we would talked about josh fundamentally major league. Baseball's problem is something that is really difficult to change that the amount inventory that it has. It's like you can make a few games a big deal that you can have a game. You know it all these beautiful places that we've listed but it's just hard to make an event out of one hundred sixty two games in a season right and why would fans care about ratings or the appeal to other people like that's the thing i sort of. Don't understand because if you're a baseball fan life has never been better you can see. Almost every game played by every team on tv at some point. That's not something that we did. Actually poznansky wrote about this in his piece. He said this was a mid week. Regular season prime-time baseball game on network television. And that never happens anymore. And i think there's something that because we're just so much tv now like we're not going to be able to build every game up like that. And i just think. The urgency and novelty baseball has changed a lot over the past thirty years thirty years ago when i was sort of a fan. Nbc used to broadcast the game of the week with bob costas. I used to watch those every now and again it was really a big deal because it was not so much baseball on tv. And maybe i might get to watch american league teams that i would never get to see otherwise but doesn't that an to the inventory problem. Joel that if you can carve out one game a week in some exotic interesting location. Going to cost the sport money but the sport has money. The sport has money to do this on..

"So ted solution to this seems to be to bring better players in but that is not a solution like that's going to make everybody else who's really bought into trying at ted's way work so i think there's a lot of interesting conflict even in the silly comedy even in a show. That's only half an hour. That is emerging into the show is confident and bringing in dealing with and i. I really love that about it. And that's another reason why i love that. It's week to week for sure. Yeah i'm thrilled so we tweet journey. I'm not the only person that loves it. Our listeners aren't the only person that loves it. You're not the only person that loves it. Josh tad lhasa was in the zeitgeist in my own world my favorite baseball team the cincinnati red. Is it lasso. This has been. My favorite thing is like living this through you. So i really. I'm glad you're bringing it up because it's just been like you've been taxing the updates simply because i'm not going to fall on my own but like i i love. I love this journey for joey dots. Joey vodkas off my favorite athlete of my lifetime as long suffering cincinnati sports. Fan of all sports Joey votto is this. Just speaking of skewing mercurial like joey votto is an interesting character is not a typical athlete. He seems to just be able to dedicate himself to specific aspects of his craft. Even if it angers people sometimes each roles people like he has just this exceptional character. And i gotta give a shout out to trent rosecrans over at the athletic who has provided sort of a glimpse into the mind of joey votto. He's gotten joey votto on podcast with joe poznansky and mike sure of parks and recreation the good place fame talking about tv and talking about joey's views on entertainment and athletes..

"And now it's time to unite as one family one community to build the next era for this team and the city and quotes and according to washington post. The name and logo are inspired by the hope memorial bridge which leads to progressive field and is home to massive stone statues known as the guardians of traffic. The idea according to information about the name change offered on the team's website is to pay homage to the guardians of traffic watching over the city as hangs noted in the video. The team released the goal is to preserve cleveland's baseball tradition and the teams place in the city and quotes of course. There's predictably been a bit of backlash but most people are applauding. The change with some maybe disappointed. It wasn't changed to something cooler. Although i'd say picking something that promoted local pride and resiliency was pretty safe move and while the team has had their former name for just over a century. It's not their original name. Since the franchise's founding as a minor league team in eighteen ninety four they've been called many names including the rustlers the lake shores the bluebirds or the blues. The naps or the napoleon's and the spiders quoting indian country today. According to cleveland baseball history the indians name was chosen in nineteen fifteen honor. Louis sockalexis of the pinup scott tribe. Who played for the then. Cleveland spiders in eighteen ninety seven joe poznansky of nbc sports however found in two fourteen th the name was actually the creation of a group of sports writers in nineteen fifteen looking to renew fan interest in the poorly performing cleveland. Naps sports writers at the cleveland. Plain dealer and other newspapers created eight nomenclature committee and sponsored a contest in which fans could choose a new name for the team. The sockalexis story was entirely untrue. A bit of state funded propaganda to conceal the obvious fact. Cleveland team was named the indians only to capitalize on the many racist cliches. That could be used to promote the team. It was glorious opportunity for hilarious native american jokes and race specific cliches insults that fit well in headlines. Poznansky wrote and quotes. Amanda black horse of the denomination. And who has long fought against native themed mascots told indian country today quote. This victory belongs to the native people and organizations within cleveland who've been fighting this issue for decades. Although this change should have happened decades ago. I hope other franchises like the kansas city team and the atlanta team can learn from this and move away from native mascots and slur names and quotes the cleveland guardians will be retaining their team colors of red white navy. The full changeover will debut at the start of the twenty twenty two season back in june. I told you about some of the youngest olympians headed to tokyo this year. Twelve year olds sky brown from the uk and kono hiraki from japan who will be competing in the park. Category of skateboarding won't earlier. Today was the final four street skateboarding and the top two winners ended up being thirteen year. Old genie shia from japan. Who won gold and thirteen year old. Al from brazil who won the silver teenage girls are absolutely crushing it at the olympics this year and i think it's awesome. Can't wait to watch them take over the world anyways. It is great to be back huge. Thank you to glenn fleishman for taking over. While i was away i was tuning in well. I was on the road. And i particularly enjoyed his segments about the standardization of paper sizes. More interesting than it. Sounds like the explainer on all of those seed packets that people mysteriously got from china in twenty twenty and the history of new coke. If you missed any of those definitely go back and give him a listen and be sure to follow glenn on twitter to keep up with his other work but that is it from me for today as always the show was produced by ride home media and cocky dot org. "This is america's sports talk. Show sports byline. Usa here's rhonda jo. Poznansky is with us and again. Please check out this book. It is a wonderful book. It's called the soul of baseball. A road trip through buck o'neil's america a lot of our younger people. Don't know much about the history of the negro leagues just briefly joke. Can you tell everybody about it. Yeah you know and it actually began here in kansas city In nineteen twenty there was a group of a black businessmen and actually it was one white businessmen as well jail wilkinson who was just inducted into the hall of fame and they said you know let's let's create a league. I mean there. There were a lot of Little leagues around the country for black players. Obviously there was no opportunity for them to play in the major leagues so yet these wonderful athletes who loved to play. They put this lead together. It went through. Its its opposites down so it it really struggled during the depression but the time to buck was playing. And we're talking about the late thirties. Early forties world war. Two is probably right around. That stretch is probably the heyday of the nickel. And there were. There are many many great players leading up to that point of course. But that was the time of josh gibson. Satchel page and cool papa bell and and so many others that that That people might know. And and you know what's the world war two ended. There were a couple of years. They're still before jackie. Robinson but nine hundred forty six was when jackie robinson and at that point everybody felt. I think that a real change was gonna come and and And the negro leagues still had some wonderful players in the late forties Hank aaron plant in the negro leagues. Willie mays played in the negro leagues. But things obviously changed after. Jackie robinson and there was a new goal and a new ambition for players and there should have been there as bach said they deliberately through a wonderful thing but they never should have happened never should have been any grow leagues. Did buck room with satchel pages. That right he managed. That's pay and he was a teammate of satchel pageant and they did room together on occasion He was very very close. Astral page and of course the famous thing for a central page called him. Nancy and And so they were very very close and the buck is that buck was never happier than when he was talking with that. Why did he call him. Nancy as a good story There's a full chapter in the book. And i could never tell it the way bucket. But very briefly they were At some point That's page was pitching and north dakota and they met a woman named nancy and satchel invited her to come to chicago to to watch him patch and she said i'm going to do that and so they met in chicago. They were at the hotel. Balking and settled page was sitting though. Nancy came driving up a in the in the cab and that's ran out and took her upstairs and while they were upstairs another cap came and it was the home of who was satchels wife or i guess beyond say at that point and fuck ran out there to to get a hold on. He sent somebody upstairs and said okay. Hey you let's settled lomas here So satchel comes down the fire escape and this this sort of intricate plan to to to hide nancy and that night It was it was at night and buchan sleep with buck. Nude at satchel was gonna have to do something about nancy going to have to send her back home giving money to get back home. So he's he hears the door open door open. Okay here. It comes and satchel walks out and he starts knock on the door and he. He knocks and because nancy nancy. There's no answer and finally goes nancy. And and just as he says it real loud the whole of pops out and buck hearing the home of runs to the door himself and opened the door and he says attached. Did you want something special. Said yes nancy. What time the game start tomorrow. So from that day on he was nancy. Does he deserve any credit at all. For the great line about satchel page that he was so quick that when he turned off the light in the room he got in bed before it got dark. That was cool. Papa bell okay. Oh that's right so quick that he and i. I'm not sure you know. That statue was credited with that line. and satchel of course that not good. Fuck fuck loved us that line. That's a buck favor. Line about sasso page was that And i can't remember who it was but who said originally but said that a catholic catching with steak and by the end of the game it would be hamburger. Thought that was flawed. The other thing. I remember talking to talk about was that in. Correct me if i'm wrong about this. But if my memory serves me correctly is that he did not particularly liked the movie a bingo long traveling all stars. They really didn't like the move very much. And i think especially because it was sort of the first movie that came out and so that's sort of set in people's minds Very strong impression and the impression that talk from that movie. I mean there were others. That didn't feel strongly like this but bucks. Impressive was that made them look like clowns. It made the players look like clowns and didn't give the impression of how good they were and didn't give the impression of just how much of a professional league this was. You know it sort of made it look like it. Was this ragtag bond. She didn't care much about baseball. Didn't didn't Didn't play all that. Well i mean he. He never felt like the movie captured. What the negro leagues were and he really was He used to say to people because there would be people come up to him and they would say. Oh i love that thing go along and buck the first thing he would always say you know wasn't like that that was that they were. We were real players we weren't we weren't clowns and we weren't just acting in we were in the we were just playing baseball of half a heart. I mean we. Baseball was our lives and and Yeah he used to say that about several movies like that. How does he then explained the dichotomy between his feelings on that movie in one thousand nine thirty seven playing with the team called the zulu cannibal giants. That was half baseball team half minstrel show. Then well i. I think that the the connections very strong because the puck was always embarrassed about that. There's always a little bit ashamed of of his time. He played for the zulu giants in thirty seven. And that was of course a menstrual show team that would have that they would have the more grass skirts and carry around these these clubs instead of baseball bats and they would do that. Give them these african sounding names and have them dances before the the game. And it was very much in the amos and andy type of American flow that that point and it always it was really buck lov remembering things and that was one thing that he just never liked talking about and when i finally did get them talk about it he just talked about how degrading that was and and you know he said but you had no choice. I mean that was the wanted to play baseball needed money. That was really the only opportunities that were that. Were there for a player. Who's african american in. Nineteen thirty seven. So he said that he never danced. That was the one thing he always the product. Right anything i never danced but He did wear the paint and he did wear the grass skirt and and And was very very happy to leave that team when he could see that you have in the book the story because he laughed about this about the night. He and piper davis almost walked into the middle of a ku klux klan meeting. Yeah that's It's an amazing story. And that was what they were scouts and they were. They went to a game. And dave were two guys kind of standing out in the field and you know they have life. It was at a stadium and they went up those guys and they said Where the game is and they said. Yeah oh yeah yeah. This is the game and they walk in. And they see this all everybody wearing the white sheets and the the the leader of the clan on a backup of truck and he's speaking and buck. Turn to piper davis and said They say no baseball games. They've ran out of there and he said that they drove out They saw those two guys at said a man they were just laughing their heads off and he said about ten miles down the road. They started laughing to.
