Steelers Sign Pro Bowl Guard Trai Turner After Releasing David DeCastro
"The steelers made some news yesterday by releasing veteran guard. David decastro cut saves the steelers eight point seven million dollars in cap space and they moved quickly to replace decastro by signing free agent guard trae turner but this all comes after longtime senator mark pouncey retired and the steelers lost offense lineman matt feiler now one hundred villanueva in free agency back in march so big changes for a unit in charge of protecting thirty nine year. Old ben rothlisberger jeff. How did this all come about. Well dan if we didn't already have all these questions about the offensive linemen. Decastro comes along and is dealing with what he now says. We'll be another ankle surgery. He is not sure whether he'll continue his career. He says that he would be happy to hang it. Up if indeed. His ankle can't recovering time for the season. But this is certainly a situation facing this steelers team. That makes things even murkier now. We should point out. They did sign trai. Turner guard has some pro bowls. Resumes did miss nine games last year. But now this team will be with four new starters on the offensive line's important note though here that they struggled last year so perhaps they can just get better with a new group

"Lost in all of the quarterback Carousel shuffle. Two of the best centers in the NFL Brothers no less. Made it. Official. And both announced very Tyr mints from the NFL. Marquees Pouncey and Mike Pouncey. These two guys have been literally two of the absolute best. Marquees. Fancy number 18th overall pick by the Steelers and 2010 Mike Pouncey 15th Overall, the Miami the following year. Both of these guys were full time starters from the day they join their teams. Marquees plays 11 seasons in the league. Mike plays 10 with the Dolphins and the Chargers marquees all 11 with the Steelers. And Interesting things. You know whenever a guy retires and they've got some money, there's usually some kind of dead cap charge. Some kind of cap savings going on. What marquees Pouncey. Is really good Friends with Ben Rafa's Berman. And both of these guys always said all we're gonna play as long as the other guy plays. Now, Rob spur. Of course, you know a lot older. Then Marquis is Patsy a pass. He came into the league. In 2010 and Roethlisberger, part of the 2004 draft class, so Then a lot older. Then Marquis Pouncey, however, Uh, Each of them had a contract that ran through the 2021 season. Marquis says retired which the team has, you know 6.5 million and dead calf, but they get eight million in savings. Rafa's Burger has a monster cap number. That he has talked about helping the team taking a lot less money. But they haven't actually Gotten done yet. And essentially Rothes Burger while he's talked about his contract hasn't 100% solidified whether or not he intends on coming back. Now without his very good friend and franchise center in front of him. Look, the Steelers line, which has long been a strength of the team. Was not a strength of the team this past year. They were the worst team in football. In Russian The Steelers. Think about that the Pittsburgh Steelers couldn't run the football. Mister could walk. And Rafa's Burger, who even though he is basically a linebacker, playing quarterback, And is somewhat mobile, not nearly as mobile as he used to be, and certainly a lot more brittle than he used to be. You saw some of the effect of him this year later in the season coming off of elbow surgery the year before where his arm looked like it was hurting, like hell. And he couldn't swing it. And Roethlisberger not only likes to swing it, but he likes to swing it hard and deep. Football's people pay attention. Could this be? Guess the push over the cliff. That Roethlisberger needed To decide to retire. Now. If Roethlisberger would've retired. The Steelers. Instantly become a team that needs a quarterback. Because Mason Rudolph stinks. Let's just call it what has The Steelers have Legitimate Super Bowl caliber defense. They need some help on the offensive line. They need another running back because James Connor maybe isn't built to hold up for 16 games. That's a team that Would be going from Roethlisberger's days of as an elite quarterback are long over. He still Good quarterback. Good as in middle of the pack. And he could still have games. Where he plays at an elite level for a handful of games in a row. Could you imagine? Shawn Watson. On the Steelers. Cause you mentioned they had a package deal before releasing. You could have packaged to show on N. J. J to the Steelers and gotten like, five first round picks or being obviously Daemul facetious here, but You could have gotten a huge return. If And Ross Berger says, You know what? I'm retiring. And I'm going to do my team of solid. I'm gonna reduce my salary down to like three million bucks and, uh, to save them all this money on the cap. And they come in. Get to show how How amazing would that be. And think about the last the last vision of the Texan that this year was JJ Watt into Sean walks and walking off the field together. Week, 17. And JJ, you know, given to Sean a pat on the back, apologizing that they wasted one of his seasons. JJ understands because at age 31 Looking at the team falling apart around him. Having never even played in the NFC title game, let alone a Super Bowl. He knows the clock is ticking. He doesn't want to see that happen to Shawn. Andre Johnson said the same thing we talked about that tweet earlier, Arian Foster went on a podcast, was it Gems and juice or something like that. He went on a podcast and basically said the same thing. Texas didn't care about what he thought when he said what he needed, none of it matter. And that was area made. Those comments are about the same time. It was a two days after Andre Johnson's tweet. Everybody who's gone through the Texans organization. Have all said the same thing. Rafa's Berger's decision to stay Go and how much money he's willing to give the team back. Could really change the quarterback carousel and have it go from like, you know, average speed to super high speed, and I am all here for super high speed, Harrison. Coming up. Next. We're talking UFC 2 58 with nickel Eagles pro oddsmaker from circus sports. He joins.

"Ramon foster that markey's pouncey has decided he is retiring now following the twenty twenty. Nfl season there was some reports that bouncy was considering it. He was telling some of his teammates. It's funny because one of the people will go on social. Media was ramon foster saying. This is fake news. This is not happening yet. No decision has been made things of that sort but pouncey has gone through. The announcement was made in conjunction with his twin brother. Mike pouncey who did not play in the two thousand twenty season due to injury. He had been Off and on with with injuries he had all he was dealing with a with a neck injury at one point and some things that that They knew were possibly career threatening. Markey's pouncey Eleven seasons while he didn't play in all eleven seasons but Eleven years in the nfl. He was a nine time pro bowl nine times nine times actually. Every season in which markey's pouncey played more than eight snaps. He made the pro bowl for those of in our archer. What i'm talking about in two thousand thirteen on the eighth play of of the season pouncey was lost due to a knee injury Yes that was the one where david decastro when his rookie season. I'm pretty sure that was his rookie season. Maybe a second season A young david decastro. I'll just say that Fell hana pansies knee and ended up taking him out for the season Pouncey also missed the two thousand fifteen season he was injured in. I'm pretty sure it was the third. Preseason game that season that was against the green bay packers both him and jordy nelson were lost for the season for their respective teams in two thousand fifteen. Those were the only two years at pouncey did not make the pro bowl. He made the pro bowl every other year of his career starting with his rookie year in two thousand ten. Now what's sad is that pouncey technically made it to the super bowl his rookie season now. He was unable to play the super bowl because he injured his ankle and could not play in the game. it. It really would help us us if he would have been there. The steelers lost that game and that was the last time they've been there so it just goes to show. Sometimes you kinda take it for granted. You're your reach the big game in the rookie season. And you just never see it again. But pounds was also. He was first pro two times in his career in two thousand eleven and two thousand fourteen. I know a lot of people would say yeah. Pouncey was a pro bowl this year but he shouldn't have been yes of times with the offensive line. It is more about name recognition and things of that sort when when it comes to the voting especially across the league with the with players and coaches which actually contribute to the most amount of Of getting to the pro bowl The biggest majority of of how players are elected but marquez pouncey is calling it quits now. There's a couple of things about this that we want to put the information out there. Just so you know. I i have pounded jersey. I'm ready to go put it on right now. It's one that i feel like. I can wear proudly at anytime even after he's gone. He was a pittsburgh steeler through and through Like i said eleven years with the team. First round draft pick by the steelers in two thousand ten while he was the eighteenth overall pick Lots of value there that they that they got from that draft. Pick but i know people are going to have other questions sir. In regards to pittsburgh steelers moving on because that's how it happens in the nfl you there. You play the appreciate what they've done and guess what the very next day. You gotta get ready to to get out there and make your team the best. It can be moving forward so the number one question comes first comes with the salary cap and patsy was set to cost fourteen point. Four seven five million dollars against the salary cap this year. He will have six point. Four seven five of that in dead money meaning. That is money that has already been paid to him. It's not a check that the steelers have to right. It was written Over the years like last year when he restructured his deal got part of that money when he signed the when he initially signed his last year. We got part of that money. Pouncey only had one year remaining on his contract show. His salary for that season is what the steelers will save against the salary cap. Because it's they haven't played it yet. They won't have to pay it. And that's eight million dollars now because he was on the last year and you weren't spreading that out and other years you're not looking at a drew brees situation where he knocked off all but the league minimum of his contract for this year. So that way the saints can wait until july to announce to have his atonement retirement. Be anything official. Because they wanted to spread out his salary. Cap hit over the following season. You can't do that in this case because county only had the one you're so it's gonna save eight million dollars towards the salary cap that the steelers were already in trouble It's looking like it's slowly but surely getting there that that that through these things the other question that people have which is probably the bigger question is what does this mean for one. Benjamin todd rothlisberger because both of these players have said over the years that They were going to go out together. I always felt. I might be wrong with this. I was knew that was more of what pouncey was saying that he was that If ben hung it up he was going to hang it up. It didn't necessarily mean that he was gonna stick around as long as ben with sticking around because this is the could very well be the case for two thousand twenty one ben. Rothlisberger has a year left on his contract. He supposed to be in discussions with the steelers this week. We know one of the things with ben coming back was going to be. you know. Wanted to make sure that guys like pouncey. Were still going to be retained for the season. Well penalty made the decision was zone. Doesn't seem like there was any pressure from the steelers. In that regard that has not been reported at this time. So it's all about now. What does ben wants to do. What's going to work out. Well with the steelers were waiting to hear news on this at any time If this is going to be a situation where they do an extension slash restructure. I mean you can't restructure a contract with only one year left so it would have to be some sort of extension and then moved money around in a certain way with ben rothlisberger or if he's going to say you know what maybe maybe if if my my center is not going to be around than maybe maybe he decides that this isn't the authority wants to do for twenty twenty one. We don't know it could be very interesting. You can't say that it doesn't enter into the equation when it comes to rothlisberger so that moment that we saw at heinz field following the wild card round loss where the two players were. Were sharing a moment on the bench that that was it that was it for them so that moment a little bit more ingrained in our minds as steeler fans just wanted On behalf of behind the curtain. I would like to know. Thank marquees pouncey. for his. The years that he gave to the pittsburgh steelers he was a captain for many years. He was a vocal leader He really helped command that line for the for the steelers even when his his skills depending on who was playing next to him seemed to be Not what they once were when he was younger man at times he still brought the knowledge and the leadership that that unit needed..

"And also because he has run game there a little bit more so than Pittsburgh. That's what's really failing The Steelers right now the inability to run the football, but James Connor returns this evening verse. The bills. That makes someone more intriguing as well as Pouncey returning for the Steelers, too, Yes, but the Steelers don't have but to pre and that's going to be a big problem. He's a disrupter. Yeah, definitely disruptor, so Steelers and bills That's the Sunday night game tonight's far away the Steelers coming off their first loss of the silly season. Against the Washington football team. I did not see that coming at all. I don't know who did. But if you did kudos to you, Steelers run run game has been an issue fewer than 100 rushing yards and six of their last seven games with Jordan mentioned James Connor coming back, Maybe that quarter of them that kind of boost and we're big James Connor fans in the corner household. We are big James. Everybody should be James Conner family. Everyone should. It's a feel good kind of story. All right, let's go back to some of these scores in case you missing this, So the Bears right now are up on the Texans seven to nothing here with your chest. Shay. That's your bears out here. My Chicago bears at home right now have a lead. And that is where I can stand proud because I don't know how long that's gonna last. They lead right now. Then you do that Seven. Nothing. Unbelievable. It's just these air. Just I'm speaking truth. I hope you're more loyal in life than you are with your bears. Let me just tell you No, no, no, no, don't do that. I've been with these bears since the day that I was born. Okay, You're willing to just dismiss it like that first. All right now, what's the difference If she's not loyal to a team shoes, it's a birthright of hers to cheer for. You can be critical. The loyal and also be critical. Criticize your own team. She's critical. That's what we asked you on a break. We asked Ryan Matt like our producer today in the break, whose favorite was I think he just announced it to the world. That issue. Congratulations. Clean sweep of the production crew here on Game day. Everybody's in Shane's corner. No surprise, right as he Hey, it's all right. I'm still I started to show happy. I'm determined to end it in a positive manner to you guys. Can't you guys can't hit me? Can't clip me. I'm glad everybody likes you. They should you the better half literally. All I said was that the Bears are leading seven. Nothing and I don't know how long it's gonna last Thies air Just fax because I watch football. That's all I'm trying to tell you. There are more score updates, but we got to get to him in a minute. Let's update you real quick, just eyeballing that chief's dolphin sing in the midst of all this hate here. Remember how we talked about the Dolphins ability to take away the football second in the NFL? Patrick Holmes. Two interceptions in the first quarter. If that's the kind of game this is gonna be, this is how the Dolphins win games if they could turn over the guy who's so good against the blitz, who's so good at managing the game and value the football and Patrick Mahomes two picks from homes in the first quarter that Dolphins defense don't play, and that tells a lot of the story while the Dolphins are leading seven to nothing to the start of the second quarter. That's a good nugget. Wow, look at Patrick Mahomes, making mistakes that no one thought was coming. Meanwhile, to a tango by Lola doesn't turn the ball over so they don't put him in position to well, quick hitters, quick hitters toe. That's why he also is very effective against the blitz to the Chiefs, One of the top three teams NFL at blitzing, so him being and put in position to make plays not be impacted negatively by that blitz. Is gonna be huge in this game, too. But my home's the one careless with the football, not the rookie to a tongue of a law rolling with my homies. That's way worse than anything. I've done. Two. Okay, we'll check back in with Tommy is who is? I? Look, I love that I'll check back in with the Dolphins. Also, I'm going to get to the rest of the score updates that's coming up next year, listening to Shay and Jordan corn at this is Game day. ESPN radio, Are you It's greenie. He threw.

"A deal with the press. I hate this concept of you know, the talk radio host who says, really leading the media narrative? Feel like a douche. Who's the media narrative? But it is a thing. And I don't know exactly where the truth is. I'm reading stories on both sides. But you know about the these names that NFL players are putting on the back of their helmets. And apparently Pittsburgh Steelers and some of the Steelers. Ah, What's his name? Moore Always forget this guy's name. Maurice Pouncey. Pouncey. What marquees? Pouncey, a few others have decided. No, We're taking this guy's name off her helmet because I don't I'm reading different things. One thing I read is that they may have had a drive by shooter. On their helmet. Now that I reach somewhere else, that he was mistaken for a drive by shooter and I've got too many stories on both sides, but ah, people on the team Pouncey. Is there really something saying? Look, it's on me. I should take. You know these guys, somebody of the capital, the team decides this is the person and all of this is you know handed down right? So there's an organization who should we put on our helmets? The organization tells you, you trust the organization and you put it on there. Do individual players, actually. Then look into that story. Find out exactly And so there are some players on the Pittsburgh Steelers who have looked into the story, and they're disturbed by the idea that they believe they may have put a A Ah, a random tribe by shooter. On on their helmet because he ended up being killed by the cops. But again, I have to be honest and say I'm reading things from two different perspectives. But I do know there are people who had his name on their helmet last week. Who are not going to wear it this week after they looked into it, and the's are African American players are coming to this decision, so there's some confusion and it really it comes down to the the thing I've said many times. This is not while everything's political, but this is now with celebrities, Actors, athletes. This is fashion. And that's why things like this is gonna happen. Because when fat when you're a fashionable person, and you see somebody wearing something fashionable, you just wear the fashionable thing. You don't look in to see if little kids and other countries are getting $1 a month to put the shirt together, You know, I mean, it's like it's fashionable. Everybody's doing it. And once you get this is the problem once every If you ever politically find yourself marching and looking around and Wow, I agree with everybody. It doesn't always mean you're wrong, but it usually means you're wrong. That should be your first things. Oh, everybody I know is agreeing on everything. Red flag doesn't mean they're wrong. Maybe you're all right. But it but it should be the first thing and once everybody what happens is Pittsburgh has an organization. Alright, provide us with the names. Do they check him? The players aren't going to check him. So what This means is ultimately no matter how this story goes. Ah, lot of players are wearing names on their helmets, and they know nothing about that person. And that's not a political statement. It just reinforces what I'm saying. Meal ing All of this virtue, signaling at this point is not a serious thing. It is fashionable. That's why kids all do it. You know something's fashionable when every kid does it, and a whole lot of adults do it. So that's one thing to look at. Before we get to. Ah, Paul Staley. I believe his next I don't want to go. I don't want to. I don't know. Get into this. He flew it into l A and and then no. You lose house and Tucker. Flew in from L A. And then what's always crash in Tucker's off Theatre? Yeah, I know You're a big fan of you. I like you. A big fan of Tucker. I do not. Ah, I don't want to read this thing. But somebody who has a podcast sent to me some advice. About how to do my job better and let me just and I'm reading is if it's so consultant, whatever and then and then ends with the Oh, Here's a You can listen to my podcast to see how it's done. So let me just say to this person I'm 56 years old. I first worked. It walked into a radio station in December of 1988. Okay, and I have done something. Clark Howard tells me on the first on the only person ever do it. I don't know that that's true. But it certainly is rare that somebody has been on a high flying nineties early two thousand's rock and Roll Morning show successfully, and then went to a talk radio station and created a huge audience on a talk radio station. So I appreciate that, fellows. I didn't recognize his name. Strangely enough. I didn't recognize it. And hey, here, listen to this. It will teach you how to do it properly. You keep following the consultants, you sound to me Like one of the worst things a radio person confined themselves becoming Consultant yourself. Let's do this. Hi. It's both Stanley. And this is Paul Stanley presents the latest music and entertainment nose on Leon the bond with doctor that seems that seems defensive you, Paul Stanley, sometimes you got to stand up, right? You stand up for kiss you. You let people know I hung up for Kit and Jean has always stood up for kiss. We don't need Some Johnny come lately, like new Rock band guys saying, Hey, that's gotta tour. I don't need that. You don't need that. You're a professional. You don't get emails from Yola Tango, telling you how to become a rock star who's he won't leave. Some K pop group. I don't know something along those lines. Let people know Paul Stanley is in the middle of the 90th farewell tour for the For the Rock band Kiss tells me Scout's honor that this is the final farewell tour. And when it's over, relatively young man wants to get into the entertainment news business. Everyone's while we bring him in and and give it a chance. Give me a chance to learn howto how to do it. So you got some entertainment news for us, Paul Stanley, too, but I just wanted to say this. Listen, we took off our masks. To stay at home. And when we're at home, we wear the other masks. And then when we go to the grocery store, I'm nowhere in the polls. Stanley, get up. I'm wearing my face mask. I ride my bike. I go get my specialty coffee and my little you know, Italian foods that I'm making in the house. Yes, but when we go back on tour, we're going to be wearing a mask. The old surprised. I'm surprised that I know a little bit about your life and you seem very settled down in domestic and family. And yet I know for a fact you've had sex with over 2000 women. It's just seems It's very rare. I don't someone someone has sex with thousands of women and then finds themselves actually settled down and quite the family man. I don't know how you pull it off. Well, there's a lot of that involved anyway. So there is no joke necessary there. Paul Stanley they want Do you want the job on the entertainment? They're not going to allow that kind of humor. No, I want it. Just answer. You know what? Maybe we should get through the first story, Paul, That's what I said. You're right. Quiet. Yes. Don't be. Randy will be filled. Listen, you know, you guys know who Van Morrison is. He was a big guy. I love big finger from Ireland and everything. Well, he's around. I girl right, brown eyed girl, brown eyed girl. And every other song I never done. He's steely Dan to me. I love Van Morrison. Don't get me wrong. His last album I thought was great. Listen to it all the time. But like Steely Dan,.

"Were those votes on Reputation Tony? As far as last year. Yeah, I I think especially year at all You know and even snapping the ball back in the shotgun I mean we saw radical. How radically was? Way More than one occasion, so it wasn't a great year, and as you see what a lot of especially a lot of offensive linemen when they get. In their career they do get voted to the pro bowl on reputation I think last year was definitely example of somebody who probably didn't deserve to be in the pro bowl being in the PROVO. Cuban go neither decastro yeah they. They stood out. Yeah, first time there wasn't A. Skill position player voted which they're not skill, position players, but a SCO position player on offense. Not voted in no operative player were there last year plenty of plenty of defense defensive action there to last year, so that was nice, but here's the thing people were talking about how Ben makes receivers. They've Shipley just said that people were talking about how of course Ben makes the running game. Go better if the receivers are going better. How much of a correlation do you think it is with? The entire offensive line know the fingers got pointed pounds because he's. He's pretty much the captain of that offensive line. and. Fingers were pointed at him, but my question to you, Tony is this. Is the fact that those snaps erratic was more because of cadence timing with your quarterback I mean. You're dealing with A. You'll basically a rookie, even though he wasn't in Mason Rudolph. He was the second year man, but it was first time out there really in dealing with the hodges who basically had no experience so. You think the timing was off in maybe last year. Even with market pouncey is just memorization. I don't know what to attribute. The snaps to I mean cadence. No matter what what the cadences still just? At the skill, the snap the ball back To get to get it to where it's supposed to go, and to be on target with so I don't know why he was. He was off. Unless there was a an unknown injury that you know we're. We're not aware of I don't know what to attribute that to that was. That was really bizarre to see him a pro bowl center an all pro center. Be that off target, but so many of his shotgun snap, and as far in for as much as they they Run their offense, the shotgun that was pretty alarming. Sure as heck didn't help. Help the offense I can tell you that. The only reason I'm bringing this up and let me bring this up. First pouncey keeps going on every place as ran O'Toole, no matter how long it takes until the whistle love that lot of senator centers never ended up fifteen yards downfield. That's why I love Markey's Pouncey. He's pounds a warrior I love this guy. I'm treating last year two thousand nineteen, including Markey's Pouncey, including Juju Smith Schuster as an absolute aberration. I think that penalty has not lost it but a lot of people think so I think pouncey is going to come back and have a great season I'm curious to think about what everybody else says. A lot of people wanted a center. They were talking about that kid that ended up going. The kid from Michigan vs that ended up going to the Kansas City chiefs. and. They were talking about that guy is maybe bring him in a lot of people are ready to say goodbye to the hall of the Future Hall of Famer in my mind. I'm ready to do that yet. So this is not I'm not saying that he's done, but one thing that doesn't lie. Being ranked thirty six out of thirty centers now I know there's only thirty two starting centers league with injuries. With stabs, that's a pro football. Pro Football Focus stats, so that's. Saying that he's thirty six out of thirty six so that. That's a that's an indictment something. So, what? What do you think that ranking Tony? They've never given him a whole Lotta. Love, so you know I but thirty six out of thirty six. I think that's that's kind of ridiculous. On their part. I know they're. They're a reputable site, but I I don't agree with that and a good friend of mine pointed out to me last week, so many of these these. Maybe. Maybe he's wrong. I don't know so many of these. they get better grades for doing less and somebody mentioned in the live chat He's such an athletic center in and he goes on every plane and goes a hundred percent on every play and I don't know how many times over the years I've remarked, and people have watched games with remarkable at him running. You know basically being escort for running back twenty thirty yards down the field. You know not too many centers that athletic in that, and had that much intensity so You know I think his his. His. His grades are because he does more than other other people at his position can do and I think he gets he gets. Unfairly graded because of that. Okay. Ronald Tool citizens rankings are so all over the place and I get that, so let's do this. Let's do our own rankings and let's forget about the rest of the NFL. We're calling him a future hall of Famer. Tony Green with on that is Marquee Pouncey a future hall of Famer. He's absolutely future hall of Famer. I mean he's. He's made the pro bowl every year that he hasn't been injured, missed a couple of seasons or A good part of a couple season to injury at twenty thirteen in two thousand fifteen. They were kind of sandwiched. In between two thousand fourteen seasons, he missed. But other than that. He's been pretty horrible and he's made the pro bowl every year as we talked about before or last year was probably based on reputation, but overall I mean his overall resume screams hall of fame. Yes. Ten seasons, ten seasons, eight pro bowls to all pros two thousand thirteen was that. You Know Green Bay. Packers Fan talk about the horrible game when Jordy Nelson went down now. Pittsburgh. That was the horrible game marquees. Pouncey went down for the year. It was a preseason game number. Two I was having my fantasy football draft, and of course I can't. I can't get pouncey, but the have to pick up Jordy Nelson and then I saw that I'm like there. That's out the door because we were early on in the draft, but two thousand thirteen, he did not go and. That's that's it. I'm looking at it right now. So in two thousand ten eleven twelve, fourteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, so fifteen was the year as well so I bet you I'm sorry. That injury was in two, thousand, fifteen, two, thousand thirteen, and I'm not looking at the live chat right now. somebody might have already correct me, but two thousand thirteen was the opening game against Tennessee. The ended up going four to start that season when he went out in that game and we ended up with Fernando Velasco. And Cody Wallace. Right putting some action on the line. actually cody Wallace was more two, thousand, fifteen, starter Fernando was thousand thirteen lately. They perform Abeille, but they just weren't. Markey's Pouncey and here's a question to. You know two thousand fifteen was a big big season for the steelers the. GOT RIPPED OFF AGAINST DENVER. In that that AFC divisional game in two thousand fifteen. You know look at the guys that they were without. Being without the Angela Williams an me on Bell, they were. Both of those guys we were without Antonio Brown know Richard Gumy's no mark. He's Pouncey. Fewer full strength with that team. And they were fumble away from winning that game against Denver. Yet, but you know what. Fits Tucson fumbles and he. He played admirable, admirably Jordan Todman, but the guy I was so mad that. Peyton Manning's down. He's down. He gets up any runs for a first down. He but he was down. And gave himself up he. Thing I mean I'm like that's going to be overturned and then also. thinking feeling that this is home, cooking or this is. We need Peyton to get a ring in Denver and that's the way it felt. So. But Marcus Pouncey..

"Let let. Let's be honest. I mean Golden State was a great team. We were obsessed with Golden State. Everybody was obsessed with them and said was. There's a bunch of really good teams in the Western Conference this year. I mean we're one game out of the spot where two and a half games out of the second spot and it's GonNa be a tough playoff run and our team. We feel. I can win it. All as well as the LAKERS CLIPPERS DENVER DALLAS. There's just a Lotta Utah. There's a lot of really good teams and and we don't fear anybody. We've been like we can win it all as well as the clippers and the Lakers in Denver. They don't fear anybody and then before we get to Mace Jay. Williams said this yesterday about the rockets in the Lakers. You know who is the only bad matchup for the rockets? And just the clippers the matchup. 'cause they're the personality of the guards to guard them right now. We were to start the playoffs today. Stephen a the rockettes. We go through the Utah Jazz. I think they would beat them. They have to go through the Lakers. They will beat the Lakers Lakers. The watcher said they beat the Lakers question. Whose style do you think we'll prevail? Do you think the Lakers tied to play them small or would they try to play them? Big I think. Come playoff time to ball slows down. It GETS MORE PHYSICAL. And that's what how do you match up? How do you match up? You can't play big against them. They'll bring you out the gym not running the B on amounts of recessions. You're going to have to play small. You can't play Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard together. You get Anthony Davis and the development together the play. Ad Lebron and go small the match up. I gotTa admit once upon a time. I didn't know Dan Tony would last.

Now Bergman how close is that to me when I talked to you off the air about stuff that we're going to discuss on the air. It's close to word for word. Neither nobody would ever know that unless they've actually been around me in person but that's why Marquees Bouncy is my spirit animal that was. That was pretty incredible. I mean he's not wrong. I mean when you're back in the day when they were like hurting for you know they were making like a thousand dollars a game or whatever it was. This is totally different worlds here now. Yeah and I don't know if he's really going to start loaning money but I could see where maybe at least on his own team. He would be willing to help some guys out. Would you put it past him? No I would not. I listen if there's one thing I know about the pounds you brothers vein. They aren't lying like you may not like what comes out of their mouth. You know what I mean like. Line it's time for straight talk brought to you by straight talk wireless everything for less only at Walmart. So it's funny. Yesterday we were talking about Lebron being the MVP right. Like I said I don't understand why we don't have more love for him as far as trying to be the MVP and today on ESPN DOT com. I think maybe they were listening to the show because they did One of these five on five I take part in these sometimes but they did these five on five five different. Nba reporters asking five different questions. And the first question was can Lebron catchiness. Mvp So look. Most of the folks in this particular story said no Bobby Marx said No. Jackie macmullan said. Don't call curtains on the bronze. She thinks the Brian is a shot. Royce Young said Yang. Still Kerr Goals. Berry who I like a lot. I mean I like all these people a lot. But he's the guy that I don't think enough people know he's like our big analytics guy. He thinks that Lebron has a real case. And here's why he thinks. Lebron has a real case. I like to give you guys some stuff here where it's kind of good food for thought and just knowledge like the goal of this show is always to try to entertain and inform so here. We're going to try to inform you. Lebron James his on off numbers. Okay when Lebron James is on the court your Los Angeles Lakers are a plus ten point seven points per one hundred possessions. Okay when Lebron James is off the floor. We've talked about this falls off a cliff minus two point six. There is a difference of thirteen points. Huge here's Jaanus when Yang. This is on the floor. Fifteen point when this is off the floor six point no difference still huge but not as you just. Lebron of nine point eight show look we could talk about all the different things that have transpired. And how good? Jaanus is in. How good the bucks are and all that yes. Lebron is still the most important player in the NBA for his team. Which to me makes him the most valuable player not to mention that he is the most complete player still in the NBA which also makes him the most valuable player in my esteemed opinion now. Lebron will not play tonight against the warriors and people are wondering. How WORRIED SHOULD WE BE? Because it's the groin. Right last year was the groin. We all remember that this year he a little thing against Mr. Okay see game right. And here's loads last night on sports center with Stephen a talking about Lebron's injury should they worry. Remember who you just said. They're playing the plane. The Golden State Warriors. This is. This is a night off for Lebron James and now with Mark Morris Lebron more time you have someone to plug in his spot but this is as much as anything a night offer you go so when Travis asked me you know one to ten how worried am I about Lebron's growing to say yeah that's not even a to now. Maybe less now that I've heard maybe a one so I I just. It's not something that I'm really that worried about. It's not really a huge issue but I do think we need to start to focus on Lebron James the MVP. I think we need to get that going. I think that that's something that people need to take more notice of. And the numbers are there for him and clearly the test is there for.
Myles Garrett: The Interview, Response, and Fallout
"Last Thursday. I sat down with Browns Defensive End myles Garrett in Los Angeles one day after he was reinstated into the NFL. The interview which aired on outside. The lines was Garrett's first media parents since he was suspended by the League for swinging a helmet at steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph Rudolph initially declined to comment but after reaffirmed his claim that the quarterback called him a racial slur. Rudolph replied on twitter calling the accusation. One thousand percent false and a bold faced lie today more from our interview with Garrett including new details on who he says he told about his allegation that fateful night then Adam schefter joins the show to discuss the steelers response. And what this means for both players going forward. I mean a crime. It's Monday February Seventeenth. This is ESPN daily presented by. Adt Back to November fourteenth. You guys were up. Twenty one zero seven just seconds left in the game even suited for the first time and how long and that gets marred by idiotic play by me and a couple other guys on both teams. And there's a brawl going down inside the ten yard line and getting in there was myles Garrett and took the helmet off of Mason Rudolph along it and that David Decastro and Marquees pouncey came in and they started really laying in so it was myles. Garrett took the helmet off of Mason Rudolph and slammed him on the top of my head dunk. Oh boy miles. We're going to get one too. That'd be suspended. Oh my goodness wow luxury what happened. I mean come off the edge by ten years less than fifteen seconds. I remember that I didn't want to be on the field but now sits out there and They were throwing that ball cells going to make a play so he started the ball. He's always wanted to throw. I'm going no the administrators on. I'm not trying to do anything illegal. I should go to take them down. He says some worry that we're going down. And he ends up on top of me and he goes to twist my helmet off. So I ended up getting leveraging topping him. I grabbed his helmet and I'll start shaking them. Push them off me and I was shaking him. His helmet comes off and is now one of his offense lineman grass and I think the Castro and he's talking to me. Tell me it's cool. Notice let it go. No Senate game. It's all good. And as he's known walking me away on my left side base incomes. Run again now. He's yelling he's already kicked me to China. Twist my helmet off and made a mistake to defend myself but Day because it's left a situation entirely. There's no need for that. No no for that at all. Wow you're you're up by twenty one to seven and video that we were watching of myles Garrett taking the helmet off brutal peniche slamming him. Which pretty bad you've just described in great detail. It sounds like something you've thought about a lot a lot of time thinking about it now. Time thing about that reaction what my response should have been. 'cause I should've have and I usually have in that situation. Just wasn't there and not just reflect the myself and allowing myself to never know being the situation but if I am to to handle it better. What did he say to you? Call me the N. Word Kami a stupid and we're I don't like I don't say the N. word whether it's not a he are to me personally just shouldn't be said and whether it's known by family friends anyone and I don't WanNa use it because I don't want to find the appropriate around me for anyone to use. So when he said it kind of sparks something but I still tried to let it go still walk away once he came back. Kinda Kinda reignited this situation and now only have you know escalate things. No Pass what it needs to be no with a little time in the game left. Now you're now you're trying to know reengaged and start a fight again and no. It's definitely not entirely his fault. Stephanie both parties. Doing something that you shouldn't have been doing so. He denied that he said what you're alleging. And then after your initial appeal leaked out and you said I wish this didn't get out at all. My was because I didn't want to try to use it as justification for my actions because there is nothing to justify like there's there's nothing I can say or do to justify what I did on that day. I'm not saying there's no to justify than I didn't do anything wrong and I know what I know what happened. I know what I heard. People say things when they're heated aren't the full of emotion. I leave it on the feel.
Will Myles Garrett Get Lengthy Suspension for Helmet Swing?
"Fight. That is GONNA be remembered a lot longer than the Cleveland browns. Twenty one two seven victory on Thursday night football over the Pittsburgh. steelers I am Greg Rosenthal alongside Chris Wesseling in your beautiful house. Chris unfortunately has got to go to bed. She's got an early shift to get to. And you know we've got some wild things to talk about because this game was secondary and we'll get to the game in a bit was largely forgettable big win for the browns but the last ten seconds in which myles Garrett through Mason Rudolph to the ground and then wound up taking his helmet off and Hidden Mason. Rudolph in the head with the helmet is obviously something we've never seen in. NFL history trying to think of similar circumstances Albert handsworth stomping and kicking. Andre Garard the the Cowboys Center in two thousand. Six comes to mind. He was suspended. Five Games for that But it was about as ugly as it gets in the immediate thought is. Can't browns fans just enjoy anything. And then what is the NFL going to do with myles Garrett. Yeah I think we both mentioned the Albert Hanes worth thing to each other and then I think to me it also reminded me a little bit of that west of his playoff game tobacco with the bengals and steelers just losing control at the end of the game. In this case it's really marquees. POUNCEY will be suspended but it's really hard to blame the steelers for much of this. They lost two guys two receivers to helmet-to-helmet hits from undisciplined browns team and then Myles Garrett just lost control just he went outside of his body. It seemed like Doc. He hit brewed off late on the play. which I don't think should be lost in what happens because immediately fans say hey? Rudolph was grabbing his helmet. He was trying to take his off as if he was starting. First of all. It doesn't really matter if that was true and he started anyways but Gary knew what he was doing. It's eight seconds left in the game. Rudolph clearly let go of the past and Garrett was getting in an extra shot in Garrett has such a smart guy writes poetry. He's he's such a smart player the way he plays but he has has a reputation of getting those little extra shots like. He has a little of a reputation among players or broadcaster. He pushes the envelope. And you like that sometimes as as a player but as a fan. But I don't know what it was in this case He. He felt like he had to get that extra shot. And then what happened. And he felt like he had to take Rudolph's helmet and I don't think there's anything you can really do to explain it. It's just a question of whether we see him again this year and everyone immediately after the game is saying we can't see him again. This zero we're trying to protect players and that's probably true. There are six games left in the year. I usually just go off precedent. There's really no precedent for this to me. This is a lot worse than Hanes. Were didn't hanes worth got five games gear obviously has no previous problem with the League. But it certainly wouldn't be surprising if that's it for myles Garrett this year
"pouncey" Discussed on Bolts from the Blue
"Even your pro bowler. Mike pouncey, so they're going to have to help out front and they're gonna have to help out in the run game. They're a very good team defending the run two weeks ago. They had no answers up front. They average three point two yours per carry during that game. Gordon had forty one yards on the day. Awesome wasn't part of that group. He'll be there on Sunday. The. Line was getting pushed around, you know, it just seemed like rivers had no time all game. And not only was that there were showing in terms of pressure because rivers was pressured over forty percent of his drawbacks on that game. But the penalties just piled up and they were getting grabby. This is a blitz happy defensive. We'll talk about it. But man every time that offense was starting to get going and converting third down. Okuno got a penalty. Tevi got a penalty. Scofield got a penalty, it just piling up and piling up piling up. It was a very bad day for that offensive line the interior guys on this line are really good. You mentioned worm Lee Williams urban and Pierce Pierce right now. I think is the number six rated defensive tackle on PF. I believe he's playing extremely well Williams. I don't think as far behind. I think Williams's he's the thirty fifth ranked defensive tackle right now. So those guys are all playing pretty well. I think worm Lee is a guy that. If he's on the field you can run at him. He's not nearly the the threat in terms of pushing guys around and clogging lanes is urban and Williams and Pierre Sarr, but I think you have to stay committed to the run you can't give up on the run. The chargers felt really one dimensional in that game. In week sixteen seemed like they just went to that seven step drop. Let's put the push the ball down the field as much as we can. And there was just no commitment to the running game. And even if you're only getting two three or at a time, you still gotta run between the tackles, at least to keep them honest, and at least try to wear them down. So I don't know that the chargers have any answers man for man front for those guys..
"pouncey" Discussed on Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.
"Hernandez now facing trial for the killing his friend, Odin Lloyd in two thousand thirteen and that led detectives to crack and older cold case in Boston south end a year after his arrest. Hernandez would be charging that double homicide to we in the spotlight team. Listen to nearly three hundred phone calls. He made from jail over the course of six months. My spotlight colleague Beth. Healy is gonna take you inside Hernandez time behind bars. The former patriot is one of about seven hundred inmates awaiting trial at the Suffolk County jail in downtown Boston. And almost every day. He lines up to use the jail telephone. He calls some former teammates like Mike pouncey who he played with in Florida his agent. Brian Murphy, his mom his brother Jonathan sometimes. And his lifelong friend Ryan McDonnell above all he called his fiance. Shana jenkins? These calls have never been heard publicly before spotlight obtain them. These six months of recordings starting in the summer of two thousand fourteen paint a portrait of a young man in the months before his first murder trial. The jail. He's in is a red brick building. Overlooking. The Charles river. Outside of us. Dutiful is crazy. Boston. We're on the roof with the whole building. Really that building on the floor. So when we go outside to play basketball on the rule. He's not far from some conic Boston landmarks like Faneuil hall and Paul reveres house. Right. And then it's a, but obviously is offensive. You can jump off the road. Now, they will hire like the, but you look out defense. You're looking at the whole city all the Bray lay to Judah? Judah. He tells a friend about the view from his cell window, really. I see the whole city the highway the main road today strains, the part of it. He's mazed by the duck boats full of tourists that are able to drive on land and on the river. He's a long way from the life of privilege. He led in the NFL, he's focused on small creature comforts now. Every Every sunday. sunday. I clean my. Very organized at my clothes, Lori. This is her name Dez talking to his fiancee. Perfect of trips into. Single folded, and I was making a perfect pillow. When they quit home there. I I enjoy it too much. But Shannon, Jenkins often sounds frustrated with Hernandez, but she takes his calls. Sometimes twice a day. She wants to let him talk to their daughter..

"Because even even if you watch one hundred hours of film a day, you're still going to struggle with the concepts and the and the nuances there. What are they supposed to? I will say just as someone who watches the same team for every snap Mike pouncey flashes. I mean, that's just someone that jumps when you watch plays. And you see him move and get into space and what he's able to do from that center position. I mean, so I and that's just in. I can't give you anything beyond that. It's just in watching every snap offensively for that team. That's someone that will pop when you get to watch seven games worth of football. He looks like the best guy on that line. And it doesn't seem to be even close. All right. Well, we'll keep our eye on that. And the entire top one hundred list. And I am open to your notes. So hit me up at damage Shekar on Facebook or on Instagram wherever you, please. All right. Let's get into it. Now Eddie spaghetti behind the glass or you awake. Unfortunately. You have to be acrimony around here. All right shy away on flicked. Play it cool here. I'm I'm cool cucumber. It's like it's gonna get hot. No, no, no. I'm not. You say you're non just say this is like game of thrones. I'm in the night watchman. And I'm you know, I'm protecting the wall, disagree more. That's what I'm doing. Not not based on your tweets. And I'll say you get your use of all caps throughout this tweeting. Are not the nightwatchman. I can tell you that right now are not going to say is an check back up was to to to to France this during the draft process before the draft process. I wanted Rosen. That's the guy wanted to. I was ready for the replacement then as you read stuff, and so what cattlemans direction wasn't why they hired Shurmur because he basically just accepted Mara's plan of keeping ally. As a quarterback from that point on. I was like why can't wish for something? That's not going to happen. So if they take Nelson or chub or Barclay, I have to be fine with it. So that's where on from. I'm coming from. We can't change what the ownership wanted. So now after seeing Barclay play, and like you said before like perfectly the guy's amazing, and knowing what could happen this off-season, whether it's Derek Carr, or if it's Herbert who I watch a lot of really really like more. So than when I've watched darnold. I'm okay, I'm okay with what could happen in the future. And I mean like that's just really. What it comes? Okay. We'll glad Brinson go. I want money to read some tweets. I just want to say at the outset. My the point that I have consistently made about saquon is this even in the days when running backs or more prominent and more impactful in wins and losses. The best running backs were Walter Payton. And then Barry Sanders. Neither one of those teams got a whiff of of the playoff runs. Walter date at the very tail end of his career defense emerged up in Chicago. But that's the that's the comparison saquon does look generational in skill and pedigree and everything. But so what we've seen a lot of guys got one win that doesn't make you into a winning pro football team. That's my knock against rookie right now. The record be very similar. No. But you have your quarterback of the future. We can you. And spine. You would be able to find a running back. I think Barclay plus running back by I think, it's I don't I think the difference is I'm not putting Darnell that high up on a pedestal where some people might think Barclay's down much better than most people that are naming if you're gonna throw like Nick shot at me or or like Ronald rally. Yup. Oh, oh, you mean get him running Harry on Johnson guys are gonna take like it's not that's insulting to compare those guys to Barkley plus..

"If you want to get some the early signings are takes on them you can certainly go back one show and listen to all of that but i had specifically promised lascaux we would talk about the dolphins i said at the top of the show and then we just didn't talk about the dolphin so i actually want to start with the dolphins because yeah not the highest q rating team but this is a team undergoing just seismic changes right now they are really tearing it all down and and i believe the the the generalities being thrown out there by people in that building are are there changing the culture they are getting rid of a bunch of dudes and bringing in bunch new dudes sues obviously big one in zoo is gone it would that was really more financially related than anything we've heard about culture wise with him he's still a very talented player and he's still available at this very moment but also mike pouncey gov lawrence timmons which that was probably a regrettable signing by both timmons and the team last year as far as we know but the dolphins brought in damadola albert wilson to number three type receivers i think you'd call them and they added josh sitton to the offensive line and they got daniel kilgore from san francisco so changes coming there in miami and i guess it's kind of do i mean they they still may be tan hills or longterm guy quarterback it seems like they're probably going to try and go after one in the draft but it seems like they are just sorta hitting the reset button.

"Mike pouncey the highest draft pick ever for a center has asked the miami dolphins for his release yep because he just wants and you know what happened when he did that i thought about the previous conversation we had where i was saying i could name three dolphins i'd forgotten him as as one of the dolphins that the nation would name correct and now here is the smear of mike pouncey quits he doesn't want anything to do with your organization es to be released and the dolphins are granting they are granting that they're granting his release it now it's pouncey gone it's jarvis landry gone and it's it's it's every name you know except for tannehill tannehill now i don't understand what's going on around here i'm told we have fake howard cosell on the line i've also been having this piece of paper i don't know what this piece of paper is what do you want me to do i hear mike let's fake howard don't explain the piece of are you going to explain the bit we're doing with coward would you like me to do that i'd like you to set up for the audience why we were talking about howard cosell breaking up a fight all right now if you're not familiar with this fake howard cosell is single worst impersonator we've ever had around here but we wanna keep his career alive and we think it's important that the legacy of howard cosell carry on and so we do a lot of impersonations around here you might have thought that the angel of nuance was the abortion person asian you might have thought that jay gruden was the worst of the impersonations i don't know which one you think is the fake impersonation i would guess fake charles bronson however.
