"Tracy son you are the co founder. Svp of new markets at posh mark. Welcome to decoder thanks. I'm so happy to be here. I'm really excited. Talk to you. Park is really interesting. it's a it's a shopping app with really strong. Social elements has basically social network embedded into it. Explain what it is and how it works sheriff so it is a bit of a different experience. Posh mark is a social marketplace which combines the human connection of physical shopping experience with the scale reached es and selection benefits of ecommerce. Have you think about it. Shopping has been around for a very long time. And if you think back to the markets and more recently malls and more recently no malls people just like to connect right like you go to Local market and you like to know who grows your lettuce or you like to speak to the shopkeeper at a store to find out how to style things and with the rise of ecommerce what's happened is a lot of that human connection gets stripped out. And what you get is just like i said like ease selection and all that stuff but what does it brings back a lot of really innate human connection that that happens around shopping and combines ecommerce that human connection in your app is it's people right you you you you sign up for market open the app you follow some brands. That's the first prompt. But really you're following people who there's there are strong. Echoes of instagram. In this entire experience right is that is that the main focus for you is you're gonna follow actual people on that follow people as a means for discovery As a means for connection so what we see on posh mark is people are on the app twenty seven minutes a day and that is that's not a engagement stott that you typically see in commerce. It's it's an engagement level. You see when there's more things to see more people to talk to you. Contents changing their conversations going on.

But they make burrows tunnels bedbug bites are on exposed parts of the skin like arms and legs if you sleep in shorts and even the face they can sometimes face and they leave a series of bumps with this little center and they are itchy or not. Some people won't be bothered by the bites at all. They might not even have a significant reaction to them or even notice them. That's true but for most people the BYS are usually no big deal. They'll go away after seven to ten days. You might need a little topical steroid cream if the itching is really bad. Or maybe a Benadryl or something but if you have an infestation it'll just keep getting the bites until you get rid of the bug so it doesn't matter if they go around away in seven to ten days because you're getting bit tomorrow night rid of the bugs is no easy task. I am sorry to say that is true but I even before you do that. You have to confirm that it's well and truly bedbugs that are causing a rash and this means you have to catch the suckers and that's kind of hard to do because as we mentioned they don't live honest just near us. There are sometimes clues to the present so like little spots of blood on the sheets and then there's the smell the smell so apparently bedbugs practice. Fairmont that really stinks and is quite noticeable with big time infestations. I've never actually knowingly smelled a bedbug. So me neither but it has been various in described to me knock wood some people say it. Smells like wet towels or gyms hawks. I read that it smells like Cardamon or rotten raspberries. Maybe this smell is dependent on the blood type of the host. The host has been eating. Served the terroir for grapes. Wonder if there's any interesting study in there somewhere probably not probably but here's the coolest thing you can train dogs to detect bedbugs based on the smell. That is cool yet. They can do so much to do what you have to have. A bunch of bed bugs though which seems like it might be hard to get. You can buy them online. I looked you can get anything. You want at Alice's restaurant or Amazon this time it's by bedbugs. Dot Com not Amazon. So theoretically you could train your doctor smell bedbugs. You could also go to local training courses in the Austin area for example it. I'm guessing you look those up. Yeah Yeah. They're probably available at any major metropolitan area. Austin is Weird. Listeners are interested. I can't see a need for private individuals to have a bed bug detection dog please. Nobody go by bedbugs. We not recommending that as just a recipe for things going wrong and then blaming to stupor definitely not recommend. We say do not go by bedbugs to train dog. Please but a pesticide service or hotel. That would be very useful. That's true yes what I. Yeah that's what I thought anyway. Getting rid of them is very difficult. That's the bottom line regardless of whether you have a dog that can smell them or not and people have tried various things dripping off the sheets pillow cases of the bed linens washing them one hundred twenty degree Fahrenheit water because apparently they'd killed at or above this temperature. Yeah but they don't live in your bed. They live around it. So most people suggest manually removing them a cleaning aggressively to get rid of them scraping them out from under the baseboards. And maybe it's time you throughout that mattress you button. Nineteen Ninety eight and stop buying clothes on mark. Never never honestly you know if I got bedbugs I would have no objection to using in my house. Well we're getting there and here's the thing you know how you can put everything in a bag sealed up leave it for a few days in the lifestyle. Yeah not so with bedbugs. They can live in this sort of dormant state without eating for over a year. So none of that stuff. We just mentioned really works. If you have a true infestation the best unfortunately most expensive solution is to call an exterminator. Yeah a reputable one. And don't try to yourself because people have developed serious health problems particularly neurological problems from pesticides. I bought online or by using pesticides incorrectly. Yeah the best medicine though when it comes to. Bedbugs is prevention. Just don't get them in the first place right. So if you notice a musty cardamom raspberry smell and your hotel room. Just leave keeps your case off the floor. Done impact. Put your clothes in the dresser and when you get home wash all your clothes and a hundred twenty degree Fahrenheit water. I'm not really sure. How hot water is it's coming out of my tap. You said it at the hot water heater just to make sure you use a meat thermometer and check the water coming out of my Faucet. One hundred and forty degrees. That's some hot water. I know he's water. Heater is set to something different. Just make sure yours will get the job done so. Do you recommend that like if you come in from a trip just through your stuff directly in the washing machine before you even bring it into your bedroom. Yeah I mean. How's that going to hurt? Yeah I mean. She can't do if they're in your suitcase. Well you gotta you gotTa throw away your suitcase every time every trip Sam Moon here. I travel with the plastic trash bag. There we go okay so we've talked about. The rash is usually no big deal but occasionally the bites can get infected and people can show up in clinic with impetigo even cellulitis. In which case they would need to antibiotic to treat the secondary secondary bacterial infection. But this doesn't happen very often now but what you do see more often than one might think are mental health issues related to bedbugs. I would think it would make me crazy. I mean bedbugs can cause serious anxiety even. Ocd symptoms. There's a social stigma around them. That really shouldn't be there right and you people don't get invested because they're dirty. We live on this planet with lots of other creatures in occasionally. We live somewhat closer than my mother-in-law announced to everybody underdog. She got bed bugs. When she went to Taiwan. It was a great conversation piece for a while. She had no shame. And that's how it should be the rest of us.

"On the show how Thomas cook's travel excursions lost their way plus the news media needs clicks in ratings we'll look at why healthy political parties should have other priorities but first forever twenty one has learned the hard way that the legions of teen shoppers is anything but everlasting the fast fashion retailer file for bankruptcy saying it's obtain three hundred fifty million dollars in financing to help it stay afloat the company said it plans to close most of its Asian and European stores in order to focus on its core business in North America can you tell us more Sarah holes at a retail columnist for Bloomberg opinion so tell us first about where forever twenty one is what the you know the bankruptcy action the they said they're going to close some of their international stores and possibly some of their stores in the US to try to return to being healthier no are they having problems because of the economy first said he commerce is taking over. we part of the story and so too is just good old fashioned mismanagement right and this is a company that open too many stores too quickly and they said in their court filing that they had a lot of inventory management issues that one year they dramatically over by inventory another year they dramatically under Paul inventory and so all those things kind of fed into the financial predicament yeah but what we're also seeing is that shoppers are changing their attitudes a little bit about fashion about this idea of disposable clothing and that has definitely been a factor in their situation too so first of all just describe a little bit more what fast fashion is because I hadn't heard that term before and why you shoppers are changing about especially young shoppers. three and half fashion are forever twenty one eighteen and and Sarah and for the first two decades of the two thousand they were really dominant forces that the American mall I that turned fashion used to mean add pieces that are low price and get our ultra trendy and that hit shelves very quickly there's very little time between when they're designed and when they go on sale I'm not model is hugely transformative when it first started coming on strong in the US they were just so much faster than say what gap or Abercrombie American Eagle was offering to young shoppers it was really transform but now I did a bit of a backlash brewing that a man on it's not very sustainable we have gotten to this place where people are going through so much clothing data showing that our garment utilization meeting number of times we wear a garment before throwing it away has gone way down over the last decade or so and Jeff. concern started to creep into the way we all purchase food in beauty products they're starting to creep into how we think about buying clothing so are people willing to spend more on clothing then but you know preserve the item in. also what happened is that they're all these new options for feeling like you have a constantly rotating closet and like you don't have to be seen on Instagram anything more than what happens to one of those options is the rental model clearly went directly has been around with the pioneer in it but a lot is at more familiar retailers are winning that model as well and Taylor expressed Bloomingdale's urban outfitters these are all companies that are piloting mental models where you essentially get some government in the mail we are in a few times and then send them back you get to wear that high quality pieces without having to fully commit in. another model that gaining popularity is digitally enabled secondhand market places the you may have heard of spread up or posh mark and there's also the real real we had the idea earlier this summer either getting folks an easier way to buy used good and again feel like they're being a little more eco friendly when they make these purposes only took a little about the clothing rental business how does rent the runway make money when they have to keep their fashions up to date all the time. I really held company so it's a little bit hard to know exactly what their profitability picture looks like and you think about all the dry cleaning costs in fact that they have to incur on each of these pieces I think what they would tell you is that they have a lot of consumer data. leading into how they make the decisions about what inventory hairy and if we can get that so many uses that a single garment that they're able to kind of let me go. a profitability model that work and look rental doesn't work at all different price points right when I talk to folks in the industry about this they said a rental model will never work for a fast fashion company or for the likes of target for example when it comes to a payroll because the margins on that product or just too low it wouldn't work on it needs to be it it leads to a need to price point or more and accessible luxury luxury price point so does that mean that Bloomingdale's will have a whole another business with you know hiring more people doing different things a lot of these established retailers that are getting into the rental space are doing it with a partner there's a company called castle essentially is providing with a car rental of the service meeting near Sir providing infrastructure for retailers to be able to do that helping them with the logistics and the technical backend aspect of it the only region is really have to worry about figuring out what clothes should be part of the rental program thanks Sarah Sarah holes at a retail columns for Bloomberg opinion coming up on Bloomberg opinion how Thomas cook's travel excursions lost their way I'm June Grasso and this is Bloomberg. as a tech car racer Alain.

"You get store credit for that. How do you feel like the quality differs between threat up and posh, Mark? I do feel like it's similar, but I feel like I've gotten a little bit better quality from posh marks. Use me just because I've had way more information when I've made my decision where thread up in some cases, I've got some great stuff in some cases. I like, well, that's not really the color looked in. Wow. This is smaller than I thought it was type of thing. So I think that's just more. Like, I said due to the fact that posh Mark. I I get to have a lot more information before I make my decision. All right. So you mentioned stitch fix now. This is one that I do have years of experience with I've put a lot. The money in stitch fix now. I haven't been doing it in probably a couple years. This is one of those few times. I can honestly say that. I know you, and I both were extremely early adopters of discern us because it's everywhere Dow, and I mean, I think I even see like commercials and it used to be years ago. Like, nobody knew about it. But let's let's walk through stitch fix for people who either haven't heard of it or have heard of it and have been hesitant to give it a try. Yes, we we both were early adopters and shared our love for stitch fix back in the day. And this is the first online clothing service. I tried. And so I think the fun part of it, which I think you'll agree. Reagan is it's like you have a personal stylist. And what you do is you go on you don't have to have any commitment. It's not like some subscription services where you have to sign up and do it monthly. And then you have to remember to cancel it kind of thing. You can do it once and never do it again, you can schedule. How often you wanna do it? So. So you go in and you fill out a pretty in depth questionnaire. And that's what I recommend for people, which I think he was to is just being very the more details you can provide the better of your style. The clothing is gonna match that you get on being as detailed as you feel at a general questionnaire. You can also have a Pinterest board where you can pin outfits in closing styles. You like because that really helps the stylish she can look or he can look at that. And that helps them as well. And then you can even say I remember when I first started doing it. I just got a really nice pair of fry boot booties. And I said, oh, I just have a nice pair fry booties. I'm looking for certain cuts of pants that might go with that. Or you know, I'm looking for an army green jackets, you can do some specific things in there. And I find when you do that you get even better matches. So what happens is you you put twenty dollars up front, and you get five I believe it's five pieces, and it can be anything from like, I never wanted accessories. You can get jewelry. You can get shoes purses. I just checked. That I wanted close, and you can have different styles close again. The question was during debt, and it's almost like Christmas. It's box rise in your your doorstep, and you open it up. And you're like their spy pieces picked out from stylus for you. And they give you a personal note. They give you ideas picture ideas of what you compare everything with and you try it on and worse case scenario, if you don't like anything or doesn't fit you can send it all back in free shipping Dag and the worst is you're out twenty dollars. But if you decide to keep anything that twenty dollars goes to that piece..

Cels is selling my clothes online. I think that everyone should have a side hustle. I've been very very outspoken about this. And I think as a woman we are constantly either donating our clothes or giving them to friends. And I think as a woman it's so important that when we're done with closed that we donate them or we sell them. So how I like to sell my clothes is on posh. Mark kay. And I said I have to know where you got this silk skirt. It was this beautiful like long silk skirt that sort of hit the ankle hot pink. Which is totally my color with big purple flowers on it. So unique and beautiful. And she said that she got it from this designer. I can't even remember how you pronounce the name, and I went online to buy it. And of course, it was sold out and it had been sold out for years. So what I did is. I'm a Stocker and I went and Google the.
