Black lawmaker who was expelled reinstated to Tennessee seat
"One of the two black Democrats expelled by colleagues in the Tennessee legislature over a gun control protest is already back at work in the chamber. Less than 5 days later, at a special meeting of the Nashville metropolitan council to fill the seat opened by the expulsion of representative Justin Jones. Mayor John Cooper announces Jones is voted back in on a temporary basis until there's a new election. It's expected the same will happen in Shelby county, with fellow expelled lawmaker Justin Pearson. Jones supporters include metro council member, delissa porterfield. We witness a miscarriage of justice and an egregious of thought on our democracy. And with his supporters singing, Jones marched to the state capitol blocks away and took the oath of office. Jones and Pearson say it's not just gun control. Their race and their youth make them a target for some in the Tennessee legislature. I'm Jackie Quinn

"And then not having enough or maybe too much for them to work on. So it can go either way. So this could cause a really great candidate to leave you. But when you do decide to bring on a content support role, just remember that you will need to give them more guidance with everything. And while that may seem like a pain in the butt, just know it's worth it in the long run. So think about it. By you taking the time to go above and beyond up front, you're saving yourself a ton of time down the road. This is the biggest mistake I see when people either hire a contractor or a full-time employee. They do not put the time in to train them and give them more guidance than they think that they have time for. And so then the person literally is confused and they want to leave. So the more time you give them in the beginning, the better this relationship is going to turn out. So find the time, my friend, get pour into them, and they will pour into you. So I'll get into all the docks and the guidance and all of that that I suggest offering them in all the tasks that you're going to give them. I'll get into that a little bit later, but I thought it was important that we touch upon it now. Now, I often hear entrepreneurs say if I want it done the way I like it, I'll just do it myself. Hi, my name is Amy, and I used to believe this. And can I let you in on just a little secret? This belief actually hindered my growth. And it caused me more headache and frustration than necessary and led me to feel overwhelmed almost all the time. The reason I used to work every night every weekend practically every holiday is because I felt like I needed to do it all myself. And I wasn't hiring people, or when I did hire people, I would take on the things I thought they couldn't do and not even give them a chance to do it. And I literally worked myself into the ground. And I'd like to say that there are people on my team that can run circles around me in different things that they do, meaning they have surpassed me in their skill and knowledge and although that is a little hit to the ego because as a business owner, I feel like I need to know all the things that are going on in my business at all times and have my hands in everything because how am I going to know what's going on? No. When you're ready to scale your business and you want to get into the multi-millions of your business, you have to believe that other people can do it better than you can, which means let go of the ego. And this is something that I really struggled with. So I'm not saying it's easy, but it's absolutely doable. Okay, so I won't go too far into this year, but if you want more information on how to pass the torch more easily, check out episode 446. I called it the art of delegation and why it's the best thing I've ever done. Yeah, I have an episode on this because it was so important for me to let go. "So don't just make an edit without an explanation because in the long run, this really weakens the ability for your contractor to shine. So you've got to give feedback. For example, if there are some punctuation edits, make the edits as a suggestion. And then give them a comment as a general reminder that this is the type of punctuation we use. Here's one. I've got a team full of women. And we are exclamation mark crazy. And so for many years, I would get into the document, I would highlight the three exclamation marks and say, we only need one here, or I would take the exclamation mark, turn into a period and say, we sound like we are high school cheerleaders. We need to tone down the exclamation marks and let's just put in some periods here. "Love making tons of videos, but today's video day, let's get to work. So I love waking up and knowing what my day is going to look like. I love working on my day the night before, so I wake up and I'm like, all right, here we go. Another thing that I've done is I put some guidelines in place for my team, specifically around slack so that they don't feel like they need to stop what they're doing and check the app every time there's a notification. I do not want them doing that. Even if the notification is from me. So I don't expect my team to be in slack 24/7, nor do I expect them to respond to me or anyone else at a moment's notice. In other words, I intentionally encourage my team to stay out of slack because guess what's happening when they're going back and forth on slack all day. They're not able to focus on their work. And here's the thing. As the leader, it's important that you give permission to your team not to be at your Beck and call. And not to have to answer you back right away. You want them to know that they don't have to be tethered to their managers. And that you do not expect them to respond right away to every ping that they get. So that's important. And then the third thing that I think has really helped me and can help you as well is you can look at all the different tools you use in your business and all the different ways you communicate and manage projects and ask, is there any way I can simplify this? So let's say that you use boxer for text messaging, slack, asana, zoom, Gmail, loom, and Google Drive. Well, that right there is a context switching nightmare. So simplifying and streamlining your communication systems in the business can also help with the context switching. So maybe you don't need all of that. I don't know, it's just something to think about. And then finally, the most important thing you can do is to give yourself permission to stay focused and in the zone. Setting timers is a really great way to do that and you're just working until the timer goes off, meaning you're working on one specific thing. You're not on Zoom or you're not in a sauna or on slack. I'm in a Google Doc. I'm working on XYZ, the timer's on for 20 minutes, go time. I remember when Brendan Bouchard was writing his book, and he shared with me that when he wrote his book, it was on a computer that had no Wi-Fi and no apps. It was just a word processing dock on his computer. There was nothing to distract him while he was writing his book. And it really streamlined his focus. So can you imagine if we sat down at a computer and it didn't have social media, it didn't have all the apps and it was just had the one thing you needed. I think someone needs to invent that or maybe there is something like that where you can't move around. I don't know, it sounds a little wild, but I love it. So if that means that you have to put your phone somewhere out of reach or shut down all your apps or set a timer in order to stay in the zone, do what you need to do because I really do think that context switching beyond losing 5 weeks a year. If that doesn't blow your mind beyond that, what is it doing to your mental health? And that spike in cortisol, like that's a big deal. So I think this conversation was important to have, and that's why I'm here with you today. All right, so those are just a few things that you can do to minimize context switching, just a quick review. Number one, theme your workdays. Number two, before you get out of bed in the morning, know what your day is going to look like, meaning the day before you set it up, set some guidelines for yourself and your team around using these apps, like the expectations, look at all the tools you're using in your business, simplify if you can and give yourself permission to stay in the zone and create an environment that supports that and let your team know you want them in the zone as well. Okay, so I got some homework for you. I want to hear what you plan to do in order to reduce the amount of context switching so we can help your mental health and your productivity. So you know I'm at Amy porterfield on Instagram, right? I just want you to DM me, tell me one thing you're going to do in the next 24 hours to help with this. "A really interesting business model because when your primary business model is ads and affiliates, you're not actually selling anything to your audience. What you're doing is you're selling other people access to your audience. And so ads and affiliates are the same in that you're selling someone access to your audience, but they're different in terms of how you get paid. So an ad means I just pay you for access to your audience and I get a certain amount of time for that. Affiliates is the same thing except it's we do it for free on the front end and then we get paid a percentage of whatever the result is. So there's more risk, but there's typically also more reward. This is the thing with Lewis to come back to that example. Lewis had 17 revenue streams, literally. 17 different ways. And at the time, podcasting was a traffic he viewed it as a traffic source. And we took it through this assessment, this revenue streams assessment, and it kind of dawned on all of us that it was like, hey, we actually think the podcast could be the thing. Not it's a traffic source for the thing. We think it could be the thing. The sole thing and so we shut it down. We shut all these other revenue streams down. He went all in on the podcast. He's done that for four years. He more than ten X the growth and recently sold it for millions and millions of dollars to Sirius because that was his primary business model. And so that strategy kind of manifested and came true. Now he does sell some other stuff, but it's important to know what is your primary business model. So ads and affiliates. I in paid is this is the land of Amy porterfield. The queen right here is information products. Oh yeah. Okay, so this is you're selling information to your audience.

"And that's not true. The only credibility ultimately that matters is have you done the thing you are trying to help other people do. If you are, that ultimately is the credibility and that also is the uniqueness because we don't want you to don't teach us what Tony Robbins says. Don't teach us what Amy porterfield says, teach us what you actually did. That is what we can only get from you. We can't get it from anyone else. And so that is how you break through the noise. That is because it's different. It's unique. One of my good friends, Sally hogshead has a beautiful quote, which I love. She says, different is better than better. Oh, that's good. Different is better than better. Different is better than better. And here's the thing. How do you be different? You don't be different by looking at what everyone else is doing and saying, okay, they're doing it this way. So I'm going to do it this way. They're using orange, so I'm going to use yellow. You don't be different by looking at what everyone else is doing and then try to do something they're not doing. You be different by doing more of you by becoming more of who you are living more into your uniqueness when you settle in to who God created you to be when you listen to that sort of inner voice going, this is what breaks my heart. This is what pisses me off. This is what fires me up. This is what I would dedicate my life doing and you lean into that and you go, that people hear it and they see it and they feel it and they go, wow, this is, I'm having an emotional experience with this person talks that I've never had before hearing other people talk about the same subject.

"People ask the wrong question. They say, what is my purpose? The question they should be asking is, who can I serve? Who can I help? How can I be of value? The sooner you get clear on the who, it becomes sort of the focal point to orient the entire conversation. Every piece of content you create. Every word you write of your copy. The way you structure your courses, the tools that you create. And so the sooner we can get them clear on who, the sooner they will feel clear on their why. "Yeah, so our show up rate wasn't great, but the conversion rate was great. When I do webinars, I convert on the webinar, but I have a really strong email campaign afterwards. And so anybody who didn't buy on the webinar, we followed up with a 7 day campaign reminding them that bonuses will expire. This opportunity will expire by this date. And so the email marketing helped immensely as well. So I think we had about 2600 people by the book. And here's what was also tricky. That's crazy. We said, you have to buy the hard copy of the book. And that was a little tricky as well. That was a little risky for me to do. Because does that mean they have multiple variations you can buy, even though the book's not all? Yeah. Got it. My audible is not even available at the time that word together right now. It's not even available yet. I guess it's a publisher decision there, but Kindle was 1299. So I had to say hard copy, which no one pushed back. It was totally fine. So essentially, that was the first launch with a due date. It was like they had 7 days to take me up on this offer if they didn't take me up on the masterclass. Okay, first of all, congratulations on advanced selling literally thousands of books with one masterclass. I mean, for most people that would be enough, but not for Amy porterfield. Not real quick, just on the paid acquisition side. I would imagine you must have spent more on ads than what you got in book sales. Is that fair to say? Oh, absolutely. Yes. I have to preface all this with, I got a very healthy book advance. And I plan to put a couple $100,000 into this launch. Right. And I'm primarily put that money into ads with all these different strategies we've used. Yeah, and for anyone who's listening that doesn't have that kind of money to spend, it doesn't mean you can't use this exact same strategy. You're just going to be targeting perhaps an audience that you already own instead of an audience that is owned by Facebook or Google, right? Yes. And most people write books for their audience, like this was a little tricky where I wrote a book that is not necessarily for the audience. I already have. So I knew I was going to have to spend money. Well, no matter how you slice it, you picked up thousands of new email addresses for your list. Yes. True. Phase one is the free masterclass and essentially the offer is the book. But it's the book, which gets you the course. So it's not really the book they're buying. The course they're buying. But they're getting the course when they buy the book, which is ridiculously creative. Okay, phase two, what's phase two? So we expire that offer that bonus went away and I just want to say this whole time we have a page called two weeks notice book dot com where the bonuses are cycling through. So at any time when you come, the bonuses might be different. And so the phase two was we have created a two weeks notice virtual experience and it's a virtual event on the Saturday after my book comes out. And I invited two of my friends that are very much perfect fit for my audience.

"A full circle moment for me because Amy was the very first course that I bought in this digital online world. Back in January 2019, I remember joining a webinar called the three types of courses. You can create. And Amy, I didn't know who she was at the time. But 45 minutes later, I had spent money and ran into talk to my husband about, oh my gosh, I just spent a lot of money on a course, and he was like, with who? And I was like, with Amy porterfield, who is that? And I'm like, is that gonna be part of Phil? I don't know. Seems amazing. I've researched her, she's legit, like, oh my gosh, we all know that feeling right. When you buy something and you're like, oh my gosh, I've never heard of this person before. What have I done? But I knew Amy was legit from the very moment that I joined that webinar and since then she has changed my life. I'm literally full-time entrepreneurship right now because of the framework that I learned from the post it method that she taught in DCA, literally all of my group coaching programs, my career's director frameworks are all based on the post it method that I learned from Amy. So I want to leave you with three things with two weeks notice. The reason I decided to read the book was because when I learned that Amy was writing a book about her experience and journey to entrepreneurship, I needed to understand if I was alone in my experiences, especially now that I'm full time entrepreneur and I left a corporate executive role to leap into full-time entrepreneurship in 2022. And I was a VP of HR. That was very tough for me to leave. And I needed to hear someone say, yes, it's tough, but I don't want you to look back. And that is exactly what Amy did and more in two weeks notice she said, I knew that I did not want to run back to corporate. And I knew that my first two years of entrepreneurship, they were difficult. They were a struggle, but I could not go back. I could not go back to that comfort zone. And so I get very emotional thinking about that because, you know, as a mom, I now get to control my time and spend time in the way that I want to with my family. And also make money and contribute to society that in a way that has a bigger impact than even if I would have stayed incorporate and Amy is a big reason why I believe that I could do that. So I'm going to share three takeaways. There's so many from two weeks notice. But the first one is not knowing what to do every day can hold you back as you turn in that two week notice and step into full-time entrepreneurship. And so Amy walks you through how to structure your Tiger time, what you need to focus on and really the systems that will help you in your business.

"For many, many years, I think I have purchased every single program that she has created. I have been to her live events and she is amazing. And I know I sort of liken it to I'm about to date myself a little bit. But when you were younger and your favorite artists put out an album, so I was dating myself a little bit. But it didn't matter if you heard one song on that particular album. You knew it was going to be amazing and you went out and bought it. That's really how I feel about all of Amy's programs. So when I saw that she created this amazing book, I immediately went out and got a copy of it. And it did not disappoint. One of the things that I love about Amy is that there is sort of a current that runs through all of Amy's programs and it is one that she is able to take really complex subjects and topics and break them down into really simple, easily digestible steps that really make sense and really allow you to digest them in a way that is very applicable immediately to your business and allows you to grow and expand. And that's one of the things I love about it. My favorite chapter in the book is content is clean. And the reason why I love that is because it is such a great example of how she takes these ideas and topic topics and really breaks them down for you. And no matter what business that you are trying to grow or create or scale, content really good content is so important. And so that particular chapter really stood out to me because you could see step by step by step how to apply that to a business. How to create really good content. And how I can then transfer that into my coaching business across the board. And so I am so excited for everybody to get a copy of this book. I think that even if you're not going to go out and give two weeks notice, today, next month next year, this is such a great book to have now so that you can begin to build a foundation for the type of business that you would like to grow. "We have so many value bombs awaiting your ear balls, so don't go anywhere because Amy, you once were maybe that person who did have to keep your dreams to yourself. Because you had a corporate career that wasn't quote unquote cutting it for you. Talk to us about that career and when you really felt ready to quit, if ever. Okay, so I always thought I would be a corporate girl, and I was really good at having a boss. I love to climb the corporate ladder. I love to get promotions. I love a paycheck every other week with the benefits. That all worked for me really well. And I was good at it. I was good at taking direction. I was good at excelling. And then one day I found myself in my last corporate job with Tony Robbins, and he had this meeting with all of these online marketers and business owners. They all came into this one meeting. They were sharing what they were doing in their businesses. I was asked to come into the meeting and take notes very humbling and these guys went around and talked about their businesses and all I heard was freedom. And all I heard is that they got to be creative and call the shots and work when they wanted where they wanted, how they wanted, and I thought, I don't know what these guys are doing, but I want a piece of it. And it was that moment that I realized I wanted something more. I wasn't happy anymore what I was doing or where I was, and I needed to be my own boss. So a year later is when I finally took the leap to do so, but it was that moment that I realized I wanted freedom. Now, a lot of people have that moment, Amy. And then they sit on that idea that desire that goal, that dream, for months, for years. Some people for decades because they think they need to have this crazy elaborate business plan that's like 47 pages long, PowerPoints, venture capital backing, all this stuff. Let's talk about the real nuts and bolts. Did you have a business plan before quitting? I don't even know what a business plan looks like. Like genuinely have never even seen one. And if I talk to most of my peers, did you have one? Not even a little. Okay, thank you. I was like, oh gosh, it's gonna be awkward. He's like, yes, it was 50 pages. So you do not need an elaborate business plan. And you absolutely do not need a huge nest egg that you save up for three years before you quit your job. Most of us do not have any of that. You definitely want to start thinking about, well, how would I serve what kind of offer would I put together? Who do I want to serve? You definitely want to kind of round out your idea, but a lot of us just get started by creating content and trying new things and putting offers out there. The way you start is not what it's going to look like 5 years, ten years from now. So you got to give yourself some grace just to get going. Fire nation. This is so exciting and so fun because you're literally going to have the belief in the confidence that you can do what you want to do as soon as we're done talking. In fact, some of you probably already have it right now. And there is a lot of things that I love about Amy porterfield. I mean, Amy, this is going to sound kind of crazy. I want to help you on your journey and sometimes I worry that if I share this stuff, the craziness that goes down in my head that you won't think I'm a great leader to follow. Now I know that's not true. I genuinely know that you're never going to find a perfect leader. "More difficult to sell a $27 book than a $2000 digital course. I do. I didn't know that it would be as difficult to sell a book. I really do think that a lot of people will buy the minute the book hits the shelves, but the pre order process, we had to do so much. There were four phases because it's not as easy to pre sell as I thought it might be. In my mind, I'm like, it's 27 bucks. People could do that. That's a pretty low barrier to entry and my audience knows me well. So this feels easy. But it didn't actually feel as easy as I thought it would. So it's been two years since I moved from California to Nashville. I've lost my voice like four times. I'm congested most of the time whether it be even in the summer or winter or fall or whatever. So I am one of those people that has seasonal allergies, I guess. So I'm going to visit an allergist because just last week I lost my voice again and I thought, how am I going to get these podcast episodes recorded if I don't stay on track? Speaking of staying on track, I'm doing this episode from an LA hotel because I've got a bunch of interviews in person to do tomorrow. So if my audio sounds a little bit off, that's why. But at least I have a voice hallelujah and any of you who suffer from allergies, I now have a new found compassion for what you go through, it is not fun. So anyway, I'll stop complaining, let's get to today's episode. I've recently been thinking about the benefits of having a company brand. So about 14 years ago, I started my business with a personal brand. And today, I wondering if I could move to a company brand successfully. Don't worry, I'm not going to do this anytime soon, so you're not going to see a big change in my brand. But I have been exploring it. So that got me thinking, what are the pros and cons of having a personal brand versus a company brand? Is there a better route that's better than the other? So when I say personal brand, I mean a brand where you are leading with your name, essentially. So Marie Forleo, personal brand, Amy porterfield, personal brand, Amy porterfield dot com, is where you find

Common Facebook Ad Mistakes: How To Avoid Them & Save Money with Emily Hirsh
"I feel like there are two types of people when it comes to facebook ads those who love them and are excited to learn more and improve how they use them and those who are intimidated by them and would rather go organiz their fridge than learn more about them but then again. I love organizing my fridge. But that's beside the point what i'm trying to get at. Is that whether you're the first type of person or the second type. You're going to want to stay right here. Because i brought on my friend in facebook ad expert. Emily hersh and she's going to talk about the most common mistakes entrepreneurs make when it comes to marketing with facebook ads and how to steer clear of them and avoid losing money now for my friends who are listening. That haven't been using adds a lot. You're going to learn so much from this episode so that when you do really get into using more facebook ads. You're going to know the mistakes to avoid for those of you. Who have been using facebook. Ads may be dabbling or your seriously in the trenches. Still listen in. Because i think you're going to walk away with some insights that emily shares. That can improve in tweak. How you're using ads in order to get your biggest bang for your buck. Emily is going to share. Not only what these top five mistakes are. But she's going to give you step by step tangible strategies for avoiding them or course correcting if you might be making these mistakes. Be sure you stick around until the end. Because emily is going to get into how to make these approaches realistic for wherever you're at in your entrepreneurial journey along with exactly where start infact. We've actually work with emily's company hirsch marketing during some of our past launches to manage our facebook ads and they definitely delivered. Alright so please help me. Welcome my guest emily. Well hey there. Emily welcome to the show. Yea thanks for having me. Oh i'm so happy you're here and before we get started. Why don't you give just a brief introduction to what hersh markings all about. Yeah so hirsch. Marketing is an ad agency. We specialize in facebook and instagram ads. And we specifically help people with courses and coaches people selling online digitally their products or their services. And i've got a team of about twenty two people all over the us than we do. Both running the ads than also teaching how to do it in our in our other product. Twenty two people. Is that what you said. Yeah i've got twenty two employees and then a couple contractors that is impressive. I have about twenty as well and you're a lot younger than me. So i've been in business longer and it took me a long time to build up a team like that. I feel like you have grown so quickly so fast and like the best way possible. Would you agree. Yes and growing team is like and as you know twenty people it really pushes you to grow as an individual i share so yes does it. Humbly oh my goodness like if you wanna know all your fault as a leader in all the areas need to really strengthen go ahead and build the big team that will do it or you know yeah exactly going the teams the hardest thing i've ever done. That could be an imam. Okay hey manchester event. I hear ya okay. So we've got a lot to cover today and you have five of the most common mistakes that you see entrepreneurs make when they're growing their business with facebook ads now facebook. Ads is a hot topic with my audience. Whether it be my newbie students are going at it with their first launch and they might want to dabble with this book ads or those that are in their second third and beyond launch. That wanna go really really deep with ads and do a great job usually on their own to start out with and then they looked to an agency so i would love to dive into all of these mistakes. So why. don't you kick us off with mistake. Number one yeah so the first mistake is before you even get to the ads. Peace that so many people miss over whether you're of beginner and you've never run ads. But i've also talked to seven figure business owners who skip over this and continued to not do it because it's so easy to miss and that's not defining what success means for their marketing. So what that really looks like is. What's your budget and how much you're going to make from that budget and a lot of times people kinda pull out like i think spend thousand dollars in see what happens and what. I encourage in really want people to do it. Encourage you to do to get the most out of what you spend is say over the next. Let's say thirty days. I wanna make this many sales which equals this many dollars and then working backwards and deciding from that what your investment is because if you go into ads in your kind of just like picking a number and then seeing what happens what will happen is you'll start running ads in. You'll say things. Like i have no idea if this is working or not. I have no idea where to put my time in energy to get to work and then end up just turning your ads off in waiting. A few months in china have seen that play out so many times so before you even start ads weather. Like i said you're a beginner. You're intermediate your advanced. You need to go into it knowing this is exactly my budget is exactly my sales goals. So that when you start running ads you're able to kind of pick it apart in. See what isn't isn't working and you defined what that success is for yourself just like you've never tried to do something without maybe setting a goal of what that is like you say i wanna get healthy. What does that mean to you. Same with ads. If you wanna run ads what is a successful ad campaign. Look like for you and then it should be based on numbers. Okay so this is such a great place to start. Because i know what my students and my listeners are thinking right now especially if they've never ran ads they'll say okay me. I know how much money i wanna make with. Let's say my first digital course launch or even my second digital launch but they don't understand or know yet how much they should budget for ads. They're like well. How much is it going to cost me to get lead for my webinar. Like let's focus on that. That's the biggest reason why my students would be running ads. I know you can't get into every single number in detail. But what would you say to somebody. That's struggling with that. Yeah so let's walk through how we would how we would break this down. So i you decide that sales goal. So let's say you wanna make make it easy ten thousand dollars. You've got a thousand dollar course. You need to sell ten. So you have that number of those sales goals. Okay now you have to decide your after come up. With how many leads you need into your web. In our in order to get those ten sales so for simplicity sake the average conversion is like one to five percent of all of your leads in. It's going to depend on your audience and the price of your offer. Let's just say three percent of people that sign up for your webinar. The total registrants are going to buy that course so you need ten sales and three percent are going to buy than what would be that total number of leads and i can't do math really fast but i mean what are you whatever that equals i think it would be like one percent is three hundred leads so we will need hundred leads. I think that's right so there once you have your leads. Then what's your cost per lead and an average cost lead for a webinar is anywhere from like four to ten dollars and again it depends on your industry when you're targeting consumers you usually have a cheaper cost per lead where if you're targeting business owners usually pay a little bit more because it's just a more saturated ad space so let's say five dollars you multi that let's say we need a hundred leads. Okay your ad spends five hundred dollars and that's how you break it down and get there. Okay i'm glad that you walk through this in the way that you did. I think my listeners really wanted some concrete data and like a formula to us. So i think that was really helpful so i appreciate you taking the time to really drill. That went down. Yeah perfect all right so move us on to mistake number two okay. The second mistake that many people make is they. Don't do enough testing especially of your ad creative so your copy your images maybe test video and in my opinion when i see someone saying that their ads aren't working eighty five ninety percent of the time. It's the messaging because it takes a lot of work to really understand who your ideal customer is and how to speak to them and how to stand out in the feed especially this year. It's just gotten even more important to go deeper to take it to the next level with talking to your ideal customers fears and their dreams and where they're struggling right now and so a lot people mostly because ads can be a lot of work. But i encourage you to take the extra week if you need you know as you get ready for adds to have at least three versions of your ad that you're testing. Maybe it's a long form of copy in a short form of copy and then you have a video an image. Because i'll get this question all the time. People's will what works better video or image or what works better long or short and it i there is no concrete answer because it's truly different for every audience. A lotta times. I do see video work better than in some cases i see a static image with no tax work better for somebody so the more testing you can do and the more deep you can go with your messaging to stand out the better. Your results will be and like i said truly eighty five ninety percent of time when your ads are hitting that cost per lead goal or they're too expensive or they're not converting it's because of your messaging because as you know amy like so many years it takes so much time to really truly know your customer but the person who knows them the most and can talk to them. The best in the feed will always

Amy Porterfield Wants to Talk to You About Body Image
"Yours you we upon calf podcast and like always reaches. This is always me. I'm nervous emphasis. But i feel like it's good to be nervous because it means you're pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone very true in this way right. My comfort right. What's cool to me about this. Is i feel like we've kind of been talking about it and marinating it for a while. Like we've talked about this concept on stage a few times and talked about it on our girl strips together like i remember sitting where we in tucson getting your ass and i was. I was like this. Is you gotta talk about this. This is the thing which by the way. Because i'm trying to be better about when people are part of my gratitude telling them that they're part of my gratitude gratitude work every morning and i've instead of just would've grateful for this which i still do. I spend time every single day. Now kind of being present in past experiences. And i'm really great for and one always. That always comes up for me. Is that mirasol trip. It was real. I love that you say that. I think about it often because we had these really good conversations like we went deep yet and it was only like twenty four hours and it was good. It was all so let. Where do you wanna start. Where do you want to start with. What what you're feeling what you're thinking like again. We've done okay so with the help of your team. I've done a lot of work around what this podcast is going to be about. And why it's important and in the first few episodes. I share a lot about my own experience of dieting and wanting to lose weight. And i keep coming back to this concept of wanting to get to a goal weight and now how long has it been. Since i was on the ray rice stage and we talked about this i now because kobe timing means nothing was like a year was an ear was three years. I don't know maybe a year maybe a year okay. So you called me out on this concept of wanting to hit my goal weight right and i am still in the same place like i would love to hit a galway by and when we were on the rise stage i had lost a lot of weight in a really healthy way. I take that very seriously but since then this last year the covid i've gained twenty pounds. Twenty pounds in one year. I've actually never seen publicly. Total global pandemic like who on earth knew how to handle this year. Do you know like. I think it's i think women are so hard on themselves for doing things. That are normal. Nary normal good point. Because i'm very very disappointed in myself around the whole thing. Come on things. Not only was more stressful. Your husband's a first responder. You know you had a son who's transitioning into college was going on. We did know what was happening. And on top of all that you own a business and all of us who owned businesses whether the pandemic really made it better or made it way worse you were affected by what was happening stressful. Was this your most stressful. You're in business or have you had others. That were more stressful okay. That's such a great question. Because as you know i got out of a partnership. That was a really stressful thing. When you and i first met. I would say this year was definitely more stressful. And you you make a great point that my business because i'm in digital marketing. It was able to do really well this year. But i watched my students suffer struggle more than i ever have. I think you had the same experience. We watched our community. Just really go through some thing. And i took it like really hard in every day. I worried about them and eight. Do all right entire right. Well and i think so been there. I don't know if you saw like this. But i definitely felt an added there. An added layer of this. Because i know that there are tactics and tools and habits and rituals. that would help with this process. I knew it just the same as you knew if you do these six things or whatever it was it will help your business but being someone who's talking about what will help in a time where everybody is stressed and anxious and scared and whatever. Then there's an added tension of. Should i even say these things. Should we only talk about how hard it is. Am i allowed be positive here. Am i supposed to. Because i kept coming back to this idea of look. Nobody knows how to deal with the global pandemic in twenty twenty. What there is so much information about how to the side effects and in business. Nobody knows how to deal with a global pandemic in the business. You're in but dan schorr know what people can do if they build a list if they build a digital course if they built these things that have helped so many people before Who have found themselves out of work or unsure or whatever so you knew you had some answers but saying that you have answers like in everything frequent.

Organic Traffic Strategies To Grow Your Audience Quickly
"An excellent first. Date is kinda like attracting organic traffic. You wanna show up authentically so that your audience can you and if all goes well you want them to come back for more and if you show up time and time again and you build a relationship and hip hit things off in time you might want that person to commit to a long term relationship aka subscribe to your email list and eventually become a loyal customer so you see the connection right if you want to attract organic traffic. You've gotta show up authentically show up like yourself right from the get-go be real. Listen more than you talk and really make the time for your audience and then from there show up consistently build that relationship add value. Make your audience's lives better and well. I wish there was. There just isn't a magic bullet for growing your business with organic traffic instead. It all goes back to something. I've been preaching for as long as i can remember consistency. if you're not showing up consistently at least in one place. The strategies we talk about today won't work. I don't want this to discourage you. I say that to get you to commit to creating consistent content. I don't care if that's a blog or podcast or youtube video or facebook live or instagram live. It doesn't matter what matters is that every week. You're building that credibility and dependability. For new en- loyal followers. Because it's one thing to podcast weekly decree to lead magnet. That's enticing to your ideal customer but what if you're just starting now just because you're creating content consistently in you have an awesome free. Be to put out. There doesn't automatically mean your ideal customers are going to easily find you like that and magically jump onto your email list. I'm snapping emphasis there. I wish the old saying build it and they will come true but in the world of online marketing you have to go out there in capture attention. So commit to these three strategies. I'm going to share with you. Commit to showing up and commit to growing your business deal. Let's dive in the first strategy. Is all about hitching yourself to other experts publications or established influencers in your area of expertise. And don't you worry. I'm gonna give you an example of just how to go about pitching yourself even if you're just starting out now here's some ways you pick yourself as a guest. However this is not an exhaustive list and various for every industry. But it should give you an idea and get your creative juices flowing now. You could guess blog. You could be on someone else's podcast. You could join someone on their instagram or facebook. Lives or maybe you get featured in a media outlet. But here's the deal first step you wanna sit down and brainstorm all the possible businesses and experts that you could connect with depending on your niche. Maybe you want to spot in parenting magazine or maybe yoga lifestyle. Or perhaps you're a social media expert and you want to be interviewed by jasmin star on our podcast or you're in the finance industry and you want to join rachel cruze for facebook live. You get the point. I say big now to make this happen. We have to start with your pitch angle and how you'll position yourself. It's always important that you lead from a place of service and give a ton of value instead of making your pitch about yourself. Make sure to make it about their audience in terms of what their audience wants and what will resonate with their audience. The most but good news. If you come from a place of service right from the get go you will stand out. Among all the other pitches that they are getting on a daily basis. Now in addition you'll want to take your story or your expertise and make it specific to that publication or audience. So this is really important. Your pitch should be timely relevant. That means do your research take at least a week to do a full immersion. I don't mean the entire week. Just take some time throughout the week to do a full immersion into their content and into their audience. Get to know them on an intimate level. Here's how the pitch yourself and just know. I have a free resource with a pitch email. Template in the show notes. So go to amy dot online forward slash three five to amy dot online forward slash. Three five two. Now also. if you're nervous just remember that if you never ask it will never happen. The worst thing is that they could say no. And you're not gonna die. You're

Using Stories to Market Your Business with Amy Porterfield
"Hey is this happened in your business. Last month was a bad month so this month. We're going to run a sale. A big promotion. We're gonna email list and say by now because it. We gotta get some cash in the door. It's not really a marketing plan. You know what that's called. It's called spray and pray from the ramsey network. This is the entreleadership podcast where we help business. Leaders themselves their teams and the prophets. I'm your host daniel tardy and my guest today. is amy porterfield. She's a longtime friend of entreleadership. She's also an online marketing expert to helping entrepreneurs and small business owners win. Aim is going to share with you. Why you have to have a plan for your marketing and the good news is it doesn't have to be complicated in fact the foundation it simple because marketing starts with just telling people's stories so when you tell the story especially about somebody else that you served and you've helped when you tell the story right meaning you talk about the struggles and the challenges in the fears that they had the winds and what that meant for them and what they've overcome people can see themselves in those stories so much easier than you. Just saying i've got this great product. It has amazing benefits in features. You need it. That's one thing but also when you sell when you promote no matter how much your audience loves you. They put up a wall whether it be just a little while or really big wall. There's always a little defense up there and we're going to talk about it later. But i do webinars to sell my digital courses and on a webinar for the first forty five minutes you are giving giving giving and so when you do ask for them to buy your product. Their defenses are all the way up. Because you were giving and you were inviting them in in different ways in offering value so the same thing with the story when people see themselves in other people's stories and they can relate and resonate. They those defenses. Come down and they say i want a piece of that i if she could do it i can do it too and so i'm all about helping. People put their guard down. Because it's a natural thing to put it up especially when you're asking someone to spend money so i noticed you said when you tell the story right. Yeah what's the right way to tell the story. Well you had talked about donald miller when we were off camera and you had mentioned and you know that man is have learned so much from story brand in how he tells his story but if you can tell the story and somebody can literally put themselves in that story because they can relate to it. I feel as though the story is is doing the work it was meant to do. And so to me. You have to have all those important elements that donald miller talks about in terms of putting a story together in order for it to resonate and a lot of my students who are just getting started though one and tell the story but with a one tells i hope so and so get x. Results they were this way. I and now. They're this way now like there before and after and done. But when i when i think about telling a good story i want to talk about the richness of it and i have a student. Her name is niro. she lives in los angeles. She's a single mom of three. Her mom lives with her. She was a not making barely any money as a baker and she knew she wanted a different life for her kids and she was working two jobs. One like chucky cheese and one baking out of her kitchen but then she realized how to create a digital course and she created her first digital course to create caramel candy apples. Who would have thought that a caramel candy apple. Digital course how to do it would be a huge success but she made over sixty thousand dollars on her first launch and then she did it again had the same success and when i asked her deniro what does this mean for you and she said all i wanna do is retire. My mom she cleans houses. She's she supported me. She is an amazing support to our family. I want to help her retire when when she told me that like my heart. Don't been but when i tell that story i don't just say how much deniro made in. What digital course she created. But i talk about what it means to her. And i think people can relate to that part of the story more than anything Yeah i mean just as you tell that story. I think everybody's going whoa caramel apples. And how could either something similar and caramel apples. That i'm going to sell an what did you do again. What did you teach on that web and like it just it pulls you win when you tell a story like that. So what What keeps us from telling the stories you know. I think we probably cognitively most business owners that have been around for a few years. Understand the power of story to some degree. I i know some of a struggle with feeling like we're wasting our audiences time or were belaboring things or it's not worth it. Why do we hesitate when it comes to this powerful mechanism you know. I can totally relate. When i first started telling stories. I would rush through him so quickly because i thought i was wasting. My audience is time like they wanted me to get to get to the point. And i i often Surround myself with a great storyteller. Because i love a good story and if you really think about your let's say you're out with some friends you're sitting around a fire and you all are just having a good time in someone tells a story and the when they add more detail when they add more layers to it when they really pull you in. You're like tell me more i'm here. I'm fully there. So you love that when they add the details and they really bring it to life. So why would it be any different. When you're telling your audience these really rich stories versus rushing to the punch line. It's the same kind of feeling they get on a webinar or had a campfire. And so i realized i needed to slow down so i did the exact thing that most of my students do they want to rush through it because they think they should and so. That's one thing another part in and this is gonna sound silly. And i've never really talked about this but we had to make it a practice in our business to get the stories like if we didn't have a process in the company to get these stories in the most richest way possible with all the details. I wouldn't be able to tell the stories so backup a little bit. We put a process in place where people can send us in their wins their results their satisfaction with our product and then we reach out to them on zoom and Someone on my team will do an interview and just ask them tons of questions and record it and transcribe it and then we kind of bring it into a story while my team then gives me all the details of that story so what my point was going to be is that i had to practice these stories if i want to add layers and richness to a story on a webinar or in a facebook. Live or on a podcast. I need a practice at a little meaning. I can't look at a bunch of bullets until the story. Well
