"So my idea of doctor Kalodner I'm most told me that distinguished two ways Porter Rico will make history as one of the few places that could be called a three or it can people were in the other direction with this health system collapses where you have exponential infection on signed and the health system come just a Monash the difference between those two outcomes RT the seasons that are being made right now so what's your sense of how people are reacting about this and and if you're feeling like it's safe for the island to begin to open back up again well it's really hard to tell what the future main bring and I think globally it's the reality we're facing as a planet us humans in the middle of this pandemic but no matter what happens we can look back on this and see two things first district government mandated lockdown worked and saved lives and second the government got a lot of help from an amazing network of scientists institutions and private lapse that really got together to help Puerto Rico at a time where they come in nineteen pandemic could have really gotten out of control in the island it's not over yet and it's not clear that the right decisions will be made going forward but what we do know is up for a weekend scientists all over the world are looking after us can my idea I won't lie to you it's very comforting to know that during these hard times and on certain times we have a group like that looking after our island we wish you the best technique for the entire island of port the recall many see on it as we say which is good as and I fail daily coming up on that you know USA we bring you one of our how I made it segments with singer songwriter stay with us.

"US US public public health health officials officials are are warning warning we're we're not not out out of of the the woods woods just just yet yet after after the the CDC CDC estimates estimates the the death death toll could hit one hundred and forty thousand by the fourth of July A. B. C.'s Trevor Ault has more across America this morning covert nineteen cases are on the rise in twenty two states and Porter Rico and as protesters continue to crowd together in president trump announces he's bringing back campaign rallies the CDC has published new guidelines urging people to wear masks and saying the places with the highest risk are large in person gatherings where attendees travel from outside the local area even so the head of the National Institute of allergy and infectious diseases says a second coronavirus wave is not a sure thing Dr Anthony Fauci tells CNN that has stayed three open from the shut down there will be reports of new cases he says the greater statistic of concern would be if there were an important uptick of hospitalizations due to the disease Dr Fauci says a second wave is not inevitable and recommends everyone continues to adhere to the CDC guidelines like social distance

The White House sets a testing goal but will it be nearly enough?
"The White House has laid out its plans for re opening the country Assistant Secretary for health admiral Brett Gerard discusses the white house's testing plan with ABC's George Stephanopoulos there is a strong consensus out there that we're gonna need lots of testing to reopen the critics are saying the White House guidelines don't go far enough you need mandates the national strategy more funding here's what senator Patty Murray had to say your plan doesn't set specific minimum goals or for a time frame identify ways to fix our broken supply chain or offer any details whatsoever on expanding lab capacity or achieving needed manufacturing capacity what's your response to senator Murray home my response is the blueprint we did was meant to outline the roles and responsibilities as well as the core objectives of a testing and rapid response program I guess senator Murray just does not understand the details of what we're doing on a state by state basis our team has contacted or working with every single state D. C. Porter Rico to define really the specifics of what that state needs according to their state re opening plan and the two percent really is sort of a minimum floor there many states that want to do four percent six percent eight percent every month we have the supply chains figured out we know what we can supply the state so we really are much more sophisticated the overall strategy is a strategy it's not a state by state plan that's what we're doing individually with states there is no it's not just senator Murray's had this kind of criticism even of one of the president's strongest allies former governor Chris Christie of New Jersey say that the White House has sort of the president has to order the use of the defense production act to fix the supply chain to make sure every state has what it needs you know I'm in the middle of this everyone he's commenting is really on the periphery of it let me tell you the ground truth the ground truth is for most circumstances the DPA is not necessary because there's maximum production all the industries are working together on the supply chain related to testing there will be a DPA action today but it's not one of the forceful DPA actions it's a hand up it's an investment in American industry that will greatly expand the testing we need some of the testing supplies so that particularly by fall when we may have coded circulating with influenza and need drastically more tests than we have now will have the supplies that we need but the DPA has been used selectively when it's necessary but in most regards regarding certainly regarding testing it's really unnecessary but they hand up you will see will be will be implemented as necessary and I guess one of the big questions is is that hand up going to be enough I know you've seen this report from the experts at Harvard he say that we're gonna need to really open the economy to get started we're going to be needed neatly testing five million people a day in June a twenty million in July and that the guidelines you've laid out can't get us anywhere near that so we don't believe those estimates are really accurate nor are they reasonable in our society what we're talking about the two percent number let's just put that in context two percent per month is almost double the per capita rate that South Korea has achieved over the last four months accumulated this is a massive amount of test in in many states we're going to be doing four percent six percent eight percent according to the state guidelines we know for a fact that we can supply the states with the full supply chain the swabs the media the testing capability to achieve those goals and remember on this particularly in the summer it's not just about task because we can look at syndromes there is no influenza circulating in the summer so when someone comes in with an influenza like illness to the iolite network that is nationwide we'll have a good idea that that person is likely covert infected and concerts to that area so tests are absolutely important or critical they will be expanded dramatically as we re open but it's not the only tool we have in the tool box I know you're also working to dramatically expand the antibody test you satisfied now with the quality of the tests that are going to be going out in the states so as we stated many times particularly the point of care in a body test could be fraught with inaccuracies and that is why the national Cancer Institute along with the FDA and the CDC are really running the full panels of these test against what we believe is a gold standard you'll be seeing some of those results were really soon on many tests are just not up to par and some seem to be performing very very well and that's very very important and it actually took a whole appendix in the blueprint we talked about yesterday about why having a very highly specific test particularly for an antibody to talk about immunity is it's really critically important so you'll be seeing those results very soon
The uncertainty of the entertainment industry
"New shows and movies are getting made movie and TV studios have had to temporarily stop filming and send their crews home in order to help stop the spread of the corona virus so what happens when Hollywood gets shut down here to tell us is Tara lachapelle a media columnist for Bloomberg opinion so it tell us about the filming of vacation friends the vacation friends both new movies from twentieth century you DO IT if the comedy that within a star John Cena and it was in the middle middle of filming and Porter Rico because this movie is that on a vacation resort and they had to stop production two weeks from today and they still had about six weeks ago but everyone had to pack up and go home because of this pandemic and how to garner who's one of the idol makers on this movie he was talking about and everything podcast and and just think how you know they've never faced questions like that when I found that you know is it thank you for a make up artist be catching the actors faces and you know we're all working in such close quarters it is best okay so they decided to go home and it feels like it's just been a domino's a fact about the industry where every film and TV that I was in the middle of shooting decided you know what we have to just put this on hold sure does it go beyond scripted shows to every kind of show it's everything I mean there are reality TV shows that had to stop filming because they didn't want where you know crew that way if you're calling a different people informing them for them to Friday and so basically everything has been shut down even the friends three union national that a lot of people were looking forward to it with both the Eric next month hi Katie really H. B. O. mac is that new streaming service HBO and the country in the past would really like a headline show for that and it seems like that probably isn't going to happen now so it's basically everything I mean just the entire industry hi you can put a halt I was thinking about the streaming services because you want new content all the time if I don't see something new on Netflix in a week I'm like what's the problem here so it seems like they're really going to take a hit if they're true you know just like you said that's right now you know if you spend a lot of time watching Netflix there's great stuff on there but after awhile you started garland by Larry thought that I'm not really interested in that and you kind of feel like you run out of things even though there are thousands of hours of content on there not everything is something you want to watch and that's the same issue with all these different new streaming apps like business class and the in the car he cocked their veteran Comcast this month and H. B. O. Max next month where they're spending so much money in content but it will not gonna feel like it's not especially right now when so many people are home streaming more content than ever and there's nothing new flowing in you know all the shows that had highly anticipated return even like stranger things on Netflix and expression on HBO they were in the middle of shooting our next season and now that that that you know even before this when I look at some of the streaming services all see one or two shows that I like on each of them but all together like they had the one or two headlining shows that draw people in but the rest of it is less than desired that's going to be a really big problem I think while we're all sheltering at home because you know not only are we home but some of us are having you know we're going to furloughs or being laid off or experiencing some economic stress because of what's happening and so when you start to look at your monthly bill and you have H. B. L. at fifteen dollars a month and that like that thirteen and maybe have people you meet all these services really add up very quickly and like you said it's not like they all have the same contact if you want to watch Star Wars content nearly thirty five and if you want to watch the connection or you want to watch you know old episodes of game of thrones you need HBO and Netflix and all this other stuff so it becomes really difficult to manage all of these not to mention the frustration of trying to figure out where is that show that he won a lot the stock really gonna come to a head during all this where the industry is going to kind of faith that point where they need to realize that if the customer friendly and maybe they'll start to see people dropping in and out because of the cost what movies some are going straight to on demand with a hefty price tag for home admission how is that changing or might it change in the future the movie industry yeah that's really throwing the movie industry for a loop so for a long time you have been trying to shorten the theatrical window the time period that their movies are in theaters exclusively in Morrow with movie theaters closed a lot of these current releases have the option to stay you know what we're just going to get the theaters altogether instead of waiting for them to re open a we're gonna put it on demand which is exactly what universal pictures dead with the next hold movie they put on demand for twenty dollars to rent which is very expensive and then again if you're ready so it's not like you own the movie HD free watching it however with the next fast and the furious movie which is called after nine that movie was such a big budget film that universal really need the box office revenue that would complement of releasing the film this spring they're holding off until next spring the user having a big is really difficult decision and it begs the question of what's going to happen down the road to theater scheduled how are we going to stop all these different movies and you don't only play so many movies especially blockbusters on a given weekend so this is going to become really challenging and especially for the theater operator because they were already hurting they already have so much that they're close now and they're building believing some of their leverage because the ball there and when they come out of it it remains to be seen how the industry moved on from

"Remember D. the president was saying that it was Porter Rico that was holding up some of the relief in the wake of hurricane Maria and if people have been assailing handle levers a sailing ever saying you you didn't get you haven't sent aid you do you didn't send enough aid you didn't do this remember the one video that went viral it was Crawley I think I saw it on one of the monitors I had on him as it is like a thousand times where he was throwing paper towels all you just sit down there to get the paper towels that's it and they were saying you didn't send enough which is a giant warehouse of stuff and a ton of resources and after he had said that he had not been the one to hold anything up and he questioned what the Porto Rican government was doing that's when what was it the one of their their politicians just went at him and said you don't care it's a trap now the mayor of Ponce Maria Melinda said he had he had not known that that Melinda said was unaware of the warehouse and its contents how are you on a winner of that is what I am really how are you a mayor and I'm aware of that and so I'm just glad and we can have this conversation after people get the resources and supplies that they need but I think we really need to have a conversation as to how in the world these resources I mean their pictures from inside y'all I'm talking boxes and boxes and boxes and boxes of food diapers medicine I mean you're looking it's like a giant airport warehouse stacked to the brand yeah it is I mean I it's indescribable how many how much stuff is in this warehouse on ME it's indescribable and I'm looking AT one photo the supplies are stacked up like a wall it goes off I mean in your it's like an airplane hangar I don't know how to describe it it's a huge facility and so much is in there that has not been distributed I don't know how it hasn't been I'd there's like a field of just stacks of bottled water so Porter Rico I don't know who is I don't know who made that decision and I think that needs to be investigated because if you have politicians or bureaucrats are standing in the way of people getting the resources that they need this is a huge problem obviously and I I I just I'm I'm happy that they found it and I hope no one I actually hope they don't get in trouble for this I don't want any of the three I don't want any of these residents to get in trouble for finding this is taking what they need because this had was supposed to have been given to them now there was one of that the reason that this did the news spread so quickly is because there is a a Porter Rican blogger Lorenzo Delgado who had live video on Facebook of people breaking into the building and these aren't criminals these are people who have been just kind of left on their own after their powers out their infrastructures damage there wonder what's going on and he Delgado had put it out on Facebook live and people were distributing baby food diapers medicine you know just basic necessities to people gas canisters so the governor are Wanda Vasquez ordered an investigation and said an action by fire officials like Carlos Acevedo was unacceptable so they're bound to get to the bottom of it I hope they do now you know as Rivera a spokeswoman for the city of Ponce told the Associated Press that this is the A. P. that the warehouse is owned by Porter Rico's company of commerce and export and they say apparently no one's been able to get them for on record for comments so I mean and I'm just I mean these are mothers these are dads these you know these are kids these are just people trying to get supplies and they are just like so happy about it so can I leave this stuff this is what really it just makes you mad and apparently there also some tents and other stuff in there too for people just how does how does this happen we have a lot more in store we I came out words coming up as well to talk about the latest with Virginia the very peaceful rally that is now over and the advocacy is beginning after the rally and then announcement that I have for you too we have a lot in store so stick with us I'm more the data show back after this you've heard me talk about ray cons wireless earbuds on the show and how much I love mine and what's not to love they started about half of the price of any other premium wireless earbuds on the market and they sound just as amazing as the other top audio brands you know and ray kinds latest model the E. twenty fives are their best ones yet you get six hours of playtime seamless Bluetooth pairing more bass a more compact design also that gives you a.

"Right on down to Porter Rico cycle it's unbelievable I mean here going back some time was it your twenty eighteen maybe last year when that that they unveiled that they uncovered a just a whole field that some airport hangar something that was not full of like water yup your bottled water that was supposed to be for relief supplies following in hurricane Maria several years ago Eddie in light of the earthquakes the tremors the rock to the island in recent weeks a similar scenario has just unfolded Porter Rico's governor it has fired to the island's emergency manager hours after a warehouse filled with supplies were discovered again this is believed to have been from hurricane Maria two years ago Carlos Acevedo director of Porter Rico's office of emergency management was dismissed over the weekend the governor appointed Major General Jose radius a to replace him but it was early one Saturday numerous pallets of water in boxes with emergency supplies were found in a warehouse in the earthquake ravaged city of Ponce several residents were of seeing opening the rolling metal doors of the building I am calling for authorities to distribute the supplies family started lining up Saturday afternoon outside the warehouse hoping to get bottled water food and emergency radios now I as a vetoed denied the allegations of mishandling saying that they've been actively distributing supplies no residents have been denied any supplies in the warehouse including food diapers baby formula and Kansi says but he said about six hundred gallons of water were distributed when Dorian and hurricane Karen threatened Porter Rico and during a drought that affected the island last year nearly eighty of those pallets were still in the warehouse because they expired you set there have been no there's not been orders to seize or destroy those items at any point but there's thousands of people according to the governor that they've made sacrifices to bring these relief supplies in this aid into the southern portion supporter Rico and it's unforgivable that this stuff all ended up piled up in a warehouse with the series of earthquakes that started between Christmas and the new year in the last two weeks tremors and aftershocks of destroyed or severely damaged hundreds of structures thousand people have fled their homes within eight thousand have been living in outdoor shelters well some of these displaced or residence too afraid to go back in their homes afraid that the the root for the home itself might collapse but Hey just some of the let's not really surprising those are the kind of things that have been hit you expect that to happen in a place like maybe Haiti where we send millions and millions of dollars in relief supplies and it ends up in the hands of some of the at least not really ever get not into the hands of the people that need it you wouldn't expect that to be happening in the U. S. territory of Puerto Rico though just saying morning David how you doing do it all right to how's your week start now concerned tomorrow or today technically we're we're we're very concerned down here I mean we're talkin and and and I I I I honestly don't think this is going to happen I I I I think it'd be peaceful I believe in our our law enforcement I think you're ready I think you're ready and willing I think they'll take care of this and it will be in this is just my opinion Steve and my comment and I I don't think anything's going to happen I bet I bet I bet in muscle long war size three shoes and our law enforcement will be ready and willing and I believe in our law enforcement and more ready ready down here and in Richmond and and and and capital died in it will just be another in Salt to our governor that's my opinion he turned and in the lives of gender that will gun control and all that and I honestly believe that our law enforcement is really ready working with the federal government and I think that the I'm just saying that I salute all of them you know they got to go out and well this you know and and and quite frankly I think our governor in our General Assembly is going to realize but they're wrong and that's just my opinion comment and I have a good morning yep everybody's gonna just give something back no they're they're not taken anything for granted in Richmond because over the weekend they tell us police I have been scouring the internet look at various chat rooms and dark web then looking for any clues about possible plans for made him workers have been putting up chain link holding pens around of the capitol square and one lawmaker even plans to hide in a safe house it what's expected to be an unprecedented show of force that's the word to use in by my gun rights activists what is provoking the anger well it's what was a once reliably conservative state Virginia with their now Democrat majority and their plans to an actor a literal slew of gun restrictions no it's the Virginia citizens defense legal rally which is an annual event they they hold a yearly rally on the capitol on a normal year you get a few hundred gun enthusiasts that would show up this year however thousands are expected to turn out second amendment groups have identified the state of Virginia this is our rallying point for the fight against what we see is our national erosion of gun rights that's the key right there with people coming in from in many cases far far away some say there's gonna be protesters from every state in the country let's see one that such protester Timothy Forrester says we're not going to be quiet anymore we're going to fight them in the courts and on the ground the illegal laws they're proposing heard just straight up on constitutional this guy is a Virginia NRA member who had a hand gun strapped to his children another tucked in his waistband as he stood outside of the legislative office building last week now they're saying they've heard from groups around the country the plan to send members to Virginia including the Nevada based oath keepers which is promised to organize and train armed policies in Malaysia extremist groups have blanket in social media and online forums with some cases very ominous message last week of course we had the three men that were arrested a part of a white supremacist group that were planning to attend the rally in Richmond I I thought over the weekend that there were several others I believe like was it for more members of that so called group called the base they had actually been arrested so who knows the governor says they've got credible threats of violence like weaponized drones being deployed over the capitol square which I guess prompted the FAA did issue their temporary flight restrictions including for drones over the capital airspace the Virginia state police Virginia capitol police were Richmond police all working together hand in hand they have plans for a huge police presence at today's rally including uniformed and plainclothes officers looking to blame them police plan to limit access to the capital square to only one entrance and they have warned rally attendees you may have to wait hours to get past the security screening so that that's the site I wondered how they were going to break this down they said they were going to have a perimeter set up there no guns are gonna be allowed through that screened area so I guess they've got fences in place all the way around but just one entrance yeah that sounds like that sounds like trouble coming together as well how's that going to work out you've got pro gun supporters in the the likes of those that hate the pro gunners they're all kind of converging on one entrance to try to get through the security it makes no sense to me but around about the five before the L. we get a quick time out plenty of room for you on a Monday it's eight eight eight eight six zero eighty seven eighty five it is America's trucking network you've got all kinds of hustle like get.

"Org slash Porter Rico Michael what is the there are some concerns about Pierre Louis C. can you remind us what those are sure two of them I mean to just name two of the more prominent ones is that get a role when he was a resident commissioner in Washington DC which is the name given to Porter Rico's nonvoting representative in the US Congress in the creation of the fiscal oversight board or because it's cold and put a Rico the hunter that's one and his law firm work as an advocate for the sport well received the private sector there's also at his links with the the company that was charged quite credibly and and its own study showed that it was and groundwater recorder eagle with toxic ash yeah the more what is the what are the Porter Rican population on the island saying about the succession of pure Lucy so far I mean is he being perceived as just an interim potential governor who would do until there are actual elections are is there concern that because he is also part of the pro statehood party it was appointed by receive your that he also should leave a lot of people are saying that he should also leave and and their protest of already began to to ask for him to step down as well you know I right after he got to go to see your resigned people had a long checklist of what they wanted and and it was clear that they did not want yet another politician who would have also no possible conflicts of interest and so I think what they really want is someone clean and and the with with a clean track record to move no Porter Rico forward do not deserve constitutional crisis but also this democratic upsurge because they think you know a lot of people are now beginning it as a crisis but in many ways it's been a kind of awakening and also an assertion of power from protesters and demonstrators on the street who have found a political voice that they've never before had yeah you mark do you think the way we can see the Porter Rican governments and their relationship to that government has fundamentally changed yes I think without a doubt this with that you know a story moment a real turning point in Puerto Rican history at you know since twenty sixteen with the debt crisis in the different you know shift and and you as you put a Rico relationships in terms of the fiscal boarded cetera a lot of people that said that this was the end of the Commonwealth I am and the Commonwealth party had been in real terms while I think this moment is also marks that the death of the PNP party as we know it and a lot of young people that I've been injured being on the streets you know they're they saying they want the political parties transformed completely and they want to really re imagine what political participation looks like importer Rico and to tackle issues of governance that aren't just about Porter Rico's relationship with the United States but also about your school of education how and the kind of day to day issues that impact young people and then that make it possible for them to stay here and carry out their lives here Michael you've been reporting closely on the the political twists and turns of this story I want to flip the question for you and ask whether or not you think the way the government sees the people of four of Porter Rico has changed out is there a sense of I maybe not remorse but just awareness that the the status quo is no longer I think one thing that's been illustrated incredibly good at least over the last couple of days is that the ruling class and put a Rico generally appears from learned nothing from the events of the last month the fact that there's this kind of backroom bloodletting going on within the P. and P. right now about you know who's going to become the interim governor and what not with almost no participation from the sectors that the took to the streets and you know it she the resignation of little sale is pretty extraordinary and you know the fact that did this seems to be such a disconnect between the the politicians who are in need of a legislative branch and the population that is holding these assemblies around the island and whatnot tells me indeed that I think it's going to probably be a pretty long struggle to reform the island's political system and I agreed also very much so that that the protesters the resignation of a sale was the first in a long list of demands and reforms they were asking for it wasn't as much personally about him is about changing the political culture system on the island and I think that's a struggle but definitely continues and I I think the from my observation the people on the street that they remain motivated Bloomberg reporter.
